Everybody has that cousin who can cook. I mean COOK! Yeah, Al must have been THAT cousin who took his skills and said he was going to make some money from it too! Great BBQ spot, moist and properly smoked meats (chicken, turkey, beef, etc), delicious sides, and sweet team and lemonade that taste like THAT cousin did their thing! Great, friendly staff who are down to earth and fun. Word on the street, they also own a Soul Food restaurant not too far from this location. Good times, thanks “cousin”!

Great food and nice people taking care of customers. Get the bbq beans amazing. The collard greens are spicy, but worth the heat mmm. Bbq sauce has great flavor and it's nice local place to spend some time.

Really solid local barbeque. First, it passed that time-tested marker: parking lot full of pick-up trucks. First rate pulled pork, good sauce, delish old fashioned potato salad. Collards apparently very popular but throat-searingly hot ("very spicy" always sounds so friendly when you really mean "call fire rescue!"). Their "OMG chocolate cake" is made with Guinness...looked amazing!

Good Que vibe at this converted bungalow to smoked bbq joint. This joint is staffed by a great group of folks that love their job and BBQ service to the community. Gave the ribs, chicken, and sausage with potato salad and baked baked a try on this visit. The potato salad is straight up your mustard based 'tator salad with the beans being your standard sugar sweet baked beans. The smoked sausage is tender with an excellent flavor profile, except it's on the salty side. Would be a 5 star link with less sodium. The chicken has a smokey flavor profile which is what you would expect, but it was a tad on the dry side. To overcome the slight dryness a dab of the hot bbq sauce hit the spot. That was just enought to out the moisture upon the chicken and it also kicked the flavor profile up to be a solid 4 star though and leg. On that sauce note. The original is nice and the hot is where it's at. A very good hot sauce. 5 stars on that sauce! And for the ribs. Ribs were the same as the chicken. A bit on the dry side, but a dab of that hot bbq sauce did the ribs well. Another solid 4 star nice a dab of sauce was added. And a nice tough is the white bread. Thank you for the white bread. You can't have good bbq without a side of white bread. If in the area worth a stop. Try the BBQ. And stay for awhile and chat with the great folks that both work and patronize this staple of Ybor City.

Ordered the pulled pork dinner with Mac n cheese and baked beans. Comes with a bun so we made a sandwich out of it. Overall, we thought the food was good. Both sides had a slightly different flavor than we’re used to at a BBQ place, but we enjoyed them. Portion was a good size for the price. Exterior wasn’t overly welcoming, but staff was friendly, wore masks and the seating was clean.

We tried to combo plates to taste all the meat The sausage was Chopped never saw that before. Was good. Chopped beef nice smoke flavor, moist as well pork. Potato salad as good as mine. Tasty bean and okra. The slaw was just ok

Everything about this place is amazing. Thee best BBQ I've ever had, we'll besides my daddys. But man oh man. Delicious. Couldn't get a picture cause we scarfed it down. Pulled pork sandwiches, Mac and cheese, coleslaw, rice w/chicken. The homemade sauce mild and HOT, delicious 😋 my hubby is real picky with his BBQ and he was definitely impressed. It almost melts in your mouth. Really enjoyed it all. The service too! Very nice and laid back. We will definitely be back !

Being from Kansas City, I think I'm a good judge of BBQ, and this is great BBQ! Ribs were perfect. Went at almost closing time and sad they were out of rice with chicken side dish and also out of banana pudding. Quick, friendly service. Reasonably priced. Homey atmosphere.

Stumbled across this place on Google. The reviews don't lie. Ordered ribs, pulled pork and sausage. Everything was mouth-watering and delicious. Ribs fell right off the bone. Highly recommended if you're looking for great BBQ.

REALLY GOOD BBQ. At first glance I was thrown off because the restaurant is built like (and used to be) a house that was converted into a restaurant. There is a parking meter machine at the parking lot entrance, but if you are going to the restaurant then you dont have to pay. Once I got past what I was looking at, we went inside and ordered. The menu is pretty straightforward. We both ordered the quarter slab of ribs with yellow rice (which was excellent) and collard greens. A word of warning: the collard greens are HOT! Not spicy - HOT! They tell you this when you order. If you enjoy hot food then you'll be fine but I would prefer flavor over spice. It was too hot for me. Enough to make them unenjoyable. Also, they have wild chickens running around the back and side yard. I had to take pictures of this! I wonder if these are the whole and quarter chickens that are on the menu? We didn't order chicken. There are three flavors of bbq sauce: HOT, MILD, and SWEET, which you have to apply to the ribs yourself. It was differnt, but different is good. Anyway, you won't be disappointed.

My brother and I came to Al’s while visiting Tampa from Michigan. It is, hands down some of the best bar-b-q we have ever had. The spare ribs are incredibly tender and flavorful. The pulled pork is out of this world. The homemade mild sauce is to die for. I highly recommend checking this place out if you love great bar-b-q. Even parking is easy!

Fantastic food and service!!! Al took great care of us. The pulled pork was delicious: moist, melt in your mouth, and buttery. Baked beans were some of the best I’ve ever had. To top it all off the Banana Pudding and OMG cake were to die for. The slice we got of the cake was as big as the plate!! Massive portions for everything for a small price! Great experience and a must visit again on our travels back to Tampa. Thank you Al for a really wonderful lunch and amazing BBQ!

One of my Favorites. But as you have noticed, I likes my BBQ. How has nobody combined pull Pork and Smoked Sausages before? DALE is a genius. This place is a cool ol Shotgun house in Ybor City that constantly smokes up some great food. They have a daily lunch special as well as certain items that are only available on certain days. The Ribs (big pork ribs)have always been tender, the pulled pork is served tender, moist and without much fat ( why more places dont take the time to pull out the big fat chunks I'll never know.) The sauce is a savory sauce that compliments their BBQ perfectly. Their Collard Greens are served spicy, not stemy or bitter. Some of the best I've had. Come early, seating is at a premium.

Get the chicken and mix the sauces - so good! The collard greens are spicy, don't worry, they'll warn you. The chicken rice is tasty but I missed the mac and cheese (only on Fridays). Al was super helpful and very kind.

Great little barbecue spot. Great location one block off of the main drag (7th Ave) in Ybor City. We had ribs and they were huge, smokey and well seasoned....and might I add finger licking good! We had baked beans that were interstingly seasoned with cinnamon and corn that tasted fresh off the cob and sweet. And to top off our meal we had the OMG cake...which was a banana and strawberry dream of a finishing touch. Best unexpected bonus was the free onsight parking which is not at all common in Ybor.

Good barbecue is something we all crave from time to time but hardly are satisfied with our options around us. This place.....this place will absolutely give your barbecue tastebuds everything they are looking for! The pulled pork with their sauce was perfect and the sides are so down home and good. The cake, whatever it is for that day you HAVE to buy a slice, it doesn’t matter how full you are, this is a must! I am a baker and cake does not usually impress me in places but Al’s sure does.

Not bad. I've had better BBQ, but it wasn't terrible. The sausage and the baked beans are absolutely delicious!!! The ribs and pulled pork are really popular. Would've liked a sauce on the pulled pork. I'm not sure if the ribs are beef or pork, but they weren't my favorite. Staff is absolutely wonderful. Dining in, you choose your table, then come up order and pay. Food comes very quickly, nice and hot.

Al's Finger Licking Good Bar-B-Que has it all delicious RIBS, amazing atmosphere, location and friendly staff. Soon as I walked in it put a massive smile on my face. It was jammed with people and I had to wait for a bit. But as they say Rome wasn't built in a day and perfect RIBS are worth the wait. If your in Tampa do yourself a favour and enjoy the whole experience. The funny thing is it reminded me of Friday after next "Bros Bar-B-Q" which is one of the all time best movies.

What a wonderful spot! The food was delicious; I had the Uncle John's Smoked Sausage, and my girlfriend tried Sparky's Pulled Pork sandwich. Both were exceptional; just enough smoke, and spices to let you know what's there, but not so much it overpowers the meat. Their beans are made with cloves, a unique and delightful take on blend beans. The proprietors were super nice, friendly, and kind; every person on the staff a gentleman. All in all I give this the Rock Kommando FIVE STAR seal of Excellence!

Walked in on a rainy Saturday evening lighter 4lbs than when I walked out. The ribs were enormous, which is good, but you wonder if the quality catches up to the quantity....I'm here to say that it does. The sides were great, I had the spicy collard greens and okra with tomatoes. Everything I had went way past my expectations. Staff were great and even asked how the food was after me and a buddy finished our meals. Awesome food made with a lot of skill and care, wish I could charter a jet just to eat here on the weekends.

Wow...what a find! We were in Busch Gardens and were recommended this place by a member of staff. 20 minute drive from Busch and round a couple of little street and you will find this gem. Used extensively by locals and visitors alike. Soak up the local culture and the free roaming roosters whilst you are there. The guys in Al's are very helpful and the food is just amazing...not 'just', but truly fantastic. Properly BBQ food and homemade rice and chicken. Cornbread is amazing too. Just try it you will not be disappointed. 5 stars all the way.

Best BBQ I've ever (EVER) had! Employees are friendly, service is quick, atmosphere is laid back, restaurant is old, but clean. Parking tip: the lot beside the restaurant says $15 parking, but we were told by people from Al's that it is free for Al's customers. We parked in the lot & didn't get towed or ticketed.

We had the ribs, chopped pork with baked beans and coleslaw. Ribs were nice and Smokey with good bark. Wish they had baby back ribs however. The chopped pork was a little dry but their sweet sauce fixed that. Super authentic and nice local employees. Give it a try!

Great little lunch spot for folks that work or live in and around Ybor. I had a pulled pork sandwich that was spectacular and some sweet cornbread to go along with it. Friendly service and the food was ready in a matter of minutes. I think Al is the gentleman outside manning the grill.

I’ve been coming to Al’s with my dad since back when it was ran out of a food truck in Brandon. The BBQ is top notch and probably the best in the Tampa area. You know it is going to be good when you pull up and they are smoking it right in front. Be careful and you might miss this place. Very unassuming but delicious!!! Pulled pork is so tender. Ribs didn't even need sauce.....but if you want it, the sauce is delicious too! Chopped up right as soon as you order it. Can not go wrong. Very friendly atmosphere! We actually found Al's when we moved to the area 2 years ago. It's amazing. Don't expect anything but great service and fantastic food. Meat is perfectly bbq'd, sauce is mildly spicy and cole slaw is fresh and tangy!! Servings are huge and don't forget a slice of cake. They do alternate desserts and expect a line on Fridays.

The guy that’s making the orders needs to start opening his mouth and show some customer service.especially, since the bbq is not cheap. He is absolutely no help in deciding what to order. It is so routine for you to say “everything I cook is good, so just whatever you choose”. He had no problem blabbing to the other workers about his personal life. Not that’s off my chest, the bbq itself is delicious but the bake beans has a little to much cinnamon in them. I had three different meats and they all taste wonderful. The coleslaw was great. The ordering system needs work. When you first walk in your clueless, you don’t know if you should have a seat or wait on a server. I definitely didn’t know your suppose to walk straight to the register, order your food, pay, and then sit down. I shouldn’t feel lost or clueless when I enter a restaurant. There needs to be a sign or something that tells you why to do. Deducting a star for customer service and friendliness.

When I first had Al's bbq he was in a food truck and about to open his establishment. Let me tell you something.. it has always been soooooo good. My favorite things to get is pulled pork and hot link, with greens and baked beans. This time around I got the Mac and cheese because he only has it on Fridays. My mouth waters thinking about how good the food is! If there's any left (because they are that good) get yourself a sweet potato pie. My boyfriend who does NOT like spp, was obsessed! Best bbq in the bay. Family operated quaint establishment. Prices are very reasonable. Food is beyond words. When I was done eating I had to take a moment to look back how good the food was.I had the Pulled bbq dinner plate, it comes with two sides and bread. I got the lip smacking bbq beans and yellow rice with chicken. The bbq beans were probably the very best I ever had, nice sweetness to them. The yellow rice with chicken was cooked right and with just the right amount of spices and hint of chicken pieces. The sauces that I saw were mild bbq and hot bbq. The mild had the slightest hint of spice while being sweet and delectable. The hot was very tasty which is rare for very hot bbq sauces. This place is a gem and if you are in the Tampa Bay area for bbq you owe it to yourself to give Al's a try.

So I'm not from Florida and I've been craving great BBQ. A friend invited me to go to this spot called Al's Finger Licking Good BBQ... hey, I'm game for some BBQ I thought. I met him there and from the outside I was kinda skeptical because it looks like someone's old house in dire need of upgrades and updates (Thus the saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover"). The line was coming out of the door, I haven't seen a line like this since the last time I was at Attman's Deli in Baltimore. I got in line and I was immediately hit my the awesome smell of Memphis dry rub and smoky sweet BBQ sauce. Now this is no, "get dressed in your best babe, we're going out to eat" place as you've probably noticed in the name. So, it's my turn to order and I go for the half rack of baby back ribs, spicy collard greens, and Mac n cheese. I drizzle that smoky spicy sweet bbq sauce on everything and BoomBamPOW... 'Right in the kisser!!" I'm hooked! What they lack in ambiance and curb appeal, they more than make up for it in service, friendliness and that awesome aroma! Then the taste takes you on a carpet ride to what I affectionately call, "Itisville" because you're going to feel full, fat and happy and only want a nap afterwards. Later I'll add to this review when I eat the sweet potato pie!

The real deal. The picture is just the part of lunch that this 300-pounder could not finish. The food here is uncompromising. The barbecue is the smokiest I have ever had. Appearances can be deceiving. This unassuming building holds the most delicious barbecue! And the baked beans are a must try! We had ribs and pulled pork and both were excellent. The dry rub crust on the ribs was heaven and the sauce took the experience up a notch! Yum!

This place has absolutely amazing ribs. The smokey flavor is very noticeable. It combos very well with the high quality ribs they use here. When you buy a quarter slab, you buy a QUARTER SLAB. Considering prices are comparable to a lot of the competition, this may be my favorite bbq place. I don't think I can buy just a quarter slab next time...

Warm welcome with smiles as we entered the restaurant. Ribs very very tender, generous servings of the sides chicken and rice, and the mac and cheese (we ordered the medium size). We added sweet potato cake (a great suggestion by the cashier) and banana pudding along with drinks Arnold Palmer and sweet tea. Delicious meal!

I was really excited to take my family here after my daughter’s graduation. The reviews alone had me excited to try their BBQ. They didn’t have menus if you wanted to dine in…you had to order at the counter…that was ok..our food was handed to us over the counter, instead of bringing it to the table. My parents are both in their 70’s.. and they couldn’t get up fast enough to get the drinks that were handed to them over the counter again. The portions were small but most bbq places are like this now. I didn’t care for the small family reunion paper plates. The yellow rice was hard and the ribs were over cooked. When you’re not from the area, you go expecting more when you pay 14.00 a plate. I believe this maybe a restaurant more for the residents that live in the area.

A gem in the crown of Florida barbecue. We both ordered Carolyn's Double Play Combo, with 2 meats, 2 sides, bread and homemade hot-sauce. One mild, the other hot but definitely not too overwhelming. All for the cheap price of 13.99. Now what really stood out were the tender and flavorsome RIBS drowned in bbq sauce combined with heavenly Sarah's Creamy Coleslaw. Don't miss out!

The aroma of bbq meat cooking in the smoker was heavenly as we walked toward the unassuming restaurant in a house off the main Ybor city strip. The ribs were fall of the bone delicious. We had sides of okra and tomato, cole slaw. Potato salad and corn bread. OH MY, I felt like I was in heaven. If I wasn't GF restricted, I would have splurged on their mini pies, because those looked so good!

Good people, good service, and good meat. We had the ribs and the pulled pork. Overall the meat was well smoked, tender, great flavor, and juicy. That said, the sides are at best ok. Go for the meat but don't expect much from the sides. Tried a few and they are ok but don't stand out. Overall it was enjoyable and would go back to pick up more meat.

I’ve been going there for years. I can say it’s one of the only really barbecue places that isn’t a chain and ACTUALLY makes great food. They may not have everything all the time but you know, that’s what happens when you make good food, you sell out. But hands down one of my all time favorite restaurants. Some of the best sweet tea I’ve ever had and the sausage and beef, with chicken n’ rice and okra is absolutely to die for! That is when they have the beef but all the other meats and sides are good too

As a disclaimer, I do not like bbq BUT this was the best bbq I have had in my life so far. Everyone (regulars included) were kind, helpful, and funny with recommendations especially when I couldn’t choose between the sweet potato cake or banana pudding. The pudding won! Al's was fantastic! I usually get the pork or chicken and sausage but today, I got the ribs. They were cooked perfectly. By that I mean they didn't put too much spice and barbecue sauce and all that other kill the flavor kind of thing, the rib just sang it's own tune! They do have a good barbecue sauce to put on top if you want but I ate it as it was served and it was fantastic! It's a must visit if you're in ybor or even if not. The side dishes are also excellent. Well done, Al!

This barbecue was fantastic. I haven't had barbecue as good since I went to Tennessee over a year ago, and it definitely shows that Al and his family are from there. My favorite part was the sauces he had were both very good, and didn't come on the meat. I like vinegar based sauces and I hate when meat comes soaked in sugary sauce, you won't find that here. You can order everything by the pound and half pound and it all comes without sauce. We had practically all of the meats: the ribs were large and perfectly smoked, the pulled pork was delicious and wasn't too dry, the sausage was savory and hard to stop eating, and not one thing disappointed. The sides too we're great: the baked beans were tangy and sweet with the taste of brown sugar, the black eyed peas were tasty, the collard greens were spicy and salty as they should be. The only mild disappointment was the potato salad, it wasn't bad but it tasted like Sam's Club which is a shame because I bet Al would make a great homemade version. The cornbread and deserts were tasty. Be warned the cornbread is kind of crumbly, yet paradoxically it isn't too dry. The sweet potato pie was great, and the cake delightfully coconuty. Overall it's a fine restaurant, with great food and quick and friendly service. I know we'll stop in next time we're in the area, as barbecue that good is hard to find.

I’m a big time bbq lover!! Every city I visit I try and find the best bbq around! Well, this lil gem in the city of Tampa is the best bbq I’ve had in years. The meats were cooked perfect omg, soooo good! The baked beans were really good, the Mac n cheese was good as well. I didn’t enjoy the okra and tomatoes it had way too many tomatoes and the coleslaw was definitely store bought. I still give it a 5 star because of the ambiance... I walked in and definitely truly felt some black history going on! I’m definitely coming back just for that!

Absolutely delicious barbecue - mild was good, hot was better. Pulled pork sandwich was tasty. I’ve never had cinnamon in my baked beans, but we’ll be trying this at home - yummy. Before I go into my review, let me just say that I have travelled up to 10 hours for BBQ with family. I love BBQ of all different styles. I've lived in Ybor for a few months and didn't know this place existed. I'm not exaggerating when I say the meal I got from here was the best BBQ I've ever had. I got a pulled pork and smoked sausage combo. Both meats were made perfectly and were served generously. The sides were killer - the baked beans particularly blew me away. If you like BBQ, come here. I had lunch at Al's on a Friday at lunch and was expecting a huge line but surprisingly it was full but manageable. You probably need to try to be familiar with the menu before getting in line as I felt kind of rushed but the regulars had it down pat. The staff was very friendly and you get your food right away after ordering. There wasn't a lot of seating but the old building is very cool and the outside seating was nice. The ribs were without question some of the best I've ever had. Great slow smoked flavor and great compromise between fall off the bone tender and a little bit of bite and pull. Overall an absolutely wonderful place that I can't wait to go back to!

Great local BBQ joint. Was able to meet the man himself, very nice and welcoming gentleman. Greeted myself and my party and made sure we were taken care of. The food was great, probably the best BBQ place in Tampa-metro area. The prices are great and the portions are perfect. Everything is cooked fresh daily so if something runs out, that's it! It's done for the day. Watch the hours they do close earlier then most restaurants but definitely worth checking out.

All I can say is wow! The wonderful incredible smell will smack you in the forehead the moment you pull into their parking lot. Use your GPS it's a little tricky to find. Sick of all the overpriced junk that Ybor has to offer these days this place is the bomb. Super tasty fantastic BBQ at really good prices. And some of the best spicy barbecue sauce I've ever had(I even bought one to bring home). Big selection of homemade sides instead of just the usual corn slaw, beans, Etc. This is by far my favorite bbq spot. The staff is so friendly. The service is quick. The meat is smoked right on the premises. Located in ybor city so there is street parking and an additional lot for parking. If you’re in the area this is a must! Portions are very generous for the price. My favorite is the chopped beef but I have yet to try anything I don’t like. The chicken is always juicy and flavorful. The pork is delicious. The beans are amazing. Very different from anywhere else that I’ve had.

My girlfriend and i changed our minds on what we wanted to eat halfway on the drive (we have very indecisive stomachs). A mutual craving for barbecue slowly overtook us. From my passenger seat, she googled for the nearest barbecue restaurant. Second on the list: Al’s Finger Lickin’ Good Barbecue. We decided to chance it, and we pulled in. As soon as i walked in i was hit with the most delicious smell. It’s a calm atmosphere, one low volume flatscreen playing football. I see the most beautiful rack of ribs I’ve seen in a long time being sliced on the counter. We got the pulled pork dinner with baked beans and potato salad, and the smoked sausage dinner with collard greens and coleslaw, and both with a side of cornbread. This meal was the best barbecue I’ve had in the city of Tampa, period. Everything was exactly perfect, the only addition i needed to make was a little salt on my greens. Empty plates and full bellies. Stop by here as soon as you can if you love barbecue.

If I were a few years younger I would have started this review off with three simple letters: OMG. The food was good. Real good. Like, probably some of the best BBQ I've had in a long time. Just pulling into the parking lot you can smell the smoker and it just gets better when you go inside. The staff is incredibly friendly and even offered to swap out a side that they noticed I hadn't devoured like everything else (I was saving it to bring home to my girlfriend). Last time I was in TN, the BBQ was very similar to this! Al's used to be run out of a gas station in Brandon, but has since moved to Ybor City where he has his own restaurant. I went on a Friday night for the first time and got a pork and rib combo dinner with sides of baked beans and rice. Al also let me sample a piece of the smoked sausage and some of the collard greens. The meal also came with several pieces of bread. Very good portions, and the entire meal was delicious. Ribs were cooked just right and I love the rub they use for them. large and meaty ribs too. Pulled pork was excellent as well, nice and smoky. Sides were awesome, loved the beans and the rice, collards have a very interesting spicy flavor to them. Also has sauce at the table, and its Al's home made sauce....really good sauce with a tang to it, and he has a spicy one if you request it which I'll have to try next time. Open Wednesday through Saturday from 11:30 am to 4:30 on Wednesdays/Thursdays and until 9pm Fridays/Saturdays. Highly, highly recommended.

Als BBQ has received numerous awards, Including Best BBQ joint in Florida, Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence, and Top 10 Bargain Restaurant, just to name a few, and now I know why! From the outside, it doesn't look like much. It's a house converted into a restaurant in 2009. The interior is simple, with both counter seating and tables. You can also eat outside on the porch. Dont be surprised to see chickens running around, or even nesting around the restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing. I had the Carolyn's Double Play and chose chicken and ribs with 2 sides. The chicken was a half white meat and the most moist BBQ chicken I've ever had. The two ribs were meaty and flavorful. Al, as well as another guest highly recommended the sausage. The guest was eating the sausage for lunch, and liked it so much, he bought a pound to take home!

Great hole-in-the-wall place. The ribs are hit and miss so go at your own risk but the pork and sausage are always on point. Service is good too. Just make sure you get there no later than 11:30 because it gets packed quickly and the line can get long. Not much seating and the seating they do have forces you to sit with others most times (Family style seating).

This is a little hole-in-the-wall kind of place that you just know has good barbecue as soon as you see the rooster running around in the yard! I had the pulled pork and smoked sausage, with spicy collard greens and cole slaw as sides. Both meats were excellent! The collards were very tasty. The cole slaw would have been better on a sandwich than as a side, but that's just me. Took one star only because the ordering process is a bit chaotic and the super-loud chopping of meat was distracting. Would definitely eat there again if I was in the area.

Oh my. That is seriously tasty 'Que. My 3rd (or 4th?) time in. Tried something different every time and it's all good! Dale's Special today with green beans and a huge amount of coleslaw. Smoked sausage & pulled pork piled high together on a bun. Whoever thought of that needs a raise. Ribs, chicken, turkey are also available. Sides include cornbread (if you're lucky), Mac & cheese (Friday only), okra, black eyed peas, collard greens, baked beans. It's authentic, low tech, a little noisy and fabulous.

Food was amazing! I had the lunch special, pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw. It was just an explosion of flavor! Great injustice if you put bbq sauce on it. I look forward to going back and trying out their ribs! Downside: they are closed on Sundays! What?! Really?! But I get it. another downside is that they run out of food and sides. and some sides are only available certain days of the week. but, that beats having week-old mac and cheese!

After you are done reading my review you must: 1. Contact at least one friend or family member and make a date to visit Al's Finger Licking Good BBQ within 7 days. 2. If your first friend or family member can't commit, repeat step 1. I've been searching for the best BBQ in Hillsborough County over the last several months and Al's could be the very best! Al and his staff were very friendly and welcoming. We ate there on a Saturday evening around 7:15, and sat at the "bar" near the cash register. I selected the dark chicken dinner, which included two sides and white bread. I opted for the cole slaw and potato salad, which are my favorite BBQ sides of all time. Holy 🐔! All of my food was very tasty and the portion size was excellent. The dinner only set me back $8 and change and one Corona was under $4. I also squirted generous amounts of Al's homemade BBQ sauce and his homemade spicy BBQ sauce. I thoroughly enjoyed both of them, and my nose even got a little runny due to the heat. I love a little extra heat on my BBQ! Al told me they have been in business for 8 years and due to the quality of their food, this is NO SURPRISE! I will have to return on a Friday because I've been told their famous Mac n' cheese is served only on Fridays and sells out quickly. You will have a very difficult time finding BBQ in this area tasting this delicious, this generous of a portion size and at Al's very reasonable prices. I can't wait to go back! I'm nearly 100% sure that Al's will now by favorite BBQ go to joint! On another note, I was so full that I struggled with beer consumption on 7th Avenue that night.

Got there an hour before closing not really expecting much. I walked in , it was Layed back and clean I felt comfortable from the start the people were very kind placed my order in which I got ribs, chopped pork, sausage and a 1/2 chicken had some small talk about football as it was on the tv went home we didn't eat for about 45min the food was great the all the meat were well smoked with a nice smoke ring and juicy nothing was dry We were pleasantly surprised and ended up in Food comas on the couch lol. good homie customer Service juicy bbq I will be returning great job guys keep it up you got a new customer in us. I was up visiting Tampa and decided to stop by and support a local businesses and all I can say is WOW. The food in this place puts all other chain restaurants to shame. Really an amazing experience and the atmosphere is really good in this place also. I definitely will go out of my way to visit again. 1st off, you know it's gonna be good when the smell pulls you in from the street. My fiancé and I went to Ybor for a short trip and came across this amazing smell. It drew us in instantly. We were greeted with friendly, smiling employees. We both had the special that came with your choice of meat, 1 side, and a drink for around $8. It's usually their lunch special but they said it was available for the weekend. I had the dark meat chicken w/okra & tomatoes and he had the pulled pork sandwich w/spicy collard greens. Both meat choices were tender, smoky, & delicious. The okra & tomatoes were seasoned to perfection, with just a tiny bite to them. The collard greens were definitely spicy as they promised. We give the greens a 7/10 on the spicy scale. As they say, "if you have to ask how spicy, just don't get 'em!" They were very delicious as well. The aroma in the air definitely matched the taste of the food. We will definitely be eating here again real soon. This is a definite to-do if you are down in Ybor and are looking for a good place to eat.

4.75 stars. If in Tampa, this is a great BBQ place. Forget the fanciness kind of restaurant. There is no pressure or "frenchy server" kind of looks. They are expecting that you are there for GOOD BBQ food, and they for sure deliver. Eventhough I believe their Ribs can be one notch tender, you won't find better in Tampa. The employees are straight nice and only want that you love the food, and I think you will. Collard greens are a bit spicy.

Still a solid 5 for me! A few months ago we ate here during family vacation and all 5 of us were impressed. Today after my conference concluded, I hopped on a Coast bike share and pedaled to Ybor from downtown. I wandered the streets for an hour and worked up a decent appetite. I headed across the tracks to Al's thinking if I didn't I'd be making a mistake. But what if the last experience I had here was exaggerated because the kids had finally agreed in something and enjoyed it? What if the few contrarian reviewers were right, that the ribs were cooked to ashes? Well I gotta say today just reinforced that my last review was correct. I had a 2 meat 2 side platter and everything was just perfect. The ribs sporting a beautiful pink ring and a well seasoned bark were meaty and tender. The smoked sausage, burnished casing was delectable. TGIF it was Friday again and I got to order the mac and cheese and that spicy collard was so good, I sopped up the spicy pot liquor with half the bun and went at it. Felt like home! Al was not here today but his counterman remembered my previous visit and asked about Lisa E.

So far the best barbecue in Tampa I am from Kansas City Missouri and we are really big on BBQ and Al's Finger Licking Good BBQ is the closest thing to home. I came because of the reviews. But I was disappointed. I got the chopped beef with baked beans and the okra and tomatoes. My Booski got the chicken mac and cheese and potato salad. My beef was tender but it lacked seasoning. The okra and tomatoes lacked seasoning and the baked beans had cinnamon in it (which I definitely didn't like) my booski's chicken was dry. It didn't taste bad but it was soo dry! Mac and cheese and potato salad were ok but my mac and cheese and potato salad taste much better. The workers were friendly tho. Probably wouldn't return

Ok so.... this food is really good!!!! Well flavored, tender meats. The sides were really good, with the exception of the Greens, but in all fairness, they pre-warned us, and we ignored their warnings and ordered them anyway🤣. The only flavor those greens had was flame🤣. Waaaayy to much heat....and absolutely NO flavor. Overall, really good, comfort food!!!! ....and oh yeah....town of roosters everywhere. Found this spot when they first opened in the new location and is still one of my favs for good local BBQ. Other spots in town seem to either do really well cooking higher grade meats with merely sub-par sauce or having a wide selection of amazing sauces on sub-par meat, Al's brings together the best of both. The quality of meat is good and almost always cooked to perfection. Sauce selection is lacking, the taste of the two they serve is certainly not. The smokey-sweet mild and the peppered-up spicey version they cover the bases well for a solid meal. While the Mac n cheese on Fridays is ok, do not miss out on the killer spicey collard greens (some of the best I've had). As for the meats, I'd recommend the ribs, bone-in chicken (I usually prefer the white meat), or the Thursday special turkey legs. These are definitely the most bang for your buck.

This is an awesome venue... it feels so authentic. It looks like someone’s house! I can understand why it gets good reviews the food is of exceptional quality. The baked beans are flipping amazing!!! The place has no airs and graces, be prepared for your food to be loaded up on a small compartmented polystyrene plate. It is a little walk (4mins?) out from the main strip and it is technically ‘the wrong side of the tracks’, but so worth the walk. The seats are an eclectic mix of wooden chairs, although we didn’t I can imagine when it’s busy you will share your table with strangers. Despite its rustic charm the place has a very modern till system so they take cash or credit. Highly recommend

We visited Clearwater from Canada and found Al's on Trip Adviser. We drove out to have dinner but were a little put off by the place initially. We almost decided not to go in.....that would have been a mistake. The guys inside were some of the most polite guys I've ever met, and they took really good care of us. The food...my god....it was fantastic and a lot of for a great price. We don't have food like this back where I'm from so I was in heaven. If I'm ever back in Tampa I am for sure going back!!

Had driven by a handful of times but never stopped in until my wife and I read about them in Creative Loafing's 2014 Best of the Bay issue. They are more than deserving of the award; definitely the best bar b q we've had in Tampa. Service is fast and friendly, the environment is as casual and relaxed, and the food was spectacular. It happened to be raining pretty hard when we came in but that didn't stop the staff from regularly tending to the jumbo-sized smoker out by the parking lot (letting the smell float out there and reel people in). We'll definitely be back.

It's nigh impossible anymore to find Barbeque that "means it." Most places have pre-made sauces, frozen meats, and/or canned sides; all served with a wimpy little slice of wonder bread. Al's BBQ means it. Everything is chopped to order, made that morning. All of the sides are cooking in their pots right next to the chef as you order. The food is served on two huge sandwich buns - no wimpy bread here. The sauce doesn't play, either. The mild is a nice tangy sweet, and the hot has the heat you're looking for. If you are looking for real Barbeque, that has that passion and feeling in every bite, Al's won't let you down.

A friend of mine who used to live in Tampa told me I had to try this restaurant. We walked down a side street and found it, the smell was the first thing that drew you in, genuine, authentic, pit BBQ. Al was sitting out on the sidewalk minding the smoker when we walked up and welcomed us and thanked us for coming. The restaurant is exactly what you'd expect for a genuine pit BBQ place. No frills, just exceptional food! It used to be an oyster bar, so some of the decorations from that remain, like the painting of the topless mermaid on the kitchen doors. The meats are all amazing, you will love it no matter what you order!

I had the smoked sausage, pulled pork, baked beans and corn bread. The beans were really good and sweet. The pulled pork and smoke sausage were both really good as well.

Stoped in because of the smoke. I found the best Southern Bar B Que I have had since I grew up in south Miami. The ribs come just the way i use to get them when I was a kid . Ribs on slices of white bread with Bar B Que sauce on the side. If your in Ybor you MUST visit Al's Finger Licking Good Bar-B-Que.
