Younger Bartender lady with long dark hair was the worst bartender I've ever encountered we went for my daughter birthday jan. 24th and it wasn't even that busy. It took them 30 min to even get the bartender to acknowledge them then she said she'd go get their drinks and never came back she was just all over the place not aware of her surroundings or her customers we were there for an hour and 45 minutes and didn't get a drink one time

Great place to shoot pool! This is a proper pool hall. Bar is stocked, they have food, rates for pool table is by the hour and reasonable. Phone chargers are available for those who want to stay for hours :).. even notches in the chairs to hold your pool cue. Definitely going back again soon!

This is a great place to shoot some pool. They also can repair your stick and they have them for sale. You can joint a pool league or create your own. The food is not too bad either after a few drinks. Just being honest!

The place is huge. Even with a big crowd it never feels crowded. Very nice Diamond tables, with cue sales and repair services. Try the food! The servers are nice and helpful, but can get overwhelmed on a very busy night. Just be patient.

Big Dog Billiards is a great hidden gem in Des Moines. The best pool hall in Central Iowa, featuring different types of tables for different games. They also host tournaments and have private room for events. Great beer selection featuring some local craft and at one of the best prices in town. Food is typical bar food, which can be hit or miss. It is located right off the I80/35

At this moment I’m sitting in my vehicle waiting for it to heat up, and I can’t hold my opinion any longer. My family and I have been regulars at this bar for quite a few years, and have only been greeted with respect and appreciation every time we walk through those doors. Tody is the best, most attentive bartender I have ever met, especially with the volume of customers she serves every single time we come in. Tody is impressively fast at making drinks, and remembers every single order of mine to a T! The bald guy (Matt?) is badass and greets us as if we’re family friends every single time he sees us! The blonde woman (I can’t remember her name) is extremely friendly and greets me with a welcoming smile every time she sees me. WE LOVE OUR STAFF AT BIG DOGS BILLIARDS!!

It was my first time here. Thank you so much to Michelle who was working alone but gave such super amazing service! She was friendly, funny, and made me feel right at home. Tables are a reasonable price for the hourly price, and drinks were made perfectly every time. My boyfriend and I had an amazing time, and I will definitely be back. He has been there multiple times, but again, my first time. If service and friendliness is always up to this standard, Big Dogs will NEVER have a bad review from me <3

The facility has nice tables and offers decent food and drinks. Despite reminders on the door, hardly anyone wears a mask or practices any kind of social distancing. During a tournament night, there were probably 300 people inside this large space packed closely together. This isn't a place I'll visit much until either these conditions are addressed or risk from the pandemic is diminished.

This place is a great hang out, with or without the family. The food is decent, typical bar food. The atmosphere is always good, no matter what time of day you go. They have a number of drink options, alcoholic or not. The fact that I can take my kids in here without judgement is a big plus!

Did my best to wave them down and wait politely, but I really didn't care to wait 15 minutes for one beer, especially since it wasn't crowded at all.

Decently priced with a nice staff. Clean atmosphere for a bar. We didnt try the food but it looked good. We played about 4 rounds of pool and ordered drinks. 2 drinks cost about 10 bucks so not the cheapest place but they were cold and tasted great. We will definitely be back.

My wife and I love this place. It's quiet when we go, drink prices aren't out of line... Their credit card policy stinks, that's the reason it gets 4 stars. The bartender wants to hold the card on a tab, that ain't happening. Otherwise if we're going somewhere to shoot pool, this is where we're going.

It maybe always crowded but there is so much space for your own group or just you to shoot some pool. The drink prices are average and the food is served till later then the normal bar. This is such a laid back place I would even bring kids too. Prices on the time playing is well worth it too. I have been here many times and have never had to wait to get a table. Only thing I can say is the bartenders are not friendly. They are not really rude or mean just not friendly.

If you're looking for a place to shoot some pool, look no further. There is usually always an open table (Except on league nights), and the rates for table rental are very reasonably priced. Great for hanging out with friends, to get a pint, or both. Only real complaint I have is the lack of staff, while they are very quick and efficient, it seems as though they could use some more staff to help out.

I use to play pool a lot and started going here a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. They have at least 75 or more pool tables, in 7 and 9 foot sizes for standard 8 ball and 9 ball and appears that they have snooker tables as well although I've never played that game. They also have a full kitchen and bar with great food. Only thing they do not have is hand chalk, but I'm sure there is health reason for that. They also have some stand up video games etc and is family friendly. Overall I give the establishment 5 stars as coupled with their billiards offering the service has also been outstanding.

Absolutely loved it! I'm a complete beginner when it comes to pool, and never felt more comfortable. My only other experience of playing pool in public(3rd time in total) was @ a bar and when I'd inevitably mess up, there would be at least one drunk heckler (it was also extremely loud there). That was not the case at big dog! I was treated with the same respect as anyone and was able to focus on improving my skills instead of solely on my failures. Everybody was pretty well spread out because of their huge collection of pristine tables, and they all were focused on their game or the football on the TV 😁. It was also a really good price, the ability to pay for exactly how much time you use ($8/hr) was amazing for learning how to play , especially compared to pay per game tables you'd find elsewhere. This experience was incredible! I came in not being able to hit the cue consistently and left not only making more consistent shots but actually being able to focus on the strategy of the game. (Thinking moves ahead, starting to play with my strike position on the cue,etc.) I will be coming back!

went here for the second time last night. they happened to be running a weekly 8 ball tournament. I believe the ladies name was Dusti. but she ran a 32 person tournament flawlessly. the tables played great. cant remember a single one rolling off. the staff at big dogs is super nice and made sure I always had a drink. but will make this a stop everytime I'm in the area.

Bartenders were very friendly. Provided a few dry towels after coming in soaked from the terrible storm. They were accomadating to our bridal party and it was a great place to enjoy drinks after the reception.

This is a very accommodating pool hall with dozens and dozens of high quality 7 and 9 foot tables in great condition. They have several stand up games that I've never played, but see people playing them. The atmosphere is typical with a full bar and kitchen with some amazing food. I've only tried a few items from menu and all have been amazing. The hourly rates are low 7.50 per table, so really cheap in my opinion. The only negative thing is that they do not have hand chalk so plan on bringing a small baby powder or something with if you need or use it normally. Otherwise a fantastic place to hang out and sharpen up your billiards skills. Easy access off 80/35 at 14th Street so a quick jaunt from anywhere in Des Moines.

Biggest pool hall that I've seen. 7,8,9 and one 10 ft table. All are kept in excellent condition and balls are polished regularly. Good selection of straight house sticks. One heated 3 cushion table. Also serve great fresh made food. .

The food here was downright outstanding. We were in town for business and just went to the nearest place to our hotel, and it was the best meal all weekend. The steak sandwich is actually a strip steak on a bun, and everything else ordered at the table was damn good.
