Reviews of Eldorado Canyon State Park
Kathrine Reynolds
BEAUTIFUL state park that you won’t regret visiting! I go here several times a year since I live only 10 min away in Boulder. As a local, this is one of my all-time favorite parks to hike, picnic with friends, or watch rock climbers while just enjoying the views! Parking can sometimes be an issue on weekends or holidays, but I always find a spot on weekdays, which I prefer since I don’t love crowded times. All the hikes are amazing, and there’s something for all levels of skill. We even love filling up our water bottles at the local Eldorado Canyon spring water station literally right outside the entrance. It’s the best water and very clean! You can’t go wrong with a trip to this gorgeous canyon!

El Dorado Canyon State Park is an amazing get away close to the front range. It's a climbers haven and has an amazing river that runs right through the middle of it. The park can get packed very quickly so you should be prepared to show up early as the parking spaces are dispersed and it can be hard to find a spot at your exact desired location at times. My favorite hike is the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail. It takes you through the forest and up to the continental divide outlook which has amazing views towards the mountains and great views towards the front range as well. You can also see the train that runs up on the ridge from this trail which is pretty neat to see in person! One word of caution, there was one visit we had where 4 cars were broken into so just as with all parks, don't leave your valuables in your car! Enjoy this beautiful park and all it has to offer... especially after a fresh snow where the snowflakes cling to the forest and mountains!

Really cool location, especially for a quick morning visit with kids. Very walkable. There is an short little cave walk next to the main parking lot. Even coming in and driving the canyon is certainly worth the cost and trip. There is a spring just outside the park that you can pay about 50 cents fro a gallon. It is nothing to write home about as far as taste but it's clean spring water and notable.
Kat Pittman
One of our favorites close to Denver. Gets busy so consider going during the week or taking the free shuttle at 36 and Mcaslin. Lots of climbing opportunities and hiking trails. The crags hotel ruin and continental divide overlook is our favorite. Bring a picnic to enjoy by the river after a day of hiking. Dog (on leash) and kid friendly.
Christine Smith
Absolutely spectacular place to visit. Lots of trails. Try to map out your hike ahead of time and shoot for a parking area near its trailhead. Nice picnic area and access to the creek at the top of the road in the visitor center.
LP Johnson
Great hiking trails with some beautiful views! Family, dog, and friendly to hikers with different skill levels. The drive there alone had some wonderful views. One of our favorite places to go hiking in Colorado for sure!
Jeremy Lesser
Absolutely stunning park. Came on a Sunday in late September and it wasn’t too crowded. Amazing views, you feel like you’re close to the heavens. A must see for anyone in the area. 10 dollars to enter, but it’s worth it.
Chris Hedrick
I would say this is one of the more scenic State Parks. The terrain is amazing and a ton of trails for different skill levels. There is a small fee, but well worth it. There is a small homestead site/remains as well.
John Bundy
One of the Better State Parks in the Denver area. The road is a little rough going through Eldorado Springs. So, be careful if you have just a normal low clearance vehicle. The trails are very easy to navigate. Nice views of Downtown Denver (on a clear enough day) if you get far enough in. Maybe around the 4 or 5 mile mark.
Cana Vollmar
This was such a fun experience for my family and I. We went on the rattlesnake trail to go to the Continental Divide overlook!! The trip was about 3.5 miles round trip!! Perfect place for a fun hike with family/friends.
Mark Howells
As always, Eldorado was an enjoyable experience. It is honestly the best place to go if you want a quick trip outside of the city to be in the mountains.
Spectacular views, climbing, easy parking, great hikes (again, the views) and even a nice visitor center.
It is our go to whenever someone from out of town comes due to its proximity, ease and oh yeah, the views. 😁
Would definitely recommend a trip there if you haven't been.
Adriana Maldonado
This park is marvelous! I will say the entrance to the park is a bit sus, but just make your way through it, and drive up as far as you can! There is a little gift shop at the top. It has the most beautiful views up the farthest you can go.
Angela K
I love coming to this state park. It is absolutely beautiful. I love the rushing water and watching the mountain climbers. It is a good place to go if you have visitors who don't want to hike, but want to see some beautiful views. The drive out to the park is a little confusing at first, but trust if you are on a bumpy road in a little tiny town, you are on the right track!
Veronica Botts
Beautiful place with excellent views. Wish we planned better and had more time to explore. $10 entry per car. If you need the bathroom, use the visitor center, nice and warm.
Veronica
I absolutely love the nature walk with the informational signs. Other trails in the area are good too! We hiked to the ruins of the hotel and it was cool to learn about that on a hike. It's cool to see all the climbers too.
Mihir Darji
The place near to the the Denver and really nice trail. Rock climbers are here to get better views from the top of the rock!
Creek passing through the park is really nice place.
Picnic area at the visitor center is enough for a happy family! One can pick up favourite food with them and have a nice picnic.
B D
Absolutely beautiful! The river was raging, which made it even more beautiful. There's plenty of easy trails to go on. Be careful going up on Fowlers when it's hot, lots of huge rattle snacks and they're pretty close to the trail, on the rocks. People will usually warn you. They were out in the evening also.
Klara Cheung
$10 parking fee but totally worth it. There were several trails at this park. We opted for the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail that led to Crags Hotel Ruins and the Continental Divid Overlook. This was about 3 miles and it was not strenuous. Perfect for a hot day since there was plenty of shade. It was pretty populated and there are some short steep areas. You can brings dogs on leash here and there is a great view of the top.
I would love to come back and experience the other trails in this park.
Mandolin Summer
A great first place to hike in the Colorado mountains during winter! We had a perfect day to enjoy the trails- the scenery was amazing and seeing a deer with her dawn was the icing on the cake. Wonderful experience.
Shawna
Good state park, my dog loves creeks so after our first hike he was happy to lay down in the creek (which was freezing that particular day) by the parking lot to cool off.
Josh Limanen
What a beautiful place to visit! The river is fun for the kids to play in, high cliffs and mountain climbers, picnic areas. It cost $10 to get in with a car.
Kathleen Azzopardi
This is a more-than-moderate hike at Eldo it was about 6 miles round trip. Due to us not being used to the elevation it felt like a climb. Gorgeous views of the Rocky Mountains and surrounding areas. Bring your camelback full of ice and water!
Jenna Odem
This place was absolutely beautiful and had some great hiking trails and picnic areas. It also looked like a great spot for climbers!! I would definitely suggest checking out the different hiking trails before parking. We parked at the very first parking lot and ended up walking part of the way up the road before going back to get the car and moving it to another parking lot.
Patrick Ryan
The was a great Hike to enjoy the Front Range. Continental Divide overlook was really nice and not too hard a hike. Very well marked and can be done by inexperienced hikers, just leave yourself a little time to rest. Plenty of views to make "rest" time very enjoyable
Melinda Heath
This a beautiful place. Only 10 dollars for a vehicle. We went in the evening on thursday.. It was not busy at all. The sunset was amazing.
Isaac Slings
Amazing trek. Definitely make sure you're hydrated before making the expedition. As a flat lander the following 36 hours were crushing but it's better to prepare and be properly dehydrated than slamming 6 energy drinks
Brian Fontanella
Very cool park there is not much to it, it’s mostly for rock climbers and they do charge a nominal fee to enter which seemed a bit od.
teodora moga
A great place to enjoy nature. Either it being fiahing, hiking or rock climbing for the professionals or amateurs, this park has it all. I love the easy access to the piknick area and the fact that tables are right by the river. Kids always have so much fun playing in the water 💧. Close to the city, it's a great place to enjoy the outdoor and disconnect or recharge
Eric Foster
My favorite hiking / trail running spot when I come to Boulder. Great views. Decent elevation and a solid trail. Usually see a few people but not terrible. Most people I see are rock climbing.
Annalynn Cameron
Beautiful hike and good exercise haha. Just might be our new favorite spot to hike near us
Cathy Hughes
November, and our first time here. We stopped to see the waterfall, then drove to the Visitor Center. (It had just closed). Took the trail up for about a mile, then back down. Easy enough for us, not used to climbing but in healthy shape and 50+. Beautiful views and trees! And the amazement of seeing climbers at the top of the cliffs...whee! Blustery day and totally worth the entry fee.
Abdulaziz
Beautiful state park. Looking forward to seeing it in the summer. The vehicle pass is $10.
Dave Chiasson
One of our favorite hikes. Has so many beautiful elements: creek, trees, interesting canyon walls, beautiful views.
Sade Corbin
The park is absolutely gorgeous! Wonderful areas to hike, beautiful water, restrooms at the bottom, loved watching the rock climbers. Great family day, can't wait to go again
Ibrahim Alshammari
I really liked this place. It’s very near to mountains. Also, there are many trailheads.
Austin Banks
Excellent views of the Divide and Boulder County. Great hiking with the potential to run into historic sites such as hotel ruins, and what looks to be an old railway tunnel.
Ruby Whitehead
This state park looks small driving through it but do not let that fool you. Check out everything it has to offer. Great hikes, mountain climbing, nice views.
Irene Lopez
Went mememorial day weekend 2022 again. This place is so gorgeous.... I love the energy the people are so nice so many fur dogs. All picnic areas are first come first serve, so they aren't reserved. Beautiful trails and views.
Our family went the 4th of july 2021 weekend..park was full so we got shuttled we waited infront of the gas station. Shuttles run every 15 min or so the entrance per person over 15 years old was $4, we took our Cooler and were dropped off in picnic area it was so beautiful. We left our Cooler to explore came back and our Cooler was in same area. We loved it here. Some family told us we couldn't go into there area because they reserved it including the stream but I didn't see any signs stating that only how many people were allowed.
Aaron H. Bennish
Picnic in the beautiful and friendly Eldorado State Park. Hiking, biking and climbing trails. Sat on a bench by the Eldorado creek. Bottling plant is immediately outside the park entrance. If you going to the end of the hiking trail, the continental divide can be seen!
Karl Deschler
One of the top places to go in Colorado. Be aware now the reservation system can ruin your weekend. 30 yrs climbing here now i need a reservation. Not thrilled
Cynthia Beard
One of my favorite places. The Fowler Trail is somewhat wheelchair-accessible. It’s not paved, but the first part of the trail is fairly flat and pretty smooth overall. Some trails are strenuous, while others are doable for visitors who aren’t acclimated to the high elevation. Plus, the park is gorgeous year-round, and of course the rock-climbing is world-famous.
Angel McNeley
Just a short drive from Denver, just pass the town of Eldorado Springs this is a beautiful little park to go hike, mountain/ cliff climb, fish, or just relax by the creek. Road is narrow so go slow slow and remember the"give right away to uphill traffic" rule for everyone safety. I believe the cost was only$8 but we used our State parks pass.
We look forward to coming back again soon and maybe enjoying the neighboring swimming pool in town. Speaking of town, please be slow through here also, tamales live there and it's narrow and windy roads. We enjoyed the unique yard art as we drove through.
Denise Schroedl
Beautiful, lovely place for a hike along the river. Fun to watch the cliff climbers. One gal fell and thank God she was hook on. Fun to watch but nail biting.
Enjoy your time we did.
Merrie Sabota
The majesty of the mountains is both awe inspiring and calming at the same time. Simply. Beautiful. The trail we hiked was clean and well kept as were the parking lots and road. I can't wait to go back and explore this state park again!
Thomas Hornik
This is a very scenic State park, which is very popular. There is no parking allowed outside the park entrance, and you have to pay to enter the park (even if you are walking into the park!). A narrow barely two lane road winds through the park with small parking areas along the way. At the far end of the road, there are a few mid-sized parking lots, as well as a small nature center with a gift shop and clean indoor toilets. That being said, there are outdoor toilets near most of the other parking lots, but these are equivalent to a brick-and-mortar portable toilets.
As mentioned, this park is very popular (which means crowded). A variety of picnic areas with tables and grills are located in the park. Make sure you arrive early to park your vehicle, because the many small parking areas fill quickly. There are quite a few scenic hiking trails, but not all of the parking areas have immediate access to these trails.
C Tang
Quite the surprise. Eldorado is definitely worth the visit if you are in the Boulder area. Beautiful views and great hiking trails. There is very limited parking and some of the roads are very narrow and you need to yield.
Kurtis Barlow
Awesome canyons, great for a drive, climbing or hiking. Absolutely beautiful! Can be very busy on weekends but there is a free shuttle into the park when the parking logs fill up. Highly recommend checking this place out! Probably the best of Boulder!
Michael Reed
Located the underground utilities at this place, it's still being renovated. Talked to the owner and he stated that the pool will be open next spring better than ever.
Melanie Crow
They have nice places to grill by the water. They don't reserve spots but they have a good amount of space. No camping at this park. They have a few trails easy and harder ones. There is a nice river walk trail with little waterfalls. There are spots you can get your feet wet.
Mike Whalen
One of the little gems that can get crowded, but is quite fun to hike!
Liam Waghorn
Beautiful park and climbing. Not a lot of parking considering how much there is, get there early if it’s the weekend.
Dara Bilow
Beautiful little surroundings. A great place to explore for the afternoon.
Roasted Scorpion
The scenery is beautiful, but it was crowded, REALLY crowded considering there was snow and mud everywhere still, and the high temp for the day was in the 50's! Its difficult to navigate passing of cars on the narrow one-car going one way at a time roads, and finding parking was challenging. I also noticed that the rocks lining the creek were obviously placed there purposefully, by the truckload, because they looked like the manufactured "glittery" rocks you often see in public shopping centers or parks. I personally prefer the more natural, less trafficked wilderness, but that's me. After all, I go to nature to escape the population.
Ryan Shelton
Fowler trail was amazing! Only 1.5 total miles out and back and has some incredible views. Fairly flat the whole time. We started Rattlesnake Gulch/Crags Hotel Trailhead and went to the hotel ruins. It is quit steep and gains a lot of elevation but has some good views at the top as well. Both are dog friendly
Teddy Randall
If you get their at a good time of day you can see the rock climbers. We were a little late getting there and it was a super hot week. The climbers were pretty much done for the day. Watch out for rattle snakes!
Casey Barrett
Just a beautiful area. $10 for your car to get in for a day pass. So many fairly easy trails, but also some very challenging rock climbs. Highly recommend. The visitors center is cute and the people there are very friendly.
Rajesh Damani
Amazing! Great experience with mountain and creek! Loved the hike there.
I just wish the parking issue is resolved by the state park, most often, can't get entry as there is no parking space available, but since the park is in high demand, should add more parking spaces.
Kummi Ka
This is an iconic Colorado state park! This park has amazing rock cliffs, valleys, fast moving stream/creek, and great trails with plenty of wild flowers especially late spring to early summer. One of my favorite places for trail running and hiking. Often first place I take out of town guests.
mattyd
Love this park! Hiking never disappoints here. The views are amazing! If you're not looking for a challenge and want an easy walk, hit the Fowler Trail. This may inspire you to hike the more difficult trails.
Green Eyes
Relax and enjoy nature at its best , loved this place can't wait to go back !❤️❤️❤️❤️
Gabriel Williams
Easy hike, beautiful views! Several nice places to stop and rest, snack, etc.
Alejandra Paredes
Absolutely gorgeous! Only problem is that you have to make reservations if you want to go weekends or holidays. I liked it better when you could go places if you feel like it. Now, everything is complicated. Be aware of the parking situation, You cannot park in town!
Chelsea Hayton
It's a beatiful place. Probably more loved among the climbing community as you see many climbers up in cliff faces driving in. Parking can be difficult if it's busy like on weekends. Only 2 hiking trails to choose from but both are nice. One you get views of Denver eventually, which is a good turn around spot for an out and back hike since otherwise the trail keeps going. The other hike takes you to a spot where there used to be an old hotel. Interesting historic place. You can see the continental divide from there as well.
Seval
I fell in love here, breathing plenty of oxygen and fresh air. I had a great day and I was refreshed. beautiful place. I wish I lived there, it's a paradise hidden among the mountains, you can hike or climb if you want
Nicole K
One of our favorite places for family hikes! We've taken visitors to the state here and have gotten rave reviews. There is a flat, accessible trail with amazing views for less experienced/lower ability level. Rattlesnake Gulch is a must, if you can do it (it is closed in Spring for Golden Eagle nesting). After the first leg of the hike there's a cool water tunnel, just off the path to the left before the bridge.. Icy in winter, spikes needed.
Birdie Manu
Drive through a tiny town to get to parking area, $10 per vehicle for a day pass. Beautiful place to hike or climb. Easier hikes for families (like Fowler Trail), moderate hikes for everyone else (Eldorado Canyon Trail is steep but beautiful). We went on a Saturday and it was fairly busy, but not too crazy. It was nice to see all the people and dogs out having a walk. Currently picnic areas are closed due to Covid but they look like they’d be nice to use when they’re open again. We saw two humming birds while hiking!
Renee Tang
Love this beautiful park. The canyon gives a great variety of stuff to do including watching climbers, walking up the canyon trails or play in the crystal clear water. The lighting of sun and shade is great for photos.
James Hume
Well maintained trails and great canyon views.
Malcolm Chandler
Beautiful, we came right after a snow storm and the hike and views were fantastic. Should be noted that none of the roads in the park are cleared after snow and the entire park, including the entrance, is on a narrow incline. We struggled with our rental that wasn't equipped with snow tires or chains and were only barely able to make it to the second parking area.
Cortney Palm
What a beautiful park. I only picked up one piece of trash, so it's well maintained. The trail was steep with "bouldering" and scrambling. But it was easy and fun. The river was flowing strong. I conducted a mini water blessing ceremony for gratitude towards this amazing life source, and prayed for compassion & love for all the water comes in contact with. Bathrooms were clean. Parking lots. Well marked trails. Great for rock climbers and bouldering. Dogs welcome on leash. Great vegan eats nearby in Boulder. 🙏💚
Sam Thomas
A really nice place for Rick climbing, but not limited to that. The trails are beautiful, enjoy the fall colours too if you are visiting on fall season. Picnic table are available, I the once near the stream. A nice place for kids too.
Cohinta Cuevas
The most beautiful and magical place ever!! I totally recommend it ❤️
Patricia Torres
Ok came here last Fall 2020 and it was gorgeous. Weather was perfect for a hike. Also highly recommended going on a weekday where there isn’t that many people. Did it while 23-weeks pregnant. Took me a while but it was worth it in the end.
Brian Baker
Went here on a whim and was very happy that I did! Awesome canyon walls. Flowing river strewn with boulders and falls. Challenging hikes. Plenty of places to climb. Inspring views. Relaxed picnic areas right on the water. Nice visitor center and bathroom facilities. Fun to drive!
Alex Juel
We were a little confused driving through the little town to get to the park. We thought maybe we took a wrong turn, but nope, that's how you get in!
We had a great time. It's $10 to get in. Right after paying you can walk down to the river and put your feet in!
Make sure to check the map before picking a trail because there are some very technical trails. We had a 6 year old so had to turn back and ended up going the easy trail on the dirt road.
Jenni Jane
Beautiful! Trails, picnic area, dog friendly, bike friendly, rock climbing awesome spot to play in the cool creek. Can’t wait to go back there are so many nice spots walk, hike, or to sit and enjoy. Great park for everyone!
Kaleigh Shipman
My favorite stop on our family trip to CO was this park! The views are incredible and there’s tons of space to explore. Would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the area!
Tiffany Esola
Stumbled upon this park on pinterest and it was a great find. The flower trail hike was easy and scenic. I can't remember the other trail but that one was personally exhausting and pushing my limits. Not a serious hiker here so don't let me discourage you. It is absolutely a place to visit or climb. Trails are clearly marked and are pet friendly. We came a little late in the morning but there was plenty of available parking. I believe the entry fee was $9 a person or car. Cell phone service is spotty so plan ahead your trail. Once you get high enough you can pick up minimum service.
Gabrielle Ysaguirre
We drove into the park, paid 8$ at the entrance. There was a public restroom in the first area of parking spaces. the restrooms were typical hole in the ground type that I see at most trails, and I don't love it. the park itself is amazing! In the beginning of the park, as we drove in, we could see a few groups of climbers coming up the side of the walls of the mountains on the lefthand side. And on the right side, was a bridge and the whale tail rock, and these led to two trails going in opposite directions and in between that was a sign that said expert trail which pointed up and looked scary! We explored around both non expert trails and while the one to the left just kept going further up, the other led down to the water and along the little body of flowing water. We decided to drive further into the park and found a nice pool with larger rocks and some sand. it was pretty amazing and was so peaceful. We saw the South Boulder Mountain and a couple others which were all so beautiful and photos just cant do it justice. Next time I will be more prepared so I can try to make the hike to the main waterfall. All in all, I had an amazing time! I feel really silly that I have lived in Boulder for 2 years and not come here until now.
Alexandra Sloan
We almost didn't go because we thought it might be raining. I'm sure glad we made the drive up to make this sunset hike. It was quiet, calm and a great work out. There are quite a few trails to go on that are good for beginners and there are some that are great for all levels and they keep you active. I saw that rock climbing was welcome and there's plenty of great rock face for it. Good views, courteous Park guests.
Katt Bernu
Very snowy after the storm but it made it beautiful! I definitely want to come back once the snow has melted and explore a little more! Parking could get tricky in peak season, spots seemed pretty limited but it's definitely worth the adventure!
JustBrihere
This place is absolutely beautiful. Visited from Wisconsin, so close to denver you need to at least as drive though it. It was 10$ per vehicle which was a pretty good price! Definitely will be returning!
Malachi Goodman
This park is beautiful! I'm not a rock climber, but this park is definitely one of the places-to-be for rock climbers. There are random trails and paths for those of us who are not rock-climbing enthusiasts. Maps of the various trails are posted in strategic areas. (My wife and I went on the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail. Beautiful views along the trail.)
The parking here is very limited; so, it's best to come in the morning than in the afternoon. There is a narrow dirt road through Eldorado Springs before you reach the booth to pay your way into the park. It's $3 to walk in, $8 to drive in, and $70 for an annual pass. This park is dog-friendly, and the person in the booth will give a treat if they find out you have a dog in your car.
John Wilson
Definitely a cool location to hike. The Rattlesnake Gulch train was pretty nice, not too busy and not crazy hard. Good for the view.
Will be try the other hikes here soon.
Natalya Kosyanenko
We went up to Continental Divide Outlook - great beautiful trail and stunning views from the top. You can choose to do the entire loop at the top or gust enjoy the views and go back
Candee Zarah
Wonderful wonderful place! Get there early because they do close once they reach capacity. We were just there to take our first family hike in CO! Great paths for children. Wheelchair accessible trail is available. So much beauty all around and great views. Also we saw a ton of rock climbers so I'm assuming that means it's a great place for super experienced brick climbers. Beginners, I don't think this is for you lol but I don't rock climb so maybe I'm off. All in all wonderful park we hope to visit often!
cindy c.
This place is absolutely beautiful. It offers nice hiking trails and amazing scenic views. We hiked up one of the trail that was nicely manicured and I managed to hiked at least half way through it with my flip flops (not recommended) on until we ran in to a rattlesnake. Please do watch out for snakes and bears.
We also hiked along the stream. It was very beautiful and relaxing. And the water was freezing cold! But it was worth spending a day there.
Sara Swinehart
Such an amazing park! Parking was tricky on a Saturday afternoon- get there early if you want a spot close to the park to leave your car. Highly recommend visiting, the trails are awesome and kid friendly!
Alli Keeley
My husband and I went here because we couldn’t get passes to Rocky Mountain NP, and we weren’t disappointed! We hiked Snake Gulch Trail and the views were excellent. It was a moderate hike - we just had to stop a bit to let us adjust to the elevation a little. In September, it was not too hot for a long hike. The most challenging part was navigating the parking situation. It took some time to get in because the park was at capacity and then the ranger told us to take the first spot we saw.
Taylor Manning
This place was absolutely gorgeous! We took the dogs on a 4mile hike here along the dirt road and then up into the rattlesnake gulch trail. It was absolutely breathtaking.
We were able to walk by the river for a little, but it was running very quickly and we didn’t want to let the dogs jump in. On our way up the dirt road we saw so many climbers / boulderers and were able to watch them scale there gargantuan cliffs for a little while which was really cool.
We went around 6pm so it was nice and shays yet still got a lot of sun. I’d imagine in the mornings it would also get a lot of shade as there are so many trees! Great views of rock formations, birds, and just an all around peaceful place to be.
Matthew Romanelli
This is an incredibly beautiful park! I can definitely see why this is considered one of the best state parks in the country. Just take some to time to enjoy the canyon views; the color of the rocks and mountains contrast beautifully with the pine trees. Take in the views along with the sound of the river.
jamie b
Amazing views, lots of trails and rock climbing. Came here to kick off the weekend and get out of the city for a bit. We loved every moment of it. Place was well kept and no trash! Always pick up after yourself. A definite must go. The shuttle service is Eldo Shuttle and picks up in a number of locations. Look for the little white signs on the side of the road. We parked off Hwy 170 and S. Foothills hwy. Cross the street to out front of the gas station and theres a pickup spot. Shuttles are not labled, they should be, but they arent. Hope this helps.
Rebecca
The views at this park are stunning and the trails are well maintained. Parking is definitely limited, but this wasn't a problem when I went
M
It's a wonderful, expansive area with seriously impressive views, accessible by a fine gravel/sand road to smaller separate parking areas leading into the gorge. The trails are of moderate difficulty, so be prepared to encounter a lot of stairs. If you choose to remain by the picnic area by the river near the main entrance, the ground is mostly flat. Take plenty of water and snacks for the day!
Kou Vang
Great place for rock climbers! Lots of cool things to see and many trail in the canyon. Definitely will be coming back for exploring the area more.
Corinne DePersis
Hikes appropriately sized for very young kids! You could even take a stroller if you didn't want to put the kid in a pack. The only downside is the kid-friendly hikes are very short. Lots of picnic sites along the creek available. Beautiful views even without having to scale the canyon walls.

One of my favorite Colorado parks, but parking is a premium. And the campsites get loud on the weekends as people like to have the family gatherings. But there’s some great hiking and beautiful views. Go early to find a place and get up to the train tracks.
Jacob Dong
Classic historic rock climbing spot!
Josh
We visited in the middle of December and we were blessed with a magical snowstorm. The place was still open until 5pm, you just need a vehicle with 4-wheel or all-wheel drive.
It's absolutely beautiful, you just need to be careful if there's any snow or ice on the hiking paths
Clint W
Visited on 6/11/19. Hiked the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail. Great park to visit. Popular with rock climbers. Definitely get there early in the summer as parking can fill quickly. There are multiple parking locations between the entrance and visitor center which will make your walk to trailheads shorter if you're purpose is hiking. Pet friendly (must be leashed).
Jason Curtis
How anyone can give this place less then a 5 star rating is beyond me. This place is truly magical and was by far the highlight of our Colorado trip (minus Red Rocks). Stumbled upon it while my daughter was in a visit to CU and was looking for a place my son and could get away for a few hours, and boy did we find the perfect place. My son enjoyed all the bouldering and the views and trails were absolutely amazing. Cannot wait to come back.
SuryaKanti Dutta
It is a nice place for a day out. People who likes to hike and mountaineering will love this place. Hiking trails are steep and not very easy to walk with small kids.
Christine Melicia
Breathtakingly beautiful !!! I was so excited because of the beauty that I felt like a little kid on the playground. If you zoom in on the rocks you will see rock climbers.
Lindsey Camacho
We love this state Park it's so close to home and great for a hike. Our 4 yr old is able to hike the rattlesnake gulch trail (about 3 miles) this park is also home to several rock climbing routes and bouldering spots.
Michael Paisis (PofC)
Great walking trails and beautiful river rushing down we pick up our own El Dorado Spring water what's not to like!
Of course picnic is limited. And if you like climbing is one of the best places to do it.
Vanessa Culver
Eldorado canyon trail is awesome and a good challenge for beginners. The beginning and end of the trail has very steep inclines, so can take longer than usual if just starting out. Views are rewarding, and it’s kept in really good shape.

Eldorado Canyon State Park is part of the Colorado State Park system. It is located in Boulder County near the city of Boulder. The park consists of two areas, the Inner Canyon (developed area) and Crescent Meadows (undeveloped area). The park encompasses 885 acres (3.6 km2) with a variety of recreation opportunities available. Eldorado Canyon is home to one of the world's most accessible and comprehensive rock climbing areas. This state park is open during daylight hours only, visitors are expected to leave before dusk. The biggest draw to Eldorado Canyon State Park is rock climbing. Eldorado Canyon offers over 1000 technical rock climbing routes. The beauty of this canyon also engages the non-climber. Park visitors may hike or mountain bike over some of 11 miles (18 km) of picturesque trails that vary from easy to difficult and reach out to adjoining public lands outside the park. Rattlesnake Gulch Trail leads to the Crags Hotel Site and Continental Divide Overlook. Visitors may also picnic by or fish in scenic South Boulder Creek. In the winter, Eldorado offers hiking and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Snow and ice are common on roads and trails from mid-October through late April. In the summer months, snow is still possible but less common. Varying conditions throughout a given day can be expected throughout the year. Summer days can typically have beautiful sunny mornings and short sudden thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Caleb Jennings
It's beautiful with excellent views of Denver towards mid afternoon. There are more than a few different trails to check out inside the park. The canyon views made the drive from Denver worth it.
David Stratman
I used to come here in my teens (over 20 yrs ago). The updates and continued, thoughtful improvements made this visit a fun trip down memory lane as well as an enjoyable adventure into new territory. Clean, well kept, excellent place to visit!
Abigail Scotese
Such an amazing location. The canyon walls are beautiful! The creek is cold but great to put your feet in to cool off after a hike. Lots of options for the whole family.
Z Wil
Beautiful park with lots to do! Dog friendly and Fowler trail was the perfect scenic hike/walk for the dogs, girlfriend, and I. We plan to come back without the dogs next time to tackle one of the more challenging climbs up the canyon, but there was no shortage of walking and fun to be had regardless.
SaraMarie Bottaro
Stunning rock faces and lots of hiking trails at various levels make this a great outing. If you're a climber it's reportedly amazing, we just did a bit of hiking. Elevation is significantly higher than Denver, one of my friends had trouble with the increased altitude so be aware of that. Bring lots of water!
Matthew Gall
We loved this place. It is so beautiful and it was fun to hike the trails and see all the Rock climbers on the cliffs. We did the river trail which is a pretty short out and back trail but it was perfect for our family. We're in our mind thirties with kids that are 14, 12, 10, & 1. The river trail had so much to get distracted by that it took us a while. We climbed rocks and boulders, went into caves and climbed down to the river in several places.
Tilm Alowishes
Oh yeah. Knock this hike off your list for sure. There was a lodge on the side of this mountain once before there was even any real cars or roads. You can watch a train scale the side of a mountain on this trail. It's an awesome experience. I'd say it's not too technical but a little bit of a time commitment. Definitely a nice day hike.
Elizabeth Luna
the views awesome. there's a cave n there trails so cool.... the cost $9.00 but is worth it....y'all see ppl climbing way up on the mountain... this pic are just at the tip of the trail
Yolanda Flores
Hiking in the area was great! Make sure you bring spikes for your shoes to avoid slipping on the ice. Scenery is beautiful.
Joe M.
Great state park for a picnic and hiking. They have a couple of trails that are very easy and nicely setup. There are a couple of outhouses and many picnic tables near the creek. We went on a weekday to avoid the crowds as the small parking lots will fill up by lunch on the weekends.
Faythe Zuver
Love the trails! So many beautiful views to see! Lots of people rock climb here too! The natural spring creek running off the mountain is a sight to be seen
Tyler Tjaden
Eldorado Canyon State Park is one of the most beautiful places in Boulder County you could ever visit if you like rock climbing, scrambling, hiking, so on and so forth this beautiful Canyon has it all as a native to Colorado this is one of my favorite places to go and pretty much do everything!!!!! #Colorado #hikingadventures #hiking #coloradohiking #colorfulcolorado #nature #naturephotography #eldoradocanyon
Blake Jeffress
Amazing spot to hike, climb and picnic! You can literally see people rock climbing all around the canyon. No camping and there is a small entrance fee, but believe me, WELL worth it! Amazing views and trails! Bike, pet, and adventure friendly!
Esther Nohz
This is the perfect place if you want to have a picnic in one their tables next to the river . I did the small hike but wished I could have done the other two . Breathtaking views btw .
Matthew Blystone
I only got to spend about 4 hours on 1 trail, but it was gorgeous and there are many more trails to take a look at. It's also super close to the city so very accessible.
Joanna
Beautiful place for walking, hiking, and climbing! Amazing views.
I recommend leaving the car right behind the main entrance to the park and continue walking ahead :)
Ravi Gandh
This is a beautiful state park, with access to picnic areas, river, many many trailheads and rock climbing. An amazing place for adventure and very close to Boulder.
Brad Wilson
Beautiful spot with tons of trails. Even just the access road has some amazing things to see. Great spot to have a picnic at the visitors center. Plenty of great spots to hang a hammock.
Lisa Chien
This is my first visit in Eldorado Canyon State Park. When I first arrived in village, I was disappointed with the State Park; however, I explore more and I love more. I’ve been surprised by their many of rock claimer. Beautiful creek!
Shay Diestel
Beautiful! Fairly easy hike, especially for those who aren’t used to the elevation! It can be a little crowded so get there early!
T. Cramer
Trails were a little slushy in some areas and we went late in the afternoon but it was fantastic. Took the fowler and rattlesnake gulch trails. The loop looked closed due to eagle habitats but still able to take in the view of the continental divide. Will have to go back to try the climbing!
Cody Bock
Rattlesnake Gulch Trail: Great hike, around 900 feet of elevation gain over 1.58 miles up. Parts of the trail were icy but not unbearable. My wife and I took our time and It took us about 2 hours start to finish the 3.16miles with stopping to eat sandwiches, relax and enjoy the great view. Completed hike on 11/14
Edit: Unsure why photo is blurry on upload, either way it's a beautiful view!
VRON G.
Love the views! Nice and plenty trails. Couldn't go up the park via sedan car because roads were too slippery in January. Definitely will revisit again for hiking.
Brittany Stasio
What a great place! There are so many trails to hike, everything is well maintained, and there's a decent amount of parking! Its right along a river, it's beautiful to watch the waters rushing down.
J-M F
Rattlesnake Gulch Trail to the Intercontinental Overlook - Great +3 mile hike and not too difficult. It is a 3 hour round trip and a must if in the Boulder area. Take a dip after in the Eldorado Artesian Springs after, $12 is a little steep. Otherwise drive to the top part of the part of get into the stream. It was really cool to see a train coasting by above us loading with two locomotives engines in the front and two in the back.
oh Foou
Went on a hike to the Continental Divide Overlook. On the way stopped and took hundreds of pictures and a few videos. If you go to my YouTube @ohfoou you will find a video of our adventures
Matt Pitlik
Awesome trails, with a great picnic area along the creek near the trailhead. A cold beverage with your toes in the water is a perfect way to cap off a good hike.
JW Work
It's like being on a Lord of the Rings movie set. Great for all types of of climbing, walking, & hiking. Good for families with kids, and folks who just want to see some of the best of Colorado. Avoid peak hours if you want to find a parking spot and avoid crowds.
Peter Carlesimo
ECSP has great trails to hike and it’s a great place to bring dogs (must be on leash) and to let the kids explore some caves.
No doubt our favorite time of year to visit is in the Fall when you can catch the Autumn colors starting to shine.
And it’s not too far to get to the Peak-to-Peak Highway from here.
You can even see some reds dapped in with the standard Aspen gold/yellow.
This is a fantastic place for the whole family plus it’s close to Boulder which is always a fun city to visit.
Ericka DeFord
This park is so fun! The trails are not too hard and the sights are breathetaking!!!! Easy to navigate trails and loved watching the rock climbers! Must go if in Boulder.
Yah Moht
Fabulous! Such a gorgeous place! The sceneries are awesome while hiking on the trails! If you love hiking and are in a good shape, try to arrive early to hike all the trails. Each trail takes about 3 hours round trip (assuming you have quite a bit of hiking experience)!
Craig Nance
I don't climb but this place makes me want to. If you like parks and haven't been here, put it on your to-do list. Its one of the area's hidden gems. I especially like visiting when its snowy.
Michaela J
This place is beautiful. We saw it in the winter, and it was amazing. I would love to return in the summer and go for a hike there. Go visit!
Kaitlin Nebeker
The hiking trails near the river are a little advanced if you have kids with you, but we still managed to do the whole Rattlesnake Trailhead with a 4 year old and an older dog.
The views are breathtaking.
Arthur Redgate
Beautiful location with an amazing trail. We took the Eldorado trail and it does have a fair amount of stairs(more like stair like facets that need to be climbed) but the payoff was worth the physical effort. The view was unbelievable! Even the gift shop was reasonably priced and the staff was extremely friendly. If you're in the area it is a must see, the immensity really helps place perspective on life which is something we all need to do now and again.
April Damon
Beautiful up here! Took the family which includes younger children and it was a great time. Lots of different hiking trails !
Tyler Branagan
A really amazing slice of natural history and beauty. There are great trails for hiking or running also this is an excellent place for climbing. It can get busy in the weekend so arive early to get a parking spot. once you are out of the canyon and on the trails there are fewer people.
Michael Renkosiak
My go to place to hike and get into the outdoors. Always a well maintained park, friendly staff, and lots of options for the family.
From Kings Studio
One of my favorite spots for climbing and photography! Absolutely beautiful! It can get really packed on the weekends Sundays really bad! But still an amazing place!
backy “Backy” r
Beautiful. Pictures cannot do it justice. Great for a moderate to difficult hike. Lots of people rock climbing. Brought our dog and he kept up for mostly the whole way!
Mitch Miller
Excellent scenery and lots of hiking and climbing potential. I can see where crowds might be an issue so o would recommend a weekday.
Jess
One of the best hiking experiences my husband and I had on our Colorado trip! The hike isn't too challenging, and the view at the top of the Continental Divide Overlook was absolutely breathtaking. One of the most beautiful places we have seen. A must-see spot for all visitors!
Tyler
Great hike. Steep at some spots but great views.
A “BovBrew”
Great hiking for the whole family. We are a family of 4 with an 8 year old daughter and 10 month old son an had fun hiking the Fowler Trail.
Liz Skinner
I loved that there was a wheelchair accessible trail! Because it was winter and snowy, the trail we wanted to do was closed off, but the others were beautiful too!
Joe M
Great place to hike and enjoy the outdoors. If given the chance hike the Eldorado Canyon 7m trail to the small water fall. It is worth it. Great bench just past the bridge to set back and listen to the water rush by.
roger holdeman
Nice Colorado state park. Would love to come back in the summer and hike the trails. We were there after Christmas and the ice on the trails made hiking a bit treacherous but that was to be expected.
Cyrus Khan
A lovely natural alcove with a wide variety of well protected and scenic classic multi pitch trad climbs that range in difficulty to suit your taste of adventure.
Comfortable ranger station and lovely Eldorado spring water also available.
David Blaine
Great hiking (mostly shaded), picnicing, stream wadding, rock climbing place not far from Denver. Rattlesnake loop takes you to an old hotel site, continental divide views, and close to an amazing working railroad line in a place you'd never guess it would be. If you're lucky you'll see and hear a train slowly making its way. What a sight!
Brandy Moore
Excellent mountain top view reward for being a pretty short hike. Great for visitors and family (with kids) with limited time.
E T
A great place to climb, hike, and fly fish. Hard to encapsulate everything available to do at the park other than saying, “if you live the Colorado lifestyle, it has it all.”
Classic features, like the Bastille, offer classic bucket list trad climbing. Classic boulder problems, like Germ Free Adolescence and Resonated, are tucked away for the adventurous. Hiking is everywhere. Fishing is a rarely utilized gem in the park (and for my sake I hope it stays that way), but larger browns around 16” can be found in all the secret pockets and troughs around S. Boulder creek.
Joseph B
Place is nice. Going into the park was a bit weird because of the houses around the area but once your inside…it’s like being in a different place. Great place to hike or just be near the lake spend time in the water and watch a huge big screen of live water streaming with an awesome surround sound can even feel it. It’s cold water!!! Hummingbirds are all over so nice to see them. Check it out, good experience to see and be at. Mesmerizing to watch people climb on the rocks.
Note: When it rains more water.
Gideon
Beautiful state park loved it. Great part of my trip to Colorado. Would definitely visit again!
Savannah Williams
Surreal scenery, it was awesome to be able to see people climbing the giant rock formations. We even saw someone make it all the way to the top of one! A beautiful and relaxing day trip.
Allyson Jenkins
Love the views from the trails! Trails are pretty easy for out of towners and so close to Denver/Boulder. Also dog friendly area, yay!!!
luna1732
Amazing Park for us nature lovers breathtaking views of the Canyons👍 …
Nadina Harris
Great place to visit. There are hiking trails for all levels
.
Maggie Kelly
We went on a great little hike on Rattlesnake Gulch Trail. This takes you to the historic ruins of the Crag Hotel. The trail isn't very hard and not too long. You can go longer and see the further into the mountains. It's not a loop. It could take you half a day driving and hiking or bring lunch and go further and could take a longer part of the day. Great views. There's an $8 park fee at the entrance, just past the little town of Eldorado Springs.
Adam Isaacs
My favorite place to climb in Colorado... also has some great hiking. Beautiful river, walls and views. Worth the visit even if you don't climb.
Amy Gallagher
Beautiful state park with multiple trails for beginner, intermediate and expert trailblazers. Highly recommend for a quick day trip outside of Denver.
Milton Audas
A great park. Get there early to grab a parking spot. The initial mile of the Canyon trail is very steep, climbing 800ft in that distance but then it tapers off. Several areas of rock scrambling on occasion but otherwise the trail is well marked and maintained.
Roy Anderson
A very beautiful pace for climbers and hikers. Very under developeed and that's just fine.
James Berreth
This is a great hidden jem for anyone looking to hike, sightsee or just spend a few minutes taking in God’s glorious creation. The water is around 35 degrees and the air temperature was in the 100’s which made for a stark contrast.
Beatrice Jara
Great park even though it was so cold still managed to do some walking with my kids and sightseeing. Will go back to visit.
Cyanide_Leak
This place is very clean and well preserved! Make sure you come early on weekends or holidays. Parking is usually full on those days. It is also very cheap! Good luck and have fun!
Jordan Quinn
I did the rattlesnake gulch trail. 3.9 miles some what easy hike.
Linda Delegans
Winter is the best time! Ample parking and snow was just beautiful! The trails were just perfect for our Husky boys! Wind and cold lovers here is your chance to enjoy a Colorado must see destination. Park rangers so hospitable and informative! Our Huskies loved the week day afternoon here!
M Chu
Put away the technology. Get lost in Mother Nature. What a great way to recharge the soul. Family hike through the various trails. The view atop of the Continental Divide makes it even better.
The One True Maldor
Probably my favorite hiking trail I've gone on since moving to Colorado a year ago. Well maintained, fun to go on, amazing sites, and once you get up the intial space, it's pretty easy from there on. Can't wait to go back!
Daniel Dilallo
Beautiful place, great hiking trails and waterfalls. You will love the scenery and the views.
Erin Patricia
Did the short Fowler’s trail. It was a gray day but the views were still great, especially in the snow.
Kentucky Jenn
Although I didn't intend on going to this exact park, it was very nice and the park employees were great.
I was trying to find another trail head in a other location but I did not mind paying the fee to go ahead and park and check it out.
Gabriel Fairchild
First experience with falling rock today. If weather kicks up be on the look out.
So beautiful it had me looking left and kaboom from right.
Marissa Konczal
Beautiful views and a pretty easy trail to bring kids on!
Sarah Williams
Very beautiful place. Canyon hike is challenging!
Josh Rosema
We love this state park! It’s beautiful, fun, challenging, and close by.
Dan Otten
Hiked to Crag's hotel in a light rain and really enjoyed it. The path switches back so you walk up, there was no "climbing" at all. Views were excellent.
Karl Olsen
The Fowler Trail was a great hike for my wife, 2 young kids (in carriers), and me. Not strenuous, but really great views. Parking is a pain, so either plan to arrive very early, walk (or take the shuttle from the Eldorado Corner Market gas station if you're going on a weekend), or wait for people to trickle out of the park.
Seems to be plenty of climbing for advanced level climbers, and even more strenuous hiking routes. I'd recommend this place for anyone looking for a good hike.
Maria Hottovy
The hike was pretty easy, but if you like mountain climbing its the ideal place. Lots of climbers. Fun to watch them. The rest of the scenery is breath taken.
markus k
Park with beautiful hikes, need to be there early to get parking, otherwise you have to take the shuttle as it gets very busy.
Albert Betancourt
Wish I could have explored more but wasn't fully prepared. But I just came so I could escape the city temporarily. I just sat and looked out at the surrounding landscape. It was relaxing and was one of the only people there. Didn't see anyone. I was surprised at the "traffic" passing through the area though.
Philipp Fassbender
Excellent for a quick visit from Boulder, like we did in the afternoon. There are plenty of nice and sometimes hidden secrets or you can just cool down by the creek. Restroom quality so so.
maiten benavidez
Magnificent place to do hiking, trekking and be in a pace environment.
Nick Goedecke
Some of the best views and trad climbing available in Colorado. The hikes are easy and enjoyable as well. Best to go during the week to avoid crowds & ques (for climbing).
Dawn Robinson
beautiful area and great trails and awesome place to rock climb.
M O
This is one of the best places for scenic hikes in the Boulder area in my opinion.
I see a lot of people mountain climbing here as well.
I don't climb so I don't really know, but it looks like it must be a good place for that because there's always a bunch of people climbing.
Also: I wanna live in the little town you have to drive through to get to the park (Eldorado Springs).
Deborah Walker
Beautiful place. We've only done Fowler Trail so far but definitely plan on coming back to do the others. Fowler allows dogs on leash, just keep an eye on them because there are rattlers in the area. The one this morning did give us sufficient warning but it was on the edge of the trail. There are a ton of rock climbers too. Most of Fowler Trail is flat and easy but there is a rocky section.
Lagarto Byrne
Eldorado Springs has a dirty dirt road leading up to the top. I bicycled in from a different track then cars use and enjoyed that far more than if I had driven up the road. The scenery is epic but the parking is not free and there's a lot of mud around. Make sure your Footwear can handle it and same with your floor mats in your car.
Peter B
Great place to visit with good hiking and picnic tables by a stream. Nice views through. A bit busy even on a weekday.
Glenn McKnight
Gorgeous scenery surrounding the hiking trails. Several people were rock climbing the cliffs, others were bouldering. The trails were extensive.
Hamid Chefchaouni
Picture perfect scenic park. It is an easy 15 minutes drive to get there from Boulder.
The mountains are colorful and pretty. It is a huge asset to the neighborhood.
The self-payment price is only $8 per car per day.
Michael Augustin
Gorgeous park! Pretty busy and driving thru town before getting to the park has you questioning your decision but very much worth the visit!
Heather Paschall
Love this place! Tons of trails, picnic areas, climbing spots, greenery, animals, and scenery. It can sometimes fill up on the weekends, but there are two other hiking lots on the road in that are usually open if the park is full.
carri crank
Beautiful park. Go early so you get a parking space. $9 for a vehicle. Just an absolutely gorgeous state park with hiking trails for any level.
Sarah Hildebrand
This park is lovely! The hike to the river is nice and shaded. The trails were in great condition, good trail markers too!
Cara Stotler
The most gorgeous hiking trails I've been to in a long time. Varied difficulty with breathtaking views! Well worth the price of admission. $10/car with discounted walk-in prices.
Noah Woods
From Kansas and have done lots of hiking around this region and this is BY FAR my favorite state park I've been to. Very easy access to the park and plenty of parking. You drive on a dirt road for a little bit but it's quite smooth and easy to navigate. Both Rattlesnake Gulch and Canyon trails were absolutely stunning. Trails are a little long so bring plenty of supplies with you but DEFINITELY worth it.
Charles Landis
Awesome place, great climbing, great hiking, a beautiful little creek and so easy to get to. I love this place.
Sarah Pfister
It's gorgeous here and easy to access from the city
A nt
Awesome, great trails and rock climbers.
Fernando Campofreda
Amazing , this park offer a beautiful hike that you will remember , colorado offer a wide recreational park options that you will love .
Jim Van Dyke
Great hiking trails, mountain climbing and fishing. Very unique road to get to the entrance of the park.
Robert Powell
The climbing history here goes way back. It's truly an inspiration. The hiking is also good although there are only a handful of established trails. The staff is always very nice and helpful. Most crags have wag bags available if you forget to use the toilet before your adventure begins.
Katie Coleman
Absolutely beautiful area! Large potholes in the road on the way in so drive slow but should anyway as there are many private homes on the way in.
sarah m
Great place for hiking and climbing! Rattlesnake gulch trail was beautiful and very mellow. Wasn't too busy for a nice Saturday either. Make sure you have some cash for the $8 entrance fee
Sara Prevost
One of our favorite places for family hikes. State park admission is $8 per car. We like the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail up to the old Crags hotel. Our kids (7 and 11) and our dog (must be on leash) can do this trail. It’s about 4.5 miles round trip. There are also other shorter trails and it’s got some epic views of the flatirons.
Shubham Jain
Amazing Mountain Views with a river flowing as well. Some good hiking places too
galebanbollow
Such a fantastic hike lots of places to explore and so much pretty stuff to see.
Kelly Fomenko
Great place for rock climbing, hiking, and waterfall viewing. Be careful on the drive in because it can be bumpy and is not paved.
Kristine Minteer
Beautiful hikes, cheap entry, parking fills up fast--get there early!
Blair Bethwaite
Striking views within a rocky canyon, made more impressive by the free climbing happening all around. Lots of trails to walk too, Rattlesnake Gulch is a must do on a clear day for excellent views of the Canyon and then beyond to the continental divide.
Melissa Wright
This is a hidden gem!! What a beautiful area. Hiking for every level, from gentle stroll to rock climbing. Beautiful picnic spots along the river. Live this area!
Zach Marino
My wife and I met up with her sister and brothers and we had 5 kids under four and did the rattlesnake trail..it was awesome! It's definitely challenging and not for the faint of heart but totally doable! The views are breathtaking, the trails were well groomed and there were a few flat areas to rest along the way. I would definitely recommend this park and if you have younger kids, being nice hiking packs to haul them..that makes all the difference! Only $8/vehicle entrance fee, definitely worth it!
Austin Stewart
Absolutely stunning views. Great place for a day trip to enjoy the beauty Colorado has to offer without having to go too far.
Jessica Asam
Best hike we've done here. Super easy to get to and the views are spectacular!!
Katie Steckly
Very rocky trail with steep elevation gain. Enjoyed it once...would not go back.
jonathan rader
Beautiful scenery, well kept trails, has a few trails for different levels and several picnic areas by the visitor center
Tiffany B
This is one of our favorite hiking spots. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely, scenic stroll or more adventurous hike, they have many trails to choose from. There are many picnic spots to choose from as well!
Victoria Arnold
Awesome views. Took 2 kids. Able to push a stroller in the Fowler trail and still had awesome views. 9 bucks but worth it. Watched rock climbers. Harder hikes available as well
Liesl aka Li Johansen
Absolutely gorgeous canyon with great hiking trails and lots of climbers!!
Quinn Sena
Really beautiful 😍 park has lots of beautiful vistas it looks sorta looks like the lord of the rings mountains. Also seems there has been a lot of work going on even in Eldorado springs pool which is underconstruction. The park is open though which shows off nearly painted mountains. …
Chris Randall
Gorgeous, go and get a lungful of clean clean air!
Yogesh Rajkotia
Wind tower is a fantastic to introduce little kids to multipitch climbing. Awesome experience.
Broncoboy2020
Such a wonderful place for a good hike. Amazing views.
Pb H
Great views, trails have different difficulties. Rock climbing as well as bbq and picnic areas available! Parking available. Awesome place to come visit!
Wanda Bates
This was not originally on our itinerary, found this while passing time for a scheduled event. Glad that we did, this park is beautiful and the hike we did was amazing!!! Many great memories and pictures to boot! Would definitely return if ever in the area again!
Daniel Carlisle Brown, DPT, COMT, OCS
The rock climbing 🧗🏾♂️ here is terrible. Please don’t climb here, it is never fun... and the views are awful. The rock is covered in this extremely ugly green lichen, and when the sun hits it just right... it glows like something extraterrestrial 👽. …
ghost kitty
It does cost 10$ to park, but I did the el Dorado trail, the hardest one and their was so many beautiful wildflowers there. I got good elevation training and incline training. So many beautiful birds singing and crickets chirping at the time. Definitely coming back. Truly magical here and great hiking training!
Jared Hendrickson
Great hike beautiful sites. 9$ for day entry with annual pass options.
Tony Hayes
One of the better state parks in Colorado.
Great for hiking, and climbing
Karl Franklin
so much fun went with my gf did a bit of climbing and walking on the trails
Larry Ives
Beautiful park. Hiked the rattlesnake gulch trail in mid October. Bring a windbreaker for the first portion of the trail if the weather is cool, it's extremely windy and cold in the shaded canyon portion before you climb up the mountainside. Once you climb into the sun it warms considerably. There are a few places to get some great views, one in particular is not a part of the mapped trail, rather a short offshoot. Definitely worth it to walk up to the rocky peak for a view.
Jennifer Wolfe
What a beautiful place! We hiked the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail. Short, but steep. Take breaks to help adjust to the altitude if you're from a lower elevation. Beautiful views at the top!
Bryan Lawlor
Nice place to hike. Just very crowded, great for pictures
Kim Woodrum
Great place to be. Great for wheelchairs, bikeriding and dog walking. The lady at the gate is awsome😇 …
a. mils
Beautiful beautiful park!! Loved every minute of it and a wind storm was even brewing while I was there!
Kyle London
Great place to hike. Clean trails that provide some difficulty. Beautiful place to explore and get away from it all.
Delmar Medley
Awesome place to go. There are paths for all. Even a wheelchair or stroller path, which we had a stroller and the path still had very nice views which is rare.
Linda Langbroek
Did a short trail. It was amazing. Beautiful colors . Can’t wait to explore more this place
Molly Pudwell
Beautiful. Hikes for every ability.
Paul Toner
Beautiful hiking. Crazy climbing (literally as technical as you want to get). A nice river running through it. Areas to setup BBQ's or picnics with your friends or family... if the place is full, don't listen to the attendants and do a full loop through the area before El Dorado
.. just flip a U and park along the shoulder, and reapproach once a car leaves.
Wendy Young
Beautiful winter hike
Jennifer Lonnes
Great place to hike and not get too winded bc elevation isn't so high. Not a good place to see wildlife as there are more humans and dogs than anything else. $8 to get a vehicle in.
Giana Jinx
This is the kind of place that you have to see if you're in the area. Rattlesnake Gulch was an awesome hike, and the view of the Continental Divide was unreal. You cannot miss this opportunity. Make sure to bring cash for admission! The picture I added is from outside the park; it's what you see as you drive down the road, approaching it. Once you get in though, it's a completely different world. The beauty is overwhelming.
Chris Bodine
Great hike to get into the park for free. Takes about 30 minutes
Adrienne Gaspard
Parking can be tricky, but there's plenty of trails for you to cruise around and find one with parking. Great views and plenty of easy trails for kids.

What a beautiful and relaxing place to explore. Plenty of people were rock climbing. But you can relax by the creek or hike. Whatever level you are at.
Doug Sellers
Amazing scenery. 90 degree rock walls. And then to witness all the brave people(nuts) who were climbing them was mind-blowing to an old sea level guy.
Jason Choi
Beautiful park with gorgeous Sawtooth views and some far views of the higher 10k+ ft peaks at the distance. Not giving 5 stars because can definitely get more spectacular views in America (ie CA coast), but so accessible!
Mike Caudill
Beautiful scenery, absolutely a great place to see
Rebecca Fogel

Gorgeous park with amazing views and a lively river. It's relatively small, but if parking is full in the park there is a shuttle. Cost is $4/person.

Beautiful state park. It's really cool to drive through and or trail through on bike or foot. The parking is cheap and the spots available can be hard to come by. The scenery is absolutely amazing.

Amy Stoehr
Beautiful hike, needed spikes in the parking lot but the trail itself was clear.
Amanda Keller
8 dollar vehicle entrance fee with lots of trails to choose from and a cold creek to dip your tired feet in after. Beautiful giant rock walls for a day or climbing and makes for a majestic picture.

Beautiful! It was closed when we got there but we went to this different trail and I'll say it was a bit tiring in the snow because there was so much snow, but the views were worth it! Follow me @hola.es.paola for more photos!
Ben Bannister
It's multiple trails and countless rock formations present the opportunity for endless fun!

Josh Steichen
Gorgeous park with great trails, picnic areas and hiking.
Noah James
Beautiful trails and amazing views. Well worth the short drive to get there. The river is really nice too.
Samantha Carlson
Don't let the drive in fool you. Its a well established and maintained state park. Drive all the way back to check out the visitors center!
Matthew Clarke
One of the best climbing areas in the front range. Always worth the drive...
Tom Dutkiewicz
Beautiful scenery and hiking. One of my favorite
Patty Evans
Wonderful park. Mountain climbers paradise. Fun to watch
Kelly G
Parking is a nightmare due to tourists who can't drive on mountain roads. Great park, easy to hard trails.
Alexander Sage
Way too crowded when it's warm. The short 3 mile loop gets crazy icy in the winter. Eldorado trail to walker is a great jog
Guillaume Stordeur
Great views, some nice hikes, and world class climbing!
Eric Foster
Awesome trails, great park and beautiful views.
Malena Marilin Martinez
I love it! Beautiful place for hiking and spend the day there.

It was a lot of fun hiking up and down the mountains and the views were extraordinary from what I was expecting. The picnic grounds were alright and the creek was nice too.
Ryan Baker
Had a great time. Plenty of climbers to look up at of the beautiful rocks. The rattlesnake gulch trail had a steady incline the whole way up had beautiful views at the top. Very rewarding hike.

Among the best in the state. Trails, water, ruins, visitor center, world class climbing. Love Colorado.
Jan Kain
Beautiful place to hike, watch climbers, eat a picnic lunch along the creek and if you dare go in the frigid water!
Desiree Clayton
There's a variety of scenic views! We enjoyed the trails. The staff were friendly. The only downside is that there is hardly any parking for the busy park.
Daniel Walden
Great place for a hike or trail run. Beautiful scenery. Seems like a legit spot for climbers too.
Neil Solanki
Good times and beautiful views. Beware the road up and down is dirt and a bit narrow if you're skittish.

Nick 0liver (Nickyo)
They really have some fantastic hiking trails with great views! We did a moderate trail and we're very satisfied
Jake W
One of my favorite quick hikes around the Boulder area. Absolutely gorgeous scenery, and there are some uncommonly accessible trails leading to stunning views. Worth every penny of the $10 admission.
CLM Urray
That place is awesome..when we first got there ...a big old historic pool being redone. Then drive some more and you have great rock climbing..right after that you park ..trail head right there hiked to the top. On the top there was another trail to the river. Awesome time. Very hard if not in shape. Also need to bring water for the hike. My brother and I made hike there and back. 4 1/2 hour spectacular views
Manish Shambu
One of the best places that I have visited. Breathtaking views!
Edgardo Romero
nice place and if you are a rock climber you will love the place
Tim
Other than having to keep an eye on your belongings, it's a truly amazing and breathtaking place to experience. One of my favorite.
Some of the climbers here are thieves, had to confront a couple of guys in the parking area because they thought it would be funny to "keep my things safe". Denied having anything until I showed aggression. Ridiculous. But still, truly love this park.
dj bruner
Fair amount of shade, good trail. Busy
Gary
Great place to hike and Rock climb. Spectacular views!!
Alec Woodruff
One of a kind view and great trail! Entry fee is pretty cheap and they offer annual passes for anyone looking to achieve regular status. Just.. don't underestimate the elements. If it's raining, you'd better have the right gear or you're going to have a bad time. This tip is of course being relayed through me via a third party, I definitely didn't make the mistake myself...
Julianne Evans
Man, what a shocker! Saw this park on a postcard at a store in downtown Boulder and decided to go. Glad I did! Went about 3pm and it was the perfect time to go! Situated about 8 miles SW of Pearl Street in downtown Boulder, you have to drive through several older neighborhoods to get there - you think you're going the wrong way. $10 to get in. You drive up and down a winding road with pull-offs all along the way - do the stops! The raging river runs alongside the road and the mountains look like they're cut right out by glaciers (they go straight up). I thought this was the prettiest state park I've been to....there is a picnic area at the end of the road - then you have to turn around and go back to the entrance. Stunningly beautiful place!
David Summers
Hiked the gulch trail up to the continental divide overlook and back. Relatively mild hiking, but still lots of fun. Saw a grouse.
Eldorado probably fills up pretty quick because it's so convenient to Boulder. It's a good idea to arrive earlier. $10 per car to enter as of 9/25/21
TJ Burr
I had a great time hiking here on a Sunday, late afternoon in August. I hiked to the top of Centennial Cone Peak, which is off trail. There is a long loop trail with a variety of scenery. You can also access this park from the Mayhem Gulch Trail, which adds some extra vertical gain.
Heath Robinson
Not to be missed. This place is utterly amazing. Canyons, cliffs, and beautiful views.
Mary McCarthy

Sourav Gupta
This is an awesome park for hiking and rock climbing. It also has really beautiful views all around. They have a few really nice picnic areas for small to large families by the south boulder creek. The water in the stream is really nice and kids will have an awesome time playing here in the summer. The park has limited parking and usually gets full by 9am on weekends. They are open from sunrise till sunset. So being there early would really save time especially for large groups.
John Schiel
Great hiking trails. Some running too
Alon B
Always fun to come here, the cliffs view is breathtaking
Ruperto Alvarez

One of the best hiking trails in Colorado. Beautiful scenic views of the cascades and mountains
Denise Wagner
It was crowded, muddy, slushy and the roads were narrow and absolutely full of pot holes... totally worth it!! The canyon is spectacular, the continental divide overlook is gorgeous, the rattlesnake trail was well marked and the perfect amount of workout for my group. It was fun to see the rock climbers and the river is just fun. A must see place, winter, spring, summer or fall!
adam weber

Small park and well maintained. Great views and decent hikes that are not difficult
Charles Roper
Enjoyed our hike didn't stay super long but had a nice visit.
Nathan Barbeln
The natural beauty of this place is really quite amazing. The road in has steep canyon walls on either side and is quite a sight. There are plenty of picnic areas for families and spots to dip your feet in the water. The trails range in length and difficulty so anyone can have a good time here. Well worth the trip!
Brayan Edduar
an incredible place to climb and be with family
Pat Medina
Nice small little gem I hadn't seen. Great family picnic near the water but gets quite busy on weekend. We spent the first hour trying to find a picnic table as there are quit a bit of them but way more people. They turned away most folks that came up to the gate because they were to busy.
steven walter
Great place to watch climbers and hike. Really nice park in the Boulder area with quite a bit of parking
Logan Adden
First time there. Lots to explore and smaller rocks for the kiddos to climb. Lots of common sense danger for the kiddos but we all have to learn somehow. Cool frozen ice on the creek to get sweet pictures. Fun to watch the serious climbers do their thing. Not a lot of parking so if they are busy you will have quite a hike to park outside and walk in.
John Maki
beautiful place, way to busy now. but great memories of campfires and friends many years ago when there was no ever there
Mike B Petersen
How is any State park with bountiful nature, slew of trails and easy access not a 5?
Aly Murrell
Honestly this was one of the most beautiful state parks I have ever been too!
It was so incredible to drive, hike and climb through!! I was amazed by how many people there were rock climbing. I could have sat and watched the scenery for hours.
I had the opportunity to not only walk the trail all the way up so I could see the valley but I also made my way down to the waters edge.
I found this place by accident but it was the best experience.
Thomas Whelan
Rattlesnake gulch trail in August. Trail goes mostly uphill. Nothing spectacular.
The continental divide overlook at the top is really nice though.
Laying down in the cold creek after the hike... priceless.
Ian Siegrist
Beautiful place in any season. Get up early before the crowds arrive.
Shayna M
Good variety of trails, beautiful views, and great for rock climbers! Bring cash for parking
Brayden Farrar
Beautiful park. Close to the city amazing views.
Kara Ullum
Absolutely beautiful park! If you want to see the waterfall the hike is not easy at all but I am sure it was worth it. I hope to make it to the top next year!
Jason Andersen
Beautiful park with great views. If you visit please be considerate of the wildlife and leave the place better than you found it. Get early to get a good parking spot. The trails in the winter time can either be muddy or snowy so be prepared.
mustafa alfahad

Arwen W Fonzen
It was easy to find. I recommend going early to snag a parking spot, but there is also a shuttle. A few different trail heads with varying degrees of difficulty. Fun place to take our little baby in the pack.
Michael Taylor
Absolutely gorgeous and well kept park. I was blown away by the serenity and majesty of the canyon. The water sounds so peaceful and is lovely to hang out by. There is ample trails and areas for climbing as well as a picnic or bbq. I went on a week day and it wasn't busy at all. Was able to really take my time and explore. There is a toll to enter but well worth it. Definitely check this out.
Nick Howarth
Amazing place shared with an amazing person
Kenzo Tanaka
Great place, we are visiting every year
Anne Knight
Beautiful hike straight up the mountain. The scenery was breathtaking. The climb was a little more than we were comfortable with with so many rocks, but we made it and the views were worth it. Absolutely stunning! My dog seemed to have a lot of trouble with the constant rocks and appeared painful as we continued. Being an 83 lb. Coonhound, he is not exactly light on his feet. I would also recommend only very early hiking with dogs as it was very hot even by 9:30. It was great exercise and pushed us to do what we didn't think was possible. We went and got ice cream after we finished. It was amazing!
Cody McKinney
If you're looking for a set of easy hikes with incredible views - ding ding ding, winner winner chicken dinner. This site is absolutely incredible. Great for rock climbing, great for hikes, really cool history on the mountain... I'd highly recommend it for everyone of all ages, a lot of the trails are very doable for young children/small dogs.
Kevin Anderson
Really good social distancing. Such a satisfyingly challenging place. Thank you for a wonderful visit.
mysti lee
WOW! Beautiful park with a decent variety of trails from beginner to more intermediate. I saw a lot of rock climbers too! Beware they are often full in the summer and you have to walk in the main road to get to other trails. Overall though absolutely amazing.
Shani G
Beautiful view... Potholes will destroy your car lol
Marie Miller
Great place to sight-see, take pictures, bring the family. Very scenic, peaceful. A friend and I braved the winds the day we went and took some nice pictures, met lots of nice people and got our fill of nature's beauty. I loved the color variations on the stoney canyon walls. The trail also contained a pool and horseback riding although we didn't participate in either. Good place to picnic, sites are first come, first served. Parking was good on the day we went.
Dan Case
Beautiful Park. Gets busy fast on weekends.
Charlee Andree
Beautiful park with lots of awesome climbing spots
bruce fischer
Good hiking. Go early! At 10:30 on a Saturday, there was a line to get in.
Johnathan Farrington
Stunning views, a range of difficulty in hikes, and lots of company! This is an amazing state park, however, there were a lot of people there when I visited, even during January. I see lots of reviews saying that 4 wheel drive is needed, but I saw a '98 Toyota driving with no trouble, I was with a group in a minivan which had no trouble. If you are an experienced driver and will patiently take your time to avoid tricky dips any car should be more than adequate.
This is a great place to bring the family and take a hike over the weekend, I wouldn't recommend it for camping or staying an extended amount of time. If you are a rock climber this is one of the best spots in Colorado.
Nicolas Gallegos
So beautiful canyon with a very nice river falls
Kelsey Kaplan
Really difficult to find trail heads, but super pretty and moderately easy hikes!
Jim Clark
Beautiful
Sasha Stewart
Great place to spend an afternoon or am entire day. Bring food and water and waterproof hiking shoes. Come early you secure parking spot and avoid lines at the office. Lots of hiking, rock climbing, bouldering opportunities. Lots of fun activities overall and awesome place to visit with your family or a pet
Jason Wallace
What a phenomenal hike to the top!

I almost don't want to review this place, because I want it to myself. Amazing.
Aaron Howell
Reasonable entrance fee (8$?), great trail system.
