Reviews of Chinatown Central Plaza
Ara
Maybe I didn’t visit at the right time as most of it was closed by 4pm and there was only a typical cheap store of Chinese things, didn’t know what to expect. But for the side of seeing some traditional Chinese architecture it is amazing! Maybe you can get nice photo opportunities as at that time it isn’t that crowded.

The main reason why I'm in LA is to watch the last three Dodger games of the season. But since I had a lot of time to kill, I decided to stop by Chinatown LA. It was really cool to see a statue of Bruce Lee. Not as big as the Chinatown in San Francisco but still pretty nice. Quite a few gifts and souvenir shops. It wasn't super busy but it wasn't the weekend or the holidays. It was also nice to see the Foo Chow restaurant where the first Rush Hour was filmed at. I will stop by here again when I come back to LA.
Ro Rober.
Years ago parents would take us for Chinese Dinner for authenticity. I go now before Dodger Games to get little trinkets, plants or garden wind blowers. Area has changed dramatically but still worth a walk through. There is $5 all day parking or free meter parking with a handicap placard.
Never been? Worth a tourist stop. Lots of eateries if inclined to try.
Dwight
This was another great place to stop, during our visit to Cali. There were no crowds, so we were happy with that because it allowed us the time to stroll at our own pace without being rushed along. Stopped and grabbed a little lunch while there…..the dumplings were amazing 🤩 sorry I don’t remember where I bought them. …
Lynne
Quaint and a tad kitchy but such a picturesque place to visit at night. Tourists weren't and shops all closed early because of Chinese New Year. Normally it's bustling, but I did enjoy the quiet.
Alison de Geus
Very cool vibe! The architecture and bobbing lanterns alone are worth the visit! Many of the colorful stalls were open for business selling jade trinkets, parasols, wind chimes, dragon marionettes and more. Of course, we enjoyed lotus seed, and red bean, moon cakes while we took in the art and culture. Kids loved this afternoon.
James Zhang
Beautiful plaza celebrating Chinese culture. They have two statues and many lanterns hanging around. Lots of great little businesses and restaurants to check out. Support the local businesses here!
Anil Alpogunc
So cool place. If you are in town, don't miss Chinatown summer nights. Many restaurants and small businesses that you can easily spend hours in..
Abraham Cheung
For a Friday afternoon, it was not too busy. Lots of space to roam around and to explore. The architecture is really cool to enjoy. There are some areas fenced off and under construction. I do hope that those places can be transformed into beautiful community spaces soon (if that is the plan)!
Some key highlights of my visit to Chinatown Central Plaza: Wonder Bakery (Chinese bakery with awesome dan tat/egg tart), Thank You Coffee (Hojicha latte was the bomb!), and Paper Please (stationary store that sells local artist's works).
Im sorry For your loss
Literally, every time that you hear that there is a party in Chinatown you must go take all your friends and family and literally go this video. Can show you how funny it was the sound was amazing. The colors was unbelievable. Drinks was trash but it’s fine. Usually the entrance to this party cost around 100 bucks. But you really going to enjoy Chinatown the vibes there are difference.
And usually it’s cold at night, so bring some jacket and come with the Uber because you probably going to drink a lot
wendy Marquez
If you are in LA ,don't forget to visit Chinatown.
Summer nights are the best experience!
Plenty of food, good music and amazing vibes!
Mustafa Al najim
It’s an awesome place but very few people visiting and most of the business are closed. Parking by the street or close to Bruce lee status for 7 dollars. Plan to walk for 30 minutes. No public restrooms
Linford Pierce
Went there with their family had a great time first time there I really enjoyed it food was the best Chinese food I ever had
Jk7._.
Come here often it's different cus then it's packed or it's not busy at all but it's pretty good it's peaceful and nice.
Gilberto Cardenas
The plaza is a vibrant and bustling area that is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions.
One of the highlights of the plaza is the wide variety of Chinese goods available for purchase, from traditional clothing and accessories to Chinese herbs and teas. The prices were also very reasonable, making it easy to take a piece of the culture home with you.
The restaurants in the area were also fantastic, they offered a wide range of traditional Chinese dishes that were delicious and authentic. I particularly enjoyed trying some of the street food, which was a great way to experience the flavors and textures of Chinese cuisine.
Overall, I had a great experience at the Chinatown Central Plaza in Los Angeles. It's a great place to experience Chinese culture, from the delicious food and traditional goods, to the cultural attractions and friendly people.
chavonne estrella
Chinatown Summer Nights was a freaken blast!!! There were food trucks, a dj, booths/stores and people of all ages vibing together.
Kim Schjeltved
The area is ok to walk around and you must see it if you are there. It's just like being in China, dirty, slum, small dark shops whit cheap stuff of bad quality
Sue Ream
This is a fun little place in LA. Restaurants, shops and a little play area for the kids. Chinatown with a Los Angeles flair.
James Jordan
I love coming down here. Always something fun to do.
Came down with friends for the lunar new year celebration. Happy Year of the Rabbit!!!
MOUNTAIN CORAZON
A visit until the ancient Saigon discovered Bruce Lee statue iconic from the 70s that he was big in Hollywood pretty much the only way Americans knew in Chinatown was about it about the tire smoothies and also plenty of traffic to go around dragon fruitless so tremendously beautiful gardens very clean good energy plenty of trees and plants to go around I want a tree is sold their rigorously also there's lots of food on the street to be so perfectly jackfruit and dragon fruit bring the kitties plenty of walking type places Oriental talking North Broadway detention and then sing singly also saw Burger Lords as well as booga booga princess the little turtle thank you
Theron Bou
I was just driving around and I was this place. It was very nice
Will W
LA landmark. Parking is a little challenging but we’ll worth the visit.
Blanca Flors
Haha Business owners can sometimes be rude of you only touch and don't purchase but, meh... Some can be very kind and helpful and even suggest options if you're looking for facial care and tea.
B
The walk was great plenty of things to see. Shop and eat. Definitely a tourist spot. As you see the pic rush hour was filmed there. They have great dessert places also cookies and cakes.
Emmanuel “WrenchTrooper” D
Chinatown is one of L.A.'s most popular tourist destinations, located in Downtown L.A. near the city's civic and cultural center. Travelers may be confused by the "New Chinatown" mural that marks the neighborhood's Central Plaza, but there's a story behind that. L.A.'s first Chinatown was located where Union Station is now. In the early 1930s, the old enclave was razed in favor of L.A.'s major train terminal, and in June 1938 a new Chinatown celebrated its grand opening not far from where the original neighborhood stood. New Chinatown became a significant part of both local and national history - it's the first such neighborhood in the U.S. that was actually owned by Chinese residents.
Jamaica Rochester
Not as big as I thought it would be. However it was really nice to visit. We got to eat, at the restaurant where they filmed the movie rush hour.. Also had fun, taking pictures by the Bruce Lee statue . I would definitely going again.
pedro vera
It's an L.A landmark why not take a tour of it! Enjoy.
Willy “JR” Olsen
Like a lot of places in downtown LA, Chinatown has it's high vacancies of commercial space. What stores and restaurants that were open didn't have a lot of business going on. It's sad and it shouldn't be that way. But I did enjoy my time wandering around Chinatown. In the "Old Chinatown" area there was a photo shoot in one of the buildings going on and in one of the nearby stores they were shooting a scene to a show.
While walking around I did come across the old Velvet Turtle sign. I'm surprised it's still standing after all these years being closed and the building being torn down.
John Edmonds
Love Chinatown and the rich culture it represents.nice small shops.
Roger Yanez
Was not the experience you had on mind, to much business closed by the pandemic, but stil have the charm you expect it.
Too much history in this streets, people try to survive the bad economy and you can find cool stuff in the stores
TJ
Very fun. Came here at night while things were closing down. Not much to do with it being closing time, but it was fun to walk in the plaza and see all the lights. Fun quick stop on our way back to the hotel.
Art Lopez
I’ve been to China before, and this place has a Chinese vibe to it.
Mel
Such a beautiful district, all the shops were so friendly. On the day we went a lot was closed but still fun to peek around!
William Stanton
Just feels nice to get away from the American lifestyle for a while
Francisco Garcia
Great place to experience the architecture. The shops are small but good enough to shop for chinese products. We took pictures and the kids had a blast throwing those little poppers on the floor. The Bruce Lee statue is also located here so we took some pictures. I would recommend parking at the $5 dollar parking garage for the whole day since there are also other shops and an outdoor swapmeet looking alley with many vendors close by down the street if you walk about 3 minutes south on N Broadway St towards HW 101. You will also find the $5 dollar parking garage here right next to the alley. Some will try hard to get you to buy something from them. Great experience overall.
David Janisch
I really enjoyed walking around and taking pictures. Everyone is so friendly here. Awesome bakeries too.
K H
Nice vibe, it took me a minute to realize there was an upstairs. Lol. Although 2 different bartenders charged me 2 different prices for the same drink..great music if you're into real hip hop!
Linda kulczyk
Quaint place. Love the architecture.
Alvie Rules
Love it. It is a nice get away, and there are so many little shops to visit. Not to mention the wide array of authentic Chinese restaurants like Yang Chow!!!!.
Hadi's Entertainment
It was the first time that I was there, it is a nice area to visit sometimes specially try Chinese food and Chinese stuff, there are small shops there that you can find herbal tea and Chinese spices. Another thing that I did like is Bruce Lee's statue there; however it is not look like him ;-), for parking there are parking garages there that you will be charged 4$ atleast, it is around 20 minutes walk from union station that you can visit Alvaro street before going to China town.
Misty Arceneaux
Very bright and vibrant. Lots to see and do. Plenty of shopping and tons of really good food. You can kill a whole afternoon or evening here. They also have a lot of festivals and events that take place through out the year that are really worth checking out. Parking is kind of expensive though.
Elisa Ontiveros
Walked through the whole place and discovered bc of covid not very many places were able to survive the impact but some did, thank goodness, we all need a little exotica in our lives.
Felicity Fung
Came to take a quintessential picture of the red lanterns. Other than that, don't expect much from this plaza. Also, there's a burger joint in this Chinatown Plaza... doesn't make sense to me...
Larry Abruzzo
Another couple of hours lingering around Chinatown. Always visually exciting with an abundance of red, yellow & gold colors, the vendors selling on the sidewalk to all the places you can eat Chinatown never disappoints especially if you like taking pictures.
Jim Lewis
Really surprised to find everything closed on a Saturday night at 8:20pm. Chinatown was much cleaner than the surrounding neighborhoods.
Mick Calarco
I love Chinatown, and the Central Plaza is no exception. The architecture is amazing and there's a couple of cool pieces of public art. If you like to shop, there's a nice shop selling Chinese goods, and there's a tasty bakery. However, for me, I go back time and time again for Burgerlords- a super tasty, homemade veggie burger and fries! Who would have thought that a perfect veggie burger joint is tucked away in Chinatown?
Carmen Chan
I'm sure this used to be more populated and better than what it is now. Mostly the elderly people around. Apparently this was where Rush Hour was filmed. There's a Bruce Lee statue there. Definitely nothing compared to NYC Chinatown. Barely any Asian supermarkets or street vendors. They need to fix this place up and bring back the younger Cantonese group back to make it feel more like Chinatown.
PJ
The history of the plaza is nice to experience and walk through. Not all the historic shops are open and some replaced by newer products. It's a nice place when there are cultural fests however the crowd is what makes it either enjoyable or too overwhelming. Many different shops around and within.
John Swanson
We enjoyed visiting Chinatown. It still looks pretty much the same as it did fifty years ago, but it is certainly not as well attended as it was then.
We went down there on the train to have lunch and just walk around a bit. It was on a weekday. There were very few people there and many of the shops were not open. Some shops looked as if they were permanently closed.
I always feel nostalgic when I go to Chinatown, but I am sad that it has deteriorated somewhat over the years.
Jose Galan
Very nice I feeling passion to walk around, I loved it when I buying food, sweet bread, soubenir and more.
Mandi Markwardt
A fun experience with friendly shops and delicious foods! My only disappointment was that many of the shops were closed at the time of my visit.
evaristo martinez
Nice place and culturally awakening seeing some of the old buildings that still stand.
Frankie4BJJ
Wish I came earlier, it looks like a fun place to hang out and visit shops. Everything was pretty much closed when I arrived around 7pm. Maybe next time. Still got to see the Bruce Lee monument and take great pictures!
Terry Ow-Wing
Hard to see so many mom pop stores closed up. But still worth the visit to find goodies.
Jeff Mendoza
This place has always been a fun place to go bar hopping. A lot of the bars play good music and have drinks at a good price. From time to time they have outdoor events like Chinatown summer nights which is super fun for the family. There are numerous food trucks and food booths as well as confetti cannons that pop off everywhere. It almost feels like a New Year’s Eve celebration. The kids love it and we will surely come back to this yearly event again.
Jason Cohen
Great place to experience Chinese-American culture, having an abundance of Chinese architecture, food, souvenirs and ambiance right near downtown Los Angeles
Nick Z
Sadly, as can be seen in my pictures, almost every store was closed and the plaza was mostly dead when I walked through. Looking at the pictures though, I can only imagine how these little streets come alive at night like in a Miyazaki movie! Maybe next time I'll see it come alive!
ROY TREVINO
A bit dated, but was really neat to see Bruce Lee statue and historical landmark around the area.
LaVonne Grady
Chinatown is a fun hotel place to hand out and fresh some Chinese food. There are plenty of places to shop. Chinese be year parade is as great way to have fun with family and friends.
Lorrine
Maybe it was the time of day and the day of the week (Monday around 2pm) but it was pretty lonely which I like don't get me wrong, but it didn't look very lively. At the same time, the shops were open, went into 1 and wanted to buy all sorts of things (hair clips for the most part, very shiny and fancy) they had a lot of Chinese new year stuff (stamps & bracelets) and just a whole bunch of little trinkets. I was really the to check out Burgerlords, but that's another review :).
Hanru Redelinghuys
Attended the summer nights festival and it was Poppin! Literally... there was confetti being shot all over the place! Really cool though but a lot of people attend so there is a lot of lines for most of the vendors. Would go again
Kizel M.
Most stores closed very early, which is understandable during a pandemic. I appreciated the opportunity to see such beautiful views around the plaza.
Matthias Woll
Definitely only worth it in the afternoon or evening, most stores and restaurants open at noon. Vendors tend to have high prices on items, we didn't try to haggle but it would've been worth a try.
Javier Aguirre
Great place to take a summer stroll and come in contact with Chinese culture. You may find several shops and restaurants in this area.
Hector Lopez
Nice area with restaurants and stores from different countries in Asia
Jeff Lau
Not too much to see here. Best thing was the Bruce Lee statue. We came on a Sunday afternoon and half the shops were closed. Most of the buildings could use some updates. Beware of the homeless.
Sylvia Rini Handayani
Truly great place to shop chinese stuffs!! i.e. cheongsam dresses, silk blouses for men, souvenirs, accessories etc.
Many stores for this here.
Cheongsam dress is $29 each, men blouse is around $35. Other small stuffs are also not expensive.
There are statues that you should take photos with i.e. Bruce Lee photo (shown here) and other symbolic chinese statues.
There are dragon couples on top of the gate of Chinatown that is really cool.
The chinese atmosphere ia really felt here with the red lanterns, live music etc.
They have parade in Chinese new year, really worth to see.
Feel the chinese vibes here!!
Jay Fidelis
Was there for the summer nights festival , which made it extra active. In general Chinatown is cool to visit. Being an l.a. local, not my first time there. Lots of good eateries.
Ibrahim Abusway
Knightley stroll with my son. It was a different experience.
Tara Martin
It's a very nice place to visit with a group, family and friends. You can find the resturant where Rush Hour the movie was filed, the statue of Bruce Lee and all the quaint little shops that's there!
Hazel su
Small Chinatown to walk ard..
Lisa Pozo
This place is a party all Summer with DJs, confetti, shopping, and dining, both at restaurants, and the very Angelino food trucks. Chinatown hosts a fun multicultural Lunar New Year Parade annually also. You should join in the fun.
Antonio Mendoza
This right here is the quintessential Chinatown experience you can't go wrong you want to get yourself a boba right around the corner you want to get yourself some little knick knacks souvenirs there's a few stores up and down you want to get yourself something to eat the restaurant where they film Jackie Chan's rush hour is right across the street and if you're willing to take the hike right around the corner also is Phoenix bakery the almond cookies there cakes pastries heck what am I saying everything is good there.
Ro Lo
Too small and not a lot of people. Maybe due to July 4th long holiday, people went out of town.
Austin Liu
So many Chinese words written on the wall of shops and also the flag. Making me feel I was stayed in the China then lol. It’s a good place for traveling.
The Yoga Chick
A nice tourist destination and a cool place to buy souvenirs. I’d hoped to see a bit more food choices but it was still a good experience. I’m not sure this is necessarily one of the things that you “must” do if you are in LA but if you are already close by, it wouldn’t be bad to walk through and check it out.
cesar cipres
Amazing place to visit and enjoy the Chinise culture and Shopping and eat the Delicious Food around Chinatown ...... Come and enjoy your days with Family and friends infinity 🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸🌏🌍🌎🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🌎🌍🌏😢🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸 …
Angie 885
I went to this place for the Moon festival. Their was alot of places for food. I didn't buy anything to eat. But the smell of food was tempting.
Alberto Lorenzo
This is a great location for people that want to learn more about Asian cultures there's several places around this little 2 block area in which you can discover so many things from the art around buildings to the buildings themselves they aren't normal as you can see and all around you'll see different statues that represent ancient asian culture its a very nkce scenery for those who admire these kinds of things really recommend the anime shops around and stores you'll be able to find most of your needs in as little as 5 minutes enjoy!
LouieDog27
We had a lot of fun here. I took my children for a walk through LA and we wanted to find a place to eat. Although some of the items were severely price gouged, like 2.50 for a tiny glass bottle of Jarritos, we found a couple different spots to order from and the food was delicious. The China Cafe had reasonably priced food and it was delicious. Great tourist food spot, as there was numerous different varieties of foods available from Italian to Chinese to chicken wings and more.
Sinbadd Mora
Little Chinatown couldn't be any cuter. The vendors are so enthusiastic about selling you products. Love it! Lol. I take all my Out of Towners to this little China getaway and they like it.
Vincent Jenkins
Well parking is a challenge Uber or ride you’re motorcycle
Margo Gutierrez
I only go there to go to the Phoenix bakery. Their strawberry cakes are so famous in our family, my 4 year old grand niece requested it for her birthday!
Laura T.
Smaller than expected but it's a very nice place to sit down and relax for a little while after visiting the different shops or eating at one of the many restaurants close by.
Subham Saha
Small China!
I literally was amazed seeing the small shops depicting the Chinese culture. The Saigon plaza is a must-go. The groceries and spices are cheap. Also nearby is Howlin Ray's! Maybe the queue is long but the chicken was spicy! Tried the hot one! The coke was needed!
Joshua Dodson
Was very nice to visit here recently and do a little shopping as well. The Bruce Lee statue was so cool to see in person finally.
Jayce Pasko
A great place to visit! Filled with interesting architecture, unique small shops, a variety of restaurants, and a festive atmosphere. It was a beautiful day which enhanced the experience. Do not miss the opportunity to spend some time here!
dino g
Probably the best part of Chinatown is this square area which was rather interesting but many of the places were closed for whatever reason. Very little to see in the surrounding area of Chinatown but still worth a stop by to see. Won’t be a long visit sadly thou.
Cynthia Garcia
Very nice plaza to walk at night it's very well lit and they are bars in this area as well with an area for kids to get on some mechanical rides
Norma Amador
One of the best places we visited. The merchants were all so nice and sweet!
Anna Kirby
It's very beautiful, especially at night time! A nice place to relax and shop.
Loves Jesus My Savior
OMG I loved it! Phoenix Bakery and best of all the Bruce Lee statue. I love it here ❤️❤️❤️🥰 …
yNot_FPV
Beautiful and an experience you've gotta just see in person! Loved the lights at night
Bernard Jugoslavic
The development of most Chinatowns typically resulted from mass migration to an area without any or with very few Chinese residents. As described by the 16th century European travellers to East India[1], Chinese quarters were already in existence at most of the port towns in this region. Notable early examples outside Asia include San Francisco's Chinatown in the United States and Melbourne's Chinatown in Australia, which were founded in the mid-19th century during the California gold rush and Victoria gold rush, respectively. A more modern example, in Montville, Connecticut, was caused by the displacement of Chinese workers in the Manhattan Chinatown following the September 11th attacks in 2001.[2][3]
Ger Vang
Great place to visit. Many little hidden gems stores to visit along with their little indoor plaza market.
O.k Tomahawk
Love it here it like you traveled back in time, cute little spot to take photos came here recently was a little disappointed it wasn't kept up. The fountain is my favourite spot as well as the local mom and pop stores. The Bruce Lee statue worth visiting
Kurt Ghost KELLY
Peaceful I was able to get some work done without the interruptions and the most part people always very friendly except for a few people with calendar can you have to watch out for the girls as well You'll figure it out as you know
Phillip L
A adorable place to get some good Chinese food at Foos, do a little gift shopping at Ginseng Gifts and stroll around. The evening at dusk is really a nice time to go. Also, this coming February 8, 2018 is the Chinese New Year. Don't miss it. Bring the family.
FuserAgent
An enchanting area of Los Angeles with shops and great food (affordable) Shops close early however in the summer time we were able to visit during their Summer night Series and it was wonderful with food trucks and Local DJs. A definite must. The shops are also very authentic since everything is made in China (LOL) but they also have arts and crafts stores and local artists shops.
Ramona Rodriguez
Still one of my favorite places we went in a Sunday was pretty empty but still enjoyed sitting in the courtyard
Daria Dubois
@darya_dubouskaya: great atmosphere. Looks magic at night. If you are by any chance decided to spend some time here, try the vegetarian burger!
Herlinda Vasquez (HEVA's World)
Nice place. I really like it. Its open now but not as before. Well it was ok for me and my family
David Vu
Great place for night photo shoot. The lanterns are amazingly aesthetic in the evening til the late hours. I use to come here a decade ago and enjoyed the festivities and still is a pleasant visit now.
Ezra Stogar
One of my favorite areas in Los Angeles, great architecture, great food and local merchants are always happy to see new faces and help customers. Went there for Lunar Year parade and it was awesome. I recommend taking the subway, Red Line than Gold Line to avoid traffic and parking issues. Really fun for family and gives people a taste of LA's thriving urban scene.
dc cruz
Great place to get Chinese cookies/ bread 👍 yummy 🤤 stop by and enjoy. …
Elizabeth Morosan Busuioc
I mean, it's there and the pictures come out like the way we visualized this "must-visit" spot. But, I visit it during the coronavirus and it was empty which was actually pretty nice. It nice to experience it along with the variety of Asian food, store, toys, dragon fountains, lanterns, and more. It's nice but I really did expect more. 🤷 …
Ebonyeyes
Really nice got there too late go shopping. Visited 4/22/22
hoa phan
Nice area to walk around. Interesting buildings and a lot to see. We stopped at the Phoenix bakery to get some snacks
Patricia Villasana
Good food friendly workers clean served alot always take food home love this place good prices too.
Daniela Martinez
It was less then ok, sad actually. I have these memories of going to Chinatown as a kid with my parents, it was colorful, and busy and tons to see. Now many places are closed, it's run down, it's dingy. I took my daughter and it was disappointing. We drove around to Little Tokyo but didn't stop by then we just wanted out of LA.
Oblivion Approaches
Nice small place, the most famous spot of Chinatown. Walking distance to many other restaurants, bakeries, and shopping. About a 10 minute walk from Olvera St.
Suzy Best
Loved oriental store owners, so sweet and friendly! Really enjoyed watching Chinese New Year parade. (Except for too many police vehicles and motorcycles, which aren't necessary, for they do not suit Chinese's cultures).
Yobani Sanchez
The plaza itself doesn't have much to explore, the surrounding restaurants are where the magic is at. There are so many low key, authentic and affordable places to eat. We tried the Pho87 and it was beyond our expectations.
Bruce Hinz
I produced all day I dream there. Very friendly people great place to party.
isam biaha
a nice few blocks of Chinese style streets.
small shops and restaurants.
though it seems that it's good days have long passed.
Pumagurl 88
Very nice place to visit! I loved it! Many shops to choose from and food resturant.
Jon Beasley
COVID is a challenge for Chinatown. Book a table...buy a Happy Buddha or a Lucky Cat. The Plaza needs your loyalty and dollars what a cultural treasure!
Dolores Miranda
Make sure you have comfortable shoes. It's location is on the corner of College and Spring street. FYIi: a gas station is on the corner of it.
Kyle Wit
Some nice shops. It is not a very lively place though it may be full of people and it lacks any aesthetic spots to sit down. I had a nice chat with some shop owners, very friendly and very unfriendly depending on which one. Worth a short visit
joy criner
It was dead..stores were dusty. I don't see how people were eating there. Very touristy vibe...heard it's going through a transition.
Joanne Carolan
Had a blast seeing a free KCRW DJ event. Packed, but felt safe and organized. Lots of food trucks. Found $15 parking very close. Bought confetti canons fairly cheap which made the night even better : D
RyB Productions Inc
Had a blast at the Chinatown Summer Nights Block party!! It was a bit crowd but the energy was definitely a vibe. The confetti poppers had me on edge but good times!!
Jago Gonzalez
Went a bit late in the evening during a weekday but still managed to get some tasty pastries and drinks over at Long's. Super sweet lady in there to help you out.
Dre'Ya W
Pretty cool to see the Bruce Lee statue and there's several stores where you can buy souvenirs like Chinese jewellery, kimonos and umbrellas.
Pao Vero
Cool place in Los Angeles Chinatown .. You can find some restaurants, stores, a cool statue of Bruce Lee.
Serina Gee
I was here at night to bar-hop, but avoid the crowds of Ktown. Not much going on in the plaza, but the lights were cool and we got some drinks at General Lee's.
LA
This place is a trip! Especially Saigon Plaza, an eerie, deep maze of shops and curious things!
Jasmine
It's a decent place for pictures but it's sub par on cleanliness.
arthur navarro
Felt like we were in China very unique shops and restaurants. Food is amazing here.
Cassidy Gutierrez
Great place to come with friends or by yourself. I love the culture shops and weapon shops they have here, very diverse and inexpensive.
Morris WEI
The food in Chinatown is close to my favor, but there’s a little difference when it compare with my country food. There’s a statue of Bruce Lee. Overall, the sanitation in Chinatown should be enhanced. And this area seems a little decline.
Monique Gonzalez
I had a great time. Lots of shopping options and if you don't have change you can pay parking with card.
David Johnston
The Chinatown you have seen in the movies for years. The Resteraunt where Rush hour was made but the area is dirtier than I expected and many of the places are closed early in the day not making an evening of lights in what would be expected I. The Chinatown area of LA
Denice Barnes
My sister and I had lunch at the Plum Tree Inn. It was great! We really enjoyed visiting the area.
liz gonzales
I enjoy coming to and shopping here but stores don't seem to have regular business hours. So if you want to shop come about noon make sure everything is open.
Knight Langelot
The oldest Chinatown in US after San Francisco. Very lovely old streets and I always had a feeling that I walked the streets of China or Hong Kong. The Chinese dialect spoken here is Cantonese. There is a public library with lots of Chinese books.
C Yang
It was actually peaceful & lots to see everywhere
Candice Ramirez
I found out about this place through Chinatown Summer Nights and loved it ever since! It's always fun when they do free events. You park a little ways away in any lot you can find. The main event has live music, DJ's, food trucks, decent portopotties with sinks in them. It's always a blast.
Cindy Poot
Very cute place to visit. Lights at night are amazing. Lots of shops, places to eat, little shops & grocery store. Love to visit every trip down south.
Noemi Aldana
There some little stores and the view is so pretty. Good for take pictures but it’s too small
ed fimbres
Great historic city within a city, much culture all around you. A must see destination
Bobby Perez
It's own little town wit its own Lil kulture
Perry
One of the cutest Chinatown's I have been to. The colours were amazing. The architecture. Would go back. It was pretty quiet though.
Dora Fitzpatrick
Quaint shops, cool art exhibit, and excellent bakery!
Mahnorreah ChinHun
It was a fun place. There are many cool and cute things to get for souvenirs.
Emily Cardiel
Beautiful and great for photos. The Import Bazaar had a helpful employee who answered my group's questions. We bought chopsticks and chopstick holders from there. China Affection is run by a funny and kind couple. They were both helpful as they guided us through the store and I enjoyed my visit there. They mostly sold jewelry, mini backpacks, and wooden puzzles. I also recommend the bakery here. Other vendors felt like they hovered quite a bit. They would pick up things and point items out to see if my group would buy. When we went, the plaza was very empty and I think that played a part in my group of four getting extra attention. It felt smothering so we left after 5 shops, but there's plenty left for a second visit sometime. The last time I was here was in 2006 and times are very different. Most shops feel out of touch and still sell things from the early 2000s. We struggled to find noodles, chopsticks, red envelopes, stationery, lucky cats, or really anything we could think to get, but I would still pay another visit for the nostalgia and the few shops we missed.
Alex Fresquez
It hasn't changed much since I the 80 s and 90s love this place. Cool to walk around and mingle
Andrea Walker
Take a pic with the Bruce Lee statue and get an umbrella and stuff from the local stores to take amazing shots.
Logan Garcia
I’ve been here dozen of times throughout my life! It is always so fun. I love throwing my coins into the luck pond.
Lazaro Medina
This place gets very fun on certain nights. Go on Chinatown Summer Nights and this is a 5 star experience. Although, Very Crowded.
The good markets are nearby not in this square.
Lx Zap
It's ok but not big enough very small plaza only 2 small gift shops with the same things .
Breda Wall
Bizarre bazzare ..lots and lots of merchandise.
Strange experience for me and admittedly I am not a shopper but was visiting the area.
Victor Sarmiento
When I was a kid, my dad used to bring us here. I used to love this place I still do, nothing like this in Georgia.
Alaina Romeo
Amazing place. Lots of parking space in parking lot and people are friendly.
Kelli Wilson
Lots of fun!!
Super cool atmosphere & friendly shops.
Tara Kelley
Not too busy for a Saturday night, lots of cute little shops, fun lights and restaurants around. Jackie Chan statue is a bonus!
Evan C.
Always a must visit once in Chinatown. It is good for the memories (pictures), and one can also find some other curiosities.
Barry Hough
It has Thai milk tea and interesting shopping. The scenery is great.
Lourdes
Amazing the cute things you can find. I found my full ninja outfit just in time for Anime Expo. If you need oriental details for your cosplay be sure to stop by Chinatown.
sham pillay
Nice and vibey, lots of Chinese and other Eastern foods. Worth a visit.
George Jackson
We always like going there, even though it's a bit sad how many businesses are closed or only open on the weekend. This time we found that both the Bhuddist temple down the street and the Chinese-American Museum are both only open for weekends. :-(
Quasimodo
A rather sad place. The vendors were nice, but for a real Chinatown experience I guess you would need to go to San Francisco. This was more of a collection of Chinese shops in a mall between two streets.
oscar castillo
This place is awesome specially with the Bruce Lee statue, bad thing was that not alot of shops open, wonder why
Juanita Torres
This is a nice spot for picture and the store there are owned by really nice people. Good parking and merges with the Chinatown main street.
blair jensen
I expected more for some reason. Several souvenir shops, a bakery, guitar shop, and a restaurant. The whole place was kind of run down.
mary mercado
🎎#Chinese79thMoonFestival🎉 great time with my girlfriends👭 and loved all the poppers🎉🎉 everyone enjoying the #Chinese79thMoonFestival🌚 …
Ron Smith
Such a great neighborhood to walk through, have some great food and look at the shops
Joe Whiteman
Coming from the east coast, I'm more familiar with Chinatown in DC, which is typically lively and upbeat. Chinatown in LA is a lot smaller, and it was practically a ghost town. There were relatively few shops open in the Central Plaza area and only a small handful of people, but the architecture and decor was cool, as it tends to be in Chinatowns across the US. I probably should've ate somewhere around here but I was short on time.
Matthew Buranich
It's a metro station, ultimately. But it has some cool art and cultural pieces incorporated into the design, consistent with the theme. Photo opportunities as well.
Henry Suarez
This is a very fun and vibrant place especially when there are festivities going on! There also good food and fun souvenirs to take home. Take a stroll down Broadway. Ride the Gold Line train.
Clara Cocco
Great place to walk around, hang out with friends or grab a bite to eat! Makes for some fun memories and pretty pictures!
Ryan R
Went here last Saturday for a night festival. There was a lot of food trucks and vendors that evening. It is a unique place to visit as alot of the buildings have that Chinese architecture and they are interesting to see. There was a statue of Bruce Lee which everyone was taking a picture of. There was also a pagoda structure. Not sure if you could go inside it but it was pretty cool to see and take a picture of also. As I was looking around the area, there was a sign that said Rush Hour was filmed here so that was intresting to see as well. Overall it is good to see this place at least once just to see some Chinese culture.
GT Ashby-Phan
Beautiful architecture and great food!
Jay
it was a very nice place. i really wish to go again.. by the way they have AMAZING Phō and Boba if you enjoy any of those!
Jenny S
Los Angeles has a great Chinatown. It’s always fun to walk around, look at shops and find good food to eat. This last time went on Chinese New Year, which actually meant that a lot of shops were closed, but we still managed to leave full and have a lot of great photo memories. Being Chinese New Year there were other events taking place during the day, but we missed out on the annual parade and lion dance :( ah well, next time! We did get a few items at the local shops as well.
Me Avila
Very nice place, small taste of China and it's culture.
Richard Torres
Great place to visit. Also great to grab a drink in the evenings.
Brenda A Perez
Such a beautiful place to walk around & eat!
warren lieu
Where else can you go to do a little kung fu fighting? Great photo op area
GANGIS
The area is fairly quiet with a lot of vacant stores. There seems to be not much going on.
Andrew Ortiz
I thought the place was awsome i went to shoot some pictures for my ig and the people were friendly. I was there on christmas eve a few shops were open and it was still some what busy, which was nice to see people out with family enjoyinh their day. Good vides in that place i recomend the visit.
Mercy Beltran H
There is no words to explain how beautiful this little town is
There so much to learn from this beautiful culture
Lucy Alvarez
It was a very nice first experience. And very beautiful/ colorful place. You don't even know you're in LA.
Juan Solo
Fun cultural experience. By far Chinatown Summer nights or the new year festivals are the best time to enjoy this plaza
S I
Fun old architecture can make for nice photos. There are small shops to buy cheap and fun Asian knick-knacks. Try and flip a coin for good luck at the dry fountain.
Jamecia Brooks
Phoenix bakery has been around since I was a little girl. Their cakes are very good.
Alexander McNulty (BlondieBeats)
It was really cultural and if you are nice erveryone else is kool!

Small China Town, but not much to see except few Chinese shops and Bruce Lee monument.
Isabel Aguilar

Joön Th
Nice place to get closer To Chinese culture in LA.
Ruben Ordonez
Cool place... Some of the shops were close but still awesome. A must see!!!!
DALIA PAL
It's a shame that the square is so well-known that only a few shops are open, I imagine because not many people pass through there.
Nash Holcomb
I’m from the SF Bay Area and SF and LA Chinatowns have very different vibes. That said, LA Chinatown is wonderful and deserves more love, especially since the pandemic began
Christopher Wells
We had a fun time. Saw the Bruce Lee memorial statue, practiced my son's Chinese, and enjoyed perusing the shops and eating at a local bakery. My only complaint was that I expected to be in a crowd of people. It was very empty while we were there.
Michael Brown
Very evocative place. Would have loved to have seen it at night when it would have been a lot more lively, but still managed to soak in some of the atmosphere.
Ingrid Gimena
I liked, and I loved a restaurant near there yang chow restaurant, the best place I have eaten in this trip.
bella marquez
First time here and I enjoyed it. Cute little shops and entertainment.
Nova Kat
I enjoyed the shops, but there is a lot of shops and restaurants that have closed permanently unfortunately.
Conner Drew
Always there when I need the goods for charms, luck and the new year 💕 …
Angelina Anderson Baires
Beautiful. Probably the closest ill ever get to China

Patricia Kuder
Happy New Year with My family on my Sisters Birthday
Butterfly Diary
When I entered a exhibition center , the guy sitting inside gave a detail introduction of the history of Chinatown .
Federico Baldassarre
Quite picturesque, but a bit in the middle of nowhere. The whole neighborhood isn't really tourist or pedestrian friendly, so it's better to go by car, check out the Plaza and leave
Devon Rowland
Place is pretty cool I went to eat at Burgerlord
erickmac88
As far as Chinatown goes, you can't call it a day without visiting Bruce Lee's statue. This place has some awesome stores and awesome food.
Michele Kerr
Had such a great time at the Chinatown Summer Nights. Confetti poppers!! Dragon parade, music, food!! Great cried for young and old
Layla Telle
Beautiful area. Didn't get to enjoy it as much as I like because I came pretty much in the middle of the pandemic. The food is delicious. Great tourist spot area to take pictures.
Gerardo Guzman (G-Shine)
Great place to shop cheap. The location has cleaned up a lot. It's still busier during the weekend so I strongly recommend going g during the week. Clothing for everyone in the family
Keri K
Cute but most shops were not open so it was very quiet
Paola G.
Theres just do happened to be a 5K/10K, Kids run this Satruday that I went. They usher have a huge festival for chinese new years and they host a lot of events actually year round. Theres always some kind of cultural activity happening here and it's so fun in chinatown. The food here and the souvenirs shop is a lot of fun to go through. It's pretty clean and pretty here so it makes for beautiful Instagram pictures. I've often seen models and scenes from movies shot here. Jackie Chan actually filmed the first rush hour around here. Lots of fun history like that.
Ishtar Oushana
Lots of abandoned or closed business. Not a good place for food.
Ron Modro
What a fun part of Los Angeles! Great way to spend an afternoon.
cris rivera
Great place to visit and eat and site see local or tourist
Roberto Sacasa (INFINITO)
Cool :)
Gabriel Ruas Santos Rocha
Such a cool place, it's like traveling outside of Los Angeles! Now, i don't know if it's like going to China, but it's cool enough and there is delicious food all around and interesting stuff.
Ambie Knows Best
We ended up not going to Howlin Fried Chicken because the line was ridiculously long. We found this Ramen Champ place upstairs and decided to eat there. We weren't greated by anyone and took a seat. We weren't offered anything to drink. If I hadn't of asked for the Chicken bowel... Who knows how long it would've been before we were recognized.
The food was ok. I enjoyed the ambience.
Pete Skilton
Really nice looking but not a lot was open and nothing to really do there.
Eric Hernandez
It’s Good Here. Not the best area but has some great food!
amanda g
Really great experience! Definitely a place to explore. Bought a Chinese dress which I'm looking forward to wearing for special occasions.

Melynda Choothesa

Sonia Rodriguez
Love this place. Always went there as a child and now I bring my son's and continue to make more memories. Timeless place
Rod Chittenden
Great location. Most places closed during the day. Looks like evening would be lively.
Long Mac
Old chinatown. Symbolic. Childhood memories. The wishing pond. Bruce Lee. The bakery. It's all good memories from far long ago.
Jose' Palacios
Not much going on this time around. Few gift shops open, restaurant or two, & coffee shop bakery. Bruce Lee statute was nice to see.
Mayuresh Nazare
Feels like you are actually in china. Some of the spots are worth seeing but not everything here is worth seeing.
Arty Gonzalez
A lot of the shops are closed but some are open unique
Mama Jorōgumo
Great place to explore and see some events.
Brandy Murphy
Had a blast
Ann Trout
Very nice in a majorly touristy way
Ana M Ortiz
The smallest Chinatown I’ve seen. I went during the day and a lot of the stores were closed. Maybe it gets better at night.
Vanessa Robles
Great place!!
S Z
Very nicely decorated area with shops, restaurants, and a real feel to it. The area is steeped in history, and has a sense of community.
Eren Erener
Nice place good restaurants reasonable prices
Jason Mckinney
We really enjoyed walking around LA Chinatown. So much Culture here, lots of cool architecture, murals and statues as well as plenty of shops.
If you're looking to do something different and take in some culture then it should be worth the visit.
cynthia Dillingham
Phoenix Bakery is still making awesome cakes.
Nestor Salazar
Lots to see and great aesthetic too
Jennifer Dumlao
Needs to seriously revamp the area ... Things are run down and almost no one around....
Michael T
While there are several examples of Chinese architecture and a number of shops selling cheap touristy-wares, for anyone who has been to China the area feels less like a piece of China and more like a tourist spot taking advantage the culture for commercial purposes.
However if you are looking for Asian goods in LA, this is the place to come. It's a community, but an American community with some Chinese characteristics. Nothing more.
In its favor, the community did organize some street performances to bring some authentic culture to visitors.
Geovanni Padlla
Chinatown Los Angeles a great place with a lot of Chinese people history, culture and oriental architecture.
Claire C Tsao
We're love coming here just to greet s taste of culture.
Kaitlin Preble
Awesome place to walk around and see. There are lots of amazing food options and little stores to shop at.
Ben Jackel
Old LA Chinatown. Looking good, very nice to visit again. Lots of great contemporary art happening here!
Bryant Burns
Delicious! Food is fresh, cooked to order! Busy and fast! Fries are crispy as they should be! Had the No. 10 combo Sourdough Burger! Almost ate the paper wrap! I was so hungry and it was so tasty good!
Manuel Gutierrez
Like the food. It was good experience
Pamela Chautla
Lovely place. You can definitely buy a lot of cute souvenirs. The prices are reasonable, too. Quiet ambience.
Jaz Art
Unique stores and architecture. There is a banner with history of Chinatown and individuals who contributed through the times. Bakeries and teas nearby. Restaurants can be found all on the same street.
JJP
Lots of Chinese shops and restaurants. Has sakura trees too.
Judy Jake
I've been wanting to visit this place but when I went yesterday it was closed. What are the hours here?
Fernando Lengua
I love going to the Phoenix bakery to get butterflies they really are the best. I live in Florida but any chance I get to go to LA I have to go get them.
Valeria Lucas
Came here for Burger lords and I am glad I did! The food was bomb and the ambiance made the whole experience even better. To my surprise it was pretty lonely the night we went so parking was a breeze.
lorena Esquivel
This location is so full of life even during the pandemic. An epic statue of Bruce lee is found in this location. The shops are open now and all of them offer different things. The people are nice. Photo opportunities. Parking not so convenient.
Michael Mullady
Very nice to check out. We went because of the restaurant scene in Freaky Friday (it's actually the first store on the right as you come in from the main entrance, unfortunately was not open as of now though). But it is well worth seeing the multiple stores that are inside. Great architecture, very asthenic.
Roem Delleva
Lots of tropical fruits are available in the sidewalk and at reasonable price. Ilovetheplace.
misskellygrogan
Very cool place for locals and tourists. Plenty of places to buy unique gifts, authentic groceries, and yummy restaurants. It's also close to Union Station so you can use the Metro to get there and avoid parking. Check it out!!
Pyro Pheonyx
Spot was awesome. Got to take pictures with the Bruce lee statue.
JP Roggenkamp
a neo Chinese American meeting place for all types and comers, grab a pastry and enjoy the festive facades of the colorful buildings after checking out the statue of Dr Sun Yat-sen and this plaquard
Psic Gabriela Garcia
It's a nice plaza, although I think they should extend their hour business.
Darren Jones
Cool place to visit and rent a hotel
Mike Paul
Pretty cool spot to walk around enjoying the atmosphere while doing a little shopping and enjoying a good meal.
Amy Matute (Matute. A)
Had the best experience for Chinese New Year
Michelle Yuro
Still a lot of store closures. Still nice to walk thru.
Richard Mejia
Food was Fresh and Good! Great service.
Mikie Gayosso
Great family fun, good shopping and food.
Irene Leung
Chinatown isn't the same as when I was growing up. I was sad to see how Chinatown has changed so much. The shopping center on Hill St used to super busy with a 99 Ranch, Empress restaurant, the Chinese Adult Center and a few other stores.
Today, only 1 store left. I didn't go any farther to look because there wasn't any thing to keep me interested.
When I was growing up, the man and his little monkey was there. The man would grind his accordion and the little monkey would dance for his pennies.
This was once a beautiful place to come and visit. I doubt I would come back to visit any more.
Joanne Wicker
Nice little shops! Fun area to walk around!
Lanette Kumamoto
I like walking through the atmosphere in China town
David Correa
Chinatown was always pack with tours know no one here it's clean some people are friendly
Peter
Still great
HG Mantenimiento
Nice and iconic place to visit in L.A. with a lot of places to shop , eat and take pictures
David Stephens
Rather disappointing as American Chinatowns go, but a few wonderfully kitschy Pagoda like buildings that suggest a different time.
J A
Had a good time with my family. Wish more stores were open or a city map telling us of good locations to visit. Overall good experience.
alexbanu1
Fun shops and friendly atmosphere
Fen Liem
First time come this place.
I like China Town
Good place to look for many products with a lot of shops you can choose and price can negotiate
Ashlyn Boyer
Always interesting to explore, great food, lots of culture, outstanding architecture, and beautiful art.
Master TechPaul
Really like the history of this place. Old buildings and the Bruce Lee statue. Took a picture with it. Also like the Burgerlords Cheeseburgers. Good to walk around and explore the stores.
Rowdy Speaks
We got food from a place called the golden dragon and it was amazing! The employees were nice, they keep their stuff clean and sanitary. They even sanitized the money. The wait was pretty short assuming we got 8 egg rolls and 5 meals ( it was like 16 mins)
khurram zubairi
It was ok the Chinatown in San Fran and Seattle are much better
GlobalHobo
Small shops cool stuff...historic
Angel Jimenez
Good customer service, great food, nice place to visit
Nicolaas Dewald-Aranda
It's cute. A lot of random items on sale. There are some good bakeries in the area as well.
Cristal Guerrero
Nice place only bad thing they close shops to early so don't go after 7pm everything is closed . You can only walk around but you can't but chinese souvenirs .
justin cepress
Love walking around and looking with my daughter we have so much fun around DTLA little Tokyo is cool too
Joyce Nelson
Best food authentic, served hot, cooked to perfection. Servers were courteous and warned about extremely hot serving plates and spices. Which I really appreciated. Food is so good that was a line outside. Make reservations at if you can or you'll have at least a 20-minute wait. Well worth it
luis jimenez
Always enjoyable ,Chinatown, has been one of my favorite places to walk around in Los Angeles,it's the number one crime neighborhood in LA,so b advised usually ,rule of thumb ,don't start none, won't b none.use common sense ,how and where u park walk ...don't get caught slipping..don't look like a victim and u won't b one
Kirsten Hart
The atmosphere has an eerily beautiful charm. I see this place becoming a hot spot for artists.
Yvonne L Sauceda
Last time I visited Chinatown was about 35yrs. Let me just say, it hasn't changed it is still beautiful.
Angel Gonzalez
Although my son,Moses , and I are native to Los Angeles we felt like tourists on a small getaway. China town central plaza has unique architecture, friendly vendors and as you walk around the smells of different incense and Chinese cuisine are all around you. We bought a cake from the Phoenix bakery, and took plenty of pictures .
Daniel Santillan Jr. (BahaWolf)
Always nice to swing by here and take a look at the scenery this time of year because of the lunar new year. Not to mention the good food at Foo Chow.
Shubhendra Singhal
Grt attraction to see chinese culture
David Mindel
Fresh, tasty, large portions. Had Buddha's Delight and veggie tried rice, enough for 3 of us and still had to take some back.
J B.
Beautiful place to visit if you are in town! A lot of shops around the area
Steven Sookraj (rasamasala)
It was pretty cool as a sight-seeing location. It was mostly authentic Chinese shops with cool traditional Chinese wear. They had a nice Bruce Lee statue and a cool walkway with the red lantern balls hanging overhead. We passed through during the day, but I can only imagine how nice it looks at night. I also hear that they have Majong night there in the streets too. It's worth a visit, I think, but in my experience, we only passed through in like 10 minutes as it was mostly closed. Oh yeah, and the famous restaurant from Rush Hour is there too!
John Ramirez
Best day to visit China town, is on Sunday afternoon. Lots of food, n shopping stores. Plenty of people. It's fun.
Nicole Lam
I love this place! Food is good (if you come on weekends), and the clothes are cheap! Of course, the clothes are not Macy's quality, but it is fun to just go on a cheap hunt sometimes!
cKarina Rodriguez
It was okay, good place to go shopping and walk around. We went on a weekday so not much to see or do.
Dionisio Tafoya
This place gets packed. Especially for summer nights but there are tons of vendors and tons of food.
Lots of lovely entertainment and confetti. Very noisy so be prepared if you are a home body.
Exceptional exploration opportunities and a way to have some pretty decent fun with the family and not spend too much money.
derryl mensah
Great place for food drinks and everything general.
This is a good place to socialize and eat and drink and walk around. The scenery is really delightful, I came here with a bunch of friends last week for the Fourth of July.
We were able to enjoy ourselves, and we were able to see what the lady had to offer. We had exceptional time and we will definitely be back.
CycleNerd88
Dope spot. Great for photo shoots and 1st dates. Hella Pokemon stops too.
Eduardo Maurizi (Personal)
Beautiful place, must visit.
Pablo Gallegos
Concert at Grand Star Jazz Club was great.
Stephanie Portales
Super friendly, fun place to visit and shop! Got great souvenirs to bring back to Texas!
Sherry J
Nice place to walk around and enjoy an afternoon.
Jerry Jarak
I dropped by Phoenix Bakery for their famous vanilla cake with strawberry filling.
I used to eat their cake on a weekly basis when I was younger, but since moving out of town, this is my first visit in probably 30 years.
Disappointed...how difficult is it to start with fresh cake?
You just don't know how impossible it is to convince your kids how great this used to be, when everyone is choking on their first bite and begging for a glass of milk. I was embarrassed! We tossed the $32.00 round-cake right in the trash.
Drier than a brand new sink sponge.
We will try again in another 30 years!
Carl Ballard
Loose yourself for a few hours. Buckets of knick-knacks to browse and buy. Good places for Chinese eats and delicacies.
Sam Li
good to visit here, very typical Chinese constructions and some histories sites nice view , also some Chinese restaurant there are nice
von raees
Diploma performance in China Town. Sooooo fun!!!
wanderlustandsparkle
I love exploring this area I always find something interesting to photograph.
Megan Coburn
We enjoyed our time in Chinatown! It was super fun to walk through and see all the stores. The sidewalk vendors were very nice, and had a lot of interesting things to eat. We came toward the end of a Sunday afternoon, and things were winding down just a bit, so we got to enjoy ourselves in a relatively uncrowded atmosphere. I am glad I came with a large group. I wouldn't have felt comfortable here by myself.
Jay
It's a nice place to go and shop around. Little shops with lots of trinkets, clothing, accessories, souvenirs, collectibles, artifacts like pottery or display art for the home, home decor, it's a cultural treasure cove. Opens a bit later in the mornings, but still worth a visit during the day.
Angel Rubio
Best place to explore in Chinatown it is very peaceful.
Stephen K.
Chinatown is still my favorite Sunday spot to walk and browse all the wonderful shops. Every price is up for negotiation as long as you bring cash.
luis l
It's interesting to see once. But all the gift shops are the same. I would recommend little Tokyo instead.
Alex Salcedo
Awesome pre covid!!! There's a good nightlife, and daytime places to eat and shop. They hold an awesome Chinese New Year on the main plaza and they have other art and food events throughout the year. It's a fun place to visit
Ben V
Had lunch at Full Moon Restaurant. Free parking at rear.
I M
Dope spot. Try Blossom restaurant.
Scott C
BEAUTIFUL!!! Was there at midnight... Very few people around. The lights and feel of the plaza was really cool. Great photo spot at night. If it was crowded it daylight it probably would have not felt the same. There are several adjacent plazas that have different suspended lantern lighting that are worth going to for photos
Thiện Thành Nguyễn
Even when the weather is quite hot, it is cool and windy when standing in this area. Good decor, etc.
Alonso Zepeda
Nice place; I can only imagine how awesome it was during its early years when everything was a novelty full of people. I can not stop thinking of Taiwan how amazing and interesting it must be to experience the real culture and traditions of China in Taiwan the legitimate China.
joel sandoval
Place looks very dirty and abandoned
Travis Williamson-Hall
This plaza is pretty much dead since the pandemic hit. All places of public gathering are the same, but the plaza has the distinction of being a favorite spot for the red-shirted Public Safety ***holes to flex their "picked on as an adolescent" energy that they just have to exercise. They're almost rabid about someone plugging into the few available power outlets that exist right by the quarter amusement rides for children, by the large pool with fountain.
Joe on the Go !
Great location and amazing selection of stores.
Reza I
Pretty big selection of random stuff cheaply priced. Don't expect top quality but the pop up vendors and some of the smaller shops are even open to bargaining. I found a large spread between the food places. Definitely hit and miss, when they missed you and everyone you share a bathroom with would know about it for a week minimum but when they hit boy did they hit. Food's so exceptionally authentic it makes returning completely worth the risk.

Nice place, you can walk and find stranger things like kitKat matcha and matcha Candy. Is cleaner than downtown

Comercial area, maybe at night is more crowded. The temple close the area is open in a very limited hours.

It's a good place to hang out with your friends. I met a friend there and it was perfect. There are many tourist there but not overbearing. There are your traditional shops about and there are many places to eat. Real authentic Chinese food. Parking is 5.00 @most lots and .25 cents for the meter for 30 minutes. There was also a farmer's market. Easy public transportation on many corners. You have a mixture of natives and out of town so. Also I saw aspiring models and actor's using the backdrop scenery for head shot. There's also American food as well. Metro station too.

Nice architecture. Pretty good food places. The shops close early in the afternoon

Great little whole in the wall ally. I’m not from the area but overall until you get to the ally things look pretty sketchy. By sketchy I mean the buildings look pretty beat up the area smells and a lot of rough people roaming around. Once you get to this area though the shops and owners are all amazing and you can find plenty of things you wouldn’t expect for great prices. I was also surprised by how lively it was. There’s also some toys for kids to play on, I’m not sure if they work because I seen the parents pushing the child but I wasn’t paying close attention. Overall I’d say if you’re in the area you should check it out and make your own opinion! You may enjoy it and I hope you do as I did.

Memories of my loving father. I just came to get a piece of their amazing cake.

Place has been cleaned up a bit and the restaurants seem to be better. Gentrification is definitely driving some upgrades so you may not like some of the improvements. At least it is safer and cleaner than before. You can still get way better food elsewhere.

Beautiful places to walk and photograph, a lot of delicious places to dine and wine but very much over priced. I love keeping up with my walk exercise here and after a half an hour walk you spot so many street vendors that you run out of there or treat yourself to sweet natural cut up fruit. . .yes it goes this way because when it gets past over 95° water is not enough some days 😅

I recommend visiting Old Chinatown so that one can get a glimpse of one of the many communities that make up LA.

Everything you need, except for tooth brushes, right here.

Cool Area! Was there for All Day I Dream Festival.

Chinatown is beautiful. It’s sad to see a lot of shops closed or not open as often due to COVID, but they are still making it happen. As gorgeous as ever
J Zayd Alvarez
Great place to see some of the Chinese culture.

Always a fun visit checking out the little shops. I always pick up some of the little poppers to give to the neighbor kids so they can piss off all the other neighbors. Highly recommend for a good time. Check out the Bruce Lee statue too, the guy is a legend. I do miss the turtles in the wishing fountain and took off a star in memory of them.

Small but cute plaza marking the center of Chinatown. The LA Chinatown is pretty small but this square is worth a quick stop if you're walking around in the area.
Daysy Gutierrez
It was nice to visit this place. Thought it would be bigger though. Lots of shops closed down but food was great.
Jessica Effendi
Looks deserted. May be due to covid and after effect.

Especially fun when there is a DJ event! Great vibe and lighting around you when you're ready to break your pandemic isolation at a street party.

This small square packs a great punch. A really good one two shot of culture and authentic Chinese vibes. There are great shops and great restaurants around here. It's a great place to shoot because of all of the decor and architecture.
Zander Vessels
Not only does it have the best burger place in all of Chinatown, they already started the Lunar New Year festivities early so kids hand a chance to play with the confetti poppers. Awesome place with a brand new stationary store that's owned by some very nice people.

A very traditional Asian place, lot's of spots for Artistic photoshoot. I went here on Sunday and seem like all shops are closed.
Angelica Velazquez
Loved visiting this plaza on my recent trip to LA! It had small shops with cute merch and a couple restaurants to choose from. We ended up eating at the New Dragon Seafood restaurant while there. It's a hole in the wall restaurant but I highly recommend it if you love Chinese food.

This is the most scenic part of China Town (in my opinion). Amazing architecture, cool shops and museums. All in a small little square. There are lots nearby for $4 day parking. It's also fun to walk around the streets and check out the little shops and take our restaurants and eat some dumplings or boba smoothies.

Great outdoor place. Wish more stores were open
lisa sunwaye
The food is delicious. Moderately priced. What I also loved about it . it's a great place to talk or meet up with a long lost friend. Service is excellent. They have a lunch menu and of course they serve dinner. You will enjoy! Parking is available.
Craig Catimon
Good food, great atmosphere, lots of history! Make sure to say hi to Bruce

Really amazing spot. tons to see and do. LOTS of restaurants near by to taste wonderful food.
I love coming down here to shop or get a bite to eat.
Really amazing Los Angeles culture.
I used to work in Chinatown and though i hated the commute I loved the community.
If you have a chance to come down here, check it out. You can easily spend a good portion of an afternoon here.
Lots of people come for the dim sum but they have great shops, furniture and lots to do.
Parking is easy. paid lots or metered parking.
Anabell J Sanchez
Crowded bakery, only one person does everything. Plaza was kept very clean; we were able to take nice pictures.
Warren Scipio
Very cool place to just walk around and check out shops, amazing tea places too
Warren S
Good food, good value for lunch specials Monday - Friday, spacious/ comfortable, friendly servers and its own (free) parking lot.
Klaier O
A good representation of the Chinese culture.
Chance Gonzalez
It was very interesting…Lots to see
Lisa Flumerfelt
It's fun to come to the little shops. The red lanterns that are strung throughout the plaza are beautiful! Go around the corner to Phoenix Bakery and try their baked goods. They are known for their strawberry cake...so good! Also check out Foo chow restaurant across the street. Food is good. Area is just a bit rundown and very mellow during the week.

Chinatown LA is a decent place to go to try asian cuisine, admire the decor and purchase souvenirs. We went during the weekdays and the place looked a bit dead so I would recommend going during the weekend if you would like a more lively crowd or possibly public shows. overall is a good place to visit if you are looking for nice souvenirs and food.
Karla Palumbo
First time that I came to Chinatown festival, I like it super fun, free entrance and family friendly bit super crowed. The only thing I would of like to have seen the actual Chinese festivity, what i seen was more Hispanic music, and it seems like it was Hispanic festival more then anything but otherwise it was fun and different, atmosphere was GREAT. Something to do for your weekend.
Shani Misir-Najera
I guess it was an off time when we visited. Very pretty and nice courtyard. It was empty and looked like no one went there anymore which was a shame because it's so pretty. A lovely old man painted portraits of my girls for a very reasonable price.
Juanita Vela
A peaceful walk reimagining history here, though it makes me sad that this place is not more well taken care of. Many, many authentic items to see, enjoy, buy, & experience. Had a great day!
Rachel Davila
Coming to Chinatown is always like a Treasure Hunt for me! I always seem to find a special store tucked away between other businesses, the vendors are always so welcoming and warm. I just love it! 🦋 …

Hey, girls cum first. I'm down with that.
Lissette Lemus
It's really nice too shop for nice sandals, toys or other stuff you may have in mind. Also great place too buy live fresh poultry or seafood. Great place too come down. They got lil great shops too buy stuff..
carla tobias
Friends is a great mom and pop eatery. The orange chicken shrimp is heavenly to say the least.
Bryant Lopez
Overall this will always have a place in my heart, the area is extremely dense with culture, history, food, and entertainment. The locals, if you can find any, are the nicest and warm hearted individuals I have met and are always willing to have a conversation with you. Great place to bring families, you can walk along LA State Park and then head over to the plaza to buy some Chinese/Asian artifacts. Definitely worth a gander!
Persis Boston
A very cool area, burgerlords is great!!!
Sheryl Klein
Not wonderful like it used to be. Many stores were closed (it was Sunday) and there was a lot of trash on the ground. The wishing fountain just liked sad and kind of disgusting. We used to come here when I was young and then we brought our kids here when they were young. The bakery was open and it was clean and the staff was friendly and efficient.
HayHay Johnson
Hummm well it's not for lingering around type of area. Get your photos and videos an be done. Not exactly what the vibe is for sure but not a good area for family fun. A lot of the homeless, drug and stuff I knew I would see when visiting California but it's not exactly the place to just go hang out for the fun of it.
Samantha Wiggins
I was really excited about going to Chinatown because I had seen so many nice pictures and it looked like a really fun place. However when me and my friend got there, almost everything was closed. Of course i thought this was rather strange seeing as it was 11:45 in the morning. So I asked one of the few stores that was open (this happened to be a burger shop, who stated that they had chinatowns best burgers, which after trying one of their double cheese burgers I can agree with that statement) and they told me that the shops open whenever they like. Which was rather disappointing. Even tho most things were closed I still enjoyed the environment and the walk there from the train station was a pleasant one.

Very helpful, very awesome cake. Come here for your one stop Birthday needs!!!

I lived in Huntington Beach for 5 or 6 year when i was young my parents never took us anywhere, since i moved from Huntington i have been back to Cali many times but never went to Chinatown untill now but nothing compare to what i have seen in movies every was close a few shops open and a few markets open, and few restaurants other than that nothing to brag about
Alex Zonneveld
Little old but still nice place to by
Sam Vincent
Phoenix Bakery is one of the finest with ready-made cakes. Reasonably priced best tasting a pleasure to eat. I have been buying my cakes there for 45 years. Never disappointed. At times there is a line. But they have enough cakes to meet any need. I must to try!
Maya Kile
Wonderful as always first time back since before the pandemic. I hope more ships open up is such a staple in LA.
Monica Duran
My experience was amazing. People are so nice. Firts time there so I really liked. I found everything I wanted to buy.
Paul Nguyen
The place is authentic. In the shopping area the prices are all negotiable. Some places are cheaper than others for same product. Food is very good. The places looks aged but that's also the charm. My kids loved it.
Art Zamora Jr
Beautiful. The original architecture is breathtaking. Sadly all the small buisnesses are closing or they are already gone. Very cool Bruce lee bronze statue. Historic district that needs tlc. Dont forget to visit the Bar/Restaurant from Rush Hour .
Jay Kiew
Not much to do / see here. In and out in an hour.
