I saw Mise en Place years ago and my husband made reservations for us to dine there for date night. The experience was incredible! The food was exceptional and was the best food I have ever eaten! The ambience was upscale with very chic and modern decor. All of the waitstaff were beyond attentive with our water glasses never hitting below half. The manager even came by to check on our experience which was thoughtful and lovely. I cannot recommend this restaurant any higher because they hit every mark and beyond. They even offer free parking directly across the street.

My husband brought me here for Mother's Day so they had a special Mother's Day menu laid out. We had a three-course meal and it was divine. The braised short rib was my favorite along with the cheesecake. We were trying to take a selfie before we left and this young man said, No I have the perfect spot for you and he took our picture in a beautiful wine room. I loved the decor. I will definitely be returning. Kudos to my hubby for planning this all by himself.

We went for the first time earlier this year but left a bit disappointed. Presentation, flavor and service were all pretty good but none were outstanding. The lamb was great but the tofu dish was very bland.
I felt that it had less of an anniversary dinner vibe and more of a business execs going to dinner vibe.
It didn't help matters that they completely overhauled their menu two days before our meal and many of the dishes I was eyeing ahead of time were missing in action.
I would give it another try at some point, but not in a hurry.

As always we enjoy our time at one of Tampa's elite dinning experiences. Chef Marty never disappoints and the staff is skilled and knowledgeable. We started with the stuffed zucchini blossoms and Korean Shrimp crab pancake. So unique, delightful. We had the Scallops, Cavatelli, Duck and Venison. All excellently prepared and presented.

This was a lovely dining experience. It has become one of my favorite restaurants in the Tampa Bay area. I got the rack of lamb, which was very good. I would pass on the calamari next time. I tried some of the seafood pasta, and it was good as well. The lemon sauce emulsion for the bread was my favorite thing there! The dessert was very good. The menu prices might be on the higher end, but the quality, ambiance, service, and vibe make it worth trying.

An exquisite establishment with excellent service. Mouth watering appetizing nourishment tasted as though it was made from scratch. Savoring every flaky juicy tender bite even down to the drink made the night even more memorable. I'm looking forward to the next visit.

We went to Mise en Place last Wednesday and it was PERFECT. Melissa helped and guided us to a great meal experience. I had the Honey Bee drink (3 drinks, ha) - it was marvelous. Our appetizers were the buttermilk soft shell crab and a chef's special, some sort of crudo. All excellent. My entree was the red snapper and believe me when I say that it was fantastic!! The lemon panna cotta was amazing. Now, the biscuits they offer with bread and butter were OUTSTANDING!!! They are so flaky and delicious. What a great experience. Definitely a keeper. Highly recommend it!

This place is so fabulous. The menu changes often but the service is always impeccable. My husband and I just went and enjoyed the smoked salmon carpaccio, scallop appetizer, duck and venison. The cocktails are also fantastic! One of the best in Tampa.

This was my first time at mise en place and it did not disappoint. I had the Korean Argentina shrimp crab pancake. It was very tasty but also pretty spicy. The smoked salmon carpaccio was my favorite appetizer. I had the venison for my entree and it was very very good. The grits and kale on the side also paired well with the venison. The s'mores tart dessert was delicious. The marshmallow on top tied the dish together really well. The graham cracker ice cream sounds weird but I think it was pretty good. It tasted exactly like a graham cracker.
All in all, as a first experience, it was an amazing time and I would highly recommend going there

Chef Marty, Maryann and the team hav3 been feeding me Mise en Place for 25 years. Consistently among the best restaurants in Florida. Great food, wine, cocktails and service. Marty was the first local chef to open a gourmet chef:driven market & eatery but it was too early for Tampa. The two have been a positive force for local, small businesses, helping their employees grow their careers into other roles and likely far more positive things to recount here. Highly recommend! Located across the street from University of Tampa.

Wow! How do I start.... the establishment was very clean and beautiful! It was a little confusing on which door was the entrance but not terrible difficult (could have been my fault because of where I walked up). Just pay closer attention and you will be fine. The service was absolutely insane! The group of servers tending to our party were very professional but super real! I loved that they took such good care of us and were so helpful to everyone (we were quite needy throughout the evening). This was my first time visiting and was here with a bride and groom for the rehearsal dinner. Great place for a group event! They handled ours very well. The food was amazing, from the appetizers to the dessert, I did not hear anyone complain about the food at all. I must say... the creme brulee was amazing! Definitley looking forward to my next visit!

Service was excellent. Food was prepared exactly the way I asked. Try the Duck or the Venison. For desert try a unique combination of polenta, ice cream, olive oil, pistachio and blackberry jam. All the flavors complement each other.

It was a rainy night, and finally a night with no kids…Though they had zero reservations online. I popped in and asked the host if he had a table for two. The older host with nice combed over sleek hair said he could seat us and was so kind to give us an inside scoop where we could park. Inside I was ecstatic. With crumbs on my bench side and a dried noodle at my elbow. I gently swept it off to the ground. These things were not going to affect my experience. We were greeted quickly by a clean cut, bald young man. He was friendly, and seemed happy to be at work. All things I like in a server. We started with a mock tail, cocktail and calamari. It was perfect. Entrees followed duck and snapper. I didn’t taste the duck but my husband didn’t leave a bite on his plate. Again, it was perfect. A crème brûlée ended the meal. Creamy, crunchy top, warm at the first layer, the sugar not too burnt. It was heaven in a bowl with a crisp cookie on the side. The evening filled with delicious food and people watching was just perfect. I can’t wait to return in October for my birthday. I can’t wait to bring my mom from Miami next month. I cannot wait to take my kids. Mise en Place is 5 stars, period. ❤️ I know this because I want to share my experience with everyone I know.

We tried about everything on the menu and everything was absolutely amazing! Their menu changes weekly but the lamb stays! I highly recommend it!

The environment is very nice and calm we were sitting in the back with an amazing view of the University of Tampa.
It was our 8th Year Anniversary and the staff went out of their way to provide champagne and custom desserts for us without even saying anything.

Delicious!! Everything was beautiful, food was spectacular! The cappuccino was smooth and omgosh the dessert was everything!! Loved the passion fruit jam...I wish I could have taken some home in a jar! Service was great too. The hosts were both very welcoming and our server..she was on point!!

We were looking for a restaurant to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. After looking at the unique menu for Mise en Place we were excited to try it. The front staff was very welcoming. Tom was our waiter and he was very attentive as were so many others to check in on us. They brought us a sample app compliments of the chef, yummy, and a delicious basket of breads and biscuits ( biscuits were my fav). We had the calamari as a starter, the sauce on this was so good I sopped up the extra with my bread. I ordered the snapper and subbed roasted veggie for rice. My hubby got the filet and subbed the hangar steak accoutrements instead. It was all so very good! Had the creme brûlée for dessert, very nice. One of my fav restaurants ever!

A great place to go for a celebration or a date with your special someone. The food is exquisitely made and served. The staff is well mannered and particular in serving you the best. The atmosphere in the place is very classy and elegant.

Family decided to celebrate and we settled here. Before even eating, I was pleased with the look of the lobby and dining room. The host opened the door for me but I was taking a call, but still appreciated the gesture. I made a reservation but this night it also seemed like you could walk in fairly easily. We were a part of 5, so a variety of foods were chosen. Seemed like everyone loved their food aside from the halibut (was not as flavorful). Not docking it because not everything will fit my taste but that does not mean it is not well made. I got the lamb rack and I loved it.
A huge selling point to me before even ordering our food was the hosts and servers. There was someone different who took our drink orders than our meal orders which I feel speeds things up. The server was knowledgeable and friendly.
A personal pet peeve of mine is when a menu lists the ingredients of items but you can’t really paint a picture of what the dish will be, then when you ask the server, he describes it the same way. In those cases, you need to ask how it tastes to speak their language. This is that kind of place, it’s not bad, just different.
They serve a cold soup first and it is delicious. Sooo good. When he said cold soup and peas I was uncertain but glad I tried it because we all loved it. The different breads in the basket were good.
Seems like they don’t have a blender so if you order a mudslide, it will be on the rocks. Tastes great, just something to note.
Added bonus, there is no table near the restroom. In the dining room there is a black door that leads to a hallway where the men and women’s restrooms are. It’s not even labeled as the restroom hallway which I think is very mindful and appreciative.

Exceptional service and exceptional food!
I made reservations for my husband and I as a kick off to our Tampa mini staycation for just the two of us. We were running behind on getting to our hotel to check in before we left for dinner, so I knew we were going to be cutting it close to our dinner reservation.
I gave the front desk a call, but since our reservation was close to the time they opened, the restaurant wasn’t open when I called. I decided to leave a voicemail letting the attendant know we were running behind, and to please leave a voicemail in the case I missed a call back. The attendant was so kind as to call back and leave a voicemail letting me know they were very booked for the evening but would hold the reservation for about half an hour after our original time. Thank goodness because we arrived towards the end of that window but they were so kind as to accommodate us with no issue and no additional wait.
I’m so glad because we ended up having a fantastic time. The French cuisine was modern and a little intimidating if you’re not used to exploring food, but we thoroughly enjoyed everything we received. We ordered the Korean Argentina Red Shrimp Crab Pancake and Wow. It was delicious. Cooked to literal perfection, with a lightly fried crispiness to the top which gave it a wonderful texture, and the tonkatsu sauce with the red pepper just made the flavors mix so well. My husband isn’t typically a fan of seafood but enjoyed this. I would absolutely order it again.
My husband ordered the filet of beef, and I the duck breast. Both were so incredibly tasty, and presented so beautifully. We savored each and every bite.
Our server, who was attentive and personable, really made our experience enjoyable. He encouraged us to explore the menu and made great recommendations. We suggested a smoked whiskey bourbon for my husband, which was a fun delivery and a whiskey not for the faint of heart 😅 I received a “Bird is the word” which was a flashy flame drink. It’s a genius drink. As soon as you take your first sip, you’re hit with a refreshing coolness that contrasts the hot fire that was literally just blown out. I thoroughly enjoyed that drink.
The dessert menu is ultimately what made me make the reservations in the first place. I knew my husband would love the dessert. He ordered the Milk Chocolate S’mores Tart and I the White Chocolate Hazelnut Praline Cheesecake. Funny enough, we took one bite of each other’s desserts and immediately switched. They were both delicious, but turned out we’d ordered desserts that were perfect for one another.
Overall, we’d highly recommend this restaurant. From the host, to our waiter, to the bartender, to the fantastic chefs, they KNOW what they are doing. It’s not just the appearance of a fancy restaurant with an unjustified price tag to match. This restaurant knows cuisine and service through and through and earned each star in this review, and then some. We will absolutely be coming back.

Dinner at Mise En Place last night was delish! Every bite was an explosion of flavor...one of my best meals ever! It is a great place to celebrate special occasions; we came to celebrate our 1 year anniversary and the chef made it special by serving champagne to toast, a small taste of soup prior to our starters and a sweet message on our dessert.
We started with the beet salad, tartine, and oysters. I had the duck breast for my main course and he had the lamb chops. For dessert we chose bread pudding. Will be return customers for sure!

"For the adventurous " it says on the menu and so it is. Flavorful, fresh and vibrant dishes. Loved the hummus and the patit fillet. Almond and white chocolate cake delicious dessert.

I have been here several times in the past few weeks and this place is excellent. The food is always amazing and I never need to add salt or change anything to the food. That is a first for me! The staff are very professional and super friendly. There is usually something new on the menu so you can come over and over and not get bored. You will not be disappointed, there is a reason this place has been around for 34 years.

In the Bay Area there is no shortage of upscale restaurants but honestly there is no place better than Mis en place.. we've eaten there many times and everytime we've taken guests along, they always say something like "this feels like we're eating dinner in a movie restaurant". So you can make your own decisions but remember it's up to you if you want an experience that can last a lifetime.

Fantastic meal start to finish. Everything was extremely tasty, and wonderfully prepared. I had the Sous Vide Venison - it was so flavorful and tender! My husband had the Hangar steak - great portion and it was a perfect medium rare. What a perfect place to dine for a Valentine's Dinner.

My bf took me on a date and it was so nice. The main entrance was a bit hard to find but that allowed to take a walk around the area. I had the burger and it was delicious, I also had the olive oil cake and it was my favorite part of the whole meal. The place also felt safe as tables where spaced out and everyone was wearing masks. Highly recommend 😋

Terrific restaurant with outstanding service. It has a somewhat confusing entrance, as it's on both sides of the block. Of course, we went to the the wrong side. But once inside -- foodie's heaven. Everything from the breads to the entrees was absolutely delicious. My only complaint is the excellent and extensive wine list focused on higher-end bottles at higher-end prices. We struggled to find a reasonable bottle (although our waitress guided us to a good one). She was super friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. This is probably the best French style restaurant in the Tampa area and absolutely worth a visit. Oh, and I love the name "Mis en Place," the term for preparing and placing all your ingredients before you start cooking. This very idea being the source of such precise and well executed dishes. Seems they have achieved that. Loved it.

Very pleasant atmosphere. Upscale restaurant with consistently good food and service. A bit on the pricey side, but worth the splurge occasionally. It was our anniversary, and we were given a small glass of complimentary champagne, which was nice. Also all the wait staff took the time to give us best wishes. We got two different pasta dishes and both were very tasty. We shared a beet and burrata salad, which was also good. A complimentary bread basket contained herb biscuits and well as slices of french bread. Cocktails are all over $15 each as are most glasses of wine. There are several beer choices at comparable prices to most nicer restaurants. I would recommend for special occasions, date night, etc. All in all, an excellent place for fine dining in Tampa.

Took our son there last night for his 18th Birthday. 7 in our party. When we walked in the Maître d’ seemed surprised we had a reservation. We were dressed up. So that was odd. Odder still was the fact that the pandemic ended many months ago and the ENTIRE staff is still masked up!! Its beyond us... but it’s uncomfortable as the waitress tried to tell us the specials, her mask kept falling down, she touched it a million times. Finally left it with her nose out. Also, It’s so hard to hear when people are trying to speak behind those things! The owner/manager woman had hers on while perusing the restaurant checking on guests ..yet while sitting with customers (as we were leaving) at the bar she was wearing her muzzle looking one like a chin strap. STOP Already! The food was good. The service was good. It’s pricey as expected. But the mask wearing staff will keep us from ever going back until they stop the nonsense. No need. It’s over folks. Get on with the celebration and enjoyment of life!

Ate at bar, 2 apps cobia, and beet salad. Sald was good, cobia was off ate 1 piece set it aside, told out bartender (who never refilled my water once in over an hour 30.
It sat there untouched, he asked if ibwas finished, I said yes' it was a bit off, tonight.' NOTHING. Simply took it away.
Chose not to order due to this, my guest orderd the lamb, which csme out almost raw for (and I hate this too but) mid rare plus specifically towards the medium side.
It was much closer to Pittsburgh than mid rare, so much so the meat was cool.
As she asked for the most to be cooked more, our bartender did not allow thus moment to pass without judgement. 'THAT is medium rare, you should have said medium.
1st you are incorrect, plain and simple unless mise en place deffinition of med rare is different from the Universal 135mr/ med 160.
There were 2 other couples at the bar, so traffic was not the reason.
And I won't be back to find out. Apparently my business is not appreciated and if I don't like the food, it happens, all chef have bad Days and Marty is a Rockstar.
But I didn't deal w him, who I did deal w literally poured me 1 drink, oh also caught a little attitude for asking the price on 3 whiskeys. I won't post the prices but they are @ a SIGNIFICANT markup. I knew this going inn so I wanted to ASK the price,
Example: 65 dollar bottle, price per glass 24.00 ! 27.00 / 18.00 bottle prices are @ retail.
Quite frankly all of this would be fine if the service had been simply adequate.
Too many options to be treated that way regardless of how good the food is/used to be.

We went to Mise en Place for a social event. We had two cocktails that cost $44 before the tip. The cocktails were good, but not worth $44. I won't be back.

So glad we came to eat dinner here. They just renovated and the place is absolutely beautiful. The service was phenomenal (shout out to Annette). And wow the food! We ordered the market oysters, chimichurri octopus, pork belly, and duck croquettes. Everything was so delicious and very unique, the chef puts a twist to everything. The pork belly will melt in your mouth. The cheesecake was out of this world, forgot the exact name but it's made with goat cheese and it's so incredibly fluffy. Pictured are also a port and averna with the chocolate mousse. Definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu! Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Probably the best food I’ve ever had. Server (forgot his name but good looking guy with black hair kinda slicked back) was absolutely amazing and very knowledgeable about the whole menu and based off my wife and my favorites, he recommended the best wine I’ve ever had in my life (Ken Wright Satoya Pinot Noir). Will definitely be there again. Highly recommend.

I've been aware of this restaurant for years and was really excited to get to dine there. The atmosphere is exquisite and the service is impeccable. The menu is diverse and offers the diner many options, and the cocktails particularly the Mise Royal was exceptional. We started our dining experience by sharing the beet and burrata salad which was divine. My main course was the American Red Snapper and to my disappointment, it was served severely undercooked and I had to send it back. By the time they "corrected" the mistake, my dining partner was finished with there dinner. I was surprised that something like this could happen in such a high caliber restaurant, especially when they weren't busy (5:30). I'd like to give it another try, but regret to say that they weren't as concerned as they should have been for the error.

We dined for the 1st time at mise, It will certainly not be our last. Service was on point food was outstanding. The sommelier was very Knowledgeable and picked out a wonderful bottle of wine for us. We had the cobia and octopus as appetizers the octopus was the best and most tender I've ever had! She had the filet which was delicious and cooked to perfection and I had the snapper which also was absolutely amazing. The chef truly has an amazing palate as his Food is paired together so well on the plate.

Went here with some friends for dinner during the week. The atmosphere here is very inviting and warm. They service was ok. The wait staff was very attentive and kind, but not confident in the answers to our questions about the food and wine. The food itself was really good, albeit not write home to mom about it good. Expect to pay about $100 a person for a normal meal, wine, appetizer, meal, dessert.

Last night my husband and I went to Mise en Place for the first time to celebrate our anniversary and my birthday. From the moment we entered, it was a delightful evening. The restaurant itself is a beautifully decorated space, and was comfortable and cozy at our corner table. The service was impeccable - knowledgeable server, attentive, and in no way rushed, we were able to sit and enjoy the experience. We had the Korean shrimp and crab pancake for an appetizer, the lamb and steak frites for supper and the chocolate torte with passion fruit sauce for dessert…every bite was delicious. I’m still trying to decide which was my favorite part! While eating, we also met one of the owners, Maryann, who also made us feel right at home. Thank you for a wonderful evening, looking forward to the next time!

Had the burrata and beets which was really good. Also had the jackfruit curry which I was hesitant about but it was delicious and very unique in flavors. Had a good number of options for vegetarians. Also really beautiful and upscale looking place so great for a special occasion.

Delightful birthday dinner. Our first time dining here and it exceeded our expectations. The poutine was the star of the appetizers we got, our party raved over the lamb entree which they referred to as Lamb Lollipops haha and the smores dessert was phenomenal. Nice atmosphere, service, bread, kimchi crab cakes. The mains were much too large. The protein was properly cooked. The sauces were awful; they tasted like salad dressings. Some of the sides were weirdly sweet and belonged on the desert menu. Both mains were over seasoned. This place has great potential but needs less creativity and more attention to making the flavours go together.

The Ambiance and the Food is an Incredible Combination
I was at Mise en Place today, July 09, 2019, and I have come away with an incredibly positive experience from the location.
First the food. Oh my goodness is the food perfectly formulated to fit a palate which is predominantly difficult to cater too. My wife and I are both vegetarian and their vegetarian menu is wonderful. The three course menu was exceptional from the beginning, with the reception of the bread to the dessert, which was light and flavorful. The tofu during the entree was so well cooked that I am still in shock, 3 hours later.
Although the place was under construction at the time, the wait staff including our waitress Jeannie, did an incredible job. The owner was also there to make it an imperative to make sure that all are satisfied but, above all, the chef can not be beat with the food combinations!
Mise has been around for some years and with the service and food it will go for many more. Definitely Recommend.

We spent a magical evening at Mis en Place this week. Chef Marty planned a menu for our daughter’s graduation dinner. We were seated in the beautiful front room that we reserved for the event. Upon arrival we were greeted with cocktails and appetizers. We were given ample time to socialize and then seated at the tables that were prepared for us. Dinner was a selection from an array of delicious entrees including a seafood capellini, salmon, filet with duck fat potatoes that were to die for and several other choices. Everyone raved about the food, service and atmosphere. It is clearly our favorite restaurant in town and Marty Blitz never disappoints.

The drinks menu was excellent, a load of great choices for me on beers, good Gin selection and Gin cocktails for my wife, and a large range of whiskeys.
I had the whole Soft-shelled crab appetizer and my wife had Scallops, both amazing. I can only imagine what the entrees are like!

This is not a cheap restaurant but any means. In my experience high end restaurants can be divided into "It was how much?" and "That was amazing.". Mise en Place is just definitely one of the latter.

It is a little pricey but well worth it.

I will never be able to give this restaurant the credit that it deserves! We’ve been coming here for over 12 years and it’s been absolutely amazing every time we dine here. The food is delicious! Everything on the menu is delicious! And Yes, we tried everything! My absolute favorites are the oysters, the Foie Gras and the Rack of Lamb. Their wine selection and cocktail choices are impressive and delicious! I do love that they carry the Frank Family Cab! The chef is very consistent and his food is the best around Tampa! We have had Alex from Moldova as our waiter a few times, and his service is 5 stars! He always remembers us and knows our favorites! The entire staff at Mise en Place is fantastic and we had the owner come to our table few times every time we are there, to ask how is our food. The ambience is very intimate and romantic. They just renovated and even before the renovations the restaurant looked beautiful. My husband and I travel all over the world and we love exquisite food so I’m glad that Mise en Place is close to our home in Tampa. Definitely our #1 choice here! Most delicious food and Outstanding service!!

Back to the meal. All in all, the food was excellent. Well cooked, well seasoned, and very pleasant to the eye. the dishes are very original and borrow from many cuisines, which is usually good, but at the same time at some points there was such a cluster of ingredients on my plate that it was hard to know what it was exactly in my mouth. Nevertheless, like i said, the food was definitely the strongest point of the meal. Even the dessert - which I usually pick at for a few bites and that's it - was gone in a hurry.

I was intrigued by the creativity of the menu. So we went for our 35th Anniversary dinner, drove down from Jax for the weekend. Tom was our server, although so many others checked We started with some yummy complimentary bread, loved the biscuits the most. We had the calimari which had a deliciously unique sauce. I had the red snapper and my husband had the filet. They were both phenomenal! We finished with the creme brûlée, very tasty. Tom and the staff made it a wonderful celebration for us!

We visited Mis en Place for the first time last night with our family. Being residents of the Bay Area for 40 years, we have always heard great things. The food was good, but not overly impressive. It was quite disappointing because we were hoping that this could turn into one of those great places we visit multiple times a year with friends and business associates - like the other great restaurants in Tampa. The drinks and food were yummy. My wife's fried green tomato salad with crab was a welcome treat to my discerning partner. While the lunch crowd was lacking, the laid back classy atmosphere was refreshing after the high energy (loud) settings that appear to be the current trend in our urban restaurants. Mise en Place is still one of the classiest restaurants around. It is not stuffy and allows for enough "Florida casual", but the restaurant exudes class and elegance. The menu can be slightly complicated but dont let that deter you.
My wife and I went the other night to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Mise en Place is where we had our quaint reception 10 years ago. We were greeted with a glass of champagne and a server who was very attentive, professional and friendly. After incredible appetizers including the risotto and the scallops, we had halibut and duck entrees and finished with an incredible cheesecake. We couldn't have asked for a better dinner.
Do yourself a favor if you are not familiar with Mise en Place. Go there and let the chef entertain your palette in a truly elegant environment.

Service. Food and atmosphere were very well done. As long as you realize it is an expensive place ....the portions were good for me...not huge and everything was delicious including dessert. I tried the "2nd course" shrimp with plaintain puree and spicy black eyed peas - those two unique flavors played so very well together! (there were 3 shrimp), the main course American red snapper and risotto cake...delicious! And the pecan chocolate tort with caramel sauce....oh my! I was glad I was full already so I didn't embarrass myself by licking the plate.

My husband and I went here to celebrate my birthday, we went for the chef tasting menu with wine pairing. The entire meal was amazing. The only thing I didn't like was the constant servers standing over our table because of what I can only assume was the owner sitting at the table across from us. It still wouldn't stop me from going back and eating that food.

Elegant restaurant with incredible food! Don't be mistaken Mise en Place has all the stylings of high end French restaurant from duck pate to a cheese course, but everything in the middle is how they bring a feeling of balance to fancy.
The menu has a great selection of meals that blend French peppered with trendy American. We ordered the Grilled Hanger Steak with a side of Black Truffle Fries. The steak was all around incredible! The truffle fries were the perfect compliment. I would describe the entree portion sizes as medium - not too small that you're leaving hungry & not too large that you're stuffed. I recommend Mise en Place to anyone looking for a nice date night or for a special occasion.

We were given a choice of two tables as I asked for a romantic setting. We ordered drinks from the bar while we waited for our table, as soon as we put the order in we were sat. That just started a pleasurable evening. We would definitely go again.

This was our first time at Mise En Place. My husband and I went for lunch on a weekday and it was fairly busy with professionals at lunch, but we were seated immediately. I had the crab risotto and my husband had a fried crab leg sandwich. Both meals burst with flavor. It was a pricier lunch, but worth it. The give a very generous portion of (tasty) french & onion bread with butter. I actually had some risotto left for later. The portions are smaller, but still enough. Without the bread I would have eaten all of my risotto and been full/content and not stuffed. They allow you to switch the fries for a mixed green salad without charge. It was about $12 & change for each meal. I recommend it and intend to return. As another reviewer said, service is presented to enjoy the ambiance and not to rush the meal. As a former server at a chain restaurant, our goal was to have each table flip in 45 minutes or less, our lunch today ran about 50 minutes-an hour.

Our yearly place for our anniversary and it never ceases to impress. So we normally get something fancy such as steak or fish. We went with the burger the last time and it was the most incredible thing we had ever eaten. I also recommend the salmon Carpaccio. Service, food and drinks are always wonderful.

Nouvelle cuisine and large menu. Beautiful presentation and perfect portions. The complete dinner would have been enough food. But then I would have not tasted the wonderful pork belly or the cheese course. Only one negative was I ordered medium and the venison was red and raw in center. They quickly remedied.

My expectations were really high with the way everyone talked this place up, and I have to admit my experience fell short. We went on a Friday night at 7:30 and the place was practically empty. Surprising as it is tourist season. Ambiance is nice and the segmentation of the rooms provides for the feeling of privacy in a large space.
I got a little turned off by the menu when I saw mac and cheese with lobster and Kobe beef on the menu. I don't go out to nice restaurants to order something that is usually sold in a box and made in a microwave. Also, real Kobe beef is only available in Japan. It is illegal to export it from the country. The stuff sold in the US is just marketing BS, and is no where near the true Kobe quality. So both these thing I felt were kitschy and disappointed me.
We had the soft shell crab and scallops for appetizers and they were good but not great. The scallops were cooked perfectly but lacked substance. They were too petite and not as described by the waiter as "Sea Scallops" they were large bay scallops at best. The soft shell crab was tasty but the large grain batter fought with the texture of the soft shell crab ruining the dish by making the crab chewy. Good but not great.
For the entry we had the Duck and a Sauteed Snapper. The Duck was cooked a bit over medium rare and tasty but again not excellent. The snapper was over cooked and the sauce was horrible over salted. To the point where I could not eat it.
The pecan mouse dessert was great and the wine selection was really nice, but I really wanted the place to be more then it was. I liken this place to Bern's Steak house where the reputation out weighs the true quality of the food. I might go again if pressured but definitely not on my own.

I took my wife here for our anniversary and it was just amazing. It is one of the best experiences we've had at a Tampa restaurant. We both did the Prix Fixe menu with wine pairing and couldn't have had a better experience. We would definitely do this again and recommend it to our friends and family.

This might be my top favorite restaurant in Tampa. Atmosphere is great. Food is excellent. Waiters are highly trained. The calamari appetizer is a must-order dish. We dipped our bread and finished all the sauce. Jerk scallops was amazing, especially the spicy banana black bean sauce. It's not cheap, but highly recommended for special occasions.

Might have just been an off day but the lamb risotto was way on the salty side, however I wasn’t about to cause a stir about that. Nice textures and very creamy but that saltiness just killed it for me. The bread was wonderful and the hosts made me feel welcome. I’ll probably try this place again before I decide to put any nails in this coffin(I hope not). Absolutely enjoyed the Nebbiolo offered on the night I stopped by. 3 stars for a second chance.

I have been going to Mise en Place for years...ever since they were pretty much the only great restaurant in Tampa. Now there is a much more vibrant restaurant scene but Mise en Place is still one of the top 2 or 3 meals in Tampa. The Prix Fixe menu is always terrific especially with the optional wine pairings. The interior is lovely and the noice level is low enough for an intimate conversation. Service is knowledgeable and capable,friendly but not chummy, available but not intrusive - in other words practically perfect in every way. the menu is creative, fresh, local and delicious

We've been coming here regularly for 10 years, last night will have been the last time.
We went to dinner here friends who had never been. We talked up the restaurant, how we've been coming for years, how's its the best food in Tampa. We were embarrassed to have brought them.
Mise en Place has been one of the few Tampa fine dining restaurants worth visiting. The operating word being "was."
My wife had the scallops which were rubbery overcooked and dry. Her broccoli was burned and the lentils dry.
I had the coq au vin, which was anything but coq au vin. It was roasted chicken with parsnip puree, mushrooms in sauce and carrots. It was not chicken in wine. I get interpretations or deconstructed versions of classic dishes, but if that's what you are doing, tell me so I know what to expect. The server also had no concept of what coq au vin was when I asked him.
The rest of the food our friends had was OK at best, even the not-coq au vin was passable. But OK and passable is what you expect at Olive Garden, not a restaurant that bills itself as fine dining.
Lastly they seem to have increased all their prices by 20-30%. All good as long as your food measures up. But charging more for lower quality is unacceptable. Let's not even talk about the $20 Manhattan cocktail I was served when all the cocktails on the menu were $12-15, we're in Tampa, not Manhattan...
Mise en Place current state is a sad fall from grace, I can only hope they can find their way again before they lose more loyal customers.

A splendid surprise! The rack of lamb is a signature dish and when prepared by their chef it was perfect! The service was unparalleled to any other place we've dined. Although it appeared busy by the amount of customers, my wife and I didn't even noticebas the attention by each member of the wait staff was excellent. The food here is worth the pricetag. The decor may be stuck in the 90s, but any place that can convincingly turn polenta into a dessert can charge whatever they want in my mind. I was severely underdressed, and the staff didnt blink an eye or try to rush me out. I got a pepper crusted tuna dish for an appetizer, loved it. And then the salmon for my main made this one of the few places that has ever asked me for preferred temp on my fish, and I live in the PNW. We live on salmon, and you just get it whatever temp it comes out even in the "fancy" restaurants. Work some OT. Get a reservation. Eat here. Life complete.

All the positive reviews we found true and NONE of the negative reviews warranted. If you are looking for Carraba's or Macaroni Grill well this is not the place. If you are looking for a dining experience that "lights up" your palate then by all means Mise en Place is just the spot. Service was attentive even though it was busy. This type of restaurant is not a rush but rather to savor the ambience and dining pleasure.

Honestly one of the best restaurants I've been to in Tampa excellent service the food was delicious from the appetizers to the main course to the desserts I was pleasantly surprised highly recommended. Great food at this South Tampa eatery. Their chef offers variety on the menu. Service is exceptional. Come a little early before the lunch rush. It is also a great place to schedule small lunch events. Parking is always a problem in this section of town but a few circles of the block and the adjacent parking lots usually resolve the problem.

This place is incredible. Just had one of the best meals of my life! Excellent selection in the charcuterie board, and the beef carpaccio was perfectly tender and well seasoned. We had beef tenderloin, which was buttery tender and perfectly medium rare, and venison that was to die for. Save room for dessert! Yuzu mascarpone cheesecake with blueberry compote? Yes please. Don’t expect it to be cheap, but in this case you get what you pay for. Service is just as excellent, with extremely attentive wait staff.

LOVED: POUTINE (ours was duck. You can barely see the duck pieces but that is ok bec/the dish is so delish!)
WAS OK: So my hubby got the duck, which is a must.He didn't like the sides to that plate too much though.
-I got the HANGER STEAK and I swear the hubs can do way better. Also, the bottom of the plate had a layer of oil. The potatoes were super oily. I think that is why I got a bellyache afterwards, they tell pregnant people not to eat greasy food. I had no idea it would be greasy though.
-I got the chocolate/toffee MOUSSE, which has been in the menu for a long time. We both thought it was ok. We get better mousses at bakeries.
-I also got the fried green tomato SALAD. The arugula was delish! The fried green tomato is not my cup of tea. I gave it to the hubs to eat it.
OVERALL - was good but we didn't like everything in every dish, there was always something in the dish we didn't like, be it oily potatoes or pickled veggie strings. If we can substitute the sides for other things, we will do that next time (if we return).
Also, for the price, I'd say it might not be worth it, we spent 125 (not including tip) for both of us. We only had water. Waitress asked which kind, still or with ice. Since I like root temp water, we said still. Turns out we were charged $7 for that. Just be prepared so you are not surprised :)

Warm Olive Oil Pistachio Polenta Cake - Yes it is mouthful to say, not particularly a looker and small in size, but this decadent dessert is one of the best desserts I've ever had, including places like Commanders Palace. Warm and slightly sweet crispy polenta cake, creamy and savory pistachio ice cream and blue berry basil jam at the bottom. Everything comes together so well - from temperature to taste to texture, this is 5 star and more.

Enjoyed lunch here today .. my wife and I shared a very tasty soup of beans, ham and rice, a limp but delicious pizza containing sausage and and tomato, dressed with a mild mustard, an over salty soft shell cab dish with yummy, crisp, hush puppies and fries.
We wrapped up an enjoyable meal with a wonderful pecan toffee mousse and and a rich americano coffee.
We will be back.

After reading many reviews, my boyfriend and I decided to come here for a splurge date night. The interior is dim and intimate. We started off with a bottle of Cabernet that the waitress suggested, it was an excellent bottle. We then got three cheeses - a creamy cheese, bleu, and a firmer sheep cheese. All of the cheeses were excellent and a good portion. We were then served a basket of bread which had some excellent focaccia. Then we got the charcuterie plate, which had in house cured meats and it was excellent. I ordered the seared tuna as an entree and honestly it wasn't all that great. The flavor was awesome and it had a black peppercorn crust which was great but it had terrible sheaths of fat that I couldn't cut with my knife. My boyfriend ordered the duck breast which I tasted and it was excellent. Perfectly moist and flavorful, I wish I would have ordered it. We ended the dinner with the creme brûlée and it was one of the best I had ever had, and I've been to France. My boyfriend also ordered a shot of espresso afterwards which he said we great as well. Definitely a great experience and we would love to come back.

Our service started out very good with a team of two. The first two courses were excellent! i would highly recommend the charcuterie platter. Then the entree arrived, and the was the last time we saw the waitor until we had to wave him down. The duck and venison were outstanding; the steaks on the other hand were mediocre to poor. Neither the filet nor the Kobe strip were seasoned.

Extremely disappointed! Giving three stars because pork belly first plate was well balanced and absolutely delicious. The restaurant did not live up to the hype. Inconsistent cocktails. Wife's second plate was ham and crab risotto: rice was two minutes undercooked, needed seasoning badly, and needed acid. My second plate, shrimp w/saffron broth: AGAIN shrimp was overcooked, needed seasoning, needed acid, totally jipped on saffron and amount of broth. We also ordered the veal scallopini: lacking SEASONING, uneven cooking on the veal, smoked parsnip puree was gross; completely overpowered the dish. An ill conceived dish, lacks balance and color. My main plate, sous vide venison tenderloin with wild rice risotto: perfect medium rare cookery on the tenderloin BUT was ruined by whoever finished it on the grill. The grill was not wiped down before adding the venison because all I could taste were bitter pieces of soot. Risotto was AGAIN extremely under seasoned and gross, duck fat roasted root vegetables showed no skill with poor knife skills and undercooked. When you go to a place like this with a high ticket average you expect perfection and this place was FAR from it. You can pay less and get better food somewhere else. What good is ambiance and creativity without execution.
