Reviews of University of Washington Intramural Activities Building (IMA)
grandfrosty
This visit did not convince me to attend this University. The cop, who was on campus by the stadium told me the nearest bathroom I could use was at the hospital. I'm unsure if he gave me that misleading information on purpose or not. One of the open buildings on campus (a lot closer than the hospital) was open... In the direction I was already traveling. I'm not sure if he was campus police or not. If he was not, then I wonder why he was parked himself on campus. If he was campus police, he should have known where a bathroom was located. Maybe the school has the Seattle Freeze policies still in effect. If he did not know, he should have said so. Being a public official at a public school...and misleading a member of the public who might drink too much water, on occasion, is just another example of policing gone BAD in America. They should clean up their act, and protect and serve or get the hell outta the way. How much lying and deceiving are they subjecting the unwitting college students with? It's a public school, so I guess the agenda is to turn out hard working slaves. I'm disabled, disgruntled, and disgusted. Thanks
Nathan Christopher
UW tennis courts are the BEST! Such nice tacky court-feel.
R Sea
Mostly a gym user and badminton court user.
Good experiences with the staff and student workers.
Would appreciate if the bathrooms was cleaner and cleaned more frequently. Most guys around this age have problems cleaning after themselves.
Badminton nets are a bit old and not the traditional higher end types you see in badminton clubs. Adequate enough to play matches and games. Might be a bit crowded on Friday afternoons.
Parking is a bit expensive if you're here frequently.
Currently no locker room to change due to renovation.

it's a pretty nice gym - maybe the nicest i've been to. unfortunately, a lot of patrons don't bother to put equipment away when they're done with it, and, in order to get in, you have to be a student, staff or faculty or a +1 or guest of student, staff or faculty, and getting a 1-day guest pass costs $10.

Some people graduate from UW having never visited this place. What a waste! I used to hit up this place 3 times a week (graduated in 2018). This place is great though very far and out of the way. The IMA is on the very south top of the school, 5-min walk from the Link but at least 15min from main campus. 4 floors total. IMA used to close around 10pm and parking is free at 9pm.
Underground floor has a big weight rooms and the gendered locker rooms. Any machine you can think of they have them here ;) There are also rooms for dace practices and martial arts.
First floor is where the entrance is. There are people who id you. Only valid husky card holders can get in. To the right of the entrance is a small convenience store that also sells slushes and soups?! If you walk to the back there is also a huge student lounge. First floor also has many basketball courts that are sometimes used as badminton courts. The first floor also consists of a workout room but more geared towards cardio lovers. As is third floor.
The workout room on the third floor is in the middle with running tracks surrounding it. You can look down to second floor basketball courts from the third floor. The running tracks also have a nice view to the outside. Outside of IMA are a bunch of tennis courts. The IMA also has swimming pools and racquet ball court.
Jeremy Fredricks
Perhaps one of the best investments on campus. They have several floors of free weights, a track on the top floor, exercise machines galore, mat and wooden studio rooms with mirrors, a pool, basketball courts, and a climbing wall. They also offer programs for health and wellness, physical therapy, personal training, martial arts, dancing, boat/canoe/kayak stuff, climbing, you name it. Some bad parts are that the weight room is usually packed (they do have a lot of weights and machines, though, so you can usually get some sort of workout in) and they have pretty strict or expensive policies for guests (must be 18 or older, costs $10 to host a guest, etc.). If you're a student and you exercise, IMA is well worth the time to get there to do physical activities.
Ryan R
Comprehensive facilities with everything you could hope for. Can get crowded during peak hours just like any gym. Plan your trips accordingly.
Quinn Rao
The IMA is often busy. Great gym overall though
Melodie Bales
I liked the whole Layout, but I wanted to go to the Swimming pool, but it is closed :(.until 2023
Luke H
The weight room needs better ventilation in the back. Also a lot of the machines are spread between the bottom floor weight room and the main floor resulting in having to walk between floors for different machines. Overall great selection though and they have everything you need. Locker rooms are gross and need a remodel.
Adam Das
Love it ... The gym with three floors has a tonne of machines to work out with and a huge number of free weights. All the muscles can be trained from all angles! Other than that it has a swimming pool, basketball, volleyball, badminton, lawn tennis (outside), table tennis, playing ground (outside), beach volleyball (outside). They also have fun activities on Fridays such as roller skating, archery, log rolling. etc. They also host a bunch of classes and activities such as meditation, martial arts, dance, etc. All over great place to work on your mind and body!
Angela Gulisane Maisey
The building itself is nice, and very spacious, but the parking is HORRIBLE. The lot is small and you pay, and the surrounding lots are only for certain parking passes so you can't even park there if you pay. Also, they have gone back and forth with policy regarding children being able to watch intramural games inside of the gym so depending on what staff member I talk to when I get there they may or may not let me and my son in to watch my husband play. So that's kind annoying.
Nina Mao
Lots of cardio machines and a wide range of dumbbells, but there aren't nearly enough benches and squat racks. It also get super hot and humid in the weight room. They need to increase the ventilation so I'm not breaking a sweat just walking across the room.
Hussain Aladwan
Musty gym. Hella sorority girls tho
Jenny Lai
Good place to work out for students and employees. Tend to be busy between 8-11am and 3-7pm. Three floors of exercise equipment, including an indoor track as well as basketball courts and pool. Around 6 racketball courts are available to reserve but most of the time, reservation is not necessary.
Andrew Chin
S'alright, pretty good for a campus gym. I focus on powerlifting movements, so I'm mostly down in the free weight section. It can get really crowded but it's to be expected with so many people at school here. I always manage to get my work done at a reasonable time though. The knurling on barbells varies from ok to horrible; if you're planning on deadlifting, find yourself an alright one, throw on some liquid chalk and call it good. There's a lot of machines I don't use but people seem to be satisfied with them. The yoga classes are really great too, and it seems there is something for everyone here.
Jacob Brown
This is a big place with lots to do. There are 3 work out areas, a track, 5 multi use courts for basketball, volleyball, etc, a pool, large locker room with steam room and shower, and even a cafe for grab and go foods. It should be noted that despite it's size when this place is busy it's BUSY. Large crowds and no space to actually work out will be the case during peak hours.
Chad Sheffield
Decent equipment and lots of space, but poorly maintained and mostly indifferent general staff. Great for personal training though.
Khang Dinh
They are closed all the time. Saturday and Sunday hours in the summer are 11am to 630pm and 1pm to 530pm, respectively. I've never seen hours like that for a gym. They have a few million dollars of equipment sitting idle for what seems like a high proportion of the time.
Ingvar Ingimundarson
Great sports complex, the pool and the lockers are under construction until fall 2023 which is a big minus but I’m going to look past that and give five for what it is when not under construction.
Roger Liao
My fitness journey starts from here. Go to ima from time to time even after I have graduated. Such a great vibe. Spacious basketball court and the weight room is just legendary.
Nicola Kalderash
The IMA as it is colloquially referred to is awesome. Membership isn't free, even for students, it's factored into our tuition, but damn, there's anything you could ever want in a gym here. Pool? Check. Basketball court? Check. Squash room? Check. Track? Check again. Gym? Check. And so much more. And it's pretty easy/noticeable to get to from campus. Highly recommend!
Garrett Landry
Also known as the Safeway fields. These fields are a good place to bring a group and start playing whatever sport you want. They are pretty well maintained but if it has rained recently they get pretty cruddy. Also they get stinky, because it is rumored that the field is over top of an old landfill.
Tony E
Have been to the tennis courts a bunch of times. They're in very good shape. Non UW persons can use the courts although students and faculty get priority through online reservation
Dakota Roberts
It's normally a good time, but last time I went there was this weird older guy that was running around like he was on crack and bothering everyone in the area like "HOw mAnY MorE seTs?" So that he could move the weights 3 inches and run to the next area, I feared for my life.
Gerardo Zelaya
There is a lot of activities to do, even for a beginner like me. And they have a lot of classes from beginner to advanced students. I enjoyed their raquetball courts and the pool.
Pawit A.thikumporn

Phúc Tô Hoàng

Eric
Great place to work out with lots of different options for cardio or strength workouts
Ana Carolina Sauer Liberato
Nice to students to work out. The facility is super cool. People could be more knowledgeable and clean out their equipment after the use.

Weight room needs more equipment
MATT NGSANITY
Awesome place to workout...and it's free with tuition! Can be busy often, but if you go at the right times, it's perfect!
Alan Avalos

Edward Halim
Best place to work out and play basketball!
Cindy Helfrich
Good price, limited parking, the usual equipment, could use more mats, TRX, and bosu balls. Personal training is excellent. Private rooms and equipment
Parker Ciambrone
Overall good gym. Not as receptive to feedback as they'd like people to believe (see complaints about them senselessly removing equipment on Reddit) and a little slow on maintaining other equipment.
Karen Powers
I am a swimmer and I have used the IMA pool for years. This is such a great deal for the University community. Excellent facilities are a great price.
Dee Dee Mohr
Was here to watch granson swim. Only issue I have is I am disabled and the bathroom in the swimming area was locked. Who does that? Holds an event and locks the bathrooms. I played he'll finding a place to go
