Reviews of Alapocas Run State Park

Very nice park. I didn't go on trails but there were pathways abound around a golf course. Multiple playgrounds for the kids. Foliage wasn't great this year but the same could be said everywhere given the recent drought plenty of opportunities for photos.

So beautiful! We saw deer, squirrels and a blue heron. The colors of the leaves were amazing for us in early November and we spotted lions mane mushrooms and several different types of konk mushrooms. We were surprised we didn’t see even one public restroom, even a pit toilet but maybe they just weren’t on the specific trail we took. Not a big deal but I’m sure there are lots of people visiting. Anyways, the park was so cool and if we are ever in the area again we will for sure visit again!

From the ball fields, the wide trails under a high forest canopy wind through a wonderful variety of trees. Poison ivy seems to be well controlled and easy to avoid. A delightful park to treat your pups.

Great place for hiking, jogging and cycling. It’s really pleasant cool forest area, all trails are properly marked. There is an option for rock climbing as well, which is amazing 😉.
We had a great weekend😘
* Use hiking shoes 👟. Some shortcut trail are really steep. Enjoy your day!.
UPDATE: The fall colors this week are just perfect 🤩.

I loved it. I had no idea there was a water fall and was in for a great surprise. Then to see people swimming was a pleasure. There are 3 parking lots. So you should be able to find parking although if your not from the area the parking can be hidden. Try not to miss any turns. The trail is easy enough to go alone . But be careful. One wrong turn can put you at the top of rocks ( I slid my way down) but you also have the option to rock climb. You will need a permit. Enjoy.

This park is amazing! It's vast and has many different types of terrain. There are a few different parts of the park. This review is mainly about the area near the cliffs and Bancroft mill. There are many ways to get to this area, but I find 2 are easiest for parking purposes. If you come from the Brandywine Zoo end, you have some serious hiking ahead of you. The paths are paved and have some extremely steep hills. Not for the faint of heart or those with knee problems. These paths are popular with locals since they offer an excellent workout on foot or on 2 wheels.
If you park behind Bancroft mill and enter across the bridge, it brings you right to the red cliffs and trails. This is a much easier and faster way to reach the cliffs and mill area. There is still some good steep hiking if you head left along the river and then up to your right onto the cliffs. If you're into rock climbing, the cliffs are a good spot. Many people take to the cool meandering waters of the Brandywine river. Tubing is very popular here and up steam from the mill, there are a few man-made waterfalls when kids enjoy swimming. There is some wonderful history here, which you can learn about at various well maintained info stations. The surrounding streets have some good places to eat and refuel as well.

Locally it’s one of the only decent climbing places with rope anchors on the cliff at least that I’ve found. Also a nice place for walking/biking/running etc... some of the trails are paved and some are dirt/rock through the woods, also if your climbing you should have a permit which you can easily get for free at blue ball barn just down the road (sometimes rangers come up and ask to see it, and sometimes not, but better safe then sorry)

Great park with lots of wooded trails to enjoy and connects nicely down to the Greenway. Great place to start a walk into downtown Wilmington.

Grass was high in the parking lot, made it look unkept. Trails are nice if you want a bit more vigorous down and up hill hikes. But a lot of trash and a lot of debri and downed trees... probably from a previous strong storm.

This is a great little local park with lots of good access. The trails through the woods are well worn but pretty. The paved paths are good for bikes and strolling.
Jalen Andrew
Nice big park with good biking trails and a solid ~100 foot natural rock climbing wall along some big river.
nnrg
Good trail for 40 mins round trip walk to small water falls view.

Great trails and full of nature - just like most of the state parks. A day well spent

Great place, very nice views aswell

One of the if not the best scenic parks in Delaware. Part of the Delaware Greenway with paved trail from Brandywine Creek Park up through Rockwood Park and even onto the Delaware River. 20 mile round trip for cyclists or hikers with a lot of steep inclines/declines. Maybe my favorite paved trail.

Great park. Lots of different terrains and views.

Avoid the Bancroft Mills trail (the flat paved trail by the river, below the cliffs) near and after sunset, occasionally muggers hang out there and might accost you as soon as the ranger closes the big bridge that crosses the river. The uphill regions of the park, away from the river are safe at any time.
Otherwise, this is a beautiful park with lots of wildlife (deer, groundhogs, toads, snakes). Also has lots of young hickory trees covering the forest floor and scenic views of the river, waterfalls, cliffs and meadows.

We took our dog for a hike at Alapocas Run while driving through the area. We parked at the ball fields and hiked the trails through the woods. Beautiful trails with access to a couple small waterfalls and other scenic and historical spots. The blue rock cliffs provide the state's only natural rock-climbing cliff. The Northern Delaware Greenway runs through here as well and its a really nice greenway trail. Overall, this is a great place for a hike if in the Wilmington area.
Matt Werth
Beautiful well maintained trail connecting north Wilmington to the City of Wilmington.

It's so lovely! The cliffs are my favorite part, they're stunning. We saw some gorgeous deer as well.

Really pretty park, nice scenery, I don't know if many people really know it's there b/c its never too crowded. Great place to take pictures if that's your thing. No riff-raff or crazy stuff after dark, I feel safe.
Kathy Tyrrell
It's a beautiful time to hike along the Northern Delaware Greenway through Alapocas State Park.

Beautiful trail, right outside of Wilmington, DE. Easy hike, woodsy, some scenic views. Relatively small state park.

Lovely park with many miles of bike and walking paths that connect with the northern Delaware greenway. It also has a excellent rockface for climbing and repelling. The path along the Brandywine is lovely.

Nice little outing right here in delaware, it had just rained so the trail was wet. Then the sun came out and it was nice again. Met some friendly people too...

Beautiful shaded area with nice walking trails.

Gorgeous park decent prices but impossible to find the entrance other than that it's a great place for a nature hike with clearly marked trails wouldn't recommend the trails for young kids
