We have been here many times, going back to when this location first opened & we’d come here for Q105 events or for dinner with friends. The food has always been incredible. Tonight was an especially fantastic experience. Genesis was terrific. Brought drinks out quickly, as well as my clam chowder and a dish of lemons for my water. Our entrees were next, and as delicious as always. Husband loves his fried shrimp. I tried the crab cake appetizer. The crab cakes were better than expected, with a side of greens, tomatoes and mandarin oranges and a little honey mustard. Yummy! In the past I’ve enjoyed their grouper, snow crab, and coconut shrimp. All of it has been fantastic. I can’t believe I’ve not reviewed Shells before this! It’s epic!

Blackened Salmon Felix medium rare was PHENOMENAL. Some of the best salmon I've had out. Clam chowder is one of my favorite things, but whenever lobster bisque is on the menu, I try that. Well, our server (Fallon) let me try both and I actually got the chowder over the bisque this time. Lots of clam, VERY tender, and large pieces of FLAVORFUL bacon. Incredible. (But! I AM coming back for that bisque. Such a buttery flavor, it was pretty incredible too.) Fallon was extremely attentive, while not being overbearing which is tough to balance. And the calamari was fried to perfection. Everything was right. SO right. We'll be back.

The food was fantastic!! Came for a quick bite with s friend of mine and we were not disappointed! We also got some raw Oysters not pictured which were HUGE and tasted amazing. We were also just in time for happy hour drinks and the drinks were very tasty as well! I will definitely be returning next time I am in the area

We had a fantastic experience at Shells seafood. The host (Greg I believe) was joyful and pleasant. The service from Sam was top notch, and the whole atmosphere was very welcoming. It was also the best seafood we had all trip. This diner is a must when in Tampa. We will be back.

I really wanted seafood (specifically raw oysters) when I was in Tampa recently and found this place on Yelp with good reviews. The menu had so many tempting choices but I finally settled on the baby lobster pasta (as well as the oysters) and I’m so glad I did. It was so flavorful without being heavy like many creamy pastas tend to be. I pleasantly surprised by the amount of lobster they included in the dish. I expected them to skimp like most places but there was way more than expected and it balanced out the pasta really well. The oysters were fresh and enjoyable too. My daughter had the shrimp pasta which seems to be what they’re famous for. I expected it to be just another shrimp scampi type dish but it was also beyond our expectations. You can’t go wrong with either dish. Our waitress Trinity was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. I’ll definitely go back the next time I’m in Tampa. The restaurant ranks in my top three for lifetime great meals

Food was on point. I asked for a dozen oysters, half raw and half lightly steamed. They did exactly as asked on the lightly steamed. Usually when you ask for it to be lightly steamed, they cook it all the way. The clam chowder was the highlight and the best I have ever had. The cioppino was delicious, but was missing something. I think a little vermouth would have put it over the top. Service was average that's why I gave the 4 stars. I had to keep asking for stuff or wait until he came back out of the kitchen to be noticed.

I always try to make a point to stop at Shells Seafood when flying in or out of Tampa. I know I should be going to sandwich shops and getting Cubans and whatnot, but Shells is just too good to pass up. Lots of fresh seafood and a ton of pasta dishes to choose from. These dishes are perfectly paired with a cup of creamy, homemade clam chowder. The service is top=notch, and the employees work in perfect synchrony. If our server was ever busy, another server, busser, or even manager would check in on us and clear plates or ask if we wanted refills. Great experience from top to bottom.

While visiting, I wanted to try new food spots out here in Tampa. The service was quick, and our waitress, Linda, was a pleasure to have. She held friendly conversation, paid great attention to our needs, and made sure that the tea was sweet to our liking. I ordered the Baby Lobster Pasta, and it was DELICIOUS. It was freshly cooked, and looked just as it appears in online photos. I would definitely eat here again, if I come back to visit the area.

We came after reading a review talking about Juan's service. Everything was on point! Waited less than 5 min for a large group and Juan ended up being our server when we got seated. Service exceeded expectations and the food was extraordinary. We were so impressed, well done!

No frills, just great seafood dishes, particularly the fresh fish. You've got to start with their famous clam chowder, which does not skimp on the clam meat and is very rich. The shrimp and crab dip also was a nice blend of flavors, not overly fishy. You'll definitely have a tough time choosing between the dinner options, but you can't beat a fresh fish either fried, grilled, or blackened and their noodles with house sauce is better than what I imagined. Bradley was a very patient and helpful server and answered all the questions we had around options and substitutions. Prices are very fair considering the quality and the restaurant is fully accessible and spacious.

Went to Shells for the first time in YEARS. We were really excited. My mom ordered the wrong pasta and didn’t realize it until it got to the table. The manager came over and was insisting on changing it out for something she liked. I was impressed by (what seemed like) the great customer service. My mom kept saying that it wasn’t a problem and that she made the mistake - but the manager was insisting that she doesn’t sit there with food she didn’t like and offered to get us the other pasta, if she wanted it. My mom said no, but I said “yes, she’ll take it” because I knew she really didn’t Iike nor want the other pasta. The manager smiled and thanked me for advocating for her. They brought the other pasta. At the end of our meal, they brought us the check where they charged us for BOTH pastas. Just super disappointed and felt very misled by management. I was hoping to leave a review about how they went above and beyond to serve and satisfy their customer - but we left feeling confused and honestly a tad manipulated. I enjoyed the food, overall, but the experience of tonight is one that I wouldn’t want to have again.

Had blackened salmon with seasoned rice. Excellent! My friend had scallop pasta.She loved it. I finished with the key lime pie. Excellent! Server named “Sierra “ was very attentive.All staff very friendly. Salads served in chilled bowls. Classy. Pie also served on chilled plate. Little things…but extra touch very appreciated. Highly recommend this place.

Shells will always be shells an amazing seafood restaurant with amazing prices and the best clam chowder hands-down. My fried seafood platter was on point as far as flavoring and consistency. The price point was great too for the amount of food you got. If you go to shell seafood I do recommend getting the clam chowder because it is loaded with clams and is so delicious and yummy it’s a clam chowder that you will remember forever.

FOOD is always great. The shrimp pasta is soooo good as well as the baby lobster pasta. They added a mussel dish which is tasty and very generous in their portion! The oysters were fresh and tasty as usual. We tried a cocktail and got The strawberry lime mojito -- it was extremely light on the alcohol. Sort of tasted like it was a strawberry mint limeade. For the price of 8.50 just stick with a wine or beer instead. The service can be a bit slow sometimes on the weekend. We didnt get checked on not even once during our meal unfortunately but it tasted good so it wasnt a really big problem, but was was a problem was that we had to wait almost 20 minutes for our check. Excellent food, bur sub par service tonight. Let us get out of your hair when we are done so you can fill our seats with more patrons on busy nights!

Very friendly staff! Kaitlin, our waitress, rocked & Sarah, the manager, were a force to be reckoned with! They provided excellent hospitality, the food & appetizer came out hot, fresh & in a timely fashion! The entire staff came out cleaned/ disinfect the available booths/tables & swept! They thinned out (changed) the sauce for the seafood pasta and it's not as good. Very disappointing. This used to be we're my family and I go about 3 times a month. Not anymore. The soup and side salad is still the bomb tho....maybe we'll still go just to get that. Change the sauce back!!!!!!! Don't go cheap on us!!!

This location is it! While there are waits (up to 45 min) at other locations, this one always seems to be able to seat you immediately or in a very short wait. Staff is friendly and courteous...not constantly pushing us so they can turn the table. Food was very tasty. It's the perfect place to go!

I am not easy to please at restaurants but the food here really impressed me. I had the salmon Felix with their parsley potato and Cole slaw. Everything tasted fresh. (The Salmon Felix is VERY rich, caloric and filling but you can order just regular salmon if youre worried about that ♡) I also tried the chocolate cake. Illegally divine. I'm actually blown away, it does not seem like this joint skimps at all on their ingredients. I'm really glad I came to try it and it was worth what I paid.

They offer small or large portions of the fresh seafood, so if you order an appetizer I recommend going with the smaller portion. We ordered the shrimp and crab dip, 6oz blackened grouper, and fried shrimp. The dip was amazing, the best I have ever had! Big lumps of shrimp and plenty of crab! The 6oz grouper was more than enough, it was too salty and the rice was on the firm side. The fried shrimp were prepared with bread crumbs, I prefer a light batter or light flour but they were fresh. The tartar sauce was bland. The boiled red potatoes with butter and parsley was excellent! The mango slaw provided a nice acidic clearing of the palette.

Great food and hospitality. I stopped by on a Friday evening which was reasonably busy. I tried out the clam chowder and jambalaya. The chowder was amazing and I enjoyed it immensely. The jambalaya wasn't too bad either. The staff took good care of finding me a seat quickly and getting the food on the table fast. Definitely will return!

Found through Google with the highest eating and I wasn't disappointed. It's a quaint restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. The servers are all happy and friendly the second you walk in the door and throughout your visit. The food was fresh and delicious. I had the grilled ultimate combo with coleslaw and steamed veggies. Tender tasty and good portion. I want to that Taylor for a great experience and the recommendations she provided. Just an update I came back the next day and tried the Big Easy with a cup of clam chowder. I great finish to a great trip in Tampa

A phenomenal meal! I had the Mahi Mahi and Shrimp Skewers, I can even describe the unique flavor and there was so much, I couldn't eat it all! My husband had the clam chowder (delicious!) A and the Jambalaya ( also delicious!), he said if we lived in Tampa Shell's would be a favorite, repetitive haunt! Finally, we took home a slice of key lime pie and Crystal, you were right, it was awesome!

The waitress messed up our order so for one of our plates we got baby lobster pasta. We still ate it and it was not really that good. However, the shrimp pasta was delicious and the calamari rings.

Pretty nice seafood restaurant, I couldnt go in, it wasonly takeout and delivery due to covid. But overall a good deal with a generous portion of food. I really liked the coleslaw, it had mandarin oranges in it. I’ll have to try some else next time I visit.

Shells is approximately a 4 hour round trip for us, but well worth it! We had a cheesey seafood w/tortilla chips for appetizer. Very delicious and more than enough for two. We both had the Baby Lobster & Pasta. Excellent! Loaded with lobster, and the sauce is suburb. The young lady who took waited on us was excellent. She was personable, very easy to talk to and professional. She made us feel like we were the most important guests she had though I'm sure everyone she serves feels the same. A gentleman came to make sure all was good as well. Not sure if he was the chef or manager, either way, this location is staffed with knowledgeable, friendly & professional people who make the customer's and the food top priority. From the time we walked in, to the time we left, we felt like we were the most important guest's Shells restaurant has ever served. Absolutely loved our dining experience and can't wait for another 'road trip' to Shells!

Wow, I hadn't been here in years. It used to be almost a weekly thing to eat here with my parents as both a kid and a young adult. It was a favorite place to eat. My husband suggested Shell's and we both talked about how long it's been since we had eaten there. The service was fast and friendly and the food was AWESOME! There was four of us and we all enjoyed our food immensely. Everything was loaded with flavor and the portions were more than enough. We all walked out with takeout boxes. Looking forward to coming back and enjoying more great food.

From the looks of it you’d expect just a typical seafood spot, don’t judge a book by its cover! The reviews are all honest, amazingly friendly staff, quality sea food and quick service. Had the mahi mahi, my buddy had the grouper.. extremely fresh and not over cooked. Fair pricing too! Try the fish board selection, won’t be disappointed serving size x quality

I was in around 5:30 on a Monday and the first impression was great. The hostess as well as the two employees at the counter greeted me as I was checking out the salt water fish tank just inside the door. I was seated and within seconds Josie was over to greet me and take my drink order and my apprised of the clam chowder. The chowder is a house special and it tastes special! The hint of bacon goes well with the traditional dish. The main course of grilled skewered sheep I ordered was out just as I was taking the last bite of soup. The rice bed was cooked but not over cooked and most importantly fresh tasting. The vegetable side was cooked with some spices to make them delicious. The shrimp themselves were amazingly cooked with a great hint of BBQ but not overwhelming on the three loaded skewers. Josie did a well taking care of me during my visit. The only down fall was that there was so much food I didn't have room for dessert. Coming from Iowa I was looking for a local spot that served fresh seafood and I found the spot. Next time I'm in Iowa I'll be at Shell's!

Blackened Grouper platter with seasoned rice and mixed vegetables. Make sure you add the “Big Easy” sauce to your fish, it is amazing! I came around lunch time and it was pretty busy. Nonetheless, it came out fast. The staff were really friendly and helpful. I can’t remember name of the guy that took care of me at the bar but he recommended my lunch. Awesome suggestion!

Great fish and scallops, awesome and friendly service! Their fried mushrooms are really tasty. They serve off of their lunch and dinner menus all day, which makes ordering the portions you want super easy. If you don't eat fish, their grilled chicken is really great too.

First I will start with the staff who were really good. This is only my second time going to Shell's and I can say some of the food was great like my fried mushrooms were really good and my buffalo shrimp were good although they weren't really buffalo. My steak I asked for medium and it came out well done my asparagus was over cooked as well and the parsley potatoes were just barely ok no flavor. I don't like sending food back so I made it work. The drinks were really good overall not a bad experience not the best either. The wait staff was the highlight of the night they were very attentive, pleasant and always smiled. Thank you wait staff for all that you do keep up the great work.

Great portion sizes, customer service, and the best clam chowder I've ever had since traveling all over the country. You get a lot for what you pay for, so if you have a small appetite, it's best to share a plate. Glad my family recommended this place!

My family and I had dinner here earlier today and really enjoyed our experience here. We ordered 2 lbs. of snow crab legs which were perfectly prepared. In addition, we ordered a fried seafood platter which was great. It was plenty of food for a family of three who were eating and ample to take to the hotel. I am not a fan of cole slaw but you have to try it here in which it is prepared with mandarine orange. The prices are quite reasonable.

I've been dining at Shells Seafood Restaurant since before Al Gore invented the internet. This meal was as good as the first and every one in between. All these years and all these means, once never been disappointed. The shrimp scampi is fantastic! I'd recommend to anyone that would listen.

Great experience at a classic Florida restaurant. There used to be a lot more shells but now there are only a few so whenever we go to Tampa we try to stop at this one. They are famous for their shrimp pasta it is definitely a must try. They also always have good fresh snow crab legs that are available at market price. They have a full bar for mixed drinks and often have cheap drink specials. The overall price is very affordable and you can have a full meal with cocktail for less than 20 bucks. The service was exceptional and I wish I could remember the waitresses name they made our experience such a pleasure. We would definitely come back to this location the next time we are in Tampa.

Our 1st stop for my husband and I visiting the Tampa area. The sign outside says we're not pretty but we can cook. Well they're not "pretty" in fancy way but it has a cute mom and pop feel which is what we love. We were seated right away, service was great. We ordered the shrimp pasta (that made them famous) and the chicken pasta. It was good and simple. Hit the spot for just getting off the plane and didnt break our wallet. I would be conscious coming here on a first date though, the garlic can be overpowering.

I love baby lobster pasta and was in the Tampa area and able to enjoy it. My husband and I loved going to Shells when we first moved to Florida but sadly they closed the one in the Orlando area. We would like to come back to Tampa just to eat at Shells. Our service was great too.

Met friends here for dinner. Nice place, fast friendly service. They all had seafood dishes and I had the blackened chicken alfredo. It was good, but not really anything to rave about. The noodles were sticky, the chicken and alfredo kind of bland. Didn't taste much flavor on the chicken. They all enjoyed their meals so I'll do the 4 stars for overall experience and food. I personally wouldn't make a trip to eat there, but they would disagree with me.

We had a big party 20+ people, called well ahead, and still had to wait almost an hour to be seated. The coconut shrimp were great and so was the Strawberry Margarita. We celebrated a birthday here and brought our own cake.

Funny how one day I was just driving with a stomach yelling at me to eat, I had been craving seafood all month. Heading north on dale maebry it took 2 seconds to pull in, park and sit down. They have an amazing atmosphere and a long menu thatll have your mouth watering reading it. I will say this was some of the best “casual” seafood ive had! Tampa doesnt have many casual seafood joints and if ranked this one would be on top. I have come back here numerous times and have yet to experience nothing but great service, tastey food, and an amazing atmosphere. This place you could say is a hidden gem, if you are in thw area, take a quick trip over if you want to fill up on authentic seafood thatll turn you into a lifetime customer like myself!

Went with my girls this past weekend and had really high hopes for the food . It was all just an ok experience and didn't meet my expectations . The fish tasted bland (not fresh) the shrimp was good I liked it , the veggies tasted like it came straight from a can (not fresh )and the broccoli was ok. Oysters weren't anything special either . I did taste from my friends plate though and the salmon was good.. I guess it depends what you get from here . Probably wouldn't go back ..

Clearly not close to a 5 star restaurant but priced reasonably for what you get. Really I would give it between 3 and 4 stars, but I rounded up. Pros- Service excellent. Food came out quickly and was hot. Price. Cons: Food taste I got the seafood platter which included fried fish, fried bay scallops, and fried shrimp. The fried fish had a bad taste to it - like almost enough to ruin the rest of the plate. The bay scallops were the best thing there with a nice sweet taste. Fried shrimp were tasteless and looked/ tasted like they might have been bought pre-breaded. Cocktail sauce had too much lemon and otherwise had no taste. I thought it actually made the minimally seasoned fried food taste worse. Cole slaw was a positive with a unique sweet taste. Portion size was excellent for the cost of the meal.

Extremely satisfying! I have recently had many bad experiences with restaurants and quality of food. Shells has knocked it out of the park my last 2 visits. Excellent food quality and nice portions. The Felix topping is to die for and some of the best crab cakes I've ever had. Fish was fresh and so delicious. Shrimp and crab dip amazing as well. Will definitely be a loyal customer!

Don't judge a book by its cover. Looks like a small "diner" type place with pre-made/ frozen food, but was I wrong. Sure, the Coconut Shrimp was pre-packaged. But the Baby Lobster and Pasta had a homemade lobster sauce, and it was wonderful. My wife had the Salmon Felix (blackened), and absolutely loved it. Crab Legs were average, and my son's Chicken Tender Kids Meal was what you expect. I do recommend Shells, and don't judge until you've eaten there.

Wonderful experience My husband and I stopped here after looking all day for a seafood restaurant while visiting Tampa .I got the snow crab legs and he got the chicken sausage and shrimp jambalaya and not only did we get big portions for our money but the food was excellent prepared. Our waitress which I believe her name was Dora was excellent also we never waited or had to ask for anything. And the price was reasonable also!! So if your in Tampa go visit shells seafood you will not be disappointed!! Oh and the bathrooms were very clean also!!

Tried Shells Seafood for the first time on 6/11/21 and everything was great! Myself, my husband and son ordered tons of food! Clam chowder (2 servings because after the first we HAD to have more), steamed mussels, grilled Salmon Felix, crab cakes (appetizer and an entree), U-Peel shrimp, Seafood Siciliano, sweet tea, lemonade, and beer. We had zero complaints about the food! Our server (Juan) was awesome and great at his job! We almost ate here two nights in a row, but will definitely be the first stop each time we visit Tampa! Last time I went to Shells was over 30 years ago. The food is just as good today as it was then. Had the jumbo lump crab cakes for appetizer! Delicious! Ordered the fried shrimp basket with potatoes and slaw. SO GOOD! Then ordered the chocolate cake for dessert. Fantastic! The food is just as good as I remembered. The highlight of our nostalgia trip to Florida! I cannot recommend Shells enough! 10 stars!

We love shells. But our recent visit was all but pleasant. I guess there's a new waitress and let's just say ,she was not experienced . She was very slow , she put her finger in my bowl of claim chowder, which I told her to take it off my check ,because I did not eat . We asked her to separate our checks which she did not do and we didn't get into with her because we didn't want to wait another 20 minutes to get the check. Our coronas were warm ,our food sat for a while before we got it . So I'm not going to not go back because, it was obviously not the restuarant, bit the lack of experience from a waitress who definitely needs more training.

Service and cleanness was good. Food was moderate and inaccurate according to menu. Shrimp are value undersized. Sliced cherry tomatoes are not what the menu says (sun dried) huge difference. I can go on about the food being subpar caramelized onions were raw, pasta sauce soupy. Swear they used the chowder as a base. Etc. Needs major improvement for the price that is charged.

Stuck at the Tampa airport for a mid-week overnight. Thought seafood, the concierge recommended Shells...no water view but excellent seafood with parking in back. Decor a little 'hokie-diner'... get past that! Hostess and our server, Taylor were charming, welcoming and entertaining. Recommended a Reef IPA ... delicious, as was the Sancerre. The food ... Shrimp and scollops, Mussels and PEI oysters still had that delicious ocean taste. ... fresh and not overcooked. The mussels in particular were cooked perfectly ... pasta dishes are excellent with good portions of shrimp and scollops. And just at the right moment, Taylor returned with another Sancerre. The staff, servers and management were totally in sync ... a well run ship of 30+ years. Worth going to Tampa just for the meal. Yum.

Oh my gawd !!! I’m visiting Tampa FL. for the first time in my life and this place is the best ! What an underwhelming experience. The oysters are huge and delicious, but the entrees were so disappointing after reading these reviews. I had the crab cake dinner and was not prepared for the shredded carrot array that was the "mixed veggies" side. The rice was also undercooked and dry. My friend ordered one of the pasta dishes and also was not satisfied. Unless you are desperate for a sugar rush, don't order the house marg. It's not worth the $5 happy hour deal--too artificial and not enjoyable. Service is great, atmosphere is casual and comparable to an Applebee's, and there is a good amount of parking. I'd recommend for the oysters and the draft beer, but nothing else. Sorry!

This place is a hidden gem. It's nothing fancy on the outside, but don't worry, your wallet and belly will be pleasantly surprised. The shrimp and crab dip is so flavorful and the chips served with it were warm and crisp. All 3 of our kids meals came with yogurt, a drink and teddy Graham crackers for only 6.50 each! The shrimp linguini is so filling and even though I tried to pace myself and not eat all of it, I failed. My husband got the crab cakes that were made from lump crab. SO GOOD. If you're from out of town or just looking for a new affordable favorite, check this place out.

This place was awesome! Very fair in pricing, happy hour well drinks were $4! Coming from New York that's pretty good. We stopped here before going to the airport, I had a shrimp and pasta dish and the conch croquettes. Everyone else got the crab and I was jealous! Sorry to do it but unfortunately, we felt Shell's was a disappointment. A friend strongly suggested Shell's in St Pete but since this was so close to our Airbnb we went here instead. I'll start by saying the service was friendly and fast but it was downhill from there. Server highly recommended the calamari, stating it were seasoned with lemon pepper. The calamari itself was tender but fairly bland and as for the breading, it was like the kitchen forgot all seasons, salt, pepper and not a hint of lemon pepper. I had crab cake dinner and my wife had the friend shrimp dinner. Crab Cakes were a step in the right direction. Flavor was good but it was hard to find any significant chunks of crab but certainly more flavorful than the appetizer. The shrimp was no better than the appetizer. Breading was lacking flavor and the shrimp were lacking the sweet and briney flavor we're used to. Found it strange that the calamari breading was light and crisp, the shrimp was clearly cooked in another fryer and suffered from oil not being hot enough. While not entirely soggy, it wasn't nearly as crisp as the calamari and usually it takes a bit before they cool off enough to eat but as fast as our food came out I would suspect it wasn't fried just for her. Hoping it was just an off night for the kitchen but we would suggest you find another spot for your seafood dinner. Service out front - 4 stars Food - 2 stars

The conch fritters and buffalo shrimp appetizers are excellent too. My wife orders the fried oysters and they give you a generous amount & more than she can eat so I have some too. The margaritas are very good & for $3.50 hard to beat!

I love the chowder, Salmon Felix and Lobster . The customer service is excellent. I was most impressed with the manger he was making sure that he double checked every order before it was served and he went to each table and thanked them for coming in. The restaurant was clean and there was not a long wait time on our food after we ordered. My food was fresh and cooked to perfection. The drinks are were not expensive nor did they did not taste watered down........I had to update my review. I have not been to Shells in a couple of months and I must say that I did not think it could get any better. Our server Jeff was the best we never had to ask him for anything. Nor did we have to wait on service. He had the best customer service. Andrew the manager made us feel as if we at a five star restaurant. This is my number restaurant to eat.

We LOVE SHELLS! Always have good fresh seafood. Pre-COVID, our regular was at the bar on lobster night - 'eating in' and 'lobster night' Tuesdays both became a thing of the past... Now you can get it any day. Their Jambalaya has become our family gathering go to, to go! They're great about giving their dishes your requested tweaks, extra shrimp, extra sauce, blackened... Arrived 55 min. before they closed on a Saturday night with a party of 8. The food was quick and our waiter and the staff were very friendly and was not rushing us to hurry up. Recommend this restaurant. Way to go Shells staff. It's not often you find a restaurant with hospitality.

I visit Florida once a year every year. I always have a great time, and find places that serve amazing seafood. The restaurant itself is kind of crowded, and the acoustics aren't the greatest. The service is wonderful, and the waitress we had was so nice. The owner even came over to make sure we were enjoying our time. It is a little pricey but anyplace that serves seafood will be, especially good seafood! This place serves the very BEST crab cakes I've ever had! I've had a lot of crab cakes, but these were by far more superb then any others I've ever had, and have had since! I can't wait to go back next year!

We had a great dinner experience at Shells while visiting from out of town. Betsy was our server and was very attentive. She has been working there for a while and helped us make our meal choices. Upon arriving we were greeted with a smile and quickly showed to a seat. I love the sign located at the hostess station " Director of First Impression" I think they did an excellent job delivering on first impression. On Yelp they offer a check in offer and provided a free house margarita which was delicious. Our server Fallon was bubbly and pleasant. The customer service was great. I recommend trying the clam chowder. And we sampled many things from the menu from Market Price Snow Crab to chocolate cake was great. My favorite part of the meal was the parsley potatoes. They are boiled red potatoes served with Parsley in a boat of melted butter. They melt in your mouth. We enjoyed the dinner very much.

Great food! The calamari was excellent & the marinara dipping sauce was almost as good as mom's! Also ordered the Shrimp Diablo which had just enough spice & the shrimp were cooked perfect and the Shrimp Pasta was as always, never a disappointment ! They have very good seafood. Price is very reasonable. Enjoyed the clam chowder, crab cakes, shrimp and oysters. All tasted very good. The ”smoked fish spread” appetizer was so so, no smoky flavor. My family and I dined at Shells during our vacation in Tampa Bay. This was our first time visiting this beautiful city so we wanted to start it off with a good seafood dinner. Drew is the manager of this fine establishment and I must say that we were very pleased with the superb customer service we received from him and his staff from the time we walked in the door. Our waitress was the greatest. We loved the large variety of choices on the menu and the food was deeeeelicious. Kudos to the chef! The prices are very reasonable. You get much more than what you pay for so tip the waitress well! My wife topped it off with a desert of key lime pie that made her eyes roll back into her head!!! Thank you Drew and team for making us feel right at home with some good ole fashioned hospitality! We will be back....

I had been to the Shells restaurant in St Pete beach, and it was a sublime experience. Went to the south Tampa location and was somehow even more impressed with the quality of food, friendly service, and very reasonable pricing. I had the shrimp and scallops pasta last time and the shrimp mezzo mezzo, both were superb! My boyfriend ate the "big easy" last time and had the shrimp Diablo this time; both were done very well but I believe the big easy was the superior dish. Overall, no frills dining with welcoming, attentive staff, best seafood prices in the bay area, and amazing attention to detail in executing every dish. Will definitely be listing this one as a regular I'm sure to revisit in the future!

I was in town for the night and craved seafood so I tried this restaurant. It was pretty good with great service. I had the fried calamari and seafood pasta which included mussels, shrimp, and scallops. My daughter had the fried shrimp and fries. Everything was pretty tasty. I only gave it 4 stars because the scallops and mussels had a weird taste...but the rest of the food was phenomenal. I'd eat here again if I'm ever in Florida.

I went for Valentine's Day and had their take on Jambalaya. It was different. It was not the traditional Louisiana style of jambalaya that I'm used to but it was delicious none the less. I would highly recommend that dish. My waitress was kind and considerate and I didn't have to wait to be seated. I don't really have any complaints. However I wish the dessert selections were more numerous. I had the caramel cheesecake and it was delicious.

My wife and I had dinner at this place when we were in Florida, and it was our first time to try seafood. The food was fresh and delicious. The waitress was so friendly and nice with us and had an answer to all our questions about the menu. I liked that they have a board hanged on the wall showing the different types of fishes they serve and the price of each type. The waitress helped us to pick two type of fishes from the board and her suggestions were so delicious. I will definitely visit this restaurant again any time I'm in Tampa. I highly recommend this restaurant. It was a great day for us.

The clam chowder is superior to any chowder that we have tried in the Bay area. A bowl of chowder spilt between two adults is a nice appetizer. Be careful though, it's rich and filling. Crackers are served with it, but they are not needed since the chowder is not watery whatsoever. We had a very late lunch/early dinner so the restaurant was relatively quiet. Service was prompt, polite and competent. Following the chowder, our meals consisted of: 1) a large order of grilled fresh salmon with mixed veggies and buttered potatoes; and 2) the Ultimate Combo plate which has grilled salmon, a skewer of grilled shrimp and a jumbo lump crab cake also served with steamed mixed veggies and buttered potatoes. The salmon was not overcooked and thus was tender and moist with a nice grilled flavor. The crab cake was very good. Tempted to order it next time as an appetizer. We couldn't finish so our leftovers were boxed up in a microwave ready container. We couldn't resist taking a piece of key lime pie home with us. We have had it before several times and it is excellent. All in all it was a pleasant and satisfying experience. We will return again.

Went to the Dale Mabry location for a birthday lunch. AMAZING experience! Not a fancy spot but great food. Our waitress was super nice and very helpful. Everyone's food was delicious, appetizers and entrees, which is a rarity. Our group included two people who "tolerant" seafood and they were even impressed. Authentic Family Owned Seafood Restaurant On our way home from Tampa Airport and we were looking for an authentic Seafood Restaurant that was NOT a chain restaurant. Read the reviews for Shells and decided to give it a try. There was a short wait as we arrived during the busy dinner time. There was a reviewer who complained about the decor and compared it to a chain restaurant. This is why we LIKE family owned restaurants, authentic, individualized decor, not cookie cutter. The waiter caught me writing a review on YELP and told me if we mention YELP, they give you a complimentary Margarita! My son, who is much healthier than me ordered the Grilled Seafood Platter and I ordered the Fisherman's Feast from the fryer! Glad we didn't order an appetizer cause both platters were piled high with fresh seafood! Need extra sauce? Not a problem. Finished the meal with the Key Lime Pie.My son's first time tasting Key Lime pie and he was impressed with the flavor. There are actually 4 Shells in Tampa and Brandon and one is actually closer to home than this location ;)

Food quality was very good. Shrimp was lightly breaded unlike some places that have a tiny shrimp inside a big clump of breading. Drink specials were a good buy too. Our waiter, Josh was great! Stopped here on a road trip and was disappointed when my wife told me it was a chain. We tried it anyway and it was an amazing experience. Fresh oysters, very cold beer, perfect pasta! Absolutely Amazing! We went there for dinner on our vacation it is was some of the best seafood I've ever had! First we had the Coconut Shrimp and it was so fresh and had a nice crust even with the sauce. My husband and I had the Classic Surf and Turf and the grilled shrimp was was fantastic and I would have loved to get the secret ingredients for the sauce! My husband and I aren't big fans of pepper so the steak was a little too peppered for us but was so good and moist (his was Medium and mine was Medium Rare). My husband hates asparagus and it was the first thing he finished on his plate. He did say the potatoes were a little plain but the asparagus and broccoli was perfectly seasoned... The Rum Runner drink was really good too! Rachel was our server and she was so happy and attentive to us as well as her other tables... I really can't wait to come back on our next vacation hopefully!

Had the salmon with new potatoes and broccoli. The salmon was excellent didn't have to send it back like many other places. The new potatoes were seasoned simply with a little salt and they were perfectly cooked. The broccoli was tender but not mushy. I like it with some texture and it had it. We enjoyed this restaurant with a couple of friends and found it to be the better of the two Shells we visited this weekend in Tampa. The location was super-convenient to our hotel and Busch Gardens with excellent food at a bargain price. Came to this place while on vacation . Good food I got the crab legs and shrimp.The service was not so good, the waitress seem overwhelmed and rude . She took away my appetizer before I finished eating it and didn’t ask if I was done or not , then when I told her about it she argued with me saying that she took it away because it was empty which was not true. My family and I felt that situation was unnecessary and embarrassing. After speaking with the manager the appetizer was replaced but when she closed out our tabs she had put the wrong chargers on some of them.

On a family vacation and found Shells Seafood Restaurant on Google with amazing reviews so decided to give it a try. We were NOT disappointed!! The service was great...and the food was amazing!! Our waitress was named Findley and she was very helpful and answered all of our questions and offered suggestions for us to try (which we did). My husband said the clam chowder was the best he has ever tasted. I had the shrimp scampi with rice, husband had the classic seafood pasta and our daughter had the Ultimate combo. We were all very pleased with our choices. We got a piece of key lime pie and chocolate cake to go so haven't tasted it yet but feel confident we won't be disappointed based on how good the rest of the food was!!

Very clean place with a casual atmosphere. Try the oysters, they’re sustainably farmed and SO tender. Shells is a must if you’re in Tampa.

Party of nine (9) and not a single complaint. Food and service was phenomenal. They added 18% gratuity and our server, Brandon, deserved and got more added to the tip. Don’t pass on the clam chowder, it’s the best we ever had. Absolutely recommend for all guests young and old!

Delicious seafood and outstanding service (thanks, Betsy)! I don't even really like seafood, but we went because my husband was in the mood for it. The reason I took away a star is due to the portion of the Feast meal being a little underwhelming. They did make it right when he said he was missing some substance on the plate, but it was a skimpy portion of fish until he asked about it. Also, our appetizer and kids meals (ordered first) came out after the other food. On the other hand, I really enjoyed my Shrimp and Cheese Tortellini dish with the yummy sauce (made in-house). The calamari was also good, and the kids' burgers disappeared pretty quick. My family of 4 ate for $45 (*military discount*) and left full.

One thing I miss living in FL is good seafood from the pacific. Thankfully Shells Seafood has become a regular comfort to me. The restaurant is nice although I usually get it their food to go. The king crab legs, lobster, and shrimp tacos are my usual, and I always order the clam chowder with it. They give you a lot of food, and I've never been anything other than satisfied afterwards. When my family visits from CA I bring them here and they love it too. Highly recommend trying this place.

We went in and were seated promptly for dinner. We had a good selection of fresh fish to choose from, which, when in Florida, we always like. Our party of four all had something different. First up, the onion rings. Now let me tell you, when it comes to onion rings, you could say I am somewhat of a connoisseur. The onion rings were good bordering on fantastic, especially the small crispy ones. Next, one in our party had a salad which was pretty standard fare but good nonetheless. Finally, our entrées arrived... We all were surprised at the portion size even though, in a couple of instances, it was supposed to be 6 Oz, there was definitely more! I personally had the hogfish, grilled. It was butterflied with the tail left on (absolutely no bones which should be a given) with a lemon butter sauce applied. It was really a great piece of fresh fish. I opted for the fresh vegetables and parsley potatoes, the vegetables were delicious with a mix of onion, zucchini, green beans, carrots and corn. My Wife had the crab cakes and they were quite possibly the best I have ever tasted. Probably 75% jumbo lump crab meat with just the perfect amount of herbs, vegetables and bread crumbs. These were definitely the highlight of the night for us. The service was immaculate, and we all left well fed, fat, and satisfied. We were both greeted and thanked at the door by who we thought was probably the management, so overall a great experience!

We were acknowledged and seated immediately, and our waiter, Aaron, was very friendly, personable, entertaining and just did an all-around great job making sure we were well-taken care of. Wow the best fresh food ever. I just traveled from fort Myers because the review I read online, and wow it was way way better than we expect it. Kicked myself for not ordering the bowl size clam chowder as that was best ever since I could taste the clams in every bite. Great friend staff to answer all my questions. Let me start by saying that I have given 3 stars for the service not the food. I have been going to Shells for nearly 25 years. When they closed the restaurants in the Orlando area I was disappointed. It was nice to see them again in Tampa. The food here is good and does not disappoint. I would recommend you visit here. The atmosphere is very indicative of what you expect in Florida. My three star rating is not because of the food but the service. Our server paid more attention talking with her coworkers than she did to the patrons. People who came in after us who were being served by others got their food before we did. We were never offered refills on our drinks (I had water, my friend had a beer). When it came to pay the check I had my credit card in hand to hint that we were ready. She was less than 15 feet from us and could not tear herself away from the conversation. It has been awhile since I have been to Shells and I will visit again the next time I am in Tampa. (I hope they return to Orlando.)

This place was excellent! We found it by doing a simple google search search. With over 1600 reviews and such a high star rating we had to try it. We pulled up and it reminds you of a mom and pop type place. The food was fresh and has tons of flavor! The restaurant was very clean as well we the bathrooms. Always love every shells I go to. I went during the lunch rush and my waitress was still extremely thorough. I order the muscles everytime and I decided I wanted a half pound of king crab. My waitress warned me that the market price went up and that there were other cheaper options on the menu. Not most waitresses would be so up front, they'd look at it as a higher tip. I think her name was Rachel. Got the shrimp skewers and a side of lemon. I would definitely recommend this! Great food never dissapoints.

I have not been to a Shells in close to 20 years. Spent the weekend in Tampa for my birthday and passed a sign, best choice of the day. We had calamari , conch fritters and clam chowder for appetizer and Felix salmon and pasta with baby lobster. It was absolutely amazing. I would of given 5 stars had I not gone to the bathroom. I did however state that to the host because I could not find a manager. Hopefully he corrected that, I did note to him how delicious everything was but if I went to the bathroom first, I wouldn't of eaten there as I feel a general rule is, if everything including the restroom is clean them the kitchen must be.

We stumbled across this place after picking family up from the Tampa airport. And boy were we glad to find it! The owner seemed to be very involved in what was going on and she was very friendly. Then at the end of our meal she noticed my nephew didnt eat his oysters. She asked if everything was ok and she ended up taking them off of the bill bc he didnt like them. We were so pleasantly surprised. The restuarant had a super cute feel and the rest of us all enjoyed the food

Thanks to the cop at the airport who recommended Shells. The food was amazing. Since I’m a foodie, I decided to try several dishes. I started with the clam chowder. It was the best I’ve ever had. It would have been even better if someone had tasted it because it was too salty. With that being said, it was still really really good. I tried the fried calamari next. Cooked to perfection!! My body was so happy, I noticed myself dancing and eating to the music. This is usually what my sister would do. Next I tried the seafood pasta which had clams, shrimp, mussels, and one other fish. The only thing I would suggest is grilling the shrimp or something because it was too bland going against the other flavors in the dish. I left the shrimp on an otherwise best seafood pasta I’ve ever eaten. The only reason they don’t get 5 stars is because the lemonade (pink) came out of a koolaid pack I think. The service was excellent. I’m sorry I didn’t post this review when I knew my server’s name. Finally, Shells is not pretentious, and their food is the best in Central Florida. Shells, please know that when I come back next week, I will have an entire crew with me.

Visiting from Pittsburgh, my friend and I wanted seafood. We found Shells through an online search. Best place ever!!! Food was fantastic and came out piping hot. Taylor, our server was great, super friendly, helpful and fast. Next time we’re in Florida we are definitely coming back! If you’re in the area, you will not regret coming here.

Mahimahi was ok, Seafood stew was disappointing with fatty part of the salmon belly that congealed the sauce when it cooled. Clams (4) were all shriveled on the inside... Nothing to eat. Shrimps were boiled firm, but tasted ok. Baby scallops were not even registering. Shrimp and scallop pasta, just lots of pasta...left majority of it once the shrimp and scallops ran out. Skip the stew and pasta. Calamari is small sized, lots of tasteless batter and greasy. Prices are reasonable, but food is disappointing. Stick to fish and fried foods.

The food and server was great. The reason for my low rating is how Sarah the manager on duty handled my question. I asked for the 10% LA Fitness discount and was told they don't do that. On my way out I asked Sarah why did they stop? Her response was I been here 4.5 yrs and I never heard of that and she stated she asked another co-worker who has been there a long time and they haven't heard of it. I told her ever time I come they always have given the discount. Her customer service should have been more professional and said, Sir I will honor it this time but we no longer offer a discount. Not I never heard of it and I been hear for over 4 yrs. Also she stated maybe it was promotion when the gym opened. It can't be a promotion when they have us the discount every time in the past.

I've been coming to shell's restaurants for 30 years at this point and I've never Visitor the show on South Tampa tell maybe highway until today and I have to report that the food was the very best shells presentation I've ever witnessed in my 30 years of coming here to a shell's restaurant and the tartar sauce was the most lemonade that I've ever had in my life ruined cocktail sauce was sharp pungent and horseradish laiden, the shrimp pasta was the best I have had anywhere EVER and THE FRIED FOOD WAS PERFECT. The waitress was too eager and interrupted our meal and conversations more than seven times during the course of our luncheon. We had dinner at Shells on a Saturday night. The pasta was delicious and we received large portions. The service was extremely slow although the restaurant wasn't crowded. Parking was a bit difficult...not enough Disabled Parking and even when restaurant was empty parking nearby was limited. Gary is a new server learning the "ropes". He did very well and shows he cares for his customers...GREAT JOB, DUDE!

Our family stopped in here on our way to Clearwater Beach for some lunch, based off of the reviews we read. The place was decorated casually in a beach theme and was clean. We asked the server if they served battered fish and was told yes. Ended up being breaded, so not to our liking. The portions were average. One of our group had scallops and they were a little hard to find lol - small bay scallops. Every item was breaded in the same coating so you didn’t really get to taste the flavour of the seafood item. In the end, this restaurant is ok - not bad, not great. I would keep looking for a better seafood place though.

Awesome food. To start we each had delicious New England Clam Chowder. Lots of fresh pieces of clams. Next we had Buffalo Shrimp for an appetizer. The shrimp were lightly breaded and just the right amount of seasoning. Definitely will be ordering buffalo shrimp again. I had the Fried Grouper w/ french fries and cole slaw. The whole dinner was delicious. Large quantity of fresh grouper. The homemade cole slaw had pieces of Mandarin oranges. Great recipe and was very tasty. The French fries were hot and just the right amt of salt. My friend had the Fisherman's Wharf dinner. It came with fried shrimp, scallops, clam strips and a large piece of fresh fish 🐟. My friend also had the cole slaw and french fries 🍟🍽️ His dinner was delicious. For the price, it came with a large portion of everything. The whole experience was extraordinary. One of the best seafood places in Tampa. Highly recommend it!!!

The grilled seafood platter was so tasty in its simplicity. I loved the snapper and the seasoning used on it. There was lots of black pepper. The grilled veggies were cooked well, not overly soggy. I substituted the potatoes for the rice. Perfect meal for after a plane ride!

Flavor of the food was good the fried food specially was above average but the stew like food was salty. Jambalaya was not what I spect it it was salty and it was just a stew of shrimp and sausage over dry rice. The alcoholic drinks are below average. Again over all taste is good. My family used to go to Shells when they were in South Florida but hadn't been to one in about 15 years. The food was definitely as good as I remembered. I had the shrimp pasta with marinara instead of their cream sauce and it was fabulous! Lots of shrimp!! Other dishes ordered were chicken pasta and baby lobster pasta and they were also delicious.

Stopped in to have some crab while visiting the Tampa area. Casual andblaid back with awesome food! Rachel took great care of us - very friendly and made great drinks as well! Crab was served up with a great slaw and potatoes. We would definitely recommend Shells!

This place is awesome. I had some of the best coconut shrimp with fries ever! The people are so friendly. They all seem to love their job. We even went on July 4th. You must go to Shells when you go to Tampa.
