Reviews of The Gateway
Sonya Graves
Super fun place for kids basically any age. Went on a Sunday and it was pretty slow there so that was good since my daughter is only 2. She went to every station they had and was loving it. They have a little house with a kitchen and all the appliances, a farm with a life sized horse in a stable and then a mini market with registers to check out. Super cute! My daughter had a blast. Will definitely be back.

The artwork around the mall is delightful! It's one of the main attractions. The zombie statue was tight!
Otherwise, many of the shops and restaurants are closed, at 7:30 pm on a Wed. When there is an event at the area next door! I was kind of surprised.
However the parking was pretty full, because they let people park in the lot for the jazz game.
Overall, had a great time at yoga! It keeps me coming back!

The Gateway was nice. It has a few restaurants there and the prices are reasonable. I had the fish sandwich which was really good and its next to the Lobster restaurantand across from the chicken sandwich place (pics attached). The outdoor seating area was really nice (if it's nice outside) which it was beautiful the day I went which was March 30, 2022. A nice little walking area just to get out and do something and close to the downtown hotels .
Shirelle C
What a beautiful place to visit so many social stops to engage in all kinds of little things that peak your interest. Great food options and spread out just enough. Decorated so awesome and colorful. Hallpass was nice as well
Brittney Boyce
It's a lovely setting that's enjoyable to stroll through or to relax and chat by the flames. Kids enjoyed the big seesaws and splash pad. It's a short walk from the train or SLC downtown. A fun place to spend an hour or two when you have the time in SLC.
Angel David Moran
Amazing place that I had the opportunity to watch the 4th of July fireworks. Very organized event. They had music, karaoke, dancing, jumping. Amazing time in here. Seems very clean and well organized… Highly recommended! ❤️
Michael Gardner
Went to Dave and Busters for a hot date and the food was so good and the price was just right. Make reservations to get your table if you don’t want to wait for a bit. The waiter was new but we’ll polite and very respectful to us.
William Cherry
Lots to do here. Very clean place. Quite a few homeless people hanging around and sleeping on the outskirts but overall very nice
Frank Cannon
We were visiting on a Wednesday afternoon. It is a VERY nice landscaped area with lots of seating areas and things to do. It was almost uninhabited, a great place for a walk. Much cleaner than Seattle and Portland. Probably much more crowded on weekends.
Vladimir Shnayderman
Good place for events but not many stores are left there. The mall has become an event center. All kind of different events are there. It's a fun interesting place to walk around because of that. A lot of the stores have converted into galleries or other small businesses one of the large stores have been converted into our workshare center.
Andrey Myakishev
I love how this place went from a weird mall to a pretty chill venue for various events. They hosted the most recent beer festival and it was a HUGE improvement over the fairgrounds. The arts fests are great. They get the best food trucks. I'm psyched to check out the new flea market.
Jana M
I've always loved gateway for multiple reasons ! The events and atmosphere are unique. The planetarium and kids discovery gateway are their . I miss the food court however appreciate the changes.
Complaint is finding parking and homeless. It's not the homeless that bother me but their attitudes especially when you show them kindness.
Other than that I'm ow for a fact they put high priority in landscaping, cleanliness and even security. Not everything comes at a dollar price but if you are looking for shopping it has all needs .
Karina Bertelli
The gateway always feels nostalgic to me! It's probably because it was my favorite place as a teen! Unfortunately there aren't as many stores to shop at like back in the day, but one thing that is making this Foodie very happy is the fact that all these awesome restaurants as well as businesses are popping up. It gives me hope that the gateway will be back to what it once was! I love the designs and the wall art. Please keep improving and hopefully bringing more business there. I will keep coming back!
Ronan Allen
The gateway as a whole is nice. We love the scenic views looking down the center street of the Gateway, but it feels almost abandoned. There were a few people roaming around as well on a Friday night, there is a lot of new construction, I for one am sad to see the iconic train station that backdrops the central plaza go. Hopefully the new construction and businesses along with it will bring some new life to this outdoor mall.

So much going on here, urban art at its finest. A must stroll through this open shopping mall. Water features, Food, Art a must when in SLC.
scottybodell
The Gateway is a fine location with many great shops. Sadly, several businesses have either closed down or moved to the nicer and more convenient to downtown City Creek area.
There are still great restaurants and a few shops around but it feels like an abandoned space. They keep it clean. The water fountain / splash pad is great fun for kids!
Maybe in a few years the city population will grow enough to support a revival of this once great destination.
Anona Meows
I don't go downtown all the time. But every time this area improves. It was so fun just to walk around and enjoy the post covid summer. I like the cultural/art aspects, pride support, activities, and the digital museum was a great addition. Sometimes living here can feel like a bubble but I like that this area has a more modern feel. Some of the food choices and the concepts they are rolling with wouldn't necessarily be my first choice but it's a fun area regardless.
Leener LoCoco
Went to the Italian festival there, being an Italian myself I have to say it was a divine experience. The food vendors were all excellent. The entertainment was awesome. Lots of things to see. It's every year. I highly recommend going.
Nahomi “Wolf” Rios
Great place to walk around, see a movie, play games and eat food and dessert.
Brenda bunnyboo
Beautiful outdoor experience for shopping and dining!! I love it!!
Candice Simpkins
We love this place. It took a hit once they made that City Center place. But now it's way more colorful and fun stuff like Dave and Busters. We went to the Dreamscapes this last time.
Adventure Traveling
Nice outdoor walking 🚶♂️ place with awesome decorations for pictures …
Tess Obenauf
This was a day out with my daughter and her two youngest. The plan was for shopping! What better place to be! There are so many shops and so many things to explore!
Big tip? Do NOT venture to this area fitting LDS conference weekend and YES folks, that includes Saturday! It's difficult to find parking, the ships are packed and lines make me think of Black Friday. The shops seem to be elite in regards to TRYING to stay on top of inventory and keeping the floor orderly. As you shop, take time to check out options in the food court. You can find a number of them around and as always the art and culture are AMAZING! Take some time to walk through the universe at the Clark Planetarium.
If you leave the Gateway disappointed , it's likely because you didn't see it all. Plenty of folks leave disappointed for that reason. 😁
Scott Huston
Extremely underrated mall. Not ever very many people there but it’s definitely the superior mall to any others in Salt Lake City. Lots of cool places to explore, affordable shops, and great entertainment like the free Clark planetarium splash park, and Megaplex theatre. Definitely worth spending a day there.
Don
The Gateway is a great gathering place. There are many varied business from a large candy store to a huge sports bar I was at the sports bar Sunday to watch the Seahawks beat the Cardinals. When you arrive they ask what game you want to see and seat you accordingly. The Gateway has had fun activities in the open areas each time I have visited. From what I have been told the Gateway took a big hit during the last recession. They have a lot of unoccupied spaces. Thus the reduction of one star. Make the Gateway a weekend destination and see what is happening.
Layla A
This was a really cool place, we went here for a few nights in a row. Our hotel was super close so it was about a ten minute walk and we would just walk here to pass the time and see the cool stuff around the area. They had some great food places and also a cool area for the kids to play around. People were walking around and it was an overall cool area.
The only thing that was a bit unfortunate was that the restaurants closed a bit early so we actually were not able to go in and eat. I think this was because of covid so some places closed early.
They had some swings in the front that had led lights on them which were cool but the made a squeaking noise that reminds you of a horror film. Next to it they have a mural which has Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Jimmy Hendrix among others.
Emery White
I always get nostalgia going to the gateway because in the early 2000's a lot of the shops were opened and we would always go for school shopping. Now however I love going to the gateway for the flea markets! Urban Flea Market does something here monthly year round for only $3 as an entrance fee. Specific vendors might have higher prices than most but I love seeing the creativity and neat finds, even if I can't always afford them due to being a cheap skate. :p

I only went to the megaplex, but the experience was nice. I went with my mom just before noon on monday, best time to go in my opinion. No crowds, nearly empty theater, relaxed employees ready to help. The only problem was the leaking pipe in the garage. When the movie was done and we were heading back it was like a small rain storm from how much mystery water was coming from it.
Pachi Art
The planetarium was awesome, they had so many cool meteorites and other fun things to look at, including making your own tornado or making a news story about a planet. Definitely a fun place to visit.
Hunter James O
The Gateway Mall is a true underdog story. After City Creek opened up, the Gateway Mall fell apart. I would stay further away from the Gateway Mall than the Liver King and a steroid test. But something changed... Wiseguys shows up. New restaurants. Free parking on Sundays....Goat Yoga.. From ashes a phoenix was born.
I will give it 5 stars when the old Forever 21 becomes something entertaining
Miguel Gonzalez
This used to be a great mall, but the city made a very poor decision purely based on financial reasons to build the city creek mall just a few blocks away, and it destroyed this mall.
I hope the city figures out a way to bring this mall back.
Great restaurants still are trying to make it
Jeff Bennett
First time going today, but already near the top of all indoor play places for my kids. The entrance price can be is a bit steep, but fortunately my total today was well worth it. They have so many areas of play this place is A LOT bigger than it looks from the outside. It felt as if you combined the museum of natural curiosity and the children's museum in St. George and this is what you would get. So many things to do...my kids weren't even close to wanting to leave after three hours, but we had already hit the conveniently close Clark Planetarium just before.
Rhondelle Murphy
I went to the children's museum. It's an amazing place to take your kids. Get a pass if you have kids 12 and under and are local. Idk how much teens will care but there are a few things they might enjoy.
shannon coleman
So much fun! The free family event for the Apollo 17 launch anniversary was the best way to get our kids more curious about the cosmos!
Tiffany Lavigne
I love it here but stress about the safety of my vehicle due to the homeless near by. We've had a bad experience with it before, but the plaza is a great place to eat and see a movie.
Robert Sanders
This is a great collection of shops, stores, and restaurants in Salt Lake City Ut. Used to be full, but now during COVID even more places are gone. Such a shame, this is very nice place to shop, walk, eat, and have fun. Try this place out, it still has plenty to do, during all seasons.
Nice atmosphere.
Brett Richwine
Parking garage took 45 min after the jazz game. We were stuck on a-3 for 40 of the 45min until all 3 level above us cleared their level. Very frustrating, they could have a lot more organized exit.
Joan Petersen Rond
We took our grandchildren to the children's museum in the gateway and they all had a wonderful time. The three-year-old and the eight-year-old had lots of activities to keep them busy. Even the twelve-year-old found some fun activities.
VJBLNT
Good place for time pass with family and friends.
Ella Camaro
So much fun in one place. The staff at the ticket desk and at concessions were very nice and very helpful. We also enjoyed IMAX 3D movie about Dinosaurs and the Hansen Dome movie The Edge. It was entertaining enough for a 3 and a 5 year old. All the interactive stations are fun for kids and adults. We enjoyed the remote controlled Mars rovers, weighting ourselves, playing with the green screen, with the infrared camera, gravity screen , dry ice display etc. We will be coming back.
Michael Salazar
There's always something to do at the gateway, side from all the shops and restaurants the atmosphere is great, and probably one of the more touristy malls around Utah. Lots of good memories here.
Mike Gardner
Took the grandkids to the movie on Tuesday discount day and while waiting, they were playing on the teeter toter and playing on the "grass". It's a pleasant surprise in the middle of the city. Lots of little picnic type areas and it's family friendly. Also went to the Clark Planetarium which is one really good place to take kids from 7-70. Saw a movie there about the Earth, looked at the exhibits and played the games. Lots of interactive and hands-on things for kids of all ages to enjoy. Been going to the planetarium since it was the Hansen
Jason Card
I love the lights around Christmas time. It's nice that they have large fire pits placed around and lots of outdoor seating. It seems like the mall is dying however as it was very slow. Store like Starbucks, Urban Outfitter ect.. We're gone.
Nathan Tidd
I'm not a shopper so I can't speak too in-depth on the quality of the stores there but there are a handful of good restaurants and some interesting art all over. A lot of it is subtly done and well-integrated into the wall. The Olympic memorial area is also super interesting.
Snow Bird
Great to walk around in! Beautiful Architecture, nice views, Cozy Cushiony Seating Areas with Fire Pits as Coffee Tables, Amazing Landscaping. Very nice, safe place. Security guards walk around and help tourists.
T Haz
Hadn’t been back here for a few years and came back to see the dramatic changes. This place is like a ghost town. Despite what appear to be good efforts to improve the look and feel of the place, it appears City Creek has made its mark with the effect not being a good one for the Gateway. I was lucky to find Costa Vida is here still.
Bo
It is a beautiful place that is just fun to walk around in if you're ever given the chance as well as food anywhere you could want it and fun arcade at Dave and busters and a planetarium extremely close as well as super easy access from the train! A must-see in utah if ever given the chance!
Mindy Koch
We had my dad’s 71st party here. Rented out an available space near the fountain. It was an amazing space and the party was perfect. It’s our third time renting out a space for an event and it’s gone so well each time. Will definitely do it again.
John Braun
First time in years that I have walked through The Gateway. Sad to see how many stores have left for greener pastures for the almighty dollar. I look forward to the day when The Gateway thrives again. It was a very pleasant walk with my sweetheart looking at the Christmas lights.
Mr C
Since some parts of the location is under construction 🏗 🚧 there is not many pics but it is a nice place. …
Liz
Food was good, but Very pricey. I thoroughly enjoyed my main dish, the sides were standard quality. Great atmosphere and their specialty drinks were phenomenal.

Don’t call it a comeback: The Gateway mall has lived many lives at this stage, and I’m quite liking the latest rendition. Clearly embracing and leaning into its urban setting, the once drab walls of this outdoor Salt Lake City shopping center, are now decorated with sprawling colorful murals and kitschy out door spaces which feature seesaws, swings, and fun, modern furniture pieces. The food court is gone and in its place a Dave and Busters. The Barnes & Nobles is also gone and has been replaced by Punchbowl Social. The long-standing Megaplex theater remains but appears to be undergoing some renovations. All this bodes well for the future of this mall, which boasts an enviable central location, across the street from the Vivint Smart Home Arena, steps away from Trax, and now hosts concerts for the likes of Kanye West, Steve Aoiki, and Diplo as recently as June 9th, 2021. This is a brilliant move as parking at a trax station and riding the train into a crowded concert venue alleviates traffic worries for future concert goers. I see a bright future for the Gateway, the comeback kid, that never really left.
Ana Chavarria
Beautiful open place to enjoy a nice weather and have dinner, lunch or any refreshments. I wished they have more stores like clothes or gift stores.
Jim Dodds
What happened to all the stores? We used to go there to shop. There's a real lack of stores from what I could see. Granted we were there late to see a movie while we're in town but as we walked around it seemed like there were a lot of empty shops. I did appreciate all the places to sit in the common area. And I did appreciate the misting water and the mood lighting. That was nice.
Probably had to have somebody check the bathrooms off the common area now and again. I think someone was living in the stall in the men's restroom.
Christie Cook
Beautiful murals and art can be found here! We love the interactive displays and the Olympic fountain! The gardens are always beautiful and my kids have so much fun here!
Tiffany Holt
The urban street fair was super fun, my son had a great time at the splash pad, and it was really cool looking at all the kiosks they had set up, even if I didn't go into any of the stores. But I love that they held the event there, good location.
Luke Hartman
I went here for a double date, and both couples had so much fun!!!! We had a scavenger hunt after eating some really good food in the food court. And we just sorta had a look around!! There's plenty of stuff to do, even if you don't buy anything but lunch!!!!!
Jason Langridge
Oh man, great food, a very well done planetarium, and enough side entertainment to make a fun day with. Maze rooms and a theater made it even better, but the chedda burger and pink floyd laser light show topped it off. Definitely recommend
Derek Damien Darcy
stores are diminishing due to City Creek. still nice to walk and look at the stores. the fountains are fun for the kids in the summer, and the Christmas tree in the winter.
Ryan Newton
I think one day this will be a really cool shopping center. There just isn't much there yet. The things that are there seem pretty cool.
Shanon Allen
Revamped into part of the Olympic park. This is a nice area with restaurants and placed to walk and see Salt Lake. Right across the street from the Vivint Arena, the Planetarium, and Dave and Buster's. Really nice area.
Brylan Eden
Great walking destination. Good place to spend a few hours just walking through and meandering. Artwork throughout is a blast to look at and local art is super present throughout in shops or otherwise
Jared B.
There are many different stores, restaurants, and even fun attractions like the planetarium (free entry). There's a little bit of something for the whole family, and onsite parking with a good price.
DaLena Jackson
I was amazed at the improvements with the gateway. I remember going to the gateway when it very first opened spending lots of summers there. After City Creek opened I went again and I thought it would be the end of the Gateway because it seemed like a ghost town. However, they did a complete turn around amped up the aesthetic and it really is just a great place to hang out. From the picnic tables with the swinging seats, to the light up chairs and all the beautiful art works that has been added leaving great opportunities for some fun pictures.
Brian Connolly
Some aspects of The Gateway Plaza were not great - sinage/information, websites needing updated more accurate directions and descriptions. And many of the businesses apparently didn't survive the pandemic.
Good Things: The Mystery Escape Room was Great!
The Movie theater was clean and spacious, and most of the staff were pleasant and helpful.
Dave & Buster's was good; it was our first time but it was what were expecting.
The Food Court signage is very ambiguous. Hall Pass - could mean anything.
Sherrie Merrell
We love going to the children’s museum here and there are some fun stores and restaurants! It would be nice to have a little more variety in the restaurants though. But we love the location and the atmosphere. There are fun chairs to sit on and swings!
Jody Canfield
I enjoy hanging out at the Gateway. Plenty to see and do. There was an art stroll and bands playing on the particular Saturday I was there. At at SkinnyFats then went to Wiseguys.
Raissa Legname
This place used to be so amazing, they are slowly doing things to bring it back and make it a little more relevant and I hope it continues. Still a nice place to stroll around at night. The neon light displays and bits of street art make some cool Instagram photos. The fountains are also great for kids in the summer.
Ashley Miller
Everything was so beautifully set up and the community center was gorgeous. It was hard to reach, and there are 2 levels in the area and one side of the complex really only let's you go up unless you want to sneak through a small wall way through the community area.
Johanna Bielby
If you are looking for something to do on a weekend, go here! They have everything from fabulous restaurants, Instagramable spots, drinks, and even a movie theatre. They also frequently have live music or a festival going on.
Ricky Williams
Lovely atmosphere and great smells from the eateries in the area. They have stepped up in keeping the homeless out so it's not as spooky to shop here anymore.
Misty Miglorin
The gateway is great as a community event venue. Less great as a shopping center. Parking is tricky, but they’ve done some good things with it in recent years.
Andrew Fitzgerald
Had a great time walking around the Gateway during The Urban Arts Festival!
Joshua Sooaemalelagi
For the few things that are still here its awesome, but the shopping center as a whole feels like a ghost town now. I am sure its not anyones fault tho, covid messed up alot of bizz
Tracey May
Awesome! The Gateway is so beautiful now. If you haven't been here in a while you are missing out! Many family friendly activities and more to come for the holidays.
Monica Rivera
Pretty outdoor mall. Not very convenient with cold weather though. Good shopping variety. The lights on the trees make the place look modern and nice. The fire next to the benches is a great touch for coziness.
Kaitlin Nebeker
This was such an amazing and immersive experience. Even with the limited reservations and some exhibits being closed, we managed to get lost in the three stories of experiences and exhibits. I would definitely recommend booking a show at the Dome Theater and doing the tour of the exhibits afterwards.
Edward Wilson
There are a lot of empty store fronts. The good news is there is construction going on in these empty spaces. New stores on the way.
James Ryan
Absolutely esquiste architecture here! I visited during the Covid-19 pandemic however so not nearly as busy as 8 very it could be! All outdoors and even miniature park/seating areas with gas fireplaces as heaters🤟🇨🇦 …
Amber Gardner
Very pretty area and real-estate but barely any shops open. THANK GOD FOR DAVE AND BUSTERS
Sam Sandwich
This is easily my favorite place to hang out in salt lake. There's a lot of really fun and unique stores and areas to explore. It's a fun place for pretty much all ages, unless there's events going on I never really feel like it's overpopulated especially during evenings on weekdays. There's comfortable seating all over which is really nice. The fountain area is a super fun area to just chill. Parking can be difficult to find downtown so I'd suggest that if you're just going down there for a good time you just take the train rather than paying to find a spot in a cramped parking complex.
Bruce Boyes
St Patrick’s day parade. Nice to see people out celebrating. It was a bit crowded but well-managed. Apparently the pandemic is over - few masks were seen.
Brandon Larsen
Really cool mall with a lot of restaurants so you're bound to find something you'll like there.
Eric Medeiros
Cool venue for a concert! Big production but intimate space. Loved the fire pit in the back for warmth. Staff was helpful and professional.
Lauren L
This is a super neat mall! They are still in the process of filling/opening the stores. Their Hall (food court) was great. Overall nice atmosphere and recommend the summer movie nights! And the Children's museum! All in all will be a really great area once all the stores are open!
Naomi scholl
I love this outdoor mall!! The updates they have done with the seating are so awesome, they have tables and chairs and fake grass (but very nice quality fake grass) and then they have picnic table swing sets. Only pics do it justice..I unfortunately didn't get pics of these but will next time I go... the whole mall is geared toward an artistic feel... it has a very nice friendly vibe unlike the stuffiness you get at city creek center..
lanny outcalt
Can't decide what to do.....
The gateway Mall always has fun activities and events going on! Check it out!
Jonathan T
This place brings back memories when I would walk around as a kid and Jr high days. I really miss the arcade they used to have and play Dance Dance revolution. Anyways, the environment is still great to have a relaxing walk. The downstairs near the theater is very calm and enjoyable environment especially with the Christmas lights hanging over your head at night.
Rae G
We have visited the gateway a few times, and its definitely somewhere we want to frequent more often. So far we have been to the Wiseguys comedy club, the planetarium, and the pizza place. A great time has been had!
Jennifer Edwards
This place use to be poppin' with many stores and restaurants, but now it's only cool for the art, movies and water fountain. Not much else to do there. Then again that was like 10 yrs ago when it was cool. Also during the Olympics that was when it was crazy packed with people and stores galore.
Rocky Mountain High
Love the Gateway, just wished more folks would visit like they did a few years ago!! Only reason for the 4 stars!
Alexandre Santiago de Oliveira
The Discover Kids place is amazing, our kiddos loved there.
Marlene Leon
It was amazing ! The Italian festival was well organized , excellent food , drinks, and good music 👍 …
Audrey Nelson
It made me sad walking through the gateway. It used to be bustling, so full of life. I love outdoor malls like this, it's unfortunate that they are no longer popular gathering places. As it was, we still enjoyed walking around, looking at sidewalk murals, playing on swings and seasaws, and, of course, we had a fabulous lunch at Chedda Burger.
Mark Sorenson
Lots to see, eat and shop. Family friendly. Safe. Fun!
Ernie Payne
Very clean and well kept. Over all the price and experience was great. No fith star as some of the staff looked less enthused about being there and could have been a bit more helpful.
Danny Ray (Felonious 1)
Slowed down a lot since I been here last but I still love my 801 Salt Lake City da hood of da lake....GATEWAY HAS WAY BRIGHTER DAYS AHEAD KUZ IT'S SPECIAL
Mike Yates
Interesting place it has random places for the kids to play or if your inner child comes out..
Toya Kinnett
There are a lot of empty shop spaces, but what is there is done well. It was enjoyable just to walk through and check out all the murals and art displays. Several great restaurants are there as well.
Shelly Linford
I love the atmosphere at the gateway and the stores and restaurants offered here. The picnic table swings and glow in the dark seating are fun. There is a splash pad for kids and lots of fun events hosted by the Gateway. Parking can be validated as well.
Senga McGinnis
my storage unit is down here. Great area, lots of fun stores and cafes and things to do around here and hotels nearby make it easy to get here for people who are just visiting
DogeLuvsGaming
The Gateway isn’t like it used to be. It used to have so many places to go, but now it’s kind of run down and not many places exist now. Pretty sad to see since it used to be awesome. :(
Douglas Karlinsey
The management company really cares about this place. They have increased the security staff immensely, and cleaned up so much. They've added new sitting areas, tables, teeter totters, swings, and all sorts of fun stuff. There's constantly new festivals and events taking place here too!
Amanda Hunsaker
It's been a while since we've been to the gateway and I gotta say, we were pretty disappointed. A lot of the retailers were either closed or just gone. It looks like they will be getting more retailers going in, but they won't be open for a while according to the signs in the windows. The only good thing about the place was the children's museum and the Clark Planetarium.
DeAnna Padilla
The Brazilian Grill don't remember the first name was fantastic oh loved it stayed for 2 hours kept eating all their meats love their drinks love the way they serve things was really a fun family experience thank you my daughter and son-in-law for 75th birthday party that was Top Notch in any other place would not have been the same
Cameron Heyward
The Gateway is one of my favorite Spots in SLC. There’s always something going on and it’s a fun place to hang with friends on a weekend.
I watched fireworks on the 4th of July here and am glad I did- the show was top-notch and was very well organized. Events here are very well planned, with good security, crowd control, parking, etc. While I can always find a spot to park, I should note that leaving the parking garage on big events can take WHILE, so I park in the garage only when I want to hang out at a restaurant or similar after an event.
The urban flea market on the first Sunday of every month also gets a shout out- It’s a great place for improving your style or shopping local businesses in the area. The market entry costs a few dollars and I love grabbing some coffee or food after. During the winter, they hold the market inside which I find very convenient! I’m also a big fan of Wise-guys and the Clark Planetarium.
Overall, The gateway is a great place to come on a weekend when you’re trying to just find something to do.
Aaron
The touches of art are nice, and the space is pretty good. Feels a little like faux urbanism though with dead spots without shops, seats, windows, etc.
Heidi S
Um, open air walking area, with art to see & fun things to do, plus try Mochi donut (best fresh/slightly warm..? Passion fruit one, I think I like it)
Amanda Hernandez
My children ages 6-13 had an excellent time here! The entrance was a bit confusing, you enter on the first floor, go up the musical stairs, and then you are there. So much to do! We spent about 3 hours, but kids would have happily stayed longer. A lot to touch and climb. First level geared towards young children. Second floor was more interesting for my older kids, even I got caught up at some of the displays/hands on activities.Bathrooms and fountains were easily accessible. Outdoor area was closed when we were there.
Torii Lee
Very fun place to walk around and explore new stores/ restaurants. They have really cool chairs and play sets that light up at night also. It’s a very beautiful place.
Natalie
We had read about The Hall Pass at The Gateway. There are many different restaurants to choose from. We ate at the Colossal Lobster and Graffiti Boa.
We had fish & chips and Calamari at the Colossal Lobster they were both so fresh and delicious! Some of the best tartar sauce I've ever had!
The Chicken Pot stickers from Graffiti Boa were made fresh, and had an amazing sauce!
On Saturday and Sundays they offer a Brunch menu. There is a bar if you're interested. Lots of different food options and next to the Farmers market 😊
Zina Markus
Huge place. Indoor/outdoor. Slots of great shops.
Isac Zuniga
Has definitely improved over the years. Seems they've cleaned up the area from previous problems they were having. They also hosted the Italian festival in 2018. So it's a nice area with plenty of fun things to do
Furniture Savage
Wow I can’t explain the feeling of everything at your fingertips but the Gateway definitely gives you that feeling. The park and restaurants along with the stores are absolutely amazing. We are from Vegas and found this place to be surreal.
Isaac B. Tanihaha
The building and the design are wonderful. The concept is also good. However, there are so many vacant retail spaces. The visitor traffic also seems very low. So therefore, the place doesn't have too good of a tenant mix.
Alexi Fisher
I remember when the gateway opened. I remember my first birthday here. I remember the gateway being the place to go hang out. It’s sad to see it so empty. Recently went for the Made in Utah. It was fun and nice to see the gateway lively again
Markii Bluebird
There are so many closed stores and empty buildings it kind of makes it pointless to walk around there even with all the cute sitting areas and fire pits I just wish it was still a mall
Mara James
The gateway mall has made a ton of improvements. They now have outdoor swings, tester toter, and other free things outside for the kids to play on. They have a good selection of food pizza, salad, tacos, sit down restaurants, fast food, and food to go. They also have underground parking that is free for the first hour which is nice. The one complaint would be the selection of shops, we typically visit for the pop up art exhibits but it would be nice to get some better stores for shopping.
Yasmin Munoz
Even though the economy is not the best, here you find great vibe, natural light, beautifully landscaped. Early evening is my favorite time. Nice place to stroll and people watch
Brian Bradley
The gateway is still a lot of fun. The fire pits, swing tables, fountains and lights are all great additions! It’s very close to the front runner train stop, so while we wait for the train we have a place to hangout.
Romit Nahar
Best movie experience. The seating is just😍 I just feel like going there to sit and enjoy. Outdoor space is good too. Will be there almost twice a month to watch something😅
This was my second visit but the experience gets better when I go somewhere else and come back here✌🏻
Chris Romero
Went to visit Salt Lake City last week and we found a cool community area where there is plenty of restaurants to check out, shopping and museums. We visited a donut spot here (forgot the name), cheddar burger and the museums around. Will definitely be back in this area when we come back.
A M
This place is so family friendly! There's so many fun activities that you can do here from science experiments to watching a 3d movies. I always try to come here whenever I'm in salt lake. Sometimes we drive all the way out just to come here. It is completely free and is a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend coming here!!
Brian Reina
It’s definitely a nice, small outdoor “mall” at first glance, but walking around you’ll quickly realize why there are so few people there, half of the businesses are shut down! It’s like a big facade, all show and no heart. Walking past all the emptiness will make you notice the bustling homeless settlement just across the street on S Rio Grand St… Was it covid that put half these stores out of business or was it always like this? 🤷♂️ More (and better) businesses would definitely help bring life to this place
Heather Best
ALWAYS a fun time! Love the atmosphere and the kids are obsessed with the splash pad!
Austin Woodward
At 5 PM on Thursdays, This place is deserted. great place for a quick walk around and have fun walking over the roads. Check out the Olympic fountain and stand by the warm fire
speech lady
Super fun place! Lots to see and do! We thought it was cool that there was such a variety of people there...young, old, families with small children, singles...a fun time. We went to see DREAMSCAPES! Totally amazing experience! 10/10 would go again!
Connor Douglas
Wise guys is a great venue. Decent prices on food and drink, and they bring really good comedy to SLC.
Loring Brush
Went to the Discovery Meusem, what a great place to teach kids about basic mechanics!!!
Leanna Dawn
So many stores, and places to dine.I was able to find parking even though when we visited, some construction was going on. We spent 6 hours here. The grounds are beautiful the fountain show was pretty. The bathrooms are exceptionally clean. I love this area and recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
Jorge Gutierrez Arevalo
Great place to walk around for an afternoon. There are some stores here and there which are interesting, but you mostly go here for a bite or a drink.
Millie Mardahay
I loved this place. The atmosphere , the college vibe, public art, food court , it just works. The food was delicious. I ordered their crunchy sea bass special and did not regret a single bite. Potatoes were just right
Scott Sartor
We went to the Urban Flea Market and got coffee on the upper level and walked around. It was a nice afternoon.
Jeffery Olson
They have done an excellent job of making this a fun shopping experience.
Christopher Schaelling
Still not as many retail stores but since I was working at megaplex during the force awakens I'd say I'm very impressed with what the gateway team is doing. They've made it a place for everyone and a really nice looking mall just to hang with the family at without needing to purchase anything. Can't wait to see what's planned for the future.
Douglas “Ryan” Ziegler
Good selection. Cool ambiance! Fun places all around for a good time any night of the week!
Beans
There isn't an elevator, and the parking is horrible. Inside looks cool. Ended up leaving because you have to pay to park and it's like 1-2hr max
Terry Wallace
Came to get some lunch and wandered around to look at the art
Food_Storage
Pretty nice place. One thing I really liked was the soda shop. The soda shop had all sorts of delightful confections like the Haitian Revolution soda and the Osama Bin Laden soda, which was kind of insensitive. I like soda though, and there was a lot of art so this mall was pretty nice.
Jackeline E. Albarracin
I have been visiting Salt Lake for a while and didn’t know this place. Its next to Arena Stadium. Unfortunately I went last monday and it was closed. I will come back in a few months.
Adam Paswaters
It's coming back. The shows put on by Salt Lake City Live at the gateway have been incredible! With more and more events, the gateway is a great destination.
Jay Waldron
This place used to be a prime destination, but it's so empty now. Barnes and Noble, Apple, that Thai place by them, all gone. The bathrooms were locked. I miss how it used to be.
Laura Gauthier
A great place to wander around, do some shopping, have something to eat and spend a lazy day.
Anna Banin
Very charming and cost. Tiny little craft shops. Pleasure to browse. Unfortunately, I've been there in mid season. Locals say the Village is fabulously decorated for every holiday.
Brian Blodgett
Still a nice venue and great member of the community. Somehow had received a bad rap since City Creek opened.
It's clean and organized. Needs more patrons.
Go visit!
Robert “007 CIA AWGS RCE” Engelbrecht
Great angel picture with and awesome water light display. Great business residents with resources.
David Jones jr
Hip?
I don't know. Seems a tad lifeless at the moment.
Marcus Cue
For the first time in long time felt safe to park here for a nearby concert.
Benjamin Noffsinger
Still a nice place with good restaurants, the Clark planetarium which I love, a megaplex theater, and the children's museum. While much of the original retail abandoned it, they've done a good job finding things to take their places that don't require the high trafic to survive. We like to walk it and especially like to come for the sidewalk chalk festival.
Steve Auerbach
I attended a breakfast meeting with the Mayor and an arts panel who shared what SLC is doing with, and for artists and arts organizations.
Tanaya Yazzie
No wait, clean lobby and the drink areas were clean. Movie was about 430pm
Curtis Olsen
Pretty cool exterior feel. However, there is not much here we would be interested in. We had some time to kill before our movie. We walked around until we stopped at a directory... there's nothing great at this mall anymore... we walked back to the theater and just waited there. A cool outdoor mall concept, but the best stores have left.
Matthew Gillis
Not the best place I have been for sure. Seems to be a thing of the past. I Mostly just go here now to take my kids to Discovery Gateway, and even that Seems to be falling apart.
Steven Moritz
****Public Notice from Reviewer****
The Gateway is currently in preparation for Utah's Last Hurrah 2018 New Year's Eve Party (Notice Picture Below of Crystal Ball) This event will be free to the public from 8 PM to midnight at The Gateway Courtyard and Fountain (as I like to call it) below the Barnes and Noble December 31, 2018. Just take caution of where you are walking, and as always respect property. There will be lots of food, drinks, activities, and live music all leading up to the start of 2019.
The Gateway has fallen really empty and silent since the opening of City Creek Center. However, the mall has current and vast revamps of the entire mall. Changes, big ones, to evolve and uplift the Gateway to bring back people, to bring a whole new fresh current vibe back to the downtown area, and to expose new shops and stores, as well as activities and social structure for everyone in 2019 starting not long after the New Year near Spring. The Mall does contain the Clark Planetarium which is a treat for the space and science enthusiast or geek, also has large Barnes and Noble, a well known book store, plenty of great restaurants for friend, family, happy hour/bar Hangouts, has a GameStop, a Sprint Mobile store, and also a Megaplex Theater to get your movie watching on, just to name a few of the more known places and attractions.
Joey Gonzales
Man everyone already knows that this is a great spot for pictures, memories can be found being made anywhere from a single human to groups of friends and families!! What a great day!
Jesûs Moreno
mall to go shopping. spare time. ok summer they project movies for the public.
T. Rogers
I went to the New Years Eve party they have every year.
The entertainment was amazing and so were the food vendors.
The atmosphere was beautiful and everyone was havng a good time.
The countdown ended with 15min of breathtaking fireworks; it was awesome.
Can't wait for next year.
Marc de Schweinitz
Vacant, yet beautiful, like the Grand Canyon. What once was, is haunted through the economic tsunami of a virus from Wuhan. The Gateway will be renewed, and sound of footsteps and gossip, in due time...in due time. Alas, Zumiez was yet to be found there, by yours truly.
Sylvain Mino
The movie theater staff was very welcoming, the seats were very comfortable, recline and heated! The dolby atmos sound was also excellent. Onky wish the screen was a little bigger, but if you sit the the row infront of the walk thru, you are fine.
Anthony gallegos
The kids loved the planetarium, the dome theater reminded me of when I was a kid as well.
Christian Walbom
Sadly this mall has gone down hill and is quickly becoming a business park with a movie theater and many restaurants. Your choice in food is nice and it is quickly becoming a hub for anyone on lunch in downtown.
Evelyn Cervantes
The railroad station is a great event venue and there's an urban outfitters here, other than that the gateway is pretty quiet on any given day.
Paris Eaton
My boyfriend and I went for an event put on by the Humane Society. Unfortunately, due to our poor planning, the event tickets were sold out, and we did not get to attend. It worked out though! We were able to stroll through The Gateway, and we ended up having a lovely time. We visited Rocket Fizz, and it was a walk back in time. We talked about our childhoods and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.
Cheyenne Stonehocker
Not too many stores I am interested in..cool that most of it is outside though!
Norman Zurn
Enjoyed the general atmosphere, good food, and sports to watch.
Kayla Hall
The Gateway is FREE FAMILY FUN!
Aside from the Clark Planetarium (formerly Hansen) , the Olympic Splash pad, and the Discovery Gateway Museum; this mall boasts a movie theatre, teeter totters, swings, and swing tables. Wether you want to pick up a delicious treat at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, or catch a California Pizza for lunch (California Pizza Company) , this is the place to bring your youngsters. If summer or winter has you down, this is the place in the city to explore. There are a dozen interesting shops, and an array of dining experiences to choose from.
Love this place for my family and I would reccomend to friends and family.
Ryan Jolley
Exciting things are happening here... Dave & Busters, Punch Bowl Social, Chedda Burger, The Store (grocery store)
Cantara Bella
Neat gathering of cuisine and drinks. The staff there all work together, and me and my family ate ourselves stupid the last time we went🤣. Had Spicy Chicken sandwiches all at different levels of spice, mac n cheese, lobster chowder, and just awesome toasted thing. You don't have to rush out because drinks are there, plus art galleries around so you can relax and enjoy as long as you want. They have table scan codes to have the orders brought to you. Next level service and atmosphere.
Morgan Hunt
Great parking availability underground with pretty good rates. Nice selection of food and entertainment. The Hallpass Foodhall is nice, could use a little bit more going on in there, but otherwise very good. Plenty of places to take photos.
Kelly Ferrone
Well they are waiting for something to happen. Used to be a mall, then a place for drugs and debauchery, now it's gonna be a place for entertainment and debauchery. We'll see. Excited for new stuff in SLC. For now some food and alcohol, and debauchery of course. I think Vegas bought this place. A very empty atmosphere atm.
Metatron Cubed
Saw a live concert that was life changing in 2020
Kate Fowler
There needs to be an even wider collection of bars and restaurants than there currently is. It’d be really cool to be able to bar hop here all night.
Paulette Haw
Wonderful place to hang out, relax, dine or check out a movie. The atmosphere is eccentric. Enjoy!
sushma alphonsa
I cannot believe all this time there was a mall right by city creek (which is the only mall I have been to in SLC). Such a fun environment with unique shops and lots of eating options.
Jennifer Pantone
Love the ambiance of the fire pits in the evening. Had fun on the teter totters, and love that there is so much to do right around every corner.
Derek Bridges
Really cool area!
Sandra Osborn
There is so much potential for this space. The Gateway structure is still fun and well-maintained but it is so sad to see so much empty retail space. They've brought in fun artsy shops but there are just not enough of them. Maybe management could entice more independent shops to fill the spaces and bring the Gateway back to life? I'm sure they're trying but until then it's a ghost town.
Irene McIntosh
Our kids LOVED the splash pad!
Tiffany Hakunashi
This place is so beautiful and so many great photo opportunities, great location and gives a good idea of what Salt Lake City is like
Amber Knapp
The location of this mall is in the absolute worst area. I do lime all the led lighted chairs and swings. But we love the Wiseguys Comedy club here.
Angela Sotelo
This is an awesome place to go with family because there is something for everyone
T I
Singles dance, what a great place to go on a date or just hang out with a friend like me. BEST NIGHT I EVER HAD WITH OUT ALCOHOL.
Clarisse Offen
I love how this outdoor mall has unique shops and fun and interactive outdoor areas. From delicious restaurants to great entertainment, this place offers a great variety of activities for all kinds of taste, showcased in a fun urban esthetic.
Leo Lalelei
I love this place. My son is only 1years old and he loves it so it's basically a getaway from the hot sun for my little fam because most of everything is indoors.
beck wolf
Only thing I didn't like was how they charge the card triple charging other than that cool atmosphere delicious food and fun drinks...a high end food court! For the win.
Elijah Wainwright
Its nice you have a open area for kids to play and run around even has a sprinkler spot for the kids aswell many stores to shop around its always a fun time at the gateway
Shauna Thompson
There are so many fun places to eat.
Jocelyn P
It took forever to find the bathrooms, and everywhere was so overpriced, but I had a lot of fun.
Eric J (Erik the Red)
We had a great time going to Wiseguys. Then can back to our car window being smashed in. Security was there shortly after we were and said there had been another vehicle broken into. They offered us free parking. I understand it's open to the public and things happen, however in talking to other people it sounds like this happens fairly regular here. Step up your security Gateway.
Mia Allen
Enjoyed dinner and a movie. Gateway is doing great things with the outdoor spaces as well
amberly wilson
Nice, peaceful, safe place to shop. Felt very comfortable here
Sam Camara
First time going back to the Gateway Mall in almost a Decade. Had an Amazing Time at WISEGUYS Comedy Club!!!
Much more Fun than I first initially assumed. I recommend spending time there!!!
Tori North
Always love our trips to the gateway. Plenty to do and love the different ways they decorate.
LJ 17
It’s honestly better looking than years back , and fun place to take pics and just chill.
Jose Gonzalez
Very cheap hourly parking, much more affordable than New York city, Baltimore and chicago and so much within walking distance
Adison Allen
Though there aren't as many shops as there used to be, there are still some great places.
Dillon Gautreau
Cost/Service/Atmosphere all great. Friendly and a perfect family friendly stop.
Robert Lusk
Needs more night life. They have added more security which improves the feeling of safety. Hopefully they can bring in move stores under new management. I have noticed a few cool changes.
Dannille Colwell
This place is awesome at night!! They had a fire going.
And a "Before I Die" chalkboard!! You could right on! It was interesting!
Brent Beardsley
Tons of great shops and places to eat. Plus, it has a great parking garage.
Fuzzfle Hypernovice
Beautiful wonderful and intruiging place to go. Games and many interactive things that will fill you with excitement at any age. So much fun stuff to learn and do!
Zach Moses
They have a Wiseguys comedy club. That's pretty awesome. Plus, they have Cheddar Burger with fried Brussel sprouts and Gluten Free buns and deep fryers. Parking is easy, and there's a Dave and Busters, planetarium and children's museum. This place is great!
Yash Shah
They have really put an effort to up the experience of this mall and it has been great to see it grow.
Dylan Grimaud
I love coming here for a nice outdoor shopping experience. The Fountains are so much fun and a nice way to cool off.
C P
Love how artsy they are getting with the place. More entertainment with hints of shopping seems to be better than it just being a mall. SLC needs as much art, entertainment etc. as we can get. More experiences. Love what they are doing with the place.
Meagan Sayer
Great shops and great dining. They always have fantastic decorations outside and it's a great atmosphere. So many things to do even if you aren't shopping.
Dillon Pick
It's actually gotten a lot better nobody begging for money no homeless no drunks not very many spots to shop at and the food selection is definitely one sided haha it's all healthy stuff not for me but it's fun to take the kids and hang out
Preston Higgins
Most of the stores are commercial. There is a good eating district there with some good restaurants and some entertainment stores but this is not a good place to window shop. There are a lot of nice sitting areas that are unique and have fun themes.
Amelia Fairbourn
Dreamscapes at the Gateway was so much fun. I am going back with more of my friends and family.
Quantum Entanglement
It's an excellent open-air mall with lots of unique events in the fountain plaza. Lots of great shops. Clean and well maintained.
Kevin Tieman
Very beautiful outdoor mall with a dancing fountain that you can play in. The Union Pacific in front of the building is well worth visiting when it is open. Pay parking is available very close to the entrances. Unfortunately there really isn't very many storefronts left in the mall anymore but some seem to be coming back.
Brian Earl
You got to drive far and look hard to find a comedy club nearly as good as this one.
Raina Mahanes
I love all of the new art there, and they have great outdoor seating everywhere!! This place is very friendly to older people or people who have a hard time walking because there are benches every twenty or thirty feet as you are walking along the road! It was very helpful, and if you really needed to drive up on the road and pick somebody up it would also be very convenient to do that as well!
James S
I love the little area with the swings. Nice place to eat and take pictures.
Shellie
Walk around with a friend had a great time before the Jazz game.
Vee Martinez
The gateway is fairly new. I admire the way they designed it to be outdoors.
Molly H (M_Petal)
Super fun place, beautiful murals and great atmosphere.
Kelsey D
They have done so much work outside and it's looking so nice! I'm hoping the gateway gains more popularity again because it's really improved and is nice we went to hall pass and I love the concept, but the food isn't all I hoped it would be. But it was a fun experience and worth the try!
Carlos Duarte
Nice place to visit. Theater is pretty spacious and comfortable. Tucanos grill is a must, with great Brazilian steak dishes. Outdoor area is a friendly place to spend time.
Rain Durrant
Not the best mall since it is outside, but I love what they've done to make it cuter. There's light up swings, patios look so much better. Great photo opportunities! And good restaurants!
Storm Whitfield
Was just passing through but I do love this mall
kari tattersall
This place has a lot of potential but unfortunately a lot of the store frontage was closed/empty. The artwork and murals was cool though and there was a lot of nice places to sit and relax and enjoy the beautiful slc weather
Priya Ball
Nice outdoor mall area. Pleasant to walk around.
Kailey Meyer
This mall is so nice. There are so many different things you can do with or without kids in the area within walking distance. I would definitely recommend going here.
Alex Baca
A shopping mall that could be great, is not, due to lack of shops. Most shop spaces are vacant. However, it still has a decent selection of restaurants and a nice bar and grill on the south end.
Taylor Angell
The outside patio furniture is an awesome addition to the many shops, restaurants, movie theater, comedy theater, planetarium, &other attractions! It cool to just chill out and relax! My only complaint is it was really dirty- Garbage everywhere & all the furniture in the wrong places. Looks like it needed a maid lol!
Samantha Burrell
Outdoor place with events. Fun atmosphere with a water feature for kids.
cullen Rogers
The place was wonderful especially in the night where theirs more lights I consider it to be a "perfect" place to hang out as a family or as a couple even though everything was close but it was a beautiful experience to roam and have fun to see how great the place really was
Alejandra Mena
It's a good place to hang out and be there.
Cache MACS
Enjoy walking around Gateway. It's good to see it growing again.
Ashley Fernandez
Beautiful at night
Crazy traffic
Tanner Herrick
Looks like they really revitalized this place.
Jonnie De La Cruz
Great place to spend the day with the family, shopping, movies, and food all in one place!
ThePinkfreak805
Great shopping center with lots to see and do. Good choices for restaurants, has a nice movie theater, lots of good shops, a few places for activities like the escape room or planetarium. Also they often have outdoor events that are always fun.
Malerie Courter
I've loved the Gateway since I was a kid, it did fall off for a few years, but it has been awesome to go back and see the beautiful changes they have made to the outside spaces!
Me Copeland
Big, outdoors bring something easy to take off if jacket weather going in and out of stores that r small i.e. mall size u don't want to wear a coat in and out of them if u have alot of places to go. Take a pic of where u park there's more than 1 c2 level for example. After a movie and shopping ur wondering was it -c2,+c2 🤔 I don't even remember all of them...write it down or take a pic if ur like me, I couldn't even find the elevator hint they're behind the big flowered florescent green painted doors to kids Playland that say ELEVATOR 🙄😶
Jill Walker
Inviting, cheerful atmosphere with enough food options to please even the pickiest eaters. Outdoor dining fun with swings and delightful color. Shopping and entertainment that are family friendly too.
Tammy
Went to a flea market here not very many vendors,I'm sure there be more as the summer continues. Nice place though to walk around in the fresh air.
Quaceé Dorby
A great place with lots of eateries and shopping centers. Also, Dave and Busters, MegaPlex theater, and the Clark Planetarium are located in this area!
Azura Das Kanji
It was beautiful this time of year. Might need to beware of sewer smells in certain areas, but over-all it was an amazing experience the second time around. I wouldn't expect to see many of the fountains on during the drought, but in the plaza; they have a minimal amount over water spouting up I the play area for people. It's right across from the Fizz Soda shop.
Lana Sparks
They are doing great updates! Looks beautiful. I love the atmosphere and would definitely go back to spend the day doing activities and shopping.
jonathan Ryan Munns
Best St. Patty's Day parade this side of Boston lol!!!
Mike Elquist
Easy parking, large movie theater, extra fun comedy club.
Miriam Perez
Love the stores and fun activities. They always seem to have something to do and family friendly.
James Nixon
Great outdoor mall in SLC that needs more love...and more shops. Convenient location as well
Joanna Champion
The Gateway offers fun for everyone. From children's activities to late night fun for those looking to enjoy libations. There is everything in between, from clothes to home decor, there is often live music and also water features that are exciting. Come have fun here!
Aaron Q
Once upon a time, this was the cool, happening shopping area in salt lake. It had great stores, good restaurants and a fountain to play in. Now, it is an empty shell. A few stores are left, and most of the res is being taken over by a biotech company. Come here for the planetarium, museum, restaurants, or movie theater, because there isn't much else.
Sandra Duerr
Very nice. Just the 4 of us in the theater.
Would be 5, but the ice cream scoop was the skimpiest I've ever gotten anywhere. Barely 2 tablespoons! Popcorn prices were reasonable.
Cassie combs
We love the gateway! I am so impressed by the creativity they put into keeping a dying mall alive! Its full of outdoor and indoor art installations that always seem to change seasonally. The winter pieces are so charming. The restaurants are great and the outdoor playground is cool but starting to be worn down and busted by people.
Joanna Liriano
I'd say my favorite street downtown Salt Lake...so picturesque; cool tables with very cool swing seats. It ends on a nice park with a water play area for kids...free of charge and very clean with restrooms along walking paths!
Dwain Holmes
The gateway is always been a favorite of my granddaughters and I love to take her down there. It's a good way in the winter time to spend a good two, maybe three hours of her. Just having so much fun. I recommend it
Skip 614
It's gone down hill if you expect to shop don't. Not that many stores.
Kevin Denos
This place is so cool and fun, the adults had as much fun as the kids did! We went to a 3D show and a laser show, so awesome! Definitely will go to more shows soon and walk around the shop next time.
uɐᴉǝuɐ ɥsǝɯ (uɐᴉǝuɐɥsǝɯ)
Children's Museum was great fun for the kids, they had a hawk and it's trainer inside by the elevators the day we went. The retired life flight helicopter on the roof is a big win, as are the variety of quality learning toys.
Lee Jordan
Great Outdoor Mall. Dave and Bustets also was Awesome
TJ Larson
The open air mall concept is really cool, and beautiful. Of course the down side is an open air mall when it is freezing and snowing outside.
During the spring to fall time it is beautiful and very pleasant with places to sit and tables with umbrellas etc. Not so much during the winter though.
There are a plethora of businesses of all varieties on site. Come give it a look.
Lesa Deadman
Birthday fun at the planetarium then rising scooters around.
adam smith
Great concept they need a few more vendors to fill out the venues food options. Overall it is a great concept.
Bettina
Found this place to be diversified. Many shops for all flavors. Look out balcony for rest or lunch. Very clean and quiet. There was one shop that really shocked and surprised me. It's called Sweet Taco Roll. I'm not going to spill the beans. Bu I will say, if you have a sweet tooth. Go there. Trust me.
Brian Meid
I really like how the Gateway is becoming more adult-centric and entertainment focused. We had a great meal at HallPass and watched the rest of the Utes game at Bout Time. Then we had some great drinks at Seabird. We are very much looking forward to visiting Flanker soon.
TheClumsyJedi
Crowded for the St Patrick's Day Festival and full of the usual overpriced outlets. Not a lot of shade, either. Nice waterfalls and I like the Olympic area.
kim murray
I like all the new bars and restaurants that have opened up here. They closed the homeless shelter that was next door and has made the Gateway a much better place to visit. Nothing against the homeless but the ones who were on drugs used to cause a lot of problems here and even forced businesses to close.
Miko Da Sinner
The Gateway is always been kind of fun but never really over the top for one reason or another now he's getting a really nice face lift good programming all around good place to be with family it's nice thanks Salt Lake City
Lyndsay Anderson
The Gateway always has new features, or something enjoyable it seems when I come out. A nice place to hang out and grab dinner before going to Vivint.
Jennessa Kapp
Nice, clean, good parking for events at vivint
Kallie Vest
Really fun place to shop and dine.
Jocelyn Ortiz
Great place to walk around and have a good time 😎 …
Marci Williams
Used to be such a fun place to go to. A lot of shops are closed now
Luis Hernandez
Literally always a fun place to visit. Specially now that they started to have the movies out on the grass every Wednesdays. The new updates are also so much nicer then they were before.
Literally always such a great place now and can't wait to see what more they're going to do with the place.

You can't get anything to eat in the movie or outside in the display area, but I understand.... Actually I can see that it's hard to keep up with when it's full of people. I'd rather have it clean at the movies and from what I've seen, they keep the rooms very clean and they use social distancing and masks. It's very nice there and we are sure happy we got passes!
They have allot of new displays which are just being opened up and great movies and lazer shows!
Danny Ho
Love this place! Newly renovated with many good restaurants and Nomi Donuts. Try it out because it is not your every day ordinary donuts!
John Kunz
The gateway is an awesome place for shopping and fun. Went to the Fourth of July festival there and there were so many people enjoying the music the food and ultimately the fireworks such great fun. Housing and everything is right around there. Definitely recommend stopping there
Andreas Ritter
Visited the space museum. I learn something new every time. Unfortunately, the place was packed with people.
Jake Wangsgaard
It's so sad to see all the empty store fronts! This is a really beautiful place and I can imagine how great it would be to have life brought back to it! This is still a fun place to walk around though and watch the fountain or smell the flowers!
Nicolas Zanni Morales
This place is perfect for dates, because you can walk and talk with your date. Well my friend told me that, I should apply it 😋😋😋 …
Robert Garff
As Trolley Square goes downhill, this place gets better. I hadn't been here in over 15 years, and have now driven down 3 separate times in less than 2 weeks. Highly impressed.
Craig Casper
So Google maps asked me to review The Gateway.
What used to be the flagship shopping center for downtown salt lake has fallen into a line of empty storefronts and a half working fountain, and broken bathroom stalls.
That said, the stores that are there are mostly local shops with a lot of fun things. I recommend coming down and seeing the current Gateway.
There are plenty of food options... Oh, and they don't charge you to park for Jazz games!
Taylor Thomas
Very clean and beautiful. Great history in the Rail House and a beautiful plaza that's great to spend a while in. Big plus: the general music should have fairly wide appeal, and the soda shop is still open (05/2021)!!
Miss Smith
Used to be the main hub but doesn’t have the stores or conveniences it used to!
Brenna Bear
Definitely an attraction, good place to spend the day with the family. The water fountain is a good spot to let the kids run through the water on a hot day. Would recommend visiting the candy and soda pop store they have!!
Colten Manns
What else is there to say it's a large outdoor strip mall with a theater and plenty of shops including high-end luxury stores.
Karen Perez Garcia
It is a good place for shopping and enjoy. It's outdoors so that's pretty fun!!!
German Rodriguez
Many options to eat after the game, great family places
Alexander Fellman
I found this shopping center a bit grim, I'm afraid. Some of this can't be helped. The Gateway is located on the same street as, and just north of, one of the city's largest homeless encampments as well as a Saint Vincent de Paul center. And that's fine.
No, really, it is. I don't object particularly to the location or to the presence of unfortunates.
What I do partially object to is the heavy apparent focus on artisan and upscale shopping in a neighborhood that seems undeserved in general. Perhaps it's because of the nearby presence of City Creek, about a mile away, but the only shop that seems worth more than just a quick glance for most people is The Store, a supermarket that sells a number of local Utah products but also seems fairly upscale in its presentation. I may also just be slightly out of touch on Utah in general, preferring as I do not to drive. So people may feel less undeserved in the community than I would as a New Yorker.
The project feels, unfortunately, a little misguided to me, and a review is a matter of opinion, not fact.
What's possibly more important is the number of empty stores and storefronts. That's not the fault of the management, but it doesn't make for a particularly interesting or pleasant visit.
To end on a positive, during the winter of 2020/2021 they made use of their space to host the farmer's market.
lauren
Was really cool and unique. The art installations were super fun. Wish there were more stores.
Sydney Germaine-AhSam
Lots to do. Very nice setting for some family fun
Patrick Harding
The actual location is beautiful, there just seems to be a lack of shops. Lots of empty store fronts. Dining choices are amazing.
Nathon Boyle
Fun times await to rent these electric scooters, perfect if you have a day to waste
Autumn Miller
Love this place! Such a fun atmosphere, well maintained and easy parking.
Stephanie Nelson
It is harder to find address than it should be, but I do love this place! :)
Nightpigeon
I absolutely love this place my favorite place is in salt lake are all located here. My favorite restaurant Tucanos and the Clark planetarium which are connected in the same parking garage as well as the awesome water fountain with the Cinemark theater a place for everyone
Lauren Brewer
If you haven't been to this mall recently... Change that! They have made SO many improvements. The entire mall is more of a interactive art exhibition, than a shopping center; or at least it will feel that way with how much fun you'll be having! :) Now, that may be a rather presumptuous statement to make, hear me out!
A huge movie theater, fountains you can play in, a WIDE range of outdoor events and concerts, a childrens discovery museum, Dave n' busters, GREAT planetarium... phenomenal comedy club, unique restaurants, and a grocery with so much personality! I could keep going.. Rocket fizz(For silly fun and crazy beverages), Candied apples @Rocky Mountain Chocolate, Dreamscapes!(Which is an out of this world sensory experience), Art galleries that showcase ALOT of Utah's amazing artists. The entire landscape of the mall is art. And there is still SO much room to grow.
( It's also a great place to Park when parking in the city gets tight. ;D )
I love love this Mall! I've made so many awesome memories here.
Sean Blair
Go to hallpass! The best concept for a restaurant I've ever seen. If you can't find something you like here then just stay home! Lol. They have five restaurants under one roof and the best brunch on the weekends.. and an awesome bar.
Luna Pig
Pretty empty. Hope they can revive it
Cassalee Insanity
I take a walk around here every single night. It's peaceful and quiet and just the right amount of lights at night to make quite the scenery. Also, the security team that runs around make you feel safe at night too. They have done so much to gateway now, I feel as if I see something I didn't before every night.
Michael Strathman
Great outdoor food court and entertainment hub. A little sleepy but that means no lines. One of my favorites, Dreams capes, will be moving in late Nov 2021 so get there soon!
Becky Litster
Many different shops to find unique ideas for gifts plus an awesome ice cream taco dessert place there
Amelia “Millie” Heiner
Love attending the summer community events like weekly movies on the Plaza! Parking available in north garage but slow to get out afterwards
Ariel Legault
Parked in North parking for an event at Vivint arena, worked well for us!
Steven Losee
New year 2021@ the gateway! love the fireworks show. Thank you God!
Jelani DeSsaso
The gateway isn't like it use to be. There's no stores there anymore. Very dissatisfied
Jordan Hiltunen
Very walking friendly place with lots of businesses. It was a great place to kill time before my flight out.
Corey Tenney
Really happy with it now.. Keep out the homeless, get some more cool merchant's back. Get the fountain going better.. Like back in 2002!
Vee L
We were there for the Afa Ahloo spring/summer Fashion show and it was amaze. They had valet parking which was awesome. Clean
Sheila Angerhofer
Just passing through but it had great energy.
Jessica Neumann (Utah's Local Expert)
Wish that this place had more visitors. Even the parking was nice.
Megan Boren
We went on the one day a year that it does free admission and it was packed! But still very fun! The bee room is such a blast and the water works and the little "village" behind it were so fun. Kept our kids of many ages entertained for hours!!! The Lego area and the helicopter outside were my kids particular favorites! Lots to do and entertain young minds! I believe they do parties as well.
Joshua Gilbert
Hallpass is a great place to go before a game or heading over to Dave and Busters! Love to see the Gateway thriving again! Love all the vintage markets they do throughout the seasons.
Eain Goslin
Really cool area with tons of fun stuff to do. A lot of areas to take cool photos. I recommend going to the soda and candy shop in the plaza, it has really good cherry soda.
Shari Britton
Get cucumber ale and add a shot of tequila. Queso nachos great!!! So are the pork tacos!!! Go and enjoy like us.
Sam Espinosa
Pretty cool place to visit. There’s lots of good places to eat.
Kamie
Parking is annoying, entrances need to be labeled better. We walked all the way around the building when there was an entrance to multiple stores through the parking garage. Maybe its our bad, but we also didn't see any sort of map/signs!
Katherine Dwyer
Beautiful art displayed every where , across from a sweet shop there is a wall that states"Before I die" you fill in the blank with chalk, bring your own* it's entertaining to read what others have written. Bathrooms are NOT readily available, unless you trouble a business that is still open after 9pm? Big fountain with inset lights and sporadic water sprays, very nice. Great place to walk around and enjoy.

Oh my goodness you have no idea how much this place helped me. I’ve had a rough life… Growing up as someone who is so much better than everyone else at basketball can be really tough at times. Everyone’s always like, hey man stop Dunkin all over us please. Or they’ll be like, hey man you can’t play above the rim, that’s no fair. But I’ve never been treated like that while at the Gateway. They appreciate and respect and allow me to be who I am, a Baller!
Heidi allen
Great place to walk around. Beautiful
David Jones
Such an aesthetic area to walk through. Love it.
NathanElizabeth Chamberlin
So much fun @ the discovery childrens museum they have a little maceys grocery, a ball tubing to go everywhere, water play, and lots lots more!
Rachel Richards
There are some really great restaurants here and parking is great. Not much shopping but what is there is great! It's a fun and family friendly place. It's a great place to have a lazy afternoon or a chill evening.
Aaron Warren
For kids and night people, it's a great place. Not enough venders. Get those spaces filled, I can give it a 5 star
Jennifer Griggs
Love this place! Cool shops, lots to do:. The Clark Planetarium, Children's Museum, Dave and Busters, bars, great restaurants, swings, fountains, lots of outdoor seating for lunch or coffee
It's become one of my favorite places to hang.
Joshua Aird
Definitely not the mall that it used to be back in my teenage years. But they've done a decent job of keeping it alive and doing some new and innovative thanks for it. It's definitely clean and safe and all and all pretty good. The parking is also convenient and easy to handle. I only wish they maybe had more restaurants and stores.
Douglas Turner
Pretty nice outdoor mall. Feels a little mormon tbh
Taylor Lamb (Be Light Candle Co)
The gateway has a somewhat interesting history.
It was developed pre City Creek mall being build and a lot of the stores ended up moving over there, which was unfortunate.
FORTUNATELY they have kept it up and even the some stores or restaurants have changed.. I would say hardly any of the restaurants changed.
OH, the best place to go to is Momi. It is Asian donuts and they don’t use wheat (gluten) they use rice flower, how cool!!!
I support the gateway and love that they are always open to having weekend events. Having the sprinklers in the middle makes it way fun for kids.
JECANFIELD
Interesting place to shop and eat. It's quite spread out so wear comfortable shoes. Chedda Burger is good and caught Chad Prather's show at Wise Guys.
Brent Lyman
They've made a lot of improvements to this strip mall such as the fountains--great for the kids to play in--and the heaters and fire pits for cold weather etc. Also there's a fair number of quality restaurants to choose from. The section through the middle makes you feel like you're walking through a park complete with beautiful trees and a meandering stream! The theater is nice here and there's plenty of shopping options as well, or if you prefer window shopping and other free or cheap entertainment such as Clark Planetarium.
Reva Cork
Cool place, but parking is a nightmare. I highly recommend either public transit (very nice) or a lyft / uber. Good seafood at Hallpass, some art galleries. There's a street corner with some wing graphiti that's worth taking a selfie in front of.
Angie Stone
I had a blast coming here with my sister and her kids. The children ran around the water fountains and had a wonderful time. I was impressed by the variety of seating options and how comfortable and beautiful it was. After the kids were done we stopped in this awesome candy and soda shop for treats. I can't wait to bring my kids here to play.
Marisol Rocha
I used to come here all the time when I was little and now it is very sad to see how run down it is. They took out the food court, took out many good stores, and I feel like the stores they have now are alright I guess. It just doesn’t feel like a mall anymore. I found a wonderful new sushi place here but they took it out just recently. I bet it is hard for them to be competing with City Creek but still it used to be so much more lively, bright, and new.
Janal Trutna
Clark planetarium was awesome! Great field trip for elementary students. Paid Parking was a bummer.
Cheryl K. Hadlock-Bunnell
It's sad that most places in S.L.C. are closed on Sunday. It was like a ghost town. I guess its changed with COVID-19
Trudy Lawler
I love the beef hotdogs I go just to eat the beef hotdogs
Martin Erickson
The gateway lost alot of popularity in the past but it is coming back with vengeance! They have been supporting alot of art and that is refreshing.
Frank Kurek
It was nice to get out and see the planetarium.
Chelsey Townsend
The remodel is awesome! They have swings and murals everywhere, movie theater, Dave and busters, planetarium, discovery gateway, and so much more! Great for the family, a date, solo, whatever 😀 …
Sara Lees
Lots of choices. A hot food counter as well.
Spencer Messersmith
It's nice to see that the Gateway is starting to revive its self. Now that the shelter is gone I hope it's less intimidating for people to visit. I loved this mall and still do.
Lori AV
Clean well kept shopping center with lots of art and options for entertainment and dining.
Jeff Dalby
Better experience than in the past, plenty of people and shops. Parking was a cluster due to one of the two exits being closed, and several elevators were out of service.
Florence Free Tours
Nice place to enjoy a nice walk and see the shops...
Monica Mccarthy
Was here for the chalk art festival. Lots of seating , fire pits, water shows, etc. Tons of cool local art stores as well!
Bert Neuman
What a beautiful location, great stores super selection of stores. Very impressive place.
The only downside was the parking. The parking was plentiful but we went on a night when the Utah Jazz and lots of new road construction was happening. The perfect storm of Christmas Shoppers, Utah Jazz game, and Road construction made for slow existing the parking structure. Other than that it was a great location.
Danyon Greymoon
The gateway is a pretty great mall. It feels less expensive than City Creek. The store is are all more in my price range. However what I really like to do at the gateway is hang out. there are a lot more activities here than in other malls like the planetarium or the theater, and the food is amazing! I highly recommend tucanos if you haven't been. The best time of year to visit is the summer, because there's lots of outdoor seating.
Patryk G
I really enjoy the few times I've been here. The artwork in the open areas is amazing, the shops and stores are all top notch and the restaurants are delicious.
The one thing really irks me about this place is parking in the garage. There's only 1 exit for several hundred cars. Huge jams happen any time a movie let's out or an event ends. Park elsewhere!
Erica Dunyon
Fun place to go eat for a field trip 😋 …
rickey rom
It's a hidden gem in salt lake city. Great places to eat outside, lots of places for kids to play around and stay busy while you eat outside. I wish there wasnt so many empty stores though. However it's still a great place to go to!!
Icanteven247
A lot of the shops are closed/empty but it's overall a nice place. I like the new decor and the urban arts gallery is always great to walk through
Anita Huddleston
Great views from the deck.
Matt Lee
This shopping center is almost vacant now that City Creek opened with fancy shops, restaurants and a retractable roof. Gateway is 2000 and late.. still a great place for movies and the planetarium and Discovery museum are top notch! The place just needs to be revitalized.
Amy Winget
Ghost town in The Gateway, so sad, so much wasted space when there are so many construction site's. Too bad people aren't willing to be in The Gateway anymore. I haven't been for years and it is not what I remember at all. It used to be so lively and you could find whatever you wanted at the Gateway....we had to walk blocks for decent food 😢
Michaela Bright
Since the new mall has been built the stores hardly get business which is kinda sad. However they have re vamped the look all around at this mall the seating areas are beautiful and artsy, as well as welcoming. They also have a decent theatre to go watch movies.
Rick Pasler
This is a safe place to bring your family and enjoy a shopping experience.
Kiera
I love this place! I work in the gateway, and I feel like I am here every day for something or another. They have Kombucha on tap, a selective fresh salad bar, and tons of treats!
I feel like everything in this store is good quality with tons of selection. It’s similar to a mini Harmon’s. This store is always well kept, and employees are friendly - worth visiting.
Aubrey Young
gateway is always fun. I love what they've done to the place and decorated it. I love the chairs that light up and the swings and the benches with swings as seats and the see-saws. it's really fun, decorative, and cute. however, there needs to be more shops. there were a lot but they seemed to close down.. more shops would be nice, or just more places to eat. the fountains/splash pad is fun.
Joshalyn Kirkham
They have really done an amazing job cleaning this place up. I love how they have transformed this place and made it so experience focused. it seems to be that they are taking out what's left of the retailers and making it more entertainment and food base. I think this will really compliment City Creek as that mall has more retail and some restaurants. It's also convenient for people who will be going to concerts at the Vivint Arena or at the Depot. I really wouldn't worry too much about feeling unsafe here anymore. There is a lot of security and the place really has a nice atmosphere now. It's great to see so many people visiting Gateway again!
Miles Borcik
It's ok. With City Creek open just a couple blocks away, gateway seems to have lost some attention. There are not very many quality shops for the casual shopper. Occasionally they will have an event going on there that tries to attract attention.
Negative side there seems to be several loiters and doesn't feel safe at times.
Peter Muscarello
I love the gateway! It's less of a shopping mall and more of an events venue these days. There's some cool restaurants, places to just hang out, and the planetarium is so cool for being free!
Shay Lee
This poor mall needs you. I enjoy going here. Not to crowded. Cool architecture and great art throughout. Kids love the massive fountain and great seating area. Check out the cool train station too while you are there. Clark planetarium and discovery museum will entertain your family all day and some too.
Tico3131
Outdoor mall. About seven miles from the airport. You can take the tram from the airport and walk a short distance. Variety of food shops. Food was good.
Brittanie Smith
I know some people may think that the Gateway is old news but I just want to say that they have upped their game by a lot. There’s new shops going in all the time. They have new restaurants and they are setting up a fun atmosphere there with food trucks at lunch time and outdoor seating. It’s a great place to take the family and hang out or go to a movie or visit the new shops.
Pamela Riddle
Our initial destination was we went to get Starbucks for a friend when we couldn't find it after we scoured the whole entire mall we did run into the Red iguana , amazing I personally haven't been there in so long yet I hadn't been to this one I've been to the one on North Temple and I haven't been to number two . My significant other was very Satisfied with our meal and it was worth every penny.
So number 2 Red iguana here we come.
Sarah Sanderson
We were there for a company party and it was a night to remember.
Shae Ebell
There's so much to do at the gateway the whole family always has a good time
Traveling Foodie
Massive mall with a variety of restaurants, shops, etc. A ton of parking. Make sure to follow your gps if you are trying to get to a specific place. You can easily get lost and this place gets crowded quick.
Kerry Moore
Love this outdoor mall! Sad to see it suffer because of City Creek and homeless issues. Glad to see that a new organization has purchased the place and is renovating it. Some long timers (stores, movie theatre and eating establishments) are still there.
Steven manley
Place was awesome. Go see have fun. Thank me later
David Iverson
I've always loved going to the Gateway. We visit the Planetarium, The Megaplex and several restaurants in the area. Lots of great things to see and just be downtown now and then.
Emily Bunch (Shorty)
Went to Sweet Rolled Tacos And It Was Yummy!
Daniel
Cool outdoor area with good food and fun options.
Rated Media
Always good vibes.checked out the Planetarium with kids it was cool. My kids went here before me on there school field trip. And it reminds me of when I went on a field trip to the older Planetarium across the street from old zcmi
MC Molu
Nice but quiet calm. Not crowded at all. Children love the fountain.
Josh
This is a beautiful outdoor mall, but it's kind of losing popularity due to another mall being built.
Joseph Belmonte
Basically there are no stores there anymore. A graveyard of empty store fronts.
