Reviews of Ouabache State Park
This is a great park for a day or a week. Tons of things to do. They have around 10 miles of easy to moderate hiking trails, a fishing lake, swimming beach, campground, small herd of bison, and tons of other things to do. A short distance outside the main entrance is White Bridge picnic area and public access.
Beautiful park. I enjoyed the 6 mile trail 5 park today.
The bad: The trail was very muddy but not atypical for early spring. They do have a lot of loose rock on the trail so the problem areas are not bottomless quagmires. Sturdy hiking shoes or boots can get through but you may get wet. I recommend the park put some board walks in a few areas like we see at other parks in the state.
The good: great mix of timber, creeks and wildlife. If you need some pine tree therapy, this is a great trail and park for you. The camping facilities look nice too.
Such a wonderful place to camp. Our cat particularly loved exploring the nearby woods. Lots of locals come by for lunch or just to look out over the river. Very relaxing space. We will definitely be back.
This is one of the smaller state parks but I really liked the camping and the size of the camp sites. The bison exhibit was interesting. The park also has a nice paved bicycle trail.
Nice trails and decent campgrounds. Not the best place for kayaking or swiming. Lots of Canadian geese and their fecal offerings all over beach shore. Go for the bison, hiking, and smaller crowds.
Great park! Camping was wonderful, park was clean and the bison exhibit was wonderful! Campground B playground wasn't the best but other playgrounds were nice. Shower/bathhouse was clean and water pressure was good.
Very beautiful and relaxing place! Whether it's fishing, walking trails, paddle boats, or family get together... its Amazing!
Lovely place to walk and take your four legged kids for exercise. Camping is good but has very limited beach area at the lake (it's a basic lake, not super clear and small swimming area with no dogs allowed) and no camp store. The main draw are the trails, the Bison, fishing and the Fire tower. Overall a place that I love to visit as it's literally in our neighborhood. Especially beautiful in the Fall.
Prior to visiting I had never heard of this park and I only lived 30 minutes away from it. It is a beautiful location with nice hiking trails and scenery. Being able to see the bison up close was pretty cool too :) **definitely wasn’t a fan of the restrooms. They were similar to outhouses, but large toilets above a big hole in the ground and definitely could use cleaning.
Cozy and pretty. There's a nice little lake for swimming, a fire tower for climbing, nice bike paths and American Bison which were honestly my favorite part. The trail to see the bison goes all the way around their pen, so many good angles from which to view them.
What a great park! Had our first visit today and were really impressed! See the bison, take a nature hike around the lake, eat picnic! The facilities that were open were very clean and well stocked. Will definitely visit again!
Update - September 2022, the baby bison is adorable. The bison feeding program is fantastic, so informative.
Wide open spaces, old growth trails, camping, bison, and a super cool fire tower. Worth the trip could spend all day here.
First visit here. Definitely not the luxury of Summit but they provide a small beach area that was pretty nice, a bathroom with pit type toilets and outdoor shower at the beach. There are several trails to walk including one that takes you by bison. There is a fire lookout tower that you can climb and several areas for fishing. They also have several paddle boats to rent.
Well maintained park and campground ; clean bathrooms (at least in our midweek stay). Very nice paved, mostly level bike path in the park leading to another trail. Interesting bison exhibit… try the CCC challenge!
Interesting park which was once a CCC camp. Easy trails for hiking and a decent campground. Be sure to check out the Buffalo and fire tower.
The grounds are beautiful! We took a short hike around the bison enclosure and saw the new baby!
Excellent place to camp. With both open and wooded lots to choose from. Plenty of trails to hike. You can enjoy a stroll around the Bison enclosure or venture up the fire tower. They even have a small lake to take a dip in or a ride around in a canoe!
This is an excellent place for me to get some trail running in. The mostly flat 6 mile trail goes around the property. There are other trails , but I love trail 5. There are some beautiful scenic spots around the small lake to relax or have lunch. There is a beach and non wake boat rental. But, did not observe since the summer season is over. There is also a campground which looks nice and peaceful. Also a tall tower to climb, but not for the whimpy. Would highly recommend.
We are here working in Indiana and came to visit this state park 45 min drive but so worth it!!! Beautiful park clean, The bison are awesome!!! Also this place would be sweet to camp at. They have campgrounds a lake to swim canoe take your boat and also you can rent paddle boats;!!! If you're in the area I would recommend visiting this park. Absolutely beautiful. We came to see the bison climb some fire towers and hike!
The campground was well maintained and the sites my group had were paved, level, and easy to park. There were several playgrounds for kids. The park has 10 or so bison in a 20 acre enclosure... that was very cool! The park has a fire tower which was closed for cleaning. There is a pond/lake with a walking trail around it. There is a paved bike trail trail through the park, from the campground and goes all the way into town.
The only negative - the weekend we camped was following a heavy rain, so the whole park was muddy and wet with several areas of mud/standing water on the trails.
It's so pretty. Worth the trip. If you go early enough, you don't have to pay to get in. Plus the Bison are so cute. And there is an adorable baby. 😍😍😍 There is a DNR officer there to give all kinds of info and answer any question you have. Very cool.
Great place to camp and ride bikes. It has a really nice bike trail that goes all the way into Bluffton. The Fire tower is open again. There is a nice easy path around the Bison enclosure so you can see the Bison! We don't swim in Kunkel lake but some do.
Bison!
Beautiful in the fall. Campground looks inviting.
Camped here this past weekend. This is a wonderful park. Rebecca Wynn who is the park interpretive naturalist is outstanding. She is full of energy & information. She informed us about the bison & fire tower. Saturday was full of activities. There was a Jeep show, Jeep parade, corn hole tournament, live bison feeding & trick or treating to end the day.
We will camp here again. Thank you Rebecca.
We had the Collins reunion there at the trails end today. Appreciate how clean everything was. Staff was friendly also. Thanks alot for the use of the pavilion. My sister from So.Dakota is the one that set this all up for our family,so again thanks.
Such a nice park. We really enjoyed it. I plan on going back and tent camping and trying out my kayak on the pond there and trying to catch some fish.
Great place to take the family. Kids love going up the fire tower and seeing the Bison. Nice easy trails to walk and beautiful views.
Relaxing hiking and pretty forest. Lots of wildlife, like squirrels, birds singing, moths and butterflies, some wildflowers and fungi. Very good for a relaxing hike, not too difficult. Plus the bison are really cool!
Well, it is a quaint little park with nice hiking trails and a small lake in the center. The park was "open" when I explored it, but not really open for the season. There was very few people. I looked longingly at the closed fire tower wishing that it had been open. It looked to me as though there were several facility upgrades happening...new pit toilets, spreading gravel at the campground, the fire tower itself. The American Bison were in the back pasture and were just hanging out by the fence which made for good close ups.
The trails were flat and wide and really wet and muddy in several places (luckily I was prepared with my hiking boots). The signage was good except for one crossroad where I took the wrong path and had to double back. I am interested in visiting during the late spring/early summer to see how different the park is when it turns green. Saw several downy woodpeckers, a couple nuthatches, robins, but no eagles (though a local resident told me he had seen a pair)
Great park for family, the trails are very easy to walk.. the Bisons are a real treat, they also have picnic table to sit have snacks and a lookout tower that you can actually climb and look out to see all the scenery. There is also a beach to enjoy and paddle boats. my opinion it is a fun one day get away...
A large and mostly peaceful state park. Great for families, and the occasional fisherman fishing in the lake. Plenty of parking places and many trails for those that like a walk in the woods.
It was a pretty cool place. Lots of trails but I came for the fire tower though. Was not disappointed. I'm totally going to check out the other 12 in Indiana
Great Christmas light display! They have a lot of potential and can hopefully end up being better than going to Marion!
Ouabache is a nice, small campground. Depending on when you go, the campground can be a little wet ie muddy. The bathrooms are pretty nice and clean. No campstore on site but ice and firewood are available from the campground host. They have made some improvements like the lake with a small beach, canoes/paddle boats to rent, and stocked pond (fishing license can be purchased in the naturalist office). The fire tower was recently rebuilt and is one of the few that you can go clear to the top. Taking a walk around the bison pen is a must when you visit. There is a nice paved trail you can bike. The rest of the trails, I would only venture on if the weather has been really dry! There is also a bocce(?) ball court. Enjoy!
We had a great weekend camping here even though it was muddy. We m made the best out of it. Bath houses were clean and stocked.
Awesome DNR park worth the 45 minute drive from Fort Wayne. The fire tower is cool to walk up (yes, stairs are small and steep) and the view from the tower picturesque. The bison enclosure is a close walk from the tower and bison easily seen. Well worth the drive to see a more rustic part of Indiana.
This a really nice quiet park perfect for a small get away. They offer nice camping sites. There are many local small attractions. Also in the park is a fire tower to climband live bison to watch. There are basketball, and tennis courts and a soft ball diamond. There are boat rentals and a beach. There is fishing opportunities and hiking. Nice clean park with friendly staff. Highly recommended!
Loved it all except the showers and racoons... Showers water did not drain as fast as water was coming out... The raccoons was obviously fed by campers because they was not scared of us and was joining the party. Other than that I loved it.. Friendly staff, Fire wood and ice on site. Lots to do!!
Beautiful park! Only a short visit. Not too crowded and seemed very clean!
The Lodge is a fantastic place for a Wedding Reception.
I grew up in Bluffton and always like this State Park.
Very Nice Clean and well managed. Reasonable rates. Nice Trails, Fire Tower, Bison It was a great place to stop.
Also fishing & tennis courts etc. which we did not use.
We love to be able to see native wildlife even if they are in a pen. Would like for more State Parks to do this. Would be cool to have a natural looking enclosure with black bear in it; you know not fake like the zoo.
We were able to see a baby bison during our visit. The paddleboats were enjoyable. Very pleasant environment for the kids!
Good trails to walk. Climb an old fire tower to view the area from above. Definitely love the Bison.
I wish parents would learn then teach camp etiquette. I know kids will be kids. But to ride around yelling especially at night , that was something I was taught not to do.
Love taking a small hike around the pin. Seeing nature and connecting with it is made easy and fun here. Even the drive here was wonderful!
A very beautiful, clean and relaxing state park. We enjoyed the Christmas lights and music.
Quite beautiful scenery, clean camp grounds. The DNR staff is super helpful very polite. Bison are majestic! Definitely coming back.
Alot of activities to do and places to explore the view from the town is amazing and you have to see the bison great fun for the family.
We took every day as God gave it to us, very nice campground with great hiking trails.
Love this park.. our family favorite
Seeing the bison was so cool! Trails loop and intersect a lot, so it is easy to make a hike as long as you want. Lake is pretty and the park was quiet on a weekday. Playground by the lake is nice and there are lots of picnic spots.
Great park and campground. We have done a week long camping trip here the last 3 years. Our girls love visiting the bison! On a downside - last year '2016' the pool was closed during the week for budget reasons and the fire tower was still closed for maintenance. Hopefully in 2017 these will be open. Other than that we enjoy our visits to the park.
We really love this park! But, definitely struggling this week. The man's shower house was disgusting!
Nice campground ,hot water in the shower house. Host couple was very nice and helpful . The beach are is small and clean, beautiful bike trail. Staff was friendly and helpful. First time there, we will be back !
We thought it was a very nice park. We went on a week day, not very much going on. We enjoyed the bison, the fire tower, and the somewhat small playground. Should plan ahead for fishing or hiking next time!
Nice place for a walk or swim! Plus the Buffalo are cool to check out! Only thing you have to remember is no garbage cans. So bring a bag for your trash, to take home.
Quaubache State Park is a very beautiful park that was lovely for an afternoon picnic! The grounds were well manicured, the Bisons were great to look at and the Fire Tower was busy with lots of patrons!
The local campground host cleans the bathrooms as much as they can. Thank you so much. They even was able to find my wallet as well. The park rangers don't say much but they are very friendly.
We love this park. Granddaughter loved seeing 9 Buffalo s. She enjoyed climbing the fire tower and using our binoculars to view the area. She enjoyed the playground and finding small shells by the lake. I liked seeing Blue Heron, Eagles and other birds. We trails are a great place to get exercise. We have rode our bikes in this place but not today. They offer camping and fishing. They have tennis courts and a volleyball area. Lots of places to get away for a picnic or maybe just to read and relax. It is well maintained and very peaceful. Take your family and spend the day. It is a state park so you pay $7 but so worth it. Where else can you enjoy so much for under ten dollars?
Great bike trails from Bluffton.... Fire Tower is now open. Bison grazing and sunning themselves.
Went on our first camping trip of the year. Had a great time with family ❤️☺️💙 …
It was wonderful. Attended and officiated a wedding at the lodge. Great outdoor views.😊 …
Fantastic state park! So many kinds of birds. Camp ground very clean. Only drawback, showers are cold.
Another great state park in Indiana! Where else can you see live bison in an enclosed natural habitat? Don't forget to climb up to the top of the fire tower for excellent views of the park and bison exhibit!
Awesome place to take the family! Good fishing and hiking
Used to have a pool. Pool Closed and filled in. It was always cold water anyway. Not a very warm inviting consumer friendly park. Consession and boat rental stations by lake not always staffed. No camp store for basic stuff like marshmallows, hot dogs, charcoal. They DO have firewood sold by the camp ground host. Expensive annual pass, got to carry own trash out. Campground reservations required online. Used to be first come first served. Used to be the little guy with a tent stood a chance. Now taken over by big rigs. Whole place just seems sterile compared with decades ago when I grew up there.
The pine trees were beautifully flocked with the light dusting of snow.
Very nice state park, very well maintained, family oriented, expansive, so much to explore, and do. Absolutely will be back!
I would like to see better tree trimming to facilitate camper parking and travel, removal of dangerous dead wood that could drop on campers, and an increased attention of the children's play area at campground(s) entrance.
The trails are great for walking. The tree color is spectacular right now!
This is a great place !The trails are beautiful and they also have a. Boat ramp and swimming area.We found ample places to fish during our visit.we spent the day there and already have plans to return for camping. The restrooms were clean although there were not many trash cans placed throughout the park
Great little park. It is sad the pool has closed, but the beach is nice.
It's beautiful here! The firetower was fun to climb. The Buffalo was neat minus the guy and his barking dog and the fact that the Buffalo are caged! Well maintained and clean park. We rode through campground, nice spot if for tent camping or small RV/Camper atleast for privacy! Can't wait to go again!
Beauitful place probly nicest one I've been to
Very nice, well taken care of Park, and enjoyable camping. Trails, lake, beach, boat rentals, buffalo, and more.
Awesome state park, lots to do. The bike trail is really nice, winds through the woods around the park and connects to the River Greenway in Bluffton. There's a buffalo enclosure and the fire tower, both are awesome to visit. There's a nice lake that you can rent paddle boats and (I think) canoes. All around a great park to spend the day or the weekend or even longer. Definitely one of my favorites in the area.
It's a decent state park. The buffalo and fire tower were the high lights for me . Camp sites are nice also
Always a great place to visit. We just had lunch there the other day with the grandkids. We do camp there and we love it. Lots of trails too go exploring and always friendly people. The swimming is always a great time. Recommend this state park to everyone whether it's for a day or to camp a few days.
It's a nice place to spend with the family and grandkids for fishing, camping, bike riding ,swimming and exploring the great outdoors

This park is a wonderful place to camp and hike. The trails are well maintained and easy, yet still enjoyable. Where else will you see a Bison exhibit? We saw more wildlife in this park than in any other state park we have visited, and who doesn't like to climb a fire tower?
We camped here while we did some work in town. This is an amazing park. The staff is so nice and friendly. They do a great job keeping the place really nice and clean. The trails are amazing! They have real bison to see. A really nice paved bike trail that is about 3 miles inside the park, then goes about 3 miles into town along the river. Very nice trail. There is a nice little lake with a swimming beach. Lots of nice picnic and Park areas for kids. Tons and tons of wildlife. There are shelters and lodges to have gatherings. They have a big fire tower you can climb. Bathhouses are very nice and clean with hot water. We have enjoyed our stay very much!
Great experience with the little. Me and the ol lady enjoyed it more though 🙃 the baby bison was really cute too! …
We went to check it out. We have a yearly pass to state parks and had never been there. It's small, but nice. Not too many actual bathroom's,and not sure of handicapped spaces. It's also electric only, no full hook ups and only a couple of water stations. But otherwise nice. The bison were way back in the back and only accessable with a trail and I'm handicapped.
We lived camping here. The bison exhibit was great and one came right over in front of us and seemed to be just as interested in us as we were it! Hiking was really nice and we enjoyed the paved bike trail too. I do wish there was a camp store, but the campground hosts were very helpful directing me to somewhere close to get what I was looking for.
We had a very enjoyable afternoon at the state park today. The Kids challenged themselves and climbed the fire tower after that we played at the playground, while a couple of the older boys went fishing, while the rest of us strolled along the Buffalo trail. Very clean new bathrooms
A moderate state park with a few different opportunities. The youth camp sites and RV campsites are nice. The lake it's self has a well maintained swimming area and beach that's rather small. There are a few boats you can rent. But the lake it's self is pretty swampy and over grow with algea. This is particularly bad right by the boat ramp area. The lake seems shallow enough that the water really heats up in the summer. How ever seems to be a fairly good fishing location. Every angler we saw caught something while they were there and in the course if a day we saw three people catch bass in excess of 6 pounds.
Love this place; the staff are always friendly and grounds well-maintained. There is a large variety of things to do. I love that the river greenway goes right to the park gatehouse. Love the buffalos and the fire tower.
Beautiful place!! Love the trails, the tower, the buffalo and the lake.
The park was clean & beautiful. Comfort stations clean & modern with a hand dryer that actually blew. We did the fire tower, hiked & biked. The Bocci ball court was so fun & popular that they could have used another one!
I love this part this park has so much peace to it is worth camping at the bison are beautiful it's a very good experience
My husband and I camped here for the first time. The park and facilities are great! Our dogs enjoyed our walks, too.
Thank you for doing a great job taking care of the park, so that we can all enjoy it! We'll be back.
Question . Has anyone else had odd occurances happen to them while camping in Oaubache State Park? Asking in hopes of getting some peace of mind regarding a incident back in 2016 while camping in Ouabache. I’ve got no reason to make this up also im in no way trying to give the park a bad rep. We were woken up to an unknown creature sniffing our tent corner to corner ~3:30am. Can anyone email me at geraldtreee @ gmail . C O M with first hand accounts of sighting large animal/s other than the bison? Nobody was injured infact nobody even saw a thing besides one of our beds were pulled at the head of the bed and dragged down which made my daughter spring jump into my lap . Thankful we werent nabbed up that night, seriously. Anyways the next morning our neighboring campsite were just as eager to get the hell outta there as we were. Requesting genuine inquiries only . . . . . . . . . . . . . . much appreciated
Lots of improvements done at this unique state park. One of the few original fire towers of Northern Indiana. Bison ranch. Beach and island. Great car camping options and clean facilities
Great place and even better camping & summer stuff.
Always a great place to take the family! They also have a new calf you should go check out. Born a little over 2 weeks ago.
Nice and peaceful, however the raccoons are serious it you turn your back to some food it will be taken. There very brave even with our german shepherd trying to get them they still kept coming in numbers, we had at least 5 coons surrounding us. At dusk they came out like clock work
The host campers were extremely friendly and personable. The campground was very clean. It was quiet and not too busy. The trails weren't as adventurous as some other state parks we've been to, but that's the only reason for a 4 and not a 5. Thanks Ouabache!
First time here. Very very nice park with camping.. canoe and no engine boats.. fishing.. biking.. walking trails. Cabins to rent and all in woods. Guess there is a pool too but i ran out of time. Friendly and helpful staff!!
Small but beautifully well maintained state park. The woman at the front guard shack was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Looking forward to going back. (How did I not know about this little gem!?)
Not much privacy in the camping area. Seeing the Buffalo was pretty neat. Lake is small but nice for swimming and peddleboats. Loved the fire tower. Super cool learning the history also. Never found a swimming pool like I seen in other comments? Wouldn't go back though.
We went to see the buffalo and walk the trails. This place is great to get out and see nature and go up the tower. The kids love it. Just recently we went to see the Christmas light displays. This was the first time we went. It was beautiful. They had a display at the tower that was set up to Christmas music. Flashing to the beat. It was incredible.
Small state park, well maintained. Bison exhibit is unique. Nice quiet campground although the shower houses are outdated. Campground A is a better choice than Campground B.
It was a free day me and the family and I loved it!!
Fun place and for a small park; lots of good things to do and see!!
Love love love this state park. Endless trails it seems like, a nice playground for the littles, a beautiful pond to fish in, and cool Buffalo to take a look at. Always enticed when we come here; also makes a fantastic place for photoshoots!
Clean, good restrooms and showers, good electricity for campers. No water hookups at the sites. Buildings are in need of repair (roof moss covered, doors damaged by animals, poor lighting.) In spite of that, good shelter from the elements and great fireplaces to ward off the chill.
I love the place but we were there for a friends funeral that made us not so happy 💔 …
Bisons were awesome the kiddo loved em
Nice state park with a little bit of everything. Nice paved bike trail and other great trails. No rugged trails, but it is in a very flat part of the state. Buffalos and a small lake with a beach for swimming and a few places to fish.
Enjoyed the evening with friends on a visit. Campfire, food. LIFE.
Nice areas for camping. I enjoy taking a walk on the trails and just relaxing.
Beautiful park been going for years. Sad to see the pool gone.
Have been going to Ouabache State Park for 30 years. Great park for camping, swimming, fishing, running. Or just come and see the Buffalo.
Pros: Nice trails, bison exhibit, campground A lot sizes, ice availability close for good price.
Cons: Raccoons are everywhere after 9pm, if close to forest. Water and beach are not worth going for. We enjoy nice water since we are from Michigan and a big reason for the negative review was the water. With such a good review, we are used to the water being nice like Michigan lakes.
Nice park with bison, campgrounds, a historic fire tower and a 3.5 mile walking trail with beautiful flowers, trees, etc. along itself.
Great place for some outdoor relaxation and recreation.
Highly recommend visiting Ouabache! 😊
I don’t care much for holiday lights, but my wife does. Ouabache has pretty nice ones set up each year and you drive through to view them. During the off-season, the bison are awesome to visit. You can get fairly close to them. It’s just a neat experience.
Well equipped and maintained. Many features. Could not hike the soggy trails due to snow melt. Next time. Do not forget to hit your head when climbing the final steps of the fire tower stairs.
Relaxing. Restrooms were clean and maintained. Had an issue with the 30amp plug in the electric box, but they were over there in no time to fix. Have 50 amp plugs so I suggest getting an 30 to 50 amp adapter if you don't already have one. A lot of area to ride bikes and run. The bison were as friendly as always. Had a great, relaxing weekend and will definitely be back.
We stayed at the campground at site #41. Really nice campground! Would definitely stay here again!
Nice trails. I like the campground and the men's showers give a lot better privacy than Chain O Lakes. Enjoyed our stay at Wabash State Park. The pool was closed several years ago and filled in in the summer of 2020. For those who like to swim there is a beach on the lake. There is a paved bike trail that goes along the river all the way to Bluffton.
The park is just ok. We waited about an hour or so to fill up our fresh water. They need more areas to fill. The sites were really soft with no more rain than there was. I would go back and give it another try.
It's a decent state park. Lake is smaller but ideal for kayaking. They didn't have many to rent one but I had brought mine. Fire tower has about 105 steps, so 210 total. It wore me out and I'm in my upper 30's.
They have a new 2 week old baby buffalo born may 12 I think. Looks like updating all over the park. One of my personal favorites. Very clean. Nice walking trails and a paved bike trail. Pretty nice restrooms also with showers for the campers.
Love it here. So cool getting to see the bison.
We rode our bikes on the Bluffton river Greenway. It was very nice. Only once do you encounter traffic. A great bike ride for kids. You end up in the state park which is a really nice path through the woods. Very scenic. Also has a bathroom along the way.
Love this place. Family has been coming here for 30+ years
It's a nice campground. They have Bison, that you can see. And right now there's a baby Bison, his name is Firecracker. He was born July 4th. The is a small fishing lake. And beach. Nice for bike riding along the river.
Stayed here at the campground for the weekend and it was a great time besides the rain. I took one star off since the site we stayed in (76) was tore up with tire tracks and what looked to be like someone got a lawn mower stuck in the grass which then held water the whole weekend. I understand they had a lot of rain here in the past week / month but a little stone layed down would help a lot. Path around the lake was nice and maintained even though there was a good amount of goose droppings all over.
Nice place for a day out or a picnic. The area is pretty small but lovely. Things to explore: Bisons, the watch tower, lake, small hikes. There are small parks for kids and nice shades for a picnic.
Note: There’s no trash dump there. You have to carry out your trash. So make sure you take enough trash-bags with you.
Family stayed at the campgrounds over the July 4th holiday and had a wonderful time. IT WAS HOT! The park pool closed a couple of seasons back, and the lake had an algae warning (1 of which is not the park's fault - which is why my review is only 4 stars) but we found a local pool - Wells Community Pool - that was excellent. Once we knew all could visit the pool to cool off, the other activities at the park (bison viewing, trails for bikes and hiking, normal camping activities) were easier to manage in the heat. This park is active all year long so the campground bathrooms are well equipped and clean. We will plan to stay again (and will give the final start of the pool ever opens again).
A nice little piece of nature tucked away in the countryside. There's a beautiful lake, a few good hiking trails and a small herd of bison. Worth the trip, no matter where you're coming from.
Nice swimming area and plenty of hiking room. Loved seeing the bison exhibit. The price to get in is $7/car(like most state parks). We got to see deer less than 50 yards from where we fished on the lake which was awesome!
There is quite a few things to do there. The firetower that has been there for along time but is really worth it if you have never been up it. It got closed down for awhile cause it needed repairs and a bunch of people came up with the money for the repairs and was reopened a couple years ago. There is also buffalo and camping and nature trails and a beach and a boat ramp and there was paddle boats but im not sure if they still have those.
Tour Guide was Excellent, Great place for children, watchtower had a magnificent view, plenty of outdoor space for activities! And, they have real buffalo! Can't miss that!
Always a nice quiet walk on trails.
Nice little state park. $7 per vehicle to get in. Beach area was kinda nice, not too crowded. Snack food for concessions, decent prices. But then theres the spiders. TOO many spiders. Little spiders. All over the picnic table and IN the water. Too much for us.
Great park. Close to town. Nice bike trail along the Wabash river. Camp sites were nice as well.
Diamond in the rough. Great amenities and campground.
Drove the 70 miles to see the Bison, it was a fairly good day for January, but they were no where to be seen. Was looking for a park with more evergreen trees to walk in as most this time of year are depressing without the green. Was a very nice clean park including restroom, but no sink or hand sanitizer.
Nice state park with several playgrounds throughout the park. The beach was recently redone and the water is pretty clean. They would greatly benefit with the addition of a comfort station at the beach (currently has porta potties). Offsetting the beach improvements, they closed the pool (which had a water slide). Perhaps the water slide can be retrofitted onto the pier at the beach to be reused?
Most of the campground sites are small and I wouldn't recommend anything larger than a 25' camper on most of the sites. The campground comfort stations were generally clean and the showers were good. We picked a site online near a water spigot but found it was removed and capped off when we got there. The raccoons were probably the most troublesome we've encountered at any other Indiana state park. They regularly came into the campsite and walked around with impunity.
The trails were nice; nothing too difficult. Bringing children along was no big deal. There is a paved bike path that connects to another bike path that leads into town. Great for easy riding!
We would definitely visit again.
Great Campground. So pretty in fall.
Beautiful park with many amenities. Fishing, paddleboats, small beach area. Trails from 1 mile to 6! Buffalo pen. Just a beautiful park close to the city.
Wonderful park to visit and camp at
Beautiful, well maintained park. It's smaller than many of the other State parks in Indiana, but the size seems to give it a little serenity. Campground is very shaded and they sites are good sized with lots of space.
We LOVE riding bikes on the trail!! My father in law helped put those in years ago!! He has since passed away so it's nice to show the kids what their grandpa did!! Great price and just fun all around
A good state park. They have a swimming pond/lake area with a pretty beach. However, the water isn't clean and the concession stand doesn't have much. There are also spiders EVERYWHERE on the beach.
That being said, the firetower and buffalos are very unique and cool. It also only costs 7 dollars to get in per car. It's a good place to go if you live close and have a day off work.
Nice park, fire tower is fun to climb. Bison are cool to see.
Ouabache State Park has made an amazing improvement with the addition of the beach area to the small little lake. Fishing wont be back to normal for a few years, but we will surely enjoy the new beach area.. Beware though the little Bluegill like to nibble on exsposed skin. The beach also has a foot wash and shower area when its time to head back to the campground or home!
Best place too get away for fresh air, awesome scenery, wildlife, amazing trails, recreation for the grand kids, and peace. We are so lucky to have this park so close!
I love this park. I have been coming here since I was a baby. Beautiful park. Very well maintained. Nice camp ground. Great hiking trails. Love the lake where you xan rent a boat or go fishing. Only state park I have ever been to in Ind9that has is very own herd of buffalos.
I have a lot of great memories at this park. It may be small but there is a lot of fun stuff to do and everything is very well kept. Great place to go for a bike ride or just a picnic.
Beautiful state park. RV sites are well marked and spaced. A variety of shaded, partially shaded, and sunny sites. Electric only, fill fresh water tank on way in. Dump tanks on the way out. Will stay again when I'm in the area.
Its was very nice. I loved my 3 day 2 night stay. The lake is very warm and very clean and nice. I love it. But i dont know why they got rid of the shower at the lake. I also loved the trails!
Visited over Christmas break. Enjoyed the bison and holiday light displays. Trails were well maintained and easy to hike. Would be a nice summer destination with swimming, boating and camping.
I prefer more old growth forest and a nature center. The rangers were very helpful and knowledgeable.
The festival of lights was really nice again this year. The decorated fire tower with a musically synchronized light show was a neat addition from past years. Not as many displays as years past but still really neat to see.
Quiet park with lots of space in camping area. And a bison reserve.
Great R&R park. Went to a graduation party there, the lodge was awesome. May consider renting it in the future.
Love this place! The trails are awesome! All year round! Its really a beautiful place to visit,we enjoy our time at Quabache! Lots of critters to enjoy!
Our all time favorite local park. Always feel like vacation time when we go. So much to do in the summer and great place to walk and get steps.
Nice quiet park. There is a wonderful bike path that goes into town and has been extended all the way down to the restaurants. We bribed my son with Dairy Queen. I have been coming here since I was a child.
The park was fairly cool, we most enjoyed seeing the bison. There is a lake with a beach for swimming and a cool fire tower you can climb up. Don't know that we will intentionally go back.
Beautiful state park, nice camp grounds .
Bison and fire tower is a plus.
We had a great family outing at Ouabache State Park we rented a paddle boat, went swimming,on a walk it was a great time for all of us and plan on doing it again real soon. Didn't cost that much for a wonderful time with the family even the kids liked it and want to go again.
With the fire tower open once again, we went for a family visit. We found the tower closed, but found out they had locked it up because of wasp issues at the top. So, it was good they did that, than finding it that way with our little girl. Heads up to the DNR for the doing the right thing. Still had a great visit, as it is a beautiful day for a walk around the pond.
The Park is awesome!! The lake area was clean and nice. Not crowded!! My family loves it here it's always a great go to!!! We have such a good time there.
Very well laid out and extremely well maintained park. Enjoyed the bison enclosure. The trails were well maintained and easy to hike.
Fantastic park. The camp ground is clean and has a spot for your preferred camping method. There is a lot to do in the park: hiking, swimming, sports, canoeing, and fishing are just a few. Will very likely come back.
Nice park. It was cool to see the bison.
Went thinking a little State park and found others knew this was a jewel. I saw people that had biked from Bluffton on bike friendly roadways.
We were there on a hot day but were able to get about 8 mile of hiking most of it in the cover of trees. Trails were lined with the most incredible yellow flowers.
Quite nice. The Bison (state animal) do look sad but that is nature NOT bad treatment, it is their molting season nearly the entire time the park is open (spring to fall). In spring they lose the winter coat (molt) in autumn they patchily grow their winter coat. Indiana bison are naturally thinner than on TV and in paintings, they're a different breed. Please, keep all that in mind when reading the other comments.
Pronounced "Wabash" but most people will have no idea which park you're taking about unless you call it "Oobachee".
If you like walking or biking whether on road or through woods you'll like it here. There's a pool but they charge even more for that (which is price gouging in my opinion). I've never even seen the tower (I'm afraid of heights.) Driving through in winter I had to stop for a herd of about 30 deer. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
Beautiful! I love the bison and the easy trails for us and our dog. I''m excited to come by again when it's not cold, maybe in the summer for a fun day trip!
Today was a beautiful fall day to enjoy the park. Haven't been there in years. Very nice park.
One of the best managed and maintained State Parks that I have seen. Campground was great (9 day stay) as were the comfort stations. Staff was attentive and working hard to keep this property up!
Needs to have more activities for kids at campground. It would be great if pool was open everyday not just Fri through Mon. And if showers were at least warm. I waited until 10om and the water was freezing.
Went fishing, saw a snake, nice scenery and buffalo!
Ouabache may not be quite as scenic as other state parks, but it can still make for a great weekend outdoors. Great bike trail that'll take you into downtown Bluffton. Pretty much always quiet and never very crowded.
Great park with plenty of room to bike or walk and get away from others. The grounds were very clean overall and would definitely visit again!
It was very nice.. Went fishing caught small bass put all back.. Bathroom very clean.. The geese make a pest of themselves.. The entry fee is a little steep but I know they need money to run on.. All in all it was a good day..
Love this place. So peaceful!
The park its self is great!! The guy at the boat rental dock was not friendly I and another person that I didnt know was very unhappy!! Wanted to go paddle boating and couldn't because this guy had no idea what he was doing. He got mad and started slamming down the mouse to the computer and hitting the keyboard with his finger. Like slamming the keys down. Very unprofessional.
It's still cold out for anything to be open but it's a very beautiful park, can't wait to bring back the kiddos in the summer time. There is plenty of camp sites and so much to enjoy with your family!
This place is awesome! We had a lot of fun here! The live water buffalo exhibit is great though please use deet based insect repellent because tick season is here!
Can't complain really. Came and the entire park was soggy from non stop rain. If it were dry, probably better.
Only thing I really didn't like was one vehicle per campsite. Campsites weren't big enough for parking of a second vehicle.
Great biking trails, Love the bison and the fire tower, are 4-year-old loved all the playgrounds, nice small cute campgrounds on a lot of real estate!
Usually a nice place to camp. But very disappointed that the pool closes so early. We made reservations to camp in August only the find out that the pool closes Aug.10th. Ridiculous, it's still summer & hot out! Get lifeguards for the rest of the swimming season, so the pool can be used.
Fun tower and you can get up close to the bison! Some of the trails were pretty muddy and wet, but great with some water shoes!
The buffalo/bison are always fun to see, and the fire tower climb, though more difficult to climb with each passing year 😉, never fails to provide great views of the area! …
Nice State Park. Decent trails. Check out the Buffalo/Bison and Tower. Nice little lake/pond to boot.
Me and the family spent the day at ouabache state park Sunday. Had a great time, lots to do. Swim, fishing, nature walks and more.
I would recommend to anyone who puts their family first in there life.
Brian Campbell
Love this state park! The lake down by the camping area is great for fishing and swimming 💚 the Buffalo are always enjoyable to watch also! …
Great place to take walks and/or ride bikes! Nice trails, and great fire tower to climb with awesome views! Can fish in the lake, as well as swim in the beach area.
A very nice park. Peaceful, hiking trails, camping, deer, clean, picturesque, buffalo pen, firetower, lake swimming(seasonal), fishing, paddle boats, row boat access, great for family outings, company parties, church outings, rentable rustic lodge, other outdoor rentable shelters. Lived in Dallas for 6 years... it's great to back in the park lodge for Thanksgiving/Christmas family gathering, 65 year tradition at the lodge.
It is a very nice park to take your kids and grand kids to. It has alot of natural beauty.
It is a very relaxing place to spend a weekend.
Came for fishing didnt catch anything but still a great place to spend time with family
Beautiful park. Spacious sites. Great bike and hiking trails. Bathrooms were not clean but had good showers.
I come here all the time, love the trails! I run, hike, walk and bike here a lot! Great place.
Took our bikes and rode the trails. It was a very nice path. The scenery was beautiful, and the staff were both pleasant and helpful. Loved our time there.
I was only able to spend a couple hours here, but it was beautiful! Very cool to see the buffalo up close. Not as cool to be afraid of heights on the fire tower, but I would still recommend it.
Delicious atmosphere full of bison and fun
Very bike friendly. Trails all over the park and also a trail along the river that leads you into Bluffton. Campsites are large and all have asphalt pads. Loved our experience.
I'm partial to my home state park in Michigan but this is good for Indiana! It's got lots of trails, several amenities such as sport courts and a swimming are in the lake
Clean, paved road...I would say, unless you bring blocks to level your rig... Avoid sites 1-2. All the others look very nice and level. In A loop. Don't know about B loop
Very nice and quiet park with good trails. Loved our time there.
Always a very nice stay. Nice lots clean facilities. Friendly host very accommodating will be back next year
The 1st time my family and I'd been there and we were there for a birthday party at the pavilion we went into the fire tower and enjoyed ourselves tremendously look forward to going back
There's really nice picnic places. The hiking trails are really nice and there's picnic tables in an long the trails.
Clean beautiful park that offers many activities including viewing big beautiful bison.. Ya can't go wrong! (unless you try to pet them or something) lol
I love taking my kids here. There are plenty of things to do and visit but it's also a great place to camp, fish and hike.
Not very many places you can see bison in Indiana, not very many places in the US that you can see them this close. The park also has a small beach/lake for swimming, a nice camp ground, and nice picnic areas.
Beautiful park. Not huge but nice bike trails. You can bike paved trails for miles. Campground is the nicest one we've camped at for years.
We love the unique displays..no traffic.. sasquatch was a great surprise..so was the corographed tower.. experience to rember for young and old..All so..thank you for the affordable price..helped us to come.
I love this park with the Bison and fire tower. Amazing bike trail to walk, hiking paths in the woods, and a fantastic lodge to rent for parties. I get an annual pass every year.
Park is great, bathrooms and showers are all new. Kunkle Lake is drained right now to build a beach so no fishing, but the pool is also clean and cool.
Very pretty park. Restrooms weren't great but there may be other ones that arennicer than the one I was in.
Love coming here to hike the trails. The campgrounds are taken care of. The DNR do a good job of making sure everything is clean.
Beautiful state park!! Loved seeing the Bison exhibit...cant wait to go back for another visit!!
Great park, awesome bison viewing area and a fire lookout tower that you can climb.
Very nice park. Clean restrooms and showers. Nice camper hosts.
Ouabache State Park a nice park, the shower houses need some up dating but the pool is nice, the trails are easy to walk on but the shelters need some cleaning. I give it 4 stars:)
Nice clean park, friendly staff, plenty for the entire family to enjoy. Hiking, biking, bison
Very nice highly recommend
Great place to take the family..walk trails..climb the tower..have a picnic
Beautiful and quiet. Our pop up unfortunately broke a cable so we didn't get to camp but what we observed will have us come back. Here's to the next trip here.
Fun and small state park with great trails. My kids live the buffalo, lake, and fire tower.
Could NOT find a trash receptacle to save my life. Finally trespassed at the ranger station and used the dumpster.
Great place to hike trails great place for camping and go on horse trails. Seeing live buffalos. You are able to have family gatherings and a lodge.
We love camping here!!
My girlfriend and I loved seeing the bisen and taking a walk around the trails. Great experience!
We like that there are several family activities. Our favorite is the bike trail, fire tower, bison, and fishing.
Never seen Buffalo’s before but the park was beautiful
Great trails. Love the Bison and History. Great staff... very helpful and friendly.
Our first visit and we will definitely be back, kids loved the bison.
Property is well kept and the camping is great. Fishing is good as well. Trails are great for hiking. Always a good time!
It is very fun and has a lot of things to do and keeps you busy it is a very good camping spot though it can add a few more camping spots
Our favorite place to take the kids on a good day. So much to do and a great trail system.
Hadn't been there in a long time, we met our daughter, and or son in law and grandsons,it was beautiful and peaceful there. Nice way to start the week!
Nice hiking. Flatter terrain than some other parks, but totally nice.
Beautiful park, very clean, well kept. We loved it! Cant wait to go back!
No water was the only bad thing. I had a wonderful time
Nice park, even had a couple of tables we could access with a person in a wheelchair, (rare)
Definitely check out the Buffalo Babble on Saturdays. They feed the bison and you can see them up close. Also climb the fire tower for a great view of the area.
A little wet still but nice trails to hike
Nice area with bike trails. Older campground facilities but ok.
Nice park with a watchtower, bison enclosure, and small lake.
A beautiful place to hike, fish, bike, and very well taken care of. Thank you to all of Bluffton who contribute to this park.
We experienced a wonderful overnight camping adventure. Friendly, informative and helpful staff and camp hosts (Chris).
Awesome park. Came to see the CCC statue there. Park staff is super friendly and helpful. Will be back.
good little state park! always like camping there. the staff does a great job considering the tough financial spot the state puts them in.
Headed there Sunday excited ...first timer
We were only here for 1 night but it seemed like a very nice park
Great hike around the park.
Quiet and relaxing. Bison habitat and lots of wooded trails. Weather was perfect.
Nice park, most of the sites have good shade. There's lots of raccoons so keep your trash and food secured!
Friendly service
We had the best time 🥰 …
Great state park! Excellent trails and campsites.
Great place to camp. Lots of shade. The bison pen is cool to check out. Nice bike and hiking trails.
Such a beautiful park! I love the trails! Fire tower and buffalo are great too!
Great time at the beach ! Grandkids love it! Clean sand. Picnic tables are so nice to have around too
Beautiful park to explore. Really nice biking options. I loved it when I learned how to pronounce Ouabache :)
Just drove by did not go to the park
Great place for a weekend trip.
Only drawback was the sewage dumping station was right across from the campground..
Amazing park. Fun trails to run or bike through. Its secluded from the city. You only hear the sounds of natures beauty.
Kids enjoyed the beach. But would have been nicer if they raked the shoreline more to remove some of the seaweed
Great park, used ball diamond and nature walks. The lodge is a great rustic place for events.
the updates to the park in the last few years make this a delightful destination for a family picnic, fishing excursion, or weekend camping.
Nice evening at Ouabache State Park!
I love the trails and all the beautiful trees. Nice place to take your dog for a walk.
Nice park with good camping area, large lake, swimming beach, easy hiking trails, and a smallish buffalo herd. Too bad the firetower was closed.
Its beautiful but $7 to fish 30 minutes won't do that again next time we will stay all day and enjoy everything else too
Nice state park with a camping area, a small lake for fishing and a fenced in area with buffalo. Also has a fire tower but has not been accessible the few times I've been there.
Nice place for a day out!
$7 to enter the park if your a Indiana resident
Not enough shelters on busy weekends
A very nice state park. Pool, camping, bison, trails......the list goes on. Love to ride our bikes all over the park. Great family park!!!!
We thought our stay here was wonderful. Loved the buffalo exhibit and chat. A great place for retirees and families.
Nice campground. Flat landscape. All sites electric. Campground A has larger sites than B. Both geared more for camper vs. Tent camping.
Very lovely park with a little of everything - trails, woods, picnic tables, a lovely lake with a beach and canoes.
Nice beach and campground. Bathrooms at campground are nice and have been updated. Plenty of hiking trails. Fishing available at the lake.
Though slightly cold this weekend, There's always an enjoyable time
We had a wonderful walk, checked out campsites, and will be back soon.
The place is so beautiful and peaceful!!
Nice park, can fish, boat, swim, hike, and see buffalo. Could use a bit more to do put pretty good for what you can find in this area.
Awesome memories of this place from my childhood and now our children are making wonderful memories!!! Such a great place to camp with friends and family!
I'd give it a better rating, but A.) There are no playgrounds etc for the littles to play. B.) You have to pay to get in 🤨 to a park! …
Awesome place to check out bison!
Ouabache is the Native American spelling of Wanash. Very nice park with camping, lodge, swimming beach, buffalo, and a fire tower for great views.
Absolutely beautiful and good easy trails to walk
Would be a nice place to have a picnic and walk trails but was windy and rainy the day we went.
Fun place to see the animals outdoor nature.
Very nice campsites. A little muddy when you get a downpour of rain obviously, but plenty of shade trees to help beat the sun.
Love this park. Walking around the Bison area is a great time. Especially with the new baby bison
Easy to get to, lots of play areas and open spaces. Once the lake is built there should great swimming
The tatonka were cool as hell and the tower is cool too. The whole park is very clean
Nice little park with a decent camping area. There was enough to keep the children busy for a weekend.
Nice park
Very nice State Park. Paved roads for bicycling. Clean & quiet surroundings. Helpful Staff.
Beautiful park. Would be great if they add full hookup
You need a camp store and a swiming pool and a nature center . Your the only one that I know that doesnt have a nature center..
The Christmas light display was awesome! The fire tower music and light show was especially awesome!
Great trails and a bike path that takes you into Bluffton!
I think it is a beautiful place... The bison looked plump and healthy to me. Nothing negative to say about this park!
Had a nice wkd! Peaceful campground.Beautiful.Loved the bison exibit and trails.
Was a fantastic place to visit. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable can't wait to visit again
Pretty area with really nice trails. Dogs love it too!
We love this park..so much to do for the entire family for a day or for a week of camping
Nice walking areas and have bison on the land. They have a camp area also plus a maze with a map for what to look for.
Love this park. Clean, and friendly. Get up close to nature, and a baby Bison.
Pretty big and nice park. Kinda sad there's no lake and fire tower is off limits. 🤔 …
Historical, well kept, fantastic newly restored fire tower, lots of paths to walk and camping ( full this weekend)
Had a great time with wife and kids (Jaymie Leigh Foy, Rebecca Nicole and Jason Jr Jeffers ! Had a great day
The picnic areas are nice;
And the flat terrain makes it a nice park for families..
Had a great time at the park will definitely go back sometime.
Disappointed they don't allow dogs. Also not a good campground for tents
I have enjoyed this state park for over 20 years. Great trails and wildlife
Been there several times to camp. It's small, but there is still a lot to do, such as hiking, camping, fishing, boat rental, and bike rental.
A little muddy in places around bison home but well worth the walk. Climbing the tower was good too just a tad windy
Had Thanksgiving with family and friends
Than we walked around to see the buffalo. Nice State Park.
Overpriced campsites. 32 dollars plus a 9 dollar daily park fee for non IN residents. That's crazy for electric only sites.
Beautiful place but be prepared to pay $7.00 for entry. Which is ridiculous!
Love this park!
What a great park. The bike trail connects to a longer trail making a fun ride
Very nice State Park. The CCC History was very interesting, as was the history of the fire tower and bison.
Very nice campground but they definitely need a camping store and a nature center.
Beautiful state park the trail are easy to hike.
River Green way is a nice walking spot. That is all I do here. It has benches and picnic area.
It was so very nice! Very well kept, nice place to camp!
Nice and peaceful but they need to clean their pool and they charge a little bit too much or too many things
Lovely day for a walk. Well cared for state park with nice amenities.
Pretty park. Went there for a wedding. Main Lodge is nice but on the small side.
Nice small state park. The new swimming area is a big let down, miss the pool.
Fairly busy, not covid clean. Out houses safer then running water restrooms... trust me
Great place to camp or just to visit. Beautiful park with bison to visit!
Been goin here since I was a kid
A small park, but has some great amenities. Buffalo, pool, camping, swimming hole, boat rental, etc. etc.

Great park to spend the weekend camping!
I wish I knew about this place when my kids was younger. Took the grand kids and they enjoyed themselves.👍🏽 …
7 dollars for residents is what some tourist heavy places would charge just to climb the fire tower there
Nice to be in nature. Had a great time at my Fiance's grandfather 90 th bday party.
Beautiful trails. Definitely will go again.
Amazing place for hiking, camping and spending the entire weekend outdoors!!!
Went here for Halloween and camping it was a great experience , Lots to do.
