Reviews of Princess Anne Recreation Center
My first day. I'm 51 years old and signed my 13 year old son and I up. Our first time was today. The front desk was extremely helpful and assisted us with our new ID cards. The facility is beautiful and very clean. The pool is huge and has multiple areas. The Kempsville rec center has an indoor water park. The only downside for the pool is no towels so remember to bring your own.
They have a nice gymnasium with two basketball courts, three of you include the one that spans the gym. There is a sizeable fitness center with different types of equipment. They also have an under 18 game room and raquetball courts.
Beautiful, clean facility that has much to offer and the pool is SO nice!! Spent much time training in the pool and it's top notch!
The friendly staff and smiles are what keeps me coming back as they always make you feel so welcome! No need to search further, this is the place to be!
Highly recommend! 👍
Large, clean, Rec Center with a very nice staff. The pool, workout area and waiting area are enjoyable.
They should be more accurate about their weekend hours. The closing hour is not 5pm as the sign writes. But instead, they start to ask people to leave around 4:45. And depending on the staff, some are more friendly , some are more impatient. We get it. No one prefers to work over the weekend, but if your sign tells the public that you are open until 5pm, then do so; or please just make adjustments so that members are not caught off guarded
Very helpful and knowlegable staff helped me start my fitness
Application via my insurance.
I am a U.S. Master Swimmer and recently decided to swim at the Princess Anne Recreation Center indoor pool. I am certainly glad that I made this decision! The staff are friendly, considerate and go "above and beyond" to make certain you have a good swimming experience at their beautiful recreation center. The Princess Anne Recreation is very clean and covid-19 compliant.
Lpswmmr
PS I wanted to add that I have visited and swam at each one of the City of Virginia Beach's beautiful recreation centers and I have determined the Princess Recreation Center to be the "cleanest, most efficient, with an attitude of above and beyond customer satisfaction
Membership has hiked it's way up from $84 to $98 to $108 for an individual the past few years. The childcare cutoff age is 8 years old...so there still is a gap in the older kids/tween department. Other facilities offer supervised care through age 12, or allow the older child to come with you for a class. So that's something to consider. In addition, if you do want to take unlimited classes, that is $34 a month. If you just want equipment use, pool, no kids in tow, a gymnasium with b-ball games etc, then the $104 rate is what you'd pay. If you're a parent, you will pay for the childcare, which is currently ages 2-8. The pool here is well kept and , it's basic vs other locations in terms of no slides, but the showers get hot and it is a family friendly environment. There aren't gym type people here, all are welcome the same...I do wish the city would offer local residents more bang for our buck and extend programing for a broader audience range, making the rec more accessible for single parents and grandparents with their grandkids. Depending on WHAT you need, this may be a great deal. Read what is included, talk to other parents etc. and see what will work for your budget and situation.
Love this place! Have been a member just over two years and regularly work out, play adult pick up basketball, put my children in childcare, and rent rooms. I've also brought groups of summer campers to use the pool. By far, the best thing about the center is the quality of the staff. Center director, managers, front desk, child care, weight room attendants, swim staff, they're all friendly, helpful, and accomodating!
Best deal around with activities for every age. Decent before and after school programs. Yes it's a hassle when you forget your card and have to get a day pass, but really who fault is that. Always friendly staff , wish they cleaned the racquetball court floors more thoroughly... however, I can see past it considering the annual cost is about that of a month for the fancier social pick up clubs
All my children are in their 20s, but one. I started taking them to the rec center when they were very young. My 25 yr old daughter was 4 at the time when I signed her up for the ballet classes back then and she loved it. Through the years, they graduated into working out with me. My heart was happy having 3 out of 4 children working out at the same time. My youngest one was too young to workout at the time. They are all grown and moved, but the times spent as a family together at the rec center was priceless. Do I still go to the rec and workout, now that I have an empty nest? Heck yes because the rec center just keeps on improving and I will have Grandchildren to share the future fun with!
Nice place. The gym is kinda small. For example, they only have 2 bench press ( one stationary incline bench ). Like 5 benches for the dumbells. And a LOT of treadmills. There's a lot of people who come to the gym, why did they invest in like 20+ treadmills? Worst thing is, like a couple people use the treadmills They do have a lot of other equipment though. It's a good local spot 😁
We had my daughters 1st birthday here and a few days before the party, we got a call that the rain ruined the room we rented. They let us come in and check out the damage. They cleaned as much as they could and made it look really nice. The staff was so friendly and attentive. I really appreciate all the effort that went into making my daughters first birthday special. It really meant alot to me and my family.
This place is great. Lots of programs for the whole family.
There are a lot of reviews focusing on different things, but honestly I feel this is a steal of a deal! We pay around $10 a month for membership and a get a decent gym, pool, and activities. The YMCA is around five times as much for the same thing! Save some money and enjoy a city subsidized healthy experience.
my daughter goes to swimming lesson and this past Tuesday was the first day. im a bit disappointed that my daughter had to stay outside of the pool for few times. and instructor was not really paying attention to the children. I understand that it is the first day and they have new aid helping them but its very unorganized. last swimming lesson I was really happy with Liam my daughter actually learnt a lot from him. so if your child is taking swimming make sure that you ask for Liam. he pays attention to the children and make sure that they paying attention as well.
Has a huge pool, decent size workout area, racket ball, and basketball available for use. Amazing for the price and would have five stars but the hours on weekends and holidays are very inconvenient compared to other gyms. Overall a great deal though 👍🏾 …
Signed my daughter up for ballet. Instructor was very nice and really involved.. The last day of the ballet lessons, kids got to wear whatever they wanted and parents were invited to watch. I was really surprised to see that my daughter was actually learning. I only wish it was longer sessions and more days out of the week. Signing up for swimming next!!!
Not bad for the price although going from a $84 membership to $98 last year was a big pill to swallow, BUT still a good deal considering membership pricing for others. A majority of the staff is very friendly, greeted by front desk most every visit. Only cons/peavs....waiting for available treadmills(not enough in P.A. rec) that are filled with slow long walkers and even though the new treadmills have visual running/walking programs, my only other option is to stare at the wall they all face. I use to enjoy watching others working out as I ran(for motivation/inspiration), sometimes laughs. Can't get that from a wall. And sometimes, the music from spin or body pump class is so loud, I can hear it over my headphones. Other than that, I am happy with my membership and keep coming back every year. Did I mention that I can use any rec center in va beach as may times as I want?!
Signed up my son for a private swimming lesson with Mr. Darryl and he loves it so much. He’s so excited and looking forward to every Sunday. Mr. Darryl is wonderful and so patient with my ADHD child .
Great place! Some staff members are great others seem like they hate their life but unfortunately you see that every where now a days. There is one front desk lady that is super outgoing and kind (wish I knew her name).
Great place, membership includes everything! Great decision. Staff Members are very friendly. So happy we became members.
It's ok for the money but every one goes there because it's cheap. You can never get on anything.
The opening time at 11 am on Sunday is not good, the day is over already. They open after everyone goes to work and close early on the weekend. It would be good if the city charged a little more and open the gym at 5 am.
Big, Clean, friendly. Recommend
Nice experience, not quite close enough to home for us, but would seriously consider membership if it were closer. Appreciate the child care options at the YMCA more, but the Y also costs a whole lot more so it's about what your needs are.
Jessica was so helpful and friendly! She made the sign-up process so easy. I really appreciate her assistance!
The early childhood program at The Princess Anne Recreation Center is a great program for young children. My four year old twins attend the program and they have learnt so much in a short period of time. Ms. Kim, Ms. Cheryl, Ms. Destiny and Mr. Ryan are the most caring and amazing teachers that I have ever met. Thank you for all that you do for the children in your care.
It's a great place for working out and if you play Racquetball it's great, but it would be much better when a minor light fixture problem happens and takes days to just to close the panel and they had to shut one of courts and somehow they couldn't bother with it for days.
Friendly staff, exercise-oriented, equipment well-maintained. UPDATE on July 20, 2014: We quit going to the PA Rec Center after about 5 months as it had become like "Muscle Beach," with all the athletes co-opting the machines and not adhering to the 30 minute guideline for max usage, then freeing the machine (bike, treadmill, weights, etc.) for the next user. Administration did nothing to remedy the situation, so we departed, leaving the remainder of our year's dues behind.
Great rec center. Has many things to do. Everything is clean and organized. The price is reasonable as well.
The Princess Anne Recreation Center has a great, friendly staff, safe and secure pool and gym regulations, and good prices! Overall, this place has a great environment and good prices for all the things it offers.
GREAT pool, gym and classes at bargain prices for Virginia Beach Residents! Sarah's yoga classes are THE BEST! Discount for seniors. One of the perks of living in Virginia Beach!
This rec center is amazing. It's very affordable to get a one day pass or even a membership. The pool is clean and the gym is spacious which is very nice.
The gym itself is very good for the money, but since it's a family recreation center it's disappointing that they do not have a family workout room for people that have toddlers and infants. So you'd have to hire a baby sitter if you want to use their facility.
I enjoyed my workout today. Love the wonderful people there. staff is always ready to go home. and I'm not. o well.
I love it here! Friendly staff, warm pool, fully stocked gym. Great price!
My only problem is there is almost always no hot water in the showers. Other than that I am very happy with my experience with the facility.
Women on Weights is an outstanding class. Andi and Debbie are excellent instructors!
I love it here!!! I went here in third grade for swim lessons! I came back and it was the same great place
Glad I was able to participate in my first Santa's Stocking Craft Show and I enjoyed it thoroughly!
It may not be the most updated rec center, but it is a Great rec center. Lots of equipment and activities for all ages!
Really great facilities, with helpful staff. The only bummer is the hours, especially for Saturday. They close at 5pm which is ridiculous.
Really clean great atmosphere. Staff are friendly and very helpful.
Would give it more stars if the people at the front desk wouldn't be so unpleasant!
Happy to be here !
Human nature is to complain. This is a great facility especially for the price. You can’t beat it.
Great place to swim, exercise. Good kid camps. Lots of group wirkouts.
Very friendly staff!- Saw that my bike was broken and fixed it completely free.
Great Staff, friendly and welcoming.
Very clean and organized.
Informative staff, impressive workout rooms, pool, and programs great place!!!
Very cool staff, excellent gym facilities.
Worst customer service experience ever. Clearly growing membership is not their priority.
Best pre k and before/after school program. The center and staff are the BEST.
clean, welcoming, and cheaper than most gyms!
A wonderful facility! Trainers, front desk, instructors.
Friendly staffs, fast and helpful registration, some equipments kind of outdated.
So much smaller than i remember
Plenty of machines and free weights. Large pool.
Clean, good staff, and well equipped.
Very clean
The weight room is incredible
Great value!
Very clean!
Amazing staff
Da gym and people
Great place
We visited this recreation center because of the pool. Is big . It has an area for children. Didn't interact with the staff but at least all the employees in the pool area always offer a smile.
The pools are very clean and large.
