Reviews of Spa at The Essex

The best bang for your buck is purchasing the day pass here. And its valid for the entire day from 6 am to 9 pm. Its only $30. Free surface parking lot. I came here after a long day of wine tasting and ended the night in the outdoor hottub. Indoor pool and sauna and steam room. It was a very relaxing last day in vermont experience. All of the amenities are super clean.

We love this spa. The attendants are so unobtrusive and the spa is so lovely. Eucalyptus steam room, dry sauna, nice showers, outdoors hot tub that's coed. Treatments have always been top notch when we've visited. There's multiple coed lounges upstairs. We had lovely pedicures from Ally in the massage chairs. Facial and massages were also wonderful. It's our favorite couples retreat destination.

I have been to various spas in Vermont (including the Equinox) and this one easily takes first place. The spa is huge - equipped with various comfy lounges with fireplaces, showers, and two floors of spa treatment rooms. You also get access to the gym and pool. They have a wide variety of treatments with very fair and reasonable pricing. The rituals (such as the mud mask detox and the ultimate zen) are the way to go. They are 80 minutes each and include massages, oil treatments, exfoliation and more. The online booking system is super easy and efficient to use. A true oasis of relaxation!!

I love how it is not part of the hotel and you may keep going without staying a day/night.
I am more of a massage and water man. I do skip the other treatments and do them locally.
I have another appointment today!

We had a one-night staycation at the Essex last week and my family cannot wait to return. First, the staff are wonderful. Second, the hotel is beautiful. Everything about our stay was gracious and generous. From the coffee, tea, hot chocolate station, smores kits. We dined at the Tavern for dinner and breakfast and it was fantastic. We got to spend an hour at the pool and it was clean, warm, not hyperchorinated, clean towels, changing area, big outdoor hottub. Great gym, too. I even remember the housekeeper's name because he was so nice. I realize the hospitality business is short-staffed but we never felt like the Spa at the Essex was cutting corners. Bravo. We brought home chocolate cannolis and I made a mental note as to which framed photos of local farm and outdoor scenes (for sale) were my favorites. The Essex delivers everything they promise. We can't wait to return even though we live only an hour away!!! Thank you team Essex Spa-- keep up the great work.

I have been to this spa a few times and always love the atmosphere. All of the areas are nicely done and the fireplaces in the waiting areas are very relaxing and enjoyable especially on a snowy winter day. I enjoyed my massage although I have to say that for the price the massage should really be longer. A full hour or hour and a half is how the massages should be scheduled and the changeover time should not be taken away from the massage time. Since I don't use any of the other facilities like the steam room or sauna it seems overpriced to me. As at least one other customer mentioned it seems unreasonable to also add a 22% fee on top of the massage cost. This is not a standard tip amount. I can see that the fees are inflated due to being a "resort" but they are too high for a standard massage.

The Spa at The Essex is the perfect respite from the gloomy winter weather in the Burlington area this time of year. Instead of traveling to Stowe, this Burlingtonian was able to reap the benefits of this facility without having to drive up the mountain. The lobby is well appointed and spacious, and the women's facilities were immaculate and up-to-date. The women's lounge is a bit small and difficult to relax in when it is full as the space doesn't allow for it. The upstairs co-ed greeting room is much more spacious. My massage was wonderful and the treatment room was very large but cozy at the same time. I then proceeded to use the hot steam sauna which was divine, and then the wet steam sauna. Unfortunately the wet steam sauna did not smell like eucalyptus as advertised, so I did not linger. I will absolutely visit the spa again in the future and hope that perhaps someday the women's lounge can be slightly reconfigured and the wet steam sauna will have a more pleasant aroma.

The overall experience was perfect. Showing uo early and using the sauna, hot tub, steam room and shower before the massage was extremely relaxing. The massage from Maria was awesome. She was very attentive and knowledgeable and enhanced the experience even more with her wonderful personality. She found all the problem areas and focused on making this "my time".

This was my first experience at a spa and although some aspects of my visit were great, my wife and I were expecting a bit more for what we paid for.
First, we purchased a couples massage. That would usually mean a massage together in the same room but apparently that just means you schedule two separate massages at the same time... so buying a couples massage here is completely pointless.
Second, getting a couples massage at a spa usually means other ammenaties both of you can enjoy together but the steam room / saunas are only in each of the locker room areas so we couldn't enjoy them together. The only co ed part of the spa is a lounge area akin to a waiting room with a fire place. Chairs only, no way to lay back and relax.
The massage itself was great! They are very good at listening to what you want and with the sport massage we requested, really focused on sore areas.
With that and the very high pricing, I can only give a 3/5 for our couples experience. It would have been a 4/5 if this was just an experience for one person.

My husband had a 5 star deep tissue massage. He said it was incredible. I had a hot stone that was just ok. The therapist didn't really know how to use the stones effectively to increase blood flow to the area or utilize and reflexology points (which is usually done in hot stone massages). The facilities are gorgeous and we thoroughly enjoyed the steam room and saunas. I was also unimpressed that they automatically add a 22% tip to each service. Since when is 22% standard -- 20% is typical for a job week done.

The message was the best ever! Nitin was exceptional! The spa itself is very nice and relaxing. I was not impressed with the front desk staff. Not very friendly and welcoming. The bento box lunch we ordered took an hour to receive. The food was tasty but the salmon was room temp, like the box had been sitting for a while. I would suggest that staff use a squeegee during the day in the tiled area by the showers, sauna and steam room. the standing water made walking a danger. I did enjoy the day and will return.

This is my second visit you to the spa. We were greeted pleasantly by Tristan. The changing areas were very clean as well as the sauna and steam room area.
I would recommend live plants in the pool area. The hot tub space could have been cleaned by removing leaves and branches. Otherwise we enjoyed our day of relaxing.

This is not the first time Ashley has given me a pedicure, but each time as been really good. We talked about eyelash tinting and I tried it, love it this morning. May have courage for eyebrows next. She is very patient and supportive as well as an excellent practitioner.

The girls who did the pedicure and massage where wonderful. The spa is beautiful and clean. My only complaint is the nail polish. The drying time is a bit too long. No blowers to speed up drying and after 3 hours I needed to put in shoes and the polish is already smudged. So disappointed for what I spent. I do pedicures often and use OPI nail
Polish and can easily put on my running shoes after less than 2 hours without issue. I suggest looking at this nail polish.

I took advantage of the promotional Pumpkin Spice Massage and I'm so happy I did! Beau is really excellent, knowledgeable and gave me great aftercare tips. I'm looking forward to seeing him in the near future for more self-care!
Miriam Salvemini
Scheduled manicure and pedicure services. Wish I had booked other treatments. Beautiful laid back setting. Ashley was a very kind, thorough and gentle. Nails look great. Next time I may try a facial or massage.
Jessica Lovely
The massages were got were *OK*, but my main problem was with the pricing. I looked online for services and saw couples massage listed for a certain price, which I assumed would cover both of us. Come to find out that was an individual price so I paid twice as much as I was expecting and there was no place on the website I could find that it specifies this is for each person (I went back and checked). The services were very pricey for the quality of the massage I got, so I don't think I will be returning.
Lisa Bergeron
Average experience. Had a pedicure. As a spa goer I didn’t feel it compared to other day spa experiences. Facility is dated. No spa music. Two women talking way too loud in the relaxation area which was very disruptive.
Stephanie Cavoli
This spa is very beautiful. The relaxation room with a view of the snow coming down while relaxing next to the fire was blissful. We ended up staying most of the da. Super clean and lots of great amenities.
My massage by Natin, was pretty amazing. I loved the work he did on my neck and that he listened and checked in about pressure.
The room did smell a little bit like rancid oils which I wasn't expecting and didn't love.
One of the staff members was very attentive and caring, the staff bringing us food and drinks was absolutely amazing. Friendly and great help. The others at the front desk didnt smile and barely looked up from the computer. Would have loved to feel a little bit more welcome when arriving as opposed to annoying them with having to do their job.
I also did not receive one of my services that I had added on. I also think it would be amazing if they acknowledged people new to the spa. It was my bf's first time and with little welcome or information he felt very unsure and uncomfortable about how to use the facilities. A stressful way to begin a day of relaxation.
Aside from those few things mentioned above we really enjoyed our time and are looking forward to our next visit.
Definitely take advantage of the space if you are staying at the resort.

The services that I visited for was waxing at the spa. They exceeded my expectations on all levels possible. Amazing staff. Great products. Great atmosphere. Knowledgeable about the offered products. Amazing service. Quality and up to date building that was stylish. When I called to make my apt they were more accommodating then I thought would be possible! I was really impressed by the entire experience. I wish I had discovered this place 15 years ago! A++++++++++++++++++++++++

My wife & I had a couples message this week. We both enjoyed it very much. It was very relaxing and it helped loosen up our tight muscles in our back & neck.....Great job to both employees who performed the message.
- our both message lunch in the Tavern was excellent.

I had a terrific body scrub administered by Forrest. He explained before hand what he would be doing and then proceded to do so using just amount of pressure. He was conversational without being too talkative and very pleasant. Ending the session with a good ale was an unexpected but nice touch.
Although I was only in the area for business, if I would ever return, I would again get a treatment at the Spa at Essex.

Luxurious retreat in a premium location!
The staff are highly professional and really went the extra mile to see to our satisfaction, and the prices are GREAT! Tristan was incredibly helpful in helping me select my treatment packages.
I would recommend the resort to ANYONE looking for a top-tier level of comfort and service!
Greg Cremins
Rooms were clean and comfortable. Each one with a kitchenette. Spa was quiet, calming, and fun. The massages were perfect. Restaurants were a little pricy but were absolutely delicious. Would recommend for a weekend getaway!
Jenny Weatherholtz
Wonderful massage and facial, very friendly staff. Could be a bit more attentive to tidyness in locker rooms and service, hence the 5 not a five. But beautiful facility, very relaxing and great food/drinks in the Tavern too!
Becky Temple
My 1st visit to the spa for a pedicure since they switched from copper basins to the old fashioned skin infection outbreak associated pedicure chairs. I received an excellent pedicure and hope that since the chairs are new that there is no biofilm yet in the plumbing.
Donna Wikander
Had a very relaxing and rejuvenating massage at the Essex. Kyle was fantastic. Loved it. He was always concerned that I was feeling good and I felt like I was in great hands❤️❤️

My massage with Kay was amazing, she totally relieved the pain & tightness in my body....in my opinion she's a real healer !
Dulce Cruz
It was awesome! The massage, the sauna, the steam room, the outdoor hot tub. Everything was amazing.

Had a lovely and restful morning, getting a massage and enjoying the sauna and the restful admosphere. Very nice.

Very nice work from Ashley—love the hairdo but not the price—$50 for wash and blowout? Too expensive!
Melinda Morse
It was absolutely WONDERFUL! Hot stone massage. Cannot wait to return. Extremely clean and friendly.
Sarah Holland
Massage and steam room was a welcome end-of-the day experience!
