Jerk Hut has been a Tampa favorite for as long as I can remember. I moved down here as a child and we have always gone to the establishment over on Fowler. This was a nice find after a long hair appointment and being extremely hungry. Food was freshly prepared as usual and quality taste. The sauce is always a must 👌🏾 if you're downtown in the area stop by and grab a quick bite. You won't be disappointed 😌

Okay, I hate to do this but I’m sure their may be others so I took off a star for false advertisement. NON LOCALS: THIS IS A FOOD TRUCK, I was unaware that this was a food truck. (Clearly didn’t know Tampa is known for a lot of these) and picked this place vs another with higher stars strictly because it was raining and needed to use the bathroom BADLY (prego probs) anyway I was literally dying to pee and drove further just bc I thought it was inside… it’s not lol Ok now to the actual review…. 10/10 Smokey jerk chicken with the rice is the bomb.. sad they had no plantains bc that’s where my craving was… would eat here again though!

Authentic Jamaican food like you won’t find anywhere else. The food is served cafeteria style, where you pick your meat and sides. I had the oxtail, vegetable rice and plantains. The oxtail was fall off the bone tender and full of flavor. Overall the food was absolutely delicious, one of a kind with hefty portions. The service was not very good, the food is served in a styrofoam box with plastic forks, it is dark and gloomy inside. Don’t come to this place expecting to be waited on. Come expecting to eat authentic Jamaican food, cooked up by an old Jamaican woman who still does it the way her great grandmother taught her.

Well I'm sure someone is just as curious as I was about their Friday buffet and live band so I will give as much advice as possible. First, I suggest getting there 7:45-8pm. The food was just getting served at this time and it will allow u to get a seat because it will crowded very quickly. Have $10 in cash ready because they had an issue taking my card at first but then the bartender helped me pay. The $10 cover their buffet, the live band and a rum punch. You must be 18+ to enter and 21 to drink( of course). They have trays and small plates for the buffet but u can always go back for more. The bar stayed crazy busy so if u want a drink, wait your turn.The upstairs was a cool place to enjoy the music. It does get hot so bring a hand fan and extra deo if u feel that is necessary for you but u will have fun! The AC came on periodically but prepare to sweat some especially if you will be dancing. Their buffet consisted of different types rice, veggies, plantains and plenty of meat selections. The band did a really good job and the food was good and hot! I had a great time and I think u will too.

Good food. Nice relaxing place to spend a Friday evening. The buffet and drinks are more than worth the price. The live band was amazing. The singers Errol and Brittany were friendly and entertaining. I will definitely go back.

First time visit for me, on a Sunday afternoon and the food (classic jerk chicken for me, curry goat for my wife, pork for our friends) was all very fresh and delicious! Laid back atmosphere with the 2 gentlemen serving could not have been more courteous and professional. Very memorable and enjoyable experience.

We went for the $10 buffet and reggae night and it was totally worth the money. You got a free alcoholic drink with this money also, a rum drink or beer. There was plenty of food for everyone and a good choice, with a few rice and curry options, some meat and veg options and plantain. The background reggae music added a nice touch without being too loud. People even brought their kids along. If you get chance this is worth the visit.

This place was as advertised! Very clean, and cozy restaurant. The waitress was nice, took my order, and I had my food in about seven minutes. I ordered the the following: Large Oxtails with rice & steamed cabbage. The food was good- The oxtails were definitely cooked right. Do your self a favor, and check this spot out. 5 Star!

My fiancee had an amazing meal, jerk chicken plate. The drinks were good but my meal was totally different. I ordered the cool chicken wrap...there were no tomatoes on it as the menu stated, barely any chicken on the wrap and I found FIVE small bones in my wrap. The server was great, I pointed out the bones I found but she said nothing. I wasn't pleased with mine AT ALL.

Unfortunately we were in town because my mom had to have a 3.5 hour surgery and we saw this jewel on the way in, we decided to go back after they took her in, let me tell you that was one of the best decisions ever, the food was outstanding, the rum punch was excellent!!!! They give you so much food, we dined in a family of 7, service was great, my brother even danced in the middle of the floor due to the special sauce which made his taste buds very happy..lol..he tried to get the ingredients, but that didn't happen..lol.. the people are friendly and make you feel at home. If you are looking for spectacular service, great music, food and people, then this is the place...We're already planning to return for the $10 Friday all you can eat buffet so we can eat and dance the night away you will not find better.. go and see for yourself

Tremendous food. Ordered jerk chicken and it was so fresh and roasted to perfection. Meat falls off the bone. Goat curry was delicious and not greasy. Most places in Tampa have their goat curries just drenched in oil. Reasonable prices too. Highly recommended, thanks so much for making my Jamaican day! I'll be coming back!

First time visiting Jerk Hut restaurant and at the Seminole Heights location. My husband and I both ordered the oxtails with rice and peas , and cabbage and we were NOT disappointed! You definitely get your money worth with PORTION size, and FLAVOR. We will definitely become regulars! Wait time was decent and location is perfect for us .

Found this place on Facebook, they had a live reggae band last night along with a buffet of some SERIOUSLY DELICIOUS FOOD!!! They had a lot of options to choose from not just some dried up been there all day type of food. For example rice w beans, rice n veggies, white rice, baked chicken, chicken wings, meat balls, chicken in sauce, cabbage, sweet plantains. I was kind of iffy on going in but now I know. Thanks to the owner for being so humble and making sure we enjoyed our selves, the owners friend for getting us in and getting us a shot of our choice also the lady at the front door for such great hospitality and making us feel welcomed. Oh and thanks to the guy who bought me a birthday drink!!! I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!!!

The food and drinks were delicious, the music was lovely. However, it didn't really have much space to sit and eat. The floor was slippery (they took too long to mop it) and too long to replenish the fish (which was disappointing for me because that's all I eat).

Excellent jerk chicken and yellow rice with a side of plantains. we found this place on accident walking around trying to get away from the convention center and it was a good find. The food was delicious and reasonably priced and there is a decent selection on the buffet. Pro tip- get the goat curry sauce over the yellow rice.

I ordered the goat curry meal with two sides. The spice was at a good level although I wish it had more of a curry taste. The rice was good and the plaintains were excellent. The goat meat was good but I thought it was a bit too fatty and there could have been more chunks of meat. You order at the cafeteria line and they serve it up right there so it's quick, especially if you are pressed for time.

Your in downtown Tampa looking at restaurants deciding on where to eat. Trying to choose between fried foods or pizza, bascially junk food. OR you could try out some jerk chicken. My first time going in I was a little hesitant but boy was I wrong. This food was amazing. Saturday was line ordering so I got the saffron rice, steamed cabbaged, jerk chicken with curry chicken sauce on the rice. It was insane. Even my 2 yr old son couldn't stop taking from my plate. Almost had to get more! Staff is awesome, music is perfect. Super happy about my experience, would go again.

I have been going to this restaurant almost weekly for over 2 years as I work in the downtown area. Their food is fresh, served quickly and at reasonable rates. Please give this place a try! Every particle of my lunch at the Franklin Street location was scrumptious, fresh and perfectly seasoned. The jerk chicken was succulent, so moist and tasty. The red sauce was an outstanding addition to the meal and my sister and I asked if it were bottled so that we could purchase bottles. If I return to Tampa this will certainly be one of my first stops.

Exceeded expectations! Went to a Rum Festival here. Wasn't sure what to expect, but had an awesome time. Authentic Jamaican food buffet, and food lasted for hours. Three different kinds of chicken - jerk, curry, and smothered in brown sauce. Rice and peas. Reggae band played authentic, old school and dance hall.

First time at the Franklin Street location was really good, everything fresh and tasty, service first-rate. Second time was disappointing. They seemed to be out of a lot of things: no plantains, no chicken breast, no greens. Goat stew was fatty with too many bones. Lesson: get there early. At the USF location everything was marvelous. Looking forward to trying the Sunday buffet with live reggae music.

I would have given you 5 stars but the location downtown is neveeeeeeerr open on the weekend at the time it says they open people are greeted with "were not set up yet" and turned away.. You should put on your web page that you open when your ready and not a specific time so customers don't waste their time coming! Second best to the main USF location off of Fowler and 275 ...you can see my review for that location and the food staff are equivalent . More like an express location to me to get the great food an dishes that I like. Always a stop I make when I am in the downtown area to get my order of curry goat, Roti Curry goat, oxtail or stewed chicken. I mix it up every time but never leave without my roti. Great atmosphere great staff. Food is prepared fresh and quickly.

Delicious Jamaican food. Full bar includes Red Stripe beer and Appleton Rum. Unfortunately parking in downtown is a pain but there is a parking lot available where you can pay to park your car half a block away. Live reggae music events are fabulous.
