From start to finish this place was great. Our sever Rachel was great. Lump crab cakes were worth every penny. Fried oysters totally awesome. And who wouldn't be happy without some shrimp tacos.. Soooo good. Restaurant has that old school family friendly atmosphere and amazing food.. Get it!!!!

No Sound But The Wind

The food was good and our waiter was on it, the broccoli hollandaise sauce is always a good choice!! The fish in the broil platter was bland and the crab cake taste a little different from the last time I had it. It was a bit loose and not really firm if that makes sense, but other than that everything else was good!

Absolutely fantastic place and I must say I like this place even more than I like Aberdeen Barn the reason why is it's very laid-back without pressure from staff. They didn't ask me 10000 times in 30 minutes how do I like my meal trying to hurry up and get me out of there. The food tastes just as great at half the price. Yes they don't have mirrors on the ceiling which I really don't care about. Our waiter for the night was absolutely fantastic her employee number was 9344 forgot her name but she was extremely nice and had a great sense of humor. Now if you need a new heat pump furnace or air conditioner contact Tidewater home repair that's me wishing you a blessed day :-)

My family and I enjoyed a perfect meal at Surf Rider on New Year's Day. The service was quite exceptional. I cannot remember our waitress' name, but she was very attentive. The food came out quickly (partially due to the empty dining room, I'm sure) and was AMAZING! The whole family was pleased with the experience. My only gripe, and it's minor and has nothing to do with the food or service, is the decor. It's pretty dated and every single picture needs to be straightened. Like I said, minor gripe. If you want some great seafood with a friendly experience, this is the place for you!

This restaurant is a nice place to stop in with a friend and have a casual lunch. I had the shrimp tacos and my friend had the flounder lunch plate.. It's a nice spot to relax and enjoy and enjoy a good lunch. The staff is nice and very helpful. We will be back. When you have to wait for a seat mid-week, it's a good sign. 😀 …

Great fresh seafood. The broccoli side is almost a full head of broccoli, the hollandaise sauce that goes with it is fantastic. We have been going to this restaurant for 25 plus years. The only thing I would change is have she crab soup back on the menu. Last night was broccoli cheddar with crab, just not the same. They don't take reservations. Would highly recommend.

We had our Company Christmas Party here in their private room. (28) people - Crystal took care of us. She was Fantastic!! Her attention to detail was evident in everything she did. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was festive, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure everyone was taken care of. Can't say enough good things about Surf Rider and Crystal. We will definitely be back !!

Each restaurant is unique. Surf Rider has several locations. This one has a more laid-back atmosphere. The food, as with all of them, is excellent. It can seem a little pricey, but well worth it.

Went here recently for dinner and was slightly disappointed. I ordered the lump crab which was over all good but a little dry and mashed potatoes and corn as my sides. the corn was good but the mashed potatoes were horrible. Our waitress was very sweet though.

I absolutely love SURFRIDER as a whole company. I loved working there. I love the employees. I love my manager, management staff and owners. The food is always fresh and super tasty. Always consistent in sizes and portions as well as quality. Dine in or Take out, always consistent. SurfRider loves their customers. I can't wait untill the new location is built to continue the legacy.

Great service and very good food. Large shaved headed manager man was mouthing words to song and sway dancing side to side while bagging food to go. Too cute floor show - had no idea anyone was watching. Excellent jumbo shrimp and clam strips.

AMAZING, ❤Best place Ever!!!🍽😋🙌😊 Family oriented We love this place..The seafood is always fresh..We order our usual- The Chesapeake Burger🍔, which consist of fresh hambuger & jumbo lump crabmeat ( no fillers) and the Trio (raw clams, oysters and shrimp🦐) The last time we were here it was 10 years ago. Pricey and the portion sizes are small. We ordered the shrimp and crab combo that comes with two sides. We ordered to-go so maybe that's why I orders looked so much smaller than the orders we saw for dine-in.

A classic seaside seafood place. Lots of fried options, hush puppies with everything! I had grilled salmon fillets which were excellent, served with the largest broccoli floret I have ever seen. Waitress took great care of our 3-generation 8-top group, very fast, charming, and attentive. A solid four stars!

I've gone to this location and the one at Greenbriar. Have always been pleased with the food and service. I ordered she crab soup, the crab cake and shrimp combo with broccoli to go. However, when I got home my crab cake was burnt. I immediately took a pic of my order and called the location to tell them about my experience. The manager was very apologetic and offered to replace my order. The food is good and I would go again. However, I now feel like I need to visibly check take out orders before leaving.

Design' s the Limit

The food was awesome, the service spectacular, BUT the amount of single use plastic was overwhelming. Drinks are served with a plastic straw without asking and condiments are served in plastic cups with lids for dine-in. The children's drinks were served in styrofoam cups with plastic lids with straws although they prefer to be served in adult glasses and asked for no straws when ordering. Disappointing to see the volume of plastic and lack of care in reducing waste.

Really good seafood at a reasonable price. I prefer the broiled seafood platter, ($24). While there, try the she crab soup. It is thick, rich & very good. The hush puppies are also really good & well done, not over cooked like a lot of places. The scallops are good sized & excellent. They do have carry out, but they get busy so the stop carry out service at about 5pm. Their daily special & lunch specials are also very good. The 2 Surf Rider's that I have eaten at are both good.

The food took about 30-45 minutes to come out. Half of our party was done eating prior to the rest of the party recieving ood. Then when we did get the main entrees our sides were incorrect. The manager attributed it to staffing issues. Needless to say, we go here alot and usually have no issues but was very disappointed this time.

I was hoping for a menu with more variety and it was more expensive than I thought it would be . I have been to other places with similar seafood themes. If you do plan to go here look at the menu and prices prior to heading out. The staff was friendly and attentitive as can be. Great food! The restaurant is very careful with social distancing. We felt safe enjoying our meal. The food portion size is good. Our server was very attentive and on point. She filed our drinks with no prompting. We both had the fried shrimp entree (6) and I was only able to get through half of them because they were so large. We also enjoyed the she-crab soup which was delicious. Huge hunks of crabmeat. Overall, one of my favorite local restaurants!

We love this place. We arrived around 630 on Saturday evening and were seated immediately. Server did a great job and the food was wonderful. It’s a very relaxed, family atmosphere. Crab cake best ever, coleslaw was fresh and yummy. One in party had a wedge salad and said it was awesome. Broiled seafood platter also great. Plenty of food for the money. We will return.

Everything they serve is awesome! From fried oysters and scallops to grilled and fried flounder. They also serve shecrab soup, which is fantastic, and a big favorite with everyone. Their customer service is spot on and the manager is completely locked on. She treats everyone like family and cares that you have an incredible dinning exerience. Her great care shows and we love going there every time we come home to visit family.

Friendly waitstaff, I usually get crab cakes. They are always delicious, opted for seabass and was very disappointed. The fish was so overcooked it was like shoeleather . Burnt brown on the bottom and mealy, not what I'm used to at Surfrider. Was a patron since the eighties .

Recently returned to this location. First visit i had the fish and chips. Lightly battered and golden brown, great crunch. Steamed broccoli with hollandaise is simple but oh so yummy. This second visit I had clam strips..they are not froze, prepared that day. It came with 2 sides, but I chose double Caesar salad. Homemade dressing. So good. Highly recommended. Great staff.

This place was really good, I wish I could have gone to their place on the water but it was closed for season. The food, drinks , and atmosphere were still solid. The server was knowledge and nice. She even gave me a good tip for a hike I was going on the next day. I had raw oysters fries shrimp and fried clams. Clams were amazing. They were tender with a perfect light breading. They had to be clam bellies instead of strips that a lot of places use. Everything was perfect except for one oyster i probably would not have served, but it was edible. I will go back next time i am in town.

Being from Minnesota, we always look for good seafood. This place was recommended by the hotel we are staying at and we're they dead on. I had stuffed rock fish that was very good. The crab cake was amazing and enhanced the flavor of the fish perfectly. My wife had the scallops, crab, shimp and flounder and had a challenge identifying what was her favorite. The steamed broccoli was one of the largest portions ever seen. Combine all of this with great service and it is a great family restaurant that you should visit.

We had one of the best seafood dinner ever. My wife ordered the fisherman's platter, my daughter ordered fried clams, and I had the oyster special. We also ordered the steamed broccoli that is a meal in itself- just great!. Everything was delicious except my wife didn't like the fish especially. Everything else was perfect, perhaps the best clams and oysters we have had. My wife and daughter ordered salads which were great- they make the dressings on site. Heather was our waitress and she gave perfect, friendly service. The food was so plentiful, we took "doggy boxes" home to make another meal. Prices are reasonable.

I used to frequent this place often but I moved out of the Virginia Beach area last March. While in town visiting, I ordered take out. The process was easy and I was pleasantly surprised the food was as good as I remembered. The ordering and curbside pickup was a breeze; all contactless. Very pleased.

Excellent! I had the fried oysters - big and juicy and fried just right. For my side, I had their signature broccoli and cream sauce. The hubby had their crab cakes - another dish that they're known for. They were also done perfectly. We had no room for dessert, so I have no idea about that. This was our third time going here within 30 days. The first time we did take out and it was delicious! We then decided that we would dine in on our next visit, which was the following weekend. All three times, the food was EXCELLENT. Everything tasted perfect. You can get their special bistro sauce, hollandaise sauce, or even old bay on the side. The staff are all very friendly and professional. The dining area is spacious and not cramped at all. There are tables and booths. There is also a bar with TV's around it. There was not a long wait to be seated either time we went and the food didn't take too long to come out either. Great place to bring your family. I cant say enough nice things about Surf Rider North.

Had the cran cake and shrimp. It was great . Wife had the steak sandwich and we were sad to see that they had changed from a hogie roll to a brioche bun. It fell apart as she was trying to eat it. Would now be better as an open face sandwich rather than a hand held.

We love Surf Rider. They usually have great fresh fish offerings and offer a variety of ways to have it cooked. Only bad meal I've had was a month ago I got the fried flounder and it was a super skinny fish with very little meat. Not the usual quality and felt it shouldn't have even been served. For Rock Fish, you can't find a better deal. I almost always get two big meaty pieces and end up taking one home. They have great sides and we love their ranch dressing. It's pricey but for the food you get, it's one.od the better places around here for seafood. You are definitely not hungry when you leave

My oh my what has happened to this location??? Use to be my absolute favorite place to eat. Went there on 12/30/18 to bear the NYE rush. Service was good but Was very disappointed with food! Ordered bowl of She crab soup, had to send it back to be heated, luke warm upon return. Ordered fried flounder as main dish, wow usually get a piece that covers the plate, this one was not even the size of the lunch plate. VERY disappointed. Salad was excellent at least. Sure hope things are better if we decide to return.

Crystal was our serving tonight. Her smile just lite up the room. This was our first time here. She answered all of our questions and she was very very helpful. I seen her interact with other customers and she was amazing. Next time we come back we're going to bring more friends and family, so they could meet her because she was awesome. This trip was kind of a letdown. The food didn't seem as fresh as usual. Broiled seafood platter was tough, maybe overcooked or reheated? We were a party of five at around 5:00 on a Wednesday. It wasn't very busy when we arrived.

We enjoyed this restaurant very much. At the time we went they were busy but we were seated right away. The waitress was very friendly, attentive, and helpful when we asked questions about the menu. Sadly, I’m downgrading to 3 stars from 5. The last two times we have eaten there, we have been disappointed. A couple of months ago, I had to send my steak back because it was such a tough piece of meat, I couldn’t chew it. When we went Saturday night, our friend’s crab cakes were burnt and dry inside. Our daughter’s flounder was greasy and mushy. It actually made her sick after a few bites. She got it to go but when I was putting it in the fridge at home, I noticed it smelled fishy. Not in a good way. I threw it in the trash. My husband and I shared the seafood platter which was great but the coleslaw was too sweet to eat. I used to love their coleslaw. The French fries were not good either. They came out cold and undercooked. So nobody ate their fries. We have never complained about the prices because the food used to be good. But we wasted our money this past Saturday. Previous review from 2018: Latex free facility. A family favorite. Something for everyone. Some of us love seafood , some of us don’t but we all enjoy our meals st Surf Rider North, in the Cypress Point shopping Center. Plenty of seating for large parties, too. You see families celebrating graduations, birthdays and anniversaries. This is where my ladies’ club always votes (unanimously) to go for our holiday party. We love this location and it’s been here for many years so you know it’s good. Latex free facility.

Nothing amazing, the decor consists pretty much of a giant fake fish on the far wall, and a small bland clock which one may typically find located on the office wall in an accounting department. For the price, the amount of food feels unjust, but quantity should not be a deciding factor. My food, the Shrimp Tacos felt as uninspired as the decorator must have when designing the space. My shrimp tacos was made of a few shrimp, on top of a little coleslaw, inside of a soft shell which collapsed and made most of its contents spill out. Even a simple sauce intermixed with the shrimp and coleslaw would have added a great deal of actual flavor to the meal. I wrote this review not out of discust, but instead as a suggestion to stand out and achieve the potential I believe this restaurant has.

The food wasn't as good as we expected. They didn't get our car before we left to wait for our food so we were not notified when it was ready. I'd say both of our responsibility. But when we go our food back to the hotel in about 20 min the food was kinda soggy. Plus the hot sauce wasywhat we asked for which was texas pete and they gave us a very very small portion. But tonight we had a group of 10 coming with a relative who just graduated from the Virginia Beach Police Academy. We wanted to celebrate and the Surf Rider at Cypress Point made it possible, and a complete success. The seafood was excellent and the service superb.

Crabcake was very good, served in a metal dish so that it was still hot. I'll always measure by the now closed Surfrider West so by those standards, it was on the small side. Cole slaw was generous portion, nicely chopped, but too dry for me. Advised that french fries were seasoned, I passed on what I'd hoped were steak fries and had a lackluster baked potato served with a tube of sour cream. Great way to save on food costs. I didn't open it. The potato might have benefitted from it. Dessert at Surfrider West was always outstanding, and although we had as many choices, the blueberry pie was called average, and what was called key lime pie looked like a bright green pistachio pudding pie made with cool whip atop a graham cracker crust. It did not look like any key lime pie I'd ever seen. Thought I had the wrong order. Awful, but my companions ate it for me. Missed the lima beans with corn as a side. Salad looked good.if I go back, I'll have crabcake w salad. Brouled seafood platter also deemed average, scallops good, flounder soso, shrimp overcooked.
