Reviews of Tettegouche State Park
TinaEh VangLee
A beautiful place to hike and enjoy nature. There are bathrooms here and they are fairly clean. The gift store has a nice selection of items. The employees are very nice. The paved trails are very easy to navigate through and they are very clean. There are multiple trails that lead outside from the paved trail. There is a lot of parking spots but expect it to be full. We got lucky and found one in the main lot. We did not go to the other lot.
Per the state park employee, You do not need to pay for a permit as long as you're on the main lot. If you go pass the bridge to the other lot, you will need a permit.
Overall, a very easy paved path and a very neat view of the area. Would highly recommend making a stop here if you love hiking.

This is a great state park situated about an hour drive north of Duluth, MN and just past Two Harbors. The visitor center is beautiful and recently updated, with good facilities and plenty of interactive and historical things to see inside. It also has firewood for sale in a covered shed. Shovel Point and Baptism River Mouth are great places to see and are both less than a mile walk from the visitor center. It’s the perfect place to see some of the best views along Lake Superior.
Jennifer Aho Veit
Barely saw 10% of the park with so many trails and beautiful water views of the river and lake. We will be back! Hot day in June so lots of folks swimming in the lake on trails near the visitor center. Well groomed trails throughout and good accessibility to Shovel Point with the boardwalk stairs going out and up there. Did not see any wheelchair or stroller navigable trails to the viewpoint however. Be sure to grab a trail map from the visitor center before setting out!!
Blaine Krugerud
So much to see! The hiking is great and the trails are well marked. Even tho it was quite warm, the trails are well shaded which really helped. We saw numerous waterfalls, then went to the west side of the park and hiked into the camp. Seeing the old cabins (which you can stay in when you make reservations) and reading of the interesting history really made it a fun experience. 😊
Robert
Great park, some great hiking paths. One of the best views on the shore(shovel point). It a reasonable hike a little bit over a mile there and back. But to be warned there a great number of stairs. Only complaint is the big beautiful relative new visitor center need to be open.
Dawn Alberts
High Falls was beautiful and the swinging bridge is a unique experience! Love that you get to see the falls from different angles. In early May the trails were still a little snowy and icy, but they are passable if you come prepared.
Jared Little
This is a lovely State Park. Lots of trails. Very interesting history of the place. Nice waterfalls and fun places overlooking Lake superior. Everything is very clean in the new visitor center is top notch. Campsites were neat and quiet. Also, staff are very friendly and helpful.
If I was to critique anything, it would be things need some updating, but everything was in good working order. I hate the press and hold shower button, but it worked as it was designed to.
Just a beautiful place. Great for getting away and close to many beautiful North Shore sites.
Taylor Steiner
Variety of scenery at this park. Multiple waterfalls, cliffs, rivers, and beaches. The hike to Hi falls was in great shape though the bridge at the top was temporarily closed due to flooding. However you could still get full views of the waterfall. Two step falls was the second waterfall along the hike. Nice visitor center with a gift shop.
Will Durman
The hike to Shovel Point has a lot of steps but the woods are lovely. There's a lot to enjoy on the trail. The view from Shovel Point is awesome. We also got to stop on a beach along the way, climb the rock formations, and hang out with a dozen frogs.
Randy Benton
Made a stop here to hike up to High Falls and Two Step Falls. Was my very first visit and couldn't have been more impressed. Hit up the Visitor Center before starting the hike. Was very open and "homey". The trail had decent signage and the falls were spectacular !! Highly recommend !!

Fantastic state park. Excellent hikes, views, and of course lattes at the park office. The office building is open after hours for restrooms and vending as well as a gift shop during business hours.
You can start at least 3 hikes from the visitor center parking lot, shovel point, falls, and baptism river. Shovel point has the best Lake Superior views of cliffs and overlooks in the park. Nearby be sure to go to palisade head just south.
Baptism river hike shows where the river meets the lake and has river access early on and views of the river. From here the falls trail continues through thick forest with limited views. It has a few access points to the river, two step falls, and finally the waterfall. There are steep, muddy, wet steps to get to these access points. The fall trail for us ends at the falls as the bridge was possibly damaged.
If you have one place to stop on the north shore this is it.

This is a very good state park in Duluth with plenty of places to hike. The campgrounds here are well maintained and wasn't very hard to find. Perfect for a week to month camp. The near town two harbours is Just 15 mins drive.
Azhar Malik
A beautiful park with so many hiking trails each offering something unique. Would recommend spending a whole day here exploring different trails. There are a handful of waterfalls as well as beaches on Lake Superior located within this park
Ishara Waduge
The hike to cascade falls was not easy. Lots of stairs. We asked what we could do with two babies in the strollers, they said high falls trail is even harder so we did the hike to the cascades, had to carry the babies. The hike goes along the creek. The cascade falls isn't as pretty as high falls. It's little over 1.5 miles round trip from parking lot. Parking lot was full by 11 am on Saturday. The visitor center is also busy and the restrooms were messy. I honestly think there are other calmer, nicer places in North Shore.
Dylan Kleckner
Waterfall season!! Brisk mornings and beautiful afternoons. The rivers were the the highest I’ve seen in years and waterfalls were bursting. Walk-in spot 23, close to the parking area and falls trailhead. Beautiful snowshoe hares about in the campground.
Terrie Dignan
This is by far one of my favorite State Parks. If you like long hikes and great views, definitely a must.
I take this park in at least once a year.
Pandamor
We couldn't really see the falls, it was also really confusing.
The walk was really long about a 1.2 miles from the fall and back, it wasn't really worth the walk but it was pretty non the less.
I wouldn't recommend it to people with back problems or people in wheel chairs since the path is very rough and there are stairs at the view point.
There was people at the bottom of the fall but we couldn't figure out how to get down there.
The bridge was also still closed due to flood damage.
Bob Ryan
Even though there were lots of visitors, it doesn't feel crowded. The trails are very well maintained. Waterfall is breathtaking. The paths were loaded with wildflowers and raspberries (but I kept eating them rather than taking pictures!)
Jeif Kahlstorf
This is such a beautiful area with great views, hikes, and amenities.
A great location to see the sites, stop for short break, or a quick hike. Options close to parking so also great for anyone with mobility concerns.
Hue
Short hike and stunning views. Clean bathrooms and information center, great for stretching out the legs for your trip along Lake Superior.
Lizsandra Edwards
Amazing state park! The best part? The views of course. Everywhere you look is just beautiful. We had a fun time skipping rocks on the water. The worst part? There can be a lot of walking but just depends on how far you want to go.
J Fro
We parked at the trailhead and hiked to High Falls. Unfortunately, the swinging bridge was closed so we couldn't cross over the falls. The High Falls were worth seeing but there weren't many angles to see them since the bridge was closed. The Two Step Falls, on the other hand, were our favorite of the two. A sign nearby states that you have to climb 200 stairs/steps to see Two Step Falls, but it's worth it if you're able to climb that much. Also, the visitor center for this park is probably the best one we've been to.
Virginia VanKeulen
Nicely maintained, beautiful visitor center. Great waterfalls and views. Went on a Sunday afternoon in August, it was busy but not crazy.
P L
Beautiful park. The Cascade waterfall was beautiful, and I love that the area is flat enough for people to actually sit or walk on and enjoy the scenery and sun in the summer.
Catherine Benziger
Took the family on a quick hike to Shovel Point. Just over 1 mile round trip but with at least 180 stairs. Nice trail but not for those with bad knees. Great panoramic views. Highly recommend.
Tarun Shetty
Worth visiting this place. Have come here twice & always feels relaxing around nature. It takes a short 20 mins hike(hike has steps so child stroller might be difficult)to reach to the top from where you can enjoy the beautiful view of the lake superior. It has a prsitine view points.
Shirley Alex
Hiked to Shovel point ,Baptism River and High falls.Bring some good hiking shoes, high falls is 3 miles total but worth the view.Go early as the parking at visitor center fills up fast.
Millie W
This park is a perfect gem among many other gems in the Minnesota State Park system! Lots of campsites, although they are almost always full every night, so plan ahead! There is a wonderful visitor center, the campgrounds are surprisingly varied in their "feel", there are still good tent-camping sites (it hasn't all been turned over to RVers), and all the trails we saw were well marked for direction and distance. Some trails are obviously much more challenging than others, but they try to make details available about that too.
We did not even have time to explore even half of what we wanted to, because we could only get a site for one night. We didn't start planning early enough and will have to plan a return trip soon!
Amy Curphy
Great short hike to the falls, and a nice longer trail around if you want to go farther. Very pretty views!
John Billman
Lodge is nice and modern and has multiple nice pieces of artwork.
Hike to shovel Point is well worth the time. High falls is also worth the trip if you have a bit more time.
Quincy Blackwell
This park is huge. Ilgen Falls, Shove Point, High Falls, etc! So much to explore you couldn’t possibly do it in one visit! New visitor center is really nice as well!!
Brooks Wildlife
Beautiful and amazing park. I got tons of photos of migratory warblers and other birds here. The trails are well maintained.
Brenden Dominick
Very clean facilities and nicely maintained trails! The view is breathe taking! The trails are easier for people not as active, but there is a good amount of stairs.
John Walker
This is a wonderful state park with nice trails. I especially liked the Baptism River with the waterfalls and the Lake Superior views.
Sophia Siegel
Been here several times from out of state and love it everytime! We went hiking and climbing! Absolutely beautiful and relaxing state park. Beautiful falls as well. Was lucky enough to see the northern lights!
Celina Grimes
First time this far ‘up north’ for hiking and it was breathtaking. Already planning another visit for next year. Only went on 2 trails, eager to explore more. Get there early to find a spot to park as the lot fills up quickly. Highly recommend.
Laura Schulz
So many options for all sorts of hiking abilities! There are no shortage of amazing views and activities. A must visit!

4/10/22 - We only had a few hours before sunset, and we were tired from earlier hikes during the day. So we only did the High falls trail. From the Tettegouche State Park Visitor center, we drove to the high falls trailhead parking lot (about 5 mins drive). From there it is roughly a 1.6 miles total round trip (not a loop) to the falls and back. Before the falls, there is the suspension bridge from where you can see the falls from the back side. To see the falls from the front, continue forward from the bridge, make the small climb and then descend down 83 stairs to curve around and reach the bottom of the falls to get the full view. Moderate hike since it was snow everywhere and slippery. It was really gorgeous.
Also, you are supposed to have a permit to do the hike. Payment info is on the notice board that is right before you start the hike.

Hike to the falls is quite a trip, at least the trail that was open. Found an eye agate, too! Beautiful place. Saw two men doing some fishing, plenty of them swirling around in the river, too!
Jamie Nestroyl
Exceeded our expectations by a mile!! We hiked for hours, and it was beautiful. Falls were fantastic. The suspension bridge was really cool. We went later in the evening, so few people - very peaceful. We saw tons of wildlife, including grouse and lynx! Will absolutely go again.
Aaron Snyder
Came for the climbing in all seriousness. We hit up Shovel Point and climbed for the next 6 hours. What. A. View. Lake Superior water on a perfect day is amazing. We did Rise Over Run, The Great Yawn and as many routes as we could handle on Dance of the Sugar-Plum Faeries. Had to save the best for last. The hike up was minimal, paths were well taken care of and didn't see a bit of garbage out of place. Will definitely be back. Keep doing you, Tettegouche!
Jason O'Connor
Very gorgeous area. Very well kept and lots of hiking. Fly from Cleveland OH to see it and was well worth the trip.
Kali Pelham
A must-stop spot along the North Shore. The rest area is right off of 61, convenient to access and a great place to get a view of the North Shore. We like to hike out to Shovel Point, stop at the gift shop and check out the art on the walls of the visitor center. Today we hiked 1.5 miles(round trip) to Cascade Falls. It was a scenic hike along the river with some steep steps up to the falls.
Ryan
Awesome! We went there on a foggy day and we were short on time, so we only made it to the high falls and shovel point view but it was great! There are a lot of steps up and down so be prepared for a workout.
Mr. Solo Yolo
Live in MN all my life n never explored here, so it my first time n love it. Lots of place to hike n explore. Fall colors leave are awesome too
Kyle Wright
Great place to get some exercise and hiking in the area. Two falls on one main trail. Two Step Falls has 200 stairs, so be prepared. High Falls has 83 stairs. About 3 mile round trip from park office to high falls.
ja berg
On North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota. Great place for hiking and has Baptism Campground if you want to stay overnight.
marie
Beautiful July day during our visit and we enjoyed the shaded trails to high falls. It was a perfect summer day and we met a lot of nice hikers.
Aalok Gautam
Parking spots are limited at visitor center. Shovel point is must see - be careful as many cliff points has no guardrails. High falls has good amount of walk (it’s long 1.5 mile walk). Falls is ok as there are more better falls in this area. Two step fall is average and it has 200 steps up and down. Overall park is great.
Sydney Popelka
We hiked the Cascade Falls (1.5 mi) trail with our 3 dogs. Started out very foggy but Tettegouche is beautiful in any weather. We intended to hike to High Falls (3 mi) trail but we found out there are 2 routes to Cascade Falls and one of the routes doesn’t let you continue to High Falls, we had to turn back so lesson learned! Not sure we would take dogs through the trails again, the paths are very narrow so if you meet anyone it’s hard to pass by each other. Overall, it’s beautiful and we hope to be back for more trails!
Adam
Amazing get away with my wife. We were avid hikers and recently moved back, this place was a joy to explore and quite relaxing in places.
Paul Karels
Wonderful! The High Falls are definitely worth the trek up & down the stairs and hike! So beautiful! We camped in a walk-in site so it was a bit more secluded, but still not too far from the others. Will definitely go there again!
Philip Hughes
This is easily my favorite state Park! My wife and I stayed here for a week and hiked the trails to see the falls. They are breathtaking, both literally and figuratively. The trails are on mountainous terrain so you may experience shortness of breath, but the views are well worth it! The facilities at the campground are great, clean and well maintained. RV campsites are spaced far apart, so you can't really see your neighbors. The main office is right on hwy 61 and is large. They have a little coffee shop and gift shop too. It is also a great launching pad to explore the other amazing state parks along the north shore. This place is a can't miss!
Balksta
Fantastic! Different kinds of trails to go on that are fairly sized and have amazing views. Would very much recommend!
Jason Moeller
This park is rugged and fun. Plenty of hiking, beautiful country and Lake Superior. Cart-in camping offers privacy. Remember to book well in advance.
Dusty Creech
Best State Park to Visit in the Area (if you like nature, waterfalls and nature's beauty)
This park is a winner...and is great for kids!
(RECOMMEND wearing swim clothing/water shoes if u visit the falls/natural pools)
We visited this park for the waterfalls and trails. We began our visit with a picnic lunch at the parks covered picnic shelter. After enjoying lunch we visited the welcome center/gift shop to get park maps and use the facilities. And off we went to HIGH FALLS (approximately 1.5 mile hike to the falls) and well worth it...simply beautiful.
There is NO supervision at the falls and a kid can be a kid. Or a brave adult can be a brave adult as was evident by the minimal hikers cliff jumping from rock outcropping on the right side of the falls as you are looking upstream into the natural pool below.
Wildlife is all around you beit minnows that swim up to your feet or crawfish scurrying around. This is just a tranquil place to visit and see.
Split Falls was also nice. My wife hiked from Split Falls to High Falls along the river.
Definitely recommended!
Lindsay Calar
Butterflies welcome you in (summer) and it's a beautiful walk up, down, and through a forest. Many stairs so be prepared but totally worth it. Beautiful look out points and beautiful falls. Look for crayfish at the base of the falls.
Alexandre Hudson (Alex)
Amazing. I only trekked a small portion of the many trails available in this gem of a State Park. The Campground was full, which I take as a good sign. The hikes has some inclines and many stairs, but were not so challenging to deter anyone from the awesome views of the falls and river, particularly. The visitor center boasts many outdoor picnic style tables and is well equipped on the inside, as well.
Amos Self
Water levels back up, the 3 waterfalls on one mile and a half hike we great. High Falls especially was breathtaking!
marc
Great visitor center with gift shop. Helpful friendly staff. The short hike to Shovel Point was worth it!
DAVID GLASSMAN
Beautiful park / waterfalls - we visited after severe flooding and the swinging bridge was closed. Definitely worth visiting.
Rae James
Well worth the drive! High falls is incredibly beautiful and peaceful. It's very fun to try and catch the crayfish! Bringing some water shoes or sandals so you can wade through is recommended.
Shovel point has a gorgeous lookout where you can trace the coast with splendid water color. The paths are well taken care of but the high falls is slightly tougher.
We bought the parking pass to shortcut to the falls. I'd recommend it.
Sarah Ruth
Visitors center is brand new and the nicest I've every seen. Comfortable seating, fireplace, small deli, gift shop, conference center, and nice bathrooms. Trails at "medium to difficult" are a work out!
Maura L
Great park and great hiking trails. Really great views.
David Berggren
Loved the visit, the views are great and easily accessible for even younger children!
Rodrigo Castilho
Great views of the lake here. Was not planning to stop here, but luckily I did. Totally worth it. Planning my next trip here 😌 …
Lukasz (Luke)
A very popular and well equipped state park! All of Minnesota’s state parks have such great facilities! Lots of picnic areas, showers, gift shops, campgrounds and more! If you would like to see more, I invite you to check out my Minnesota playlist on Youtube: Lukegee Travels
Don Davidson
Located on the Baptism River on Minnesota's North Shore, the park has at least 3 hiking trails--one to the mouth of the river where it empties into Lake Superior, a 3/4-mile one-way hike to The Cascades, and another to High Falls and Two Step Falls, which is 1.5 miles one way. Expect to do a lot of ups and downs on all 3 hikes. High Falls is the most spectacular of the 3 waterfalls. The Visitor Center has helpful staff, nice restrooms, a water bottle refill station, a comfortable sofa, and more. And it's all free.
J Mulhearn
Beautiful spot. The falls are amazing! Some flood damage. Park rangers were polite and knowledgeable.
Ashley Lyn
Always a great stop when traveling along the North Shore. The waves crashing against the shore and the nature is just pure beauty.
Trading Can Be Fun
I really enjoyed the hike and breathtaking views from Shovel Point. Highly recommended...!
Luke Gorski
If you are looking for a hike with tons of scenic overlooks, this is the place for you to go. We did the outer loop which totaled 15 miles and there were more than 15 overlooks, averaging more than 1 per mile. Palisade Valley is definitely the best one (of the ones we tried, there were probably 10 more that we didn't hit). So if you're looking for a shorter hike than 15 miles, be sure to include it. Shovel Point is a pretty cool spot too, not to mention Palisade Head. The trails are in amazing condition, not really grassy or muddy or anything like that, super pleasant.
Mark Meyer
Awesomeness!! Hiked to Two Step Falls and
High Falls, Superior Beach and Shovel Point. Way to much fun.
Spencer Olson
This is one of my favorite Minnesota state parks! Climbing all the steps to shovel point is well worth the effort, quite the view.
Travis Jones
Always amazing, some very easy hikes and some harder hikes!
Kathryn Dahlstrom
Gorgeous! Pounding falls and rapids on the Baptism River and trails that also lead to high bluffs overlooking Lake Superior. The longer hikes are challenging in that you're climbing lots of wooden stairs at the steep rises. Other than that they're well groomed dirt trails. Loved it!
Steph D
Awesome park. From the visitor center there are hiking trails that don't require a permit. The center is not open at this time, but restrooms are and you can purchase daily and annual permits. To the east you get gorgeous Lake Superior views, and west there are waterfalls. Moderate challenge hiking trails were lots of fun.
A Meza
Perfect, cart in camping spots are quiet, private, and affordable! High recommend
Kate Wigley
This place is MAGICAL!!! Camping on the cliffs of Superior truly cannot be matched. Just be aware the weather can change on a dime, and pack accordingly! The cart-in sites provide great carts to transport your stuff, but pack light because it’s about a 20ish minute haul each way, depending on which site you’re at. Tettagouche sunsets are the thing of dreams, and this entire park is a beautiful adventure. Would strongly recommend!!
Ashley Brooks
Amazing park with great hikes, gorgeous views and a wondeful visitor center!
Danny Stoltman
Top 3 mn state parks if not number one
Martin LaVenture
This is a beautiful State park along the Baptism river and shore of Lake Superior. We visited in later September at the peak period of Fall color. We enjoyed the easy hike to the mouth of the river and to the end of Shovel Point. Later we hiked to the high falls on the Baptism river. The yellow, and red colors of the leaves were beautiful. Going after the first frost kept the bugs to a minimum. We will hike more of the trails next time.
Shannon Obrien
Absolutely amazing park! One side had perfect views of Lake Superior and the other has a fantastic forest hike to High Falls. Just be prepared for A LOT of stairs!
Adam Livingston
Gorgeous park, couldn't recommend more
Nikki
Crazy Minnesotans, we did a two mile hike this weekend in sub zero temps. Was a blast. So beautiful. We have been in the fall as well and love this park. We were headed to see the High Falls, but the path was too treacherous at the end of the trail, so we needed to turn back. My husband was the smart one talking me back up the hill as I was clutching trees for support. Although we did not make it to the final destination, we truly enjoyed the journey.
Meggie D
Words cannot describe the views of this beauty!!! I could spend days here!! When taking the hikes plan some time to just sit and take it all in. So much we did not get to do and will be back for. Get there while the colors are gorgeous!!! But I bet its amazing all seasons!
Bindhiya Laxmi
Very beautiful park. The restroom is opened here and its clean. There are lots of hike trails and we did the easiest of them. The Shovel Point!! Its only 3/4 mile from the visitor area and it has well maintained steps. Anyone can easily hike this trail. The view of Lake Superior along with the fall color is spectacular. We loved this place.
Ariel Westad
Went off the beaten path a bit and really found some beautiful spots!! Although the regular trails are also beautiful!! 10 out of 10 recommend!
T W
Always love the short path to river and cliff side. Shocking to feel the drum like waves hitting the shores
Brianne Rogers
Super pretty park, everything is well maintained, and the visitor center is huge, it has picnic tables, and a lot of parking. You can camp here, hike, and swim. There is a really nice waterfall, and it is only about a half a mile hike from the campground trailhead, or about a 2.5 mile walk from the visitor center. This is definitely a nice spot for an easy day of hiking or just sightseeing in nature. The hiking to the water falls are very easy. Two Step Falls has stairs all the way down, and High Falls has a walkway and stairs as well, in places where the trail gets muddy. Super family friendly trails, not difficult at all, but gets your heart rate going:)
Don Brackett
Beautiful North Shore State Park anytime of year. Minnesota has a fabulous state park system.
Slwpdx
Roadside stop with tons of car parking. They have 6 RV designated parking spaces but the cars pull into them and take the whole space. Even going the wrong way. It's hard to maneuver an RV. Really thoughtless people.
Falls are beautiful to many people climbing all over them to get good pictures, again Really thoughtless people. Might be a great place when not crowded.
TJ Harig
Very beautiful state park. The park was extremely busy on labor day weekend but even with all the people there we did not see many. There are several different hiking trails with beautiful scenery and breath taking views of Lake Superior. I was disappointed that the gift shop was closed, but I guess that's 2020. The state of Minnesota would rather give money away rather than make it.
Thomas Herman
Awesome state park. Wonderful place to camp. Make reservations early though. Difficult to get in.
Chris Steinhaus
Great place! Great visitors center with very clean bathrooms, lots of tables to eat at outside of the center. Good size parking area. Trails are amazing, very easy to navigate and get around. A little muddy but not bad at all. Awesome views!
Tim Berneche
Beautiful place great hiking nice facilities
Samantha Cummings
Such a beautiful park!! We only did the Shovel Point hike but we could have spent all day here given more time. It is gorgeous. The cliffs and lookouts over Lake Superior breathtaking. I would not recommend Shovel Point for anyone that struggles with stairs...there are many many stairs both up and back down. The visitor center is wonderful, big, and clean with a great gift shop. The only downfall was parking. Considering the amount of people this park attracts, the parking was packed and hard to find a spot. Had to drive around for a while to snag a spot.
M K
All level hiking. Beautiful in the fall time.
Vivian Colbert
Nice park with visitor center open all night. Took a short hike to waterfall .
Don Davidson
Only hiked to the Cascades, not the other 2 waterfalls. Trail was wet and muddy, and is difficult in places, and there are a lot of steps, going both up and down. Good exercise, but the waterfall at the end was hard to see unless you are willing and able to clamber over some big rocks.
Glorkar Floki
This is a great park to stop at. The trails and falls in the area are definitely worth taking the time to check out.
The visitor center and rest rooms are cleaned and well maintained (which is a nice surprise after the drive to get to the area).
Mike Dahlke
Just did a little hiking to check out the waterfalls. Trails were great and the falls are pretty awesome. Wish we had more time to explore the miles of trails available.
July Vang
Tettegouche is a magnificent park! My friends and I enjoyed the moderate, unpaved hiking trail, and the countless stairs and fluctuating elevations were just enough for some leg strengthening. High Falls and Two Step Falls were rewarding views to soak in, and the water was low enough for a quick dip for some of us. We finished a little over 6 miles on our hike.
The park wasn't too congested, which is nice, and it seems well maintained.
***Bring bug spray for mosquitoes, but do prepare for good coverage against horse flies. Bug spray doesn't deter them, and their bites will give you a good pinch.***
dieboy
Visitor center is partially open, restrooms and ability to buy a park pass. Lower parking is easier as it provides instant trail access to both trails going up the hill and down/then up the shoreline and beach area.
Trail going up the hill takes you to the lower part or upper part of the falls. Both have nice views. Lower falls is a rough 200 steps, they don't kid. I'd say'd high falls is a bit tamer. Shore side trail has some excellent views and the beach area. That is also the marked hiking club trail.
Kristen Harrington
Such a beautiful place! Be prepared for stairs!
Eric Nistler
Neat MN State Park. Main attractions are the lakeshore and waterfalls. There are some secluded cabins as well that are off the beaten path around the back of the park on Micmac Lake but they need to be booked way ahead of time to get any availability.
Tracey Janisch
Definitely worth making the trip. The waterfalls are amazing and you could just sit there for hours. If you can't handle a lot of steps then I definitely do not recommend going. You will go up and down a lot so if you have little children then it can be a workout. I would highly recommend bringing swimming wear because you are going to want to go into the waterfalls. Bring lots of water with you. They also have a nice little gift shop along with coffee shop. Make sure you give yourself a few hours because you are not going to want to leave once you see everything.
Justin Pearson
So much beauty at this park. Great for rock climbing and nature lovers alike. This is the second time I went in 2 years. I would love to do some camping in this area. It can be very windy and cold being off of Lake Superior. I love this park!
Dorian Warner
This is one of the most impressive state parks my wife and I have been too. Lots of hiking opportunities. My wife and I hiked the high falls and two step falls trails, it had spectacular views and two great waterfalls. It’s a perfect distance for a morning hike at 5 miles with lots of inclines and declines and one of the coolest swinging bridges ever. I think it would a bit challenging with children just due to distance but if your looking to wear them out.....perfect, lol. We came across some very fresh moose tracks but never saw the moose. The park staff was kind and informative and the facilities were very clean and well kept. Two thumb and four paws up.

This is a really pretty place. We actually only went on top of a really high area and picked berries. That already made it pretty. They have miles of trails going to waterfalls. The tallest waterfall in Minnesota is located here. You can hike for a while to get to the waterfalls and you can also swim here. They don't recommend swimming but people still do. I will add lots of pictures of what we did do. The view we got was beautiful. We were on top of a tall cliff picking blueberries. It was such an awesome view of Lake Superior and lots of surrounding areas. It is very dangerous though, at the edge of the cliff there is a (I'm guessing) 100ft drop onto rocks. And even if you hit the water, there are still rocks, and the water alone would probably kill you. They don't have any fences holding you back from falling. So definently don't bring kids here. With all the rocks around there it is easy to trip and fall, possibly rolling down and off the cliff. But still, it was beautiful.
Slsclimbhgts Minneapolis
Awesome walking trails with steps, handrails for more even, safe hiking. Beautiful views of the cliff walls. It also features a large visitor center that serves food and sells essentials with modern bathroom facilities.
Jordan Walls
Any time of year, it itches the nature-lover's & hiker's scratch! A sight to behold!
Amanda Haugstad
Awesome park with stunning views! Great hikes and a very helpful staff at the visitor center. It was fun to hike to Shovel Point and see the view of Palisade Head, and then later drive up to Palisade Head and look back at the view of Shovel Point. And High Falls is beautiful! Will definitely visit again.
Teri S
I have never been to this park, It was absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend it. There are trails going all over the place to enjoy the Beauty of Lake Superior and other hidden gems. It is also the location of the Baptisim River Falls. We did not make it to see the falls this time Round, But we will be back.
There is also a large open indoor area for you to be able use the bathrooms, find out more information on the park and also a cute little gift shop.
Noah Gottlieb
Can't beat the north shore when in MN. Tettegouche has awesome trails as well as campsites that actually feel private, cant see your neighbors from most sites. I wish more mn state parks had the kind of screen between sites that this place does.
Josh
A really nice park to visit any time of year. My favorite trail is shovel point, which is convenient because you can access it from permit free parking at the entrance. It has a huge visitor's center now, if you are into that sort of thing. Keep an eye out for wolves on the trails in the winter.
Jason Anderson
Had a great time dispite the fog. Clean park and clean rest rooms. Very important for sure. Worth the 7.5 miles we walked. Family friendly for sure.
Tomas Elke
If you're up for the challenge, the cart in campsites here offer some views of superior that not everyone will ever get to see. Some of those sites overlook cliffs, others have semi-private beaches. Oddly, however, some of the sites aren't as secluded as campsites at even some non-cart in sites I've been to, so if you have a protective dog as I do, be prepared for them to alert you often. Unfortunately, there seems to be a recurring pattern of people who get these sites, but don't vacate them when they are required to, so you may have to contact the ranger, and you may have to wait longer than you should have had to. This isn't the parks fault, but it happened to us, to another person camping the next night in a different site, and we met other people there that had similar experiences in the past. Its probably because the campsites are so cool they don't want to leave and just hope the next person doesn't show up. Who knows, really though.
Anyway, there are also several points of interest that are accessible within walking distance of the park office. The high falls, two step falls, and shovel point. There's also a beach at the river inlet that people like. The trails are muddy, sometimes slipery, and there is no end to the stairs which are seemingly everywhere. However, like most of northern Minnesota, it's worth the hike to see the views.
There's also the palisade head which is a few miles away, and black beach.
Sydney Livingston
Beautiful tourist destination. Does require a bit of a hike but not too bad! If you want to go to the bottom of the waterfall it will take some time. Not too busy when we went on a Friday, most people were respectful and made room for eachother when passing. Parking wasn’t hard to find at all, only thing was we had to go somewhere else first to get a parking pass thing. Other than that, amazing place!!
NinjaBaby Killer
Great place to camp even the cart in sites where you haul in your stuff a quarter mile on small carts with big bicycle tires. Very beautiful park and well maintained.
Jessica Sakamoto
Absolutely stunning fall colors right now! Also really thankful the visitor station restroom and water bottle filling station were open even though the rest of the visitor center was closed for Covid.
Joe Xiong
What can I say? Hundreds of miles to hike from. There will be a lot of people on the weekend. I don’t blame there. It’s just too beautiful not to hike or stop by.
Sarah Houle
This state park is beautiful and iconic of Minnesota's north shore. Instead of Gooseberry, which is packed with tourists, go see the waterfalls here and take a hike on some sections of the Superior Hiking Trail or take a most punishing and rewarding hike to Shovel Point. Worth the visit.
Steve Peterson
Baptism River High and Illgen Falls are well worth the hike! New Visitor Center is a very welcome addition. Walk down to the mouth of Baptism for excellent views of Superior and maybe find an agate or two. Must also see Palisade Head. Right next to the church. Steep climb on a narrow road but, offers about the most breathtaking view of Superior. End cliff scenes from "The Good Son" were filmed there.
Melissa Buria
This is by far one of our favorite spots to enjoy the outdoors! So many things to do and see here, where to start?
Our normal hike takes us past the High Falls, down to the Two-Step falls in a loop past the Cascades, and back up the road to the parking area. Lots of stairs here if you want to see any of the falls up close.
Beautiful any time of year. We splash at the base of the water falls with our pup.
Shovel point and the shore line are both worth seeing on the other side, especially if you like to skip rocks and hunt for agates, sea glass, and other pretty treasures.
If you go by the cabins and beyond, the huge stone fire place on top of the "mountain" and the view from up there are both worth seeing. The shore line of Lake Superior on that side is quite different than the rest of the park. On a clear day, you can see Split Rock Light House.
Always see wildlife here. Deer, wolves, coyotes, eagles, beaver, rabbits, grouse, even a little mouse one winter. Fishing for salmon and trout. This place truly is amazing!
Insect repellent is a must. Definitely check for ticks. Not worse here than anywhere else in the area- just part of the North Woods.
Cecil E.J
I cant recommend this park more it is very large with so much to see. By the visitors center you can walk down to we're the river meets lake Superior, and near there is a trail that hugs the cliffs above the lake it's a narrow Rocky trail but if you can do it it's worth it. The park also has three waterfalls high middle and lower falls in the summer you get the full effect of the falls high falls is large and it is loud. Middle falls is more sechluded and even more gorgeous the falls may be smaller but it is even more senic. There is also a set of lakes on the park that you can camp nearthere are also cabin that you can stay in. Overall this may be the best park on the north shore because of how big it is my only problem is that high falls and the river mouth is almost constantly busy unless you get there early.
Blitz Viridis
Absolutely stunning. High falls are the largest falls fully contained in the state and well worth hiking to. For phenomenal views of cliffs on the lake, hike to Shovel point!
Ben Cedarberg
A favorite state park on the North Shore. Not nearly as busy as Gooseberry Falls but absolutely beautiful waterfalls, lakeshore, and lots of hiking. Very nice, private sites at the campground, but no trailer dump station. Hiking is strenuous and not accessible at all for strollers.
E Zweber
October 2019: Great place to hike. The rangers in the visitors’ center gave us good hike suggestions. Beautiful waterfalls and the swing bridge was fun.
January 2020: we visited again, but this time we stayed in a cabin. We stayed in Cabin D. It was a cozy cabin for two. Packing in from Lax Lake road wasn’t that bad. It was about a 45 minute walk. We both had a small backpack for a two night stay. Pack your snow shoes if you are coming in the winter. We broke trail in many places when we did our hiking. Again, we thank the rangers for good suggestions on where to hike. Even if you are experienced, it’s a good idea to ask them about trail conditions.
Items included in cabin: pots, pans, water jug, knives, eating utensils, plates, cups, coffee mugs, coffee percolator, games in bottom drawer of dresser.
Rebekah Suneson
Beautiful moderate supposed state park with many hiking trails and water front view to lake superior. Beautiful waterfalls and scenery
Mandy Nelson
One of my favorite quick hikes in Minnesota. If you're looking for a short hike with spectacular views, look no further. It is such a well maintained trail that seems to receive improvements every time I visit. As much as I would suggest this hike for kids, I'd leave the really little ones at home unless you're carrying them. There are minimal barriers to the edge of these beautiful rock formations. It doesn't matter which season you choose to visit, the canvas mother nature paints for us here is always breath taking. Enjoy!
Anthony
Very gorgeous views throughout. It was a little sad that we didn’t look ahead because we went on the weekend for state park hunting which means the only trail that was opened was the hiking club trail. The visitors center and shop are really nice and clean. The upkeep is very well done.
Anne Lewis
A must stop on the North Shore! So much to see and do, free public parking with very nice restroom facilities. Great state park camping. Mutiple waterfalls, wooded hikes, and the cliffs on Lake Superior!
Marianna Klochan
Went camping here last year and then visited again in 2018 to hike around the trails again. It's so breathtaking. If you're by the area, I would pull up to a parking lot next to the campsites and go to the trails. Also, behind the office building is another trail that takes you to cliffs off lake superior. It's beautiful.
Jared Jones
Gotta be my favorite state park. It's popular for a reason. Really cool trails, mosquitoes are not out as much, Lake Superior, waterfalls, camping, just about all you can imagine. Just a note, of you don't have a reservation, don't even bother coming to try to camp unless you plan on getting there early. During peak season, 3pm arrival was still too late to get a first come first.served campsite so I ended up staying in Duluth and driving back up because even at 3pm during peak season, the nearby hotels are generally full too. Don't let that stop you though, just come with a plan and you'll love this place!
whokenstad
Awesome hike, even in the rain!
iDoItForTheMemories
I didn't get the chance to hike down to the waterfalls because the sun was creepin away when I arrived. I did enjoy walking down along the beach which was only a 5 minute walk from the visiting center. I will definitely be back to check out the falls!
Megan Ehrhart
This is one of my favorite Minnesota state parks!! So many beautiful views and different scenery options . The views from the short hike are absolutely stunning. And there’s plenty of other rocks near the water for kids to climb around on.
Joy Beimert
Walking the trails right next to the river was so peaceful and calming but the trail was over a mile and said it was less than a mile. Other than that it was perfect!
Jim & Vartsana Winkels
We stopped by the park to hike up to Upper Falls, glad we did. It was only a mile or so and the trail was maintained well. It is always exhilarating hearing the roar of fall growing louder and louder until the full power of the falls is in before us and this waterfall did not disappoint. The suspension bridge also adds an unique flair to the experience.
Johnny So
Stayed at a cart-in site where the trail next to my site has it's own beach access. I would definitely stay here again, but getting reservations is really hard during peak times. So reserve at least 2 months early.
Harris Mahmood
Tettegouche state park is beautiful.
The hikes there are lots of fun for beginner-intermediate hikers.
Alexander K
We came here in fall. The trails and scenery was spectacular. Far enough to be a silent and quiet walk with clean crisp air. Parking is easy and free to explore.
Ashley Kalenian
So many incredible trails! Absolutely stunning views! Lots of traffic, it is a common stop but worth it. The Palisade Head Overlook is part of Tettegouche but not connect, but also worth a stop
Elizabeth Baur
Book a cabin in the group camp and enjoy a serene hideaway on MicMac Lake. Really a wonderful experience that weeds out the worst kind of campers because it takes a bit more dedication to hike in with your gear. However, the cabins and bath house are well-maintained, there is firewood, fishing gear, and canoes on site for use, and the system of trails in that area of the park is fantastic. We have hiked the paths closer to the shoreline too, and love everything about this beautiful pocket of Minnesota.
Julia Heppner
It was good kind of rocky and slippery in some parts but overall good. There are a lot of ups and downs and you get tired easy but cool sights.
Cherrita
Absolutely breathtaking. Worth every step, every sweat, every minute! The water is so blue, so clear, and the breeze from the lake was so nice! Highly recommended to go with friends or meditate by yourself. :)
Todd Mulvihill
This is a wonderful and large state park to camp and explore. The trails are in good shape, generally not very muddy and offer some spectacular views - if you're willing to hike to them.
Melissa Steele
This is my favorite place 🤗 The views are breathtaking and the walking path is well maintained. It's also always fun to watch the rock climbers! …
Elizabeth Vetter
Waterfall Hunting Adventure! There was a cool swinging bridge. Dog friendly and kid friendly place. The only downside was that my dog couldn't walk across the swinging bridge, it was like a metal grated floor that would hurt her paws. But it is a good place to see!
annabanana
Incredible fall experience. So much to explore, we have to come back! Wanted to see a moose but didn't get to see one, maybe next time. The High Falls were beautiful.
Shane Suttle
Gorgeous day hiking and snowshoeing after the big April blizzard. So much to do at this park, and has some of the best hikes and views around and we always make it a stop on the north shore.
Marek Lenartowicz
Campground could be better. There is also plenty of room to have more sites. Trails are worth seeing.... It is a beautiful place....
Jennifer Eldridge Calderón
Lovely visitor center and the snowy groomed trail hike we took was magical. Ranger was friendly and helpful too. So grateful for MN State parks!
Jeff Nipp
The hike to the waterfall seemed longer than the posted distance, but was well worth the effort. The path was muddy, with numerous small springs keeping things very wet in spots.
The falls were spectacular and the mist at the bottom was a godsend after a hot daytime uphill trek. The staff at the visitors center was extremely nice and patiently offered advice as if each group was the first time they had been asked.
The display on finding animal signs was great for the kids.
Michael Molde
Beautiful North Shore attraction. There is a nice Visitor Center.
Many different hiking trails. You can keep it simple by walking the wood plank trails that overlook Superior, or challenge yourself by trekking the trail that follows the Baptism River up to the High Falls.
Emily Ford
Great place to score raspberries and blueberries. And of course great vistas of the cliffs hanging over Lake Superior. We love watching the climbers on the rock faces and swimming in the lake (when the water temp allows)
Wayne Rasmussen
The views are always great, but the wind and cold kept the hiking to a minimum. Spring came late in 2022. The snow was still present on part of the trail.
Sara A
This park held a wonderful winter hiking adventure. Can't wait to explore it in the warmer months too.
Anna Kuehn
It was a great day for a hike by a Great Lake! Tettegouche has the best Park Rangers and staff. Always friendly and helpful!
Pita Loopa
Can't beat the beaten path. Very busy this time of year, but it's a great place to bring kids. Lots of hikes kids can handle but aren't too easy ;) Swinging bridge is scary to cross but very cool. Nice visitor center.
Sean Cipolletti
this had a lot of hiking I loved it. they did have camping near the lake wished I had done that also.
Amishtraveler
Wow a beautiful place to visit. State park office is clean and staff is friendly and helpful. Love this state park!!
C Ward
Headed up the North Shore to do some hiking and to see good fall foliage. Forecast was wet for much of the day, but that didn't dampen our spirit for adventure. First time at Tettegouche and we plan to definitely return again and will probably camp. Visitor center has a fire place and coffee shop. Campgrounds include both carry in and drive in. Paths were plenty wet from all the rain but still easy to navigate and are moderately difficult. The metal bridge over the river allowed limited exploration on the other side of High Falls. Traffic was minimal but certain it was due to the weather. Fabulous State park that is worth the trip. You won't be disappointed!!
Tim Zweber
This park is one of the best natural places in MN. We came here both during fall colors and deep cold January this year. It’s great any time. The interpretative center is a cozy place to warm up and they have coffee which is awesome. They also sell water bottles if you forget yours like I did. Miles and miles of trails to hike.
PG P
1st time here. The drive was pretty once you clear Two Harbors. Great for families and adults as well. Enjoyed the hike to High Falls. No mosquitos in August. Our 4 year old hike in and out and enjoyed climbing on the rocks. Out 6 and 9 also enjoyed playing in the stream. Cool seeing fresh water lobster. They are 1.5 inches long. Only sorry did not make it to the superior hiking trail. Some backpackers said there were great views of Lake Superior.
Bryan Runyon
Awesome place to camp on the North shore. Stayed in the cart in campsites. Off season in April so very isolated. Camp is well maintained. Lots of cool things to see near here, and also definitely check out the southwestern side of camp. Tettegouche log camp and Mt. Baldy was awesome.
Steve Peterson
Excellent scenic hiking trails. Lots of stairs for the High Falls and Shovel Point trails, but worth it in the end.
Mir Farrokh Salek
Beautiful trail and valleys. Amazing campground. Lots of space per campground
Yuriy Gula
Beautiful state park. There is plenty of locations for a camp out spot for which you'll need to grab a permit, but if you're looking for a nice hike around the falls I recommend doing it. The sights are very beautiful and in my opinion one of the best water falls in Minnesota.
Stephen Schmitz
Tettegouche is a wonderful state park. Cart in sites recommended
Dan Galatowitsch
Went at the perfect time to view the leaves changing color. Only did a short hike but the view from Mt. Baldy was worth it.
Jared Frandson
What's a popular summer destination the state park is also great for winter time. The hike-in cabins at Micmac Lake are popular, But the somewhat strenuous two mile hike to get in means that they aren't so booked up that you can't snag one. It has been a wonderful adventure every time.
Kienan Mick
There are five unique falls here, make sure to view them all: High Falls, Illgen Falls, Two-Step Falls, The Cascades and Shovel Point Falls. Palisade Head is also a must see!
Ceecee Vang
Gorgeous park in Minnesota. No need to rush. Take your time and enjoy the view.
Mark T
Like so many of the parks in Minnesota, it was a great clean facility, had well maintained trails, and friendly staff. I did the high to High Falls and it was very nice.
Ann Keefe
Great park with lots of hiking options. Need a couple days to explore it all
Jessica Haines
Always a must. Amazing views along the shore, especially at the iconic Shovel Point. Hiking to the waterfalls is also a fun trek. Great place for kayaking and rock climbing.
ML Maus
Omg I totally know why these campsites are always booked!! Beautiful beautiful BEAUTIFUL!! I did cart in camping and it was soooo blissful. I basically hammocked by the cliff of superior and did not see any humans near by. It was nice to hike and rarely see others too. I know it gets crowded in summer so go in the early fall!! Best decision ever!!
Will
Amazing visitors lodge with coffee shop and local art. The park is absolutely gorgeous and there are a variety of trails along the bluffs with well preserved and beautiful trails. The views and forests are absolutely worth a stop and I would highly recommend hiking the trails!
Xeena Vang Cha
Enjoyed the short hike to the High Falls & 2 Step Falls (200 stairs) with my family. Bridge was closed due to high waters from May 2022 but still a nice walk.
Madeline Sarkis (Glowy Blonde)
Stunning area with numerous areas to explore within the park. From hidden falls, to rocky beaches, this is a park you don't want to miss on your way up the North Shore.
Matt Everett
Carted in with dogs. Great secluded camping spots. Fun trails and the Ricky beach is very pretty.
Allison
By far our favorite hike. So many things to see. The baptism River, metal swinging bridge, falls, the cliff with trees.
joe durango
Beautiful park with trails along bluffs of lake Superior, and to waterfalls and lakes. A very good visitor center with gift shop. They are helpful in orienting you for the day.
Maxim
Amazing park, highly recommended.
Brad Nelson
Nice, although people with cars park in the truck parking way too much. Great trails and a nice gift shop and coffee bar.
jeffrey Green
Went to Baldy mountain, fairly easy walking with a great view from the top.
Andrew Crow
A short hike from the trailhead leads to a wonderful scenic waterfall. My wife, five year old daughter, and I completed the 2.3 mile loop in a leisurely 2 hours.
Margie Bodas
Excellent trails! Nice park center! Amazing outdoor facility.
Hannah Weiland
Beautiful hiking location!! There are so many different trails with a variety of scenery! Last time we went to the High Falls and that was beautiful! Today, we went up to Shovel Point! It was exhausting, but the view is worth it!!
Kj Fox
Tettegouche is a yearly (at minimum) trip for me for hiking all day through beautiful woodlands to see amazing waterfalls. They have several places with wooden stairs to make the climbs easier, a large visitor center with restrooms, water, and some vending machines.
I haven't camped here yet but they have multiple campsites that are pretty distant from the main hiking areas to keep them more remote, and the visitor center had ice and wood for sale. Highly recommended for anyone who loves Lake Superior and hiking with lots of inclines!
Erin Murray
We had our seven-year-old, five-year-old, and three-year-old, hike in to High Falls and Two step falls. They all enjoyed the bridge and walking in to the river. We recommend getting a parking pass to park closer to the trail head.
Karethra Bex
This was a quiet park for camping with ample spaces and plenty of privacy. Would definitely return. And, the restrooms were clean, not an easy task with pit toilet areas.
Pat Leahy
Tettegouche State Park has a variety of hiking trails and a beautiful interpretive center. Trails follow river to falls and also go along Lake Superior.
Steven P Brick
Take the hike to Shovel Point....!
Breathtaking view there.
Josh VH
Probably my favorite state park to date! Simple stunning views everywhere from the shoreline to the largest waterfall in the state to the mountainous valley overlook!
Avi Baron
Beautiful falls, great hiking.
We finished our 28 mile 3 night Superior Hiking Trail trip here. It was wonderful to cool off in the pool at the base of the falls.
Leonard Miller
We stayed at the cabins. The hill between the parking and the cabins is 300 vertical feet, so be ready for that, but once you are there it is beautiful, with use of your own canoe.
Diana Hansen
The only part of this park that we visited was Illgen Falls, which we accessed from outside the park. There is roadside parking 1.6 miles up highway 1 on the left. Then an easy shirt hike to see the falls.
Connor Miller
Hands down the best state park in Minnesota. I might be biased because I’ve worked on many of the trails in the park but you have such a variety of things you can see and it is available in a range of difficulties. There are two big hikes that in my mind are must hikes, the high falls which is a great waterfall that is about a 4 mile round trip hike and then you have shovel point which is the best view of Lake Superior which is only about 2 miles round trip. There is so much to do other than the hikes with their old tettegouche camp cabins and the visitor center you have to stop. Also if it is a hot day best place to swim up north is the baptism river delta, since Lake Superior is always quite chilly it is nice because the river is normally a reasonable temp. Finally they also have climbing anchors on the shovel point hike which range in difficulty from a solid 5.6-5.12a.
Art BanDit
This park is GORGEOUS! Well maintained, stunning views. No longer going to crowded gooseberry, this is the new jam!
Amanda Gartner
Incredible hikes both on Lake Superior and into the woods to Baptism Falls, and a large and comfortable (and warm) welcome center
Jon Junker
Great park. Trails to the falls are fun and family friendly. Visitor Center is very nice and staff are super helpful. Gets VERY busy during the day, so would highly recommend coming early in the morning.
Gary Zeal
Great hikes, cliffs, and waterfalls.
erik anderson
I hadn't hiked here since they redid the visitor center and trail heads. They have done an excellent job of creating one of the most scenic trails (baptism river to the high falls) on the north shore, the suspension bridge is a real treat as well.
Melissa Kahmeyer
Beautiful day with great hiking and gorgeous views!
David Aussendorf
How can the North Shore of the largest freshwater lake in the 🌎 get better then camping on the waterfront, hiking to waterfalls and biking the Gitchi Gami trail. September in MN. …
Kaiti Magdzas
Loved it, will be back and will post more photos as I come. My 7 year old had a hard time not being lazy but I also seen many younger children who were happily doing the trails with no complaining.
Theresa Cleary
Well maintained park with ample parking, new visitor facilities, and knowledgeable park attendants.
Beautiful network of trails that offers short, easy treks for families with young kids and more challenging routes for serious hikers. Whether you have 30 minutes or several hours -there's lots to do and see. Free Wi-Fi is a bonus for travelers with limited cell service.
Robert Waltz
A large and wonderful park with excellent hiking. Well worth several hours of time exploring and appreciating.
Mitchell Heim
Great trails that are well marked. Hard to get lost. Awesome views. You can see from above and below the high falls
Pam C
Beautiful State Park, quiet campground, clean bathrooms, our campsite was wooded and private. Bring your insect repellent and headsets, the bugs can be ferocious.
Mark Suchy
Minnesota State Parks shine on the North Shore. Suitable for most ages and all fitness levels. Some may need more time.
James Kiefert II
Great hike today with my wife. We did the upper and lower falls. We would recommend seeing both of them. Also note that it is a significant hike due to all of the stairs. Lower falls have 200 stairs down, upper falls are 83 down to the bottom. Only had a few slippery spots due to the snow, but otherwise the trails were passable.
jessica peterson
Great rest area and beautiful park! Extensive, well-kept trail system on the shore (and inland) of Lake Superior.
Gabe Gilsrud
A must see park with some amazing falls. We visit every fall during the salmon run to take in the scenery.
Arielle P
Love Tettgouche State Park. If you haven't been here before, take note that these trails are not for the faint of heart.
If you come here, come prepared. Don't even try wearing flip flops or sparkly sandals. Wear your best hiking boots and dress appropriately. These trails are beautiful but they are hazardous if you aren't properly equipped.
That said, everything here is beautiful. The trails are hard work but the pay-off is absolutely worth it. The trees are beautiful, the rocks are beautiful, the waterfall is beautiful. Of all the places I've hiked, this is one of my favorites.
I was also treated to the spectacle of a man and woman arguing (soundlessly, due to my distance) over the man's clear intention to attempt to jump across the top of the waterfall. After failing to reason with him, the woman placed her hands on her hips in resignation and watched as he launched himself across. Thankfully, he made it, but he hurt himself and had to limp back across. Don't jump across the waterfall, guys.
Safety first! Happy hiking :-)
Eva Schneider
Beautiful Park for hiking! Waterfalls are a nice added bonus! We spent the whole day hiking here!
Evelyn Hoover
One of my favorite hikes is to Shovel Point. Beautiful view. Visitor center is very modern and clean.
Stephen Zander
Beautiful park with incredible waterfalls and very well maintained paths. Definitely worth a trip!
Randy Hohn
I love seeing the falls. We stopped at many of them along the way home from our vacation. So much to see Beautiful country up north, many falls
Seasons and animals
good place to walk around the big lake sunny hot but the wind blow feel good
Timothy Dahlstrom
Awesome beauty! Waterfalls, cliffs over Lake Superior, gorgeous woods. Very much worth the time!
E J P
Nice State Park. Stopped in the building for snacks and coffee. They have a cafe that serves chai, hot chocoate, tea, etc. Ordered White Hot Chocolate and it was DELICIOUS! They also have an assortment of snacks, cold drinks, and ice cream. There is also free wifi in here! Wanted to travel to the falls but it requires a State Park Parking permit ($7 for the day) and entails a little over a mile hike roundtrip... Decided to skip but glad we stopped!
John Johnson
A beautiful state park with many trail options for hiking to beautiful waterfalls, rushing waters, or the Lake Superior shoreline.
Christy Kane
We really enjoyed our hike. It was challenging without being overwhelmingly so. Beautiful place to hike.
William Boland
IMO, Definitely in the top 5 destinations in the entire state. Beautiful visitor center, stunning hikes for all levels of hikers from toddlers to seniors (including the rock-climbing 60+ crowd) and great camping spots. This place never disappoints.
Sheryl D
I loved this park. Lots of stairs so beware! We took 2 hikes and both were worth it . Rangers were helpful, gave us great advice on which hikes to take.
Irinka M
Very beautiful view! Good for hiking 👍 But it has tons of stairs. …
Donna Brown
Great hike back to the falls. Pretty smooth trails, alot of steps, some optional.
Jake Hemmesch
Always love going to Tettegouche and Palisade Head. Super cool scenery and easy hikes make it fun for the whole family.
Mai Yang
I always love it here. Shovel Point is a must. The water is high right now so the beach was too wet to access.
loveangel132
Such a beautiful place to explore! Be prepared for a lot of stairs ! Worth it but take your time!
Pauly Boy
One of my favorite parks along the North Shore. It’s a little bit of a hike to the falls but totally worth it. The hike weeds out the larger crowds so you can enjoy more of it in peace.
Rick Rolli
Nice, clean organized park. Buy a 1 day pass for $10. Hike around. See both falls. Go swimming. Buy a season pass for $35 and camp out. Bundles of wood for $6 ea.
Amanda Gustafson
This park is so beautiful! Everything you could possibly imagine! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it is right off the highway and even in a cart in site you could hear a lot of traffic noise.
Ron Viles
Gorgeous park. We hiked out to High Falls in the evening hours to avoid labor day crowds. On way back we saw a bear cub on trail. Made our MN trip complete.
Adam _
Excellent place to visit. Easy trails and lots of great hikes.
Jackson Eddy
Such an awesome state park and especially in the fall! Well maintained trails, great facilities, and epic views.
David Speidel

Jahan Hajiani
Tettegoche State Park has lots of great hiking, and amazing views of the North Shore. If you like the outdoors, you will love it up here.
Kaylee Bozarth
Great state park with some beautiful falls. The trails aren't too difficult and they reward you with some great views of the falls. The bugs can be a bit annoying, so be sure to wear bug spray.
Adam Janecke
Beautiful and short trail to see a lot of the shoreline.
John Budziszewski
Awesome state park, we visit it every year, and still haven't seen it all.
Billy
Great hike!! Be prepared for around 280 or so stairs going up the trail, it'll all be worth it for the view!
Jack Wiedner
Stunning views and far less crowded than Gooseberry Falls, at least from my experience. Definitely worth the extra couple miles!
Valli G R
Awesome views and view points for the Lake Superior.. kid friendly hiking trails..
Gregory Kosmacek
Beautiful scenery. Pack the bug spray if you go early in the morning like I did. Bit of a walk to get to high falls but not too bad
Kaley Woods
still one of my favorite spots in minnesota 😊 beautiful scenery and very well kept trails …
James Amberg
The visitor center is large and clean. I went on the breathtaking Shovel Head Trail. Dramatic coastal views at several locations. Be prepared for hiking.
Dan Vang
A must stop along the North Shore. Appreciate the free EV charger as well!
PK Lee
Beautiful place to visit with lots of trails. The high falls hike is defiantly worth it.
Mic Thomas
My favorite state park in MN. I love spending time here winter and summer, it's beautiful all year round.
Jim White
Some great overlooks and a couple of hidden lakes. Great hike. About 5 mile loop. No bathroom facilities.
M C
Serene and quiet with great trails and scenery. I highly recommend High Falls and Baptism trails.
Jennifer Grenier
No complaints from our family. It is almost a mile hike to the first major falls (there are others but are further walk). Kids enjoyed the scenery and hiking. It was free to go.
Hercules
"Water to my left: the superior, frigid, piercing, chills your spine. Water to my right: the Baptism, refreshing, sublime, alluring. I stand, thigh-deep, at one of the many mouths that feed the lake. The mouth, the trench, the convergence of Baptism and Superior."
Nate Lee
Fantastic state park for camping and hiking, beware there is hundreds and stairs tho!
hi everyone
Excellent place to visit for outdoor activities, especially for hiking. There’s also some good photo opportunities.
Tyler Dlugolecki
Beautiful view at the end of one of the hikes. LOTS of stairs though so not recommended for people with bad knees.
LebannersHook
Tettegouche has a great walk in camping. Depending on what site you have the walk is about 10 minutes or less. They have carts to haul all your gear into the site. There are a few Hills you have to manage using the cart but they are equipped with a braking system to make it easier to manage. Beautiful scenery and great views of the North Shore! Fill your water at the visitor center and get your wood there too.
M
The trails are magical and the waterfalls are breath taking. Heaven on earth. These Northshore parks will leave an imprint on your heart forever.
Barb Oelfke
Nice trail but I'd go in from the visitor center with little kids. Beautiful scenery
Tony Fyles
Great hiking to the waterfalls, lots of steps, but not a long distance.
Suren Muvva
Superb trails & views. Must-visit place in Northshore drive.
LA Need4speed
Great trails, lake views and beach.
Clement Larson
A huge park with tons of recreation opportunities. Great views of Lake Superior.
Melissa Coone
Beautiful park with some fantastic views of Lake Superior!
Laura Pinske
Although it’s one of many state parks nestled along the Scenic Highway 61, Tettegouche is special because it offers a lot more than a few pretty shots of Lake Superior. The Baptism river cuts through the park, creating picturesque hiking paths through thick birch and pine forests leading to the iconic High Falls and further in, Illgen Falls - both of which have options for you to choose from; driving in to one of the trailheads for a shorter hike, or parking at the main visitor center and making the trek through the park. Another attraction is Shovel Point
Melissa
My favorite state park on the north shore .
GO
Beautiful park. Great trails. We had an awesome time.
Brian Plumer
Slightly bummed out that a large section of park was closed due to special hunting permits. Both my wife and I understand that need so we made the best of it and spent time walking other trails and just sitting and enjoying what was available.
First time here so those towering cliffs and distant flows were that much more amazing and spectacular from the shore lookouts.
We'll be back next summer for sure!
Sean McGinnis
Beautiful park with a lot of trails, camping, and amazing views. Well maintained visitors center with a nice shop for souvenirs and snacks.
James Aderman
Be sure to hike in this park. The waterfalls are fantastic. Hiking is relatively easy.
Brian Singer-Towns
One of our favorite state parks. Nice visitor center and lots of great hiking trails. If you are lucky, you can watch Rock climbers goin up and down the cliff faces to the water. Be sure to take the hole out to Shovel Point!
Samuel Gray
Most beautiful state Park north of duluth. Be careful of the palisade cliff edge!
L Ger10
Great 1.5 mile hike to amazing waterfall. I wish I would have worn my swimming trunks to take a swim.
Jeff Hausmann
Great waterfalls..lots of stairs amd a swinging bridge
Larry Link
One of my favorite places to visit year round. Either a walk to the beach, baptism river or shovel point...or maybe all three. I love this place.
Narmeen Makhani
We did the cascade falls trail with our 4 yr old. It was a 1.5 mike round trip, steep at some places but very fun. Lots of things to spot and birds to hear.
Andrei Anicescu
The hike and all of the stairs are worth it. Be prepared for the unpredictable weather here in Minnesota.
Vaclav Grym
This park is a north shore classic. The coastline is breathtaking. The campsites are always in great shape and the hiking trails are well maintained.
Jana Rose Arts
My favorite park on the north shore. The visitor center/rest area is beautiful with friendly, helpful staff.
Maggie Locke
Did the shovel trail. Gorgeous cliff side views and not too difficult although there were a fair amount of stairs. Fair warning this park is very icy right now so wear crampons if you have them.
CJ Dabney
Fun hiking the trails, plenty of parking, nice visitor center and amazing views of Lake Superior.
Erin B
Lots of trails to explore & The High Falls were beautiful!
Celeste Fisher-Dale
Amazing Lake Superior beaches, gorgeous facilities with educational materials and hands on learning experiences for kids, friendly staff, and scenic views around every corner! Will be returning for years to come.
Joe Egan
Beautiful scenery and hiking. Waterfalls are easily accessible by short hikes. Showers available for campers.

Always great hiking and wonderful waterfalls. However, parking at all these state parks is problematic. Get there early?

Brittney Hirschauer
Beautiful! We will be back! So much to see! Spend a day or two here.
Jim Kreilich
You will not believe how big the campground is and what beautiful scenery. The main administration building was serving food before COVID. Great interpretation center for visitors
Joyanta Basak
High falls is the best!!! Totally worth the hike. But not recommended for average person.
Gina Stillwell
Beautiful place to relax and take in the north shore when the weather is not cooperating. Fresh coffee and sandwiches are available to enjoy around the stone 2 sided fireplace.
CJ Parris
Absolutely beautiful. The visitors center has gifts and tourist info.
Jair Netto
The most interesting state park upnorth. Make sure you go with time to explore it well.
Catrina Ferraro

Awesome views from Shovel Point. Lots of walking. Very worth it though.
Melinda Miller
Pretty magical place, makes a person appreciate nature, by the roaring waterfalls.
Luke Goossens
Lots of hiking opportunities for casual walks as week as more daunting treks. An iconic park of the North Shore.
Lance Oteri
On the trail to High Falls. Great hike. Less then 2 miles round trip. Just beautiful!
Udo Dussling
Love the falls and trails no better place for hiking
Mark Hotle
Awesome scenery. Great hiking trails.
Elizabeth Porter
Such a gorgeous place. I go up there about 2-3 times a month. One of my favorite places to hiking a reset myself mentally.
Christopher Brooks
Nice park, but grab a map before just setting off, because things could be better signed.
Chuck Perry
This park is so amazing that I didn't even feel the cold. In every direction, there is an awesome scene. Truly a photographer's playground, as is all of the North Shore.
kristen howe
Gorgeous place if your willing to take quite a hike to get to the falls, this is it.
Alexandra Danielson
Busy park during the weekend but a beautiful walk and wonderful view of the falls!!
TTV_Ninja23
The waterfalls are amazing the hiking is beautiful great place to see!
Kevin Kenney
Was told to visit and it quickly became our favorite state park. Such a great place with alot to explore.
Erik Tietz
Commonly considered the most beautiful park in the state. Spectacular views of the lake, many waterfalls, and forests.
Alyssa
Be forewarned, the hike to the falls is more than 1.5 miles but totally worth it. Absolutely stunning ♡
Nancy Sundheim
Loved this park. Did two quit different hikes. One along the river - beautiful views. Went to the swinging bridge. You can leave the main path to go down to the middle falls (two step falls) and the upper falls. Upper falls is 83 steps down to the river. Two step falls is similar.
Also did Shovel Point trail by the shore of Lake Superior. Some up and down but not as much as by the river. Great views of the lake. Shorter than the trail to the swinging bridge.
Nice visitor center with real indoor bathrooms (no outhouse). Places to eat and camp by the river.
Highly recommend
Andrea Goldbaum
The cabins at tettagouche are what is up! Bring in Everything and bring out everything over the trail in which is not long but has dramatic changes in elevation. We bring a wagon. This place is best camped in October or winter when you can cross country ski and snow shoe. The hike in keeps out riff-raff, but some annual campers get cranky and will tattle on you to rangers if you say - have one to many people in your cabin even if you’re being quiet and respectful. Or if you bring your super old dog that you’re afraid might die if you leave with someone else - and it never barks only leaves cabin to pee. Wasn’t me but another family and no we didn’t tell the rangers, but someone else did. Still a five star Minnesota camp ground complete with passive aggressive cabin campers for the FULL experience.
Andrew Weisz
One of the best State Parks in Minnesota I would 100% recommend
Andrew Heairet
The tallest waterfall entirely within MN is only a 1.5 mile hike along a well groomed trail from the visitor center. It’s definitely worth the hike. And if you park at the visitor center you don’t even need to buy a parks pass. But do it anyway. $35 to support a system of amazing parks for a year is definitely a bargain.
Matt E
Great hiking trails very nice visitor center with clean restrooms and a well stocked gift shop. Campsites looked nice. Home to MN tallest waterfall. We had a blast on our day hike and would love to stay for a long weekend. Lots of stairs if you want to see all the falls but worth it.
Gurkirat Singh sahi
Beautiful and as trucker you get alot of parking
Koen Legrand
Beautiful well maintained park. Bring good hiking shoes, water and snacks because most routes will take a couple of hours.
Michael Pachla
A great place to see waterfalls and fall colors.
Dennis Blevins
It's another one of Minnesota's beautiful parks. We had a great time there.
L.K. Reyes
Great hike to the waterfalls!
Mike Weber
Beautiful State Park, camping along the shore of Lake Superior...
nathan rains
We camped here mid week as we made our way up the north shore. Campsite was a walk in and it was really nice. Very short walk to our spot. We hiked several of the more popular trails. The salmon have begun running and we were anxious to try our luck. We landed 2 coho salmon and were beyond excited.
Nice place, clean facilities!
Lori Thompson
Great visitors center & various hiking opportunities.
Tim Bouldin
Great park. One of our favorite state parks. Great trail system. Lots of water falls to see.
Eric Huppert
Waterfalls were beautiful and the hiking was great. They recently got hit with about 18 inches of snow and all the trees looked like frosted giants.
Angelmagiccrafts 1111
We loved it here. It has a really lovely energy. Look forward to coming here again.
Cole Carter
Some of the best falls on the north shore. You can take the long hike from the bottom up or go the easy route and drive up then hike down. The rest stop at the bottom is very nice and there is another trail leading out to the lake which provides some great views. Pretty crowded with people on the weekends but definitely worth the stop if you are going by. Have fun!
Mike Johnson
One of the best parks in Minnesota! Beautiful views and nice facilities on site. A must stop for any outdoors lovers. Perfect for hiking, hunting, relaxing, etc. It can get a little busy in the fall when the leaves change colors so plan accordingly. Definitely worth a trip there though.
Casey Yurkew
Always beautiful, always things to do. Packed to the brim though. Parking lot can be full, and not getting away from civilization at this location. Go expecting to share the experience with lots of others. Great trails, views, shoreline, and wildlife. You wont see a moose walk past you, but the birds, and even crawfish sunbathing along the shore give a fun experience for all ages. Near other sight seeing and camping, we make it a go to stop while we are heading a bit further north every time.
Paula Noll
Baptism River & the falls were spectacular, the visitor center is very large & clean with ample seating indoors & out.
Bradley Nelson
Great park to stop and stretch your legs. Warning, once you do you will want to spend time on the beach and go for a hike. Beautiful spot with an excellent building for restrooms or some souvenirs.
M7256 O
Gorgeous we had such a great time. Even with snow on the ground it was so much fun.
manish das
Serene environment. Worth to seat and watch the sunset
B Knutson
Many lovely spots, great hiking, good workout!
Amanda Nelson
Amazing! You must walk the trails to the waterfall! Trails are well kept but be prepared for some climbing. Lots of stairs but there are a few spots to stop for a rest along the way. The suspension bridge is super cool. Don't forget to stop and dip your toes in the water after your hike. The water is clear and cool and so gorgeous!
Abhishek Patil
A national park worthy with absolutely breathtaking views. Go all the way to the end of the Shovel Point for seeing the beauty of mighty Lake Superior. Take Baptism River Trail for peaceful time at waterfalls. As always, get up early and enjoy the morning at Tettegouche.
Sharen
One of the best state parks. Hardest section of the SHT, but definitely the beautiful and worth it. Be prepared for a lot of up and down and Rocky terrain. My fit it said I hiked 423 flights of stairs that day! The palisades are a unique feature to see and the beach is relaxing. Also, great campsite, if you can get a spot!
Ian Churcher
Nice layout and presentation in visitor center. Good short walk for views.
Be prepared for biting flies.
Rivers Moon
Beautiful and amazing place to hiking ,camping, rock climbing
Noah Calar
Awesome experience. My wife and I did the trek from the trailhead parking lot all the way to the bottom of the high falls with our 5 year old daughter and 1.5 year old son. They were troopers!... Though we had to carry them on some parts. Lots of up and down steps, but so worth the journey.
The water felt nice and it was fun to chase the crayfish some.
Paul F
One of the best state parks. Great visitor centers.
Tyler Wahlen
Beautiful
Ken Rodrick
Awesome State Park with several beautiful waterfalls and beach on Lake Superior. Campsites have so much brush between them that you cannot see your neighbors! Showers and restrooms are clean and well-kept.
Taylor LaBonte
Good place to jump around on rocks
Dullspork
Did all the amazing falls here, but the "rest area" portion only allow 6 hour parking and no overnight
Adam Gardner
One of my favorite places to sit down and dig for agates.
Taylin Meier
One of my favorite hiking spots! Its so gorgeous and peaceful. Very well kept and clean, great views and even better with great company! I come here with my dad and boyfriend! We love it!
Linda Wu
Beautiful cliff trail to Shovel Point. Also saw a cool peregrine falcon.
Matthew Lewis
The hike to Shovel Point is easy, quick, and rewarding. The hike to High Falls is also rewarding, but longer (though nowhere near intense). Nice visitors center and parking. Beautiful place, a must-visit location on the North Shore.
Marilee Moerke
One of my favorite MN state parks.
Todd Christenson
We enjoyed the hikes to the various waterfalls and the hanging bridge.
Steph Fran
I recently visited Tettegouche and was not only impressed by the beauty throughout the park, but the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Todd Ringhand
Great visitor center (with a coffee shop)! Hike was great and so we're the views.
Shari Lehn
Fantastic hike AMAZING views everywhere!!! North Shore Fanatic....
Brian Foley
Great place to stop and really experience the North Shore. Fantastic views of Lake Superior the Sawtooth Mountain and so much more. Great for all ages.
wendy finn
Amazing views!! The trails we took were moderately difficult. Steps, inclines and boulders to navigate. But, the views were worth the steps!
Reena Pughat
Nice rocky place to see and walk on the rock. People also have fun in the water. Fall is small though.
Jen The Hiker
Great trails, dog friendly, awesome views. Lots of stairs so get those legs ready 😁 …
Andy Weinkauf
Nice hiking trails through the waterfalls. Glad we paid for the day pass to park at the trailhead closer to the upper falls. The first 1/4 mile is up a steep hill from the parking lot. Gets easier from there.
Definitely recommend using the avenza app for the trails, very accurate!
Mariah Austin
It was beautiful! Absolutely loved it. Had fun the entire time and the campsites had the perfect amount of privacy. The waterfalls were gorgeous! The bathrooms and showers at the sanitary station were clean and comfortable. The one and only thing I didn't like was the firewood. It cost 6$ a bundle and we burned 2 bundles in about an hour. The quality of the wood burned SO fast we spent so much money just on wood. Other then that it was an amazing trip!
Erren Glover
Awesome place to check out with the family or by yourself!! Great views!!
April Mamer
On Lake Superior.Beautiful location great 🌟 viewing as well as northern lights.Reservations needed as it is a popular campground. …
Richard Frongillo
The impressive Visitors Center was open and we used it to clean up, fill water, and get information. We camped at the cart in campground which offered *very* private sites within a short walk to Lake Superior. Mosquitos were a factor in the evening. The hike to and the area around High Falls was well worth the time to get there.
Shannon Johnson
This state park is such a gem and really showcases what the north shore has to offer. Campsites are heavily wooded, have a packed parking pad, and enough yard area for hanging out. The trails have many elevation changes, and most are moderate to challenging. But the views and journey they take you on is so worth it!
Jocey Neveaux
The cart-in sites are clean and private. We stayed at D, where you do hear a little noise from 61 but otherwise it's very quiet.
Mary Foster
Beautiful park and nice hike to High Falls.
Kevin Wojahn
Amazing place. Great trails. Easy to moderate hiking. Lots of stairs, with places to sit and rest while you enjoy the splendor of Lake Superior.
Erin McCabe
Beautiful hiking and scenery!
Jeff Horwich
Absolutely beautiful North Shore state park. If you're ok with the trek, the cart-in campsites E through N are right along the lake. Ours (site G) was the best campsite we have ever had, anywhere. See photo for the view.
Angel Ruden
Beautiful waterfalls….so many steps! Wear the proper hiking gear!! Worth all the steps
Cherie Setala Reyes
It's Tettegouche, undoubtedly one of the best parks in the United States
Cathy Kovach
Park ranger Suzy is awesome! My wife and sister-in-law arrived at the park last night after hiking 8 miles, but all of the campsite reservations online were full. They were worried and tired but Suzy found them, noticed they needed help, and then set them up with one of the overflow sites. I'm so thankful! They said it's a beautiful park with excellent staff.
John LaPres
This was a great mix of superior and inland waterfalls and trails. The bathrooms are clean and the rangers are super helpful. Superior beach was very nice and I liked the falls trails. Lots to do here!
Peter Nguyen
Great state park to visit on the north shore. The high falls is a must! I don’t know if it’s just me but the two step falls was a bit disappointing. There are lots of steps to get down and up there, and it really drains your energy. I’d say the two step falls isn’t worth it, but it’s something you should check out at least once. Make sure (if you need to) to use the restroom before you go onto the trails since there’s no restrooms in the park (obviously), and have water with you. This state park deserves 5 stars for it’s uniqueness and beauty.
Jessica Gauerke
We love the hike in cabins on Mic Mac Lake, shovel point, and the Temperence beach. Fun agate picking.
Dana Miller
Visited today with my grandson. Hiked to Shovel Point where the views are spectacular! The gift shop has a great selection of books and the rest rooms are clean. Will return another day to explore other sections of the park.
Stephen Wigg
Food boxes in each campsite and Lake Superior waves crashing in the background? What’s not to love about that? Cart-ins are also a plus.
The fire pits should be more flush with the ground so the heat it radiates can be felt without standing inches away. And not being able to harvest your own wood, but have to buy it? I thought that just happened in the suburban campgrounds of the Twin Cities. Camped a lot this summer but this is one of the best. I guess that’s why it’s a State Park!
See
One word only: BEAUTIFUL
IF YOU LIVE IN MN, you need to go!!!!
Blackfox 288
Great hike along the north shore.
sagichu
Nice park with some great hikes, just make sure to pack the bug spray
Josh Olson
Wonderful State Park, with some really cool hiking trails along the shoreline & cliffs!! Tettegouche is a must see along the North Shore!
Alex Awaijane
Best place for pictures!
S M
We camped here at the Baptism River campground at one of the walk in sites. It was quite a hike to the bathrooms but otherwise a nice quiet campground nestled deep in the park.
I have an EV and was able to charge my car at the visitor center. We were there on a Wednesday and Thursday overnight and no issues accessing the chargers. I suspect weekends are busier. If you have an EV and don't camp at an electrical site, please note the Baptism River campground is 2 miles from the visitor center. I recommend doing the cart-in site, which is much closer to the visitor center. I was lucky I packed a foldable bike but it felt like it was all uphill from the center to the campground 🤪
Lynne Humphrey
Beautiful place! I highly recommend it! Keep watch of your children and pets. There are no fences to stop anyone from going over the edge. Plenty of land to stand on away from the edge.... and still see all of the beauty around.
Justin P
We stopped for a couple hikes at Tettegouche State Park while visiting the North Shore. It was a really beautiful park and very enjoyable hikes. High Falls on Baptism River is about 3 miles round trip and moderate in difficulty. It is the highest waterfall completely in Minnesota (High Falls on Pigeon River is higher, but shared with Ontario) and very beautiful. We also hiked out to Shovel Point, which had wonderful views of the rugged coastline. A great park a definitely worth a visit if in the area.
Hayden Gullickson
One of the best camping experiences I've had. The park is large enough to not feel super congested with people, yet small enough to see everything in a few days.
Due to Covid-19, the Visitor's Center was only partially open, however, maps; information; firewood; etc. were easily accessible. All public facilities including bathrooms and showers were extremely clean and well-maintained. Kudos to all rangers and staff for working so hard to keep things open and usable!
There are many trailheads with convenient parking nearby. Some trails were muddy/wet, so wear the right shoes to make it easy on yourself. Areas overlooking Lake Superior in the early morning/afternoon were swarming with flies (some definitely bite) – I'd highly recommend covering up your legs or using bug repellent. They could seriously take away from the fun if you are not aware of how many there are (and how ruthless they are).
Excellent experience overall! Many breathtaking views and awesome memories made! Be smart and come prepared – you'll have an unforgettable time!
David Bergman
Quite a walk but beautiful when you get there.
Dawn Rode
The Palisades are worth the narrow uphill road and the short hike to the viewing wall.
Abdullah Almamun
I like this place—good place to visit in vacation time.
Tim Hamel
Very nice park with the High Falls being the highlight. They have a very nice visitor center although at the peak, it can be hard to find a parking spot there. You have the choice of going to the shore for some great views, or hiking to High Falls. Both beautiful.
Timothy Kopet
Stopped here on the trip back home and we’re more than happy we did. Beautiful views!
Miranda Kath
Absolutely gorgeous! Was very happy that there was overnight parking!
