Reviews of Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park
Ethem Coskun
Great museum and one of the must visit places in Las Vegas I would say. You can information of how Vegas was first established in the desert. And the well preserved artifacts from those years were worth to see. We tried to put ourselves in those peoples' place where they survived in the desert and tried to establish a civilization. No water, no electricity.. tough times.. Admission is 3 dollars per person ( December 2022). There is also a small souvenir shop inside. Parking is free.
Jasmine Johnson
We enjoyed this museum and historical building site.
Adequate parking area, and friendly staff on site. Open Tues-Sat, 8-4ish. Admission fee required, small gift store and some light snacks available for purchase. Public restrooms for visitors to this state park.
Indigenous artifacts, history of the fort and adobe structure. Informative 15 minute video that can be watched, in their small theatre area. Other Las Vegas historical information about the beginning settlers who came to the Las Vegas valley area starting in the 1800's.
A nice way to spend the morning or afternoon.
Dena Jones
This is an amazing historical place and I am surprised that there weren't many more visitors. It's only 3 dollars to go and see a slice of history and there is plenty of parking. The gift shop is cute and filled with all kinds of fun facts about the place. Shelly the turtle is adorable and the fish pond is a nice touch. Plenty of picnic tables to sit and take a look back into history.
Chance Eads
An amazing historic location. You can spend a while walking around enjoying the scenery and there is a lot you can learn about Las Vegas here. If I am not mistaken it is the oldest or one of the oldest buildings in Las Vegas!
C Hed
Quite an interesting state park right near the downtown area. The staff was SUPER friendly and was excited to show us around. It’s amazing to think that just about 100 years ago, Las Vegas was still just a very small settlement and has exploded in what it is today. Worth a visit.
Sherri C.
This is where Vegas began. Super visitors center and museum. The oldest standing structure in all of Nevada is STILL here. Friendly and informed staff. Great gift shop too! Not far from the Neon Museum, and right next to the Natural History museum.
Christine Barajas
Historical site located in a sprawling city. The entrance is $3 and the oldest Vegas building built in 1855 is located here. You'll find many artifacts and learn a bit of the history of the valley. Well worth the trip.
Robert M.003
Go back in time in the middle of a sprawling city! You will find out what Las Vegas was like before the casinos, hotels, and traffic. $3 for entry. Free parking. Lots information packed in a small place at the visitor center including old pictures, miniature models, tools, and much more. Make sure to see a wonderfully made video about the history. When you step outside you will see remains of the old fort, wagons, an adobe building, walls, and a creek. They also have a nice gift shop. Check it out!
Brian Cotter
Really well done historic park right on Las Vegas Blvd. We were impressed immediately with how well the history was presented in the displays. There is a really great video as well.
The park rangers were very welcoming and informative.
Nicholas McLaughlin
Great piece of history that unfortunately seems missed by both locals and visitors. Admission is $3. Parking is plentiful either on the east side of the entrance or at the adjacent Heritage Park (your car will be safe here).
Both inside and outside there are wonderful displays of artifacts, informative plaques/videos, etc. This is also a tranquil spot with the small stream running through when you need a break from walking.
Don Finney
Very nice historic park. I did a blacksmith class that was amazing and well done. They were also offering a dutch oven cooking class that looked really fun. Check their website for the class offerings.
ismail arslangiray
It is a great history. Get ready to learn about Las Vegas and how it got started.
Town Traveller
Only $3 with plenty of history about the early days of Las Vegas. The staff are really nice and helpful too!
Tracy Sahleen
Such a truly interesting place to experience. So much more goes into the history of the area, then I knew before I visited.
A great little film and the still have part of the original fort
Lada Plihalova
It's a small place but very interesting if you like to know about local history. They have nice artefacts in the main info center and also possibility to see 20minute movie with the earliest history of this place. Than you can go explore the farm. I liked it, because so far I always heard history from the Boulder dam (Hoover dam) building, but roots are stretching far beyond this.
Sheila Keast
So much history within the Vegas valley ... I can't imagine what the pioneers went through they had to be incredibly strong !! A small museum but definitely worth a visit !!
Efraim Petel
While it is a small place, it is very educational. We watched the indoor displays and walk in the outdoor area. Well maintained and important to understand the history of the Las Vegas history.
Kerry Coyne
Really cool to stand where vegas started. History in museum was cool and informative. To think there used to be an oasis and natural springs just seems strange in vegas now. Some of the original structures are there. I thought it was worth seeing. Would have been nice to see more of the buildings and original structures
Predrag Ilic
Where Las Vegas began... is the sign that greets those who wish to see this monumental structure. On its own it is nothing special but when introduced to history and importance of the place for what the city of Las Vegas is today, it is more than worth knowing.
Omar 90s
Probably on of the most underrated places to go in vegas, people need to go there!! It’s amazing, full with history and a wonderful staff very friendly and knowledgeable. I had a great time of my own, taking pictures and watching the 10+ video they tour you about the general history of las vegas valley. The admission is just $3 dollars, very affordable, buy a book or a souvenir while being there, support the cause. Btw follow me on instagram @omarenergyphoto
Jeff Vahala
Neat little state park talks allot of history of Vegas! $3 park fee! It's real big but very interesting!
Don Tidwell
Must see for vegas history fans (and Fallout fans)
Karen Yau
The Fort was small but it was situated in the middle of the city. I enjoyed learning about the history of how Las Vegas was founded through the exhibition, 20 minute video, and exploring what remained of the Fort. There was a blacksmith section in the Fort where blacksmith classes are available at certain times of the year.
Larry Kuperman
Everyone coming to Las Vegas whether as a visitor or a resident should visit the fort to get a sense of our history, of how Las Vegas came to be. You can take in the experience in an hour or less, including the movie, but it will change your perspective forever. Great place to visit.
Zappy Oak
The old Mormon Fort is honestly one of the best places to go when exploring the great desert of las Vegas. A ticket can costs about $2 to $3 per person or if you have a kids that is under 12 years old they can come in free of charge. And sometimes the Museum hold events, like a blacksmithing class or a scavenger hunt for little kids. And if you want to buy something there is a gift shop and if you are still curious they have a movie running for free about the history of the Fortress in the museum. I highly recommend this Museum to anyone in the area.
Baby Stewey
Nice historic site minutes from Fremont madness. Very helpful staff, stuff for kids to do. They offer blacksmithing classes once a month on a coal forge!
Adam Norton
There's great information here on the history of the Las Vegas area and the staff are friendly and happy to answer your questions. They have models as well as the restored grounds you can see from the road. I was expecting a big hike across the property but it's really not big you can go through it in 30 minutes or really check out the details and spend an afternoon there
brenda crismon (MadeOdd)
Very interesting part of Vegas history. It's self guided, you can walk around and check it out for as long as you like. There is information posted thruout the grounds, and a 20 min movie about the first settlement in Vegas. I was told that guided tours are available as well. It's worth the $3 admission to checkout!
Sherri
Hidden gem in Las Vegas. Clean, significant place in Las Vegas history and super nice staff. $1.00 admission - can’t beat that! Do yourself a favor and spend 30 minutes of your day to check it out.
michelle nelson
This is where Vegas started. Lots of history in short video. Small museum with gift shop. Enjoyed sitting next to spring listening to the birds. Picnic area under shade trees (take something to cover table). Needed to get out of quarantine and this was the perfect place to go.
Devin Moore
Great place to learn about the early history of Las Vegas. Can be a quick visit (30 mins) or you could spend over 2 hours soaking it all in. Our kids love going, we go once a year.
Ken and Alicia Lund
Tons of interpretive signs and exhibits make this a very worthwhile stop in Las Vegas for a history enthusiast, especially a pioneer, western, or Mormon history lover. I enjoyed my visit.
MR. Onizuka
I cannot speek about the museum itself, but I took the best blacksmithing class here and wow. I would take more than one class if they didn't full up almost immediately! And it's verry far from the south side of town. Please hold some classes in the south end please 🙏 …
Matt Wilsey
Its a nice place to visit. The Staff are very friendly. If you like old City History of Vegas, just go there!
Justin McIntosh
One of the smaller state parks, but the ranger on hand was very informative and nice. The ruins are well preserved, and give a nice glimpse back to life from the 1860s. The desert tortoise was a great touch!
ashley goddard
This place is a hidden gem. For a small 3 dollar admission fee, it's a good way to spend about 1.5 hours. When you first go inside, definitely ask about the scavenger hunt. It's really fun and you end up learning things you thought you already knew. There's so much to see here, including the oldest building in las vegas, and they have a koi pond! At the end of your trip, you can pick from their assortment of moderately priced souvenirs. (My son and niece picked a bunch of different rocks and a bracelet and some flavored honey sticks) We will definitely visit again! 😊👌👍
Carol Ann
If you are a local, you should check the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort out. I have lived in Nevada for about 20 years and enjoy learning history about my adopted state. Also a "to do" item for tourists. A nice break from the casinos just off Las Vegas Boulevard. Maybe take the Old Fort & Mob Museum in the same day. Both are interesting & worth checking out!
VaLon Lee
Very interesting place about the history is Las Vegas before the gambling came. Had lots of cool history.
billie bakhshi
Nice place to learn about the origins of Las Vegas, and history of the area before it became Las Vegas.
Philip Smith
Great spot to check out for an hour and see the humble beginnings of Las Vegas
Lori Moye
Take a step back in time and visit this hidden gem in the middle of downtown Vegas. Interesting history of the Vegas that once was. Free on site parking and only $3 to enter the grounds.
Michael Lyman
Great piece of Las Vegas history located right downtown. Lots to learn about in a nicely maintained state park with friendly staff. There is a small entrance fee of $3.
Anthony Boggs
Took my young daughter. Was most interesting. Provided an excellent window into the local past and the people who loved here and came here. I highly recommend it.
Sarah Russell
I liked it for its historical value. The Visitors Center has a 15 minute video that adds a good deal of onsite in how Las Vegas came to be.
Jason Deuce Brandt
Wow this place was amazing. It was truly a humbling experience seeing what ot was like to like without air conditioning or washing machines!
Niel
Really cool place to visit if your in Vegas
Nathan Lunt
Definitely a neat little museum. Lots of interesting little tidbits about the beginnings of Las Vegas.
Guy Caldwell
Learned alot of early Las Vegas history. Great museum and only $3 to get in.
Kelley Ramsey
It's a gem! Where Las Vegas began. Lots of interesting history and a nice way to spend a couple of hours.
Hamid Mustafa
Nice theme to see how Vegas was in past. Would recommend to visit.
Jeannine Swallie
Wonderful place for kids to learn about Vegas history, and to run around just being kids!
Joseph Kelly
A lot of history here. The war memorial is such a special place. I visit every day now, since I am found it.
Mumble “Mumblestein” Stein
An important and interesting historical site from very early Las Vegas. It's a really well presented and maintained facility. A lot of new work is being done to the grounds that improve the experience. I look forward to visiting in the future. A great value at 3 bucks too (2021 dollars).
Mindy Shipley
This is an interesting stop with the history of the beginnings of Las Vegas. I would have liked to see more signage outside telling me what I was looking at (there are trees and other structures) but the employees there are knowledgeable and can answer any questions.
Erin B
The Old Mormon fort was awesome! Lots of fun activities and things to see about the first settlers in Las Vegas with a minimal admission price. We went for the Pioneer Day celebration and took our three young children and they very much enjoyed it; it is a great visit for anyone looking to learn more about the city's history!
Laura Dixon
Great museum and friendly knowledgeable staff. Great to find the history behind the origins of Las Vegas and learn about the Native Americans and Euro American settlers.
Bruce “Kittylicking69” Mac Elrath
Excellent state park. First settlement in Las Vegas Nevada. Educational experience, nice displays of frontier life. Actual first building! Nice picnic tables and shade cover. $3 entrance fee. Kids under 12 years are free. Original Mormon Church Fort.
dana demore
Good museum if you want to learn about Las Vegas history. Great facility and friendly staff. Pleasantly surprised. Definitely recommend!
James Harman
Fully explains how Las Vegas was founded and the people involved. The visitor center tells you What to expect when you get to the outside exhibits and has a good film. Plan to spend a good hour or more.
Susan Shapiro
Loved it. Very interesting to learn about the beginnings of The Meadow, Las Vegas
Ruth Jones
A little known Museum in Las Vegas. Very well done! Starts off with an informative series of displays and a great movie detailing the story of the birth of Las Vegas dating back to the 1800's. The outdoor are includes parts if the original structure of the Mormon Fort. There are wagons and lots of tools reminiscent of Las Vegas of yesteryear. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Judy Buzzetti-Brooke
The history of this Adobe is what makes this place so special. It's basically the birth place of Las Vegas!
M Urb (Nick)
It is $3 for entry, and it has super rich history.
david edwards
Great early history of the valley, life was tough in those early days. No glitz, but very interesting for the curious.
Donna Nicholson
This is a nice historical site to visit to understand the origins of Las Vegas. The museum has interesting information and is laid out well. It is also only $1 entry for adults which is very reasonably priced. The fort itself isn't much to look at but I enjoyed imagining what it would've been like in 1855.
Allan Rogers
This is the place! Great location where Las Vegas began. It's not all original since so many people have occupied the space but they've got some great displays and the oldest building in Southern Nevada. Underrated place where a ton of interesting history happened.
Debra Davis
The staff make you want to learn. Super laid back clean and friendly . A taste of older times
Tyler McArthur
This was a fun place to soak up some Las Vegas history you don't always hear about. It definitely filled in some gaps in my knowledge about the history of the area. The movie was interesting, and the displays informative. Me and my parents walked around the old fort afterwards for about 15 minutes. I'd definitely recommend it if you want a change of scenery from the Strip.
Janice Hill
This was a very impressive slice of history, hiding right in the middle of downtown Vegas! We arrived early on a Saturday morning and the place was a ghost town! The rangers were waiting and ready for us. Ranger Carson gave us a great tour, he covered the history of Natives in the Valley, the arrival of early settlers, the development of the fort, wagon train routes, and the early work that led Las Vegas to become what it is today! We definitely won't forget the story of the First Lady of Las Vegas, Helen J. Stewart! For a small footprint, this State Park packs a lot of history in. Plan a little extra time and ask about making an Adobe brick or the Dutch Oven cooking competitions! Old Mormon Fort is certainly worth the price of admission!
Angel Rodriguez
A wonderful museum that holds great performances/demonstrations.
Cristianna Nelson
Was pretty cool to learn about Vegas before it was The Vegas! My dad grew up going here so it was neat for him to take me back and show me around.
Stacey Reisch
It was fun to wander the Old Fort. There weren't any docents to explain the fort. It was a self guided tour & theater with a video.. There was a list of items to locate throughout the visitor center & fort like a treasure hunt. Once it was completed & turned in a prize was given.
yuliya jawale
Small museum about history of Las Vegas.
Matthew Wyman
Its a nice historic park that has a nice video of some of the early founders of Las Vegas. Only costs a dollar so great price! There isn't much to see though and the outside exhibits could use more signs. They are just about to open a house that has some of the original wall of the fort so I'm sure I'll go back and update my review.
Dawne P
It was a very enjoyable experience. Not only is it $2 to get in, unless you're handicapped which I am so it was free, it's very informative. You just have to take your time and look at everything. We stopped at a sandwich shop and brought our lunch there which we ate in a grassy shaded area outside and that was also very enjoyable with the breezes. No stress, no crowds, no long lines and again it is handicap accessible. They even have electric wheelchairs that you can use. I just happen to have brought my own. LOL
bryan wimmer
Awesome little museum - love the use of mirrors to display the upper areas of the fort's tower. When we went, there was some sort of blacksmithing class going on.
Benjamin Harker
We thought the video was fun explaining the early history of Vegas, and we ate lunch at some picnic tables. Entry was a few bucks. The displays were interesting but a little underwhelming.
Ryan Shoemaker
I've been here twice and both times it was a great experience.
Trenton Poulson
Nice family friendly place to go and learn a little Las Vegas history. It's not too big and strollers are best with bigger wheels due to the gravel. But we did fine with our stroller.. don't let that steer you away from this place!
Erik Marshall
Blacksmithing class in the middle of the week is a great way to expand your life.
Bon Manhkong
The birth place of Las Vegas! Very interesting...
Pam Boling
This truly is a hidden gem in Las Vegas. Many people - especially tourists - don't know about it. There is so much to learn here about the history of Las Vegas. If you love learning, I highly recommend visiting the Mormon Fort. Even if you aren't a history buff, just seeing the artifacts, the museum, and the fort itself is worth the trip. For $1/person, how can you go wrong? I must say, it's probably the best $2 I've spent in a long time for my son and me.
Bryan Rantala
Friendliest staff ever. Really good history experience. Come see the oldest standing structure in Vegas.
Rob Graham
I didn't know this place was here until I got a state park pass. This place has so much history and its located right on the strip. The recreated version of the creek that once flowed is a nice touch.
Anupa D.
A small museum with lots of information, grounds maintained like 'the past', a garden with old plants including mesquite's, several varieties of willows and cotton. The female ranger knew lots of information to share. The bathrooms have cool glass tiles that let in the light without a loss in privacy. Tiny gift shop has plenty of items for sale. If you have a couple of days in Vegas, you should drop in to it
Ashley Renee Notte
The Las Vegas Old Mormon Fort is amazing it is old and has the greatest things in there from long ago. You should get your parents to get them to take you! They have real stage couches, real guns and everything! Its amazing, i wish I was young again sometimes.
Jerry Larsen
Very interesting place, site of the first permanent European settlement in the vegas valley. Small state park in the city limits of vegas. Not much of the original buildings left, but the did a good job making it close to original as possible. Interesting exhibits and displays
Dan Barletta
Cool historic look at early Las Vegas settlement.carson was very helpful and informative. Watched the 20 minute movie and walked the site in about an hour.nice little gift shop and a good section of books
Globe Trotter
I good piece of Vegas history and its beginning. Worth couple bucks entrance and an hour or so around. Close to downtown, the Museum of Natural History and the Neon Museum.
Brent Leavitt
Had a great time learning the history of Vegas. Worth a trip for anyone coming to visit this town that likes history. Little does most people know that Vegas wasn't always the gambling town that it is now.
Erik McKelvey
Glad this has been preserved. Awesome history.
Ben Nicholes
Very friendly staff. More artifacts than I expected. Interactive activities for the kids, nice shaded picnic tables. A history of Las Vegas that is not well known. Nice state park.
Paris Loonsfoot
Cute but very cold🥶 this night 😑 …
Forest Platt
Interesting place to visit if you're into history. Visit the location where Las Vegas started and learn how and why it grew to be the city it is today. It's a must see for Fallout fans.
Karen Kohl
Lovely visitor shop/ museum....a great addition since I first visited Mormon fort 35 yrs ago! I will go back for a return visit!
Sundarah Hammontree
The oldest standing Vegas building was amazing and so was the history of the area. Great staff.
GeorgiaGurl CampLyfe
Nice small park for kids
Emily Chang
If you have a bit of imagination and time, a place to reflect on the history of Nevada and Las Vegas. Knowledgeable staff. Small interpretive center and remnants of the various functions the fort served.
Jacob Lundquist
Cool to visit a part of Las Vegas' long history. They have re-created the fort and have some of the original pieces. It was an interesting stop on our way through town!
Tricia Toner
It was only a dollar per person it's not the biggest place but it's pretty cool to see the walls of the fort and when I went they had art projects for my smaller daughter and a blacksmith for my son it was a very nice afternoon
Ted Prohowich
With all of the development in Las Vegas, the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort has taken many forms since 1855. The displays are very educational and you get a perspective you get on the survival of Native Americans and colonists. The starts of a town as a way stop between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. Its survival through the depression. Its use to test concrete for Hoover Dam. To being in the midst of a major metropolitan area.
Aaron Bell
Interesting piece of las vegas history.
K Darrow
Cool place. Julie Farkas can hook you up with medical supplies.
Jacob Sconyers
Well curated and interesting historical interpretation in the visitor's center, but limited historical stuff to see on the grounds. Except for a couple of walls in one building, everything was rebuilt for tourists in the late 20th century.
Rodney Hill
My family and myself had a most wonderful experience, the volunteers were so informative and kind, my ancestors were pioneers and taking part of the anniversary was splendid, their is a park next to the fort for lunch and to sit in the shade, for me my heart was full in reading all the material about the displays
Chris Kirschman
Very interesting history on Las Vegas and the fort. Artifacts, short movie, models of time periods, knowledgeable staff. All for $1 per person.
Michael de Lange
Great resource to learn a little of Las Vegas's history and see it's oldest building. Admission is only $3. It's a steal. Check it out
Raymond Souza
A incredible landmark never realize how much history Vegas really had outside of the area and I am credible price

Dante Autry
Great place to stock up on medical supplies and Julie farkas is so nice
zeke Espejo
In a city known for entertainment of shows and gambling and many other modern distractions, this hiistoric place brings you back to the start of vegas and before. Life was ruff and simple. Take time to find the hiden yems of this place.
David Meyer
It's an interesting bit of history that most people are probably not familiar with. Displays in the newer modern building are well done. The outdoors area and old buildings are a bit sparse.
Tony Fang (tf245yay)
Place definitely has historical significance but admission was a tad expensive.
Maranda Martin
I took my 3 kids, and we absolutely loved it, we found out from family later, that we are related to Rose Warren, so that was awesome we read about the settlers, did a tour and loved every second thank you,
John Landry
I'm a history but.... So glad I got to see this place.
Sherylee Portrey
$3 entry fee for 12+. It was fun to see how Vegas got started and how they used to live in the mid 1800s.
Cheryl Tong
Not much to see, but the staff there were lovely! A nice piece of Nevada history for those who are interested, and the price is very reasonable
Jimmy Hendon
Interesting if you're into history. Never knew it existed. Also never knew that Vegas had a natural water supply 100+ years ago.

The Followers of the Apocalypse are really helping the people of New Vegas through this ancient fort. Surprised it still stood after the Great War.
(Fallout: New Vegas reference)

This is a great piece of pre-Las Vegas history that not many people know about, and it's only a dollar to get in, and free for 12 and under!
