Reviews of Robert H. Treman State Park
Olivia
Gorgeous trails, mildly manicured, easy to follow and near more wild trails if desired. Stunning foliage and waterfalls aplenty. Scenic areas easily accessible from each parking lot. I went from the main entrance/lower park onto the rim trail to upper park, which had the most gorgeous view of the tallest waterfall and stone paths near the end; then, back down via the gorge trail, which I think looking at the elevation maps (roughly accurate on the trailside) is the way to go (more up and down going there, then mostly down on the way back). Moderate difficulty hike. One water bottle was enough for me going light on a cool day. Chipmunks, squirrels present. Friday afternoon saw other hikers every 5-10 minutes or so.

Amazing park for one whole day. Beautiful trails (we did 3,4 km in one way and back 3,6 km). There where few spots were you can take a break near river. The Lucifer Falls are heartbreaking. In the end of our hiking we were swimming and jumping in clear, fresh and cold water). Here you can find also playground for kids, tabels for picnic, small cabins for staying few days. Highly recommend!!!

My friend and I visited in early June. We first stopped at the lower falls, took the gorge trail up to Lucifer falls and were not disappointed. The foliage was lush from rain and the trails were very well maintained. Note that this IS a challenging 2 miles with a good amount of elevation change. The views of Lucifer falls at the end of the trail are worth the hike.

This place is a total gem. We did the gorge trail then the rim trail. The hike was lovely but ohhh so many steps. I tracked the hike on my Apple Watch with GPS tracking and it calculated 1088 elevation total. The waterfalls at the end were absolutely gorgeous. If you wanted to just see the waterfalls just go to the top parking lot and hike downwards a slight bit. I hope to return!
Shimma
Beautiful park, the gorge trail is steep and somewhat difficult but worth it because of the waterfalls you'll see along the way. There were swarms of gnats today, yuck. Also disappointed that swimming was closed today. All in all it's a beautiful park to explore and a great workout.

Pretty and scenic trails. Trail is well marked and maintained. Wooden staircase is provided in most on steep inclines. Beautiful falls through out the trail. Trail is difficulty level medium.Park has an entrance fee of 9$. Lots of parking space Available. Restrooms are available on both end of the trails!

Getting close to the base of Lucifer Fall was the highlight but the fall with the swimming area was a close second. The hike circling around was a good 3.5 miles. The hike was moderately challenging as far as the normal person- there were some stairs at the end I heard quite a few people languish over. I had a great timw though and thought the hike was worthwhile for all the views along the way. Climbing my first fall in this state, all though small, was just the adrenaline rush I was looking for. Jumping in for a dip, even past season, was refreshing after working my way around from the lowerfall trail.

I have camped twice loving the sites I had. Not all site are shaded by trees. Swimming, great hiking, picnicking and waterfalls. The hike has many steps so it is challenging but worth every moment!
Tom Harris
Wonderful hike in a beautiful fall day! I hiked the full 5.25 miles. I started at the bottom of the gorge and took the gorge trail that leaves at the parking lot. I then came down the rim trail. The hike can be challenging at points, with a lot of stairs, and long steep up hills. Move slow or rest and you will be fine. Things even out ok. The trail leaves waters edge, then returns and there are many falls and swimming holes. It’s a beautiful hike. When nearing the top one sees many dramatic waterfalls and rock formations. Take some time to soak in the beauty of it all. This is one of my favorite hikes! Have fun!
Jham and Labo Trips
Nice and clean camping site! Campsites weren’t cramped, they were spacious enough. The staff were nice and friendly too. They got a bathroom / shower room which is maintained. There are nice trails around if you like hiking, and/or you can go to Lower Falls for swimming. We’ll come back here again!

Wow! What a beautiful surprise. This park is stunning. We parked in the upper lot and hiked to Lucifer Falls on the rim trail.. It was magical. The path is reminiscent of being inside a stone castle. The series of falls and pool were stunning. After, we drove to the lower parking lot and hiked to the lower falls.
Be aware that the hike from the lower lot is extremely steep. Both trails have many steps and inclines. We would have like to have hiked the entire trail round trip (4 miles ) but we were warned that due to the steepness of trail we should allocate about 4-5 hours. Sun sets early in the winter and we did not want to be on the trail after dark.
In season, there is a shuttle that runs between the upper and lower parking lots for those who want to hike the trail one way. If you take that option, hike from the upper lot down to the lower lot.
Bring water, dress in layers and wear hiking boots.
Melissa S.
I would wait to attend this park until after the trails are open. However, it was cool to see the snow spring meltdown today. I usually go in the summer when it is crowded. A lot of people go swimming in a water hole that has a diving board. The trails are shaded. There is definitely some elevation change, but the views are fantastic. I suggest you do not go wading in the stream off trail because my cousin and I did that, and we were COVERED IN HUNDREDS OF TINY LEECHES!!! Our fault for not following the rules. We did not get leeches in the regulated swimming hole, so that's safe.
Amal Ezzaki
It was one of my best experiences.
The park has everything you would look for for a gateway. We did rent one of the parks cabins which are equipped with a fridge and heater, ours was #13 by the creek.
The cabins were just 2 mins away from one of the falls !!,
I highly recommend this beautiful place as well as renting one of the park's cabins (they are way cheaper than a regular cabin somewhere else in ithaca )
Jane Zhao
Beautiful park with waterfalls and walking trail! It’s an amazing trail with the flowing river, bridges and stairs! A lot of surprises from each turn and overlook! It was a great family trip!
Richie Ahrens
Beautiful waterfalls and scenery!! We Took the Gorge trail and it is difficult and challenging at times, especially the beginning but I will say it was worth the views along the way.
Courtney C
We did the waterfall hike - starting from the upper parking. It’s probably only a 15 or 20 min walk to Lucifer falls. If you walk the gorge route it’s 250 stairs down, then 150 stairs back up the rim trail. The waterfall is lower flow now - still beautiful but a couple ppl missed it because it wasn’t as big as expected. We kept going on the gorge trail and it was nice. If you go the other direction from the main entrance, think it’s about 1.5- 2 hour full loop and the gorge walk seemed nice.
Ricky Hung
Wonderful nature scene! Worth to visit. Best scenes are upper part of the trails. If you don't want long walk, go to the upper park lot and walk down the stairs and return along the water. Be minded: water temperature is about 65=70F in summer, kind of chill to swim.
Diana Frederick
Swimming area is under excavation. Maybe a landslide over the winter? They're hoping to open July 1. Waterfall is small but pretty. If the swimming area was open, it would get 4 stars.
Marion NYC
This is an amazing state park! Lucifer waterfall despite the name is gorgeous! The hike from the lower parking lot is almost 2 miles. If you want to see most of the waterfalls without the hike then just drive up to the upper level parking lot. Most of the really nice waterfalls scenic hikes is from the top anyways. The hike from the lower level is nice but just trees mostly. The hike can be tough from the lower level but refreshing . Definitely check this park out for the hiking and swimming!

I had read quite a few recommendations for visiting this state park before we started our trip to the finger lakes region all the way from Northern Virginia and boy, oh boy, they couldn't have been anymore right on the dime. We started with Watkins Glen, peaked through Buttermilk Falls State Park and deserted at Robert Treman's. Make sure you park closer to the head of the falls where it starts. The best way to do it is search for Lucifer falls in Google maps. Gratification is quite instant and it soon dawns on you that the place in insane and continuously evolving. 2 miles one way. Plenty of parking. We enjoyed with our 6 year old who kept experimenting with flow currents. A hidden gem.
Amber Hawkins
Love love loved it!!!! Such amazing trails and waterfalls. Les at the visitors center COULD NOT have been nicer! Thank you for a great afternoon Robert H Treman State Park!
INeedALife
Definitely worth going to! I've gone twice -- once in the summer and just recently in the winter. In the winter be careful because the trails can be icy.
Carline Louis-Jacques
Beautiful, drop dead gorgeous scenic trails with lots of stops for breathtaking pictures. Lucifer Falls just makes you catch your breath to absorb its splendor. The trails are very challenging with lots of stair climbing. Not for the unfit unless you plan to take stops and take your time. Get there early as the trails become more crowded as the hours go by. Lots of shade to help minimize the summer heat, but don’t let that fool you. Bring lots of water and a snack can be enjoyed at many spots. Mine was right in front of Lucifer, thanks to my walking poles! Don’t forget your walking poles as they make the stair climbing easier. Fun hike alone or with your posse of friends and or family. Trails are very clean so It must mean we are doing our part to leave no trace! Stayed at the campsite in my RV. My site included electricity ( highly recommend) but more come w/o. Cabins are also provided . Nearby bathroom was cleaned often & grounds were well maintained. Overall I had a fantastic weekend.
carlaskis
This park was wonderful! It was only $9 parking fee and is good for other state parks you visit same day. We started at the bottom of the Rim Trail, went all the way up and then came down the Gorge Trail. Stunning scenery, waterfalls, fall foliage. A truly magnificent experience. There are quite a few steps, but don’t let that deter you, it is well worth the effort. It was a little over 4 miles round trip. Super nice trails! We loved the experience.
Richard Goyette
For our next camping we stayed at a state park with 8 waterfalls in it. So it was both a place to stay and our next hike. After a quick step of the tent we set out on the trails. We started with the Gorge Trail as I could see from the map it said steep cliff steps on the Rim Trial. I figured that the gorge trail would be easier but I was wrong which was evident at the top of the first 50 or so steps that start the trail. For beauty and grandure though it was the way to go. It goes up and down along the path acending 725ft and decending 311ft with markers every ¼ mile. You walk along wooded trails, earthen bridges and wood steps up the slopes. We also come across a glen that must be inhabited by elfs or spites as it looks like a well manicured grotto with holly ground cover. Then the landscape starts to change and you feel like you step into the Lord of the Rings. The area is called Lucifer falls (We couldn't find a reason it is called that but we tried googling). There are monolithic stairs and stone bridges around and over the falls that allow you to get close enough to the falls to see individual water droplets. This has to be the best falls on the east coast!! After the finish of the trail up at the old mill we started back along the Rim Trail. From that trail you can see the other side of Lucifer falls as well as from the bottom. The rest of the Rim trail is a more standard wooded hike except for the waterfall at the end which you can go swimming by in the summer (new ideas for trips with the kids!) By the time we got back it was dark and we had hiked another 5.8 miles. Luckily we were already at our campground and were able to hit the showers (Awesome hot water!!!) And have a meat and cheese dinner before passing out from exhaustion.

The park was very nice and the camping spots were generous in size. The park was clean. Couple small gripes are there seem to be very large tall completely dead trees in camp spots that look like widowmakers. Also, the shower temperature was probably only around 83-85 degrees. I realize that this is probably common with other state parks in NY here as two others I have been to were also not warm, but it is very unsatisfying if you had a long day.
vanessa norris
The coolest swimming spot I've ever been to! There is a diving board in front of a beautiful waterfall that you can swim right up to. Plenty of space for swimming. It was crowded but most people were not swimming, I assume because the water can be a bit frigid. We enjoyed it and found it refreshing.
ZY L
A well maintained state park with gorgeous gorge trail. We picked up the upper entrance and the loop is only about 1 mile.
Pratik Gaitonde
This place is a 10 mins drive from Ithaca downtown and has a beautiful waterfall. We visited this after the Buttermilk State Park and waterfall visit. The waterfall is beautiful and the main attraction was that you can get very close to the waterfall compared to buttermilk falls. This state park has its own trail but we did not get a chance to hike as it was raining when we reached. There are professional life guards monitoring so people can enjoy swimming in the water body. A very nice and a calm place to visit. Definitely recommend!
Kathleen Gebhard-Bilz
Our 2 sites were clean and spacious. The staff was friendly. The trails were maintained. We've been to the park many times and the scenery is wonderful and never gets boring. Lucifer Falls is spectacular!
Shan
Best Waterfall and state park in ithcha. Beautiful hike with moderate difficulty. There is a lower fall and higher fall so you can either start hiking from bottom to top or from top to bottom.
The swimming pool is major attraction too with nice cold water with a diving board which I think is the only one overthere.
Ken Potter
Great park with beautiful waterfalls and trails to hike… upper and lower park , walk the top to the bottom you don’t want to miss it… sites are good only max 30 amp service, faucets to get water to your holding tanks. Roads are rough and best so drive very slow. They real need to be repaired or resurfaced. Great playgrounds for the younger kids… swimming area with the waterfalls is memorable
Chris Mathews
Hike is moderate but fun overall and great views along the way especially just past peak leaf changing season
Paul Revier
The 6+ mile loop down and around the magnificent gorge at Treman State Park is one of the most exhilarating and enjoyable hikes in the Finger Lakes. It is a fine way to spend a day; bring a picknik, a bathing suit, and a good book, and spend an entire day in this gorgeous world of stone and moving water.
Tom rodriguez
Beautiful park. Amazing hiking. Worth the trip. It is a dog friendly park and they have swimming areas as well.
donald wilkinson
The Lower Falls are just beautiful and just a short walk from the parking lot on Park Rd. Then drive 3 miles to the Upper entrance to see the Mill and a waterfall behind it and then hike down to see Lucifer Falls -the Gorge trail was closed near the top of the falls, but the rim trail gives a great view of the waterfall.... worth the walk!
Kerrigan Millemaci
Beautiful gorge trail, bit steep for some, but did see all ages up there! A must see for sure!
Bryan Pawloski
Lucifer Falls was beautiful, and the hike was easy.
Camp ground was clean and the staff were friendly.
C KL
We came here last fall and the swimming area was closed. So we had to come back in the summer! It costs $9.00 (July 2021)... It was easy to find, easy to park, and we had fair to ok cell phone signal (definitely not 4or5g) in the main areas. There's places and things to do for everyone. We had a blast both times.
ethan Mayers
Absolutely beautiful park with great trails, camping, and swimming. If you're hiking, take the gorge trail up from the lower parking lot and come back via the rim trail. Camping is not yet offered during the winter but they are planning to do that at some point in the future. Stayed in a cabin and it was fantastic. Only 12 minutes tu Ithaca, and 30 minutes to the heart of the finger lakes wine country. Two great playgrounds (one for the public and one for the campers). Looking forward to going back!
Erin O'Brien
Beautiful hiking trail. A little hilly but great for dogs and kids. Incredible views, several waterfalls with access to them.
Marija Watson
Did the Ridge Trail today 5 miles with open back lots of stairs to start with but absolutely beautiful the closer you get to the top the more beautiful it is
Hannah
Gorge Trail to Lucifer Falls is incredible. A must see! Moderately difficult hike. 2.5 miles one way. We took the rim trail back which offered more incredible views. Lots of steps and uphill on both trails. 900'+ elevation gain.
Rich Ochs
This state park has always been one of my favorites just because of what it offers. Great hiking trails with great views and many waterfalls, camping, swimming near a large waterfall, and you can park at the top or the bottom.
Milagros Rodriguez
Amazing state park for hiking, stunning views, have 2 entrance...first one near the swimming area, second near the fall, there's challenging areas so explore with caution
Jen D
Beautiful place! The falls are lovely. The walk is about 3 miles long uphill in some parts.
Neha Wadehra
Very nice place for hiking. The 4 mile hike of gorge+rim trail makes your day
Guillermo D Jalil
This is the greatest swimming hole I ever visited. The beach doesn't compare to this place.
Glenn Harshman
Amazing hiking and great swimming hole. Well maintained abundant parking.
RD Chan
Great place to hike. Beautiful water falls. Bring your camera for some great shots.
Melissa Fraley
We had a nice visit to the park to see the falls. No lifeguards on duty the day we were there but looks like a great place to swim right by the falls. The park is beautiful, the waterfall was calming. I saw some people in the stream fishing and putting their feet in the water. Took a drive through the campground as well and looked like some nice sites.
Matt Keefe
A beautiful park that is well worth a long drive. The paths/stairs are impressive and convenient for the multiple hikes you can choose from throughout the park. The views are very nice. Our dog enjoyed it, too!
Ping Zhou
Wonderful hikes near downtown Ithaca. Definitely worth a visit when in the area.
Awilda Moncion
come and enjoy this beautiful organic place, here they do not allow loud music, it is a quiet environment and you will have a great time.
Adira Benner-Cuasay
Beautiful hiking trails and stunning waterfalls. It also has a lovely swimming hole and great scenery.
Lauren Gustin
This park is so gorgeous! And while you admire the landscape, you get a killer workout in too thanks to all the stairs! The trails are really well marked. You can see how they’re labeled in one of the pictures down below. It gives you all of the incline details and what the path copperhead will look like. I did the rim and the gorge trail. And I parked down at the lower falls. Once you walk that rim Trail up to the upper falls, you can take the gorge trail back down to the lower falls parking lot. There are facilities at both ends which is really nice and the upper falls had a vending machine too. There are not a lot of trails that kind of branch off so it’s easy to find your way. The trails are very clean and well-maintained. And all of the waterfalls and the landscape is so beautiful. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun place to explore! Happy hiking (:
Yefim Pechatnikov
We visited the park on beautiful October day when the fall foliage colors were at their peak. I believe on such a day the trail is accessible by people of really wide spectrum of abilities. Just make sure you start from the Upper entrance. This way you can take the scenic trail descending, and if not everybody wants to repeat the trail uphill, somebody from your party can quickly return to bring the car to the lower entrance. I believe the trail was one of the best trails of the kind I visited in my life.
Ed Gon
Great park, going down is a relatively easy hike… geeat views!
bobbie manns
Beautiful state park with a lot of available campsites. The walk to the falls and swimming/diving area was easy and paved. (Swimming closed due to environmental issues) beautiful falls and photo opportunities. We actually parked outside the state area and hiked a trail (six.mile trail) under 13 and into the state park area
Sheri Gerovac
It was a lot of fun at Robert Treman state park. The gorge trail was closed when I went but we did the rim trail and then went to the other side of the park to see the falls there. There were some mosquitos so bring bug spray if you go!
Horatio Rosa
Well maintained, clean campground. Staff is friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were clean, thank goodness 😅. The rim path was well marked, and easy to find and also one way only (although we ran into a family with directional problems 😂). The ascents were pretty easy, steps in many places, the views were pretty amazing. We took th gorge path back, and wow, beautiful things to see. Excellent maintenance on the both paths. Lots of places to take pics,
dani White
This state park was amazing. All the trails were ipen and they all were breathtaking, I went on Saturday 11/7/20 with my 12 year old daughter we enjoyed every inches of the park. The weather was perfect, in the 70s it was not crowded. We only paid 8 dollars for parking.
Ryan Ireland
Great state park with a world famous swimming hole. There are plenty of trails to hike if it is not quite swimming season yet. The whole place is very picturesque. And the folks who work here are very friendly. Bring a picnic and enjoy a fun filled day.
Marcie McDougal-Domroes
I loved this because the parking lot was close to a playground and there were many picnic tables in shaded area on way to swimming area. The swimming area had a lifeguard and was roped off into different sections the area with a diving board was 15 ft deep and you could swim over and sit underneath a little waterfall area. There were no lockers so people just found spots on the grass to put their bags or coolers or picnic blankets. There was a public restroom.
Keith Rowe
Truly a awesome place. It's almost like Watkins Glen but with natural pools from the Gorges you can swim in. The Rim trail and Gorge trail was amazing. Carrying water is a must!!! You'll appreciate the views for your efforts.
Wagner Silva
A very beautiful park, trails with easy access, but that requires a little preparation to climb the steepest points. Super positive point and that in this pandemic moment people were respecting the use of a mask and distance, unlike other parks that I visited this month. I camped in the new part that despite not having trees guaranteed me a beautiful starry sky. I will certainly return.
Justin Hayworth
Ithaca’s finest!
In a town full of beautiful nature and gorgeous gorges, Robert H Treman State Park stands tall above all as the best of the bunch.
Michelle Pfann
One of our favorite places in Ithaca - highly recommend the upper falls/ old mill, and would suggest starting with the rim trail, then looping back via the gorge trail. We got up early so that we could go before we had to leave for the airport this afternoon.
Kim Taylor
One of the most beautiful parks I've been to. Luscious green forest and beautiful waterfalls. The trails are a little bit more on the difficult level but we'll worth it. Just make sure you bring plenty of water to drink.
John Lamb
Comparable to Watkins Glen, but probably not as crowded. 8$ car entry fee with clean bathrooms at the parking lots. Due to covid, it is a loop trail starting at the rim trail and ending at the Gorge trail. Many small waterfalls, great views at the top and definitely a better hike than Taughanock.
Eric Allan
Gorgeous (pun-intended) spot to marvel at the rocks and waterfalls. The gorge trail is incredible, with several beautiful cascades. Lower portion features camping, swimming and expansive day-use areas. During Covid, the Gorge and Rim trails are one-way only.
Daniel Colucci
If you've never been here, the trails are currently one way. I parked, walked up the short road directly to the waterfalls, and walked across the bridge to get onto a trail. The Rim Trail starts behind Cabin 9, and from that trail you can access the Gorge Trail. Some parts are a steep incline or decline, so bring good shoes and a good amount of water. Very beautiful and peaceful place, make sure you look around because a waterfall or two is just off the main trail. They offer vending machines, but they are cash only.j
Black Beauty
This park was amazingly breathtaking. I went on saturday november 7, perfect weather. It was not crowded the trails were beautiful. FYI if you have bad knees, this may not be for you. Some areas of the trails are rigorous may be a little scary for some due to the height of the trails. I was a little scared but it was worth it. Would definitely go back. You dont have to pay to get in only for parking which is $8.00.
Todd Conley
Only had one day here . We will come back for a longer stay. Excellent and spacious place. Very scenic as well with plenty of hiking available
Lei Yin Mon
One of the best State Parks in upstate NY. The rim trail is 2.5miles to upper park and the Gorge trail to lower parking lot is 2 miles. It's the most beautiful during the fall. No swimming is allowed during Covid.
Raven Black
This is a super great place to bring the kids and your own inner kid, the driving board is super cool and the guards are very observant. There are picnic tables and lots of shade, the woodsy feel of being there is super refreshing. The water is cold but the falls are absolutely beautiful to look at. It’s a great photography place. There are some nice camp sites. If you are 62 or older and have a valid NY drivers license you can get your whole family in for free. Super great place to visit.
Jerry Reptak
One of the better parks in the area. The waterfall is probably the most impressive and you can walk along the stream after the waterfall. During covid, the trails are one way. Start in the upper parking lot. If you want a shorter hike, take the gorge trail and then after lucifer falls there is a bridge that takes you to the rim trail back to the upper lot. If you want something longer, keep going down the gorge trail, it drops you off at the south lot, so then you'll either have to take the rim trail back or get someone to pick you up. If you're doing the gorge trail after the fall, feel free to jump off the path and take a scenic walk along the stream
Just Jerk
This is a beautiful park that doesn't have a long walk to see most of the falls if you park at the upper parking lot. We did the gorge trail to the upper falls and walked back down the rim trail. I prefer this way so you are walking and seeing the waterfalls straight on. The hike wasn't that difficult.
Jessica Casillo' Williams
Perfect for swimming! Love this area! A lot more to the park then I thought and will have to go back. Weekdays are less crowded, but if you like people watching and crowds, weekends are for you! It's fun to see who will jump off the diving board. Lots of other parks close too, so you can park jump all day! If your looking to swim all day and relax, this is one of the spots to do it!
Shark Man
Our family camps A LOT around NYS, and this campground, by far, was our least favorite. We agree with the other reviews of the campground, that the electric sites are small, awkward to park and level, and the electrical boxes are too far from the camper. We had site #4, and there was literally a tree in the middle of the parking area, so we had to basically only use half of the site. Luckily, we had the local Apple Festival to attend in Ithaca. There is a very nice playground that was enjoyed by the kids in the park.
That being said, the trails and waterfalls in the park are beautiful. The bathrooms were well maintained and clean.
We all agreed that we would not return to this campground. It was not a horrible experience, just not as good as most for our family.
Date of experience: September 2019
Darren Morizet
Here is some candid feedback about the park. Camping areas are really not that great at this park unless you like seeing your neighbors. Most of the camping areas are open to one another. There are a few that have a little privacy but not much . The newly opened camping areas don’t have photos yet but they have full sun and are basically in a field. Not my idea of camping in a forest. The park it self and hike is fantastic. Tip.... take gorge trail for a more scenic hike that is much easier than Rim trail from the bottom. We took the Gorge all the way to the top park and then Rim trail from the top back down. The views are great and the climb can be a little challenging if you are not in shape. Park is well maintained and they are in the process of adding steps where there are steep climbs.
Swimming was closed during the time we were there but it looks like it would have been a lot of fun.
Bathrooms and showers where clean and had hot water!!!
Definitely would visit again but my choose to camp elsewhere.
Volkan Mihcakan
So many words have come to my mind to describe this hidden paradise which may make you speechless. Unbelievably amazing and gorgeous. Wonderful scenic place where you can enjoy the nature at its best.
A natural pool under a waterfall is a perfect relief after hiking on the breathtaking trails.
Make sure you experience this miracle of the nature at least once in your life. You won't be regretful.
Fish G
Nice. Walked Gorge Trail both ways - "Moderate" difficulty given number of steps. August water levels were fine but would be even better with higher water levels (early season of port rainfall).
P.S. Garmin GPS often seems to find peculiar routings at times - this time from Ithaca - seems much more straight forward looking at Google Maps.

Waterfalls, woods, stone steps, camping, cabins, swimming under a waterfall. This is an outstanding place to visit. There is plenty of space for having a picnic. The Gorge Trail was closed when I was there but it looks like it would be an excellent walk that leads you close to the waterfalls and the creek. The Rim Trail was really cool although it was very crowded in both directions. The old mill building by the upper falls is definitely worth checking out. If the Gorge Trail is closed you can make a nice loop by doing the Rim Trail in one direction and the Finger Lakes Trail in the other direction. Just make sure you have a map so you can navigate between the Finger Lakes Trail and the campground area.

Well maintained camp grounds and trails. Beautiful scenery.
Campsite #69 does occasionally got a waft of sewage from the Camper Disposal across the road, when campers used it, but it didn't truly affect our stay.

We initially wanted to swim at Buttermilk Falls but we were told that the swimming hole was closed for the season so we decided to come here. It was a little busy around lunchtime but most people were practicing social distancing. The water was a balmy 59 degrees. The kids loved jumping off the diving board. A cool place to check out especially with kids.

We spent two nights camping at Robert H. Treman State Park. The campground has an area with wooded sites, an area with sites in a large field (with hookups for RVs), and an area for the cabins (which looked very cool). All sites have fire rings and a picnic table. There are also flush toilets and free showers; these facilities were well-maintained and clean. We stayed in site 35 which is a wooded site located at the end of a loop. It was one of the larger, more private sites; reserve it if it is available.
The park contains nine miles of hiking trails. We hiked the Gorge Trail (2.12 miles) with a return on the Rim Trail (2.09 miles) to create a loop from the campground. The hike took us alongside the gorge of Enfield Glen and past twelve waterfalls. The route was a lot of up and down with terrain through wooded areas as well as on rocks next to the water. However, the stunning views and its variety did not disappoint. Unfortunately the swimming area was closed due to flooding but it would be a perfect ending to this hike on a warm summer day.
Overall, this park was great. The size was just right with on-site access to hiking and swimming. The nearby amenities of downtown Ithaca was a bonus!
Jay Ruderalis
I Hiked the part of the rim trail to the big water falls and back. Well made and marked trails, some steep climes going up stream to top of falls. Obviously well worth it.

We spent a day at Robert Treman State Park and could have spend an entire weekend. The kids swam in the swimming area, which for people with little ones, they only allow coast guard approved floatation devices, so no arm floaties allowed. My kids are older, but the lifeguards did yell at others. There are ALOT of trails, we only managed to walk up one, but the trails had fences, and stairs, which made it easy to walk on. Definitely consider spending a weekend here with the family.

This place is simply beautiful!! After reading reviews on Trip Advisor, I decided to walk up the Rim Trail and back to the campsite via the Gorge Trail. I had 2 50lb dogs with me. We also started just prior to 9AM. The Rim Trail is mostly like walking along a creek in the woods. The upper portion of the trail features a lot of steep stairs and beautiful views of the falls. Both dogs enjoyed the fresh water breaks along the way. The Gorge Trial features a lot of gorgeous rock, bridges, and a closer interaction with the water. It takes about 2 hours, with a few breaks, to complete both trails. If you have limited time, park at the top and do the Upper
Falls.
As far as the campsite I booked, I was a bit disappointed. Through no fault of the park. The site, E1 had electric, but was too shallow to park my 23 foot RV. It was also hard to tie the dogs up as the road was so close and it is a completely stone site. I would book at the park again just not that site.
Margot Laskowska
Amazing gorge with great trails, we did only the short loop. We visited the park on Wednesday, saw just a few people, it was very pleasant, good workout going up the stairs on the Rim trail.
Keith Roussel
It's no Watkins Glen but absolutely worth a visit if you are in the area. Start at the bottom and hike up. Doing so will ensure that you have the best view of each waterfall as your are hiking to it. The first 3/4 of the trek from the bottom is rather uneventful, but it takes a drastic turn as you near the top that makes it worth the effort. Be careful on the muddy steps. I slipped on one and came away with a nasty bruise. Don't be afraid to occasionally wander off the beaten track because it will truly impress at times. I hiked up through the canyon and then took the rim trail back down. This was a mistake as the rim trail was rather dull with the exception one decent viewing point. I would have preferred to hike back down through the canyon. Bring water with you.

Beautiful state park minutes away from Ithaca. Very popular for diving and swimming (until September mostly). We went camping (tents) and loved it. For camping, just so you know the "new loop" (sites 50s, 60s etc) is in a wide open field. Ok for trailers, not so okay for tents. Campground firewood is slightly pricey BUT the quality and quantity evens everything out. Lot of water spigots all around the campsites. Enjoy the park whether it's for a day trip or longer

Spectacular park! ... but know there is a lot of stairs.
We started at the upper end near the old mill and walked the gorge to Lucifer Falls then crossed the bridge and took the rim trail back to the old mill area. You climb about 200ft up via stairs so be prepared. The views are worth it!

Since we visited this place almost the end of August the water was a little cold but place is sooooo beautiful. We enjoyed spending time her, picnic, hiking, swimming and everything. Our kids were thrilled. I can’t wait to go back there next summer ❤️

Another great State Park for hiking and this one just so happens to have a swimming area that is very popular on a hot day. Even though the amount of vehicles parked don't always mean it's those at the pool, it could be some hikers as well. But when the temperature heats up you can count on the cars being there for the swimming area. As for the hiking here, it's also a very good trail with areas to stop and cool off in if need be. So definitely wear some breathable shorts or something that dries quick so you can take advantage of this. Learned that the hard way. Watching everyone else cooling off during a hike is never fun. But if you want the hike to be slightly easier, I'd say start out on the trail the side the office is on. If you start out on the other end, be prepared to climb the steep stairs and hills rather than coming down them. It's much easier coming down them. Be safe and ENJOY!!!

A beautiful park! There was a fee to get in, but it was reasonable and good for the day. I hiked the Rim Trail and it was beautiful and we'll maintained. It was a good work out but not very difficult. Swimming is closed due to COVID and masks are suggested in more congested areas. The trail wasn't crowded and the scenery is so nice. Great experience!

Another feather in the hat is this state park in the upstate NY. Beautiful park with amazing lush greens and peaks surrounded with tall trees. Wonderful fall in the center for the park. What I felt is it has to be little more specific on mentioning the directions of the trails and fall. They did well by mentioning the danger zone and the prohibit areas but no sign of north or south kind of guiding signs which take us to different trails. Only the locals or people who visited often may know the direction easily but people like us, the first timers are little confused. Also the rest rooms nears the fall were closed. Over all it is an awesome place to be with family and children.

This park and Lucifer Falls within are stunning. There is a gorge and rim trail for a good hike and it's really well laid out. Walkways can be slippery and some spots were a little perilous so proper footwear is a must. Truly a stunning display by mother nature.
Amber Ferger
What an awesome park for hiking! We went in the beginning of January so many of the main trails were closed (it was super icy), but you can get from the overlook to the lower falls by taking the finger lakes trail off of the gorge trail. A little bit longer of a hike, but not as crowded (we didn't see anyone). Definitely bring some hiking shoes because the trails are steep and slippery!
Kelly Hanson
Beautifully kept campground. The cabins are sweet! Best cabin is # 8 - overlooking the creek. 2 Big playgrounds for kids, need ce showers and restrooms. The swimming are is great for kids and adults. The hke to Lucifer Falls is 2 hours uphill from the lower parking area but worth it. Take water!
skijunky136
Pictures don't do this place justice, the falls and the gorge are breathtaking. We went on a cooler cloudy day and it was almost empty which was great. The falls section was steep but not difficult and there were plenty of great spots for pictures. A loop of the upper gorge section took us just over an hour to walk at a leisurely pace with plenty of stops for pictures. If you're in the area and you want to see falls this park is great.
Bud Chell
We loved this park. The campsite for our popup was large, level, shaded, and had electric, but no water. The bathroom and showers were fine; not 5 star, but clean and well maintained. The gorge hike was awesome and we walked past several waterfalls. We came after Labor Day so swimming at the Lower Falls had ended for the season, but looked like fun. We could have spent more time here exploring, and we hope to come back.
Anna P
My favorite place to go for a nice walk, pictures, and even just a look around. I can’t wait for more of the trails to open back up when it gets warm
Steffryz
Small but still amazing. You can camp here or rent cabins right by the falls. During tbe summer you can swim here. Definitely recommend
Patricia Ward
What a beautiful hike! It's like a scene straight out of a movie like Indiana Jones! Beautiful water falls. You can swim in the water, just remember to wear a bathing suit and bring water shoes for the rocky water areas. A definite must see!
Belle Ange
Beautiful park, but it’s a good hike to get to the big waterfall. My friend and went there for a hike and it started raining while we were on the way...we still managed to make it there anyway. Definitely looks beautiful, but I imagine I looks better when the weather is nicer.
Brian West
Great dog friendly, one way (covid rules), round trip hike about 300 feet down and 300 feet back up stone steps (the shorter version) with nice views of Lucifer falls.
Nicole Mark
Trail made me cry, but was worth the hike. Lots of steps and steep climbs. Get there early on weekends, parking gets full. It cost $8 to park but is for all day. We took the trail and saw gorgeous waterfalls including lucifers falls. Dont skip the one behind the old mill
Efrat Petel
One of the best trails for a great day of hiking
Sandy Bailey
Omg this place was amazing. I went with my boyfriend and our 3 year old and we all had an amazing time. My son loved going right up underneath the waterfall and being able to play in the water. The hiking was fairly easy for our son also!
Shane Haskins
What an amazing time my wife and I had and the Lucifer Falls were breathtaking. First trip definitely won't be our last. Also included are more photos from October 2020 fall time

This park is great! My family and I loved walking on some of the trails. It gave us a good workout with some of those steep stairs, but was well worth it for the views. We started on the Gorge Trail from our parting lot and followed it down till we took the bridge over to get on the Rim Trail. It was only around 3 miles total, but it took us 3 hours to walk it. We did have 3 small kids though and stopped a few times for the views and a snack. The only complaint I would have is that some parts of the trail are eroding away and are unsafe. Its hard to "stay away from the edge" when its all edge is some spots and there is only room for 1 foot at a time. This was only is a few spots though and we kept a hand on our kids at all times while crossing it. I wouldnt suggest the trails to people with "strong-willed" children. Unless safety isn't your biggest concern. Thankfully our children stayed next to us so if they tripped over a root or rock we were their to catch them.
The swimming area is really nice, but I read once that you can get leaches from the waterfall. 😬 No one went near that though and the water in the area we could swim in got pretty deep. The kids even found a salamander and set it down by a rock away from the people so it wouldnt get stepped on. Its a wonderful family fun park and we will definitely be going back!

A magical place in the center of New York. I've been going since a young age and I'm always amazed by the beauty of this place. Trials are an intricate work of stonework that are constantly maintained. Short hikes on Long hikes are possible.
Tamiko Toland
One of my favorite spots in the area. Lucifer Falls is amazing. I regularly hike or run the entire rim trail/gorge trail loop. It can get crowded during the summer weekends but it's a refuge early in the morning.
With COVID, you need to bring a mask in case you come across others and can't distance. It's one way up the rim and down the gorge for now.
The trails do close when it gets icy, so check if you're planning coming late in the season or early spring.
Christopher Nazelrod
Love the diving board into the base of the falls. Water is on the cooler side, but on 85+ degree days, it is refreshing.
I actually lost my Apple Watch when I jumped off the diving board. Luckily a lifeguard went in later dived, and found it for me. Lesson learned, take off your watch before jumping in.
Hiked the gorge trail and rim trail here. Trails are scenic and give good views of several waterfalls.
No Name
Haven’t been here since I was a kid but everything was just as I remembered it if not even better. Gathered with friends at the upper Treman grill area and enjoyed our lunch together then hiked the falls loop. On return we toured the amazingly well preserved/restored mill. Even better than when I was a child as I could more thoroughly appreciate the design and construction now. I do hope they are able to install some sort of fire suppression system in the old mill as the ancient wood construction looks incredibly vulnerable to nature, defect or vandalism currently. Great spot, cannot wait to visit again.
Kari Keener
This is a gem of a park. It features a beautiful gorge trail and several waterfalls, most notably Lucifer Falls. In the summer you can hike through the gorge; in winter part if the rim trail is open, and you can get a partial view of Lucifer Falls. I hiked there recently during a snow fall, and it was absolutely gorgeous!
Caitlin Hart
This is my favorite New York state park, possibly my favorite park anywhere. My wife & I got married here; we camp & hike here every summer. The trails are well kept and naturally beautiful. The campsites are also well kept, typically well spaced, the shower house is always in good order. The lower north shelter is gorgeous. The park staff are friendly and helpful. The park is right outside Ithaca so you can run out to the store or for dinner if you're camping, or you can stay in a hotel and hike for the day. It's nearby to other state parks as well. I've never been disappointed by a trip here.
Todd Weidenhammer
We walked the top of Gorge Trail to Lucifer Falls. It is something to see. The whole walk is the definition of BEAUTIFUL
Amanda K
The park itself is wonderful. Beautiful walking trails, waterfalls and a natural swimming area. The playgrounds are better than most we’ve seen.
Electric campsites 1-6 are set up top of a hill which isn't apparent until you arrive. We stayed in campsite 4 with our 27’ camper. I have a few things to pick with our campsite. There is a tree in the middle of the campsite which makes it very difficult to park. We had to rest the rear jack on a log in order for our slide out to clear the tree. It’s obnoxious really. There are also no water spickets up top of the hill, yet the lower campsites with electric have them near by. Not really fair in my opinion.
My advice would be to camp in electric sites 7-11 if you can. You won’t have to deal with the stress of a tree in the middle of your site. You won’t have to hall your camper up a sketchy hill and you’ll get to enjoy the luxury of water fill-ups.
Hank Chang
A large state park, with multiple waterfalls and a swimming hole close to the end of the lower layer area. There's a Gorge Trail and a rim trail, each take you around different sides and have different views of the water and the water falls within the park. Is a few miles on the trail each way so you need to make sure you have enough stamina to get through all the stairs and slopes. There are a couple of areas where you can get closer to the river and weighed in some of the shallow water, where other areas are steep and have waterfalls. Know that you should be careful of animals on the path, we saw deer, snakes, mice, chipmunks, fish and frogs. While they have distancing signs up, not everybody adheres to that and some of the areas are quite narrow. There's also some portions of the gorge path that are still under construction so they are narrow and slick, particularly after a rain or snow.

INCREDIBLE !! Huge swimming area with a diving board ! So many waterfalls. Highly recommend
Bryan Burrell
This is a rare find and highlights the beauty of God's creation. The Falls are amazing some of them stunning. Steps going up are challenging what you really feel great when you complete the hike. You can't go wrong with this hike. Do it during the week rather than on the weekend because it gets really busy.
Keegan Foose
Beautiful views, trail is in great condition, and many places to stop off and eat at. Very popular park though so you lose a little of the wilderness feel here.
Mijo
Not an easy hike. But the Lucifer falls at the end are every bit worth it. Don't worry, you can still see it without a hike - just drive up to the upper park. But if you do hike and want the full experience, ascend on the gorge trail and descend by the rim trail.
Florida Sailor
I grew up taking family vacations here in the 50s and 60s and have many fond memories. I recently returned for the first time since 1969 and found that little has changed, which was a very welcomed surprise. The original sites are small by today's standards as most people used tents at the time but they have also expanded a large area to accommodate large RVs. The cabins, built in the 30s, look exactly the same, until you see the insides which have been remodeled rustic style, although beautifully done.
There is an amazing swimming area built at the bottom of a georgous falls, and dammed to create a very large swimming area. The swim area contains a large amount of stone work creating a natural appearance that's as nice to see as it is to use.
Then there are two trails, one on each side of the gorge, that follow the stream up through the gorge. One is mostly dirt with some steps in the steeper areas while the other is done almost completely in masonry and stone work. Absolutely beautiful! Words and pictures truly don't do justice to this entire park.
If you're ever close, do yourself a huge favor and visit, even if just for the day. You won't be disappointed.
This picture was taken before they replaced the dam to fill for the summer.

Truly Treman-dous!
Lower Treman:
A clean stream fed waterfall of good size which you can swim right next to! And a surrounding natural pool you can springboard into! All while under the watchful eye of diligent lifeguards! And nearby washrooms and changerooms with showers! All for an eight dollars parking fee (the receipt for which also lets you park at Upper Treman and Watkins Glen, etc on the same day)!
How many places in our corner of the world are like that?
Upper Treman:
An old mill at the parking area and an incredible series of falls and pools of water while hiking along the gorge walls and then the majestic Lucifer Falls.
Tip 1: If you can time your visit to arrive a day or so after some good summer rains then you will enjoy significantly better water flows at the falls.
Tip 2: I didn't catch her name but there is a blonde with blue eyes in the park office who is super nice and can tell you all about the Finger Lakes wine trail.
Tip 3: If you like spending time outdoors then plan ahead for a whole day here.
Thank you NY State Parks and all the volunteers through history who have made this available for outdoors enthusiasts to enjoy!
Nikhil Jain
We did the gorge trail till the base of stairs and returned via the rim trail. Beautiful place. Lucifer falls are nice too.
Patti (Pattinys)
This is another larger state park and has both an upper and lower portion. There are numerous trails that are maintained. The Gorge Trial is closed during the late fall and winter months due to safety concerns. There are camping sites and day use picnic areas with grills and tables. This park connects with the Finger Lake Trail which offers you miles and miles of scenic hiking.
Mihai Pistol
Took the Rim trail for an in and out hike. It would have been nicer if the Gorge trail was open but the overall trip was very lovely, aside from being packed with people. Will come back earlier next time.
Kristy Broughton
Nice campground nice hiking trails beautiful waterfalls clean bathrooms
Close to other waterfalls in the area

We visited Robert H Treman State Park after we went to Watkins Glen State Park and in our opinion this park was far better. It wasn't as crowded to there was plenty of photo opportunities, and you were able to walk around with ease without having to worry about bumping into anyone. The two falls we saw were absolutely beautiful! They were each located on each side of the park, with a good hiking trail in between. Beautiful park, nice for picnics, hiking, photography and even camping!
K T
Breathtaking! We parked at the upper parking and took the rim trail till it met with the gorge trail (at the bridge turn left) and headed back. Took us about an hour with lots of time for photos. The rim trail is a bit steep at times. Beautiful views of Lucifer falls! And it has a lot of stairs (but better to do those going down!). The gorge trail has fewer wooden stairs up and the rest is fairly easy going - get very close to the falls! Highly recommend!

The waterfalls are a treat to the eyes. Nature lovers, pack your gear to visit this place
GolfCrusade DotCom
Walking this gorge is half Watkins Glen, half Machu Pichu. Walkways are carved into the cliffs with little room to spare. Waterfalls are excellent and smaller crowds than the aforementioned Watkins Glen park allow you to enjoy it a little more or capture photos sans people if that’s your goal. State park admission at one park is good at all of them same day, so do a double with another nearby park if able.
Samantha
This hike is stunning. Pretty long to hike the whole thing. Maybe around 5 miles. It's definitely moderate. So if you haven't been hiking, keep moving or you might cramp. The swimming here is stunning so definitely a must try if you haven't swam in a natural pool before.
Steve Saggese
Absolutely wonderful trail. Has inclines and declines, almost all with steps. Trail goes above creek along top of gorge and also dips down along the water. Great views of falls, gorge walls, woods and water. The trail is roughly a bit more than 2 miles and there are a couple routes. One vantage point has great views. The park itself has an upper and lower and the gorge trail connects the two. Well kept grounds with many improvements. Picnic areas, newer playground, lots of parking, camping and swimming. Just a couple miles from Ithaca. A must visit!
Avinash A.
My wife and I were here for the weekend and this was such a Mind blowing experience - The serene jaw dropping views are to kill for. Took the Upper Parking lot --> Gorge trail and the short loop to the Rim trail for the awesome Lucifer falls view up top. The Climb is tough! No two ways about it but it is rewarding in the end.
Nominal parking fees at the Entry .. the good part is that the ticket is valid through the day at any state park in the area.
In our view, this hidden gem is better than the Watkins Glen experience.
elizabethany ploger
Incredible views on the hike, they felt unreal. We also camped here. Generator hours are limited, but everyone nearby was kind and helpful and facilities were clean. Wish there was a little more privacy.
Nora Venezky
Great camping and even better hiking, so many amazing waterfalls!
Olga Kovalenko
Beautiful waterfall and challenging hiking trail. Great place!
Shawn Owens
Did the whole loop from the bottom. Took a little over two hours. Fairly easy hike with some amazing views and scenery!

Beautiful! Clean and fun for all ages. We celebrated a family get together that was well overdue this week and it was the perfect spot!
BIGSQUEEZER
Started at the lower park entrance took the Rim trail to the upper entrance and the Gorge trail back. Beautiful views and amazing hike. Highly recommend to anyone looking for some exercise and some awesome views. 10/10

This is a gorgeous park with plenty of areas to visit. The hiking paths on the rim trail & gorge trail are fantastic, with beautiful views. The swimming area is so unique! The water was frigid, and it was a bit crowded (not surprising for Labor Day Weekend). But the view!!! The waterfall with the diving board right next to it makes you feel like a cliff diver! The bottom of the swimming area is a bit rocky in spots, so you might want water shoes, but we handled it barefoot.
Tom Hertz
Born and raised in Ithaca, somehow never hiked the Rim Trail which has amazing views. Out via Rim Trail, back via Gorge Trail is the perfect loop. Makes way more sense than hiking from Upper to Lower.
David S
Go to the lower falls to swim, then go to the upper falls to walk the gorge trail. If you’re comparing against Watkins Glen... Watkins Glen is better for sight seeing ;)
Rossanne K
Very nice park. We saw Lucifer Falls - lots of steps to get there, so you get a great workout if you're up for it. I wish we had more time to explore the whole park.
JUSTINE SOTO
Absolutely beautiful hike!! Its a must see. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because the steep hike can be difficult in some spots with no tree coverage. The sun may beat the hell out of you. If you with stand it, try it! It’s worth it!
rachelle primes
Husband and I decided to do a over night getaway and was well worth it. We stopped at local winery for a wine slushy which taste great. Once we arrived at Treman State park we paid the entry fee and the falls were beautiful we even walked the trails and I used mustles I didn't know exsisted lol.
Wanda Liz
Great Park with BEAUTIFUL waterfalls and trails to hike in the upper and lower park. 🥰 …
Will V
This is one of the best NY state parks I've been to. My only complaint is lack of parking especially since it can be quite busy.
The river has many falls and ponds to relax in and the trail has a nice amount of climbing up and going down for a good workout. I'll be coming here every summer.
Ryan T
Beautiful views and trails. They are nicely taken care of. The Gorge Trail is gorge-ous and well worth the trip.
Scott Bruinooge
Awesome hike today from the upper area, so many falls views and a stunning view of Lucifer Falls at the very top of the gorge trail dont miss it!! Such nice mix of friendly people on the trails and not too crowded.
Amy Lynn
The gorge hike is absolutely breath taking. It is a moderate hike with lots of steps. I am giving 4 stars because the swimming area is closed until July 1. They have released the water from the dam to do maintenance.
Linda Caswell
Beautiful lots of really nice stone bridges & walkways lots of stairs .beautiful views .awesome park there is a place to swim .closed when we where there .did wade in water down stream we had ages 10 to 55 in our group we all loved the walk .
Carla Rupp
Waterfalls are stunning!! Simply beautiful. Full of surprises. Our friend Carol took us here. It's so gorgeous. Great hiking.
Keli Johnston
This swimming hole at Enfield Falls inside Robert H. Treman State Park (past the back parking lot!) was amazing! The water at the end of the fall was very deep, untouchable actually, but incredible! Hope you can swim! Masks required. Lifeguards on duty. There's also a (much colder) section where you can touch bottom for the kiddos. Enjoy & bee safe!
Adriana Tejada
I could said that the path to the falls was pretty amazing and will think that are better than the watkins glen state park falls
Randy W
Wonderful park with trails and an amazing waterfall.
There's also a great place to swim at the base of one of the fall. Camp and picnic areas are clean
Brett Burr
Great hike!! Better than expected for sure. Lots of up and down terrain, beautiful falls, some of the best in the area and a gorgeous swimming hole.
Megan Jumper
Gorgeous! The trail is steep and a lot of stairs, but well worth it for the gorge views!😍 …
Yoke Ng
Nice camping site New York State Park with 2 miles hiking trails, you can see the beautiful water falls on trails and also it has a cool swimming pool in the park.
M Coyle
One of the most beautiful parks in NYS. The campgrounds are great as well. The drawback is the noise from the nearby highway at night. It’s not the Adirondacks, but worth it for the hike and falls.
roger s
This is a beautiful park, nice hiking, scenic, easy trails to follow without getting lost. There is a large parking lot and bathrooms at the park office.
Just keep in mind that this is not an especially difficult hike and I think the hiking trails are closed in the winter.
Pam
Two waterfalls in this park. One is a nice little ice cold swimming pool and the other is very impressive.
Jennifer Tang
Since everyone is talking about the state park itself, I’m going to comment on the cabin since we stayed here for the weekend.
To be honest, I kept my standards really low and was somewhat dreading it, but I was very surprised by how well kept everything was.
The cabin is pretty much what you see and what you get from their stock image online. The mattress is covered in this waterproof stiff material, so you wouldn’t have to worry about the bed being damp or being infested with bedbugs.
The fridge is in great condition and it’s clean. Plenty of outlets too although I’d definitely bring a power strip.
As for the bathrooms, I’m surprised again because I thought it’d be downright disgusting, but it’s so clean and doesn’t smell of anything funky. Unfortunately there’s only one communal shower facility which is quite a long walk away, so even if you order a cabin that’s closest to that specific bathroom, I’d still drive there (which has plenty of parking anyway)
Staff were friendly and helpful. We discovered a bat in our cabin and the staff were attentive and very prompt with removing it. They even followed up through a phone call after our stay.
Overall, the cabin stay was great! Its not super cold, there were no leaking from the rain, and it had all the basic necessities we needed.
Pedro Garcia
One of the best parks in NY state I have been too. The natural swimming hole is amazing especially the waterfall in the back drop.
Joe Freda
Stunning views! Challenging hiking (if you want) or not so challenging if you want to just see the falls. Park at the top if you want to see the falls and take the gorge trail. Absolutley gorgeous!
Pedro Lebron (DRO)
The water is clean & refreshing great atmosphere for friends & family & for those who love to hike the trails & the views are amazing..you gotta experience it your self there's tables & grill station you can setup if you choose to make a daystation out of it
Travels with Debbie & Randy
Incredible falls. The trails were wide and well marked. They were even rebuilding stairs at the time. They keep it looking nice. This is must see!
Mrs C
Gorgeous! Worth the trek even on bad weather day like ours. The ranger was very helpful advising us on which trail to take. The Lucifer fall is truly a must see. 4 stars instead of 5 bcoz we had a tough time trying to find the entrence of the park using Google map.
Donald Jones
Scenic. Picturesque. Not far from Buttermilk falls. Parking fee covers both/all NY State Parks same day.
Rangga Putra
One of THE best state park to visit, here in NYS. Beautiful and breath-taking scenery. My most top favorite place for hiking. Several trails, fun, and challenging. It's definitely worth the drive.
Sam Poat
An awesome place! It’s like walking around in the Lord Of The Rings movies. Stone bridges and deep gorges and wandering paths. It’s great!
Jens Svensson
Amazing park. A must stop and visit.
Winding trails follow the gorge past 12 waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, to where visitors can see a mile-and-a-half down the wooded gorge as it winds its way to the lower park. Enjoy nine miles of hiking trails, or swim in a stream-fed pool beneath a waterfall.
Carlos Vicenty
What a Hike!!!
Great hard-core hiking ( if you not an expert like me) , beautiful scenery and the natural swimming pool makes the trip perfect!
Chris R (CRNP)
Amazing place to explore and discover the beauty of nature. The hike is safe and fun but it can be a challenge if you don't have the right shoes and if you are not adjusted to walking long distance in uneven terrain. The views are breath taking just like the steps along the trail. It looks like is really well maintained, very clean with maps available at park office near the parking lot.
Charles Treviso
Absolutely beautiful. Trails were marked and very visible... scenery is stunning. Waterfalls are breathtaking... a must see if you like to hike. A lot of elevation changes and at times it xan make the hike difficult.
Richard Northrop
Beautiful State Park. All the trails are very well marked, easy parking options, picturesque gorgeous and waterfalls, and they even have camping options
Nyree Lewis
Wonderful park with beautiful waterfalls, greenery and hikes
Krystal Haskins
Wonderful hiking trails and swimming holes. Make sure you bring water with you.
Walter Bergold
Camping since '79 here, absolutely beautiful experience nature and campers. Well maintained and helpful employees.
Katrina's Review
Great camping experience here!!! We stayed on site 57 which is only sun!!! Be aware there is NO shade in that loop. Huge sites!!!! The swimming hole is awesome and equipped with a diving board. We had an excellent time here. I think I'll go back every year. The hiking trails were magnificent. Showers and bathroom spacious. The kids park was so cute with hidden racoon made into the playground as well as squirrels.
Ofra Rahav
Breathtaking! Amazing natural sculpturing. The origins of Falling Water. If short on tine - go only to the Upper falls.
Adina Aamir
People working here are care about the Cayuga lake and run these cruises to educate the community. They offer blankets and binoculars free of charge and do these little things to really show that they are invested in taking care of everyone on board and the lake eco system. I cannot recommend it enough!
Terra Wesley
This state park has a great trail 4 mile trail the views were beautiful. The trail is not wheel chair or stroller friendly.
James Sumpter
Beautiful. Well maintained, clean park. Gorge trail to Lucifer Falls from the upper park is incredible.
Tracey/Len Tippett
Expected more hiking but it was still nice. The falls are great and there is a place to take a dip.
Amanda Rice
This place is gorgeous! While we have not hiked, we have used the picnic area and swimming hole. If you don't mind chilly water, it is an amazing place to swim! The lifeguards are very friendly and helpful!
Jennifer Rose
Clean, clean, clean! Obviously the staff truly care about the experience of their guests!!!! Bathroom/ showers were top notch!!! It's a definite return for us!
maria giannetta
There was a diving board and swimming was free. You just needto pay the parking =8$ usd plus, you can use it to enter other ny state parks in the area within the day;
kristabelle
Gorgeous place to spend an afternoon. I only visited the swimming area. The bathroom and changing area were very clean. No trash cans though. Whatever you bring in you have to bring out.
Kathleen Allen
Such a breathtaking place to cool off from the summer heat. Gorgeous views. Swimming area large and laid out so open. Even has a diving board. Perfect.
Gowtham Sagi
Robert H. Treman is a beautiful place with two amazing waterfalls and breathtaking hiking views.
Visitors can do swimming as well in the lower side of the waterfalls.
Meg Johnson
First time here. We only planned for two days here but one could easily spend a week here. The swimming area is so much fun and the hiking is easy to moderate because of incline.
Joanna Hryniewicz
A fantastic place to hike, or meet up with family and friends. There are areas fir grills as well. The gorge trail is closed till 31 May but other trails are open. Many interesting native flowers and stairs to climb up and down but worth the effort
Natasha Elwell
If you're trying to go to the waterfalls don't navigate to the waterfalls... Google will send you on a goose chase. But the waterfall hike is really nice once you get to the right place.
Tatsiana Miraniuk
One of the most beautiful NY state parks in my list. Recommend to visit!
Geeg Wiles
We met a lot of locals that hike these trails at least once a week. We easily saw why!
Joseph Castronuovo
Exceeded expectations of a wonderful unforgettable experience. The hike through the gorge is challenging exceeded only by the views of the many waterfalls as you traverse the walkways and steps carved from the rock surrounding the breathtaking thunderous rush of nature's magnificence. If you're not into the challenge of the five mile loop just park in the upper parking lot which affords a simple walk to the majestic Lucifer's falls and an experience of awe and wonder up close and personal.
Mike Szpylman
Beautiful State Park. Gorgeous trails and waterfalls. Nice campsites and swimming area.
Bill K
Like others suggested, go to the UPPER Park Entrance, follow the Gorge Trail and you'll find Lucifer Falls. This is such a great place to hike, see great views of waterfalls, and beautiful scenery all around! Well worth the $9 parking fee, and I completely appreciate the "Take Your Garbage With You" policy. The park is well maintained and very clean. Great outing for the whole family! (I would have posted more, but I can't post videos, and prefer not to post pics of family... sorry, but trust me when I say that you will enjoy this state parks hiking!)
Sade O.
The state park was beautiful to hike. I wish I was able to go swimming but unfortunately the swimming area were closed due to the aftermath of the storm.
Andrea Johannesen
It was beautiful! This hike definitely got our heart rates up, but the payoff in views was SO worth it. We will be back!!
Kelly B. Strunk
Every second was splendid. Thank you nature and NY Parks.
Abigail Adams
Walking into upper Treman is like strong into Rivendell. There is no more beautiful place to hike and Lucifer Falls is majestic!
Arthur Hutchinson
My favorite hike in the area! Beautiful trail and a great workout
Sheila Feldman
Love the views. Really nice state park. The only issue I had was that women's bathrooms at the camp site had no hot water for a shower. It was cold on hot setting and freezing cold on cold setting. That's why it only got 4 stars.
Wayne Fleischmann
The natural beauty of the waterfalls is phenomenal. Unfortunately, the campsites are in very poor disrepair and the roads are ruddy and filled with mud Etc. The lower hike trail to the Upper Falls was unfortunately closed after we got in there about three-quarters of a mile. Had to go back and take the upper Trail in order to see the majority of the waterfalls which was very spectacular.
Juanfra Cuevas
Awesome weekend at this park!! Highly recommend! Very clean and very safe for kids. Beautiful area!
Travis Maxwell
Great park for camping, easy trails and playgrounds for young kids to enjoy.
Herman Quay
Fun place to cool off after a hike. The swimming area has life guards, bathrooms and changing areas, and a diving board. The water is chilly but nice on a hot day.
The Rev
This park is incredible. There are several waterfalls and the trail follows a river with many cascades. The trail is straight in about 2 miles so if you follow it all the way down be prepared you have to walk all the way back up as well. There is a spot in the Middle where you can climb up a big hill that takes you back around to the beginning. Lucifer Falls is the picture I included and it is absolutely stunning to see.
Umarbutt Farooq
Excellent park
Waterfalls amazing
Some how reminds me of Indianana Jones movie sets snd great wall of chins
A Marino
Enjoyable way to spend a Fall day.
Rabbit lover Rabbit lover
Amazing views nice clean park and picnic area and buildings. Great views of falls just be careful on the rocks and steps from the Eroding.
M Bro
Amazing place to swim outdoors and get close up to a great waterfall. Best experience ever.
Chris Pace
Great hiking trails with spectacular views. Definitely coming back to spend more time exploring.
Elizabeth Mackey
This is by far one of the best parks I've been to in upstate NY. My second time there, but I'd go all the time if I lived closer. So beautuful!!!! Great hike!
Terese Earl
Beautiful hiking trails with waterfalls. Could use a few more electric camping sites. Natural spring swimming hole.
Julian Herrera
Long ride from Long Island but really worthy, I will go back probably next year.
The place is sensational..
Johnny Crossley
I fell in Love with Ithaca upon my first overnight stay at Robert H Treman State Park. This may be the best park Ithaca has to offer, although, I do recommend Buttermilk falls and Taughannock Falls as well. Walking along the Gorge trail is similar to stepping into another world, dimension, or moment in time. The gorge walls are breathtaking. The trail offers a collective stream of Waterfalls. The gorge and rim trails offer several perspectives of the ever so picturesque 115ft Lucifer Falls. Another great NYS Park!
miguel castillo
Absolutely loved the waterfall and the fact that it is pet friendly and you can swim with your dog
Cathy Heller
I love hiking here but the campsites are not my favorite. They have rocks blocking all the best sites so you can only tent camp on those sites.
Julie
What a great park! Breathtaking views! We started at the top and made our way down to the bottom. July 2011.
Rick Wei
Great view and clean trail, easy parking and well maintained restroom. Use it before taking off for the big loop, especially if come with kids.
Barry Zuidgeest
The gorge trail is well worth the 2.5 mile walk, absolutely amazing. Especially the Lucifer falls.
Bilbo Bagins
One of my favorite parks in Ithaca great trails beautiful scenery
sandra judson
Small swimming area but pretty. What you see in the photos is the only swimming area, that's it.
Sean Scullion
Nice trails, and who doesn't like waterfalls. Unless your TLC ... and you have a rule against chasing them
Dave Ghidiu
Great park to visit! Lots of neat areas to hike, okay, or just sit. There are some trails at the Old Mill part of the park - really neat place to explore.
Katherine Tan (Kat)
Went for a 2 night camping trip and hiking -
Camping: Decent campsites, bathrooms are warm and even have charging outlets. Note that "modern" sites are RV sites but are flatter. The "true" tent sites are called "rustic".
Hiking: From the campsite highly recommend taking the Rim trail ascending and gorge trail descending. Rim trail can get quite muddy and there is a stretch of steep stairs, but it did make going down the gorge trail and waterfalls so much more enjoyable. We went the day after rainfall and the gorges were truly unbelievably gorgeous!
Arika Whitaker
This is definitely a beautiful diamond in the ruff.please visit the upper and lower falls.
Michael Kelly
Lucifer's Falls and the area around that are spectacular. The amount of steep uphill is significant, but you earn an extra beer for post hike relaxation. About 900 feet elevation gain in 4.5 miles.
Ryan Urbigkit
An easy to get to little park that offer a unique swimming opportunity right next to the waterfall when a lifeguard is present.
Md Saiful Islam
Nice place to get a natural shower. The waterfall has shallow drop so one can just walk right at the bottom of the fall. It's pretty fun!
Susana Torres
This place is beautiful!! Falls are really nice.. quiet and peaceful..
Camping is possible for everyone, I just recommend don’t camp next to the trees ( numbers 32- 36) because ground is no the best.. .
Bathroom are clean, although it could be better.
I recommend this place .
sarah westcott
absolutely gorgeous during the fall. a steep hike, but it doesn't dull the experience!
Amy Thibodeau
I was impressed with the lower part of Robert H Treman park, but then we discovered that there was an upper falls location and we went to check that out. We only made the discovery on accident after looking at a satellite image of the area. We went up the road a little ways and sure enough came to upper Treman park. We took the gorge trail to lucifer falls and I was taken away by the views along the way. I was even more impressed as we got nearer to lucifer falls. It was amazing.
David
Another beautiful Ithaca park! One of the unusual, must visit, swimming areas in the country, at the base of a 45 foot fall.. Great gorge hike but not for the weak. Many falls for your visual delite. No better way to wash your troubles away than listen to the water as it flows towards Cayuga Lake. Historical multistory mill at the upper park with complete access to the public. Truly a visit to how our country was built. Not to be missed!
Anne Lewis
I've been tent camping here a few times and the sites are always very well maintained. You aren't right on top of your neighbor either, which is nice. Beautiful hiking trails and unique swimming places with outbuildings makes this a must see, even if you only come in for the day.
GOVIND N
Beautiful park .. Always in my favourite list .I would definitely recommend this hike .It's even more GORGEous in a rainy day.
patrick lambertz
Love this park. The water was a refreshing 58 degrees Fahrenheit. The falls are awe inspiring. And all the facilities are spotless. I want to live at this place all summer. The swimming area was art deco meets nature. Could not build this place in this day and age.
Not to be missed.
Feather
My favorite ithaca hiking spot! I wish the gorge trail was open in the winter.
John Crounse
Trails were nice. They are currently posted as one way but nobody seems to follow those rules. Was very crowded on the weekend
uri calderon
First time here, spectacular views and beautiful waterfalls
Zerzell Smith
Great hike. Great waterfalls.
Ankita Rai
One of the best waterfalls in New York.
Kevin Hower
There's no question that the gorge and falls are spectacular. However, the Gorge Trail is currently closed right above and below Lucifer Falls. (September 2021 - due to Hurricane Ida flooding damage) There really isn't a good place to see it since the overlook on the Rim Trail is overgrown. On top of that, they're charging you $9 to enter, but no one tells you the trail is closed until you see the sign about 1/4 mile up or down the trail. They are also currently asking people to carry in/carry out. This is a park that is far too well staffed and too busy for that. There is a lot of trash in places because of it.
Emily Karsten
There is a chipmunk in the Pay station. He is a cute little guy, but not very helpful and we had to use the machine since he wouldn't open the door and take our money.
Jeff Till
Great day hike and enjoy yourself on these wonderful trails well maintained.
Joel Carter
The hike was pretty tough, but jumping in the swimming hole made it so worth it! The water was a little chilly, but felt good after the hike.
Charles Perras
This was an excellent, moderate difficulty hike. We did the gorge trail and saw all the falls in the park. The trail is well marked with A LOT of stairs. There is water access throughout the trail and the park is dog friendly. We didn’t swim in the swimming area but, it seemed pretty cool.
Joseph Vera
Must see during fall, really nice hike.
Craig Dively
Beautiful small waterfall with a swimming area beside the falls with all different depths.
Evan Brock
I'm not sure how well I can express how great of a park this is. While we went on the Gorge Trail hike, there are spots for camping, picnicing, swimming (beneath a waterfall!!), and tons of hiking. The Gorge Trail is a 2.25 mile hike with a 500+ ft elevation and great views of the gorge and 12 waterfalls along the way. Some websites state that the hike is moderate, there are over 800 steps and lots of steep climbs. My 70+ year old FIL was able to do it, but he was definitely challenged. However, the hike was worth it to see Lucifer Falls: a 115ft waterfall (see photo). It took us about an hour and a half to get to the falls and 55 min to get back. Definitely worth the $9 parking fee!
tom rods
Amazing park. Wonderful hiking. There is also swimming available there as well. Definitely worth a visit.
Terilee Shultis
Visited my daughter at her campsite.Very nice park! Well kept up! Playground was in good shape and safe for my granddaughter. Recommend this park!
Ben Tackley
Best place in the area to hike, absolutely beautiful gorges, trails well maintained
Francisca Duran
Great place to go with the family quiet place
Water is amazing
Sara Miller
Loved this park! My friend and I did the gorge trail and came back along the rim trail. Spectacular waterfalls, tons of parking, and really well-placed viewing areas along the trail. Lots of stairs, but well worth it.
za flores
i read reviews and thought i understood the trails. i did not. when you see the stairs going down, turn around.
Paige Seymour
Hiking here has been one of the prettiest hikes we have ever done. Will definitely be coming back!
Cybil Snarf
The Falls at this park were beautiful!!! The hike was very challenging, we thoroughly enjoyed it!! A must see!!!
Sandy
Must visited place. It has 2 falls in gorge trail. Either u can complete the full trial or park ur car in. Upper trail and walk .25 miles and visit the Lucifer falls and go to lower trail and visit swim area for the second falls. Both of them are amazing.
Meenu T
We loved this park and hiking trails. We did some part from the upper Treman during the winter. We took off FLT wearing spikes on icy days. And now in summer and fall we enjoy the natural up hills and down hills, the rivers and waterfall, gorgeous view from the top and Lucifer fall is absolutely stunning. You can make this one hour to 4 hours per your capacity and time adding in FLT and enjoying the wilderness. Wear comfortable shoes for your comfort and safety. Enjoy!!
Bill fenton
Had a awesome time. Falls were beautiful. And they cabins to rent if u want to camp. Great couple get away
The Yus
Nice gorge trail albeit a bit muddy when we were there.
abhishek singh
Oh this one was a surprise for me. It starts with a swimming pool kind of area where you can swim below a nice looking waterfall. You dont need to hike for that. There are restrooms and changing rooms just next to it. This is perfect spot for beating summer heat.
Other option is to go up via rim trail and witness amazing views of waterfall throughout. We stopped at one spot called devil's kitchen waterfall which was in middle of our trail and we couldn't stop ourselves to jump into water and enjoy thoroughly. That palce was a hidden gem. We loved it.
After that we resumed our hike and reached top where we saw some more breathtaking views of Lucifer's fall.
Because of cocid restrictions we had to go down via gorge trail. This was equally beautiful. It was serene all around and it was not even fall yet. I can only imagine how beautiful it will be during fall season.
I would recommend this hike to everyone if you are visiting finger lakes.
Jason Hutchinson
Good hiking trail. I would consider it moderate difficautly.
Alex Haschen
Discover this spectacular park! Kept in great shape with amazing views
Paul Elkmann
The west end of rhe park is great with the loop around Lucifer Falls. Expect a total elevation change ~1000FT. The gorge trail between the parking lot and Lucifer is enchanting. A smaller but good waterfall is behind the Mill. The lower falls is very pretty going into the swimmming area but the water (in August) was 60°.
Andrew Myers
Another wonderful gorge in the area. Perfect for a scenic hike or an afternoon swimming in the gorge. Great waterfalls, trails, facilities and scenery.
Christian Perring
Lovely hike. Good camp ground.
Brendon Zimmerman
Very nice park that is kept up and clean. It has many hiking trails and a few waterfalls. Also a playground for children. It has easy hiking and a swimming hole. Also on site is an old mill you can explore inside and out with many information signs and three floors. All restored very neat.
Eric C. Maxwell
This was a fantastic place to spend a lazy late October Sunday! We found ourselves in Ithaca for the day, without many firm plans. After realizing just how close this park was to town, we decided to stop by for a quick visit to see a waterfall or two but ended up spending half the day here. The gorge below Old Mill Falls is really amazing! Incredible views from the top of Lucifer Falls, and there were slightly more colors in the Enfield Creek valley/gorge than most of the surrounding areas, so it was a perfect place to visit after most of the leaf peepers had gone away for the season.
Joshua VanStrander
What an amazing place to go on an adventure. The waterfalls are amazing and the trails were pretty well kept. Everywhere you looked it was something beautiful. Everyone was friendly and the trails are clearly marked. I can understand why they tell you its nearly impossible to get a stroller through. I feel like just going once i missed out on so much more. I will definitely return and take the trails in the opposite direction. I would highly recommend it
S Tsou
Campground is very nice with spacious campsites 2 different large playgrounds and plenty of hiking. Also not to far from plenty of other things to do.
Matthew Schaner
Well maintained, absolutely gorgeous. Great hikes for all levels.
Nancy Morales
This park is beautiful, the hike is not as difficult and you can always stop and enjoy the view.
Damon Gates
Fun cold swimming hole
D Z
This place is absolutely beautiful!
Russell Murphy
It's beautiful. I want to return when the swimming area is reopened.
Jan Rowland
The hike to the lookout on Rim Trail was worth the trip. Beautiful waterfalls!
Alan Lamb
Very nice for walking, picnics, and for spending time outdoors
Willy Castillo
Beautiful nature trails and falls and the old mill was interesting as well.
John Haywood
Incredible State Park with nice trails and great waterfalls!
Chad R
Great to swim, camp, chill. Not the best for hiking compared to others.
Nassim Ouerdane
Beautiful park. The trails are pretty gnarly on a hot day but definitely worth it.
Saige Skinner
This place is truly amazing!! It has so many tails and such amazing views. The main swimming "pool" can be very crowded but it is such an amazing experience that will make you feel in touch with the beauty of the world! It is a great place to go to hike have a picnic or even swim! It offers so many cool ways to spend your day there :)
Jacob Edwards
I went a little early in the year, so half the trails were closed, and there was a lot of ice and mud, but it was still a great hike! The views were gorgeous, and the hills were good. Definitely going to be going back later.
B.
Very beautiful park. The watering hole is gorgeous and super refreshing after a long day of hiking. Bring water shoes!!! The floor is all rocks and uncomfortable to walk on. The place to settle your stuff down is pretty small and they should expand it especially for summer guests.
Colin Fahey
You can’t possibly ask for more from a State Park. The land, gorges, waterfalls are all unique and perfect. Additionally, if you stay to camp (tent, camper or cabin), the facilities are the cleanest I’ve ever seen (Starting precisely at 6 AM and 4x per day from what I just saw). Camped from NJ across to the West Coast, and haven’t seen a better setup yet. Go there!
Kristin FOCKLER
We had a lovely morning hike on the Gorge trail and enjoyed beautiful views of the upper and lower falls.
Mike Berlinger
Beautiful area great cabins and the morning walk is awesome
Meredith Fraser
We hiked this trail on a hot Tuesday, and it was fairly busy. We parked at the top and walked down the Gorge trail - the views were beautiful and we took lots of pictures around every bend. The swimming hole at the bottom was pretty busy and cold (64 F!) but still lots of fun. There are bathrooms and change rooms, as well as shade and picnic areas. We stayed for about an hour, and then headed up the Rim trail. The steps at the top are brutal, honestly, but that was by far the most strenuous part of the hike. It took about an hour each way at a brisk pace, but lots of photo stops, so we spent about 3 hours there in total. Definitely wear good shoes - NO FLIP FLOPS as we saw several people doing! I prefered this over Buttermilk Falls.
Jeremy Smith
This state park is excellent and offers a number of activities for different people.
The lower area has a playground, picnic area, and the campground (often full in the summer). The highlight is a swimming hole at the base of a waterfall with lifeguards and a fairly high diving board. The water is always cold, but it's refreshing on a hot day. Like all NY State Parks, the swimming area has a lot of rules, so be prepared to hear the whistle a lot.
The gorge trail from the upper area is a spectacular path along the gorge. The path is a bit uneven and lacks guard rails, but is relatively flat to start. It can be challenging for people with mobility issues, though. For those up for a short hike, the gorge trail to Lucifer falls offers the best views for the effort and is a good distance for young children. Continuing down to the lower parking lot is a nice hike, but the best views are above Lucifer falls.
Roger Mak
This is the best waterfall park I visited and I have been to many. The lower fall swimming area is fantastic for all age when you can swim right besides a beautiful fall. Facility is well managed and clean. I didn't swim there but wish I did. The upper fall and the gorge walkway is another world. The falls along the narrow gorge ares fascinating. It's one of the best scenery nature can offer.
Toni W
Unique walkways to gorgeous falls!
Mike Ertel
Amongst the Best of the Gorges Parks in Ithaca to visit. Truly spectacular waterfalls, shear cliffs, scenes, trails. Rim Trail is physically demanding, but if you can... What an adventure! A few amazing man-made walkways and bridges over and along the water.
Cliff Ruby
Swimming hole under a waterfall... Totally awesome!! NYS lifeguards.. Wade in or diving board.. Only did a day trip. Heard the camping is quite nice. If you're near by.. do NOT pass up this beautiful place
Eric Mohammed
Cool swimming spot, looked like nice cabins in a wooded section as well
Evan McSwegan
Really a 4.5, too much rainfall will close the rock path on the right side of the fall so be aware of that. Otherwise very cool rock stairs and a light/medium hike with nice elevation change.
Ryan McCartney
Great park with amazing views and waterfalls you can swim in. Can't wait to come back!
Steve Templin
There is plenty of space for camping and parking. The bathrooms are clean and modern. The swimming in the gorge is cold but fantastic. You can enter the water from the stone steps or from the high spring board. Water depths are marked and there are life guards. The hiking is great and affords even more beautiful views.
Abbegail O'Dell
Beautiful park with some really great swimming areas. We didn't know anything about it when we arrived so we're really pleasantly surprised by the waterfalls and trails. Stunning.
Candy
Ithaca is gorges as they say, this park is by far the prettiest with multiple falls and hiking paths on both sides of the gorge, not to mention finger lakes trail section. It's a good 5 mile hike around both sides if the park, with some hilly spots and a section of steep stairs to climb, very doable for most! By far this park is my all time favorite. Picnic areas, an old mill, waterfalls, swimming, camping. It's all here!
Keka Lovejoy
We love love love this place! So much fun & adventure. The staff is friendly, the campground is cute & relaxing yet fun, the playgrounds are excellent, the trails are well kept, the swimming area is great! Oh and the views of the cascading waterfalls, amazing! (minus the locals thinking they own the place) but other than that it's definitely worth visiting, at least once! Plus the other State Parks close by are spectacular as well :)
Munther
Absolutely Gorgeous, u feel like in Avatar movie 😄make sure that u have your bathing suit to jump in the downfalls however i must warn you that the water is icy cold but the place is a hidden gem …
Ed Butler
I love this park and have been going here for 42 years. I think it is one of the most beautiful parks in the state. There is an upper section, a lower section and a 3 mile gorge that you can hike between the two with over 25 waterfalls along the way. It looks like something out of Lord of the Rings in some places. You can sometimes see deer along the stream. It has a campground with cabins in the lower section with a great swimming hole. You'll love it!
fjtenou
Beautiful place! Excellent, lots of family fun. The swimming whole is absolutely great, safe, lifeguards, clean and beautiful.
Park rangers and office staff are very nice, professional and knowledgeable. Responded very quickly to my request and very helpful.
Bathrooms are clean, campsites are nice big areas.
Views are exceptional during the hike. Trails are excellently marked and well maintained . Highly recommended it. Definitely going back soon.
Steve R.
Park is a great place. Usually we go in the early spring when some trails are still closed due to snow. This was a bright sunny day and there were lots of other people on the trails which makes the place lose some of its seclusion appeal. The swimming hole was very popular. There was new trail maintenance, especially stairs on the gorge trail. Stairs are well placed as to rise and run, so ok for older folks.
Andrés Vinueza
Amazing hike! Definitely a popular state park so highly recommend getting earlier in the morning before the big rush. The trails are easy to moderate throughout and are well marked. The scenery is gorgeous and plenty of waterfalls. Could not stop taking picture of this place!
kate dubitski
This park is a wonderful.
There are two parking lots, one near the waterfal trail and another where you can swim when lifeguards are present. There is also a big picnic area there.
There is a longer trail between the two parking lots.
There is beautiful nature and water.
Truly magical.
Monica Geist
This park was great they have a short walk to see the lower falls. Great for families. And the upper loop was challenging with a lot of stairs. But definitly worth the views. It was great to see so many people following mask rules and trying to social distance
One Life2Live
Coming here for years, and beautiful especially during days after rains. Sadly the trails aren't maintained like they've been in the past. I'm sure all a result of pandemic, staffing etc. Some serious work needs to be done as in some places trails a bit dangerous.
Kelly Santoro
We did not camp, but came in to hike and swim. If you are in decent shape and like to hike we would absolutely recommend starting at the bottom of the Gorge Trail, hiking to the top, and then taking the Rim Trail down. It’s a bit over four miles but it is a super cool hike. You’ll start out wondering what all the hype is about but each turn gets better and better. There’s a really diverse forest landscape and we even saw lots of fun little critters out on the hike. The Rim Trail will actually drop you out basically right by the swimming hole. We were so hot and exhausted we ran over and jumped right into the water. Take a moment to swim over to the waterfall and let the rock-warmed water cascade over you. It’s a super cool experience. This is a great hike and well worth the challenge!
Pam Huvar
This is a beautiful hike. Waterfall is exceptional. Lots of steps and steep terrain. Stopped at lower falls parking. Easy walk on pavement. Upper falls is not easy. But you can start on rim trail and cross over to bridge at bottom of Lucifer's fall and go back up to parking lot on gorge trail. About a mile hike.

Beautiful swimming area. Shaded picnic area. Nice camp ground.
Wendy Hernandez
One of natures best kept secret in Rochester. I loved it. Also the smell emitted by the trees made the trip more pleasant.
Edge Celize
The highlight is Lucifer falls the camp ground is pretty standard, the pubic swimming area is really nice, the hiking trails is Tammy nice to run and jog, lots of up hill Climbs though, but very scenic one you get half way through with the climax being Lucifer falls. Heated showers.
A. Lambert
We absolutely love this park. We live in the Ithaca area and this is one of our favorite places to go on a family hike. It can be quite challenging or easy depending on where you start. For a hike, we like to start at Upper Treman and head to the right to get a view of Lucifer falls first. You hike a bit uphill through the woods and arrive at overlook. Then the descending staircase into the creek over the bridge and back up alongside Lucifer falls to arrive back at the car. In the summer, you can splash a bit in the water, in the Fall the colors are spectacular and in the spring after the snow and ice have melted it is a delight to see with rushing water. In winter, often this trail is closed but if you can go to see it before a ton of snow accumulates the trail to the overlook may be open. It is worth the sightseeing to view a frozen Lucifer falls. Camping here is great as well and the playground area is fun but very sunny.
Michelle Braun
Such a fun place to visit. Note that when staffing is low, the deep end is cosed. This area includes the diving board and swimming in the waterfalls, and there is really no way to know this until you arrive. That said, it is still a beautiful place to cool off at.
Andy Becker
Great hike and beautiful falls. Rim trail is no joke going up or down. Very vertical climb. Gorge is the easier of the two.
Gabriel “ARTOIZ”
I stayed during Labor Day weekend. The cabins are quite nice some are renovated some are not. The swimming area I was quite nice with a natural waterfall cooling the swimming area. The hikes were quite nice with beautiful views. At night the stars were quite clear. The bathrooms were generally clean. My only complaint is the construction is happening to build a bridge from the entrance to the rest the park. Before you were able to drive over the river which looked quite nice. But now they have built a bridge and construction is still underway.

Love love love. Scenery keeps changing. Great views and nice hike. Pro Tip - skip the main swimming hole that's full of kids and families, and go jump in the river upstream. Lots of places to jump in and cool off!
Allan Abbott
There were 3 falls that we saw. Lucifer, the one steps from the lower parking lot. This is also the designated swimming hole. The swimming was cancelled for the day we went. We found a couple other spots for the kids to cool off. Also saw a large snake that just got done feeding! Trails were nicely groomed
Christina
Beautiful falls. From the upper falls I'd recommend taking the rim trail (cliff staircase) and cutting over on the suspension bridge to go back up. We did it the other way and the cliff stairs are a bit of a killer to go up... Down would've been easier. 😁 The swimming area was unique too, but was very busy. Upper falls much more peaceful and beautiful.

This is a beautiful place. There are all sorts of hiking trails. The swimming are is at the base of a waterfall which is really kinda neat. There is also another, much larger waterfall in the park, as well as an interesting old mill that is now a museum of sorts. Definitely a nice place to spend the day.
Shelby Johnson
Great place to hike and swim. A little muddy but isn’t every waterfall trail.
Ramon Smeets (Omniradius)
Oh my, where to start? This park and the waterfalls that it included were just breathtaking. I hadn't done much research before visiting so I guess my expectations were not too high...but man, were they exceeded! It's also pretty accessible since there is a path and stairs right along the waterfalls, so also 'less experienced' hikers shouldn't have too much trouble visiting this place. Highly recommended if you're into beautiful scenery and rugged nature.
Clay Himmelberger
Visited twice this summer, such a great swimmin' hole! Diving board beside the waterfall is unique and scenic. You can sit under the falls, though the current will make it hard for kids to reach it. Water is quite cold (it's a stream). Playground is quite good too. Excellent fat trip !
Travis Floyd
Great swimming hole! My family and I stopped by this park since we were in the area. We had such a blast swimming by the waterfall and letting our daughter play in the shallow parts. The diving board is a great touch to the experience. We didn't walk any trails just because we only wanted to swim but definitely plan on going back to give the rest of the park a try.
Yi hsuan Tsou
Most of the trails are closed until May. However we were still able to see two falls, it was beautiful!
Ganesh Reddy Mekala
Beautiful falls overall. 2.5 miles hike is the best part. Beautiful view on all sides surrounded by water and long alpine trees. Don’t forget to carry your water bottles as you need them the most throughout the hike.
Lara
Gorgeous. Multiple designated swimming areas and a life guard. You can even sit under the waterfall.
nicole rafter
Horrible generator hours, but the people are friendly and Great for a long walk with the fur kids.
Adiel Gonzalez
One of my hiking places in the area. Safe a i have always enjoyed hiking here
Chris Olson
If you have the time definitely stop in at this park! The views are simply breathtaking. I cannot explain in words what this park is like, you really have to just experience it! It cost about $8 to park which is a small price to pay in my opinion for such a nice park. Be sure to bring shoes you don't mind getting wet and/or muddy. Hiking shoes would probably be best although not necessarily needed if you only stay on the stone walkways. However it can get wet so something that has grip will be best. There are bathrooms in the parking lot when you get there. Keep in mind that this is a take what you bring park, so there are no garbage cans.

Hiked the Gorge Trail and the Rim Trail on a warm, mostly sunny July day. The ~2 mile Gorge Trail is a must-do. Not only do you hike a beautiful, fairly easy path, but there are also many opportunities to go for a swim next to the waterfalls!
The Rim Trail is much more wooded and secluded, missing the water views of the Gorge, but also quieter and less populated. I recommend it coming back, after enjoying the Gorge.
After a good day's hike, Ithaca Beer Co.'s taproom is just a short drive away for a refreshing beer and lawn games!
Anna Meijer
Amazing hike! We parked our car by the lower part of the park and choose to hike up via the Gorge Trail and then down the Rim Trail. This was clearly the best way to experience the views and also nice to hike up during the first half of the hike. When we had finished we took a swim at the swimming area and it was the perfect ending with cool and fresh water.
Jen Snyder
We LOVED this park. We stayed at a nearby Airbnb and took our daughters here to check it out. The swimming area was such a nice surprise and so cool. It was easily the highlight of our trip! You can literally swim at the base of a waterfall! After that we drove to the other entrance of the park and hiked a loop past Lucifer Falls and then back to our car on the gorge trail. Would much rather have hiked back past the falls...the gorge trail wasnt very scenic and had a ton of steps...222 to be exact! The trail by the falls is breathtakingly beautiful!
David Clifford
Amazing wonder, one of many in the beautiful Finger Lakes. Playgrounds for the kids, a swimming hole for an after hike swim as well as shelters and charcoal grills for picnics. Very clean with a lot of accessible parking at the lower and upper entrances. Get there early as the good spots fill up quickly on a hot summer day. Lifeguards are there also

Like Buttermilk Falls, I recommend this location for a hike as well. There's quite a few of waterfalls you can see here and it's about a 3 mile hike with plenty of room in the park for friends and families alike to enjoy the outdoors. I've done this hike here a few times along with some BBQing. Really recommend it.
As always, bring some extra water and proper boots / sneakers (in good weather) to hike. Also, if you don't want to hike, you can go and chill by the pool area.
Elizabeth Jawor (Ela)
A great place to camp, hike, and swim. Park has an upper and lower section. In the lower portion, there is a waterfall swim area, campground, and trails. Hikes are moderate and some are strenuous. Trails take you to Lucifer falls, which can also be accessed by driving to the upper section of this park.In the lower portion are also playgrounds for kids, picnic tables and grills for day use.

$8 in per car. Great swim area to use. Bathrooms and separate changing rooms close to swimming area. On the grassy area next to the swim area they have social distance circles set up for people to put their stuff into. We were lucky to get one. Active lifeguards on duty also.
James Cruz
Wonderful scenic location. Fresh water swimming and diving fro a diving board under the watchful eyes of competent lifeguards. Family and kid friendly. Plenty of parking just a short walk away from the falls. No up hill climbing either which is unusual for such a majestic location. It's a must see and do if you're in this area.

Great place to swim and relax.
Amber Sarubbi
The gorge trail to rim trail loop is full of awesome views but be ready to do a lot of stairs. Highly recommend doing this on a week day when its less crowded.
Nate Brimhall
Fantastic view of the waterfalls and excellent hiking, definitely a workout if you take the gorge trail, so bring some hiking shoes! You don't have to walk very far to see the falls if hiking isn't your cup of tea, too! Also, if you go during the summer, you can drive through a river for a great look at the water.

Beautiful trails. Really loved the jumping bored
Neha Prashad
Love this place! Awesome hikes with perfect views and great streams. The swimming area was a bit cold but was very fun for the family. We went on the gorge trail it had waterfalls, streams, and a in the middle hike. It isn't easy but it isn't hard. Great place to go to with family or friends!
Colleen Gray
Went here 9/17 and I was astounded by what I saw. So many waterfalls(of course the water level was low,but still impactful),staircases reminding me of an Escher print, and of course- cathedral like gorge settings. Just an amazing place.
Andrew Fisher
I’ve been going here since childhood. Great memories camping in the cabins and in tents. An awesome swimming spot, scaling the width of the waterfall there is awesome. Hanging out at the base of the tall waterfall upstream a ways is also awesome. Will go here anytime I’m in Ithaca in the warmer months.
Lexi Zotomayor
Not far from the office you'll find the Lower Falls where you can either watch the falls from the benches or dip in the water for a closer look. It's a great spot for a family to spend the weekend.
Alexander Cook
truly Phenomenal place. Can't even begin to describe how magical the waterfalls are. Trail is well marked, paved or sculpted with rock for much of the hike. Started hike at top and ended at the swimming hole/playgrounds. Every moment of the hike offered breathtaking views
jim catalfamo
this is a good looking falls and nice park
Adam Brumberg
The trails were all built in the 30s as part of National Recovery Act's (NRA, passed by FDR to aid recovery during the depression) Works Progress Administration (WPA), the slate stairs and walls are spectacular. The rim trails are incredible and pretty challenging (some portions are VERY steep) but worth it. You can also see the view from the top of Lucifer Falls by taking an easier short walk from the upper park entrance. The swimming at the bottom of the falls is really great, but always pretty cold (low 60s, even in August)
Mike Long
One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been
John B
A great place to camp. Beautiful scenery and best of all clean and heated bathrooms
Murat Okcuoglu
Very impressive, must visit if in the area
Durgesh Rai
A natural gem of a place close to Ithaca. There are countless little falls between the upper and lower sections which are all mesmerizing at time. The sound of rather fast flowing creek is really nice along most of the treks. The trails are kind of medium on challenging scales and its appropriate and safe for most ages and families. The swimming spot is supernice too. What else wold you need to call it a perfect day outdoor!
John Roberts
Stayed in the Campground and checked out upper and lower falls areas.
Annette Renshaw
This was a great experience. My daughters and I hiked all of the trails and the views were amazing. One review I had read, said that dogs are not allowed on the Gorge Trail. If this information was true, it is not any longer. We took our dog on all of the hikes, and other dogs were there as well.
Loveta Geesey
Stunning and gorgeous hike! With so many to choose from in the area, to say we always take visitors here gives you an idea of how beautiful it is. Park at the mill at the upper falls (mill is well worth the visit itself, but is only open seasonally). Hike down Lucifer Falls. Then you can make the trip back up. You can hike down the whole way and have someone pick you up at the bottom, but you will have seen amazing parts with just that piece. Quite steep in places, but the terrain is mostly well maintained. (A few right places beyond Lucifer Falls, from the top)
Laura Savino
Well worth the visit! We stopped by for just the day. Probably one of the most beautiful parks that I've ever hiked at. Definitely recommend to wear either sneakers or hiking boots, parts of the gorge trail were steep. I would like to come back soon to camp and hike the rim trail.
Tye Wilhelm
Diving board at the base of a natural waterfall, sick! Beautiful views on a short hike = High yeild
Sudhir Gupta
The swim and jump experience is great and a must do activity when you are around Fingerlakes. We would have loved to camp in this beautiful place and spend our weekends.
Thomas Thorne
Incredibly fun spot. Diving board was a blast!
Geri Halloran
This place was amazing! The natural features, waterfalls, trails, and waterfall ponds to swim in are the best.
We took advantage of a trail walk. Poorly advertised, so it ended up being just us and the guide! This was at the upper entrance with the old Mill on Saturday at 11:30 am. Our guide Glen, and the hour and a half walk we took with him was the highlight of our trip. Geography, geology, botany, history- this was his back yard growing up. He would be able to customize your walk for any age, interests, or physical abilities. This is a historical park, so read up on the history, or read the markers, or just go to swim. Some remodeling going on. Big sites. Only few with power. Watch trailer dump if raining, as may be flooded, but then everything is this spring!
What a stay!

So beautiful! What a wonderful place to hike. If you don't feel like hiking all the way up and back can do a smaller loop from the upper parking area where, instead of going all the way down to the bottom camping spot, you can turn around at the bridge that connects the two trails and head back up.
Justin Lee
The trails are moderately demanding with many inclines, offering a great trekking experience. The swim area is located near the base of a waterfall, offering a chance to cool down and relax after a hike.
Nikki
Great views, awesome staff, excellent trails, fantastic camping. Everything for a perfect get away.
Matt Trayling
Absolutely gorgeous place. All year round
Ailin Jin
Took our dog with us on a hike in late September. We hiked the Rim + Gorge trails, and I personally think it's a medium level hike; there are some ups and downs, but the slopes are rather flat. The trail paths are also well maintained. The Gorge trail, as the name entails, offers a view of the gorges. You can get pretty close to the water. Both tail heads are equipped with a parking lot plus bathrooms, soda vending machines, and water fountains.
Kelly McClain
This park has a great hike. You can park at either end and see waterfalls, but the hike between is very nice. It is much harder than the Watkins Glen hike which is considered 'moderate'. Swimming at the falls is awesome!
Desmond Oathes
Beautiful rock formations, waterfalls. Swim area was closed and looks a little yuck. If you park at the non-swim area lot, you are much closer to the cool rocks and water.
Dan G
Great place to swim and hike.
Tabby Badwitch
This park has breath-taking views but not a trail for everyone. There are a lot of stairs and they are very steep. There are many places where the trail drops straight down into the gorge. This park is absolutely magical though!
Tory Marting
Wonderfully scenic and very adventurous-feeling! We hiked the two mile up-and-back (4mi rnd trip) Gorge Trail from the lower parking lot. A very worthwhile hike, but not one for anyone who struggles with many, many stairs!
Chris Coletti
Gorgeous park, epic playground with plenty of picnic tables and benches from which you can watch your kids play
Donovan Zandi
It was a wonderful place to visit with my daughter and family. Nice clean little cabins, very nice staff and people around. The hikes and waterfalls around are absolutely gorgeous.
Abigayle Feldman-Binder
Another beautiful Ithaca park with hiking trails. there are some easy trails and some advanced trails with A LOT of stairs and tougher climbs that lead to great falls views. Place to swim beneath the falls with a lifegaurd and a diving board. Changing area and bathrooms as well. Well worth the visit!
Shawn Boyd
Great free state park for swimming. The water is cold. 64 degrees at the beginning of August but still fun. You can dive off the diving board that has a life guard watching over it. You can swim up to the falls or wade in the shallow area at the other end. There is change room and showers. There is also a snack bar. Bring a blanket and have a picnic. Lots of sandy grass areas to put a blanket down or some basic camp grills to cook on and picnic tables to eat at.
Tom Lombardo
A must-do 2 mile vigorous hike (1000 feet of climbing) , mostly along water with several spots to swim or drop your feet in. Fabulous scenery. Wear good shoes & take water. Waterfalls were still good despite low rainfall in July. Other Ithaca area waterfalls (there are many) were dry. Restrooms at both top & bottom.
Ankit Dhaniwala
Winter wonderland... Ithaca love ❤️
Ryan Cook
AMAZING park!! There is an upper and a lower in entrance from which you can park at. I recommend starting at one end and doing the gorge trail which allows you to hike to the other end. However, if you start at the lower part, it will be a strenuous uphill hike most of the way, but the trail follows the creek and it is absolutely gorgeous. This park CANNOT BE MISSED if you're in the area
Matt Whitman
Beautiful hikes, waterfalls and very well maintained trails.

What a great place to go for a hike. Can't wait to go back and go swimming.
