Reviews of Shirley Chisholm State Park
Javier A.
Great park, you can bring your own bike or rent! Also a good place to get some steps in, bring a hat and sunglasses because there’s not much shade except by the ports. If you get lucky, you can see the bunnies!
Lexa
This park is for total nature lovers. Not much else to see besides beautiful green and seascape. Hang out with by the seaside on the umbrella-table-bench, bring your snack box and just relax and enjoy the serenity. Free parking available and portable restrooms on site... All free.
Krammer Avillan
If your looking for something that’s in the backyard of Brooklyn look no further, although there isn’t trees to provide you shade there’s lots of beautiful birds you can see so bring your binoculars and if your into exercise this is also a good workout. They have a pier that it looks like you can fish off of and I believe there’s bikes you can rent for the day with plenty of benches and water stations when you first come in. Not a big parking lot but since it’s a local state park you could finish fast. Good to see us trying to give back to Mother Earth
Dorothy Browne
Our 1st visit was delightful and a perfect way to finish out the summer. Spacious, well marked trails with beautiful wildflowers and water views. Everyone was friendly. Lots of unoccupied picnic tables for people to use. The bike library was free and made it easy to explore. I think it is a fitting tribute to Shirley Chisholm!
Sean Johnson
It’s a beautiful, different park than I’m used to. Lots of paths with rubble that might be great for running. And it leads to a nice fishing spot! Some cool amenities like the bike library to check out!
Sherry V
Try heading west to the tranquil and serene environment of Shirley Chisholm State Park in Brooklyn. This location is an absolute hidden jewel. You will be pleasantly surprised to find some great scenic views along the winding trails. Pack your hiking boots and a light lunch to enjoy on the pier or any other neatly prepared sitting nook.
The parking lot is a bit tighter than I expected. Try getting there about 4pm when the crowd begins to thin out.
Brandi Yu
Beautiful walks. Borrow a bike for free right at the park and bring a picnic. You can’t even see the city. Lots of cool birds if you like bird watching.
Joel Zipkin
Incredible park for running, walking, and casual biking. Great water views, a large pier, but if you have a stroller, realize that the 3 mile loop trail is NOT entirely paved so bring the GT
Emilio Guerra
Great park, it's in two separate sections with different closing times. The Penn Avenue one will usually open until dusk. The Fountain Avenue one will close much earlier.
Denzi Yishey (Travel_with_Tenzin)
This is a hidden gem. I went today because I saw this while driving on the highway and felt like I should check it out. This place is serene, clean and quiet.
I must say that it is hard to find the parking lot. The park opens from 8am to 6pm. And perfect for biking, walking, running and short hike.
Highly recommend!!! I went for 90 mins of hike and it’s all worth it.
Madeline Villaruz
Went here 10am on a weekday in December. Lovely and quiet. The place is clean and all the trails are very well maintained. Even in chilly temps, there still are some peregrines and water fowl around to watch. Go up the trails to higher ground for great views of the bay, surrounding areas, and Manhattan skyline in the distance.
Other notable things: no pets, seemed like all the bike rentals were closed, many porta pottys and they were relatively clean, and it was nice to see many seating areas.
HUGO PRIMERO
Nice park . Make sure to bring your hat and sunglasses on a sunny day. And of course some bottles of water .
Keshia Holder
My go to for a good jog or walk along the water. Very quiet and what you need to get that woo sah time in.
Kathy Zhang
Wonderful trails to run, hike, bike, and skate on. Only downside is that dogs are not allowed. Watch out for ticks though!
Irene Patterson-Lopez
It's always nice to walk, bike, jog or run through the park and the nice scenery, along with rest stops along the way, as well as piers to look out over the water. The park is well kept and clean. The only issue I've seen is personnel stopping persons with dogs from entering the park, saying, "dogs are not allowed, except for service dogs". There are NO signs anywhere to indicate that no dogs are allowed. If it's not posted, then persons with dogs should be allowed in to the park. Otherwise, the park is very nice, as are the personnel. It's a welcome addition to the neighborhood and well visited by many people.

Still a work in progress, Shirley Chrisholm State Park is located in Brooklyn within easy reach of the city by both car and bicycle. Spacious parking lots are provided for the automotive visitor, while the many bike paths within the state park itself welcomes bicyclists of most fitness levels. Hiking trails, of course, zigzag the park making this a heaven for hikers. Bird watchers and hobby fisher people will also enjoy this gem of a nature reserve. Open from early morning, i.e. 9am, until nightfall, the lush greenery of Shirley Chisholm State Park is best enjoyed during daylight hours.
Yuvraj Ramsaywack
An expansive and well needed respite from the bustle of Queens and Brooklyn. This relatively new park provides gorgeous vistas of the city, the Jamaica Bay, and planes arriving/departing at JFK/LGA. The Fountain Ave section is my favorite as it’s much larger and less busy, though it tends to close earlier, so try to arrive at least 2 hours before sunset or so. I haven’t noticed any bathrooms, but there are portable toilets near the parking lots and some at Penn Pier that are relatively clean. Also, there’s very little shade given the nature of the, well, nature, so bring the sunscreen and plenty of water if it’s warm. I personally prefer visiting on cooler days and in the late afternoon or early morning. My primary critique of this park is how inaccessible it is to those without a car/bike, but hopefully that changes soon. Visit if you can!
Philip Zalon
An amazing place. I guess once in a while government gets it right.
When I was a kid we would have to keep our hands over our noses when we drove by on the Belt; the stench was horrible.
Today, when you walk around Shirley Chisolm Park it is easy to forget you are in Brooklyn. And there are things you see every day, but from an entirely new perspective; you look down on Gateway Center after climbing a path. You look up at the bridges on the Belt that you do not even realize exist when you drive on them. You appreciate the beauty of the water.
A terrific place, just like it’s namesake.
Mr. Shillington
Shirley Chisholm park will cure your cabin fever or, in the least bit, give you a quiet place to think. I have made three trips to this park, as you'll see from my pictures. The various elevations will leave you awestruck if you are physically up for it. As a caution, females will find vast areas of isolation intimidating, especially during the summer months when the brush grows back to its normal height. Prepare yourself for a workout. I think it's much better on a bicycle or mountain bike. I was hoping you wouldn't take my word for it; see it for yourself.
Kathlene Middleton
This park is awesome. It's full of trails, picnic tables, colorful signs that tell you all about the wildlife that's, there bathrooms, a yurt & a peer for fishing. The signs let you know exactly where you are, so pick up a map at the entrance and go explore. The only down side, the trails are full of pebbles, so wear your most comfortable shoes and happy trails.
Raymond Ellis
I enjoyed Shirley Chisholm State Park. The trails were interesting and provided good views of Jamaica Bay, Brooklyn and the surrounding area.
Sebastian Winter
Very beautiful park! Came here for the first time during the pandemic and it is very spacious and enjoyable. With 10 miles of hiking and biking trails, you won’t run out of things to do. There is bike rentals, panoramic views of the city, and plenty of picnic tables. There is also fishing allowed on one of the piers. The parking lots are not huge, though, so I would suggest you get there early.
Jenny Landsman
As you climb up hills, look out into the water, hear the birds, and feel the cool wind on your face, never in a million years would you think it used to be a dump. This place leaves you in AWE!! Note that it leaves so many in awe, that even with 2 separate entrances and parking lots, summer and spring parking is impossible on weekends BUT you can park outside of the park and trek it! Worth it!!!
Karen Gardner
First time going to this park during pandemic, and loved the breathtaking views. You forget you are in Brooklyn! Parking is free but limited so it is best to get there before 9am on weekends. Easier to park on weekdays. Picturesque. Nice cool breezes by the pier. Great spot for biking, jogging, exercising, walking, picnicking, fishing. No pets allowed. Very clean.
Michael Jans
Wonderful new park with nice walking/biking trails right on the water. One of the trails also leads to a small beach area.
Edit: They've also now just opened the other (larger) side except for the amenities and second pier, around the entrance the plants are still growing but it's already looking great. I couldn't believe the views you can get from up on the trails, the scenery can make you forget you're in New York City.
Ray
Nice place for family and biking. The park has two sections that are accessible via the belt parkway exits and are interconnected. If you are biking there some gravel sections. If you are visiting during summer bring lots of water, the park has limited trees, shade is limited.
Lori Younge
The park is nice! Upon entering the park, I was greeted by a young man who gave me flier about the park with a map on the back. He told me where to proceed to park my vehicle. There is a parking lot with lots of single-rowed, slanted parking. When you go in, you can see the Bike Library, where you can rent bikes and helmets. Hendrix Avenue continues on through the park with a nice paved roadway for bike riding and walking. It's over a mile long. Along that road you will see signs and park benches with tables. At the end of the road is Penn Pier, where fishing is allowed. It had a nice calming view of the water. There portable restrooms available at different place in the park. You also see other trails with gravel. I will definitely be back with sneakers to walk the trails. The park has lots of color images of and quotes from Shirley Chisolm, also accompanied by images of the different types of wildlife present in the area.
Tuna
An Extremely Safe and Clean park. The Staff here are extremely Nice and Helpful. The View here is stunning, and you can get some really Nice Pictures. The Park Closes at Night. Highly Recommend Coming Here.
Rafael F
Incredible location. Spacious. Clean. Took my 2 kids and it was extremely comfortable. They had a mobile vending truck drive by with food and chip and drinks. A pier within walking distance and lots of great scenery.
Corey Ashley
Fantastic use of public funding on a recreation area. Great for an outing, as there are decent amount of tables, most with umbrellas. They even have FREE bicycle usage from their 'Bike Library', you just have to get there early, at least before 4:30 p.m.
Bane M.
Clean. Beautiful to take a walk, jogging, and riding bikes. There is Bike rentals, from (Thursday through Sunday) (11am - 6pm) (until September). There are tables with umbrellas, if you want to get fresh air. NO Pets allowed. There is gravel trails to walk through as well, that has different views. Family oriented & quiet.
Jackie DeGroat
Clean and quiet, beautiful for a walk in sea vegetation under open sky, within sight of the city. Parking was filled by afternoon, and we had to park across the Belt near the Spring Creek apartments and walk across the bridge to the park. Penn Pier was filled with people fishing; we couldn't find a place to sit down.
Fowad Abdo
Great place to get away from city life in the heart of Brooklyn! Different trails keep the experience fresh.
Paulina A
When I heard that the grand opening was scheduled in July 2019, I was ecstatic. I'm so excited that this state park opened in my neighborhood. Although, there are several parks throughout the neighborhood and all over Brooklyn. This park is special because it is Brooklyn's first state park and it is named after a former Brooklynite.
Shirley Chisholm was an African American woman who accomplished many achievements during her lifetime. It is befitting to have a park named in her honor is a testament of her works and impact on the community that she served.
My favorite part of the park is the trail path throughout the park. A staff member told me bikes are available for free usage Thursdays through Saturdays but I believe that it is on first come first serve basis. Fishing is allowed in designated areas but swimming is prohibited.
Grilling is not allowed but you can have a picnic. No fires are allowed, no dogs, and there was a sign that said keep the wild animals wild. The hours of operation is 9am-9pm Monday through Sunday. The last entry into the park is at 7:30 pm. Security staff will not allowed you to enter the park after the cutoff time of 7:30.
There are several picnic tables with colorful umbrellas. There are ample portable bathroom throughout the park.
It is very nice and it is very scenic and I plan on visiting this park often.
Rafsan Ahmed
Nice place for an afternoon walk or bike ride. still kind of new so everything is clean and organize so far. No restroom some temporary restroom i don't know if they will keep those i recommend not to. Staffs are friendly. Not a bad park considering the fact that this entire place once used to be a landfill many years ago. Parking is free.
PS: if i someone wants to invade New York City this must me the right place for starting his invasion. You can literally see half of Queens, Brooklyn and skyline of downtown Manhattan from the hill while you walk.
Charlie
Huge park divided into two sections with two separate entrances. Waterfront with accessible piers and many walking trails. There are biking trails leading up to the park along the Belt parkway. Shirley Chisholm state park is fairly new so hopefully they will continue to add improvements like playgrounds, more paved biking trails and indoor bathrooms.
Yolanda Jones
This park has an amazing view everywhere you walk. Free parking & free bike rentals. The bike rentals are only from Thursday-Sunday 11am-6pm and the process is extremely easy. There are a few picnic tables around the area and no you can not grill in this park so I would advise bringing food. You can go kayaking (by bringing your own kayak) and fishing but you can't go swimming. I'll definitely be visiting this park more often.
Tip: (WHEN THE OTHER SIDE OPENS) if you end up bring your own bike, renting a bike or walking/jogging for a long time I would suggest to visit the other side of the park on Fountain which is bigger (only bicycles and pedestrians can enter through this entrance through the bike connector walk/bike way that's right along side the belt parkway)
Kiney Corbett
Wow what an amazing park in East NY! The hiking trail and bike paths are awesome! Quiet and one of a kind. One of the best kept secrets in New York! So proud. Could only get better.#eastnyallday
Flower
Its a great park! Though parking space is limited, it is a great park. Whether you're walking, running, skating/rollerblading or bike riding, there's options for everyone. There's picnic tables in different parts of the park where a family of 4 can take a break for lunch or a snack. There's a pier with lots of benches, a great view and a constant breeze off the water, that's a spot to check out. I've also seen men fishing a couple times that I've been there. Its also a great place for photographers to check out. The view from the highest point is breathtaking. Best time to go to ensure a spot is before 9:30.
Tara Jones
That was my 1st turn going there and the hike was amazing. Beautiful surroundings and the other park goers were polite and welcoming.
Clyde Fadhel
Great park nice trails great views bike rentals available picnic tables water stations to refill bottles and restroom facilities.
Mohamed Zamdin
This is wonderful park in Brooklyn. I think its a great idea to turn a landfill into a beautiful state park. The have a paved road and also a lot of trails to bike and hike.
Novella B
Didn't get the wow factor, but it is a nice park for walking or biking with nice views of the area. The walk is long to the pier. I didn't get to experience it because it closes at 730. The trails are deserted and the grass is high, so its good to take company along with you. It would be nice to see employees stationed in the far end and lights when the sun goes down along trail
Jeffrey Diamond
Great addition to the #BikeNYC community. Right off the Belt Parkway Greenway, lots of gravel trails with moderate hills with great views. Bike rentals are also available.
U Sowerby
I love riding the trails with my children, walking around with my mother, viewing the scenery from various points, or just sitting down to eat with family and/or friends.
Mike Flow
This place is wonderful. Having access to this park and prospect park makes Brooklyn the greatest borough. Plenty or bike paths and picnic areas. Great place for the family.
Ruth Z
To think this park was a landfill. It is amazing how beautiful it is. Definitely worth the hike. Free parking and free bike rental. Love it!
John Cheng
It is inside NYC on Bell Parkway greak for walking and biking. It also offer feee bike rental. It is good if you need a half day getaway.
Corinne Ciccarelli
My first time visiting the Shirley Chisholm Park. Very easy to get to. Super clean. Great views. Plenty of parking. I’ll definitely be back.
David Dalton
Amazing park! Doesn't even feel like you're in Brooklyn. It's peaceful and quiet with tons of space and picnic areas. A great park for a nice walk and take it the scenic views, or for a quiet and tranquil day.
Pauline Pratt
The park is beautiful and exquisite! It has so many activities to offer. It is a hidden gem in Brooklyn. Once you are in the park, you forget you are in NYC. From the view of the water, the trails and wildlife you are reminded how nice it is to be in nature.
darren mcnelis
A blueprint for rebirth built about acres of toxic dump bringing an outdoor respite and recreation to an area in need of escape. You are transformed to a state park far from the urban landscape and highway surrounding the park. Check out the Bike Library providing completely free cycles to anyone to enjoy the vistas from the former trash peaks to the piers.
Stella Robinson
Enjoy my trips through the beautiful gardens flowers and rocks picnic table down by waters. There's so many activities bike riding fishing etc. Nice to have in our neighborhood
t.l.
just discovered this today biking from canarsie pier—a pleasant surprise. it still seems unfinished, but is nice place to cycle or walk through, and i plan on returning for a short hike. love the colors and art at the entrance!
Jesus GJ Chuza
Very nice park, to walk or ride your bicycle, very clean I hope they keep it this way😎 …
Rose Santiago
Love coming here. It's great for either a walk, run or bike riding. Its quiet and people are friendly.. My only issue would be some cyclists are not considerate of the people walking as they don't slow down.
Kevin
A relaxing and fun place to be. I like the free 1hour bike rentals. The walking/hiking trails are cool also. I'm sure the future added additions to the SCDP will compliment the park also.
Jhanel Brown
i went summer break to brand new shirley chisholm park with by shirley chisholm beach park in spring creek village, new york i'm was doing exercise in the park and they've have brand new lots of picnic tables at the park for summer🏃🏿♀️🏃🏿🏋🏿👟👟👟 …
Jennifer Williams
Awesome place has a bike trail and picnic tables and fishing area and nice view sitting on the water
Charles DeWeese
Nice scenic views! Usually Windy. Nice to find a day that is not too hot or windy. One of my favorite parks in New York City!
Sandra Van Hoecke
I almost don't want to review this because I don't want it to get overrun by people and get ruined. However it's a gem and people should know about it and get to enjoy it (respectfully). If you love waterfront nature, this is the place for you. You can hike, bike, fish and kayak. The environmental center organizes activities like fishing workshops during the summer. No beach access or swimming.
Angiangell GORDON
Great place to walk or hike or bike, spacious with nice views of Brooklyn, JFK airport and Manhattan.
Theresa Chu
Ground are nice. We had a pleasant bike ride. However it can get hot by hot summer mid days.
Nadine Louis
If your a nature freak and love long walks, riding bikes, scooters, skating, etc. Then this is the place for you. Trails to follow are endless. Best part! Its in BROOKLYN! Right off the Belt Parkway exit 14.
Chana Backman
Beautiful getaway in Brooklyn. The beach is full of litter. The paths are gravel and hilly so if you have young kids on bikes, beware!
Maylissa Noel -Instagram: mn4jc
Nice place to visit for walking, hiking, jogging, biking (rentals are available) lunch break, picnics, or just to collect your thoughts
Oleg P
Great example of New York development!
- They opened second(large) part of the park.
- You can rent bike for free Thursday-Sunday(with driving license as collateral).
-They had friday fishing events(free fishing rode and bait), its paused but should be continued in a month.
- lots of tables for picnics
- lack of shadow(sunscreen and hats are a must!)
- can be very windy(bring layers)

Great biking park with bike library. Closes early in the winter. Great views from top of the trails.
Deborah Schwartz
Wonderful place. Marshland in the city! Nice easy walking. Saw lots of ducks, a heron, and a gorgeous northern harrier. Must be amazing in the spring and summer!
Leon
Great place for a lengthy stroll. Peaceful outdoor atmosphere. Fishing allowed in certain areas. Free bicycle rentals.
Natasha Gordon
Nice loop to bike. Used a bike from the Shirley Chisholm bike library. Will be returning a few more times before the bike library closes on Nov 1st. I've only visited one side of the park so far. Clean and neat, not crowded. There's a food truck that circles the park (decent prices for the food). Nice for walking and running also. There's free parking, porta potties, tables and benches.
Jim Freund
Very pretty and clean. Bicycle paths, nice birds, easy walking. Scattered playgrounds, picnic benches (no cooking), fishing and crabbing in season.
Chef Shanoir Cross
My new riding stop love this place I don't have to worry about potholes in the street
Eudene Neverson
So happy for this Beautiful park in my community. I don't have to travel miles to enjoy an awesome view!
VR World
This park is beautiful for a nice bike ride with friends. Would recommend.
Ray C
New park with walking trails. It has a pier for fishing. Beautiful natural landscaped
Ed Torres
Fishing Pier is half a mile from the parking lot and no shade. Be ready for a long hot walk. Perfect place if you have a bicycle.
Christopher R (Beast master)
Very amazing place and they're still developing the park 🏞️ I could only imagine when they complete it what it will look like …
Christina DaCosta
Beautifully done (new) NYS park. Would love to come back in warmer weather. Some gravel trails and a paved on by the pier.
Tahosée Germainlozada
Nice for early morning walks.
Fishing spots and picnic areas.
They also have parking but not sure how crowded it gets throughout the day.
Also has bike rental.
Only downside, I wish they build real restroom instead of the potties.
Borno's
Great place to ride a bike, or take a nice energetic walk while enjoying the wonderful breeze, on a breezy day :). Terrain is great, gravel or pave, whatever you desire. Also have challenging inclines.
Olumide Olosunde
In my opinion, this is the best park in NYC. It's giant, is naturally scenic, has free bike rentals, actual elevation, picnic areas, a hilltop sitting area, etc. I just wish the maps they have available showed all of that. The Sky Bowl (hilltop seating area along the Great Blue Heron trail) isn't mapped, and no type of elevation is indicated.
Yolanda Hill
Nice trails, very clean, and quiet!!! Peaceful
They do have parking!!
Shawndelle David
Finally! Right here in my back yard (Brooklyn) I could go for a nice cool walk and not have to travel to another state for this nature trail.
Somesweet Sunshine
Really really nice and quiet. It has multiple piers to fish on and picnic with family and friends. There is a free bike rental on the pathway to the pier. All you have to do to obtain a bike is register and leave your ID. The bike rental finishes at 4pm. You can rent 6 bikes total every 30 minutes. But if its not busy they may accommodate the time differently. The bike rental agents were really friendly and patient. You also get a helmet with the bike rental. There are multiple picnic tablet available before you hit the pier area. I didnt see any grills and i guess its because there are many trees and greenery. I would say this area is easier access for drivers and people that live in close proximity to the park. If you take MTA there is a 25 to 35 minute walk to this park so come prepared. There is also multiple portable potties for restroom use. If you like to bike ride or jog definitely a nice spot. This park is big so there are parts ive never seen yet. The park rangers are also helpful and vigilant. I loved my time there.
Amy Xia-Chin
Not too crowded, and got a good hike right in our neighborhood. Could use more parking spots though.
Zimmadia Imam
Gorgeous park with scenic views. Free entry and free parking.
Juan Rosales
Very nice park, still needs more time for trees to grow for shade but the park has set up benches with sunbrellas where you can seat under some shade. I do wish they set something up specifically for the fishing enthusiasts, I know the fish do come around that area. Bring insect repellent.
Beba Cotto
Great walk. Def should visit. Free parking
Jimmy Qiu
Beautiful park and tall grass perfect photo spot.
Nicola Richards
Beautiful scenery...hiking trails. Cool temperature, a bridge, places to rest
Jason Moses
This state park allows you to have your picnic, however unlike other parks, you can't bbq. Hopefully this will change as the park continues to develop.
Raymond Lomax Sr.
Nice experience...Biking, walking, running, hiking trails....available...Good parking... Well kept park!
Al Scott
A beautiful park with many walking/bicycle paths.
Mommy Moore
Great place to workout and enjoy the view all at once. Stay away from the bushes, there are warnings posted about ticks, Ughhh.😬😫 …

A beautiful place to be on a nice day. I am definitely coming back here.
Adil Aziz
Can’t believe this park is in queens, no need to travel far to enjoy a nice trail. You’ll also run into some bunnies on the trail which makes for funny videos/pictures.
Crystal Springs
I absolutely love this park. My kids and I go there to hike all the time.
Lourdes Cruz
On a beautiful day it has great trails.
Maxwell Lent
This new state park is so wonderful. It's such a welcome break from the city and right off the Belt. Entrance is free and the scenery is gorgeous.
Rose blu “Rose” Velez

Anielka Espinosa
Great park, plenty to do with children. My niece and nephew love it! Great Place to walk and exercise.
Dimitry naumenko
Fantastic views and a beautiful get away in Brooklyn that's right off the highway.
Jeffrey Rodriguez
The paths are perfect for walking, biking or hiking in nature.
Kinga Tzach
The newest NATURE GEM in NY. Trails for running, walking, hiking and free bike rental to explore the park.
Luie Romero
A really wonderful experience. Many birds to hear if you are listening. Lots and lots of trails. Smoothly paved and some super fun gravel roads as well. There were some really long uphill incline that were a challenge to make it all the way to the top on a bicycle. I look forward to going back to see what it's like with more vegetation.
Dennis Heslop
The environment is well kept people are very friendly and plenty to do .I mainly went for the fishing it was a bit crowded on the pier but still a good day
Derick Roy
Great place for hiking and biking
ernest lee morell sr
It's another beautiful place for families outings, fishing, biking, running, walking, and just chilling out watching the skyline of Manhattan and the belt way.
Maybe there should be several weather shelter for 🌧 days or ☀️🌡days, other than that it's an alright place. …
Kar Lee
Beautiful place to get some fresh air and exercise. You can hike, jog, cycle, fishing as well as picnic. The seaview is amazing. Make sure you wear some good sneaker. The trail has little stones on it. Bathrooms plentiful as well. Water also available. Recommend going there. Parking also free but will get full quickly. Usually late in the afternoon is a good time to go.

I love this park the sites are amazing. The trails lead to different parts of the park which are great. They have free bike rentals for 1 to 2 hours but its wise to register on their site prior to going. I so enjoy going here with my family.
Sophia Elizabeth Photography NYC
When there for the first time abd loved it. The view is amazing. It's a dope chill spot
Jiggly Puff
Nice clean location. Be careful for ticks lurking on the benches. Smooth pavement.
Sanna Salam
Its really good place with long and nice trails with bicycle road in the centre of city
Bernice Brown
I went to Shirley Chisholm for a bike ride..I had a pleasant experience with my sisters. The scenery is nice and you can make stops along the way to take in the fresh air and a few pics as well. A great place to hike, run, walk and jog as well. I recommend this park to all that like to get outdoors and enjoy strolling, getting fresh air.
Abevia Semple
Beautiful and serene location to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city while still being in the city.
William Rookwood
Nice park to take your family to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. No pets are allowed. The park has two sides. Fountain Avenue leads into one side for walking running and cycling. Pennsylvania Avenue side to me is more family oriented. Show your ID and you can get a bike to ride on any side. Visit and enjoy.
Michael Carannante
Quite difficult to access unless you know where you're going and not too much to offer in terms of recreation. The sea smells a bit when the breeze touches your nostrils.
J Knight
It is always a great time here, so peaceful.
leslie wilson
Very nice, relaxing. Be prepared for a lot of walking 🚶♂️. If you bring your bicycle you can cycle around and see the entire park. Still under construction but great so far. Plenty of free parking. Picnic areas, riding trails, waterfront views. Google directions may be confusing. Just take Pennsylvania Avenue as if heading to Belt Parkway. All the way to the end of Pennsylvania Avenue.
Nikirah Manwaring
The park is a nice place to ride bikes and have a picnic. Enjoyed ourselves. Until next time
Kellyann Davis
It's a lovely park it has parking and bikes you can rent for the family. The trails are amazing!' You wanna watch a good sunset VISIT! You wanna play physical games on a picnic with everyone VISIT! You want to lose a few pounds (my aunt and i walk every day) VISIT! Enjoy cycling?VISIT! Wanna be educated VISIT! (The park has facts plaques along every trail) I love this park and it's close to my house thankyou for opening this park!
Ricky Thompson
Great park to walk, jog run,. Not really for bike riders looking for speed. The walk ,bike path is not that wide, and unfortunately some of the bike riders have no common sense, and think the road belongs to them
The trails give you great views, especially of the city. Very good park to walk and enjoy nature. Also has a nice pier to relax on, plenty of seats. No pets, or B. B. Qs allowed, it's not that type of park. If your looking to have a nice walk, run or like good views of the city, this park is the place.
Nad Lat
Amazing park A MUST for all,,,miles of biking, walking, hiking,,beautiful
Amos Edwards
A great place for a morning hike, lots of winding hills and water views to make your experience more meaningful. The bits of artistic flourishes throughout the park add to the uniqueness of the place. It will be even better once work is finished.
Donna Stewartson
Great trails for walking bike riding, benches, rabbits, pier for fishing..Honoring Rep. Chisholm
Divinity's Child
Beautiful views of Jamaica Bay.
lucero mancebo
This is a nice park to go and workout, I love to come every summer here with my bike and sometimes walking. There’s not a lot of space with shade during the summer but still pretty good place to hit a workout & ride your bike.
Charise La Croix
Family friendly park. Lost of gravel and dirt paths, so wear shoes or footwear that you don't mind getting dirty. There are seating areas without the gravel but I only saw one area like that. All in all a good place to take the kids or go for a walk. There is also a pier being constructed and I am excited to return once that is open. Be aware that there is 2 sections of the park. Bring food and spend the whole day out!
Stephen Arthur
Awesome new park, I usually enter via the Fountain Avenue entrance. The Eastern peninsula is completely paved around it's perimeter, so very good for road bike loops, with a fantastic view of the Jamaica Bay. Small pier in the Southwest corner. Interior is rugged, but I've done it on a road bike, mountain bike would be much better. Stunning views of Jamaica Bay from the peak. Highly recommended. Western peninsula is nice too, only half paved, so I don't go there as much.
Nataliya Cuna (LuvMyHarley)
Super clean park and very different than any other park in NYC. It has beautiful open fields of native flowers and grasses, with meandering wide gravel trails for walking and biking, as well as narrower grass paths among the tall grassy fields. It's a beautiful park to bring your family for an outdoor outing, with amazing views. The sunsets at this park are so relaxing. I wish it would allow dogs, though. It would make a nice, long walk with your four-legged pal, but, unfortunately, no dogs allowed.
delbec NYC
Went here when it first opened and I am happy to see now that many Newyorkers and tourists alike have discovered it and the wonders of nature. It's a fantastic outdoor space for everyone to not only be in nature but also learn about nature.
Joshua Smith
It's a fairly decent park, very spacious. You can go fishing, running, jogging and biking. Nice picnic location. No real workout area or play location for children. Vast parking lot and staff are easy to locate. No water fountains but, they do have a bike rental location in the park. The park isn't finished being built as yet but, it looks nice so far and has great potential.
Stacey Duke
I love this park! Free bike usage! Fishing! Walking! Birds! Beautiful place! For a picnic; bring everything that you need. Use a shopping cart to bring everything to your table. We had a great time at the Hendrix Creek Pier. Please keep it clean! Pick up after yourselves! A great place to walk, talk and explore with the whole family! Go! Enjoy!
Julian Jean
Such a beautiful park, currently the third biggest in the borough, *I believe Marine Park and Prospect Park beat it out in size, but it certainly doesn't skimp on the beauty and picturesque views! I enjoyed walking through here with the family and snapping photos! The wildlife here is nice to see as well, saw small snakes slithering around to my utter surprise. The marshlands were nice to see. The beaches do have a lot of trash unfortunately, but I can also say that's par for the course in New York. Nonetheless, I love it here! The views alone have made me a fan! If you ever get the chance, bring your friends or family!

This is such an amazing addition to our beautiful city while also being educational and inspiring to all.
Dan E
Beautiful state park right in Brooklyn! Parking too! Wonderful views as far as Manhattan, Queens and Long Island. Various trails routes to take. Connects to pier on the water. Lots of picnic tables available with seating. Will be going back here again.
Update: Still a beautiful place to go and experience nature.
Camille Edwards
Park is absolutely beautiful. Bike trails provide enough space for all. Even though the pier is closed, there is still.alot of fun to be had. The picnic tables have umbrellas for you to sit and enjoy the view. I love it❣
Glenn C
I live in Brooklyn, and I drive past the park weekly multiple times. I had just gotten back from PA, and hiked a couple of trails and days (including Bushkill Falls (red trail)), so it was nice as a man-made trail (level or controlled) most of the paths I took. It has some great scenery, a lot of people but also spots and moments of solitude. A mobile store drives around with water, hotdogs, fruits, and more at very decent prices. A beautiful place to visit free for all, I wonder how many that live near might take the time to visit the new gem that has been opened here.
Stephanie Sa
SO beautiful. Free parking and free bike rentals. Paved trails great for running, walking, and biking. Lots of picnic tables along the way as well. Go on the website to find free self guided mindfulness and fitness tours!
Betty Vasquez
Anything brand new is wonderful. The picnic tables are very nice. The scenery is beautiful. Parking space can be a little better. People in general won't follow rules which is disheartening. I already saw cigarette butts on the ground. I'll review this park again in a years time and see then what it has become. Hopefully more beautiful. Fingers crossed 🤞
Christine Williams
Beautiful, Awesome walking area great recreational area for all. The fishing great, but I have noticed recently someone killing the horseshoes crabs. I thought that these animals were protected.
Ashley Brown
Beautiful park with wide open spaces and many trails. Great for bird watching and solitude. Parking, port-o-potties, and a water refill station. Saw 4-5 ticks on my visit last week, so just make sure you do a thorough tick search after your visit. I'll definitely be back.
shenell ross
This park opened up at the right time it has a great hiking/bike trail. you can't really sit on the grass to have a picnic but they did provided tables with benches at locations with fairly decent views. as soon as you come into the park you can rent a bike and just ride.
jeanice nicholas
What a great escape from city noise with, tranquil surroundings. It's a lovely sanctuary from the norm outside of the park. Plenty of picnic areas. Barbequing is against park regulations. It's a beautiful addition to East NY.
Alicia Fox
This park is amazing. They have a bike library where you can rent bikes for free and ride around the various trails. You can also go fishing. They have alot of picnic areas as well. Highly recommend
Lilly
This park is great! Went hiking with the kids and had so much fun. I’m glad they opened up a park like this where you can bike, run, hike, picnic etc in the neighborhood. A 10 minute drive for me! The view is so beautiful too. Very clean park!!
Elena Acosta
It is a great place to visit! There is fishing at the pier and great trails to walk. Picnic tables for you to sit and relax or bring a picnic meal. There is no barbecuing allowed. Thursday thru Sunday free bike rentals! Scenery from the trails are spectacular! A definite place to visit!
Travis Ramgobin
A more relaxed, adventurous and serene park. It’s very nice for that evening walk to ease those tension or u wanna go for a ride on the bicycles (free) at any time In the day. I love spending time there during the summer. It’s more of a nature-filled kind of park. U just wanna be free and inhale the fresh air right off the trees!!! ❤️ 🥰🤗
Gail Grandison
GPS directions were incorrect. It took a while to figure it out. Great place for riding bikes and hiking. Not great for picnics. Need more trees and grass areas where people can relax and kids have access to play and run around. There is a need for a full public bathroom and not portable toilets. Hopefylly the city is still developing the space.
Dama A (DamaSongs)
Such a beautiful park, couple of trails you can walk you can go fishing, there are a bunch of picnic tables with 🏖️ strategically placed around the park, ducks, seagulls just beautiful I went on a weekday and it was quiet and peaceful, you can also tell that it is well maintained just lovely ❤️ …
Stephanie R
I wish the trails were softer. Those rocks and my sours don't mix. But the scenery is the absolute best!
oscar saavedra
Wow we loved the piers and the climb up thru the slope to see the skyline of the city in the far end of the landscape. They do have parking, you can bike it, and they even have picnic tables. It's a must go place with the family for some good time exploring.
James Then
New and undiscovered park. Off the bay, has tons of hiking trails which is great for runners.
Wasif Siddiquey
Not an interesting place. But this place will welcome you with warm and peaceful air. I’ve seen lot of people fishing here, that means it’s probably a good place for fishing 🎣. …
Mashfiq Mahadi
Absolutely Awesome. They really redeveloped this place. It's very pretty with lots of nice views throughout. I went Mid June and the piers are closed, the street parking is every other car. Street parking is available nearby. Place you wouldn't want to miss.
jovito manrique
Great walking/biking trail, some are paved and mostly gravel road.
Maggie Voltaire
Beautiful park, lots if wondered views
Ms. Kally
Clean, beautiful piers, fishing allowed. As well as small animals.
Esha Diva
This is a great little park between Brooklyn and queens off the Belt Parkway. Our ride feel through so the kids and I took a lyft, which was super easy actually as the driver was able to drop us off in front. This park has a few walking/light hiking trails, a few piers and O think they are going to open up a small beach section next year. The kids and I really enjoyed it and will probably be back next weekend.
Shem Michael
I had great day cycling and sightseeing the view is nice
Frank Banchs
Good way to spend a couple of hours. Nice paths for biking and a pier for fishing. The Bike library is now open, make sure you get there before 4:30 they don’t give out bikes till after that.
Shany Thakur
A good place for party. They have bicycle rental place as well.
Kendra Hall
I have been to the state park once since it’s been opened. Honestly, this park is so beautiful and just extremely scenic. If you want to go somewhere to clear your mind or just to ride bikes for free or chill out and have a little picnic this is the best place to go. It’s absolutely free, and it’s worth just trying. Don’t wear your best footwear if you’re going there.
Sandra Harris
I went for the first time and was amazed how beautiful it turned out, even though it's not fully complete. It's great for walks and riding your bikes. The trails are awesome.i really enjoyed the fishing dock..
Russell Pergola
Lots of trails to explore. Nice views. Great for long walks or a bike ride. Great for picnics (No bbq/grilling allowed). Two piers and one you are allowed to fish off of.
J. S.
Didn't get to explore all of it but what I've seen is pretty nice.
Natasha Andrews
I absolutely love this park and the people that work here, it’s a hidden treasure in Brooklyn. I wouldn’t change anything about it but would add a bathroom by the flare or closer to the pier on the fountain side! Sending special shoutouts to Richie, Trifon, Joey, Mike, Samantha, Richard and all the wonderful folks that keep this park clean and safe!
jasper Chapman
The park is excellent and I loved the view. Walking was great and the bike trail is excellent, I will say the benches by the pier was not so clean but all in all it is a great place to come see. Oh you can rent bikes.
Karmela D
It was clean and people kept their distance which is extremely important. Loved the pier! You can fish, bike, walk, stroll. It's beautiful and right in your own back yard. Take the time to see it!
Nadia
I just discovered this park and I love it! It’s quaint, super clean, and there’s free parking. The hiking trails are great too. I’ll definitely frequent this park over prospect park now.
Sophia
Perfect place to listen to nature music and look at uninterrupted views for miles.
marilisa peguero
I have been there twice and love it! You honestly forget you are in Brooklyn and it’s the perfect spot to go spend it with the family or alone. There any many activities you can do. The pier is clean you constantly see the workers constantly picking up the garbage. I was there for almost 3 hours and they passed by around 4 times. My only dislike it’s that I wish they would have real bathrooms and not those portable potties. They leave a lot to be desired but expected from potable potties.
Ernest Morell Sr
A nice parking space easy to get in and out of from the freeway ,good fishing pier, could use some toilets at the pier.
I am still concerned about all that garbage under the park the long term consequences of people having visited it. But overall it a nice park, love walking up that hill, it will test your legs, lungs, and heart, and at the top there's a great view of Manhattan and south side of Brooklyn.
M. Alex Corrales
With the very nice scenic view, clean and clear roads this park is a gem to visit. I highly recommend spending the day and exploring this large and beautiful park. The people are friendly and there even is a space for fishing. Well worth a visit!
riel “acane” -
Two areas with walking/biking trails. There's a two hour free bike rental. Thats a nice bonus.
The pier is nice. It's a great spot to go for an afternoon stroll or have a picnic.
Linus Ly
Beautiful place to briefly escape the hustle and bustle of New York City life, while staying within the confines of Brooklyn. Miles and miles of gravel trails for walking, running, or cycling. Acres after acres of open space, great view of water and the sky. There are simple benches here and there on the trails to be used as rest stops. Plenty of parking space, for now, as the park is relatively new. Worst case just north of the Belt Parkway, not on Penn Avenue, there are parking spots.
When the park first opened there was much press coverage. Only the side near Pennsylvania Avenue was open, the Fountain Avenue side supposedly won’t be ready until 2021. However, by chance I discovered that the Fountain side is open and already visited that area twice. You have to park in the Penn side and walk to the Fount side. The Fount side closes at 5pm and a staff would be stationed at the gate at 4pm to tell people that it’s closed. It’s a large area, someone entering at 4 may not be able to get out by 5, creating more work for the park staff to go find them. According to a map for the park, a parking lot is planned for where Fountain Avenue ends. Other than the shorter open hours and the lack of on-site parking in the Fount side, the two sides are equally publicly accessible. The web site for the park already has scheduled events for both sides.
RobQc McCullum
Love this place it's like you're no longer in Brooklyn it's so quiet and peaceful nice scenery
Mark M
Great park BUT THIS IS A WARNING!
October 2020, I saw a small snake. Looks like it just hatched. I did not find an employee to alert, but be weary of snakes that might be around.
If you have kids, be careful and stay on the path as much as possible.
KVNK
Great place for a stroll with great views. Very beautiful, well kept park. A lot of water fountains with water bottle access. Negatives, bath rooms are only porta potties.
Kahli Sutton
Really nice evening hike hosted by; Tiffany, Kiera and Ryan.
Roberto Rivera
1- My first major dislike is, this park isn't DOG FRIENDLY, What? In 2020, my dog can't come to a park on a leash... If my Dog isn't welcomed, I'm not welcome either.
2- Then entire walk way should be black top, not to safe for the elderly people to walk on, too many pot holes and rocks, let alone for the cyclists for this bike friendly park. Black top is cheap, let's pave the entire walking path.
3- The layout of the park is awesome, plenty of parking, lots of portable toilets, plenty of hills, Penn pier is great place to have a Picnic, let's of garbage and recycling cans and plenty of tables.
I would of given it 5 starts if this was a Dog Friendly park, not sure if I'll be back to visit this State ran park, I'll stick to my local Dog Friendly park instead..
Roberto.
Felicia Modeste
My family and I had our first visit at the park today. There's many hiking trails which allow you to have an expansive view of Starrett City and the Manhattan skyline. The scenery and layout is nothing short of spectacular. Their summer hours are from 9 am to 9pm. I can only imagine how it will be after the completion of the second phase which will be in 2021!
Krystle B
Such beautiful scenery and a great place to spend time outdoors and stay active. I go for walks with my baby here a few times a week
al Judah
Beautiful and scenic place to walk, run and meditate.
Daun
Wonderful bit of paradise in Brooklyn! We saw an actual rabbit on one of the walking trails! Super cute. Port-a-potties were clean and conveniently located. No pets though, but still great family fun. Lots of picnic tables with nice views.
Valerie Harley
Peace and tranquility. One of my places of Happiness, Love and peace
Gia Sterling
I absolutely love this park. Perfect for an early morning peaceful walk or hike. A great place to take in the aroma of nature, lay your eyes on wildlife and simply take a whiff of the Jamaica Bay. This is serenity. Cheers all.
Carlita Salazar
This park is a real gem. It's a beautiful space. There aren't too many people around, just a few families enjoying the outdoors. I love it!
Anna Meade
So beautiful... You forget you're in the heart of Brooklyn. The many different trails give you the make leave fantasy that you're actually on a adventure. And, you can do so much from having some fun day with family or romantic picnic with that special someone, bike riding, exercise, fishing, or just spending alone time with nature. I enjoy each time I go!!!!
Paola Olivero
This park is honestly beautiful and quite the only reason I’m giving it 3 stars is that there bike station where you can rent bikes seems to rarely be open and there are ticks !! I was sitting on a bench and there was a tick on the ground crawling towards me luckily I spotted it before it actually got on me so be careful there are a lot of ticks here
Kim Ann
It is a lovely, tranquil, off the beaten path place to visit. It is still under construction and some sections are overgrown with brushes. However, it’s a cool place to hang out if you are a nature lover. You can also go fishing or rent a bike there to ride all the way down to the beautiful scene of Jamaica Bay. At the top of the hill you can see sections of Manhattan.
The unpaved section provides a nice hiking trail.
You should check it out.
Time To Be Awake
Park is nice, but mostly made up of trails. There are picnic tables at different parts of the trails and on the pier. The walk to the pier is a long one, so be prepared and have on comfortable shoes. Sneakers would be the best. Also, you can fish at the pier. Folks were catching mostly crabs- big ones! There is a paved road to the pier. Folks are walking and also riding bikes on this road. Some are riding widly. There needs to be bike lanes.
There are a lot of tall weeds and long trails with just nothing but grass, weeds and lots of rocks on the trails. You can see the water while walking on the trails. The breeze from the pier is great and the view is very nice. You can take some really nice photos in this place. You can bring your food, but there is no cooking on the grill allowed. You can drive your car only into the parking lot. You will then hqve to get out and walk the long trails.
They have portable bathrooms and a water foutain or two. So far the park is clean. They are still building up some more areas. The park closes at 8:30pm. They need to have park patrol because anyone can be hiding in those weeds and the trails are far from the entrance and so are many of the picnic tables. If someone is far inside that park and needs help, how will those who are at the entrance know? I don't really like this about the park.
They need to put a little playground in this park for the little kids. They need to have more to do than just walk the trails and ride bikes. They said no dogs are allowed in the park, yet some person had their dog right on top the picnic table. How filthy is that? No one told her to get that dog out of there. They need to enforce the rules and keep watch over what folks are doing in that park. If not, the park will become an eye sore and also very unsafe for folks.
Parents keep your kids close to you in this park because the trails can be deserted and who knows who is lurking in those bushes. I can't help think of Karena Vertrano and what happened to her, while she jogged along the trails in Spring Creek Park. Be Safe! Visit the park with your friends and family. Do not walk those trails alone!
Gerard Belvant
They have bikes available at this park to ride for free, yes it’s free for two hours what a great way to get around they also provide helmets for each rider, I don’t know if they have it all seasons but yay it’s cool for the summer
Alex Gerts
Nice for a bike ride, I would never Hike there, too many Tick warnings.
Rizwana Shaikh
With limited outdoor spaces in Brooklyn, this park is a "breath of fresh air". Get out there to run, bike, fish, picnic, take scroll or simply take in the sun. The possibilities are endless. Currently it is a road less traveled which I prefer.
Christine Obando
Very clean park. Staff are really welcoming and friendly. The park is so beautiful! Bike rentals are free they even have bikes for toddlers (3yrs old & up) with helmets just have to have your state ID/drivers license. Lots of walking/bike trails. Picnic tables. You cannot bbq but you can bring food already made, cooked, etc. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because a group of people doing a "rap video" were smoking and there were lots of kids around (including mine) riding bikes, scooters, running, playing etc. and I don't think thats appropriate in a family friendly park. Other than that, 5 stars.
Annette Webster
It a beautiful and relaxing place.
Yvonne Jean-Jerome
I visited for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised! I remember passing by on the Belt Parkway during my childhood and the stench! I am amazed at how this former garbage dump is repurposed and is now a place for safe bike riding and hiking. It is great to see steps being taken to clean up the city.
Darnell Thompson
Great place for biking, running or to go birding.

nice for a date but super empty
marcus henry
It is a small but great little quite park they have free bike rentals great trails and an amazing view outside of the city. The peeris grorgous. There are trails for walking and ridding bike. And a bench area where you can have a picnic or just a relaxing day
Curtis T
Just discovered this park and it's big and beautiful. Can't wait to do the trail again.
Dovon F
This park potential is so great. When they finish this park its going to knock your Sox off. Bring cool drinks and a sweat rag during the summer months because there's no shade other than a picnic table with an umbrella over it.
Leslye Dz
My new favorite go to park 😁👏🏼👏🏼Amazing I cant wait till they open the other side, absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! (They dont provide bikes for small children it seems they have ages from 7+ to ride bikes, be aware that there ARE hills so make sure they know how to slow down the bike while going down one.) …
K P
The police was patrolling every so often, which made me feel a bit more safer.
Blue Dogg
The park was awesome we road bikes walked around the park had some lunch altogether we had a good time
Joseph Jacobs
Vast park with trails and piers overlooking the Jamaica Bay. Largest state park in the city. Connections to the Shore Parkway path.
Maya T
Beautiful bring your family for a hike. Go for a run. Ride your bike or rent one for free for 1 hr. This place is awesome. Also you can fish on the pier.
Bella DeZON
The park picture is nice. But, WE NEVER GET TO GET IN THE PARK COZ GOGGLE direction wasn't giving the right track. We was driving around the area never end up in the park 😩🤣so we end up prospect park instead. …
Nina Dobris
Lovely park with nice trails for walking and biking. I like that they have spots with benches to sit, porta potties scattered around, a bike rental, and a mobile snack truck! Very clever.
Scott Laine
Such a wonderful park! We enjoyed several hours of hiking the various trails and enjoying the breeze by Jamaica Bay.
David Sommerville
Seriously one of the best public works projects in NYC in years, parking, paved and gravel paths, benches, umbrellas, bathroom (temp but clean) and many other features. Great for cycling.
D BG
Beautiful park for biking or walking. They also have picnic areas as well if you want to hang out there for a while.
Monserrat Salas
This park is new, so not overcrowded. Perfect for biking, hiking and picnics. They have tables, bathrooms (portable) and staff daily.
Douglas K
The park has a relatively level and smooth asphalt bike path in pristine condition and sheltered piers to rest at after riding. There are even elevated paths to use mountain bikes on.
Letty V.
I found it to be a Peaceful experience, Also enjoyed watching the wildlife, The trails are great for exercise and overall the park is clean as are the porter potty’s . The staff are well informed and patient especially during Covid-19 when People can be so impatient. Thank you to the Men and Woman who are doing such extraordinary work with the public.. Thank you from Bayridge Brooklyn
Shaneka Gapour
Great place for hiking, having a picnic, take the kids for a ride... i took a star off because it's not fully in operation I guess due to covid but it's somewhere you can relax and unwind and enjoy the view of the water.

Newest State Park has 407 acres and 10+ miles of hiking trails. Just finished the inaugural "First Day Hike". Lots of sky, fields, birds. Great start to 2020!

I love the hills and the way you can go for a walk or a bike ride. It is just a nice place and a beautiful view.

Great place for a family outing, bikes available to ride trails, nice scenery. Overall wonderful experience and will visit again.
Sheri Bailey
Beautiful pier and great trails suitable for the whole family! The breeze coming off the bay is amazing. Can’t wait to come back for the free bikes!
Paul Carson
I rode thru the park on opening day I didn't see too much to wow me. I guess I have to walk thru to enjoy the alleged scenic view. It was pretty clean. I noticed rental bikes and a West Indian food truck price $$$$$
Jocelyn Marie Cooper
Always a pleasure coming here!❤
Richard Chen
This is a wonderful state park newly opened only last year after decades of work. It's superb with a very large 407 acres just feet away from Brooklyn and Queens at their famously unexpected border with JFK's beautiful airplanes in the distance and on Jamaica Bay Refuge's idyllic placid shores. There're 2 piers, both newly built, a dozen miles of trails with terrific terrain, wonderfully designed landscaping, a truly rural feel despite being in the city, many dozens of picnic tables both unpainted and painted throughout, signage which is clear and hip, nice staff of about 6 who maintain the grounds, thoughtful banners which tell Shirley Chisolm's inspirational story, beautiful murals by a paved roadway leading thru for those not handling the gravel trails, fresh air by the bay, lots of bicycling rentals, crabbing off the pier (fishing is disallowed), and generally wonderful feel. There're ~100 parking spots in the lot at the Penn Ave portal (Exit 14) and just a dozen so at the Erskine St portal (Exit 15).
Evette Chico
I would give a 5 but instead of bathrooms, there are port-a-potties. Which are not wheelchair accessible. Otherwise we had a lovely time.
kane chow
Good place to bike and walk. But be very careful, there is alot of ticks in the park. Wear long pants and check legs for ticks!

Excellent park to hike, ride bike and most of all great place to pass time with the family. Most people were wearing their mask and kept their distance.
Rufina Aleyeva
Beautiful and clean! Get a bike for 2 hours for free! Check the schedule!

Take a ride or hike up to the top of Shirley Chisholm and seemingly step outside NYC. With an amazing 360 view of the city you see Jamaica bay to the south, JFK to the East, Brooklyn, Forest Hills, and all of Manhattan to the North, and the Verrazano Bridge to the west. With food and bike rentals, there’s something fun to do for the day without going too far. Great park for the BK/Queens area.
Amanda Persaud
Beautiful park and so much adventure for the children I absolutely love it and a plus is that there are no pets allowed Not everyone pick up their dogs poop and I for one don’t want to be stepping on poop while walking the trails and trying to relax, It’s a beautiful addition to Brooklyn ❤️
rolan nandlal
Very clean, wide bike paths, lots of benches and tables with umbrellas 🌂,awesome views, exciting hiking hills and big..love it …
B Young
A surprisingly quiet parking minutes from JFK. This park has wide hiking paths with lots of varying lengths that offer rather spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, JFK, and Manhattan's skyscrapers in the distance. On parts of a recent hike it didn't feel like I was in NYC any longer.
Cordell John
The trails allow you to have a scenic view of NYC Boroughs, the bikes are free to ride, there are seats to rest along the trails and the party spots with umbrellas and tables.
Rogue Uchiha
Nice secluded park, just be wary of the flying insects by the boat launch. Bring repellant
Nagesh Kabeera
This park is massively huge. Its is divided into two, separated by Jamaica Bay. The trail is comparatively long, winding , and some are uphill. To complete half will relatively be a good exercise. As spring start more people will flock this park to regenerate their bodies from the winter season and Covid 19 restrictions.
Destiny Morales
Great park for the kids and husband to go to. Lots to do and perfect in nice weather.

Had mixed feelings about visiting the Shirley Chisholm State Park given the land's former history as a landfill. The park is well done and is immensely needed as a place for physical activity given the hundreds of residential units being built near Gateway Center.
