Reviews of Feathered Friends
Ashok Kumar Muthusamy
They have some fantastic mountaineering products. Anyone would agree that their Sleeping bags and Down Parka are amazing.
But their customer service could improve.
- Starting with providing free return shipping labels. Nowadays, as most of the ordering is online, I am shocked to see that I have to pay for shipping back my product.
- Training people on phones - I called them to order volant-down pants. I gave them all my measurements and what size of pants I wear, and I was told to order L and XL pants, both of which were much bigger (not even in the ballpark of my size). I called customer service again to see if they would provide the return label, and I got a reply that "I didn't tell you to order L and XL. I don't know who did. Our policy is that we don't provide the free return label." For god sake - please have better people speaking on the phone.
- Provide better sizing info on the website. From my experience, it seems the people in the shop are not qualified to know the product well. So, it would be nice if the website had more info on sizing.

Just like neighboring REI, it's a really fun space! We came to buy a down duvet and appreciated the help. We really didn't know what would be best and they made it easy to decide without any sales pressure.

The staff here is knowledgeable and most importantly, has integrity. I bought a pair of polarized sunglasses here today, but I also wanted to buy a pair of La Sportiva Aequilibriums. I tried to buy a size which was too small and they really took their time to help me figure out my actual size even though they were sold out of my actual size at the moment.
I never write reviews, but I felt compelled to write this review because too many other stores will suggest you buy wrong sizes if they don’t have the right size in stock. In contrast, feathered friends will make sure you get what you need.
The lack of sales pressure is really refreshing. Really the best retail experience I’ve had in a while.

Feathered Friends has a great selection of the world’s best down mountaineering gear. Seriously, their gear is rugged and performs incredibly well. They also have some tech shirts and shells (Montbell, Patagonia), and some tents. After seeing their display, we went in for their down bedding (pillows and blankets). The down pillow we bought is the most comfortable thing I've ever used. It's like sleeping on a fluffy cloud.

"Shop Local" is great, but it's not enough.
Thankfully, with Feathered Friends you get to shop local, while simultaneously getting the best. Locally made, responsibly source materials, and some of the finest craftsmanship I've ever seen in a jacket.
I have jackets from dozens of competitors, and the FF jackets I own will be my last. They're that good.
Juliette Kerven
Awesome friendly staff who are happy to chat gear 😊
Also they often have stuff in stock which REI has run out of …
Michael Barton
This is the only physical location that Feathered Friends has, and what a great one it is. The staff was incredibly helpful and patient, because this is the only chance you'll have to physically try their products. They also sell jackets, gloves, mittens, and assorted other products that keep you warm. But we all know that no bag could possibly keep you as warm as a Feathered Friends sleeping bag.

Ordered a sleeping bag and other items online. I got it 1.5 weeks later but the entire order was wrong, including the sleeping bag. They sent me a completely different model and in a different color, but threw in the tag for the original bag I ordered so not sure how they shipped the wrong bag. I emailed them and Neil got back to me very quickly and resolved the issue. People make mistakes but it's what they do to correct it that matters, and I think Neil was great. So you don't have to worry too much ordering online because their customer service is awesome.
Geo Min
Great service, really helpful when explaining gear and a lot of variety of items! Really friendly staff!
I rented avalanche safety gear, crampons and ice axes and all the gear worked great!!

I’ve been a Feathered Friends customer for 22 years. It is easy to tell that most of their staff spends time in the mountains and has experience with the products. They make their own top quality gear locally and carry other high end products. One of my favorite places to support!
Jake Quartuccio
Feathered Friends has super high end down. Their UL Flicker sleeping bag has won recognition from Outdoor Gear Lab - a group that compares the best outdoor equipment. My buddy also bought one of their puffy jackets and loves it - he's planning to bring it to Aconcagua. The staff were super friendly and also very knowledgeable.
nathan anderson
This place carries some excellent high end snow/ice gear and equipment.

Feathered Friends is perhaps my favorite climbing shops. They are located in Seattle next to REI. They and locally owned and manufacturing of down products are also local.
I have several Feathered Friend sleeping bags. I don't own a Rolex but their bags are the "Rolex" of sleeping bags. First the quality of the down is better or best. They will also custom build a sleeping bag making them a little longer, warmer, wider, custom zipper, or what every you want. You will not find this at the huge consumer climbing/hiking shops.
When I walk into the shop, I am in bliss with all kinds of climbing gear to purchase. There staff is super knowledgeable and helpful. I have had just one issue over the years with some climbing boots and have found that the are very responsive and professional in dealing with problems.
Remember you can always purchase the typical backpack, boots, climbing gear at the typical store. Feathered Friends will have many products that you will treasure. I have purchased several down jackets and other specialty items. Each of my purchases I truly treasure. If I just need an ordinary item, I can go to an ordinary place.
Also parking is easy. Park at REI for one hour free. They are across the street, kitty-corner, so that makes it super easy to get there. Also I found sale items at REI and they have matched the price to stay competitive for customers.
This is my first review. If I only wrote one review this is it. I can't think of another climbing shop I would like to visit other than Feathered Friends!

When you need quality climbing gear, this place rocks (& open late). Very fine custom & stock sleeping bags, Hilleburg tents, a solid range of technical boots & the only store Seattle selling aid equipment. Also some really snazzy jackets if you're feeling minted!
Brad Spiegel
Without a doubt one of the top Outdoor Clothing manufacturers and distributors in the world. If you need a sleeping bag for life and for extreme conditions as well as other types of outdoor mountaineering equipment you can't find anywhere else this is the place to come to. Only downfall is getting there and parking due to the massive amounts of construction going on all around this location.
Liam M Stacey
This is the place that has (had?) locally made feather sleeping bags. Anyhow they have the serious gear for the mountaineer. They compete directly with REI across the street for prices on climbing shoes etc - even considering the REI dividend.
We found the staff highly knowledgeable.
Andrea Severson
Amazing locally made down filled products. Also have a good collection of gear. The staff is a bit more knowledgeable about climbing/mountaineering than REI across the street.
Chris Earle
Bought my first FF bag in 1986 and I'm still using it (mostly as a winter comforter - the zipper finally died). The 1991 bag is also still in use; both have way more than 1,000 nights of backcountry use on them. The 2010 bag has about 150 nights now and still has like-new loft. They use the best down available, is why. Also, this is the only sleeping bag company I've ever found that has honest temperature ratings on their bags. If FF says a bag is good to zero degrees, they mean you can sleep naked in it at zero degrees. North Face, REI, or Big Agnes, for instance, expects you to wear every warm garment you have to be warm at the rated temperature. I also have their vest - 16 years old now and just starting to lose a little of its loft. Still super-warm.
Ari Kohn
Pricey! But high quality! Super knowledgeable staff. Own multiple items from Feathered Friends (including the down jacket I'm glad to be wearing now in this 35 degree weather).
Julien Kozak
The girl who helped me was so nice. I’ve always heard about FF, so when I got the chance to visit Seattle it was my first stop. She let me try on every badass Rock and Ice parka size I wanted and went in back to get me their poofiest sleeping bag rated for -60. I couldn’t afford anything but it was like being a kid in a candy store.
Patrick Sullivan
Staff was very helpful and attentive. They have AWESOME down products. I got my sister a Christmas present there and I know she's going to love it!
Martin Cawthorne
If you need expedition quality down clothing, sleeping bags or comforters this is the place, moved to this new location from their old location just down the street. Quality products.
Eric Kreckman
Great down gear. It's not cheap but has performance way beyond synthetics. Lots of Alpine gear too. Good service from friendly folks.
Jameson Williams
As I look back on my life before my Feathered Friends Bavarian Light 700 Queen Down Comforter joined my voyage, it’s hard to say that I was truly living. In retrospect, those were dark and lonely nights. They were cold nights. I had been missing a warmth in my life, the remedy to which had up until one moment eluded me.
That moment was when I brought the Bavarian light home, and our relationship began. With it I have found a fulmillment that no other bedding has brought into my life. My slumber is filled with restful joy and dreams of bright futures. My body is warm cause of all the goose feathers and stuff. — out

Feathered Friends is taking social distancing very seriously, allowing a small number of customers at a time. However, I found that it led to a personalized shopping experience. Nice work, guys!
Paul Kriloff
Selection is what's typically brought me here, and now service is, too.
I bought a pair of mountaineering boots here earlier this year and was disappointed when the rand wore through after less than a full season. I took them back to Feathered Friends, and they gave me a new pair. They'll deal with the manufacturer while I keep climbing - much appreciated.
They're also one of the few stores around that carries technical down parkas and sweaters year round. When I needed a down parka with a hood for a Rainier trip, all a certain large retailer had was a bulky Columbia model that would fill a pack on its own. Feathered Friends came through with their Helios puffy - that thing is lightweight, crazy warm and packs up to a tiny size.
I had a similar experience with mixed terrain boots - the same unnamed large retailer had a few select models, but Feathered Friends had Salewa, Mammut, Scarpa and LaSportiva to choose from.

This is a great store, and the down products are first rate. They have less inventory than REI, but somehow they always have far more stuff I want to buy. Very knowledgeable staff.
Zeb Blais
Super knowledgeable and friendly staff. These guys are like climbers, but friendlier! Great experience, and no lines to deal with.
David Pelster
The company has great gear and great customer service. They handled some exchanges and returns I had with great service.
Change Life
I like the fact that their products are made in USA. Big plus for me. Like the rest of Seattle though hospitality sucked. Only enoughnot to give 5 stars. Hopefully others will have a better experience from employees.
Daniel Hernandez
Super helpful and attentive. They can answer all of your gear needs and have all the quality products your heart desires for the outdoors.

Don't even dream for settling for less. Yes it may take a one to three weeks to receive your purchase. I have been shopping at feathered friends since 1994.
Austin Jensen
Always friendly. Super high quality equipment. Their down jackets are amazing!
james
Great alternative to REI and while the selection may not be as big in store the prices can be much much better with more outdoor focused brands as well
Russell Brier
Two friendly dogs, tons of awesome gear and helpful people. It is a great store for all things in the mountains.

Good competition for REI, carries a few additional brands and a wider range of down products
Mountain Bureau LLC
A fixture of providing Seattle and our clients all the equipment they need for our adventure.
Sara
High quality products, but the fit on jackets is a bit off. Torso is shorter than most.
Curt C
Made locally in the USA. I've gotten a pillow and couple coats from them. All top notch.
Duane Morrison
Fantastic staff and carefully curated gear and clothing that can take you anywhere on earth.

Great selection geared towards quality, but not so much that it's overwhelming.
