Reviews of Desert Rock Sports
What a great crew!
We booked a couple of guided climbing half days and couldn’t have been happier.
The guides (Dan and Tracy) were wonderful - super helpful, relaxed but attentive and focused on our having a good time.
The climbing is awesome - our first time on sand stone - loved it.
Amazing staff, amazing store. Went in for shoes and harness. Staff was very knowledgeable and looked out for climbers’ safety. Great place!
I was only in there for a minute killing time but they had everything a novice would need to be safe and a variety of stuff that I'm not advanced to understand. Staff was chill and always good to support a small business
Glad there is an independent climbing store here. That other big box place doesn't have an ounce of charisma and cannot be compared to buying local.
Super friendlya and helpful, a very large selection of new and used gear (for such a small shop), great for multipitch, bouldering, hiking.... Many thanks!
Great climbing shop with laid back and knowledgeable staff.
Not only does this shop carry a good inventory of climbing gear at competitive prices, the employees also have a great sense of humor and are fun to be around. Keep up the good work!
Spoke to Travis, the younger man who is helping the owner. The guy is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and kind. The store has the best tips, beta, printed topos, guide info, books and more. If you don't know what to do or need help with something local to red rocks, don't go anywhere else.
Side note: Travis actually took me up to Cadillac crack (offwidth) and my buddy and I had a blast. He lead and brought his #12 and big bros. The guy is beyond helpful.
Additional note: did you lose gear? I did! Travis helped me get my #4 back. Once again, a local who knows the lay of the land.
Travis was extremely knowledgeable of the local trad climbs and gave me good recommendations on which route I should check out for my level of climbing. He most likely saved our group from having to climb in the dark as he was able to recommend a piece of gear that allowed us to top belay two people at the same time with ease. These people know their stuff and I will gladly shop here for their expertise, knowledge and convenience.
I love this place, but my past two experiences have been kinda strange. There are two guys that work here. One of them is super friendly and will take the time to answer questions/concerns. You can tell he genuinely wants to help people. Then there’s the other dude. He seems like he’s completely checked out and almost feels like any question you ask will annoy him. I’d compare him to Toby from The Office, but even Toby has some comedic relief from time to time. This guy is more like a DMV clerk. Great selection of gear though, and a 50/50 chance you’ll get great customer service.
The staff were very helpful and friendly over the phone, verifying availability of specific shoe sizes and offering advice on alternative climbing destinations during a rainy period. The clothing selection was a little mixed, with many items available in only one or two sizes, but this might be due to our off-season visit in early January. Although I wasn't looking for gear the selection looked pretty complete and certainly better than the local REI that we also visited.
All the staffs are experienced and knowledgeable. They give you good and practical advice when you need information to decide which product to buy. They are careful and evaluate what you need for your best. They also have consignment service that you can leave your thing to sell and you can get credit to buy new things you need.
Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Run by knowledgeable climbers and quality people.
Highly recommend stopping by this store if you need some gear or to use their free WiFi, showers at their gym next door, and to get fed some quality beta
The guy that helped me was very knowledgeable of the products and the hiking/climbing in general. Not your typical sport store because finally there is an expert here that knows what he is talking about.
He really didn't do any pressure in me buying anything and actually helped me in making the right choice explaining to me the differences between hiking/climbing in Nevada VS other places since I am new to the area
Travis was very helpful when I chose a harness. Prices are the same if not better than what you’ll find online. They also have a spot for you to clip in and test your harness. Haven’t found a better place in town for climbing gear.
Friendly staff, very relaxed vibe and natural approach, not pushy. They helped me get set up with a good pair of climbing shoes. From a Vegas native viewpoint, go here! Support a local business! Looking forward to next time I need to come back.
Edit: I was in and out fairly quickly and the only reason I haven't given five stars just yet is that I haven't gone here enough to give a more solid review!
I like to come here to support local businesses. REI is cool and all but this place has a better vibe and almost always has better prices especially with the locals discount (ask!) You can put your used clothes and gear on consignment and get store credit if people buy. I recently had $40 in store credit from selling a couple shirts I would never wear again.
The blonde chick who works there is super nice.
For a smaller space, they have a lot packed in there. The staff has been friendly and knowledgeable. They also do consignment, which makes getting started a little easier. We rented crash pads there rather affordably.
Great climbing store in Vegas. They also have a huge consignment section as well. Definitely worth checking out if in the Vegas area. They have pretty much any gear you might want to hit the crags in the nearby Red Rock Canyon. When we were there, there are a bunch of La Sportiva demo shoes and apparel at great discounts.
Great selection of climbing shoes & gear! Friendly and knowledgable staff, and occasionally you can find something nice on consignment for a nice price. This is the only climbing shop we have in Las Vegas, and it's a pretty rad one.
I looked all over for a pair of scrambling shoes, this place had my size (12 1/2) and a good price.
The employee was helpful and got me set up with my first climbing harness. They have a rope from the ceiling that lets you test how the sit feels.
However, they have a swamp cooler instead of AC, so I quickly began sweating. Granted I sweat more than most, but it was uncomfortable in there. If that changed then I'd easily give them 5★.
Always a great rest day side trip while climbing at RR. Tons of gear to drool over and the spot to go for you multi-pitch topo guides! Staff is laid back but super helpful. Feel great about supporting a local shop too. Thanks guys...
great customer service! employees all do well with phone service ! I had something shipped across the country painlessly
The guy working there was friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable on the products he was selling. Well worth a visit. We purchased approach shoes. Apparently they have the monopoly on those in Vegas🤷♂️🤣 …
Super knowledgeable, patient staff. They have lots of guidebooks, clothing, and shoes! So many shoes! And their consignment section is definitely worth checking out as well.
This shop is awesome! Great selection for women clothing and an amazing clearance room! Staff was super friendly. If you hike/climb/ whatever- go there!
Friendly staff, great selection of gear. Purchased a mammut helmet and bouldering book here. I recommend to all interested in finding used and new gear.
Awesome place with friendly staff and the most knowledgeable help in town. If you've come to climb at Red Rock, these are the people you want to talk to.
Also they have everything a climber could need, or think of needing.
Great shop. Employees are awesome and they got everything you need! Buy local!
Helpful staff and good selection if you need something for the next days mission. Also great deals on used gear.
Great place to buy used gear! I got a one-person tent for cheap and would gladly buy boots, backpacks, clothes, and so much other gear here.
Pleasant staff and a good selection of gear for all your Red Rock climbing needs. They have quite a bit of stuff from local makers and artists as well!
I'm not a rock climber, but I do enjoy a vigorous hike. So I checked this place out for a camel pack and they were extremely helpful, but l was very impressed how they've got rock climbing covered.
Good place to pick up random gear at possibly a good price. Frequent sales and clearance items, a great place to pick up forgotten pieces for your next assent.
Local advice and knowledge if you're a traveler in need. Good cheap consignment deals can be had too, if you're lucky.
You have to really stay on people's butts to make sure they order your stuff but I'm gonna give it 5 stars anyway cause it's chill and the employees are nice.
Got a very helpful reply when emailed about renting gear!
Nice place, good selection of gear and consignment shop. Knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Dan was very helpful and answered all my questions! He got me the equipment I needed and gave me some tips for my hike!
Crash pad rental was easy and reasonably priced.
Travis knows all the great climbing areas in Red Rocks, has books, maps and gear. Stop here before heading out to Red Rocks.......
Rented two crash pads from here for red rock. Friendly staff and reasonable prices!
Wanted the Red Rocks climb book. Got the red rocks climbing book. Superb store.
Great climbing store. Had the book we needed. Friendly staff.
Went once when the sign and Internet said they were open but definitely was closed. Went again later in the week and got to check it out decent selection
Best place in town for all of your gear needs. Highly recommend!
Best rock climbing gear store on the west coast. I love this place!
Great staff and tons of good used gear.
Must stop in! Nice staff, and everything you could need on the trip. They also have a second hand area!
Nice place to get climbing gear and rent crash pads, although the rate is a little high if you're renting for a long time.
Its the only teal out door store we have in las vegasn soend your money here.
Super rad guys. Greta gear. Consignment shop and the guide books you need for the area!
Good selection of gear. Just not the right harness. For my needs
Good great, better people. Love seeing a small shop making it in this hard cold world. Rock on Desert Rock
Picked me up some climbing gear here. They also have some hiking and other outdoor gear/clothing.
Very helpful staff. You'll love the used section!
More shops should have a consignment section like DRS. This place rules.
Small store but great service, very helpful and knowledgeable
Small store, but close to Red Rocks and good source of beta.
This place is hands down the best place to shop climbing gear in Las Vegas.
Employees are knowledgeable about gear and the local area. Very helpful!
They had the last buckle
Awesomely stocked store with very knowledgeable staff.
Cool climbing store with lots of gear, new and used, and consignment sales.
Rented pads here for a few days and the process was super easy
Best gear shop in town!
Excellent great shop for climbers
Very nice and helpful staff! Great selection!
Love this store brilliant prices loads to choose from
Good shop for last minute needs. Pricey.
Clean, people nice
Fantastic help, knowledgeable people and happy to guide you.
Great value! Knowledgeable staff.
Great place to rent boulder pads.
Best climbing gear shop in Vegas! :)
Super helpful, local shop with local knowledge
Travis was super helpful.
Good service
Always treated like a king here
How could I not love this place. 😉😉 …
Always mellow and friendly.
Helpful and well-supplied.
Go. Just go.
👍 great …
Great selection
Lots off gear
Super helpful
awesome
This gear shop is AWESOME. If you're in the Vegas area check it out. The staff was incredibly helpful and they carried Misty Mountain harnesses which are surprisingly hard to find and is hands down the best climbing purchase I've made in years. The Consignment area is large and had some solid deals as well.
