Reviews of Interstate State Park
I loved hiking here. We returned several times, enjoying the beauty and the challenges.
This trail gives you plenty of opportunities to increase your exercise challenges while offering options for breaks. The views are breathtaking, and found many unique things to entertain ourselves en route. For example, we found an old pioneer school we visited halfway through the trail we selected, which was giving a summer session to kids. They let us observe and told us about the history. Also, there was a giant beach chair to climb on.
You can opt to camp here - there's RV hookups even. We just parked and hiked, but it was my favorite of the places to do so. The trails were well maintained and the wildlife plentiful.
I highly recommend this be added to your agenda if you are in the area!
This is a great spot to stretch your legs and get some great pictures with the family.. their rock formations are excellent and their trails are easy to move on. Theirs also a section for rock climbing and repelling down though I'm not sure tho costs on that part of it..they let u go down and close to everything and theirs a fairy there also which takes u up an down the river next to it so u can see even more stuff.. me and my wife had a great time.. it's worth an HR to walk around and also restaurants n the area for lunch before hitting the interstate again to head home.. our first time going but definitely not our last when we r in the area again...
We visited the Minnesota side on this very nice, warm March Day. We were surprised the Parking area near the “pot holes” was closed and there were no rest rooms available either. Considering that you have to pay for these parks , I expected a little more.
Don’t misunderstand, we love these parks and spent a couple hours on the trails! The trails are a bit icy and grippers on your boots are a must! The river is opening up and was beautiful as usual, we recommend a stop at this park even this time of year!
Speaking from an RV camping experience perspective. Relatively smaller state park within easy striking distance from the Twin Cities. Good vertical tree shade but mostly smaller sites without side-to-side privacy. A few nice hiking trails with access to beautiful overlooks, historical points of interest, and Taylors Falls. Boat launch is adjacent to the park and you can walk the shoreline from there.
Most sites seemed a bit narrow, with some leveling issues, but there were plenty of bigger rigs there, and larger non-electric sites. If tent camping try to secure site 21 which has a beautiful view of the water and sunrise.
Site hosts gracious and welcoming. Firewood, ice, beverages and random gear at the ranger station. Clean bathrooms and separate shower rooms (2 shower stalls in men's shower room).
We stayed 3 nights, but seemed like a popular destination to arrive early afternoon, hike that afternoon and following morning, and depart the next afternoon.
Highly recommend.
Beautiful park. Nice sized campground with wood, beverages, and ice available. Amazing place to hike. Areas to rock climb. Big potholes and lots of history to enjoy. 3-4mile loop that'll bring you by basalt river cliffs, sandstone cliffs, the remnants of an old railroad track that helped build the area. Overall one of my favorite hikes 20 years ago and still today.
My husband and I canoed down the river today. It was a perfect day cloudy but not too cold and the wind was blowing with the current. We went Father's Day too but that day the wind was going the wrong way! Still fun though. I highly recommend!
It's a lovely little park, and a great place to launch from if you want to canoe or kayak on the St Croix River. The river has plenty of spots you can pull up on and stop for a picnic, all while enjoying the beautiful bluffs and forests lining the banks. Definitely bring sunscreen, and if you plan to spend any time at all up on shore, bring some bug spray. You don't really see them on the water, but they're everywhere on shore.
Beautiful State Park and gorgeous hike from the campground to the glacier pot holes. Hardly any mosquitos at the campground which is a big bonus!! The Rangers are everywhere and enforce a lot of rules that other parks don't i.e. where you can put your hammock. We've visited over 25 MN State Parks and always put our hammock up and have never had an issue. All around it's a clean park and close to the Cities so it's a nice park to visit.
Wonderful well kept park. Great scenery, great adventure! Grade schoolers to Teenagers like to climb the rock formations. Can be a bit scary for parents when kids are exploring. Some areas Could be dangerous for some kids as the bluffs are very high. Lots of uneven paths built from rocks, so probably not great for anyone who has trouble walking or very small children unless being carried. Paths are not great for strollers or wagons. We only hit a few of the trials so I’m not sure if any trails were paved. I have kids between 8 and 16 and they loved exploring this park! I saw some great places I would love to camp at on the river! Bring snacks as the small town nearby is very busy and full of traffic, so difficult to navigate and a little intimidating to drive in. We also did the canoe trip down the river and that was fun! The shorter trip is totally enough for any new or inexperienced canoeing person or children. I bet it would be gorgeous in the fall!!!!
This Place has been transporting Me into a different state of Mind since I was a little boy.... 1st time I remember going I had to about 8 years old ( 1978 ) daytrip with My Mom stopped there then went up to Fawn-doe-rosa..... magical memories every time..... My Better half & Kids know my final wishes are to be apart of this Magical Place.....
Absolutely stunning landscape with lots of history behind! Lots of information throughout the whole park, easy to access even with young children ages five and under.
All Minnesota stare parks are very well done. They are clean. The bathrooms and showers are exceptional especially for campers and day tourists. Interstate Park is very accessible to the metro area, only about an hours drive. The trails are well marked. There are postings with information about the pothole formations and general geography. There are scenic trails which are easily accessible to strollers or wheelchairs. There are places to rock climb and boulder. You can cruise on a paddlewheeler, or rent a kayak or canoe. There is a beach to swim, and the camp ground is handy to all of it. There is shopping and all manor of restaurants nearby as well.
A great place to go hiking! There are so many short gorgeous trails. The visitor center has great information on the geological aspects of the park and they will definitely suggest you do the pothole trail, which I agree with. Summit trail and River Bluff Trail are two more trails that yield beautiful views of river and bluffs. We suggest doing your hiking on the WI side. There are often climbers on the walls which I personally would love to try some time.
Beautiful views, nice walking trails. Some parts were rocky and required the ability to climb so not recommended for all, but such great views!
Beautiful views on the water. The fall colors are wonderful here. Cute picnic areas to stop along the river, but some only have one table, so hard to handle with a group.
Solid park. The glacier potholes were interesting but pretty dirty. The river path had a section next to a busy road and a lot of parts had no view of the river. The bluffs path was pretty but quite challenging. There were probably 100 steps on that path alone. Also very buggy. The railroad path was really flat and boring. The park is worth checking out once.
It was an awesome short hike on the MN side. Definitely need some bug spray to keep of mosquitoes towards the evening, but it was an awesome place to see something you really don't see at all!
River was calm when we went to visit. Beautiful landscape and beautiful memories. Not a place for small children unless absolute supervision is provided.
Beautiful state park on the edge on Minnesota and Wisconsin. Pothole trail is cool and unique and is probably the easiest trail with great view. The views of the st croix river are beautiful from the trails. We completed the river bluff trail, it took us 2 hours to complete and there were some great view points all along the trails. This trail can be crowded depending on the day you are visiting.
Hard to beat the convergence of Interstate State Park, Scenic Boat Tours paddlewheel, the village of Taylors Falls, and the dalles of the St. Croix River. Wonderful hiking, snowshoeing, camping, swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking along the rock formations. Check it out!
Had not been in the WI side of this park before. We hiked the pothole trail and the woods and views of the St. Croix were awesome. Trail is rocky, as you would expect, but very doable. Amazingly warm weather for early November.
Great hike trail with beautiful look out sites on the River. Great variety on the trail, not all flat groomed trails. Several steeper rock and root trail climbs. Was pretty busy at end of Sept. but still very peaceful.
Beautiful and scenic park along the St. Croix river bordering Minnesota and Wisconsin.
There are camping sites for both RVs and Tents.
Lots of walking trails, some are paved.
There is the ability to launch a Kayak or canoe. You may be able to launch a boat also.
There are restrooms nearby...some are "rustic".
Nice rangers at visitor center. Trails ok, maybe a little slippery. Park is beautiful. Lots of mosquitoes so bring your lotion.
One of my favorite places ❤️ Great views, walking distance to food and mini golf. Great place to take the family.
Great park with cool rock formations, amenities and trails! The park has restrooms and a small campground. Lots of areas around the park are known for kayaking. This park can get crowded on summer weekends.
Interstate State Park is an interesting place. There are a variety of potholes to explore. It is a great place to bring children to explore. The hiking area is relatively compact so children can explore as much as they want. A portion of the walking paths are accessible. There are rocks and cliffs to be careful around. State Park entrance fees are required. The St Croix River valley is beautiful.
Great State Park. There aren't very many trails, but the views of the river are fantastic. The Pothole Trail is the draw for a reason. The formations are stunning and the info signs are quite educational. Well worth the visit.
Love walking the trails. Stayed in Wisconsin and hiked the MN park. Would love to come back and go in to the pot hole that was filled with water if it ever drys up. We hiked the pot holes then followed the trial that goes to the campground. Then under the road and hiked the other side following an old railroad back to town. Great 3 miles hike.
I love InterState Park and have done quite a few of the hikes on the Minnesota side. This whole area of Minnesota and Wisconsin is some of my favorite topography. On this visit to the park, we hiked along a bit of the Railroad Trail and the Potholes. We didn't have a ton of time so didn't hike up the bluff but I've done that hike in the past and it is well worth it. Plan to spend several hours at this park but the recommendation is definitely to go during the week if you can swing it. Its always crowded on the weekends and rightfully so. Taylor's Falls is a wonderful little town to visit as well so you've got that as a bonus. I've also taken the paddleboat ride along the St. Croix and its a great way to learn about the history of the area. There are a ton of other attractions in this area but I think Interstate Park definitely should be an anchor to any visits you make to this area.
Small but very scenic park in MN. Offer some unique, potholes, rock climbs and trails that are hard to find in the area. The St Croix River Valley area is always fun to explore and has endless outdoor activities. Expect this park to be busy and camground to be cramped in the summer being so close to the twin cities metro area. It the winter the trails often are impassable do to the icing on the rocks.
Lots of paths with rocks of various sizes to climb. Great views of the river. Reminder to bring bug spray!
Nice small park. Lots of trails and hand rails. Just know that there is limited parking, and depending on the season, there may be biting gnats near the potholes. But the park can’t really do anything to change this.
Beautiful place with amazing views and trials to enjoy a good hike and mesmerizing views.
Great trails. You can walk to the Wisconsin park and combine both parks in one trip
Spectacular scenery of the rugged St. Croix River bluffs. Pretty rugged hiking trail - about 3 miles from park entrance to campground and back - but very scenic with lots of overlooks of the river. Some of the best hiking near the Twin Cities.
The potholes were cool, but the "world's deepest" left a little to be desired. Very cool area, nonetheless.
All in all, highly recommend adding this to your "local" bucket list of outdoor activities.
So glad google asked me to review this park!!! Okay so I went early in the morning on a Thursday I got there about 7:30 I had easy parking so I would suggest the earlier you go the better off you get a good parking spot all right so then we had a choice of different trails to go on I think they have like three or four different trails which are all between 5 mi and a mile and a half long so be prepared bring water know that you can take as many breaks as you want the weather's beautiful there's a lot of rocks to climb up the trails are rocky like I said there's a few Bridges to cross bring your camera lots of beautiful scenes lots of beautiful things to take pictures of I give it a five because I had a really great time and I think you will too enjoy
This campground was very convenient for us, fishing is close, walking trails were really good and challenging enough to feel you got a workout without killing yourself in the process ( it went all the way to the state park , to go rock climbing, see the potholes, go on the river boat, and walk into town that was super close by), camping sites were kind of close but doable, in a very wooded area, wifi was ok,. We would definitely come back here for sure!!
If you want to visit a place to soak in all the fall colors, look no further!! Trails and views are beautiful.
This park is lovely as always! The traffic noise can be a bummer, but the Wisconsin side has less of that if you hike along the river
This is a combined rating/review for the state park and campground. The glacial potholes part of the state park is a "don't miss!"
There is a small campground with the St. Croix River on one side (pretty) and Highway 8 on the other (a bit noisy at times but not terrible).
Sites aren't very private and you're rather close to neighbors but it's a relatively quiet place due to the small number of campsites. They have a mix of electric and non-electric sites. The ones directly on the river are non-electric. (For photo reference, we stayed in site 20E with our Class B RV.)
Bathhouse is old and showing its age, but seems to work well overall.
Cell service was spotty at times but stayed solid enough for the most part for decent service. Not good or great service without using our cell booster.
The main draw here is either the canoe rentals in the campground for the river or visiting the main park area with the glacial potholes, which are really neat to see. (Definitely go check those out.)
We'd stay again if passing through.
One of my favorite state parks in MN. Beautiful trails along the bluffs of the river. Bring lots of bug spray!
Taylors Falls, I didn't actually see any falls.I really liked that there weren't railings in certain places that were the edge. I believe most people have a healthy respect for the edge of cliffs. So its a great reminder to not go too far.. Other places there were railings which in those areas around the glacier cut holes.
This is a park that is on your honor to pay parking fees. A park ranger is on site. There are signs that describe more of the sites. Water fountains and bathrooms. Some people were there to fish, take photos near the cool rocks and explore.
We got up bright and early to visit this park as it opened. Absolutely gorgeous! It was amazing to hike and sightsee without too many others being around. The day was perfect and there was so much green everywhere!
One of my favorite state parks near the cities. Great for hiking, sightseeing, rock-climbing, kayaking and the campsites are nice too.
Beautiful place. I love the views and the hiking. Also a beautiful place for a small outdoor wedding.
Seriously terrible parking, but a great park. Climbing on the tricks and seeing the tiny sand huge potholes was very cool.
So great to immerse yourself in nature and climb on the rocks like a kid. 🥰
Beautiful boat ride available in Taylor falls and I recommend visiting the potholes too ! Such beautiful hikes out here.
We parked at the Interstate State Park and had a 1.4 miles hike on the River Trail to get to the scenic glacial potholes. Will be back there soon and will try to get there early to take a 2-3 hour canoe trip down the St Croix river.
Great place to hike. Great views, absolutely beautiful
Great place for a advanced hike with beautiful cliffs.
Best State park around. I've been coming here on and off my entire life. Make sure to go canoeing on the St Croix!
Viewing the call colors from the river boat. The views were gorgeous
Only an hour from the twin cities. St Croix river, potholes, Taylor's Falls. A nice park!
We spent our visit on a boat trip, total was 100 minutes trip on St. CROIX river. One bank is Minnesota and the other bank is Wisconsin. A pretty smooth cruise and an easy way to pay a visit to this Interstate State Park. Of course, it's a good place for camping!!
Beautiful park. Love all the beautiful senery and history plaques. Can't wait to visit again. Also like how the park has hand rails on the stone steps.
Very beautiful lots of fun and dog friendly 😍 …
Camped for a couple nights. Quiet. Very nice views. Right next to canoe/kayak rental and hiking trails.
Sites are quite close together and not much privacy. But this is a good option that's close to the cities. Lots of mosquitoes.
Love this park! Have not camped here yet but went hiking and had a picnic. Stunning river scenery with the bluffs! Lots of trees and hiking. Gorgeous with many nooks and crannies to explore.
Be sure to wear very good shoes that grip well. I personally found a walking stick to be very helpful. There are places you can walk that are easier, but many places the walking was very uneven and going up and down rocks. Do not let children or pets go wild here. Many places do not have rails. Personal responsibility for safety!
There is a very nice picnic area by the river with the option to rent canoes or kayaks. There are also River boat tours.
We only spent several hours here but I would very much like to go back and camp there sometime. There is more to see that we didn't get to and Taylor's Falls looks like a fun place to explore.
You can see people on the boat from high view. Easy hiking 👍 …
Gorgeous park! Check out the glacial potholes on the well-maintained trails.
Really like this state park. Definitely want to go back sometime. Great hike options, small park, lots of picnic areas. Absolutely loved it.
Extreme hiking club trail. Pretty cool, lots of rocks and stairs. Look out for potholes. Did both the river trail and the railroad trail in 90 minutes. Would have stayed longer for the sights, but i had to get my aunt her hoodie back. but ill save that for when me and my friends go camping here next year.
Super easy trails for a day’s escape. River Trail is next to highway so there’s cars sound pretty much the whole time, but the view of the river is truly amazing. Pictures don’t do the views justice!
Beautiful Hiking on The Saint Croix River.
I went here for the first time a few weekends ago, and it is now one of my favorite MN state parks! Not only is the drive beautiful, but the hike is as well. The trails are friendly for people of all ages. Or you could walk around the “pots” as well. Gorgeous sites. I can’t wait to go back!
Great State Park! It was super busy the day I went (super nice fall day) so it wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been. My dog enjoyed the hell out of it though. Lots of new smells for her birthday trip. Lots of gorgeous views and look outs along the trail and a decent hike from the campground to the "Potholes" area.
Beautiful park with scenic views on rocks, cliffs and river. 1.2 miles trail along the river is a great cardio, very enjoyable. Boat tours are very enjoyable, too!
Truly gorgeous scenery and nice trial that take you through the park, great for a day trip away from the Town Cities!
This place is so amazing! Lots of fun trails to hike on! Great for kids too. Many places to rock climb and bolder. You will not get board here nor be disappointed you came! Reminds me of up north MN along north shore with the rock cliffs and hiking. Definitely recommend!
Super cool trails that go for miles and you can take it easy and meander or challenge yourself and get steep. Perfect for the family and kids provided they're a little older. Mine are 8 & 10, so no worries there.
It was so beautiful! The weather was perfect. I had a blast. The glacier vortex holes were pretty amazing. Good hiking trails and scenic areas for photos. It costs $7 to park there which seems reasonable. I noticed there was a little bit of litter around. I picked it up, please don't litter folks. Oh there's also lots of rock faces that are great for climbing or bouldering. There's are scenic riverboat rides too but maybe they are closed because of the pandemic.
Always a fun time.Kinda a little stressful with the little ones but definately a breathtaking view.Nice place for a bit of hiking as well.
This is the MN version of Interstate State Park. Although considerably smaller than the WI version, it offers a lot of variety in that smaller area: a geological site (glacial potholes), rock climbing, hiking, camping, river boating, immediate access to Taylor's Falls and consistently fantastic fall color.
Expect very large crowds and very small parking if coming in Autumn on a sunny or otherwise pleasant weekend day. Come during the week or less than ideal weather to beat the crowds.
Note that except for the area immediately surrounding the parking area, hiking is steep and uneven for the majority of trails.
You do see quite a lot around the parking area in terms of views and colors, but if you want to see the sights you need to walk the heights - take the Sandstone Bluffs trail.
2nd time coming here... This is my favorite state park in MN (of the ones I've been to). Love kayaking on the river, but if that's not your cup of tea there are also great trails (with SHADE) and climbing areas! Highly recommend!
Excellent easy hiking that comes right out of the town of Taylor's Falls. Bring $7 for parking or park in the little town and walk under the bridge.
There are no actual falls but there are rapids.
This is a surprisingly storied town with very interesting geography. Very well worth the visit if you're in the twin cities. Bring a camera you'll want pictures to take home.
Great river views and awesome trails. Have wonderful area for free climbing, rope led, and bouldering. Also has very unique glacial pothole rock formations, so a good place to bring the kids to learn about geology. Fun for all ages.
A beautiful location with ample hiking trails to explore and enjoy. There are many scenic views and cliffs that fall directly to the wayer. Only issue is that there aren't any camping spots actually in this park, however there are a few near by. This park is nestled into a quaint riverside town clinging to the side of a hill. There are ferry rides and tours that crawl up and down the river.
great place to get away for a walk. maybe even a cozy cliff side picnic dinner. have kids, bring them along too. they'll enjoy climbing the rocks, an learning about the way the river shaped the rocks.
This has been one of my favorites. I have been coming to this park for 30 years and I still am amazed. My wife and I brought a couple with us and they were unaware of all of the beauty Minnesota has to offer and were wowed at every turn. The trails were in good shape and we hiked all of them. I would recommend the sandstone bluffs trail, it gets you away from all the crowds and let’s you feel closer to nature. If I had a criticism it would be in the parks size, and the highway runs right through the park and that road produces a lot of noise. But all and all great park and is with a trip.
Outdoor rock climbing within hiking distance, several hiking trails, and campsites on the river. The park is more an activities location rather than a nature trip in my opinion. My daughter and I found it tricky to sleep by tent due to nearby traffic and trucks downshifting to reduce speed. Very convenient location for activities and a beautiful spot is why I'd rate it 4 of 5. The traffic drops it one for me.
Great walking trails and cute ice cream shops downtown nearby. Perfect for taking photos and there were rock climbers we watched as well. Nice area!
Beautiful state park. One of my favorites! Great hiking, paths, etc. If bringing small children, make sure you hold their hand, or, better yet, have a kid leash. It allowed my 1 year old to climb all over, but not get hurt. You wouldn't want them to fall off a cliff!
June 13th was a beautiful day to do the trails! We did 4.4 miles, including kids as young as 7. The trails were well kept!
Absolutely LOVE Interstate State Park and its GORGEOUS trails! The only thing I don't like at these beautiful parks are the people who attend them with no respect for the parks regarding garbage, using foul language and shouting, or walking on the roads when there are great trails that require moderate exercise...
The 80 minute boat ride was beautiful and very relaxing. I organized a ride for my Meetup group, the staff was very friendly and easy to work with from start to finish. Taylors Falls is a pleasant place to visit, lots to see and do. A visit to the area makes a very nice day trip.
You can spend a whole day in this park and you will not have enough time to see all the breath taking views and trails here. This is a beautiful beautiful place.
If you love hiking and seeing beautiful views of the St Croix River and the cliffs gracing on both sides, then you'll love Interstate State Park, which many refer to simply as Taylor's Falls. We visited there yesterday 10/10/20 and were amazed by the vibrant fall colors! There are countless trails that lead you all along the top of the cliffs along the park. Our children explored small caves in rocks, climbed to the top of rock formations, and checked out some amazing views of the St Croix River from high above! We saw a snake, rock climbers, the Taylor's Falls Queen river boat loaded with site seers, the Taylor's Falls Princess river boat loaded with more tourists, kayakers, and so much more. I've attached a plethora of pictures for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
All season natural beauty, easy on the eyes, good for the soul and will make your heart jump for joy! This park offers the best scenery when driving or hiking. Easy access and big enough to roam without seeing too many people.
Interstate park is an amazing place, filled with beautiful views of the Saint Croix River, winding trails, towering bluffs, and of course the main attraction - the glacial potholes carves by sand and stone so many thousands of years ago.
This is truly an underrated and underappreciated gem in the Minnesota State Park system. The best way I can describe it is sublime - I went with a good friend and we were both in awe, feeling like children again marveling at the wonders of the world.
Looking for an escape from the four walls in your house? Well, pack a lunch and get your road trip on! This is a beautiful park with a lot of photo opportunities, plus climb a rock or two. If you're into that.;-)
I absolutely love Interstate Park. It's a great way to hike around whether by yourself or with a family. It's safe and convenient and it's just enough out of the cities to make it feel like you're on a little mini road trip adventure but totally easy to just do spur-of-the-moment on an afternoon. You get stunning views of the St. Croix River. Taylors Falls is a really cute little city to walk around with shops and restaurants. Also for anyone with allergies there is now a sandwich and ice cream and salad shop very close to the entrance of the park which is a great place to load up on items for your backpack picnic.
Enjoyable and short, maybe 1.5 miles, hike. Some options for folks less physically inclined. Absolutely stunning views. Kid friendly.
It a nice park you can go hiking, boat tour, picnic area, trail walking, close to stores and restaurants, canoe rentals fishing fun spot in a small town. Good place to spend a day
Great day for a fall hike, even though it was past peak it was beautiful. Took the river trail to the glacial potholes and back. Rugged terrain gets easier to navigate as you get used to the trail. Plenty of safe opportunities for great pics, it isn't necessary to go to the edge of a cliff without a proper barrier. Went to Juneberry Cafe after, so yummy!
St Croik's river is so beautiful and massive. Several river trails will warmly welcome you. Several outdoor activies like canoeing, fishing, and kayaking are great attractions to travelers. Not far from Twin cities.
Unique topography from every other state park I've visited. The view of the river and Rocky cliffs are worth seeing but the real draw is canoeing or kayaking on the river. Rentals for both are available in the park including a shuttle ride back to the launch location.
The park is beautiful! It was $7 for a day pass or $35 for the year, so I hot the annual pass and I'll be coming back for sure! I took my daughter and her friends on a kayaking trip and now we all want to do it again and again!
I really enjoyed this park I've been here a few times., but never in the winter! Beautiful place to hike!
What a beautiful and fun place to walk
Nice State Park for a quick hike in a very beautiful area right on the St. Croix river. Be sure to check out the glacial potholes in the north part of the park and imagine the shear power glacial waters had to have to be able to drill into basalt bed rock left from when the United States almost split in half.
This is a wonderful park. Great fun to explore with or without kids. Lots to see and do. The campgrounds are only a couple miles away from the visitor center. Campsites are kind of close together. The facilities are clean and everyone seems to get along just fine in the relatively small campground.
It's beautiful park, lots of trails site setting, the beach is amazing, we've been camping here for about 15+years highly highly recommend Interstate St Park
This park is great! The views on the river trail are awesome. The railroad trail has a lot of stairs so pe prepared. After the stairs, it's really pretty flat though. When you get back to the old rail road depot it does get a little confusing on how to get back to the park entrance. I had to stop in the gas station and ask. There is a path under the road. Don't go straight across the road because it seems like a pretty dangerous intersection and there is no cross walk so it's technically illegal. Exploring the glaciers pot hole area was fun and interesting too.
This park is so cool! We highly recommend exploring the rock formations and potholes here. There are nice views of the river from the rocks as well. Even though it's pretty small, it is well worth the stop.
I have been coming to Interstate for the last 25 years. I have always been impressed by both the MN and WI sides. The sites are beautiful, clean and easily accessible. Whether it's huge group sites, or tucked away single sites, this campground has something for eveybody!
This last visit was for a camp wedding and birthday! They staff were wonderful and accommodating. I love this park, and I will always come back.
Make a donation and support the arts. This is an awesome place. I realized we missed much on my first visit, but it is definitely a terrific place to visit and explore. For me, art is art, and not always understood by me. I can love certain works, but appreciate all, particularly the effort it takes to produce some of these large pieces.
Definitely worth a visit.
Great place for a day trip, and hiking with great views! Even better in the off season when the park is empty (I'm not much of a tourist.) If you're a state park sort of camper, it's nice for that too, with canoe rentals, great picnic shelters, and sheltered campsites.
Absolutely Beautiful!!! Go more than once every year for years. Kids love exploring.
Great place to have a picnic and for hiking. Amazing view on a river. If I could give 10 stars, I will.
Nice place to camp well maintained trails make for good hikes lots of fun stuff to see and do.
Great scenery, cool glacial potholes, but I didn't like being so close to the highway the entire hike.
Admittedly we didnt have long to stay, but with the cliffs and steep drops, we didnt feel comfortable with our young kids here anyways. Would be a great park for exploring with older kids with a good sense of danger or adults. Need to keep younger kids very close.
Great place to enjoy the MN-WI border and indulge the scenic river. Boat tours available and lots of trails to hike.
I love this place!! So beautiful and peaceful! Didn’t make it to the falls last time but still super enjoyable! ❤️❤️❤️ Can’t wait to go again
Had a very nice walk with lots of little flowers starting to blossom all along the trail. Wonderful scenery of the bluffs on the St. Croix River.
First time up here and I was very pleased with how nice of a hike it was with beautiful scenery!
Great place to visit! We love the views!
Great trails of varying difficulty with many beautiful lookout points. Pull up a spot and enjoy the world for a moment.
We only went on a couple of the many hiking trails. Wish we would have had more time. Beautiful place!
It is a nice park with amazing scenery. The difficult part is the main trail that is narrow. There is a high volume of visitors, and there are muddy spots on the trail that made it difficult getting around people.
This was a highlight for me on my adventure. This park has so many neat facts. I love that you can see the wisconsin interstate state park across the river. I could've spent hours looking around here. For some reason rocks are my fave and there are.so many cool things to see here.
Right off the highway. Lies a beautiful state park. Every corner you turn is a different view point. So many fun rock formations. And a great lookout point to watch the fairies boats go up and down the river. State Park enthusiast this a 10. Even if you're not outdoorsy person that's a good way to stretch your legs. If you're on a long car ride And take a little walk. I encourage everybody to stop. Worth the $7 entry get some fresh air.
Nice park right on the St Croix river. Great views if the river! Went in mid April and it was well drained and dry after a recent heavy snow and rain. Spots were clean and level. Inner loop sites have electric only (no full hookup sites at all). Right next to a busy highway, so some road noise but not bad. Keeping this on our list of parks to come back to.
Took, my niece and nephew here to visit the glacial potholes and they had, so much fun with all the rock formations, overlooks, and climbing they got to do. However, if taking children do keep close to them as there are many steep rock outcropping, sheer cliffs, and minimal railings.
Beautiful park with well kept trails. The Wisconsin side is better if you're the more serious/adventurous hiker. If you're more into the touristy stuff with easy trails, the Minnesota side is the way to go. The day pass for Wisconsin is more expensive as well, but totally worth it.
Lovely place. Great paths and stunning views.
Cool place to check out the river and the pot holes are pretty cool too. Lots of views here!
So easy!! And such a quick drive! An hour and a half from the west metro and we were there. $7 to park, grabbed a free map at the kiosk before the visitors center opened, and we were on the trail. We kept venturing off the trail and all kinds of sweet little spots, all with incredible views. Every next spot we found was our new favorite. The quiet Monday morning was so perfect. We goi g to come back and camp for sure, and we'll be bringing our canoe and climbing harnesses for sure!
A beautiful walk, though unfortunately some of it was right by a highway. I was only able to be there for a couple of hours but definitely want to go back and see if I can make my way down to the river. Looks like there were good places to go rock climbing as well.
Awe-inspiring landscape with trails and treacherous terrain to traverse and trek for sport, recreation, exploration, leisure, learning and the simple love of nature.
Great place to rent a canoe or kayak and see 7 miles of the scenic river.
First time to visit this MN 's gem. Enjoyed the hike and boat ride. Beautiful scenery and rock formation. Worth the drive.
I can't complain, beautiful landscape with tons to adore. I'm a 56 year old man that did the walk and I loved it. It wasn't grueling or easy. I do advise plenty of fluids to drink.
Interstate State Park is a beautiful park shared by WI and MN, it has great views of the St Croix River with unique bluffs along the shore. The Pothole Trail is short, but probably the most unique trail in WI, and it marks the West Terminus of the National Scenic Ice Age Trail.
Nice park. $7 parking per day
Great park! Fall colors were beautiful. Didn't get to spend a lot of time there but will definitely go back and take advantage of the rest of the park.
$7 entry to park, great location for hike, lots of trails, ancient potholes made of water tornadoes to see st site, rest rooms and parking at site. Great views of St Croix river and you can take river cruise also from this location.
Good for hiking. Catch the Scenic beauty and lots pictures can taken beside the river. For parking $7 for a day or $35 for a year.
We stayed in campsite #17E. It was a nice small spot close to the River Trail (Hiking Club) which brings you right to the Glacial Potholes 1.25 miles one way. The trail is fun and pretty easy. Make sure you have good comfortable shoes because you will be climbing small rocks along the trail to go up and down hills. Mosquitos were thick. Especially the closer you got to the river itself.
Taylor Falls. The business district filled with diners, malt shops, and small businesses is across the street from the Vistors Center. Perhaps you all would like to hike from camp to see the potholes and stop for an ice cream cone or burger before you hike back.
Such a beautiful, peaceful place! The hiking, the boat rides, and scenery are Incredible! Everyone should see this! Wonderful!
This place helps with Grounding. I recommend anyone with depression to come for a walk and take your shoes off. Dig those feetsies into the sand and just sit there. I promise your mind will feel lighter and you will breathe better. It's perfect here. There's a cute bridge for amazing pictures aswell.
A nice little park on the banks of the Saint Croix river. The parking situation is a bit challenged. This might be a better venue for cyclists and hikers than for people with cars.
Very cool area with hiking trails, beautiful views and numerous glacial potholes that were carved through the rocks thousands of years ago. Most of the paths are very accessible.
Love this park. Enjoyable trails, although there were a couple of spots where the signage could have been clearer and more obvious. Went on a weekday and it was nice and quiet! Gorgeous views.
MN Interstate State Park permit or fee required. Amenities include: Boat launch, restrooms, camping for RVs and tents, reservations, recommended as this place is very scenic and popular; with various hiking trails (stay on trails, not safe off the trails and do not throw rocks as there are different trails and hikers, campers and fishermen on the river edges) riverboat paddlewheel tours, Glacier Potholes left from the Ice age, very Rocky and very steep near the trails. The River walking trail to Glacier Potholes and back to camping park 2.5 miles round-trip. I totally recommend this experience. Beware of small jagged rocks and roots ready to take you down. Think safety at all times while hiking. Dogs are welcome and bring your own poo-bags and please clean up after your pets which is the norm here.
Great, unique park features. Tent sites along the river are excellent. One of the most scenic short hikes in Minnesota.
Small but packed with tons of great views. Busy on the weekends. Lots of rock climbers to watch. The trail in the west side of the road is less traveled and more challenging. Gets buggy mid summer, bring DEET.
Great trails, fun information on signage, wonderful views
Very unique place to visit, especially if you’re into geological formations. Great hikes and scenery for the fam.
Such a relaxing place to come and visit. I will return with a little better walking shoes. The air the nature, the people made all possible for a pleasant experience.
I like this place it's not too far from the city and it's a great to take your family for a hike.
Scenic beauty everywhere is this park, bring your own kayak and paddle up to Taylor falls, worth the effort
Nice staff. Enough walking/hiking trails to make it feel like you're really *experiencing* the St Croix River valley. ♥️
Beautiful scenery and geologic sights! Whats not to love!? Cold out there today but I managed to enjoy myself none the less. Dont let kids run around on their own! Cliff drops into St. Croix river no joke!
It’s beautiful place to visit. We went there with our one year old and the Wisconsin side of the park is picturesque. Tranquility blankets this place.
One of my favorite parks for hiking, kayaking and overall site seeing (especially for geology buffs). Really the only down fall for me is the crowds on the weekends
Well maintained paths, beautiful nature.
St. Croix river very beautiful. Cliff formations so unique and the town so quaint and welcoming! A place to find peace.
Good place for trekking and hiking with family or friends in Taylors Falls. Amazing views.
This park offers an incredible view of the St. Croix River. The glacial potholes in the rock are really neat to see. It is hard to imagine the amount time it took for them to be created and the depth of them.
Great place for a day hike. The bluffs are fun to overlook and scramble. Be careful though, a few deaths in the past.
Great hiking, gorgeous scenery especially when there isn’t a drought and there’s more waterfalls and such to see
We went for fall color hike and now it became one of my favorite. This place has so much to offer, biking, hiking, boating. Loved it.
One of my favorite state parks, beautiful scenery and great hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty and easily accessible parking to access both sides (MN and WI) with each side side being unique and beautiful!
Beautiful scenery! The glacier pot holes were gorgeous! The river walk was nice but it was too long and we didn't get to walk too far. So we didn't get to see much of the river. Either way, it was beautiful!
Good beginner hike trails.
A nice place to hike through. Excellent places to look over the cliffs at the river. Places to sit and take in the surrounding scenery. Well worth the time.
Amazing geography and beautiful setting
Beautiful location for an adventure!
We rented canoe here, it cost 50 for 1 canoe, 2 paddles, 2 life jackets and a ride on the bus back to our car. Parking at the state park was an additional 7 dollars, that allowed us to then park in overlook park right down the road, i highly recommend going to check it out, nice walking trails and beatiful bluffs. We canoed to Osceola it took us about 3 hours, its a lot of paddling because the current is slow. Its a lot of fun
This place is great...I'd park in Taylor's Falls and walk in from there.
Beautiful stone features all around
Amazing views and friendly park rangers.
This was a great place to take my kids for a day trip. The views are awesome and there are interesting signs explaining how the pot holes and the park was created. It only took about 40 minutes to drive here from the east side of the cities. I'll definitely be coming back.
Very pretty state park, but it can get very busy, and some of the trails are by the road so it can get noisy.
Not a whole lot of trails (unless I missed something), but pretty cool park with a lot of informational signs, and great views of the river!
This is a favorite park for me.
Best hiking you're going to find locally. You can hike into Wisconsin and get a decent amount of miles.
Great place for hiking and exploring off the beaten trail. Be sure to wear good footwear that will not slip on wet rocks.
A good escape from the polluted cities, there are lots of attractions to benefit from, a few routes for hiking, enjoyable pathways, endless fun for everyone!!! Not to mention Cascades of water falls makes your photos unbelievable!!!
Restrooms are open in the main building.
Great place to rent a canoe or kayak and paddle down the st croix. They run a shuttle so it's easy to do a one way river paddle but plan a good 3 or 4 hours if you're taking it easy.
Beautiful Minnesota State Park camping along the St. Croix River. Only one hour from St. Paul up along hwy 95.
Beautiful and relaxing! Love hiking here
Awesome park! Great for climbing and exploring, and so beautiful!
This is our favorite place to hike!! Beautiful all year round and always a cool adventure! Go there in fall when the leaves change it is so pretty! Great place for photos too!
Fantastic spot to canoe. Beautiful scenery. Plenty of options as far as rentals and shuttles go. Very covid friendly right now. We took our 3 dogs out on a rental canoe and it went fantastic!
The trails are lovely and the view of the lake is pretty. However, camping there was pretty meh. It is so close to the interstate that it is quieter on my street in south Minneapolis. If I was in a camper or trailer I would probably feel a little different, but for tent camping I just can't really recommend it because of the constant noise from the interstate.
Great place to hike relax and crawl
Great place for top rope rock climbing! Even when the St Croix River eats my belay device... This is one of my favorite places to go in Minnesota.
Neat place to play on the rocks with older kids.
Very nice little park. I only walked through the glacial pothole area but that part of the park was very nice with many opportunities to walk off the path, view the potholes, and get right up to the edge of the river.
The children lived being able to rock climb, getting out in the open and outdoors. It was very interesting to find an area where it was 30° cooler in somewhat of a gully. The children thought that was a cool experience. The park ranger was so super sweet.
The boat rides are still closed. There was an automatic pay booth or scanner for phones for parking. It was $7 for the day.
Phenomenal for Parkour all over! There were signs for poison ivy, however, we didn't see any.
Absolutely love this place!! I've been here hundreds of times, and it's always a new adventure.
Interstate Park is always a fun place to visit anytime of year. Hiking the trails along the river, seeing the glacial potholes, or taking a paddle boat ride is fun and relaxing.
Have been here a few times over the years, butt just discovered the hiking trails on the west side of highway 8. Had a great time hiking up and down Sandstone Bluff Trail.
Amazing rock formations with path and handrails. The "potholes" are impressive. View of the St Croix River below.
The cliffs, the river and the wildlife make this a great place to hike, camp and kayak
Beautiful hike along the river, you can barely hear the freeway next to the trail. Went down the river trail, was very busy on a fall Sunday. Since this is a Minnesota park everyone was a tree hugger from Minneapolis. I wore my MAGA hat and no one acknowledged my existence. It was as if I were the only one there. Amazing!
Nice trails and beautiful overlook along the River trail.
Great place to go for a long walk and get away from the city and the fast life. It was so peaceful.
We had a brief afternoon to explore and kayak. Even the low water line could not dim the enjoyment. We only wish we had more time to explore - we will be back for a return visit.
Great time for the family and cool learning experience for all who visit; especially the kiddos. The beauty of the river valley is memory you can't get enough of. A must see.
It was absolutely amazing brought the family out there for a Sunday funday and we we'll definitely be going back to spend a weekend sometime family friendly atmosphere as well as pet friendly I'm sure as long as it's leashed tons of hiking camping canoeing rock climbing fishing you name it it's out there so bring your friends and family out I'm sure you won't regret it
Loved the potholes and views of the St. Croix River at this park! Much of the park was stroller-accessible too, which was a plus.
Great paths, family oriented, scenic views. Went on a Sunday around noon on a nice day and the paths were very busy. We passed a group of people about every 15 seconds. there is a drinking fountain in the potholes area by the parking lot, as well as garbages and visitor center. The gas station is also right across the street for supplies. Dog friendly!
Went here a while back, breathtaking views when driving in from the city. I’ve never seen so many trees/greenery/rivers at once it was SO beautiful. There’s a gas station right in front of the entrance, parking was easy to find. Be ready for a long walk and the occasional climbing, be sure to wear comfy shoes/clothes. I’d advise you leave your sunglasses at home, I lost my raybans during the hike. Great place to release all your woes and just appreciate nature.
Fun small town place, friendly service, good eats and yummy drinks! Comfy ambiance.
Great place to get out and climb some good routes. Other than the annoying amount of tourists, I had a great time.
We went to both, Minnesota and Wisconsin side. Both were great. Don’t stay on the trail, wonder off and explore. You can’t get lost.
Nice small park with great views along the bluffs of the St. Croix River.
3-4 miles worth of hiking. My favorite trail was the sandstone bluff.
by the river you can check out some of the glacial pot holes.
not the biggest state park, but the proximity to the cites and the variety of terrain really do it for me.
It was a little busy but that's what you get on labor day weekend. Trying to go to all the state parks I can. It was a great visit
Beautiful scenery. Hiking was fun but there are a number of stairs that were pretty steep.
Always enjoy the state park systems. Plenty to do and enjoy the views
Great views and nicely spaced out camp sights. No showers facilities which was a bummer but still had a public bathroom and hand sanitizer
Some parts of the paths are right by the busy, loud road. I recommend parking in town and walking in, saves you $7 parking.
Fantastic park to visit with many beautiful sites to see and trails to hike!
Wonderful park to take the kids and dogs (on a leash). Parking is limited so get there early. You might also find that a tour is being held.
Great park with scenic River Trail that is fairly easy. Enjoy the potholes area and rented a canoe to go down river which was awesome.
Convenient launch for kayaks and canoes. Hiking trail along the St. Croix River offers scenic views and stunning overlooks! The trail is somewhat challenging changes in terrain surfaces and grade types and elevations, so be prepared with drinking water and proper shoes with a decent grip.
Good trails, abit trampled in places but it's not the parks fault. Beautiful throughout the park. I won't go on holidays again or major weekends, HOARDS of people.
Beautiful place to visit. Dog friendly on a leash (of course) Wear a good pair of shoes! Some of this adventure requires some hiking. Very worth it.
Just stopped here on my way back to Hudson but its beautiful and I am excited to return to explore and hike here
Really cannot beat the views. Bring some good shoes and be extra careful in the winter.
This place was beautiful. Only $5 for parking for the entire day. Gorgeous scenery.
Cool glacial rocks. Saw lots of rock climbing going on. Cool place to do some hiking.
Great way to spend the day. Malt shop not far, sculpture garden up on the hill and rocks to climb for the kids. One complaint was that on a Saturday in early April all there was for a bathroom was one port-a-potty and it was disgustingly full. But I'm sure it's not like that all the time.
We had Super fun here.. We took a boat ride and it was mesmerising experience.
Amazing park. Take 3 days to be able to enjoy everything. The steam bot ride, kayaks and scenic views.
Beautiful park. Minnesota side has a nice visitor center and paddle boat rides too.
Trails are mediocre. Climbing there seemed to be really fun. A fire department was training there scaling cliffs as well as a ton of civilians.
One of the best parks in the state.. beautiful scenery and history.
Several well maintained trails to explore. Beautiful day!
Beautiful scenery and interesting history. It's the only place I've ever seen a glacial pothole.
Absolutely gorgeous park. I go there almost every year during Summer and Fall. Very scenic trails.
Have to reserve/pay for campsite via state website, but internet access is spotty and website is quirky. — suggestion plan ahead if possible. Nice site sizes. Electric sites look to be on inner sites, but didn’t see electric on the sites by the water. Looked like a nice place to check out but wound up leaving as the office closed at 4:30 and we got there at 6. Unable to pay for site and was not able to explore area. Looks great will know this ahead next time.
A great place to start your travels down the St Croix River
A short and sweet park to visit and perfect for kids. The only negative is trying to get a day pass.
There are two Interstate State Parks that people know, the one off the highway at Taylors Falls where are you look over the Bluffs. The second is the area where you can rent canoes and kayaks and go camping and feel like you're in the wilderness.
Spent the night camping here with the kids. We had site #10. A great camp site with river access via a small path that let me fish while the kids played. Had a bit of an incident at the beginning where my son got stung by wasps at one of the potholes informational signs... Staff was great by giving us some topical medicine to help soothe the stings, and they got someone there immediately to take care of the nest!
Love coming here every year. So many trails, clean, beautiful!
We had the naturist tour of the pot rocks and it was fun and educational.
The pothole park and kayak rentals are the highlights. As far as other state park features, the Wisconsin side has more.
This place was really beautiful. Great place to go for numerous reasons including to have fun or take pictures! Awesome all around!
This is a must see State Park! Beautiful views of the St. Croix!
We enjoy kayaking down the river. Beautiful scenery, very relaxing, we really love going kayaking on the St. Croix River.
It was beautiful but it started raining so we had to cut our trip short.
We did a class today using water colors to draw nature. This was a great experience and will be including this on our hikes!
The best park I've been to in Minnesota thus far. Look forward to coming back. Nice trails that are groomed but not too groomed so that they're boring.
I’ve been going here with my partner since we first met in the fall of 2001. We typically go in the fall, but I’ve been in all seasons and it doesn’t disappoint. The trails can be as adventurous or as tame as you like, from flat and some paved areas to areas for rock climbing. The nearby town of Taylors Falls has a real charm and is within walking distance. I go for the fall colors, the beautiful river, wildlife, and to learn about the geology of the area and all of the glacial potholes. It’s a really fun place for anyone.
Fun, well-groomed trails.
The area is beautiful lot of walking and sights perfect for pictures
It is beautiful in the fall. There are alot of trails that vary in difficulty. We were on the Wisconsin side
Beautiful place, alot to explore and see. The kids love to climb the rocks
Beautiful. I had no idea about the potholes. Very fascinating. A treasure!
Nice State Park & short drive from the cities. If you are there to hike I would recommend parking at the picnic/campgrounds area. Lots of parking & plenty of spots when I left in the afternoon. I started on the River Trail. Moderate hike with some rocky areas. Beautiful views of the St Croix River. Trail ends at the Glacier Pot Holes. Instead of going back the same way I headed across the highway to the Railroad Trail - well maintained but lots of stairs. Veered off on to the Sandstone Bluffs trail which was amazing but get ready for narrow rugged trails and lots of stairs - wooden & rock! Ends back at the Picnic area for a nice loop. Great picnic area. And a place to rent canoes & Khakis. Only downside - trails run along Hwy 8 so not as peaceful as some parks.
If you love nature then you'll love being here
Beautiful views and unique geological features with a short and easy hike. Park is smaller than you'd think.
Beautiful. Amazing forests and riverine landscapes. Great beach .
The best Minnesota state park on the St. Croix. The trail along the river is great to do from the camping area to the falls, and then taking the railroad trail back and finishing it with the sandstone bluffs. Something to note as of right now, the tunnel under the highway is blocked due to snow near the camping area, and the park doesn't want you crossing the highway, but that's really the only option if you don't want to walk a mile and a half back to Taylors Falls. Your best bet is to cross the highway safely, but if you want to trek through the snowy buggy tunnel, thats another option.
The River Trail offered lots of beautiful views of the river.
I drive two hours every week, just to go here for a long hike. It's by far my favorite state park in Wisconsin/Minnesota. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't been, as I find the park is severely underrated. The topography and trees are beautiful, and the river is breathtaking. Truly a special place.
This is my favorite state park in the metro area. Compact park but the views are great year-round! Heads up: most facilities are seasonal and closed for the winter; plan accordingly.
Lovely place for kids and pets great views and lots of potholes
Whether your idea of fun is hiking, rock climbing, a boat tour, or spending time with the family, Taylors falls is an incredible journey!
Fantastic scenery! What an amazing landscape!! Crazy to realize what happened here 10,000 years ago!
Amazing!! This hike fed my soul. Challenging forsure but so worth it
First time rock climbing was here almost 15 years ago. Came back now to show the little guy this place too while in town
Very busy on weekends. Last time there was an RC car group there and I tell you what, that little car trying to get up a rock for ten minutes is loud. Lots of climbing and bouldering groups. It's fun to take the kids to climb around, but definitely not the secluded nature experience one usually gets on a hike.
Fantastic place for a family trip. Great trails and good enough for a five year old to complete with some challenges. Great over looks throughout the trails. Visitor center had restrooms available for the family to use. The lady in the center was super courteous and polite in assisting me with a year pass to the state parks.
Such a blasé name for a really beautiful park in a gorgeous area of Minnesota on the St. Croix river. Bluffs, beautiful views, trails, cliffs for climbing, canoeing, kayaking, picnicking, swimming.
Hiking is challenging but the scenery is beautiful. It is a busy state park. Took a great class with the park naturalist on art and nature I learned techniques on watercolor pencils that I will use.
Gorgeous views and great hiking trails!
Great park. Spent a night here on our honeymoon.
A very good weekend getaway with a decent hike trail
People should definitely take a trip out there and walk the trails
It was a good hike. Some tough terrain walking on and around rocks. Beautiful views of the river.
Rented a kayak and kayaked to Osceola. Nice 3 hour paddle.
Great hike around the pot hole loop overlooking the river
Beautiful park in every season! We love coming here!
What a beautiful state park.. the trails are awesome. The views of the St Croix are beautiful.
Great for beginners and experienced campers! Great for family and friends!
launched our kayaks from this park. it's absolutely beautiful!
This is the biggest amount of whirlpools like this in the world. I wish they would clean them out and maybe drain some of them too. Such a shame to live so close to such an amazing place but they don't take proper care of it.
It's a good stop if you're in the area. We did several of the hiking trails and they're ok, but not a huge payoff at the end of the trails/loops. The camping seemed like the real draw, but we weren't able to take advantage. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way just for the trails, but it was okay since we had an air b&b nearby on the river and needed a daytime activity for the kids and dog.
Excellent hiking trails with rock bluffs and hidden waterfalls during the spring season. Can easily hike to from downtown St. Croix Falls.
There trails are great and the views breath taking!
I was disappointed that there were not more trails to explore. Great views from the cliffs but not a lot to look at otherwise.
Always amazing! Both sides of the river. Always finding new things I didn't see before.
best place for canoying kayaking had a good time..a day well spent..good for beginers too..
had no plan , still able to finish 7 plus miles canoying..staff was helpful in getting us back to the parking lot in car.
BEAUTIFUL!!! We hiked one of the shorter trails and it took us over huge rocks and up some slight hills.
Always a fun time. Great photo spots and easy hiking.
My favorite state park to visit. Lots of good hiking and scenery
Fun little walk with cool views.
It's a beautiful park full of trails overlooking the St. Croix River. They have nice campsites with clean facilities. The fishing on the river or in the lake is great! It's a nice getaway just off the beaten path. However, the North campsite does have some traffic noise.
Great place for day hiking.
The trails are moderately challenging and the views are beautiful. You can pretty freely explore the glacial rock formations, and there are places for rock wall climbing. You can rent kayaks and paddle downstream to two locations and there's a shuttle back. There's camping as well. This is a great MN state park, and the other half in Wisconsin is great too!
One of my favorite places to hike. It's beautiful. Wear shoes with good tread for rock climbing!
Unique place to explore with gorgeous views of the St. Croix River!
Love the river trail, but crowded on the weekends, including families with young children and hikers of all levels. There are places where you can't really pass in both directions, particularly on some of the ups and downs, so be prepared to be patient. Even though it is not a novice trail, at peak times it gets a good deal of foot traffic.
Great river views! Best to go in the off season to avoid crowds. Wish they had more/longer trails.
The best state park within an hour of the Twin Cities.
Fine walking trails. The scenes from the cliffs are amazing!!
Nice little jaunt on a beautiful day!
I love Taylor's Falls/Interstate State Park. Beautiful scenery. Great place to go all year round. It's a popular destination for fall lovers! I highly recommend getting there in the morning to beat the traffic since it does get hectic over there.
Rugged and beautiful state park on the Wisconsin side of the St. Croix river. Many challenging hiking trails along river bluffs, through canyons, and forested areas. Fishing in places and swimming in the river by beach areas. Very relaxing and enjoyable park. Highly recommend.
Beautiful park in the summer and winter months!!
Really cool place to take the family. A little bit of everything for everyone.
Such a beautiful place to hike and climb!
Great place for a quick hike. Interesting history spots to read about.
Interstate state park is a great place to go as a family. There is a lot of fun rocks to climb, a Riverside trail to go on (about 1.25 miles), and great information on glacial potholes. You can even take a Riverside tour, if you wish. The main part of the park does have a paved trail down to the river with a view of a few facial pot holes. As a family, after our state park adventure, we took a short walk into the tourist downtown area and got some icecream, just a short walk away.
Beautiful park will natural rock formations. Must visit!
I really had a good time at the Minnesota side of Interstate State Park today. There was a logical 3.8 mile hike through the park's three most important trails that was a high quality workout on hilly ground near the river as well as providing an assortment of great views and photo opportunities. Of course, the highlight was the climbing--there was plenty of boulder space available with lots of novice climber friendly problems. I didn't try the roped, but there were plenty of people there for that who seemed thrilled. Really enjoyed this park and would definitely recommend!
Can get very busy, especially on the weekends. This is more of a "city hike" than a traditional hike, so many folks do not understand hiking etiquette. Nice trail, that is somewhat challenging in areas (rocky, uneven and sometimes slick areas). Views are amazing. Potholes are fascinating.
Great park close to town. Fun club house for kids and families. Nice bathrooms and hot showers. Great trails.
Campground is smaller compared to other state parks so the traffic is low thru camp area and its perfect for groups to have sites close together. The highway can be noisy at times, but the pros for the campground out weigh the highway noise.
Nice park. The Glacier Holes were cool. The trail was well kept. It was extremely busy (holiday weekend and likely the last decent day before winter). We didn't like how busy it was so we did a lot of off trail crawling around on the rocks.
I went hiking here on Saturday, arriving around 9:30am. There were several others with the same idea, but still plenty of parking. This was my first time at this park. Beautiful trails and lovely campground. They offer canoe and kayak rentals. The leaves were beautiful. There was plenty of room to move about. The trails are narrow in some areas, so you may want to have a mask handy if you are worried about exposure.
I would definitely recommend arriving early on weekends. I'm not sure if it's always busy, or extra busy because of pandemic closures.
We drove through town when we were leaving, but there were tons of people, motorcycles, tourists, etc.
A great hike if you are looking for a rockier trail similar to the north shore. Great for kids who love to climb and jump off to is. Stunning views of the river, and be sure to check out the glacial potholes!
Enjoyed the park. Parking is limited and can fill up pretty quick. There's public restroom. Trails were fine. Not hard, especially for beginners. Easy walk across to town to buy snacks and explore. Well kept and clean.
Absolutely beautiful with all the fall leaves changing colors
Great park. Miles of beautiful trails to hike.
Gorgeous, mostly clean trails, most of which my fiancé and I would classify as "moderate" on the difficulty scale. Something beautiful to look at everywhere you turn. Nice picnic areas tucked away throughout the park. Visiting the quaint town of Taylor's Falls and Interstate Park will be a regular thing for us this year. Great way to spend the day.
Beautiful hikes and the potholes are fascinating. Both sides of the river (WI and MN) are beautiful
School field trip was great. The children learned about invertebrates, pot holes, birds and went for a hike. We loved it.
Nice park, big, and lots of spaces for a picnic.
Great rock climbing and good trails to walk with the family.
Beautiful and well-maintained park. Perfect place to go in the fall to see peak colors. The bluff trail was a good workout and the river trail is so scenic. The only downside is that it is BUSY and right by a noisy road. Not the park’s fault by any means—but if you’re looking for a more quiet place this may not be your best bet (at least on a weekend).
Great place for walking/hiking and family/friend get togethers. Very beautiful in the fall.
Such a beautiful fall hike! The colors were turning. It made the picturesque river even more beautiful
If you enjoy hiking and beautiful scenery with amazing geology, then you must visit Interstate State Park. Between the glacial potholes and the basalt bluffs, there are some astonishing sites to see at this beautiful state park. The trails are neatly groomed, and there are plenty of markings and maps around to make navigation easy.
Love this place, beautiful scenery, especially in fall!!
Its amazing to be a part of an experience such as this.
To know that the Earth can create such beautiful things.
Kids loved this. Fun little hikes with lots of information along the paths.
This was my first time here. Came for the rock climbing and have to admit I was blown away. We spent most of the morning on the "piece of cake" run. What an amazing view when you get to the top. All the other folks there were very respectful of space and were very friendly. Loved it so much, had to get an annual park pass. Thank you to the folks who keep this place up and running during these difficult times. Mad respect to you all. Can't wait to get back to check out more climbing runs.
Walking around the Glacial Potholes was really fun for us and the kids. The river trail also had some fantastic views of the valley. Be sure to do the canoeing/kayaking, we go at least once a year as a group!
Beautiful park and boat ride on St Croix River. The trails were great for hiking and the weather was beautiful.
So pretty, but don’t expect to see any waterfalls
Love the views, a great place to hangout BBQ,swim and have some great family get together.
It's a nice park. There are a few trails, which can be fairly rugged as the climb up and down the bluffs. Good views of the river valley. Highway 8 runs along the length of the park, so vehicle noise can sometimes intrude on a quiet moment.
Great trails for hiking along the river. The main park area is fun to check out the potholes. The parking gets full very fast on the weekends. You can walk into downtown Taylors Falls after a hike for some ice cream.
Amazing place that developed remarkably from a geological event thousands of years ago. Great to see families and a lot of young people climbing the rocks.
Great trails around the river and old rail line. Trails are a pretty easy hike although there are some rough climbs and tall stairs. Lots of the trail is shaded which is nice on a hot day. Unfortunately, some fellow hikers don't respect the trail and there is noticeable litter around.
It was HOT! that day. The shade of the path helped a lot. Nice scenic views. The Glacier Potholes were pretty cool. Make sure to park at the camp closer to Taylor's Falls proper.
It's a mile and a half walk between the two parks. It's a good walk, but the south end is not a good place to start. Loved it though!
Always love Interstate Park. Beautiful views and awesome, difficult trails.
Great campsites, complete with a picnic table and fire ring. The park has several bathrooms throughout and showers for seasonal use. Noise from the interstate may be an issue at night for some. Wonderful hiking along the gorge with informational audio tours at various spots around the park (audio tour requires cell phone for calls).
Great hiking and wonder scenic views of the St Croix
Such a beautiful landscape and great sight seeing.
Pretty but walking tail along highway and a bit noisy on the MN side.
Beautiful, fun trails, breathtaking views. This location is a must see!
Great hiking, kids loved the adventure of it all.
Nice easy hike if you stay on the paved trails. Some trails are just too dangerous to try to climb through. I thought these should be better marked. "You are here" maps posted throughout the trails would be helpful, too. Really educational though, in terms of the geology of the area.
Cool place amongst the rocks with pathways.
Get a taste of the North Shore near the Twin Cities. Located in Taylor's Falls, Minnesota, Interstate State Park provides some fun hiking along the National Scenic St. Croix river. Don't miss the Glacial Pothole Trial.
Wonderful place for birthday adventures! And their was a bonus adventure surprise up at the glacial potholes of bouldering areas. Tons of fun, would go again!
Love this park! We came here as a children and we made many trips here with our children and grand children. Hiking, canoeing, camping, etc. Thank you, Interstate Park!
Super awesome hikes. Lots of challenges.
Some of he camper sites are DOMED so you have to be careful backing in or camp on a slant. Several noisy yappy dogs at 3 different sites around us. Beautiful area and friendly helpful staff. Facilities are a little older than other State Parks.
Nice bathroom. Nice personal showers. Would be nice to have a place to wash dishes by bathrooms/showers. House flies but little to no mosquitos.
This place is filled with natural beauty. Nice park with the river flowing across. Stunning views of this place. Nice weather conditions here. Huge spacious park with green surroundings, huge trees located in all the places of this park. The river sight is awesome. Famous for fishing and canoeing. The rocky surface is very popular amongst the hiking groups.
Great place to be if visiting Minnesota. Well organized.
Great place to explore, plenty of trails to hike, nice beach area. There are 2 areas for camping but only 1 of them has showers so if you are at the other site it is 2 miles to the showers.
Unique and beautiful state park on both sides of the state lines. Excellent for rock climbing, hiking, biking, and camping. The glacial potholes are fun to explore, and the walking path under the bridge is awesome.
Nice place to hike. Trail is good.. specially for beginners.
Visited early on a bright sunny day 25th December 2020 after a snowstorm the night before. Of course it was gorgeous and deserted but that was lovely I was only here to get some photos. I found very many down at the frozen rivers edge (caution, still thin in places with patches open water). Merry Christmas, happy holiday season to all and hope to see you all soon again in 2021
This place is very nice and the ladies at the front desk were awesome! We did get caught in a bit of rain, we were on the motorcycle, and we had to take shelter. They had a nice sheltered picnic area and nice bathrooms. We even bought a nice lined flannel shirt so the wife didn't get too cold on the bike. Nice hiking trails too!
This is one of the best nature locations I've ever been to. There are lots of really fun places to climb and the geology is just beautiful. There is a small amount of danger, depending on whether you decide to go, but if you're careful, this place is unforgettable and definitely worth a visit.
The perfect day trip location! My husband and I love hiking the trails and then going out to eat at one of the many delicious restaurants nearby! The trails are beginner friendly and you can easily do as much or little as you'd like. There's a great variety and many beautiful views and overlooks. A wonderful escape from the city for the day.
So much to check out on both sides of the river, you can rent canoes or kayaks, beautiful trails, boat tours, camping, and much more.
Love hanging out here with the family! Wear your hiking shoes,,,
Bathroom/shower clean. Hiking Paths and sites were we'll maintained. Staff were helpful and knowledgeable
An excellent place to hike!
Amazing geology. A bit busy with people, but well worth it.
This is a great place for a day outing. Hiking trails are not difficult and the pothole formations are amazing. We canoed about 7 miles down the river and had a blast.
Beautiful park. On the Minnesota side, the trail to see the potholes - like the Bottomless Pit - was fun and impressive. On the Wisconsin side, there are some longer hikes, especially the trails on the bluff along the St. Croix River. A really neat park.
Beautiful park which is completly manageable to hike with kids. In just a few hours you can snap some Instagram-able photos & get back to the car before the kids melt down.
Just an absolutely beautiful river way.
Beautiful! Definitely check out the kayak/canoe rental!
You can't go wrong with the well maintained nature trails. Beautiful year round.
Had a good time camping here May 3-5, 2019, clean facilities and decently hot water. Campsite was in great shape. Couple of easy hikes nearby along the river make it great for families. Everyone from the staff to the other campers were friendly.
Only downside is the campground can feel a little crowded when full because of how close together everyone is and depending on where your campsite is located you can hear cars from the interstate all night long.
All around the area seemed like a great place to hike and explore, the signs at each geographical anamoly were all very informative. But I fear this is not the season for exploration so even though it was a very pretty area. It wasn't exactly what I would call mind bending, so definitely bring a friend or loved with you to visit the falls to make it a more enjoyable experience. Also extremely wheelchair excessable. May or may not be decent fishing, plenty of sheer cliff faces that extend into the water, and deep pools that I could see a plethora of species inhabiting. Most likely a popular kayaking spot. Though I was indeed there off season.
We launched a party of kayaks and canoes from here. The facilities and landing were in good condition. Good information available as well.
Really cool walk. It is a cleanse from the city. Take a moment to get back into nature.
Beautiful State park with excellent walking trails and beautiful vistas. Parking was full by 9:00am and is not free. Need parking permit for state parks. Park office is near entrance. Many people were RC Crawling on the rocks, walking dogs and even climbing the rock walls with their climbing gear. Check it out.
A lot of people there. Great photo opportunities.
It was hot and humid but the boat trip hit the spot! Sites and narratives while on the boat were very interesting and informative. Enjoyed it very much and will probably will take the trip again.
Great place to launch a canoe. Beautiful rock walls
If you live in the Twin Cities east side Interstate Park is a great place to go for a family day out. The tree's pretty, the walking is easy, (Both my wife and I have knee issues, so take it easy and your be fine. You also have great views of the River, separating MN. &WI. Have Fun!
It's a really nice campground with a lot of open space so it's quiet. Really nice amenities as well.
Absolutely gorgeous park, on our Minnesota side of the beautiful St.Croix River
Great park and very cool pot holes!
My favorite state park for hiking. Love the glacial potholes!
So much of geological history. Trails are beautiful and provide a good exercise. Recommend to go there early in the morning as the park gets really busy after 10.
Clean park, plenty of parking. Picnic tables EVERYWHERE and grills with built in grates. All in good shape. Pavillions for reserving offer the option of shelter and have dri king fou tains and restrooms near by. Very friendly ranger. Also has camping and canoe/kayak rentals.
Beautiful place to visit with lots of trails and access to nearby Taylor's falls!
Parking 7 USD. Short trail. Toilets functional.
