My mom and I are visiting NY from Ohio and decided to try Johnny’s for dinner. We absolutely LOVED everything about it. The staff was so warm and inviting. Everyone was very kind even with how busy they were. We had the fried ravioli, chicken Caesar salad, stuffed rigatoni Alfredo, pizza and meatballs. They had 3 guys working the pizza oven. One tossing the dough, one topping the dough and another cooking the pizza. The rigatoni tasted like homemade noodles and the Alfredo sauce was OUT OF THIS WORLD! I really felt like I was having dinner at my Italian grandmother’s house!

Crust is thin and crispy. Sauce is sweet and tangy. The cheese is just right. They put the sauce over the cheese to keep the dough from getting soggy. All this leads to the best pizza I have come across so far. They don't do slices, whole pies only. This is so you get the freshest slice of pizza possible. Wait a minute or two before digging in because the pizza will burn the roof of your mouth. I've done it many times. Make sure you bring cash or an debit card for the ATM machine. Try the extra cheese pie as well. My friends and I usually get a regular and an extra cheese. It's the best of both worlds.

Pepperoni and cheese pies - muah! Chef’s kiss! One of the best pizzerias I’ve ever visited! Dine in if you can. Waitresses were cool to talk to and you can order a beer while you wait for your pies. Will absolutely be coming back here.

I’ve been going to this place for over 20 years and I have never been disappointing. I’ve gone there to celebrate, baptisms, first communion, confirmations, birthdays, etc. with up to 20 and they have never skipped a beat. The pizza is always perfect thin crispy. The sauce is amazing. We just love this place. Personally, I think this is the best pizza in New York.

Dave Portnoy gave this spot a 9.1 - an outrageously high score on his scale - and so I had no choice but to stop in and order a large plain pie. Well - my first 9.1 did not disappoint! It’s literally magic. I’ve been to thousands of local pizza spots - dough, sauce, cheese - nothing different here - but somehow when they open that oven, and pull out your pie, the smell is different. The look is different. The taste brings you back to another time. It’s simply the best pizza I’ve ever tasted. Hands down. It lives up to the hype and more. Just walk in, have cash in hand, order there and eat it there immediately - it’s an experience we should all have. The best!

Well worth the 20 minute drive from Scarsdale and also the struggle to look for parking in this area. The pizza is tasty - the crust is thin and crispy and just as it should be. We loved the bruschetta and the garlic bread as well. The service is friendly. The ambience reminds me of a warm and friendly neighbourhood diner. Will be back ! Update : We returned on 8th feb 2020and had as much of a good time and good food as the previous time. Saturday evenings seem to be super busy. We returned May 14th ! Still as awesome 🤩

Nothing bad can be said of this Pizzaria-- it's credentials go far beyond my measley review (and longer than I've been alive (I'm 42)) Super-thin, sauce on top, mix of mozzarella and provolone (for structure I think) this pizza comes out hot, crispy, and straight. A average adult can easily eat a large pie to themselves with enough hunger. Never had a bad pie in 40 years. The rest of the menu also includes classics done Johnny's-only style (garlic bread to pastas) The only problem you're gonna encounter is the line/wait. If you get takeout be prepared to get that pie home ASAP-- JH0NNYS PIZZA EXPERIENCE IS SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT OUT THE OVEN vs 10 PLUS DRIVE HOME-- what I would suggest is to arrive early get home quick --You won't be disappointed--

Been eating Johnny’s pizza for more than 60 years. During the past couple of years, I too often am served a pie that is too crispy…it snaps like a cracker. In addition, too many pies now have little cheese and much sauce. Johnny's Pizzeria has some of the best pizza I've ever had and I'm born and raised in NYC so that's saying something. Everything is fresh! Delicious sauce, pepperoni that tastes handmade, and a nice crispy crust. Your plate will be empty in this place. We can't wait to go back for some of their entrees as everything we saw pass by our table looked so good. Plus the service was wonderful. We were taken care of for sure! Definitely a must if you're in/close to Mt. Vernon.

The pizza is amazing here. The dough and crust are crunchy and taste great. The mozzarella cheese taste very neutral and the pizza sauce is real good. They put grated mozzarella cheese on the pie. I get my pie without the grated mozzarella cheese.

Some say this is the best pizza you can get. I eat a lot of pizza and this was okay. Johnny's pizza is more like a neapolitan, rather than NY pizza. Neapolitan pizza is better. The restaurant could have gotten a 4 star review, had it not been for the 50 minute wait to get a table and then 70 minute wait for our pizza. Everyone in the dining area was waiting for their pizza, looking at perturbed as we were. The appetizers were also pretty bad. Garlic bread and fried hot peppers were not worth ordering. You can usually tell how good a pizzaria is by their garlic bread or knots..

This pizza is as close to authentic Italian pizza that is prepared IN ITALY, as you can get in the Westchester NY area. It’s up there with Di Farra’s in Brooklyn. I think it’s the simple quality of the ingredients and of course the way it’s prepared. You don’t get slices here - you order small pies. It’s cash only. Enjoy and savor that crispy delicious pizza. It’s worth the trip.

We tried this joint after watching Portnoy give them a 9.1 I was hoping to be impressed and I WAS! THIS PIZZA IS GREAT! It lived up to the hype. It's a thin, crisp crust, sauced on top but the sauce is kind of baked in with the cheese. It's not a watery sauce. Totally DELICIOUS! Overall, it was EXCELLENT!

CRISPY!!!! I came across this place through Dave Portnoy’s Barstool review and when he said these slices were crispy, I had to come and try it myself. Thin and crispy crust are my go to. Before coming, please note that this place is cash only and they do not sell by the slice. To be honest, that’s fine. You want the pie. You want more than one slice. They have dine in space which is a nice feel. They have two sides to their dining area. The locale has a ton of memorabilia of their past loved ones so it’s a very warm and welcoming spot. We didn’t dine in so my review is mostly on the service, taste and overall experience. Totally satisfied and I KNOW I want to come back, and will even bring my mom with me, another crispy slice fan so see you guys soon!

So, I lived in Mount Vernon for over three years. never once have I gone to Johnny’s pizzeria, until tonight. For an avg person that is looking for an overall pizza, this is the best pizza you’ll ever have. It’s not too thin, balance of cheese and sauce, and crispy in the right places. If you are looking for a nice greasy pizza, extra cheesy oozing everywhere, this isn’t the place. I am picky and love greasy pizza with big pepperonis lol. This place had super tiny pepperoni and I literally could eat the whole large pie with no struggle or even slight hesitation. Giving it 4 stars because my expectation was different, cash only, little parking and the lady on the phone was a little rushy. I get that though, they were super busy and I understand fast paced environments and how it can affect tone and give stress.

This place makes their round pies with a killer thin & crispy crust. Interesting thing is they use sliced mozzarella which does melt differently than shredded, so you will notice the difference as you bite into it. Sauce is straight forward tomato (not sweet) with a touch of garlic powder & salt (at least I thought) with a light amount of olive oil drizzled along the top. Their grandma pie with "basil juice" about the same as round pie although sauce is "striped" along the top of a thicker cheesed square crust, also with good crisp. All in all, the pizzas are not heavy. You can have 2 to 3 slices and not feel weighed down at the end. Personally I wish the sauce had more flavor (sweeter tomatoes, oregano, sage, rosemary, et al) but still gets the job done. You still enjoy the pizza. 👍👍

Hands down! This is the best pizza in NY. No one can beat these guys. Perfectly thin, not salty, not sweet just a perfect well crafted pie. I drive from the Bronx to Mt Vernon at least once a week for a cheese pie and chicken parm. Chicken parm is to die for. Our 9 year old daughter says this is the best and she is absolutely right! Call ahead, take the trip to Johnny’s.

One of the best pizza places in the New York Metropolitan area. Amazing quality, taste, flavor, and crisp. Other menu items are great as well from pasta, to chicken dishes. But... the pizza has the crown and is absolutely to die for. Only downside to the restaurant is the waitresses are usually rude.

Really, really good pizza that reminds me of the great classic way pizza was made when I was a child...customer service is superb....warm, friendly and attentive. Food makes it to the table fast. The only downside is how difficult it is to find parking, so be prepared for that. Eat the pizza on-site. It's so much better fresh out of the oven. Noticed that they even have gluten free pizza.

Appetizers are great too. Only negative is that they only accept cash. Everywhere in the world accepts cards nowadays so they should get on board. I'm sure they lose a lot if business just because of this alone.

I've had a ton of pizza all over NY/NYC. What else do you eat being raised in Queens? There's a lot of good pizza around. But Johnny's makes some "damn good" pizza. I enjoyed every crispy bite I had here. My wife and I (mostly me) finished a large pie b/w the 2 of us. I highly recommend going and eating here or fresh as I don't think pizza travels well.

No parking! The biggest turn off in the world. My mother says this is the best pizza ever!! Original from Third Street and Fourth Avenue in Mt. Vernon, it has feed thousands of families over the years with great thin crust pizza and southern Italian cooking. Cozy Italian style restaurant. Like home cooking. All types of pizzas. Great salads. Pizzaria and restaurant. Wide selection of foods. Family owned for generations. Rated very high. Decent place. Parking is difficult. Cordial staff. Go during the week. The place gets jammed. Moderately priced. Desserts are good too. It is worth a trip with the family. CASH ONLY!

Small restaurant located in a sort of alley way next to a gas station. Not visible when driving by. Limited menu choices. Had the regular pie, which you can only buy pies, not slices. Also had a side of meatballs and pasta fagioli soup. Pizza crust is paper thin with many burnt spots, so it's not a common pizza taste. I enjoyed it. Didn't care for the meatballs although they said they make them fresh theirselves. Soup was good but they used larger pasta. Staff was very pleasant. I walked there so didn't I pay attention to the parking situation. Not much street parking since it's on busy W Lincoln Ave. I believe it's cash only.

I’ve been a customer and fan of Johnny’s for many years, eating there a few times a year for the past 20 plus years. Last night just wasn’t that good. The pies were lukewarm at best. The salad was good as usual. But, I ask you, should 2 pies, one plain, one with sausage, a salad for 5, and 6 cans of soda cost $80? The prices there are just off the charts. For thin crust pizza with barely any cheese, very little sauce, and even fewer sausage on one pie? Me thinks not. In any normal pizza shop, the bill would be half that.

"This is the best pizza hands down". I live in Hawthorne and was introduced to Johnny's Pizza at a very young age by my family that owns a business in Mt. Vernon for over 30 years. I've been to every so call pizza spot in The Tri-State area there really is nothing better it's depressing. My relatives from Italy say it's better than some places back home but there other places in Italy that are better. I don't understand how that can be possible it's that addictive, so good that I can't imagine something else that my taste buds can handle from pizza. They are very nice people. To all those that say they are rude because they know there pizza is the best, NOT TRUE. You try running that mad house with all those orders when it gets busy and make sure the pizza comes out perfect every time. My suggestion is if you are looking to feed your cravings and/or addiction of Johnny's try getting there during the day like on a Tuesday or Wednesday with a small party each get a pie, eat and get out or put your order in way in advance so when you get there it's ready to go just be on time. Because you also want it hot and it will just becoming out of the oven, TRUST ME they don't play around with that. It's all apart of the Johnny's experience.

I was on my own and my first time here. They had me wait at least 30 mins for a small pie. People who came after me got served before me. Waitress kept walking past me without acknowledging the elephant in the room. It was exhausting. The pizza was different and good.

I was on hold for exactly 20 minutes and 46 seconds before being hung up on...however before being hung up I heard life stories, customer stories, stories...you couldn't even imagine...stories that I dare not say over the phone...pizza was pretty good, it's just a shame I had to call, be on hold for 20 minutes with no result, drive there for another 15 mins, hangout for another 30 minutes for a pizza. I was having pizza in Brooklyn at a place called DiFara's which is World known. It is some of the best pizza in the country. A woman stopped me and told me that if I wanted even better Pizza that I should try Johnny's in Mount Vernon. I admit I was skeptical. Difara's is the standard by which all others is measured. Johnny's is the best pizza I have had outside of Brooklyn. Thin crust regular pie is awesome. The Char will make your mouth water for days. I would give it 10 Stars if I could.

don't go here for pizza, think of an Italian pie. Thin crisp crust, cheese and sauce on top. Absolutely delicious. Don't go if your in a hurry, its very busy on a Saturday night, parking is difficult in that area, but it's well worth it. I will go again.

Worth the wait!! We were rookies on this visit to Johnny's and only ordered a pie. What we should have done was start with the house salad because the wait for the pizza was lonnnnggggg. We waited about 45 mins for our Original Pie (Christian's Favorite) and wanted to eat our arm off. Definitely a delicious pie but remember to order an appetizer in the meantime.

This is a unique place. No slices, cash only, closed Sun & Mon, and for 2 weeks in the Summer, barely smiling waitresses, yet crowded all the time. Why? It's Pizza like you get in Italy, with very slight Americanization. I imagine that this is what Pizza was like when this place opened in the 1940's. It's thin but still chewy, with just the right amount of char, and absolutely delicious. I split a large with my son and we finish it. That's how thin and good it is, and we try other places and always say "good, but not as good as Johnies' (except for one place in Arezzo, Tuscany, but that's another story) Not much else worth eating, maybe a soup or basic salad. Go for the Pizza. You'll be hooked.
