Reviews of St. Vrain State Park
Jeremiah Osborne-Gowey
Close to major travel corridors so an easy on/off. Can frequently hear I-25 traffic, although not terribly loud.
Plenty of camping spots for tents and RVs (several loops; some closed in the Winter).
Decent collection of trails around the numerous ponds. Lots of birds frequent the area, including multiple species of ducks, geese, cranes, egrets, herons, wading birds, pelicans, gulls, and bald eagles. Ponds are frequently stocked with various species of game fish with plenty of year-round fishing opportunities (ice fishing in the Winter when the ice is 4+ inches thick).
J Holmes
Bikers beware! Not sure if this a seasonal issue but three of my children's bikes had flat tires the second day. I replaced tubes and sent them out, only to have two more flats. Closer inspection I found tiny thorn like objects stuck in the tires. Multiple pinholes in the tubes. I decided to go for a walk along the pond side trails for investigation. After returning I found thorn like seeds stuck in my sandals. They appear to be from water side flora. As i said, maybe it's a seasonal thing where the seeds are shedding. All the bikes are mountain bikes but a few with crossover tires. Sticking to the main dirt roads would probably alleviate any issues, but then you're missing the views!
The overall location of the park is right next to I25 and another major highway. There was traffic noise and you can see multiple gas station and convenience store signs looming above the tree line. This doesn't necessarily bother me, but it certainly didn't match the usual state park setting I'm accustomed to. I think other sections of the park would be less affected and more secluded.
Beyond that, it's a large park with multiple stocked ponds/reservoirs for fishing and boating. We stayed in an RV on the coot pond loop. We had a spacious site with full hookups, great water pressure and a picnic table. The "sun" shade built around the table hardly did anything for us. it isn't oriented correctly to block the sun. It appears that the sites were built as a cookie cutter design.

Great place. Nice ponds. Great camp sites. Close to the highway. Not in the mountains. Can get warm. But awesome location to see Boulder, Fort Collins, and Denver. Rangers nice.
(The proximity to the highway is the only reason I might go 4/5 stars. But consider, that may be the reason to stay here - if you want to get out on the way elsewhere).
Anne Brodie
This facility is well-run, and effective human planning makes it so much easier to relax and enjoy Mother Nature's beauty! The sites are spacious, with easily accessible hook-ups and a cover over the picnic table that gives some relief from son and rain, but even more importantly offers protection from the strong winds that tend to come in the evenings. There is only one building with showers and it isn't in walking distance for many, but they are clean with great pressure and temperature, hooks, a bench, and place to set my shampoo. However, if you are a walker there are plenty of trails and bodies of water to enjoy. The other guests were mellow and pleasant, too. There are also a lot of shops, good food, and other amenities available nearby. Overall a great experience.
Mountaintop Joey
We drove up from Southern Colorado to do a little ice fishing. This is the only place I've ever seen rescue rings in case someone falls through the ice. There is ample parking and vault toilets and lots of ponds to choose from. Happy fishing!
Andrew Davidge
Cute little State park with easy access from I-25. Great fishing and camping opportunities with well maintained facilities and full RV hookups. If you’re looking for a long hike nature immersion experience, St. Vrain may not be your jam. We walked around Pelican Lake, enjoyed the fantastic views of Longs Peak, and had a lovely picnic under a Cottonwood tree. We’ll be back when we’re ready to teach the kiddos how to fish.

St. Vrain State Park is an amazing place to go visit if you want to see some awesome wildlife. You'll see Bald Eagles, Pelicans, Great Blue Herons, and so many other amazing birds there. It's also a great place if you just want to go for a nature walk. I definitely recommend visiting this park!
Joseph B
It’s an okay State Park. I been to a better State Park. I gave it a 3 star because it’s a good place to be under the tree nature watching - the lake, different birds, fish (wish I brought my fishing pole). If you like fishing and camping it’s a place for you. The smell of the fire wood is very calming even in a 90 degree weather. It has trails too, but not in a hot weather, too open.
Lots of site for the RV’s.
The side (where the RV’s are) is too noisy, from all the cars from the highway. The side after coming in the entrance (on the right) is quiet.
It has a lot of ponds, lakes but not a big place.
sonia brocko
I am a dog walker, it's nice to walk around the ponds. It can get crowded at the weekends year round, but especially in spring-fall with RV camping. It is next to the interstate, but as a local, I am glad to have a park of this size - and the views!!@
Scott Cochran
Clean camping spots. The highway noise isn't a big deal. Ignore the posts saying so. Full hookups are great. Price is right. Spots are concrete and level. Repeat customer.
Mark Schuttler
Such a beautiful State Park. Lots of fishing lakes. Nice sites. Enjoyed this place a lot.
Justin Bubenik
Great state park (expect to pay a daily entrance fee if you don’t have a park pass) with plenty of lakes to fish for warm water species year round and trout during the colder months. Decent place to try out ice fishing at one of the smaller stocked ponds.
Zach Skazma
This is a great place to bring a camper hang out and chill for the weekend. 11 gravel pond lakes with fishing and wakeless boating. Tons of birds, ducks and critters. Nice place to get away that is still super close to the city, almost a staycation spot of sorts. There is a little traffic noise from being so close to two major highways. However the views will make up for it!
Jo Burnish
Nice and relaxing spot for kayaking. Just try to ignore the noise from Hwy 119. Somehow the birds manage it!
Tara Roehl
A fantastic little park packed with fun! Did you know they have bass Ponds with trophy winning bass? Or a Junior Ranger program that takes you all over the park on an adventure! Everyone is super helpful and they support my wilderness immersion program! We let them know we were coming today and they had so many awesome things ready for us - stickers, pencils, workbooks,L and more! Be sure to ask about their backpacks you can borrow - packed with informational books, guides, magnifying glasses, binoculars and more! We loved using it to explore.
Jon Shive
The park is beautiful. There are several ponds with walking trails around them, and the osprey and pelicans are fun to watch.
Open Sky Management
This is a great RV spot, well managed, full Hook Ups, picnic tables with shelters, bon-fire ring and grill on “Lake Front Property”
I’ve heard the fishing is good, canoes, paddle boards and fishing troll boat’s allowed. Grocery stores, gas, restaurants and services are close by.
Ray Chen
Multiple ponds and lakes. Some are not productive, but some are easy to fish. It's good for bait, artificial lures and flies fishing, depending on the specific pond. Also great for ice fishing as well.
Matt & Kiersten
As a tent camper, we actually enjoyed camping here. It’s more set up for RVs and so close to I-25 that you can hear the traffic and see the lights all night.
But it’s a good, quick, and convenient campground in a lower elevation when you’re not up for dealing with the icy nighttime temps in the higher elevations.
Whether or not you’re coming for camping, the lakes are a fantastic place to drop in small kayaks and SUPs for a quiet day on the water.
The restrooms near one of the camping areas is large and clean. There are also pit toilets throughout the campground for those camping.
Take walks or bike rides around the lakes (just be aware with the bikes and watch the little pricier things that pop bike tires - we lost use of 3 of our four bikes from them)
Walmart is a short drive if you need to stock up on anything while you’re there.
Joanne Milligan
Great state park. Sites are big and spread out so you're not right on top of each other. Restrooms and showers very clean. There are many ponds for fishing and trails for walking. It is close to the interstate so there is that noise, but it didn't bother us at all. We'll be back for sure.
Karen Kalb
This was the first time I'd actually visited this park. My kids had camped here before. The public bath house and restrooms was really great. The name used to be Barbour Ponds. There was also an area inside where you could have a picnic with tables and benches. Their handicap fishing accommodations were excellent although we didn't use them on this visit, we'll be back.
Susan Smith
We have stayed here a few times. Friendly staff and clean campgrounds. Campgrounds are spaced apart and even have a little shelter over the picnic table. Very nice restroom and shower area. Yes, there is hwy noise, but we enjoy staying here.
Airstream Dream
Spacious level sites with picnic covers and fire rings. We enjoyed the privacy of this place and the amazing sunsets. The ladies at check-in were super warm and welcoming. Our view was pretty but felt a little barren. There is a walking path along the different ponds in the area. It didn't really have the lake vibe we were hoping for as the highway is near and in sight so that's why it's a 3-star in our books.
Jeremy Gainey
Great park, only down fall to the site we had was the highway noise.
Keith Hunt
The park itself is very nice, but we had issues with the way they nickel and dime you. We have stayed at a lot of state parks and never had to pay daily for park use after paying for camping. When they want to charge you $9.00 just to have someone drive in to pick you up and didn’t even getting out of the car, I think is unreasonable. My wife is disabled and couldn’t walk out to the gate but that didn’t matter. We still had to pay every day to leave and return.
Becky Phillips
I guess we didn't understand why this was a state park. We've been all over the USA and usually state parks are large, each site has some privacy, and there are things to see and do. This is a basic campground with small lakes, a river, birds, fish, and that's pretty much it. There are no programs for children, or adults for that matter, a LOT of highway noise, catch and release fishing, and some kayaking. The sites are level concrete pull-thrus. There is no bathhouse on the full hookup side so make sure your toilet and shower are in working order. There is a fire ring, a picnic table with cover at each site. Firestone has King Sooper's grocery store (Kroger affiliate) closeby that was completely amazing. If ever in the area again, we probably wouldn't stay here as a first choice.
Gene Hofstetter
We are repeat visitors to St Vrain but this is the first time camping. Park personnel are very friendly and helpful. Also quick to respond. Nice camping pull thru spots and can accommodate our 38.5 foot Class A. Concrete pad, covered picnic table and fire ring. Highly recommend this park.
Gerry Hamontree
Lots of birds and water! Road noise from I-25 isn't as bad as you would think. Fishing is good. I saw a grandpa teaching his grandson how to fish. Perfect!!!
Jen Nicole
The campsites are very well maintained. Easy to get to. The bathrooms have no lights so after dark, it is a bit sketchy.
John Wilber
Great state park! We have stayed several times for RV camping. The RV spots are extremely spacious with your neighbors being a good distance away. Lots of Lakeside spots available. It's nice to walk a few feet and be able to cast a line. Staff has always been very friendly. The actual RV spots are paved, wide, and have covered picnic tables. Great spot for a quick trip and fishing!
Kro Bontemps
30$ for full hook-up + 7$ park entrance fee for everyday. Park is clean, sites levelled, good utilities, old lady at the front gate was horrible, harassed us, ruined our first day. Only a few short trails around the lake where you cannot swim, fishing only. Pretty close to shopping, gas,...36 min to boulder. Some sites are really close to the interstate which has a lot of traffic.
Sarah S
87 campsites, some with full hookups and others with just electric service. Large concrete pads and plenty of space between sites. Buy a Colorado State Parks pass if you're staying more than 10 days; otherwise it's an additional fee of $9 a day in addition to the campsite fee.
Jeremy Menninger
Really nice! We stayed in our RV. The park is BEAUTIFUL. The highway noise is definitely present, but it wasn’t a deal breaker for us given how nice the ponds and trees are. Based on the noise AND the fact that they slap you with a $9 state park fee for every day you stay, 4 stars. Check out Pelican pond if you go.
Barbara Witt
Beautiful park. Excellent staff. Very clean. Easy access from I25. In return traffic noise throughout the night, otherwise I would have given 5 stars.
Ivan Ramírez
Lovely state park. Centrally located. Clean, peaceful, leveled RV sites. Staff anf rangers are very friendly and helpful. Can't ask for more. Keep up the good work guys!
Katie Brinkley
Very nice park. LOTS of places to catch some fish. Any spot 1-42 (except 9 and 10) would be great for camping. 9-10 are the closest to the highway and there is a LOT of road noise. Bathrooms have no water and are just the toilet and big pit, so plan accordingly with hand soap.
There are a lot of mosquitoes so being plenty of bug spray.
Melissa Meredith
Such a great group of people running this park and there were people out on the ice everyday ice fishing. Our 10-year old son had a blast ice fishing nearly everyday. The ponds are heavily stocked with trout. The showers had good water pressure but the timer on the lights left me in the dark more than once on a 5 minute shower. I know it was 5 min because it's a quarter operated shower. $0.75 for 4 minutes and $0.25 for each additional minute. Totally reasonable given how inexpensive the camping is. I wish they had laundry facilities. We will go back and recommend this park.
Aaron M. Paulsen
Camped here In October 2021 for our last camping trip of the year! Had an excellent time, full hook-ups were nice, sites were very clean, and staff was very friendly!
Christina Getman
Lovely State Park along the northern part of I-25 in Colorado near Longmont. Great for day use fishing/picnic or for camping with a tent or RV. We stayed with our 30ft camper in the electric only sites for three nights and absolutely loved it. It's a bird sanctuary with numerous ponds. We'll be back again !!
Tim Boothe
To close to town and expense. All Colorado state parks are expensive the highest price we have encountered and we have stayed in 8 States this year. The park is northwest of Denver so a trip to the mountains is a must.
Elizabeth Hess
Great spot for families, kids, and those with mobility issues. Lots of parking, restrooms, picnic tables and stocked lakes!
I went to the Fishing Experience (3/17/18), which was an amazing event! Information, booths, giveaways, and best of all a small army of Fish & Wildlife staff who were more than happy to lend a pole and teach actual fishing! My daughter and I learned enough to go out fishing on our own. The stocked ponds at St. Vrain were helpful, and the regular staff were welcoming and friendly!
Cynthia Guthrie
Great State Park with spacious sites and lots of trails around the lakes. Enjoyed watching the rabbits and birds throughout the park.
Jamie Greenwood
This is a pretty park, with small ponds surrounding the campsites. The biggest disadvantage is that 6 lanes of I-25 are only a mile east and the road noise is easily heard. This is a very well maintained park, staff was friendly and I have never seen a dump / fresh station as nice in all of our travels.
For us, this stop was all about location. We have family in Brighton and needed something close by. This was a perfect spot for us.
Emilio Alvarez
Only reason it's not a 5 is proximity to the freeway and you can hear the traffic, it's clean had excellent camping sites with all the hook ups electric water and dump at every site. Busy but still a nice place to relax.
Karyl Rice
Noise, noise, noise. Beautiful ponds and wildlife. Great rangers that helped us jump our SUV. Clean showers and bathrooms.
Sarah Griffin
#9 is my favorite spot. Flat pads, a bit close to the highway, but seriously, to have such a little gem less that 30 minutes from my house, it's great for a quick overnight or midweek stay.
Luigi Ferrari
Stopped for the night. Nice spots for my big rig and toad. Pull through. Close to i25 but not noisy in my rig. Will visit again. Here you also have to add a Colorado State Park fee to the cost of staying here.
Julio Figueroa
Great place for fishing 🎣 everytime i go at least you take one fish home, there is like 5 ponds with different fish. Make sure you know the rules for each pond …
J List
Very nice! Clean, level sites. Covered tables. Did not use toilets. Convenient for overnight or would be a nice place to spend a few days.
Mark Brunette
Unique. Multiple fishing spots, some no bait. Camping spot was extremely close to the highway yet not 1 noise was audible enough to create discomfort.
Mihir Darji
Different small ponds and have nice bird photography possibilities.
colin madden
Mating pair of bald eagles that live in a giant tree, a blue Heron, one of the most beautiful views in all of Colorado and great rv sites. It's close to the highway but that really didn't bother us at all. Love this place.
Tyrone Hale
Nice place to fish in the morning, night not so much. Beautiful area to camp and spend time with family.
Jan Campbell
Wonderful relaxing time spent at St. Vrain. The park was clean and quiet. A nice surprise that it was open in March when so many others were not.
Jose Alvare
One of many spots in Colorado to fish with family and friends. Park is kept clean and the park rangers are friendly unlike some other parts.
Renee Tang
Great bird watching in December. Eagle, Heron and many Geese. Trails to walk around the ponds.
Elvis Pygmie
This park is tightly managed due to the Denver suburbs that has grown around it, giving access to more people and the potential for wrong doing and improper behavior. I thought the staff did a good job, though I felt rushed while breaking camp even though there were plenty empty spots. As far as the camping and day rate dual charges, I saved more than the day charge amount in diesel, due to the close proximity of stores and restaurants as compared to most parks we stay in. This park is good for get together's not so much as a "get away"
Shannon Tedford
Excellent trails...was in town for a wedding and wanted to get in some outdoor time!! Just beautiful!!
Raymond Soto Jr
Awesome views. Campsites always clean. Fishing was fun had different ponds with different species of fish.
Claire Hall
Tent camped here as we passed through Denver since it was the only campground with openings. Very humid which contributed to SO many bugs. Campsites are very exposed with no privacy and the RV’s lights made it hard to sleep in a tent. The showers and bathrooms were nice, covered picnic table and good price made it all just an ok visit.
Anon Anonymous
Fishing was good, bathrooms were as nice as they can be. The only drawback was that I25 is right next to it and you hear the traffic all night long. Other than that, it was a peaceful time
isavella valle
I love this place it's close to home I always catch fish it's got docks you can put trolley motors in all the ponds plus there is camping.
Jon Shive
Beautiful park with several ponds and the pelicans and osprey are amazing!
Chris Kampmann
Love Fishing here with my little one. It is a Colorado State Park so there is an admission fee. Restrooms and good accessibility for kiddos.
PursueSimpleLife
Had a training in Longmont and took my truck camper as my living arrangements. This place was great and super close to where my training was.
The good -
The RV spots all seem to be right next to or close to the ponds/lakes. The spaces are large and there is plenty of space between spots. Dump station on the way in/out. Water available at several spots within the park.
The bad -
The interstate is close so there is a lot of road noise. Bathrooms seem maintained but the showers are coin operated. On top of the RV site fee you must also have a Colorado State parks pass. Not being a Colorado resident I purchased it by the day - $7 per day. All totaled up that meant $31 per day to stay. Almost comparable to an RV park with free shower facilities.
All in all I would stay here again but I sure felt like I was getting nickel and dimed.
Wade
Nice little campground. Tons of places for the family to be outside. Just okay fishing.
John Becker
Remarkably good State Park / campground. Lots of nice sites, not crammed together - good spacing between. Only downside is the road noise from nearby I25.
Kirk Young
Several days when the I25 freeway noise was mostly doable. One morning was airport takeoff and landing every 3 to 5 seconds as the sound from the overpass woke us from sleeping around 6:30 am. Many factors will contribute to the overall sound level in your rig. Just be very aware it could become very unpleasant. A very cool surprise can be found at the NE corner of the park. A gate when open will allow you to go under the noisy freeway along a paved path to the east side of the freeway. This is not part of the park but has been set aside since 2000? for public access. Looks to be a great spot to fish the river after the freeway, a man maid concrete and boulder waterfall makes a nice pond below.
Christopher Marrs
Excellent park! Park rangers stop and talk with you, give you advice/recommendations. Tons of room between each site. FULL HOOKUPS! The views here were some of the very best I have had on my travels.
Joseph Kerski
Great trails and peaceful though some highway noise.
Sara Burns
If you can get over the hum of the I25 traffic, you're in for a treat. What a nice, clean, close to nature campground. Every site is on cement for easy leveling, picnic tables are under a sturdy shelter, and the fire pits were clean. Easy walk to many trails. Pelican pond actually had pelicans...a lot of them. Sat/Sun morning we woke to hot air balloons flying over. How did we miss this place for so long? Close to home for a quick unplugged weekend.
Zach Olander
One of the better state parks. RV accomodations are amazing. Lots of room for large rigs. Little pricey because they do ask for a parking fee everyday in addition to the RV spot fee. I had two cars with me so it was 18 dollars a day just to have my vehicles there.
Chef L
It was a bit of an early visit none the less it stupendous there were plenty of people out and about it was a decent day weather wise plenty of sunshine and a fair amount to see what in small quality quantities there was only one penguin and whatever there was was fascinating one of the birds that are posted in the park and I don't recall was up in a tree and with some fantastic pictures of him and in a few other things but it was some it was it was a lovely afternoon
scott p
I love this park cause its easy nature. 35 miles from Denver right off 25. And once you get there just park walk and enjoy
Stormy Peters
Nice, clean campground with full hookups, picnic tables and shade. Lots of ponds with good fishing. Great views of the mountains. No natural shade. Right by the freeway.
Beverly
Still a great place to stay. We stayed here last August on our way to Buffalo Bill State Park and liked it so much we returned this year. The park is very clean and had the vibe of a campground with the big city and all the conveniences only five minutes away.
Noise from I-25 is still a problem and most of it could be eliminated by building a noise barrier wall between the highway and park. Yes, easier said than done! Get a site farther back in the park and it is somewhat of an improvement. We did and do not like them adding the extra for every night you stay at the park. Use some of that extra fee to build that sound barrier wall. Beautiful sunsets.
Eric Richards
It's great for ice fishing and some quality family time.
Wes O'Hara
Friendly park staff and rangers. Great little fishing holes and camping looks like it would be good.
Andrew Cordova
Awesome place to take the family or go solo. Fishing, camping love this place go there at least once a week. If I could I'd give it 6 stars
Roxy J
The staff here (campground hosts & Park Rangers) are very nice. The ponds and wildlife are really very good for being by a major interstate that you forget about the road noise. I work remotely and the internet is phenomenal in this location. Really enjoy my stays at St. Vrain State Park!
d s
Great place to spend some time outdoors at the lakes with out traveling far.
Phil Ramsey
Nice state campground with view of Rockies. Large pull through FHU. Staff very helpful and friendly
Ricardo
Stayed here for a week and had a great time. Friendly and clean.
Hassaan Faridi
This is a very nice State Park. Lots of ponds to fish. Lots of space to sit around and have fun with family and friends. There are a few trails to walk. It's usually a busy place but you can always find spots to sit and BBQ. Quite a few shelters also. Great place to take the kids too. The bathrooms here are always clean. There are also showers for campers. You can pay/coins to start the showers.
Cindy Kratzer
This is a small state park with great camping sites, small ponds, walking and biking paths, and lots of birds, deer, and prairie dogs.
Therese Cockerline
Very nice, clean, quite , lots of space between rigs. Would definitely stay again .
Tony Hayes
Nothing special. We're traveling to see all the Colorado State Parks and this one is near the bottom. Right next to the freeway so loads of car noises. Nice paved trail, but that about it.
David Adolf
Great place to go for the day, or stay the night. Quick and easy place in the greater Denver metro area to go for an easy camping trip, or even a day use site. Amenities are kept up well. You can take a kayak or other self propelled small craft on any of the ponds, and there is wakekess craft allowed on Blue Heron Pond. Pelican Pond is very pretty, and is nice way to spend time on the water.
Deborah Hall
Close Colorado State Park to visit. Hiking trails, camping and fishing. Always clean and well maintained. Many different types of birds if you are into bird watching. Love this place.
Catherine Lukatchik
Amazing park to visit
Ben Abel
RV sites big and level. Nice paths to walk or ride your bike. Too close to the interstate though. Noisy as a result.
Danica
Beautiful area with relaxing sounds of I25 traffic. Was still a very nice place to go but very crowded.
Robert Buster
Many ponds to fish, fun camping, clean, open year round!
RV Skirting
Great place, lots of trails and every now and then a customer Call’s us to put on an RV Skirting. #SkirtyCurt
Jason Tippel
Great pull-through RV sites. Full hook ups. Every site had amazing views. The staff and rangers were great to work with, very friendly. The avian wildlife was spectacular.
Lisa Knecht
Beautiful spot...lake, trees...peace. Even the sound of the nearby I25 freeway was more of a white noise. As a solo female camping in my van, I felt very safe. Rangers patrolled the area regularly. It was clean and kept up nicely. Recommend highly.
Russell Dean
The lakes or ponds are great. They stock twice a year. They have camp sites as well as picnic tables. The majority of the lakes are park and walk around. The fishing is hit or miss. If you read the fishing info you will have better luck if your willing to fish with bait as well as lures. They have outhouse type of restrooms as well as a very clean running water shower and bathroom.
Douglas Hohulin
Very nice park but we stopped for just a short walk so didn't have a chance to use any of the facilities. Did see an eagle and heard there can be lots of other birds at the park.
Jim Kuiken
Great RV spots, perfect location, clean and extremely well priced!
Gary Bland
Went to the older tree area and really nice because the upkeep way better.
Erin
We absolutely love it here. It's always clean and the hosts and park rangers are so great.
Michael Valdez
Great place for taking the kids fishing.
Mary Kraft
Nice quiet campground. Lots of
small tree that will make great shade someday soon. A lot of work has been done on the park since the flood in 2013.
Very comfortable spots. We like it so much we stayed an extra night. Nice walking paths around the lakes and ponds. We will plan on staying here again when we visit our family in the area. Would recommend this park to friends and family. The price is great even with the purchase of a day pass.
LALA E.
Really a clean area. Park Rangers are friendly and take time to talk. The fish are small and not stocked since May. Would like to be able to drive around the big lake since it has so many rocks it's hard to bank fish.
Ashton D
Excellent view from almost any spot on site. I'd say it's definitely a little slice of heaven right outside the city. All the park hosts and rangers are very nice and male it feel like home.
Richard Rowe
A nice campground. We have stayed there several times and I am vexed every time I have to pay the daily use fee of (now) $9 in addition to the campsite fee. Isn't Colo making enough money from marijuana that they could drop that fee for campers?
Rev. Halia Brightwater Eldritch
We've been here several times. The area is beautiful (even if it is a bit more developed and modernized than I originally expected). There are a decent number of amenities available too, even for people that only have day passes. Bathrooms (bring your own hand soap though), showers (not free, but very low cost), water refill stations (free). The place is generally well kept and maintained.
One thing I have witnessed that I would sort of caution about: The Rangers here can sometimes be a bit over the top with technicality, nearly harassing people that aren't doing anything particularly harmful but technically not allowed -- while in so doing they miss out on actually providing the protection and other services they're supposed to.
But if you just follow the rules as best as possible, things should be fine. (And if there were less minor infractions, they could get on with their real jobs! It takes effort on both sides people lol)

Highway noise. If you don't like it, don't stay here. That said, we really enjoyed it here and we don't like highway noise. If it weren't for the noise this would have been a raving review. As it is, it's "just 5 stars".
The thing is, the lakes, the fishing, campsites, everything else is just perfect. Can wander for hours and not cover the whole park. General biking is good here too. And it's away from city through-traffic so even the road out is pretty quiet.
We stayed here twice because we liked it so much. Definitely will stay again if we're on our way through.
Now, if it weren't near the interstate? It would be a total destination location.
David Rebello
Very peaceful campground. The spaces are really far apart so you do not feel like you are on top of your neighbor line you do at most other campgrounds. Views of the mountains on the horizon are very nice. Many reviews mentioned noise from the highway but it never bothered us during our stay. Fire rings at every site. A Walmart just down the road to load up on all your supplies.
Jackie Kenkeo
We loved camping there. The full home ok up site that we had was awesome. Electrical and water and dump right there. No need to drive to another site to drop the black line. Very cool. We had pond-view the two days we were there. Very close to town. Didn’t need to drive far just to “getaway”. Lol
Martain Clark
Great place to go for first camping trip of the year. Anything goes wrong not far from home or a couple of R.V centers to get fixed before going on the longer trips!
Tara Wilson
Gorgeous and peaceful place to camo. Will definitely return!
Paul Anderson
Being Memorial Day, it was very crowded but the staff was very friendly and helpful so all in all it was a great experience
BEE-OCH Organics
We love how accessible these lakes are! Always a great day trip for the fam.
Jeanne Warren
We really enjoy camping at this state park. The mountain view is amazing and there are lots of shops to explore in Longmont. We especially loved the Habitat for Humanity Restore. The Kestral camp ground host did an amazing job preparing the sites for the next visitors.
Anthony Larson
As a lifetime resident of the Front Range I’ve driven past St Vrain State Park countless times commuting for work and have always seen the campers and fishermen and wondered how it would be; on one hand it was as I would expect right along I-25 but it was also surprisingly calm once the din of traffic became a back ground dull roar. The bird watching was excellent and the fishing was a real joy. The staff was more than nice when we showed up early for our reserved spot on Pelican Pond. It was a very nice experience and we look forward to our next stay and we would recommend it to any traveler.
Sailingdipity
Great little spot for on the water RVing all year round!
Charlette Rios
Very relaxing. The views by the lakes are great. Only thing is too many bees n mosquito's. Grass needs cutting more often but it is a great place.
Chris Garcia
Beautiful concrete pads with lots of space in between, but the freeway noise is not pleasant and the showers cost 75c for 4 minutes and Pelican loop one didn't even have hot water. Most aggressive Mosquitoes I've ever seen! Beware also that you must purchase a day pass plus camping fee.
Bailey
Great place to fish that's close to home. As a Fisher woman I must say I wish the fish and game officers or whomever patrols this place would monitor better what people take out of hear. I witnessed about 5 people in the same group fishing that spoke Spanish and had coolers full of fish that were not legal size. I tried to speech to them about there catch but they spoke no English. This was at Pelican pond. Otherwise nice place to fish close to home.
Judy Byler
Sites are large, with concert pads, shelter with picnic table.
Jack Dillon
Nice sites as long as you put distance between you and the freeway.
David Noftsker
Fish weren't biting. There are several different ponds in the park. We didn't know they each contained different types of fish. Look it up before you go. Also a state parks pass is required.
Kalli Johnson
This is a very nice place to camp and get good fishing in. I caught my first trout ever here! Spincasting seems to do the trick. The camp hosts on this trip were fantastic. They were very polite and gave our dogs treats. Each spot was perfectly cleaned and the gravel was raked, which you almost never see anymore. Great experience! Thanks!
Laura Shoufer
Beautiful state park. Can’t wait to come back and camp! Enjoyed a peaceful walk around the reservoir at sunset.
Stephen Castrogiovanni
Level sites, good utilities. Good fishing lake.
Hosts are polite and helpful. Rangers come aroud regularly to check for park passes and camping permits. The booth attendants checked us in quickly and had us on our way.
We stay here quite a bit. We really like it.👍
No problem with cell signal here.
Susi Long
A clean campground, you can see the mountains stays pretty quiet, enjoyed ourselves.. there are fire rings picnic tablesand a small shelter on each spot and , several very large ponds for bass fishing , catch and release only
Derek Bergin
Clean, well maintained. Lots of birds. Quiet if you are at the western end. Lovely place to spend a relaxing weekend.
Larry
Been going to this park most of the summer. great place, big tress in some areas, new area new trees have been added but its going to take a few years to grow. Most spots are near a pond so not far to walk to. People are friendly, as well as the staff. Park Rangers are driving by often, nice to see that. They do stop and talk plus they do verify you have correct licenses. Nice they check to make sure everyone is safe, Most camping spots are large for plenty of space. They do have full connections but we like the areas with large trees for shade. Very clean!
Mona Answer
This are is SO NICE. An abundance of wildlife. So close to I 225 but so laid back and nice🦅🦉🦆 …
Christina Hom
If you're into fishing it's great. Lots of small lakes to choose from. Terrain is flat. Very little else to see or do. Their bathrooms were nice and clean.
Mark Davis
I remember going to the "Barbour Ponds" many years ago when I was a kid. Well, this time I decided to take my family there and hope to show them the great time that I enjoyed as a youngster. The park is very nice. It is clean with many camping places marked out with lots of parking scattered throughout. As we entered, the person at the "shack" suggested which pond/lake to fish at due to a recent stocking event. Unfortunately, the fish seemed to evade my bait, much like that last star on my rating... although, I'd be very happy to find that last star when I find a fish to feed my family... I know they are in there because I saw others with some on a stringer, I just have to find a way to catch them. I'll keep trying for sure! Great job, Colorado!
Michael Lewandowski
WE LOVE IT HERE. It's a very clean and beautiful place for all ages to have fun. Our entire family fell in love with this cool little skate park. Every time we went back to visit, we continued to discover more great places and pieces around every corner; like a water play themed playground. A perfect spot to stop and spend some quality time outdoors and let the kids ride their bikes or scooters and skateboards. My son still asks at least every other day to go to this skate park.
Robert Gann
Very nice for a state park that close to the city. Bit toasty.. I'm not sure about the reservation only approach at this State Park. And, really, why does the State of Colorado need eye and hair color for a camping reservation? Cause they also sell fishing licenses and such, but u wasn't fishing. However, the lady who took the reservation on the phone (Theresa) was very nice.
LuAnne Wilson
Nice trails, wonderful camp hosts, good fishing.
William P
For 9 years my wife and I have enjoyed this park. The staff has always been amazing and well let's just say the eagles are awesome. Not sure how much you guys are payin' them eagles to be there for us, but...
Also the other visitors we interact with at the park, around the various lakes/ponds are there for the same reason, good fishing, solitude and excellent bird watching.
Fred
The fishing was good. The grand kids had a great time. I was a little disappointed in the park staff. After we had checked on I found out that in August Military and Vets got the entrance fee for free. I was not made aware of that until I had already paid. The park is close to I-25 so you can hear the traffic occasionally.
Ben Petersen
Campsites are nicely placed with plenty of room between, though most of them are RV sites and there's a good reason for it. Mosquitoes come out after dark and really bite you up, be sure to bring a lot of deep woods bug screen. Fishing was great and the paths between the lakes make it easy to get to the other side of one. Though Sandpiper was full of tiny sunfish and very slow. Check with the rangers before you go to a lake because of all the rules
Biplob Gauli
Nice little gem hidden right outside of Longmont.
Raymond Juhl
Great camping so close to home!
Bryan Smith
Very beautiful place quite close to Longmont, despite being adjacent to the interstate, it was actually very nice to visit. The sounds of cicadas, birds and foliage rustling in the wind are far more present than traffic.
Tiny-Mama's House
Cement pads for the camper, electric hookups, good space size, excellent views. The weekend sites fill up fast. Showers were good.
Les McDaniel
Great place to camp with the family. Fishing is great from beginner to advanced. Remember the lakes that names start with a B are catch and release. The daily bag limit on trout is 4. Clean camp ground clean facilities. Close to gas and propane.
E.S. Post
Great local camping place especially for RVs. Full service hook ups, several large ponds/small lakes for fishing and wildlife viewing. Easy flat trails for most anyone.
Location is within easy driving distance of multiple stores and services should you determine you need more supplies.
In all, one of our favorite local places to get away for a quick weekend.
Deborah Wells
Went on a long beautiful walk, had a picnic, bathroom was open.
John Matthews
Very nice campground and immaculately maintained.
Alan Dees
Great place to stay. RV spots are good with a decent amount of space. They only have electric sites but also have a dump/water station. Interstate is nearby but the noise isn't bad... Great price but unfortunately you can only stay 14 nights in 45 days, which is a state park rule.
Geoffrey Bruce
Faint traffic noise from I25 is my only complaint. Otherwise its a well run clean site with good fishing, peaceful lakes.
I do wish that fisher folk would not smike and distribute their stench and leave cigarette butts for others to clean up.
J Sherman
We spent two weeks here. There were only a few nice things. The ladies that worked at the gate were just awesome. Always a smile or wave, gave the dogs a treat. When the guys worked the gate it was the total opposite. We're a military family so dude fake it til ya make it! You may hate the gate, but you're the first impression of this park and you are terrible. The other issues were the bugs and weeds. If y'all would mow the bugs wouldn't be half as bad. I know with water close by there's going to be bugs, but this was so bad they stuck to the camper.
Tom Laura
It is a nice park. Rangers are kind and the woman at the front is nice. The lakes give you a feeling of being out of town, but your minutes away from a medium city with plenty of dining amd shopping. I took off one star because you can always hear the trucks on the highway. They are not overwhelming, but if your looking for the quite of being in the middle of no where you might travel closer the the mountains.
Al Urpsis
We love coming here. A bit too much road noise, but other than that it's a great park. This is our second year to come here and plan to do it again next year. We're in a 50 ft diesel pusher parked next to tent campers. It's very low key.
Pam Ippel
This park is close to I-25 and there are a lot of bugs and mosquitoes from The Small Ponds, but beyond those two negatives, their staff is great and pleasant, the camping sites are spacious and trails are easy and well maintained. The proximity to the Boulder area worked great for us there is a lot to do in Boulder and Longmont and we weren't at the campsite most of the time.
Chris Boken
Bald Eagle Pond is the best lake to fish in the area, in my opinion. The only bad part about this park is the uneducated and lazy people that leave bad reviews because they think the park can do anything about the highway close by, or that it's crowded because people like going there or because they had a bad experience with their RV because they are too lazy to camp like men. My only real complaint is when people use these lakes for recreational type purposes when there are much bigger lakes in Colorado with much worse fishing you could do that in, but it's their world, we are all just living in it. The staff does an excellent job, the people visiting are the ONLY problem.
Arnie Gutierrez
Great place to camp love it
Corey Pemberton
Very nice park, nice walking paths also
Summer Tee
A nice state park with RV/camper full hook ups and tent camping where you may fish, kayak, or and walk - bathrooms are available. Daily passes are $9.00 or purchase a family or annual park pass that gets you into all state parks across Colorado.
Bill Lindenmayer
Campground is always clean. Lots of wildlife and birds to watch. Nice lakes to fish in but, because of its location it gets hit hard. Sites are the right distance apart to provide some privacy.
Julie Cherry
The north part of this Park is the older, original part of the park. It has water and electric, as well as a building with flushie toilets and “pay for showers”. There are also some pit toilets in the area. The park is littered with ponds all over everywhere for fishing ONLY! No swimming, not even your dogs, as it has a large amount of fishing line and hooks in it, unfortunately. Please recycle your fishing line using the PVC piping stands that are available. There a many trails around the ponds that you can walk; as well as, the roads, etc.
The south side of the park is newer and has full hook ups. The pads for RVs are cement and level. There are flushy toilets in the south side of the park, but no buildings for showers. It’s all set up very nice. The people who work in the park, Rangers and Volunteers are all very helpful. The only draw back is Hwy 25! That highway is a major thoroughfare from Denver to north CO and Wyoming. The hum of the highway is constant, 24/7. So I would recommend getting a spot as far west in the park that you can. If you are only passing through for 1 night, any spot will do as you can run your A/C. We stayed there for 1 week in our motorhome and currently are in Gillette, WY. The silence is Golden. I guess there are a lot of homeless here at night, but I never felt unsafe.
My disclaimer: “there is no such thing as the perfect RV campground/park. Do your research and pick the one that best meets your needs”. Also note, you need to plan your trips farther in advance as recreation vehicles are being produced by the thousands each year and RV parks/campgrounds are being created at a minimum, if any
Texas Gal
July, 2014. A very nice State Park that has fully recovered from Sept 2013 flood damage. Beautiful pond-side FHU campsites, that in addition to level concrete pad, surrounding area is raked level and swept after each departure. Has u-pay showers and spotless restroom facilities. No wifi. A great park for birding; we had great view of Bald Eagle fledglings in their nest, plus saw Blue Herons, Canadian Geese, Red Wing Blackbirds and several species of flycatchers. In addition to nightly fee, unless you have annual park pass, you will be charged an $7 daily access fee. Would definitely stay here again!
Whitney Thompson
We had a wonderful stay at this state park. We stayed for 6 days. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Loved the views and the trails that looped around all the ponds. The best thing about this park was the RESTROOMS. The shower pressure was from heaven and it almost felt like the floors were heated. There were no washer and dryers but Longmont was just about 15 mins away and had several Laundry Matts. The people there were mostly very friendly and kept to themselves. We did come into contact with a girl that was living in her car parked by the bathrooms, so every time we took a shower she would be in there telling us how she lost everything and was homeless. I definitely felt as if she was preying on the people that would use the restroom for sympathy or money. But other than that, we had no problems and would definitely stay again.
Veronica Martinez
The fishing is good for kids. They can easily catch small fish. The atmosphere was cozy, but not the best. Good place for camping. Beautiful mountain views.
Mason Kirk
Very large and beautiful picnic area.
ED Baker
Only got use the dump station the camping was full. The ranger was awsome. The place looks well maintained and were hoping to stop by for a few days on the way back threw
Cynthia Conner
It's a 1.3 nature hike..not bad at all few shades..
judy bourne
It's our go-to to test the new RV. We plan a weekend and then figure out all the things that need to be addressed by the dealer. Visited St Vrains when we bought our 5th wheel and now the motorcoach. It's private but close to I25.
Paula Oberley
Well maintained. Clean camp sites. Too close to I-25(noise). Nice addition would be convenience store where one could buy food, drink, bait for fishing, etc.
frank
Great for kids. And catching stocker trout
Rebecca Rader
Lots of bald eagles this time of year. Beautiful land! Not too far from the city, but just enough to escape the fast pace for a little while
Rebecca Holm
a little windy but otherwise very nice place to camp!
Barb Schmetzer
This is beautiful campground. The sites are generously sized with a covered picnic table at each one. It is a quiet, serene landscape. I will definitely put this one on my list of parks to return to in the future.
sammi jamieson
Had a great time at St. Vrain State Park, the camping sites were really clean and we even caught a few fish. The downside is check out is at noon and the camp host watched us for 2 hours and gave me the impression he wanted us to leave before check out time. If check out time is noon then they have until noon to check out. If they need more time to clean the sites before the next guests arrive then change the check out time to 2:00.
rachel riley
So many birds. Hawks, eagles, water foul including great blue heron! We saw birds fishing and building nests, the kids loved it. Trails meander through various ponds, all easy flat terrain. Fishing, biking, walking, bird watching. Only downside is that you can hear the interstate off in the distance.
Brent Bingham
Saint Vrain (formerly Barber Ponds).. an oasis just outside the city offers an outdoor experience right along the Saint Vrain river and has 11 separate ponds to fish and explore. Quaint and homey. Lots of RV camping and definitely a "family fun experience ". Look elsewhere for secluded out back "lost in the wilderness " experience, this is definitely an "off the highway " gem destination with instant immersion. Have fun.. open 24 hours. ...also.. shhhh... dont tell any one. It's a secret.
Lori Jackson
Beautiful area. Grew up fishing in the ponds here. Camping and great memories!
Endeavor
Beautiful little park, I come here with friends on the weekends, relaxing getaway from all the traffic. Kid friendly and good views. The water animals and birds make a nice atmosphere too, recommend 10/10.
Erick Rose
$45 to camp per day, for what? 20 is average anywhere else, ill go elsewhere, probably full of tourist anyway, but looks nice ,just not $45 a night nice..
Sarah T
Went here for the 1st time a few days ago and love all the fishing options. So many lakes to choose from. My son's caught their 1st bluegill while we were here.
John Mazur
A beautiful nature park here. We saw some Bald Eagles roosting here. A must see for bird watchers. You have to move around a bit and keep your eyes open, but lots of stuff to see. Not perfect, but so close to suburbia and so close to nature.
Randy Johnson
I drive 30 miles, twice a week to fish Mallard and Sandpiper ponds. It' a great park. I see the eagles every time I'm there.
Chris Rodriguez
Well kept, nice level spots with electricity or full hookups, relatively quiet the farther the spot is from the freeway. Fish, turtles, geese, and birds, including bald eagles. Shower house (pay) and flush toilets, lots of level walking paths.
Jose Carrillo
Love this place I go every year with my family to spend Easter day there, just wish I could catch some fish
IG: New.age.nomads
Nice place with lots of trails. Spots have plenty of room between them. Lakes to fish- although we didn't try. Close to shopping and food but still feels like a state park. It was pretty cool.
nick lohman
Convenient location to i25. Clean, level, large sites with a great view of the mountains. A little dusty and short on shade. Interstate noise wasn't that bad even in the closest site to the highway couldn't even hear it in the camper.
Christopher Doughty
Nice and clean. New 10 foot concrete sidewalk is great. 10000 feet long
Richard Bailey
Great place. Love all of the ponds and trails. Camp sites are so easy to set up.
Mike Hayes
We were their in September, very nice.,one of the better campsites we have been,to in CO. Full hookups, cement slab. Covered picnic table, by the water, watch, out for mosquitoes!
Close to everything, including direct route to Estes Park
Nicholas Carmichael
Quite peaceful good fishing make sure to make a reservation if you want a camping spot but great for day trips as well
Sandy York
This was a great place for a weekend or a couple weeks. Beautiful spacious sites with level concrete RV pads, shelter, picnic table and fire pit. Restrooms but no showers. Try to get a spot away from highway noise if possible.
Phil Lindsey
Nice campground/ day area. Many ponds to fish and a boat ramp too. We really enjoy it
Nick Muhlnickel
Clean and well maintained. Good fishing and a good place for a picnic or just a quick walk. Saw many rare birds and a muskrat there.multiple lake areas great for kids
Brad S
Quiet peaceful place to camp and fish especially after they’ve just restocked the lakes.
Mack Hubble
Went to fish, but had a better time bird watching. Fishing is easily accessible and bird watching is fun while walking the trails.
Joseph Kreutzer
Good place to view the front range! 2 eagles hanging out.
James Baer
Good well kept, state park.
Lots of campsites, and lots of shoreline to fish from. Fresh pumped drinking/cooking water to every arm of campsites.
William Koehler
Just gorgeous absolutely beautiful prices were totally reasonable too no hookups worked great we had a little bench with a windbreak little picnic bench so it was just fantastic I recommend anybody who cans checks it out
Zulikha Neumann
It was okay. Not much to see, but close to lots of things. The campground does have a lot of highway noise day and night. Good views of the mountains. It wasn’t anything special, but not terrible either.
gordon gibson
Awesome fall colors in quiet peaceful surroundings
Ray Johns
Great place to camp for a few days. And not to far they have all the hook up a camp site needs and the price is just right.
Jenny Combs
The ranger was really nice to us and explained the rules of fishing very well. Beautiful place to camp and fish
Doc
Catch fish everytime we come, they usually take the purple trout putty we use
On the poles. Great place to enjoy the day
Tom Treat
Your opinion of St. Vrain State Park will depend entirely on your perspective. If you're an interstate highway traveler you'll be impressed by the number of sites on the water, the fact that you didn't have to stray far from your route to get here, and the proximity to Fort Collins and the Denver area. If you're a local, you'll find yourself wondering why you chose a spot so close to I-25 with the persistent noise of traffic and the glow of the green and red numbers from a gas price billboard. As a Longmont resident, I'll stick to the mountains.
dwayne rincon
Very clean campsite, clean restrooms and showers fishing was good many bites only landed 1 (that's my fault) RV dump was clean with potable water.interstate was noisy
David Erickson
Great staff.
Clean sites.
Nice lakes and ponds.
And they stock Trout for fishing.
We have been several times, and shall return.
Chad Hightower
Great place to camp. Good spots, great staff on hand. Thank you Sr. Ranger Sean for the great spot. Troop 414 says Thank You
Aaron Kornmueller
Was awesome! Between 3 of us pulled in 18 rainbow trout in 2hrs. Was well worth the $7.00 day pass fee. Great for kids too!
Timothy Matthews
My only complaint would be their proximity to the interstate. That said, it sure doesn't detract from the overall beauty or the opportunity to observe the assorted wildlife populating the area.
Mistrr Clouds
Pros: restrooms, dumpsters, multiple ponds, reservation based, easy access.
Cons: sound of highway, can see arbys sign from some spots, not all spots ideal for tent camping.
Valerie Bradbury
Beautiful views& lots of room.nice bike& walking trails. My dog loved it.Will come back
Len Davisson
Beautiful park, well-maintained. Lots of birds & fish.
The nearby freeway is just white noise
Noe Martinez Diaz
This is a great park. We were also to see a bald eagle when there was snow in the ground.
Indi jones
Good camper spot. Ponds for fishing. Easy access.large sites with minimal trees. Lots of wild life around. Very scenic.
Frank Cartwright
The ice is not great; however; people very helpful. Sand piper stocked up last October, and my need for fishing is HUGE!!!
Marlene ihrie
The park is clean, the sites are level, the showers are located very inconveniently (you have to break camp a d drive to them if you don.t have a site close) then you have to pay to shower, pay to fish....on the plus side being convenliently located by the Interstate there are many amenities close by.
Jan Dover
Campground was kept very clean and we'll maintained. Great camping experience. We will be back!
Nicole Taylor
Annual b day camping trip with my boyfriend. Close, convenient and nice place to get away to. Only bummer is we can hear the highway..
Nic D
Great camping spot if you're into fishing. Beautiful sunset mountain views. Just don't look east, I-25 is visible from your campsite
Pierre Levasseur
Great camping experience!
Katrina Kerstiens
Nice picnic areas with grills but gets crowded quickly on the weekends. Can still see the highway from campsites though
Justin Williams
For how many people there were camping the lake was not very crowded. Nice and clean facilities.
Meredith Evans
The park is a lovely awaysis, but it is between two very busy freeways. There are full hookups, no Wi-Fi, and lovely trails and waterways.
Jackie Stanely
I love going there I go by myself an feel doing so. The last few times I went didn't catch anything but it was nice a relaxing.
Ben Pearson
It's a very clean n quite place. Only draw back is unless u reserve all your night at 1 spot u get charded 10 a night online fee. It's hard to find spots so a Friday n Saturday spot. U have to move from a spot to the other spot n have to pay 10 dallors for each night online fee . Come on 1 cart at checkout 1 fee
Yadhav Upadhaya Bhattarai
Place is good but not lots of fish, we fish for 2 hours and walk with 0 fish. Good place to camp and hangout with friends and families.
Dee Fine
Great day!! Caught lots of trout, mostly all of them were too small, but at least we caught them!!

Bill Michaud
Super friendly staff. Clean bathrooms and showers. Only negative is a major highway is nearby. Traffic can be heard 24-7.

Great park. Only drawback is the proximity of I25. Traffic noise when camping is too much
Joseph Chavez Sr
