Reviews of White Pines Forest State Park
I came here with my boyfriend, best friend and her husband, and we had a lovely time! This park is located (literally) across the street from the cabins where we were staying. It was cold (we went in mid-December) and there was snow on the ground, but it turned out to be a nice, quasi-holiday outing!
The trails were well marked, even in the snow! And they even have trails designated for folks who have difficulties getting around. This was a very nice hike, and I can't wait to do it again!
Fantastic state park 1.5 hours from Chicago. Set in a gorgeous pine forest with small creeks running through lined with dolomite cliffs. Tons of well kept hiking trails and excellent fishing spots. Two campgrounds plus youth camping facilities. Also a beautiful almost 100 year old lodge with a restaurant and gift shop on site so you don’t even have to cook if you don’t want! Plenty of rentable cabins available. Campgrounds are not ideal for large rvs or motor homes - no pads or hookups and most sites are not very flat. Some require driving over uneven grass to access. But that said, each site is spacious and has picnic tables and fire pits. Plus the setting is gorgeous. Plenty of vault toilets and cedar ridge has flush toilets and shower building. Dumpsters for trash well distributed and one dump site for grey/black water. Tons to do in the surrounding area make this a great starting point for an amazing weekend.
Excellent place to visit. Children had a blast playing on the playground and when we had to drive through the water. Would recommend to anyone. Gonna try and get one of the cabins they offer next time.
Enjoyed a weekend at White Pines State Park. Only 4 stars because we stayed at Sunnycrest Family Campground and feel there could be some improvements made. All in all we enjoyed our time at the park. The breakfast buffet at the lodge was very good and the trails were a lot of fun for our family. If you have younger children it is well worth your time to drive into Dixon to let them play at the Wooden Wonderland park. There is also a large splash pad right next to the playground.
Loved all the hiking trails, it was beautiful. I stayed in the cabins and enjoyed a couple meals at the lodge. All wonderful.
Went to the lodge to have brunch with a group of friends. Everything was very good, an enjoyable event for all. We drove through the water crossing afterwards which is always a unique opportunity.
As a fellow park services laborer and an avid camper…. This place definitely didn’t hit the comfort mark. The place had a ‘check in’ with all the windows closed and no park maps in any of the boxes. It was basically a free for all. I could only imagine pulling into my camp site to see someone else there…… thankfully no one was. Other than that the scenery was beautiful! The hiking trails were perfect. My 6year old came with along with my dog and we had no trouble seeing the beauty Illinois actually had to offer.
I gave it three stars because I don’t even know why I paid. No one checked anything. I didn’t see anyone who worked there through the two days we were there. Their mowers obviously don’t come too often as the clippings were crazy. One of the trails had a branch across it which I could totally understand but it had lost its leaves and was grey…. It had been there a long time. Keep the ‘park’ part looking decent and I would have given 5 stars.
I will say this. You’re in nature. Enjoy it. And all those poison ivy freaks…. It’s a part of nature. Don’t come out to play if your scared. Nature isn’t perfection. But do sell what you advertise.
I've been visiting this place since I was a child, back when the deer park was still open on the early 90's. Came out to take my own kids here recently. Still as beautiful as I remember. Lovely gift shop area, staff is very nice. Nice playground area. Fun hiking trails. If you're passing through, stop by! It's definitely worth it.
Loved the fire pits around the cabins and the trails. The restaurant had a poor selection of vegan food, but the staff was polite and very helpful in finding me something to eat.
David and I went to White Pines State Park near Mt. Morris, IL. We had a delicious lunch at the lodge. Stopped by the gift shop, then road through the park.
Luckily, many of the trees have started changing to "Their Brilliant Colors!"
There are picnic grounds, campgrounds, and cabins. Plus the Lodge has a great menu. Bring the Whole Family 👪 ❤️
Such a great campground. Clean and well cared for. The A/C in the cabins is a must for my large sweaty self. The bonfires are great and the hiking trails and short, but delightful. I highly suggest eating in the restaurant here as you can taste the love and freshness from the kitchen.
Beautiful park, well maintained and cared for. Camping was very fun, although our grill was busted. Only negative was the constant trains being heard every hour (need ear buds when you sleep). Restaurant is fantastic, loved the experience, great service, and good food. City of Dixon was AMAGING!! The people are all genuinely kind and helpful. I would add this to a favorite place to visit. Lastly, I recommend the Ronald Reagan park and Lowell Park to visit while camping (Lowell Park had zip line swingset).
Nice and relaxing. Great restaurant and helpful staff.
Have been coming here since I was a teen and was goofy enough (then) to ask neighboring campers if I could borrow a cup of fire. Came here with my girlfriend-now-wife; came here with my wife & kids. My kids, now grown, come here regularly with their kids. This somehow feels like a sacred place, a thing ALWAYS to be treasured.
I actually kinda liked it better when the cabins had no TVs. But I have to admit, in the same breath, that one year, we raced here from Elgin right after work, maneuvered the detours around Sycamore's Pumpkin Festival that same weekend to a cabin with an old portable B&W TV we'd brought to catch the season premiere that resolved a cliffhanger of the previous season of Falcon Crest. (We feel better now; Maggie was OK.)
Love camping here in the off season terrible busy in summer good fishing and hiking
This is a beautiful state park, with rugged, shaded trails. Most of the trails are easy to moderately difficult, with somewhat steep inclines. Luckily there are stairs in key areas to help hikers make their way back up from the creek and day use areas.
This park makes for a lovely hike with lots of stopping points from end-to-end. Virtually every corner is picturesque, with a lovely overlook about midway
through the RED trail.
There are many cozy, shaded picnic tables, and thankfully several outhouses for those of us with tiny bladders and children.
I would recommend this location for families with small children capable of walking long distances without too much fuss. Several of the trails intersect, and all lead back to the parking areas or main road for a less likely chance of getting lost.
If you are looking for hiking with family, this is the best place to go.
We went in September which is probably the best season. It was amazing experience . My 5yo loved doing those moderately difficult trails. There are tons of beautiful overlooks a waterfall and wonderful bridges.
They even have an accessible trail for disabled people ( see picture).
We were staying in the log cabin so we were able to hit the trails in the evening and on next morning.
Overall the views are beautiful and there are .5 to 3 miles worth lengths of trails you can pick from.
Overall a good place to spend a day in summers.
Walked around very peaceful, had lunch there
This park is a hidden gem in the flatlands of northern Illinois! We wanted a place to hike on the way home from holiday travel and were very pleasantly surprised. We did the Whispering Pines, Red Squirrel, and Gray Squirrel trails on the east side of the park, then drove over to the west side for the Sleepy Hollow trail. The park is scenic and beautiful, my kids had a blast with the creek hops on the Sleepy Hollow trail, and we all enjoyed a nice December day together. I would love to come back to stay in the cabins or camp, and to see it in the spring or summer!
I spent the weekend camping here and had a great time. The campsite was nice and clean. The restrooms were alright, they get pretty dirty in the morning so it's best to use them right after they clean them around noon. The atmosphere and neighboring campsites were pretty cool. No one was out of line with their noise or music, and everyone respected quiet times. The trails are beautiful. It is like hiking in the ravines. 9/10. Highly recommend to camp here.
I hesitate to point more people to this park. It became our sanctuary during COVID. We camped here at least one weekend a month from June to Dec of 2020.
It is 99% tent camping (I have seen some smaller trailers) with no electricity or running water. The fire pits are really good for cooking and some of the spots are very nice. The toilets are pit, but clean. There is a shower room and running water bathroom in one location, but during COVID we found it way too crowded and stayed away.
The hiking trails are very easy, but beautiful and are a wonderful reprieve from our daily life in Chicago. They are not the type of trails for those seeking high adventure and seclusion—they are for a leisurely stroll in gorgeous trees.
We had a picnic dinner at one of the shelters, then walked our dog through part of the park. It is big, has a creek running through it, a campground and a restaurant. Lots of trails to hike, wide open spaces for playing games at a picnic, can even wade through part of the creek at one part.
Great place for a short hike! Beautiful scenery and well marked trails! Pick up a trail map at the gift shop. The only downside for me personally is we had to make our our route utilizing 4 or 5 different trails to achieve a 3.5 mile hike. But still worth the beauty!
As first time being at this state park, we had a really nice time. Did a few trails, scenery is beautiful and kids really enjoyed driving over the creek. My only complaint would be the trails are not long but it was an enjoyable time.
Great campground away from it all! Super clean, lots of nice tent camping options. Walk in camping rsvp with camp host. or rsvp 72 hours ahead online. Hot showers and flush toilets located next to camp host.
Very clean and quiet. The "hard" trail isn't really hard at all. The bathrooms and showers were surprisingly clean. A great place to do some weekend camping.
This enormous State Park, located in the town of Mt Morris, is a terrific place to be! Beautiful campsite for a weekend getaway.
White Pine State Park allows nature lovers to Hike, Camp, Picnic, Hunt, and Fish. Need I say More?
Multiple Trails having varied difficulty levels, welcome everyone to hike through the forest and cross over the Creek. The trails, we hiked through, were so peaceful that the only thing, we could hear, was the sound of water flowing through.
Tall Pine Trees gazing the sky could be seen all around the park. My 4-year-old loved accumulating Acorns in her tiny backpack.
PS- Some of these trails are accessible. Bikes, not allowed on the trails.
#hiking #StatePark
Beautiful area. Plenty of picnic areas. A few trails. We hiked the Sleepy Hollow trail which seems to be a favorite. The fords (where you drive thru the creek) seem to be a highlight of the park and even though they have foot bridges people are supposed to use there are always people walking thru the water where cars need to cross and hold up traffic in doing so as many of them are not paying attention while playing in the water. (Signs are posted about not crossing on foot/wading in the water) It is a smaller park, great for day trips, not overly crowded and for the most part very peaceful.
I really like the scenery at this park. The stream that runs through adds a really nice touch just for hanging out or for hiking. The nice thing about this park is that the trails are really organized and have difficulty ratings. I don't completely understand the metrics for this difficulty but it was nice that it was there. Sleepy hallow is my favorite trail.
Great trails of different levels. Beautiful creek with great bridges to cross over providing wonderful photo opps All Over this Amazing state park! Then the wade in part if the creek is refreshing and beautiful! 😍😊🦋🌻🌲🌳🌼 …
Cool place to visit. We did not camp here tho. It appeared that all of the campsites were super close to the road wandering thru the park. We prefer hike in camping. Personal preference. You do get to drive thru the river in a couple of spots to get into the park. Pretty neat for the kids! There were a few reservable shelters available through the park. Plenty of creek/river fishing and what appeared to be hiking trails that crossed the river in a few spots. Definitely a good day trip to BBQ and picnic and spend time out doors. The main sign out front advertises theater and restaurant, we didn’t see these places. Have fun and go spend time in the woods!!!
Plenty of trails with varying difficulty....plenty to do here with a river and some very nice views. They have grills so no need to bring your own....plenty of outhouses all over. Love this place very well kept.
Great park for tent camping, not competing with RV's. And some great hiking trails. And if your a kayaker makes a nice base camp really close [6miles to boat launch] to the Rock River.
This is a good destination for a day trip. You can hike all of the trails in one day or spread them out over a weekend. The Sleepy Hollow trail is the best.
The park is beautiful and charming, but the camping earned it three stars. The rangers do not seem to enforce quiet time or the number of people allowed on a site. The last time I was there, there were a few noisy overcrowded sites and someone bug bombed the entire campground with something that looked like a leaf blower. A bug spray fog drifted across and I was breathing in bug spray at the other end of the campground.
The campsites are just okay. The train horns at night are a bummer. That being said, we haven't found anything better this close to Chicagoland so we still occasionally camp here for the weekend. I don't feel so bad about the camping when I consider how cheap the sites are, but I hate knowing a bad neighbor could ruin our trip.
Love This Park! Me and my girlfriend drive here for a good hike with our dogs. I think it's worth the trip, especially when the fall colors are showing.
This was a wonderful, clean, unique park! You could drive through the creek waters and hike trails of varying difficulty. Many picnic spots too. I'd love to come back and camp sometime!
White Pines Forest State Park is a tiny on a map and enormous in reality. There are several paths ranging from half of one mile, to two miles in length. A day trip would be fine, however the lodging and cabins nearby provide a resplendent retreat. Bring the bugs spray!
Absolutely great!!!! My husband and I had done a photoshoot one day out there thanks to the incredible kaitlyn Brubaker!!
Absolutely beautiful wedding canyon and lovely river-side hiking!
There had been quite a bit of rain, so the river overflowed a couple paths.
The staff at the lodge was friendly and helpful.
Great place to hike, picnic let the kiddos run and just make great family memories!
So far so good. Visiting on the warmest day in February with muddy trails and icy trails made getting around a little more difficult. But, seemingly this park is nice with a reported 2.5 miles of trails, per All Trails. We look forward to explore this park further when it warms up!
Quiet and restful. Great for all ages. Does have a handicap trail. Cabins are available and campground for RVs as well as tents. Restaurant is not bad. 10 percent discount in gift shop for eating at restaurant at gift shop. Trails range from easy to hard. Cabin area provides two fire pits. No ground fires allowed in cabin area. If one wants to barbecue in the cabin area, the picnic area is available. Park provides barbecue pits. Downside is that, unlike Starved Rock, the State does not own the lodge and cabins. There is no cleaning staff.
Beautiful park, lots of trails to explore. Went to the restaurant it is a bit expensive but the food and service were very good.
A real log cabin experience. Great for family trips and themed weddings. A great getaway to escape the city mayhem, only 90 mins from the big city. A nice retreat but not in the middle of nowhere. There is phone reception, haha!
Nice buffet with plenty of options to choose from. A little bit pricey for what they offered... However, what they had all tasted pretty good.
Lots of fun stuff here. My question is where in the creek do they release the trout for troit season? How long do they usually survive. Can they cross the fjords?
Wonderful old world ambiance . Nice quite peaceful. The all the employees are awesome. The cabins are better than any high dollar hotel in the city. Every thing is fantastic here.
Beautiful area to fish, hike or picnic. Well kept. Plenty of open space for everyone.
Such a beautiful park. And love the gift shop found a really cute plack for my sister and law 💕 …
A nice cozy atmosphere. Was there for a family function. Staff was friendly. Food that was had catered was very good. They have live entertainment most nights or at least weekends at dinner time from what I saw posted outside on their board. The have gift shop and you can rent a cabin to camp out there
Awesome place to stay and visit. Great trails.
We stayed for my nieces wedding at the canyon. The staff was incredible! They are the stars of this whole place! From the bartenders, waitresses to the store staff, everyone treated us like gold. The cabins were adorable, and the futons in them are so comfy to sleep on! Thank you guys for everything!
Great family camping, family friendly hikes, and clean bathrooms with showers. The area is gorgeous with its hills and bluffs, and a clean creek that you get to drive through.
I've been coming here since I was a baby my parents always take me here and I love everything here, the fun stepping Stones, all the different trails, camping is affordable and theirs so many things to do here, if you ever want to see something beautiful please come here.
These private resort-style cabins are a perfect romantic getaway 💖 We love it! …
Great place to camp! Clean outhouses, cute gift shop, nice hiking trails. Love the tree identification area. Be aware if you have a low riding car, you have to cross a stream to get to the camp sites.
One of my favorites. A very pretty Park. And at least now they have water... even though the sign still points to where the water used to be.
This state park has scenic views, nice trails, log cabins are really cute. Definitely will be back. So much more to do.
Best park I've been to since a child we've been camping here and having family reunions weddings you name it. Awesome place to visit
Dinner theater. Entertainment was great and so was the food. Always a good time at the White Pines theater.
Great park. Needs more maps and crossing stones at stream. Still a must visit.
Great spot for a cub scout camping weekend. Plenty of room and a lot a trails to experience the outdoors. Also close to Oregon which has all you need.
This location has beautiful trails. The lookout peak isn't as amazing as I thought it would be, and even though it was supposed to be a difficult trail it wasn't that bad at all. But overall nice scenery and wide variety of trails to choose from.
Love the trout, so many every time I go. Plus with my trout stamp on my fishing license I can take 5 a day. the most I've taken in one day was 4, that was only because we had a few people who never tried it and wanted to eat some. so I figured I'd cook them some.
Beautiful forest.
Lots of hiking paths. Great for families
We had an amazing family time.... there in nothing like spend time with them on a quiet place like the woods.....
Went here with my Cub Scout den for a hike. Very nice hike but be warned the trails are not marked very well and you need to know how to read a map. Very scenic with stream nearby where you catch some small sunfish. You can stay overnight but we did not by staying in rented cabins. There is a small restaurant to sit down and order. There is a small gift shop with a very small selection of drinks/food. Gift shop sells the usual "I was here gear." We will come back to rent a cabin in the future.
Water crossings in your vehicle are pretty neat even if you an adult! Great scenery. Trail that was taken was nice and rugged but fairly wide and well kept. There was a stair that had been struck by a fallen tree but appeared they were working on that. Food and service at the restaurant were surprisingly incredible. I recommend the Pork Tenderloin, this is not your high school breaded tenderloin! Sides were equal to the main course. Dessert was also especially good. Highly recommend to anyone. 9/12 was not very busy at all.
Excellent camping site.
Great place to take the family and enjoy God's nature
We enjoyed our stay. The camp sites, however, are very close together and pretty small.
It's a beautiful park. We always love driving around the park.
The stream running over some of the bridges was so pretty!
It's under new management but has many of the long time staff. Check it out and give your own opinions. I'm somewhat biased now that Beth retired and a big corporation took over.
This is a unique place, great trails!
We always enjoy coming here, for nature, the gift shop, and of course the restaurant. Meatloaf and chicken pot pie! Broccoli side salad is tasty!
Great place to relax and enjoy nature. Hiking trails, cabins, restaurant and bonfires. Fun!
Went for Thanksgiving day buffet. Food was plentiful. I personally did not care for the seasoning used for the Chicken. Roast beef, and turkey. Zervice was good given the number of people their. Food was warm and salads and desserts were good. Price was reasonable.
Been coming here for almost 40 years. First with my grandparents. Now my parents can take my kids. Wonderful park and wonderful trails.
Had a great meet Santa breakfast and a wonderful buffet.
Amazing 👌 comfortable plush cozy and warm describe this authentic cabin. Everything you could hope to have. Delightful staff and great scenery! Highly recommend …
This place is great for a one or two night getaway! Tired of dealing with the kids? Stressed about the meeting on Monday? Check this place out. Quaint little downtown close by to enjoy and great food at the lodge on the White Pines property! Thank me later
Beautiful place to spend the day. Hiking trails, photogenic steam with rock faces, camping... The restaurant is open again I recommend everyone try the weekend breakfast buffet!
Wonderful family oriented park! You actually cross running water in your car....one of a kind fords which were put in many years ago.
Always loved this park ,, walking through the water with my kids is always fun .. who's gonna slip first lol
Stellar brunch buffet once again. Great family atmosphere and friendly staff. Plenty to do after your meal to burn off calories whether it be going for a hike or playing on playground equipment. Been coming here for years and will continue to.
As you breathe in cool fresh pine air, hike, fish, identify birds and plants you experience a feeling of returning, coming back, coming home. Climb up to the top of the cliffs and see the results of powerful glaciers that moved across the area thousands of years ago creating hills and valleys. These glaciers carried seeds which planted themselves and grew into the gigantic trees that surround you. You are seeing history. You are seeing proof of when climate change and global warming actually started, probably 60,000 years ago. Come to White Pines and see stair steps formed by nature and accompanying stair steps built by workers and caretakers. Come to White Pines and let the trees surround you. Breathe in. Just be.
Very cozy State Park with cabins. Unfortunately the campground closed early in the season when I went. There are hiking trails for both the beginner and intermediate. One loop is .5 mi long.
Great restaurant, nice selection, great food and service. Really nice lodge setting in a beautiful park. Worth the drive for sure.
The breakfast buffet is amazing. The only thing I would change is thr potatoes. Au Garten usually is a breakfast potatoe.. home fries or old-fashioned fries are better for breakfast
What's really special here is the plot of land hosting the variety of trees that can be found throughout the park.
Had breakfast here and it was delicious and we had great service too
Always a great place to camp, although last time there was a camper that ran a generator ALL NIGHT, that as loud as a lawnmower. Otherwise, the staff is great. Grounds are clean. Showers work. And the trails are great. Have been camping here over 20 years.
Camped here this past weekend (6/5-6/7)
It was great! The host is super nice. It was packed with quarantine being over. Camp sites are pretty decently sized with built in pits. Some don’t have grates but I brought my own. I will say some sites are in an incline. But besides that there are vault toilets widely accessible and the trails are awesome.
Beautiful park. Great lodge with nearby cabins.
The place was alright, but nothing crazy.
You have to cross water fords to get in, so be prepared for that.
No one was in the check in center. You had to hunt them down at a campsite, which there aren't really maps so you have to travel around looking, which is not possible with a 38 ft toyhauler.
The sites were SUPER non level. My friends had tent spots and you literally slide down a hill through the night. We had a camper and were TERRIFIED it was gonna rain while we were there. No way we would got out.
The river looks like it would be neat, but you can't swim and it was just a couple inches deep.
There's just not really anything there.
Great place for the family, not very primitive. hiking trails are great, had a great time exploring.
Small and convenient getaway. The restaurant is nice, but a few more activities would make it 5 stars.
Spent a wonderful afternoon at White Pines Lodge watching the Gordy and Debbie "Country Legends" show. It was truly the best show I've seen in a long time. The food was so delicious and I have never been disappointed. Thank you to White Pines and Gordy and Debbie.
Always a great place to go walk the trails have a picnic always enjoy this state park
We enjoyed our visit as we always do. We noticed there was no phone or clock in the rooms. We would rather have regular TV programing. The show was lots of fun and food delicious. The staff gets a gold star
Very nice trails. Clean.
If I were just rating the hiking, I'd give it an easy 5 stars. While there aren't any long hikes (1 mile is the longest)The Sleepy Hollow Trail is still great fun. A few good scrambles, some fun stream crossings that the kiddos will LOVE, and beautiful landscape features!
BUT... the camping...
1) the campsites are absolutely piled on top of each other with little privacy between them. The best site at the Cedar Ridge Campground, in terms of space and privacy is 24 (second might be 25 or 29).All of the others are piled on top of each other.
2) related to #1 was that we experienced some of the WORST ettiquite we've ever experienced from other campers. Multiple sites had music blaring, one of our neighbors was loudly listening to a soccer game on the radio until 1am and shouting, an RV parked at a site near us ran their loud generator until about 10pm, folks let their kids start screaming at 6am. 🤦🏼
3) People driving their cars to the bathroom/shower building in the middle of the night, as opposed to grabbing a flashlight and walking the (maybe) 100 yards. 😑
Camping is about returning to nature. It's about finding quiet and peace away from the hub-bub of it all. If you want to listen to music outside, go to your backyard or local park. Teach your kids, as we have taught ours, that early mornings and evenings are time for quiet play at the campground.
The camp host did nothing to keep the unruly campers quiet, despite being only a couple sites away and surely hearing the commotion. The only positive I can offer about the camping is that the sites were clean and well kept and the sites along the back loop are next to a grove of pine trees, providing a pine needle carpet to pitch your tent on, which is wonderful (especially if you've ever had to camp on rocky or hard packed ground before, you will feel very spoiled!)
We aren't sure if we will ever return, given how bad the local camping ettiquite was and how the host did nothing about it, but we all agreed that we definitely wouldn't ever camp here again unless we could get site 24. It's the only one worth booking in our opinion.
Nice park, good fishing and cheap. Only 2 sites with electricity but that isn't a problem in an RV. PS not many big nor leveled sites for a bigger RV, 24ft one was ok.
Hidden gem near Grand Detour, IL. Great camping!
clean campground with nice trails. I enjoy the scenery, wish the pandemic didn't ruin their cabin and restaurant business. The camp sites are a bit on top of one another, but when camping with a group it isn't an issue.
One of my most favorite parks in all of Illinois. If you're a hiker, there are hills here for some nice elevation change. There are many trails which you can combine to get ample miles in. The camping here is always great. The sites are not huge, but not too tight and are pretty well spread out. The lodge is at the top of the hill with a nice little giftshop and restaurant as well as cute, quaint cabins for an overnight stay. This park is a total gem. Oh yeah, and trout fishing is great here too.
Great rustic lodge, very good breakfast, senic drive to get there
What's better than walking around in the woods with someone you love? I remember doing that with my dog and now I get to do that with my wife. Occasionally we will drag the tent and spend the night there. Since the restaurant is so good, I don't bother to bring anything to eat or cook with. We just pig out in the great restaurant.
Great place to visit! Lots to do here, from Hiking the handful of trails (Sleepy Hollow being my favorite), to driving your car though the water on the fords, to visiting the restaurant, going to the theater for dinner and a show, visiting the camp store, staying in a cabin, or good old fashion camping, there is a lot to do here. Beautiful views of craved rock walls and nice hikes through the forest there is a lot to like about this place. My family has day tripped here to enjoy the nature and have a picnic, we have also stayed in the cabins twice. The cabins are nice, we have stayed in the one room with an attached bathroom. They are very comfortable and a great place to stay if camping is not your thing.
Great short trails. Dinner theater. Great cabins. Fords in the creek you can drive through.
A nice forest preserve not all that large and it can be very crowded in the summer months. There is a river and a series of bridges that allow access to hills on both sides of the park It would be a great place to take the family on a summer cookout. A fairly large campground is also located on one side of the park and a restaurant is located in top of the wooded hills.
What a delightful place! Great location for a picnic, camping and hiking. Lovely restaurant as well.
We have many beautiful parks in our area, and White pines my favorite! The trails are mostly tree covered, so even on the hottest days we're able to get our walks in. 🐕 Dog seal.of approval 😊🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 …
Very peaceful
Hit the White Pines Inn on a Sunday for their brunch followed by a family hike. Beautiful and the paths are well marked
Nice small park with cabins and an on-site restaurant. Trails are not too difficult but are scenic. Our one disappointment was that we didn't realize they allowed bow hunting on the trails in October. We weren't comfortable hiking with that happening. I'll ask next time so I don't book a cabin when that is going on. They also allow some fishing at various times in the river that runs through the park.
Very nice clean place, but food was not that good. Service was very good.
A terrific spot that we have been going to for years, is now open again after a one year plus shutdown. We were delighted to see the friendly staff from the restaurant and the cabin rentals.
Absolutely loved our visit. Very friendly greeting from the time we walked in the door. Lunch was superb! We will be back very soon! Just a lovely rustic dining experience reminiscent of the supper club Ishnala in Wisconsin’s Dells area on Mirror Lake.
Very unique park. You ford across a couple of tiny creeks that run over the road! Saw many low sitting cars and mini vans go right through. Hiking trails have different difficulty levels all marked with color coded trail markers so pick up a map at the park office.
I live near by and have frequented this park for years. I was just there yesterday and I am sad to have to say it's a dirty park. There is trash strewn up and down all the trails, some of the park is now closed off with signs telling visitors they risk being arrested if they go any further. I am not sure what that is all about. The creek is hard to fish from due to debris under the water and it's usually fairly busy. It has been years since I ate at the resturant and have never stayed in the cabins although they do look nice from the outside. I feel the park needs to be managed better and visitors should certainly clean up after themselves. The park does offer campgrounds but they seem to be crowded together and dirty. The trails aren't too bad but again, do like I do and take bag to pick up some of the trash that is all over the place.
Update: I camped here for a couple days during mid summer '18. This is the first time I have used the camp grounds but enjoyed it. It wasn't too pricey and the lark seems to have been cleaned up a bit from the last time I wrote a review. But again I stress to visitors, PLEASE place trash where it belongs and that isn't on the ground.
Always great food and hospitality. Friendly staff, and nice small gift shop. Scenery is second to none of you're an outdoors person.
I have been going to white pines my whole life and it's still just as amazing as it was when I was a kid. The trails are well kept, the bathroom on cedar ridge loop is a real treat while camping. Thanks to the staff for doing a great job on the park!
White pines was awesome. The lunch buffet was great and the "Neil Diamond" guy was great.
Even better was the wonderful gift shop!! I did some damage in there. LOL
I would have gave a five star rating but with the state budget restraints quite a bit of the park has fallen into a state of disrepair. Still a great place for the grandchildren to explore and learn about nature.
The park is one of our favorite places to visit. The fun of driving your car through the stream is thrilling for the kids and the hiking while definitely not easy is worth it if you can. The trails are not handicap accessible. While hiking, you get to for the streams on foot with the aid of stepping stones.
Everyone in our family from 3 to 60 can't wait to go.
Very nice campground. Good value. The price is very reasonable. They have a nice bathroom / shower area.
The campsites are usually hilly so check the site before booking. There are no parking pads, so you have to park on the grass.
If you don't like trains, you may not like the place. The trains can be very loud. But, I don't mind it.
There are plenty of hiking trails in the forest area.
Bicycling: You would need to ride on busy roads to get here. Bicycle parking, it's a campground so nothing to really lock the bike up.
I will continue to return here.
Hiked the trails on this beautiful day. Had a blast.
Great state park. The cabins are comfortable and rustic. Reservations are offered year-round. The hiking trails are well groomed and offer challenge from the novice to the expert hiker. Only downside is that cell reception here is spotty at best, with Verizon having the best reception.
Very nice park! Love eating at the restaurant on the weekends, with the all you can eat breakfast and lunch buffet. Alot of very nice trails to hike, the scenery is very pretty, alot of nice places for photography. Fishing is not the best, but still nice to relax on the creek bank with friends and family. I recommend spending a day enjoying the outdoors here. Campsites look nice, but I don't camp here, there are no elec. Hookups for campers. Just primitive tent camping.
Beautiful state forest and great campgrounds. The hiking trails are well kept and beautiful scenery. I'll definitely be back again.
Wonderful waitress Melissa R. and pastries perfectly presented. Buffet was bountiful.
Lovely well kept . park rangers are a visible presence. Awesome family atmosphere.
Has camping .dinner theater. Picnic area boat ramp. Hiking trails.
Beautiful state park with so much to explore! Can't wait to go back, maybe camp or rent a cabin! Kids loved it too.
Beautiful place to take the family and go hiking, or have a picnic. The scenery is amazing. Good for getting away from everything for a bit!
Me and my wife and my dog Rock love the place I possessed to my wife at this place last year we should be getting married there sometime soon May 27
Server was excellent. I really liked the restaurant.
It's kept very clean. Always fun to ford the river in your vehicle. Came to see the fall colors but we were a little early. But I know when that time gets here it'll be beautiful.
Short but well marked trails through the woods. Nice gift shop. There are cabins too. Not sure what they're like, but it was a beautiful area.
White Pines Forest State Park is one of my favorite places to go. For my entire life I have enjoyed this park, especially driving through the fords, hiking the trails, and having picnics with family and friends. Don't forget about the lodge where they have great food, fun souvenirs to purchase, awesome shows, and comfortable cabins. They also have nice campsites. If I were you I would check out White Pines Forest State Park today!
Kids n I love this place every time we go. Prepare to get wet on the trails.
Wonderful place to take walks and look at the amazing splendor of wild flowers, wild life, then listening to the rustling water. The park is breath taking. I have been living around the area for years I just didn't know what wS so close.
A nice variety of hiking trails.
One of our favorites. Great atmosphere relaxing and tasty at a reasonable cost. Just try it. You will agree.
Love this park. There are a couple of fords,(yes the kind where u drive through a stream in your car, not for the feint of heart after a hard rain) at the entrance, so check to make sure the river is down and the park is open. Beautiful stand of old growth pine, I believe one of the last in IL. Great hikes, an old WPA built main lodge with a sweet gift shop (ice cream!!) Nice campgrounds. I first came here about 40 years ago, went back a few times as a kid, then went back this year. It has improved since I was here. Very pretty little spot. Great bird watching too!
Great love ittle dinner theater good food
Great place to take the family camping, hiking, or fishing. Was very peaceful when my wife and I went for our 4yr anniversary.
Beautiful state park with clean, rustic cabins, theater, and a restaurant on the premises. The assorted hiking trails are fun for families. We came when our children were young, now we come with the grandchildren.
We go to White Pines every year at least once a year and it is always a memorable experience. There are several trails that give you the opportunity to enjoy nature, but none of the trails are longer than a mile or so, which gives you an opportunity to walk several trails and experience multiple parts of the park in one day. It is especially pretty in the fall and they also have and lol wren very food restaurant on site.
Has always been one of my favorite places to go camping since I was a kid. Not very buggy. Great scenery. Good utilities. Very good place to go camping with the family!
Beautiful campground with a trout stocked creek. Staff is very friendly and best of all they don't lock up the grounds after dark so if you are arriving late or really early morning you can still get to your camp site. Only downfall is some times the main road in floods from the creek so make sure you know to look for the emergency entrance
Awesome place, the phone reception was spotty but that was ok who need it when bonding in the woods, the problem was my grandfather trying to locate us and he couldn't get ahold of us. Also we had 4 sites all next to each other and our tents were on a slope. We kept sliding throughout the night. Other that that it was clean, quite, and nice
This is one of our favorite places - it has it all! Perfect for hiking, picnics, taking photographs and even doing a little fishing. In the winter they have a Christmas tree forest and visits with Santa that the kids love. And the food at the restaurant is homecooked deliciousness! We'll be coming back for years. ❤
We had a nice time on a short daytrip spent two hours hiking and had a nice lunch. Lunch was reasonable cost and taste good. The facilities were clean and well maintained both at the gift shop and restaurant.
Looks like a sad sight, used to be packed full of people when I was a wee little lad but now it looks like poor illinois leadership has taken a huge devestating toll on the park, you can't even tell if the park is open or not it's like a ghost town
Great hiking, but lackluster camping. The trails are hilly and usually only wide enough for one person at a time, but the frequent stream crossings (concrete stones provide a dry walk path) and colorful dragonflies make it an enjoyable hike. We did not pick up any ticks here. Unfortunately, the map of the trails is incorrect so some guess-work is required to find your way around.
As for the camping, I found the sites to be very close together and many were simply in the median between lanes of traffic. I should point out that I haven't encountered any campgrounds any more spaced out in this proximity to Chicago. Quiet hours were not enforced at all - which is either a pro or a con depending on your preferences. No showers, but there are latrines (bring a flashlight) and dumpsters throughout.
We love to eat here! Service is great. Menu is wonderful! Family tradition!!
This park is absolutely stunning all the way around! My cousin got married here, I've camped here on several occasions, and I love to take photos here. Only thing that bothers me is that the park staff are often hard to get ahold of for reservations.
Crave family Restaurant is a modern well kept clean and comfortable restaurant for breakfast lunch or dinner. The staff is confident and attentive and professional and the food was of excellent quality and prepared visually and tastefully. A very good experience.
Really enjoyed our time there. We weren’t expecting to enjoy so many trails and have a peaceful night sleep. Furthermore, the camp host was beyond kind.
We only ate there for a Birthday Party. Food was very good. The forest looked awesome. The cabins and trails looked like fun. Would like to come back and stay in the cabins for a getaway.
What can I say about White pine spark that you people don't already know Beautiful wedding canyon their park is beautiful you can drive through the water you can go camping swimming the place is just magnificent They have nice playgrounds to play on and just a lot of open space, trails to walk, It's that our families favorite place to do our family reunions because our family is so big we all can fit in the park and have had weddings out there the park is good for a lot of things and they also do a rock climbing show in the summer once it twice the year maybe more I've never asked I've always just went He should go check it out It's really cool. punching a big monster truck climb the canyon walls! Come and have some great time with family and friends Just get out of your loved ones together The more the merry and the better time it'll be. Oh yeah and they also have a skating rink across the street called White pines skatepark I grew up it's a lovely place the floors are gorgeous to skate on and for the ones that don't know how to skate they get put in the middle of the rain to learn so that way we don't have to worry about running them over they always have that rolling place and I've always loved it. Keep me safe while I was learning how to skate! Can't wait to take my daughter and her friends!
Beautiful scenery. Creek through the whole park. Ford's u drive your car right through the water. Awesome trails. Stocked trout among other fishing. Love this park. Must see!!!
Great place to see fall colors!
Beautiful park we just drove through to see what it looks like and we are anxiously awaiting our return to go camping.
We stayed at the Inn this month. Great cabins and reasonably priced restaurant. Cabins - Well priced, CCC built with all amenities. Park - Great Trails. My 6 year old enjoyed the trails even though they were difficult for her. Restaurant - Reasonably priced. Good Menu and a great sunday breakfast buffet. We are going back again!!
We love it here 2nd time back. First time was our honeymoon is the canyon view cabin aka the couple cabin. Now back with the kids in the whispering pines cabion to hike and have camp fires. We loved the family time we got this visit. No WiFi or cell service so its a nice break from the now a days distractions and really focus on each other.
Absolutely love this park. Great game lace to do anything outdoors. We hiked 5 miles on the trails and even had a picnic. It’s an hour away, but well worth it
It has been our go to many times for Easter. The breakfast buffet is pretty good. I love that it's in the park. We walk the trails after the meal.
Saw the Gordy and Debbie musical show at their lunch time dinner theater. Food and wait staff were excellent. The show was fantastic. First one we've been to. We must go do it again.
Great place for people of all ages to enjoy nature ,hike ,picnics, overnight stays in cabins food souvenirs and shows. Our group came up on a bus,had wonderful food from the buffet and saw a musical show. Always a great time there!!!
We have been going there for years. Wonderful place, great plays, quaint cabins, wonderful breakfasts. Buffet dinner is good, .not great, but good, however you don't go there just for the food. It's the atmosphere and great people you always meet.
Los of picnic tables and barbecue grills!
This park is another one of the priceless gems in this area. The splashy drive-through fords of the creek, the wonderful big-timber lodge, and the magnificent hiking trails among the towering pines make it worth a special trip.
Campground his self feels cramped and tends to flood when it rains. There are nice cabins in a Serene picturesque setting and the on-site restaurant (complete with wood burning fireplace) serves excellent food.
Always a great place. Grew up in the area and spent many weekends there in the 70's thru to today. Camping hiking and telling of the old back 3 Rd ford that flooded back in the 50's and a ice pond.
Good camping and some easy hiking. One problem about camping - trains come rolling through all night long, and blow horns frequently. Must be some regulation stipulating sounding horns at certain locations because every train had the same pattern of horn blasts. Trains are not right at park, but not very far away. Went fishing in river hoping to catch some bluegill, and was surprised when my 5 year old grandson pulled out (with help) a 1 1/2 - 2 pound trout. Made his weekend.
After spending a weekend at the Rock River Riders motorcycle hillclimb across the street, my boys and I hopped over to white pines for a moment of serenity and were not disappointed. The creek crossings on our way to the lodge proved a novel cause for celebration. The well maintained campsites on a beautifully sculpted landscape left us yearning for more. Hopefully we'll be afforded the privilege of camping there in the not too distant future.
I love the pines. Nothing better than a nice winter hike.
This is a great place for hiking. There are a ton of trails. All are pretty easy to walk, but you can definitely walk for miles. I have ate their once and the food was delicious.
Have always have had a great time there and perfect place for photo shoots. Very picturesque with water, bridges crossing creek, and small cliffs. Great picnic spots and open area to play games or hiking.
Food was mediocre, buffet table was positioned right where you enter building so when it's busy you have no room to go past other people, one side was too close to the wall, architecture was wonderful, seating was adequate but crowded together, overall not a bad place but the buffet needs to be in the center of a room of it's own. They would of gotten 4 stars then.
Always a favorite for hiking. Beautiful park close to home.
Clean trails and creek. Great hiking with the kids (6-9-12). Fjords were a bit deep but still passable as it rained last night.
Used to love driving across the fjords as a kid. Hiking the trails is always fun here. Most trails are pretty easy and fun. Highly recommend spending a day out here.
Went to the Threater Restaurant and enjoyed a buffet dinner and the music was great also. Will be going back soon.
Beautiful area. Only it is not well maintained by the State. Grass has not been cut in some areas, and weed growth has not taken care of along the creek. The State politicians should be ashamed for not providing for adequate care of this Illinois gem.
Atmosphere great. Food good. But breakfast buffet with only link sausage and bacon for $$ and $3 coffee
It's a pleasant park for hiking and camping. I haven't been there fishing, but hunting is enjoyable if you're looking for rabbits or squirrels.
An astoundingly good park with great paths to hike on and ample places to camp and have a cookout. The people around this park do not value this park high enough. It is wonderful.
Beautiful for a forest walk. The restaurant is pretty good, too! We appreciated the variety on the menu.
We had a blast camping and walking trails. Staff here very friendly and accommodating. There is something for all outdoor enthusiasts. Will be making this trip again.
I love the trails here and the peaceful environment. They also have really nice cabins. A long time favorite of mine.
Nice lunch! Had the chicken pot pie. It was very good. It had a light flaky crust on top and a nice filling of vegetables, chicken and gravy like sauce. Very good!
There's a lot of big things happening around here. Great park for exploring, but also, awesome lodge, and cabin rentals. A good mix of quiet, isolated trails and parks with kids running around!
One of the more scenic parks in the Ogle County area great for family get-togethers, weddings, and hiking or camping. A very nice ride through the park will relax anyone
I just took a trip down memory lane with my youngest son about all the camping trips we took to White Pines when they were growing up and we lived in Carpentersville, IL. Our middle son still takes his son to the Pines for fishing. It was a wonderful place to take kids and let them roam!!! We had soggy tents, a tent that collapsed as I was folding sleeping bags prior to taking it down - with me in it, Picking mullberries, the kids fishing, my husband doing paintings - one that the dog jumped into the back of the Suburban and sliding across the painting getting a green butt, and cooking breakfast at a shelter over a wood fire.... Wonderful memories! Later (after kids left home), my husband and I would drive out to have lunch at the Lodge
Love this park. Out of the way. Never crowded. Variety of trails to choose from. They even have cabins and a nice little restaurant.
Nice trails and atmosphere.
It’s a special place to me. The smell of the pines, beauty of the trails, the historic cabins and diner built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s, Inexpensive tent camping, fishing Pine Creek, and more.
Very pretty even in January. Well kept and real inviting. Driving through the fords (water rushing over the bridges) was really cool and a first for me. Can not wait until summer to visit again.
Short moderately interesting trails. Not enough to count as exercise, but leg stretchers in some rocky terrain and woods. Wear your DEET.
Lovely park with lots of tall white pines. There is an area of labeled trees so you can learn your trees. Ironically the ash and elm trees which are dying all over the nation are dead here too. There are bridges that you drive over that also have water flowing over them.
Wonderful place to go. Just beautiful. Great place to take the family. Camping & cabins available. Call first.if your looking CV or a bea6get away this is it.
Beautiful park with plenty of hiking trails, picnic areas, lots of room for kids to play.
Nice campground
Unique 2 fords thru river- lovely lodge & cabins from '20s - beautiful trails/scenery. Nice staff. Very historic!
Love this park! Just wish the state would actually take care of it. Tons of places not mowed and hiking trails are becoming overgrown 😭 …
One of the BEST state parks in Northern Illinois. Plenty of trails to hike. Plenty of space for picnics large or small. There is also camping, fishing and cabin rentals.
Beautiful hiking trails and plenty of wildflowers in early spring. Trout lilies!!!!!!
The trail scenery was beautiful. They could have been better marked, but that is a small criticism. This park is worth a visit.
This place is stunning! There weren't many people so it made it even more enjoyable. I can't wait to go back.
Loved the trails and its really well maintained. The picnic area by the river is quite lovely. Would love to stay at the cabins some day.
Sunday breakfast buffet excellent!!!
Very relaxing placd to enjoy a good meal.
Great hiking and wonderful food! The lodge is so cozy and inviting.
Thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay at White Pines. Wonderful cabins, great hiking trails and beautiful scenery. Will definitely be back!
Absolutely beautiful. Going through the fords are fun, fishing is cool. Different level of trails make it a blast. Great views.
My husband and I were here for our anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations. The service of the restaurant was wonderful to along with very friendly people. I would highly recommend going here
White Pines is a great place for a family day trip, to hike and picnic.
Needs the grass and the banks mowed and as a person with MS it made it hard to walk through the grass to fish
Definitely a nice small park to drive threw water ways or get a cabin witch are very nice and well kept ! Nice restaurant in the park also a little pricey but good !
Beautiful place that's close to home.
Bountiful nature!! There are excellent hiking trails, running water over the roadways, and magnificent views!!! Beautiful Memories made here!!!
Our family stayed during this December, got to see the Scrooge show and it snowed the next day,we got to go for a family hike. We also cooked our meal over a camp fire.
First Ashby, Eddington, and Stultz family reunion! I’ve been going there all my growing up life and still love to go there! Looking forward to the next visit to the pines.
I like this place. Not too big, not too small. You can hike, you can grill, you can camp. They do close it in winter some days for hunting deer.
Awesome camping facilities. Enough rustic area for tents, facilities with plumbing and electric for the glampers. Room for large group outings. Pet friendly
Beautiful trails, with different levels of difficulty. My favorites are the ones that cross over water. There are stepping stones to cross the water.
Good time and decent cabins would recommend it
One of the nicest parks around with many nice walking trails, a stream, and of course majestic white pines. Good gift shop and restaurant too.
A beautiful Park/Forrest Preserve to spend time at.
The water is high. So I couldn't get all the way in the back.
The Fall Colors are coming out.
My favorite time of year.
One of my favorite places, nice trails with some higher overlooks, the restaurant and store attached are very quaint, although I miss the parrot
Amazing place to get away for a few days, we visit here at least yearly. Great breakfasts at the restaurant, cabins are perfect. Love this place
fresh fish and fresh rice every day
Very sad with the shape of the grass in some areas of the park. I am sure the weather and state budget cuts were part of the problems but foot tall grass and weeds do not work well for a picnic. Not usually the case but was recently.
Father's Day brunch was excellent.
Beautiful park! Great trails to hike and a great place for cooking out or getting together with family and friends.
It was a bit underwhelming. Thought there were more trails but perhaps I missed some. Scenery was nice and the trails were maintained.
Great place. They took care of everything and worked with us on last minute things. Definitely recommend if you're planning a wedding.
Love the place very quiet during the week can get crowded on the weekend but what can you expect in the summer very cheap and very clean place
Pretty, nice park with walking trails, Creek going through it, bathrooms, foot bridges, Really pretty!
One of those gems that continues to keep a special place in the hearts of many who frequent here. Year round, White Pines is a magical sort of sentimental place that seems stolen from another era. If that makes sense to you, then you know what I mean. If it doesn't, you'll just have to go and find that magic yourself.
This place is beautiful has lots of nice camp sites has trail's all over and very good fishing. It also has a place to get married beautiful place
Fun place to hike that isn't as crowded as some other state parks and isn't too far from Chicago. Lots of fun short trails!
My favorite place to go in the area.
Great place to be outside. Trout are hard to find. Saw some golden trout. Nothing biting. Great to be outside.
Great place for a hike or a cook out or to just get outdoors. Beautiful scenery! We go back time and time again!
Simple trials, air conditioned gift shop, multiple things to see.
Nice park. Restaurant not as good as it used to be though.
Went to the playhouse and saw Rick Lindy and the Wild Ones. Meal was good and the show was great. Very helpful and attentive staff!
Clean, kid-friendly, great hiking trails, and not many bugs. Highly recommend!
Wonderful clean silent park
Perfect day to enjoy the park. Fishing, hiking, picnic and visit the gift shop. Next time we said we want to camp.
I went to the place over the winter and had a great time but the place felt small for how far I drove to get there. I do think it might warrant some more exploring though.
I love white pines! I have photos on my instagram @annaforeverwandering
This place is great for hiking, picnics, views and family events!
A beautiful place to visit, you can rent cabins for the night, a good friend of mine's daughter got married there, they have a beautiful Chapel who married at outside
A very nice park. The trails are good any time of year.
Love the atmosphere very peaceful and relaxing. Had a excellent waitress she was very attentive . Compliments to the chef for an excellent meal.
The restaurant is under new management and the food and service was great! Be sure to support them in these trying times!
Had a great lunch! Great service! Looking to book a cabin this summer!
This park is beautiful. There's camping, picnic areas and trails galore.
Great place to hike on a HOT day. The woods take off 10 degrees.
Quaint, comfortable cabins. A great restaurant, and an outstanding staff!
Great place for eating at restaurant, and many hiking trails, picnicking, fishing, and cabins to stay the night. Also a wedding canyon.
Easy to medium hiking trails. Camping cabins. Lodge with wonderful food. Family friendly.
Serene, gorgeous park. A lot of space for picnics, hiking, enjoying the views.
One of the better parks in the area! Lots of great trails! Camping also available.
Always good food at the buffet with great service and the park is always in good shape. One of the nicer more unique parks in the area.
Nice park. Clean bathrooms. Hiking trails not well marked.
My sister's and I love to go to the dinner plays they have.
It is gorgeous here and there are extensive trails running throughout the park
This is a wonderful place to hike, and the cabins are so much fun: rustic but comfortable.
Very nice trails through a beautiful forest, pretty view of the rocks/cliff & river
Went to a dinner theater there. Food and entertainment were excellent. Scenery was beautiful also!
Fun park to visit. Nice wall cliffs. Much smaller then starved Rock, but less people.
This park is gorgeous and has a great restaurant the trails are the best for hiking in this area
Awesome place to take your family for a camping vacation. Very nice campsites, and lots of grass and trees.
Love this place. Clean comfortable. Cabins are great. Food is great!!!
Hiking here is so much fun. And I love driving through the water.
This is my favorite park to go to. Very beautiful natural features.
everything has been absolutely amazing so far the food is absolutely phenomenal the staff for absolutely disrespectful and decent and down-to-earth and very very very nice
We were there too early for restaurant. Both gift shop and restaurant opens June 14 2021
White pines State is a very beautiful park.I love how the creek flows over the road 2 times.
We have been going to the pines for years and it getting better all the time ok Goddesses
Love the trails and places to sit for lunch under shelter or out in the open. To rent a shelter it is very reasonable.
Great place! Well kept trails. Fun to explore.
Absolutely beautiful we had a wedding there so nice perfect day
This place is absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend it. 3 hour drive from Chicago. And the drive is breath taking!
It's ok. Good for some though. The road to an area of the park can be flooded though. But beautiful trails.
Great place to walk. Very good food at restaurant. Nice little gift shop.
Awesome park!!! Been going there for years! Good hiking, camping, etc.
Always charming ambiance in historic lodge. Upgraded menu, generous portions, delicious food.
Hidden gem close to Chicago area. Great trails, a fantastic restaurant in state park!
It is a very nice place big forest preserve with a creek running, and hiking trails.
I love white pines because it is so beautiful and you can go on one hour hikes.
We enjoyed several beautiful days at the park. We stayed in a cabin and hiked the various trails.
Such a great park!
More relaxed, fewer crowds than Starved Rock State Park. Good trails and lodge.
Loved the sites for camping so awesome
A beautiful state park with plenty to do, such as camping, hiking and all around great fun.
Good food great show. Would be a 5 star show if they turned down the Hollywood harassment scandal and crude humor jokes.
Loved it. Lodge dinner was excellent. Hiking trails super.
So glad they are back open. Staff was wonderful. Food was good.
We have been camping here for years. Love the trails and the camp sites are a good size.
Beautiful place for a family get-together nice camping facilities nice shelters
Fantastic park. Great for camping and hiking
Been going there since 79 still beautiful views. Colors in the fall wow
Great place to go camping! I took one of my dogs, we had a great time.
Pleasant trails; not as crowded as Starved Rock and similar parks
Nice preserve to visit. Good hiking trails. Trout stocked during season.
The settings are lovely but the night time noises of hourly freight trains disturbed are camping experience greatly.
Varying trails that aren't difficult to navigate and a quaint restaurant onsite where you can have a meal or grab a quick snack.
Nice place to hike. Get there early before everyone else does
Great place to camp. I have camped here many times with the Boy Scouts.
Great park, food at the restaurant was very good
Great food at the restaurant. Try the bloody mary! Restaurant and cabins were built by the CCC, beautiful well built and historic!
Nice place. Very relaxing with family.. campground are clean.. nice staff members.
Very beautiful park with nice, family-friendly trails.
Great food and service . Rustic atmosphere is very charming.
Park is lacking activities, does have a nice restaurant with good food. Prices are high
Beautiful scenery, well maintained. Lovely restaurant and gift shop.
Wish the lodge and restaurants was open bit closed due to covid. Great park though
Beautiful Forrest area with a lot of really old huge trees. Plenty of hiking paths to walk on and lots of camping sites.
Nice park, kids love it too, nice space to run thete energy out.
Beautiful place to visit and so many great hiking trails.
A great State Forest for a great hike, an afternoon hike, or even for camping out! I recommend it wholeheartedly
Good place for hiking
nice park with trails n a small river for fishing... caught some trout
Great park. Spent a winter's night in a log cabin. Great time!
Gorgeous park with excellent Class B campgrounds. We loved it.
We spent our 25th anniversary there in the honeymoon cottage. Great place.
Something for everyone, great trails, lodging, restaurant, fishing, etc. etc.
We loved our time at the park, beautiful!!
Nice trails. One best state parks in Illinois
Love white pines. Great quick getaway from the city.
A lot of mosquitos and will recommend using the bigger bath rooms but the park it olay
Had lunch there. The pot pie is outstanding.
Its a beautiful place to go and hike and take stunning photos
Great place for Sunday breakfast brunch in addition there's dinner theaters and other other items
Our favorite place for fish on Fridays and brunch on Sundays. Great wait staff.
One of the best brunches I've eaten. Staff was very nice.
Sleepy hollow trail was awesome. Also suggest dinning at the restaurant.
Peaceful.
A lovely park not too far from Chicago. The resort is amazing too.
Love the peaceful place. Good food, good service, year round entertainment.
