Very interesting and unique spot in Philadelphia. Large mansion and grounds devoted to play. Playground area and nature trails outside. Lots of different equipment for various age levels. The giant slide is not to be missed. Indoor dress up rooms and a basement play area. Lots of bathroom facilities. Definitely worth a visit.

Wow! I haven't been here for almost 6 years and it's incredible! Friend's daughter had a birthday party here and the staff support was really kind and thoughtful. Loved the backyard/playground especially. It was wonderful seeing so many children playing together outside. Wish we lived closer to return more often.

Overall, cool experience for kids. I have yet to visit the outdoor playground due to the weather. I really want to love the playhouse, but it’s not the best for small toddlers or children who may still put things in their mouths. There were small bits of toys and trash on the playhouse floor. A few of the electrical outlets did not have covers. The pros of the Smith Playground is that it’s free for the community. There are tons of indoor playgrounds throughout Philadelphia but most are not free. There are several floors for kids to explore. I took my son and niece and they had a blast. They didn’t want to leave. Great activity if you are in the area. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here.

Incredible place to take your kids, much more then a playground. 3 floors of indoor activities, reading rooms, and play spaces in a beautiful historic mansion. As well as multiple outdoor playgrounds and the wood slide. My son was absolutely enthralled indoors though and if we lived in Philly I would bring him here often. It’s like him having a mansion full of toys and play and nice places for the parents to relax too. Wonderful place that shouldn’t be missed, by donation, and please do so we can keep this place open another hundred years!

Visited the vintage wooden slide during a Fairmount Park Scavenger Hunt. Love that it's open to all ages. Do recommend taking the burlap sheet to protect yourself as you slide down. It is not too steep -- fun for all ages. When we visited the toy train, our shiba loved peeking out of the engine!

My son really loved playing in the indoor play space. Everyone was friendly there and there was so much to play with. It’s a great space to go to on a Sunday.

The playground itself is LOVELY. My daughter had a great time. Our car got broken into, though. It was in the open parking lot just like all of the other cars. Stay safe!

We had a great time. They have things for toddlers, young kids, and older kids to enjoy. They do have picnic benches, however they may be limited due to parties reserving them. Not to worry though, there is plenty of space in the front yard to lay out a blanket and some lawn chairs. A food truck showed up with some basic menu items and water-ice. We will definitely be going back!

Wonderful playground! Excellent individual structures with a setup that had my Very Strong and 'never quits" 7yr old granddaughter going from one piece of equipment to the next without any need for encouragement! My late husband used to *Cherish the Right* to help polish the giant wood slide when he was a kid in the 1950s. When it was neglected due to the cost of up keep etc through the years he was very sad. He was Vietnam vet, with all the pain conflict that he had, it was Wonderful for us to visit the slide with our kids in late 1990s. They were able to slide, not in the Grandeur of his childhood. Saturday when I took my granddaughter the slide was in Beautiful Condition! The playground around it has soft landing material all around the structures. My husband used to laugh about how in our day jungle gyms were all metal pipes, built tall with concrete all around them so we could 'crack' our heads open! It was a perfect day in our Memorial Weekend! (Be sure to go inside to see pics of history on all 3 floors, it is a good opportunity to teach kids how things have changed and how they haven't). Also, they need donations to fix the bathrooms, just FYI... It was a perfect little trip! We were a little busy so I guess I didn't get a pic of the slide?!

A fantastic playground, playhouse, and educational resource. There is something Tor every kid of every age. The playhouse is great for on its own, but especially awesome to have somewhere to go if you get caught in the rain! They also do birthday parties and events. Highly recommend coming here with your little ones!

A nice place to take your kids. It's donation based, so you can donate the amount you want and enter the par. They have painting activities (at least the day I went). Kids can run and play on the different stations.

Smith Memorial Playground is a treasure of the community. It is a historical gem in Fairmount Park that offers children of every age squeals of delight and boundless laughter. There was so much running, jumping, spinning, sliding and much activity in almost every area of the playground including the Colonial PlayHouse. It was a lot of fun to be there with 7-yr old and 10-yr. old sisters!

Spectacular playground. Huge, open, well maintained, immensely varied option that is a must visit. We drive down from NYC to take advantage of all Philadelphia has to offer and this is a required stop. Our kids have a blast here. A special feature includes the wooden, covered slide that provides burlap sacks for maximum sliding fun. Can’t recommend this place enough

Best park in Philly hands down! Something to do for all ages. Giant wooden slide is and will always be 1 of the best things to do there. The park has super clean grounds, lots of shade and fun entertainment for my 5.5 year old! We will be back next week.

Love this place, it's great for my grandson who has autism. He loves to spin and they have many contraptions for him to do just that. We always have a blast. They even have an indoor play area which is great on too hot days.

This large mansion and grounds are devoted entirely to play, with all ages welcome. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the whole atmosphere was quite charming. The playground is equipped with slides and swings, as well as other fun things like a climbing wall and an obstacle course. There's also a sandbox where kids can dig in their toes or make mud pies

The outside facilities are spectacular. There is equipment for kids of all ages. Taken my neices nephew ages ranging from 18 months to 5 and they all had a blast. Not to mention the large slide, everyone should take a ride on that at least once. I mean EVERYONE. Grown-ups will enjoy it as much as the kids do. The inside facilities are a bit lacking though. The toys in playhouse are probably at least 8-15 years old. I like the fact that there aren't any electronic toys so kids have to use their imagination, but even still some of them are likely from the 1990s or older.

Omg this place is one ofbthe best parks I've been too. Cute gem in the middle of strawberry mansion. People travel 45 minutes or,more to get to this. They have 3 tiers a slide that's wicked cool. A must for fall visit won't regret it. Clean grounds friendly staff

I'm new to Philadelphia and I am a nanny as well. Everytime I bring the children here the staff is so polite and they always welcome you with open arms. Today two lovely ladies sit out and we're super welcoming when my child and I came in.. Tiffany and Shasmine thank you so much for your kindness and all your help during our stay.

U can smell the history when u walk in the house. The parks are perfect for children. Employees are friendly and they have a lot of activities year round. And the big slide is the best!

This place looks a little old and dirty but it was so much fun! Went with my siblings and nieces and we had a blast! Great equipment for high energy children of all ages, build muscle and release energy. The big enclosed slide was a highlight for me and my family (think slippery bowling alley wood floor warped into a slalom hill, with burlap sacks to go down with). We were there for hours and didn't even explore all the activities. And this what was just outdoor space! There is an indoor space for toddlers too! I definitely recommend this park. Enjoy!

This place is awesome! My kids didn’t want to stop coming down that huge slide. I loved to see the smiles on their faces every time they slid down the slide. The whole atmosphere was overall great. There is plenty of things the kids can do at this park. The staff was friendly. I can’t wait to bring the kids back.

Oh we just love smith playground. It’s fun for the entire family. I enjoyed watching parents interact with their children and were friendly to other adults. Everything and everyone there was so cool. I highly recommend everyone visit as often as they can. It’s never a dull moment.

We went to a kidchella event here and this place is amazing. The children had sooooo much fun they were so busy enjoying all of the fun playground features. Slides, swings, a giant boat, a web jungle gym... The list goes on. It's a total must to take your children of all ages.

I haven't been in years to this playground. It has been remodeled since I went last and I love the different activities to engage the children and the set up is for the safety of the children. It is unfortunate we don't have similar setups at more impoverished areas throughout the city.

Very nice indoor and outdoor play center to go with the kids all ages is free have parking have nice activities in the indoor, but the outdoor park is another level, super big and many activities, amayzing for the kids, but bring your own food and drinks because there is not. Another very fond distant memory from my past .This place is certainly quite salient as well as indelible in my mind and memorable to me from the many places I visited during my childhood. I came here once with a group other kids from a summer camp several decades ago . I can recall we all had an absolutely stellar and jovial time on the famous and colossal vintage wooden slide they have at this place . I never seen anywhere else that has a huge wooden slide like here at Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse ,which makes this venue truly unique. Although I am now a fully grown man ,I would love to eventually come back here only if I have any children in the future . I highly recommend paying this place a visit. It's a fantastic place to bring kids .

I've taken my son to this place a handful of times now. He loves it! We always spend about 2 hours here. We haven't been able to go inside yet due to renovations but i was told back in April from a worker it was going to be done this fall so I am taking him this afternoon, in hope that we get to explore the new playhouse since it isn't that nice out today.

The playground is a mansion and grounds donated 2 Phila.by a wealthy but childless couple for use as a playground 4 children at the turn 2 the 20th century .It has a lot of outdoor apparati and many toys indoors but the premier attraction is a semi-indoor wooden slidingboard.U r given a burlap bag 4 ur hindquarters but probably don't need it because the wood is like the wood on a bowling alley.Admission is free but donations r accepted.It's a nice place 2 go 2 c people little and big happy.

Kids are able to benefit in many ways. I still smile as I remember my days as a child on the 'big' sliding board. 😊I now get to enjoy an amazing part of my childhood and my children's childhoods with my grandchildren. 😄 The renovations are wonderful! I'm not afraid of the bathroom anymore. 🤣🤣🤣

Nice play area. Buildings were under construction with tape around the area. Bathrooms were well kept ONCE you were able to LOCATE them. Directions were confusing. Attended a 4 yr. OId grand nephew's birthday party. Outdoor venue cut down on Covid transmission. Pleasant attendants did come around to check in on participants about trash , maintenance needs etc. Pleasant experience other than trying to find bathroom facilities. You bring your own food. There were reserved areas with partial covering and table benches for party hosts. Didn't get to go on the famous giant slide. Park area was closing .

Super cute place for children that are newborn to about 12 years old. It is free but they ask for a donation. It is very clean and kept very nicely. The park area is ginormous! The wooden slide is so cool! The inside has all different rooms! Would definitely recommend to anyone who has children !

Great place for kids to hangout. Employees are super friendly and always welcoming you with a pleasant smile. Enough parking space. Parking space may be bit short, if its really a busy day. Wooden slide with sack seems to be favourite of all (even parents accompanying small ones are enjoying it)seems. Play area is seggregated in to 4 sections, which is nice). Entry is free, but i heard that donations from the guests helps to run it smoothly. Restrooms are available there in the main building.

The playground is really big and fun with plenty of stuff to do for all ages. There's an inside and outside for your preference, and there's always a ton of kids out for your kids to play with. My only complaint would be the cleanliness of certain spaces and that some things should be updated or maintenanced but it's still a great spot to bring your child for free!

One of the best parks I've been to. The kids (ages 3,9 & 15) love when we visit this park. Tons of space to run, things to climb on, jump on, swing on. Numerous shaded areas to cool off in. Plenty of grassy areas to have picnics. Definitely 5 stars!

I came here for the very first time today as a field trip and my kids ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! The playground is huge and it's pretty spread out so you can always find something for your kids. There's rope toys, a giant slide, an underground racetrack and a huge climbing course. I don't think any kid can be bored here.

My toddler had a blast. We were there for a birthday, but we explored much of the playground. There's a lot of equipment, spread out. - The playground has equipment for all ages - The ground around the equipment is rubberized - There's a large, covered slide made from an old bowling alley lane - There's an indoor play area for younger children (best for ~2 and under) - No charge

We've been to the playground many times. The admission is a donation, which is awesome during the times that you're hurting for cash but need something to do; you can always double your donation the next time, or scrape together some change. They don't allow food in the park, which keeps the place clean, but is kind of a bummer. They don't search your bags or anything, so we usually have a snack and drink with us, but we're always very careful to make no mess and leave nothing behind. We always enjoy the huge, well groomed playground, it's a fun place, shady, so even on the hottest days, you can usually find a place to stay out of the sun, and my 8 year old has an incredible time every time we go.

A very fun and safe park! There is so much to do that we barely scratched the surface. There is a lot to do for kids of "all" ages. Staff is nice and responsible. I was able to park my stroller under a tree and not worry about it for a good hour. Very safe!

I had my son's first birthday here and it was great! It rained the entire time but we were able to be out in the side porch and didn't feel it at all. It was a shame the kids couldn't play outside but they all took advantage of the indoor playground. The staff was very friendly and helped us through every step of the party. We definitely will return!

A lot of space to let your kids play, be it on the different playgrounds (there's one playground area which is for the toddlers specifically), around nature or on the giant wooden slide. Also, on their webpage you can find out info about their working hours, events and the like. I couldn't take my kid to the playhouse, since it's under construction. And, last but not least, entrance it's free!

This is a really nice playground for all ages!! The outside grounds are the best part. The playhouse though is really old and outdated and so are the toys! Wasn't what I expected so we didn't spend a lot of time in there but my 2 year old loved all of it.

We had a blast during community day. I will say it is not the easiest when maneuvering a stroller. Other guests were nice and also had strollers. It was a welcoming experience. Staff was pleasant. Parking is always first come first served. street parking is available.

What an awesome place for kids. I have a 2 year old and a 5 year old and there is a lot to do at both ages. My 5 year old loves the dramatic play and kitchen areas. My 2 year old loves the train area and the downstairs city and street area. Both love the playground. We have been wanting to come here for over a year and are very glad we came.

Wonderful place for family fun! The best part is outside but when it's very hot or raining they close the outdoor playground and have a nice selection of toys and books on 3 stories (including the basement). There is no air only a few scattered window fans so be prepared for that. Really nice neighborhood staple :-)

This is the best park. My children have a blast. We could easily spend hours there. The hours are adjusted according to the season. There are so many different park sections and a nature section. The house section is for 5 year olds and younger and has a ton of activities for them. There is a real traffic light and little tike cars. It's so much fun! The playground is free but they have a donation jar so you can donate. Truly recommend this park for all ages and even for parents, you'll have a blast. Sidenote you can't eat in the park but the parking lot has a decent size patch of grass so you can have a picnic. You could make a whole day of it. You won't be disappointed.

Very large children's space. My kids loved the giant wooden slides and all there's to do outside. Inside, the air was not good, there is no ventilation. So we didn't stay inside the playhouse. No food trucks stopped by today, that's a bummer. There is a water fountain at the playground, so you can refill your bottle.

This is a wonderful hidden gem in Philly. They have playgrounds for big and small kids as well as a huge wooden slide. They also have a indoor play area that is really great when the weather is not. My kid has a blast every time we go to Smith. The only recommendation I have is an upgrade to the bathrooms. If you have a small child, they do not have changing tables in the bathrooms.

I took my 2 yr old here for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised. I expected large crowds as it was a rainy Saturday in winter, but actually it wasn't bad at its height around 11am and really cleared out by 12:30. We basically had the place to ourselves. Always luv it here!! My daughters have a great time. The playhouse is very good for the children especially when it's too chilly to play outside. There is also a baby section on the 2nd floor which is good for babies that are crawling. It gives them some time to play too! I always find parking and it's free. The playground is huge with many things for everyone to enjoy even adults. The big slide is a classic and parents need to get on for some fun too lol. The environment is very safe and nice. There are plenty of trees for shade. Make sure you bring water and food for the family. There is nothing here to eat or buy. Other than that it's great time for the family.

This is a huge, well-kept playground with a lot of fun things for kids to do. There is a giant sliding board, multiple swing sets, multiple jungle gyms, and a large variety of ride-on playground equipment. The playground is also fenced in. There is an indoor area for children 5 and under, but the kids in our camp were older so we didn't go in to check it out. There are bathrooms, which were keept clean, but are a little outdated and not well lit, which makes them a bit creepy. The kids really loved the playground and the 2 hours we spent here flew by quickly.

A very nice green space playground. I'm a grandmother now and I remember going to Smith Memorial Playground as a little child. There was dirt everywhere back then some 45-50 years ago but now they have cushioning throughout the playground for safety. I've taken my children there and now I'm taking my grandchildren there. Besides outdoors inside the house there are different rooms on every floor for children to play. You can also have children's birthday parties on the porch. The swimming pool has not been open for years but all in all some children cry when it's time to leave. Great place for children to play and be safe. Thumbs up to all of the supporters.

Such a fun playground! Many outdoor play areas -- play structures, the famous giant slide, climbing structure, a nature corner, playhouse, and the list goes on. Then, they have an indoor play area for crafts and dramatic play. You could spend a whole day there and still don't get to use all areas. Dated, clean bathrooms, no food in the play areas (you need to leave the playground to eat). They have activities and story time during the week so check their website. Staff is friendly, even when it is packed and kids are wild. It gets crowded with school groups during the week but it's still fine. Free parking alongside the road.

Good place to visit with the kids. It's free (they accept donations) and a variety of swings and places they can explore. My kids enjoyed the wooden slide and other parts of the playground. The inside of the building has a puppet show upstairs that the kids can do. Recommend to visit with kids.

So much for kids to do. The wooden slide is still a hit like it was when I was a kid. I enjoyed the different outdoor play areas. There was also a lot to do for kids in the playhouse, although it can get a little hot and stuffy in the summer.

Too much fun to mention!! I didn't get to go into the Big House because of a private party but outside is one Giant Playground. The children have a variety of play options on different ground levels. The wooden slide w/burlap bag is short but sweet. Ya gotta slide on that more than once or twice. Everything is monitored, even a person w/bull horn telling us 15minutes b4 closing. Haven't been here since I was a little girl. Loved the new look of the playground itself. It was lots of fun activities for my children. We attended the Kidchella concert series this month and last month. It was such a nice treat and the variety of entertainment was great. I suggest a renovation to the restrooms located at the back end of the main building. Its slightly falling apart and needs some TLC. Other than that this is a must go for small children and their parents to take time out for the little adventures in life that help make memorable experiences!

Such a beautiful space and playground massive. Went for Kidchella and performers were great. Staff was friendly and everything was clean. Grass needed a nice cut but we were prepared with big repellant for critters. Parking is limited so expect a walk for special events.

There are lots of activities for children to do here for big and small plus they also give out free books for kids. As a family on road trips along the east coast, we like to stop at this park/playhouse for a break from the car. By any standard, the outdoor park is excellent. The jungle gym features and learning-oriented toys are top-of-the-line. Indoors, the equipment is dated, many things are broken or missing such as a complete lack of trains on the train table. There were many pieces of litter lying around. My gripes: In the basement where the riding toys are, the humidty and musty smell were very strong. Please add fans for proper circulation. The wooden slide had a queue area set up and employee to manage it, but it was a complete free-for-all on your way to the slide. Instead of ushering the kids in and ensuring each kid had their place in line, the employee sat texting throughout my time there. In general, the employees seemed to do very little to steward the property. There were many pieces of trash lying around and many employees on their phones while I was there.

Smith playground is super cute! I attended a wedding here and it was gorgeous. There's ample parking and lots of different equipment for kids to play on. There's a big enclosed slide and a fair amount of space in the building for events. The staff was super helpful!

Ahhh lovely Smith memorial playground! Most of you people that have grown up in Washington have probably played on this playground when you were young! It's has a giant wooden slide! That's one of the best parts about it! The whole backyard of it is a playground with playground sets that u may never see around your usual playground! Is this for adults as well you may ask? Why yes! It is! Adults can have even more fun they put in there new canapy tour/Zipline in! The opening of that with be the beginning of next year!

We love this park, if you have kids under 10, they will all find something to do and play, just keep in mind the park closes on Monday and the hours are 10am-4pm, if you go at the wrong time your kids will turn into snot monsters.
