Really cool downtown ice rink. Great place to take kids to get a little outside fresh air when visiting Des Moines in the winter. They rent skates and have a Zamboni so you will get good ice.

Great place for concerts. It's an open air venue that hosts concerts rain or shine. I love the outdoors aspect of it because most concert venues get so hot from all the body heat. Here you can step away from the crowd and cool off in the nice breeze coming off the river. The acoustics are surprisingly good. The sound is consistent from front to back. I've never had any trouble finding parking. There is no parking lot here so you have to park on the street. Don't forget to bring change so you can feed the meter!

The park is quite small when they allow so many people for one time slot. Even if you already registered online will still have to wait in the line to check in, make sure to come earlier so you don't lose too much time waiting.

Fun filled cold nights! We enjoy this rink and the music friends and good times that come with! Brentons do not offer season passes anymore which is really a bummer.

So my oldest and his girlfriend invited us out to skate. I'm not much of an ice skater, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The entry and skate fee is reasonable The staff was super helpful and nice. The music is great. Didn't like that the concessions were sparce and that they'd run out of gloves or that the bumper rentals were so high. BUT the smile on their faces and the cool color lighting on the ice in the evening were bomb! I will return for sure!

Our family skates a lot and we were in town for New years and thought this would be something fun for us to do. It's a cool environment with it being downtown but there's a lot they could improve on. The price was ridiculous. In Minneapolis you can skate on an outdoor rink that's bigger for $5. If you have you own skates it was free. Here it was $14 with skate rental. That's nuts. And the ice was super rough and cut up. They did clean it once but they should use tge Zamboni more often. Probably won't go again.

Such a great place to take a date, hang with friends, and a hot spot for tourists. It is has an amazing view especially at night. Though, just like every downtown, finding parking can be hard.

A fun place to skate with the whole family. This is a large skating rink with plenty of skate sizes to rent, both hockey and figure skates. Some people complained about snack prices, but you pay for the convenience and help support the skating rink.

It was a lot of fun skating! Be aware that you have to arrive at certain times as there are 1 1/2 hr sessions. It was not too crowded to enjoy during the 9:30-11pm time slot. Improvements could be made to maintaining the ice and the skates.

Unfortunately it was warm and sunny so the ice wasn't very smooth and created a bit of a rough surface. Great atmosphere and fun times no matter what though. Will definitely go back.

It’s a very great ice skating rink. Management was super friendly and timely. When I arrived there was a huge group and they got us all in pretty quickly. They have a ton of little things for the kiddos to push around, skates of all sizes. The only thing and really I mean the only thing keeping it from getting 5 stars is the size. It is a lot smaller than any rink I have ever been to. It was outdoors and they had good music playing. Refreshments for purchase if you wanted them. Just a little small.

1st time here. Loved it. Beautiful city skyline view. Very romantic. Unique little skate rental shop with lots of good snacks. So nice to see so many people having fun. All different kinds here. Singles, couples, familes, teens, 50+ up. This spot will make any bad day be forgotten.

It was SO FUN to skate here. We made an appt. (you essentially have to now with COVID. They do accept walking, but are often sold out) and got there right on time so we could have fresh ice. We skated for about an hour and a half and had a blast! If you’re going to do this often, I’d definitely suggest getting your own skates that fit you perfectly so you don’t have blisters at the end of the day. But for the occasional skater, their skates are totally fine.

I have been here twice with my kid. I think for the two of us it was like $9.00 we had our own skates. Think Rental is $5.00. Think this is a decent price. This is outside so dress appropriately. The ice has been a little rough each time. Yes they could clean the ice more but it's not the end of the world. You can still skate around with ease. There are bathrooms close by. Along with parking meters right by. They are the credit card type so you don't have to scrounge around for change. When you're done skating there is plenty to do just a few blocks away.

Went here on a Tuesday night for their "Two for one" special. I wish there was an adult who worked here. I stood at the register for far too long while 3 teenagers were goofing off. There really weren't many other skaters who didn't work there, maybe two or three couples, so at least it wasn't crowded. The ice was very rough, not sure how often they clean it. Decent date night, just felt it lacked adult supervision.

I haven't skated here--I would probably break my neck--but I love it as a concert venue. The sound is great, the tent-like topper provides reprieve from the summer sun and a great canvas for a light show. You can't beat a beautiful evening with one of your favorite bands and spectacular views of downtown at night. This place is really something special.

Great venue for night fall on the river. Foster the people were awesome. Several tunes from their latest album interspersed with popular hits from their 1st and 2nd album. Great concert and crowd loved it. Would pass on parking on the street with quarters or parking card as the parking ramp was a great alternative.

So much fun!!!! The lighting & music was amazing and the staff was okay as well. This was my first time here so I got a little confused on where to go to get my shoes (I had them keep them). I waited at the front to ask someone where I go to get my shoes but all of the workers rushed passed me. It was busy as it was the weekend before Christmas so I understand but no one made an attempt to help me, they looked passed me and pretended I wasn’t there while they took others’ money & gave them wristbands. It was a ton of fun and decently priced! I’d recommend and in fact I’ll be back next year

Lots of fun for our kids! Pretty crowded when we went because it was so warm out (40's) but our kids still enjoyed the skating. Reasonable prices. Friendly staff. (The ice could have used a Zamboni run on it)

We paid the adult tickets online without participating and never been refunded. But the kids had good time. Verify well your order before accepting the charges.

It's a great skating rink but they have these blue things for kids that can't skate to use and if all 11 of them, or honestly even more than four are in use, they take up so much space on the rink that you can't skate without having to stop every ten seconds because there's a line of kids in the way blocking literally the entire half of the rink with these blue crutches. If you're wanting to practice skating or honestly just have fun at all, definitely don't come here if it's a weekend or if there's a fundraiser night because you won't be able to skate.

Perfect place for a date or night out with friends or family. Amazing views of the Des Moines city skyline while you enjoy a fun time skating. Big enough that it can usually accommodate the crowds, but can get a little full on good weather nights. There's also plenty of seating if you'd rather just come watch and enjoy the view.

I really enjoy outdoor ice skating and have been here several times and always had a good experience. It can get a bit crowded on the weekends, but typically it's not too busy. Great location and also a great place to check out music in the warmer months.

Awesome venue for a concert. Went to see the lacs there it was great. They could invest in maybe some fans in the tent because for some reason not every good airflow and on a hot summer night they could use it.

Pick your time wisely. Be ready to deal with a small rink that gets torn up fairly quickly. Zamboni does not run as frequently as I would have hoped. Skate rentals are cheap and the quality reflects that.

Staff and price was great and only reason for 3 stars. It loses the other 2 stars because they only played country music. Half of it was depressing. Had they had a variety of music it would have been much more enjoyable.

This was the first time I went ice skating ever and I had so much fun! We took both of our kids and definitely plan on coming back next year. I just wish we wouldn’t have waited until the last week to finally visit.

Fun place. Nice trendy music. But the staff is just "there" not rude, but not friendly. Wish there was more chairs to sit and watch. And heaters for those who don't skate.

Saw Gov't Mule with Galactic here the other night at Nitefall on the River. It was my first time ever to this venue and it was AMAZING! The views of the Des Moines skyline behind the river were spectacular and throw in some excellent live music with awesome acoustics and you get a memory that will never be forgotten.

Great with the scheduling rink time by appointment, doesn’t get overcrowded! Recommend going 10 minutes after start time to avoid the line for getting arm band and skates.

It's night time fun at a low cost in central Iowa. It doesn't much better than that! Des Moines East Village and Downtown areas are buzzing at night and generally have a very small-town feel even in the heart of the city. Downtown is well lit and feels pretty safe throughout the night. All-and-all, Brenton Skating Plaza and Downtown Des Moines make for pretty reasonably priced entertainment for most ages.

Went for a promotional event. I'm in no way a good, nor even an able, skater. However, this was a fun event with a quality dj. My only gripe was the lack of free hot chocolate that was advertised for the event.

Great place to go ice skating. Relatively inexpensive. You can skate for as long as you like. There is a nice small shelter you can sit in and watch people skate. It can get crowded on the weekends sometimes. Definitely a great place to go!

Very packed skating rink, was nice to be able to go ice skating in Des Moines, but was very expensive if you did not have your own shoes. Was 28$ for two people, and was so crowded that spending longer than an hour there would be difficult. There were some concession stand style food options. Could pay extra to have them store your shoes inside instead of leaving them outside in a pile with everyone else's.
