Reviews of Via Ghibellina

Came in within the last hour before they closed. Got the pizza and pasta. Both delivered in flavor and consistency. Desert was one of the best! Will have to come back for their lobster specials. Overall amazing service. :)

Sorry to say that my experience here was disappointing. I had read good things about this place and we were there at a busy time on a Saturday evening which may have contributed to the problems, but I do think they should be able to handle the pressure of a busy weekend evening. We shared the Fritto Misto as an appetizer and it was well prepared, delicately fried, came out promptly with a tasty red sauce. I had the Cacio a Pepe pasta as my main course. The dish came out cold and the sauce was kind of watery and the proportions were off.
We also ordered the asparagus as a side dish and it never came. My husband had to the mushroom risotto which used ordinary button mushrooms and it was underwhelming.
In fairness, the hostess gave us two complementary glasses of wine as an apology for the poor service and she also brought out the asparagus and didn’t charge us although we were almost finished with our meal by then. At least she made a sincere effort to try to set things right. Other than that, it is a pleasant room and appears to be quite popular. Hopefully they will get the service issues straightened out.

Via Ghibellina is an awesome hidden gem and was a perfect addition to an Italian themed evening in DC for my husband and I. We were in the area tasting Italian liqueurs at Don Ciccio and Figli and were ready for dinner. We walked around the block and decided to stop in here. The restaurant is rather unassuming from outside, but as soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted and shown to our table. Everyone we interacted with on the staff was very kind. One gentlemen by the name of Rodrigo, I believe, asked what our general preferences were for Italian food and then gave great recommendations. I noticed he was attentive to all the tables in this manner, which was really great to see. It should be noted this is a small to average sized establishment and was moderately busy while we were there. We ordered caprese to start accompanied by Chianti and then two homemade pasta dishes (beef with noodles and lamb with noodles) for our entrees. They also gave us homemade bread that was a perfect compliment to the caprese. Everything was very fresh and delicious. What may seem like rather simple dishes were distinctly flavorful and well put together. We ordered tiramisu for dessert and while I would have like the lady fingers a little more soaked in espresso, it was still really good. I would definitely come back and you should give this place a chance the next time you are in the neighborhood. Thanks! :-)

Had an amazing dinner here at Via Ghibellina! Super lovely restaurant in Ivy City near Planet Fitness and Mom’s.
This is some of the best and most authentic Italian we’ve had yet in the city. We got the arancini appetizer and they gave a DELICIOUS flatbread with it as well. I got the house Chardonnay, which was good, though a little more light than I wanted.
For meals, we got the pappardelle con ragú di agnello (braised lamb, green olives, tomato, grana padano and mint) and pici alla carretiera (garlic, olive oil, light spicy tomato sauce, pepperoncino, basil). Both were amazing, though I think both us agree the pappardelle took the crown for the night. The pici was wonderful, but maybe slightly too spicy. Be cautious if you’re not big into spice on that dish!
Aside from the food, the service was incredible. Everyone was kind and genuine. One of the staff there actually saw that our table was a little wobbly upon sitting, and immediately asked to fix it for us.
We will gladly be returning and highly recommending!

I’d give it more stars if I could. Absolutely fantastic Italian food. Great service, perfect wine recommendations, all in a nice cozy ambience. I highly recommend this place!!
David Banks
This food was amazing. Every single thing. Very attentive staff as well. Cannot wait to come back.

Run, don't walk, to Via Ghibellina! Everything is amazing but the Fritto Misto appetizer is a must! As a full-blooded Italian-American from Rhode Island, a state full of authentic Italian restaurants, I struggled for awhile to find authentic Italian restaurants in the DMV. After Napoli Pasta bar so sadly closed, I found Via Ghibellina! The atmosphere, food, quality, management and staff are all immaculate!
Daniel Stefanus
Incredible! Best Italian in DC! Francesco is the funniest, best waiter I’ve had in years. So excited to come back. If you come for brunch get the Carbonara and the French Toast!
Andres Mendoza
Food was amazing and service by wait staff was excellent. I had the veal ravioli and it was great. The ravioli pasta was on point with a great ratio of meat and cheese perfectly packed into the ravioli. I also like the bread they serve as you sit down. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. I am definitely coming back and will bring some friends as I highly recommend.
Murch King
My first time here! The food was excellent and the service, top notch! Kelly took care of us, but you have that family feel as the manager and chef came out to make our experience was beyond reproach. This accompanied with World Class food, made this a place I must visit again! You won't be disappointed.
Mary Claire Palczynski
Lemon chicken was delicious! Standard bar cocktails available but nothing special, would recommend to others.
Eric Finch
My steak was absolutely amazing. The bread was really tasty, and while we didn't have the pizza, if it is made out of that bread, I bet it is divine. As for the other food items, they ranged from ok to no way. It was very disappointing, because I felt like everything was cooked perfectly, but the flavors were just not something that I enjoyed. I would definitely go a second time, because the food was cooked so well. I just want to find something with flavors that I like. Also, the staff was incredibly attentive and nice.
Rob G
My wife never finishes her meals, but she SMASHED the Filet Mignon. The balsamic sauce that's on the steak is freaking amazing!
I had the NY Strip, medium, it was delicious as well. But when i return I'm getting the Filet ❤️
Kevin Boluyt
The pizza is fresh and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend any of their pizzas. I didn't need to eat the whole thing in one sitting, but I definitely did eat it all in one sitting!
Tracie
Delicious food, great customer service and great ambiance 🗣 I went with my partner for a summer treat, get out of the house and try something new. The environment is calm and the service is very attentive without being obnoxious. The drinks were tasty and light but refreshing. will definitely be coming back again and again! …
Ashley Yang
Service was great! We had two dogs with us and it was kind of drizzling outside, but they were still able to accommodate us with outdoor seating. We ordered a pizza to share, an arugula salad, pasta and steak. We loved everything! One of the steak dish was made well done, when ordered medium rare, and the waiter was nice enough to take it back to the kitchen and make another one. Would definitely come back again!!

Awesome chicken and pizza spot in the neighborhood.
Christina Maiello
Came for happy hour $10 pizza! The dough is soft and delicious. Pizza is full of flavor. Me and my boyfriend 2 pizzas and a salad. The perfect amount of food. Definitely go here for some quality Italian food.
Michael Toussaint
The food here is pretty good and the service is great. It's also a very comfortable environment just a little chilly out on the temperature side.
Jerry Luciano
One of the best meals I’ve ever had that is Italian. Not your typical Italian food – much more “Gourmet“ that I am used to or like. Typically not my style of place, but I decided to go out on a limb and ordered the lobster and crab ravioli with a side of linguini with clam sauce.
It is certainly a different crowd, and the atmosphere is pleasant. Very upscale – chic.
Most likely need a reservation on popular like Friday Saturday Sunday. We were there Friday and it was packed. You can eat at the full length bar or get a table.
4 stars because the food, while good, was a bit on the pricey side for the portion size.
J. Choi
Stumbled upon this place after visiting a nearby store. Had two pizzas, sausage & prosciutto, and both were great! My personal favorite was prosciutto pizza. Pizza dough was on the chewy side so preferences may vary. Clean interior.
Giovanna Pino
I arrived to my reservation early and decided to stop at the bar for a drink during happy hour, it was a Monday night and I believe their happy hour goes until 6:30. The happy hour menu consisted of some wines by the glass, beer, and some food bites. I saw quite a few people ordering their happy hour pizza.
We were seated at our table shortly and the ordering began. We started with the fegatini (chicken liver), riso al salto and crostone de melazane. My 2 favorite by far was the fegatini and melazane (great flavor profiles for both).
For main course we shared a margherita di bufala pizza, paccheri con ragu di agnello, and bistecca alla florentina. The pizza - everyone is obsessed with the scissors they provide you to cut the pizza but it was slightly too soft/mushy in the center for me, especially being a pizza with no heavy base toppings. However the pasta and steak - HOLY COW! The paccheri were finished off with some fresh mint that really enhanced the lamb ragu. The florentine steak - OMG. Executed simply and delish. If you have enough people to order this - do it. It was amazing. The meat just melted in your mouth.
David Wu
Delicious pizza with amazing crust! One of the best pizzas I have had in a while.
Also the service was really good as well and the servers were very attentive and helpful with any questions on the menu.
Kevin Kong
Great spot for a casual outing. I ordered the pizza because I wanted to play with the comical pizza-cutting scissors, but ended up being really impressed by how good everything tasted! The desserts are also awesome.
Daniel Angster
This place is awesome. Great chicken and really tasty pizza. The wood fired pizza has great flavor and the fresh ingredients make a huge difference. Good beer selection too! Love the vibe with the booths.
Michael Pitsenberger
This is one our of favorite restaurants in the area. The service is great! It feels like home and we are treated like the Via Ghibellina family every time we go. The manager Rodrigo always greets us with warm welcomes, and the staff has made their restaurant feel like we are the most special people.
I love the pizza, cocktails, wine selection, pasta, and finishing dinner with the espresso martini and tiramisu always feels like a treat. Whenever we ask for wine suggestions Rodrigo knows exactly what to pair with our food/mood.
I would recommend Via Ghibellina if you are in the ivy city area. Grab some beers at the brewery or cocktails at the distillery. And when you need some food, go to Via Ghibellina and be catered to some delicious Italian food and great service!
Paul Phuong Hoang
It’s wonderful. The spaghetti is delicious, and the lobster salad is absolutely recommended to anyone
Siaka Togola
Dinner and service were excellent. The staff and the managerial team were really on point that evening. I will definitely go back, because the rest of the menu looks so succulent.
Tim Ski
The food was delicious and the atmosphere was just right for a nice date night.
Corwin Lemon
Staff was very professional and came well equipped with recommendations and explanations for those of us not ultra familiar with Italian. Pasta was delicious. Highly recommend the pasta with eggplant.
Tempus Fugit
The owner, manager and staff are great. The seats are hard but it's a nice place to dine. Great for a date night.
Bob Nunes
We arrived on a Tuesday evening and they were going to close early but they accommodated us made us a nice dinner and serve us the best wine ever
Aaron Angeles
Excellent food even better service. The best tiramisu and gelato I have had in 2018. I would skip the pizza.
Shiney Sharma
The food was good, but the portion sizes were really disappointing. The Riso Al Salto (pictured) was absolutely delicious, my friends loved the Bruschetta arrosto di bababietole (pictured) I wasn't a huge fan of it. The tagliatelle al ragu was also really good, however, it was a really small portion. When it came out I was extremely disappointed by it's size considering it was $20. We also had the quattro formaggi pizza and it was delicious and a decent size. Overall, I'm glad I tried it, but probably wont go back.
Courtney Morris
The staff are unbelievably friendly and kind. The food is to die for, and the pizzas are the best. They have specials from time to time and the "chicken under a brick" is my ultimate favorite dish. My family are all regulars here and you will not be disappointed.
Laura Ireland
Delicious pizza! Perfect cheese/ crust/ sauce ratio, and the white sangria can't be beat!!! Impeccable service as well as welcoming smiles from the staff. I'll definitely become a regular here! As you can see, I couldn't wait to eat lol.
Shirley
Found this spot on Google, saw that it had good reviews and decided to come in for a solo date night on 2/1/2022.
My reservation was for 8:15p.m. I arrived around 8:10p.m., they asked if I could sit at the bar area for a few minutes while they got my table ready but I forgot my vaccination card in the car and by the time I walked to the car and came back, my table was ready.
Great atmosphere, although it was a little loud in there but I didn't mind because it was just chatter and laughter from people having a great time. There was also music playing in the background.
Everything I had was recommended by my waiters. Their complimentary bread takes about 5 minutes to prepare, it was delicious although some of it was more burnt than I would have like it.
For dinner, I had the Tagliatelle Al Ragu. The portion size was just right, not too much and not too little. I was starving so I was able to finish the entire thing. I probably wouldn't have been able to if I'd had an appetizer. I will say it could have used just a little bit of salt but I didn't add though. The noodles were cooked Al dente and a few of them were a bit harder than I like, but it was still delicious.
For dessert I had the Panna Cotta (Flan), minus the blueberry sauce and I really enjoyed it. My waiter's first recommendation was the Tiramisu, which I do not like so if you like Tiramisu then definitely go with that
They have a good selection of wines and some cocktails. My waiter recommended the wine I had. All asked for was a sweet wine and it was perfect!
Overall, quaint spot in Ivy City, great atmosphere especially for date night, and good food. For my pasta, two glasses of wine, and dessert, I spent about $65. 8/10 would recommend.
Justin Smith
Ver good authentic food. Great restaurant all around. Staff is very nice and great service. Menu is kinda small but they have a lot of pizza which was very good. They also had like pizza scissors to cut it up which was cool.
Zhang Anni
Great service but I just don't like the foods. Expensive price, small potion not worth the price. Need to make a reservation in advance. Street parking with meters.
Michael Ammer Jr
Great little spot! My fiancé had the RISOTTO AI FUNGHI PORCINI, she loved it. I got the TAGLIATELLE AL RAGÚ . Also amazing. Staff was friendly, food came out fast and delicious.
Tracey Moon
I love it here. And, I love the $10 pizza happy hour!! The food is great, cocktails are fun, and the atmosphere feels cozy and friendly.
Fredrick Bernard III
Really glad this place is still around. Great food. Great service. Really the perfect place for a nice evening
Pierre Mégevand
Very tasty pizza at still-reasonable prices (under $20). The rest of the mains looked good, but between somewhat and very expensive. The pizza came with a large pair of scissors, drawing laughs from our European crowd (for the record, in Europe the pizza is not pre-sliced before serving, nor does it come with scissors--you cut it yourself with a fork and knife).
Alexis Colon
Food was great but menu was a little small
Deyni Mejia-Zaccaro
I went here for my bday and LOVED it so much. So when my mom came to visit I left downtown DC to go here (which is a bit of a drive and in a bit of a not so nice neighborhood). However, I was less impressed this time. Probably cause we got the eggplant over quinoa which I do not recommend ( but the again, who gets quinoa at an Italian spot. Our bad). The salami board was good. But I wish they’d give you the option of doing a combination of cheese and meats instead of a $28 only meat or only cheese board. Mushroom pizza was excellent. The cheapest glass of red is 15 or 17, which is more expensive than a cocktail? So wish they had more options.
Alvin Garcia
We had a wonderful Anniversary dinner! It was absolute perfection. We can’t wait to go back. Highly recommended.
James Wood
Wow. If you want authentic Italian food this is the place. I’m regretting not ordering the Cacio e Pepe cause I never see that on the menu anywhere in the US but I ordered the Tagliegelle Al Ragu and it was delicious! I highly recommend this place. Wish I lived closer.
Johannes and Sarah
Superb food, immaculate service, quaint atmosphere. 10/10 would recommend!
Se Va
Everything was good except lobster bisque. Thinnest, most watered down bisque I have ever tasted.
Elora Jean
I can't say enough good things about this restaurant! I went here for a date and between the two of us we ordered the caprese appetizer, a seafood pasta special and truffle risotto, along with the sangria and some cappuccinos to finish off our meal. Where do I begin? We received a booming welcome from the owner (or host?), and were seated immediately even though we were early for our reservation. The vibe of the restaurant for dinner was lovely and dimmed, with music playing at just the right volume to allow for conversation. Fresh bread is served before the meal, and if you sit in the rear you can see the wood-burning oven they use for pizzas. The food came out in a decent amount of time, and we savored every. single. bite. Between mouthfuls of delicious flavor my date and I mumbled to each other how much we loved EVERYTHING. We washed it all down with the sangria that gave me butterflies -- it was perfectly balanced between sweet and smooth. The prices are certainly higher, but we agreed it was worth every penny. I think we paid upwards of $200 for all the items I listed in the beginning. We will certainly return, and I absolutely recommend this spot for date nights or special events. I also read they do lunch specials which include lower prices, so we'll have to check that out. My favorite Italian restaurant in the area so far!
Zhigang Pan
Probably the best Italian food I’ve had in the DC area. Service was also very efficient and friendly.
Jennifer Allen
I had the filet with balsamic reduction and my partner had the gnocchi. Both dishes were delicious, but beware the steak is JUST a steak for $40 lol. The atmosphere is awesome and the dessert was out of this world. Would def come again.
Ryan Linehan
The chicken is phenomenal as is the prosciutto pizza. Lady Abarca & her husband, Danis Blanco, have a soon-to-be "neighborhood favorite" in Via! Already excited for my next visit.
Fred Pineau
What a gem! This restaurant serves authentic Italian dishes, complemented with excellent wines. Our party of five all thoroughly enjoyed the evening!
ZEN LENS
Cannot beat the half price pizzas! I recommend the salsiccia e cipolla. Scissors included. Cut a slice to your liking
S F
Food and service were really good!! Pasta and flat bread options were nicely prepared and flavorful. Would dine there again.
XAVIER AGNELLI
I love this place, it’s a little pricey, but the food is really good.
Angelica Norman-Beltran
Staff was really friendly and attentive. The brunch menu was smaller than I expected but sometimes that's a good thing. In this case it was! I had the Frittata Bianca, it was really good and the side salade had I nice, light dressing
Claus R B
This place has the best and most authentic pizzas🍕🍕, plus the happy hour🥃🍷🍻 is great? …
Jonathan Roy
Wonderful Restaurant. The food is amazing and consistent. The blueberry reduction on the filet and Lobster pasta (served on Wednesday) are my favorites. The staff are extremely nice and always make sure I have everything I need.
Brenda Trinidad
Great service and the food was amazing. Definitely coming back !
Saph
The food was absolutely delicious. I think this is probably one of the best italian resturants I've ever been to. The staff was so kind and very attentive, and the food was SO good. Most of the things there were very affordable. If you're in DC, make this one of your stops.
Jennifer G
Just incredible! From the initial greeting, we were treated like VIPs. Our server, Rodrigo, was so helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Everything came out quickly and picture perfect. The food was as good as we had in Rome! It was sad to be too full to eat another bite because I'm sure that would be amazing as well. What a gem!
Anna Lofton
I had takeout from here tonight and we will definitely be ordering again soon. The pasta and salads were SO good. This is definitely some of the best Italian I’ve had in a while! So impressed.
Brianna Moreno
AMAZING FOOD... you definitely get what you pay for here. perhaps some of the most delicious pasta I’ve ever tasted, and pizza made the authentic way, reminiscent of something you’d find in actual Italy.
perhaps the best part was the manager, Francesco from whom we received some of the best service. He was kind, charming, extremely welcoming to me and my family. will definitely be coming back!!
Magdalena Czech-Pasiecznik
It was our weekend away in Washington DC and we were all in the mood for Italian food. Truly best choice we made. Fast service, friendly people and food was delicious! We’re from New York but I’m definitely coming back here if I’m in the area. Thank you so much for this great experience!
Joy Quinn
My 3 generations of family came for Sunday dinner and were blown away by the outstanding service and truly the most amazing Italian food outside of Italy. They treated my 2 year old nephew just as well as the matriarch. Will absolutely be back fo "Lobster Wednesdays "
Marcia Thompson-Rodriguez
Amazing from start to finish!! My mom is half Italian and she would make pasta from scratch. Enjoyed the appetizers sampler main course and that amazing Tiramasu!!!
Cristina Coronita
My mom and I went here last night for dinner to celebrate her birthday. We arrived 30 mins late for our reservation and we were unfortunately in a huge rush to make a show on time. The owner, waiter, cooks, and other staff were SOOOO wonderful and accommodating in making the experience super memorable and fun for my mom, and the food was incredibly delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant! Amazing customer service and delicious food too!
Erin R Sandler
Authentic Italian food. Step into Rome right from the sidewalks of DC! Beautiful, delicious, crafted food.
Harry Shah
We went for happy hours and had a great time. This is a beautiful place - loved the long bar, the lighting and many other interior details.
We ordered pizza from the happy hour menu, and they were great. Very different, and reminded us of pizzas we've had in Florence, Italy. The drinks were a bit "different" per our taste, but surely got the kick and enjoyed them. Keep up the good work.
Rachel Lamar
Amazing food and wine. Both are great. The staff is phenomenal. They are all super friendly and genuinely care about you and your experience. They treat you like family and are so welcoming! We will definitely be back.
Deanna Stanley
Trendy. Too trendy to do traditional Italian, so be prepared. They'll nickel and dime you too. Soda only in can, if you want more bread, that's $5. Asparagus was bland.
Blake Arrington
Average italian food... slightly overpriced
Worth a visit for the unique blueberry filet but that might be about it. Expected a little more
Y Fessehaye
Authentic Italian food. Excellent service. Amazing and friendly staff. I ordered spaghetti frutti di mare which was not on the menu. The owner went out of his way to accommodate my order. My kids had pizza margarita, which was unlike any other pizza in the US. The food was delicious. Staff were very friendly and courteous. The ambience, decor and the atmosphere was very Italian and reminded me of my experience of restaurants in Rome- laid back, no rush to order and eat. An amazing experience and good time. I highly recommend this restaurant for any person looking forward for really italian dining and experience. Grazie tutti. Arrivederci
Ivan Rodriguez
Food was simply amazing, and out waitress Alina was just lovely, and the staff super friendly. Looking forward to going again and trying more of their menu.
Dcee Gee
Before a show we had fast personable service with delicious food. It was quiet as it was a bit early but the mussels in tomato broth was delicious with the most delightful thin but soft and in places crispy garlic scented focaccia. It was seasoned with lemon and possibly oregano. Tender and delicious. We had never had cacio e pepe and we both decided to try it. Perfectly seasoned with pepper and the cheese and tender homemade pasta. Off the beaten path it is a very authentic setting with a bar and minimal but amazing menu. Accompanied by a lovely glass of chianti. Wish we would have had time for dessert. Tiramissu was probably as authentic as the rest!
Sabino Epiceno
Deliciously authentic Italian fare. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the ingredients being used are very fresh. The house made noodles are a delight, and their unique twist on filet mignon (blueberry reduction on steak) was equal parts tasty and pleasing to the eye. Desserts are equally delicious and they made probbaly the best cappuccino I've ever had. If you're having entrées with drinks and dessert, be prepared to spend a good amount of cash, but I felt it was worth every penny.
Judson VanAntwerp
Went for Valentine's day and I cannot wait to return. The fillet mignon with the blueberry was unlike anything I've ever tasted. It came recommended by the chef himself and it did not disappoint. The owner was also so gracious and came over and told us the all about the restaurant and it's history. Amazing service, food, and ambiance. Can't recommend enough.
Ashte Collins
Our party of 8 (4 adults, 4 kids) had the Pappardelle (lamb), Tagliatelle (beef), Risotto, and the Margherita and Funghi Pizzas. All of the food was well prepared and seasoned, and Francesco was the best server we ever could have hoped for! The service even exceeded the food, which was excellent on its own.
I highly recommend this restaurant to all locals and tourists.
J Duncan
We had a wonderful meal here. The appetizer portion sizes were very large. And the wine pours generous. Both of our pasta dishes were very good. We had panna cotta for dessert and it did not disappoint. They were taking all necessary COVID precautions and we felt very comfortable. The service was excellent and we really enjoyed the Chardonnay. We will be going back soon!
Blake Pritchett
Amazing food and great service! Try the balsamic steak. You won’t regret it.
Jennifer Byrd
We are visiting from Washington State, got lost, and found our way into this quaint Italian restaurant. What an amazing accident! The food was AUTHENTIC and the service was perfection. Thank you for making our last night in DC both memorable and DELICIOUS!
Wynton Sanders
Very Good! Tasty and Freshly made.
Donald Hirsh
We were surprised when our navigation took us to Ivy City instead of Logan Circle. We were not surprised once we started eating. Food was just as good as the Logan circle restaurant if not better. The decor location or funky but very pleasantly so. Service was fantastic and we could not have been happier that we ended up here.
Sharon Clark
Had a late lunch there over the weekend. Food was great! Ordered the Calamari and Shrimp appetizer and the Arrosto Di Melanzana. The presentation was beautiful. Completed the meal with the Barretta Di Gianduia for dessert. Service was exceptional. Hope this area picks up so this restaurant succeeds.
Michael Hamilton
I love this place. The food, the staff, everything is perfect.
This is where I send my family when they visit DC.
The pasta is simple and amazing. The pizzas are delicious. You'll never regret coming here.
Dannette Johnson
Bravo!!!! Amazing! Four courses of deliciousness. The filet mignon with blueberry reduction was fabulous. Melted in our mouths. The Quattro Formaggio pizza was excellent! The service here is spectacular. We will definitely return. I felt like I was in Italy for dinner. A true Italian meal. Thank you to Francesco and everyone there. It was amazing!!!!
Stephanie C. Whelpley
Happy hour and brunch here are both great. Happy hour is very reasonably priced. It takes place a bit early - about 4-6:30pm, but the wines are only $5, there is a cheese plate that is awesome, and the pizzas are also discounted! Happy hour takes place at the bar, but the service was great (we felt very well taken care of), and really you get a lot for what you pay during happy hour. The pizza is delicious! We did have to leave because it got a little claustrophobic by the bar and we got warm, but we definitely got our fill!
Keilia Phillips
Loved everything about this place. The food was amazing! The host (with 2 names 😉) was engaging, hilarious and hit just the right notes with making you comfortable. I'll be back. …
Amanda Donaldson
Best pasta I ever had! The owner takes a lot of pride in his restaurant, and was excited to explain to me how the spaghetti alla carbonara is his authentic recipe from Rome. It can seem a little pricy, but the quality of the food is well worth it.
Kathy Rogers
Excellent Sunday brunch. Staff were gracious and gave good, attentive service throughout the meal. They were busy but we never felt neglected. Food was very good, our large group ordered a variety of entrees, all of us were quite happy with our meals. They were accommodating of my food allergies, and we had no concerns having an (older) child in the party. Will definitely return, when we go back to DC to visit family.
Christine B
Absolutely fantastic pizza! The crust was out of this world! Just the the right amount of sauce. We did take out. It was ready fast and still very hot when we arrived. Very nice staff!
Thought Trafficker
Both service and food were excellent!
Highly recommend!
Alexander Popowycz
Had a wonderful meal. All the appetizers/salads were great. We had the tagliatelle and cavatelli asking with a pizza and each was done spectacularly. Definitely will be visiting here again!
Josh Franklin
I've walked by here for years. Last night I tried the spot and had such a great time!
First off, being on 14th, the place is probably going to have a wait unless you get a reservation. We walked in and waited about 25 minutes at around 7:30, which seems reasonable. The staff was top notch, and let my wife try a few wines, and they were classy about it. In the end we just got pizza. Beautiful, splendid, pizza. I had the special which had pork and BBQ sauce with some spicy stuff and non-standard cheese.
Kind of a cool side note - they give you giant pizza cutting shears. Slicing my pizza while feeling like Edward Scissor hands was awesome, and I definitely want to do that at home.
All in all a great experience. The only real issue is that it was expensive. $18 a pizza. But we knew what we were getting into.
Justin Van Der Horn
Went for Sunday brunch and really enjoyed it. We started with biscuits and fig jam which were quite good (small, square and about four to the order). The mimosas and bloody Mary's were inexpensive and we'll mixed (bloodies had a good amount of horseradish). I had polenta cakes with prosciutto served over a tomato sauce which was excellent - highly recommended. Service was also very friendly and attentive.
Jenny Jacobs-Taylor
The atmosphere is just right--casual but still a little upscale. I've only ever orders the pastas, salads, and pizzas but have never been disappointed. Love going when the pizzas are half off!

We came here with relatively short notice for reservations, but still able to get in and get seated quickly. Seems to be a hip place for after work happy hour, but we came for dinner. Staff were honest about portion sizes for the main entrées and suggested ordering additional food. We tried the soup and it was to die for. Pasta was also amazing. I loved the entire experience here. Staff seem very concerned about the satisfaction of the customer which is nice, but also a bit overboard.
Rodrigo Fernandez
The pizza was great, really really good food. I can't say that the staff wasn't kind, 'cause they where. But, it was one of these restaurants where there's a protocol, where they want to tell you all their specials, tell you what's new, etc... we were ready to order from the moment we got in and the waitress was sort of thrown off when we interrupted her and said we were ready and straight forward. Definitely make a reservation.

Ghibellina is a very special restaurant and bar. I'll forget about the cool look of the place. Won't even mention it. I'll just close my eyes and remember how everything was bursting with flavor and more flavor. Layers of lovely fresh bright flavors. From the inventive cocktails to the many wines to the dishes. Everything is made with expertise thoughtfulness and love.
We've gone many many times and have never ever been disappointed. In fact, Ghibellina continues to surprise and amaze us.
Friendly solid service. Very knowledgeable earnest staff.
Fabulous happy hour specials on both wine and food.
Parking is problematic after 7 pm. It's usually ok (within 3 blocks) before that time.
Paige Einstein
Came here with a friend for happy hour. It's got a cozy interior and a comfortable atmosphere. The bar is fairly large and we had no problems grabbing seats. The happy hour deals on wine are great (half priced), and the bartenders were attentive. I wasn't a big fan of our pizza, it came out too watery with a soggy crust. This may have been a fluke though, as the pizzas that the people around us ordered looked much better. They give you scissors to cut the pizza, which I thought was neat.
Dave Anderson
My favorite pizza place in DC so far: great Neapolitan pizza with consistently classy wait staff. Nice outdoor seating and and an open view overlooking the street. They serve pizza with pizza-scissors 🍕✂️🙂. Happy hour until 6:30pm with half-price margherita pizzas. …
James McChristy
My go to happy hour spot in DC. The pizza is great and they have decent priced wine. It's best to get there early because space at the bar fills up quickly. The only thing I dislike is the bar is shallow so my knees hit the back.
Tony Lamont
The pizza is very good and will always recommend. What was not the best was the rest of the menu. We went for dinner around 530 and had to make reservations. The staff was super friendly but all of the food was just okay. Some came out cold but the majority of the dishes were a little bland. Will return but only for pizza. Again the waitress was great and very attentive
P B
The menu is concise, serving pizza, pasta, seafood, and steak. Nothing really jumped out at me, but the prices are reasonable. The ambiance is very beautiful, portraying a rustic Tuscan vibe.
Service was poor. I bought a bottle of chianti, but had to ask the server what specific wine he had. He didn't know, and was unable to locate it on the menu. I also ordered sausage on my pizza but didn't receive it. When I pointed this out to the server, he awkwardly apologized but did not offer to fix the order.
I would give it a second chance, but there are so many other great restaurants in DC.

This restaurant is a 10/10. The owner has great hospitality and the environment is nice. I had brunch here and got the French toast with blueberries,Nutella, and honey, it was so good. I recommend this place to anyone!
Racquelle White
Nice spot. Nice wine selections and cuisine.

I booked the Ovest room for a private event, and it was perfect. The food was delicious, service was wonderful, and the space was great. Not too loud, and it even felt intimate even with only 11 of us. Emily was great to work with in terms of booking; everything was so prompt and easy. She even crafted a couple different menus for us to choose from. Would highly recommend and plan on coming back for dinner with friends and family.
Jeff Kryger
The food was good. Lots of variety on the menu. Good wine list too. Prices could be about $3-5 cheaper for entrees. Service was ok, took a while for the check. Also hard to hear the waitress over the din (tables are basically on top of each other)
Keri Golas
Nice atmosphere, very good service and great food. Even our picky kids loved their meals. Chicken with lemon caper sauce was excellent.
Ryan
Always busy (very popular!) Great pasta and pizza. Great wines. Great bartenders. Would recommend for dates, but definitely make reservations ahead of time, and be wary that it gets packed and very loud at popular times.
Jeremy McDaniel
We enjoyed our meal. Our server, Andrew, was very knowledgeable about their wines and never let our glasses get empty. The lobster risotto was perfectly cooked and balanced. The Quattro Formaggio pizza was also wonderfully done in their brick oven. Thank you for the delightful experience.
Teddy Vincent
Great dinner with my family after seeing the Van Gogh exhibit. Francesco was an outstanding host. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.
Michael Rand
Went here for a regular evening out. Had high expectations given it comes highly recommended, but it was a little disappointing. Food was fairly good, but the service could definitely use improvement. Were not seated until more than a half hour after reservation time. Had to ask more than four times for bread and the food service was quite rushed with courses coming out well before the previous one was finished. The food had some redeeming quality though. Ragu pasta was excellent and their white bean soup was also very good. Will try to go here one more time to see if the service improves because the food seems worth it.
Chris Saslo
So I almost gave this place a 2 star purely because they don't seat you at a table when you are alone. While the bar stools may be uncomfortable it nonetheless serves the purpose. What really saved this place was watching the manager assist 2 other businesses in need for something really insignificant. So I will freely admit the wait staff is very attentive and the food fresh. Cocktails also don't disappoint. I will probably be back but encourage the management to reconsider this very discriminatory policy.
John McDonough
Glad to see that Ghibellina has found a new home with some of the folks behind the 14th Street location. The quality has not skipped a beat and the service is just as warm as we remembered from the old location. The portion sizes even seemed to get larger. They were practicing good COVID measures and had outdoor dining as well as spaced indoor tables. The pizza is also amazing for takeout!
Dana Roth
Came here for restaurant week (unexpectedly) and the food was absolutely fantastic! Had the starter salad (not sure the name of it, but it had arugula) and it was great, very fresh. The salmon dish was great as well, the greens and broccoli were actually my favorite part of the dish. Sit in the front window, if possible!
James Weingarten
Very high energy bar scene, i.e., youth abounds. Excellent staff and service, but be prepared for long long waits. The food is Italian tapas, and it's very good. The pizzas are medium-sized and excellent, with quality toppings and a nice charred thin crust. The steak (sized to share with a group) is outstanding, seared, charred, juicy, flavorful. A note of caution - it is rather pricey.
Meredith Soward
We had a lovely meal here! Our server Tara was very nice and gave us a great recommendation with the caprese salad. We also loved the funghi pizza and the gnocchi (although a smaller portion than we would have liked). We’ll definitely be back for the $10 happy hour pizzas - what a deal!
Michael O'Connell
This review isn't for the food - which is always delicious - but the excellent service I received recently. My gf and I arrived and stood at the bar, waiting for 2 seats there or at a table to open up. Immediately, a manager offered us a menu to look at while we waited and the bartender asked what we wanted to drink without the usual 'I'm soooo busy' attitude. When 1 seat opened up, a different manager appeared with a chair and cordially asked our new neighbor at the bar to move 2-3 feet to allow us to sit together, which she very nicely agreed to do. Small gestures but a clear sign of the exceptional customer service culture at this restaurant
Duncan Henricks
I really hate having to give this review 3 stars because all but one of the many pieces that need to fall in place for a 5 star review, did. We showed up for happy hour on Sunday evening. The place was busy but not overly so. We got a nice table outside but from the moment the waiter came up (5 minutes after we sat) we could tell he was completely dazed and confused. I don't want to speculate but something was very off. When I attempted to order one the hh beers, he said that beer was kicked but he didn't know which beers were on tap. He said he would find out, but when he came back 10 minutes later he said he still didn't know what beer options were available. Note that I did not have a full beer list and he just asked me what type of beer I wanted. When I did finally get my beer, he did not bother to tell me what it was or ask if it was acceptable (fortunately it was). When we got our pizza, we had to ask the waiter to provide plates. When he brought players back, he puts the plates in thing of our neighbors, who had already finished their meal and walked away! From there he never came back until I had to flash have down for the check, no along if we needed more drinks or anything.
The food however was really excellent. We ordered a pizza (sausage), which are a wonderful deal at $10 during hh. It was a good size, plenty of food for two of us and it was delicious. I also want to mention that the bus boy was great and kept or water filled and delivered the pizza. I also really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. I would like to give the place another shot but would be worried we would end up with the same waiter....
Basil Mokhallalati
The bread and the homemade apple/honey butter was some of the best I have ever tasted. The food was fresh and in decent portions and the brunch menu had good variety.
The service was wonderful and informative. And for DC the price wasnt too bad.
Breanna Duff
This food was unbelievable!!!! I had the french toast with blueberries, nutella, and honey. I was overly satisfied.
The restaurant was very clean and the owner was very kind and had great hospitality!
I recommend this place to any and every one!
Franklin McGuire
Have rarely experienced such excellent service, especially in a restaurant in DC! Our host, Diego, and our server, Chris, were both class acts. My wife and I had an excellent time, and were treated to some of the best Italian food we’ve ever had outside of Italy. Big thank you’s to both of them — we will definitely be back next time we’re in town!
tamar mintz
Had an amazing birthday dinner here this past weekend. We were immediately sat and greeted by our waiter who went through the menu with us. We never felt rushed and he was extremely helpful when we asked countless questions. We started with the beet salad, mushrooms over polenta, and the cauliflower. All were good , but the beet salad was amazing. For our main courses we ordered the gnocchi (AMAZING), the pizza that came with artichokes (I would start a religion around this), The Halibut (which was a little dry), The Tuna (cooked perfectly, the cannelloni beans were a great addition), and another pasta dish which name escapes me now. All in all, we will definitely be back. We were told about their happy hour, which will be fun to come back for.
Thuy K.
Great service with delicious food. The squid ink pasta with soft shell crab and calabrian chilies were to die for!
Alison Curtis
They have an amazing weekend happy hour with delicious cocktails and amazingly authentic pizzas that are half off. You can't beat that, especially in such a trendy spot. Don't miss out on their Sangria or olive pizza!
Jonathan Futerman
$26 for a glass of Lagavulin and this is the amount they give you. Less of an amount than a shot.
Other than that, the pizza was good.
Meg Durcan
Delicious brunch, can't beat pancakes and pizza. $5 mimosas and menu is a la carte. While the service is slow, they have the space for large groups and is likely available on short notice. Only get the burger if you like it a little burnt.
Cindy Sanzotta
My husband and I are newly returned to the area from 4 years abroad in Europe. Italian is our go to no matter what country we are in so we have been exploring all of the DC Italian restaurants. Ghibellina is hands down our favorite so far! The pizza's were closest to the real thing in Italy or Europe. The chicken dish was lovely and the dessert (TORTA DI GIANDUJA) was fantastic! My only regret was that the wines were over priced which is typical for DC but such a shame. There are so many wonderful wineries to import with that do not have to cost upwards of $60 + We will be back. Excellent service, great ambiance, noise level was easy to speak even though the restaurant was busy. Thank you Ghibellina!
Lynnetta Thompson
The food was ok but the atmosphere was really nice. I ordered the funghi pizza because I love mushrooms and goat cheese. I was a little disappointed because the pizza crust was burnt and not enough goat cheese for me!!! Nonetheless I ate it because I was hungry! I wish the pizza had a little pizza sauce, I would've ignored the above. We ordered beer (IPA) but finished our pizza before it got there, so nevermind! The best part of my first experience at this restaurant was the cool people we met next to us who were from Canada. I probably won't visit again.
Nicholas Tappa
A great location to pick a quick bite of Italian-to-Go. We enjoyed the meat and cheese platters — beautiful presentation albeit a very similar selection on both plates. Service was courteous and prompt.
Hayley McLeod
Great experience for our first time to DC. Pizza and pasta were delicious, and the drinks were fantastic!
Steve Wardell
I really liked Ghibellina. We were here on a Sunday night but made a reservation (they only take them until 6:45pm). The space is nice with a warm rustic feel. They have a bar counter that is window facing which has nice people watching views. They have a few outdoor tables. The food was good. Loved the cannellini beans, burrata appetizer, and grilled artichoke. The pizzas are reportedly good though we did not have them. The chickpea soup was a bit bland. The beers on draft are ok but not fun. The sangria was good. They also have some fun cocktails. The service was good. The cost does add up quickly since it's somewhat small plates. Overall, I liked it.
Aarti Bansal
I've tried to like this place, but each time something goes wrong. I ordered the Fungi pizza with goat cheese and mushrooms. For some reason, the cook got confused with the order and missed the mushrooms. The 2nd time was a charm.
I like how the pizza is served with scissors., so you can cut the pizza when it cools down and it's not soggy. I've only seen another upscale Italian restaurant serve scissors with the pizza.
The pizza is quite unique, it's not full of sauce or crispy. I enjoyed the truffle oil, roasted mushrooms, and goat cheese. All great flavors that blend well together. I can see how Yelpers complain that the pizza isn't crispy and the crust is a bit bland. The pizza is cooked in a brick oven.
I enjoyed the cocktails as well, they are quite refreshing and one of them came with a cool apple peel.
The review falls short of a 5 star due to poor service and poor management. The server I spoke to was friendly but honestly spoke a bit bluntly on how frustrating it was to work on Ghibellina with under trained bartenders. From the pizza incident, I could see that there is a strong communication issue as well.
Although the pizza, cocktails, and overall products are good, the service is a serious pain point. I've been here 3 times and never felt Wowwed.
In my opinion, Ghibellina is one of those hyped up restaurants on 14th street that loves to over promise but under delivers.
Jim Murphy
Awesome place. We sat at the bar and it was fantastic. Ram and Edwin took care of us and we had a great time. The food was excellent too. We started with the chicken liver mousse as octopus carpacio, both fabulous. For our entrees we chose the butternut squash rissoto and the roasted chicken. Amazing. We will be back.
Leah Denny
Excellent meal with wonderful, wonderful service and a delicious menu! Got a pizza and the lobster linguine special which was amazing - they went above and beyond service-wise, generous portions, following all Covid protocols- we will be back soon!
Allison Swift
Wood fired pizzas served with scissors for cutting. One of the best pizzas I've had in DC. The restaurant and bar are both very cute and have great ambiance. The service was extraordinary. Glad it is in walking distance from my house!
Michael Montesinos
Awesome pane tostado! Loved the sangria and funghi pizza.
Charlotte Slaiman
Highly recommend the bucatini with clams! I would say this place is a little hit or miss but the hits are very good. We had a couple weird cocktails, and the burrata was overly sweetened, but the white pizza, the rigatoni and the sea bass were good. I also liked the look and decor. Cool trendy vibe.
Nubia Fasil D.
The place looked small from outside but large and comfy. We had the large table for a big family Father's day out. Our server was super helpful and loved her suggestions. We started out with appetizers the asparagus with the cheese on bread hmmm, you got to try. Main course food was served on a big plate but smaller portions. Oh the dessert, tiramisu is something to go for. All in all we had a wonderful time🤗
Rahul Patel
The scissors make the experience very unique! I really enjoyed the Margherita pie, especially because during happy hour it was only $8! Overall, the quality of the food, the atmosphere, and the staff are all superb and make for an exceptional experience.
Donald Bushman
Let me start by saying, wow. Just wow.
Over the past few months, my girlfriend and I have been exploring the local food scene without having much luck. A coworker of mine recommended Ghibellina and I couldn’t be happier with our night out.
For starters the food was great. We ordered one plate off of each course along with a bottle of Italian white wine(recommended by our server which was great) and we were not disappointed by a single dish.
I’ve realized, as a server myself, and through recent experiences(such as our horrible experience at Momo in Bethesda) that service is paramount to a good restaurant experience. Its critical to note that the service is just as important as the food!
Our server, Anouar, was amazing. He is everything that you’d ever want in your server and if you go I’d highly recommend that you ask for him specifically. Having been to Italy twice, and Anouar being Italian, it was a match made in heaven and it brought us back to our amazing experiences in Milan and Venice. He was extremely hospitable and just a great guy all around.
Overall, we will partially return for the food but mainly to see Anouar again.

Great after work happy hour! Bar seating can be a little tight so make sure to get there early. Margherita was delicious. Great people watching spot of you can get a seat outdoors
Joy R
Little more expensive than expected (100 per person with each person getting 2 drinks, 1 app 1 entree) but it was tasty.
Bryan Pizzillo
This was a really nice meal. We had the buratta with English peas, risotto cakes, a lamb dish and the squid ink pasta with softshell crab. It was all delicious and so spring-like. The tiramisu was also really fantastic. We also took our dog and they offered to get him a bowl of water. (We brought our own, but it was still nice). The best thing about the meal was the service. It was really good. I don't know how this is now on the Eater 38 because it was really good.
Erin R
Amazing date spot for italian fare! Vegan options available (cauliflower steak and more - just ask!). The waiters made our dinner even more fun. Very engaging, animated, and fun. The food and wine were delicious. Some people are dressy, others are casual (I'd lean more towards dressy if I were you). Usually loud and busy, but not loud enough that it's hard to converse. A little gem on 14th!
Mary Dolbashian
I love this place! It has the best happy hour ever! The pizza is amazing! The actual restaurant has a great feel and you can't beat the happy hour prices! Food is great off happy hour menu also👍😊😊 …
Christine L
I came here with my friend and we got there about 615, just in time to get a happy hour drink! It ends at 630. I overlooked the happy hour menu and it look pretty decent with good food and good drinks. I had a drink with ginger beer. It was very delightful.
We then moved to dinner where we of course had more wine! My friend and I shared the FARRO E BARBABIETOLA. It was so good. I love roasted beat, but the mixture with the farro was really good. My friend got the gnocchi and she liked it. I had a bite, and the gnocchi was perfectly cooked and I remember liking it. I got the fish of the day and i remember really enjoying it. with 3 wines and our 3 dishes, we spent maybe about $50 each with tip, which is a little expensive.
Over all I like it, but the only rememberable item was the FARRO E BARBABIETOLA and happy hour drink. I would like to come back and try other foods and maybe happy hour.
The restaurant it self is super cute and I love the atmosphere.
divita mathur
Our server was excellent! He helped us with a crazy billing arrangement in a group of 9!
The food and cocktails were really delicious and just we had a great time overall!
Monica Andrews
I'm a huge fan of dinner at Ghibellina. Most dishes are meant to be shared, and they have a seasonally rotating menu. The interior of this Italian restaurant is dark and a little bit loud (especially near the bar area), so it helps to get a table away from the crowd. You really can't go wrong with the pizzas, gnocchi and almost anything on their menu.
christopher holloway
The whole staff has been amazing in accomdating 4 adults and 4 infants. Great food. Better service!
Jonny Newburgh
The pizza was really good, but the bottom was too soft -- I'm not sure why it didn't crisp up. My real issue with Ghibellina is not with the pizza but their rules: You can't get the happy hour deal at the tables, but only at the bar. Thats B-S.
Angie A
I love this place so much! It's super cute, intimate and always worth the wait. Highly recommend making reservations beforehand or sitting at the bar if you're in a time crunch. I can be a creature of habit when it comes to things I LOVE and typically order a handful of items including olives, salsicce e cipolla pizza, calamariti con calamari, riso al salto and insalata Ghibellina.
Don Robinson
Excellent food and great service! Authentic Italian. Really good pasta, pizza, and desseet.
Stephanie Fontenot
Favorite Italian place in the area. Food is elegantly presented, flavored to perfection, and every bite makes you want the next one. Go for a great glass of wine and split a few entrees with a date or friend, but don't miss the charcuterie board!
Erin Watson
I have to say- I was a little skeptical when I saw the place as it appears fairly run down. But the wait staff was absolutely wonderful and the food delicious and I think reasonably priced. Would recommend to anyone🙂
Anna James
Some of the best food on 14th street! They have delicious flatbreads which are on special during happy hour. The happy hour is a good deal, though doesn't last too late into the evening and is only at the bar. I've always had a great meal and great service here. Can't wait to go back soon!
I'm_nobody Who_are_you
A neighbor favorite. We go every couple og weeks just for the bronzino and risotto.
Kristoff Inocentes
Was in one of the private rooms upstairs for a birthday dinner. Good service, friendly staff, and very delicious food. Would come back here again. Hopefully the experience is just as good at a regular table.
M U K T I . D E S A I
Have only been here for happy hour and was pretty pleased with their selection of cocktails and the pizza. Would come back for both. It gets pretty crowded so come early if you want a seat.
Jessica Ochoa
Delicious food, great service, nice place!
Dane Lamendola
Hosted a rehearsal dinner for 32 people. The quality of the food and service was remarkable. My wife and I highly recommend it for not just large parties but for a nice dinner for 2.
ROBERT Covington
As a quattro formaggi connoisseur, trust me I’ve earned the title by purposefully gorging specially on four-cheese pizzas, Via offers one of the absolute best in DC. Actually Via offers one of the top 3 Quattro Formaggi pizza’s I’ve tasted. Yes that’s compared to the top places in DC, NYC, CT, CA, Italy and France. It’s ok to judge me on my love for cheese.
geoffrey koury
This is a nice restaurant for special occasions, as it's a little pricey.
The truism 'you get what you pay for' can certainly be said of their food, however - the pizza is amazing!
And the particular pizza I have in mind is their salsicce e cipolla - everything about it is delicious, especially the crust, which so often in other pizzas falls short in one way or another; not so here! It is thin but doesn't collapse under the juicy toppings and baked to perfection, with a harmonious combination of chew and crisp.
To give an idea of its consistency it might help to say that the pizza is brought out unsliced, that task is left to the diner, and instead of a standard pizza cutter one is supplied with a set of pizza shears! The implement is very efficient - and fun!
I also split their insalata ghibellina and it was excellent - everything was fresh and, most importantly, the avocado was at just the right stage. The pesto was delicious.
Be sure to make a reservation! If you don't and it's busy you'll probably have to wait around the bar. They also can take your number and text you if you'd like to wait outside or perhaps stop in somewhere else in the interim.
Vincent L
Excellent atmosphere, with a warm and inviting dining area. This was my first time here and I only ordered two pizzas, a margherita, and a bianca. They both had an excellent balance of toppings, cheese, sauce (no sauce on the bianca) and crust thickness. The sauce on the marcherita was truly the best tasting that I could remember. The crust on both was toasted to a nice crisp. I'm definitely returning for more!
UPDATE 9/19): Now that I'm traveling through Europe at the moment, I can definitely say that the pizza found in Ghibellina is nearly identical to what can be found on the European continent.
Kimberly Johnson
Holy cow, amazing food, amazing service!! Don’t be fooled by the floors that need to be redone. This is a five star restaurant hiding as a local favorite.
Dave Watts
One of the best new restaurants on 14th Street. It's an Italian restaurant that serves pizzas and regular Italian fare. They give you a big pair of scissors to cut your pizza.
It's very similar to Etto, across the street, but is larger and has a larger menu as well. Etto's menu in contrast is a little more adventurous. Both have small beer lists, but serve some good Italian beers including Baladin Nora, one of my favorites.
Fleming Campbell
Wonderful staff. Excellent food. Fair prices. Cozy atmosphere.
Alexandra Ostwald
Not your typical Italian restaurant. High end steak and she'll fish. The roaster chicken was the highlight. The pizza was great for my son. Everything is ala carte
Mike Bozzelli
Held a private event and every aspect of our experience was nothing short of amazing. The pasta was clearly housemade, reminiscent of my mother’s and the tiramisu is epic. Many thanks to the awesome staff including Whitney, Diana, Marlon and all the champs behind the scenes. Keep killing it guys. We will surely be back.
Katya Uryupova
It is more about an Italian-style bar rather than an authentic Italian place....it is good for Happy Hour pizzas but drinks are very cheap (imagine a white wine blend with no name and location info!) Perfect location, huge interior, average service and food.
Joe Nastri
One of my favorite places for relaxed Italian cuisine in downtown DC. LOVE the food here. They've been very consistent over the years with service and food. **FOOD**: They call themselves an Italian Gastropub, focused on a mix of high-quality pizza (might be the best pizza in DC for some), mezze portioned (larger than tapas) and traditional entree dishes.
I'm a fan especially of Riso Al Salto Con Uova (crispy prosciutto/risotto cakes with fried eggs, tomato coriander sauce) & Gamberi e Polenta (shrimp, white polenta, poached eggs, leeks, tomatoes, salsa rossa). But you'll find Italian-influenced versions of French Toast & Scrambled Eggs platter as well. Good options for carnivores and for vegetarians.
In addition to a brunch-specific menu, there's also the normal pizza menu that's available. I heart the Olive e Carciofi -- nostraliana olives, artichokes, sundried tomatoes, smoked mozzarella, basil, garlic & pepperoncino. Pizzas here are not 100% Neapolitan but an homage to with an added emphasis on crispier. Just don't assume that the pie will be served pre-sliced, they provide you giant shears to cut your own slices (nice twist you don't see at other venues). Have room for dessert? Must try is the in-house made gelatos, they're ridiculously good.
**SPACE**: The owner describes it as "an Italian bar meets an industrial building" ... crafted from old wood, original brick and chairs plucked from an Italian school. He's right lol. Nice looking space.
Leandra Slayton
I’ve loved almost everything I eaten here! Probably the closet thing to real Italian food I’ve ever had. This place is always packed so I normally order to go or have it delivered, but I can’t wait to dine in soon! The Cacio e Pepe (w/white clams) and Salsicca e Cipolla pizza are my favs and I’ve order 6 times in the past 2 months. Sooo yummy!
Doug Elia
The owner was most gracious. We visited with our Italian exchange student who was thrilled with the native atmosphere and available cuisine.
Meg Smith
Food is delicious: swordfish with tomatoes and capers is fresh and flavorful; pizza is thin, chewy, bright, perfect. Cocktails are spot on. Service is friendly and solicitous. Great place.
J Peter Loftus
Authentic Italian cuisine with fresh ingredients. If you like a wood fire pizza, this restaurant has a good recipe.
Dawson Nash
Food and service were excellent when I went to brunch last Sunday. Why wait in a line at Le Diplomate when you can have a nice brunch at Ghibellina in a cozy atmosphere and have a conversation using a normal voice?
Carsten Binsner
Good food, but small portions and a little bit over price for my taste.
Robin Brown
Come here with my girls for happy hours and pizza all the time but never got to say good things about them. Well, now it's the time! Lovely spot with good good vibes and the service is always great.
Brooke Cooper
Best pizza in DC! This place always makes me feel at home. The staff are amazing, the pizza is incredible, and the atmosphere is wonderful. 10/10 recommend
Robert Monjay
The pizza is amazing, the branzino is perfect, and the wine made the night. 10/10 will go back and would recommend again.
Shari Peters
Amazing fresh and homemade food, exceptional service and atmosphere; strongly recommend!
Yolen Bollo-Kamara
The food itself was great! We had the margherita pizza, ribeye steak, and the braised lamb.
Service was so-so but our server was super sweet at least.
Megan
One of my favorite places for happy hour in DC. The mushroom pizza aka the fungi is amazing! I always pair it with the happy hour Prosecco! 🤤🤤🤤 …
Chris Estrada
The staff and management go above and beyond to make it a great experience. The food and cocktails are excellent. Order the sangria and any of the pizzas.
Ed Dieterle
We attended an event in the restaurant's upstairs party room. The food, drinks, and service were excellent. The space, with exposed brick walls, easily held 50 people.
Wez So_N_So
A really nice place to come and get some food and spend some time.
Marius Copil
Lovely place with some good pizza and pasta
chuck c
I love this park. I bring my dog here nearly every day. The only reason I leave it 4 stars is because the Parks service rarely lay wood chips down, so there are portions of the park that are dusty/dirty...which my white dog loves to roll in.
Naheed Bilgrami
Lovely, unpretentious Italian with great food and very warm hospitality. I'm so glad I dragged my other half out to dinner on a perfect evening.
Suzanne Alavi
Fun and vivacious atmosphere Greek Pizza great happy hour and excellent food if you want dinner. It gets very crowded and at times you have to wait for a place to sit otherwise it's great
Chelsea Fuller
You only think you’ve had pizza until you’ve eaten at Via Ghibellina. Seriously - stop what you’re doing and go order LITERALLY anything here. And the staff? Equally comical as they are professional.
L H
The tequila chili drink was fantastic. Not spicy and not too sweet...just right. The bubbles they had on the menu was also very good.

I lived in Italy. Excellent handcrafted Pizza drinks and pastas... only use the bathroom on the left because the one on the right is very similar to an escape room: the faucet doesn't work the sink backs up and you cannot see yourself in the mirror.. after this particular foreboding moment reminds you of a Saw movie, the door handle doesn't work.
Matthew Dolbow
Who can argue with great $7 happy hour brick oven, genuinely Neopolitan-style pizza crusts -- just avoid the awful canned anchovy version (so salty it will pucker your lips) and the massive globes of unfresh squeezed OJ and peach liquor "cocktails"
Ryann Glaccum
I've been wanting to stop by here for a while and so glad I did. I've been searching for a solid pizza shop in NE and this is the place! Beautiful chewy crust with classic toppings (I got prosciutto and arugula). The Peruvian chicken is also great and reminiscent of Pollo Rico in Ballston circa 2007 for those familiar, complete with yellow and green sauce. Food comes out quickly and the service is friendly. Highly recommended as a low key spot for good food.
Morgan Giddings
My new favorite restaurant in DC. Feels like a mini trip to Italy with the highest quality ingredients, unreal authentic flavors and reasonable prices. The owner makes it a memorable meal through his stories and passion for starting a restaurant! Try the homemade noodles and easy drinking piedmont red. Pizza with scissors as done in Italy! Takeout and restaurant both experiences over deliver.
S Gibson
Absolutely excellent. Everything was delicious without complaint. I will be returning and happily. Fantastic, fantastic food and staff.
Christopher Wilcox
Excellent food and service. The chicken liver pate appetizer was just as it should be. The pasta was fresh and perfectly al dente with a ragu that was simple, no grease
Bryan Bowie
Didn't eat at the main place but had a room upstairs with a crowd. Food was okay, albeit small. Now the bartenders know how to make good Long Island Ice Tea's.
Troy Quillico
Give these people all of your money! Literally everything they serve is phenomenal! The salads are perfect, the bread is perfect, the pasta is perfect, and the dessert is perfect!
Tom
Very good pizza with good happy hour prices at the bar. Pasta is good but portion size is very small. 3.5 stars.
Patrick Bolan
Rustic, loud, and oily. A fine interior. We paid $7 for a can of cider. As a gathering spot with friends it could be great. A peacable dinner? Nope.
Andy Lacroix
This place is really good. The pizza is excellent and the owner is very nice. Highly recommend!
Bill Albro
Great food and service. Home made pasta and pizza were delicious. Wine pairing was fabulous.
Weekend Warrior
It's a great restaurant. I wish it was just a little quieter, but I had good time and the food was great. $12 for valet seemed reasonable
Phyllis CurryMorgan
Awesome pizza. I'm lactose sensitive and this does not bother me. The white pizza with Loroco is the best.
Alexandria Miller
Blown away by the ragu and the carbonara. Super friendly staff and felt very cozy yet refined. Highly recommend!
renato rotondo
The only other place that I have used scissors to cut pizza was in my nonna's kitchen. So I was immediately both sold and sceptical at the same time. Great pizza, but the fungi pizza really shined
Harry Jackson
This place is nothing short of fantastic. The pizza is great, service and atmosphere are even better! Oh and I recommend the desert sampler too.
Jeremy
Incredible pizza and service. Grabbed a pizza to take over to Other Half.
Shannon Clancy
Combination of two great restaurants closed by the pandemic - Ghibellina and Aqua al Due. Diavola pizza is phenomenal
scott g
Love the pizza here. Good wine and beer list. I live in the building upstairs and to order a takeout pizza you can't do it over the phone, needs to be in person. Annoying
Tammy Gordon
Great little neighborhood spot for pasta, pizza, salads and wine. Bonus: one of the only spots nearby that's usually open for lunch. And, early happy hour!
Peter Janssen
Charming setting, excellent service and delicious food; the filet mignon is to die for. Really worthwhile for tourists to take the trip up to 14th Street.
Kayla Graves
It was the second time my sister and I came here and both times we had Yana as a server (and sat a table next to where we sat the first time haha). I couldn’t remember which Nebbiolo we had the last time but we wanted it again because we loved it. Yana reminded us it was the Damilano and not only that, but she remembered EVERY course we had the last time. Even when it was time for dessert she asked “Are we doing the tiramisu again?”. She is super knowledgeable and there just when you need her.
We will definitely be back (we’ve dubbed this place “our spot”) and will definitely request Yana.
Stephan Soilleux
Super decor, with great atmosphere. I like the food eapecially the tagliatelle and the pizza.
Great tiramisu for diner.
Justin Donaldson
Really excellent, authentic pasta dishes, owner is super friendly. So glad we discovered this place!

Love. My fav is the pizza. Not only does it taste good, they give you these huge scissors to cut it with. Can't picture it? You have to go try it then.

Good restaurant but the cooking of the steak is a little off. Ask for rare if you want medium rare.
Annick Dall
The most authentic cacio e pepe I’ve had in this country! Excellent service, and all
the food was delicious. Go there!
Amit Nehil
Solid prices and ok cocktails during happy hour. Server was nice and pizza was fairly priced and delicious.
Busy B
Very friendly owner/server. Gave us nice wine recommendations. House made pasta was very good. Homemade pizza...delicious. The best dish was eggplant stuffed with quinoa and veggies! Delicious! Especially for vegetarians. So nice to have tiramisu on the house....a very nice way to end the evening. Ivy City is an interesting area of DC. Several good looking restaurants, a winery, and a distillery all within steps of each other. We will return.
Tom Jackson
Chicken and fish specials were great. Waitress was very helpful with recommendations. Great meal.
Sierra Adami-Koll
Food was so good. Service was really great too. My only complaint was that the high top table wasn't really the most comfortable.
Greg Costanzo
This quaint little Italian Gastro Pub is fantastic! Great atmosphere, excellent wine selection, and fantastic food. How can you beat that?
Ryan McGorty
Great pizza! You use scissors to cut up your pizza. It can get very loud during popular times.
Karina Rodrigues Brasil
Pizza was delicious but vongole pasta had some sand on it. Staff is very kind. I would return for drinks and pizza
Sinan Pismisoglu

Gordon Geise
Terrific food and a good wine list. A little pricey for the service level but really lovely food.
Richelle King
I found the staff accommodating one visit and curt the next. The food was good, but good food can be found all over the city now, I haven't been back.
Russell Thompson
Ger the steak. Not the 45 oz.. $100 one. Nice way to try a variety of Italian vinefera.
Lauren Redfield
Great service, would come back. Great that it doesn't close until 11 for a late dinner.
Philip Alipio
:: Highlights ::
- the wood-fired pizza complete w/ charred bits of crust
- the mixed drinks, e.g., the "Andiamo" a bitters-infused martini
- authentic, tasty "aperitivo-style" dishes like the "insalata di farro" and "calamari fritti"
- various choices for vegetarian/pescetarian diners
- child friendliness (we noticed several kids dining, and we were there with our 11-year old too)
:: Lowlights ::
- the noise level (the bar, on a Thurs night, certainly got busy [a good sign for business!] and conversation at our table proceeded at a near-shouting level)
L Q
Pizza is Good. Atmosphere is nice. When weather is nice you can sit outside. Nice experience
Rachel Fox
