Reviews of Downtown Santa Monica
Really enjoy this place. Visited about 2 years ago and it’s much better with things slowly opening back up. Very inviting and get to see so many shops and restaurants.
The atmosphere was nice for a walk. The people all seemed to be having a good time and there was plenty to just look at. And the birds seemed to be enjoying themselves as well lol It was great to grab a funnel cake and sit on a bench and enjoy the view
Enjoyed the location, scenery, and food. Parking can be a pain and the food was a bit pricey for what you got but if you don’t mind it’s not bad by any means. Overall it can be a moderately cheap time or very expensive depending on how you decide to go about it.
Downtown has a nice vibe. The streets are clean and there are very few homeless people.
The city has done a good job to make carparks available at an affordable price so it is easy to come and visit.
There is an okay selection of restaurants, most are more toward high end price points. Some more work could be done to encourage more casual eateries in the area and some more work is needed to make Third street more lively.
Another area for improvement is to make third street more inviting by having more spaces for people to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Currently there are a few scattered chairs, or the concrete benches where the water fountains are. This does not make for the most pedestrian friendly atmosphere.
The Pier was so exciting. People everywhere, smiling, lights -- crowds it was really a fun place. I sat there and had a drink and watch the people, in the bar they did karaoke. My family went on a walk to the pier and loved every minute of it
Beautiful place. There is a good and not expensive parking garage not far from the pier and the beach. First 3 hrs free. Many great restaurants.
I love Santa Monica, nice safe clean beach and downtown, always crowded with fantastic native and visitors and tourist that are respectful outstanding outfits they wear fashionable men women boys girls kids and babies are pleasant and having fun best time of our lives,,,, God bless Santa Monica police for our safety and bless the life guards watch out for us and bless the vendors for their best services. A place can't describe unless seen by yourself.
This was an amazing place to tour! Atlantic city to the Nth degree! The pier was worth all of this experience. Food trucks galore. Great pictures. Fantastic people watching. Go here. It is a free fantastic experience. The view alone is worth it!!!
we travel Santa Monica off-season and weekdays and is still beautiful. Oh I forgot mention Christmastime. Beautiful surrounding of Christmas lights, Christmas decorations open restaurants and bars just you have to go there to see it.
I loved Santa Monica. Totally worth the visit. One hour away from Los Angeles. So many things to do. You have to visit the board. But the center of the city is also very beautiful with a great vibe
We stayed here as a part of our Route 66 tour.
Lots going on and busy.
Still felt safe, lots of places for food and drink.
Also met Ian Bowen at the Route 66 kiosk, he is the guy who got the Route 66 sigh put up to signify the Route. He's the man who knows...
Loved it! Walking distance from restaurants of whatever you're craving, walking to the beach and pier. It's a great weekend trip.
It’s really nice place to walk around. Tip: don’t waste your time in the shopping mall the street is much nicer and hace more stores. Follow me for more tips is LA
It’s just like in the movies ⭐️ It’s a fun time to just walk the pier, take a ride or two on the roller coaster and walk 3rd street promenade and peruse the shops.
One of my favorite places on the west side to hang out, day or night! Shops, movies, food, drinks and street performers provide plenty of entertainment and a great getaway experience.
There're many stores to visit and you will be walking for a few minutes, so it's good to know that most of the stores don't have a washroom, but you will be able to find public washrooms in the small streets in the back of the stores ;)
Small-town feel directly along the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) with direct beach access to the Pacific Ocean ... and the famous Santa Monica Pier
We stayed right in the heart of Santa Monica a block from main st and couldn't have asked for a better location in LA to stay. The people are extremely friendly, the food was incredible, and a lot of great places to shop.
Visiting from Hawaii this is one of my new favorite spots! So much to see and so much to do very happy environment, live music, shops, restaurants and bars! I definitely recommend coming here to have a good time and great spot for family and friends to enjoy!
Every weekend we go to downtown Santa Monica. This place is our favorite place in Socal. It's nice place to hangout with lot's of stores and restaurants.
One of my favorite places to go to walk. The beach is in walking distance to downtown. There is rides on the pier.
Cool place to visit. Lots of shops & lots to see. There's a few tattoo shops around & food spots as well.
Santa Monica downtown is an icon of the West Los Angeles. If you are in the mood for great food, shopping, gorgeous views of the ocean, a stroll on a pier, or a dip in the ocean, then Santa Monica is your place. The pandemic has caused a few places to close their doors, however, this place still has tons to offer. So drive down or take the expo line and come experience this gem for yourself!
A dynamic and entertaining experience. From the promenade to the pier- culture in the form of street performers and dozens of food carts. Very well manicured and heavily patrolled. All of these factors combined on a beautiful day became a world-class experience.
Very colorful and classic CA - beach and pier with lots of shops and restaurants. Beautiful place to stroll, enjoy the food/culture, and see the views.
I love Santa Monica Pier! Always full of life and positive vibes!
Nice. First visited this place twenty years ago... Feels the same, however I am taking one star for some of the issues affecting big cities nowadays.....
Third street promenade has been redone to be more welcoming to visitors. They’ve added an all-weather oversize chess board and pieces available for public play on the Santa Monica 3rd Street Promenade. White queen is partially broken but taped back together.
Superbowl weekend is on at 3rd Street Promanade in Downtown Santa Monica. Bring your game hats because they got it going on!!!! Rams & Bengals fun..fun..fun!!! Lots of games, free stuff and fun!! Friday, Saturday...really check them out!!!
Nice place, bustling with people. Lots of parking on offer from 10 to 15 and up... closed to the beach you get the higher the price.
We were having dinner over looking the beach... so valet for $17 plus tip of $3 was a great deal in my mind.
Looks like they are getting rid of the homeless. It was nice not being bothered or having to walk around their "homes" on the sidewalk. Not blaming the police as I know they have their hands tied when it comes to making them move from in front of businesses. But, the city leaders really need to wake up and let the police enforce the laws and stop cow toeing to the extremists. No pictures sadly because I didn't want to have my phone or camera out, so I would become a victim.
Whenever I have a friend visit, I take them here. There is plenty to do- whether they want to look at the ocean, shop, get coffee, dinner, drinks, or catch a movie. There is everything here and it's super walkable. You also get the street performers that are sometimes fun to watch. Walk around a bit and peek into places and I'm sure you'll find an easy way to spend an afternoon.
I've been coming here since I was a baby. It has great childhood memories. I love the beautiful environment. There are so many good restaurants and stores to shop. Then go to the beach after. Perfect place
Really cool experience. The family had a great time. The restaurants and shops are a little on the expensive side. This is a place where you have to pay to park your vehicle somewhere and you walk everywhere else. It's more of an experience than a place you go to do something "quick"
Always love to stroll in downtown Santa Monica. A relaxed and nice place for pedestrians with shops around.
Good selection of shops and restaurants that skew toward higher price points. Plan to pay for parking either on the street or in a garage/lot. It is peppered with homeless people. Most of them are harmless, but I would not recommend walking around alone after dark when it's not crowded.
There are so many shops and stores to go in, you'll easily find somewhere to spend your money. I
They've got some nice restaurants there, Cheesecake Factory and Curious Palate. I even had my picture taken with Santa over the holidays there at Santa Monica place. Really a great place to visit with friends or family.
It's a beautiful street filled with all the amazing and top-notch brands for shopping. Also, you can find some brands with a cheaper value too. A must visit if you are near Santa Monica pier.
Very empty. Might be time of day. Seems like area is not succeeding. Many empty or vacant stores. Maybe nightlife is better. Some good resturants. Notices heavy police car presence. Will try another area.
I love downtown SM area. I feel like if I'm traveling abroad and always in vacation with so many international visitors. It's safe - security is everywhere. Plenty of shops and street artists.
Just the right spot to get those SoCal beach vibes you might be looking for. The Santa Monica Pier is a great spot if you're looking for a little tourism. Go exploring to find awesome graffiti art & the other less wholesome yet interesting aspects of the area.
Lots of shops , dining places , restaurants. cool spots.
We have enjoyed the walks through Downtown. Lot of street musicians and people dancing. It's a pity though, seeing so many homeless people. They seem to mind their own business but there are too many and the smell isn't always pleasant.
Great place to go shopping and relaxing!
They have most of the common shopping stores, they also have great restaurants with a variety of options.
It's in the open so it’s always nice to get some fresh air unlike majority of malls!
Didn’t see any street performance that usually they have, but it’s expected due to COVID and of course lack of tourism!
Beautiful place for a night out. Catch a sunset at one of the many west facing restaurants.
One of the most fun downtown experiences ever! Live music, games to play, restaurants, shops, and riding around on the Lyft scooters is so super fun!! Oh yeah and there's that Ocean and Pier too!
Late post: See the water, then spend the rest of the day here. Afternoons and evenings may also be a good idea. Lots to see, lots to buy, lots to eat. Might be better to start at the Wilshire side, then end at Santa Monica Place (Broadway/Colorado ave)
Beautiful beach and the walk along boardwalk was excellent
Great ambiance and place to walk around and do some shopping. Lots of cool restaurants to try. Only thing I would change is the homeless people walking/sleeping around the area. Love that there was live music at night and people dancing 💃🏻 …
I couldn’t be happier with the service I have received with Santa Monica kochin branch. They have a deep understanding of their craft and have done a great job communicating with me through the entire process. I have been assisted by Ambily k mam and clearly got the result . I recommend this agency to anyone looking to study abroad. Thanks Santa Monica
I'll tell you I feel like Santa Monica has done a really good job of creating parking for people that is very accessible to different areas of the downtown and beaches. You can easily just Google parking lots downtown Santa Monica and every single one will come up for you to choose from. There's even parking across from the expensive hotels on Ocean avenue.
Absolutely love walking around promenade in downtown Santa Monica.
What a fun day! Looking for a decide as you go sort of day? Santa Monica is a great place for that!
It is lined with variety of stores- even a mall to explore! Also, there are rental scooters if you want to use them.
Granted, it always gets busy! No doubt about that, but it's still worth it. Get there early or go midweek to manage the parking shortage that can often occur.
Also, you can walk the pier, beach, or through the park!
For the best experience and to see the a lot street and others activities, you need to go on a Friday or Saturday night. The street really comes to like around 9pm. There is no shortage of good restaurants on the street, but the atmosphere is what makes it special.
The high numbers of homeless was heartbreaking. I had never experienced homeless actually digging through trash cans and finding drinks, food and cigarettes. It put a damper on our visit. There needs to be a better solution.
Was there by 9am.. it was 4 of Us for breakfast..first time will not be back Service was horrible. By the time I paid the bill there were items we never got; asked numerous times but nothing..
Temporary Friends (LEGO) Exhibit I was glad to have visited. 3rd Street Promenade always does not disappoint, there was many sights and deals. Looking forward to returning to stay there longer and to see more of what the area has to offer. Good place to take out of town or country guests.
Just ok. They're tons of homeless people everywhere. Location is good. restaurants are very pricey for no reason cause they're not even fancy. Not impressed at all.
We stopped at Mel’s dinner for Sunday brunch
Santa Monica is lovely anytime of the year. The 3rd street promenade is nice to walk along. Beautiful pier with tons of attractions and spectacular views. There are a lot of nice shops and restaurants around. Very well connected with the rail.
Always a pleasure -- one of the most charming places to be in the world. I love to stroll up and down the beach paths and enjoy the ocean views. Santa Monica offers lovely shopping and perfect restaurants for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Enjoy :)
Most of tourist should visit Santa Monica
The Night begins early and you can enjoy Food and music
Or just walk and have Fun with friends
Lively and diverse place where you can see a lot of people, shops, and interesting establishments. Accessible by public transport with parking buildings to accommodate visitors with their own cars. You can encounter great public performers along 3rd St as well. On top of hsving good weather, the streets are clean and neat, making your walk around the places quite enjoyable.
This is a nice place to visit with family and friends, there are many options to eat different kind of food. There are shops of all kinds too, there are cinemas, spas, ice cream and much more. Ideal for walks and drinks. Sometimes there are shows on the streets, fun decorations and even read your hand to know your future.
Nice place but the ocean smells like my old tackle box
Downtown Santa Monica is still a fun place to hang out at. It’s got those classic vibes that brings people to Los Angeles. The restaurants are all open many of them do ask for Vaccination cards, but the general walk area is w/ or w/o.
We enjoyed our visit. we like the Pier and Bubba Gumps seafood.
A great pedestrianised shopping area with a wide range of shops. The outdoor cafes and buskers add a nice vibe to the place.
It was busy and crowded in Dec 2021 and looks like people start to travel and everyone busy shopping and dining . Love the place and and many street performer and music.
Great place to hang out. Play chess on a big chess set or just watch the sunset
They gave high end stores, restaurants, trendy bars, shopping for shoes, clothes and books - I can go on and on. I would ditch from UCLA and be roaming around the promenade. Great place for dates, family outings, shopping and dining. And did I say Dining !! True Food and Cabo Cantina were my favorites. I tried others but nope! But so many spots to go!!
It's a nice place with a lot of stores and restaurants you can have some time here.
Downtown Santa Monica is a cool spot to visit. It was pretty busy on the Sunday that I was there There are many shops, bars and restaurants. Great place to hang out with friends or family. You have the beautiful beach nearby as well. Was able to find parking in a garage for $10. Definitely a spot to be cautious and pay attention to your surroundings though.
Fantastic happening place in downtown (if you call it that, certainly a fun place but no “downtown” vibes)
Visited here around Aug 2019, and the best weather to go around Venice beach, then Santa Monica pier and then spent the night here
Just stroll around for 15-30 mins, see what’s going around - lots of roadside shows and things going on - so don’t miss it
and Definitely some places around the side - check any you like - I personally loved the one by ocean ride, forgot the name
It's great! Very lively, especially at night! There are tons of places to eat and shop. Promenade street is really nice. Especially at night lit up. Would definitely visit again.
A place with sparkling musical ambience,🎶🥁
colorful evening to enjoy with family & friends with variety entertainment of Robots, Magic , shows, weird mimicry, guitar🎸 music etc, etc, greatest joyous ambience to charge your spirits & senses my for happy evening. Must Spend as much time as you can. WOW place to be
One of my favorite places to be on this planet. The vibes are immaculate. The only messed up thing is the homeless people who scare me a little.
Beautiful, peaceful and you will find a lot os stores if you want to shopping, there a lot of restaurant and in the night has a great illumination, there are some urban artist to, you can be sure it is a safe place I went out to walk at 9 pm and nothing happened.
Great wandering experience with tons of shops to look at, and lots of shopping and people watching to do. People are for the most part friendly there, with lots of street entertainers as well (some more entertaining than others).
Fantastic place to take visiting family, especially if it's a nice day out like it was when we went. If say go when it's about to be sunset so you're not baking in the SoCal sun, you can enjoy the sunset view, and see the promenade at night :)
What's not to love shopping good eats great people all around fun fun and more fun. Clubs bars ice cream side shows. All this with the fresh smell of the ocean and cool breeze encouraging you on...
Put this on your destination list of must go...
#frewil
I was able to make a lot of great memories in this awesome community, I cannot wait for my next visit back. Great food with great people!
A beautiful outdoor shopping mall with three levels and a movie theater on the third floor! I really only briskly walked through, but it was still a very nice looking place with all of the up to date stores people usually visit. All two streets away from the beach.
Visited down town Santa Monica today with our little ones and we had an amazing time.
Even visited Cayton Children's Museum. Lunch is always great at Cheesecake factory 😊👍. Walked on the boardwalk and stopped by Baby Gap. Couldn't ask for more. …
Third Street Promenade is a lovely outdoor strip mall perfectly located just near the Santa Monica Pier and ocean front. Of an evening all of the fairy/party lights come on and has somewhat of a romantic atmosphere about it.
The gardens are manicured well and kept immaculate and there is a wide selection of stores from designers to surf shops, there is something for everyone here. Great for kids as they tend to have little activity areas scattered throughout the walk. And there’s so many eateries to choose from!
Nearby parking is affordable and usually available, I have never not found a parking spot even on the weekends! The only real downside is the public restrooms are few and far between, I walked for about 20 mins trying to find one! Even Starbucks doesn’t have a restroom so more signage would be useful.
Definitely worth a visit if you have time, dusk/early evening is lovely with all of the lights!
Nice to walk down the Santa Monica pier n the downtown, been there yesterday on 28th Sunday 2018, with my son , a very big city, thought the temperature is hot its cool to walk down the streets.. A must have on your bucket list to visit but on week ends its too crowded. There are a giant wheel, roller coaster, merry go round for children , a very big beach, but we just watched it from the roadside n took photos, didn't go down the pier or walked on the beach
Santa Monica downtown is a great place for a long walk, nice run 😅, shopping or eating. I was shopping here and had a breakfast in a coffee shop.
It is not too crowded in the morning. Very clean and cozy downtown with its own atmosphere. …
This is a very nice place to spend one afternoon. Rides , food and beautiful weather makes this one Unforgettable place to visit. If you are staying only a few hours Park in the garages on Colorado Blvd, you will save money.
Great atmosphere, lots of stores to shop at, bikes and scooters can ride on the street in the bike lane and there is a big farmer's market on Saturdays. We loved the sunshine, fresh fruit and live music.
Serenely peaceful, everyone is enjoying themselves, street performers add colours to the ambience, sunset is awesome. This is where you should end the day, the real day being in one of the most western sites in the world
Clean area, good for walking. Good variety of eating options. Ultimately just a shopping area, so up to you if traveling here just for “downtown Santa Monica” is worth it.
This city has a lot of character. People have less of an ego. Now the beauty of the buildings that store owners spend. so much money to erect and beautify in the 2022 style. LoL
Loud, crowded, lots of chain stores. Probably great for families traveling with teenagers who need their Abercrombie fix. Some solid street performers, and definitely people watching. This Midwesterner was ready for a quiet dinner after a day on the promenade.
Loved every bit of downtown! The beach was beautiful, the sun was shinning, the sunset was amazing and the views from the pier were perfect.
This was so cool! So many things to see and do. Definitely need a day. Street performers food music and minutes from the beach and pier Definitely going back
So well LIT..so much energy..such a positive vibe..happy people..theres dancers, musicians, artists, etc. engaging the crowd and pulling them close with their specialities and skills.
May the Lord help you end your shopping spree here.. (you cannot stop until you're broke!!)
The Laemmle Theater was cool, but the flat parking lot on the corner near it is really pretty expensive. I was surprised. I'd looked online at the price of the parking in the structure across the street from the theater, and that didn't seem too expensive. So, I will try parking in that structure the next time that I go there.
Nice, clean open space, perfect for walking your dog. I love the view. Lot's of name brands, and street entertainment. The only issue is parking, however there is a cheap public parking near by, and seems pretty safe. Good to walk around with the family or significant other.
Always fun to get out to 3rd and Promenade! Love the different people it attracts! Love all the stores it has ! Lots to see here ! Went out for my nephews birthday and had a good time !!
I can't believe it . It's pretty cool and I'll have to agree Santa Monica checks out in my book. I've gotta go again for sure, real soon while it's perfect enough weather, and the beach scene is always the best too.
Mostly restaurants. That's pretty much the same everywhere. Great farmers' market. Near the transit center. We took buses. Try selling that idea to tourists. Downtown trolley was not running.
I enjoyed it much. Great place to walk and shopping around. Many places to sit. There is public parking lot as well. U wont get lost easily.
I really appreciated the atmosphere of being over here. I traveled from NY and see get that CA sun was great. The shops and peace of mind was warming!
Lots of parking, good food choices. Would definitely check it out! MAKE SURE YOU PUT MONEY IN METERS for street parking they will ticket .
So much fun! A little dirtier and unsafe after sundown than I remember as a child. Wish it was kept up better. We still had fun and made for some beautiful pictures!
Amazing place to take a break from work and the city. Really close to the beach and the famous Santa Monica Pier. Your favorite stores all in one place. Bus or train can get you here like the Metro Expo Line to Downtown Santa Monica or Buses like 733, 33, 720, 20, R7 2, 1 and more.
Great restaurants and unique shops. Found parking easy and we saw a great jazz show at Santa Monica City College Performing Arts Center.
Sooooo awesome of a place to visit. Between the beach, the water, and the people there’s ton to watch. The pier is stunning and filled with different vendors. There is also a little carnival type space. There are a few restaurants of you want to grab a bite to eat or a quick drink. There’s also a lot of people fishing off of the pier.
Be prepared to see lots of homeless people walking toward the pier. No issues with any of them, it’s just kind of sad.
It was a interesting experience, we saw some people protesting but supportive what the Armenians were there for, I just hope everything turn out for the good at the end, I know in a lot of countries people are suffering, I just wish everyone lived a good life but that's just wishful thinking sadly. 🙏 …
From Adelaide Australia.
Its nice and vibrant down at Santa Monica with good beach and good bars. It not far from shopping street also.
Just dont be out after dark. A lot of homless and sketchy people around!
It was the perfect place to enjoy sunset, food and drinks, theme park, street performance, beach, altogether at once. Very big parking lot so you don't have to worry about where to park. A lot of food choices. Very breezy at the afternoon and beautiful during sunset and quite crowded
Great place to walk, people watch and simply enjoy. The parking is reasonable.
A little bit to crowded with tourists for me. But if you don't mind that its dry nice.
Tipp: Wait until the sun sets, the scenery with the Pier rides in the foreground and the sun over the ocean is beautiful.
I recently shopped at All Saints and I was pleasantly surprised I found a beautiful satin silk dress with lace trim and they always have beautiful coats in the windows Bath & Body Works is also a heavy hitter in my calendar
Nice holiday vibe. Well lit. There was an open dance class happening as well. During weekdays almost everything closes around 9 pm.
Lots to do. Fairly clean. Love the rides. A lot of fun. Great date night.
I only gave 4 stars because Santa Monica is amazingly beautiful.
This, is another shopping center (mall like theme) that you can find from the usual clothing brands up to Tesla's car.
My gf and I go to 3rd St sometimes at night just to get out of the house and walk around and get some fresh air. It has always felt like a safe place
Excellent place to visit, there are plenty of restaurants and things to do in the area.
Everything is accessible with electric scooters and bicicles and there are a lot of activities by the pier as well as surrounding it, you will need at least a couple days in the area to fully explore everything Santa Monica has to offer.
Always the best place to hang out early afternoon and evenings when the weather is nice. Dozens of trendy shops, high end stores, cool little diners and cafés. Gorgeous beach views.
No better place in the whole LA area ! The sea view is fantastic and the small restaurants in the area are spectacular
Perfect weather and lots of stuff to do.
Awesome place to find cool clothing. Usually, it is crowded with rich people, hobos, supercars, and street performers. Regardless if you come early or late, there will be no parking and it will be crowded.
I am always happy to be here. Very good starting point for short trips to Downtown or Hollywood. Excellent public transport. There are many opportunities to shop or relax.
The Best place on the Westside!! From BOA to STK to McDonald's you will find everything down here!!! There's an REI for camping equipment and even a foot locker. Starbucks and bars galore help for any occasion. There is a huge homeless presence down here but if you mind your business they leave you alone. The 3rd street promenade connects at Main Street and is great if you don't mind walking.
City hall lights up at night and Main Street is the main vein for party life. I advise walking the entire mile and a half towards Abbott Kinney. Shops and cafes are limitless. Urth Cafe is good too.
Take plenty of pictures!!!
They manage to keep the area quite clean and welcoming. Wide variety of stores and restaurants. Nice fountains and music.
Great place for tourists and locals...
In our visit to Santa Mónica, we stayed at the Hampton inn. Gour blocks awsy from thd pier. Down town looks good, but there are many homeless and there is a huge urine smell.
Nice place with good energy and place to take a coffee. You can go take a nice walk and watch the Friends Lego exhibition.
Fun vibe and good shopping and food.
I have been going to Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica Place, and downtown Santa Monica for most of my adult life. It has gained enormously in popularity since the addition of the LA Metro Expo Line connecting downtown Los Angeles to downtown Santa Monica. Santa Monica is no longer the sleepy little beach town it used to be. Even over the past five years, it has become a continally bigger urban center that is facing some growing pains lately. The city government is doing its best to keep up with the pace of the growth.
If you are not local to the area, TAKE LA METRO or Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus public transit to and from here. It will save you the headache of driving in traffic every day of the year, even more so during the incredibly popular summer months when over one million people descend on the sandy beaches of Santa Monica and nearby communities daily. It is also very expensive to park in downtown Santa Monica and continuing to rise annually. The closer to the ocean, the higher the rates. Don't kid yourself about finding metered parking or free parking in surrounding neighborhoods. It's far and few between. The city streets are so highly regulated with complex "parking permit only" neighborhoods with even more complex time and day restrictions that it is not worth taking your car. Public transit is the way to get there. Or one of the many ride services available.
Bring a backpack to carry not only your beach needs but also a light jacket or sweater for after 5:00 p.m. when the coastal marine layer will come in and create a fog bank and temperatures 20 degrees F cooler than you would expect.
Once there, there are alot of things to see and do. Walking up and down the five block Third Street Promenade and the newly remodeled Santa Monica Place at the south end of Third Street is great outdoor enjoyment. Be sure to walk on 2nd Street and 4th Street for additional great retail, food, and entertainment experiences. Ocean Avenue is also great. The ever popular Santa Monica Pier is worth the short walk and braving the throngs of people daily that visit it.
I dropped one star because the availability of clean public restrooms is a big issue. Also the overabundance of a very visible and sad reminder that LA County has a homeless population that exceeds the government's ability to handle it. These unfortunate people are everywhere and you will encounter this sad issue no matter where you go.
That said, I would still recommend this area as a "must see" whether you are local to LA or visiting from abroad!
Downtown Santa Monica California is festive fun and a great all day and all nite place to visit with family, friends, dates and solo!
Lots of parking eating, drinking shopping, walking, people watching and the Pacific Ocean just a few blocks away!

Do not miss the iconic entrance of the Santa Monica Pier. A large double jointed pier, a landmark that is over 100 years old. Electric vehicles, cycles, skateboards are all available for rent. Finding a parking will be a big ask, costs $20 and above to park your vehicle at the beach.
We visited here on our final day of vacation. This is an extremely touristy destination, with some nice things, and also not so nice things.
Don’t expect to come here on a weekend without traffic. Don’t expect to find parking easily.
Do expect to see thousands of people milling about. Do expect to find good places to eat.
If anything, visit the pier. There’s lots to do out there, and it really is a fun atmosphere.
Santa Monica is still Santa Monica it hasn't changed that much except Zuckey's Historic Deli became a bank😱 how dare you... and they tried to destroy the stores in a NOT peaceful protest last summer... but Santa Monica is lovely 🙋👍🤽 …
There are lots of things to do in Downtown Santa Monica, California. You can get you shopping fix by visiting any of the numerous stores, boutiques, the malls and of course the Third Street Promenade. If you're hungry, you won't be by the time you leave the area. Endless eateries and restaurants will tempt your tummy and satisfy your cravings. Many of the restaurants even feed the homeless upon closing. The area is safe, well patrolled, well maintained. Every time I go to Santa Monica I find new or learn something new about the area.
So much fun to walk to the beach from here after checking out all the fun shops. They have everything including Rip Curl! There are lots of people so double masking might be a good idea!
It gets no better. Trendy and very fashionable "it" place. Big for tourists and the locals alike. Great food, shopping and sights!
This was very fun to go to. I recommend going here, not alone but with at least a friend. Pretty loud too yet very much interesting stuff to find. pretty expensive though but i didn't mind. The beach is very calming yet busy at the day. The rides there were closed but was told before they were open. Very beautiful sight to see at night or sun set.
One of the best tourist destination in Santa Monica, there many restaurants and coffee shops, it’s start with very nice shopping mall with many good brands so you can shopping , walking, watching the people go and back!!
Great and beautiful place to visit. Many things to do.... very good restaurants...
It was really nice to visit, I enjoyed my time there, you can find a lot of stores and restaurants around.
Good shopping stores, bars, and events when I come here. Good place to visit if your from out of town.
Lovely beach and some great houses facing the sea! We stayed around Los Angeles airport but took a bus to santa Monica which takes about an hour by bus.
Choice of restaurants are fantastic and love the laid back attitude of the town.
If you are in Los Angeles and like sun n sand, this is a good beach to visit.
A great place for shopping too with thousands of outlets close to the beach
Although a lot of stores closed due to the pandemic still a good place to go.its a good sign to see tourist are back . The seaside cafes and restaurants are packed with people. The parking still an issue in Santa Monica you have to park little further than other places. All in all it a good vibe city. Enjoy .
Santa Monica is beautiful. The beach is clean and the dt is nice. Parking is expensive, in hotels $15 and closer to the beach half price. Good place to be and see.
Santa Monica is a mixture of experiences. It's beautiful, it's chaotic, busy, loud, but non the less it's a classic. The view of the ocean at sunset is breathtaking. Santa Monica Pier is filled with kitschy vendors, overpriced restaurants, thrilling roller-coasters, street performers who range from kooky to interesting to back to kooky, but it is an essential part of LA experience.
All the latest fashions are here.. Both of my parents did their shopping here, now i do my shopping here. I'm not happy shopping any where else. If your life is a fashion show like mine is, Downtown Santa Monica is the place to be.
Very lively and fun during the day but lots of aggressive homeless and beggars at night. My elderly parents and I were harassed and followed by a man demanding money and he was very persistent. They should have security at night, at least until all the shops are closed.
Great for walking with lots of shops and near ocean
The general area covers a nice walking area from third street promenade's north end into the mall itself. You can then cross the street and walk for a couple of blocks to reach Santa Monica Pier and the beaches. It's good for showing visitors from out of town. City parking in the structures are free for the first 90 minutes.
It's obviously a decent place to visit. I am a resident of the city. At this time I would not choose to live anywhere else!
El visa su casa crowded, I only arriver to not weary then shorelines elsewhere. helps IED mistreated by ego. i probably exchanged no endurance to my health symbiotic health to walk at , Cc expelling situations #roe
I have been here couple of times here now and absolutely love the energy here, There's a lot to do from dinning, shopping, street performances to just hanging out or walking around this place or to the beach and Santa Monica Pier.
Beautiful street with a love life, and live music! This probably is beautiful after pandemic! I don’t see the time to come back to see again!
Very nice place. Plenty of shops and eateries. Pretty clean area.
It's really nice to hang out. The only issue is parking . It's difficult to find parking. It reminds me of San Francisco. Cold and a lot of foot traffic.
Well kept city. If you're a smoker you should know smoking is banned from downtown - clean air act. A bit commercialized for my taste. Great night life. Beach is steps away. Homeless issue is evident here as is everywhere else. Public seating is reserved for parks and customers mainly.
Best place to walk, eat and drink. Spectacular!! But $$$$ expensive and no parking are free
Being a tourist - it's exactly what I expected it to be and some more. Many famous sights from films and GTAV that I've seen many times though a TV screen over time.
Even though I can't afford anything in Santa Monica.. the people watching is great. Last time I was there everything was covered in Ash because of the fires. Still there were beautiful people out like is was no big deal that Santa Monica looked like silent Hill.. stay classy Cali!
It's a nice place to go with family and friends. You can only sightsee or buy in the places that are there... I really like it because there are a lot of restaurants to choose what you want
Going every week to Santa Monica, I am perusing beauty stores, Mac store to get new tablets and gizmos. I am in love with this carless street, full of music, and good restaurants to indulge in great meals, and watch people go by. Superb historic landmark theaters. And Nordstrom for clothes. Lovely and close to the Peer
The Ocean Luxury Loft & Suites is located at 107 Broadway in Santa Monica, Ca. It offers full studio style lodging with ample lounging, dining and sleeping space. There is also plenty of things to do right here in the heart of the city. Eating, drinking, walk or ride, bike skate to the beach is my favs. I give this property and the area 4.5. People walking, buses honking and club music bumping makes the noise excessive so only stay if you don't mind being awakened through the night. Enjoy
If rent was not so high this place would be fly . We need local affordable businesses.
That bring something for everyone
Nice place to visit with the family.
The Not bad. Honestly a bit overrated in most spots. 3rd Street Promenade, depending on the night, will live up to the hype. A lot of shopping, more or less the same as many other places in Los Angeles, but worth visiting if for no other reason than the promenade. Beware of the hobo tent park just east of this location, very shady and not somewhere you want to find yourself after the sun has set.
Wonderful place to be. Great shopping and lots of restaurants to choose from. Steps away from the ocean
Ahhhh. Just an ordinary day in downtown Santa Monica. Or is it? In fact I don't think Any day is ordinary around here. The sights, the sounds, the people are different each and every day!! ❤💙💜 Downtown Santa Monica and Third Street are Gems of SoCal! This upscale pedestrian mall has everything from dining, to shopping to the vast entertainers that adorn Downtown Santa Monica! Local Suggestion, ditch the car and hop on a scooter. My faves are Lyft and Lime. You could spend Hours on end, day in and day out exploring All Downtown Santa Monica had to offer on these 2 wheeled speed demons. In fact I got mine up to 15.4 mph! Just hang on, obey the traffic laws, and ride smart!
Other than that, enjoy the Fabulous Weather you can Only find out here in SoCal.
'The Third Street Promenade and Downtown Santa Monica are overseen by Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. Downtown Santa Monica is such a great place to bring a date. There are lots of good restaurants, coffee shops, and places that serve dessert. The street performers are always very talented.
Great city. I feel connected somehow...another life perhaps? 😄 …
Not too bad for all the homeless people. There are smells that don't smell very good but the restaurants and stores keep things clean
Beautiful places and scores of people, tourists, yippies and yuppies, even homeless hippies !! A great way to spend the Weekend with the entire family in tow.
Lively and fun , shopping or dinning , cocktails or beer, the choices are many with street performance from one end to the other. A Doc Martens shoe store for a great pair of Docs and just 2 short blocks to a ocean view of the Santa Monica Pier.
Great beach and lots of things to do on the Pier. There are also plenty of decent meal options. Fun for the whole family, a must visit spot near Los Angeles.
Great holiday lights ‼️ and loved the Saturday night market, I hope they bring it back ‼️
Great restaurants, bars and shops.
Downtown Santa Monica is a variable ghost town of the shuffling feet of the walking dead and Starbucks locations.. the stillness and complete silence is beyond breathtaking... you can literally hear the waves rhythmically crashing from 6th street... there is nothing like it on earth. Well... I mean... Venice Beach is right next to it... but whateves... you can find beauty in everything.. just gotta look.
Amazing! Get lost in art and food every, I said Every weekend!!
Fun place ..Nice view and activities for kids..but to get to the rides u must walk thru sand
Great place to eat out and shop!
awesome summer beach with lots of shops
We parked in one of the public parking structures (number 2) which was easy and not too expensive. The immediate downtown area was pretty dirty and much like any other city really. We used one of the bridges to get over to the beachfront area which was really dirty and smelled of urine with discarded carpet, bottles and other litter everywhere. The beach was nice and clean though and we enjoyed a walk down to the pier after which we walked back along the beach and over the bridge
Just go. Just. Go. As a Johnny Foreigner, downtown Santa Monica never gets old. Eve as we are all dealing with what we are dealing, it is still amazing. And supporting the small vendors doing their thing around the pier. I'll do that. So should you.
Nice and clean area with a lot of restaurants and bars. Prices are on the up side.
Lots of street bands performing
Shops on each side, alot of them have closed down though(Probably due to the pandemic), street spans across three blocks
Great place to visit! Mild ocean breezes... shopping, dinner and the movies in one location. You can take a stroll or window shop and people watch, there are street performers too. The outdoor mall is on the south end with more stores including Bloomingdales, Nordstrom's and a rooftop food court. A walk to the pier and beach is only two short blocks away where more fun awaits. Children friendly or just for a romantic date, take a break and visit here.
Great place to spend a day or whatever time you have. From walk, bike ride to eateries to street performers you will have a great time with family, date or by yourself
Such a lovely place. So much to do for everyone. Wish I could live there and never leave the area!
Fabulous! Very nice and clean. The diagonal cross ❌ walk along with the regular cross the street walk. Extremely interesting. Definitely want to explore more tomorrow!
Recommend
Ambassador Dr. Angela J.( Dr. Coach A.J.) Nealy, B.S., M.S., Ph.D.
A good place to go for a walk and food or just shopping. I recommend the Bruxie good food.
Very clean and well maintained downtown with some shopping stores from designers to retailers like bath and body works.
Variety of restaurants and stores. Super chill hangout zone. Recommend.
Love walking on the beach and it's not as crazy as they make it sound since there is security everywhere you turn to
I loved there. It’s an excellent place to visit and ride a bike through the beach. It’s amazing!!
The place is a must visit if you have never been. During the summer it can get a little crazy but worth it, there is lots of mid tier and high tier shops for any budget. Very clean and safe, there are street performers and are spaced out fairly nice and dont seem intrusive. There is ample parking provided by the city, multiple structures at very reasonable prices.
Excellent view it is a really nice place. The day I went the weather was not so good. I'm more like the person who want to have a really hot weather where in a beach but even that It was nice to be there.
I love the energy in Santa Monica. People are friendly, so many great places to eat, enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery and everyone is active here and it's contagious.
Love the vibes in this place. Like summer all day long. Good place to escape from your daily routine. See the beach, palm tree, enjoy the ice cream and do shopping.
It’s nice to stroll this area in the afternoon. Parking spot is always challenging to find but totally worth it. Nice restaurants, beautiful downtown with enjoyable ambience
Great shopping center with variety of stores especially sports outfits and shoes. It's also a touristy area that means it does get very crowded. It's a great place to people watch, romantic walks, shopping and also entertainment and the beach is very close by.
Visited Santa Monica after a couple of years or more, covid has slammed this place. Activity has picked up but not to the pre-pandemic levels. Quite a few shops are closed. However, mask mandate is still in place and things are looking good. Hopefully it gets better soon.
Santa Monica is a pretty beach city with a few flaws. Great to walk around and do shopping, sit somewhere and watch entertainment or to just stop by for some food with friends. A little pricy, but then again which beach city isn't expensive now a days. Worth the visit if you've never been though.
Update: lots more transients now than ever before. The city is sadly overrun with them and it really takes away from what SM used to be. Don't be surprised to be asked for change at every corner or someone lashing out by themselves. Although nothing major has happened, still watch yourself and your belongings.
Santa Monica downtown is always fun to be there.
They have got lot of variety of food options. Amazing energy
We made a reservation using Google maps, which was very easy. They say it's as soon as we arrived. The service was really good! Or food came out quickly and exactly how we ordered. Everything was delicious.
Yummy 😋 need I say more …
Awesome place to spend quality time with family and loved ones.
Great view and very nice vibe.
Loved the decorations. Nice and clean. A pity all the tents were not open mid-afternoon.
What a fun day! Looking for a decide as you go sort of day? Santa Monica is a great place for that!
It is lined with stores- even a mall to explore! There are rental scooters everywhere (though you should know they aren't allowed on the main seaside strip of sidewalk and they will slow down if you go on it). Plus, there is always the beach/pier.
Granted, it gets busy! No doubt about that, but it's still worth it in my mind. Get there early or go midweek to manage the parking shortage that can oft occur.
Local spots I highly recommend are Philz coffee and Sidecar donuts! I always make a point to stop by these places when I'm in the area.
Then you can walk the pier, beach, or through the park!
Always a beautiful place to walk around, exercise, shop, eat or just lounge and just hang out and get a beer - or a coffee. I always feel refreshed after a walk around the promenade.
Great lively place at Christmas break. Don't pay more than $10 for parking. Avoid those guys unless it is super crowded.
Great place to spend the afternoon, with the classic Pier and boardwalk. The original Muscle Beach location here had a lot of cool things to try out and play on.
The biking and walking pathway is well maintained, the beach is combed regularly. If you follow the path South you will run right into Venice Beach with it's myriad shops and entertainments.
You'll love it. It's right at the beach. A good place to entertain and be entertained.
It's a place that can charm you in. The cafes , the plants, music coming from here and there, aroma of coffee, sculptures, shops, souvenir kiosks, benches in the middle of the now pedestrian street, hare Krishnas and Jesus lovers, you see it all here. I enjoyed sitting in the sun listening to a a couple musicians, and just being there- in the vibe of people with different accents and rythms.
Very nice place to visit. I enjoy walking around. There are three levels. The food court is very easy to choose
Santa Monica is such a happy and a happening place, with cute doggys moving around, yummy food variety, lively music full time, souvenir shops , awesome breeze, churros to eat, tiny dots ice cream and fruit cups..
Not a dull moment at all .
Very cool and relaxing environment with all walks of life making it an interesting day to people watch
Tell me 40 Minutes from the X4 USC station The beach is always enJoy the 3rd street promenades Beauty and celebration Go out on the pier Go out on the boulevard you can walk all the way down to Venice beach
Loved the food trucks. The pier was great. Nice view of the ocean and it had rides and funnel cakes and ice cream. Real California vibe. Cant wait to come back.
This city was so good that I didn't want to leave
Atmosphere is bright and warm! Happy faces everywhere to enjoy such an historic and beautiful pier! Performers on the pier are incredible with adorable shops and restaurants along the whole way... must go and spend a day there you won't regret it!
I always have a great time in Santa Monica especially walking down through the promenade. There is always something to do there. You can shop, go to a ton of restaurants as well as walk and people watch. You’re just minutes away from the beach so that’s always a plus. I highly recommend this area and it’s also fun to take pictures :)
Very croweded .but fun to just walk around explore.
Nice place to explore, go shopping, or out to eat! Great for day trips with family and friends!
Magical place! I loved the Third Street Promenade. Easy access, you can eat, shop and more. My favorite thing was the two dinosaurs and the balloons. Very cute, clean and practical place!
So much entertainment.. people dancing, different kind of artist showing ,singing, art.ect.. food is good.. July 4 was crazy.. lots of people.. the rides where good.. my kids had a awesome time
Very clean and high end. Lots of musicians filling up the place with amazing music! We got to make big bubbles from one of the people there too! Amazing place, would recommend!
Avoid the main boulevard and try to find the pedestrian areas, they are great, clean and always have some form of events going on.
Beautiful, picturesque, & family oriented. Be advised a LOT of homeless mixed in.
Nice place to sit and look around or to walk around. We enjoyed eating The Cheesecake Factory. For some reason the fire alarm went off while we were there but no one seemed worried by it.
It is OK. For Iranian people. Have to watch the prices. For regulars is fine. Also forvsame European country's. Staff Dont sell other markets.
Downtown Santa Monica was absolutely gorgeous for a visit. It had many super fun options for stores - from restaurants, to a candy store, to lots of shopping, and of course a great Starbucks as well. It also had clean public restrooms, very important, and plenty of parking.
But most of all, it was absolutely gorgeous. My partner and I just loved walking under a brightly-lit canopy of color. And we found these cute skateboard swings to hang out on for a break from enjoying the area.
Great date night potential here, highly recommend.
Great spot to walk around, enjoy shopping, good restaurants and coffee shops.
Whether coming to dine or shop or simply to take a walk, love the vibes here. There was art displayed for dia de los muertos (day of the dead) throughout the walk path.
The best part about my excursion was the karaoke guy who was singing all the songs, very entertaining.
Main street, 3rd and 4th street is simply living the California dream. Simply stunning vibrant and picturesque.
Nice place to walk around once and see the sunset, gets very busy and crowded on the pier. Everything is way overpriced.
Great coastal community!
The promenade is great. Plenty of live music happy people and shops to see. Great atmosphere.
Beautiful beach..😍😍 one must visit this place if you go to Los Angeles, California. …
Terrific atmosphere! Awesome hang out place for tourists and local alike. Great food nearby, the best beaches anywhere, and great sunshine all year round.
Things are starting to come alive again and 3rd street is nice and clean still with people wearing masks The pier is very good fun as well scooters are available around Santa Monica for cheap and easy transit
They have topiaries of dinosaurs. Lots of restaurants and shops. It's a nice place for a stroll.
Really nice place 😍😍😍 Beach was too cold when we got there though. …
I didn't realise that Downton had so many shops available and that the 3rd Street Promenade was all that was available - not so, get hold of a map at 3rd Street and you'll see the many shops available......
Had a great experience. Great tourist destination. Stunning coastal setting. Tons of things to do from a variety of shopping centers, acclaimed restaurants/bars and sightseeing. A bit crowded and very busy, only issue, little to no parking.
I LOVE the Third Street Promenade! It has just about everything you can think of for shopping, and with such a fun and relaxing vibe with the pedestrian only streets!
There's always street performers, oftentimes very talented, playing the violin or other musical instruments along the street, and crowds will often gather. If you can grab a spot on one of the benches, it's a very romantic and relaxing way to end an evening.
There are plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from, you can find something for everyone! The Santa Monica Place mall right next to the Promenade is very nice as well and has many dining options.
I love coming here to relax and shop and walk around! Despite the crowds, it still has a very chill and relaxing vibe to it.
Loved the place happening. Good shopping and food .
Beautiful place to spend time shopping, eating or watching a movie from an array of choices right by the Ocean pier and amusement park.
Nice and clean, but very busy and loud. More for a younger public.
Hadn't been here in 5 yrs. Very quite for a week day and less stores open then i can remember. Maybe they are feeling the effects of Covid and looters who shopliffted. Every store had a paid security guard at the front. Very different feel than in the past.
Awesome place to stroll in evening and enjoy if you are in Los Angeles.MetroRail connects this part to another parts of the city.
parked and walked to the pier. lots of people at this famous tourist attraction. ride the merry-go-round, great views. fun place to view people from all over the 🌎 …
We had such as good time. Kind of expensive, but a very nice experience😉😊 …
Nice shops and restaurants. Good place with the pier to get the kids out for some time
Much cleaner again! More shops than previously...good to see upward trend.
Pier was closed but lot of bars, restaurants, and the beach were opened so great escape from being cooped up in quarantine for months :)
A fantastic option if you're looking to get some sun and enjoy some time out!
There are a variety of different places to be able to grab a bite grab a drink as well as getting some good sites
Nice location. just drink, eat and listen to the music of those singing on the wooden bridge. the sun will keep you company
There is a lot to see, near by is the 3D art museum which is a family fun activity. You can find a public parking$2.00 per 2 hours right on 4th street and Arizona street. Down town is located on 3rd st. The pier is about half block away. There is a lot to see, walk. Shop or eat! Is pretty nice. I love Carlo's bakery! I will recomend to visit Santa Monica down town.
Very good place. We can feel antiques.
Tons of restaurants, shopping, cafes, souvenir stores, street performers, beach nearby.
Great place to hang out during the weekend!
Of course I’ve been to Third Street Promenade many times. It’s getting busier each and every year. I love that the City of Santa Monica offer free WiFi. Love the diversity, I love all the different shops and stores to shop. Restaurants, so many to choose from. The Apple Store. Definitely a cool place to take the whole family. We always run into celebrities when we go to Third Street. This time around we ran into the cutest twins. The McClure twins. Ava & Alexis. ♥️
Third Street Promenade is a shopping and restaurants area in Santa Monica. You can enjoy the music's streets art while you eat!! 💖 …
Santa Monica is ABSOLUTELYAMAZING !! I Love it there.. So many fun and exciting things to do there.. Whether you just want to take a stroll on the Pier.. Swim in the Ocean and not to mention the food is Amazing!
Lots of shops but they are all what you get at any mall in the US, like Nordstrom and Pac Sun. Shops are mostly clothing. I was hoping for something more unique. Lots of great food options. Fun to walk around. Farmers market on Wednesday with local fruit, veggies, meat, fish, eggs, honey, nuts, seeds, and flowers.
Lots of different shops good vibe.
Very Touristy. Like all of Santa Monica it's busy with tourists from all over the world. Lots of great restaurants and many store for the shopper in the family. Some street performers and several things for the kids and games like corn hole along the 3rd street Promenade.
Only spent about 45 minutes at the Poer mostly. But it was nice. Felt safe. A lot of pot smoking, so if it bothers you, stay away.
My favorite beach. Acro yoga on Sundays. An awesome vibe. Good group of people.
Very cool place lot's to do and see.
Spending time with my daughter ranning errands
Awesome place to shop and grab a bite. We had some pink guava and white chocolate gelato and coffee which was awesome. The place looks awesome and the lightings everywhere feels like holiday mood.
Vibrant. I love the vibe, air, people and cultures there. Will definitely visit again next time.
Excellent shopping options. The street performers liven up the atmosphere.
Great Beach. The famous Bay watch tv serial was shot there. Vibrant.End of the Trail 66.
Cool place close by to Santa Monica pier..nice shops and great places to hang out..you will find almost all brands here..
This is my favorite place , I live in Los Angeles but I often came here. There are lots of restaurants, bars, clubs, cafes, parking every block , shopping center, designers brand shops.
3rd Street Promenade close to Broadway. Perfectly chilly Friday night in December to walk around and see the sights.
Loved the place, a little bit crowded, but if that's not an issue for you, it will be enjoyable.
Shops are great, the placement of the escalators and bathrooms is really bad. Like not even semi inconvenient, like over the top inconvenient so you have to walk by more storefronts. No one who has to pee really bad is going to stop in and buy the cheese grater when they've got to walk an extra 1/4 mile. Lol
Amazing views, especially during the sunset.
I loved every moment of it from the beach to the other side of the street. Definitely a must
Beautiful scenery, good energy, always super crowded with good looking people, very fun atmosphere!
Really nice place to walk around!
Such an awesome experience here! Glad we stopped by! So much to do and walk around for. Cool murals and sights. Easily accessible walking, biking or the electric scooters everywhere to rent. Weather was awesome for this time of year and got colder at night.
The Main Street area has been upgraded since I last been. The street with the over head lights really makes a difference in the look of Santa Monica. It’s not the easiest drive around because there are few lanes but overall it’s a nice place to visit.
Love the scooters. Crazy packed with tourists on most days when weather is good. Expensive!
This modern open street-like shopping haven is refreshing and beautiful. It's easy to appreciate the architectural design of the Promenade.
Cool little outdoor shopping area located a short walk away from Santa Monica pier. There are a variety of stores offering food, drink, clothing and souvenirs. Good spot to check out before or after a visit to the pier.
Nice happening place abd many shopping options and action
One of the first places I take friends when they visit! Great walking area
Nice area with lots of shops and restaurants. Very walkable, and parking is easy - lots of cheap public structures around. There's the occasional odd or homeless person but really this is just about as clean and idyllic as LA gets.
Great area! Definitely a great beach location for families and people who are enjoying themselves.
As lovely as I remember my last trip in 12/2019.
Amazing view. Great restaurants, and lots to do. Beautiful sunset.
Great for walking, clean and safe
I absolutely love walking around the face was so present so beautiful the atmosphere I could just go there right now and live
I work in downtown Santa Monica. Everybody is so happy, the beach is alive, and the boardwalk is always packed.
Well I walked to Venice Beach this morning after having spent time in Downtown Santa Monica. These places could not be any more different... Upscale versus grunge. Both are a must visit. Santa Monica at any time of the day... Venice Beach during the day.
I heard so much about the Third Street Promenade and about how good was for shopping. I didn’t think the prices were cheap as people said, however it’s nice to walk around and find great stores.
Pretty decent sized venue for the show I saw. I wouldn't mind coming back here again. Like the 24oz beers.
Great weather places to visit but beware: on the pier there are homeless predators .
Fun area to hang out in. Since I live in the neighborhood, it is my default place to walk to and it has never gotten old. Lots of nice restaurants, bars and shops. Beach is stone’s throw away!
An area where you can communicate with all your senses.
Love love love Third Street!! Tons of fantastic restaurants, shops, spas, people watching. There’s something here for everyone. And it’s in Santa Monica, what’s not to like?
A lovely promenade with a wide range of retail stores to shop from. If you aren't here for the shopping it's a also a nice pedestrian walk for those beautiful days, whether you are taking your dog or significant others for a stroll or meeting friends and sitting down by the fountain to talk. Nice shady spaces throughout. Truly an uninterrupted pedestrian promenade.
Very vibrant and happening place with large but disciplined crowd. Lot of food options and reasonably priced parking lots.
Very nice place to walk and enjoy your afternoon qnd evening.
Tons of great shopping and restaurants. Local street performers and we'll maintained decorations/landscaping. Very cool atmosphere overall
Great shops and food. Closed street with fountains and street performers. Gets crowded in the summer, go early. Open late weekends.
A very lively place in the evening. Artists performing in the street. Many shops. A mall, food, movie theater and the beach nearby.
Warm and beautiful! Not super crowded, lots to do shopping, food, pier and Beach!
The promenade has changed and alot of the landmark stores and restaurants are now closed and there are empty buildings. With the increased crowds many people were not wearing mask. It will take time for the area revitalization to occur.
One of my favorite places in Los Angeles. Plenty of stores, restaurants, and just good vibes in general.
Alot of healthy options, clean and organized, they do have to do something about the squirrels theu are everywhere and in creating a hazard on the hills around the walking bridges connecting to the beach
Farmers market on a Saturday is good, try some great locally grown produce, fresh veggies and there’s a really great place for goat cheese, if you’ve never tasted goat Brie, then give it a try!!
Good place for a walk. A big mall. Lots of tourists.
One giant outdoor shopping mall with all the big chain stores, packed with tourists. If you don't like that stuff, stay away. However, on a warm evening, it is fun to stroll along, people watch, and check out the street performers.
A must see for any tourist and a great place to hang out with friends and family for locals... 3rd street promenade offers variety of stores... for those that enjoy shopping as well as places to enjoy a tasty meal or some drinks... not to mention the live entertainment by street performers...The pier is a great place for entertainment and photo opportunities
Really sucks at the homeless took this place over because there's needles everywhere there's weirdos out there too bad the city didn't really do something about it instead of talking about it
Lots to do, can easily spend a full day here just walking around.
Great place with awesome views!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have to visit this area. I fell in love with this area. Go check it out!
Santa Monica is expensive! For groceries take the E Line to Palms station and go 1 block north under the freeway to Vons and Rite Aid.
Nice place to visit, shop at, and have something to eat.
So nice to talk a walk at the Promenade. Especially at this weather of 74 degrees
It's a nice town. I'm not a huge fan of the Pier but the rest of Santa Monica is my kind of town. If you are looking for a person to chill out, I'd be glad to join, but I'm in Orlando so might take me a while to get nearby.
Nice city place to walk around. Lots to see and eat. we went ice-skating and it was super fun, not expensive at all. After that we took a walk to the santa monica pier and we called it a day.
Good vibe nice spot to chill and get into things.
Family = love/ fun
The best of my life.
And going to this beautiful places, looking around the world. And then you realize how wonderful world we have. Especially when love is in the air. And this is the best and pure love ever.
Third street is not where these cars are located. But if you need them and More like these let me know. I know of a whole huge Whitehouse of these.
My friends, servicing while hosting my TIME during A cocktail encounter is how we live for each other.
Predominantly retail shops and restaurants, they have done a good job of keeping the area clean and relevant. Fun way to spend an afternoon.
So good for an outing! The food tasted great and wasn't overpriced
This city is Greedy for money..what I mean is merto bus & Culver city where both free for Passengers on election day..but the big blue bus you had pay for riders.. this city does not care about its resident or nearby residents anymore unless your rich then they will listen to you...back in days they where all about its residents...today there about Is building new apartments and over Populating the city..and Inflation on rent for businesses & residence And inflating food prices & clothing to higher in prices ...parking tickets are higher then before....
Pretty walkable, very modern architecture mixed with old
A weekend near Wilshire Boulevard in Downtown Santa Monica is sure to invite an attractive and young crowd given the nightlife of its frequently populated clubs and bars in one location.
Great place during the day! Once the sun goes down, it turns into a completely different place. Creepers galore
Santa Monica is a great place to visit the Ocean in class and style! Tons of resteraunts and plenty of pier life to be had! Come have a drink, have lunch, or go shopping with an ocean view! The 3rd St Promenade is beautiful at night and alive on the weekends!
Beautifill 3rd street promenade. Free wifi everywhere in Sant Monica us a big plus.
Ran into MASTER P at the DMV . Great guy. Actually was down to earth super cool.
All I wanna do is have some fun
Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard...
Lots of great shops here. Definitely something for everyone.
Nice, safe enough to walk around town.
This is Uovo restaurant in Santa Monica. The pasta is flown from Bologna to ensure the quality of the pasta ingredients. We had Ragu, Clams, Matriciciana, and Artichoke pastas. Quick serve, all made on the spot. Small space, no reservations, go early!
Not nearly as clean or safe as I remember as a kid riding my skateboard down here, but definitely worth a visit if you're from out of town
Cool place for younger people with nice shops and good food.
Its fun to be at,
and many things to do. Take someone special with you and have some wonderful memories.
Classic old school surfing community, stop the development greed that's commercializing this are. It ruined Huntington and it's trying to ruin Santa Monica.
Santa Monica is a magical place to visit. It has so many choices for visitors.
I like this town, really clean, people are friendly. The beach has a pier and ferris wheel. A lot of sea gulls and eggs in the sand though so it may be a nesting ground for the birds and other aquatic animals.
Perfect for just having a stroll while you're on a date and of course, shopping. All the trendy stores are here and the atmosphere is perfect for relaxing.
Bustling activity with plenty of security and friendly people all around .
Always busy, always nice. Parking can be hard but train is easy and local buses work well.
Thinking mostly about the 3rd St Promenade: Touristy, and often crowded. I like it mostly at night, and during the holidays - it's festive. The buskers range from very annoying to talented and chill
Long pedestrianised shopping street with high street stores. Decorations for Christmas were up and really cool.
Great place to burn some calories, have great restaurants and shops!
Santa Monica would be the best place to visit in LA, shopping, fun and beach. Very nice scenic view along the beach. However too many homeless folks make it smelly and filthy.
Cool place to hang out. Careful with the bathrooms though. They are on every floor just in really weird places so it's kinda tricky to find and the family bathrooms are on the second and third floor which is weird but hey we made it.
Very nice place and certainly different than what we have in VA. Love the atmosphere here and there are a huge store selection. We just have way better prices in VA.
The pier closes at 10pm. So this is the entertainment area. They are quite talented.
Love the stores, the ambiance, the feel of the city, close to the beach and people watching
Nice area but majority of shops are not diverse. Food places are not very good. Expensive. No variety. Stores on second and fourth street are ignored. The firm that operates this area doesn't appear concerned about accompanying areas and Santa Monica Place is not Beverly Hills. The bars are terrible, no control over drunks and people are cold.
Upscale shopping place. Buzzing with street performances. Very crowded during weekends
Nice little shopping strip. Cute fountains made out of shrubs, and made to look like dinosaurs.
I enjoyed my visit very much. Drivers need to be more understanding when people crossing 🚸 you can wait a few extra seconds than honking for me to hurry up. I have a disability and walk carefully to avoid a fall. It's very annoying and dangerous when iam being rushed. …
Lot of fun here with musicians and other artists in the 3rd street . There is also a free fitness cession on sunday morning on Santa Monica bvd side.
Downtown Santa monica, great place to play Pokémon GO
An eclectic blend of eateries and shopping stores. You can literally find it all here. Very good ambiance and hey, you're right next to the beach. Can't get much better than that!
There is stuff within walking distance, so if you're on travel and don't want it have access to a car, you'll be fine. Walking malls, the Pier, bike path, public transportation. Santa Monica has it all. We biked to Venice Beach in 30 mins on the bike path, so getting around is easy.
Is a great place to go with your family and friends
A lively place of stores, venders, sights and sometimes live performers.
A few blocks of family fun and three blocks from the beach.
Spend some time and enjoy.
George Vreeland Hill
Santa Monica is a beautiful place where you can walk on the beach there is a Ferris wheel and many things to see It is a very touristy place but it is better to go on the beach of Santa Monica than on Venice Beach which is a little less frequentable
pretty beautiful to visit.

Beautiful this time of year
Clean and ready to please
Enjoyed our stay there.
A "must visit" when coming to Los Angeles. The promenade is ridden with stores and shopping malls with every conceivable brand with the latest fashion trends that are simultaneously born within the plethoric amounts of socialites that daily visit this spot. Street performances from local talents entertain turists and residents alike all year round. No visit to L.A. shall ever be complete without attending the promenade either on a shoping detail or plainly to grab something to eat.
Very pleased with the area. Great restaurants and views.
Downtown Santa Monica is an absolute great place to walk around and enjoy the activity going on all around you and feeling comfortable and safe. I come here as often as I can to visit my brother who is less than a mile from the downtown area. I have never visited him without spending time enjoying the good vibes this Southern California beach town puts out.
Such a great fun family place. Very chill vibe.
Went for sunset while visiting. Crazy busy and crowded. But a fun mix of locals and tourists. Lots of places to get food, games and entertainment.
Go for third street promenade .. The best of Santa Monica ..
Top attraction in LA !!
Omg its full of beauty and life
Good shop choices. Musicians and entertainers everywhere, make this a fun way to spend the day
Great place to spend some time shopping and window shopping. Clean streets.
This place has plenty of stores on site. You can definitely spend a whole day walking around downtown Santa Monica to find a store/ restaurant for you. The place is extremely clean and there is something for everyone. If you haven't come here yet you should and walk down to the pier.
Beautiful place a little retro but gorgeous sight seeing
Openess... fresh air and great food selection. Ot has 2 different theater within a block away and the $6 AMC Tuesdays are the highlights for the week for me.
A vibrant downtown with lots of restaurants and people-watching opportunities!
Seeing more and more homeless and mentally ill people in the area, at night especially. At times they can be intimidating. Such a spread of society, from the worst off to the financially affluent.
Hope they have more shops open. Even the affordable ones.
Interesting place. A study in contradictions. Both stylist and lavish, and pretentious at the same time. As if they understand you, but loathe you at the same time. I know that I'm being more blunt and critical as of late, but times have changed. The entire world has changed. People who have been raised to be polite and meek are showing their true colors. I've never proclaimed to be anything like meek. And my true colors, as hard to believe as they are, will repel some, attract others...I care not for either. These are my own experiences. I will tell them how I saw them. Right or wrong, but brutally honest and candid. I think it's about that "People" step out of the shadows. If you believe what you are trying to sell, take off the veil and show me your eyes when you lie to the world.
