Reviews of Petit Jean State Park
Jeremy Janus
Petit Jean State Park has been one of my favorite wilderness experiences in Arkansas! We stayed at the campground in the park which was extremely clean, had great facilities, and was absolutely beautiful. It made getting up and exploring that much easier every single day. My two favorite parts of the part were the Petit Jean Overlook and Gravesite, and the Cedar Falls Trail. The Petit Jean Overlook is amazing to experience at different times of the day with the lights and shadows changing constantly and is amazing to catch a sunrise if you can! The Cedar Falls are absolutely marvelous and if you can make the trek down and back they are completely worth it! This area is amazing and should definitely be on your Arkansas list if you are visiting the area!

Absolutely beautiful! Almost didn't stop here on our trip but so glad we did. Lots of waterfalls, creeks/water, rock formations, and caves throughout the park. Large visitors center. Lots of great trails of varying difficulty and a handful of overlooks right off the road. Didn't camp here but they also have plenty of camping areas from what I saw!

Absolutely beautiful. Peaceful. This STATE park is better than some National Parks. The staff and rangers have all been super friendly and helpful. The hikes have a variety of easy, moderate, strenuous levels. Beautiful hikes. Bear Cave, Rock House, Turtle Rocks, Cedar Falls. The over looks are great and provide ADA Access.
The smaller cabin is perfect for my 6 year old, wife and myself. With everything you need to cook, make a fire, etc.
We will return and do Canyon Trail, Seven Hollows, and hopefully the Boy Scout Trails.

What an absolute gem of a state park! clearly well cared for and all the hikes we did were exciting. Trekking poles were very helpful. The cedar falls hike was difficult, but not impossible, and the waterfall was spectacular. We also did thr bear cave & rock house cave. Bear Cave was very cool - great little hike for kids, especially if going from the parking lot. Rock House Cave was also very cool - the turtle rocks were an extremely neat feature! We tent camped. The sites were nicely sized and distanced. The sites could perhaps be maintained a little better. Our pit had clearly not been cleaned out from last season and the bugs were laying it on a little heavy, even in the bathhouse. Overall a very enjoyable weekend!

Amazing Place!! We hiked cedar falls trail and to a few others. Cedar falls alone was worth it all!! A workout but well worth it!! Wear non slip hiking shoes. The path and rocks are wet along the trail in a couple of areas. Also, don't forget drinking water.
Verlis Guinn
One of the best Arkansas State Parks. Several scenic overlooks which is what we love. Beautiful Visitors Center. I hear it has great hiking trails neither of us are able to hike, so just going on what we hear about it. Nice camping areas and very nice cabins to rent. I believe it's Governor Hutchinson's favorite state park I believe I heard that right. Haha! Very nice worth your time
I Hasan
It a beautiful park. I hike Bear Cave and Cedar Falls. They are marked as strenuous but aren't hard at all. The only downside was that the waterfall was dry and pretty much non-existent. We stayed at the group camp site and it was perfect for our needs and a perfect location.
Michael Scott
Just beautiful 😍. Breathtaking waterfall you can walk right up to. Elaborate boardwalk, wheelchair friendly overlook, sheer drop offs 🫣. Fantastic hiking 🥾
Great restaurant, cute cabins. Just all around the best state park I have ever been to!🥳 …
Deborah Baker
Beautiful well maintained state park. The campground is very nice and spacious with some lakefront sites. Most sites are far apart and not sitting on top of each other. The Cedar Falls trail was great and the falls were breathtaking. It had rained a lot while we were there so the falls were roaring. I definitely recommend visiting this park and this area of Arkansas.
Jaja C
Free state park with many beautiful overlooks and trails. I believe all the trails can be done in 2 days or so We went only for a day trip but enjoyed Cedar Falls trail, Rock Cave, and Bear Cave trails. Rock Cave is the trail where you can view the Turtle rocks and Indigenous cave paintings.
The view at Mather Lodge is a must see and so gorgeous! It's also right next to Cedar Falls trail which is a must go for those who are able to hike for about 1 hours each way to the waterfall! Absolutely gorgeous hike and the creek water is very cool. Bring hiking or running shoes. We brought lunch to enjoy outside in the seating area at Mather Lodge once we finished the trail. There are clean bathrooms you can use at Mather Lodge following your hike.

My 12 y/o daughter and I visit twice a year, springtime to see the trees budding and flowers bloom, and in autumn to see the plethora of colorful leaves. We’ve been coming here for at least 8 years now.
We always take the Cedar Falls trail. We pack a small lunch and plenty of water and eat once we get to the falls.
The hike down isn’t too troublesome, it’s the hike back up that can be a little strenuous.
Susan Stanford
The most beautiful and peaceful State Park. Petit Jean State Park Lodge is so beautiful. Beautiful views and delicious food. Amazing staff. Put Petit Jean State Park on your summer vacation plans. You will love it! Great hiking trails.Cedar Falls is beautiful. The waterfall and walking trails are so worth the trip. Fur baby friendly.
Jeremy Smith
Really enjoyed visiting the park with my family. Nice options for hiking and some really interesting sites to see. The kids had fun climbing on the Turtle Rocks and exploring Rock House Cave.
Definitely recommend and look forward to returning.
Tino Escareno
Such an outstanding beautiful park. I went right after a good rain so the falls were flowing. I'm definitely coming back with my kiddo and family. This is an amazing place to camp, eat, and hike 100%.
thomas tweedel
My favorite park in Arkansas. It's got great hikes, views, the largest waterfall in the state, and more. A great place to relax or take the family. Don't miss the graveside overlook (separate area) for outstanding views of the Arkansas River and surrounding area.
CBC Louisiana
We stayed in one of the cabins which was clean and functional. A little dated. We hiked several trails which were nicely marked. It was extremely hot while we were there but thankfully most of the trails were well shaded in the woods. Only disappointment was that Cedar Falls was barely a trickle because of lack of rain. We will have to come back when there are more streams flowing throughout the park.
Judy Sharp
We visited Petit Jean Mountain for a quiet getaway and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in a cabin (#25) and it was very cozy. We enjoyed sitting on the porch swing and listening to nature. Each night we enjoyed a fire in the fireplace. Our cabin had a mini fridge and microwave and a full size coffee maker as well as a TV. The park was absolutely stunning - literally breathtaking - with the beautiful fall colors. If you're looking for a nice quiet getaway with some of the most beautiful scenery you'll ever see, Petit Jean Mountain is your place!
Laurie Carlson
One of the most wonderful, fantastic beautiful mountain trail and waterfall experience we have EVER HAD! Cabins are from the 30s but super well stocked equipped and kept up. Staff and rangers and programs superb! Go!!!
Christine B
One of the prettiest state parks I have ever been to. All of the hiking is fantastic! You will need several days or multiple trips to see everything they offer.
Teresa VanRhee
A must see park if you're in the area. Spent all day here and loved everything. Visitor center has a cute gift shop and bathrooms are great as well. Variety of hikes and lots of scenic overlooks
Hannah White
Had an amazing hike to Cedar Falls! It was beautiful! 1 mile there 1 mile back. Easy hike to such an amazing waterfall! I had no idea Petit Jean had a Waterfall!!! The fresh fudge was the best fudge ever and the customer service was so friendly! Definitely going back!
Sharon Nichols
We hiked the Cedar Falls Trail for the first time in several years. It was very well marked and easy to follow. You definitely have to go down and back up some rocky areas, but children were making the hike with no trouble. It took us 2 hours for the round trip and that included stopping to take lots of pictures. We stayed at the falls close to 30 minutes. Beautiful!
Patti Harris
Very beautiful and peaceful place. Did a weekend getaway and stayed in the lodge. Rooms were very cozy and clean . Meals in the restaurant were excellent and the views from the dIning area were spectacular. Plenty of hiking and things to do.
Bobbie Jo C
I've not been here in years. Great place to spend a day or two exploring either solo or with family. Camp grounds were nice, they have a couple swimming pools to help cool off after a long hike. Definitely will be back!
Jason Oneal
Awesome Park. If you can handle the miles, you could legitimately hit most of the trails in 2 days. We did the boy scout trail, seven hollows trail and rock house in one day. I highly recommend. The boy scout will have some great ridge views then you descend down an old road that goes through woods. great trees and fairly easy. You can take this direct to seven hollows which will take you through some great rock formations but you will have a bit of up and down.
Ward Martaindale
This park is real nice. We camped in section C in a travel trailer. Be sure and have extra water hose because the water connections are at the front instead of in the typical position adjacent to electrical box. Excellent hiking trails from easy to challenging. Bathhouses are clean.
shannon black
One of my favorite parks in the area! Always great to bike through the park and the hiking trails are awesome. This past weekend my wife and I stayed in a cabin and had a wonderful time. The lodge/restaurant was a great option. We also got to enjoy the park guides as they led tours on many of the trails.
Hanna Hollek
Second time coming. The first time we came, our hiking was limited due to an injury. However there are many hiking opportunities for all skill levels which allowed for me to do quite a bit of mild, yet rewarding, hiking. The overlook of cedar creek falls was a stand out. Other honorable mentions was the bear cave trail as well as the rock house cave. It was amazing getting to experience the writing on the cave walls from years ago. The trail had notable spots where it showed and explained how water over time creates cool rock formations. Our most recent visit allowed for a bit more hiking, but we had time restraints. We chose for the Cedar Creek Falls trail to see the bottom of the falls which were flowing a lot more than the last visit. We enjoyed the newly built visitors center and read some history and nature facts. They offer fun activities for the summer which we did not get to experience. However since we were there for thanksgiving, the park rangers had put on events for people of all ages to watch, play, and learn about. We got to eat a fantastic meal at the lodge. Our only concern was the reviews of construction starting early in the morning at one of the campsites. We did not experience that though since it was thanksgiving morning and the workers likely had the day off. We will be back!
Julie
Camped for several days in May. The weather was perfect. RV lots are shaded. There are paved walking/biking areas to help navigate the park easily. The bathrooms and visitor center are A+
Jon Smithers
Gorgeous beyond words. I am a BIG fan of not overdoing it with the safety railings and warning signs - this park does it perfectly. Yes, idiots are going to fall off cliffs and die. That doesn't mean you should wall off every natural place and obscure views with warning signs.
This place is wonderful, the people are extremely friendly and helpful (especially the young woman working at the visitors center this past week - she was awesome!) And the park is absolutely gorgeous. Three thumbs up. I even managed to find some red hand prints off on an overgrown, seemingly forgotten trail.
bondgirl42
As always, Petit Jean didn’t disappoint. We hiked the Cedar Falls Trail, as did a lot of others. The falls was running pretty heavy which makes for a beautiful view. We had lunch first at the lodge restaurant. Split a burger and it was very good. We love this park—drove over from where we were staying since all the campsites were booked.
Cristina Davis
What a jewel! Beautiful views, lots of history, well marked trails long and short. Mather Lodge is Gorgeous! Next time we are renting a cabin and staying longer.
Gary Godard
Hiked the Boyscout Trail + Seven Hollows. It was a very enjoyable trip. Breakfast at the restaurant was good, however starting breakfast a 8am put us getting started later than we anticipated. Everything published showed 7am including the printouts we received. Diner was also not that good and the 2nd night we went to town for diner.

Hoof It for Heifer takes place the first Saturday in April. It's a 20K along the Boy Scouts of America Trail that raises money for Heifer USA. The trail has stunning views of Cedar Falls and features a variety of beautiful rock formations from the Turtle Rocks to towering bluffs and a natural bridge. There are shorter, easier trails at the park, too! It's gorgeous all year!
Samantha Halderson
One of my very favorite places to go to see caves waterfalls arches and the best mountain view and bluffs.easy to hard hikes but so worth to come check it out.great place for families.
Brandy Stewart
Beautiful trails, really cool giant rock cave and well kept facilities. We visited in August and weather was nice, but Cedar Falls was just a small stream.
Karissa Smith
This hike is TOUGH. And btw you can’t swim in the waterfall pool but you can wade in, and stand under the falls which was honestly a magical experience. Hard hike in and out but so so worth it.
Some parts of the path are flat and dirt, but most of it is assembled into stone steps, tree roots, and navigating over piles of boulders. From setting foot down the path to collapsing back into our cars was about 4 hours.
Standing under a 10,000 year old waterfall that was an integral part of indigenous culture for medicinal and ritual purposes… just the oldness of the earth and how different the rock textures all were, and even the moss was slightly different from one spot to another depending on how much water beat down on it… several moments of stunned silence were had while marveling at the mist of the falls, watching the rainbows dancing on the slick black rock.
Shelia C
So many trails to hike. This is just a wonderful park to go to if you live nature. They have short trails and long trails. So much fun. They even have a car museum up here. So cool!
Ellie Lindelow
The camp grounds were nice. Some renovations done, some not. Great hot water for showers. The area is for beginner hikes and day trips. Very easy access and short trails.
Heather Toups
We stayed at Mather Lodge. I recommend a cabin. The lodge rooms are small. The staff was overall nice. The parking on the weekend was horrible. There is no set parking for the lodge guests. That is inexcusable. The guest should have parking if they stay at the lodge. The cabins have set parking. The overall park was beatiful. The hikes were gorgeous 😍.
Brenda George
This place is always a pleasure to see in the fall of the year colors are Gorgeous spring Flowers blooming is also Beautiful redbuds and dogwood trees… We had dinner @ Mathers Lodge what a view ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Service was on point they were very busy but everything was Perfect and fresh …..Cedar Falls was not flowing today first time ever I’ve been going here 20 + years
Christel Lauderdale
Amazing park- great hiking! Bear caves and turtle rocks are fantastic! The Mather Lodge has a great little restaurant. Good burgers! Not a big selection of things to buy if you forgot anything but it is secluded and you are in nature!
Elizabeth Phipps
BEAUTIFUL hike. Not so technical that my 7 yo with a lower limb difference couldn't navigate! (He did need a little help though.) We can't wait to go back!!
Restrooms at the trailhead only, but they were very clean!
Richard Torrez-Garcia
My girlfriend and I loved it! The hike was very easy (if you are an avid hiker it's an easy level hike) with great scenery! I'll attach a few pictures of the waterfall and the area. We absolutely enjoyed it as we love to travel and hike in different states. This one did not disappoint. It is marked for your convenience but be wary - some of the markers might be a little hidden or faded. Give it a go and also something that should be noted from the pictures - the waterfall in these pictures make it look small but I assure you that it's not. I believe it's a 90 foot waterfall. Either way it's bigger than it looks and you'll love it!
Bridget Moragne
Absolutely beautiful. I love this place there is so much to do and see. Here's a few photos to show you some of the beauty waiting for you.

When the pandemic hit and we all had to stay home for awhile, some of us adventurous people needed something to do… something to look forward to. And there enters the idea for a family reunion. We are a largish bunch, scattered all over the US. The planning began in the spring of 2020 and Petit Jean State Park became the venue.
Last week that plan became a reality. And what a beautiful thing it was.
We stayed in Cabin 15, a small but fully functional duplex unit (has connected doors which was PERFECT since my cousins were next door. One bedroom has a queen bed and a twin. The sofa in the living area worked well for my 6’2” tall 16 year old son.
There are many trails to explore with various levels of difficulty. We didn’t get to see all of the trails so that just gives us a reason to go back. We did the Cedar Falls overlook (boardwalk, handicap accessible) Bear Cave Trail (easy to drive to, more fun and beautiful to walk it though) and Rock House Cave (I mean.. wow!)
We did NOT do the difficult trail to the bottom of Cedar Falls only because it had not rained lately and the falls were just a bare drip. And yet, another reason to go back to the park. My family has already decided to go back and those who couldn’t make it (stupid Covid) are all jealous.
Mather Lodge has a stunningly beautiful restaurant with high ceilings and wall to wall windows. Go for a nice meal (I recommend the roast beef and potatoes) or watch a rain storm roll in from the covered breezeway. Relax on the deck on a clear night to see so many stars and total quiet (unless you are us, in a large group having a wine tasting, then by all means, come join us!)
A word of caution for those with pets and small children. There are open bluffs and deep crevices that are not fenced in parts of the cabin areas. Leash the pets, and hold onto to the kids. Or have them run and play in the front of the cabins.
A HUGE thank you to the lodge management for looking for, and finally finding a pair of work boots and a back brace we left behind!
Overall.. FIVE STARS. Let those kids miss school and give them a science and history lesson they probably won’t be taught in the books.
I cannot wait to come back!
Steve Phipps
First time visiting. Our family had a great time hiking. Facilities are well maintained. Definitely plan to go back.
Hannah Pevarnik
Not only is this state park an incredible spot for hiking, but it also served beautifully for our engagement photos! If you haven't been up to the lodge or on one of the many trails, definitely check Petit Jean out!
Natasha Coxsey
The park itself was clean and maintained however around midnight we had someone (an actual person) try to steal our cooler and or the contents inside of it. Make sure you put up your valuables. After hiking waterfall trails north of this area this waterfall and trails were a bit of a let down. Some of the restrooms are updated and some were not, in the older restrooms the shower doesn't drain well. Unfortunately due to the drought the waterfall was not flowing well but it is a beautiful view.
Matthew Castillo
They have something for all, and lots of it. They have hotel rooms, cabins, rv hookups, camping, even yurts!! There is dining, barbecue spots, fishing, pools, and boat rentals. Not to mention the beautiful trails and scenery...if you've never been, it's worth the trip!
Boris Simeonov
A compact outdoor experience with good views, good food at the lodge, and interesting history. I would not go back more than once per season as all the hiking trails and historical/educational experiences can all be had within just a couple of days. Still, it is a beautiful spot.
Tarra Gray
We stayed at the Petit Jean State Park Campground for one week and the campground is an awesome area. There is tons of room between campsites and plenty of walking space and great views down by Bailey Lake. We paid about $25 per night and had water and electric hook ups. There is a very easily accessible dump station that we used on our way out. The only complaint we have is the shower house, while very clean doesn’t have a great set up for changing back into your clean clothes without being in everyone’s view. Petit Jean State Park features an abundance of amazing trails and overlooks. We went on the following trails: Bear Cave Trail, Rock House Cave Trail and Cedar Falls Trail. We stopped at the following overlooks: Stout’s Point, M.A. Richter Overlook, CCC Overlook, Cedar Falls Overlook and Palisades Overlook. All were amazing overlooks and hikes.
Alicia Lessard
Cool place to stop and see. Looks like lots of different things to do if you camp there. Very clean.
Katherine Rasmussen
Beautiful rustic lodge, CC Corp era buildings. You can camp, RV, stay in a cabin or yurt or the lodge. Trails, picnic area, native american relics. A lake to boat, fish, or view water fowl. The new visitor center has a museum like exhibit about the history. Down the road are local gift shops, an outpost ( w/homemade fudge), petting zoo, Ar car museum. Day trip or overnight trips. Just breathtakingly beautiful.
Tim Nelson
Always a great time on the Mountain.
This weekend was Hot Air Balloon Event tied in with Petit Jean Farmer's Market.
3 day event. Lots of fun, booths, crafts, food, family fun.
Gorgeous flight off the mountain each morning with the Balloons.
Stacy McMahan
Our second time to this enchanting park - the 1st State Park in Arkansas. The scenery was breathtaking! I am hooked.
Lani Eppinette
Absolutely worth the drive! We come from Huntsville Texas and this was our final stop on our vacation.
Absolutely beautiful. The views on the trails are breathtaking. Affordable camping and peaceful. Wonderful clean showers with HOT water! We fully enjoyed those after several nights of camping elsewhere lol.
This place is a MUST see!
There was also a little coffee shop with delicious coffee, breakfast, and souvenirs!
Tina Weindel
A friend told me about Petit Jean Park in 2005. My only regret coming here today is waiting this many years to drive the 4 hours to the park. What an amazing place. We hikes the Cedar Falls Trail. The weather was perfect today and the fall colors are showing in the trees. Perfect place for all ages.
Nikita
I rarely give five stars but this one is well deserved. A diamond in the rough. PLEASE RESPECT THE AREA. Keep Arkansas beautiful!!! ✨🔍🌱 …
Wayne Granger
This is a great park that features many beautiful hiking trails, lookouts, campgrounds and a small lake.
There are trails for all skill levels. The RV campsites that I saw had full hookups which is a plus, and most were pull through.
Rylee Jones
Amazing experience as it's my 3rd time back. Hurry in for the fall experience before it's gone this year! Wonderful park!!
Jessie Barron
We stayed in cabin 1, which was VERY nice (though there were plenty of areas where cleaning was sub-par, and the bedroom ceiling fan needs some maintenance). We stayed from for 3 nights and grilled our food on the back patio (be sure to bring bug spray, there were a lot of wasps), and while we considered trying the lodge, the menu just wasn't that appealing to us.
We walked most of the trails (Rock house, bear cave, CCC, Cedar creek, and the canyon trail), and after having seen how dried up the waterfall was, we decided it was best to wait until next time, and plan to go after some rain.
We also stopped by the small Amish goods store and the automobile museum, and while I won't post pictures of everything, we enjoyed our time there as well.
Over all DEFINITELY worth the money and time, and we'll definitely be back.
Cheryl Floyd
Stayed in duplex cabin overlooking a majestic vista. Trail to rock-house cave was easy and the cave itself had Indian painting. Winthrop Rockefeller trail connecting to the Cedar Creek Trail are more moderate in difficulty. Many picturesque moments. More small caves with Indian art on the walls! Lovely water features throughout.
Christopher Turner (Topher)
This is a beautiful place (cave hideout) and much bigger than you'd think haha it's a short walk but very uneven so you'll need to watch your footing. Wish I could camp overnight in there! 😂 …
Sarah Dixon
Absolutely Incredible. Restaurant os delicious and the park has so many natural wonders to explore.
DocuLab 3D
I came for the cave art. I found an unexpected adventure. Waterfalls, scenic vantages, unique geological formations; Plenty to do and see. The locals are friendly.
Marie Walsh
Loved it! So much fun and the weather was perfect. Check out the Amish store for gifts to take home. We had a lovely time.

Beautiful hikes, a must see in Arkansas. Camp Mitchell is a great places to visit also.
Sarah Lou
One of my absolute favorite state parks in Arkansas. It is only a 45ish min drive from Little Rock. There is so much to do there. Cedar falls of course being the main attraction along with spectacular sunrise and sunset viewing spits. The boyscout trail is the one we ventured on in this outing. The kiddos loved it. Even though a tad chilly at the east lookout. Can't wait to go back. Each sason has something unique to offer.
James Mullen
Cave trail was an easy walk. Cedar creek trail was a little more difficult but still manageable.
The photos are of Bailey Lake.
Pam Storment
We didnt get to see everything we wanted before it got dark. Sunset on the overlook/gravesite area was amazing. It's a beautiful park. We cant wait to go back
James Schupp
Awesome place ...didn't have enough time today but am coming back for the trails
Samantha Welch - Welch Photography
Truly one of my favorite places in Arkansas to photograph couples and just enjoy the beauty of Arkansas!
Jeffrey LeBaron
What an amazing, beautiful park. Lovely hiking trails, waterfalls, and sites to see and experience!
ez0950
An absolutely beautiful place. Park staff are very friendly. Wonderful overlooks and trails. Sadly the falls were not running when we were there. Will return after some rain to see that.
dakota rushing
Beautiful park and cabin area. Amazing mountain view all around
Mirna Romero
I love this place really good walking trail y very beautiful scenic nature
Shahrin Shabnam Upoma
One of my professors suggested this park to us and we were not disappointed. It was a great place to hang out, enjoying the views and drive around. Our first stop was cedar falls, we went to the overlook first and then did the hike to reach the riverbed. The first 0.5 mile of the hike is moderately difficult, but the rest is relatively easy. And the end view was worth every step! The Fall is so beautiful. We also stopped at the petit jean gravepoint which was another high point of the park. If you’re visiting Arkansas, don’t forget to stop by Petit Jean State Park!
KATIE WOLF
Waterfall was more of a trickle, but the trails were extensive and very well marked. The hike down from the lodge is no joke. Seriously, you are more or less rock climbing. Take it slow. The lodge is beautiful and the food is great. Overlook is beautiful and great for pictures. We missed the leaves changing by about 2 weeks, but it was still very beautiful.
Jennifer Thessing
Beautiful park. We did the waterfall trail, this was my first time. It was a great hike, the waterfall is absolutely worth it!
Michael Jones
I've always loved going to Petit Jean mountain, and it's awesome to be able to share with my grandson.
chip morris
If you miss this you'll be sorry. Another great state park in AR.
Research the story of Petit Jean its worth it.
So much to do and see here.
Shani Enns
We screeched a quick u-turn to stop at this state park on a whim, and it was so worth the stop, even in the pouring rain! I wish we'd have brought the tent, so we could have camped in thus gorgeous place. There's a 400' waterfall with super easy access (less than a two minute walk from parking, on a beautiful boardwalk), and sweeping cliffside mountain views. Do yourself a favor, and take a few minutes to drive through this heaven-on-earth park! You won't want to leave.
Amy Nance
Love this park! It has a lot of trails and great things to see on the trails! The campground needs some serious love. A lot of the sites are unkept, uneven, badly broken up site driveways, and the hosts are not friendly at all! The bathrooms are super clean, and the visitor center is amazing! The staff in there were very helpful and so friendly! We did notice a lot of people let their dogs run off leash on the trails and inside the campground.
J B
The crown jewel of the Arkansas state park system. Waterfalls, caves and rocks, excellent hiking and views. The only thing missing is mountain bike trails.
Janie Higgins
The Park was far lovelier prior to the cutting down of numerous decades-old, massive pines to clear more camping spots for the big rigs. It is heartbreaking to see such "progress" all for revenue. Instead of the serene wooded lot, there are large campers sitting in the direct sun, baking.
The Lodge is making a wonderful comeback post-pandemic. The wait staff is kind and helpful, and the menu is improving each month. Mather Lodge gift shop is the only park spot local art can be purchased. The view from The Lodge is second-to-none.
Trails are always scenic; Cedar Falls is one of the most dramatic. Bear Cave is an excellent choice for young children to scamper through and boasts massive boulders interspersed with plays of light. Seven Hollows and Natural Bridge Hollow are lovely at any time of year. Stout's Point and The Pallisades are two of the most scenic spots for observation of the area for miles.
Jake M.
Beautiful! It's a long hike down to the falls and well worth it but be prepared for the hike back. It's grueling and I don't recommend doing it during the hottest part of the day like I did. Always bring water with you!
Troy Breaux
Always an Amazing visit no matter what time of the year. Me personally, I love the Fall Colors! And cooler weather.
Pam McDaniel
This was out first visit but I am already excited to go back. So much to see and so many beautiful sites to see
Brett Freeman
Very very scenic trails and views for any experience level hiker.
Lori Cope
Wow! Love this park! There are several nice hiking trails, some with beautiful waterfalls and caves. A walking/biking trail runs from the campgrounds all the way to Mather Lodge, where there is a wonderful overlook. There are some bat houses around the campgrounds and we saw hundreds of bats come out at night.
chad skabronski
It's nice and a lot of things to do. There's a new visitors center with things to learn about, Great for kids. Mathers Lodge has been added onto. They got a small menu but the Mather lodge burger is awesome. Comes with the tomatoe, lettuce, onion, jalapeño, mustard and stuff on the side. They also have this brownie, ice cream dessert. It's a big dessert for 6 dollars. Well worth it. There is Mike's of trails. The Cedar Water Fall trail is still closed February 2021. Has plans to open late spring of 2021. Camp Area B is open now.
, The camp areas C & D need work. They are old and tree roots growing under blacktop. Rv campsites are hard to get in the sping and summer. Box almost a year in advance. Great place and do the speed limit through the park.

Beautifull ! We haven't explored near all the parks in Arkansas, but Petit Jean is our go to park for us and all our family and friends when they visit us. If you go, make sure you visit the 95 ft. waterfall. Don't miss the sight where Petit Jean was buried. The view from there is amazing. It isn't attached to the main park, so visit their beautiful new visitors center, and get a free park map, so you don't miss anything. It's a breath taking experience.
If you like hiking, you will love all the choices !

Camped May 2021. Cedar Falls are flowing nicely.
We like the variety at this park and the accessibility of the park. Most of the hikes are short (1/2 mile or less) so if you cannot participate in longer hikes for any reason, you can still see and do most of the highlights at this park. We enjoyed the ranger led programs so much, Ranger Carrie was so sweet with my kids. They adored her! Ranger Jones was excellent as well. Overall Petit Jean is a larger and busier state park.
Camping: Campground A has large pull through sites but the layout for site 5 wasn’t out favorite because it’s on the inside of the loop. For some reason the air was thick with smoke in campground A but not in other campgrounds sections. Maybe wind direction?
Note about Summer: Personally, I wouldn’t want to visit this park during the hotter times of the year because there are not any swimmable waters here. The pool is only open to lodge guests (not RV’ers) and the lake and creek are not suppose to be swam in per park rules. So unless we missed something, there’s no where to cool off in the water. When we visited it was mid 70’s and my kids were looking for water to cool off in after mid-day hikes. So this would not be a summer destination for our family.

Petit Jean State Park is an Arkansas classic, a natural and historic treasure that has welcomed travelers for decades. The natural beauty and ancient geology of the legendary Petit Jean Mountain inspired the creation of Arkansas’s first state park and with it our state park system. The park mirrors the mountain’s rugged beauty with its rustic-style, native log and stone facilities constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) beginning in 1933.

great hike with amazing views! the cedar falls trail is perfect for starters and the waterfall is just so beautiful! was just there & am heading back tomorrow for more fun!
Phil Herring
Always a great experience. It's a must tooo door this every year.
Jonathan Gibson
The sights and scenery of this park are amazing. Well worth a visit. I will return and when I do it will be with my tent and some time to camp and really explore!
Heidi Jones
The park is amazing. It gives you the opportunity to see why Arkansas really IS the natural state. Breathtaking views are available not just at the park, but also on the trip there. I'd say come with plenty of time to explore the park & other attractions in the area, like The Museum of Automobiles.

Beautiful and well maintained park with great trails.

First time to stay at the lodge. Always camped or hiked before. No scouts this time.
Was quaint. We were there when it was nearly empty, so very quiet.
Restaurant was very decent. Very American cuisine.

If you are coming to Arkansas this is a must stop for absolute local beauty and culture. The visitor center is amazing. The staff is so professional. My man Lee is such a wealth of information and so polite. The learning displays in the visitor center is wonderful. My kids loved it.
The boulders, overlooks, and caves are amazing. The trails can be hiked by just about anyone. My 70yr old grandparents went down and up the trails no problem.
Todd Weatherford
Very good place to spend a weekend. Camping areas are nice but unfortunately you cannot camp outside the designated areas. Good variety of hiking difficulty depending on your preferences. Would recommend!

New favorite park in Arkansas. This is the first state park in Arkansas name after a young girl that is bury there. I can see why it is the first honestly it beauty will leave you wanting for nothing with so many combinations of awe inspiring views and rock formations. The sun finds its way thru the 🍃 and rest on the cliffs and water. Kids are never bore on these trails always stuff to climb on and water to play in. The caves are a nice touch as the transitional environment exchanges one beautiful faucet for another effortlessly. Enjoy it stay in a cabin or lodge for a weekend book in advance 😉.
Sooz M
Beautiful park and amazing amenities as far as the cabins and maher lodge restaurant go. My cabin was super comfortable and nice and the lodge had great food and a very nice staff and beautiful views of the hills. The trails at this park are also very well maintained and very well marked so they're easy to trek! One of the best state parks I've been to.
Jonathan Witt
Wonderful State Park with a lot to offer! Wonderful views, trails, and lots of beautiful look out points. Definitely worth the visit if your in the area. We stopped for lunch at the Lodge Resturant. Tyrone was an excellent waiter. Lunch service was great along with good food.
debra larsen
Great place to hike, especially in the fall. Trails are marked well.
Christopher Cordray
Amazing park on the top plateau on Petit Jean. Plenty of beautiful pines and a charming lake with a very nice lodge. The lookout was stunning! If you're from Texas enjoy the splendor seldom seen in the Lone Star state.
Lisa Mahler
We've been going here for over 25 years during the car show. Great day trip anytime. The views are amazing and everyone is friendly.
Michael Dozier
Beautiful scenery! We hiked 2 trails, they have different levels of difficulty. I did the longest and hardest, round trip about 6.6 miles for me. Definitely going back.
Shaun “TruDecadence” Rhoads
I've been on that mountain many times my life living in the town next to it. Beautiful part of the founding of Arkansas. Majestic with it's caves. Both bear and Indian. It also has a gorgeous wildflower field
User B
Love this place! The beautiful views and how well kept this park is one of the best in state for hiking and scenery. The camping areas are also great and well maintained.

Our favorite was Bear Cave Trail, in which gigantic rocks formed winding canyons and gorgeous views. We also really liked Rock House Cave and the trail leading to it, which traversed over what they called Turtle Rocks, because they looked like the shape and color of a turtle shell.
This is a very quaint park stradling a two lane highway in the mountains of Arknsas, with a waterfall, cliffs with unrestricted views of forrests and valleys and the Arkansas River and a "cave" where native Americans once habitated. Mostly rugged but very accessible from the road by foot. A rustic lodge is nestled in the park for overnight lodging and food (even if it's just lunch for a day trip).
Petit jean is probably the most beautiful place I've ever seen in person. There are so many trails with lots of history. The actual gravesight of petit jean sits on the side of the mountain that overlooks the arkansas river. Cedar falls is a 95 foot tall waterfall that you hyke right up to
Lovely park with breathtaking views and great hiking! The amenities are all great. I highly recommend Petit Jean State Park!
Cora Bettis
Because of drought conditions, Cedar Falls was pretty much a trickle. Hope the rains fill up the creeks and rivers. No matter, an absolutely beautiful state park, great trails! One of my favorite spots for sure!
KH Autry
Such a beautiful place!! Visiting from Florida and already wishing we had a longer stay over. The staff is beyond accommodating from friendliness to helpful. One very kind employee followed us up the mountain to let us know we had a bubble in our tire. The campsites are absolutely beautiful, the lake is so peaceful and cannot wait to explore more of this remarkable gem.
Karen Attaway
Beautiful treasure of a state park! The Cedar Falls waterfall is the must see. The strenuous part of the hike is going down and later up, the rock staircases. There are other rocks to cross as well. The Mather Lodge with adjoining restaurant and gift shop are rustic. I just wish the tv and Internet would work reliably when the sun goes down. The staff blamed the number of people using it. My hubby suggested rebooting the router and wallah, it started working again. Bring a book to read for evening entertainment!
Jan Me
My family loved this park. Although there was quite a few people that day, being outdoors in nature is still a great way to get out of the house and maintain social distancing during this pandemic.
There are quite a few places of interest within the park that we got to see such as a cool cave, the super neat turtle rock formations, plenty of overlooks with amazing views, beautiful hiking trail along the river, and of course the center of attention Cedar waterfall. We visited Petit Jean State Park while vacationing in Russellville, so the drive from there was only under one hour. No charge to get in and plenty of parking spaces at each location. For sure worth the trip.
Kathy McCullough
Made a quick pit stop to Mather Lodge for a night and enjoyed the majestic mountains. The Lodge with VIEWS was great. Food is a little pricey but still good. The trails are worth the hikes and the many scenic stops around Jean Petit Mountain are awesome and worth you view! Only reason I did not give this a 5 Star is because the wood and fire starter that you are given free would only burn for a few minutes. We are experienced fire starters, but the wood was so green it would not catch. The fireplace is part of the package, but no good if the fire does not burn.
Ariana Davidson
I went with my newborn and in-laws while it was cold, my father-in-law and husband loved the scenery and took gorgeous photos of the waterfall that was half frozen. Meanwhile it was too cold for me to go hiking with the baby, but the cabin we were in was so cozy and I got lost staring at the scenery and swinging on the porch swing, bundled up with my baby in my arms.
NITA SROKAMYER
Petit Jean is a beautiful place. It is a breathtaking View! You can look down the river valley You Could See For Miles it's a very Serene place to be.
Rac
Awesome place to go with your friends, family or boyfriend. We enjoy taking a few sodas with our yeti cup and climbing out on the huge rocks and soaking in the View and Nature. We have seen I believe to be Bald Eagle once flying and took loads of beautiful pictures. The bike ride up is worth the ride with all the curves and being able to see out over the scenery as your going up the mountain. We go here alreast every month or so. They also have other attractions other than just the overlook. They have the Automobile Museum, Horseback riding, trails that lead to a Waterfall, Camping, a In-ground pool that doesn't cost much but like $4 a person with slides that is very kid friendly. There's also a store that sells different kinds of fudge that is very good. It's been awhile since I've tried it but we used to get it often.
Lura Wade
Nice campgrounds. Good hiking trails. Beautiful views. Bathrooms could be a little cleaner and showers more private. Top of a steep and curvy road to mountain.
Marisela Spaulding
First time to visit Petit Jean Park. It was beautiful!
R. R.
Great place! Have cabins, lodge restaurant, great hike to the bottom to see the waterfall or can view from the top. Food in restaurant is good. Area is beautiful.
Waylon Nunn
The park is amazing! Majestic mountain views hiking biking walking trails. A few lodges in the park to stay at or cabins or camping. All great pricing. Beautiful waterfall. It's the first state park in Arkansas and a must see!
Amanda Swope
Other than being hot, I had a great time. I did the cedar creek trail. I didn't reach the end because of the heat, but I still had a great time exploring.
Kathi Mills
Make sure to watch the sunset (or sunrise!) from the overlook point. Fantastic campground in the tall pines. Historic lodge and vintage CCC cabins. Great hiking trails.
Kayla B
A MUST do if you are in the area! This is definitely one of the more busy parks, but for good reason. Once you get past the steeper part of the start of the trail, it is a fairly fast and flat walk to the waterfall. The restaurant and lodge are comfy, cozy, and have guest that are hard to beat! The restaurant has a fairly large menu that is absolutely fairly priced. The drive alone to get to the park is great! Must see!
Vonda Terry
Wonderful and was Glad they had the old people bridge to Chrystal falls but would have loved to have taken the one mile hike down to the bottom and through the cave
Nicole Darland
I love hiking here. The waterfall trail is best after a rain of course but the trails are easy to follow AND if you time your hikes right you can drop in at the mather lodge and het some lunch.. yum yum
R. Andrew Yarbrough
Had a blast! I highly recommend this to anyone! Kids or no kids, you will have a blast! The waterfall was worth the hike!
Tori McBride
Beautiful place with stunning scenery. We only went for a few short hikes but each were fun and easy with 6 kids in tow. We completed the Rockhouse Cave trail and the Bear Cave Trail. The trails were kept up very well and there were few signs of human disturbance. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back for a longer stay in a few months.
Jamie Hughes
This is by far one of my favorite national parks! So beautiful and has many things to do. The water is amazing. They have such a great setup here, not to mention plenty of geocaching available.
Annette Turner
I love this state park! I love the history! It is so beautiful and the buildings, campgrounds and overlooks are so beautiful. BUT THE RESTAURANT FOOD IS HORRIBLE. PLEASE! Do what you can to improve this! Find a good cook and pay them well. Update your menu to reflect a healthier mindset. You have one of the most beautiful settings for a restaurant! Raise the bar in the restaurant and be the place that is worth the drive! My husband and I both got SICK from the food. The salad bar was wilted, slimy and literally spoiled. We have been in the bathroom since we left! This is a health hazard! How scary for us and for you. The main dish was so greasy I could not eat it. My husband did and has been sick since we left. This needs to be a priority for you to address. You are known around a multi state area for your beauty. People drive off the beaten path to come your way. You have such potential there but how disappointing to drive all that way, be lured in by the setting of the restaurant and leave sick or disappointed. This has been the experience of so many concerning the restaurant. I hope you will take my review seriously. I hope the Mather Lodge Restaurant will step up her game and strive to be the best. Thank you.
Bridget Odaniel
Best state park ever! Spectacular trails, history, varied things to do. Native American pictographs ! Can't say enough good things about this park.
Todd Girod
By far, my favorite outdoor place to visit. This year was the first time I had ever been, and i've only been a couple times, but already trying to figure out when I'll get a chance to go back. They are so many good places to hike and see, bike, or getting out on the lake, you could easily stay here a week with your family. The facilities are very clean, the park is well taken care of, and all the staff we encountered were great.
Guilherme Prezotti
The park is stunning. I recommend for people to go with time to explore every lookout, the waterfall, the cave, the main Lodge, etc. It is definitely a place to spend the day and have fun. Just be mindful that not all trails (especially the one that leads to the waterfall) are easy to children, elderly or people with any knee, joint problem. There are plenty of options for parking and places to visit. Bring your water, snacks and enjoy !

Arkansas has peaceful lakes, numerous parks, famous mountain ranges and even diamond mines. It's no wonder that Arkansas is called the “state of nature”. The Petit Jean State Park is where you can see a natural waterfall and hear the beautiful water flowing through it. The French name of Petit Jean (meaning “Little John”; locals apparently say “petty jeen” instead of the French way like “puh-tee zjhahn”) to be a very interesting name for the state park the Cedar Falls resided in. Hiking trails encounter places with large slopes several times, but it is relatively difficult to walk. I was able to see various beautiful small streams. I went on a sunny day, so the bright sunlight reflected the trees and I could enjoy the beautiful scenery. I also encountered a small bee bird, a small squirrel. The walls made of large rocks looking up from the bottom were very magnificent and I was impressed.
Cedar Falls must have been the most attractive waterfall in Arkansas. As you can see from the pictures I took, there are some impressive high and vertical cliffs associated with the waterfall. It is possible to walk along the waterfall (but it was very slippery and I had to walk very carefully! I would not recommend it so much that you would not get hurt). It became a natural experience.
There was a pedestrian bridge that crossed a fairly large stream, but the signs there indicated that only two people could be on the bridge at a time. So, considering how popular this trail was, this caused a little cue. When we got to the other side of the bridge, we turned right at the junction and followed the upstream stream towards the waterfall. As I walked along the waterfall trail, I noticed that large rocks lined up along the road. After seeing Cedar Falls, I went back the way I came. I spent about 40 minutes on the return hike and the total hike time was over 90 minutes (or 3 miles round trip). I think there are individual differences, but some people feel that hiking is intense. We recommend hiking with non-slip safety shoes.
アーカンソー州には静かな湖、多数の公園、有名な山脈、さらにはダイヤモンド鉱山まであります。アーカンソー州が「自然の州」と呼ばれているのも不思議ではありません。The Petit Jean State Parkは自然の滝を見ることが聞き、その滝の流れる美しい水の音を聞くことが出来ます。

Very nice overlook. Fantastic place to watch sunset. Lots of good hiking trails around the waterfall. An hour away from west Little Rock.
E. A Sanchez
It's a beautiful fun hike sadly it's drying up so you'll see the waterfall very thin. Thanks to the government allowing Nestle to take water that belongs to the people. It'll be our tradition to come here every year on labor day.
Eric Amick
Tons of outdoor activities ranging from leisurely strolls to strenuous hikes. Restaurant and gift shop on-site. Ranger-led hikes and activities are fun for the whole family. The cabins are clean and maintained well. We've stayed at several parks in several states and this is one of the best!
Nick Bella
Absolutely INCREDIBLE state park. The best I’ve gone to. So much to do as it is such an enormous park. Hours and hours of trails to hike, including one that is 12 miles which I hope to get geared up for soon! If you’re near the area going hiking here is a MUST! Do not miss out! Even if you’re out of state looking for an amazing place to hike, GO HERE!!!
monique luno
There is so much to do and see here. The waterfall is beautiful. The trail is great it only gets strenuous on the way back up to the lodge. That part is fairly strenuous, though. The Rock House Cave is neat, it's a short walk past the Turtle Rocks to the cave.
Jean V
Plenty of amazing views, a waterfall, walking hiking and biking trails and several lodges/places to stay that are reasonable including cabins and campsites. Beautiful mountain and nature preserve. Must see it!
Sarah Payne
This campground is well-maintained. The facilities are lovely and the hikes that we were able to do with children were very cool. It was by far, the nicest state park I have been to -in any state.
Richard Pope
Great camping experience. Their trail maps leave something to be desired though. Little to no cell service in the camp ground but they do have wifi in the visitor center to download maps and whatnot.
Melissa M
Absolutely beautiful place. Lots of fun tails for everyone. From short hikes to long ones. The lookoff was beautiful and well maintained. Was handicap accessible. Can't wait to spend many more hrs exploring.
Gery Oswald
One of the most beautiful state parks we have been able to visit. The Mather lodge is so rustic and the restaurant was fantastic. ( We only had breakfast).
James Snider
We were in campground B for the weekend with a group spread amongst 8 or 10 sites. This was my first time there and we'll be back for sure! The sites all have electricity and water. The tent pads are pretty large. We had an 8 person Coleman tent with an awning/porch and there was a lot of room left on the pad. Great for huge tents. Each site has a fairly large firepit surrounded my a metal piece about 4" high for safety. Each pit has a foldover geill for cooking over fire. Each site also has a charcoal grill. The bathrooms/showers were pretty clean. I'm a little picky on public/camp bathrooms and the staff did a great job keeping them clean. They close for 4 hrs a day for deep cleaning and then they come a couple times more a day to mop and disinfect. The lake behind the visitor center is beautiful and has good fishing. The visitor center itself has some basic camping supplies, ice, wood, cold drinks, souvenirs, local fare, etc. Prices aren't bad at all. The employees were all very friendly and helpful. Lots of excellent hiking trails for all skill levels and abilities. Amazing scenery. All in all a definite jewel of a state park and campground. Looking to return with the grown kids in a couple weeks.
Jennifer Bird
Petit Jean State Park is beautiful, and the views are amazing! The staff working at the boat dock we're super friendly as were the dining staff at the lodge. We stayed for two nights and no one refreshed our towels or linens even though I saw the maid service on our floor. The desk staff at the lodge was not-so-friendly, and they almost seemed put out when asked for fresh towels.
Stormie
Very clean sites, easy hiking, and gorgeous views. Today we literally parked and got right to the hiking trail. The steps that were put in are next to useless unless you just need an extra clear indication of where the path is; they were all crooked and wonky from use and weathering. Such a great place to explore!
Jared Winchester
A hidden gem in the Arkansas state park system. Camping and cabins. Tons of beautiful hiking trails, and an awesome lunch spot at the lodge. I would highly recommend a day and a night at a minimum
Trinh Le
An absolutely wonderful weekend getaway. The hikes are easy to moderate, and the views are pretty good. Make sure to come during the wetter seasons to see more water at the waterfall.
Carol Haywood
Love this Arkansas State Park. It rained the 2 days we were there in May but it looks like there is lots to do in the summer with fishing, a swimming pool, sports field, lots of hiking. Great campgrounds. We were in campground D which has very nice sites in the woods, although best for tents and shorter campers. Our trailer is 23 feet and was tight in a short arc pull through. Campground C is in the woods but more populated when we were there. Campground B is more open and closer to the park road. Campground A is more open with paved Pads and looks good for larger rigs. The Bath House was heated (50 degree wet weather), clean and basic. Had to push button in shower for 20 seconds of water but it was nice and strong and warm. So keep pushing the button.
Steven Holland
Love this State Park. Highly recommend cabins 1 thru 17, all overlook a cliff and feel secluded. Trails are great, food in the lodge is good, but a little overpriced. Trailheads are often loose gravel or sand parking lots. Do not recommend taking a motorcycle in, we had to pass on 2 hikes because I was concerned about the bike falling over.
Danielle Mogg
I absolutely love this place so much to do and explore! Fantastic for every single age group! Super fun can't wait to go back
Gokul V Gopal
Definitely Worth visiting! The Cedar falls trail is moderate hard and you may find difficulty if you you have health conditions. We went in Mar 7, a sunday during our spring break. It wasnt crowded and we were able to go behind the waterfalls. That was the best view one can have.
Candise “Candy” Rutledge
Petit Jean park is by far our favorite place to go hiking. There's everything from super easy trails to difficult and I haven't met a staff member or Ranger that wasn't friendly and very helpful. Can't wait til our next visit!
Oscar Nuñez
We got an overlook of the Arkansas River and took a visit to Cedar Falls, taking the challenging but rewarding 2 mile trail. They are both very photogenic and almost always promise beautiful family memories. You will sweat during the fall/spring/summer. Here are some pictures, but even then they don't do it justice.
James Catalano
Wonderful state park worth the drive if you’re from out of town. Hit the visitor center first to be greeted by friendly staff that will point you to the best spots. Highly recommend the longer trails if you can time it right. We went in late December and it wasn’t crowded.
jim catalfamo
i visit the park this pass January and fell in love with park right from the entrance. being from NY we have some of the best mountains in the states and petit jean in my book ranks with the best. i got there at sunrise and loved the scenic spot at the entrance. i spent at least 30 minutes admiring the view. what a welcome!! i spent the whole day from sunrise to sunset and was bored for a minute. very person that work there was wonderful and the park kept on wowing me with its beauty from the entrance to the gorgeous petit jean overlook and everything in between. i even found a frost flower on the bear cave trail. if petit jean is this pretty on a sunny january 26th day, i can't imagine how she would look in the spring and fall. don't rush this park, take it slow and soak in her beauty.
Kat Aber
Beautiful, quiet and well maintained state Park. It was even more beautiful than the pictures showed on the reviews. Will recommend to others and hope to come back!
Jody
Oldest state park in Arkansas. Lots of camping areas. Limited AAA sites mostly on the lake side. Grounds are kept fairly well. Some of the older camp sites really need to be improved. Pads are uneven and some are really short.
We were there in mid September and a new “Welcome Center “ is being built. Workers hit the main water line, so we didn’t have water for a few hours. No one came around to tell the campers with water at their sites, not even the “ camp hosts”. That was a bit disappointing.
Staff we encountered were friendly. Lots of trees, trails, and things to do. Swimming pool also.
We’ve been several times and will go back again.
Johnnie Hammonds
Beautiful scenery and fabulous hikes in this park. Even Lake Bailey from a kayak is nice. So why the poor rating one may ask. Here are my reasons: No swimming is allowed in the lake...although a surprise, we didn't think it would be a problem since they have a pool. Unfortunately, no problem, they charge $5 a head to swim in the pool. The fee should be waived for paying campers. They also close things often and frequently. For example bathrooms/bathhouses are ALL closed for 4 hours in the middle of the day...hopefully, you don't have an immediate need, because you would be heading to the nearest tree! Another poor choice is that they do not have paper towels or hand dryers in the bathroom/bathhouse. Kind of rough to keep up with government recommendations of regular hand washing when you can't dry after washing. They require that you check in prior to occupying a site. This required me doing a 180 with a 32 foot trailer in tow in a small circle drive...what silly rule. Allow check in after parking your camper. Finally, they don't allow drones to be taken off or landed on park property...I believe this is a state wide law, but still ridiculous. I can assure you that my drone is less of a disturbance than the many Harleys that were driving through the park.
Barnabas A. Christian
This state park is a Hidden Gem amongst all the beauty in the natural state.
I'm not a hiker at all, but these trails behind the lodge
Have a magnetic pull on your senses.
Say hi to Park Ranger "Uncle Josh.... Truly the mountain man ambassador!
Joe_Flieder
Absolutely beautiful mountains. It was a tad busy when we went and the waterfall was a little bit underwhelming due to a dry season. But I will absolutely be going back
Brittany johnson
We hiked to the waterfall, which at this time is more like a water-trickle. Very beautiful though. Make sure to take lots of water and keep in mind that going back up the trail is harder after already hiking a bit. Overall a very enjoyable time though.
Jessica Dalton
One of my favorite state parks in Arkansas to play in. The grave yard site area offers some of the best sunrises and overlook tucked in the back part of the park overlooks some stunning views and magical sunsets with no hiking required.
Rachel Ward
Rock formations, hikes near the road with great views and interesting geology. Wonderful underestimated state park. Well worth a visit.

Stayed in loop c, #65 in a motorhome. Hard to get a 50 amp, but a 30 was fine. Campsite was clean & big. There's water, but just to fill tank, not keep hooked up. No sewer, but dump is across highway. Bath house clean & convenient. Rock cave was AWESOME! The trail is easy going to it, moderate coming back if you tire easily. Plenty of resting places tho. Bear cave trail was AMAZING!!! Easy in & out. Lots of photo ops! Went on the boardwalk to the falls overlook. Falls weren't running, but the view was still amazing.Easy walk to & from. Saw gravesite of Petite Jean from Stout's point. Looked out over the Arkansas River. Walked around in the shell of the college bldg. The only thing I didn't like was that you can't get in the creek.
Vanessa Enriquez-Rios
Textures!! Well maintained park by staff who have grown-up here and returned to share and preserve the rich history and natural wonders. Look forward to returning in the Spring when Cedar Falls is thundering and the wildflowers are popping. Devoured the open-face roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy at the Mather Lodge restaurant. Cabins could use quieter AC units...other than that the room was clean, great water pressure with large soft towels, and moisturizing bar soap. The mountain is actually a mesa created by water carving out sandstone over thousands of years leaving the red/brown/ iron formations behind to create this beautiful park.
Morgan Carr
One of the cleanest state parks I have ever been to. Simply beautiful, all the trails are clearly marked and the staff is super helpful. We stayed in a yurt and the cabins. The yurt is one of the best places to stay. They are right on the water, have electricity, a gas stove, and a canoe. They sleep 6 with 3 bunks. You do have to walk or drive to the bathrooms but they aren't that far. These are great if you don't have a camper but still want electricity.
Kat
Just love it.
Great trails, perfect to hike with my dogs and get some nice fresh air.
Amy Kimbrough Mitchell
We had a good camping adventure. Great hikes with beautiful views and great facilities. Would recommend getting a reservation. We didn't have one and originally ended up in overflow which is still very beautiful and you can see the stars at night because it is more open than the sites with many trees; however, you cannot build a fire in overflow. There are day-use above ground grills you can use but we really wanted a camp fire. Luckily as my husband was finalizing our site someone called and cancelled there reserved site and we got it! (So if you're going without a reservation and happen to end up in overflow just be aware you won't be able to build a fire next to your site.)

Lovely park the locals visit regularly. Worth spending time here if you are passing through. If you have very little time it is still worth the drive to go to the overlook and see the grave of Petit Jean. If you have a whole day, go to Mather Lodge and visit the trails. <3
Tulsi Ambelal
We went tent camping with 5 adults and a dog. The hiking is beautiful and challenging and all of the overlooks that you can drive up to are great! The waterfall was more like a trickle, and the trail that goes to the base of it was closed. There was still a lot to see and do though! Would go back again!
Samantha Battenfield
It is a very clean Park the restrooms are always clean. It is a place you can go that is maintained by Park management yet you still have a sense of total freedom. Plenty of options to occupy your time beautiful scenery great place to make family memories
FiestaDeportivaOK
The park is free. We recommend to google the hike you want to do and go there. We did Seven Hollows Trail. We walked about two miles until we reached the Natural Bridge (see photos). We went with my kids 10 and 12 year olds, it was a bit tiring but it was good.
David Jones
One of the most beautiful locations in the state. Cedar Falls is a short hike from Mather lodge and I would say it's doable for most people though the hike back up the hill is a little steep. I feel like I should WARN visitors about trying to walk up close to the falls themselves while I'm here. We were planning on getting a closer look ourselves but just happened to arrive in time to watch a car sized chunk of shale fall off of the cliff and land where I have seen people standing before.
Bear cave is nothing like it's name and my favorite site to see when I visit. The narrow passageways and little cave areas are fun for hours. The scenery from the top of the formations is pretty wonderful to say the least.
Alan Miller
One of the best State Park in the country. The park has a waterfall, many trails, even one wheelchair accessible, a cave, cabins, lodge, that the dinning area is on the edge of the cannon. There are over 140 campsites, a pool and more, like a great view of Arkansas River from the east end of the mountain.
Kim McComber
Petit Jean State Park has multiple beautiful overlooks, with many hiking trails of all levels! The Rock House Cave is amazing with great history! Wonderful place for a family trip!
Tasha Hawthorne
Beautiful place to be, stayed at Mathers Lodge, clean rooms, curtious staff, good food! We hiked the cedar falls trail while raining oh boy was it amazing!! I will definitely be coming back, some gorgeous views from the trails and bluffs! Included is a picture of the waterfall, now we had to hike through some stuff to get to it and my legs are still sore!!!! So worth every single step!!
Adam Hill
Beautiful canyon with interesting geology on a mountain overlooking the Arkansas River. We went in July and it was hot and humid, take lots of water if you take any of the great hikes.
Sweet Smell of Rain Photography
Beautiful park. Easy access to many picturesque places. Couple more difficult trails to more awesome sights. Lodge has some incredible meals.
Jessica Spicer
This was a wonderful experience! We spent a few days here and were able to hike many of the trails, visit the caves, and explore many of the naturally beautiful things that make Arkansas the natural state. Sunsets were spectacular and the memories are amazing. As soon as we got home the kids asked when we could go back!
Boonies65
Camping, cabins, lodge and of course great hiking! Some easier trails... some harder. A little bit of everything for young and old. Museum of automobiles is also close by.
Lori Ann Wilde
Gorgeous, well maintained trails, facilities, and visitor center/nature museum. Check in there first, as they’ll have a list of activities and educational programs.
Keri Longacre
It would be helpful if they had some more trail signs on some of the trails and their paper map can be a bit confusing. However, the Cedar Falls hike was amazing and well marked. The Waterfall at the end is well worth the hike.
Grand Promenade
Petit Jean State Park is just wonderful. Some of the very best hikes I have ever been on. Here are a few pictures of Seven Hollows Hiking Trail. Wonderful walk and a amazing environment. Enjoy life 😁 …
Stacey Brown
Best state Park ive been to so far in Arkansas. We absolutely love it here. Look forward to returning and camping.
Rob K
Great State Park close to Little Rock. Must visit if you want to see anything special. The view from the restaurant and the hike to the waterfall is amazing!
NR B
The first and one of the best State Parks in Arkansas! This is a must visit point. Several hiking trails including Cedar Falls, Bear Cave, etc. Lodging is available through Cabins at Mather Lodge, Camping Sites, Yurts, etc.
Ted Kusmierski
Clean travel trailer sites with full hookups and good views and not too close together. Wonderful trails for hiking with great views. Nice lodge with reasonably priced food.
jennifer grisham-rasco
It's a beautiful park with lots of long and spiritually satisfying trails. One of those trails lands you at Cedar Falls, which is breathtaking.
Courage Camp
Beautiful! Amazing trails and outstanding adventures if you have kids. Our boys loved exploring the caves and trails. If you have kids I'd recommend a campsite as far from the main highway as you can get. We stayed in 39 with 5 boys 2-9, And altho the highway speed limit is posted 20mph, very few people actually drove that slow. Most drove btwn 30-40mph and sadly the road is very close to campsite 39. Also the campsites close to the lake are way bigger than the campsites across the highway. We will only stay on lake side after visiting. The visitor center has small amount of necessities if you forget paper towels, etc. Also their is a small informational walk thru at visitor center with animal prints and fake habitat our boys loved searching for animals behind the glass. We can't wait visit again.
Santiago Albuja
When I get to the Park, I was impressed of the facilities and places to visit. We had an amazing time with some folks from our church.
Tiffany Harker
This place is my little heaven away from home. It never gets old and Im always discovering new sights I haven't seen before. Breathtakingly beautiful. The childrens playground could use some updating though. That's my only complaint.
Ernesto Valenzuela Jr
Petite Jean State park is such a phenomenal place. Great mountainous hiking trails that range from easy to strenuous. Scenery is amazing and peaceful, soft streams and large waterfalls.
It's a memorable place, Cedar Falls trail and Seven Hollows Trail are amongst my favorites there. I've included some photos from both trails
Andrew Nickols
For a family outing it is fun to go and see nature, eat food, and enjoy a day or a few hours in nature. Not overly crowded but not so barren you won't see people. As an expierenced hiker I couldn't find any higher difficulty hikes, but if your not they will be plenty hard or plenty easy depending on want
Debbie Lockley
Great place to spend an afternoon. Plenty of trails and an awesome small cave. Only draw back was the waterfall wasn't flowing except for small trickle.
Dylan Morse
Arkansas' original State - and with the varied terrain, sights & activities it's a favorite. The hiking trails are some of the most scenic in the region. A fun place to camp with the family as well.
Mike Baxter
If you are looking for great scenery and hiking trails, this is the state park to go to. Having a restaurant right on site is very nice.
chloe stafford
Very nice state park! There’s a lot of trails with beautiful views. I love going here for a day trip
Sus Paul
This is a pretty park that features waterfalls, overlooks, canyons, and caves to observe. It's very orgainized and trails are very straight forward. I would recommend seeing all the overooks and the cedar falls trial.
Summer Wynn
So beautiful! Used to go as kid every year, this year the tradition kept on with my two babies!! Loved telling my daughter the story of Petit Jean and and letting her read the history. Will be going again every year now!
Tre Day
Stayed in Yurt 3 and had a great time overall. Would highly recommend for a medium sized family. Yea, i wished the bathrooms were a tad closer and planes at the airport across the lake didn't fly so low, but that was kinda cool too as long as you're not sleeping. Bring stuff to keep you and crew warm. I'm sure you will make some long lasting memories as we did :)
BuZgal
Theres free parking at the park so you can drop your car at the lot and start your adventure at once.
There is a little hotel and a private events place in the main log cabin by the parking lot so you can spend the night here if you want or have an special event happen here. They also have a restaurant at the main log cabin so if you are hungry go in there and have some food before your hike.
The view from the cabin is pretty amazing too.
What a petty place. the hike is super fun, there are plenty of people crossing your path, they are so nice and polite it is very impressive really.
The trail there is not super bad however on the way back it is a little more challenging for sure.
Along the way you will see plenty of families and many people also bring their dogs to the trail and I loved that, I loved see the puppies have fun along the way in this hike.
The hike for us ended in a beautiful waterfall, sadly nobody is allowed to get into the water but none the less it was a very pretty place to see.
This is a nice place to visit if there is time for sure.
George S
Yesterday my wife and I took a ride to Petit Jean State Park. It took us a little over an hour, but it was well worth it. Several trails here to enjoy. Also bike trails. The weather was great we totally enjoyed ourselves. The bike trail was paved very nicely. Great for children. One family we saw had scooter skateboards. The older sister was on a bike and trailing behind was Mom with a baby carriage. Not sure how long the bike trail is but we walked for over an hour. We packed a lunch and had a great day trip. The only problem was because of the drought the waterways were limited. The waterfalls were not flowing. If you are looking for something to do with the family I would recommend you try it. We are making plans to take our grandchildren when they visit.
Sidney Freedman
Midway through a long drive i wanted to stop here and check out the State Park, i'm so glad i did. Just the drive up to the State Park was worth it and leaving, there was plenty of beautiful views. I only had time to stop at one area, but i really liked it and hope to come back again.
Tim Shreffler
What a beautiful park. Trails everywhere to enjoy. New visitor center is beautiful .
Vidhi Gada
It was a very cute state park with lots of hikes, a big campground and nice scenic overlooks. The visitor center has lots of information about the park, drinking water, ice machine and very clean toilets. We did the Cedar Falls hike and it was AMAZING! However, once you cross the Davies Bridge and go over to the other side where the CCC overlook is, the roads are not paved and I'd recommend you to be careful with the type of vehicle you take there.
David Stubblefield
Good place to vacation if you enjoy hiking heat and humidity awsome views
Jackie Deen
Petit Jean is a beautiful park with so much to do. We found the campsites to be roomy and there are a lot of trails to explore. We've visited year-round and always have a great time.
Saraswati Gurung
Stunning fall colors from Petit Jean State Park(11/14/21). Such a beautiful view.
Lavanya Venkat
Excellent place to hang out! Trail to waterfalls may be tiring. Wear good shoes, carry water bottle and have an extra pack of clothes!
Best waterfall bathing experience ever!
Kenny Yan
Love this place. It's one of the most beautiful State Park in Arkansas
Jessica Rivera
One of my favorite places in Arkansas to visit! Never a dull moment and always a new hike. Great for every season. Variety of trails for every level of difficulty. Drive up to see bluffs, or go out and hike them. A lovely restaurant and hotel as well!
Ali Olmstead
Everyone talks about how great it is here. We came here in July 2022. There is no lake you can swim in (which they don’t specify) , the waterfall is dried up, and the pool COSTS MONEY even after you’ve spent all the money to camp. We had fun because we made the best of our situation but we are definitely never coming back here.
Jackie Wyman
Petit Jean is a beautiful park with fairly easy trails. I always see every age group on the trail. I would love to come back and camp here!
Kris Allee
Visited for the first time today. Amazing views, well marked and accessible trails, only a short distance off the freeway.
Aaron Mizell
The water was barely a trickle when we went, but the hike there and the beauty you find with each step is well worth it. It is steep at parts and a workout, so be prepared for that. Plenty of places to rest and stare at all the majestic scenery surrounding you.
Ja Morris
Really stunning views and hikes, fun activities for the whole family, and everything from primitive camps to fancy cabins. A gem.
George S
Arkansas has several state parks. Petit Jean I one of them.
Great to visit even for the day. Several trails. One trail is hard surface great for the little ones to ride their bikes, skateboards, scooters. Not sure the length but we saw one family really enjoying themselves and the Mom was pushing the baby carriage while the older kids were skating and biking.
Corie Jones
Beautiful state park with so much to do. The park is extremely clean and well kept. The camping pads are so nice.
Lori Neidick
Stayed in the D loop. Loved the full tree canopy so you didn't bake in the sun. Nice park from what we saw. Would definitely stay here again
Johnny A
my only gripe was the pool is closed during the weekdays now. website makes no mention of it. that’s valuable info, as you can’t swim in the lake or waterfall here. gorgeous park, challenging hiking trails and not crowded this time of year (during the week).
Chloe Alix
Amazing! We did the seven hollows trail. Great scenic variety. We will be back to this park!!
Keith Doom
Beautiful park in Central Arkansas. I can honestly see why this park was preserved for future generations to enjoy.
Jenn Carter
Second trip and and the park did not disappoint. Nov 2022 the waterfall is a trickle , but still flowing.
Michelle C
This is my favorite place in Arkansas. The hiking trails are great, with beauty at every step. Even if you don't hike, there are several overlooks with easy access.
Canaan McGee
Rarely can a place be a destination for everyone but Petit Jean is that place. The trails here will take you to water falls, grottos, bear caves, even a natural bridge and more. There are also great overlooks that are roadside if your not up for a hike.
Alex volpert
What a fantastic park. Many different camp areas to choose from. Lakeside or in the woods. Lodge rooms or cabins. Great food in the dining hall of the lodge with fantastic views. Petit Jean is a hikers dream with breathrake views and trails to cave and waterfalls. Tennis courts, volley ball, basketball, etc. Landing strip for small planes. Small lake to put your boat in.....did I mention the views! Lol. Little store with home made fudge and ice cream. Suvanier shops. Supplies for camping and hiking. GO GET YOU SOME OF God's Beauty!!
Marco Sipan
Great state park with a lot of beautiful views and hiking trails. The Cedar Creek Water Fall trails is a must to do if you visit this park. The water fall spot is beautiful to watch but don't get disappointed if the water fall is so little.
Jessi Montz
Cedar falls has been my favorite hike of all I've taken thus far and just recently enjoyed a weekend of camping and seeing more that's to offer here. Highly recommend!!!
Roger William Pfeiffer
The Cedar Falls trail is the prettiest one mile trail in Arkansas.
Jill D
Didn't have to pay to get in which was awesome! There was a visitors center along with a little shop situated next to a lake -- the view was gorgeous!
Natalie Ellington
The views are amazing grew up going to church camp here every summer and is my ultimate "zen" place.
Derek McKean
Cabins were nice besides a mouse looking for a meal. Told the front desk they casually blew me off. Besides that, this is an amazing state park. Great hiking, beautiful scenery and facilities. I cannot recommend it enough.
Carlo Solórzano
Stayed in a cabin and loved it. Staff was great and accommodations were too. Restaurant had good food. Perfect and easy access to the trails. I can’t wait to return and explore more of the area. So much wilderness, so little time.
Mr. B
Decided to make a quick day trip definitely worth it. I’d love to come back and spend more time.
Kimmy H
During ADFA's company retreat quite a few co-workers and Board members took a short hike to Bear Cave trail and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. Afterward we stayed at Mather Lodge where we finished a successful retreat and Board meeting.
Heather Toups
The state park is beautiful. I would recommend brining your own camper or staying at the cabins at Mather Lodge.
Hudson Edwards
Amazing views! Wonderful time, and nice people. Love the Mather lodge resteraunt. And sooooo beautiful. I would reccomwnd coming here for a relaxing vacation. And did I say it is sooo pretty?
Amos Spencer
The campground was clean quiet. The trails were well marked. Caleb Parker park ranger was very helpful.. Our ac was not working. He got up on the. roof and had the fan blowing in no time.
A Transforming
Arkansas has some beautiful state parks. This is just one of them. Located a few miles outside of Morrilton. Enjoy the trails, park, cabins, fishing, and the boardwalk to the waterfall. There are also trails to the waterfall, a lodge and restaurant.
Pauline Gough
The falls was hard to see from where we ended up. What a beautiful trail though. Every turn led to a new beautiful scene. And when we went it was not crowded at all so a nice peaceful hike for my family and i

I love hiking here. Loads of beauty surrounding you at every step. I am a regular hiker of the Cedar Falls trail and just recently went on the Boy Scout Tail for the first time in my 28 years of hiking at Petit Jean. I made it to Blue Hole and found a corner of walls made up of huge rocks. Good time. Lots of great photo ops and scenery. If yer an early bird like me, 7am is peaceful and you have the woods all to yourself on a holiday, like Christmas. Great for family’s, church groups, summer camper field trip, Girl and Boy Scouts. Don’t forget back up phone battery life. You’ll need it.
All I ever offer for advise on any expedition at Petit Jean (But mostly speaking about Cedar Falls) is the following:
abide to LNT (Leave No Trace) and bring plenty of water for everyone in the group: a gallon of water, each. And SIP THE WATER! Wear hiking or work utility boots like this 🥾. Not tennis shoes or flip flops. Be prepared for everything. Bring a few snax per person as well. Rest when you feel that you need to. Don’t rush! Enjoy the trail and all the fresh air at a leasirly pace. Running is a bad idea. getting a hearty and heavy duty walking stick is a good investment on this trail if you become a regular of the trail. This trail is not for small children. 7 and up will wear themselves out on the way back up the mountain to Mather Lodge, and sleep the whole car ride back if you aren’t camping out or renting a cabin or room at the lodge. I suggest to all when hiking back up to Mather Lodge from the bottom of the mountain, rest after you make it up the steps of each switchback. Take a few minutes and slow yer heart rate down before going up the next one, and SIP YOUR WATER SLOWLY. Trust me you will thank me later!
I’m only 38 but I take my time. If I don’t, I pay for it later with a headache and a sore back followed up by leg craps all night. So that’s my two cents about hiking Cedar Falls trail and the Boy Scout trail to blue hole @ Petit Jean State Park.
betsy orme
Petit Jean is just a wonderful state park! Our family loves it and have gone many times. With lots of sites, a variety of great trails, a great sunset overlook, friendly staff, and many other amenities, it's a peaceful retreat on top of the plateau, whether alone or with a group. It's a gem!
Greg Williams
This place was pretty awesome. The staff were very helpful and the park is beautiful
Chaz Bell
Hiking, fishing, swimming, oh my! Just follow the asphalt road to a place where dirt roads grow. An easy drive from the Mid-South and conveniently placed in the near heart of Arkansas. Spend a day, or a weekend and unwind with fantastic views of old hills, valleys and stories of long ago.
Daniel Chamblee
REALLY loved our stay here. Family enjoyed, was beautiful park, lots to do and see in immediate area, and dump station on the way out had two lanes! The one and only gripe I have, and this is being nitpicking, is I wish Arkansas state park system used the "Reserve America" system adopted by Florida and Texas for making camp site reservations. MAKE RESERVATIONS EARLY, they do fill up unless you are looking out a ways!
Cathy Mansfield Skelton
Petit Jean mountain is one of my favorite places to go. Lots of trails to hike and the scenery is always so beautiful. The lodge is so pretty and the food is really good!
Seth Coleman
Some amazing points of interest. We hiked about 12 miles to get around. Leave your car behind and walk there. Its better.
Ayush Verma
This is a hidden gem in Arkansas. Breathtaking views and natural trails will make the mind away from the concrete forest.
Best place for a weekend getaway.
Tina Williams
Petite jean state park is so relaxing. Great for vacationing with a beautiful scenery, and enjoyable things to do like hiking, swimming, camping, fishing, bike riding etc. Loved it and will defiantly be going back!
Mr. Dobbins
We love this area! Truly God's country.
Deric Pinales
Beautiful trails. Great scenery. I can't wait to see it in the fall. Please leave with your trash, or better leave with ANY trash.
Anamaria Niotis
There are tons of things to do. Hiking, walking, running, biking, fishing, swimming (pools), tennis, and more. I like that their sites are roomy. The bathrooms, trash, and everything were clean and picked up. It was beautiful. Kids played in the streets, and we made many friends. It was peaceful
Clyde Carr
Huge park with lots of hiking trails and scenic views. Mather Lodge Restaurant has good food with reasonable prices and great views from the dining room. If you like vintage cars, stop at The Museum of Automobiles while you're there.
Cameron Johnson
Amazing views, just limited parking. The bear caves are great, the native american markings in the big cave are great as well.
Dylan Tully
Petit Jean is an amazing park with great views and a wide variety of trails. You could spend an afternoon here picnicking by the waterfall or spend a whole weekend hiking all the trails!
Bobby Sherron
The visitors center is very nice. Plenty of parking. Clean restrooms. Small historical museum that is very informative.
Ryan Mathis
Absolutely breathtaking park. Great camping spots and plenty to see. Waterfalls, caves, and hidden springs. Hiking trails for people of all skill levels ages. Strongly recommend a visit
Gema Hernandez
A nice beautiful and scenic park! We made the drive from Texas and are glad we did. Plus the Yurt was an interesting find 😀 …
norman cox
First impressions count the most, and Lauren and Cody certainly impressed. Professional, friendly and informative.
The park is beautiful and well kept. No trash or litter to be seen. A loop sites are really spaced out Toilet and shower block whilst spotlessly clean could do with updating in the future.
Great visitors center with plenty to see. Swimming pool on site. (additional $5 per person)
Lots of hiking and biking trails with great views across the Arkansas River Valley.
Already booked our spot for next year.
Justin Mills
Love coming to petit jean mt!!
Katherine Barker
Trying to get in all the hiking trails! So many to view! Love the area having a blast :-)
Brenda Morris
It was rainy but at least a little cooler. Watch out for the construction at the lookout and visitors center but still lots of good hiking.
Randall Pitcock
No way to describe the natural beauty of Arkansas oldest state park. Beautiful mountain top camping. Streams, forest and small lake. Hiking galore with beautiful vista views
Tom W.
Extremely scenic area. Dog friendly. Good for all ages. Some trails are more difficult than others and require stamina and agility. Can be crowded at times but worth it. Definitely worth seeing.
Calvin
Great scenery. Kids cought impetigo and was bitten by spider while we were there. Stayed in yurt 4. Other than that it was a nice place to stay.
J B Cross
One if the best state parks in the country. Wonderful camping locations with a fishing and swimming lake. There is a large pool. Mather Lodge offers spectacular vista's from the dining room. The play grounds are great for small children.
Mike Beavers
We live close and if we want a nice hike when we don't have a lot of time. Absolutely beautiful trails and lots of hidden gems here. Driving thru today since the park is mostly closed and just before sunset seen a bobcat crossing the road in front of us. Keep your eyes open and look for everything.
Teriann Shrum
Make sure to eat breakfast at Mather Lodge. Go hungry and order the Petit Jean Stack! Oh my!
Hasbrowns, biscuit half, eggs, sausage, cheese, biscuit half and covered with biscuit gravy. You will love it!
Juli Clark
Beautiful hiking trails with amazing views, delicious food at the lodge, and the park is so well-maintained.
Kianny03
Great view. Nice place to visit with the family and take some pretty pics!
syd barrett
Beautiful views, good trails.
John Long
Absolute beauty of a park. Trails, hills, a lake, mountain tops, history. It's got it all and plenty of fresh clean air!
Denise Hampton
I loved the hike!!! It was a workout, but well worth it!!! Definitely visiting again!!!
Lukas Deem
Wonderful park to get some nature time in. Nice and quiet with multiple trails. It does tend to get busy on weekends and holidays.
Steve Moore
This a good place to go for a good hike,no I didn't eat there 😔, can rent cabins. Great place to visit. 👍👍👍.well go back sometime. …
Thomas Nienaber
Great weekend getaway from Little Rock. The views are quiet spectacular for this area. The hiking trails are very well kept and there are trails for everyone.
chris morgan
Amazingly beautiful, quiet, and peaceful place. We drove up for a Christmas hike up to the waterfall, and were treated to a fog-clad landscape like something out of a movie!
Joseph Kirby
I went back to Petit Jean recently for the first time since going as a kid. I loved it just as much now as back then! It's a beautiful place, and there are so many things to see and do. I was really glad we decided to stop and spend the day here. I wish we could've stayed longer, but it was starting to get dark.
Josina Reaves
A great day trip from Little Rock! I drove out with my four-year-old nephew and my sister, and we had a terrific time. Easy drive, lovely views once you're off the interstate, and the park is beautiful. We visited the waterfall overlook and the hiked the Bear Cave Trail. It was a great day out!
Byron O. Lawrence
Petit Jean is an interesting place. It's a flat park with a lake situated on a plateau on the south side of the Arkansas river. Where the creek that serves the lake flows off the plateau, a valley has been cut and creates lots of scenery (a waterfall too). There's a good car museum.
The loop A camp sites are awesome, full service. The loop D camp sites are rougher and in the woods.
The visitor center is really nice. The swimming pool is nice, but costs extra money to access.
There's rentals for the lake, but no swimming is allowed.
V
Love this place. Several trails to walk. It takes about 30 mins to walk down to the waterfall. That trail starts behind the Mather Lodge. They have just about everything you need at this state park. They have a pool, basketball court, camping, fishing, hiking, boat rental . We stayed in a duplex cabin that did not have kitchen. I was aware it did not have a kitchen but they also do not have grills at the cabin or allow grills at these cabins. They do have a microwave and minifridge and the lodge has a restaurant. The best thing to eat at the lodge is the pizza and salad bar. My only complaint is this park and specifically the trail to the waterfall is packed everytime I have been and there are alot of dogs and dog poo. The amount of people almost take away from the serenity of it.
Hannah Horsch
GORGEOUS! We love to go hiking in the early spring when it's still cool outside. This park was still gorgeous even without any leaves.
Jonathan Harvell
Peaceful, good trails for hiking, clean restroom In the welcome center, friendly helpful staff.
Narmeen Makhani
Lots of lovely hiking trails. Great place to watch raptors. The cedar falls trail was perfect.
Tona Tompkins
Absolutely beautiful!! Photos serves no justice when it comes to the trails and the views. Really peaceful. The only complaint I have is not being able to swim in the lake and the creeks, but they will have two pools for those camping. We will definitely stay again!!!
Michael Dudley
The park is great. It has plenty of good trails and beautiful overlooks. The Mather Lodge was somewhat underwhelming. The food was good for the most part. It was a little pricey and could have more healthy options. The coffee is terrible both at the restaurant and in the room. There is a coffee shop in the area but it's not the best either.
P Miller
Today no water but the colors were awesome. Hiked all 4.5 miles...loved the turtle back shaped rocks!
Robert Latus
Great place to see fall colors
Heather B
Awesome state park look forward to hiking the rest of the trails!!!
Brian Connelly
We had a spot right on the water. We pulled in with no reservations and a lot of luck. The people there were so nice and understanding. It was exactly what we needed from a long day on the road.
Lindsey Kellis
Small but still a great visit with great, short hikes. Beautiful rocks and caves and forests and waterfall.
Lindsey Lowman
I love Petit Jean. The trails are pretty, the view is spectacular, and the history is rich. I always recommend it to people.
Shaine Carter
It's quiet, with a lot of beautiful hiking and scenery, and a great little Farmer's Market about 11 minutes down the road. There is plenty of wood for sale around there. Staff was friendly, and even though the park was full, at no time did it feel crowded. It's a place we'll definitely camp at again.
Papiya Sharmin
Nice place to explore, u can do boating, fishing kayaking and lot of activities
Jerry Lathem
The park has four camp grounds, A through D. A and B are recently reworked and have level concrete pads and full hookups. C and D have not been updated and are mostly unlevel and short. They have electric and water. The water is located on the road and you will need around 50' of hose is you want to hookup. It is a beautiful park with lots of hiking and a new 1.5 mile walk/bike trail. There is a swimming pool, $5 per person. Camp pricing is tiered with discounts for in-state and sr citizens.
Shannon Hickman
If Cedar Falls is flowing it's totally worth almost dying on the way back up lol... it's steep but totally doable.
Brent Hardin
Beautiful Place. One day was not enough time to see everything. Going back and taking my family! Just beautiful!
Pamela Miller
Cannot describe in words..beautiful..the lodge was nice but wouldn't stay there again..walls too thin and we got a 1st floor room. The people walking around above us sounded like horses walking about. But the food and staff were wonderful. Would recommend. We will be back but maybe get a cabin next time.
Leydi Munoz
I really love this place! Is definitely one of my favorites places to visit...There are endless of things to do:Hiking, going for a walk, camping... it is just beautiful! You will not regret coming to this place...#Arkansas #NaturalState #PettyJeanMtn #
Suzanne Croslin
Absolutely gorgeous! Leaves are turning for the fall. Nice park. Lovely drive.
Presas95
Great experience, very beautiful sights along with great hiking trails.
M. A. Malbrough
Had a great time! Weather was just right. Beautiful scenery. Leaves weren't quite to the colorful stage. But a few were.
Wally and Barbara Upton
Most people from Arkansas has never been to Petit Jean Mountain but you have a lot of people from other states,I think it is the most beautiful thing in Arkansas it will always be a five star.
Jeana Caywood
This is a place I'd be happy to visit again!
Jesse N
This place is awesome every time. All different length hikes for all kinds of people of all ages. There are also many lodges, camping, etc...
Gürbey Demirtürk
Highly recommended for picnic, hiking, biking and more. It is also close to car museum and Rockefeller Institute.
Devin Kaatz
The park interpreters Jake and Breck did a great job, with the classes, and my kids had so much fun.
The cabin we had was small but was nice. (I think there are other options).
Wesley Wiggins
Amazing views of river valley. Although the waterfall was just a trickle the hike was still amazing!!!
kc5vya
This is really a beautiful park they have put a lot of work and effort into making it beautiful and very nice for the general public. It's a great place to camp and enjoy the scenery. To hike and bike on the wonderful trails.
midnight rider
There's nothing better than an Arkansas State Park. The interpreters are top-notch all their programs are great this is little heaven on EarthA0

I loved this park. There was so much to do and the trails were beautiful. We went to see the waterfall but we didn't take into consideration the lack of rainfall...there was not much to see.
Pete Genesis
Really enjoyed the trail to the Rock House Cave. Don't miss it!

I camped out in a yurt here, and the entire process, from reserving our yurt to checking in and out, was a breeze! I developed a cold while we were there, resulting in us leaving in the middle of the night, and the clerks were understanding, sweet, and still refunded our deposit. The trails and views were lovely, and the entire Park was clean, peaceful, and exactly what we needed for a getaway. We plan on returning.
Olivia Killebrew

Love Petit Jean! Everything you could ask for: water, excellent views, caves, cabins, lodge, pavillions, many trails, and waterfalls. Campgrounds and a visitor center with a new one center in construction now.

A great evening with the love of my life enjoying the Saharan sun set. 30 years ago we stood on the same spot not knowing 4 years later life would move us to this beautiful state. God is indeed good.
Billy Oxley

Sarah Ouellette
Beautiful state park. Nice walking trails and beautiful waterfall. Perfect way to end the day, stop for dinner at the Mather lodge.
Gregorio Alejandro-479
Reservations we're not made so we were put in the over flow. And we were able to pick our own spot, very nice view of the lake. Also the overflow area had no bathrooms & only has 2 30amp plugs. The next day I found out that they had a campsite available and was able to move into it. It was closer to the bathroom and the electric was a 30amp & a double plug 110. Was very happy with both spots.

Was visiting the area on a road trip and had heard there were some nice waterfalls to photograph in the park. We walked the park for a while, and went out to see the falls but sadly the weather had been dry recently and the falls had very little water running over them. If your planning to visit for the falls, you might want to call ahead and check the status.
The park was peaceful and not overly crowded, with plenty of parking. Despite the lack of water at the falls we enjoyed our visit. The trails were well maintained and nicely paved, with some of them being elevated wood planks. There was plenty of seating at overlook areas which made great places to stop and take in the scenery.
Charlotte Young
Very nice park very clean and kept nice plenty of things for children to do
Azmo
Nice park, very clean and great trails.
Jonathan Aguirre
It's an amazing trail, easily enjoyable by beginning to skilled hikers.

Each October they have what is called Senior American Week. This is where seniors 55 years and older gather for a fun filled three or four days.
All the activities are put on by the Rangers and park personnel. We have guided hiking, cooking classes on making various deserts, Dutch Oven cooking. Lectures on the Native Americans that inhabited the land long before the white man, what they had to eat and how they either cooked, killed their food or trapped it.
It is a fun filled three or four days camping trip. We already have our reservation for next year. Next year's Senior week will be October the 15 through the 17th, maybe 18th. If you are interested in coming next year you need to call NOW and make your reservations for the park fills up quickly for this event.
Just had our first Senior America Week this week, October 11 thru 15th since October of 2019 due to Covid 19. What a great time.
For those that are familiar with Petit Jean camp grounds, remember section "B" how rough, rutty and almost impossible to navigate? Well, that's all changing. That whole area has been ripped up and out for a complete makeover. Everything will be nice concrete parking for RV's, sewer, water, electricity the whole nine yards. I spoke with the construction superintendent and he told me that they are hoping for a January 1st competition date weather permitting.
I will add three photos that I took of the construction.
John Manfred

A surprisingly scenic park for camping and hiking, or to stay in the beautiful historic lodge, with it's exposed log beams, rustic furniture, stone fireplaces, and restaurant.

Tom Marnocha
Mathers Lodge is beautiful. Great location for enjoying the outdoors. Rooms are minimalist focused (queen bed and compact bathroom … 10’ x 10’
Biggest negative is the restaurant. No food for a vegan. Vegetarians will also be challenged. Lots of traditional fried food. No fruit to be found anywhere. If you’re healthy eating focused, bring food.
Upside … restaurant staff is outgoing, friendly and knowledgeable.
Alpha Koki Jr
Great park lots to do. All different hiking levels to challenge beginners to advanced. Beautiful views you can drive too. More food options and bathrooms would be a plus.
Tina Ford
Beautiful. Quiet. Our stay was great, people at the lodge were helpful and very courteous. Can't wait to go back again.
Joseph Mahoney
I love this place! So does everyone who has ever been here. It just gets more busy every year. That's the only problem.
Adam Helsper
I am now a huge fan of this state park. I'm from Missouri and wasn't much in Arkansas but I do realize now that Arkansas has some really beautiful places. I was there for business but I will definitely come back on my own time and would love to do some fishing. I highly recommend that anybody is visiting Arkansas go to Petit Jean State Park

Beautiful place. It is well maintained and clean. The hiking trails are wonderful. However many of the camp sites have too many trees and it is difficult to get a large travel trailer into them.
Gregory Alexander

The next day we moved to a main site a walk from the restrooms not a drive, hehe.

I would say the water fall is my favorite. It's fun too. My wife and I both have been going for over 35 years. I would take the 7 hallows trails now it's an amazing hike not to hard. Hey please to stop along the way. Both of the trails I've mentioned are about 3 hours long. Take your backpack with supplies. Hope enjoy your day

One of the most gorgeous state parks in Arkansas. Trails and look offs for everyone of every ability. Beautiful boardwalk for wheelchairs and scooters or short trails with benchs for elderly or those of us with copd. Kids love it and is a historic and educational hands on place. Would recommend a must on everyone's bucket list
