Yum! The onion rings were amazing and they were bigger than the palm of my hand. I had the blackened grouper sandwich which was also very good. They could definitely improve by having a better quality bun. A bit pricey but I guess that's what you expect when you're eating fresh fish on the beach.

Here in town to visit sisters. Our concierge at our hotel recommended this place. We had scallops and shrimp dinners. Outstanding! Best fries ever! Our seafood was grilled but you can get it a number of ways. Staff was laid back and friendly. Made us feel like "a local"!

The fish spread should be the world famous dish! One of the best I’ve had. Full patio, inside but no wait seating at the bar. Had the spread, gator nuggets, grouper platter country fried-all very good. Came back a few days later and had the Krab cakes which I found to be flavorless and kind of mushy, Onion rings passing by smelled great! Great service! Very generous wine glass pours, local beer options. Accessible rest area.

Cute converted beach house with friendly service and fantastic food. Directly across the street from Madeira Beach this quaint restaurant is suited to meet your needs. Indoor dining, both upstairs and down or sit at their rooftop patio or right out front. We ordered the Gator Bites appetizer and it was outstanding! Golden brown on the outside and tender inside. I think next time we'll do both; the Gator and their Homemade Onion Rings (we saw them being delivered to a nearby table) they were enormous and looked amazing. My husband ordered a bowl of French Onion Soup and didn't talk to me until he had completely finished. His main dish was a seafood pasta with scallops and shrimp, there were no survivors. lol I had one of their specials, fried Cod with French Fries. Freshly caught, your choice of preparation (fried, grilled etc) and made to order. Everything was simply mouth watering and delicious. A truly fresh seafood restaurant with great service and that casual, beachy atmosphere we all crave.

Ordered take out and waited at the bar while the food was prepared. I LOVED watching the lightning/leafs game while enjoying a beer and classic rock surrounded by happy staff and happy customers. Onion rings are world class, with a light seasoned batter and the biggest rings I’ve ever seen. Captains plate shrimp were big fresh and juicy. We actually didn’t love the grouper sand which ( country fried style) - it was good but we enjoyed the captains plate and rings more. Great atmosphere. Thanks for a great experience.

Asked in a couple Facebook groups some recommendations on local seafood and this place was recommended by many. Absolutely delicious. I ordered the Shrimp & Scallops Platter (see photo). Also had a slice of their key lime pie which was quite good. Would have preferred a graham cracker crust over the chocolate crust but was still great. Will very likely be back.

Went here thinking all the seafood places in the area were good. This one excelled. The fried grouper was sensational. My son got mussels and Alfredo and he was licking the plate. At first I had my doubts as we were the only ones there, but we got surrounded quickly. Now we know why. Amiable staff and they were quite attentive.

This place is great. The staff is amazing and the food is amazing. There is not a full bar so no mixed drinks so that’s why no 5 stars. Their Captains platter is amazing. We will definitely be back.

Ioved the low-key, laid back atmosphere. The drinks were cold, which is exactly what you need after a hot day at the beach, and the food was delicious and generously portioned! I could've made two sandwiches with the huge grouper fillet I was served.

Our group of 3 each ordered the Grouper sandwich, without the bun, two fried, one grilled. We shared a small onion ring, which was plenty. And bonus, the Grouper was caught that morning! The waitress was efficient and friendly. I can hardly wait to return and enjoy some more of that wonderful food!

On vacation, heard alot of good things. We went for dinner unfortunately out of gator bites but thats okay. Onion rings were pretty good and a side cesar salad which was also great. Ordered lightly blackened chicken sandwhich, chicken fingers for kids and hubby got the captains platter. Laid back atmosphere and very friendly! Great place.

Food was delicious, there was a little bit of a wait but it was worth it. The server was helpful and patient while we decided what to order. The atmosphere had a typical seafood restaurant vibe, was on the smaller side inside.

Dockside Dave's is a local's favorite and when I have people visit from up north, this is one of the first places that I take them to. The employees are long time regulars and the place is just a local history lesson for the Madeira Beach area. If you leave Dockside Dave's hungry, it's your own fault. From the onion rings to the grouper sandwich, there is no way you can go wrong. Whether sitting at the bar for a quick lunch or sitting on one of the outside decks, it's definitely an enjoyable experience. I am a Calamari connoisseur and there is not a better place in the Tampa Bay area to get it fried just right to where it is not chewy like bubble gum. The pic of the onion rings is a little light from the 6 mile ride home, and thats a small order. Fish & chips and gator bites plus grouper bites lived up to my expectations too.

First meal we had here. Took the recommendation for the grouper. It was huge. Excellent roll. Perfectly fried. Made 2 meals. The kicker was the perfectly fresh tomato with it and dousing it in their horsey sauce. Wasn’t a fan of the tartar sauce. Currently leaving vacation tomorrow and trying to negotiate one more grouper sandwich on Labor Day. Would mean leaving my husbands family party early but.. gotta be done

This is the place where you can get real Grouper and a fresh fish dinner from right off the boats nearby. We went for a birthday and a must have was the fried clam dinner. Best and only one around. The clam strips are tender!! They have a good selection and have great fries. The seafood soup is very good. A side salad selection contains fresh cut romaine lettuce, cucumber & brocolli. Their Cole slaw is wonderful and handmade. The draft beer is a very reasonable price. Eat inside or out. Nice colorful bar area.

French Onion Soup. This was really good. Kudos! The Mahi was a little smaller than normal but turned out well. Fish & Chips, you definitely get your money's worth. My Mom couldn't eat it all.

Can't say enough great things about Dockside Dave's! It's a comfortable local bar with some outdoor seating, but the big draw is the freshest fish one can imagine. The grouper sandwich is (rightly) said to be the best in the area. It was stupendous! The beer is cold and the ambience is friendly. The fish comes in daily from local captains. How can you lose?

We LOVE Dockside Dave's! However; its been a long time since we've been able to get a seat outside, understandably so.... it's a great place! We did get an outside table this past Saturday evening.Be sure to take a gander at their chalk board of fresh catches. My husband tried the fresh Sheepshead a loved it. I can't avoid their famous Grouper sandwich 😋We shared the marvelous tomatoes, enjoyed some brew and took the Sammies home. Thank you Dockside Dave's.....your "team" works so well together, I noticed everyone pitching in.... our food and dining experience was flawless!

I ordered the scallops. Wow! Incredible portions. 15.00 will worth it. 9 large scallops packed with flavor. The service was incredible. Every person on days was courteous, kind and proficient. After 2 years being here I've never tried this place. Finished the entire thing myself, that good. Forgot to take photo before this time. Lol I will return weekly!

This is the only restaurant i have said " lets go back there"!! Love the fried mushrooms, the breading you use is perfect! It makes a huge difference. Every thing we have tried is fresh and delicious. Service has always been great! Highly recommend!

Great food. Great, casual vibe. The waitstaff was the most energetic and friendly bunch of people I can remember at a restaurant. You can see in to part of the kitchen, and everyone I saw was seriously hustling. You'll give them your money, and you'll feel good about doing it. If you're looking for a gig at a restaurant, you should go work here. They'll teach you how to do it right.

The absolute best Fried Grouper Sandwich you will ever have! Oder the huge onion rings and waffle fries too! It’s always our first stop when we get to St. Pete! Update: (Sept. 2022) Another great meal as always! We were sad to find out they weren’t serving their delicious waffle fries though. Our waitress said they had become too expensive. 😭

Delicious as always. Grouper is always good. Onion rings are 100%worth it. I usually don't eat fried food but here I order the onion rings every time. The hamburger is really good too if you're not in the mood for fish.

I was told by a couple locals while working in the area about Dave's and I'm glad I thanked him. It was great. Lynn was nice and attentive. I had the Captain's platter heavily blackened. They will cook to your liking. The scallops and shrimp were tender, which is hard to do while still blackening and the Grouper was flakey. I must say I was so surprised by the fresh crispy steamed veggies. I mean they were on point too. This is a small local place ran by locals you must hit up. I was expecting good but I got great. Definitely a 5 star place for me. Check them out if you love seafood, giant onion rings and fresh steams veggies. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Had the grouper sandwich blackened. Way spicier than anticipated but flavor was good. Staff was friendly and got us In quickly even though there was a wait list. (We waited our turn, didn’t skip line). Maybe a little over priced but your on vacation so who cares.

Yum. Grouper sandwich was yummy. My mom had the be fried, I had the blackened. Both were good, but hers was better. Service was fine. Only complaint is that a draft beer comes in a very small plastic glass. 6-8 oz, guessing.

Best batter fried grouper sandwich ever. Very chill/upbeat friendly atmosphere. Dave’s over Crabby’s easily at a fraction of the cost. Also, the best U peel and eat shrimps ever. Super fresh seafood. Staff is very attentive and work very well together to make sure you receive top notch service. Family owned! Also, Leenie was awesome!

Haven't been there in about 4 years. Was not disappointed! I had the blackened grouper sandwich and the size of the fish dwarfed the bun. Was just excellent. Miss the waffle fries however!

Tried this place while staying in Indian rocks beach for a week and it was decent. The actually entree was great but the shecrab soup wasn't that good but everything else we got was delicious. So from my experience, I'd pass on the soup. I got to the fish and chips and it was good. This place has dockside in the name but it's not best any dock, but a block from the beach.

Service was very good, Brian, our waiter was excellent. The food was ok, my burger came out medium (red inside) when I ordered medium well. They made another, fixing the mistake. The cod fish and fries tasted like it was cooked in very old oil. This was our 1st visit from out of state.

Grouper sandwich was enough for two people! It was huge. The grouper cakes were huge and really tasty. The tomato slices for appetizers were enough for a whole meal and they're shipped in from Ruskin, FL. Best I've had down here.

The Caribbean Grouper dish is so good! A bit salty but the seasoning is so appetizing. Very generous on the grouper bites too! Also loved the garlic bread!

Been coming here overtime and I can say that the ownership and staff are very pleasent and make your visit feel welcoming. Now the food is outstanding! Fresh and made so tasty. I get the shrimp meal or the shrimp and scallops meal and allot of there appatizers, and all of them are outstanding! My friend always comes with me and she is very picky like myself and again she is very happy with the food she orders as well. It is somewhat higher in price, but it's worth it in so many ways. Like I say you go out to eat than you pay for what you want and this resturant is worth every penny!! And with everything going up it is happening everwhere. But it's worth paying for the price at this resturant. Also very laid back and relaxing!

A really nice place. Great service even though the place was packed. We were inside, and the outdoor seating looked great. Onion rings are to die for! So are the waffle fries. My burger was simply ok, and not on par with everything else we had. The Mrs had crab cakes, a little over fried but she said they were really good. The premeal fish spread was really good. Definitely a place you should try.

Wonderful little place! Staff are super nice and helpful. This was our first visit and boy are we kicking ourselves for not trying it sooner. Fried Mushrooms appetizer was plentiful, enough for two people to split and each get plenty. Blackened Chicken Philly was great. Also had Dave's burger, cooked just right. Of our two servers, I only caught one of their names. Kelsey was super nice and helpful. Can't wait to go back again!

Food was absolutely amazing! Love the dive feeling. Waitress was great. The main point is the freshness of the seafood. It tasted as if it was caught that day. Waffle fries were crisp (try the horseradish sauce with them 😋) Cole slaw was very solid. I suggest blackened style it lets the taste of the seafood shine!

Excellent food. Large portions. Food perhaps was a bit salty. Covid protocols appear pretty lax. Not much air movement inside, which is somewhat cramped. Waffle fries and onion rings were fabulous. Serving beer in a red solo cup wasn't the beat experience.

Grouper sandwich that can't be beat. It's caught fresh daily and larger than the bun. Comes prepared in many ways but I like Blackened or Fried. I have also yet to find better onion rings in the Tampa Bay area. Give it a shot you won't be disappointed.

I won't wax grandiloquent for this review, but I can proviso more puissantly purple prose upon request. First—for a Sunday, it was very relaxed, which is rare for a beachside restaurant, and that presented a solid opportunity to take it in without my anxiety going nuts (after 7pm on Sundays, maybe Mondays, for those who share that concern). The patio seating was comfortable - I recommend enjoying that while we're transitioning from Spring to Summer. Indoor seating is sparse by comparison, The food is very nicely prepared, and very affordable to boot—I definitely enjoyed the Cod & Chips (about 1lb. battered, fried cod and waffle fries), and would certainly try I again. I wanted to try the Grouper Bites and Onion Rings, but they were unavailable given the hour. Grouper items are very first come, first served when they're out of season anywhere, so missing out happens from time to time—a friend of mine got the last one for the evening, I highly recommend it. I don't think they airfry their dishes, but golly, they're neither too greasy nor too dry, which is very impressive. The menu's not too crowded, but there's an entrée for most patrons *who are without* any delicate dietary needs on this menu (I'm intolerant to gluten myself, c'est complicated)—most of the food items include some key allergens (wheat, milk, fish), but that's the hard biz. Centrally located, walking distance from the shoreline (Beach access is right across the street), decent selection of beer, wine, cider, and spirits that's pretty pleasing to the palate (key lime apple cider by 3 Sisters is a personal favorite, major kudos on that seasonal selection). Nothing betrays the overall dockside theme, as there's no pretense there to speak of. It feels nice eating there, and the waiting staff are all very friendly & affable - it's easy to become a regular here. I've lived here my entire life, but I can't say I've seen everything. Dockside Dave's is definitely not a one-time only establishment, newcomers are sure to want to return for anything from planned family outings to breezy, beach lunches when spontaneity meets that craving for your favorite Golden Tile sandwich (and maybe a cold brew to wash it down).

Outdoor Survivalists

Though my wife had visited Dockside Dave's at their prior location on St Pete Beach, neither of us has ever visited this location. This was my first time eating here, and I was extremely impressed with much of what I ate. We ordered Clam Chowder and Crab Cakes for appetizers. I ordered the Shrimp & Scallop Martinique, my wife had the Char-Grilled Grouper, and my 4 year old just wanted the Waffle Fries. Both the Clam Chowder and the Crab Cakes were literally the BEST we have ever had ANYWHERE! There was absolutely nothing different that we would have changed about either of them! My wife's Char-Grilled Grouper was cooked to perfection! I had a little bite and it was almost like eating lobster. Amazing! My Shrimp & Scallop Martinique was "ok". While there was only 4 large shrimp and 4 very large scallops, and they were cooked to perfection as well... I think I was somewhat disappointed in the sauce that it was all cooked in. I guess I expected it to be more flavorful, like everything else... but it was somewhat bland and tasteless. I think with more garlic, possibly parmesan and/or a creamy sauce with more flavor, it would've been perfect IMHO. Again, maybe I ordered the wrong meal and expected something else that wasn't that. I won't hold it against them and intend on bringing our family back there and I'll be trying a different meal.

Service, Food, Atmosphere are all stellar. Our waiter was okay. The hostess was great wish he was our waiter lol he was an older man with white hair I believe anyway had a great convo with him and he made my party and I feel welcomed. The grouper sandwich was really good just needed tad bit more kick to it other than that it was grilled to perfection.

This place was an amazing find. Seated immediately for a group of 7 people on a Friday night. The food was top notch. The waitress gave recommendations. I'm glad I took them because I couldn't have been happier with my choices. The fresh Grouper was to die for. Even better, the food came out fast and hot in just minutes after we ordered. You will not be disappointed! Had the Grilled Grouper Sandwich. Served with lettuce, tomato, onion and Sweet Pickles! Great service, very attentive. Following guidelines by keeping tables 6 feet or more apart and promptly cleaning when guests leave. Also making sure everyone wears a mask when walking about in the restaurant. Lovely setting across from the beach. Inside and outside seating.

From out of town and my daughter found this place on line, which was a great find! When ordering from the menu, we saw Alligator Bites and we had to try them. They were a bit chewy but good. They come with “Tangy Swamp Sauce”, which was good. I ordered the jumbo shrimp with double fries. The shrimp was excellent! They have a variety of ways they cook the shrimp. I chose fried in beer batter and it was very tasty! My wife had shrimp scampi, which was good. Hard to go bad when it is smothered in butter; however, my jumbo shrimp were better. I thought the fries where good and glad I got both my sides as fries. Kids had chicken finger appetizer with side order of fries and a hamburger. They enjoyed both.

This is definitely hands down the best grouper sandwich and onion rings on the gulf coast! The service and sauces for dipping are amazing. I can not say enough good things about our lunch and look forward to visiting on our next vacation. Great ambiance- very welcoming. Sandwich was better than Frenchy's and there is free parking!

We came here on a Tuesday night during spring break, we waited about 25 minutes for a table for 4. It cost about 20$ a person. The grouper bites and the grouper sandwich were phenomenal! Perfectly breaded, 1/2 pound, yummy. I got coleslaw and a salad for sides and I was not impressed with either. We got onion rings to share and they were very big so took a minute to cool down but were also yum! My child got chicken fingers and they were perfectly done, no frills, delicious tenders. I highly recommend!

Our group of 6 came there last night around 7 and we sat outside for dinning. While most of our food was good, we did have to remind our server several time of our missing appetizers. The server told us they were short staffed and we're running out of sides. I found a large piece of plastic bag in my coleslaw but it was made right by the server. Otherwise it was an okay dinning experience for our first night of vacation.

Delicious seafood right by the beach! We had their famous grouper cooked in 3-4 different ways, and every way was delicious. I had the seafood gumbo soup which was also great. Definitely worth going to. I'll be going back!

We eat here every time we're in the area. The food and service are excellent. No, it's not fancy by any stretch of the imagination, it's a basic beach bar and grill. But the food is ALWAYS good, and has been for years and years. Don't miss it if you're hungry in Madeira Beach!

Excellent fresh fish prepared to your order. Battered, lightly battered, lemon peppered, blackened, lightly blackened to name a few. Grouper, shrimp, scallops are all on the menu along with pasta options if desired. Recommend arriving early (prior to 5:30 pm) as it quickly gets crowded.

The gator bites we delicious! They were tender, yet crispy! The swamp sauce that came with it was also good. (Spicy and tangy) I got the clam strip dinner. They give you a ton of clam strips! The were nice and crispy and amazing! The fresh vegetable medley was definitely fresh and perfectly cooked! My husband got the grouper. It was very tender, flaky and flavorful! We stopped in for an early dinner yesterday and it was awesome! Not only was the food great but our waitress Kelsey was even better! Our one and a half year old daughter has an ANA dairy allergy and going out to eat is not always easy because dairy seems to be in everything. Kelsey was super helpful, not only checking for us but bringing the packages/ingredients out for us to check. The New England Clam Chowder is probably one of the best I've tasted. They love to push their seafood bisque but I think the chowder is much better. Although this is a seafood joint, they have one of the best burgers around. Have had their fish spread and grouper bites. Both very good. I did order the garden salad with the blackened grouper and the fish was overcooked. The ladies that work here are very chirpy and are good at what they do. They all work as a team so you will not hear, I'm sorry, but I'm not your waitress. They all are happy enough to get you whatever it is you need.

I think they were a little bit overwhelmed with our family of 8. Our main waiter was quick and great though. My first experience with grouper, I'm not a fan personally. I like my Mahi! The onion rings were massive and fantastic, the fish dip was perfect, a nice appetizer platter for 2-3. The captains platters looked fantastic.

Reccomend this busy little joint. Been trying to go all week we've been down here. Hit a point on my own I could get in. Had mussels and the grouper sandwich. Some of the muscles were very salty but overall they were good. The grouper was excellent. Staff was friendly and made sure I was taken care of. Recommend!

Every restaurant on the beach has Grouper. Dockside Dave's just does it better. This place should be on Diners drive ins and Dives. Yes, it's a tiny hole in the wall dive. Dockside Dave's was one of the best places I ate out at while I was in Madeira Beach for my stay. I very much enjoyed the food that we had. I had a burger and my sister had the crab cakes and clam chowder soup. While my dad had the buffalo shrimp. We all shared our food and I couldn't find anything wrong with any of them. My burger was very well made with very fresh ingredients. Along with that the waffle fries were a perfect touch. The clam chowder soup was one of the best I have had by far. With the buffalo shrimp was zesty and ranch-y making it a perfect combination to have. If you are staying in Madeira Beach or near John's Pass I highly recommend that you try Dockside Dave's. The customer service was amazing and the people were very sweet. The only thing I would have to complain about is how small departments base is that how compacted is. Other than that you have to try this place.

On vacation from Ohio. We had walked past the night before but had already eaten. The restaurant was packed. The food smelled delicious. So my family decided we would go back the next night to eat. Our waitress was Sabrina. She was so friendly and when we asked what she recommended to eat she told us about several different dishes. She described the food spot on. We had the loaded lobster fries, the nacho’s and shrimp. All delicious appetizers. We each ordered something different for dinner. From the crab cakes, to the Reuben, a burger and the steak pasta. All where absolutely delicious. We had the Key Lime pie for dessert. Sabrina our waitress checked on us often and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely go back again before we leave. I tried the Gator bits which were good and the service was nice. I ordered the Martinique and did not enjoy the amount of sauce, and the addition of the breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs clumped badly in the sauce. Also I had scallops and I believe they were not real ones but rather skate or ray. The way they were cut were lopsided and the texture was off. I am local and not sure I would go back.

I found this out after bringing everything back to our place to eat, so couldn't go back to exchange. Their onion rings are huge but also very greasy. I had the blackened grouper meal that was very good but seemed a little small for costing $22. My companions had the fried colossal shrimp and blackened scallops, they both said it was very good. I asked for my waffle fries to be well done crispy, they were not. We asked for water with lemon, no lemon came in the glasses or on the side. We also had the cold pick-n-peel shrimp that wasn't cold, kinda warm, I guess they had cooked them not too long ago. I never complain to servers, maybe she was too busy to pay attention to details or just didn't want to do it. Idk, food was pretty good, not up to all the hype and expectations the reviews give Dockside Dave's and what I had hoped for this dinner for my daughter's birthday.

They were out of scallops and oysters. So we ordered the shrimp scampi with pasta, my sin said it was good. Husband had the mah Mahi blackened with waffle fries he liked it. I ordered the onion rings, those were good too. I also ordered the crab cakes. I had to scoop out the inside because the outside was so overdone and greasy i couldn't eat it. The service was good and fairly fast. The fried crab cakes seemed like it was cooked in old grease.

I have been coming to this place for the most amazing black grouper sandwich for years. Always super fresh and the grouper filet is twice the size of the bun. It's hard to get full on grouper because most places hardly give you any, but Dockside Dave's piles it on. I've been to Dockside Dave's atleast 5 times now. Every experience was relatively the same. The service was good, the restaurant is pleasant. The food however... Is Phenomenal. Over my visits I have had multiple different items off the menu. And every single item was prefect. The fried Mushrooms were the best I've ever had... Ever. Great quality mushrooms, fried perfectly in a delicious, light batter that coats every inch of the mushrooms in flavor. I highly recommend this place I'd you're in the area.

Have been coming here for years. It's hard not to order the grouper sandwich. The part that doesn't fit it the bun is as big as a serving at many restaurants. Have always been impressed with their big red tomato slices that come on the sandwiches. Their onion rings are the best I've ever had, but you have to try the waffle fries too. Get the smoked fish spread for an appetizer.

My husband and I ate here for dinner. They had so many good appetizers we decided to just get appetizers and no entree. We got gator tail, grouper bites, onion rings, fried mushrooms and 2 side salads. It was alot of food-we brought home a box. Ron was super nice as he seated us and was very accommodating finding us a table, as I didnt want to sit at the bar. Our waitress, however, was not very friendly and seemed rushed and bothered by our existence. Other staff was helpful and friendly when she wasn't around. We would go back to try their entrees. But fingers crossed would hopefully get a better waitress.

Amazing! We had a great lunch here on Labor Day! More than anything else though, the service was more than 5 stars. The staff went above and beyond with every customer. They were so happy and on top of it. I've never written a Google Review and my bf and I both agreed we had to. There was one server in particular...didn't catch her name but long red hair. Seriously just move her up to management if she's not already. WOW! She is what great customer service looks like.

Very walkable from surrounding hotels and rentals. If there is a line... it is WORTH the wait. This place is famous for their Fried Grouper Sandwiches! All of the grouper sandwiches are great but the fried grouper sandwiches are excellent, huge and delicious! Great place on Gulf Boulevard with outdoor patio seating, never to crazy busy. Try going on the week days instead of the weekends because sometimes there is a slight wait on the weekends. Holy moly if you like onion rings this is the place for you!!!!!! Expanded seating out front and enjoy the weather or get you some air conditioning inside. The fried vegetables are also amazing. Fast service, we didn't have to wait long at all for our food. Prices very reasonable

I love going to Dockside Dave's. It just feels like the beach to me. Very casual outside and inside seating. I get the shrimp and scallops, country style fried. With waffle fries and coleslaw. I like the big bottles of tartar sauce and cocktail sauce, though I have to test the red bottles to make sure I don't put ketchup on my shrimp. The seafood always has the best flavor and it seems they know how to source the product.

Good little beach dive. We came with a party of 8 and there wasn't tables big enough to sit us together. The inside of the restaurant is pretty small. The outside patio is bigger but right next to the main road. Everyone was relatively happy with their food. I got the scallop platter, lightly blackened, and it was delicious. Great scallops! My husband and brother in law got the captains platter. The fish was a little overcooked, along with the shrimp. Overall, very good and I would recommend. I just wouldn't come with more than 4 people or expect a super upscale restaurant. All waitress's did have a mask. The menus were the same as before COVID- not paper or electronic. Meaning... Everyone is touching the same menu. The staff was friendly.

This is a favorite classic beach dive. Everyone is welcome. Food is dependable and good. Unigue choice of battered or country fried. Country fried is light and crisp. There is a wide variety of food. The fried veggies are special as well as onion rings, fish and calamari. You really need more stomachs when you go here, so take friends and share an appetizer. Indoor and outdoor dining. There is a wait for dinner. If you dont mind sitting outside you will get seated faster.

This place is surprisingly deceptive. I was scared approaching it, walking into, and sitting down. I was almost convinced it was going to be a horrible dining experience. I can't remember the last time I was that wrong about a restaurant. The food was incredible, all of it. The fish and shrimp were perfect, in all the various ways we ordered them. My only gripe was the climate was not controlled very well, it was humid. I highly recommend eating here at least once on your trip. I will definitely be coming back and spreading the word. Grade A seafood. Thank you!

Probably a tourist trap according to locals, but since I’m new to St. Pete I really don’t care. It’s clearly a popular place as there was a 30 minute wait when we arrived. The interior is pretty “worn”, but honestly I was there for the grouper not the ambiance. They do have outdoor seating as well as indoor. The waitstaff was quick and cordial. We each got the blackened grouper sandwich with waffle fries and coleslaw. The blackening wasn’t overpowering and the fish was exquisite! Not only was the fish perfectly cooked, it was a large portion. The waffle fries were perfectly crispy too. The coleslaw was average. We all agreed that the grouper was worth the wait. I’d absolutely go back and try it again.

We did carryout dinners due to Covid and were really impressed. I had the shrimp and scallop combo lemon peppered on the grill, my husband had deep fried shrimp. The scallops were melt-in-your- mouth tender and well seasoned. The shrimp were great too, both the grilled and deep fried. We both had waffle fries which were great, other sides (coleslaw and rice pilaf not so much). But the key lime pie! Ah! To die for! Fabulous, quite possibly the best I’ve ever had!!!! Go there, you will be happy!

Tried to call ahead to make a to go order but the phone rang busy for 12 minutes. Finally got through, was put on hold for 10 minutes until I hung up upon my arrival at the restaurant. Placed my order, safe location, noticed every other table did not have chairs, and finally got my fried shrimp and grouper sandwich. I rushed home, but found the batter on the shrimp was soggy. Nice shrimp, but we took the batter off. The grouper was good. They added a bigger bun, didn't like that, took off the top. They forgot my come slaw and only put in 1/2 small container of cocktail sauce. I've had much better meals there, but this was my first pandemic take out.

Although not all the food was as good as I was hoping, I’m going to give this place a 5 star because: 1. The French fries were great 2. Coleslaw was amazing 3. Atmosphere was 10 stars. Everyone was joking and talking to each other, friendly people everywhere, people saying hi and making conversation with us (strangers from out of state) and I could not even blame it on alcohol. It was way too early in the day to be a factor; I think just a really friendly bunch ... including Austin (who was quick and efficient with our orders)

I've tried many a grouper sandwich over the years but none come close to the deliciousness of Dave's. They're also reasonably priced and the service is always fast and friendly. If you're in the Tampa Bay area do yourself a favor and get to Dockside Dave's.

Wonderful local restaurant with a low stress feel. Yes its summer 2020 so be pleasantly supprised to see masks being worn by staff, tables are cleaned, etc. Their food hits the spot after a long day on the boat, beach, or hotel and you can leave feeling full but not overwhelmed. My favorite is the grouper, with 5 or 6 different ways to have it. The onion-rings are great. The bisque is alive. Even the standard rice pilaf is not standard. Great stop. This is one of the many local.places which takes their patrons' safety seriously - from the ample parking to the food prep.

I had the scallops country fried, and I think they were the biggest hit at the table. The fish dip was fine I have had better in the area but everything else was pretty good. grouper sandwiches fried seemed to be liked better than how they blackened them. The Cole slaw no one liked, so maybe it was a poor batch, just really tasteless. We had an awesome server and a nice night, 3 star is because some things were very good but others not so much.

VERY rough around the edges but that is part of the charm of this place. Get there early or you may not get a parking spot and you'll stand in line (literally) for a table. We've been here a week and this was the best meal we've had. Buffalo shrimp are no joke! Pretty spicy but delicious! Had the Captain's Platter which was a filet of fresh grouper, four scallops, four shrimp (all prepared how you like them i.e. char grilled, blackened, deep fried, etc...) with two sides. It was amazing! Also, don't leave without the key lime pie with a chocolate crust!

Our order was taken and our meals were delivered quickly, which was surprising as it was very busy. The food portions are very generous and our waitress was terrific. It's not fancy, but overall we had a great meal, great service and will be going back again very soon.

First, this place was very nice. It’s your typical beach town family owned restaurant but there is nothing typical about this place and that’s a good thing. The staff was courteous and attentive. We enjoyed the food very much. Try the alligator! We sat in the covered porch section of the restaurant as we could easily pull our travel stroller with our toddler in it right up to the table. The waitress loved her so much that she had the owner come out to meet her, chatting with us for 10-15 minutes, very family friendly. The Corona’s were cold and refreshing; the Salad had crisp lettuce and perfectly cooked salmon while my trapper fried fish was so tasty I didn’t need any type of dipping sauce. The alligator appetizer was my favorite of this meal. Even my daughter loved it. The only unsatisfactory part of the restaurant is that we only visited once. The value when compared to some of the other restaurants a little north was awesome. If I lived close by this would probably be my regular place.

Stop looking at reviews and just go here. My girlfriend and I are new to the area and were just looking for a place to eat after a day at the beach. We went to Dockside Daves and sat outdoors. It was a small place with little atmosphere, but we care about food above all. We ordered onion rings and grouper sandwiches, as they said they were famous for it. They definitely deserve the fame! The grouper was cooked perfectly and the blackened seasoning was perfect. The battered onion rings were unique and you could tell that it was made from scratch. The staff are incredibly nice as well.

Serving sizes exceeded what was expected. We ordered fish and chips. We were served 3 fairly large portions of fish with a large amount of waffle fries. The food was fresh but quite greasy (which should be expected.) The atmosphere seemed to cater more towards a bar rather than a beach side restaurant. Our party of 4 cost nearly $70.

$8 for a not-very-good glass of wine was disappointing. The bun on my chicken sandwich was a bit soggy. Fries were good and crunchy. Grouper sandwich was just ok. Tartar sauce not very flavorful nor was the coleslaw. But we'll try them again.

Food was excellent. I got buffalo shrimp and fries to snack on. I have had there famous grouper sandwich on another visit and it was great. It was a huge piece of fish that hung out of the bun. It's a small place that fills up fast so you might be sitting outside. After the sun goes down, it's not too bad though. I would recommend it and would go back any time.

Was on our way to Friendly Fish, but they charge for parking. Sorry, but I don't pay for parking to be able to pay for dinner. Turned around and ended up at Dockside Dave's. Had alligator bites, crab cakes and fried oysters. While each was good we definitely had our favorite. I liked the crab cakes and fried oysters. My wife liked the alligator best. Between the two of us we were unable to finish everything. With just two appetizers and one entree we were full. The table next to ours had the fried calamari. That looked good too.

Was here for a late night meal and enjoyed it very much. The staff was very personalable and friendly. I had blackened grouper which was very good. The waitress made sure to let me know it was spicy which I didn't mind at all. I started with the Conch Fritters which were awesome especially the spicy sauce on the side. My regret was not having room for key lime pie which every raved about.

One of my favorite seafood meals is a fried fish sandwich and that's what I normally get when trying a new place. I had the fried grouper sandwich at Dockside Dave's and it was in the top three I've ever had. The fish was fresh she cooked perfectly. The batter was crisp and not greasy. I will definitely eat here again and will order the grouper sandwich.

Great location - right across the beach. Good service. We ordered crab cakes and received patties full of imitation crab meat. Wait what? This is right across the road from the gulf. The rest of our order wasn’t much better. We were really disappointed in the food.

Its not bad. Not a lot of seating, a little run down and don't sit out front unless you want to hear cars all the time. Staff was great. Food was pretty good. I had blackened shrimp pasta and beside the seasoning being too spicey or there was too much on it. It was pretty good. I was expecting the price to be a little better since online it was rated 2$ but more like 3$. Worth a try but probably not a repeat.

For 25% capacity. We didn't wait long it's amazing that each restaurant has differt safety measures in place. The grouper bites were overcooked,the mushrooms were delicious. The saddest of all was a plastic spoon for The French onion soup ,which as soon as spoon tip went in started to melt,and the fork for the deep fried mushrooms also warped. My suggestion if you aren't allowed to supply customers with silverware ,please don't serve these foods that require it. It's a waste of food. The Service was Excellent

They're handling the pandemic very serious and professionally, the staff provide masks for your group if you do not have one. I recommend the grouper sandwich and waffle fries! Probably not the most ideal time to eat out but they made me feel very safe when dining out!

Calamari was delicious, but I loved the onion rings even more. Homemade and oh so crispy. Prices not bad. Service was excellent. We sat outside and enjoyed the breeze. Parking was available behind the restaurant.

Smoked mullet dip is perfect! Grouper is fresh as it gets. Kitchen is on Florida time so don’t go if you are in a hurry. But absolutely worth the wait. As I was typing the hubby for his captains platter grilled. I tried grouper, scallops and jumbo shrimp. Was delish! Will be back on our next visit for sure!!

Wanted to give it 4.5 stars but of course we can’t. Five star service, price, menu selections. Also good was the onion rings, fried oysters, fried clam strips. Grouper sandwich was excellent but the grouper dinner was slightly over cooked this time. Very limited beer selection. Key lime pie was bland. Definitely recommend for a casual night out!

We ate here for lunch. My husband and I both had grouper sandwiches, his charbroiled and mine lemon peppered then broiled. Both were moist, meaty and flavorful. We ate a lot of seafood these last few days, and the food we had at Dockside Dave's was the best we had. The service was friendly and fast, too.

Went for an early lunch...about 11:20 am and not too crowded yet...but quite a few guests arrived after us. We were able to set outside and it felt very safe from Covid...wait staff always masked and seemed that table spacing had been increased vs: pre-covid. The food and service is still phenomenonal. I had my usual grouper sandwich and crinkle fries. Two thumbs way up !!! 👍👍

Wonderful atmosphere and the onion rings are TO DIE FOR. The people were friendly and it had a great local feeling to the place adding pictures of locals who fish around the area. The grouper sandwich was amazing and salivating as well. Overall the food was awesome and most of all FRESH!

Great food & service. Outside deck has heaters for chilly nights. The Grouper fritters appetizer is large enough for dinner, has just enough jalapeno to give a kick and is very good. Hubby had crab cake appetizer and said they were good too. Onion rings were a little too greasy.

My wife and I ate here over the weekend, and we couldn't have been happier with our experience! She enjoyed her fish tacos, and my grouper sandwich was probably the best I'd ever had. Our first time here. Soup and appitazers were excellent. Our fish entres were fair, fish was dry, and I question if the grouper I ordered was grouper, supposed to be black grouper. I've had it before at a different restaurant, no comparison. Cole slaw and wafflefries were great. Would go back again, but not order fish entres, only appitazers and soup.

Food was typical, service was good. What really bothered us was the grouper sandwich we ordered was $16.95 and it came with absolutely nothing else. No sides with it at that price at all. We ordered onion rings at $9 so pretty crazy orices. Hate al la cart places. Best to ask because a simple side that typically comes with a meal costs more.

Fantastic experience, My wife and I split a bowl of the homemade seafood bisque. It had plenty of fish,shrimp and scallops. We also ordered the smoked fish spread which was delicious and a nice portion.It came with fresh tomatoes, peppercinis, sweet pickles and a large portion of club crackers.We split the fried grouper sandwich which was a x-large portion which was fried to perfection. It came with tomato, lettuce and sweet pickles on the side. French fries are extra. The service was excellent. We will definitely be back again.

Came here a year ago to try gator with my kids. It was so good we couldn't wait to come back and have more. This year we also tried the grouper sandwich which was enormous and absolutely delicious. My wife had the chicken sandwich and couldn't stop raving about it. She said it's the best chicken sandwich she's ever had. Awesome food and excellent server.

We stopped in here for dinner and was not quite what we expected. It was a small spot but we sat outside on the deck. My wife got the French onion soup and a salad. She thought strangely that the soup had a fishy taste to it. I ordered the scallops. They were a good size and a good portion. They were cooked well but not seasoned at all. We got the impression that the server did not like us very much for some reason.

The food and service were very good. The staff was very friendly. I had a grouper sandwich was delicious. My only complaint was that most items are a la carte. Even the burger comes with nothing. Moreover, the prices were a bit steep in my opinion. I know it's on the beach and probably caters to tourists, but that seems unjust. There were lots of locals like myself, so I suppose we all pay.

I knocked it down one star because it seemed to take awhile to get my food. I admit, I was in a rush to get to an appt and didn't expect it to take as long as it did to get served. However, the cod and chips special was very good and I would definitely return for it.

This is our go to stop after boating every time we are in Madeira Beach. The grouper sandwich is not to be missed ever! The seafood bisque with that pink color unbelievably delicious and the pink color is the red wine!
