Reviews of Horseneck Beach State Reservation

It's always a 5 star for me! But the beach is extremely rocky so wear good shoes if you're walking on the beach. As the shoreline is every changing you never know what to expect! Lucky for us that live here to have such a beautiful unspoiled spot!
Mike Dale
This is a good beach. One of the best, honestly. It's so huge, it's hard for it to feel crowded, which is awesome for a Massachusetts beach. The area that is entirely sandy is smaller, but still large. The rest is round cobbles, not unpleasant to walk on if you're going slowly, with tons of shells and interesting things mixed in. There's a great paved path as well! The only downside is the relatively steep drop off in the water; no quarter-mile-long wading area like Wingaersheek. If you're feeling adventurous, it's a couple mile walk down to the point with the old listening post (barefooters beware this area though, lots of broken glass). In general, worth the drive, especially if you're used to the crazy busy north shore beaches. Parking is basically never a problem!

We brought our 2 kids (20months & 3.5 years old) & we had a great time! We paid $13 for parking, credit card only, on Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Arrived at 1020am, tons of parking and still tons of parking when we left shortly after lunch. There was a ramp by the second bathhouse which was a true bonus because of the wagon we use and for our 3.5 year old son to walk most of the way. So thankful for the wheelchair accessibility, even onto the sand which is so wonderful to see. It wasn’t too crowded. Lots of lifeguards. From the paved walkway, it’s sand, then rocks, then seaweed, then ocean. The kids loved finding good rocks and seashells as treasure and had a great time playing in the sand. The second bathhouse was well maintained. We will definitely be back. We made some great family memories at the beach.
Elizabeth Bucha
The beach was beautiful, enough Parking space but you pay at the meter, the wave was a little stronger but enjoyable. The ground is a bit rocky close to the shore so swimming shoes are comfortable. It was a beautiful summer day experience.🌊🌊🌊❤️ …

Off season, a great place to enjoy on leash beach time at the ocean. Respect the dunes and stay out. There is enough space for fun while being respectful.
Mary Ann Moisan
Loved the renovated campground! No need for generators. Dry camping along the ocean. It’s my new favorite state park!
Lindsay LeBoeuf
It's not the best beach but it is close. Depending on the day, there may be lots of seaweed or rocks but overall it's an ok beach for traditional summer beaching. However, for fall and winter walking, this beach is primo! I love taking my dog to walk from end to end when dogs are able to visit (I believe Oct-Apr).
During the summer months, you pay for parking at parking machines for a dashboard ticket or via app, and there are food trucks with burgers, fries, chicken tenders, etc. available until 5:30pm. I believe parking may be free after 5pm. The nearby Buzzards Bay Brewing is great for a quick brewery stop before heading home.
Lilly B
Lots of parking and it's relatively inexpensive at only $13 for MA residents. The the app Yodel makes it easy to purchase parking and cruise right in! We like to take the paved path to the far side of the beach for a bit more room, but it looks like even when it's busy, there isn't a bad spot to set up camp for a great beach day.
Oly *****
Nice, quite, peaceful place. Going to be there mire and more.... As a camp is good enough but you will need generator for RV. Long water hose mostly places more than 150 ft
Matthew Raudonis
The beach is pretty expansive. We visited on a Sunday afternoon in October and there were not many other people. The beach is wide and sandy, but on this day there were also many surf clams (shells) and various sized rocks which made walking barefoot close to the water somewhat troublesome.
MA state residents pay $13 to park for the day. As an out of state resident we Paid $40 which is probably appropriate during summer months, but on this afternoon there were zero amenities available. The store and restrooms were closed and locked. I was not expecting Lifegaurds in October, but a sign posted on the beach (after you enter/park/pay/haul your stuff across the boardwalk that protects the dunes down to the beach) stated "NO Swimming". That would have been good information to have upon entering the park.
We hadn't really planned to "swim" but the water was surprisingly warm and the sun was out so we did wade into the water a bit, as did some other people and no one seemed to prevent that.
Anthony Pagliuso
Warmest water in Massachusetts. 74 degrees on July 23, 2022. Park at the end and walk with your gear out onto the little peninsula. Choose any little path on the right to lead to a beach. This is facing SW towards Long Island, warm water.
hui yu
A great beach that isn't too crowded and has plenty of parking at $13 for the day. I recommend bringing your own snacks and lunch because food is limited to a food truck that closes early. Also, water shoes are ideal for the many rocks along the beach. Last thing is if you need to use the public bathrooms, you might need to hold your breathe because the order is quite strong.

Visited this beach last weekend with family. The beach is very clean and sand dunes are clearly visible. Love the waves and sand glistening in the sun. A perfect sunny romance. Also, a fun place for a short hike along the beach..
Terrance Ray Trybus
I thoroughly enjoyed my time on Horseneck Beach. Beautiful walk and breath taking views. The sand dunes are incredible but some area are off limits to protect the wildlife. Can't wait to take the family camping here.
Carissa Silva
Wonderful place to go camping. Mostly handicapp accessible. Playground on-site. Bathrooms decent with showers in them. A cleaning station to wash dishes. Great place for first time campers, elderly, people with small children, or handicapp. Right on the beach, too. We had a great time!
William Dunscomb
Great beach, changing rooms and restrooms available. 13 for MA residents to park for the day or buy a season pass for 60. No food/drinks available on-site, while there is usually a cash only ice cream truck parked in front of entrance 2. Seems to always be a lot of seaweed in water, but usually great waves the kids love.
Michael Carvalho
I Love this Beach! We arrived at 1:30 PM and the Park Rangers are always smiling and friendly. The water was perfect and the sun shining. My Father’s Day plan with my children. Life Guards are within site of each other. As they walk the beach they interact with the children and guest. Outgoing, professional and friendly always. Such a nice way to spend Father’s Day! If you are looking for a lace to go and enjoy the day Horseneck Beach is the place to go. The sand is clean, plenty of space and A+ recommended by Me!
Sumit Ghosh
Visited this beach last weekend with family. The beach is very clean and sand dunes are clearly visible. Love the waves and sand glistening in the sun. A perfect sunny romance.
Amy Monteiro
We always enjoy this beach. When there's waves it's so much fun. Yes it can be crowded, but we always get a parking spot. Sometimes the red tide can be gross, but when there isn't any seaweed it's nice.
Mike B
Very clean well kept beach. Was here in February so cannot speak about the crowd. There is a $20 fee for out of state plates to park. Great walking area with old WWII installations along the trails. Excellent bird habitat. Definitely worth the visit.
Mariel Epps
My first time there ever and it was perfect! Sunny day then overcast, but the beach was very clean. A few rocky areas, but nothing water shoes cant fix. Some few seagulls but you can just shoo them away. Very nice lifeguards too.
Mikki B
Such a gorgeous beach. For Pokemon lovers, the beach also has a poke' stop. I've never seen water such a beautiful shade of blue. If you're not afraid to venture out a little, get close to the water by following one of the many paths, or take in the scenery as soon as you park. Love this place!
Heather Sanders
What a gorgeous beach!!! We went out on an overcast day, that was a really rainy, but still well worth it! The trails to beach were so pretty, and we saw many different flora and fauna as well as many crabs, snails, and frogs.
Kiera
Was beautiful! Would definitely come to this beach again! So natural and calm. Packed with people, great area. Just absolutely loved this beach. Ice cream truck came by as well, decent prices. Love the wooden paths and gazebos. Plenty of parking as well
Andrew R Morse
Good camp ground, awesome views. Could use a better playground. Not consistent on what time guests can come for free. Some people charge all night some people stop charging after 4 or after 5 or 6 its just frustrating.
Patrick Fallon
This gem of an area is showing some tarnish and ware. The facility is an older one. The views are fantastic but the wind is continually blowing.
If you possess any charity perhaps bring along some dry goods and some clothing you might have donated. There is an element of the less fortunate. .. aka the in park homeless. They are not hard to find at horse neck. Poor but harmless was our experience. Anonymous donation well received.
Daniel Fallon
There were 2 close bathrooms which were key. The beach itself is a bit rocky but there is ample room if you are willing to walk a bit. There is a great paved walking path through the dunes for when you get bored.
Lissamasters
My favorite place on the planet.
Gooseberry Island, which is just a little further down on 88 and over the causeway, was packed when I got there. There was not one parking space.
Horseneck, however, was surprisingly quiet when I arrived.
Lots of larger rocks on the beach...I heard someone saying they had been brought up by the storm.
They were not even an issue...the beach was absolutely glorious and the atmosphere was perfect.
SM
My favorite summertime beach. It does have a lot of rocks but wear your flip flops in the water & you’ll be fine. Also it’s cheaper to get an annual pass for the summer rather than play a daily fee!
Mellisa-Sue Shamey (Patches)
I'm revising my 5 star rating from a short visit last year to a night stay this year to a 4 star rating. This campsite has very friendly staff and a clean beach, however there were cigarettes on the camp site that was gifted to me and my boyfriend from his parents for a night. (I do smoke yet try to clean up after myself always and try not to be a rude smoker. Plus each site should be combed between stays, however I do know this is not 100% possible on public/state or Federal land.)
I was woken up at 6 am by trucks with trailers leaving, not the parks fault however we were at the front entrance sadly, a horrible site to be fully honest.
There is not much grass on the camp reserve, mostly sand and ours was mostly sand and rocks so it's not the most idea for actual camping.
The camp sites are very, very close compared to the other 48 state run camps I have visited in my 30 plus years of camping.
At 8 am the city trash truck ( I'm guessing it was the weekly trash collection) showed up making it even harder to enjoy the experience. (Maybe ask the city to pick a time later in the day during the middle of the week? My during down time like between check out at 11am and check in at 1pm.
This seems mostly a site for RVs due to the dump feature and power supply at the sites rather then a true camping experience I prefer from reserves with tents (call me old fashioned and a critic if you think so.)
Over all I enjoyed the beach very much so yet did not find the camping sites up to par for what I enjoy from actual camping.
I gave it 4 stars instead of 2 because the staff were extremely friendly and diligent in duties like mowing the small amount of grass on sites, greeting campers, being on site for emergencies and keeping the bathrooms very clean thankfully! That should be highly noted for any camp ground!
E L Guerrero (lalechuguita)
Lifeguard were very attentive. Water is a lot warmer than other beaches. Like Scusset, is great and sandy but too cold.
Lots of seaweed, rocks and shells.
My bag was a couple of pounds heavier because my kid new rock and she'll collection .
Bring your water shoes.
We had ours and had a great time.
Don't forget your plastic bag to take your trash away
Erika Mainville
Great place. Public bathrooms are very clean and there is alot of parking. Definitely worth the drive and cost to park
Duane Shelato
Great beach. Lots of parking. The day we were there there were 4 ft waves to play in. Bring water shoes. There are small rocks in places in the watet
InquisitorRa
We went to Gooseberry Island. Free parking, but a small lot. The beach isn't like Horseneck so be prepared. It's rocky and covered in washed up seaweed. If you manage to get there at high tide though, it's not bad. There are a lot of horseflies so be prepared. It is so friendly which is a plus, but please clean up after your pet.
Hank Hao
RV site is Friendly, Quite and Balisbury Beach State Reservation pretect the Birds, Beach Dunes etc very well
D M Duffy Folmar
If you go up the wide trail from the middle of the parking lot, you can reach parts of the beach that are not very busy. It's absolutely breathtakingly beautiful and so peaceful!
Mr Moroznyak
Very nice and clean beach with lots of parking and space, normally very warm water. Has changing cabins outside so even in the after-hours you can still wash yourself off and change. One of our all-time go-to beaches.
3 reasons why I would take 1 star out:
1) Seaweeds. When you have waves at this beach, you can very often get a lot of those. In most cases, they either drift along the coast or you can just walk past them. But seaweeds are something we expect to have here in most cases, and think of that every time we go here.
2) Waves. Even though I love waves, it is not the most kids-friendly beach. It is directly related to wind, which can be pretty strong here, as in I lie on the ground and get covered with sand in about half an hour. I've seen waves taller than an average person on a sunny day multiple times here as well. Again, not a bad thing but something to consider.
3) No shade on the beach. I understand it's normal, but you should always think of something to cover yourself up if you burn like me. An umbrella or a tent is something you won't regret bringing with you here.
Otherwise, it's a perfect family beach with bathrooms, showers, changing cabin, lots of space and parking, and all of this is under the DCR pass if you utilize it.
Yizu Lulu Yeh
Very pleasant beach area with outdoor rinse facilities. Bathrooms not always clean though. Very warm waves during summer
Tesse Alexandra Melanson
This is one of my all time favorite places to watch sunset - Gooseberry Island. It has some of the most beautiful sunsets that I have ever witnessed in my life. It’s so quiet, quaint, beautiful, and peaceful. If you need a place to reset your soul, go take a drive down to Gooseberry over the causeway. The waves crashing up against the rocks always captivate me.
Bob Brezenski
A good NE beach depending on wind and sea conditions.
Currently (8/8/22) the beach has many small stones to walk over to get in water...advise wearing water shoes as it can be painful to get in or walk the beach. Surf varies with raised sand bar areas, experienced some undertow, rip-current warnings.
Staff lifeguards were posted with two at each tower, and they were vigilant to their duties, even standing at waters edge with several swimmers in their area, rotating every two hours or so.
I was impressed as the lifeguards working many other beaches seem to be distracted by social interactions, these guards were serious about their responsibility.
Beach and facilities were clean.
Great Massachusetts State Park!
Kimberly Hammel
There for the half marathon. Both of my daughters ran in it. We hung out on the beach while they ran. Great beach!
Jennifer Concheri
I like to walk down a ways where it is more spread out. The main area is heavily congested, especially on weekends. Water temp is enjoyable, big waves. If you venture down however there are no life guards
Josh V
Very nice, clean beach. Expensive for a one day beach pass for $40 out of state but worth it for the experience. plus, the boys are fun to wink at 😜. …
Judith Soha
I drove past the large parking lot and took a right when the road ended. I drove over a narrow bridge and ended up in a small parking lot. There was a small, narrow beach there. It was great.
Aaron Riseman
Nice beach, plenty of open space and lots f life guards, but tons and tons of rocks. Make sure you have water shoes or sandles to wear into the ocean
Elmuiz Ahmed
Parking is ample, although very expensive for non-MA residents at 40 dollars. No food or drinks facilities but pathroom available.
Nice sands. Water was extremely warm ( August 23) and comfortable to stay in for hours. Rocky under water ( some kind of water shoes recommended) unless you alittle further to the right and it is all soft sands, so setup your camp ( umbrella) 200 yards or so to right of entrancd.
Christopher Thomson
Compared to other MA beaches it is pretty good. Considering it isnt on the Cape, even better. State beach and therefore part of yearly parking pass permit thing, better still. Concession area on one side of beach. Central has the showers and bathrooms. If you dont mind about these things, park to the far right and hike the sand dune path for decently spread out seating. Suffers from red tide on occasion. And ultimately it is a MA beach, so cold waters and rocky shores.
Bill Wheeler
Great campground. First time doing a mass campground. Loved it, will be going back next year. Super clean great people. Oh yeah and the beach
Nick Dowd
Fantastic beach. If you want some space go further down to where there are no lifeguards. You'll have all the room you need, if you are comfortable not have life guards. The undertow is sometimes bad at this beach, just be careful and as always with swimming know your limits.
Meg Hall
Its a large spacious beach that respects local wildlife. It can be rocky but sandy enough to enjoy the space.
Inga Altshuler
Very nice, rockier than previous year. The rest as usual, water is warm, waves persistent to my taste, great for jumping in the waves, uncomfortable for leisurely swimming. Pleasant beach walk. Makes up a restful weekend
Julia Bruton
Nice wide beach. Mix of stones and sand. There was quite a bit of seaweed. The water was warmer than other beaches. The facilities are good - ticket kiosks, bathrooms, outdoors changing rooms and shower poles.
Timothy reganelectric
Great views, peaceful hang in our!
Edwick Quiles
1hr20min from Worcester, clean water, usually warmer than The Cape.....and generally well kept
Daniel Spiess
Awesome Long Beach nice waves on Southwest winds for water sports. Pebbles around the beach not just some sand. I love to kitesurf there.
MICHAEL BLAZER
Beautiful beach over 1 mile long.
Very crowded during summer months.
Beach not what it once was. It was light sand both on shore and in the water. Now as beautiful as it looks there is gravel type stone throughout with the exception of a few small areas.
It is still beautiful nonetheless
Tamara Baird Ryder
Nice quiet beach area with nature trails.
Helen M.
Great camp ground and staff,, friendly and helpful
Lots of nice sites,, not crowded at all.
No internet was the only negative, but it was good to unplug from TV/computers
M Ladetto
Despite a recent shark sighting and manawar jellyfish, things had cleared out and we were able to get in the water. Plenty of parking. And enough space on the beach to spread out
The Math Help Site
Nice clean campground. Not wooded. Mostly camping on a field on other side of dunes to the beach. Bushes/plants give sites some privacy. Some sites along beach. Small playground(swings and sandbox). Beach is rocky but when tide is out nicer for swimming. Camp pass gets you into horseneck beach. You can walk/ride bikes to Gooseberry Island or use the bike path through the dunes to ride to Horseneck Beach. Fun beach camping. Can hear waves from sites.
Diane Ellen Hunter
We loved it but you really need water shoes. It is a bit rocky there. Restrooms great and ONeils Food Truck had the best marinated steak tips when we were done!
M M
Beautiful ocean views but quite rocky. Also, I was eating a salad with chicken when a seagull collided with my head in a successful attempt to steal a bite of chicken. Seagulls are cannibals?
BILL M
Had a wonderful camping experience.
Dianne DiGiacomantonio
As always, Horseneck is the BEST! Big expanse of beach and water is pretty warm. Living over an hour away, I go as often as I possibly can!
Sandra
Nice beach overall, pretty long and has a large capacity. I wish there were any water sports rentals (e.g pedal boards). They have a volleyball net though
wepainttheworld
Great place for a short bike ride for a sunset experience!
Beth Waltke
Love this beach. Well maintained beach, handicap accessible beach, clean bathrooms, soft sand, and great waves. Lots of parking. This is a state beach, so if you have a park pass, you park for free.
André Wolff
This is our second (to Crane) favorite beach in MA. Warmer watchers, nice crowds, volleyball nets, restrooms, affordable and abundant parking. Depending on the ride strength it can get rocky, and there's usually some kelp to navigate (and to take off of your swimwear). Not too far from the BOS area.
Judi Riley
I have been going to Horseneck beach for over 50 years. It's a beautiful beach to walk, swim, and play games. I have met many nice people there.
Bryan Casey
This is a really clean beach ⛱. A lot of fun to walk and listen to the surf. Also no trash anywhere on the beach.
Paul Luc Girard
This is a very calm and peacefull State park/reservation. Beach at campground is rocky but only at high tide. Low tide exposes a beautifull sand bottom. Quite swimmable. Nice staff and operation.
Daniel Andre
Love it, the entire stretch of the horse neck reservation for Gooseberry Island, camp grounds, the beach, through Cherry N Webb and even across to elephants rock and beyond, has been nothing but breath taking to say the least.
Patrick Michael
Definitely safe no waves more lifeguards than people and mounted state police on horse. Rocky beach I don't understand why they don't get a few loaders to remove rocks
John Sargent
No hook ups but close to the beach. Bring water footwear. The beach is covered by small to med size rocks. At low tide there is 1/2 of the beach which is sand, but you will need to cross the loose, smooth rocks. They are concidering installing some hook ups in the 1st row of sites(furthest from beach) in winter of 2018/2019.
Chezz M.
Great place. Parking was $13 with MA plates, my friend from RI had to pay $40, though. Keep it in mind. Be careful, no trespassing through the sand dunes... Fines are $25,000
brandon haskell
Great place to watch the sunset and a star lit night. Also a great place to study horseshoe crabs.
Kristen Olson
Beautiful beach, nice and clean but too many rocks
Therese Leacu
Beautiful beach. The water temperature is 69° on July 24, 2022. Fun waves to swim in.
Laurence Boilard
Really nice campground ! The facility was clean and the staff friendly. The view was amazing :)
Kevin F
Good beach warm water as far as new england goes. Budget friendly parking.
Edsa 51
Beautiful beach! Bathrooms, although relatively new, did not appear to be well maintained. Stalls were disgusting.
Renah Cardona
I just love the beach! Been going since I was a kid
Lyssa Angélique
Off-season mid-week visit: head across the causeway to Gooseneck Island... Quiet, peaceful, and relaxing.
Kathy Tompkins
A bit (very) rocky, so wear water shoes! All amenities are great ..food, showers, first ⛑️. Excellent waves!
Will
Nice beach without any frills. No bars or attractions results in a peaceful environment.
Giselle G
I was there a bit 'off season', a week after the Labor Day weekend so saying it wasn't crowded should be taken into consideration. Plenty of parking lots along the beach. Very clean and nice restroom and changing area. I believe I saw showers too in order to rinse off. It is pay to park or if you have a MA state park pass it is free.
Michael Cerreto
Great Beach, State Park too. Love the off-season
Al Whalen
Nice beach, just a lot of pebbles/rocks near the waterline. Expensive parking, especially for out of staters.
Melanie Egan
Love it here!!! Just difficult to make reservations 🌴 …
monique kreiner
Always a great time at this beach..my old stomping grounds..😘 …
Michelle Dearth
Beautiful quiet very enjoyable definitely going back and very inexpensive 💘 …
Anushree Jai
Good beach but no lifeguards. Lots of space for paid parking available.
John Budish
Nice campground with good clean amenities. Things were pretty quiet too. The people who work there are helpful and friendly. Keep in mind my visit was mid-may and not in the busy season. Since this campground is pretty much right on the beach, expect to deal with wind. Lots of it. The tent we brought was tall, so the wind was shaking it a bit. Next trip, shorter tent.
andre langston
Not a bad beach. Just where the bathroom area the smell was pungent to say the least .. overall a good trip
Leslie Rap
Good price, but there is a lot of rip current and a big rock bed. The sand dunes are beautiful.
Kim
Rocks! Rocks and more rocks. It's like a reef of rocks. The sand is soft before the water but as you get closer to the edge it's all rocks and it doesn't improve until the tide goes out.
On a good note - its easy to get to. It's cheap to park and plenty of parking. They have facilities and food trucks. If you don't mind wearing water shoes all day to avoid the rocks, it's a good beach.
Deedra Duntin
OMG my vist to this beach was amazing, walking along the beach with my family was simply amazing, will be returning soon 😍 ❤ 💖 ♥ 💕 💗 …
Ryan Humphrey
Great place to visit. The campsites at the State Reservation are very well kept. Essentially surrounded by beaches; with both East Beach and West Beach (highly recommended) within biking distance of the campgrounds.
Scott Custadio
Not your prestigious beach w the bluest water or the perfect sand but it's my perfect beach. Spent my summers as a teenager on this beach and made some great memories. Learned too surf fish here and if you know then you know.....
Marc Spisto
Beautiful, clean, well maintained- a true gem. Really enjoy the walking rails through the dunes.
Alex C
Love this beach. Calm water that stays warm into September.
Sarah Anzora Newbert
Awesome beach! Lots of huge shells, great waves, soft sand. Be careful of the riptides.
fish stickz
Neat little path going thru the island once you reach the end there's a nice beach
E A
Love this beach, great waves, not too crowded, $13 before 5 pm, free after, bathrooms are relatively clean and spacious but a sign says they close at 7 pm, just beware, the first parking lot takes you to an all sand beach, the second one is sand for sitting and sand in the water but you have to walk over a wide layer of small sharp rocks to get from the beach to the water, painful without water shoes !
Christopher Simpson
Fantastic beach. Beautiful, warm water, not crowded.
Kyle W
I really enjoyed my visit to Horse neck beach. I was surprised to find plenty of open parking spaces. It cost 13 dollars for a Massachusetts plate to park. I went with the intention of surfing and although the waves weren't the best, they were still good size and powerful. I really enjoy that this beach feels remote. Complete with rolling sand dunes and seagrass. All around a great beach. They also have bathrooms and showers.
Paul Mahony
Nice beach. Good for families with gentle waves most of the time, but their can be occasional rip currents. A little tough on the feet entering the water with about 10 yards of rocks until you get to the water's edge. A great deal for seniors. No charge if you get the Mass. DPR senior pass which is good for life.
Cheryl Lavoie
Such a beautiful spot to watch the sun set!
Sam Squailia
Great beach. So many Quohogs! Saw a live one! Many piping plovers. Sandy beach....nice bathouse. $12 parking for MA plates. Can pay with CC
Manny Almanzar
This place is beautiful 🤩 definitely coming back! …
Scott McLaughlin
Good bathroom facilities. Nice sand (rocky in places). This is about as handicapped accessible as a beach gets.
Lisamarie St Jean
Amazing walking paths. The ocean is all around you and absolutely breathtaking. The people are so friendly. It makes me feel good to know that so many folks care about the environment and clean up after themselves. It's an absolutely beautiful place to spend the day!
oomamii
A long beach with soft sand and a lovely sunscape on the right day. Heading towards the water gets super rocky with the water itself being infested with seaweed. Ignore that, and riding the big waves will be a great time.
Stop by the food truck at the pavilion for some tasty, albeit overpriced, eats!
Neil Judell
Great state park. You can take your dogs from September 16 through March 31. See people kite surfing, people riding horses, sandpipers. Have a picnic. Parking is $13 for MA plates, and way more than that for out of state.
Rob Canavan
Love this place. Beach is always clean and a pleasure to go to. Always plenty of parking always refreshing water. Always great sites
Gui Aguilar
Absolutely beautiful, and so many life guards thru the whole beach.
Kristofer Karas
Beautiful beach, though rocky, with strong waves and currents despite a shallow drop-off. Water is warmer than on the cape or north shore. Beware the seagulls! I have bandaged fingers as I pen this on account of 4 seagulls attacking me at once; very aggressive. There are two changing houses at the public parking areas, with decent restrooms; foot washing stations outside were inoperative on my last visit.
paul peltier
South facing beach so the water is warmer. Great body surfing tides right now. Beach is a little rock in spots but, still very nice. Great family crowd.....very cool beach
Miles Gibson
Water was a nice temp but to much seaweed for me. But I heard it was low tide which caused it.
George Muggleton
Gooseberry and Horseneck beach is great. And the WW2 watch tower is a nice attraction.
Dan Harlow
Was great had a handicap wheelchair that we used on the beech
Adam Ross
Horseneck is one of my favorite beaches. Anywhere.
It is pure quintessential New England sand and surf. As a state park it is only beach; no busy boardwalk with kitschy shops and tourist traps.
Plenty of parking, showers, bathrooms, and a well-maintained beach makes this site perfect for anyone who wants a day by the ocean without the distraction of bustling civilization behind them. In the summer the water gets pleasantly warm and will sometimes maintain a comfortable level until early October. Depending on the tide, or what the storms offshore are doing, the waves can be either decent for some body surfing or good enough for a board.
Westport is an old Massachusetts coastal town so, after you've rinsed the sand from the unmentionables, roam around as there is no shortage of local eateries, shops, and art galleries to find.
Pete Tavares
Horseneck is very pretty, water Temps are nice. Plenty of parking but very Rocky all over the sand and shore. Bring water shoes. Know for strong current and undertow, so be cautious. Bathrooms.
Kevin Pelletier
Well Gooseberry Island beaches are right down the road its free and as a local that's the spot my son and I like to go verse Horseneck due to parking prices the amount of people that go there
Stacie Burton
Favorite beach for years!! but now they are no longer moving the rock piles you will need. Good water shoes to make it to the water. You also run the risk of rolling your ankle on them.
Feel horrible for the life guards who have to brave them. To ensure swimmers safety
Happy summer 2021.
DrkDsrt 76
Great beach. It never feels crowded because the beach is so big. The parking lots are huge, so you never have to worry about finding a spot. Sometimes the beach can be super rocky, especially after big storms.
Paul Knarr
Free parking in the winter and can still walk the beach without crowds or walk the bike path through the dunes
Joy squares
Nice beach, lots of parking, and bathrooms. Down side is there is no food stand. Be sure to pack your own food and drinks.
D B
Absolutely amazing place, easy to park cristal clean water 🌊, nice waives …

I have been to Horseneck Beach many many times. And, I always loved it as a kid. I think there are four interesting parts to Horseneck Beach. The first part is the beach itself. Now, the state reservation area tends to be a little rocky. And there is some seaweed no doubt. But there is also a way to experience the beach in many different ways. My wife and I have electric bikes, and there's a bike path that connects Gooseberry, Horseneck Beach, the camping area, and Cherry and Webb Beach. Cherry and Webb Beach is where you're going to find the softest sand and the cleanest beach. However, it's only available to Westport residents. But if you have a bicycle, you can tie up your bike and then go to the beach. My wife and I drove our electric bikes right onto the beach and set up a site and had a great day. Once we were done at the beach for the day, we took our bikes up to Bayside restaurant and had some seafood. I reviewed Bayside in a separate post, but I will tell you that it is a fantastic restaurant and a great way to finish the day.
T.j White
We love how big this beach is, decent amenities, nice sand and it's really not very rocky compared to some other beaches.
The water can be a bit rough at times because it is ocean water and beware of the seagulls, they will scavenge through your bags if you give them a chance to do so.
Overall, Horseneck is a great beach for the whole family to spend an entire day at.
Emily Goyette
In the past few years the beach has gotten very rocky. Only certain sections of the water front are clear and those spaces are generally very over crowded. The pavilion is very well maintained and there is a pavement path along the top of the beach that is great for walking or running.
Carol Skidmore
Been going to this beach for many years. Love it & driving around Westport - so picturesque
Michael Pants
Good beach! I was super disappointed at first. Where I got on the beach was all rocks and crowded AF. If you walk a while you can find great sand and fewer people. Parking is expensive if not driving a car with Mas. plates.
Peter Carreiro
Always a great time camping there. Sites now have electric
Tom Faris
Nice beach. I have been going there since I was a little boy.
kelli griffin
The red tide was not pleasant but once you get past it the water was warm
Tony Bilbao
Had a great walk and discovered some art!
Cindy Quick (Cindy Lu Who?)
The bathrooms need a system flush more often. The beach authority should invest in raking out the stones in the ocean & on the sand.
Anna Nehring
Had a great beach day here with my friend. Easy access to bathrooms and plenty of sandy beach space. It was crowded however and parking is by the day instead of the hour so we paid $13 for each of our cars despite only going for a couple hours.
Michelle Saucier
A little rocky near the shoreline but tolerable, once you got in the water it was a sandy bottom. The only thing missing was a snack bar.
Luwana Hersom
I believe my first trip ever.
Found some beautiful pieces!!
JWork Danca
Great waves! Plenty of parking. Nice staff
Megan Tolland
Visited September 4th. Arrived at about 9:30 not many cars at all in lot at that time. You pay at the kiosk near the beach house. The seaweed wasn’t too bad when we got there, But got worse as it neared high tide. Water is cloudy. No lifeguards. Waves were decent. We saw small jellyfish but swam anyways. Saw in the news yesterday that there were a lot of man o war jellyfish in the water - never saw warnings about them.
Lynne G
Nice large beach. Can be rocky. Plenty of sand space. Bathhouse open.
Kate M
There seem to be a lot more rocks than I ever remember seeing, but it is still my favorite place on earth. Remember to watch out for the seagulls if you are eating. It is usually 5 to 10 degrees cooler on a hot summer day if you are looking for a place to cool off.
Andy Green
This is a great campground. Wonderful views of the ocean. The waves are relaxing. Watching the fire crackle is beautiful. Very nice place to camp, not just for campers, for tents too.
If you can, get a place in the first two rows next to the beach. However this is amost impossible to do. Tip... if you aren't able to book this area. Start checking around 9am EST every day or so starting a week+ before you come. You might luck out. (I did).
Only downfall is a cobblestone beach. Great to set up your beach chair, but not the best for walking or sitting on.
Kristina Martirosyan
STRONG RIP CURRENTS. But it is a nice sandy/stony beach, cheap huge parking. Nice!
Sean Effel
It's best at off times and off seasons. It's a great morning trip from the Boston area, even on a sunny day in November.
Ronson Holdswelling
The beach is now very rocky and they don't seem to clean up the seaweed and mess like they used to.
'They' meaning the state.
Also, keep in mind that if you are going there to get a season pass you have to go to the website as they do not give out season passes at this location any longer.
Skyla Franklin
Cheap parking for mass res.
Nice big waves, warm water
CariAlexandra Mari
Great beach. Only turn off was the rocks when you enter the water. I recommend water shoes. Also, a heads up. No life guards on duty. But the people who do work there did walk around to make sure everyone was alright. It wasn't a crowded day, so that made a big difference. Everyone sat at a safe distance from each other.
Erica Dack
Love this beach much more enjoyable with water shoes lots of rocks
Nicole Kominsky
I love this beach, been coming here since I was a kid with my family. My only complaint is the seagulls, watch your food....even if it is in your hand they will snatch it out. Best bet is to bring a hard-sided cooler to keep ALL your food in it and guard your food in your hand with your life! Otherwise the beach is beautiful, the area is beautiful, and there is always a little bit of wave-action going on.
Stacy Malibu
Great place!! Warm water, awesome waves!
Michael Sexton
Horseneck Beach Is Great I Love It So Much Too Do.And So Many Great People.
Dean Martin
Beautiful beach but very rocky for swimming or walking. You definitely need watershoes. There are much better beaches. The area around it is very nice however.
Jason Johnston
One of My Favorite places in the world. Love this point
Hannah Dill
Nice beach for shells and beautiful sunsets
2 Worlds Medical Doctor
Probably the best thing about this place is that it looks exactly the same as it did in the 1960s. A beautiful and scenic New England beach that offers places to grill your food. This beach lies just West of the entrance to Cape Cod on the same Atlantic coast as does the Cape itself. There are places in the area that sell food and drinks as well as souvenirs. This area is also blessed with an abundance of great, free parking spots. The water is very clean and not polluted. There are both sandy and rocky areas in and out of the water. There are also lots of big beautiful trees if you're looking for shade. Horseneck Beach is suitable for the entire family; The area is very safe.
Alecia Richards
Pure heaven, gorgeous beach.
Shawn Young
I have been spoiled with the beaches in NC. Nothing compares. This beach has rocks n shells. If that's your thing then it should work for you. We got visited by a state police mounted unit that strolled by. Seagulls didn't seem to aggressive. Plenty of beach area for visitors. Facilities were clean and so i can justify the parking fee. There was an ice cream truck that was there later in the day for those that may need a refreshment. No snack bar here or anything.
Crystal Gagne
Love this beach.... Been coming here since I was a kid. Love the waves and the soft sand castle sand.. love that it's open until 8pm and can use boogie board after 5... Passing the tradition on to the next generation and my kids love it here. I love the bathhouse with the foot showers and the raised walkway to get to the beach. 🏰 🌊 ⛱️🏖️🐚👙
Lauren Bullivant
It's a great place to stop for a beach day.
Bathrooms and food on site.
richvw1974
Great place to camp if you love the ocean
Fran Kelly
Fantastic ocean beach. Well worth having to pay to park
Shirley Fickett
Lovely place, peaceful surroundings. Pleasant visitors as well.
WhtMntHiker
A very family friendly atmosphere and well guarded by Massachusetts state Police on horse back!
Jordan Cabral
I really love Horseneck Beach. I've been going since I was a kid. Lots of sand and lots of dunes. The wave action at high tide is incredible. So much fun! It can get a little seaweedy especially after a storm but most if the time it's nice and clear. Depending on where you are you may have to walk over a narrow small rocked strip before getting to the water but once in a nice sandy bottom. Boogie boards and inflatables are not allowed. Also depending on the time of year, certain areas might be closed for the nesting piping plover, but the beach is so long there is plenty of space to be had. Because of the intense wave action you have to be on watch for rip currents but the lifeguards and plenty of them keep you notified. So you may want to keep a watchful eye on your children. It might be better if you have kids to go to Gooseberry beach which is just down the road protected by a jetty so wave action is limited. Also adjacent to the beach is part of a state reservation so you can go to a campsite on the beach provided you book in advance or put your name on the waiting list. All in all I think it's one of the nicest beaches around at a reasonable price! Surfs up!
Vitor Manuel Castro Ferreira
Love the beach. Too many rocks to get on and ouy of water but other then that love it
Myles O'Connor
Great beach! Mostly sand, always clean and lots of space to set down. Nice walking paths, but don't accidentally go back into the dump area. Two bath houses and a concession shack make it easy for families. Be ready for waterless toilets.
Victor Azer
very nice for families with children, water is calm and warm, plenty of parking, very friendly staff and great place for camping.
the only thing is that there's a lot of small rocks on the beach, Don't forget your water shoes.
Nicolas Terzian
I saw 3 horses necks. If you like horse necks this is the place for you!
meghaffer
Beautiful beach with lots of life guards on duty. The waves are big enough to be exciting for the kids, but not so big that they are intimidated or endangered by them. The sand is nice and fine without a lot of rocks. Having public bathrooms is great. As a non-smoker, I was put off by the smell of cigarettes wafting in my direction.
Johnnie Morris
Great beach for the family.
Megan Neil
Very cute beach. Large area to find a section to sit. Water was very warm when I went in June and this weekend at the beginning of September! Unfortunately the bathrooms are closed after labor day but there was one family restroom open. The price to park is steep. For out of state it's $20.
G
Beautiful sandy & rocky beach with plenty of room to spread out and get a good spot. The waves are good and a few days ago the water temp was 75. There are a few spacious and modern bath houses and plenty of parking. $13 a day for a Mass. resident. Close by eating places is Handy Hill Creamery which is several miles away. Closer by is the Bayside Restaurant and The Back Eddy for pick-up and dine-in with cocktails. Westport Point is a beautiful area!
Megan Woodworth
Most recent visit was during the winter months. Had a great visit! Very windy and very cold but worth it. We were beach combing and in maybe 2 hours were able to find six pieces of sea glass and a few specific shells we were looking for. This beach is VERY rocky and in the summer time there are a lot of horse flies hence the name of the beach. Better for adults who dont mind rocks
Karen Martin
Beautiful & peaceful, a spiritual calm for me here. Gorgeous beaches w/kite surfers off shore, & the islands off in the distance. Cruise ships & cargo ships travel the shipping lane while smaller boats catch fish for markets & restaurants not as far out. Tourists & locals equally friendly greet you on your walk. Dog friendly beaches a hard to find but they are welcome on Gooseberry Island. Parking is free & closes at 8pm. Across the street is Allen's Pond wildlife sanctuary that's a must if you're here. Endangered bird species nesting grounds, trails for miles, along w/rock cliffs to climb & a few more miles of beach. An Osprey nest is usually home to parents w babies so bring binoculars to watch them diving for fish. Rolling hills of tall grasses are a beautiful home to many bird species. Absolutely gorgeous here.
Janet H
Always a winner. Best big beach around.
Sean Higgins
Just awesome waves! Cool breeze. A bit rocky. But fun in the waves.
Alissa Delorey
One of the most beautiful beaches in Southern New England. It's one of those places that you take for granted until you hear that some people drive an hour to get here!
Beautiful sandy beach! Riptides can be really strong though so be sure to swim in the lifeguard area, especially if you have little ones!
Pretty decent bathroom facilities and they have outdoor showers.
In the summer we usually come after they stop charging for parking. Great place to sit back and relax!
Sally Morelamd
Im a southerner so The OBX of NC will always be my favorite beach on earth, that being said this place is a VERY close second, nice and clean, not over crowded, beautiful sunsets, and there is a food truck, I just haven't tried them yet.
Alan Feldman
All in all a great beach but it seams they dumped a ton of rocks along the shoreline for erosion protection I imagine and it really takes some of the joy away. Warm water great waves but there are RIP currents and you need to be on guard. There are plenty of lifeguards watching out in case you do get into trouble.
Russell Ferreira
A beautiful beach and area to spend the day .
E S
We like this beach. Usually come at least few time per summer here.
Seaguls are wild here. Make sure to hide your food and trash bag. Seen many times how they get into snacks and trash bags while people are gone swimming or take a long walk.
Kevin yum
Really nice beach, water wasn't cold at all. It's a state park so you have to pay to park or have a pass. Waves were pretty good, there's a strip of rocks smallish rocks. Then it's nice sand bar, it's pretty shallow for a good distance.
Erica O.
Beach is very clean. Usually attracts a pleasant crowd. If you go in the morning, there is good parking and spots. Lot's of rocks though, you might want something to protect your feet.
Rob Schneider
Clean, breezy, and right on the shore. Doesn't get much better than this.
OSKAR WERNER
It's the best public access we got! The beach is tired, the water is not always clean looking with algal blooms fairly frequently. It has a pretty good undertow but the lifeguards know when it cycles. The state pumped some money into the buildings and walkways making them very nice but so many people come here that they are showing wear.
Telma Soares
I love these beach. The water temperature usually is good from July to August. It's safe for kids to play around the sea. Lots of space to social distance!
Norm Ethier
Totally awesome ! Been my beach of choice ,since first visiting as a child in the mid 60s' !! Great weather ,warm water ,and minimal people ,during the week
Justin Hinds
This is a great beach. I do love this beach and before I say this I’m not cheap by any means... however $13.00 to park at the beach is absolutely ridiculous. I could almost park in Boston in a Saturday night for that. So whoever is running that show over there is absolutely price gouging... there’s absolutely no reason to charge more than $5 for parking.
Ravi Kollepara
Rocky beach. Plenty of parking. Bad restrooms. Outdoor showers are good
Rose Davis
Horseneck beach Reservation, is a big long beach. There are at least two huge parking lots. The fee for MA residents is $13, for non-residents is $40, and you can pay both by card or with cash, or even buy a pass, untill October, for $60.
The beach has restrooms, changing cabins, showers. There is a wooden trail, which leads to the beach. The only annoying thing, are the rocks. You have to walk a little, to find a spot with the sand to sit there. The entrance in the ocean is also rocky and there are many wrecks. Overall it is a good beach, and I will visit it again.
Veronika
Pretty cozy beach with cool beach food truck
Mikeyilloz
If you want to collect some rocks while at the beach this is your spot! Bring some water shoes!
john champoux
45 minutes from mendon..nice warm water nice waves..seaweed can be an issue during certain times of year..bring water walkers cause of rocks.
Ryan Johnson
Beautiful beach usually ruined by loud music, selfie addicts and trash both people and for example the diapers they leave behind. But once everyone goes home for the day and the crews have cleaned the beach it's a great spot to relax and watch a sunset.
H R
$13 for MA plate parking (daily). Lifeguards present. Waves & currents can get pretty strong. LOTS of seaweed: cannot swim beyond the seaweed line. Rinse-off stations along boathouses. Restrooms are eco-friendly. Masks are required when using restrooms.
Mark Thompson
Beautiful beach with sand dunes, waves, and a miles of shoreline for walking. Eco-friendly facilities are a nice touch for this state reservation, but the cost of parking has more than tripled recently, making one wonder how our tax dollars are being spent.
Linda O
Actually went to Gooseberry at just about Sunset and it was beautiful.
Dwight A. Ernest
Great venue for a good walk in almost any weather except when the wind is up, as this is unsheltered. Beautiful long ocean and beach views. Good place to be nearly alone in the off-season if that's what you fancy.
Br Fa
The water is warmer than the East facing beaches in MA. There's seaweed in the water and on the beach; how much varies, some weeks there is a lot.. The beach is fairly long, plenty of room. New bathrooms/changing area buildings. Big parking lot, never been turned away.
B Patton
Greatest beach around here.
Huge parking lots.
Price hiked in the last couple years.
Now they have kiosk for credit/debit cards for both day and season tickets in addition to cash lane.
Showers, bathrooms are what one would expect...fairly clean except on super busy days.
Lisa Borges
I was told this beach attracts the less than desired beachgoer. I enjoy my time there every time I visit. Since I spend my time land locked, maybe my standards aren't too high. The bathrooms are cleaner than camping and some of the others I've been too. It is a bit of a hike to the water but there is a walkway that makes it easier until you get to the sand. I did not go into the water and it was a cloudy day this visit. In the past, my family have played games on the beach and in the water and had fun. There is a concession stand. It's very relaxing and the ride in is nice too when there is no traffic since it's part of a preservation.
Sarah Cooper
Beautiful coast line, huge parking lot & nice amenities, a bit rocky
Max Schryver
It's a bit rocky for a beach keep in mind, but it's a great family/quiet beach. I go because the water is warm and very nice!
Angela Chang
The beautiful setting and lovely parking is with a visit. When we got here we saw whelk casings and shark egg casings. Went in and found lots of marine life in the ocean, including a little jellyfish and small fishes for observation. This place is usually not crowded and the only thing I don't like is the dog leavings that people don't pick up on the path from the parking.
Joey Levesque
Gorgeous first date area just walking on the beach
Kate P
Decent spot for a beach day, cheap parking. Downfall is that it’s rocky and hurts my feet to walk on the beach. A seagull snatched a sandwich out of my hand then pooped on my mom so that was kind of a downfall.
Kerry Carter
Really liked this beach. Sand was clean. Not crowded 4th of July week. Lots of seaweed in the water, but that's pretty much expected on the northeast coast. The undertow was minimal. Babies could play at the waters edge without being knocked off their feet.
Heather Rogers
Its very expensive for out of state for a day pass $40, but not too bad if you have a car full and spend the day. But its a nice clean beach and the kids had a blast in the waves.
Cynthia Lam
Beautiful beach ruff surf must be experienced swimmer, very peaceful
Oanh H.
Beautiful beach with easy parking space. The drive up is beautiful with scenic views all around. The most unique feature for me are the composting toilets. Very clean and environment friendly beach.
Peter Lacombe
Well for one thing, they do not take cash payments anymore. They have ticket machines, and you have to use either a debit card or charge card, and only Visa or Mastercard they don't take american Express or discover which is the card I have. Fortunately the attendant kindly wrote me a day pass just for today. Apparently this new system of payment was just implemented it's not mentioned on the website. Apart from that great beach
Linda Griffiths
I love Horseneck Beach. It's beautiful no matter what season. The day was warm especially for January 1st. A lovely day.
BonBon S
Beautiful beach park. Some beach front camp sites. Shower / bath house is new and clean and well lit. Showers are hot enough to feel great, although I couldn't figure out how to adjust the temperature.
Francisca Morales
I've not been here since 1988. Love this place
Susan Souza
Beautiful dunes, long sandy, shelley, and sometimes seaweed beach. Get there early because it's most popular for locals and vacationers. If have a family park closer to bathrooms, otherwise bit of a walk totting lots of stuff. MASS residents can buy annual pass $60, for numerous state parks, etc. Otherwise $15-20 each visit. Big beach goer?? Buy the pass.
Jillian Flanagan
I was here earlier this summer. My sister dragged me from half way down some place in cape cod to Fall River so we stopped off at the beach. I enjoyed listening to the waves while I was watching the flies bite my sister. Thankfully for her sake they don’t really sell anything here so she I didn’t have an opportunity to call her cheap. This was a nice beach a little crowded for my tastes but if you like sand fly’s this is your spot.
David Hohrath
Great beach! I always come here when tropical storms are hitting the southern coast causing huge waves here! (Also strong rip tides, be careful). Went earlier this year mid to late June, but wasn't the best. Way too windy! Was around 85 degrees but felt like 65-70. We had to bundle up in our towels., maybe warmer later in the year, not sure if always windy or not.
Jeffrey Olivier
I like the beach, you have to pay 13+ to park, the waves a great, plenty of beach space to set up your camp. The water is very murky with seaweed but not a lot that you can not have a great swim. The beach has sandy areas and rocky parts as well. Great beach day.
Kashia Rivers
On the seaweed side but goodebury is my spot walking around the island to find a quiet spot 😍 …
Robert Cromwell
I LOVE this beach, it is a great beach. I do not love the fact that they're steadily raising prices every year to park here, and it seems like the parking lot hasn't been done in yeeeears. I used to go 15 20 times a summer, but as its between $13-$20 to park, I'm going less and less. Its kinda sad.
Jacki Mouquin
Usually my favorite beach, but the sand/surf was much rockier than usual. Also, there was e. coli in the plumbing so there was no running water to wash hands, shower, or rinse feet. Altogether made the $20 put of state parking pass feel less worth it for the day trip.
Jackie Einstein
Beautiful sunsets and a great place to walk!
robert powderly
Best beach and great surf unless the DCR shuts down swimming in high surf. $14 to park. Clean bathhouses. Season pass purchase brings the price down for multiple uses.
Tim Taylor
Great beach, not large crowds and plenty of lifeguards. Very open and long, you can walk for miles. Only problem is that there is no place to eat so make sure you come prepared. A plus was there were no shark sightings here, lol
The Pauls
Love Horseneck Beach camping! We have been many times during the pre and post season. The campsites are spacious. Each has it's own fire ring (they do not want you to bring in your own firewood for fear of bringing non-native bugs. Firewood is for sale for $5/bundle). They do not have a camp store. At high tide the beach is covered to the rock line but as the tide goes out there is a wide, flat smooth beach for walking and playing. The nearby causeway out to the island is a fun exploration trip that can be done partially by bike or car.
The bathhouse is satisfactory. There are no hookups. There are everal water spigots and an easy to access dump site. The front row sites along the water are highly prized and wonderful if you can get one. But even if you are behind the dunes, you are never further than a few minute walk to the beach.
There are scrubby beach trees and bushes which make for nice breaks between campsites but none that are great for shade.
Heather Bento
Great time
Ian the Hairy
Just as a beach should be sandy and hot
Rebecca Hamel
My favorite beach. If you don't like crowds just keep walking down the beach and you will easily find a spot to yourself. I love the sand dunes and walking the beach in the winter. Gooseberry island is right down the street, also a good place for a walk.
Alicia Lacombe
I love going to horseneck. I've been going since I was little. It's such a fun beach. The waves are great and the life guards are very attentive. The staff are great too. It's definitely a great beach to go with the family.
Kim Killam
Best camping if you don't mind dry camping. Beautiful sunsets. Stay right across from ocean. Quiet, just listen to the waves. Love having the walking oath right there for my daily walk. They do have restrooms and showers for those who don't have them so this place is good for trailers and tenters.
Matt West
The wife and I were there for the 1st time in the summer of 2014. It's a great beach. I learned about it from a DCR tweet from the beach. It's so beautiful. It's like a resort beach. The water is warm. The waves are great. It's great walking on the beach. It's possible to walk a great distance. The swimming is awesome. There's lots of parking. It's a great summer get-away!
Rama A
Very rocky beach. Nice accessible path to bike or run. Big parking lot too.
All in all, not as great Sandy beach as on the Cape, but still worth it.
Scott Bender
Already reviewed this location why are you asking me to review twice
Alex B
The tide can be rough at times, with rocks and seaweed getting in the way. Nevertheless, the water is pleasantly warm. Consistently warmer than other beaches I visited.
Steve Norwood
Excellent beach, easy access. Sorry, I realize that the public facilities need the money to operate but I really dislike having to pay the $20 for parking. I know that I could go elsewhere, or I could go somewhere where the access is free or just stay home or WHATEVER, but $20 is still a challenge on a limited budget. But again, very nice accommodations.
Helia Greene
Great for photo shoots, walking trails and sunbathing 🌞 …
Sunessa “Sunny” Schettler
Love this place, lovely scenic beach and well maintained beach house, restrooms, and larger than usual parking area. Will definitely return!
Jess Wolfe
Beautiful beach with warm water
Avery Nelson
Very good beach! Always go here!
Jim Bromberg
Lots of walking opportunities! Mostly flat and a mix of paved trail, loose and packed sand as well as rocky / shells terrain. Which ever you pick they all have one thing in common, beautiful views!
Lisa Samagaio
My favorite beach!! Oh how I have missed you!!
Jabban22
Its a fine beach, there is too much seaweed and there is no service on your phone, but i do reccommend this beach if you like waves
Howard Meyer
Terrific quiet public beach. Limited parking. Here and a bit east on East Beach which is even more quiet and spectacular. Get there really early as parking is limited.
alisa ritchie
Great parking, outdoor showers, outdoor changing areas, and decent bathrooms. Clean with a awesome ocean breeze and waves that will lull u to sleep. My favorite New England beach
Paul Maynard
Horseneck Beach is not as nice as it used to be. Just went yesterday afternoon and there are way too many rocks to enjoy a nice walk. I didn't see a dumpster or trash barrel anywhere. For some reason they didn't even have the showers running.
H Silva
I didn't get to see the actual beach because I got there after 8 and they lock all the gates at 8 for any access to the beach. You will get locked inside as well if your car isn't out by 8. It's summer time, not sure why they would do that
Robert The 13th
Great place to camp or be at the beach for a day...!!!
Beth Eastep
Water is warm. Waves are good for all. I don't like that you can't park to the right when you pull in near the bathrooms. Also there are a ton of staff sitting around doing nothing during the week on the slow days. They probably could be keeping the restrooms cleaner.
Amanda My life story
Horseneck beach has been our Family beach Since I was child, Now 34yrs I've continued the honor of bringing are 3 year old Son to Horseneck since he was a Newborn! It's a Very Relaxing time friendly Staff with Recue and Police present at all times!
Sheila Hempfer
Nothing beats a nice day at the beach and here I always feel like I have a good day though the seagulls are beginning to get more aggressive lately I noticed they do allow people to bring boogie boards and stuff now which they didn't in the past so that's a nice change
Oz diCampanetti
Beautiful soft sand and a rocky shoreline
Hope Betterman
Attentive lifeguards, nice waves. Disgusting bathrooms - toilet paper all over, pit toilets, and they did not appear to ever be cleaned. There also were lots of weeds and some rocks, but thats expected in New England oceans. Overall besides the bathrooms i really enjoyed this beach.
Derek Rose
Great beach for waves and people watching. Clean with bathrooms and showers. Wear water shoes because it's rocky in spots. Make sure all of your bags have zippers because the seagulls are awful. They'll pull everything apart and destroy your stuff looking for food the minute you walk away. Free parking for those with handi-cap plates & placards.
Brandy Capistran
Andrew is the BEST! My family stayed there in July. The night when the Cape had some tornadoes, we had hard rain that night. Woke up to site flooded really bad. I went to the camp office to see what we should do, and Andrew was so understanding and very helpful. 5 stars to Andrew!! Thank you, again. Hope to see you in July!
Joseph Murphy
Plenty of beach to go around. Ample parking. Water warm as most south facing beaches are. Did not go into the restrooms but loved the foot washing stations outside. Minus a star for not allowing boogie boards.
Sandra Mendonca
Beautiful beach camping. Great biking and walking trails. Sunsets are the best!
Dina Kantelis
Love this beach. Warm water and plenty of wave action. 2 bath houses. There are rocks on the beach so be prepared.
Ann Ellison
I do love this place. I rarely can use this beach as I am priced out of beaching in Westport. I live just over the line in RI, am a senior citizen and cannot afford $20 a day ($160. per season)to visit the beach. There is not a discount for non MA seniors nor reciprosity between these intertwined states. I spend every summer weekend in Westport but do not own property so that the Town Beach is not available.
Ken Marshall
A worthwhile stop on our drive between Newport and New Bedford.
David Sampson
Horseneck Beach Campground is a beautiful site right on the beach. Book early in the year to get an oceanfront site. But... if you’re looking for a quiet retreat, this is not for you! There appears to be no regulation of generators. Many people had job site generators that should never be allowed in a Campground!
Jim Brousseau
Walk or sit year round. Sea, sand, dunes, islands, sea birds, boats, sun, Warm Water, clean beach, life guards, showers, bathrooms, plenty of parking, etc.
Great escape especially during pandemic. Bring your family or girlfriend.
kyle cormier
Gooseberry Island in Westport Ma is a great place to walk around and explore at a leisurely pace. You can walk down a trail that cuts through the center of the island and goes from the parking area directly to the two WWII observation towers or you can walk around the entire island. While there are no paths around the perimeter of island, the east side of the island is more sandy while the west side of the island which gets more ocean activity has a lot of rock ranging in size from 1-6 inches but almost all of them are rounded, smooth, and easy to walk on.
You will find a variety of animals and plants depending on the season you come. It is also a great place to just sit and listen to the ocean or watch the sun go down.
Crystal Dias
I so live it over there!! It's so peaceful. The waves crashing the sounds of the bird's. When ever I need some alone time to think this is my spot.. amazingly there is not a bunch of trash it's rather clean. It's definitely a good spot to bring the family.
Michelle
Very pretty and great ocean views, just not too much to do in the area. But great for pictures and seeing the Atlantic.
Hannah Rosen
Great swim! Lots of waves!
keyra crawford
Beautiful cove, lots of rocks so definitely bring some water shoes or sandals so your feet don't get all torn up. Lots of shells and great waves.
Shauna Vierling
Beautiful beach! If it weren't for the small rocks in the water, I would have given it 5 stars. I guess the rocks aren't everywhere and you can get past them but I didn't know this at the time and it hurt my feet too much to try to see
William Ozzy Molloy
I love finding spontaneous Beach art. Truly a fun place to visit.
Dmitry Kan
Large beach, well equipped facilities, consession stand. $13 parking. The only thing I don't like is about 10 feet wide strip of gravel you have to walk through before reaching the water.
Donna Berube
Actually there are areas roped off now for the piping plovers that you can't access (to
relieve the earlier commenter) the beach is kind of rocky in places but if you stay at the campground you can go to Horsencek Beach with a free day pass provided. That beach is less rocky, but probably more people depending on the day you come.
Either place is a good deal.
Dale
Very pleasant walk and scenery during the winter months, a lot more peaceful this time of year for a nice walk or some exercise.
J J Beau
The water warms up and becomes crystal clear at the end of the season The rip currents and undertow can get dangerous sometimes. Never swim here alone or intoxicated.
Robert Slack
Very pleasant area!
nash fredette
A little rocky today and a ton of Red tide, but this place is one of the nicer beaches in the area, good temp waters and great waves!
Tess Rondeau
Gorgeous late summer day of wave and bird watching. This is a rocky, natural beach that also happens to have a flat top trail for wheel chair accessibility.
Caroline Rodriguez
They changed the entrance fee for non mass residents from 25$ to 40$ in a yr and the sand is full of rocks big rocks ... use to be my favorite beach :(
Kerry Montplaisir
A lovely beach . The only problem was the lack of trash barrels. People just left there trash. Seagulls taking food right out of people's hands. Scary! Why can't they put trash barrels with lids on them so the seagulls can't get into the trash. Why isn't it raked with machines every morning? Dissapointed! Been going there since the 70s.
Daniel
Great spot in the summer if you can find a place to park. Beautiful beaches. Good times and lots of sea 🐚! …
David S. Channin MD
The actual "Horseback State Beach Park" is RIDICULOUSLY expensive ($40 per day) for non MA residents. Continue to the end of the road and enjoy free local beaches.
Megan Jackson
The water was so warm in July, it was sandy once you get past the rocks, and the waves were a lot of fun!
Peter Robinson
Nice clean beach. Great waves. We usually go in the afternoon when most people have left and it's very peaceful.
DNA A
Nice clean beach for families. Far too many rocks and pebbles near the edge but makes up for that by being empty and accessible
Lori Medeiros
Couldn't swim due to manowar jellyfish or tide??
Brian Pietro
Horseneck is my go to beach. Always except for sharks⁶ portions
Ryan Walsh
Great place to spend the day. The beach was a little rocky and crowded but overall a great place to relax
Joe Iadevaia
Great for a walk on the beach or exploring with kids
Clarence A
Nice beach without being over crowded. Beautiful sand dunes. Lots of sea shells to collect. Will definitely be back again next year 👍 …
Paul Thynne
Lovely beach parking lot is small but so worth a visit
Danielle Pilette
Clean, gorgeous, stunning.
Jim McDonald
Beautiful beach. Wonderful scenery
Curtis Salata-Hartman
Beautiful beach, sand and rocks nice dunes as well. Camping right on the ocean. A lot of interesting shells on the beach especially whelk and sponge as well. A lot of bird life in the winter worth it for birders
Rafael Polidoro (polidorobio)
very expensive parking, I imagine the entire structure is paid with the parking money, so not bad. I enjoyed it a lot. I'd still rather go to a local beach in Cape Cod (if you find one with parking), but def worth the day!
Krystal
Always a good time. Clean beach. Water wasn't all seaweedy. Prices have gone up if you're out of state just be aware. Was $20 for the day. And they don't give you a bag for any garbage so must bring your own
Matthew Simoneau
This is one of the most beautiful places in Massachusetts. It can be a little crowded in the summer, but there's lots of sandy beach to go around. There's also a great campground with spots right next to the beach.
Lori Berube
Decent location, not far from the ocean, not close to anything, beautiful on a nice day. Restrooms have showers, area to wash dishes and little playground for kids, pet friendly, reception is horrible in this area, reserve as early as possible to get best spot.
Mike King
Nice campground. New layout after renovation makes it easier to back in.
Sheila Silva
We used to LOVE camping here, until they put a power hungry millennial ( initials A.J.) in charge in the booth. We will not go back unless, or until he is removed. Many, many campers have voiced complaints about this individual ruining their camping experiences. It's so sad becausewe truly loved going here very often all summer long. We only went once. ( The first week in June), and went to many other places insead of Horseneck solely to avoid this rude, arrogant individual!
jennie joyce
Nice beach quite a few rocks but the sand is soft where there arent any rocks.
Kathryn Ford
Beautiful! Perfect for a springtime walk but be prepared for cooler temps and wind. Very close to wonderful hiking trails at Allen's Pond.
Maddy Shiel
Very nice state beach. Have to pay to park during summer months. Absolutely no alcohol allowed and they are very strict on this, they have cops patrolling around the sand.
Jon Holland
The views are great along the ocean sites. There's nothing really between most of the sites. This place NOT alcohol friendly. The pigs roll threw with their noses in the air sniffing for the booze.
Geoff Sutcliffe
Probably nice not midwinter with rain 😛 …
Donna Gagne
Get a season pass if you can!
Eva Gregg
This was my first experience seeing the ocean in person, and experiencing the grandeur of it! This was the best part of my trip to Massachusetts!
Ana Magano
Beautiful and accessible beach.
Connie Allie
Clean and every site is paved, just a few steps to the beach
Bennu2u
Beautiful clean beach. Plan on getting a parking pass if you go often.
Christie Lebrun
So much seaweed in the water!!! But I love the beach itself! Super nice, real sand compared to the other rocky beaches I've been to in Massachusetts.
Hitesh.P Kumar
It is one of the best beach to go during summer, if you are in South Coast area.
Kevin “Brownbear” Brown
It was great beach day
Carter Neville
Well spaced sites, beautiful views
Yuriy Ivanov
Rocky, will get red tide often, closes too early, and day pass is expensive; however, it's a big beach with great ocean exposure and the sky around sunset is truly gorgeous.
Aubrey Vaughn
So many rocks!!!! & Beautiful shells, $13 parking .Water was refreshing. People wore masks in common areas. Over all relaxing day.
Karyl Astudillo
Clean facilities, handicap accessible, outside shower to rinse, boardwalks added for easier access to beach,
Generally warm water but often undertow and riptides. Lifeguards on duty I believe 9am-5pm.
Kurt Hensel
Really nice state Beach with free showers. Not many places to buy anything around here so pack a cooler. It's pay to park but I used my annual state park parking pass to park free.
Danielle Richards
Not a bad experience but there is no alchohol signs posted everywhere and my kids where digging up glass beer bottles in the sand. One of them was broken too. Had to move spots.
John Wilder
Not crowded, water is nice, cool and clean. Beach is OK. Parking is free and available, especially if you get there early. Dogs are allowed on leash.
Melvina Lobo
Beautiful beach with big waves ,has plenty of parking, restroom outdoor showing and changing room
NHGirlathrt 14
1st time here. Love, love, love it. Well be back for sure
Vyju Iyengar
Beautiful beach. The GPS takes you to wrong place but it isn't far away from where you actually end up. We went on a stormy evening and yet it was perfect.
Brian Wood
I've never been to this beach when it's really beach season. I really like the facilities they have and it seems very clean and they have plenty of parking . If you enjoy the beach, this one is definitely worth checking out.
andrew couto
Love this place. Bring me back to the good old days.
Mattison Narramore
Great Massachusetts December beach day
Amir Ma
Good! But looks like people ruin the peace by smoking all the time.
Daniel DeOliveira
Very sea-weedy and very rocky, used to be much nicer with very minimal seaweed and no rocks, but still a nice outing
Jerry Paul
Great fishing spot. Nice area to relax!
Jason Wells
Beautiful and clean beach.
Gary Slaughter
Great campground. Great facilities. Fellow campers were friendly. The check in process was a bit tedious and seemed disorganized. Getting wood for the fire pits/grills was fairly easy.
Sarah Gustafson
Beautiful spot to swim and take pictures.
Exploring with Andrew
It's very beautiful here and has clean beaches.. Lot of rocks so bring water shoes .A great place to go and watch the fireworks on 4th of July..
Edward Demedeiros
Nice redo! New electric. New paving! Nice ocean breezes.
Narissa Gonsalves
Theres now a parking pass machine so you dont have to come in contact with a person. The beach started to get packed but for the most part everyone was distancing from other families.
Jonathan Zandberg
Nice beach, very rocky hard to get into the water without water shoes. Also long walk from the parking lot until you get got the beach.
R H
A wonderful location. The sand could use some cleaning. Make sure you hold your breath near the restrooms, its disgusting. Not all the showers work.
O'neal Tucker
Relaxing and peaceful place not over crowded like the commercial beaches
Sheila Quick
This beach is very rocky, but we love to go in the summer. If people weren't allowed to smoke on the beach I'd give it 5 stars.
Stephen Busa
Warm water robust consistent surf and smooth sand also rich therapeutic ocean breeze.
Kristine Caton
Great Beach but bring your sandals or water socks....very rocky before you get down to the water!
Tiffany Rawlings
Beautiful beach. But if your not from around that area, you have to pay for parking. Other than that, an awesome time
Edward Gallagher
Very nice place. Took my daughter there for her first trip to the water/ocean. Can't wait to take my son in a few years
Brandon Hart
Nice beach, but pretty rocky in the water. Best protective shoes. Parking is $20, which while not unusual, is a bit expensive.
Cynthia Manganello
Most beautiful beach in Massachusetts. The water is actually warm and it has two pretty good bath houses and a snack bar. $13.00 to park for the day.
george howard
Have been 4 consecutive years. This place never disappoints. It is well organized and a great way to spend a few hours with the family. Make sure that you picnic on the grounds.
harry Pavluk
Great place, scenery is outstanding.
Lisa Dare
Gorgeous, wild looking beach but expensive. They doubled the $20 out-of-state parking fee for the pandemic, so we paid $40 to park.
Grind Mode Cypher
Good beach to bring the kids
Erika Nestler
Wonderful Beach experience not overly crowded easy access really like the extra paved path to get further down the beach. Wheelchair access nice touch
Dante h
Good waves, moderate crowds, and decent sand. Make sure to arrive early as for whatever reason I find there is significantly less seaweed in the morning.
fran kelly
Awesome ocean facing beach with lots of parking. You must pay to park.
morgan rainey-rebello
Its nice, but you have to pay to park and currently they aren't accepting cash. Its a nuce beach overall but can cost a pretty penny.
Bill Callahan
Very popular beach. Plenty of families. Expect lots of crowds at peak season, days and time.
DGLM
We happened to have gone on a pretty busy day, and the beach is separated into plot- like enclosures. A lot of the coast is rocky (as expected)- so being good shoes!
Travis “Travisaurus” Wolszon
Its kept clean and the way the scheduling system works i feel that the people who dont plan very well for life cant get any lots. So there is always a good atmosphere of people respecting one another.
Cheryl Mann
Although there was limited parking we stopped in late afternoon to just put out feet in the water. No issues very quite. Debit card only.
Mad4sax
Awesome family vacation place.
Kelly Medeiros
Too many rocks no sand. Massachusetts DOSEN'T take of their beaches. But Rhode island gives breaks on prices also last week they didn't change wouldn't that be nice
Carlos Odria
My family and I love this beach. Perfect to spend the summer days...there is plenty of parking spots and there are also restrooms available.
Vanessa Snyder
Beach was beautiful and I'm from New York State never seen the ocean before and it's absolutely gorgeous I would recommend this to anybody
Wade Gotham
Very easily accessible for handicapped people with wheelchairs and walkers due to the fact of the rolling mat that goes from the wooden walkway at the edge of the beach to at least halfway to the water on the sand.
Sandra yerge Yergeau
The waves are big, for this area! Life guards, watch intentionally! Has an undertow! Just have to know how to protect yourself! Great on a hot day! Windy! Not good for little children!
Ann Burkhardt
Great Sandy saltwater Massachusetts state beach. Has wheelchair accessible facilities and water chairs that are available so that those who can't walk can actually get into the water!
Maiuca
When I went during the end of July the beach was full of seaweed and rocks everywhere. I would recommend going to a different beach but it's an ok beach.
