This place was very clean and the food was prepared in a timely manner. I ordered the shrimp and salmon pasta and a beef patty. Everything was delicious. The beef patty had a nice kick to it. Staff was very friendly. I would definitely come back.

The establishment was clean and the customer service was good. However, this was the nastiest carribean food I have ever tasted. All you could taste was garlic. The cabbage was too salty. This food has to be left over from yesterday. My husband's chicken was so hard. 2 lunch specials and drinks definitely were not worth $25.

Price of oxtails have gone up everywhere, so I’m not surprised they were $23.99! But if I’m craving them, ima get em. Been back in VA for a week and came across this place. Was not disappointed at all! Great flavor. Great portion size. Overall a great meal. Ordered through door dash, but plan on going inside within the next few weeks to try other items ☺️☺️

It’s soo good. I’ve been going here since before the pandemic and they have always had great food and great service. Danielle helped us today for lunch and as usual the food was on point. I even ordered a drink since it was my day off and the rum punch was perfect. I normally take pics of my food but didn’t today cuz I was starving but here’s a pick of my drink. I ordered curry chicken wit rice and peas and cabbage and my friend ordered fried chicken with greens and yams. Yummy 🤤

Ordered the Raggae Pasta with Jerk Chicken and it was absolutely delicious. The flavors blended perfectly together. Chicken was semi spicy but left my taste pallet fairly quickly to enjoy all the flavors again. Would definitely suggest trying.

Good service and food is presented nicely. Portion size of oxtails and rice for price is average and the taste is better than average. The chicken wings and cornbread were good, too. I haven't eaten at Montegos in over ten years so I was missing that old taste. I would come back again.

Let me start by saying this place is Simply Amazing! I have tried a couple different dishes here including the oxtail, curry goat, curry chicken and others. My favorite by far is definitely the oxtail. A lot of places I've been to the till Caribbean food are very skimpy on the meat when it comes to the oxtail and it's mostly bone but not here. This place has huge chunks of oxtail meat plenty of gravy all over the rice just the way I like it. Highly recommend this place if you're into Caribbean food prices are great you can either eat in or take out I usually take out because it's quite busy inside most nights but either way you go you can't go wrong.

We found this place was a short distance from my husband’s job. We decided to dine in. We both ordered the oxtails dinners. The food was delightfully delicious, the meat was very tender and the rice was amazing. Now to me the greens and cabbage had sugar in them; something my husband and I both weren’t use to, but enjoyed them anyway. As we were leaving; we bought 2 of the to- go alcohol drinks and 2 cakes! They were amazing as well.

This is my new favorite place stew chicken, rice and peas with cabbage was amazing. I have been here three days in a row. Jerk chicken delicious, curry chicken delicious, plantains mac and cheese delicious, collard greens delicious, fried chicken delicious, bbq wings delicious, jerk chicken sandwich delicious lol. They are consistent with the quality and quantity of food. If you want some amazing food this is the place to be.

First time, but certainly not my last. I was a skeptic when I first arrived because it took a while for service. The food and great customer service made up for the delay. I got the curry shrimp. The sauce was very spicy, just the way I like it. The waitress was superb, she played with my little one. My little one was in awe of the lamp at our table so I'm sure she'd give this place a great review too. We will definitely be back. It was clean, nicely lit, and the food was delicious.

My first time having ackee and salt fish was at this establishment. I enjoyed it, it was very flavorful. The Mac-n-cheese was really good as well. The staff is cool and attentive. Since my first time eating there I’ve returned 3 more times and plan on eating there everytime I am in town.

First time here and the food was excellent. We ordered curry chicken with rice and peas along with jerk chicken with cabbage and plantains. The cabbage was flavorful and the plantains were moist and cooked to perfection. The curry chicken was delicious and the gravy hit the spot. If we come back to the area, we definitely visit again. The bonus was the entertaining music

I came here to try the oxtails. They were not ready yet. So I tried the curry goat. My husband does not like to try things like this, but he did sample my plate. Ha. We loved our food. First visit, and surely not the last!!!

I never write reviews but after learning about this place while watching the Kev On Stage food review show and reading all the negative reviews for this place online I had to share my experience. Just left with my oxtails, Reggae Pasta, and Jerk chicken sandwich. The chicken was tender and juicy the oxtails were delicious best we've had in a restaurant so far, and Reggae Pasta was a tasty surprise especially for people who aren't fans of coconut at all. Would get all of these again and again. The service was wonderful. Very polite and only waited about 5 minutes for our pre-order and everything was scorching hot. Do yourself a favor and try this place!

I had a strong taste for Jamaican jerk and this was all I knew about in VB! Anyway, I have Jamerican in my family so not a newbie to the cuisine. I had the lunch: chicken more brown stew than jerk. Sauce too bland and none of that charred on the grill flavor that I’m used to. Fire! Anyway the plantains were perfectly prepared. The cabbage not so much, nicely seasoned but over cooked. But I’m not giving up. I’ll be back for the fish escoveitch and the peas and rice. That’s the real test😉 In their favor: pretty place, immaculately clean and great customer service. I like the menu, too, except for all those American additions. Where’s the coco bread?!

Food is great. I was introduced to this joint by a friend after I moved down to Virginia Beach from Newport News. I tried a few Caribbean places but this one got me hooked. Their customer service is also great. I just hope they would change their opening time which is currently 1200pm.

Montego, has become my favorite Carribean place to eat. I drive down from Richmond,VA to get the Red snapper(brown stew me please), Spicy beef patty, & a lemonade. What makes this place special is how I was treated. Danyelle has taken care of me several times, she is extremely professional and poised. I love great restaurants, and Montego grill is a huge asset to the Virginia Beach community.

Four stars for the ambiance and playlist. Three starts for the food. 🌟 🌟 🌟 I had the escoveith fish with cabbage, rice and peas and I don't know who the chef is, but they can't be a true yardy! The fish was as basic as it comes, the rice and peas was bland. The best part of the entire meal was the peppers on the fish and the cabbage. I've been to several other Caribbean restaurants in the Hampton Roads area and I'd recommend any of those before I recommend this location. I can connect you with my grandma for a true authentic Jamaican cooking lesson if you'd like.

The Oxtail was good served with rice and peas and plantains, but was cold andserved in styrofoam to go box. Order, pay and tip over the counter. Someone will drop off the food. On the way out throw your plate in the trash bin by the door. What exactly did I tip for. I think this place is confused whether they consider themselves a fast food place or a sit down restaurant. You order, pay and tip over the counter, then throw your stuff on the way out. That's what you do in fast food restaurants right? Except you don't tip. I could have gone to Golden coral and got my money's worth, lol. With halfway decent service.

I love their food. The full restaurant indoor seating isn't open, but they have tables you can eat at. I love the Stewed chicken and jerked chicken. The seasoning on their sides is spot on! Compared to the food we ate in Kings Bay Jamaica it was right in. Staff is friendly and welcoming.

Picked up a door dash order here and the customer service was great! There was a small event going on in a private room located in the restaurant definitely a great vibe in there however it didn’t stop the flow of things, Has a family feel to it which is great. It was VERY busy and typically is when I go so if you plan to eat here for lunch definitely place your delivery order in advance! The ladies there were working very hard and were very nice during my wait.

The people are amazing for one. The food go or Jamaican food on a scale of 1-10 is an 8. High on my list. I took another 3 orders to go back home to Delaware with me. I just don't know why these good Jamaican restaurant are hard to find. I'm from NYC and there are just a few re as ly authentic ones in NY.

Had Sunday brunch today... Curry chicken with yellow rice and cabbage was smack!! My man got the jerk wings (jerk sauce was FANTASTIC) with fried shrimp platter and that was on point!!The best fried shrimp either of us have ever had, and we're huge foodies!!!! I'm talking perfect batter, perfect crunch, just perfectly fried and flavored in every way imaginable!!! Period. Excellent food, friendly staff, and great ambience with low lighting!! Highly recommend this restaurant and I will be going back soon!!

Visited June 24th 2021 was hoping to go for my birthday the night after, but something in my instincts told me to check it out the day before. So me and my party of four arrive and the seating area is closed so we had to go to the take out side.. the ambiance of the take out side was not clean to me but I hadn't noticed until after I ordered our food and sat down to wait . I ordered jerk chicken cabbage and baked macaroni and cheese my husband ordered "reggae" pasta which your New York we refer to as Rasta pasta with jerk chicken. The floors were dirty there were three gum stains in front of me while we waited. The bar area/counter with the order was placed needs to be painted. We waited over 40 minutes for our food The jerk Chicken was wet and soggy and it had this watery sauce at the bottom of the plate. The macaroni and cheese was not good at all, the only thing I ate was my cabbage and the only reason why I ate it was because this was a takeout order and we had traveled a distance and I didn't want to go back and complain. My husband's reggae pasta was very salty, not a traditional Jamaican pasta dish just some noodles with sauce thrown on top and the jerk chicken had bones. I'm from New York and I am Caribbean and I've eaten a lot of Jamaican food jerk chicken rasta pasta has boneless thighs or chicken breast. I do not recommend this place. The food was not readily available and what they "threw" together was terrible. Don't waste your time

My parents love this place. The food is tasty and they do have a nice sit down restaurant. I’ve never actually eat in, but it is definitely worth a try. If you want to have a truly authentic meal make sure you add a traditional soda to you meal. They are always delicious and there are plenty of options.

Have curry goat that was tender and juicy; not quite as flavorful as before. Oxtails were still tasty. Still think they have the best curry goat in the area.

Every item I’ve tried on the menu is phenomenal ! The Greens! Mac& cheese, corn bread and their desserts are great. My personal favorite is between the curry chicken, escoveitch whiting fish, or the awesome drinks at happy hour for cheap. Great food for the soul 10/10 service as well. Very reasonable pricing.

I live in Chesapeake and we take the drive to Va Beach when we're in the mood for Caribbean food. Their portions are generous and the food is top notch. You're going to get nothing but an authentic meal from them, not a down graded commercial meal. Being from NY where authentic food is available on every other corner it's good to know there's at least one place to find quality.

The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly . I had the Jerk chicken sandwich and it was great! I also had their coconut shrimp and waffles dish which was not so good (tough waffles). Not everybody can pull off a good waffle , I didn't expect a waffle to be tough and chewy and it only came with 4 shrimp and it was a little overpriced at $12 a plate.

Kind of disappointed. I ordered the fried snapper it was pretty bland I ended having to add a lot of salt to get flavor. The service was not bad she was pretty attentive. The best part of my meal was the mac n cheese and plantains. I wasnt impressed by the very dense conch fritters I guess I was expecting more of a hushpuppy texture, it was super doughy and unpleasant.

Great food. Great atmosphere. Best Carribean food I have had in Hampton Roads. The staff is friendly and the music is always jamming. A classy establishment with just enough street style to make it a place that I would definitely recommend this place for a date night for either a husband or wife or for a guy who's trying make an impression. I had never eaten Caribbean food before this. King fish with chef sauce is amazing. The owner made sure to come over and explain that the chef sauce is soaked and marinated to really make the flavor and even warned that it was spicy. It was delicious! Prefect about of sweetness and spicy ness. I got the jerk chicken quarters with Mac and yellow rice and my boyfriend got the oxtail collards and Mac. Mac is delicious with just a hint of spice. Collard we’re best I’ve had but I appreciate that there’s no pork in them as that’s why I don’t usually prefer collards. Jerk sauce was best I’ve had as well. Now the ox tail, I’ve heard how good ox tail can be and boy was everyone right. Juicy tender and full of flavor. All in all, 10/10 would recommend every time. One of my new go tos.

I had the curry chicken with yellow rice and green beans. Everything was very good and reasonably priced . The server was very pleasant. The only thing that I think they need is a host to seat people. I saw a guest walk in and because they had no one at the front to greet and seat him, he waited a couple minutes and then walked out.

I ordered the Curry Shrimp, yellow rice, and cabbage. The cabbage was a little to sweet for me but my husband enjoyed his. I was disappointed with the size of the shrimp. I appreciated the fact they were deveined and peeled but they were very small like the size you would expect in salad. I've had curry shrimp from another jamaican restaurant and the shrimp used were jumbo shrimp. My husband ordered the oxtails, cabbage, and macaroni and cheese. He enjoyed it all.

Stopped in for a beef patty and chicken patty w/ cocoa bread. Patties and bread were on point. They forgot one of the cocoa breads and also gave me a beef patty when I asked for chicken. After the order was corrected upon re-entering the restaurant, they said we thought you would be back to get your cocoa bread. Customer service needs a little work.

I was driving by and saw a Caribbean restaurant and thought it's been a while since I've had good Caribbean food, so I stopped in. Immediately the ambiance was great. They had a DJ playing Neo Soul which was very nice and relaxing. The bartenders and staff are pretty were very friendly respectfully and interactive. Their drink suggestions were spot on. I got their jerk wings as an appetizer, they were smoked and spiced perfectly. As for my dinner, I order their fried snapper escavetch style. The snapper was a good size, perfectly fried and seasoned, the scotch bonnet flavor came through so clearly with the right amount of vinegar. I finished it off with a slice of carrot cake. I'd definitely eat here again and recommend if to others.

I love Montego's! The food is FANTASTIC, and truly traditional. I always get the curry chicken with white rice and Mac and cheese. I finally ate IN the restaurant the other day and the service was great too! Our service was Sophie (Sophia?) She was really nice and had good recommendations. Dessert: bread pudding all day! I ordered a small oxtail with two sides and ordered an additional side of plantains. A small comes with only 3 oxtails and large comes with 4 for $20. I wished for more but a little expensive. The bar is closed due to COVID but they had pre-made drinks. The green one is called Liquid Mariuana, 10 bucks but very good.

When you ask when their kitchen closes and your server replies " when we run out of food," that's a good sign you're getting the freshest ingredients. Food was delicious; jerk chicken with rice and peas, plantian and collards (out of callaloo but all the more reason to go back). Service was stellar! They never forgot to check in on us despite being busier than normal. Atmosphere was liveley and energetic. The live music made for a super fun evening. Can't wait to visit again.

This is my one and only stop for Oxtails and Caribbean food from the Island in Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach. The goat and beef curry is out of this world too (but my favorite will always be the oxtails). The staff is ALWAYS wonderful and the owner puts his heart into his buisness. They also have live music and D.J.'s from time to time. Check them out ASAP!!

We were looking for Caribbean food and found this gem 5 minutes away from our house. I ordered the Jerk chicken with collard greens and rice and beans. So delicious and flavorful with a good amount of spice! My boyfriend ordered the Curry chicken with green beans and rice and peas. Although the green beans look like they came from out of a can, they were sssooo flavorful! Whatever it was seasoned with made this side a must have! We ordered the spicy beef patties and they were just ok. Overall, we are definitely keeping this restaurant on our takeout list!

I ordered some curry goat, greens, and rice and peas. I found a piece of green that appeared to be molded so I posted it on fb....i also went back there because that was unacceptable. They did make me a fresh plate. But when I spoke to the owner he was a bit rude...they also block you on their fb page of you make a complaint. Instead of answering any questions. It kind of makes you look guilty. I ended up leaving the situation alone..although upset...i just decided to think the best and say it was vitiligo. My birthday is coming up to...i was going to have it here if the situation would of went better.

Hands down de best ox tails in this ya area. The soups are outstanding. The soups are definitely authentic West Indian style soups ( chicken foot, cow foot, chicken, chicken and red beans, and fish) with droppers (dumplings) and genuine West Indian flavor. I dine here at least 4 times weekly. I don't cook at home and consider Montego's my kitchen away from home. New York in the closest competition. Well authentic West Indian restaurants in NY.
