It is a nice place to go and great experience for my first time camping! It is very relaxing. They do sell wood for $7.00. The bathroom is pretty far from where we are staying so every time I have to pee I have to drive over to the bathrooms. Should’ve brought a bucket lol. I thought our area would’ve been more toward the water. We brought our kayaks which aren’t so light to carry over to the lake. It gets chilly at night so bring extra blankets. Just wish I could’ve went swimming here): Will definitely be back soon!

A beautiful state park with nice size lake, sandy beach and hiking trails. Unfortunately, no rangers were on duty at the office (wanted to ask a few questions) maybe next time. Plenty of parking and campgrounds, a real gem.

The colors of Fall were breath-taking! 2 night stay with hiking adventures on the Appalachian Trail a short drive away to trailhead. The Paulinskill railtrail is a great option for a bike outing, and the State Park offers a boat launch for a day of kayaking. The campground was quite and clean, a peaceful weekend getaway surrounded by the colors of Fall!

Awesome place to camp. Very clean campsite. Nice fire pits. Only issue I had was I got stung/bit by a hornet, and it was the first time ever getting stung, so I beat feet extremely fast. I left a whole bunch of good fire wood all organized nicely next to the pit, I hope someone used it atleast ;( I will definitely return back !! Oh and maybe get a good look at the trees in your campsite, couple of large dead standing trees in the area, had a decent size branch come down, luckily just hitting the forest floor ☺️

people are pigs and dont like having to take their own trash out. so they try to stuff it in the bathroom garbage cans. all state parks is carry in carry out . know this before u go. the big shower and stall bathrooms are not opened probably because of covid. swartswood has the nicest swimming area in sussex county but state park funding is letting alot of things go down hill. but still my favorite place to be anyday of the week

Great place to camp, the swimming area could be cleaned better from the geese *** and the decaying seaweed / branches by the waters edge.... it was hard to get in and out of water for the kiddos.... could help with the smell too by cleaning it on a regular basis. Other than that we go here to camp every year and love it! Kids have a blast, the sites are big and grassy! Plenty of places to bike!

I personally liked it in a way that they offer kayaking, some trails, and pretty clean air. 2 things I didn't really like about the park when I got there were about the swimming area. #1 the swimming area was cut in half since they were doing some maintenance on it. But it could still be the same by now. Something else that didn't quite amuse me was how mostly the swimming area was for little kids in a way that the depth of the swimming area is low and close to the ground. They also don't offer food so you have to bring your own. Overall It's a good park.

Beautiful state park. Camping area is nice, we stayed in cs61. If you are in the field by the bathrooms there really isn't much privacy as stated in other reviews. The bathrooms themselves are standard state park; not the cleanest but not too bad. People definitely don't respect the quiet hours and they aren't really enforced; went to bed at midnight on friday and it was still very loud with music and people yelling. They aren't kidding about it being bear country, as we had a bear come into our site 4 times (kinda scary but also cool). The lake is very beautiful and offers great opportunities for sunset pics. Location is great, all in all nice park to spend a weekend.

Was very impressed with this park when we went for a 4 day camping trip. The park is very easy to navigate, even though our site was at the far end of the facility, the bathrooms were still within a 10 minute walking distance. When the kids couldn't wait for the walk, it was only a few minutes drive and there were a lot of parking spaces. Very convenient. The bathrooms were always well maintained and kept clean by the staff. The sites themselves were very well maintained, a decent size and properly spaced from neighbors. During the day, staff would drive past multiple times a day to check on the sites and were super friendly and happy to help if you had questions. The swimming beach was clean and fairly large. I just wish were was more shoreline fishing locations for people. The docks are small and were being utilized by boaters so you can't really fish off them and the shoreline was tree covered so not many places to fish if you don't have a boat to use. Overall, we were very happy with the park and will be definitely using it again in the future.

Lovely campground with spacious sites that had a lot of trees and brush for privacy/kindling. The bathrooms were really well-maintained and there was a surprising amount of trail/acreage within walking distance for hiking. There's also a beautiful lake right in the campground. Highly recommend.

Great park and lake...nice clean facilities and picnic areas. Two boat launches, one outside the park that is actually a little easier. The other is by the boat rental, a bit of a steep walk and launch off the dock. Rowboats, Kayaks and canoes to rent. The area around the boat rental and past the swim area was very mucky and covered with algae...hope that clears as the rest of the lake is a beautiful deep blue, clear and sparkling in the sun. Nice fishing spots past the boat rental but seems to fill up early. Also like to check out the boathouse restaurant across from the State Park entrance.

Stayed in the shelter section of the campsite and it was great. It was very clean all the shelters are spaced enough apart that everyone has their privacy. There is a separate bathroom for the sheltered camp site it has a toilet and sink and there's a water fountain outside to get drinking water. The shelters have a wood burning stove inside for. Cold nights and every shelter has a picnic table out side with fire ring and grille. Each shelter has parking for 2 cars and the bathroom can be reached by car if u don't feel like walking, rangers hardly bother u and the rest of the park is great clean beach and lake volleyball court and a half basketball court, showers are kept very clean and bathrooms are too.

our first camping, and it was awesomeeeee.. camping ground was good and had a restroom closeby.. restroom had shower and overall looked clean.. There were insects in the later part of evening, but it is quite expected on open grounds.. Good camp fire spot.. cheap and easy to book online.. lots of space to play for kids.. next morning we went to the lake, and kids had fun swimming, and with the boat ride.. we spent almost the whole day near the lake. lots of benches and barbeque spots.. loved it.. there was also a volleyball court which we used.. Overall a great place.. 10 mins drive - there was a walmart/stop n shop and many other useful stores.. 5/5 review

The overall experience was good, secure place, they everything including shower and cleaning station. We had lake side ground, which was beautiful, we brought inflatable boat. Unfortunately, if you can only use motors that does not make any noise or have to paddle or you will get noice violation ticket.

I loved camping at Swartswood. There is so much to do right within the park property, many trails to enjoy. The Spring Lake Trail is great challenge for mountain biking. The staff was lovely to work with and I was impressed with the cleanliness of the campground. Bring lots of bugspray ;).

Poggers camping site, so many pogger activities to do because of the space all over, a poggers lake to catch poggers sized dish and some giants. Hoping to go back another day it has everything! The only thing is that you have to be on time when it comes to certain pogger aspects.

Has pretty much everything for a fun filled day. Nice beach area with a small playground. Concession stand for lunch or snacks. Canoe/kayak rentals and a small boat launch. No gas motors allowed on this lake. Restrooms and changing stalls. Beach Volleyball court and even campsites. There are also picnic tables with grilling stands.

Nice park peaceful, beautiful not over crowded. To bad the swimming is closed for this 2021 season. Great place for families and affordable. Nice grassy areas if you don't like sand on yourself. Benches to sit while watching your children play in the sand. Showers clean, grills, picnic tables, few pavilions to have gatherings in with nice view of the lake. When the lake is open for swimming water nice and clear. Life guards very watchful and limit rough play. People considerate to small children playing near the waters edge. All around great place for a days outing. Went there recently and I only have 2 complaints and that is no swimming and the picnic area near the beach was not up to their normal standards as a lot of dog droppings left on behind by those who are inconsiderate and choose not to pick up after their animal.

This is my favorite park, and the lake is awesome! The trails for walking and hiking aren't long by themselves but doing them all together is very scenic and adds up to a few miles. The swimming and fishing are good too. The lakes big enough that you can easily spend all day kayaking around but not too big where you'd wear yourself out trying. The campsites are well spaced and there's a couple children playgrounds spaced through out the picnic/barbecue areas as well. It's a great park.

The bathrooms were really clean and the beach area was very spread out, certainly helps with the crowd during weekend. There is also a snack stand with some good nibbles for a relaxing weekend by the lake. We went camping, the campsite did not have a lot of privacy but there was some shade were we pitched our tents and set up a hammock.

Clean, well maintained, family friendly. Originally booked CS43 but once there it was easy to see that the campsites were private enough and because of COVID, I believe they were closing out every other campsite. We called the main office to ask for a less remote site and they easily moved us to CS34 which is wooded but still close to the bathrooms. It was a nice campsite. Next time we stay I think we'll try a campsite in the open area, CS30 - CS33. The open area looks very nice and it's even closer to the bathroom. Lots of space to run if you have kids. CS22 and CS23 are a great compromise of privacy with equal distance to bathroom or lake. The most beautiful site IMO is CS65, with CS64-53 all looking like great choices. Private, dry, and 65 is right next to the lake which is really beautiful. CS34-CS50 are all good choices as well, just didn't seem as desirable to me as they were the furthest away from everything. If you want the least possible car traffic, chose something on this path. Although car traffic during covid is minimal anyway as they have half of their camp sites closed off /non-bookable. Overall this is a wonderful place to camp. We'll be back again soon.

A family favorite for camping. We enjoy the more woody and semi private tent camping spots. Go at least once a year if not more to get away. Staff is great, very helpful and friendly. Well maintained camp sites, both wooded and open. Also have cabins, although I've never stayed in one. Clean washroom facilities with hot showers. Older, but generally well maintained. Beach area is nice, with life guards. Typical lake beach. We enjoy biking around the park, hiking and fishing. Boat rental available. Great place to get away and experience camping without sacrificing any of the basics. Highly recommend.

Hands down my favorite campground in the area. Very well kept, friendly staff, beautiful views of the lake. The one complaint I, and many others have, is that at night the venue across the lake (North Shore House) keeps their extremely bright lights on all night. The lights illuminate the entire lake with a blinding light that ruins the atmosphere and the great view around the lake. I wish someone would make them turn the lights off that point at the lake

Took my kids camping there and had a great time despite the heat (high 90's and humid). We spent the days at the nice, clean beach and out on the lake fishing. The campsite is clean, and well maintained. The shower facilities are one of the few that do NOT have those push button showers that only give a few seconds of water per push, but instead let you actually wash while showering instead of constantly pushing a button over and over. The boat launch is perfect and there is a small dock that I was able to tie up to overnight rather than having to pull the boat out each time after fishing. All in all, a great park and lake. We will be back... when the temp goes down a bit!

Coming back to this park after a 3 year hiatus and, simply put, great as usual. Due to the current situation, there was not as much people as it usually visit this wonderful place. Had a small get together with close family members, had some food made here, and we simply enjoyed the view, the fresh hair, and the amazing weather.

Beautiful park! The water is a little murky but clean. The sand is nicely maintained every day and so it’s fun for the kids to play in. Bathrooms are clean, lifeguards attentive. Food service ladies are a bit rude but overall a great park!

This statepark is good for people that wants to be able to do everything...camping ,hiking,swimming and has boat rental...its not that big which makes it easier to walk to the beach area from the camping ground. Clean and has a lot of playground for kids to enjoy.

It's not that quiet here at night. Someone had music bumping after 10pm. Quiet hours supposedly start at 10pm but nobody is around to enforce. Also the other campers don't know camping etiquette...they just walk right through your site. This isn't Times Square!

Lovely spot to spend the day, water is murky but it's natural. I wasn't allowed to bring floatation device for baby or kids, but baby loved the freedom, while being held. Picnic area with tables and grill, boat rental... If not for a late start, horseback riding around the way would have been great!

In a word""" Great!!!!! So peaceful, very clean, restrooms very close to campground,,the ranger's are very helpful. You can go boating, hiking, fishing, or just sit back an enjoy mother nature. It was my first time here,,,But definitely won't be my last!!! It's a amazing experience for children an family to enjoy the outdoors and each other. I would recommend this place to anyone..to get away from the hustle and bustle of living in the city.

One of my favorite State Parks a great place to do many different things. The camp grounds are plenty what is better than that. Wake up in the morning brush your teeth wash your face and go fishing. Yes I k ow I said fishing before I said shower reason being in case you catch some dinner you want to get clean afterwards. Outside of fishing you can hike trails, swim in designated area rent a plethora of different boats, kayak and canoes. There are to playgrounds for the little ones a concession stand for those who don't want to work the grill. I can go on and on but you will just have to go and see it for yourself.

The campground areas are ok. The lake doesn't allow swimming. The bathrooms are in horrible condition with poorly working showers.

Hidden gem. Several hiking trails across from park office. Get map for details. Duck Pond Trail is paved & handicapped accessible. Swimming, boat rentals & food concession available from Memorial Day thru Iabor Day. Nice picnic grove near boat rental area. Fee area for part of the park from Memcrial Day thru Labor Day ($5 weekdays & $10 weekends per car). Also, camping available.

Very nice State Park. Everything is near by...beach, grass area, consession stand, bathroom and grilling area. Husband and I are here now relaxing. Family friendly environment. It's a little over an hour away from where we live but it's worth the drive.

Close parking, walked right into the concession stand on the right and the bathrooms on the left. Shower and changing rooms. Shower outside also. Short walk to the lake, roped in water and small area to swim so you can keep your eye on your kids. Not too crowded. Also, had playground in case you or the kids need a rest from the water. So happy to have went!

Wonderful park, I've been coming to this park almost all my life. It's a bit of a drive but it is worth it. It is very clean, the rangers are friendly and helpful. Love going out there to have huge family cook outs.

As with most NJ state parks, beautiful grounds, everything well maintained, no trash. Campsites are big, no cell phone signal. Bathrooms are clean, people are friendly, and for $20/night, I don't see why people pay twice that for crowded, untidy private camp grounds. Maybe for the activities? I will def go back to Swartswood. Forgot to mention, on the plus side there's tons of restaurants/walmrt like 10 mins away, but you wouldn't know it while you're there.

A hidden gem in NJ.. the park is very well maintained , park grounds, playground, restrooms, beach are clean and staff is very friendly..you can grill here too..We rented kayak from one of stores and it was fun kayaking the lake.. you need cash only to rent kayaks and other boats though... All in all an amazing place for a family outing...

The park and swimming area is great but the state fishing ramp needs improvement.The ramp needs to be a little deeper, can not get back far enough to get boat on or off if your alone, need to take hip boots.Also parking should not be permitted to the right of the ramp, it impairs making a turn to enter the ramp to back down to ramp.

Kayaked this place a couple of times and though sections of the shore are heavily populated, there are large swaths of natural shoreline too. Lots of wildlife both in the water, on the water and in the surrounding woodlands.
