Reviews of Maggie Daley Park Ice Skating Ribbon
Naomi Easley
I absolutely love coming here to ice skate! The main reasons are:
1. It is a track/loop, not a typical rink
2. It slopes up and down slightly so you can pick up a little speed without moving your feet.
3. It is free Monday-Thursday for those with their own skates, Friday- Sunday it is $5
4. The backdrop at night with the lights and the skyline is gorgeous!
This was my first time back since COVID so some things changed, like you can book/ reserve your time in advance. The skate rental is outside in a container right next to the track instead of inside.
I would recommend reserving your time online since you are guaranteed a spot and it is $2 cheaper if you need skates. They tend to sell out on weekends and Friday nights.
They have lockers inside that you can rent for $3/$5 for 3 hours at a time, otherwise you need to figure out where you are going to put your shoes and other items.
You can rent penguin ice skating helpers that you hold on to as you go around the loop. They come in child and adult sizes.

This is a beautiful rink within the park with a very cool rock wall in the middle. I would not recommend this place if you are new to ice skating. It gets really busy and cramped and you need to be able to keep pace. There is a rail, but it not super tall.
The park recommend for us to be there 45 minutes early, and we did. However, we ended up sitting around for 30 minutes as there was no one at the check-in booth. 30 minutes early is plenty of time.
You can get skate rentals, locker rentals, and guide rentals for children at this location. If possible, bring your own skates as it is cheaper to get in the rink that way and you won't have to wear skates that don't fit correctly.
Here there is a cafe if you get hungry or thirsty, but it is higher priced. I spent $7 on two water bottles.
Bring water!

Definitely recommend. I learned that for weekend mid-day and evening times the tickets sell out the week before. The ribbon is fun to skate, went there at earliest time it opened on Sunday at 11. It was quite crowded within 30 minutes. Also the ice was all dented within those same 30 minutes, can't imagine how it would be the last 30 minutes of the reserved session (11-1). But they do close it every 2 hours to smooth it out. Definitely suggest getting at the earliest time during your reserved session. Overall it was fun though.

This place is great. Get your tickets online ahead of time and get there a few minutes early. There are a few places to pickup skates if you’re renting. If you need a locker, they’re available for $3 on the north side. Restrooms are also available there. It got a little busy about an hour in but overall was great.

Such a cool rink in the middle of the city! Love how it's a ribbon/trail instead of your traditional rink. You get a full view of the city too. We went on a weekday night which was nice because it's a small width, so having less people was much easier to skate in. I imagine it gets tight on the weekends (noticed those tickets sell out quickly too). They had little penguins for the kids to hold on to and there's a lot of railing available too. The tickets are for a full 2 hours, which is a really nice length of time. There's a cute little shop next to the rink selling hot coco, coffee, and some other snacks/drinks too.
Of note, most people just left their shoes by the benches. You can rent lockers if you need to store stuff. We parked in the Millennium parking garage which was waaaay cheaper if you bought the parking pass online.

What a fun place to skate!!! Maggie’s park is perfect for a night out with family and friends.
They give you a wrist band to enter before you take your ice skates. ⛸
If you’re worried about where to keep your belongings, they have $3 lockers with different sizes. It says that phones aren’t allowed during skating, but no one was really checking. I used mine without any problems.
They also have a rest area after you skate where you can enjoy some hot chocolate, cheese pretzels, and more! ☕️
See the pictures. 📷

Even if you are not ice skating, Maggie Daley Park is a park worth visiting when you are in Chicago! So close to the Millennium Park & the Cloud Gate, and also to Lake Michigan ☺️ I would certainly recommend it for early morning strolls or coffee walks with friends. I have seen families have a wonderful time too as they have playgrounds and other cool facilities on site!

I loved ice-skating here. The ribbon has 2 elevation chances making the laps interesting and exciting. Residents wih their own skates can skate free in the mornings and for a reduced price during the rest of the day. The hotdogs were not amazing but the skating was 10/10.
Morgan Nelson
Great spot for ice skating. I skated for about 90 minutes. There were groups of all ages enjoying the ice skating ribbon. There are some food and drink options.
CRISTOPHER MANUEL SANCHEZ RODRIGUEZ
Excellent place for skating. 2 hrs + skates included online. The only problem is the skates are little hard and start hurting your feet after 1 hr.
I can be more comfortable if I bring my own next time.
Syed Hadi
Was a lot of fun but definitely pricey sitting right at $20 dollars with skate rental and ticket. Make sure to signup in advance for the 2 hour slot of your choosing. The skates were in good condition but given the number of people the ice wasn’t in the best condition but had an overall amazing experience!

We went here on a misty MLK day in January from 2:30-4pm. It was fantastic. We rented skates and received entry to the ribbon for a total of $20 we pre-purchased online. We got a large locker for $5. The rental skates were a lot better than I expected. The rink wasn't too busy, I'm guessing because of the light rain. The ice ribbon was smaller than I thought. The ice was a little cut up from the skates but I prefer that to the super slick rinks because I'm not a stellar skater. It was a BEAUTIFUL location. Skyline and trees surrounded the rink. There is also a small cafe w coffee, hot cider and snacks.
David LaRocque
Totally unique skating experience, so much more interesting than skating in a circle!!
Definitely get there at the beginning of a session so you can get some smooth ice, because this is a very popular spot and the ice gets really rough as the 2-hour session goes on. Of course it lasts better when the temps are frigid, but that’s less pleasant for most people.
O B (OB)
Coming here became our annual tradition and it does not disappoint! Gorgeous view of downtown, the design of the ribbon itself, the ease of making a reservation and getting the skates are just a few things that make this place a favorite. The ticket gets you two hours of skating, which is plenty. It can get pretty crowded, especially at the beginning of each session, but by its end, there is some room to skate more comfortably without running into fellow skaters.
Stevie Sh
My favorite ice skating rink in the city!
You get the best views of Chicago at nighttime, and all at a convenient price.
If you’re coming in near the weekend or holidays , I recommend purchasing tickets online since that way you can guarantee your spot. Otherwise, there’s a high chance that they’ll be out of skates by the time you show up.
David Thomas
Great place to ice skate. If you have your own skates you can book time on the ribbon for free! The backdrop is great for photos and the staff is solid. Fun place to go with the family.
Lorrie Morris
Very fairly priced, they have skate rental as well. It's just like in the movies if you know how to skate! We had a great time falling all over the place and eachother making family memories! Can't beat it for the Chicago Christmas time experience with your family.
Sarah Morales
So much fun. Well organized. Great family activity
Laura Medrano
Great ribbon for skating! You can rent the skates. It has a comfortable place to rent a locker and leave your shoes... there is also a place to get coffee, hot chocolate and snacks
SEVEREN HENDERSON
Love this place. And they have added Sou h since the last time I was here.
Irina Hynes
The ice skating ribbon is really nice, the rental skates are fine, and the fellow skaters have a big range in abilities but all are enjoying themselves.
Bill Polacheck
The skating was good but the rental skates were terrible. They gave me a pair with no padding inside which dug into my ankles. When I brought them back they said all their remaining ones were in the same condition.
Daniël
This is a really thoughtfully designed and well-run place, especially with the pandemic situation going on. You can register / make a reservation for a window online. The ribbon is quite spacious and provides some great views of the city in the backdrop.
There’s a place to drop bags, and a food cart for refreshments.
Gernot Schirmbacher
Rather pricey but a nice experience. Too many people on skates for the first time, but you can't blame anyone but them...
Jennifer Obecunas
It's a really lovely space but the ice gets really chewed up pretty quickly otherwise I'd give it 5 stars.
ThatsWhatCheeseHead ! (ThatsWhatCheesehead)
Terrible music.
Why are you playing 50's rock at a Christmas-time Ice rink decorated all Christmas-y?
Plus it was so low you could barely hear it. Staff was very nice and accommodating.
Parked right outside the rink!
Karly H (Exploring the lakes!)
We loved the ice rink!! I live in Minneapolis and we don’t have one this cool. Also super cute to have a little food truck with beverages and snacks!!!
Carolyn Jarot
Perfect winter fun. If you have your own skates you get a discount.
Maria Fernanda Flores
A beautiful park to appreciate the architecture of Chicago
Omar Hansen
Super nice place with great views of the city! There was a long line for admissions (about two hours wait) but it wasn’t too bad and it was totally worth it!
Rental prices are affordable, and if you got your own ice skates then you don’t have to wait in line, you may just enter and skate.
Also you don’t need to have any experience skating to do it, there are fences on the sides for people to grab on.
Overall, highly recommended!
Thomas Cera
Beautiful place to skate with skyscrapers as a backdrop. Lockers are three dollars. Skate rentals available skating is free. Park at Millenium Garage or Lakeside garage. Easy walk from either.
Nancy
Loved this outdoor ice skating space in the middle of Chicago! To rent skates, the prices are very reasonable and the skates are in good condition. They smooth the ice every several hours. There are very slight inclines, so it can take a little getting used to. I would suggest coming a little early to avoid the lines. However, if you have your own skates, there's no admission fee! Highly recommend this fun activity!
Pedro Dominguez
I’m rating three stars because the wait time to skate is long and the price for a fast pass is ridiculous, $40! If you’re here for people watching, great views of downtown this place is for you. If you’re willing to wait in line or spend close to fifty bucks for a fast pass to have a great time ice skating this is your cup of tea.
Chadwick R
If it's winter in Chicago, you gotta make sure to stop and skate the ribbon. It's a great experience no matter the weather! The staff was friendly and helpful. The ice was freshly surfaced and made for a perfect time skating. They give you about an hour and a half which was plenty of time.
İpek Er
I went on a scooter for the first time in my life. If you have your scooter (bring helmet too) you can ride it all day long or rent one with helmet (safety gear) for half an hour. It is a pleasant "road". At winter they switch to ice skating which is fabulous. The facility has a drinking fountain, restrooms and you can rent a locker for 2 dollars. Maggie Daley is a gem in downtown!
Tera McBlaine
This place is great! Manage your expectations - it can be crowded and you will see every rule broken but .....it your are reasonable and respectful, you can have a great time. The staff here are <gasp> really nice and helpful which is a refreshing change from many of the other park facilities nearby. Go skate and if you value your time, you have the option to pay to skip the line. The money goes to the park anyways.... You will still have speed demon teen hockey players zipping past you but mostly they have the control to keep it safe. The only thing missing here is music.
JuggaloSupreme
The ice was in terrible shape both days we went. The ice was not resurfaced properly, & it severely affected our ability to enjoy skating.
Danielle Sydnor
So much fun! Make sure to book your reservation online before going. There are a few 2 hour skating sessions during the opening hours. So make sure to book ahead of time. There is a place to sit and take a break. You can also get hot drinks from the stand. The prices are about $22 for skating. I really enjoy this skating rink space and ribbon design. I would definitely go back!!!
Nancy Stickler
I went on a Wednesday evening with my daughter. We brought our skates so only had to invest $2 for the locker. It was not crowded at all; beautiful weather; beautiful setting; employees were very pleasant. The only negative is they close for an hour to run the Zamboni, so it’s not worth waiting around to go back on. Other rinks have it done in 10, 15 minutes. We walked over to the Bean after for some caroling. It was really a perfect night.
Jen Kennedy
Loved this experience. Had never tried outdoor skating before. There are two parts of the ribbon that have a slight down slope so you can glide and pick up speed. Super fun. It's a different kind of cold 🥶 in Chicago for this southerner, but we got a good hour of skating in before calling it quits. Glad we bought our tickets online, scheduled our visit ahead of time, and arrived early. We were able to get right in, grab a locker, and skate before the ice got crowded (and for novice skaters this was very beneficial). Would love to go back one day.
Jimin Lee
excellent I wish my second son wasn't so tired. My first son had a blast! Watch out for the speedy people.
Alison Yuhas
Skating ribbon is the BEST. Suggest going on a Friday night, closer to dinner time. Ice gets very bumpy very quickly, and part is up a slight hill, but it’s seriously so much fun.
Bonus points for hot chocolate cafe halfway through!
Alex Limtiaco
The line for the skate rentals was incredibly long, which wouldn't be a problem if the service was better than apathetic mumbling. The skates were well worn and frayed on the edges making them hard to lace. They fit so poorly that, dispute my left foot touching on the back of my heel and the tip of my toe, the ankle was so loose that the blade was rocking back an fourth leaving me unable balance after the hour and a half of waiting. Although the ice is well lit, half the Christmas music speakers sounded like they were blown out, and despite poor rink conditions, you do get a beautiful view of the skyline which lends itself to great festive photo ops.
Brandon Neupert
My girlfriend and I loved this ice skating experience! We arrived at 8pm on a cold Friday night to find the rink pretty empty and entry was free. It was only 14 dollars to rent my skates and free for my girlfriend who brought her own. The staff was nice enough to hold her shoes with mine so we didn't have to worry about them. The rink itself is wide enough that we didn't feel rushed or in the way. We weren't the fastest skates but it was a beautiful and fun Friday night date.
Kyle Perfect
Cute date night in the city. Great views of the skyscrapers in a beautiful park. Very COVID-19 safe, everyone required to wear masks and pretty well distanced.
Jessica Qunell
Great place to skate. Love the system for getting skate rentals, locker space and the cafe had delicious hot chocolate!
Lace N
Awesome skating ribbon! Nice sitting area with bathrooms and a little cafe. Staff was nice and it was a great experience 😁 …
Zander Betterton
Super cool rink with city views. Consider reserving online since it gets really busy. Lots of fun for all ages.
Aleksandra Arnold
We come here several times a month to skate! Best thing is it's free!
Christy Kern
We had a fun time here. The skates are well-used so if you can bring your own, that's great. It was pretty rough in patches and it was busy when we were there, so be careful. Nonetheless, a great experience and something we'll probably go back to every year.
Emilio Camacho
Great experience, must reserve time on their website, you get 1.5 hours to skate, more than enough!
E K
Worth it, great views, but it gets too crowded on weekends.
Maxwell Schulz
Amazing place to skate. Generally free on weekdays if you have your own skates!
Reema Refaey-Surgit
Online reservation made it way easier to pick up the rental skates without waiting in line if you get there 10 minutes before the start of your skating time! Highly recommend it. We had a great experience.
Daniel Dinh
Beautiful park, nice long ribbon, and plenty of benches/tables to rest before getting back to the ice! If you own your own skates and reserve a spot online, it's (majority of the time) free! If not, only $5!
Alicia P
This was my first tIme here with my sisters & was super fun. The supervising skaters were also very nice and helpful. Overall we had a great time. Ready to go again
Progamer
It was alright, but my brother lost a finger after he slipped. Luckily he was able to put it back
Freshoutent
They said no dogs allowed and me and Ej didn’t test it, we follow directions
Zachary McFarland
Very fun ice skating, for a good price too! Staff was kind and considerate, and Covid guidelines were in place. Will be coming back next year!
Angelica Ortiz
I LOVE THIS ICE RINK! Took my friend here who was visiting from out the country and it was so much fun!
Manisha Barse
Wonderful 2hours of ice skating experience. Reservations needed. They also provide the skates. Locker rooms available to keep your stuff but they are paid. There is a small cafeteria as well.
Kelly French
So much fun! It’s a unique ice skating experience. Skates are first come, first serve, so if you have a popular shoe size, get there early or be prepared to wait a bit. Staff was very patient, friendly, and helpful.
Ajimon Thomas
It was my first time ice skating. I was mostly hanging on to the rails, but still the rental shoes left bruises on both my feet. It has been 2 weeks and it still hurts. Talking to my friends, they had the same experience too. So i suggest spending a bit more money, and buying your own shoes especially if you’re gonna be in Chi for a while. The lockers are overpriced as well.
Loved the experience though. Parked in Millenium Parking Garage using spothero and it is a less than 5 min walk to this place.
Joe Cannon
Great skating. Free if you bring your own skates. They run the zamboni every couple of hours. It gets pretty rough right behavior each re-icing session.
Rachel Pampel
Really different and well managed ice skating experience downtown.
Tomas Lopez-Betanzos
This is my favorite ice skating experience I've ever had. Unlike a typical rink that is generally oval shaped, it's a unique twisting path. So there are left turns AND right turns. In addition there are slight elevation changes. The fieldhouse has bathrooms, skate rental, and lockers. There's a food cart on the other side of the ribbon with snacks. Be sure to register far ahead of time for a busy time, because entry tickets can sell out. Besides, skating in a crowd can be awkward. There are no masking regulations since it's outdoors.
Arturo Navarrete
Very nice park with multiple playground for all ages located right next to Chicago skyline
C Scott
Very friendly and clean. Mrs Kate was very helpful. She has a very beautiful personality. Kudos.
Olivia Rundgren
Great place to go as a family or on a date! They have lockers for rent, the only thing you pay for is a skate rental, so if you have your own pair, you skate for free. It is well lit, staff is there to ensure safe skating and "penguins" can be rented to help kids skate.
Ben Jams
Really really enjoyed popping over here for a quick skate! Really scenic and I like skating the ribbon more than a rink.
2 things you should really watch out for: You need to make a reservation online and the rental skates are very stiff/hard and HURT A LOT. After 30 minutes of skating we had to stop because our ankles were literally getting raw and bleeding.
Paula Loaiza
Theres lots of things to do here so take a real brake to go hear like about 4 hour s to 7 hours great fun
Dan Rodgers
Buy tickets in advance for a 1.5 hour time slot. The ribbon is busy at the beginning of the skate but is cut in half after 45 minutes. Grab a snack early in the skate if you would like more open ice with less people.
Daniel Woodfill
Better than the usual open skate concept with very slight inclines and declines. Fun with kids in winter if they can skate. Challenging if your first rodeo. Skate rental was ok if they have your size. Skates were worn but they worked. Wear extra socks.
Micah Scroggins
this is an awesome park, but some of the slides were closed when we went there in december.
Matthew S
A great way to enjoy skating. You need to reserve your ice time ahead. On a weekday it might not be an issue but weekends and hodays the spaces can get reserved quickly, especially if you have your own skates.
Sharon Franklin
This a great place to visit. It is especially nice this time of year.
Susan Daunter
Winter fun, Chicago-style! An experience unlike traditional ice rinks. The bending path and slight incline/decline add a bit of challenge, but still okay for novices. Skate rentals, locker rentals, indoor restrooms, and plenty of benches all on-site. Nearby parking underneath at the Millenium Park Lakeside garage.
misti casinger
Had a wonderful experience with my family. I do with there were skating helpers for adults and possibly someone to make sure people don't camp out on the railings! Lol. I need those railing to help me and many people just sat on them.
Michael Mazzucca
I've enjoyed skating here with my boys since they were little. The views can't be beat and the staff are friendly. They take good care of the facilities too. Worth the drive. They sometimes host private skate nights so you should check before you head out.
K B
Skating was fun. Staff was courteous. They could use a separate skate return window or area.
Fun experience! Make your reservation or you probably won't get to skate.
Douglas Kaufman
One of the great places to skate! The ribbon goes up and down and winds a little to make it all interesting. Had to use rentals and they were nice and sharp, something you never know for sure.
Barb Chapman
Fun experience. Bring your own skates as the rental line is LONG. All experience levels there.
C C
Beautiful outdoors. Fun ribbon shaped rink.
Christine Vetter
The ribbon was lovely. Skate rental, laces were in rough shape, making hard to lace up. But the ribbon was well maintained and beautiful for skating. Great experience!
Michelle
Perfect for beginner much easier than skating in a sharp circles. They aperantly have lockers in the field house if you enter on the right side.
You can rent little penguins to help the kiddos.
Michael Nagel
Amazing and super fun! Wasn't too busy when we visited and was great to enjoy skating around! Will be back!
Xavier Hamilton
I've always wanted to go here for the past two to three years, I finally been able to take my two young kings to this spot and we all fell in love with the place, it's spread out which allows you to give your children an adventure and it's super clean, I highly recommend for any family living in the city or out of the city to come here now, very clean respectful families, and the children will definitely have a memory of a lifetime..
David Sanders
Very fun experience. I'm not an experience skater, beginner level. Was difficult for me but did make it around with it falling. Lots of first time skaters that were abusing to watch.
Rahul Panda
Love this outdoor skating rink as it's not a typical oval but a winding path with elevation changes. You can rent skates for a reasonable cost, or can bring your own and skate for free. It's not too crowded most of the time but peak times you may have to wait. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place if you have never skated before though as it can be a bit more challenging than a flat oval.
deon rhea
Took the family there for.some.ice skating
They practiced safety protocols. The ice rink was fun with a decent balance of skaters. And the view of the skyline made it even more so. Friendly polite staff. Had a great time.
Jeff Wain
The ribbon compared to the the smaller nearby rink is awesome. Lots of room, good views, and the cafe and multiple stops are handy. 👍👍👍 …
Mary Currie
I did not talk to one nice worker while skating here. Beautiful place to skate, but workers were pretty unhelpful and many sizes of skates were unavailable. Would expect better considering the payment of $25 per person to skate. Better leadership needed.
Sandhya -
Seemed like a great location. But have a look at status before going. Was temporarily closed.
Luperz
Beautiful park, long line if you don't have your own skates, but if you do skating is absolutely FREE!
Andi
Reviewing during COVID-19: Nothing gets you closer to a true Chicago Winter experience than ice skating at Maggie Daley ring. The views of the city and the atmosphere are like no other. Of course, due to its high demand, being able to ice skate here has become challenging as spots have to be purchased online and they get booked quickly. Actually, the cheaper bring-your-own skates is practically impossible to get so you are forced to buy the more expensive ticket that includes skates.
I would recommend following them on IG as they post the spots release dates in advanced.
It would be nice if the city would provide its residents with a few free ice-skating days even if online ticket were required.
Mani
Fun outdoor skate rink, great music, food and hot cocoa, indoor lockers.
Robert Kostecki
By far the coolest ice in the region (no pun intended). This is the only rink you will find that allows skaters to do more than just skate in circles. Unbelievable photo ops and this is a fantastic activity for locals or tourists. This rink is widely popular so expect long wait times if you’re going on the weekend!
Juan L
Great outdoor rollerskate venue in downtown Chicago. Free if you bring your own skates.
Ryan Kent
Wife and I had a blast. Came around 6:30 on a Thursday in early December after work. No line for skates and the ice wasn't too crowded. If you have your own skates you can just walk right onto the ice for free. Fun, great way to spend an evening. Employee told me that weekends and holidays are the most crowded.
brsugr58
This place is really awesome! Rollerblading, wall climbing, all kinds of reasonably priced family activities! $, parking$$$ml
John Drogos
Nice since it's a track it helps to be a little more socially distant than your standard oval. There are these weighted penguins you can rent for $10 to help with 1st time skaters which was a blessing with my young one. Can't beat the view and location
Algimantas Remeika
Most wonderful skating ribon. Chicago has means to make us excited.
Adithi Jagannadhan
The place is great for a date, but the shoes they provide are atrocious. No ankle support, so you'll be in pain if you're sensitive to leg pain.
HYUNKI SONG
Great place to go skating!
Marc-Louis Paprzyca
A wonderful place to skate and see the city.
This is so much more fun than going around in an oval on flat ice. The skating ribbon is winding and has undulations to make it slightly more challenging than a regular rink.
The views are amazing and the facilities are very well kept(they are very new). Be aware that the ice resurfacing (Zamboni) takes an hour so check the cleaning times before you go.
If you have your own skates you should bring them because rentals are $12. Lockers are only $1.
Douglas Campbell
Me and my family were looking for a fun outdoor experience and this place killed it! The employees (Josh and Bob) were so helpful and fantastic. They were awesome. The roller skating and scooters are fairly priced. Will definitely come back again!
Grace S
Love skating the ribbon! Bathrooms are clean, lockers are convenient and the ribbon is fun to skate. The only downsides - they let kids rip up the ice making chunks in it soon after the zamboni smooths it out making it hard to skate smoothly and without tripping in the chunks and uneven spots. The other issue is when really good and fast skaters come (especially hockey players), they zoom in and around people dangerously and make it hard for younger kids who go slow and those learning how to skate. I wonder how frequent they have injuries due to these super fast and reckless skaters knocking people over. I have seen injuries at least 3x I have been there. But on a lucky day with safe and respectful skaters it is great. Beautiful view of the city while skating too.
Jenn Presbitero
Very fun for a good price and well kept.
Brendan Gutenschwager
By far one of the coolest rinks I’ve ever had the pleasure of skating on. A winding ribbon in a park right in the heart of downtown Chicago, a great experience to be had for sure! Came on a beautiful New Years morning, place was modestly busy but still more than enough space along the ribbon for skaters to spread out & be comfortable. The best part is that it doesn’t cost a thing if you bring your own skates, an awesome perk & free activity for anyone with skates that wants to come by!
Geoff Gass
Great spot to skate. Not a rink, it's a ribbon with multiple curves and hills. Great views of the city and park. It can get very busy. It's free to skate. Skate rentals available on site. Lockers are *way* too small. We could barely get two pairs of shoes into one.
McKenzie Sweno
Nice place to skate. The skate rentals were a little hectic and the skates I got were a little damaged and made it hard to skate, but I had a pretty good time even as someone who does not really know how to skate. There are quite a few places to sit down if you get tired, and the railings are well placed. Overall, a good place to go in the winter for ice skating.
Lilly Lueck
We waited in line for about an hour before we got to the skate rental area. Despite the wait, the staff and the rental process was efficient. Quickly donned our skates and anxiously wobbled towards the ice... We haven't done this in years! Locked arms with each other as if it would prevent us from falling and nervously moved forward. We were so slow! Haha awesome experience and completely worth the wait. Best winter date!
Brittany Crowder
Unique experience and something fun to do in the winter. Not a regular ice rink as you can see in the pictures. They do offer lockers which is nice. It has curves and a bit of a hill to it. This is average though in my book. Skates were extremely dull!!! I know how to skate and I could barley move with these skates. They do not sharpen them at all. Also skates are 2 times smaller than your shoe size just FYI.
Adrian Favela
Excellent experience, will gladly recommend to others.
Ina A.
Nice atmosphere, especially at night time. Ice quality is horrid. Also the ice is at an incline and decline in some places so it's actually hard to skate. Staff is very nice! Lockers can fit either 2 pairs of shoes OR a backpack.
Jonathan Li
The ribbon itself is very unique and fun although the experience doesn't back it up as much. Generally this place gets pretty crowded and the slicker than normal ice and the slight grade certain parts of the ribbon have make it difficult for novices. Additionally i'd recommend bringing your own skates as I waited nearly an hour to get rentals.
Marjorie Easley
The most fun ice skating rink in the city. If you know how to ice skate you'll have the most fun ever because there is some slight terrain where you get to skate uphill (slightly) and gain speed going downhill. The rink is large and has handrails on both sides for people who are learning to skate. They also rent cute little penguin shaped skate helpers for kids learning to skate. It's a lot of fun and a nice change from just going around in a circle- I still love the millennium park rink, but this one is great! They do get super busy, so it can take 30+ min in line to rent and return skates.
Jake Boxer
Sooooo much more fun than a typical ice rink. Amazing views of the city as well. Ice is typically resurfaced at 2 and 5 and takes about an hour. The line to rent skates is usually fairly long but you can get right on if you have your own skates.
Christopher Carroll
Fantastic ice ribbon in an awesome park with tons to do. Easy to get to by all train lines and many buses (avoid the very high parking rates). You can rent skates but the lines are very long on weekends. If you bring your own skates you can just hop on the ice for free no waiting.
Dylan Glogowski
This park is beautiful during all seasons. However, today was my first day visiting during spring. (Or at least spring weather!) I was very excited to ride my skateboard around the ribbon. Maybe in about ten minutes time I was asked to get off the track by security. I had to go to the office to ask if skateboards were allowed on the track because I was so surprised. Sure enough skateboards are a no and roller skates are go. I would highly recommend opening up the ribbon to all users. I understand if people were trying to do tricks and what not throughout the track but in my opinion as long as you are not upsetting the flow of wheeled traffic, skateboards should be allowed. Beyond this, the park is beautiful and a great place to relax!
Lauren Topel
It's best to bring your own skates since the line is at times unreasonably long. There are also long breaks to resurface the ice, and it may be possible to look online or call ahead to avoid that. But once on the ice, it is an experience to remember. Nothing like it with the Chicago skyline right there and skating a pinch up and down the mini incline, around bends, and with lots of happy people. And it's free to skate!
Geysa Pinho
This place is fun! $15 to rent a skate or you can take your own. The ribbon is fairly big bit the level is a litle elevated it has some uphill and downhill that can be scary if you are totally beginner.
Jessica Bachansingh
This skating is better than the bean. Easy reservation process. Rental skates are a little run down but not terrible
Zyon172001
First timer here so I was scared but it was so much fun
Vanessa Senecal
The ice ribbon is a fun trip! More of a novelty than anything, however. It is rather small, and she to the sheer volume of visitors the ice wears down quickly and can become quite bumpy. However, there is free admission, and skate rental is not too expensive if you need them. It's the outdoor place to skate that's right downtown, so I wouldn't skip the visit!
Matthew R
I had a great time here with my girlfriend. We came around 12 on a Friday and they were resurfacing so make sure you watch their twitter so you can avoid issues. We came back at 1 and waited less than 10 minutes to get our skates and get on the ice. You can skate for free if you bring your own otherwise rentals are $12 and they will hold your shoes. Lockers were $1 but aren't very large so avoid bringing a big bag. The rink is pretty cool and I enjoyed that it wasn't the typically circle. It can get cramped in spots and part of it is uphill/downhill so be careful. I had a great time ice skating and also going on the all ages playground nearby, I wish they would be this innovative in NYC.
Colin Mickow
I have been coming here once a year since it opened, and I always have a great time. The ribbon is much more interesting than just going around in a circle within a square rink. Also, there has never been too many people or much of a wait to rent the skates.
Ralph Braseth
Top 20 visitor attraction during the cold months of the year. It’s novel for sure compared to traditional skating - left, left, left, Zamboni - right, right, right. Instead there are twisting turns along with inclines and declines. The architecture is as beautiful as it is original. To top it off skaters will be blown away by skating in the shadows of some of Chicago’s greatest skyscrapers. Night is absolutely the time to visit. I’ve never met anyone who skated the ribbon at night that wasn’t blown away by the experience. If you have skates, it’s free. Rental skates are $10.
Alex Montinola
Beautiful place to ice skate but there is a slight incline for some of the track which makes it somewhat difficult/frustrating to get around the entire ribbon. It isn't steep, but if will definitely fatigue you faster especially if you're using rental skates
Karen Bartzis
What a beautiful park, nice outdoor ice skating rink, they serve hot coco and snacks 😋, great place to bring the kids, or just get away for a walk in the park …
Harald Ringbauer
Great skyline to skate in front of. Unfortunately, the rental skates were in very poor shape - so make sure to bring your own pair! The ice was also very low quality in some places; with holes that made even experienced skaters stumble.
Oliver G
Unique ice skating experience with some nice downhill turns, only draw backs are the tiny lockers and absolutely awful music. Bring some wireless earbuds. I brought my own skates but it seems like the rentals aren’t too great from the looks of it. You get in the Park for free and can skate as long as you want which is a huge plus.
Dominique Mckendrick
Wait time was a bit much but not exaggerated. I feel it's best to go much earlier or much later in the day to beat the line. Or being your own skates if you have them. I enjoyed my time there, and would like to go again someday.
Aninditta Rao
Well organized in Covid times. Was easy to make a reservation online. A bit of a line for check in and wristbands. They have penguin ice skating thingies for kids to use. Not crowded.
Charles Felish
Free if you bring your own skates! Still gotta pick up a wrist band before you get on the ice. If you drive, pre purchase online to park in the Lakeside Mellenium Park garage and save about 50% - It's the closest you will get to the ribbon. Walker penguins available for kids for $10. Very busy in the Christmas season, pretty open in the mornings after the holidays.
Robin Schnell
Really cool ice skating track!! Greetings from Canada
Saulius Arlauskas
Best place to ice skate!
Martha Geppert
This is a unique experience in a beautiful setting. Different from a flat rink, the ribbon is a path with some variation. Set in Maggie Daley Park, there are views of the park, Millennium Park, and the Chicago skyline. The waiting line for skate rental can take a while or bring your own skates. The field house has benches and lockers. Very well done.
Sarah Riddle Cashen
This is the most unique staking rink that I’ve ever been to. It’s a circular strip that winds in a loop like a lazy river! So much fun here, a hidden gem! It’s tucked away in Maggie Daley park and is less busy than the easily spotted rink by the bean.
Puneet Jain
great staff. my wife lost her glasses and the lady at shoe rental went. out of way to recover for us. good might use some veg option for those not able to take hotdog.
Diana Southern Norman
Fun atmosphere with a unique way to skate with Chicago views all around. Hot chocolate was delicious, available at the ribbon-side cafe along with other snacks and drinks. Free to skate, rentals and locked available for a fee.
Nichelle Wrenn
Ice skate rentals, lockers restrooms and a warm place to change into your skates. Go online and get tickets in advance, sales are limited.
Dre Matt
Such a unique skating experience with a small incline and decline on the ice. Santa likes to skate too! The fun doesn't stop when the ice melts...in the summer you can roller skate around the ribbon or climb the rock wall
Wilda Mende
Took the grandkids here and what a success. They got all there energy out. A very lovely place. Will be coming next time they are in town.
Nicklas Ulvnäs
Very fun and nice place to visit. Free if you have your own kid, but the rental was only $12 ( 2016) and that allowed me to stay there all day if I wanted. Highly recommended. Only downside is there was no helmets.
Chad Karol
Kids loved skating here.
Camille Jensen
Lots of fun. Pricey if you don't have your own skates
Michael L
Awesome skate with the city overlooking you. Hardest part is getting there if you don't live nearby
Sydney Stelly
Definitely worth doing in the winter. So fun to skate on at night. What’s great is that you can rent skates and then take a break for dinner, and if you come back with your wristband you can get skates again.
DonaldCrump
While me and my family have always loved Ice Skating being able to skate while viewing the beautiful city of Chicago is just a treat (Pro tip-Go at night/evening so the skyline is lit up its a whole different experience)
Andrea Gerber
Surprisingly efficient and friendly staff. Very patient folks considering the volume of people they are dealing with. Novel track with slight inclines. Ice gets pretty hammered between resurfacing, but overall a great winter activity.
Rico Attanasio
Got there around 2pm. Not much of skate rental line. Got rental hockey skates quickly. Ice was choppy but skatable on dull rentals. Zam came out at 230 and took 1 hour to do the ice! After resurface the rental skates were useless - no edges - more difficult to skate. Also at about 300 pm the line to the skate rental was out the door and in the cold.
Sean St.Clair
extraordinary city treasure, as there is nothing as unique as this skating ribbon in the world. the skating ribbon has some great twists and turns with some slight elevation changes, plus the backdrop in a city park framed by the Chicago skyline makes this an amazing winter stop for all tourists and locals
Rafael Leite
Super fun!! Was my second experience ice skating and was so fun!! I highly recommend to go during the week, before 6 pm to avoid big ice skates renting lines.
Mark Gambill
Katie the GM has got everything covered. Polite, courteous, friendly, and always positive. Your experience will not be disappointing! ☆☆☆☆☆
Andriy Fediv
Wonderful ice skating rink. Not a boring oval but a track that gives you more space to do what you want.
Eric Blush
The ice skate rental is a little hit or so miss. Bringing your own skates makes things a lot easier
Chirag Sancheti
It's beautiful rink.
Kathryn Lapin
Maybe we went on a bad day....but it was so crowded. People love to stop right in the middle to take pictures and this disrupts everyone else trying to skate by. Also, rentals are so dull!! I wish it was either wider, or that there was a skate patrol to ensure people are moving along.
alma
I had a awsome time there I love the decor also i love the convience almost just anyone can put on their ice skates and jump right on. My father also loves this park and the ribbion. I suggest thet you go there whenever you can. It is curvy and twisty, and on the way down it has a slight hill, witch was fun for me and my friends I hope you like it just as much.
Daniel J. Gandor
Super fun! If you have your own skates, it's free! Otherwise rentals were $12. Watch out for Zamboni times, puts the ribbon out of commission for an hour at a time.
Ellie S.
Love this skating rink. I go here every holiday season and amazing ice too. I love this place, the staff are really nice, smooth ice, and good zamboni. I also learned a few ice skating tricks here. I 100% recommend this skating rink.
Audrey Knox
The ribbon is my favorite place to skate in Chicago, hands down. It might even be my favorite place to skate anywhere in the US! Way more interesting than skating around a normal rink over and over—it feels like a Mario Cart circuit come to life! A must-do Chicago winter activity. ✔️
Rasmus Overgaard Jensen
Great skating in downtown Chicago. It's free if you have your own skates, just remember to pre-book
L Duggan
Great outdoor ice skating rink. Full of people. Staff is kind, downtown Chicago, amazing views and there is hot chocolate!! Great way to spend sometime outside enjoying the city.
Ahsan i
Great sheet of ice, and a good experience. We visited here on Saturday night to enjoy an evening of ice skating. Overall the quality of ice was goods, the rental equipment is although a hit or miss.
Marcia Levin
Even on a cloudy, cool day, Maggie Daley Park seems like an oasis amidst the skyscrapers. We did yoga in the Cancer Survivors Garden and found everything surrounding us inspirational and tranquil. Go there. You will agree.
Chad Stephens
Can use it in the summer for skateboards and scooter!! Our 4 year old loves it!
Robert D
Rough ice. Online zamboni times are inaccurate, so I’d call before going. If you rent skates, they don’t let you reclaim them if you leave (e.g. after you take a lunch break). Good location, and accessible to parking on Randolph st.
MnR
Best ice rink the the entire midwest, very beautiful and smooth.
Josh Shields
This is a fun rink to try, especially if you're bored of the flat one in front of the Bean. There is a slope upwards and then downwards on this track with turns along the way. It can be tricky but there are side railings if you're not an experienced skater.
Aya B
Went with the family and we loved it
Kevin Kelsey
Skates were a little painful but it was a fun time any way.
Patrick Hasse
Beautiful park and ice skating rink. As Minnesotans, we couldn't travel to Chicago without experiencing the local ice.
Fernanda Sancevic
There was a line but it moved fast. We stayed longer than expected because we were having so much fun. There is music and a food stand with hot cocoa and other snacks. I recommend to go during a sunny day to fully enjoy the experience.
Patrick Nogal
Great place to get away from the feeling of winter. Great views. Bring your own skates. Rental times can be well over 30 minutes
Jean Harrison
Its the only roller rink we have near by, I have been coming here since I was a kid myself, now I brink my daughter here. We like this place. music is good, refers are helpful and the price is reasonable.
John Freund
First time and it was fun. The rink gets choppy in some areas, not sure how often they stop to resmooth it. Location is nice with convenient underground parking, several restaurants within walking distance.
Blue Blue
Great family entertainment
Mickey Callahan
We loved watching the grandsons whipping around the skating ribbon at dusk. Friendly staff, super clean restrooms, efficient payment method for rentals. Fun fun fun!
William “Bill” Hamel
Ice needs much better care, especially for those who trip on huge gouges in the ice. Otherwise it was a great date night!
Tian Xie
Great place that I go every winter. The place is clean and not clouded. The people there are friendly.
Keith Loizzo
Been visiting the ribbon for a few years now with the family, a few things we've learned
1. Go buy your own skates from a resale shop (or bring yours from home) A. it helps avoid the LONG lines and B. You're going to spend money on renting skates year after year anyways
2. Take a look at the Zamboni schedule in advance so you don't show up and have to wait 30+ minutes to skate
3. Be patient, and have fun, it can get crowded on the ribbon, take your time, have fun, and avoid accidents
Siddhesh
Loved this rink as it wasn't just round. 1 hr waiting on weekends ($15). They should maintain the rink more though; it's got a lot of rough spots.
Felipe Rabat
First off, the whole park experience was amazing, and my son and I really enjoyed the ice skating. Everyone was just SUPER friendly and we had a blast!
Angel
Lockers cost $3 and are pretty small. Cannot wear backpacks on the ice. There is a ln open shelf near the rink for backpacks.
Hotchocolate and snack shack just off the ice rink.
Busayo Sobowale
Totally cool place with rock climbing... You have to pay to do the rock climbing
Katie Hornsby
Fantastic - $5 for skating if you have your own skates!
Paxton
Get a size smaller skate. Good activity for the winter months.
Kelly Dittrich
I took my 5 and 6 year old and they loved it! Plenty of benches to hang out and take a break, and they loved the hot cocoa. It is extremely well maintained, very impressed
Matthew Cheung
If you don't mind waiting an extremely long time to rent skates (during the prime winter weeks), then it's great. Also a little packed, but how could you expect anything different?
Sergey Kudakov
Nice relaxing and cheerful atmosphere, fun and unique skating experience. Good skates selection at rental. Lockers. Hot chocolate.
Agent L0KEY
Nice park but it's cold and rainy day so not much fun today.
Abby Brand
This place is a madhouse around the holidays but they're very efficient with how they run things. Great holiday fun, I love that it's not your traditional flat/arena shaped rink.
Giovangelo Hernandez
Great ice rink although be prepared to wait in line for at least an hour or bring your own skates. This place gets busy
Bridget Gongol
The ice was torn up pretty badly with the holiday traffic, but it's a cool and unique experience. Worth your while, especially if you have your own skates.
M Ali
Make sure you check what time the snow gets surfaced(closed rink) or else you'll waste an hour
Lexi Kasai
I really had a wonderful weekend and I went ice skating
Olivia Gassner
The coolest rink I’ve ever been to. So fun
Becky Nitschke
Such a great place! Views were also amazing
Daniel Winne
Amazing design and fun experience but the worst skates we have ever rented. Alarmingly dull blades. Great ‘ribbon’.
Noah DeLano
Looked cool, but we rented skates, then were told it was to warm to skate after 45 minutes of waiting. Bummer, but still looked amazing
John Zajeski
Located right in the heart of the loop this is one of the coolest parts of the city. They have rentals right there on site so you can rent some skates if you don't have your own.
Heather Rivera
We take the train out and skate with a group of us once a year. The line is a bit long but we enjoy spending time together and catching up while we wait.
JIM S
Great downtown location for a skating venue. If you bring your own skates, it is free. If not, there is a skate rental fee.
Max Goldberg
So much fun! The track is so much better than just skating in circles. It made for a great time with friends.
Wade Stofko
Chi-towns best outdoor ice skating that has rentals available.
Ronnie Ghose
Awesome ice skating place. It's very picturesque and the staff are very helpful - definitely would suggest
Squid munoz
Cloud gate(Thebean) is so cool, the garden so full of color.
Pavlo Terpak
Great Chicago winter attraction. If you live or visit Chicago in winter and you like ice skating, make sure to visit this place. It's the best in the evening.
Alex Witek
Crowded to the point I felt like I might run somebody over, and "no backpack" policy forced us to pay $3 to rent a locker. Uncertain why we would not be allowed to carry a small backpack...
Kara Wang
Friendly staff, plenty of lockers, clean bathrooms. The ribbon is also way more fun than a traditional rink!
Amanda Johnson
We got reservations for the last day of the season and it was perfect! Almost hoping they keep the reservation system to keep crowds manageable.
Matthew Lewis
Wonderful way to spend an evening or an afternoon. The skating 'ribbon'
Tere Soto
We enjoyed it. The ice assembly smooth. The reduced number of people was good for socially distancing event.
Arthur Riepenhoff
Not enjoying these new policies like wrist bands and no backpacks on the ribbon. Usually enjoy going, this year the ice seems pretty good so far.
Joe K
It's fun if you have your own skates, rentals are old and horrible.
Valentin Juvet
The place is great, but bring your own I e skates, or you will have to wait in line to rent a pair of bad ice skates
Marcel Aguiar
Best part in downtown to do some workout, pick nick’s and take kids in the amazing playground (I hope COVID will finish soon so it will be open again)
Gail Goodwin
Great place for skating, roller blading, and scooter riding. You can rent their equipment or bring your own and skate for free.
Ye Ye
Very fun
Tim Leach
Fun for the entire family.
Mark Shires
Loved the loop & inclines!
chris fontana
Great time and like the trail versus rink setup.
Sabrina Marie
Could have been a good experience but they made us wait the whole last hour just to turn us away when we were at the counter buying the skates.
Randy Neufeld
Great place but long lines for skate rental. Bring your own if you can.
Emily Cantafio
Great place to spend an afternoon with the family!! You won't regret it.
John Hunter
Bathrooms, found parking on Randolph, ice good. Free if you bring skates. Nice warming house
David
Ice Skating in the middle of Chicago was an unforgettable experience!!
Daniel Jakubczak
This is such a neat location. The rink is huge and even has a bit of a decline to give it some texture. Worth several visits a season.
Pedro Finch
Awesome little skate ribbon. Love how it’s a nice one way track!!
ming tai
Too crowded for such a narrow skating rink; otherwise it is a nice rink with both upslope amd downslope elements.
Catherine Brede
Would recommend when it's colder so there isn't slush. Other then that had a great time!
Joe Wierzbicki
Skating on this is really fun. However be aware of your surroundings because the ribbon is crowded with a broad range of participants.
LeJean Easley
It's great! If you go during the busy time the lines can be long, but it is a lot of fun.
Allen Tsai
Highly recommend if you have your own skates. Otherwise, get ready to wait hours in line for skate rentals
Pranav Bhadharla
Incredibly fun place to go ice skating and a great contrast to tradition rink ice skating. A little bit more pricey than other ice skating places.

Chaim Gross

Briane Amodeo
Ice skating in the middle of the city was a blast! Reasonably priced, friendly staff, all around good time.
Craig Vodnik
My secret tip is to avoid the crowds and go on the coldest days when most normal people spend their time complaining instead of embracing the cold. No lines and clean ice!
marvin gonzalez
Fun place for ice skating in winter, roller skating and hiking in summer time
