Reviews of St. Francois State Park
Cute, small campground that was very clean. Sites are close to each other- reminded me of a KOA. Most of the sites are pull through which is nice.
Pros: activities for kids, nice hikes and well maintained, beautiful area, friendly camp hosts. ice and firewood sold on site
Cons: small sites, no main water fill Station so you are stopped in the road to fill up and there is only 1 dump station site when you leave.
We were in site 40 which is a pull through off the shoulder and looked up a hill. Not my favorite spot but 41 had a much more level view and was closer to the playground.
Highly recommend wouldn't go when it recently rained though. Place gets really muddy and slick. Unless you're a hiker then it's an easy quick hike. Closes at Dark
Beautiful place to stop and stretch. We got out and walked a little ways on the trail. Water was super clear and clean and there was tons of wildlife. We seen 5 different butterflies, birds, and a BIG water moccasin was right by the bridge in the water. They also have grills, picnic tables and a playground.
Beautiful clean park. Mostly shady areas. Very family friendly. Wasn't crowded at all since we decided to go on a hot weekend.
A beautiful state park with clean facilities and the knowledgeable staff. We are typically there in the spring in the Motor vehicle campground is exceedingly packed. If you have one chance to go try to go around Easter time when the blue bells are opening up along the creek trail.
Another Great place to bike, hike, camp, kayak, tube, an relax. Shower house an host were Great!
Great place for hiking with several trails to choose from. The trails are well marked and relatively easy.
Very beautiful trail, but after a rain it can gett really muddy. So bring extra shoes. All of the hidden gems are off in the woods by the trails. Huge rock formations just tucked away in the forest. Nice clean stream in the creek with the most beautiful rocks. Definitely going back again
Beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors. Nice bathrooms.
Fantastic state park with nice campground that's pretty inexpensive with clean showers and bath house. Pretty awesome hiking trails that are pretty easy, but quite beautiful. B picnic tables on the river playground and a couple of nice spots to walk down to the water.
Absolutely love this place! I go running here quite frequently because it's so rarely busy. Beautiful scenery, it's always clean, and it feels very safe. It's a great place to go running, walking, or to take a picnic!
We went to Swimming Deer Trail late April and it was prime time for blue bells. We went on a rainy day but the wildflowers were amazing. Highly recommended.
Absolutely love this park. Mooners hallow trail is my favorite trail. Plenty of water access for pups or for you to cool off in. Its about 4 miles long. A good challenge. There is also a part where you have to cross the creek as part of the trail. This is so unique I absolutely love it 💜 …
Wonderful little campground. Nice hikes with some places to chill in the water. Lots of great foliage. It was a bit muddy at parts, but nothing crazy. Good place for families and pets even.
Beautiful scenic trail. With crystal clear streams, small caves and bluffs. And dolomite crystals everywhere you look. Love this park.
Great park .... Nice trails and lots of nature wildlife and beautiful scenery with lots of history and friendly staff
Some of the trails can be really thick! We were here on a wet and rainy day and it really added to an enjoyable hike. Highly recommend all the trails although bug spray is a huge must with the grasses as thick as they are in places.
As other reviewers have noted, this place is only an hour south of STL, making for an easy after work drive for the weekend. The proximity to the Big River and its hiking trails make for plenty to do.
The electric campground is nice in that the slots are pull-thru, and were pleasantly surprised with the lack of mosquitoes. However, for some reason, the electric hookups on at least some of the campgrounds is on the curb side. The pit toilet was nasty (even for a pit toilet), and the shower gives 5 seconds of water for each press of the button.
Overall, definitely a good campground and decent place to visit, just not one of the best encountered so far.
We love the park in the spring when the blue bells are blooming. Nice canopy of of trees for hikes. Going to the river is great in the summer, but could use a better way to get to the gravel beach. Wear water shoes! Less crowded in fall. Very crowded in the summer.
Nice state Park. Hiked the Swimming Deer Trail 😀 nice trail with some elevation change, rocky in some places. Wish we had more time to hike some of the others. Stayed 2 nights at the campground, the camp hosts were very nice. …
Great trails, nice shower house/restrooms, and the campsites are clean and we'll kept
Great access to a shallow river (Big River) for the kids. Rocks and sand banks with a small current in the deeper portions. The kids were able to enjoy the water and weather and stay safe. The access to the river is a little rough due to having to walk down the bank. Their are multiple access points and two or three playgrounds. Its never been crowded when we've gone which is a huge plus. I'm not sure how accessible it would be with a wheelchair or other considerations.
Great River access! The restrooms were very clean. It has small hikes to enjoy too. The campsites were a little smaller with TONS of large families. Overall, we would come back. Just lacked more private campgrounds.
A great one day get away!!! But you can camp there as well!!! Love this place.
Pike Run Trail. I love this trail. Not much of a mountain bike trail but great for hikers and equestrian. Very clean trail, no dog poop bags and very little trash. I picked up some trash I found on my hike and threw it away in the trash cans provided at the trail head. I will be back to complete the entire trail system and to do more trail clean up.
This is a great state park with plenty of hiking opportunities. Please note, during the off season there is no water available so plan accordingly.
This is a very nice, easy trail. It wasn't crowded at all. Definitely recommend!
The river was really nice and the water was super clear. Very beautiful area and great place to go camping. We had a lot of fun!
Went on a Family camp trip. Everything was clean and upkept. The river was refreshing. Loved it.
We love camping here. The fact there are bathrooms and showers is bonus. The camp hosts were very accommodating. There was also a park ranger that did some educational classes. Recommend.
It's a 1/2 way stop for us to stretch our legs. It's so beautiful! We can either walk along the river, or climb among the bluffs. So quiet and peaceful!
Tucked away and so comfortable. Passing thru first week in November on way to Texas. Very helpful host and will certainly be back in Spring. Rate is great imo. Im senior and Pulling 5th wheel.
The bluebells were just beautiful, dogwoods and Red buds had a good year. The trail along Big River was outstanding
Beautiful area we loved swimming I recommend getting there early to get a good spot
Very nice and well kept State Park. Lots of water. Our kids love it.
Very nice staff. Great place for families with kids. There is a playground and bathrooms with showers, plus a laundry mat. Great price.
This park is so beautiful and nicely kept. The only thing is there is no access to the water for disabled or injured folks😒 …
Moon Hollow trail is a must for any hiker. Lots of bluff and creek views with a couple small caves.
Great location, located right by the Bonne Tierre Mine. Beautiful scenery, great swim hole covered in nature, great price on campground, bench and firepit 🤟 …
Winter camping here is great. No one here. They do have some trails that people do use in the winter. The sites are kind of level.
This place is fantastic. Nice showers bathrooms. All the people are great.
Awesome site. Great people. Great showers and bathrooms. Awesome.
It's fantastic, many different rock formations, nice clear water creeks and rivers, overall I had a good time there.
Some really beautiful hikes are found in this park! Seeing the bluebells in full bloom is a must do for everyone!
A very nice and clean park. We decided to camp for the weekend. We picked an electric site to pitch a tent. Clean facilities, well maintained lawns and plenty of staff.
Luckily from experience, I brought 2, 50ft extention cords to pitch tent on flatter ground. The fan was needed lol.
We were on camp site 1. A water source is across the drive, so super convenient to access. The main restroom and showers was a little bit of a walk. Plenty of room in the restrooms and 8 shower rooms, that each are access from the outside.
The other restroom spot is a one person, non flushing toilet, no sink. The smell is a given but at least foam sanitizer and bath tissue is provided.
Wood is $5 a bundle. 7lb bag of ice is $2. They sell ice cream but not much else. A little gas station about a half mile down 67 has a few additional things, just in case.
All in all, a great experience. I would come back again.
Love the campground here! It is a perfect place for families because there is space for kids to ride bikes and scooters, a playground, hiking trails and a river to relax in. Each time I've camped there the campground hosts have been friendly and helpful.
Really lovely state park. A must-visit if you like to hike in Missouri.
Good place for camping. Great places to hike.
Beautiful park we still have alot of exploring to do here. 🏞️ …
Great place to camp...sweetest hosts. It has large camping areas, Great showers and fun playground for kids.
First time here, love the creek running the length of the trail, plenty of places to play in the water on a hot day! Trail and creek are super rocky, definitely advise appropriate shoes. I wore my Teva Hurricanes but with the rocks and sticks, I will be wearing closed toe water shoes next time. Will be back to finish trail and explore more!
Loved this place. Great scenery. Challenging hikes. Definitely going to be coming back.
Great state park. River close to camping area. We loved it. The dogs loved swimming all day
The trail we hiked was well marked and easy to follow. The bathrooms were clean.
Easy to get to, friendly staff, and great trails. The trails here are very well marked - quite helpful! This is a great park for trail running.
My favorite close by state park. Dogs love it family loves it and friends love it. Great place to spend a day at the river with bbq going and picnicking.
Had a delightful morning fishing after an overnight car camp. No fish biting, but fortunately it was breezy enough neither were the mosquitoes.
Awesome trails full of great lookouts!!!
Definitely coming back.
Great places for families and kids.
You can make small family party and BBQ right here.
There is a beautiful River around the area which you and your kids can swim 🏊♀️. …
This place has an outdoor playground, a nice campground and lots of room to BBQ at tge river there. They also have a nice walking trail.
Beautiful, well kept, cle as n park with lots to do and beautiful hikes!
Really nice place 1 big complaint is that people drive way to fast on the roads. Lots of children and adults riding bikes, swimming and just having fun. Our part of 10 with small children walking down to swim and this car probably was doing 40, not slowing down at all. Was really grateful that r grandson in-law was paying really close attention to the kids. He yelled at the car they just flipped him off and called us all kinds of names. Shame on them!!!!!!.
It's always been a wonderful place. I've been going there since I was a kid.
It may be the closest park to me but that's not what makes it my favorite. My daughter and I always have fun whether we are riding bikes, walking the trails, or swimming. If you are in the area you should definitely stop and check it out!!
Great trails no crowds.
Beautiful park just outside the city. Easy access and spacious.
Wonderful place to go wonderful place to walk All Seasons off types of people
We camp here at least once a year and love it. Nice sized park very clean and awesome layout. We like camping by the river. River is pretty clean and has a lot of access points. It also has deep swimming holes and shallow areas you can sit and relax in.
Quiet, Peaceful, Fun hike with a bit of elevation. We did the Mooners Hollow Trail.
Beautiful views and lots to do. From camping and fishing to swimming/float trips to just having a picnic. Great State Park.
Nice trail, it took about 1.5 hours. Several water crossings might be an issue during high water. On this December day there was plenty of parking.
Beautiful campground, very peaceful and secluded on a Thursday night. Deer came right into the campground loop.
First time camping in a few years. We tent camped. The quiet hours weren't really enforced. Pretty rowdy the weekend we stayed.
The sites were nice and maintained. The access to the river was pretty washed out.
The park itself is nice. Our campsite 86 was great. Clean bathrooms and showers. Nice playground and wading river. Unfortunately, the campground is 1.7 miles away from Bonne Terre Drag Strip. Unless you like the very noticeable sounds associated with drag racing until 10 pm or later, make sure you check their racing and practice schedule before camping...or bring a very loud noise machine / ear plugs so you (or your kids) can sleep.
Terrific Camping Locale unfortunately suffering some Emerald Ash Borer issues, but at least windy days won’t mean falling branches anymore.
Wonderful place to visit &/or camp. Lovely hiking trails & plenty of paved area to walk if you don't want to go in the woods. Very well maintained. Every camp host we have encountered has been kind & helpful.
Very nice park with great hiking trails!
Wonderful spot for camping and hiking. We have come regularly with our kids and they have a blast playing in creeks and rivers.
The camp host Joe was not a nice or polite person. I will never go back as long as he is there. His wife and the other camp host couple was as kind as can be. 1 bad Host can definitely ruin your awesome time.
Very pretty! The creek was quite cold and swiftly moving, but that’s because it’s l’art of a river. Fun trip!
Its got a nice swimming hole and a fun hike to a waterfall. Well its a tiny waterfall. Not many near St. Louis so its what you can get around here.
Great place to take dogs for walk, and play in water. Also great place just to go with hammock and coolers to relax.
Beautiful place with 3 easy to trails and cute little ponds with fish swimming all over. There's plenty of individual picnic areas and open space for outdoor games. Everything is easy to find. The public restrooms are clean and the hand sanitizer is kept full. All and all a very nice day to spend alone, with family.or friends.
This is a good camp ground and lots of things to do. Clean restrooms and showers. The only issue I ever have with this part 8s the road noise. It's off a busy hwy and there is also a drag strip not far away as well. That's not the parks fault but it's there.
Beautiful park, will return just not sure about camping. When we visited we called first and asked what we could do or couldn't do, when we got to the camping area to use the facilities, didn't get her name, but the host to the right of the entrance was very rude and in fact stated "she didn't care who we talked to" when in fact we had spoke with the person that manages the area prior to visiting. The host on the left however is very polite and respectful. I would definitely look into a different host if that is how she treats people. It looks like a wonderful place to camp.
Nice place to camp, swim, hike, etc. a lot of trash around or would have been 5 stars. Picked up a lot of it as we were walking.
A scenic state park. Hiked the Mooners Hollow Trail. The trail was lush green and you cross the creek at several instances. Make sure you follow the signs for the trail. (Blue blaze trail)
The campground was very clean, grass cut, playground & bathroom/showers are in the middle of the sites. To go swimming is about a 5min drive from where my family and I were camping.
This is one of our favorite parks. Everyone is pleasant and respectful
Went on a hike on the Swimming Deer trail on a warm February day. We really enjoyed this hike and the view if the river. Highly recommend.
First time coming. Went on a Boy scout overnight camping trip, went fishing, looked at the stars, and saw horses.
Beautiful place to visit and my daughter loves to hunt for craw dads in the creek.
We have also stayed here a few times in our camper and loved it. They have tons of trails, you can swim, bike ride, fish or even playgrounds for the little ones.
When we stay in the camper we are able to have a fire going, picnic table to eat, bathroom/showers close by, swing sets, ball court, trails that led to the river and ride are bike around where they have all the campers. I never have a problem with any of the other campers, they are very respectful with noise and are always extremely nice. During the summer months you are able to purchase ice and wood from the guard shack. However they do have a Dollar General right across the road from the beginning of the park. So that you can buy anything you may have forgotten!
They do lock the gate at a certain time every night but they give you a passcode that way if you have to come and go you can do so.
It's such a beautiful park to go and explore. There are shaded picnic tables.
We just went to kill time and skip rocks at the river. It was pretty despite the lack of greenery this season.
Awesome place to go fishing and take your kids they have spots they can either swim are they have a small beach and they can play in the sand my kids do both they have a blast and never wanna leave when it's time to go lol
Nice place for the day to have a picnic. But they need to be more aggressive on people not putting their dog on a leash.
Great place for camping picnics and hiking beautiful
Great hiking trail. Cool waterfall. Nice little creek. Dog loved it!
Great park to hike, swim and explore.
This park has a nice trail to hike, it lines the Big River and is great for swimming, and the forest is great for exploring.
Absolutely fantastic hiking (did the Mooner's Hollow trail). Well marked, with beautiful scenery. Great intermediate hike!
I grew up in Desloge just south of here. Spent alot of summer days playing in Big River. Haven't been here in over 35yrs. Came home for my class reunion and decided to camp here for a few days. So glad I did. I won't wait that long again. LOVE THIS PLACE. The Custodian needs a raise this bathroom and showers are really well maintained.
Awesome experience! Friendly staff, nice campground and River is easy accessible from campground with various trails. Our kids were able to touch in most areas and they’re young. Perfect family campground. We will be back soon!
Have been coming to this park for years, but won't be back. The wood they sell you doesn't even burn. They must have new hosts now because they were rude about things. Telling us it's not their job to bring wood to us. They always have before and we've been camping there for at least 25 years. A shame because the park itself isn't bad. The camping has went downhill.
A quiet, peaceful little campground. Beautiful with lots of shade trees and ample facilities, including hot showers.
Beautiful State Park and the Camping was nice. Campground is well kept and the 2 different couples that are hosts, are very nice people. Very welcoming and friendly. Great swimming holes with cool water coming in from a spring fed creek going into the Big River. The only downside is the drag racing strip that's a mile away. That sound carries clear through the valleys . Pretty sure they run on Fridays and Sundays.
Here in April and there is so much noise. There is a drag race or some kind of track so close all you hear is engines for hours. There is also just one huge loop of hundreds of campers right on top of each other with no trees or separation of any kind. Nice park for hikes but not at all relaxing.
Beautiful place to hike, swim and BBQ. Could use more trash cans by the pitts though.
Camp sites are a little close but are better spaced than most state park sites. I believe all the sites are pull through in campground 2. I have not been to the other campground.
Campsites are close to a good swimming area via trail in the woods (campsites 4, 6, 8, 11, 14)
Staff is friendly, the beach is decent, and there is a lot of space to hold family events. Fairly quiet and family atmosphere. If you are looking to party I know campground 2 isn't for you.
Lots of wildlife. We stayed during the week so there were not many campers. The deer and bunnies come out and don't mind the humans so much.
This park is where my children camped, grew up playing ball, played in the river, hiked and learned how to drive. This park will ALWAYS have a special place in my HEART
Beautiful park with great access and swimming on the big river.
Ice on hand at Host site. Showers were not attached to bathrooms. Everything got wet, so be careful to try and put all dry stuff up high on the small shelf they have.
No path to the river and I'm allergic to poison oak and ivy and summack so it would be nice to have a few paths cleared to get to the river.
Very convenient sites. However they are not clearly marked so use your intuition.
Good time here. Just make sure you pay close attention to the water, cause it can raise and get you in a bad way if you don't.
I was here for the eclipse and the park was really a wonderful place to camp for a weekend. The facilities were clean, the sites were well managed. The river has plenty of places to cool off and to have fun with the kids. The trails were a good hike for younger kids, and lovely. I will be back.
Nice park. The trails were not necessarily well marked, but they were beautiful and challenging in their own right. The special use area was great for camping but could stand some improvements on the structure and picnic tables. The camping spots were awesome. The special use vault toilet could use a light and perhaps hand sanitizer since there is no running water.
I've been here a couple of other times, however this camping experience was not that good.
Previously: Quiet, relaxed and fun. Camp hosts delivered wood to you when purchased.
This time: LOUD due to drag races, unruly children, motorcycles driving thru, and when I had to get firewood from the entrance hut....wood bundles were full of ants....now they are in my car. And the wood DID NOT burn either. $5.00 for a bundle of ant infested sticks. Very disappointing!
Nice clean park with adequate river access.
Good kids water play, State Park with clean campgrounds, rv and separate tent camping. Big River clean here, scenic, and trails. Beach approach a bit steep, stairs washed out but manageable. Sand/gravel underfoot on beach and water. Bbq grills and picnic tables.
Only two issues are it would be nice if they had some trash cans and would clean the path out when you go to the first part down near the newer bridge. Trail is lined in poison ivy and the end of the trail toward the bank is logs, brush and plenty of places for snakes to hide.
Beautiful, shady campground. RV sites are spacious. We stayed here for a couple of weeks. Several good trails in the park for running or hiking, including a nice one behind the campground. We used this park as a base camp for exploring other trails in the area. Lots of interesting places in this part of MO. The campground will close if water levels get too high during a flooding event. Great place for groups and family outings.
Fantastic park. Clean, well kept. Went a couple days after a heavy rain, so some of the trails were a little muddy, but that's what hiking is all about. Will be making another trip for sure.
Just spent the weekend there. I was very happy with our experience. Campsite was nice and not clustered too close to neighbors. River access was convenient. Trails were a nice change of pace. And, after all those activities, the shower in the bathhouse was amazing.
Make sure you bring a heavy duty extension cord if you get an electrical site. The power boxes are likely placed for RVs and we had a tent. Fortunately, we also had a long extension cord.
Park access closes at 10pm every night, so get back in time. Park staff were all friendly. :)
Great hiking trails, after all the rain the falls looked amazing!
I went to St. Francois State Park with family for a weekend of camping and floating and had a great time. The staff were very friendly and helpful. You can buy small bundles of wood ($4) and ice ($2/bag) at the campground. My only complaint is that the bathroom closest to our campsite was horrible, mostly because of the flies swarming around the toilet. The main bathhouse was fine, but it was a far walk when ya gotta go. We had a great time on the float trip. We floated from the park to Cherokee Landing. Word of advice: Do not try to bring your own tubes or raft and exit the river from the Cherokee Landing ramp; you will be charged to use the ramp. We brought our own tubes, but paid at Cherokee Landing before departing from the park ($5/person). The river was a little crowded, but it was July 4th weekend. Except for some areas that were so shallow we had to walk a bit to keep from dragging the river bottom, it was a great float. Because it is a shallow river and doesn't have a strong current I felt comfortable letting our teens go ahead of us to do their own thing. The campground was peaceful and we really enjoyed our time there. We had spot #86 and #88, which were close to a water spigot. Both sites are slightly sloped, #86 has more shade but the picnic table is in the sun in the afternoon. We had a great time and will definitely be back!
Its a good trail we hiked it this summer. It gets 3 stars cause the last leg is loaded with seed ticks. Dress accordingly.
Not Good for swimming right now due to flooding but with out flooding our favorite place to swim. Favorite to camp. Very clean restrooms and showers facilities. Great park Rangers who care and patrol for your safety. Great playgrounds for my Grandchildren
Beautiful State Park ! The campgrounds are beautiful with lots of grassy areas and shade trees. Lots of nice picnic areas , trails , and a few playgrounds for the children. Has a shower house and laundry room. Coonville creek was the perfect place for wading , cool , clear and shallow . We enjoyed biking too .
Nice camp ground but need to watch which site you get if you have a camper. Lot 34 has a small area, not big enough for putting out washer boards and had to use a lot of blocks for the front. They also need to trim some trees because there are big branches hanging over some sites. Great place for kids and dogs. The tent camping areawas almost empty because tents were camping where the campers were for the electricity. I think they should run electricity in the tent area and could fill both. Over all we like the park and will be back.
A nice hike with a pleasant surprise about half-ish way through. A nice lil waterfall to cool off in!
Nice area with hiking trails, camping and swimming.
I've been going here since i was little. Now as an adult this is where my husband and I go. Its always clean and the host are very friendly. We just got back today from a 2 day trip. There are hiking trails. there are different trails that lead to the river from the campsites or you can drive. We love it and its only about an hour drive for us.
This is a beautiful scenic park with excellent river access, unfortunately the river level was too high for us to get in the water. The current was also too strong for my dog to get in that day. We plan to return when the river level is lower. We still thoroughly enjoyed our visit to St. Francois State Park.
I lost my keys. The park would have been better if my girlfriend was there. But I had a great time the view was beautiful, I was the only one there, and the fishing holes were great. I mean great. Anyways, the park overall is just a wonderful place to visit I would recommend it to anyone. Just hold on to your keys.
One of our favorite state parks. Several very nice picnic areas with playgrounds and pavilions. Camping for both RV and tent and clean restroom and shower facilities. Good fishing and several hiking trails make this a wonderful place to visit or vacation for adventurers or families. Plan early to get a camping spot.
While I am not a camper or outdoorsman I did enjoy our time at the park today. We enjoyed sitting in the water and in general it seemed like a very well kept park. It was great for my little kids and wife and I. We would highly recommend it to others
A nice hike through the woods!!
Beautiful park. Be cautious of very steep and curvy downhill grade. There are 3 park areas and a camping area. The 1 park area on your left coming in has a pavilion, playground, simple , yet gorgeous trail and a fresh spring. The 2nd park area is on the right coming in and is the largest. It has a large field and playground as well as picnic areas and the river on its perimeter. The 3rd park is at the end on the park area and has a field and large pavilion as well as the picnic tables and the river on the outer edge of this park. The campground area has both electric and "caveman"sites as well as RV park. This area has the best and longest trail as well as the big river on its perimeter as well. Early morning visitors such as deer and fox are the norm. The park also boast great equestrian trails, caves, and regular programs from the park rangers for youth and adults. You will not be disappointed. The town closest, BonneTerre, has a few stores and Emergency Room.
This is another great state park. If you are a nonprofit youth, use the special use area. This area is better than most special use areas, with running water and clean vaulted toilet. The path is a ways back in the park to get to it. Also the shower houses are at the main camping park. Overall this is a great park for special use area and has many trails.
The most peaceful place to visit , I really recommend this park, so clean, nice warm river water, I was there for 5 hours and I felt like it was minutes, I've been passing for to much stress, and this place totally released me of it.... Very recommend it
If you love the outdoors, camping, seeing wildlife at times, this is really a perfect place to visit. The campsites are clean and easily accessible. I've never met anyone rude or unfriendly when I was there. I think you will really enjoy the accommodations.
Great place for hiking even with kids. On the Mooners Trail, there's lots of shade so even though it was 90 degrees it was pretty cool under the trees. The creek and playground are fun to play in too.
St Fran is a beautiful little park. Very green. :-) campground is nice, river is nice. Some of my favorite trails in the system. Deer in the camp area make it even more peaceful. That said- maintenance is needed on the roads and facilities. Its a busier park for the area and I'm surprised to see potholes in the main roads...
Love this place, great climbs for beginner and intermediate climbers. All bolts are solid and well maintained highly recommend if you’re looking for a good view and/or great climbing spot near the area
It was beautiful, there were spots there for the little children that couldn't really swim but they could catch tadpoles if they wanted to. And also play in the sandwhile the little kids were playing you could see the big kids and the deeper water and they could float down the stream and be able to see the whole thingto where they could stand up and walk back so you can keep an eye on all your children at the same time little or big. That was a big reliever for.it is my stress of kids being in the water in a river and I got to relax which is a big deal when you're in the water because kids drowned very.
Very proud of our state parks. They do a great job keeping the forest burned out and it's so green and easy to walk through.
If you like hiking its a great place to do so. I had no idea just how many trails there were...and how long some of them were: take plenty of water and look at the signs closely. Great park.
This is a great place to go see. There are a number of different trails to walk through and enjoy the sights! Then there is the river which is great to dive in after some of those long trails. There are camp grounds there so everyone can enjoy a nice bonfire after the long day:)
Excellent tent camping, clean facilities, friendly staff.
Its a cute and cozy place to relax. I wouldn't bring the little ones, there's quite a bit of sharp objects in the water for some reason. Hopefully they'll clean it up sometime.
We stayed on the primative camping loop. Lost of flat spots for tents. Each sight had a fire ring, table and parking area. Lots of trees for shade and a very nice shower house. Spots were close together but that is typical of most state parks. The area is beautiful and there are fun things to do within an hour drive.
Had a great day with my wife Stacey dear and dog Okie girl, park was clean and quiet, not many people there. Couldn't have asked for a prettier place to have gone to.
It was absolutely beautiful we had only stopped to take a break from our drive home and walk the dogs but now planning on going back to visit and walk the trails
One of our favorite places to camp. Clean bathrooms and great camp hosts! Linda was exceptionally accommodating to us last weekend.
My kids loved it! We are going this weekend! Love the camp sites@
Some of the workers that collect money for camping are very rude. Have been told that I wasn't allowed to use the restrooms, get water from the water faucet, take a shower or use the coin operated washer/dryer unless I paid for a camp site. I was going to camp there till they got rude with me & said I had to wait till I sat up camp & they came around to collect the money before any of us could use any of the facilities. It was a hot day & I had young kids with me that were hot, so we left, went swimming elsewhere & wound up buying a lot at Lake Timberline. Much better choice. Now we can camp 364 days for about $165 instead of spending $15-$22 a night. Definitely saves money.
Great experience there every halloween
beautiful day. Wish my girl was with me
Beautiful camping area. I enjoyed my stay. October 2017
This was a very nice trail with a few nice sites to see along the way. I walked it with my 3 year old son and we were able to compete it in two hours (with me carrying him most of the way).
Beautiful park that offers hiking, biking, fishing, and camping! Easy access to the Big River where you can play in the water (at your own risk) to beat the summer heat!
This park even features a baseball field for all kinds of fun!
Beautiful place!! Must visit list for sure!!
The Mooner's Hollow Trail is one of the prettiest hikes in any state park within a reasonable drive from St. Louis. If you go slightly off the beaten path, about 1.3 miles down the trail, just before you ford the creek the second time, there is a series of absolutely gorgeous waterfalls where the stream flows across solid bedrock. The path is not blazed, but is clearly trod often. It's well worth the extra quarter-mile it will add to your day.
Very nice. Peaceful & tranquil. Had a blast!! The fall colors just started on the trees!👍..... I minor setback though. As my wife & I were walking through the trail, we walked into a 3' black snake/rat snake. We calmly turned around and walked back to our van. 🤣🤣. I'm afraid of SNAKES!! But a great park!!! I will come back!! …
Awesome! Seemed a lot longer than 2.75 miles.
It was actually a good swim day. I like whenever the water is lower
One of the many beautiful parks less than 2 hrs from St. Louis. Worth the drive in any season. Good hikes & swimming. Been coming for 30+ years.
Love this park, even if my wife did break her ankle on the trail there.
Great camp grounds horrible access to the big river
Beautiful place to see the seasons change
Nice clean park
Nice park. Nice amenities. We use it every year for a training class. Just wish it wasn't as steep a hill in and out. Could make it rough if you had trailer brake issues!
Huge park 2600+acres. Beautiful scenary. People, please keep it tidy by cleaning up after yourself. Also..this is a priceless lesson to teach your kids. After all, Missouri has the longest river system in our entire country! Thanks guys!
It was rlly fun except for the sun burns. Man they do sting. The showers were nice and warm. And the ground was soft. Terrific
Enjoyed a beautiful day with my family.. wish the water was a bit higher but we still had alot of fun i love to see my babies smile🥰 …
The park is gorgeous, but extreme noise from racecars or whatever, not to far from the camping ground made the experience less pleasant.
Very nice place to relax, have a picnic or luncheon, and play games on the large field. Also good looking place to drop a line in the water and go fishing!
Great place to walk and hike
Not the best floating trip, but overall it was okay. It has changed a lot since I was kid
We love camping here. Always a great experience!
Amazing and beautiful but not too surprising to get info about the fishing and hungry people in your area and across seas, I have no idea what is going on with you. But I'm still trying to get help with water in some areas, so much as if I'm praying for rain
Beautiful quiet place to camp. River access in the park and they have a couple different playgrounds. Found some of the coolest rocks ever at the river.
Park is great. Awesome camping, trails and river. Tonight as I left park host ran screaming telling me to slow down. I was doin 10mph up hill leaving camping area. My vehicle is a loud truck, so can understand him thinking I was "hot rodding" as he said, but to run out in front of me screaming and yelling, and then tell me that Todd( the park ranger who literally road my tail the whole way out) would get me is alittle excessive. Sad that one person can ruin a experience.
A wonderous trail with river and wildlife .
Excellent park! Lots of picnic areas and solid trails. Both the Big River and Coonville Creek have abundant shallow areas for cooling off.
Love the place , space and people. Good area for family outings. Exciting trails . Nice staff . Been coming for years. UNFORTUNATELY , I had to give only 3 stars because some a-hole has opened a drag racing track next door to the park and some equally idiotic gvt official has given them licence to go late into the night. It completely ruines the onece serene nature of the place on weekends.
We had a problem with the upper set of campers that was campsite hosts.
Lower set camp site hosts was so sweet.
A nice family-oriented Park kept very clean nice trails to hike on nice cold river runs right through the park
Forty years of riding dirt bikes here, I finally wore the place out. Trails are rough and rocky. I've enjoyed riding here in the past, but it's just too rough on bikes and bodies now.
The mooners hallow trail was a nice hike. Found a relaxing spot to hang out in the hammock by the stream. The camping is good ... but would be much nicer if you could pick your neighbors.
As a hiker, the horse trails are not welcoming. Without switchbacks, erosion have assisted them in making the trails less than ideal for twisting ankles. Even though the park is close to St Louis, the scenery is rather boring and not really worth going back.
Absolutely beautiful well worth the 30 min trip it took me to get there. Walking trails, river and streams. Saw park police so well patroled groomed and clean.
Wonderful place to relax and take the edge off my husband and I had a very nice time there and can't wait to go back
Park is clean and well maintained rangers are awesome and helpful great weekend get away family friendly environment pet friendly and showers were clean and had warm water each site was clean and had a fire pit and park table bench fire wood was there for sale so was ice each were very fair priced also river was clean and fun to swim in
My new home away from home!! As long as we stay thawed out for awhile...20 min. south from my new hometown in Festus, MO. and feels like I'm in the vast backcountry!! Missouri is one helluva beautiful STATE!! Discovered campgrounds and a River runs through it!! State Parks anywhere in Missouri are Great for camping. Hiking...fishing...biking....trailing..bailing....and wailing...outside weather from March to Nov./Dec. ....just have to hibernate for 3 months a year...but they have off season YEAR AROUND CAMPING AS WELL!!!! SOME AMENITIES MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE BUT YOU ARE ABOUT 5 TO 15 MIN. TO A SUBWAY OUT HERE!! ITS CRAZY HOW ISOLATED IT FEELS WHEN U ARE ON CAMPGROUNDS..SAH-WEET!!!
Beautiful park with nice trails to walk. Not easily accessible for those needing walking assistance.
We took our kiddos camping here for the whole weekend. It was such a wonderful stay. Our kids loved it. Very kid friendly. Very clean park. And everyone was friendly. Had an amazing stay!!!!
There was some trash but over all it was pretty nice!
Great Park with awesome trails. Would highly recommend the Mooner's Hollow Trail. You get to experience everything from Forest, to Creeks that work great for swimming, and glades.
Hiking is gorgeous with a creek that runs along trail.
Very nice park, trails were a good length and just hard enough to be a hike instead of a walk in the park!
Great place to go on a hike or swimming camping. Great times with the family..
Really quiet State Park. Nice area to enjoy the big river and shallow enough for my 3 year old grandson.
Camping is great. Camp host is a little mean and work on there personality skills. Need to do some maintenance on showers, bathrooms, and firepits.
Great place to walk and feel the natural world void of TV with news on having nothing to say but it's political nonsense.
Always so much fun to camp with our family and friends!
Bathrooms are dingy, unswept, dirty sinks. Cement Shower rooms dingy and not heated. Not well kept bathroms. Landscape is beautiful, people friendly but for $20.....
Beautiful scenery, nice shaded camp sites, trails, fishing, locked gates at nite so nobody is in thats not suppose to be and nice caretakers.
Great place for Hikes, camping and river fun.
Me and my daughters love going here to swim, walk the trails and we even have our family reunion here every here! Very beautiful park
Here's a schedule of the drag strip that's right next to the campground. Look it up to avoid high noise camping experience, you're welcome
I love this hike! It features a beautiful creek that is perfect to cool off in. The loop is 3 miles and the terrain is challenging enough to get in a great work out. My dog loves this trail too.
Great place to take small children swimming. The entire swimming area is shallow, and not very crowded.
Me and my best friend went there for his birthday and we had a blast!! Great amount of space and i LOVE how you can go in the nice cold creek!!
Spent the eclipse 2017 here. Was amazing! Great people. Great staff. Lots of learning oppourtunities. Floated and swam the big river. Easy access.
Beautiful place, not very crowded.
Some of the best rock climbing within an hour of St. Louis. Great hiking trails and campsites. There's also wifi in the camp grounds.
I loved this place. We had a great time in cool water.. Nice place to cool down after a hot..
This park is beautiful and the trails are maintained very well. My family really enjoyed St. Francois park and we will be back for more fun.
This place should be loved like all other places because it is a place and we should be thankful for that.
For almost 40 years we camped here at St. Francois State Park, now we are hosting. What a wonderful park.
Great little area to take the family. I have two boys and they had so much fun we went two weekends in a row.
Many river access points, campgrounds were good but very limited, reserve in advance!
Pleasant experience. Camp sites close to each other. Big bathroom very clean
Nice trail along the creek. It took us 1 hr 45 mins
This is a fun place to spend an afternoon. Between the rock climbing options, hiking, and places to play in the water, the entire family had a nice time.
Beautiful, quiet stop on our trip! Loved the creek--great for wading and interesting rocks! Perfect picnic spot!
This park is amazing!! Great play areas, walking trails and awesome access to the river.. always clean!! Even the restrooms!!
Gorgeous park
Great place to go hang out with family and friends. Plenty of trails to walk and a great river to fish swim or float. Also great camp sites
Park has some great hiking trails and river access for swimming. Campgrounds are nice, some of the sites are a little too close together.
Great park easy pull thru sites nice clean restrooms and showers. Nice trails. Campground host was very accommodating.
Clean, well careful for park with nice campground.
Great place to visit.. Has some hidden gems within it! A few shady people hang around here though so go with a group to be on the safe side.
Park was very clean and quiet. The playground was fun for the kids. Staff was very friendly.
Spent the day with the wife and dogs. Very relaxing.
Very busy camp ground with well kept facilities very close to three hiking trails
I'd give it 5 stars, but I'm old and out of shape and hurt. Good trails.
Swimming holes & playgrounds for the kiddos as well as campgrounds & grills for a birthday party or 4th of July cookout!
Nice place to take family to play in river.
Interesting museum along with a great campground on the river. The staff there were super friendly and helpful.
Legit Awesome
I had a barbecue with my friend and his family there
Highly recommended
Nice trail pretty well maintained and the pup loved it
Not bad, just don't go alone
Very beautiful place. I loved it besides not feeling safe at some points. Besides that, 5/5.
Great place for enjoying nature and families. Pavilion 1 is next to a playground and Creek, which make it ideal for small children.
Beautiful park! Lots of rock cliffs and wonderful views. Definitely recommend!
I love this park. The host are always very friendly and attractive. The sites are clean and the reatrooms/showers available. The river is beautiful.
Beautiful place and very kid friendly
Very clean. The nicest people work here.
Great nature walks, small creek and nice camping areas.
One of the best parks in Missouri great hiking horseback riding but you got to bring your own horse primitive camping and setups for campers just a great time big river access for swimming or fishing or just relaxing by the river
My fave park. Always quiet, I can sit by the river without 100 people crowding me. River can be hard to climb down to, be advised.
Get place to relax for 2 legs or 4 😂 …
This park can hold Beautiful memories in times life can be stressful. Keep your chin up and enjoy the beauty our Lord has given all who enter ! 😊🙏 …
Nice state park. Campsites are a little closer than I prefer but nice trails and lots of trees.
Beautiful park. Nice shallow area of the river to cool down in. Very family friendly.
I love the outdoors, and I know others who do will love this place too!
Clean. Very pretty great place to take the dogs. Go hiking. One of the best river accesses we have found in the area.
Great place to camp or take a hike. Most all of the camping spots back up to woods for privacy. The water is near also!
Good camping, good price.
Beautiful please, clean, very nice, fishing is great, camping is great, swimming is great for big river, it's an awesome park to bring the family for a nice day

Great swimming holes great fishing holes great picnic areas clean camping areas a must place to visit
Very clean campgrounds very nice staff easy river access and trails
I miss the days when the state took pride in their parks and trimmed areas near the water. Most areas are overgrown and shabby.
We have our family reunion here every year and camp. The campground is beautiful
Really fun hike at Mooner's Hollow. Took kids and they enjoyed it as well. Clean bathrooms.
Great place to spend time with your family with multiple activities available like swimming, hiking, riding bikes, playgrounds; just about anything you enjoy outside
Love this state park. There is usually plenty of wild life to look at and it's taken care of very well. Always kept clean.
Area is kept up whether in campsite section or Rv . electric sites are available 1 mo. Reservation. Sell icebags, wood n icecream
Walk down really steep hill and went swimming in the river was really great time with the kids
Outdoorsy no walk down steps to river for elderly. Loved though with beach
Very scenic trail. Park is open sunrise to sunset unless you are camping. Camping in designated areas only.
Great trail experience. Bathrooms could use updating.
It is a very nice quiet park with a lot of hiking trails and if you are camping the Park hosts are very helpful and friendly
Clean park, decently kept river access. Never a problem when going here.
We went on a cub scout camping trip and used the special use area it was very large and very secluded from the rest of the camp sites.
This is a great place to take your kids to let them wind down! There are playgrounds and a river to swim and fish!!
Beautiful place. One toilet open during winter in the first area on the left.
Great place to find a place to swim. Very shallow and kid friendly

The natural beauty of this quiet scenic peaceful place I found to be so relaxing and the view of all the sky trees wild life is spectacular
It's a nice quiet place. Good trails but an "off" vibe.
Decent rock climbing!
The area was beautiful but the trail was not easy to walk on. Not accessible to people with disabilities or even balance problems.
Grandkids had a blast on both occasions, they have requested to stop there everytime we travel between Ar and Mo
Our favorite trail so far
Man, this place is gorgeous! Be aware, trails have many obstacles including loose rock and moving water.
Would be nice if they would make stairs down to the water so it's easier and safer for those less fortunate people to be able to go up and down to the water to enjoy it
Our family had a great time at the campground. The river is close and the park is super clean
Better signage needed but very neat park.
Beautiful place to visit. I come here a few time a year to visit and have never been disappointed.
Beautiful part of nature if you like to walk trails or just have a picnic lunch.
Clean bathrooms and sites. Helpful staff. Must be near a racetrack. Loud after dark.

Decent space to camp, friendly camp hosts and good showers if you find the right one. Hint, second on men's room side.

Very nice campsites with a number of pull through sites and multiple access points to river

Good little getaway spot.
Went to see the lights. Was not that impressed, for $20. Hot chocolate was fantastic, and probably the best part of the trip, sadly.
