We've had limited selections over two visits, so I'll start at 4 stars and see what happens. First, Gingerbread! It is clear as soon as you pull into the parking lot that gingerbread man is a specialty here oh, so I cannot figure out why none of the other reviews seem to mention the Gingerbread. A friend pointed us here, and even though three out of five in the family typically don't like gingerbread, we gave it a shot and LOVED it! Their gingerbread men (and women) have a more subtle ginger taste, and the texture is like any more conventional cookie (firm but soft and chewy). Unfortunately, the other item we tried once, the bread pudding, was simply awful. The taste and texture were unlike anything we had tasted, almost like burnt soap (which I know makes no sense at all). If we hadn't driven 30-45 minutes before tasting, we would have asked for a refund. The customer service has been very welcoming, so I suspect they would have honored it. It's just a shame the it was such a 180 from the deliciousness of the gingerbread. But at least we had 1 piece of bread pudding vs. 12 gingerbread people!

All the Tampa residents who have been around a while know this place. The café con leche is always a nice treat as are the sweets they offer from cakes, pastries to cookies. Many unique things to try. The big draw for many of us who live in Tampa is something like a cold pizza called "scacciata". I recommend you try at least one piece as it's really something worth checking out. A simple little thing but so good. Many of us in the area grew up with this at any social gathering you attended. You can buy entire trays or half trays for a crowd. The building is very easy to miss if you go. The exterior is a simple gray building at a busy intersection. Once you go in prepare to come out with more than you need because there are so many things, you'll want to try a few from each category. A nice hot cup of café con leche will give you a boost to get you home with your treats. Limited seating, best to plan to grab and go. Very polite staff and very clean interior.

I have been looking for a good cuban breakfast place due to my familiarity with South Florida cuban cuisine. Housewife Bakery & Cafe did not disappoint. Everything they had was exquisite and freshly made. Staff was very friendly and personable. This is definitely my new go to place for cuban breakfast. Also has a wide variety of desserts and baked goods that looked amazing. There will always be something new to try when I come back.

This a staple in Tampa. I hadn’t been here in years so I stopped in for a breakfast sandwich, cafe con leche and some pastries. Everything was amazing. They have some of the best desserts I’ve ever had, guava cheese pastries, macaroons, cannolis, yummy!! If you live in Tampa and have never come here, I recommend you do!

Those that already know this place but haven’t been here since COVID will be pleasantly surprised by the makeover. From the outside you will notice right away the cute murals on both sides of the building, including a photo spot where you can stick your face in a cutout of a gingerbread man! The selection inside is expanded. There’s a hot case with a variety of empanadas, several lunch sandwich selections and the HUGE variety of cookies and desserts! Get yourself a cafe con leche & bring your family or office the pizza scacciatta. I have ordered catering for the office many times in the past. I’m glad they are still around.

Wonderful selection of American and Spanish pastries, cakes, and cookies. Beautiful occasional cakes for order. Also has some wrapped sandwiches like Cubans, Tuna and Egg as well as finger foods like croquettes, stuffed potatoes, and different kinds of empanadas. Clean, modern woods in indoor eating area. Prices are worth it with the quality, taste and size of the portions.

It is refreshing to see how this place has withstood the test of time! It seems like yesterday I was picking up my wedding cake from here a little over 12 years ago when I tied the knot with my late husband. Now that I'm with current husband, we look forward to trying other delectables calling our names from the glass cases!

Edit: after talking to the manager on the phone they said they bake everything Daily and do not freeze over night… so I think their display case is not properly sealed or it is left open through out the day which makes it taste funky. Short summary: Everything looks beautiful! They have some really good items some I would say are best in Tampa But some items are so bad I’ve wasted more than half a box throwing away. **DO NOT order anything with hard icing on it. It tastes very funky and I gave my family those items and imediately their faces scrunched in disgust. Those items are old and the icing absorbs the smell of the bakery making it taste funky** Long summary: I’ve been here 3 times. The first time I bought a smiley face cookie because it was so cute and I wasn’t expecting much so I didn’t think anything when the icing tasted weird.the cookie itself was moist but it has a good crunch because of the icing and if you could get past the weird taste it was a pretty good cookie! The second box I ordered a few days ago and got tiramisu, ricotta cheese slice, ding dong, lazy Susan and another caramel wafer cake with this cute cherry on it. I was amazed by how pretty everything was! I started with the tiramisu and it was perfect! I took it home and put espresso on top and had a wonderful time with it. It made me so sad because I started with the best item and as I kept going it just got worse and worse. The caramel wafer cake and the ricotta slice were very hard but none the less tasted good. I’ve eaten older things so honestly for the price I paid it was okay. The ding dong and the lazy Susan both had very hard icing on it and as soon as I dug in, I got that nasty taste from the sugar cookies! It was really gross and I threw it away. Today I stopped by because I was craving tiramasu. It’s my favorite cake at any location I just love it! So today I got that and two cakes next to in in the display counter. After eating them I realized it’s not entirely just the hard icing. I think something is wrong with their display counter or they just aren’t selling good so a lot of their stuff is old. On every occasion the tiramasu was good but I highly reccomend they reduce their menu and just stick to things they sell best so that they don’t develop a weird taste.

My mother brought me here as a child in the early seventies regularly. The Housewife Bakery is still here today serving the best pastries cookies and eclaire's, they have rven even got sandwiches and breakfast sandwiches they have awesome bread and even scacciattica pizza. There is not anything to NOT love about this place. Order ahead and by the platter also available for catering and special events every day.

A really wonderful bakery. The people are friendly and the pastry are fantastic. If it tells you anything they make your cannoli fresh when you order it. Easily on par with my favorite New York canoli. They have a really big selection and everything I've had has been delicious. I just left and it was so good I'll be going back for breakfast tomorrow.

Housewife and the new owners are absolutely wonderful and so so kind. My family has gone to Housewife since before I was born and will continue to go. They made my wedding cake on short notice for my small ceremony due to COVID-19 and it was the BEST cannoli filling and almond cake I have ever had. I can't wait to have it again at the big ceremony next year. Their empanadas are an AMAZING addition to the menu and the best in Tampa, along with their stuffed potatoes and the addition of delicious Argentinian desserts. I love that the menu has expanded to include so much variety!!

Really enjoyed it. Soooooo many goodies to choose from, you just have to keep going back to try them all. My beef empanada was outstanding, as was my cuban sandwich. The prices are very reasonable and there are daily specials (see photo). I had an empanada, a slice of lemoncello cake, and the sandwich special...cuban, soda, chips, and choice of cookie (dozens to choose from) and my total was only $12.82 (04/2019)

This bakery has been in Tampa on the same corner for several decades. They may not have the reputation of Alessi's or Wright's, but they are good and dependable. The have a good assortment of baked goods. They also have a good Cuban sandwich. And they have lasagna. They have good, courteous service. The chocolate chip cookies my son and I had were pretty good, but everything else has been good. To top it off, their prices are reasonable.

I have been coming here since I was a little girl I've seen some changes they used to have all kinds of breads now they just have Cuban. I still have all my favorites like cookies and pastries cream horns I love and eclairs! The typical Sicilian pizza yum! And some hot items they now have tables were you can sit inside. They have a good lunch special comes with sandwich, chips, drink and a dessert. For under $ 9 ️ ❤️

My husband found this place on the way home from work and would always bring me sweets (chocolate croissants or pecan bar) both are super good. After going myself, first the service is amazing, and second the limoncello and cuernitos are SO SO SO GOOD. The limoncello was moist and the the flavor was not overwhelming nor was it too sweet. Their breakfast options looked yummy although I haven’t tried yet :-)

I bought one of the huge cream horns because that is my favorite for the longest time and I was very disappointed that it was dry kind of crunchy in the filling was too sweet not actually like cream horn and I also got whoopie pies in the cookies were hard as rocks

Beef empanada & oatmeal cookie was great. However the guy in the back that was rolling out dough wasn’t wearing a mask. I seen chefs working on the grill, heat all in there face over at ulele and multiple places wearing a mask. He needs to wear his mask! He can be asymptotic.

Best bakery ever! Okay, I may be a little bias. My mom would bring me here often as a kid. I always got the decorated gingerbread man (it's the best, and I've tried a few). Even though I may only come by once in a while now, nothings changed... I'm still going to get that gingerbread man! Plus more of course. Today we got an empanada (baked not fried) and a meat pastry. Both great. I love the homemade taste to everything. The staff are very attentive, answer all questions, and I'm always greeted with a smile. Conveniently located on the corner with lots of parking. They have sandwiches as well all those yummy pastries, cakes, and cookies. Definitely come check it out for yourself!

This place hasn't changed in 30 years and neither has the prices. Original Cuban sandwhiches with all the fixings are still just $3.50. Scacciata pizza and a plethora of delectable desserts are equally great bargains. This is the best place to get custom birthday cakes for large parties or intimate gatherings.

UPDATE: Still a great bakery with an excellent assortment of breads, cookies, pastries and cakes. Plus, they now have a small café' area - stop in and relax for a cup of coffee, breakfast sandwich or lunch. Some of the best pastries in Tampa. The guava and cheese pastry is to die for and if you catch it when it just gets prepared you will never forget the savory taste. A great variety of cakes, cookies and pastries. A mix of American, Italian and Cuban pastries really sets this bakery apart from some of the others. They also have breakfast and lunch sandwiches so you can even stop by to satisfy your appetite.

Amazing! I went to several bakerys looking for the perfect bday cake for my 8 yr old princess who decided she wanted a shopkins cake. No one could make me the cake webwere looking for they all wanted to make the cake and add the toys. Well I went to housewife and the baker said she could make no problem. On my way to pick up cake i was nervous that cake wouldnt be as i envisioned and to my surprise it was perfect exactly what I asked for. It was a success and then when we finally cut it! It was perfect fresh moist tastes as it was just out of the oven id give 50 stars. I tell everyone this story! Hats off to this baker!

Personally, I opted for the Chorizo sandwich, I asked for the bread to be separated from the filling, and it resulted in a magnificent chorizo and cheese tortilla with the toasted buttered bread on the side. It was simply delicious. I will certainly repeat my experience soon.
