This is a very nice Italian style restaurant in the Virginia Beach area. Service was friendly and welcoming and the restaurant had a clean, modern vibe to it. Heated outdoor seating was avaliable, and I took advantage of that. Food was very good as well, and I had a hard time choosing what to eat as a lot of the items sounded so good. My linguini and clam dish was smooth and delicious, and the tiramasu later on hit the spot. The bread butter and complimentary chocolates were in the shape of a turtle as well, which was a nice touch. Overall, if I was a local I'd eat here again and again.

Wow. Absolutely amazing! From the food to the service it was a wonderful experience! All the food was delicious with the breads and pastas all made in house. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We were able to get a few choices that are not listed on the menu for our 2yr old. She was able to get a cup of milk and buttered pasta with a little cheese. 10 stars would highly recommend and will definitely eat here again!

This place is classy, modern, and just good! The service is spectacular, above and beyond. the food is fresh fresh! Like, look at the turtle butter. Served with fresh made in house sourdough. They really outdid the experience and made it a great time. 👏 very pricey but made a great Birthday dinner for my girl! One she'll never forget💝

This was absolutely fantastic, was not super crowded, I had warm outside seating. My waitress Kate was so nice. I know I was super extra but she made my birthday dinner super fun. Thank you to the gentleman that let my have the Balloons at the front deck lol. Food was perfect, and the wine pairing was unique with the beef tartar..OMG The Rockfish was to die for YESSSSS.

We went to Terrapin tonight for our Anniversary. We sat out on the Terrace. They could not be more attentive. Even had menus printed up saying Happy Anniversary. It is pricey but no more pricey than any upscale restaurant where they labor over every detail. There is no cysco truck coming to Terrapin.Virginia Beach was never know for their restaurants but Terrapin is a game changer.

Had an amazing birthday dinner at Terrapin in VB. My boyfriend brought me here as a surprise celebration. Becky was one of the highlights. She was attentive, thoughtful, warming and welcoming. We enjoyed the food. Compliments to the chef. Had an all-around great experience and highly recommend for a nice evening out!

Very polite on arrival, quickly shown to table. Decor is smart and staff very friendly throughout. Food was excellent and had classy touches. Chicken (with Sage & Lemon sauce) was cooked perfectly and the apple tart was also superb. Prices are at the higher end but the restaurant was full because of the quality of staff and food.

This is by far, the best restaurant in the city. The love and care that is taken with the preparation of the food is insane. The attention to detail and focus on local produce is what makes Terrapin special. I hardly write google reviews, however people should know that Terrapin will not disappoint. We just came here for our anniversary dinner. Absolutely fantastic experience here! The food was amazing, and the staff was delightful! Even a power outage couldn't ruin the night with how the staff and management handled it. Had to go back for a second night for the full experience and we were blown away!

I enjoyed terrapin a lot. My only experience eating there was for their Valentine’s Day special 6 course dinner and it was delicious. My complaint would have been that it was very cramped and you were inches from the next couple but I think that was because of the event. The food was exquisite and the drinks were strong. Very polite staff!!! Only thing that is ruins it is the poor inferior which lacks class and is just plain ol run down looking . It needs an update badly but the food is on par with any top restaurant in the area.

We enjoyed our night out with great service and delicious food. Its a relaxing ambiance and the portion size is right for this kind of restaurant. I wouldn’t say it’s romantic but we had a fantastic dinner and enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend it.

We were blown away by the service. The food was a step above anything I have had in the area in a long time. Had to get a few pictures of the appetizers and desert but even they can’t do the food justice. The main was even better looking but I didn’t want to keep taking the phone out in such a classy spot. Next visit we’ll try the patio seating. Thanks for the attentiveness of our server. She made sure we had everything we wanted. Even if I did stray from the menu slightly. Thanks again for a memorable evening.

Last dinner in VA Beach before we head home. Went to @terrapinrestaurant AMAZING! The combo of flavors of the goat cheese, mandarin slices & beets was perfect. The ribeye for two was DELICIOUS. Perfectly cooked & salted. The asparagus grilled to perfection with the right amount of balsamic. And I really liked the apple crostini with the vanilla ice cream & the pistachios. Was on par with anything we would get at home in NYC or Jersey. Service impeccable. Thanks for having us. We shall return!

The ambiance and food were great. We were very causally dressed as we came directly from the beach and glad the restaurant did not fuss about the attire. The dishes were very well prepared and flavorful. The portions are small but that's what we like about high quality restaurants like this.

It’s top 10 restaurant at Virginia Beach. If you like seafood, you definitely need to try it. It is so fresh! Also people here are supper nice and friendly! It’s a little pricey, but it definitely worth it!

Based on the reviews, my husband and I celebrated our anniversary here. We were not disappointed. We were greeted with enthusiasm by the hostess and our server was great. The food was delicious. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and will be back.

I actually went last May to this gorgeous restaurant with a small group. We had initially made the reservation because they were a nice higher end place which was the theme of our trip, but also nicely reviewed already and upon sending them a message on Facebook, they said they would be happy to accommodate my friend's celiac- an allergy to gluten. Our expectations were high and we were not dissapointed. It seemed at first glance to be a great local favorite and there was no dress code that I could tell. We came dressed to the 9s but I could definitely come back in something more casual (but nice). The atmosphere was classy and comfortable, but this trip was about indulgence and they were more than willing to let us play out our fantasy of being rich and glamorous. The man who seated us actually offered us different colored napkins so they wouldn't leave color on our dresses. An incredible step above and beyond that was completely unprompted. We had some fabulous food to go with our outfits that night. The butter was shaped like a little turtle to go with the bread that was served with their incredible and sophisticated options on the tasting menu. Much of the food was described as local which was nice for us as visitors to the state. They also have a great wine selection with who I'm fairly sure is a sommelier, otherwise they just knew their wines very well. Of all the places we went to at Virginia Beach, their desserts were the best. They mentioned having a pastry chef whose name I really should write down. We had a gorgeous chocolate shelled treat that was melted at the table and one that was so satisfying that I broke the "No phones at the table" rule so we could have pictures of our desserts. I have no idea what this incredible apple dessert was called, but it was creamy and delicious enough where we actually asked for MORE of them to take back to our hotel. I have never asked for a second dessert to go, that's how incredible this was. They were plated in to go boxes like we had ordered them to sit down and we had them in the middle of the night with some wine and it was one of the best decisions we made the entire week. I'm looking at returning to VB someday in the next few months and Terrapin is one of the places we HAVE to revisit. We look forward to seeing what new treats and food they'll be serving when we return.

Arguably one of the last bastions of fine dining in Virginia Beach. Local produce and proteins rein supreme here, on a menu that is as seasonal as it is selective. Each item feels Hand picked and hand crafted, and often had the price tag to match. But each visit leaves me feeling like I paid for not just a meal, but an experience. From the first step in the door until the last bite, dinner at Terrapin feels like a bespoke experience, with service and atmosphere to match the five star cuisine. For those a little more guarded of their wallet, keep an eye out for some incredible values like taco night or fried chicken and pino Wednesdays!

We drove about an hour and 15 minutes to come here for our 11th anniversary, and we were so blown away by our whole experience! It was super easy to make a reservation online, they called us to confirm it the day of our dinner, and we were greeted (by a very friendly gentleman) with personalized menus that said “Happy Anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Lee” across the top - LOVE that! We were then given complimentary sparkling wine for a toast, which was completely unexpected. The food was absolutely incredible; we each did the 4-course tasting… and then some! We were so pleased with every dish, as well as the cocktail. Our server, Holly, was AMAZING - she made fantastic recommendations and the service was the best we’ve had anywhere. We also appreciated the servers’ teamwork. We can’t wait to come back! Thank you so much!

First time visit and really didn't know what to expect other than what I've read from the reviews. Food was absolutely delicious and worth the price! I had the roasted duck and my wife had the roasted halibut. Starter was the burrata. Our server was very courteous and knowledgeable about the food and drinks (wine and spirits) they served. Would definitely come again. I admit I had a different assumption regarding the interior of the restaurant since I didn't look at any photos. I was expecting something akin to a dimly lit restaurant with dark wood furniture, etc. It was well lit which I really appreciated. Great restaurant!

What a marvelous experience. Truly one of the best meals I've had in quite some time, even counting the beforetimes. We started off with the excellent house-made bread, then the beef dumplings (such a great blend of flavors) and the burrata (excellent tomatoes in March? How??). Then I had the shrimp tagliatelle, perfectly cooked plump shrimp with a delightfully creamy and lemony sauce. My friend opted for the excellent short rib rigatoni, the meat fell apart at the touch of a fork. We thought we might be too full for dessert, but the white chocolate panna cotta with citrus accents was just right, the perfect end to a spectacular meal. I'm sorry I don't live closer or I would be a regular, but I'll definitely come back anytime I'm in Virginia Beach.

They reopened and we went as soon as the doors opened. Beautiful inside and the food was great. Just had a couple apps and drinks. Check out the signature drinks. They have honeysuckle vodka and a gin drink with preserves that is out of this world and I don't ever drink gin. But I will when we go back

I went for my birthday, they even put "Happy Birthday" on the menu. The staff were so gracious and professional. I added a picture of the dish I loved most, the salmon tartar. It was really fresh and delicious. The wine selection was also very good! This was a very special birthday dinner and I would love to visit again.

I really enjoyed the restaurant, atmosphere, and staff, however, I didn't love the food. The seafood pasta flavor was unmatched to the overpowering taste of lemon. The shrimp within the pasta didn't have much flavor on its own either. The Bouillabaisse was pretty good, but wasn't filling for the price. The blend of spice and flavor worked well with all the varieties of seafood within the plate.

Fantastic experience from the moment we walked in. Owner and chefs gave us a wonderful greeting. Holly was a fabulous server. The beef dumplings, shrimp pomodoro, short rib rigatoni, peanut butter chocolate bar and peach melba were perfectly made and absolutely delicious. All in a nice, clean, quiet atmosphere. My wife and I had a great experience! We made a reservation online which was super easy while the restaurant wasn’t open. Waitstaff: Fantastic, super professional and knowledgeable about the entire menu and drinks! FOOD: We got the lamb and pasta. It was perfectly cooked and did not disappoint. (Crudo) Was easily the best thing we had that night! It was flounder and tuna. I had no idea flounder tasted so good!! (Oysters) i wouldn’t not recommend, the size and flavor was pretty weak. See attached picture. It was $2.00 an oyster. I love eating oysters so this wasn’t a first time try and didn’t like. They were missing something maybe when washed it wasn’t with a salt brine. DRINKS: We got a few different cocktails and we’re very impressed!! I can’t remember the names but i still remember the taste! PRICE: Fair for quality and quantity.

Went there for my 6th wedding anniversary, called ahead and let them aware the occasion and they made a special menu for us when we arrived and also offered complimentary wine for us, all the staff who attended the table congrats us, I'm amazed by the service, definitely a 10/10, we grabbed a bite before our dinner so both of us are not too hungry, so we settled on the 3 course meal for $45 each, I'm amazed by the price from a $$$$ restaurant, overall experience reminded us some of the one star Michelin star restaurants we been to, definitely recommend bring your love one here on a special occasion.

Last night we celebrated our anniversary at Terrapin, and I can't compliment the establishment enough! The personal touches for our celebration were unique and thoughtful (I won't spoil the surprises for anyone else planning to visit). Johanna, our server, went above and beyond - a true professional. All of the staff was attentive, professional and friendly. AND THE FOOD!! So delicious - we had Burrata, Filet Mignon and Cioppino, Chevre Cheesecake and Apple Tatin. Everything was perfectly prepared and delectable. I'm a very tough critic of fine dining - I'm usually disappointed about something - but Terrapin was a delight. We will definitely return often. Thank you, Johanna!

So many great things to say about this place. You get what you pay for. Expect to drop a decent amount of money on the bill, but you will not be disappointed. The mussels are fantastic. I had our waitress put the leftover broth from the mussels in a to-go container. I don't think there is a bad choice on the menu. Terrapin is the best restaurant at the oceanfront.

The food was honestly much better than I expected, very fresh and seasoned perfectly, but the level of customer service at this establishment is TOP NOTCH!! You will not be disappointed. My experience was a little different, but I’m here leaving a review for that very reason. My original reservation was for 815, but due to unforeseen circumstances didn’t think we would make it to the restaurant before the last seating at 845, so with less than 8min to get to the restaurant I called and spoke to Brian to cancel. Mind you this is probably the third time I’ve talked to him haha! To my surprise he ensured me he would still seat us so we could celebrate my brother’s birthday. This kind of service is RARELY seen these days PLUS Brian even met his tardy diners at the door and seated us immediately. I honestly didn’t even care that much about the food at that point because I was so taken aback. Eric, our server was also amazing and helped me make some good wine choices. We will definitely be back. Eric and Brian thanks again so much for turning a pretty hectic day into a nice relaxing finish.

Terrapin gets great reviews and we were looking forward to the meal, but ended up disappointed. Food was adequate but nothing special, and price was high (over $400 for 4 with one bottle of wine. Tip is mandatory at 20 % and included in the bill). Beet salad was good as was octopus. Lobster pasta was mediocre and didn't come to the table hot. Halibut was good but nothing special in preparation. Duck pasta average. Overall, a change of pace from usual seafood fare but be prepared to pay a lot for everyday food. Good service though.

Food and service was really good. The restaurant was very nice on the inside. My only complaint was there was a loud group of women in the bar area that were being extremely load. I asked the waiter to say something in the hopes they would quiet down but unfortunately he didn’t say anything to them nor did they quiet down. This was to be a fun intimate evening out with my wife on her birthday which was continuously interrupted with load conversation and cackling from the group.

We visited Terrapin Restaurant while we were vacationing at Virginia Beach, and the experience we had was one of the highlights of our trip! We drove to the restaurant from our hotel and were delighted to see a lot of free parking available. We had made a reservation online and were seated very quickly upon arrival. We sat in the outside area which was decorated with plants and string lights. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere. Our waiter and the rest of the staff were also very friendly! My partner and I both decided to do the 4-course meal experience where you can pick an appetizer, pasta, entrée and dessert for $62 per person. Before the appetizer arrived, we got some fresh bread with butter in the shape of terrapins, it was very cute! All of the dishes were plated well and made to perfection! We will be sure to visit this restaurant again when we are in the area!

We always search for the best restaurants in Va Beach when we visit on vacation. Well, this one is always the best! We keep coming back here because the food is perfection and the attention to detail that is given to our experience there! We had the chefs tasting menu 2 nights in a row. Between the two of us we sampled many dishes and they were all delicious. Don't believe the hype on the latest, greatest restaurants... they don't hold a candle to Terrapin. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation at the real number one restaurant....Terrapin!

Beautiful Establishment. The manager Bryan was so friendly and welcoming. Their Bartender Jordan was so knowledgeable and gave honestly the best customer Service I've ever had sitting at a bar. It wasnt crowded, the wait and kitchen staff didnt seem overwhelmed and the overall environment was amazing. I highly reccomend this spot for any occasion couple would love it as they have a 4 course tasting menu that my husband and I thorougly enjoyed.

The staff are so welcoming, and the atmosphere is very nice. The tables are spaced out perfectly for covid restrictions, and they take your temperature before you’re seated. The drinks were good. The real downfall for us was the price did not measure the quality of food. My boyfriend did not enjoy the beef dumpling appetizer, and I did not enjoy the scallop entree. I have a nut allergy that is very sensitive and it may have something to do with how the meal affected me. The tiramisu was great! The pudding was okay. Overall, we felt the price was not worth the quality we received.

In a word: quality. Fun "New American" dishes prepared using fresh, high-quality ingredients. My crispy pork shoulder was delicious, as was my beef tartare starter. The staff was extremely friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and helpful throughout our dining experience. Add to this a bar that is putting out high-end cocktails and an extensive wine list, and this is a must-visit restaurant in Virginia Beach. Reservations recommended on popular nights.

My wife discovered this restaurant while we were taking a walk on the boardwalk. We stopped by without a reservation and the host was gracious enough to take us in. We had a lovely dinner on our last night at Virginia Beach and it will definitely be our first stop the next time we go to the beach. My son loved the pasta with shrimp and my ribeye was plentiful.

I passed this restaurant while driving through Virginia beach and honestly, was intrigued by the name. As an alumni of the University of Maryland, a spot named after the Terrapin? Say less. Upon arriving back to my hotel I called the restaurant and was able to make a reservation. When we arrived we were primed for an experience, the ambience was modern, cute, and inviting. The hostess was extremely charming as she walked us to our table. Our waitress, Holly, was on another level. She was everything you could want from a server, knowledgable, friendly, helpful, and attentive. She truly elevated our night from a dinner to an experience. When we received our menus, we noticed the restaurant had taken the time to print us a special copy of the menu congratulating us on our recent marriage. We got the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Everything we consumed from the congratulatory prosecco to the final bite of dessert was phenomenal. Stand outs included the beef tartar, the pork chop, the scallops, and the flourless chocolate cake. The wine pairings were thoughtful and deliberate. Even our after dinner espresso with a twist of lemon rind was absolute perfection. My only regret is that this restaurant is in Virginia, and not closer to my home in Phoenix. Holly, the food, the ambience, everything was perfect. We will cherish this meal for years to come, and I would come back to Virginia Beach solely to eat here again.

Went here for our anniversary on last Tuesday and staff was very nice and good atmosphere, good drinks, but the food was just hit or miss, they undercooked their potatoes so not exactly a fine dining experience

Going here was my first actual experience with fine dining. I went with my girlfriend for dinner, and it was the best dinner I've ever had. The atmosphere was very nice and the service was impeccable. The food was extremely delicious and fresh. I got the Mac and cheese with truffle which was good but not great probably because I'm not really a big fan of Mac and cheese in the first place. I then had some soup I think it was the beet soup and it was thick and rich in flavor, very delicious. For my entree, I got the trout cooked medium rare which was the chef's recommendation, and it was one of the best things I have eaten. The fish was perfectly cooked, nice sear on the outside but still somewhat raw inside, and I could definitely taste the freshness. My last dish was the creme brulee and it was perfectly done, nice caramelized crust on top and it was the perfect sweetness. Overall, I can't wait to come back, and I know consider it as one of my favorite restaurants.

Terrapin is one of my very favorite local restaurants. It is smaller and I love that. They have a great bar area and outside dining if you want something more casual. All food is local. There is always seasonal changes to the menu, but they keep favorites like there amazing truffle mac and cheese! The food is always something new and inventive. The cocktails are well thought out and delish. I suggest getting a wine pairing menu! The service here is impeccable too. We went this time for there famous truffle dinner and it was an experience I will not forget. This local favorite will not disappoint you and you will be coming back for years just like us.

One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a while. Came here with my wife for our first year anniversary. Staff was friendly and attentive. Decor and lighting was beautiful. I do wish the tables were a little wider but it didn’t impact our dinner in a significant way. I had a parsnip soup and seafood risotto to start. The soup was delicious, smooth, with no grain or lumps of any kind. The risotto was cooked perfect and it was probably the best thing I’ve eaten at a restaurant since I took a trip to LA last year. It was absolutely gorgeous. My entree was a classic bouillabaisse, a bit under seasoned, but all the flavors were there. I will be returning very soon.

Loved this restaurant. A bit pricey but to me really worth it. Farm to table food that was new, exciting and complex without missing the mark on flavor just to be innovative. I had a lamb dish that was tender and had that perfect seasoning that left salty flavors on my lips. The drinks were great and the atmosphere was mature and full of the eclectic style that shows a design in tune with a passion to present a dinning experience and not just a place to eat. Loved it.

Beautiful and clean atmosphere with an absolutely wonderful wait staff. If you like champagne they also have an incredibly affordable bottle for $30, it's called lunetta and I swear it tastes like green apples. All in all an amazing experience. 10/10

Went for my 5 year anniversary. Not exactly a button up and tie setting but we didn't feel out of place being dressed up either. The wait staff was absolutely outstanding. It was a busy night and the wait for our food was longer than expected but the staff was very attentive. We chose the tasting menu and every dish was amazing. Strongly recommend if you are in VA beach.

My wife and I went here for dinner for her birthday. The service is absolutely first rate. Our server, Nerissa, who apparently was new to this restaurant and had a shadow, was fantastic. We were at Terrapin last night for a birthday dinner. We started off at the bar with a pineapple daiquiri and a habanero tequila old fashioned. Both drinks were fantastic and the bartender was delightful. Once we were seated at our table we had the beef tartar which was very nicely done. The mustard emulsion gave it a nice “next level” flavor. For mains, we each had one of the highly recommended pasta dishes. I’m not going to say which ones, because you need to try them all!! The house made pasta is cooked perfectly and has a very nice texture. All of the flavors blended perfectly with the sauce to create a very balanced dish. Overall I would say that Terrapin delivers a great dining experience with their very polite and helpful staff and amazing culinary delights.

The service "Aces" the cocktails, wine selection and meal was hands down something I did not expect to find in Virginia Beach. The cuisine was worthy of some of the best restaurants in NYC. This is my favorite fancy restaurant in all of Virginia Beach. If I need to come somewhere for a birthday or a date or special occasion, this is the place I think of. Want to bring me out for a nice meal and surprise me or make me happy? Bring me here. If you tell them when you book that it's a birthday or celebration - they will print a special menu with your or a guest's name on it and then roll it up as a keepsake to take home. It's a cute, personal touch. Again (my theme) this restaurant sources locally from farms and nearby suppliers so the menu is tempered by what is available and in-season but there are some things that are always on the menu. The chef has burger and taco nights and you can join the mailing list to find out about monthly culinary events. They have a lovely patio you can sit on in warmer months that is covered and has warming lamps. I love it. My favorite items on the menu are their risotto (the flavor and ingredients change but it is always delicious), pasta (house-made), and scallops. Really it is all good though. They have delicious coffee in a fine french-press and ever-changing desserts with delicious options - last time I had a dark and orange chocolate bomb that was AMAZING! They really take pride in service here and the staff are polite, prompt and efficient. This is the kind'a place where you'll get a black napkin if you are wearing a dark outfit instead of white, they'll take your coat at the door, they ask if it's a special occasion or if there are allergies when you make your reservation, and if they try to bring your food to the table while one of your party is in the bathroom, they'll sneak off and keep it warm in the kitchen until you have returned so they can give you both your plate at the same time. I love it.

Casual fine dining. Came here as a recommendation from the innkeeper at the BNB that we were staying at. Looked at the other reviews for this establishment and the other 5 stars were pretty much on the mark for what we experienced. On the menu, go for the items with the green turtle next to them. Shareable table items are a must. The French onion soup I really enjoyed. I think the portion size is larger than most restaurants serve, with plenty of onions, cheese and croutons all the way to the last spoonful.

We started off with the cheese board. It had two cow milk cheeses and one goat milk cheese, apples, homemade spicy mustard, candied pecans, homemade jam, toasted bread, Granny Smith apples...so many good flavors. For dinner I had Fresh homemade clam pasta, and he had short ribs that practically melted in your mouth. The presentation was out of this world. Dessert was a chocolate "Gift for you" which was the perfect size to share. If you want beach fine dining, this is your place. The food was so fresh and appetizing.

We celebrated our anniversary there last night. Because of Covid there were restrictions when making reservations. I sent an email to the restaurant on a day they were closed. They actually returned my email with a phone call. Contrary to what we found at other locations (stores and restaurants) they took measures in addition to offering hand sanitizer that made our visit feel safe. They even printed personalized menus for our anniversary. The rood was delicious with nice size portions. We would definitely revisit.

There are a lot of mid-range eateries in VB but there are very few quality high end restaurants that are worth the money. Terrapin is definitely one of the best that I've been to in VB.

I gave a 4 star rating specifically for the food and feel of the restaurant. The food was spectacular from the 1st course to the last, and I enjoyed the feeling I got once I entered the restaurant..welcomed and that my business was appreciated. But that is strictly the basis of the 4 star rating. I will give credit where credit is due, the duck was perfectly cooked. But I will never return to this establishment, why? In this day and age a lot of people throw the "race" card around lightly, but for me perception is reality. my reservation was for 8 pm. There were tables seated around us to the left, right, and in front of us between the times of 9-9:45. At that point we'd been seated for nearly two hours and had only received our first course. While the tables around us were working m their second, I tossed it up to it being a busy night..until the table to our left received their desserts at the same time as us. I was perplexed but again, brushed it off. My last straw was when the manager/owner whoever it was made it a point to visit every table around us to check and see how their meal went and if everything was ok. Again, not pulling the race card BUT perception is reality. And the icing on the cake we received a forgotten goodbye after we had already excited the restaurant. Amazing food, but I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Nice little upscale place for a special night out. I got the Terrapin Experience which is a 4 course meal for $60, it was quite the deal for all the food we got. It does require full table participation but it is worth it, and that's what I would recommend to anyone who wants to go here.

The food was good, but does not live up to the cost. The service was good and attentive, but flawed with pretentiousness. My biggest issue was the comment made early in the service. Our server encouraged us to order items from each course so that it could come out in the order the chef prefers us to eat. While this is okay if you want to tell your patrons how to eat, but make sure that you don't place rich foods at the beginning of the meal. We started with a creamed crab and corn soup which was tasty, but it was so heavy and rich that we didn't feel quite right for the remainder of our dining experience. We basically started out meal of with a large cup of heavy cream and starch.

My husband and I were celebrating my birthday. The service was excellent and the food far exceeded my expectations. I had the Baby Beet Salad as my first course. This plate arrived as a colorful masterpiece. The varying types of roasted beets with goat cheese was delicious. My second course was the truffle Mac & cheese. The homemade cork screw pasta & creamy cheese sauce was great. Then I had the cauliflower steak with caramelized onions & capers. WOW! When our waitress brought my Hearts of Chocolate dessert there was a single lit candle on the plate and we were in awe of this beautiful work of art. Such a warm fuzzy feeling kind of place. The food is excellent, perfectly executed and full of flavor. Wednesday nights are my favorite, the fried chicken dinner is unlike any other fried chicken I've ever had. I think they brine it before they fry it, it's so tender and perfect, there's also something about the breading or batter on it, it's not traditional but I would like for it to be! The truffle mac n cheese is so yummy too. That beet salad is not something you want to miss either! Don't share it!!

Very open and modern decor and very attentive all male waitstaff. The ambiance was perfect for small groups and couples. The bar area was lively but not intrusive to the ambiance. Reminded me of a NYC upper eastside restaurant. Filled with upscale locals and those who follow in those circles. About the food....They start you off with a slice of artisinal sourdough bread with butter molded into terrapin turtles. Yum! The menu when i went was american continental had homemade pasta dishes some modern, some traditional and a variety of meat and seafood entrees and a duck entree as well. They also have a few sharable entrees which are priced accordingly. They use mattawoman farms veggies as well as farmers market seasonal produce in all their dishes. The appetizers were shareable as well as the desserts. Very good drink menu with custom drinks, wines, beers, ciders from all over the country.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Great food, amazing staff, good drinks and food that is incredible makes for a great experience. I came here with my parents to celebrate a birthday, and we had a great time. The service was vert attentive, knowledgable, and friendly (our waiter was delightful), but in a non-intrusive way. The food was spectacular! From the cauliflower steak to the rib eye, the peppers to the beat salad, and everything in between, the courses were cooked to perfection. The flavors are complex but not overbearing, leaving a subtle but exquisite taste profile to enjoy. We only had one cocktail between the three of us but it was my favorite I have had in a while, and certainly one of the best in Va Beach. The wine selection was pretty good, and we settled on a fruity Virginia pinot noir. It seems you can have a formal pairing if you desire, but we opted not to purchase that. I will add that one of our party is a vegan, and they easily accomodated him. Our waiter was very clear on what he could enjoy, and the kitchen was more than happy to 'veganize' some of the menu items. It is not always easy to get ample options for vegans, but he was left wanting for nothing. We were also cordially greated and welcomed by the staff and we felt like royalty the whole time. We will definitely be back when we have our next celebration!

Took my girlfriend here for our 1 year anniversary. They sat us at this awkward booth/chair table thing that you typically find in Denny's. We are both larger than your average person, so a little forethought could've been used I guess, but I stuck it out even after being whacked in the head with plates and patrons trying to get around me and the other person sitting 9 inches behind me. We had our orders in when they sat another couple right beside us (1 ft space between table) and the dude kept blowing his nose and basically killed my mood at that point. They brought their food out before we got our first course...pretty sure they messed up our order with theirs somehow, but that would be too much text to explain. BUT even after this inconvenience and the wait...the first course, pumpkin curry, was amazing. The second course was good, I didn't really appreciate the shrimp/risotto taste as much as somebody else, but it was still good. The scallops where hands down the best I've EVER had in my life. Almost gelatinous, with a seared top on a bed of 2 different types of mushrooms. My girlfriend got the octopus which was cooked very well, blindfolded, you probably wouldn't guess it was octopus, and she had the pork belly ravioli which was also really good. Dessert was good, didnt really wow me, but the coconut sorbet was nice (also probably the best value pound for pound on the menu) Our waiter was nice, his French accent made it easier to spend a car payment on food and service. If they would take one table out of there to make a little more space, or sat us somewhere with some more room or privacy, I would've given them 5 stars.

I don't think I could say enough amazing-ness of this place. This is our second time here and they did not disappoint. Yes, out of 4 orders one had to be sent back due to not being enough 'rare' however is was quickly recovered and received without issue. Ad we were told it was a teaching moment. Great bourbons were discovered, overall our second most amazing experience at the restaurant. We did for our second visit choose the tasting menu. All four of us chose to go that route. No one was disapointed.

Bit crowded inside, fairly close to the table next to you. That alone will keep me away. Ordered fish, specifically asked that it be fully cooked, arrived undercooked. The waiter, attentive until the meals arrived, did not come by to check on our food. Another polite worker took my fish back to be completely cooked. It did come back cooked with an apology. Did not notice anything profound about this "farm to fork" concept, except, perhaps, a lot of butter on the final cooked product. The basil ice cream was very good. An observation: It would appear the staff is more attentive and courteous to their "regulars" or however their judgement on patrons is decided. I was not inspired to return and will not. Final comment. go elsewhere.

So i booked this place for our 1 year wedding anniversary. It was our first time going to this restaurant and from the minute we got there it was great. We sat at the bar first before we were seated and of course I had no idea what to get. I told the bar tender what I’m into but I’m so indecisive. So She told me hey let me make you something I think you’ll like. And she hit it. It was great! Dinner was pretty good too. Maybe could of used alittle more seasoning but the ceviche was great! I think the main reason for this review is the attention to detail they give their guests. Everyone that serviced us knew it was our anniversary. That rarely happens. And they gave us complimentary glasses of wine to start. I don’t think I’ve felt so special. But it gets better. When our menus came, they printed on the menus happy anniversary mr and Mrs Couillard! I was blown away. Im like no this is not happening.!! That had to be the sweetest thing any restaurant has ever done. I would tell anyone to go here . I’d take something like this any day over a cheesy song! I just want to say thank you !! I’ll recommend this place for sure. Cute first date spot to guys !!

Good restaurant with solid atmosphere, but food is underwhelming for the price. We started of with the charcuterie which was delicious, then ordered a second, and when our soups came out following that they were still hot and fresh. The first and seconds were tasty and well prepared, and the same went for the entrees, but they were not as amazing as you would expect them to be. The prices were pretty steep which would have been ok if the meal was stellar, but the lackluster entrees were just enough to get the job done.

This restaurant has a nice contemporary feel to it. Fresh oysters, a rockfish catch of the day, these are the kinds of items you'll find here. You can eat a la carte, or do a prix fixe arrangement of four dishes. Interestingly, they do not shrink the portions if you are having four courses. The dishes are attractively plated, and the waitstaff seems to be trying hard, though they may be overworked on a busy night.

Terrapin is consistently perfect. Excellent cuisine, excellent service. Casual elegance at its finest. The menu is often changing due to the obsession with local farm-to-table and sea-to-table focus. My favorite example is the octopus they offer in season: most restaurants turn octopus into used chewing gum, but Terrapin cooks it via sous vide for hours, then sears it at the end-- resulting in the most amazing dish ever! The new pastry chef is AMAZING! Be sure to order the Tree of Zen dessert!

The food here was excellent. I had an amazing appetizer and desert which were the Frito Misto and the Creme Brûlée. These were excellent, but the entree. The only issue i had was with my entree order which was the Steak Frites. This is a steak with French Fries. There is no twist or a spin on the fries, they are just regular french fries. The steak had a reddish tint on the exterior, had an odd smell, and tasted as if it were wild caught meat (gamey). It is possible I chose the wrong entree, because my wife loved her Bouillabaisse. Overall i enjoyed the food.

Our party of 7 was not a fan of the food nor the service! The prices are ridiculous for the portion size! Our server made us ALL feel like we were a burden, judged as if we would not tip accordingly, and had no interest in giving great customer service. So I'd like to start out with the good here. TERRAPIN'S food is absolutely spectacular!!! I had the duck (for the first time eating duck btw) and my lady friend had shrimp pasta. The duck was tender, slightly sweet,garlicky and tasted just right. My friend's order on the other hand came with some great sized jumbo shrimp. Which tasted incredible, probably the best I have tasted in my life and I've traveled the world in my naval career. Another great plus was the service, the staff was very friendly and motivated. Made you feel at home and have great personalities. Terrapin is very creative with putting my name on the menu, which provided a suprising but yet very warm welcome. Now my only issue with terrapin which justifies my score. The portion sizes were small, like kids meal small. I'm a in shape, very active grown man, and my counterpart and i felt short changed. We felt like another plate was on the way with a side or something but no there wasn't any of the sort. If you ordered duck, then you just got duck, no mashed potatoes, rice, French fries,salad or sides of any sort. And for this restaurant's potential, it was quite a downer. Sure the food was very delicious and should be reviewed in its own right, with a amazing staff to ease your wait. But, it didn't matter to me in the end when I was still hungry after my entree. Wanting more and not in a positive way. Once again the portion sizes did not justify the prize what so ever, and when one goes to a restaurant, its to hopefully feel a sense of reliefe both in the mind and the tummy...

Terrapin is an exceptional restaurant in Virginia beach. I have eaten here many times over the years. Terrapin is a "go to"' restaurant when we have family or friends visiting from out of town . I even had a surprise birthday party for my wife here. The food, wine, and staff all made the evening amazing and memorable . In general , everything on the menu is top notch. My personal favorites are the tenderloin entrees and Mac n cheese.

Probably one of the best restaurants at the beach. I can only come up with 2 others that would come close. Very expressive, but the food reflects it. I had a filet mignon, with an amazing soup that I can not recall and dessert. Even their butter is top class and shaped like little turtles.

It was a lovely night, eighty degrees and we chose to be seated outside. Except for the occasional F18 overhead, that is much quieter. I had the Quail and their famous Mac Cheese, Kathy had the Seared Scallops and a Cold Cantelope soup. It was hard choosing, the menu is well thought out, it has an Italian inspiration, but the chef is very creative. For dessert we opted for the Edmead's Zinfandel Port. The service was impeccable, the cool LED light that attached to the umbrella pole was a nifty tough. There were a couple of mosquitos, so think about adding insect repellant to maximize your experience if you eat outside. I would be happy to go there again.

The food and staff were great, One problem is what I call plop and smear also it is a set menu. You will need to reserve seating. Bring your wallet with you the plop N smear will cost you $75.00 dollars a plate plus extras and tip, parking is free the lot is small also used by other business use the lot.

What an amazing place to celebrate my birthday with my husband! First I would like to recommend this to anyone celebrating a special occasion with a loved one. They personalize the menu, it is quite sweet if you think about it, and a keep sake if you’re like me. The service and the food were… beyond expectations. Attentive. Delicious food. From the fresh starters of raw oysters & beef dumplings, to our dinners the beef short rib rigatoni & the Josper filet (perfectly rare), shared truffle mac n cheese to the sublime desserts, mine a Tiramisu and his (I’ll share what pics we decided to take)… at the end of our evening our oceanfront’s Terrapin surpassed every expectation and made my birthday even that more special. ❤️ Thank you. We look forward to coming back soon.
