Friendly staff and handled last minute reservation with no problem. Odd and difficult to identify your spaces. Seems they converted a day use to a camping. Check out 10am. Very quiet at night except a neighbor ran his generator all night. They do drive-by firewood for sale. Parking areas need major asphalt work. Very reasonable for a quick stay. Lots of people fishing and big group camping. Will stop again. No alcohol allowed?

Scorching trails 👣 ❤️‍🔥 Usually I don't mind but it's open, no trees to provide shade. Just come prepared. Was only able to walk 2 miles upward and called it a day.. afterwards, made my way to, "Swim Beach" ⛱️ *Very Attentive Lifeguards! The water 💧 felt AMAZING 👏 😍 Come without expectations. Bring a towel, water, and an extra pair of clothes! *Dogs are allowed as long as they're on a leash and Bike trails are available! *Maintain it clean, God bless 🙌 ❤️‍🔥🏜🔥💧

Great place to camp or to spend a day at the lake. Only downside was that there was hardly any shade, good thing we brought our own canopies. Bathrooms and showers available

Perfect Father's Day venue! Beautiful clear blue skies, safe, and very clean water. Arrive early for parking, as it does fill up on weekends after 10am, which is when it opens for swimming. Fair warning: be sure to watch the news for any wind in the forecast, because they will close the boat launching side if the waves are too turbulent! We had to spend part of the day at the lagoon region of the lake, which is the swimming side. It wasn't very cold, get it in it just once & it will feel warm after that! We preferred the kayaking/paddleboard side of the lake, as it was less crowded. The line to get in can be slow, as the park staff do inspect each paddleboard, with boating/kayaking/paddleboarding guests required to bring life jackets. I can definitely see our family coming back to paddleboard again, as it was very affordable. Maybe next time we will catch a movie on the water! 10/10. If you get lucky, there is a very sweet lady with her husband who are there to rent boards and life jackets as needed.

Nice size lake I've never gone during the week, and it's so much nicer. The weekends can get a bit nuts. You can bring the family to swim and bbq. I believe I paid 12 dollars for 1 vehicle.

Castaic Lake State Recreation Area is one of the largest and most spectacular state water reservoirs in California.This northern oasis features two lakes: Upper Lake which offers two launch ramps for boating with various waterways and coves for exploring and the Lower Lake that includes picnic areas, launch areas for Kayaks, float tubes and other non-gasoline boathing, and a swim beach.The park also known for hiking, horseback riding, wake boarding, jet skiing, and camping.

Awesome place to take your kids. The lifeguards limit what u can do in the lake but I guess it's for everyone's safety. I think the entrance is like $12 dollars. Great place to walk, multiple jungle gyms for kids and movie nights on certain nights

Beautiful park just 20 min from Sun Valley. Lovely beach, bike trail, playground, restrooms, dog friendly, picnic areas $12 entry fee. I was there on a Monday practically had the place to myself. Delighted to spot wading birds, finches and a few small watercraft. Next time, will check out the rentals.

Came here for a Mud-Girl event at it's a beautiful well maintained recreational area. There is a $10 parking charge and to launch specifically for paddle boarding it's $7 each paddle.

Great park and trails for hiking and family walks. Trails of different strength and abilities. The scenery is beautiful. Also in the park and around the lake there is a great path for scooters and toddler bikes. Be aware of some slopes if you are with kids who are learning to brake. Barbecue and fires allowed in the park. Not crowded. A beautiful place.

Beautiful lake and surrounding land. Great place to break the stay at home routine and take your family just for a drive or leisurely walk to get out of the house. Something about just watching the water is a mind soothing therapy for the whole family. There are very few people there during the week for those who want social distancing. Notice the empty parking lot.

Been going to this lake since I moved to LA 11 years ago. Great fishing for bass one of the best in Cali. They also stock trout. But the have camping rv swimming beach and great area for barbeque day picnic.

First camping trip here and we had a wonderful time. Love the view of the lake and seeing some wildlife. There is a short hike around the edge of the lake. We saw rabbits running around in the Bush and an Osprey. It is dry camping to be prepared, lucky for us they have a place to fill up for water and a dumping station. Our site was very roomy for our 39ft 5ft wheel and we love the semi-privatey. Overall a clean place to camp, would plan another trip there.

Gorgeous park with beautiful views. Lots of boating ramps, walking and biking trails. I've seen birthday parties and people walking their dogs, playground and picnic areas. $11 vehicle entrance fee. There is a season pass for local visitors.

A delightful place to stay. If you do not have a boat, or a boat, you can come and rent a boat. You will get great pleasure and energy from communication with nature. According to local legend, an ancient fish lives in the lake. The one who catches her can make three wishes that will be fulfilled immediately. Therefore, everyone goes here with fishing rods, or take fishing rods for hire. I wish you all a successful and enjoyable holiday!

Overall we had a good time for our first visit. The campsites didnt really have any shade but we managed, the swim area was nice and the lifeguards were nice and alert. They do have showers but only 2 were working, and its $1 for 3 minutes. They kept the showers clean and the restrooms. The price for camping wasn't to bad either, $20 a night and you have access to the whole lake, which was nice. We tried to go for a hike but it was hot so not recommended for summer, especially because there's no trees around for shade. The fishing dock was nice, although we didnt catch anything this time around. We didnt get bothered by any coyotes, just some squirrels and a rabbit or two.

First time we went to Castaic, facilities look well maintained. There is a boat rental, 24/7 fishing zone, camping zone and more if you go to the BIG Lake. We stayed at the bottom of the lake because we wanted to enjoy the beach swimming area. Unfortunately there was a quagga infestation that kept the beach closed to the public, I called to ask for reservation of a camping spot and I was told it's a 2 day minimum to reserve. There was plenty parking because it was not a holiday. The campground is not big enough. My guess is that, for the long weekends, this place will get a lot busier. Don't forget to call if you need to reserve, ask if the beach will be open or not, so you don't be surprised. In general the place is clean, bathrooms too. A lot better than Lake Casitas... like way better!! Definitely We will come back to enjoy the beach area. Thanks for reading my review.

The area was cool, lots of parking, people were nice and it was super cool seeing all the ducks!! We BBQ and had a great time. Excited to go back when in the area. It was clean too! Meaning we didn't see tons of trash flying around. Our family had fun!

First time to Castaic Lake. The area and the restrooms were clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I went fishing at a few different locations. Caught 1 small mouth bass and lost another on the upper lake over by the dam boat landing. It was a good experience. Will return for more fishing.

I enjoy the lake on weekends and weekday evenings. As long as it doesn't get too windy, the Lagoon is perfect for paddleboarding. It is usually pretty fast getting in. Takes a quick check of any water craft, payment and safety brief.

Omg i love this place. My family and I have been going there for years. Its such a fun place. Calm water and very clean. They have tables and they also have grills. If you want a good spot , you have to get there early because people love going there.

It is a nice lake to take the boat on with some spots to put a canopy up. They provide soap in restrooms (: but last time I went half of the restrooms were "out of order"

A nice spot for sailboating for sure. The weeds can get pretty thick in the shallow ends, but the water seems much cleaner than places like the reservoir in San Dimas.

I live a block away from Castaic Lake..I bring my newborn daughter here every morning and we walk the upper paths. The shade and breeze are so delicious, my goodness and the views are exquisite. It is very peaceful here, my wife and I even walk here at midnight with only the bats to keep us company. There are a lot of geese that make this their home and no wonder too because it's so beautiful. They rent row boats and paddle boards and they're open for swimming right now at designated locations with lifeguards. If you drive here, parking is currently $11.00. There are many picnic areas w running water and bbq grill, so it's a nice place to have a big family get together. We'll be sad when we move away from this place, but will enjoy it while we can. =)

Beautiful and so much space! Parking was $12, careful to not listen to your gps or it'll send you you the wrong way, go to the North Lake entrance! There's so much to do and with all that space there isn't a hard time keeping social distance!! Playgrounds, BBQ areas, picnic tables, boat rentals, bike paths, etc etc!

5 stars is big,but this place is exceptional..bathrooms clean,and sanitized. Alot of shaded areas in grass,sand and dirt....trees everywhere,with strict lifeguards on duty nonstop. Trying for multiple pictures on this,so I hope I get enough to help with potential visitors...Handicap accessible, $$$ 12.00 per car,for the day .Till 6pm. Opens at 7-8...lifeguards check beach before opening to swim at 1030

Great place to come with the family for a picnic, camping, fishing or just some R&R. 1 STAR deduction was due to the no swimming policy anywhere on the main lake. Other than that it's a great local option if you are ok interested in spending time at a lake!

Had an amazing time with a few close relatives on the boat.. Amazingly hot day but was absolutely worth the sun burn 😆🔥 Most awesome thing was we were able to launch from the west ramp and camped out at the tables and BBQ up some meat.. It was safe people social distancing and enjoying their day as well .. We fished and didn't catch anything this time .. But the experience of just chilling out and having g a piece of mind.. Away from it all.. If your still reading this post get up grab your outdoor gear and go have some fun..

Great local lake for a day of fishing/boating (rentals available) on the upper lake or swimming/kayaking in the lower lake. Parking is $11 and grants access to multiple parking lots for the day. Good place to bring a picnic. Please remember to keep our natural areas clean.

We had a blast. The staff was real nice. They need to keep all there showers running thow... I was disappointed to see that on the holiday We came on was Labor day and the pole didnt even have a American Flagg on it to me that is a disgrace to are country! But other than that it was fantastic.

I love the beach swim area at castaic. There's plenty of lifeguards and kids can go swimming and you can also set up a little picnic/ barbecue area. Not too far away from the beach area itself

Beautiful lake for daytime grilling with multiple benches permanent grill stations that look nice and good placement. I can't say the same for the campgrounds unfortunately. All the tables and campfire grills were not even close to level which is annoying for boiling or cooking. The bright street lights kill the ambiance a bit Otherwise good spot to spend the night. Will have neighbors around about 25-30 feet in between each camp spot.

I went camping for one night at spot 59 in Castaic Lake's Lagoon area, so I would reccomend brining some think clothes for the night and a shovel (just in case) for making a fireplace - since there is not an actual fireplace. There are several bike and hiking trails and it is such a beautiful scenery.

A nice destination only a short drive away. If you want to enjoy hiking, boating, warm weather and not too many people this is peaceful during midweek. Weekends and holidays there's more activity. Mountainous terrain, typical SoCal water recreation. It's warmer and dryer than normal this time of year, which makes it even more enjoyable. Good for a family trip if you want to social distance, and want to avoid the noisy and crowded areas like Six Flags or Disneyland.

Quiet, placid lake to take the kids kayaking in. (Fishing, hiking, motorboating available as well) Shaded, cool banks and parking area. Clean bathrooms. Particularly helpful staff- went out of their way to help us when our car battery died. Check the weather before heading out, as it can reach extremes.

Nice but was really crowded. Had "boat cinema" in the evening. That was pretty awesome. They blew up an inflatable movie screen and have several large inflable boats so you actually sit on the water to watch the movie. Sundays only I think. They also had paddle boats and plenty of lifeguards for the people swimming. Also have 2 camping areas.

Lots of wide open spaces. It's nice to see the water levels back up. The swimming portion of the lake is really small. Really small. It would be nice to open up more of the lake and even put in a raft in the middle. But the beach is nice and the fire pits very cool. Clean and safe.

It is a hidden gem. All levels of recreation, from a simple park experience, to walking jogging, to lake activities! There are playparks for kids as well! The upper lake is huge and they offer a variety of lake activities. The Jr. lifeguard program is awesome for kids 10 and up. Totally worth a trip.

Nice, relax and serene. Away from city life yet i walked there from the Pilot truck stop. I met visitors and staff whom all participated in my wonderful outing away from my Rig. Walking through the hills was concerning as the brushes were so dried and would all burn so fast and also there was so much trash, i hate that when folks have total disrespect for parks and nature so 4/5.

If you plan to swim at the camping ground wear swim shoes in the water. A lot of people leave fish hooks and there's broken glass. I love Castaic lake but humans have left their trash and destroy nature with no second thought. There needs to be a clean up crew to come through and take better care of it.

Took our family kaysks- Thing One and Thing Two- on their inaugural journey here. Breathtaking views, quiet, no crowds. We did not watch the weather carefully, so were quite hot and curtailed our time on the lake in favor of shaded benches. We had a minor car mishap, and the staff (entry booth, lifeguards) were so helpful in sorting us out.

We came to the night float fishing. We brought 2 of our own 2 person rafts. We launched at the lower lake a little after 6 pm. The weather was perfect slight breeze and calm waters. We fished a little but mostly just floated around talking looking at the stars and just having fun. We had a blast and will definitely be back.

Great lake for fishing and water skiing with several well spread out boat ramps. Very nice people when you are checking your boat in. Beautiful hills surrounding the lake. Only 5 minutes from the 5 freeway. My stepson caught this small large-mouth bass near the shore with a nightcrawler.

It was overcast so it was nice. Went for a family reunion. There was even a wedding there. Nice to meet up with the family there. But it would be nice to spend the day with anyone, friends, family etc. No swimming but fishing and you can take your boat out.

This place is beautiful! There is plenty of grassy areas, playgrounds, picnic tables, bbq grills, water fountains. The whole place is clean and well kept. You can have a picnic, birthday party, take the kids to the playground, stroll on the edge of the lake, read a book on the sandy shore, hike, walk, go fishing, camping, and enjoy many water sports. It's a great place to get away and enjoy a beautiful day at the lake.

Awesome awesome awesome! We went here to rent the powered boats. This is my second visit with family because I went out here a few weeks before and it was so much fun! The staff is super friendly and the prices are so affordable. The lake is easy to get to, off the freeway, and it's only about an hour and change away from Los Angeles on a good day. If you're driving from the LA area, I suggest leaving around 10:30a latest, to get a boat rental, otherwise leave about 9a comfortably to get breakfast and coffee or whatever. Once you're there, entrance is $11 and there's plenty of parking. Sheriff's Department is on site and there is a little playground for the kids. I went out here to rent a boat but people come out with their own suped-up speed boats. Maybe I'll invest in one later but if you take a rental out, go through all the coves, take pictures/video, drop anchor, eat lunch on the water...it takes about two hours to go from shore to the opposite end of the lake and back. So, the two hour minimum is perfect timing. If you go fishing whilst on the boat, count on three hours. I love this place. I highly suggest it for couples going on dates or fun with family. A few miles up there's Pyramid Lake. There, you can rent pontoons for larger groups. Take sunscreen and have fun!

I only gave it a 3 Star rating because for fishing the speed boats drive too close to shore so it Scares the fish. we did catch a 2 pound bass that day And we did see several jumping out of the water which was nice. That is until we had several boat speed by our area. So if you like Jet,speed boats and Skiing then you'll have A-blast but for fishing I would imagine it depends on what day you go.

Come early, I mean 5:30am if you wanted to enjoy the park. Clean water and many coves for fishermen. Check weather is a must if you planned to rent or launch a boat. Call for price. My family and I really enjoyed spending a whole day on the water. There are restrooms in the lake, you don't have to return to shore.

I live here so I have probably a different experience than most who visit. This is a great park and pretty well maintained. There are walking trails and playparks, a sandy beach in the summer, and camping. Overall the park is nice. The gate staff is a little... Let's say uninformed, but the staff inside is great. They have really cool programs in the summer. I think their biggest downfall is their website is awful and it's hard to know what is going on.

While on a short vacation, my family decided on Castaic Lake. There is a parking fee. It was steeper than what I would normally pay to park at the Oroville Lake in Northern California. Despite the price, the lake and park was very clean and had plenty of trees for shade and tables for eating. I spent the day kayaking and enjoying family time. Highly recommended for a great family location to spend the day.

Castaic Lake Park is super convenient for those who live in the area. However 11 bucks for parking to traverse a park that was littered with debris ranging from party evidence to natural occurrences was a little outrageous. The last 45 minutes of our stay was trying to trek through an area riddled with holes (hopefully rabbit or gopher holes) and a series of potentially fire ant mounds. It made my paranoia kick into overdrive. But, maybe i had a harder time because i am a city boy. Long story short, clean up so city folk can enjoy lol.

Great views and plenty of space to fish either on shore or in a boat. Signage directing you where to go could use some improvement, but as long as you pay attention to the provided map you should be fine. The sections of road marked with a "dip" sign mean buissnes, slow down for these sections.

This is the time of year to go. Not at all crowded and still beautiful and alive. Attended a birthday party bar-b-que. Fun. Some morning wind that calmed in the afternoon. The majestic wall that keeps Lake Castaic from flowing into Castaic Lagoon is impressive. Terrifying! in a "what if" sort of way. The park is kept clean right down to the restrooms. Helpful!

Great Lake! The water isn't very high during the summer heat (which should be expected) all in all would recommend a family trip to Castaic Lake. Camping is really fun at the Lake but watch out for the raccoons! Fishing is a little on the slow side but there are fishes in the water you just have to know where to find them. I recommend a digital bobber to locate the fish 'hot spot's'.

When ever I picture myself happy and free I picture this lake. The reason behind that is because all my childhood my family and I would always come here at summer time to eat, relax, and my favorite part swim. Like there's no better feeling than floating on the water and looking straight up at the beautiful blue sky and for those brief seconds you just forget about all your problem and focus only on staying still. But don't get me wrong the lake isn't always great like if many people go you might have trouble looking for parking on the lower section then you would have to go up the hill and look for parking. Then we have the trip going down the hill with all the stuff you brought and trying your brlest the to fall. This will only be an issue for you if your like my family that go down the dirt when yes there's a road you can take to get down but it's longer that way. When your finally down there and set up it would have been worth it because now you get to lay back and relax or swim until your arms can't take it no more. Also don't worry about drowning because the lifeguards here are very aware and friendly to anyone.

Great lake for fishing! Some of the world's biggest bass has been caught at Castaic Lake. The campsites, however, are mediocre. They are all right next to each other and havr little to no shade. There is a nice view of the lake from the campsites along the edge and an easy trek down to the water's edge.

Had a great time with family however there was a overly policing lifeguard in the water. Sorry but people especially kids splash in water. Even went so far as to make a kid prove he could swim by actually showing him. People were pretty shocked. Also had a sheriff come out for some people that had alcohol. Yes alcohol isn't allowed but I'm sure people are not aware of that. They were doing their job but some people might not be aware of rules...with the heat comes new people that are experiencing this lake for the first time. Everyone else seemed too have fun in the sun. Recommend bringing flushable wipes if people come out.

Its beautiful, both lakes. There is also 24hr fishing at the lower lagoon. Where I was fishing with aggressive skunks trying to punk me for my mackerel bait. And a surprised to run in to me at 3am by myself mountain lion. Who decided, after we startled each other, to lay down about 15-20ft away. Half his body laying in the water just relaxing. While I on the other hand was trying to figure out an escape route as the lion was lying in front of the only way back up to my camp. I lobbed rocks in his direction til he leaped about 10ft straight up into some bushes, so silent was the lion that I didn't hear him land. Castaic is very active with wildlife that likes to interact with humans. I was followed 3 nights n a row by aggressive skunks, and a sneaky fox. Oh and 2 coyotes. Oh a possum and skunk got into it in a tree above our tent. The possum got tossed out the tree and bounced off the top of our tent onto out hammock then onto our table, where it knocked over everything. Now if there were any fish in the lakes it would've had 5 stars. I was there 6 days, not a even a nibble!!!

Castaics lower lagoon is Calm and relaxing. Great for Kayaking and fishing in a Calm Environment. Bathrooms have running water and toylets. Also there is a lifeguard in his boat while you are on the water. Kind of Expensive for eleven dollars to park. And seven dollars to launch your Kayak. Fun day for Kayaking.

I live nearby. The grassy, beach, picnic area is nice, but that water is NOT THE LAKE. It is a forebay (they call the Lagoon) downstream from the huge dam of the State Water Project. The actual lake, is further up, has steep sides, no grass, no picnic area, but boat ramps on both ends of the dam. You need a powerboat. Skiing, bass fishing. Special events are often held around the Lagoon, which has an RV campground, parking, and boat launch (no gasoline engines on the lagoon). It gets very windy sometimes, with white caps.

Recent rains have made it beautiful once again. It's a shame that one lifeguard's poor attitude and constant nagging and rude comments while hooking up to and towing our boat made such an impact with us. It was because we called our friend at the dock to request help for our overheated boat. He informed the lifeguard guys on duty and they came to our rescue. They stopped 100yards away and sat there for a few minutes. After a while watching us sitting there and occasionally waving at them, the voice on the PA said "we see you ". We patiently waited and enjoyed the beautiful morning on the water. As soon as they decided to get closer the rude lifeguard started in with "Why didn't you call us? You should have called the number on the blue sheet of paper...." he went on and on about the number we should have called. The other guy was great. He was professional and handled the boat well. The guy who did nothing but berate us just stared at his phone the rest of the time as if he was watching YouTube or something. There were only two of us on the boat and we expressed our gratitude. It was met with nothing but negativity and nagging in an attempt to make us feel stupid for not calling this guy directly. We knew five other boaters on the lake at that time. It felt natural to call one of them. It was the only negative experience of the day. It made us wonder how this guy could be so miserable working on such a beautiful lake. The lake deserves 5 stars. Unfortunately, this lake employee inflicted himself on us. Hopefully we just caught him on a bad day.
