Reviews of Wompatuck State Park
Jean Bradley
Great place I’m so excited about this entrance on the Norwell side. A little rocky driving in hoping they pave it. Great spot to stop and explore. Saw a few bullfrogs jumping around in the water. My Dog loved exploring. Make sure whatever you bring in you carry out. I love Wompatuck and so happy that this entrance is closer to me.
michele lapham
The staff are what made this campground really wonderful. They're a great resource for places to go and things to do. This is a great place to bring a bicycle as there are many places to ride even just around the campground. As always camping depends on who your neighbors are.
Lisa Rush
Loved it as a campground! Big sites and lots of space and trees between each site. Very private.
No water or sewer at the sites but community faucets and a dump station. The Rangers really should re- examine the dimensions of all the RV sites - the website shows only 5 that are big enough to hold a 40 foot RV but I walked all over and there are a LOT that are large enough!
Not much to do besides hiking. Nowhere to swim. Supposedly fishing in the reservoir but you need to hike to get to it. Lots of fireflies!
Robert Besserer
If you like looking at deer and riding you bicycle this is the ultimate campground for you! 20/30/50 Amp on sites, shaded forest setting 40 miles of trails
Andre Kurlovs
Honestly, there isn't anything special about "Wompy" from the perspective of natural beauty -- it's a pretty average piece of typical Eastern Mass oak-dominated woods, mostly flat, no vistas.
What makes this place stand apart is the paved bike roads and the ability to get there on the commuter rail. The paved roads could use some maintenance, but I'm just grateful that they exist, making this park a decent (albeit a bit bumpy) place to ride even for those with road bikes. It's also right next to the Cohasset commuter rail station so you can bring your bike on the train if you so desire. I have done that a couple of times and spent a few hours riding around and exploring the park.
Samuel Santiago
This park is well maintained and it has a peaceful atmosphere. It was a true stress reliever.
Sooner Rosario
Very nice park but seasonal so be mindful of dates when booking. Showers took a really long time to heat up. (I gave up after some time as the weather was cold and wet outside as well.) Nice size sites. We use a 10x20 tent and was able to pick our own site which was great given we have 6 children that frequent the comfort stations. Beautiful shaded area and lots of hiking trails we did not get to take advantage of due to weather. Easy access into the park and onto the interstate to get to major landmarks. We would come back again, but with better weather hopefully, 😏

This place has an amazing amount of trails going through lovely forest, wetlands, and lake terrains. Most of the trails are paved which makes for easier biking and uncomplicated walking. Would definitely recommend! Good for all ages and occasions, as you can walk for as long or short as you like and the network of trails are very well marked.
JK Gardner
Nice park and good sized sites. Only 4 stars because our site has a hiking/walking trail going right through it. Only electrical at site, you need to fill with water prior and dump going out.
Garrett Burke
Love it here. MILES of paved walking trails and the old rail yard/graffiti juxtaposition with the grandeur of the forest reclaiming it is just awesome
Rivka Armel
Great campground all around- clean and private for the most part. Bathrooms could use some improvements and also some of the roads in the campground are uneven. But for a state park campground- we had a really good experience. Nice, quiet and relaxing
Bob Clark
Lots of trails! We’ll taken care of. Clean restrooms! Lots to see and do there! Our first visit we hiked, had a picnic overlooking the reservoir and then cooked some sautéed portabellas at the picnic area. All for no entry fee?? This place is a gem! The one downside is getting to/from there. Traffic was miserable which we are not used to. But I’d go again in a flash!
Caitlyn Meeks
Beautiful park, friendly Ranger staff. RV sites lack sewage and water but there is a dump station and water faucets which you can use to fill up your tank. The bathhouse facilities have showers which alas do not really stay hot, and have those industrial grade heads which are abrasive, there's nice dishwashing stations as well. It's very conveniently located and not terribly far from Boston, maybe a half hour drive. If you stay there I highly recommend going to Sugoi sushi in Braintree. Hard to believe this beautiful rustic charming state park is in the middle of Boston's exurbia.
Michael C.
An amazingly diverse recreational state park. It's a fantastic place for hiking, biking, camping, picnics, kayaking, etc. Wompatuck is a wonderfully tranquil spot to spend a day, either by yourself, with a friend, or with the family. There are tons of hidden gems to this park only the frequent adventurer can find. A highly recommended place to visit if you have the opportunity.
Rohit Shah
Great park with lot of options to hike, trail run and bike. Trails are well marked. Gentle rolling hills. Track for bike ride for kids and family. Great views of lakes from some trails. Lot of different kinds birds to see early morning around the lake. Deers and turkeys can be spotted in early morning hours. Certain parts of the park are open to hunting of the deers and turkeys during hunting season. Plenty of parking available.
Paul Flaherty
Love this park for biking. I ride the paved trails. Just enough hills. Clean. People are nice, going about their own business. I ll be back.
Diane Kaminski
Camped here about ten years ago, passing through the area again didn't hesitate to stop again. What a huge surprise to find a whole new campground. Plenty of walking trails and competition off road bicycle track/trails. Shower stalls were small fiberglass units where at 5'2" I could not raise my arm up straight above my head. Stalls needed shower curtains cuz water sprays out into your dry dressing area. Bathrooms were very clean. Park is like a 3 mile bike ride to Ferry that can take you right to downtown Boston waterfront.
Matthew Hall
I hadn’t expected to find any camping so close to Boston, much less an absolute gem like this! The park is beautiful, and I wish we’d had more time to explore everything.
The sites are spread apart enough for some privacy, and generally large enough, unless you have a very large tent.
The bathrooms could use renovation; many of the tiles are cracked and missing pieces, particularly in the showers. But everything works, which is the key thing.
Water was easily available.
The highlight of our stay was waking up at 2am to hear the hoots of a barred owl. We crept out of the tent, and managed to get a glimpse of it as it glided off into the forest. A moment my kids will never forget!
Sam Archer
This place is great for biking! A well maintained mix of paved and dirt trails. Nice campsites, too. I'm looking forward to going back and exploring more.
Susan Marie Lee
Camped here with our RV trailer. This is a quiet park. Nice! First spot C7 was steep and we had to move to arother, but the next site D1 was great. Called Reserve America customer Service for help. Rangers not always around.
Amber
Dcr staff are great! Def an improvement from a few years ago. They keep they sites safe too! Only downside is when other campers don’t follow the quiet hour rules or creep onto your campsite at 3am.
Charles Roth
Spacious campsites, clean bathrooms, mostly hot showers (depending on how many campers there are draining the hot water tank). We didn't see a playground but there were tetherball courts next to the bathrooms. Wood is a bit over priced at $7 a bundle, and no ice at the campground office. Stayed at an electric site which had a nice hook ups for 20, 30 and 50V, a night light and hook to hang your power cable. Lots of trails for hiking, biking and walking. It is a former military base so a lot of paved trails, abandoned railways and sites to see. The abandoned rocket test site was interesting, but covered in colorful graffiti, which can be used to teach your children some new vocabulary words.
Kristy Johnson
Beautiful, peaceful, accommodated my unique needs with a smile. THANK YOU!!!!
Also, the beach is only 10 min away (and there are a ton of cute cafes for breakfast).
I’ve felt very safe and respected whenever camping at MA state parks (Myles Standish is also gorgeous, though no cell phone reception there, and I’ve always had reception in Hingham).
Hats off to our park service members!!!!
KR M (KRM)
Sites a large with plenty of privacy. QUIET! Remote. Anticipate a long drive - especially from Boston, an hour or more with bad traffic. The trees aren't cut back when entering the campground so we found ourselves dodging branches in our motorhome and barely moving to lessen tree damage by hanging branches.
Arun Rohila
Lots of trails and places to hiking and see fal colors and enjoy nature.
Billy Taylor
I go here at least 3 times a week for mountain biking. Never ending trails with a lot of parking.
Sue Brooks
Large wooded sites
20 amp electric in one campground the other is lots of tents no electricity. 2 showers in the woman's side. Campsites about 100 feet + thickly wooded. I had 15 M against the woods.
Kenston Wolfblood
Amazing spot to camp, walk, run, bike, fill up on spring water, or just enjoy a gorgeous spot for picnic and such! Beautifully maintained and well managed! A gem!
Terry Woodward
This is a great spacious State Park with large treed camping lots that have a feel of privacy. Park also has nice walking/biking paths accessible from the campground loops. Clean and well maintained. Most of the sites are electric only or it would receive five stars.
kimberly paula
For someone who is an avid camper this location is absolutely the best ever. The staff is amazing the location is so easy to get in and out of. The campsites are clean and spacious the bathrooms have the most amazing hot water showers ever. Not to mention the fishing is pretty good my daughter caught a great size catfish
robv
Really good place for walking, hiking, bike riding. Varied terrian. Something for everyone. Largest public undeveloped land on the south shore. Be sure to get a map so you don't get lost 😸. Available at ranger station and kiosks on trail system. …
Carole Bernhardt
I am new to camping and state parks. Restrooms we're clean. Sites were well marked and the map was easy to read. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Sites are very close together. Great if you want to go with a group since sites are limited to 4 ppl per site. It's like you are actually all together. Can be awkward when you don't know the other ppl.
Fire ring could have used some work. The stones were small and loose. I didn't get the sturdy feel I expect from a fire ring in a forest.
We were here at the beginning of the season. If there were water sports or swimming options we didn't see them. The only open space to play was next to the restroom. People were friendly and my son had no trouble finding kids to play with.
David Kim
Hidden gem. So good I would rather keep it to myself than leave a review. Check online for a park map for the best time here. Camping here is phenomenal as well! Quite and clean. Better maintained than most private camp sites. Kudos to the rangers and campsite employees!
Shawn Jin
Beautiful wooded paved, unpaved paths, keeping everyone cool from the blistering sun. A great place for people with varying degrees of affinity to nature.
Backpackerwdogs 1
Very nice State Park. 50 amp service, NO water or sewer hookup. The sites are shaded with a lot of privicey. The park has a lot of trails and free kayak trips on weekend.
Darleen Lannon Coldwell Banker
One of my Top 10 places to walk in Hingham. I love the Leavitt St entrance. Fantastic place to take your dog for a walk, go for a bike ride or just meander along the numerous trails. A true gem in Hingham!
Shilohs Father
Very nice Campground. Bathrooms are very clean. I wasnt happy about not having a water hookup on the site but once I was here that changed. There are water stations set up within a site or two and a great dish washing station at every bathroom. I had a few water jugs that I kept filling and everything was great. We never missed having it on the site directly. No outside wood is allowed but the price for wood is cheaper here than other campgrounds and was very reasonable. 15$ a day was plenty. The sites are big and the neighbors are far. Every site has trees and brush between the next. The event calendar included historical tours about WWII and the history of the wars fought right here in this very park and tell the story of the people that lived here at that time. I didn't explore the hiking trails but that seemed to be what most of the people here were doing during the day so I will be sure to try that out next time. We will be back soon.
Jennifer Garcia
We LOVED it here!! What a find...beautiful trees, fabulous bike trails, nice, large rv sites! Wonderful!!
Elizabeth L.
So peaceful & quiet! Great place to stay while visiting the Boston area!! Ferry rides across the bay available at nearby Hingham.
Eduardo Mace
One of the bigger and better State parks in Massachusetts. Great for hikes, plenty of natural scenery.
Douglas Silva
I camped at This site for the 4th celebration, my family and I had an absolutely amazing time!!! The camp was nice and neat but mostly the friendlessness of the staff was astounding, there were two rangers in specific who made our experience even better, my kids loved them. The Rangers demonstrated a lot of affection towards my kids, big shout out to Ranger Bergen and Ranger Bruce!!! We will definitely go back camping there.
Pam On the Beautiful Lake Michigan Shore
Really pretty park with a lot of options including cycling, hiking and running.
Bren L Ehnot
Nice busy park. Deer. Turkey. Quiet. Would be great place if they had sewer @ some of sites. Need to clean out the poison ivy in the sites. Need T to get some bleach & clean the showers.
Gabriel McHugh
Loved the trails through the woods. Convenient parking and clean facilities.
G. Matt Glass II
Very nice park for camping. Great places to bike ride and trail walk. Nice (smaller) playground for the kids. Campsites are shaded and well spread apart.
Becca McClure
Tent campers here. We loved the park. Its huge! Secluded and very shady. The bathrooms were really clean and well kept. The park rangers were really nice and helpful. We had a very long vacation that went over 13 states and this was one of the nicest we stayed at. It was close to a train depot so we could go to the city. Loved it!
Basket Case
Loved this campground. They could pay better attention to the cleanliness of the bathhouses, but otherwise we have thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay here in our 39 foot Class A diesel pusher.
Paul L
Lots and lots of trails to walk, also campsites and some bike paths. The visitor center also has some historical items on display.
Matthew Ince
Former military depot turned state park. Camped once recently and had a great experience. REI holds some outdoor classes here on occasion - I took Intro to Mountain Biking and Wilderness Survival: The Ten Essentials while camping.
Vanessa
Always a great time to take a hike. Paved paths & wooded paths. Good for biking, rollerblading, or site seeing. Lots of parking and different entrances. Fun to see wildlife. We love walking here.
Mary Donoghue
Beautiful woodsy park with awesome trails and nice sites. Some sites are not very level and all have only electric but there are many spots for water and there is a dump station.
Stephanie Roine
This is wonderful place to get outdoors, go for a hike or bike ride, or to teach your little to ride a bike. So many trails, both paved and dirt.
Sandra Asberry
beautiful and peaceful perfect place to get away from the city. However, the water was disturbingly dark and brown.
Sairam M.
Great trails, enjoyed mountain biking.
Chris Nee
Campsites are decently spaced apart and vary in size to only able to fit a small SUV and small tent, to a being able to fit two vehicles, two tents, and a canopy. You won't know until you get there and have already reserved it unfortunately. Sites are not maintained well, and fire pits were full of the last occupants burned wood, trash, and ashes. Bathrooms were only cleaned once a day and hardly that clean. Showers were disgusting. Full of rust, mold and mildew. I'd rather have cleansed in the dirty pond water ten minutes away. And not all the bathrooms are even open. Note, that I was on the nonelectrical side. I will say that if you don't mind cleansing with sani-wipes or bird bathing you'll be okay. And it was really quiet and peaceful, with miles of trails for biking or hiking from the campgrounds, as well as all around it.
Varvara Mokrushina
Campsites are spread apart and have a lot of dry wood to keep the fire going. All fair game just don't break down living vegetations. FYI you cannot swim in the lakes.
Robert Tasillo
Great network of trails to walk or bike. Well marked and easy to use app to know your exact location.
Wesley Dickhaut
A favorite spot to explore the beautiful forests of the South Shore with furry friends in all seasons ☀️🌳🐕❄️ …
Ride_of _a_life
Great staff, very welcoming. Nice clean park, lots to do! Campground is wired with all new electrical and lighted pedistals. Makes parking your rig at night(I know, get there earlier) easier!
Samantha
Beautiful wooded park with lots of trails!
Julie Mae
There are so many trails/ places to explore. The staff are friendly and helpful. The sites are a good size and not to close together.
Darin Johnston
This one is tough to write because I wanted this place to be magnificent! It was the home base for our time in Boston and Plymouth. However, we'll divide it between the good and bad again
The good: This park is like an oasis in the midst of the concrete jungle. Campsites are large and well taken care of. There are hiking/biking trails (which we sadly did not have the time to check out). It was a 15 minute drive to both the train to Boston and the ferry as well. Wood is available ($7 a bundle). Just a gorgeous place to camp.
The bad: Two things take this rating down. First, run down, dirty bathrooms. Now, it's not the park service's job to keep bathrooms clean, 24/7. I get that. However, there were multiple issues with things being clean and basic supplies being kept up.
The second thing, cost. If I am a MA resident, I'm paying $22 for a campsite. As an Iowan, I paid $60 ($55 for the campsite and $5 for electricity). If I'm paying that much, and other out of state residents are doing the same, why is the bathroom look so run down?? We found this true in all MA state parks, rates were almost triple for those out of state residents.
So, beautiful park, great location for travel, run down bathrooms, and a ridiculous price to camp. That about sums it up!
Ben Pfeiffer
We stayed here for three nights in the middle of our road trip, and stayed in a back-in standard electric rv/camper site. There was a drinking water spigot fairly close to our site so it was easy to fill up our freshwater tank when needed. There was also bathroom and showers pretty close by to our site which were quite clean and well kept. Overall we had a great time staying at this campground! It was a little over an hour when we drove to visit Salem, MA, and about 40 minutes when we drove in to visit some parts of Boston, MA. Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to take advantage of any of the hiking or biking at Wompatuck, but would love to come back and stay again one day!
Matt Griffiths
26m of great mtn bike trails!
Chris McKerrow
Lots of trails for walking. Some well marked and some not. Definitely bring your phone so you can download maps. As a walker, be prepared to share trails with bikers. As a biker, be prepared to share trails with walkers and dogs!
Rick Garofalo
Easy In, Easy out, Clean and simple.
Great biking trails, fishing at the reservoir, abundant wild life. Deer, Raccoon, Possum & birds...
John Daniels
Great campground. Wide enough paths to easily pull campers through. Our site was huge with plenty of parking space
Steve Benbow
Want a quiet place to camp? This is the place!
Heard one dog bark once in the 4 days we were there.
Some of the rest rooms bath areas were lacking in current maintenance. Clean but looked under funded, maybe just a sign of the times?
Dileepa Wijayanayake
One of my favorite places to walk, bike, kayak
Phyllis D
The park is gorgeous, with lots of wildlife to be seen. The entrance to the campground has a sign "stop and register" when it should say "park to the right to register". The employees seem bothered by guests and are not helpful. The sites don't seem to be regularly cleaned. There is no drainage design at many sites, so big muddy patches.
Karen Johnson
Love camping here!! Great trails to run your dogs and nice campsites. Staff is awesome!!! My site didn’t have a fire pit but i got satellite so I was bummed to move for a fire. One of the host volunteers and student volunteers built one right up!! It was awesome. Great to be in the woods and enjoy the night sounds so close to so many great towns and cities.
Anshul Shirude
This was one of the best campsites I have ever been to. The staff was extremely polite and willing to take care of their guests. The bathrooms are very very well maintained. I felt no problem showering or going to the bathroom. Out of the 6+ campsites I have been too, this was the best one with good area, clean bathrooms, and a lot of shade in the 100 degree weather.
Vanessa Martin
The park was clean, beautiful, and peaceful. I plan to stay many times in the future. Definitely a great campground to stay at.
Abner Gerome
Serenity.. tranquillity... piece of mind... clean fresh air.... beautiful lake... astonishing and breathtaking camping sites... great place for the family pet 🐕🐶 to run....great biking trails... family fun all Around.. …
Tim Brown
Can't judge on the weather, or what we couldn't do because of the weather. We camped here for three nights over the Memorial Day weekend and it was a complete washout.
So here's the deal, Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer, so when I made reservations it was not surprising to find many of the sights booked. Upon arrival, we quickly noticed two things. First, it was decidedly not busy. Second, the campground did not seem "ready for prime time." Trees were overgrown, as were the paths. Bathrooms were clean-ish and there were signs of disrepair. Here's a tip, free of charge: thanks some of the ridiculous fees you charge out of state campers and invest in the bathrooms.
The relatively empty campground could very well be blamed on the atrocious weather, and from what I'd researched, it looks like Wompatuck's strength is it's trail system. I wish we had better weather and been able to partake, but we didn't and will probably not be back.
Catherine B
Amazing Place to camp, or just go for the day, or just take a walk or bike ride. One of the nicest State Parks around! Love this place!💛 …
Shirley Márquez Dúlcey
I was there to operate in ARRL Field Day, so my wishes might be slightly different from some!
The grounds are pleasantly wooded, complete with nice tall trees for hanging antennas. I was in the non-electric section by choice, as I was running a fully battery powered QRP station as I might in an emergency; that part of the campground is free of both acoustic noise (amplified music, etc) and electrical noise so it is excellent for radio reception. (I used headphones for the radio to preserve the quiet for others.) Each campsite has a picnic table, a fire pit, and a grill; you will have to buy wood from the park if you want to build a fire.
The bathrooms were well maintained by park standards. They also feature well equipped dishwashing stations. Drinking water is available so you won't have to haul that in.
If you are not there to do radio, the park has hiking and mountain bike trails and a lake for non-motorized boating. There is no swimming area, as the lake serves as a reservoir. This is Massachusetts, so no alcohol in state parks.
If you are looking for a place to spend some quiet time in the woods, with or without ham radio, Wompatuck fills the bill.
Kim M
Safe, scenic trails for walking and biking. Fun to visit year-round, though keep in mind the hours change on the off-season. Most of the trails here are paved and they are maintained regularly and cleared from fallen debris. Elevation varies depending on your location in the park. Ammenities are offered too, such a campsite, mountain bike course, and visitor center. All in all, a great place to see some foliage, get some exercise, or take in the view.
Francis Moran
Absolutely lovely. Great walk on multiple trails w/ all the New England beauty. Good parking. Must drive VERY slow. Lots of kids & dogs. Very helpful, friendly DCR Rangers. Say hi to Ranger Hill. Great guy.
James Terry
So far it seems to be a nice campground we are staying at the ones with electricity there is two shower/bathroom houses one has a fish cleaning station very friendly staff
Linda Revuelta
Wonderful park, quiet, relaxing and hot showers!
Carrie
Really nice park and location. Campground: Camping is on the expensive side for out-of-staters. Upgraded electrical service at camp sites. Bath houses were on the dirty side and could use better cleaning. Several clogged sinks. Had a dish washing station on the back of the bath house.
Guy Mann
Great for walking, hiking, biking, and camping. This is a large park with plenty of trails for all abilities.
amanda ellis
I have been coming here since discovering it about a year and a half ago.
I have come both as a person attending dog training walks as well as for leisure. Hikes through all the different trails and around all the streams are just magical.
The place has ample parking and is extremely quiet.
You won’t get bored of this place because there are so many trails to discover.
Only con: Beware of the mountain bikes that come flying around. They’re generally nice people but at pretty scary speeds.
Robin Cady
Wonderful State Park, camp sites, hiking and biking trails for all levels.
Wayne Fleischmann
The physical layout of this campground is superb. Excellent for bike riding, walking on the Long Island Sound sand beach, etc. However, notice there is always a "however" they limit their electric site for a reason even the park employees don't understand or agree with.
We called ahead (you can't make online rsvp after Sept 5,) and were told that electric sites were plentiful. When we arrived we wete told "none available". Took a non-electric site and then found out on my bike that there were 15 open electric sites, some of them host sites that were empty. When I asked why those were not available to campers, I was told "rules are rules". Really?
Ps. They are officially closing several days after we left, for the season, but were OPEN FOR BUSINESS when we wete there.
Lana Konstantinov-Gillis
Nice place to car camp. Close to home for a relaxing outdoor getaway. Went on a Sunday to Monday. My boyfriend and I felt like we were the only ones there. Super relaxing...just us a fire and some coyotes and owls off in the distance. Hiking trails are odd though as they are paved. Maybe we just haven't found the ones that are not....will be back soon.
Alton Taylor
This state park has changed so much since my last visit. Super clean, trails clear. Nice 3 hr visit.
Donna Howard
Add an amazing KYACK trip on the water at the Arron river and resovoir...
Beverly Rowlett
I stayed there last week and I loved it. There is hiking, biking, fishing, etc. We had a large campsite it was perfect. Lots of friendly people. The front office was great and helpful, and also the rangers. I will definitely be going back soon.
Alethea Wait
A true treasure close to home! We have been exploring Wompatuck for almost a year now and are still nowhere close to seeing it all. Trails for hiking, paths (paved and XC) fir biking, rocks to climb, picnic spots. Great for kids and great when escaping them!
Water Baby
Peaceful. Lots of trails for different challenges for hiking and biking. Great for off leash dog exploring. Get a map at the visitor center so you'll be able to find your way out. There are also camp grounds available.
Mister Ma55h0l3 617 (minotbeachbum22)
Great place to camp, could keep bathrooms a bit cleaner, and not let others reserve your site while you're still occupying it. Keep it to more hotel/motel rules, such as once your stay is up, if you want to extend your stay in the same site, you should be able to without a problem, but it's not bad.
The Real Princess Gwen
I was a little apprehensive about the park since there seemed to be quite a few camping sites available but it truly is a great place. Its clean, quiet with spacious sites and quite a bit of foliage in between. We've seen many trails and would love to come back in the future and hike them all. Staff is very friendly and accomodating.
Edit: Too many dogs here who bark the entire night long.
Hayan Nayr
Amazing place to go walking, biking, riding, fishing and camping. The campsites are very nice but there were some noisey neighbors that staYed out until 3 in the morning. The walking paths are very nice and we'll kept.
Kevin R Moore
Nice place to hike and bicycle. no swimming . Small camp ground state park.
Jim Colombo
We spent 2 nights in loop F during a heat wave a few weeks ago in our RV. The site was excellent, secluded given many of the neighboring sites were closed due to Covid-19. Wompatuck is a very large campground, but over half of the loops were also closed. There are many hiking trails and several ponds to hike around. There are many bike paths, but we unfortunately didn't have our bikes with us. Wompatuck is also fairly close to World's End, a Trustees of the Reservation owned hiking trail currently open to members only by appointment. All in all, we enjoyed our time despite the heat.
Brandice Schumacher
Beautiful stunning place to explore. Happy wildlife and grounds. Nice place to get out of the hustle and bustle of city life. Campground is very nice. Can't see your neighbors. Hook ups are nice for summer when it's hot and humid. Dump station is near the entrance.
Michael Roettger
Amazing paved and unpaved trails. Great family fun riding bikes through nature.
Laurie Bell
We love this park! There are plenty of trails for walking and biking. Bathrooms are in the welcome center and seem well kept up. About 2 miles into the park is Mt Blue Springs. We love stopping there to refill our water gallons when we are in the area!
Greecian Koukla
This is a great place to go hiking and biking. I've come here a bunch of times and always try a new trail. They have areas for picnicking with tables. Love it here! The trails by the water are really beautiful.
Kevin Glynn
Awesome collection of trails. Well marked and mapped with beautiful scenery.
There only qualm is all the folks that can't seem to pick up after their canine "family members." But it's not as bad as some other parks in the area.
Bring a bike or just go for a walk/hike. Also, visit the museum. Super nice park.
Sean Robinson
Free parking, good cycling paths both paved and unpaved
Laura La Rosa
Went camping with my boyfriend a week or two ago, and we loved it, only down fall was that when we got there we put our tent up, and not even 3 min after we got the tent up it started down pouring!! But thank God we got the tent up and we also managed to get a fire going thanks to my Boyfriend.
Thearon Helgeson
Wonderful place to go to get outside and still have plenty of space, even when there are lots of people around. There were a lot of different parking options and trails for walking and biking of every kind. We love this spot.
Mr. Jerel E. Ferguson
Love this place BUT, last night, (7/4) people were making a tremendous amount of noise at 2AM, way beyond quiet time. I don't think any rangers were around to ask the noisy campers to be quiet! Otherwise, this is one of my favorite spots to take the kids camping!
Caleb McKenney
Very cool place with tons of trails to explore. Unpaved trails tend to be short but it is still an enjoyable trip when traversing your own route. I would suggest taking a map from the visitor center and navigating the loop you want to take. Also there is a fresh water spring set up on tap that is worth checking out.
Antonina Parris-Yarbrough
This past weekend was my first camping experience, and my husband chose Wompatuck for us to try out. We had a fantastic time! The staff were really nice, and the bathroom/shower facilities were surprisingly clean. Each campsite had a grill and fire pit, which was great. There are beautiful trails for both biking and walking (some are really clearly marked, others are less clearly marked but still easy to follow) and a reservoir you can fish in. Nice and close to Boston, which makes it perfect for a quick weekend option. We will definitely be going back.
Christopher J B
My girlfriend and I are becoming avid hikers, But we also have a puppy Siberian husky and shes not quite ready for some really intense hiking. Wompatuck is a perfect medium of trails large and small. Paved roads, camp grounds, fresh water springs. Its massive and has been great every time we go. Also great for biking trails. Get a map because it is very large and somewhat confusing if you dont know where you are going.
Patricia Mello
We spent a beautiful afternoon at the park, riding our bikes on the trails. It was our first time ever at the park. We found many of the bike trails unmarked and difficult to follow by map. The trails go all over the place, and in different directions. Many walkers with their dogs off their leashes. All in all we did have a nice day.
KevJen Glynn
Love this place. Tons of trails for hiking, booking, dog walking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, you name it.
It's well maintained and supported, too, albeit, not very remote.
Also, there are lots of remnants of the past, from buildings to train tracks. Very interesting.
There is a lot of good programming, a nature reserve, and more.
Rich Andreoli
Easy location to get to and layout and terrain are accessable to most. Good back up option for when world's end is packed. Definitely worth the visit for a walk in the woods. Just a little close to roads for my search for solitude.
Shawn Mou
Lovely park and campground nestled in the suburbs of Boston. I stayed here for two nights on labor day weekend and it was quiet and peaceful. The bathrooms are clean and sites were far apart and densely wooded (the lack of light was a bit of a problem). There were plenty of places for kids to run and play and beautiful trails to walk along. Downtown Boston is just a short drive away (though traffic can be tough).
Cory Braman
I love this place! I rv camp. State park with electric hook ups at the sites! Beautiful scenery, nice and quite. I'm always sad to leave! The sites are a little small, but there is nice distance between camp sites with woods and bushes so your neighbors are not too close. Cant wait to be there again!
E F
It is breathtakingly beautiful, well maintained & conveniently located. Lots of people, wildlife & organized events for all. Great visitors center with lots of info & very clean restrooms! Fun year round destination, even if you only enjoy a delightful drive through on a snowy winters day & it is Free!!
Angelique Kneepkens
We love the mountain biking trails and pump track. The campground is very nice as well, well marked, bathrooms aren't bad, but we wish the campsites were larger, there was barely room for the two cars and the tent.
Jay MA
One of the best jogging, hiking and biking reservation I even been to. Public restroom is available at the visitor center. Weekend might be crowded so better go early.
Kimberlee Nehrboss
Restrooms are awful. Showers dont get warm and are nasty and not convenient. The grounds are all one way and may be confusing to a novice. They are kinda secluded which is nice and each has a nightlight thing and a picnic table and campfire. If you are an out of towner dont go bc they jack up the prices ridiculously at least during the pandemic. 67 dollars for one night at a 3 star state park. The person was very helpful and kind and knowledgeable. I wouldnt recommend it but you do you.
brad new
Amazing and difficult mtb trails. Quiet rec area for running, biking, hiking
Nick Nielsen
One of the best spots in New England for mountain biking. A great maze of trails, with plenty of different terrain to suit everyone except the purely gravity oriented. The only two problems will be a) finding the time to ride every trail and b) locating which trails best suit your skills.
Go, get lost, have fun!
Elad Sintov
Very large park with plenty of trails
ODoyle Rules
Great place to hike, walk dogs, play frisbee.
Rick M.
Great hiking trails. You can take a short hike or an all day hike through the trails and really explore.
aaronthewizard88
Love this campground. I have been 6 times. Reasonable rates. FYI its OK to take/scavenge for downed trees/firewood here as it cleans up the campground. Sites are cozy and clean upon arrival. I'm sure you will enjoy your stay. I will be going back to Wompatuck until I can camp no more.
Dylan Vaughn
Awesome place to walk your dog, and run and ride your bike.
W B
Has sites with or without electric. Miles of hiking and biking, both paved and forest.
BSD
Great biking trails with tree shade mostly, so you'll never get sunburned, also temperature slightly lower than outside of the park, so its great for summer bike ride
KC C
Pump track should be for warming up, but to let your toddler run loose??? I'm a dad myself and I was annoyed. Take your child to a flat area out of the way not a bike track. And parents, I understand you care about your child....but don't stand on the track and watch from the side instead so you are not blocking ppl who are riding. Trails were nice and quiet, wanted to give 5 stars.
Susan Walcott
Just beautiful park. Wonderful hikes. The well water is so nice and clear and cool. Great bike riding. Kids bike run area. Some great ponds. Highly recommend.
Dan D
Great place to relax or take a hike. It's a shame people don't take their dog poop bags out with them. I've noticed this at several parks in Massachusetts, people take the time to bag it then either toss the brightly colored bags on the trail or into the brush and trees. It's unsightly.
The spring water is a cool highlight.
Matt Dibb
Tons of trails of all types - paved for biking; trail trails for hiking; single track for trail running/biking. Lots of parking areas near trail heads. Natural spring for fresh water. Visitor's center with clean restrooms, function room, and drinking fountain. Plenty of camping areas with option for power/gas hookup.
Hyun Jun Kim
Nice place for camping with spacious camping spot. However we couldn't sleep due to campers next to us. They kept talking till 2am and even turned music on speaker. Management should enforce quiet time.
Mark Boxshus
I love to come up here and hike it's very therapeutic and it helped me last year, as I had my right knee replaced. This year my left knee needs to be replaced and I will be up here using this facility as my rehab playground, once again. There are numerous Trails up here to choose from and all kinds of exciting off of the path trails that lead to ponds lakes and other goodies. On a given day you never know what to expect up here as there are numerous people running cycling and or roaming through the woods, all involved in physical therapy of one sort of the other. I highly recommend this for anyone who needs to exercise on a daily basis and or, anyone who is recovering after major surgery.
Ronald Hewett
I went there for the first time a very good state park. When your in the park camping you feel like your in the woods of New Hampshire.
Noelle Baum
Very nice place, sites are long and thin. Bathrooms were clean the place is well looked after. $5 a bundle of wood. Loads of sites. You need the key to the gate to get to boat ramp, you get that from the campsite office. 10 min drive to nearest shop if you forgot something.
Derick Mahoney
Huge variety of trails, including paved roads, tech singletrack, and some good flowy bits mixed in. You can spend days in this park and still not see it all. Fishing is allowed with applicable fishing license and boat ramp access is available upon request. Campground and facilities are kept clean and well managed.
Tippin Harkins
It was nice to be close to the city but still out in nature. The campsite was nice with electric. The bathrooms were a little further and not as clean as other campgrounds we’ve stayed in.
Jodie Beksha Tinsley
Great Place to camp and there are electric sites available. Amazing Kayaking tours for FREE. The guy Pete who does the tours is fun and very knowledgeable about the area. Entire Staff is friendly and helpful. We will definately be back.
Nishant Kelkar
Went here for camping with family and friends. Throughly enjoyed it. It offers both Electric and Non Electric sites. Each site has a grill. Very clean and tidy. Restrooms very also cleaned regularly. Quite hours are well respected. No alcohol allowed. Outside wood not allowed, can buy from visitor centre. Lots of trail around. Very close to Hingham and Grocery store if you run out of anything.
LeRoy Christensen
Large camping areas, if you like space and little interaction with other campers, this is your stop. Stayed maximum time of two weeks. closest place to park my 38' motorhome to Boston south shore area.
Lyall Croft
Very peaceful and wonderful bike riding. I hope they open more extensively next year. Also the camp showers need a through cleaning in a regular basis.
Leigh McQueeney
A lovely State Park. Great staff. We are Australian and made a point of staying there twice.
dan deaton
Been going to either ride my bike or go for a nice hike for many years use to have old bunkers for military .. lots and lots and lots of bike and walking paths will recommend this place 100💯 also will return …
dragonneus
Love nature but want to walk paved roads, then this is the place for you! Beautiful Forrest with many maze like paved roads and off road trails too. There are also bunker ruins when this was a military installation.
Mark Taylor
Great place for short day hiking. Great trails well maintained easy to follow. Often see the Random moments of Nature. Deer, Fox , Fisher Cats, Owls. all doing there thing.
jennie joyce
Nice clean facilities and so much to explore!
William Thee
Nice park with a/c hookups for camping.
Friendly staff.
Clean restrooms, but handicapped shower seat in men's bathroom was broken and dangerous.
Meg Bollmann
I would have given it 5 stars if they had more RV sites with water & sewer. The bathrooms were clean. The staff was fantastic & the grounds were well maintained. The sites were private, dogs were on leashes, kids were having fun.
Gloria Dotson
Good base camp for exploring Cape Cod (about 2 hour drive) and Boston by ferry out of Hingham. Easy to get to, basic wooded sites, back-in. Electric 30 & 50 amp, water available but not on site. Dump station. Lots of bicyclists.
Quy Nguyen
This camp site is really nice but at night, sometime the squirrels will throw acorn onto ur tent and it sometime get annoying but it really nice and doesn't cost that expensive to go for camping.
Jordan Nay
A good place to go camping. Things were quiet and we enjoyed 2 nights there. The bathrooms were a bit dirty and weren't cleaned at all during our 2 night stay, but otherwise I would recommend this campground.
William Cole-French
I think this is a great place to run, walk, hike, bike, and just spend some good time outdoors. It has beautiful trails, some dirt, some gravel and some concrete. I really enjoy it and think it is a great place!
E O
I live in Hingham and have enjoyed this park for the past 40 years. There are miles and miles of mountain biking trails ranging from paved paths to moderately technical single track. You can ride a 25 mile loop without riding on any of the same trails. The park has recently received significant upgrades from DCR including fresh pavement the length of Union street, new parking lot by the Visitor Center, new accessible entryway into the Visitor Center, removal of all old munitions depots and bunkers, a bike / hike path all the way to JJ's in Cohasset from the Visitor Center, and a very involved Friends group which helps to build bridges, maintain trails, and sponsors other activity groups in the park. There is no public swimming but there is a large campground area. Great resource on the South Shore.
David Kraus
Great place to hike and jog, many trails. Only wish the motorbike guys would cruise elsewhere so others may enjoy the peace of nature.
Emanuella Silva
Love this place. Did you know you can get FREE spring water there? Very nice and clean water, no need to filter. There are two faucets available. Just take your gallons with you.
Yoke Ng
Great family camping site with safety; the place is friendly. There is fresh air and paved roads where you can bike, and the restrooms are satisfactory with cold and hot shower and no charge. We stayed three nights and visited many places that were not far from here, such as nantasket beach and Boston. ( 35 minutes to Boston.)There are a few stores close to the park too, like Walmart or stop and shop.
Diana A
A great almost free vacation for a spontaneous weekend or for a week. Lots of hiking, mountain and road biking and rollerblading for when you're not hanging out by the fire pit. Don't forget to donate when you make your reservation. State and National Parks desperately need your support.
Joy Boggs
Beautiful park! We stayed here because it is centrally located between the Cape and Boston. Planned to stay 2 nites, stayed 5! 👍☺Front gate people are friendly too. Ruth the guide for (free)kayaking, she was amazing! There are hosts here but sites aren't clearly marked. They are next to shower houses.
Ron and Joy Boggs

In terms of mountain biking this place is a mixed bag. There are good parts in wompatuck such as the jump area and the pump track at the visitor center. In addition there is a route I enjoy called the Landmine Cat 3 Loop (you can find it on the Trailforks app). But everywhere else is like I said a mixed bag. For example much of the northern part is just slow, un-flowey tech. Some of these trails simply feel like hiking trails as they extremely rocky and really not much fun to ride. I would recommend going here but only do the parts that I have recommend previously in this review.
Michael Hegarty
Great place to get shreddy with the boys 🚴♂️🚴♂️🚴♂️, fully boost down Rodeo, or launch into orbit at the jump line, plenty of quad burner trails as well for the inner dad in you. Steer clear of the local Lilly pond lurkers and Wampy is a little slice of heaven down on the South Shore …
Jessica
Very clean park. Rates are very affordable. Sone camping sites have electricity if you choose to rent those for an additional fee. 2 tents per site and have showers on site as well!
Zachary Geelhoed
Lots of shade from mature trees. Kept the wind down. Recommend bug spray for mosquitos Worst thing is ice is a good distance from the camping area. No senior discount if from out of state. Lots of bike trails and paths. 2 areas for camping. With and without electric.
Daniel Harris
An awesome state park with lots of trails fpr walking and biking. Our RV spot was not quite level, but good enuf. Very large campsites, 50A elec. No water no sewer on ours. BEWARE...our GPS tried to take us in from tje sputh, amd this gate is often locked. No place to turn around...a serious issue. A guy who lives just outside park at that gate knew someone with a key so we could get in. I would NOT have enjoyed turning around at that dead end
John Forr
Very nice state campground that we camp at in our Motorhome. Park has an excellent staff. The sites we use do not have sewer but they have a dump site.
Sharon Leone
Great place to go for long or short walks. Some paved & some trails. Only negative is that the trails aren't marked so it's easy to go in the wrong direction even with maps
Rory O'Neill
Great spot for hiking and exploring, check the park info though before you head out to avoid traffic and congestion due to local events. Great to bring dogs too just make sure to keep them on leash and bring some extta poo bags, getting lost is easy so use your satellite view in GMaps!
sean murphy
Excellent place to just wander.
Mike R
Went in the winter, it was spectacular. Parking was full by 10:30 in the main lots on a Sunday. We parked at a trail head. Very well marked trails and maps.
BF Fertig
Nice State Park with hiking and canoeing and camping spots. Perfect entrance to greater Boston for visitors using the Hingham ferry to downtown just 15 minutes drive from the State Park. Washrooms are 'State park style', new houses might be an idea for the next couple of years.
Chum MD
Beautiful country great for exercise or camping. Go on adventure and find the old army bunkers on the many trails last I knew free spring water not sure about the coronavirus though.
Ana Paulette Arreygue
Great for long distance runs, but make sure you bring enough water.
Jared Greanya
Beautiful park. Very secluded. Nice new electric hookups with lights on them at night. Bathrooms were clean, water tasted good. Close to many beaches.
Ness
First time camping at this state park- all I can say is wow! Park rangers friendly, facilities are clean, campsites provide great privacy. Definitely will be coming here again sometime in the future. Thank you!
M Ferrick
Great park well maintained
Frank Moseley
Nice wooded campsites. Picnic table and fire pit. 15 Amp electricity.. No water hook up. Water points in the campground, bathrooms and showers are nice. Firewood sold at the campground office.
Renee Carlson
I love that you can take casual walks with your dog (like my American Bulldog, Cezar, in the picture) or you can pick up the pace and do some mountain biking. Whether you are someone who enjoys paved/well traveled woodland paths or making your own trail, Wompatuck is the perfect spot to go that's not far from home 😊 …
April Williams
The staff and ranger were wonderful and kind, especially when our original campsite (L08) couldn't accommodate our camper. This is a no frills site ideal for those who want to get out into nature.
Ezra Thompson
Lovely place. Went Camping for two nights and loved every second.
Deanna Hsiao
Great place for a quiet bike ride. Never crowded and scenic views!
Brian Baker
We arrived in the dark got set up went to bed got up went to the beach. When we returned we really started looking around and there was just crap everywhere. So many cigarette butts it was sitting in a giant ashtray.Piles of ashes Nip bottles bread tied broken glass hundred beer bottle caps eggshells clamshells dog poo ECT. Called the Ranger station he came down within 5 minutes and cleaned out site spot less. He filled 4 5 gallon bucket up. Excellent service.
Michael Papagolos
We had a fun time there but who cleans the bathroom at 830 in the morning (glad they do clean them but maybe later in the day) had to walk to the other side of the campground with all my stuff (clothes towel toiletries )
Kristopher Fronk
Beautiful quiet..a great place for a walk/hike
Bill Kenerson
One of our favorites! Friendly and helpful staff and extra clean bathrooms! Thanks for the stay!
Janet Bargar
A nice retreat close to Boston. Miles of paved bike paths and a fun new bike park, too. Campsites are wooded and spacious. Watch out for poison ivy, though!
Robert Beaulieu
Beautiful biking! Excellent walking trails also. Bathrooms are open to the public. Great for picnicking too!!
Curtis Salata-Hartman
Good place to walk with kids and pets. Does not offer much in the way of hiking. No blockbuster sites or places of major interest. A few vestiges of the old military base, but most have been destroyed for safety reasons.
Tommy Sands
This place is the bees-knees of parks and is easily the best one on the south shore. There is an amazing amount of trails for walking and biking. I have never camped here, but some of the camping areas have electricity hookup, bathrooms and showers. There are some nice ponds here and a boat launch at the aaron river reservoir. Bird hunting is allowed in the wildlife management area. DON'T DRINK THE WATER FROM MT. BLUE SPRING. With all the ordinance buried in the ground from when it was a ammunition depot, its not a good idea. You will contamination flags in fenced off areas. Supposedly the Army Corps of Engineers are to resolve the parks contamination problems. Old military buildings can be found on park property that were once used to assemble Depth charges, bombs, and rocket motors. If you visit the the Ballistite Grain Inhibiting Building near N22, N25, N28 you will likely walk into the middle of an airsoft game.
The Noid Master
Well maintained camp sights. Friendly rangers.
kim van
Little water falls on a warm day while walking was wonderful. Then a new batch of baby ducklings. There is nature and beauty all around. 😉🙂 …
Jeff Mitchell
Great park it has been my favorite for mountain biking since I started. Trails aren't always clearly marked so it can be easy to get lost. West side has better biking.
Zyad Khan
I love this place, I go with my dog often, he is off leash and it's super calm
Jeffrey D'Angelo
Amazing park, great for biking! There are trails for all levels and abilities (from pavement to challenging terrain parks). The trails are well kept. There are also good hiking trails.
DryBones Riders
This is an old ww2 ammo annex. The bike/walking trails are great. Excellent vacation spot with plenty to do.
Chris Bloomfield
Sites are good, wide and level. Only 20amp power. They overcharge out of state visitors. They have recently raised the out of state price and I think it is having an effect because a huge section of the place was empty, even though it is the middle of the summer. Almost everyone we see he is from Massachusetts and there is only a few of us from out of state. We would have stayed longer, but it is annoying they charge 50% more if you are from somewhere else.
Jeff Behn
I love this place. It's close enough to be an easy drive, but wild enough to feel like you're far away from the city. Easy access to the coast, tons of great private sites. Both electrical sites and "primative."
Kevin Sosinsky
Great park. Central to so many events and attractions. S short drive will get you to the MBTA and the Boston environs. The South shore has loads of great little restaurants.
Arthur Liao
Great park. Took my doggos to run off leash and ride my bike. Also tested out the doggy bike trailer.
Tina Sparuk
Angela from DCR let a great kayaking tour. Beautiful reservoir, very relaxing. Busy park, DCR works very hard.
Lois Krawczyk
Best of the DCR parks we have been to. Campground sites spaced nicely, excellent trails for biking, hiking. Very dog friendly.
Tobias Macey
This is a great place for hiking, biking, etc. There are lots of trails of varying difficulty including a large network of paved trails. Great place for a day outdoors with the family.
Nicholas Schwab
Excellent rv campground. Lots of space between sites.
J&N&F&M Klein
Nice Campground if you want to visit Boston. You can easily reach the city by ferry from Hingham. Nice suburb an the way. We would definitely recommend the park!
Brandon Gramm
Best State Park on the South Shore. Bike trails are extensive enough to ride all day and are maintained well by the locals. Parking is available in all towns bordering the park.
Jon Bettinger
One of my favorite state parks in MA. Tons of great mountain bike trails, and an awesome place to run. Really great graffiti on all the old military buildings too.
Tommy Walker
Great place for all types of outdoor activities! Family friendly and super fun trail system!
Eric Drouin
Tons of spots, great value, electric hookup, and not too far from public transit to Boston. No water or sewer hookup though and I wouldn't drink the spring water nearby due to the history of being a former Army ammo dump.
Nathan Wait
Outstanding in every way. Great hiking and walks around the park. Outstanding views and well maintained trails.
Gary Livingston
Clean campgrounds bathrooms also good. Just no swimming place but plenty of trails.
Sharleen Lawler
Love Wompatuck state park. Been going here since i was a kid. You can camp here along with biking, walking or running. This place also has its own natural spring water for drinking for free. Just bring your own jugs and u may need to wait in line for one of the 3 spouts to be available. Enjoy! Ps directly across street is Hornstra Farms. Open to the public and has some of the BEST fresh pasteurized milks you will eva drink. My favorite is their strawberry milk. 😊
Ioannis Maniotis
I camped there 3 nights, Private, the staff was helpful, and the campground was perfect for what we needed. It was one of the best experiences I have had in a long while. I will defiantly be back!
Mashi Hasu
Trails are well organized and they have a good map available on-site. It seems to get busier in the afternoon on weekends. The information center has bathrooms which is a great help.
Ed M
Great place to bike, plenty of paved roada and trails. Big camping area and you can walk all over.
jacob nerses
Great for boy scouting and, hiking and, camping although I don't know if you need permission to camp
Steven Coffey
Wompy has miles and miles of paved and unpaved trails, and a large reservoir for fishing and boating. Also, there is a spring that has better water than Poland Springs, and it's free!
Kevin
Did full time camping in mass state parks one season. Wompatuck was a sort of home camp, close to job. Its location close to boston was ideal for me. I put up camp at wompatuck my first night of season. Never forget how dark and quiet that night was, beautiful really. I plan on going this season, as much as possible.
Tim Taino
Great State Park. We loved our stay. Quiet, clean, safe, everything one could ask for. Oh! As a state park, you, of course, get great economy, too!
Sean Patrick
Very well marked, clean trails, beautiful sights and plenty of room to explore.
Tent camping was great, clean site with lots of space.
Francis Moran
Very pretty, especially in Fall.
Very crowded all the time. Lots of bikes and kids. Worth a VERY slow ride to the top and back. Some folks are even nice.
Jessika Reynolds
So nice and clean and there's so many different trails and walks. Great for dogs and kids.
Joseph Brennan Jr
Great for walking but there are ghosts of Indians whose land we stole from them. Don't go off track. Watch out for grizzly bears as well.
Deborah Sutliff
It's nice and quiet here despite it's close proximity to Boston. Most sites are wooded in the RV area, but large and comfortable.
Todd Andrews
Reasonably well kept State park with many powered sites. Pandemic currently means every other site is shut down as well as at least one loop.
Max Faramarzi
Great campground. Clean restrooms and showers.
Courtney Gioncardi
Great place for camping! 🏕 The bathrooms could be cleaner than they are, other than that no complaints, many things to do at Wompatuck State Park 👌 …
David Gingold
No swimming hole, but otherwise it's the best state park campground around hands down, with beautiful quiet tent spots far away from the RVs.
A Mac
Wompy is where it’s at. People that take care of the trails do a fantastic job. They even groom the trails in the winter for fat bikes. Wompy Winterfest is an event you will not want to miss!
Betty Yu
Love this park for mountain biking. The south side trails are really nice and offer beginner/intermediate single track.
Pamela Johnson
Fascinating park with amazing history. Love the campgrounds and the DCR staff is helpful and friendly!
Jason Glenn
I was only here for a short afternoon, but this State Park is beautiful and enormous! I felt like there is so much to do and see. This place could be explored for days, maybe even weeks.
Marina Stotz
We stayed two nights here in our Skoolie. Close proximity to Boston. Great park
Vlad Palchikov
Love to go biking there. Also cool spots to take some forest photos.
Harriet Barnes-Duke
This is my favorite state park in Mass! Great camping!
Andrew Johnson
Wompatuck is alright...My fiancé likes this place. I don't know, the way the sites are set up seems awkward. I don't think it's one of DCRs best campgrounds. Doesn't seem like a very popular campground.
Nathaniel Fahy
Good clean campsites. Ample space and option to have electricity. Good biking paths and hiking trails.
Anthony DiFranco
Great place to explore. Miles of trails bike or hiking. Good fishing and great campsites. Lots of geocaches if thats your thing.
Wendy Hilt
Delicious, reasonably priced and run by Amish. If the Amish themselves eat there, you can bet it's terrific.
E Teresa Burke
A new trail opens this year and 100 campsites added- for a total of 240 w/electricity & 22 w/out! The closest park to Boston for camping.
jraoul711
A jewel of the south shore. It's a huge park with extensive system of paved bike trails and walking trails. It also has a camping section.
Douglas Babcock
Nice trails, great for biking, good views, a great pond. Also places to park right next to trails. No swimming though.
R. Hopson
Great hiking, nice sites, lovely lighting and they have outlets at every site! My minimalism considers this glamping. Love
CA
We love Wompatuck. The trails are beautiful and well maintained. We trail run here, mountain bike, and hike. This is a gem.
Curly JC
Amazing old Naval ammunition annex
William Thomas
nice hiking trails, great spring water, awesome camping with clean clean bathrooms. Just beautiful and relaxing
Ron Rcgtiger
Really nice campground.
Scott Beers
Wompatuck State Park has it been a favorite camping and Hiking site of mine since I was a kid. Very well-kept a great place for the family.
Joseph Power
Had a great night camping with my grandson, daughter, and her friends. It’s a nice, simple, clean, inexpensive campground.
Corinne Bennett
Loads of trails both paved and otherwise, good for dogs, strollers, walkers etc. You can get a really good walk in here!
Lori B
Great park right outside Boston. Large wooded sites, plenty of hiking and biking trails and a natural spring to get drinking water!
Gene Santorelli
We were there for Thanksgiving in the woods. All of the Scouts and their families for an great meal and just a great event when we all meet to enjoy each others company.
Hop Odysseys
Camped here (in our van) - lovely spot. Right outside of Hingham. Lots of biking, hiking. We’d go back!!
Alexandre Lima
Nice place to biking, hiking , fishing and camping
Eric Stadnik
Quiet, clean nice restrooms, only 20A at sites with electricity, and shared water every (about) 8 sites. Well patrolled by park & local P.D.
George Hickey
Great place to go move
Not as empty as we would like for the pandemic, but much less busy than some other parks I have visited.
Christopher Mcauliffe
I visit wampatuck a lot to bike, hike, and fish. Great campground too. Fun place to be overall
John Gnassi
Quiet, not crowded, easygoing. Showers have only 1 hook on the door & no curtains, so hard to keep clothes dry.
Martin Lawrence
Nice park, kinda outdated though, good location but not much for kids to do. If your a trail person that they do have! Mediocre park
John Giffin
Great place for car camping or a bike ride with the family. They even have a dirt pump track for cycling!
Shannon Murphy
By far my favorite place to hike. It's so full of history. Camping is affordable.
Ryan Esco
The has plenty of trails and is a great place to enjoy nature.
Dave D.
