My boyfriend and I came here a little over a week ago with some family and we had a great time our server was very nice, funny and helpful. The food was great and had pretty good portion sizes too especially for a bag of seafood. I got the bag of shrimp with corn and potatoes with the Cajun sauce and it was great. Very nice environment and atmosphere here would definitely come back again.

I wasn’t that impressed when I first walked in, but when we sat down and were served by very pleasant people and the place started to fill up I quickly understood the attraction. Our waitress, was a good conversationalist and was very helpful in making our afternoon date very pleasant. The food was great, especially the flavor soaked potatoes that this Irish man truly enjoyed.

Yummy yummy crabs, and good sized ones ! The writing on the wall was so cute i loved it. They put paper on all the tables, for covid safety? Avoiding people drawing on the table ? Idk but we got to scribble all over the paper and play tic tac toe and hang man and write notes to each other we loved it. (: they gave us a trash bucket, nut(crab)crackers, gloves, and bibs. The gloves were huge, i couldnt use them. The sweet tea was so good. Fries are kid and boyfriend approved. Our waitress was so awesome, i dont know her name but she said she started not too long ago. She was great. Clean bathrooms! Though I'm told the mens bathroom had lots of unsavory messages lol. My boyfriend is celiac, he had unbreaded Buffalo wings, didnt taste good and also gave him a bad flare up so that sucked. But we also failed to mention it to our waitress so not their fault really. Id reccomend going here for sure (:

Overall great place. I'm from Louisiana, so the bag style seafood isn't what I'm used to, but it's SO good! There's snow crab, dungeness, king crab, shrimp, scallops, mussels, oysters, all of it!! I always get the Shaking Sauce for my seasoning--and you can choose how spicy you want it. Service is usually pretty good, though as many times as I've been over the years, I don't think I've ever seen the same server. Decently priced--expect to spend about $40-$50 per person.

Had the boil bag and chose crab, shrimp, mussels. Came with potatoes, corn and sausage. It was good and seasoned just as ordered. The server was friendly, polite, attentive to practically ever detail and knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant is not fancy. It was comfortable and clean. Enjoyed this experience very much.

The food was scrumptious! We had fried shrimp and fried catfish and both were perfectly prepared, crispy breading and tender seafood inside. The atmosphere is very casual and the service is friendly. Happy to support a small local business.

Oh my gosh, we ordered carry out and took it home, put down a plastic tablecloth on the table and dug in! Absolutely the best flavoring, and super delicious. The shrimp was large and tender, the Alaskan crab legs were awesome! My only suggestion would be that they had more corn and potatoes since three of us were sharing and there wasn’t enough corn or potatoes to go around.

I love the food everytime I come here. The line/wait isn't like it used to be, very thankful for that. The customer service is always welcoming and accommodating. The staff is bubbly and talkative which i like also. The bathrooms though are always nasty.

All in all the food was extremely tasty! Actually being realistic the food had some serious flavor. My only complaint, food portion for the price! Other than that being my only complaint, I think food was great. We were seated quickly, our waitress was great, and the service was excellent. I definitely will be eating here again.

Can't go wrong with a seafood boil in a bag. The seafood was good and loved the choice of seasoning and spice level. Went on a evening that wasn't busy, so we didn't have to wait long which I hear is typical. The service was good and fast. Minimal drink menu, which was find for me because wine and corona was on the menu. Loved the option to write on the walls, made the look.

Had a great date night at the shaking crab. We went when it wasn't that busy but by the time we left there were a lot of people waiting to be seated. So I would suggest calling ahead or just getting there early. The food was delicious and came out quickly and was decently portioned. The food is a little pricey though but this is definitely a fun atmosphere and a place that I might come back to for a special occasion.

I enjoyed the food at The Shaking Crab a lot. The wait wasn’t too long. The portions were decent. The flavor was pretty good! I love that everything is served in to-go containers (unique for a sit down restaurant & convenient for messy seafood). Good service, too!

Without a doubt one of the BEST seafood places I've been to in Virginia! Don't let the long lines deter you because the food is DEFINITELY worth it! The variety of options on how to have your food seasoned is amazing and the friendly staff are great as well! The prices are a bit higher than I would have liked, but after trying it, worth every penny!

When we first went to Shaking Crab, the line was crazy long. We kind of gave up coz we refused to be the ladies waiting 3 hours just for some seafood. Well, we later got back when it was less busy, and all I can say is, I understand why there was such a long line. The food is awesome. I’m not a fan of seafood, but for that one day, I was converted. Anyways, I don’t think I will go back during busy hours, but I have to go back. I love the idea of writing on the wall too. Get ready to be entertained by some of the craziest stuff people have written on those walls just to make sure everyone knew they were there, and make sure you write your own mindless stuff too. Coz me and my friend shamelessly did.

This was by far the best restaurant made crab boil I have ever eaten. It had plenty of seasoning and was swimming in sauce :0 You get a lot of food for your money! I recommend the snow crab boil, and add some shrimp! :)

This is not a fine dining establishment. This is a low country crab boil with plates and sanitary measures in place. Ask for gloves. They will give you gloves. Design your bag of seafood. (Add a half pound of sausage, trust me.) Get corn. That corn in that sauce is as good as the seafood itself. Add potatoes too. Get Shakin Sauce. It's Cajun lemon pepper garlic goodness. I enjoyed hot but I've never ordered anything mild in my life. So stay in your lane, mild peeps. Hot turned a few of my family members into crybabies. Lol I was surprised. Now shake that thang! You are going to be full. You are going to take some home.

Spent my mother's day here with my family. We had a party of four that was told the wait would be an hour and twenty minutes. We waited, and were patient--because we knew that it was Mother's Day, and The Shaking Crab, like many other restaurants around the city, would be swamped. We were there when another party got irate about their wait time and the owner tried to speak with the gentleman, who didn't believe the owner WAS THE OWNER. He chose to leave, with a nasty attitude. To be honest, it didn't make a bit of difference. The food was awesome, and we got seated in 45 minutes instead of 1 hour and 25. We got popcorn, and had a wonderful experience. Thank you for a fun time Shaking Crab Restaurant, manager and staff.

Got a gift card to eat here. I always see their busy. My husband and I got inside and were feeling like we were in a shed with writing on everything. Took a while for waitress to come and then said she wasn’t our waitress but she was?? Finally got menu. She did help explain the menu she was nice. Food was tasty but snow crab leg look malnutrition. I had to ask for a tool to break the crab leg. Then nothing was in it. No meat. Okay maybe a crumb. The seat was too far from table and uncomfortable. I think I will stick with Hook n’ Reel.

My familiy and I heard about this place due to a local Virginia beach youtuber. And while on vacation we said f it let's try it out. Our weight tine was about 2 hours yes too long but it was worth it. The crab legs were amazing.

SooOoo delicious!! The Shaking crab is by far a really impressive seafood restaurant that caters to the Spicy cajun and unique way of cooking! I ordered a pound of Crawfish and Crab and I'll tell you what! Even though crawfish season just started these crawdaddies were tasty, plump, and tails were Yummm Delicious!! Will definitely be coming back for more and definitely going to be bringing as many friends as I can! Their decor and warm environment is really welcoming!

Had an amazing family dinner (for 12!) here with Yoni as our server. The whole experience was top notch, food and service. Yoni was hilarious and full of personality and we all had fun digging in to our fresh boil. Serving a large party can be a drag but Yoni kept it fun, remembering which kid ordered the extra piece of corn and supplying lots of handi wipes! Will 1000% be back. Service was king!

Quit different from a typical restaurant. The food was fresh, but there was something weird about getting covered in juice and seasoning while pulling shrimp from a plastic bag. Cheap napkins and paper cups add accent to the paper plates. Service was okay, but since they had plenty of servers for the customers, they could've been more attentive. We were not asked or offered refills on beverages. And, the fried rice is not "real" fried rice, like one expects. It was more like cooked rice thrown in a skillet with oil. All in all, it was an okay place to eat.

Good is great. One little quirk, where you order a boil with “potato and corn” as it reads on menu and receipt but the actual bag has with a piece of corn OR a small potato. Not a big deal but I have an inner fat boy that wants what it’s promised. ;)

Ok.. so we normally ordered the boiled seafood bags. I haven't been here in a while. While on this side shopping I decided let me oder here for lunch.I been going to The Twisted Crab! I will continue to go there after this. Today I ordered a catfish basket with boiled potatoes and a shrimp basket with corn. BEWARE!! They cut 1 piece of fish 4 times and call it catfish basket! Then you get 1 potato! No Sir or Ma'am! I paid $13.38 for this! I called them back and explained it said catfish not catfish tender. They were the size of small chicken tenders. The pictures I posted was a close up! The manger tried to explain it said catfish basket. I explained to hum yes, but you gave me catfish tenders/ spripes. He understood and give me my $ 13.38 back. I understand taking 1 pieces and cutting it up 2 times. The shrimps were fresh. But you only get 1 corn. I won't waste my money here again. Twisted Crab flavor, quality and quantity is much better.

You know a place is going to be good when it's packed at 9PM on a week night. That was my first impression when I walked in. I was not disappointed. Even though they were busy the service was great. The food was outstanding. The shrimp and crab legs were very fresh, excellent quality, and cooked perfectly. The fact that they were able to maintain such high standards when they were packed wall to wall, is very impressive.

Went here for a late lunch with a friend. Wait time is much longer than they first tell you as our 30min wait was nearly an hour. Staff is friendly and I like how they left you draw on the walls. The sea food itself was great and decently priced. My friend got the snow crab while I got muscles. I loved the seasonings they used and medium spice was just right for me. I do wish it was actually served on plates though instead of plastic bags. But I guess that's part of the charm. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because as great as the sea food was, the buffalo wings and fries were bland in comparison. So stick to the sea food when you eat here.

A friend took me once and I've been hooked ever since lol! The wait time varies on the time of day you go, so anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour. The food is AMAZING. I love to get the snow crab legs, hush puppies, etc. If you're a seafood connoisseur like myself, then this restaurant is the perfect place for you!

Wasn't overly impressed with the outside appearance of the establishment, but this maybe due covid19 restrictions. Service was decent, staff were pleasant and helpful. Food was excellent!! I was a bit disappointed with the fried, softshell crab basket though, very small crabs for price and only one side, which sides were also limited selections. But overall not bad for my first visit.

The sevice here was really good. I went on a Monday night so it was not crowded. The wait for 3 people was about 5 mins. The waitress was really patient and explained the menu really well. The food (crabs and shrimp) were tasty and warm. I would go again, of course its somewhat pricey but it's real crabs so that's expected.

Always a great place for a different kind of seafood experience. The food 98 percent of the time is hot and flavor is on point. Your service however can cause your experience to be less than great depending upon who you get. The prices are a little high but not too over the top. Try the shaking sauce with the medium spice it is very good.

First time having Cajun crab in the bag and gotta say pretty impressive. Not a huge sea food guy un less its fresh (I catch, gut, cook myself fresh.) And well I really enjoyed the flavor and the spicy taste. Ordered for pick up and it was ready fairly quick. The only thing was there was only one piece of corn which was a bit disappointing. I would still order from here again. Friendly staff at the restaurant so I would recommend this place for sure.

OMG! This was my first time here and I must say, I was impressed! The wait staff was friendly and professional and got our orders right away. The food was delicious! Seasoned just right. It is a little on the pricey side but well worth it. The only complaint that I have is that they only give you one piece of corn but like 4-5 potatoes. Please add more corn. Other then that no complaints here. Will definitely be back!

The food is great. I brought a friend who was new to Virginia and not so impressed with the other seafood places we have tasted within the last week. Upon arriving we were told the wait would be an hour. It was 45 mins. One couple told us they drove all the way from Richmond, VA which was approximately 2 hrs and another couple drive from Maryland which is about 3.5-4 hrs. We all agreed, hands down, it was worth it. The smell greeted you pleasantly in the parking lot. The boil was not filled with grease. The shaking crab sauce is a real Louisiana mix. I'd recommend this place.

My wife is obsessed with this place. Good soulful vibe and great good. She likes the shrimp with the heads on it with the shaking crab sauce. You can also buy the sauces separately if you are cooking at home. Great place and usually very busy, especially on weekends. Be prepared to wait long, but it's worth it.

Excellent food and table service! The food came out fast and was awesome. Go for potatoes as a side. The seasoning is mild, so if you like it spicy you will need to go extra here. My only complaint is the hostess. He gave all the waiting parties our numbers out of order and actually forgot about my wife and I.

The food is amazing. I got the crab legs and shrimp with the head which came with one corn on the cob and ONE measly potato in the bag. My flavor of choice was the garlic butter which is super delish. The prices to me are fair for a seafood spot. Their tea is a little on the sweet side but I still liked it. My only issue with this place is that I feel like it should be twice as big. Also, the long wait times. They should really invest in the buzzers to give to customers rather than just calling out numbers because if I'm going to be waiting that long, I don't like to have to stand in that tight area up front waiting for one of their very few seats in that area to be available.

Great portion for pricing. I called in my order and it was ready for pick up when I arrived. Place is a bit overrated but for the area it's worth it. My bag was hot and very seasoned. CON: Always packed there so the dine-in time is usually 35min-1hour wait. I would go back if it's call in order or if it's a down-time for them.

Holly cow this place is AWESOME!!! Great prices and exceptional food. Well at least the crab legs and shrimp sense that’s what we got this go around. Unique and present atmosphere. Our server Nick was a little slow but very nice and other than needing a little more urgency in his step was great. Wish we had one in Williamsburg or at least in the peninsula. Definitely going to to have to make this a regular stop. Oh. And try to hit this place in the off hours as we here it’s busy and at least an hour wait in the prime hours. We arrived at 1:30pm and got a table immediately though it was pretty full already.

The place was packed and people was waiting outside for seating and taking orders to go. I tried the fried tilapia basket. It was okay. Everyone else ordered crab legs with shrimp and enjoyed their meals except the sides were too small and they had to order extra potatoes. They said they would go back. Dont let the writing on the walls scare you away. The food is phenomenal. Service is always friendly. The shaking seasoning is amazing. Yes the menu only consists of crab and shrimp but what else would you expect from a place called shaking crab? Tacos? Nope.

We came in around 5pm on a friday. We were not greeted when we came in by the 2 men at the podium but was quickly seated. The shrimps are large and the crab legs are nice size. Our waitress was great!!! We ordered the shrimp and crab legs combo with sausage. They forgot our sausage but the waitress brought it to us however the food was good sausage was a little salty and the garlic butter sauce was very garlicky overall it was good but it's very pricey

Yummmmmmy! Man, I got half pound of crabs and shrimp with all seasonings and it was so good. The wait was a little long but it moved quickly! But I see why because the food is good. Just be prepared to wait! They give you a bib and gloves because it is real. The price for the atmosphere is a little pricey. About $80 for me and my husband but the food was great honestly.

Pack your patience...its growing popularity so the day we went(Sunday at 2pm) we had a 30 minute wait. Luckily, we stayed because the meal was well worth the wait. Hands down best snow crabs I have had in a long time!!

Everything was good, except the fried soft shell crab. It wasn't a long wait for a table or for the food. The sauce and hot level was just right. It can be a little pricey but it is fun and messy. When crowded it can get noisy. Bathrooms can be busy and not as clean. Tip: wear the bib so what if you look crazy. Kids loved it parents enjoyed it. We will come back.

Great food. But I think you'd better know what to order and be specific about what you want. Our first time there, the place was packed which was a good sign. So we ordered takeout. I was a little disappointed when we got home. There was no sauce for my oysters or melted butter for our steamed king crab legs. Other than that, no complaints. We will go back.

This place has the best seafood in a bag! We ordered the shrimp no head with shaking sauce 2lbs mild and 2lbs medium. The medium isn't too hot but has a little spicy kick to it, would definitely recommend medium over mild if you're into spicy but not to spicy you need to drink water after every bite. Also, the cajan fries are way better than the sweet potato. Enjoy!

I had the snow crabs and shrimp with no head, corn on the cobb and potatoes, with all the sauces, spiced mild. AMAZING! Definitely recommend this place. The waitress was attentive but not too much. I ordered a order of hush puppies. These yummy pieces of heaven were everything!Next I ordered a bag boil that consisted of snow crab legs, shrimp, potatoes and this yummy corn. Food good if you get it hot. If you do a take out make sure you continue to ask about it, once it's delivered to the front desk even though they give you a number to listen for, they don't use that number to let you know your food is up and ready to go. I only found out my food was ready when I got tried waiting. I ask why they can't keep the numbers straight from the people waiting to be seated and takeout orders. This is what I was told when I call them as soon as I left, them know what happened. So for me 4 stars is all I can give.

Visited on the weekend for the first time. I loved my food. I crushed my crabs. However, I don’t understand why only one potato would come in the bag. Seriously who only wants one potato with all the crabs. And my server was one of the worst I had. Server would go right past our table without checking on us. The food is seasoned just right and that Shakin Sauce was to die for!!! Already have future visits scheduled. If you're wondering about the price...I had headless shrimp and crab legs that includes potatoes and corn with a drink for $44.00. The portions are worth every penny. It was enough to the point that I had leftovers. Shakin Crab is where it's at for the Louisiana style boil.

When I got home I opened the bag to find one small potato I was very disappointed paid a lot of money to get one potato with my crab legs but that one potato was so delicious wish I had more of them but I’m sure I was supposed to get more than one .make sure you check your bag if you get a to go order cause they may be shorting you on your food .

Absolutely delicious! Husband and I went on a whim and are completely satisfied. We shared entrees to try a few things. Softshell crab basket with hush puppies, snow crab legs with shaking sauce mild and corn on the cob, and Cajun fries. First time trying softshell crab was tasty, the hush puppies have whole corn nibblets in them which I love but husband is not a fan. The sauce on the crab legs was really good! All of our food came out hot and the legs stayed warm in the bag until we ate them all, yummy 😋

I brought my whole family on March 30th cause I wanted them to experience the great food but it was extremely packed inside and it was going to be an 2hr wait but..... I will be back with my family cause they just gotta taste your delicious food. What I like the most is your Shaking Crab sauce!!!! I think I said it right. I love SPICY FOOD and this was so on point I didn't need no hot sauce no cocktail sauce or anything!!! The service was great too can't remember her name though but I will be back real SOON!

This seems to be a really popular spot; we stood in a line to get in. I am not a huge seafood lover so there was nothing really impressive about their food to me except the corn. I know...sounds silly for a seafood spot. Was a bit expensive for a Sunday lunch. For 2 people, I spent $60 and my daughter didn't order seafood. All in all, it was okay but it's not somewhere I think I would go back again unless someone suggested it.

I've been ordering to-go since the pandemic started. The quality of the food has not changed. Boil Bay does better with the quantity of corn and potatoes. They also allow you to order 1/2lbs for smaller eaters. Shaking Crab will get 5 stars if they could offer those things.

Really wanted to give a perfect 5 stars but there’s just one thing that really irks me. Food is amazing probably the best around the area but oh my goodness. 9/10 I try to call to place an order it goes straight to voicemail or it’ll just ring and no one will pick up. It’s a busy restaurant I get it but pick up orders are just as important for business. I think it upset me because when I came in to pick up my food I actually witnessed everyone sitting by the phone and just letting it ring. So yeah I would suggest a better system for that, otherwise everything else is great and their sauce is to die for UPDATE: since I've left that review, I noticed they have actually taken what I said into consideration and they are a lot better at picking up the phone now. Very professional!

I remember when this restaurant opened up a few years ago and thought about it in a negative manner due to the initial advertising of it. However I was pleasantly surprised with the seafood choices inside. I ordered a basket of calamari and it was absolutely divine! My only issue with this place is that some dishes are a little too greasy for greasy foods.

Went to get fried shrimp, but ended up getting a bucket of shrimp and crab instead. The staff said the sauces were "really spicy" but left me disappointed. I will say though, where it lacked in heat, it more than compensated with flavor. I highly recommend this place for families or gatherings. Good prices, good portions and good staff.

I was a real big fan at first but the past two times wasn’t worth my drive or 40 pier a person. I don’t know if it’s the pressure or what but the last two times food was not good. Most Shrimp was mushy and seemed over cooked. I don’t know if they cook a large amount now and redo them or what. But it use to seem so fresh coming out and eating not anymore. Maybe they need to slow down or don’t know if it’s a new cook or what. And also the sauce is not as thick as it use to be I get mild it puts heat in my mouth but I don’t get that good taste I use to.

When you are talking #Seafood in the Norfolk, Chesapeake, VA Beach area anyone who has been to #ShakingCrab is going to call it #Top5... The food, is always fresh, amazing taste, and the seasonings are out of this world. The Service, I have only ever had one below par experience but I believe that young lady was new because it want intentional she simply appeared to be learning and I just happen to get the #Rookie waitress. Now we talk about why 4 stars and not 5!!! The wait at this restaurant is #Real, they would have so many more usual customers if they allowed people to make reservations, I would say require they put 50$ down on the reservation as collateral to solve the issue but I digress... I have waited over two hours to eat here and that was on a Wednesday and that's just too much, the wait forced me to branch out and find other spots that are as good or almost as good with little to no wait and that's the deciding factor really... The food & service was good, but $36.00 for 2 crab clusters and a few shrimp is something I can do on my own for less. Or for $2 more, I can go to Cpt. George's and eat all I want. Again the food & service was good, but have to give four stars instead of five because in my opinion it can be pricey incomparison to the actual amount food given.

Only tiny negative was the bathroom, not the establishments fault, ladies... If you can keep a flood of water off your sink top at home you can as a visitor at someone else's place of business. It's ok. It's just basic seafood. Heard all the hype about the place but I was not impressed. Was told there would be a 90 minute wait at 8:45 on a Saturday night. Ended up only waiting about an hour. The menu is very limited, only 1 page. I guess they are famous for their seafood boil bags, which was decent. It cost $33. Again, just some crab legs and shrimp with potatoes and a couple pieces of corn. The seasoning was pretty good. I also had the fried shrimp and fries basket, which tasted like your normal run of the mill fried shrimp. Total bill for a seafood boil bag, fried shrimp and fries basket, side order of cajun rice, and 2 Modelo beers= $71.00. We went for the experience so did I didn't mind paying the bill.

Was expecting this place to be similar to Boiling crab or Crab Hut.....but the seasoning were not that great and they barely give you any juice in the bag to shake it up..... A bit disappointed in that aspect. They also only give you two small potatoes in your bag, that aren't even cut up. So weird. The sausage however, were DELICIOUS and made up for the lacking of other things. Like the sausage really changed my mood! WE also ordered fried chicken and the cajon fries. They were also good! Will probably go back, and request more juice in the bag PLUS the sausage.

GET READY TO WAIT. But it is worth it. The wait isn’t too bad since there’s seating and usually sports or I was lucky to have Martin (90’s sitcom) playing while I waited. I got my “bag” to go because there were a lot of people and parties waiting. 3 king crab claws, a corn or 2, a handful of shrimp in their signature Shaking Crab flavor will run you 50$ Seams like a lot (which it is) but it’s so good. Would go back with friends.

My first visit was actually a take out order due to my son being sick with the Flu at the time we planned to visit. We ordered from the ER at Sentara on Princess Anne and stopped to pick it up on the way home. It was very good! We had the shrimp and crab combo with the shaking sauce with potatoes and sausage. It is VERY pricey. We paid $90 for 2 combos. Never paid that much in my life for seafood however, it was a decent amount of food for the price. At that price I won't be a frequent visitor but it'll be a once in awhile treat.

The fried food tasted odd as in the grease need changing or there's a mixture of food bring utilized in the same cooking grease. I'd suggest ordering Snow Crab vs King Crab if you want more crab, but the taste was AMAZING!!! I loved it! Customer service was great, and the wait wasn't too long, but expect a wait because it is busy. The shrimp is also very good. Two people can eat at Captain George's for $88 including drinks. $44 you can eat all you want at Captain George's. $44 you get one bag with a few crab legs shrimp corn and potatoes. Tried this place on 4/26 with my family and we all enjoyed our boil bags. I had the crab legs with shrimp combo with "the shakin' sauce." The sauce was very good, I had a lot of shrimp, I had two crab clusters and they were full of meat, and we had all the utensils we needed to open our crab legs. I LOVE potatoes and corn on the cob, so I wish they would've put 2 extra of each in the bag without charging extra lol we will be eating here again!

We got a steamer bag, the flavor was wonderful the crab was great the shrimp however was a little mushy. Didn't like that there wasn't an appetizer menu and just odd that pop corn is their complimentary starter. Mixed feelings about this place but over all good, just won't be ordering the shrimp again.

The atmosphere is really friendly with the shack like feel that I appreciate. We switched from Joe's Crab shack to here. I also like that it's not super crowded and filled with tourists like seafood shacks by the oceanfront. We've been there twice and gotten combo B medium spicy with cajun seasoning the first time and the shakin seasoning the second time which is all of their seasonings. We also got potatoes and corn, but you can get one or the other. The crab was really sweet and steamed well. The shrimp was also perfectly steamed. Definitely a favorite. We loved writing on the walls and our waitresses have been great both times we've been. Keep it up guys!!

Great service, this place is kind of awesome. Food is seasoned perfectly, I will say be mindful when you order a pound of something make sure it is a pound. A pound of crab legs is generally 2 clusters of crab legs. I ordered a lb of crab legs and a pound of shrimp once. I got one cluster of crab legs and the pound of shrimp. Not too happy for $36 meal.

Sunday funday date night. Arrived around 6 and was told told that there was a 30-35 minute wait. No biggie, we left and came back around 20 minutes later and were seated soon after. This was our first time here and it was absolutely amazing. I had the shrimp and crab legs and my other half had the crab legs and crawfish. The popcorn in the beginning was a nice touch. But what sealed the deal was the shake sauce! Holy moly was that amazing! Not to mention the seafood was cooked perfectly. Thank you for a great night out, and I can promise we will be back.

After living in Orlando for several years and frequenting a city favorite deemed "King Cajun Crawfish" I was so excited to see a similar concept open up here. At KCC in Orlando, you could get a full tray of crawfish, shrimp, potatoes, crab legs, corn and sausage in their garlic butter "she-bang" sauce for 29 dollars. All of the seafood at that location was clearly fresh... this place, not so much. Everything is a-la-carte here. Although food was tasty, the shrimps and crab legs were very hard to peel (tall tale sign of being frozen). Our first visit was at noon on a Saturday. Second "attempt" to visit on a Saturday night we were told there was a 3 hour wait. Needless to say we left. I've never been anywhere where I have been told a wait would be so long. If this is something the restaurant sees frequently, then I suggest they start taking reservations on their busiest nights! We would love to try again once the hype dies down. Hopefully with fresher food too!

The crabs are large, seasoned well, and meaty. I cannot give 5 stars due to getting a small piece of corn and 2 very small potatoes for the price. In addition, the corn is always overcooked and mushy. Lastly, they may need a new phone system because they rarely answer the phone. I tried calling 10 times last night to place a to go order and was unable to get through. We ordered from Joe's Crab Shack instead and what a mistake that was...nothing compares to Shaking Crab!

This place was a recommendation from a friend and since it was my birthday I thought I would try it. For the most part the crab legs I ordered were delicious, and my friend enjoyed her clams. However, we were disappointed that we received one small red potatoe with our meal. I could see if it was a large potatoe, but we should have had 3 or 4 of those red potatoes as the pictures on your website show. In addition, there were no wet wipes provided. I know you have low overhead (paper cups, and table coverings), but we are eating seafood with our hands. They can't be that expensive. Lastly, if you pay with a credit card, make sure you get it back. We had to return to the restaurant because when the server brought the receipt back the card was not in the holder. It appeared that this is common since the host was shuffling through credit cards like a deck of cards. I may return, but I don't know if traveling from Portsmouth is really worth the trip.

There was an extremely long wait.. about 1:30 mins. I stayed bc my daughter and hubby wanted to try the food. In my opinion, the steamed menu prices do not match the atmosphere and the amount of food given. Popcorn is also not appropriate for a place within this price range. Hush puppies or corn bread would be more appropriate. Additionally, the shaky sauce is very geasy, it was not tasty to me and it took away from the flavor of the crab leg. Farm Fresh crab legs in Old Bay is better and for much less. Also, for the price you should be given corn, potatoes, and probably a choice of sausages in the bag. Not just a cob OR potatoes. Buffets have unlimited crablegs that are quality (they all come frozen from Alaska) so there is no reason they cant give corn AND a potatoe. Further, we had to order extra food because I knew a pound of crablegs would not be enough. The chicken was extra salty. Trust me, we are not strangers to salt but this was so salty we could barely eat them. On a postive note, the waitress was very pleasant and accommodating. Further, the oysters and hush puppies were truly devine. If I ever go back there, that is what I would order. The experience was pretty fun so I guess that is was you are paying for. Overall a C+ to B- in my opinion.

I have had the crawfish and shrimp from this place. Crawfish wasn't good at all, I'm used to Louisiana crawfish so nothing else will come close...the shrimp was decent. Every once in a while I just crave some yummy goodness salt, cajun spices and butter and this place does it for me! It's not cheap, but you do get a bag of large shrimp. I always opt in for the potatoes and corn too. Never had their sausage. They serve you popcorn while you wait for your food which I think is pretty neat.

It's what I expected kinda... The bagged seafood was good according to my daughter (seafood lover). I don't mind paying such an upcharge for crab legs and shrimp. However I got the fried tilapia...I was expecting 4 pieces of fish filets. It's four pieces of fish. Like one filet cut into 4s. The french fries are the bottom of the barrel kinda fries. My fav is crinkle cut then it goes down from there... The type of fries they serve are crispy but no potatoes inside. Fry lovers know what I mean. Then for each drink refill they give you a new paper cup, which I feel is kinda wasteful. It's an interesting atmosphere and a great social setting, it's worth a try!

I don't eat seafood often and normally when I do it's because someone is visiting me from out of town and they want to go. I suggest Crab Shack on the James (JRB) in Newport News, Rudee's on the Inlet in VB or Sunset Grille (Bayville) in Norfolk. Yea I said it!!! On this, my 3rd visit...no wait on a Tuesday around 2 p.m. I attempted the previous Saturday night around 7 and walked away after they said a wait of up to 2 and a 1/2 hours!! They DO NOT make reservations.

We came in on a Sunday afternoon and were quickly seated. Ordered combo with shrimp and crab legs, medium, with shakin seasoning. Also had a side of sausage. We asked the server what kind of sausage, and he confirmed that it was Andouille. Everything tasted great, except for the sausage. It tasted like plain ol’ Hilshire Farm smoked sausage. This is not a good place to take a date that you want to have good conversation with it is not going to work out well. It's the dacor is fascinating if you take the time to look around and see. Which you should have plenty of time as you wait to be seated. The servers are well-trained polite and respectful. And there is a distinct smell of old bag in the air. My boyfriend got one of their fish platter. We got the wings for my daughter. And I of course got the boil. With crab legs and shrimp without the head and extra potatoes and corn. Now I have been to Louisiana and the South. And I am from Florida. I think I am pretty well qualify. Not to mention my time and Caribbean. Their food is so good I thought I died. I have not had such good seafood in Virginia ever. I've been here for 7 years. I really thought I was back in Louisiana Mississippi. Everything that was on our table was just purely delicious. You might also want to be prepared to spend a boil bag is about $35. However for three people we spent just under 90 closer to 80. The only reason why they don't get a five-star is their portions. Maybe I am a fat girl at heart but I doubt it. We all left not quite full. Okay not really cool at all. We were left wanting more. I don't know if it's a marketing tactic but I don't like to be the deprived. Maybe they just want us to keep coming back for more. either way after trying to stray to other locations I will eventually come back always.

Reason being if you do chose to go with the shake'n crab bag meal it can be messy.. 2nd the space is limited, it's not an ordinary restaurant which seat/house a gang of people it's best to go as a couple vs goin with a party of 6 people 3rd - the food! Above average seafood, mostly popular for crab legs and shrimp, recommend getting the combos, be ready for it being very busy on the weekends, possible hour plus weight in the early and late evening time.

Visit for the first time had to wait for a hour but it was worth it a lil bit pricey but the food is really good. It’s a lil small I think they have out grown that spot time to expand it will cut the waiting time down meaning more $$ to collect your need to open one up in Newport News or Hampton

I have to say I do like shake and crab but the last time my daughter and I went in there for my birthday we ordered the bag with the crabs and potatoes and corn on the cob in it and we got so much less then it was if we were sitting in the place to eat who ordered out it was Unreal she tried calling her back if no respond

The Food excellent. But the bathrooms very poor. They should invest more in the bathrooms, the money they have, because food is expensive. A more decent and clean bathroom would be great.

Oh boy Im from Florida and we eat crabs 24/7 and those crabs taste just like home. They were season to perfection. I like the fact they give complementary popcorn.
