Reviews of New Orleans Athletic Club
The Real Life Shameless
This place changed my life. My only regret is that I wasn't able to join sooner. The rate is BEYOND worth it for those who take multiple classes in particular, and for the indoor heated pool and overall ambience. What other gym has a bar, a stunning rooftop view of the entire city, and as much history as this one? Answer: NONE! You will feel like family here. Highly recommended to anyone and everyone 👌
Amy J
I am absolutely in love with this place...there is nothing else like it. Absolutely worth the price. Beautiful historic building, perfect mix of old and new, tons of varied classes... you will never be bored here. Definitely helps motivate me to stay in shape!
Ron Anthony
A beautiful and historic workout club located in New Orleans nearly a hundred years old and full of amazing and unique bits of memorabilia from the club's hay day. Very much worth a look for anyone interested in historical places as well as a good workout venue. Club offers pool, spa, yoga, boxing, and a myriad of other sports and body focused options.

Hands down! I guess this has been the best choice I’ve made. NOAC has been awesome to me. Their trainers are exceptional giving me a good exercise experience. Will surely recommend this place to others!
Nick Sorrells
Beautiful old building, beautiful pool, beautiful library, beautiful bar, tons of options like raquetball court, punching bags, sauna, and they're working on a rooftop expansion with turf. Also there are a ton of free classes like kickboxing, yoga, intervals, etc. which come with the membership. I work in the library and exercise in the two levels above so it's a one stop shop for me
Chelsea Bussey
I never thought of working out as being fun before until I joined the NOAC. The staff is real friendly and all the members are cool. They have these free classes like Zumba and Belly Dance where you dance to music the entire time. I am usually embarrassed by my terrible dancing skills, but Claudia makes me feel great about myself. Wendall has been helping me lose weight with his afternoon Cardio classes with weights. Jose taught me how to finally throw a decent right hook. I have never been to a gym where you can get on the internet and charge your phone while working out on cardio equipment. Better yet, there is a room with treadmills where you can also play backgammon.
CJ Wolfe
If you're staying at a local hotel, NOAC has a $20 visit with proof (show room key). Accepts cash and credit but towels are $1. Hotels seems largely ignorant of this deal but would do well to promote it when their fitness center is a lie (looking at you Omni hotel! Update your website pictures!)
The layout is eclectic, no elevator, so walk all the floors before you commit your workout to old equipment or a substitution exercise in your routine because they have everything: boxing ring, trx, power racks, all your CrossFit bullsh!t, etc.
The old building and aging generations of equipment mean corners of dust and grime but it somehow adds to the historic vibe. Including an off limits museum of old Venice beach weights and circus dumbbells. Makes me want to do a steinborn lift!
Membership is something like $90/m and I understand it's a 1 year commitment. They have a pool and sauna/steam room, bar and some nice private spaces. Cool place to visit. Weekend hours advertised as opening at 8am but people were scanning in well before 8am on a Saturday without a second glance.
Undo what NOLA does to your body at NOAC!
Ethan Gabriel Abaya
NOAC deserves a 5/5 rating as they are offering a complete set of equipment perfect for any workout. Moreover, I have to commend their staff for being so welcoming.

Most special, spacious, relaxing, wide-ranging, and clean athletic club we ever joined. We used to live in NYC before and got to know a bunch of gyms / clubs. Alas, this is the best one of all.
Four floors of everything anyone could ask, even an indoor running track, a marble pool, squash courts, boxing rink, and a ballroom.
Five complete stars -- a real body & mind gem 👑

Absolutely love calling Athletic Club my gym!! The old architecture with new workout technology paired with an amazing pool and fabulous amenities is just what a club should be in one of the most amazing cities. ⚜️💜💚⚜️ …
Peachy Academics
The weekly ‘Trainer Tuesday’ segment introduces us, sporty individuals to the history or identity of NOAC’s very own trainer who give their best in every sport activity they’re in.
Simon Richard
Fantastic!! The trainers personally approaches us, giving us good tips in doing a great work out. I will definitely go back here to try more of their services.
daniel matthew
I was there in NOAC last week, and I can say that they value their clients through their unforgetable accomodations. Good job!
Ulienee Lleonor Certeza
Real-life statements from other reviewers motivate other people, including me to try more of NOAC facilities and athletic services.
Adam Lester
Long story short? Great place if you can afford it. Let me be clear, this is NOT a gym for you if you're low income.
It's a good gym with tons of equipment, trainers and even a bar. The staff is very courteous. Plenty of free classes all run by dedicated professionals in their respective fields.
**On the other hand, make sure that you can afford it and also that you read the fine print.**
Currently, they're trying to withdraw from my account even though I don't have the money and when I tried to explain the situation they shrugged their shoulders, told me the system was automated and it was out of their hands.
When I said I wanted to just cancel my membership, they said I couldn't cancel until November. When I asked if I could suspend it, the response was that I could 1) if my account was current 2) if I was willing to owe them for all the months my account was suspended (and you can only opt to suspend it for 6 months).
And if you're a businessman looking to put a hold on their membership whilst traveling abroad who regards $300 as pocket change and views the gym as just another luxury, that's fine. If you're part of the $10-15 per hour crowd who fell on hard times, not so much. And they will not work with you.
I have nothing against the staff or the place personally and will continue to use it as much my schedule will allow me to...not like I have a choice...but make sure you know what you're getting into. It's a rich man's gym and if you're not in that socio-economic bracket I strongly advise against joining.
Yenny Certeza
The recently uploaded Weekly Fitness Challenge for this month of November motivated me to get back on track!

Great place to workout. Amazing building. The pool is very unique.
JC H
Been a member here for a few years. They are updating the facilities and equipment which is great. Very easy and quiet. Everyone is there to work out, not to bother you while you try to work out. Its definitely more expensive than other gyms but generally feels worth it. The hours of the gym itself and the classes aren't totally friendly for my lifestyle which is why it only gets 4 stars from me.
Justin Hauser
I love this place. It is so much more than a gym. The staff is friendly and helpful, Jordan was great to work with when I signed up. The building is always clean. Anything that needs maintenance seems to be taken care of in a timely manner. The price is the only downfall. In my opinion after working out a few months there, it's worth it.
contessabordeaux
This is the best place to work out in New Orleans. The price is well worth what you receive. 4 parking lots available to members for use during hours, four levels and a multitude of rooms and private spaces for great workouts with use of the most up to date equipment. The pool is gorgeous, the 47 classes they offer per week are outstanding, the locker room is relaxing with a steam room/sauna/unbelievable water pressure and vanity area with blow dryers and hair spray. Unbelievable customer service, and a friendly security guard will walk you to your car at night. I would never go anywhere else, this is my new home.
Liz Kimbrough
I call it the fitness palace! I love all the separate spaces and rooms. Love that there's a woman's only room. Sauna and steam room are a bonus. I also find the atmosphere very LGBT friendly. I would spend all day here if I could.
Mark Clark
A member for over 3 years now. Stress free, humble gym with all the amenities, and classes you could ask for. Covid-19 safety protocols set in place make me feel super safe, and comfortable working out during this time.
Henry Spradley
I've been a member for about 5 years. Sometimes can get crowded and isn't necessarily designed for serious weightlifters, but the charm and aesthetics of the gym completely outshine these downfalls. Whenever I tell my guests they should come visit my gym, they raise an eyebrow. When they see the gym itself they can't believe it, and it is consistently one of the favorite stops. Truly a special place.
Kimberley Hannaman Taylor
Awesome, beautiful, pleasant, historic space and no annoying music. The pool is gorgeous! Yoga in the ballroom makes you feel like a princess! Wish the women's locker room was as nice as the men's is reported to be but otherwise I wouldn't consider another club!
Jocelyn Duncan
Very aesthetically pleasing place with great machines. A little on the expensive side but the location and amenities make it well worth it. There's a women's only weight room, a beautiful marble pool, a sauna and a steam room (both closed at the moment for Covid-19), workout classes in a ballroom,a bar, an inhouse spa. It's lovely place to get in shape. I was worried about cultural diversity but members appear to be ver which is fine in my opinion.diverse if not on the old/middle age side
Elizabeth Feona Perry (Feona)
Been coming here since May and I love it so much! Lots of classes, equipment, pool, steam room and sauna in each locker room, day use and yearly lockers, towel service, free coffee. The friendly and knowlegable staff trainers, and instructors are always willing to assist with questions. Never a quite moment unless you want one, at the bar or lounge around by the pool , take a yoga class or drink in the breathe taking views of the french quarter on the rooftop! Well worth the investment ! Stop in and see Chelsea or George to take a tour and sign up, you will not regret it! See you on the Green!
Raven Carr
Love this gym! Great customer service, tons of classes, plenty of equipment, and I love the steam room and sauna. Highly recommend!!
Ratskel Woods
I love my membership with NOAC! The staff are always the best! The gym is kept very tidy and the diversity of members make it a comfortable
place to work out. The people that left bad reviews are silly... yes the building is historic and I suppose has a “smell” which I find to be inoffensive and even somewhat pleasant. Anybody that has an issue with a buildings “smell” might be better suited for the suburban sprawl. Also, NOAC is a members
Only club so I am sorry tourists this is not the place for you which why as a native this is the place for me! ;) NOAC is 100% worth it.
free feral
Gosh the pool is so nice but membership is really so expensive ($90 a month!). The steam room and sauna and pool are really the only ones in town that i know of. The pool is salt water... Gosh it's nice. But the expense really doesn't make sense to me. Also in skeptical of the places history as its been there for a very long time and only opened up to women in the 90's. The racial history of the place is curiously absent from the website and Wikipedia
Farris McManus
Huge space with multiple levels offering almost any gym equipment you would ever need. The pool is awesome. Year long contract is required and probably the only major downside. Did I mention this athletic club has a bar?? Only in NOLA
Vaughn D. Taylor
I've been a member at NOAC for 7 or 8 years. They regularly improve the equipment, the place is huge, and the staff is great. The gym even has a bar -- named Vaughan's -- and they serve adult beverages. How much more classic New Orleans can you get?!
Anthony Zimbicki
Coolest gym I've ever seen. The facility is old NOLA with tons of character & charm, it's like a functioning museum. All nice equipment, pool, and a BAR that rivals any in the French Quarter
Claire Trimble
I love this gym. It is so very New Orleans. Historic building, chandeliers, a library, a bar, group classes in a ballroom and real people from all walks of life. But if you're looking for a florescent, plastic, mirrored, 24/7 chain gym this is not for you.
Jay Peloquin
Noac Member - I love my athletic club. I'm always greeted warmly at.the door. The dressing room is always in immaculate condition. and the other members are awesome, and more than willing to help you during group exercise. We really enjoy the environment and the people. Not to mention my body is a wonderland. I've never felt better. Thanks NoAC
Golden Dream
Great atmosphere and friendly stuff! Thank you
Eric Gagnet
Fantastic gym. Whether it's wine after yoga, jazzercise in a historic ballroom, or running a treadmill under a crystal chandelier the amenities are just as spectacular as the building
Lyn Kieltyka
The club has done everything reasonable to male this a safe environment during COVID. As before, the equipment is excellent and there seems to be plenty of space for effective social distancing.

The New Orleans Athletic Club (NOAC) is a special health club. You just don't find them like this anywhere in the country. I can't believe the reviews I see here! Some people obviously don’t appreciate the finer historic buildings and would rather a brightly colored, techno playing gym to visit. 1) I am not and employee of the club, but rather a member. 2) This is one of the oldest operating health clubs in the entire country. The building is historic and located in the historic French Quarter of New Orleans. The place is absolutely beautiful and HUGE! You are in no hurry to leave this lovely facility and I find I can stay and work out for longer because I enjoy being there. 3) This is not just a gym, hence the name: New Orleans Athletic CLUB. This is a club for members ONLY. You may visit the club and use the facilities as a guest of member. You can not however, just get a day pass. This place does not operated that way. This is out of respect for the members who are upstanding members of the community. If you would like a tour, the staff would be happy to show you around if you are interested in membership. There is a full bar, library, salon, poker room area, indoor heated pool, boxing ring, steam and sauna rooms, racket ball court, ballroom. I could go on and on. 4) This is not a modern gym, but they do have modern equipment. If you like those over crowded, brightly colored, plain, blah gyms with just workout equipment, this place is NOT for you. This place is multi floors, many rooms and areas to work out and feel like you are not crowded. They offer many different group exercise classes which is included in your membership. 4) Some complained here about the cancellation policy or other policies. EVERYTHING is outlined is your agreement and explained when you sign up. If you do not agree with their policies, go elsewhere. No one is forcing you to be a member. 5) As far as feeling unwelcome… what??? All I can say about that is there must be a reason. This club prides itself on keeping out trouble makers, disreputable and questionable characters. I thank them for that. That alone is worth their fees which is around $80/month. I’ve never had anything stolen and have had many things returned to me that I accidentally left behind. The good thing about the bad reviews I see here is that none of these people are members of the NOAC anymore. I’m glad they found somewhere else to be because they don’t belong at the NOAC. This is special place for people who appreciate not on the historic value of the building, but the vastness of space, variety of classes, up-to-date equipment and the quality of the overall experience which is truly a New Orleans one.
David Morris
Established in 1872, the NOAC is one of the oldest athletic clubs in America. Originally exclusively for men. A bit pricey compared to other fitness clubs, but worth it.
Edward Miller
First class facility in a beautiful historic location. There is nothing else like it anywhere in the area. Good management and staff. Ronnie at the front desk always has a smile. Easily 5 stars.
Joshua Beck
This is the most fantastic gym I have ever belonged to. The reconnect isn't always top notch but the atmosphere is something I really enjoy.

I've been a member for about 7 months now...First, the facilities are beautiful and the staff is knowledgeable and transparent-- they also make you feel very welcome when doing the initial walk through. I love that they have a bar and library because I work from home and sometimes it's nice to get away!
All that said, I wanted to leave this review because I've seen a lot of reviews complaining about the way the staff handles contracts during financial hardship (especially coming out of COVID). Under most circumstances, I would agree, especially if someone is being denied an essential service for non-payment. However, the staff is MORE than transparent up front that the one year contract will auto-renew if you don't meet the deadline for cancellation. I don't see anything wrong with that so long as they aren't trying to hide behind legal jargon and are making sure their members are informed, which in my experience is exactly what happened.
The $90 a month is MORE than worth it. My biggest advice: Don't sign a contract without understanding what you're getting yourself into. If you are not in a position to pay $90 a month for at least one year, there are other gyms with month to month options-- and last, make sure to set your calendar for your cancellation deadline-- it goes by fast and if you miss it you'll be stuck with another year (which again, is totally worth it!!)
