I did a private event with Maxon shooters and it was an amazing time! The staff was so friendly Jeff and Ivan were the best instructors. They stayed with us the whole time giving us pointers and lessons and honestly I’ve never had a better shooting experience. I highly recommend booking with them and doing a private event. We were able to shoot multiple types of firearms and got plenty of individual shooting time. I will definitely be going back.

Very very nice place for everything what related to safe and proper way to learn and use firearms. Regardless if you have an experience or just a beginner in that world you have to come here. Been a while since I have properly handled a gun. Signed up for private instruction and met Ivan who was awesome! Ivan walked me through the basics and help me become more knowledgeable and self aware while I am shooting. After 15 minutes of quick drills my sight alignment, handling and groups were greatly improved. Also special shout out to Steve and Mike who were wonderful to meet and talk to about the different handguns while checking out the store! Super warm and welcoming. Overall an excellent experience.

If you ever dreamed of the perfect gun utopia then this place is it!. I am new to Maxon Shooters. Whomever envisioned and designed this place is a flaming genius who knows the heart of this business. Curb appeal, excellent. Clean fresh businesslike look. Walk in the door and its, hmm close to entering our favorite Disney Cruise ship, Magic. The concrete floor you feel your walking literally on clouds. How did they do that? A fit and proper person greets you for authorization and entry approval. You walk on down the grand isle, Classrooms to to the left and Viewing windows of active gun range shooters to the right. Further down is an awesome design siting area to the left and bathroom entries to the right. Being a borderline germaphobe, I always check out the bathrooms. You can really get a sense of an establishment's overall fitness and management this way. Has always proved correct for me. They were beautiful. Sparkle clean with a wonderful aroma. End of the grand isle you move right into the Store. Oh my goodness. Weapons everywhere. Most makes and models that fit any shooters desires. If not, Maxon can order for you. The left side its glass counter tops and wall displays. A high tech world class gunsmithing facility at the end with a gunsmith to match. My R1 1911 sights were changed there to my satisfaction. No damage scratches to the weapon. Maxon's Dan Meyers sold me on a night sight system by Meprolight. Perfect install and tested. Who test fires new sight installations? Dan does. More on Dan later. To the right a super display of anything you need for shooting. Glasses, cases et'al. The ranges are incredible. Super clean with a insanely clean air ventilation system and wonderfully lit ranges. Light in the correct place. To top it all off is the target system. All computer controlled. A touch of class display to the left of your booth wall. Here you can see your target and view each shot. Also a selection for target desired lengths. The only thing I would like to see here would be an option to record the shooting session per target. For a fee of course, a file upload to your phone or website. Hey, the NFL etc. does this to review players moves, mistakes and how to correct. Same principle here for the shooter. It would really assist a customer attending a training class with range time. Targets. Maxon has a really wonderful assortment of targets to choose from. Price wise they destroy the competition. I have never met a Maxon staff member that I did not like. The folks are wonderful, smart dressed, engaging and ultra knowledgeable. Maxon's corporate mantra has to be customer engagement from the time he/she enters until they depart. I always feel welcomed like family. Most ranges I have frequented are cold shouldered with a "just pay for services" attitude. Facility wise they are dumps compared to Maxon Shooters. Their environment typifies their attitudes. What really is the icing on the cake is the Maxon staff. They are all genuine, knowledgeable, and willing to go the mile for customer support. Dan Meyers aforementioned is one such staff member. Dan took me under his wing on my first visit. A quick tour . Mentored me on the proper shooting glasses as I need sight correction for distances. Dan found me a out of the park pair that addresses that. So we ordered them. He is also credited with my R1 1911 sight upgrade. Thank you Dan. You are my go-to Maxon person. Sort of like my private client banker. I like and almost demand personal relationships. Thank you for reading this rather lengthy script. I am passionate about product and services that are way above the bar such as Maxon Shooters. Today, we seem bent on vilifying or taking for granted good products or services with never a mention of gratification or financial support. I do hope this review for the latter does just that. God Bless America and Protect our beloved 2nd Amendment.

I took the 5 hour pistol training 1. We got there little late at 10:07 because we got lost but we thought it would be fine thinking the door opens at 10am, so they might settle down for a bit but no! They started right away😅 So please get there on time maybe even before the door opens! Don't bee late!! Instructor Shawn was very informative, funny and knowledgeable. I learned so much about not only the technicality of pistols but also a precautious safety rules for house hold with kids, etc. mMy husband took a course at a different place like month ago and he learned a lot more in this course. 5 hour sounds long but the time really flew by! Last hour was for shooting. We used 2 revolvers using .22 and .38 ammunition, and three hand guns. First 9mm, then .40 and .45 with 1911(I think?). I wish they told me which gun was which because this would’ve been great way to tell which gun feels the best for the future purchase. Or I should’ve taken the photos. I might be saying the wrong names and wrong ways here. We are going back for pistol training 2 (3 hour) for next Sunday. This course definitely made me think of the phrase “knowledge is power” and made me feel empowered learning about the pistols. Can’t wait for the next class!!

Jonathon, Ivan, Aubry, & Jasmine (pretty much the whole place) are the best ever!! The minute I walked in I felt so comfortable, important and excited to be a customer of Maxons. It was my first time buying & shooting and I will DEFINITELY make this place my ONLY go to!! I live 40-45 minutes away and I do not mind the trip for this kind of A+ service. THANK YOU!!

I took a 16 hour class in this location with instructor Jon N. First I was horrified of a 16 hours classes but I kid you not (time flew by). Jon was so knowledgeable, fun and a spit fire that time went by fast. He put you at easy so I pass on my first attempt UHU! Highly recommend if you are in need of some classes. In addition, been a woman I love when I can see more women around specially on a range and there are plenty of them throughout the whole place. Clean, organized, respectful. Great place. Five stars

You can find at the shop a large variety of handguns and rifles and very knowledgeable sales associates. I was lucky to find exactly what I was looking for. Many big thanks to Kevin Burk for helping me buy the Sig M17 from the last year and the recent M400, I love them both! From a Sig fan to another, thanks for all the explanations and guidance you gave me! What better gift could I receive for my birthday than instructor Ivan Rodriguez showing me how to properly hold a rifle in my arms? All my questions were answered with a great deal of patience and a lot of information. Now I can have a decent grouping and I know how to clean and lube my rifle! Thanks a lot Ivan for your service, past and present! I can’t wait to go further and continue the drills, it’s a lot of fun learning from you! The very first thing you notice when you enter in Maxon Range is the charming presence of Jasmin. Thank you very much Jasmin for all your help, both in person and on the phone. I guess you’ll be seeing me constantly coming to the range, unless bullets will become more expensive than gold, lol!

This place is great! I was helped by a very nice guy named Johnny. It was my daughter first time using the range and she was a bit nervous. He gave her pointers and went out of his way to make her comfortable. He also informed us he teaches the conceal carry class at this location. I will be signing up as well as recommending all my family and friends. Thanks again this was a great Daddy daughter experience for us both!!

It was my first time shooting, and Goode made the experience unforgettable! I’ve reserved a private instruction with a few options with it, and it was worth every penny (literally, since he even offered me to send some of the empty casings to me). During the actual shooting session, Goode gave me several great advice to improve my shooting mag after mag. Overall, the place was clean, safe, and employees were supportive. Special thanks to David for lending his own 1911 to me and Goode for being the best instructor.

Been there numerous times with family and recently brought a group of friends. I have encountered many of the warm and welcoming staff who have been very helpful to me and my brother answering all our questions. Great place for experienced shooters and beginners like me. The staff keeps the range safe by monitoring you but not making you feel over constrained. I'm very pro 2A and it's great to show my friends with little gun experience what we are missing when these laws try to strip us of basic rights. Very nice and friendly place. I had gone to another Gun Range the same day and the previous gun place was too over priced and wasn't focused on the customer at all. Maxon Shooter's were informative when I called them over the phone and I was able to visit their Range as soon as I could arrive at the location. Everyone was very helpful, it was my first time actually shooting my guns and I felt reassured by the staff and their welcoming demeanor. I'm from the city and by far this Range had better service than any other Gun Store/Range that the City of Chicago has. I will be coming back to this location for Range use for sure. I just did a 1:1 lesson with Bob (Doc) and had a great time. I'm someone who didn't have much experience with firearms, and Doc gave some great instruction on the basics that prepared me for the range. His explanations and technique tips were spot on, which was not surprising considering the 25 years of police service he has. He was patient and made me feel extremely comfortable handling the pistol. I would definitely sign up for another lesson with Doc!

Jeff K. who was my class instructor had delivered a confidence to me that I immediately booked him for several private classes. Indicating to him what I wanted to learn which included simple things as shooting range etiquette as well as shooting posture stance, loading, etc.. he designed a shooting range itinerary to meet my inquiries within the private lessons. Maxon Shooter's is an amazing company that provides its customers with the utmost knowledge regarding firearms, the best customer service in purchasing these firearms, and overall is a great welcoming environment. There is one individual in particular that has made my experience at Maxon Shooter's nothing less than the best: Daniel G. Daniel handled numerous customers despite a lack of more hands due to some frequent employees being out, and with the Bill that will be passed in January this only added to his long list of people to go through. However, he kept me constantly informed and gave attention to me to ensure that I didn't feel as if I had to reach out to the employees constantly. Then when it came to my turn his professionalism along with his warm personality led to a great experience in picking up my firearms. He's knowledgeable in many different firearms, and he does his best to ensure that you're satisfied with your purchase. Just finished my level two pistol training class and I found Kevin, the instructor, to be knowledge and patient in particular, when fielding questions. The class was well paced and the information on point. I really like this facility and have not met a single person that wasn't professional and well skilled with everything relating to learning to shoot and getting a conceal and carry license. Definitely going to do some training and practice shooting on my own and I'm going to schedule a private instructor. If you're even considering getting a conceal and carry license or learning how to shoot or just getting your FOID card, there is no better place than Maxon. (Michele)

Recently took their basic AR course with Kevin. His knowledge, patience with noobie shooters and willingness to assist (He even helped zero the optics on the rifles of several of the shooters, including mine) helped make me a lot more confident in handling an AR pattern firearm. During the practice time on the range, Kevin even was able to diagnose an issue that was occurring. The next day, their gunsmith was able to determine the issue with why my rifle was not working optimally. He was able to get it up and running at no charge to me. While there are other shops if you want the best service from real world experts you cannot do better than Maxon.

Had a private lesson with Jeff K. and I have to say I learned much more in an hour than I ever expected. Have experience with rifle and shotgun shooting, but little handgun experience and Jeff tailored his lessons to my knowledge and comfort level. He went over the fundamentals and then dove right into more detailed training on shooting a pistol for accuracy under different circumstances. You can tell Jeff has a lot of experience being trained, using pistol, and training in handgun use. I still have much to learn, but Jeff got me off to a great start. I'll definitely be back for more sessions with him.

Wanted to acknowledge the great service offered by their gunsmith, Jon M. Exceptionally courteous, friendly, and went above and beyond most "regular" people. I've had sights installed through other competitors, and they would do their job well. The difference here is, he even went on to add lubricant to my firearm when all I went in for was an installation of new sights. That, to me shows he cares about customers and their purchases. Didn't ask for it; again, he went above and beyond with the install. It's the little things that matter. Plus, he was prompt. I'm a loyal customer, thanks to him.

Just completed Basic Pistol 1 course with instructor Kevin Burke, it was extremely informational and exactly what I needed as someone knew to the sport of shooting. We also got to shoot several different pistol models and calibers. A great way to determine which type of pistol you are comfortable with as I look to buy my first firearm. We had Shawn as our instructor and he was well informed and educated, funny, and very helpful. I trained at other places and I loved Maxon the best. After the course they let you try different calibers which is fun and exciting for first time shooters.

I just wanted to express how impressed I was with your new facility and plan to make Maxon my new range even though it is a longer drive than my current range. But a shooting range is only as good as the people who run it. People like your gunsmith Jonathan "J" Maldonado who assisted me this morning. When buying my first firearm from Maxon I felt a little uncomfortable at first. Then while picking out what I wanted to purchase it came to me that they don’t just sell to anyone that comes in. They take the time to observe the customers that they don’t know and the behavior of the customers asking about any firearms. They ask many proper questions to get a good idea and feel of the purchasing customer and run a background check on you themselves($10 charge on your purchase) but for a worthwhile reason. Being that I live only a mile away it made feel reassured that they would take that much time and care and it wasn’t just about making sales. When I went to pick up my purchase I felt completely comfortable as they treated me with great respect and the salesman remembered me even though I came in on a crazy busy weekend. This is a responsible firearm establishment during a time when responsible stores need to be the norm and I’m glad that I choose to get everything from them. I will update about the range when I go back this week to test my purchase (that was modern and very nice looking) andto make sure my everything is 100% perfect. I’m sure they would make sure I’m completely satisfied with no doubt. I will also update on the many classes I will be taking there over the next 9 months. You can never have enough knowledge when it comes to firearms. Thank you Maxon and Steve my salesman.

Attended the Basic Pistol Training 1 with my hubby. Our instructor was Shawn N.& our RSO was Kevin. The course was VERY informative; Shawn was awesome and had a great balance of “serious” and humorous , which made learning even better for us. He also took time to answer any of our questions. Although we were a bit nervous when on the gun range at the end, Shawn and Kevin were calming+patient with any questions or concerns, which made us more comfortable and even more excited to continue our firearm education/journey! I took the Basics Pistols 1 and 2. Both were informative stressing safety, great pointers, and range time is helpful to get used to the pistols, as well as take some fear off of handling them. A one stop shop for both beginners & advance, with helpful & friendly staff. For beginners, they offer very a comprehensive class. The Basic Pistol Training Level 1 class taught by Jeff, was not rushed & very informative. The instructor’s style, kept the students engaged, so the time went by fast. At the end of the class, we were given the opportunity to try out different caliber of guns, is really helpful when you’re planning to buy a one. After completing the class I was confident in handling a firearm safely & plan to take Level 2. Level 2 class was taught by Kevin. He was outstanding & not rushed. Offering a number great examples, I could relate to. CCL class was taught by Jon. The class was long, fast pace & full of useful information. Which made the time go by fast. He offered a number of real life examples of situations, that I can relate to, including his personal experiences. His extensive knowledge of when deadly force is and is not justified, & uses of real life examples, makes him a valuable instructors. My next step is to take the Trauma Care Basics.

I'm glad to leave a 5 star review for Steve, because he deserves it. I am a 74 yr. old retiree, who will return to shooting for leisure after 40+ years of not participating in the sport. Steve, much to his credit, listened to my reasons for wanting to assess my physical condition, (mainly my hand and finger strength/dexterity) before shooting. Invariably, younger people don't realize that older people have limitations which are neither voluntary nor fixable, that's just life. Steve patiently taught me how to efficiently and safely handle my 357 and clean my new SR22. I will definitely be returning!

Took the 3 hour refresher course and was VERY impressed. I expected just a dull and boring read through of the laws, but that was not the case. My instructor, Dan, was awesome! He went through the laws, but added stories and anecdotes to give the info more context and real world use. He engaged with the class and the time went by very quickly. I highly recommend this class from Maxon!

We had a work outing here for 13 people on a Thursday evening from 6:30pm-9:30pm and we had the best time! We were a mixed group of experienced and "never touched a gun" and the staff that set it all up for us were exceptionally patient, very prepared, and professional. Thanks Dan, Dave, Steve, and Chris! We felt safe and we had fun. We even had a small safety class before getting into the range area. The staff wanted to make sure we maximized our time shooting so they loaded our cartridges, cleaned the area of the casings, and put new targets up for us. So awesome! We'll be back. The Instructor, Jeff, had comprehensive knowledge and experience with Firearms. Information was provided in an organized way that made it understandable and interesting using real life scenarios to demonstrate a point. Given that I have never shot anything before, I really appreciated being able to hold and look at unloaded firearms in the class before we ever set foot on the range to shoot. When we did start target practice, although I was nervous, I really felt like I was in good hands and had been given excellent instruction before ever touching a loaded gun. This is the place to go regardless if you are a beginner or an experienced shooter. The only thing I wish had been different is they did not have any coffee in the building...lol... That needs to be changed.

Being a noob I researched where to begin my education in firearms. Maxon was rated high so I decided to start there. My husband and I took the Basic Pistol 1 and 2 classes with Kevin B. and it was phenomenal. He was funny and informative yet serious when it came to safety. He was patient and accepted all questions without making anyone feel stupid. We then took a private lesson with Jeff K. to find the right firearm to purchase and get help with our sighting. Jeff is a pro. His years of experience helped us greatly. He was patient, easy going and gave great pointers. We intend on taking more private lessons with him as we work up to the final CCL 8 hours. As a person of color I can attest that Maxon treats everyone fairly. I have seen some of the reviews claiming that the staff is biased but I did not feel that way at all in my visits to the facility. In fact, I felt 100% comfortable as a noob, a woman and being brown! They have a diverse and knowledgeable staff. The facility is clean and impressive. I highly recommend Maxon for noobs and the experienced alike.

My experience going here has been nothing but great. Just yesterday I showed up like a hot mess: Over 30 minutes late for a reservation, had lost my keys, everything in my bag was disorganized like I had evacuated a fire. "Listen, [my name], trust me, we all have those days once in a while. It's okay, take your time, and don't worry—we'll take care of you," said David. This was near closing time on a weekend. Every single person there is highly experienced, informed, patient, respectful, and incredibly kind. I've been to a few other ranges and the experience has not been comfortable like it is at Maxon. Shout out to David, Jorman, Alex, Meng, Bob, and DAN MAN. Whether you're new or a pro like the above names, I highly recommend checking this place out.

I was looking for a particular firearm and I began searching multiple firearm dealers on the internet. It took a few days and then I saw the firearm I was looking for at the Maxon Shooter's Supplies website located in Des Plaines, IL. I still had some questions though because I wanted my firearm to have some specific specs. I then sent an email to Maxon. Jazmin, from Maxon, promptly answered my email the next day and answered most of my questions. I still had further questions, however, so I went on the Maxon website which had a live chat feature. Coincidentally, I made contact with Jazmin again. Jazmin was able to answer all my questions and even left her station to verify that the firearm had indeed the specs I wanted. She showed me a link on the chat that took me directly to observe the firearm I wanted to purchase. Ultimately, I purchased that same firearm on that day. I will have to travel to Des Plaines to pick up my firearm. I don't know how the other employees will be, but if they are like Jazmin then I'll have a pleasant experience. I give a 5 star to the Maxon Website, for the ease of navigation and overall optics, and to the customer service of Jazmin. Jazmin was very cordial, helpful, professional and satisfying to deal with. It makes for a pleasant shopping experience when your dealing with good people.

Great range and store to go to. Range controls are simple to use and also shows your range time as well. It's clean and kept up and the air filters out so it's not smoggy. The workers are great too. Very knowledgeable on firearms. I wanted to see if the gunsmith was in to take a look at my firearm since it was shooting to the left. The smith wasn't tho since it was 8pm on a Saturday night. The staff still decided to take a look and quickly noticed that my sights weren't lined up properly. They told me how to fix it and even offered to do it quickly for me. Jason took my firearm and had the sights all lined up now. They didn't charge me at all since it was a quick fix. This is why I love going here. I know the range is good and I know if I ever have any questions or need help, the staff is there to help

First off, I'm a big proponent of training. Getting a clear picture of what to expect from someone who has already gone the gambit cannot be overstated enough. It is well worth your time. I called to get some general information as I saw this shop listed on my USCCA membership as a close enough spot with very nice amenities. Since I was in the market to make a purchase, I figured it would be nice to go over my options with a veteran instructor. Needless to say, my expectations were blown out of the water. Jeff K. is a skilled professional and I got more than my money's worth out my training. My skills are that much more improved and I look forward to my continuing education. You should own up to the responsibility of having a firearm, and I can see no better way of doing that other than to get the training you need to get to that next level. Sure there is a lot of free content out there, but you must put it into practice. This country deserves that much. See you on the range.

I went to Maxon for my first range experience & private instruction. Everything once I walked in the front door was nice and well lit and clean. My instructor was Chase O., and he couldn't of been more helpful to someone that had never fired a handgun before. After the classroom learning we went to the range where he offered more helpful advice (widen stance, lean forward) when he saw it was needed. I never felt nervous or overwhelmed with his teaching style (although based on his reaction to how well I did, I kinda don't think he fully believes me when I said I've never fired a gun before, or he knows how to make a rookie feel proud; regardless I'll take the compliment). By the end of 50 rounds I was firing with confidence. Definitely will be going back sooner rather than later.

I’ve been coming here regularly since 2018 and the staff have always been great and Just recently this year I started shooting more with different platforms. Last night I completed the rifle 1 class and had a good time. The class was taught well and Kevin is a knowledgeable instructor with a lot of passion for the AR platform. I took Basic Pistol 1 with Jeff K as my instructor. The class provided an excellent and comprehensive understanding of the nature of hand guns and how to responsibly own, handle, and operate them. Anyone who is new to firearms and wants to gain a solid knowledge base about pistols and revolvers would do well to enroll in this course, take notes, and ask plenty of questions, especially with Jeff as your instructor! The live fire exercise was a spectacular way to top it all off - all the while making sure everyone was safe! Definitely recommend it.

The facility was great as it was clean, organized and inviting with friendly employees. My instructor was knowledgeable and efficient. This is my first time seriously considering the purchase and use of a firearm for home defense. The 5-hour Level I class was necessary and sufficient as a primer in understanding the elementary technical aspect for an informed purchase and, grasping fundamental legal dynamics of owning and using a firearm for self-defense. They delivered what they promised and I am satisfied, therefore I am considering signing up for the 3-hour Level II, Basic Pistol Training, as soon as I gain some proficiency. My recommendation is that they would add insurance options for home defense and for concealed carry, because I believe that home defense necessarily comes in two stages: (1) the defense action against an imminent, inevitable and lethal threat against a person, and (2) the legal justification for the use of deadly force in courts of law, against civil and criminal implications.

He was immensely patient as I threw him every question in the book, and asked him to take out the same darn pistols a dozen times. Great instructor, very friendly staff. A great place to learn how to handle a handgun. I single out especially Matt, who was my instructor at Maxon. Since I am a novice, his patience and experience were greatly appreciated. He was very open to questions, thoughtful in his replies and was always helpful. I look forward to continuing with lessons at Maxon as well as private instruction with Matt. A very nice atmosphere for customers, especially first-time customers. I then took the Pistol I course with Kevin Burk. Kevin is also an earnest and very knowledgeable instructor. I followed that with Pistol II with Shaun Naqvi as our instructor. Shaun explained what was needed in great detail and was very patient with us novices. Matt, Kevin and Shaun are really top-notch firearms experts, great instructors and very competent in everything relating to handguns. Nothing was rushed; they repeated endlessly the requirements for gun safety, and we knew we were in sure hands. I highly recommend all three instructors. I have finally taken the CCL eight-hour course with Jon Nothegger. He is a thorough pro, a very good instructor and, by his behavior, you might call him a role model for many. Jon instructed us almost non-stop for eight hours (except for a couple breaks and lunch) and never faltered. He has instructed the course so many times, he said, that he had the written material memorized. All I can say is that Jon Nothegger is nonpareil when it comes to teaching this course. I really couldn't imagine a better teacher for this vital course. I would highly recommend taking the CCL course with him. He is the best with this stuff, including the very important legal aspects. A thorough pro at what he does, as I said. Matt ushered me in to the first-time shooting experience at the range to a new revolver and a new semi-automatic handgun. I can't praise him highly enough. An absolutely great and 100% friendly instructor, very knowledgeable. Top-notch.

I enjoyed taking the CCL course with Jon. Packing in 16 hours into 2 days looks boring and long on paper. But Jon’s personality kept me awake and engaged. He has a lot of knowledge and experiences that relate and flow along with the program. He shows and explains the pros and cons of becoming a CCL carrier. If you can select your class, I’d recommend picking one with Jon as the instructor.

I recently took both basic pistol 1 and 2 at Maxon Shooters. I had 2 great instructors, but as a newbie at firearms I wanted some more in-depth instruction. I followed up the basic pistol classes with a private lesson with Jeff K, who was one of my instructors for basic pistol. Jeff has years of experience in law enforcement and has accumulated all the knowledge which comes with that experience. The most important thing though, is that he does a fantastic job as an instructor in conveying that knowledge to his students. My goal is to become very proficient at safely handling and accurately firing a firearm, and I believe Jeff is the instructor who is going to get me there. I have already signed up for additional lessons with him.

However, from the beginning, Chase made me feel at ease and, for lack of better wording, not foolish. He read my notes from when I made the training appointment originally. Jon did a great job on 3/12/2022. Very knowledgeable and knew how to manage the tone of conversation between fun and life or death. I didn’t realize how many topics would be covered over the 16 hours regarding personal safety, home defense and the legality surrounding conceal carry. I was very impressed with the Basic Pistol Training Class taught by Jeff Klug at Maxon and learned a tremendous amount. I had never fired a pistol in my life. Jeff instructed us on the safe way to handle revolvers and semi-automatics. He showed us how to load different pistols, and then we shot 5 different pistols at their range for the second part of the class. I feel much more comfortable and knowledgeable about handguns. I would encourage this class for anyone who wants to learn more about handguns, whether you intend to buy one or not.

I recently went to Maxon based on the reviews I’d seen and my visit was fantastic. I came in with a little bit of experience but haven’t been in practice as of late. The shop is inviting and modern and makes it feel less like a gun store and more like an experience. Buying your first gun is definitely intimidating but working with Kevin B and Ivan R made it fun and informational. I had some specific models in mind but Kevin walked me through the entire stock and all of the options, letting me handle a few models from each manufacturer which was great to help me better understand what would be best for me. Then I visited the range to try out all of the options I had handled and after putting the options through the gauntlet I had figured out what I was getting that day (which was different from the model I had in mind when I walked in). Both Kevin and Ivan were a part of my sales process and they helped me understand all of the options and needs of buying my first pistol (cleaning kit, extra mags, light, safe, etc). It was an all around great experience and I'll definitely be back to train more at the range and explore the classes available.

Overall experience was ok enough. First time purchasing a firearm and wasn’t offered even a slight discount on ammo. Some staff were nice while others seemed like I was bothering them. Noticed that I was given much less courtesy than the customer before me (probably because I look much younger). Purchasing online was great but the overall experience took a dip when I arrived at the shop.

All Maxon staff are fantastic, but I want to compliment two in particular: Steve and Jazmin. For the past few months, I've had a failure-to-feed issue with my new Henry lever action rifle. Yesterday, I was shooting it at Maxon and, sure enough, it jammed with some ammo from Winchester. Steve Hoffman (Maxon instructor and fellow lever gun enthusiast) came right over to my lane and within a few minutes cleared my malfunction and diagnosed the real problem: the Winchester rounds were too long! Steve took his time to explain the problem to me and even got out a precise measuring tool to verify the length of the rest of the rounds in the box, just to make sure. Without Steve's help, I would be sending my rifle back to Henry a third, fruitless time. Thanks, Steve! Jazmin usually works the front desk when I come in every few weeks to shoot at the range. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more authentically pleasant member of staff at any business (especially at a gun range where people tend to be sort of intense). No matter how busy she is, she always makes a point to say hi and ask how everything went (or, where my range buddy is). Thanks for being so great, Jazmin.

The private instruction I received was very comprehensive and understandable. My personal shooting style was critiqued with a view to more effective shooting, including stance, grip, breath control, smoothness, and trigger manipulation. My instructor focused on aspects of the foregoing elements with suggestions and modifications to a more efficient and accurate firearm operation. By the end of the session I not only felt more effective, but my actual shooting was much more accurate. I will be availing myself of further instructions. My instructor Jeff Klug was genuinely concerned with my improvement as a shooter and again I will be taking further instruction with him.

Our instructor Daniel Morowitz was awesome he actually explained everything and not just skim through the material like I've heard other instructors do at different places.I loved that I left with the feeling I got what I paid for. They had set up the range while we were in the classroom. If anyone needed help they were there to assist us. We hand a wide selection of hand guns and rifles. I took the 8 hour conceal and carry class w/ Jon yesterday and honestly it was the most informative class I've taken to date. That 8 hours is a beast, but Jon was engaging, funny, and answered every single question we had. Seriously, EVERY question and made up scenario we could come up with he answered as best he could, while always encouraging us to READ the laws. I learned a lot in this class and Jon really drove home the point of avoiding conflict all together, continued education/training as well as defensive trainging. I highly recommend this course and Maxon in general. I've had a great experience every time I've come here (4 classes and countless range visits). Few notes: Be on time (they're really not kidding when they say this), have all your paperwork and be prepared to shoot at the start of the class.

I took the basic pistol training class there. Even though I thought I knew a lot about guns this class made me realize how little I really knew. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who intends to buy a gun. I think it should be mandatory before you buy a gun. Our instructor was excellent. He was very patient and answered all our questions. I would even recommend this class to someone who is anti-gun. It would make their arguments better if they knew what they were talking about.

I recently took the Basic Pistol 1 class and the instructor, Shawn, was awesome. It was a great refresher course for me and it would be a perfect course for people new to firearms. Kevin Burk, our instructor was knowledgeable and professional. Kevin was very, very, serious about safety and he was more than willing to repeat verbally and hands on any and all safety aspects of handling firearms. Kevin suggested everyone in the class repeat the hands on proper safety check when one student asked because she was a bit nervous and wanted to guarantee she had the procedure down correctly. I’m sure we all felt better redoing the safety procedure. P.S. Nate, the range assistant that helped the class during the hands on live fire aspect of the class was very patient and encouraging. Nate stressing safety while assisting the students. Both Nate and Kevin giving positive feedback and encouragement when they witnessed the students practicing what was learned in class and demonstrating that knowledge with properly placed target shots. I'll give a little background, so you'll know where I'm coming from and if it's relevant to you. I've taken a CCL initially over 5 years ago, which required shooting a firearm at the range. I let that license lapse. Then I took it again through another instructor, but this instructor was better. He got me very interested in obtaining a firearm. So, after that CCL instruction, I went to Maxon's to try out some rentals to make a decision. Well, it turned out I couldn't use the range unless I had a "buddy" or after a private lesson. Since, it was a spur of the moment thing, I couldn't think of anyone to call when I went. So, I decided to sign up for a private lesson. Prior to the lesson, I went with a friend to try out various firearms. I shot several at around 20-feet, and for the most part, my target paper looked like a splatter graph - holes were all over the place! I admit to scouring the internet, particularly YouTube, to learn as much as I could on my own. After viewing several videos, I felt I "knew" a sufficient amount, but needed some fine tuning. Tbh, I wasn't thinking much of the private lesson going in. I'm glad I was wrong. Chase did a great job going over the fundamentals of holding a firearm, which were still fresh in my mind from the CCL class that I had taken 3 weeks prior. What for me stood out, was his explanation of the way to hold the firearm. There's a lot of content on the internet that explains various "philosophies" of holding a firearm, but, there's nothing like having a personal trainer by you explaining things. With Chase's explanation and guidance, I went from a splatter graph to mostly tight groupings. Mind you, it started from 12-feet and went up to 14-feet. Yes, there's a difference of 6-feet from where I started, but with the two things he had me focus on, my shooting had markedly improved. He took the time to field my questions, and explained what was happening. Shooting is definitely a skill that can be acquired, and I can definitely say that just a few tips from personal training, such as what I had with Chase, will dramatically bring out what you already have within you. That's what good instruction does, and Chase is an excellent trainer!

This review is well overdue and my apologies to Jon Nothegger for taking so long. I took my CCW renewal course with Jon in March and had an excellent experience. The beginning of class was thrown off by a couple of people who had failed to schedule the right class and were refusing to leave. Jon handled the situation like a true professional despite the disrespect shown to him by these belligerent individuals. Once class began Jon went full B-52 and we were served a barrage of knowledge bombs. Jon went above and beyond the call of curriculum for the benefit of the class and it is apparent he is passionate about teaching and doing what he can to improve the mindsets of people who carry. I especially appreciated Jon’s sobering delivery of the reality of defensive firearm use and the importance of self defense insurance. If you need a firearms instructor, auctioneer and elocutionist look no further because Jon is good to go. Thanks to Maxon as well. I have been patronizing for almost 10 years and have nothing but good things to say about the facility and staff. I think overall there has been a lot of growth and you guys are hitting a new stride. I just returned from my first visit to MAXON. I was completely impressed. Being a relatively new shooter, i've been visiting more than several gun ranges that border Chicago/Cook County. I took a one-on-one class (pre-conceal carry) and bought retail merchandise at the store (2 magazines and my first range bag). The overall look of the establishment is top-notch. Clean and modern. The indoor range was well-maintained and had great stall hardware and dividers (loved the target hangers- the little things do count). Retail pricing/ammo was quite competitive (and less cost than my previous days visit to another range). The retail store offered a great selection of a wide variety of retail goodies. Handgun and rifle availability seemed to be quite nice, with an impressive variety of ARs and Shotguns along with all the handgun manufacturers/models i was interested in. All-in-all an impressive retail variety. What i wanted to specifically note and comment on in this review was my one-on-one instructor, Chase Ori. I don't think i've ever had a better handgun instruction experience. Chase was concise and highly informative - just want i was looking for. His teaching style was engaging and encouraging. His advise on all my questions was spot-on, delivered with clarity and exuberance...something i do appreciate from someone i've entrusted as an expert in the subject matter. After todays visit to MAXON, and Chase Ori's instruction, i've decided to return to entrust him (ill be asking for Chase again) with my subsequent classes (Conceal Carry, Defensive Shooting, AR and Shotgun classes) and further continuing education regarding firearms. Thank you Chase and the whole team at MAXON.

I needed to purchase my first handgun and Matt took great care of me. He didn't try to upsell me or make me feel inexperienced. When I came back to pick up my gun, Steve helped me find ammo and a holster. It had been a while since my CCL class, so I also scheduled a private session with Jeff K and it was exactly what I needed. He tailored the session to what I wanted to go over. Plus, Maxon's facility is NICE. Seriously, you walk in and it just feels legit (and it's super clean). Honestly, I wish I'd heard about Maxon sooner.
