Reviews of Crown Candy Kitchen
Danielle G.
I was not expecting this place to be this cool. So many unique facets to this awesome restaurant!
The tiny booths, fun candy displays, old school table side jukeboxes! So much fun!
Plus the food was a huge hit with our whole group. 1000% kid friendly!
I had the egg salad sandwich and the Swiss chocolate sundae! My pro tip - dip your chips into your sundae… sweet and salty. Perfection!
Would highly recommend!

Cute retro setting. Visited on recommendation of a friend who insisted I order their monstrous BLT. I did. It's classic, diner foods and delicious ice cream treats. Parking was easy to find curbside, metered. Had to wait for a bit outside because they were poppin'. Food came quick and fresh though once ordered. Would gladly return on future trips.

I can’t get enough of this place! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is truly vintage, and the staff is so friendly and fun. Find a friend who will share a plate with you so you can order 2 sandwiches (one must be the BLT) any then finish it with a fresh banana milkshake. You can even get candy to go. And the owners are wonderful and generous people. Heaven.

If you like bacon, try the heart stopper, which must have at least a half a pound of crispy bacon on it. Every time I am in St Louis, I go here to have the BLT heart stopper and it has not disappointed yet. The shakes are good too. We tried the chocolate banana shake.

This shop will take you back in time with its unique history. The sundaes and milkshakes are delicious, and the sandwiches are big portions. A great place to visit in St. Louis.

Quick and cordial service (try to arrive before the lunch crowd to beat the line)! The vanilla malt and Reuben were delicious! The milkshakes can easily serve two, so if you go with a group, I would recommend sharing (they are served in a steel cup alongside an empty glass)!
Craig Furry
Loved this place! BLT is to die for! Milk shakes are served in the metal mixing cups. Fresh homemade candy also available!
Carondelet Kitchen
What do you say about this place? Best Ice Cream Sundae? Check! Amazing candy? Check! Old school atmosphere that just makes you smile? Yes, yes, yes! Amazing service and super friendly! Took our little one for her first visit recently and this place never disappoints!

A hidden gem worth the hype! Tin ceiling tiles, vintage wall art, table top jukeboxes, and a huge antique display cabinet and shelves full of homemade chocolates and candies - Crown Candy Kitchen will take you back in time and keep you coming back for more.
We arrived around 11:30am and found street parking on the block. If you are not familiar with the parking meters, you may want to download one of the parking apps ahead of time (we used ParkMobile).
Near the shop entrance, there were two signs directing where to stand in line for dine-in and for carry-out. There was no line and we were asked to seat ourselves.
There are a limited number of booths which I expect fill very quickly. Due to the size and style of the booths, they could be challenging for some to get in and out of. I did not see accessible seating.
The menu (see pic) is short and sweet. No fuss, just good, solid sandwiches. Our group of 3 ordered Turkey Bacon Melt (this was the favorite!), Roast Beef Cheddar Melt (delicious, thick sliced roast beef - yum!), and Chicken Salad sandwich (a little bland but overall good). The sandwiches are served with potato chips and a pickle spear.
You will want to save room for dessert. They make their own ice cream (also used to make their famous shakes and malts). The chocolate malt was undoubtedly the BEST chocolate malt I have ever had. Or ever dreamed of having.

It's an STL tradition! Great food. Holiday chocolates. Staff are so nice and service is fast. Depending on the day and time he prepared to wait in line outside. I promise it's worth the wait for that classic St. Louis feel💛
Barbie keefe
It was a great place. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Food was great. It was like taking a step back in time.

My sister Took me here back in the early 1960’s and this past summer my brother and nephew and his wife had lunch love this place. Crown candy kitchen St.Louis best ever.😊

A hometown favorite and historical visit there and help keep the doors open great food homemade candy and shakes are to die for. Nice health size servings, you won't be disappointed, I promise.
Phillip Burum
I can't stop laughing at the absurdity of this meal. I came here for the first time 4 years ago and am so glad it's still here.
Heart attack BLT and a chocolate malt for $20 and worth every penny.
John Yurgealitis
Definitely gonna return to this place. We had ice cream and got chocolates to go. Could hardly finish the one scoop was gigantic. But after seeing that huge bacon sandwich I will return for it next time.
Mel Ginder
This place is amazing if you are looking for something sweet and local. A must go to place when visiting STL. Parking meters surround the restaurant but we paid $2 for 1 hour.

Can’t get over this place!!
You know it’s the hottest spot in town when the line is so freaking long. And yes, it was worth it!!
The tuna melt was so good and I was so sad when it was all gone. The sundae was so big but so yummy!! You should definitely get one if you are there.
The building is ancient and it’s so pretty inside. Unfortunately, there are not enough tables so it might be very hard to get one so be patient.
Overall we enjoyed the food, the company, the service was great, and we recommend!!
Alessandro Moschetti
This review is based solely on my experience and my personal opinion.
this was my first time at the "Candy Crown" (8/24/21).
WARNING/BE AWARE OF: as soon as you get in there is a sign that says "This Ain't No health food store.... home of the heart stopping BLT". All of the staff T-shirts have the same message on 'em, so you know what you are getting and you know that here you cannot get any healthy food. I like it when they are upfront and honest.
SO, IF you are a healthy food only kind of person, IF you are Vegetarian and Vegan, or IF you like open spaces, with plenty of space between you and the other customers I recommend you move on to another place as this is definitely NOT the place for you.
ONE last thing, if you decide to walk in, MAKE SURE that health wise you are fit to eat their sandwiches and drink their Malts, as they have ALOT of calories, fats and sugars!
FOOD: We ordered a BLT Sandwich, cheese sandwich, Roast beef Sandwich, Grilled ham & cheese sandwich, two Hot fudge Malts, one fresh banana Malt and one Vanilla Malt.
Overall the ingredients quality is good and the flavors are all there, so you wont get any artificial or unexpected flavor. Simple sandwiches, few ingredients, good flavor. I just wish they had more bread options. you can only get white bread or sourdough bread.
Everything tastes just like a homemade sandwich your mother or grandmother would make.
BLT sandwich= flavor is exactly what you would expect from a Bacon based sandwich, nicely seasoned, Bacon is crunchy and warm, cooked right, Lettuce and tomatoes sort of compensate the natural greasiness of the Bacon, of which this sandwich is fully loaded. What you expect is what you get. It takes some time to go thru the entire sandwich as you
Lettuce and tomatoes enhance the flavor of the other ingredients.
CHEESE Sandwich= a classic American sandwich, the cheese flavor is there and if you ask for some lettuce and tomatoes in it, it is gonna taste even better. Lettuce and tomatoes enhance the flavor of the other ingredients. they use a blend of cheese that I found delicious.
GRILLED HAM & CHEESE sandwich= one more American classic... you can definitely taste the grilled ham, nice and tender with it's distinctive smoky taste. The flavor is balanced and all there. no surprises. The cheese in the sandwich creates that flavor contrast that your mind is waiting for.
ROAST BEEF CHEDDAR MELT sandwich= it has the flavor of a good Pastrami sandwich that has been smothered with molten cheddar cheese, if that makes sense to you. very good indeed.
They serve 24-ounce Malts. I liked all the Malts flavor except for mine that had a strong artificial Banana flavor.
Here you can buy handmade Candies and Ice-cream and they have a pretty big candy shelf/counter. I did not try them, so I cant judge.
STAFF: All the stuff is very friendly and nice and again, they are very honest and straight forward when it comes to let you know "this is not a health food store", so you can decide whether to stay or go.
CLEALINESS: overall clean and neat.
PLACE: It is a very small store, Vintage looking, with many photos of the old St. louis, many memorabilia kind of Décor and many other frames and "objects" that are straight from the 50's and 60's.
All the Boots are very small, 4 people max, shoulder to shoulder kind of small. The place can host 50 people at a time as they have 50 seats only.
between two rows of boots is a 2 feet wide isle. so, yes, very small.
it is a bit crowded with furniture and Décor, and also because in the same store they make and sell Candies and Ice cream. my pictures will give you a better idea.
I loved the Vintage Vibe the place gives. My photos will give you a better idea.
LOCATION: Unsafe at night.
RESTROOMS: very small and old, but clean.
PRICE: I think they have fair prices and I think their prices are proportional to the Quality and Quantity of the food you get.
CONCLUSIONS: While it is true that their store has quite a few cons, it is also true that all the cons are visible. so, the cons cannot be used as a criticism. I will go back!

I love this retro little restaurant! Today I waiting in line outside for my table. TOTALLY WORTH IT!! Plus they have umbrellas set up outside to provide shade. Nice touch! My BLT and vanilla milkshake were fantastic! The server was pleasant. I was too full to purchase candy at the end of my meal but it was tempting.
I hope this place never goes out of business!!
L Wesche (Foodie)
This is such a classic st louis treasure. The BLT with its pound of bacon is huge and good to share. My chocolate milkshake was thick with plenty of chocolate. . Love having it brought in the silver mixing container with the shake glass and spoon. Wonderful, efficient servers. Very pleasant ☺️
Andrew Ricketts
Really great place for lunch!!! A little pricey, but worth it to experience a delicious sandwich!!! Also don’t forget the candy
Rod Johnson
Best hand dipped authentic Strawberry Shakes around. Joe and his friendly staff always ensures that your dinning experience is memorable. All of the sandwiches are great. You’ll be glad that you stopped by.👍🏾✌🏾😎 …
Jim Hammar
This place is a straight throwback to the good old days of a malt shop with ice cream sundaes. Sandwiches were fantastic and could probably feed 2 people but are so good you don't want to share. Had the half heart attack BLT with and absolute ton of bacon mmmmmm.
Marti Pearl
Actually received a gift from CC from our out of state children. We love it! And used to be a great place to eat and fun. But it's no longer safe to go down there. They need to relocate to a safer part of the city. But I understand about tradition and they rustic atmosphere inside but they need armed security in the parking lot.
Jen S
My husband took me here for our anniversary since I have never been. The Reuben was delicious followed by even tastier ice cream. The table next to us had one of their famous blts and after seeing that, I already know what I am eating next time. There will definitely be a next time!
William Morris
A St. Louis staple and an all around fun place to experience. Crown candy has been around for decades. On our way to work one day my wife and I decided to stop in and treat ourselves, my wife had never been there. So I figured I'd just let her witness for herself and I am not ashamed to say that she wished that she had gotten two scoops of Black walnut ice cream instead of just one. I had a Ruben sandwich and it was so good; I may have hurt myself eating it. Absolutely delicious. I mean who doesn't want ice cream and candy. Crown has been and will always be the place to go that reminds you of your childhood and the place where memories are made. I urge you to stop by and treat yourself...
You know want to. 😏
jason ratts
Great food, loved the atmosphere, booths are small, I guess easier to share bites with you're partner.
Shane Yardley
Okay so this is an stl landmark, Best, malts and shakes in town. It's in what tourists think is a seedy area, but all families and kids come here. You are not in danger. The candy and shakes/malts are bar none the best I have ever had. The pound BLT is amazing. You can't go wrong here. Keep on Keeping on Crown 👑 Candy.
Alisa Wainscott
We stop here every time we are even close to St Louis. 100+ year old traditional soda fountain. It doesn't seem fair to say it's "just" shakes & sandwiches because the whole experience is so great, including the fastest moving waitstaff!
Roast
Great lunch and ice cream. Long lines though. Luckily we got ours to go so didn't have to wait to long to order. Friendly staff and tasty candy (supringly not made there).
Chip Brian
The lovely St. Louis classic and a slightly off the beaten path neighborhood. Wonderful soda fountain experience and great egg salad. Highly recommended...
Christopher Byrd
Crown Candy Kitchen is a St. Louis landmark. Wonderful food and a great experience all around! After the meal we bought candy and chocolates to go, which are fantastic. Whether visiting St. Louis or a native, definitely check this place out!
Audrey Shu
Established in 1913 and still the best milkshake or malt you can get! Huge portions on sandwiches. Staff was top notch as always. Looks the same after all these years.
Debbie Dennis
Crowded, have to wait outside in line for a table, however, it's worth it for the experience of nostalgia! Food, servers, ambience, were all great! The old-fashioned malts are amazing!
Ebony King
Horrible food but great shakes. Just get the candy and ice cream nothing else. I had the turkey bacon sandwich with salad because it smells good when you walk in don’t be fooled stick to what they are known for shakes and candy.
Aaron Barbee (A-A-Ron)
First time here and it won’t be our last. Covid protocols meant getting on a wait list to get in, but at least we parked nearby. Staff are all super friendly, especially the ladies working the entrance.
All of our sandwiches arrived quickly and tasted great. We split a chocolate shake and grabbed some chocolates to go. Everything sweet was fantastic! Can’t wait to go back. :)
Tisha Armstead
Absolutely loved this wonderful part of history in St. Louis. The food was AAAMAZING!! My husband had the BLT and I had the chicken salad OMG sooooo good. We shared a strawberry malt soooo good as well. Loved the original seating, loved the feel of going back in time. Staff was sooo friendly!!
Kathleen Warner
I've lived in St. Louis the majority of my life and had never been to Crown Candy. We had a very enjoyable time. I recommend if you haven't been there, GO!
Paolo Peralta
Delicious food, great service, and always friendly. Love the shakes and candy! Try their shake challenge: 5 full shakes in 30min, no break aways. They do good following the COVID-19 guidelines. We always enjoy our meals and time here.
b.
Worth any wait (and in good weather, takeout that you can eat in the parks across the street!). You MUST try the shakes; I like the extra malt too.
Cheryl Santoro
Wow we’re they hopping today!!I had the potato soup and it was piping hot!!
The BLT is a mile high..
We also had the ham and bacon sandwich. Couldn’t finish that either!
Will go back again!
Katie H.
Delicious food with lots of options! Friendly service, although there was quite a wait to be seated, as the restaurant seating area is very small. My party of 3 waited about an hour in line for a table to open up. Lots of neat candies and desserts to choose from. It can be a little awkward, especially as a first-time visitor, as the line of people wait to be seated just stand there waiting and watching the people who are already seated and eating, haha. But it's not too bad. Highly recommend a chocolate malt and the BLT. Overall, it was a super fun experience and I can't wait to go back!
Jason Lumetta
As always, never a disappointment for me! My wife and I did the BLT and fabulous as ever. My wife wished her bacon was a little more cooked.
The chocolates were awesome to see. The various sweet drinks, malts and ice creams are enticing.
The area can make one a bit nervous getting to and from. I never had an issue but I only go during lunch times.
Stephen Harlow
The waitress was amazing and super helpful. The malts and sandwiches were great. Super simple sandwiches, but super tasty
Jerry Cox
We had the BLT and the Egg salad sandwich. Both were awesome. And we spit a hand made shake. The best 50's nostalgia dinner in St. Louis
Mary Brown
BLTs done RIGHT!!! If you love bacon this is the place for it! I think they put a pound of bacon on each sandwich! My husband and I split a BLT and a chili dog. We liked both of them! Our young (under 8)grandson devoured a chicken sandwich! We also each got a chocolate malt. They were so large that we could have shared one.
There are two lines going into this place. One line is for eat in, the other is for dine in. We decided to eat in. The line moved quickly ... it was a relatively short line from what we expected. We were seated and served in record time for how busy they were! The food was hot, malts were thick and waitress was busy but pleasant.
Amber Bauer
First time here and it won't be the last. Resturant is clean and following all current Covid guidelines. We came at the end of the lunch rush around 1:30 and had a bit of a wait. The wait was worth it. The BLT was huge and amazing. The sandwich was so filling, I didn't even have the room to touch my chips lol. Enjoyed a Marshmallow Malt as well. Service was great and fast. All the employees seemed to genuinely like working at Crown Candy and were extremely hospitable.

Crown Candy "St. Louis' oldest soda fountain" is one of a kind in the heart of St.Louis, established in 1913. This place has an old school vibe located at the corner of 14th street and St. Louis Avenue, downtown. If it's your first time to this part of St. Louis, you might find the area to be a little sketchy. Don't let that deter you from checking this place out. You should be fine as long as your visit is during the day time. There is ample street parking near the restaurant.
The staff are friendly and helpful. The booth were we sat in was deemed "cleaned" but we both had to wipe off our seats before sitting down to remove left over food remnants from the previous guests. The floors were very dirty and the customer seating areas just looked like it could use a good deep cleaning.
The bar area where they make all of the drinks, malts, ice cream, etc. was very clean. Its an open area and we had a good view of the owner making our dessert, which was very cool to see. While the decor was very nostalgic, it could definitely use some sprucing up. The penny juke box on our table was not functional and needed to be repaired and cleaned.
Food
The Heart Stopping BLT was recommended so I gave it a try. It came with two slices of regular bread, nothing fancy. The inside was massive, loaded with tons of BACON. The portion was so huge that I split it with my wife and yet we had left overs. There was not a whole lot of flavor for the sandwich. It could have used more tomatoes, and maybe some spicy mayonnaise instead of the miracle whip which would have given it more flavor. The sandwich comes with chips, that are not homemade (Ruffles potato chips). It also came with a pickle spear. While the sandwich was very large it lacked in overall flavor.
Desserts
The desserts on the other hand is a whole another level. The Fire house special had the perfect mixture of nuts, real ice cream, chocolate sauce, and fruit. *loved it*
The 24oz. Oreo milkshake was very creamy for my taste.
The malt challenge is still on the menu if you want to give it a shot!
Overall desserts were definitely the best part of our meal. They also have a variety of delicious candy and chocolates.
We saw many locals come and order dessert to go and leave. In the future I would take a cue from them. If you are famished and have a sweet tooth definitely hit this joint.

By far the best Bacon Lettuce, tomato I've ever had. A truckload of bacon. Sure, it's slightly on the spendy side for a sandwich, but we'll worth it. Other menu options round out the choices, plenty of deserts, candy chocolate, ice cream. Also famous across the country, maybe the world.

Wow. The atmosphere, decor, service, and food at Crown Candy are amazing. Feels like you're stepping back in time. I loved the chocolate marshmallow malt and the BLT with 3 inches of bacon! Heads up: it has on street, paid parking (super cheap though!) and the door is not automatic.
Erin Austin
Of course it was good! I did not get the famous BLT but I got the grilled cheese and it was good and cheesy. Their chocolate candy cannot be beat. Go support them in these difficult times!
Lindsay Blum
Dining at Crown Candy Kitchen is one of those "signature" experiences when in St. Louis. To the locals, Crown Candy is a beloved institution. Its reputation draws in many visitors seeking delicious malts at "St. Louis's oldest soda fountain". Any time my father in law is in town, we make an effort to have lunch at Crown Candy. It is always a welcome treat!
Evan Murphy
Great small candy store, I would get ice cream. Haven't tried the sandwiches but I'm going to next time.
Tommy Haury
Delicious food. My daughter’s BLT must have had a pound of bacon on it. Not all the candys they sell are made by them. We bought a couple of chocolate items that were. They did not disappoint. They loose a star for long lines. I admit, I don’t know how to fix this without loosing the character of the place.
Jada Peten
Crowne candy is always amazing whenever I go. Usually, I get the butterscotch malted shake but this time I got their sundae with hot fudge, caramel, and butterscotch! It was so worth it! Also had the grilled cheese with bacon, but I get that every time I go because it’s reliably good, as is everything else they serve!
Reyna Alfaro-Joya
Love their BLT. It is worth the wait. The staff is always moving trying to get people in and out. Love have the option to carry out. During a nice day it is nice to search outside on the tables.
Blake Robertson
The biggest and best BLT. They also have shakes, malts and sundaes
George Renard
This BLT should come with a complimentary Crestor tablet. Imagine a normal sandwich but with 4 times the bacon. No wimpy bacon, thick cut. Awesome creation! Good chocolate malts and large Reubens. Eat your meal inside to absorb the history of this St. Louis fixture.
Gretchen Lee
Crown candy is the beat experience you can get!! Such a calm n down to earth environment. Lots of old fashion stuff and great homemade chocolate and treats!! But the best part is the HEART STOPPING BLT. It's to die for. Also the ice cream is great, the only down fall is the wait is usually at least 30 mins in my experience. Worth the wait
Brewski
Inflation has not hit the food prices here. They do need to modernize their systems for efficiency
Anthony Ellerson Sr
Not to often do i say too much beacon (maybe never) but there was a lot on this BLT. Wife's ham and cheese was pretty good also.
Ben
People were queuing up around the block to get in and once you’re inside it’s clear why. The atmosphere was fantastic and the staff very friendly and helpful. The food was gooey and delicious.
Mark Zeman
This retro diner makes you slip back to 1950 with its classic booths, and the food is straight forward American basics -- done exceptionally well: burgers, malts, and their specialty... a BLT with 1 lb. of bacon. Fan-tastic! It's so popular there's a line 30 people deep at opening, and there is limited seating, so get there early!
Leah Larissa
Amazing ice cream sundaes! Didn't try the actual food but what walked past us looked great. It's to take in a little bit of St Louis history and get a sweet treat in the process.
Crown Sundae in back and French sundae in the front of the picture.
MLBNut
No wait on a Monday before 1100 am. The BLT was a meal, so good... In and out in less than a hour, staff was friendly and fast...
Lloyd
I had a great time at a Crown Candy being able to talk to fellow Yelpers and discussing the different food venues.
Crown Candy was really nice with good service the food was it was right, I can't complain about the food I wouldn't say it was five stars but it was probably a touch above average.
The biggest thing that I noticed most patrons like is that they have a bacon fetish here, so if you're a bacon lover this is your place. I'm not a bacon lover so you know I'm not that fond of it, but I did really enjoy my big cheese sandwich it had like four different kinds of cheeses on it and it came with chips and a pickle ,which I think made it simple but yet beautiful flavors.
My thing was the biggest thing I enjoyed was the chocolate Newport Sunday that chocolate Newport Sunday was fire. I enjoyed the best nuts I've ever eaten, I don't know if it is sugar-coated toasted nuts or what; but they were delicious and it just enhanced the chocolate, the whip cream, oneness of that vanilla sundae at the bottom.
I can see myself coming here again easily, sooner than later.
Latasha Jackson
This was my 1st time here. I'm not sure what took me so long. Glad I came. The best Reuben and BLT ever. Love the nostalgic atmosphere. Will come back for a malt and sundae.
Steven Inge
The perfect feel! Live music outside, the inside is accleptic, reminiscent of a time soda and icecream was a treat. The wife and I each got the BLT. At first glance, it makes you think of a bacon on bacon hate crime! The first half I ate au natural due to my unhinged jaw abilities. The kids decided my root beer float was their favorite, so it became their float.. Meanwhile their grilled cheese plates got stacked with excess bacon. I believe the chips are made in house if you're into that. Then the history, three generations owned. I'd give 6 stars if possible.
Kenneth Happe
I love this St. Louis institution. I hope it never closes. The BLT and Chili are both amazing.
Gary Gay
Great Ice-cream and service a great long time establishment.
Debbie Sander
Exceptional service! The BLT!!! Is there such a thing as too much bacon? I think not!
Fred Aydt
Old time soda and candy shop with the booths from the 1900s. Great big BLT share with someone or get ready to bring a sandwich home. Great ice cream shakes and ice cream specialities!
John Loudon
LOVE this place.
Everyone loves Ted Drewes but STL aficionados always hit this historic, blast from the past soda fountain. The BLT is epic, but don’t miss the ice cream soda
Edna fbfg
Absolutely love this place. Retro ice cream parlor, candy shop, and kinda greasy spoon diner. First place I bring any out of town guest to indulge.
Today was all about the heart-stopping BLT, which included at least a pound+ of bacon, and a fireman's sundae.
Cory Roxas
BLT and chocolate malt never disappoint.
S Smith
This is a great candy shop, the line was to the door and outside. Parking is by meter, you will need 30 minutes if the line is at the door. If you are taking it to go. Candy is served by 1/4th pound, so just know that going in. They have a BLT that looks like a whole pack of bacon. Ans the Sunday's are let me just say amazing.
Zianne London
I had the but, crazy named, sandwich or monster. It was awesome, but I could not finish it. Lol. I also had the strawberry and banana milk shake. Omg! The flavor was bold and enough for two people. Loved this place and thx for the great STL introduction ❤
J. Thomas Sisco
An amazing call back to a different time. I was impressed on how authentic everything appeared. This place has been in the same family and same location since it opened in 1913. You must visit whether you are a St Louis local, or somebody visiting St Louis.
Debbie Murphy
Authentic old-school St. Louis experience! They BLT had so much bacon we had to take half to go. The ice cream sundaes were fantastic. Terrific candy selection!
Chris
Great food, great service, great servers. Even great napkins and great to go boxes. These people know what they are doing!
Vince Walker
First time back since I was a wee kid. Had the turkey bacon melt. Delicious. Ordered a butterscotch shake. Save room for their shakes and malts. Big portion. I tried their chili and it's an unsung hero in the kitchen. Very tasty and I think I'll have that on my next visit.
Marilee Manning
It's a place where you "walk in and waddle out!" The food is sooooo good. Another great sandwich is their grilled ham and cheese.
Luke Smith
BLT is unique. They say a pound of bacon. We found that to be true! We walked from downtown. I recommend taking an uber or catching the bus instead.
Ike Eickenhorst
Had the best time, best food, the shake was huge. Great prices. We stocked up in candy for Christmas gifts too.
Kirk Parker
Bacon Lovers Paradise! Don't be put off by the neighborhood. This place is a jewel among the weeds. We were concerned when we drove up that maybe we were in the wrong place. The building was built in 1913 and looks like it hasn't been updated since. When you step in the door you are transported back to the magical time when life was simple and customer service was everything. My sandwich was amazing. Over a pound of bacon in the BLT sandwich. I would recommend this place to everyone.
Sterling Windsor
Had turkey bacon melt OMG smashed it. Wanted to try the blt but was on lunch and didn't want to go to sleep afterwards however still fighting sleep I'm full!
First Name Last Name
This place was magnificent. The staff the owners the waiters everyone who work there took extreme precautions for COVID-19. They made sure guests felt comfortable and made sure everyone was moving in and out quickly and thoroughly. Now it’s time for the food my partner and I ordered two BLTs sandwiches as well as a quarter pound of nonpareil’s chocolate and two milk chocolate Peanut butter cups.
I just would like to say this was probably the most amazing BLT I’ve ever eaten. There was at least 15 pieces of bacon on the sandwich. In order for me to eat the sandwich I had to take a few pieces off in order to fit my mouth around it. The bread was toasted with tomatoes fresh and the lettuce was very crisp. It was absolutely worth it and I highly recommend it I think this place is incredible and has a wonderful reputation that at the upholds. I am new to the St. Louis area and this was one of the best experiences in terms of food I’ve had since getting here.
Also the chocolate was absolutely divine it hit the spot and tasted like good quality chocolate.
Also in terms of energy inside the restaurant everybody was upbeat uplifting and gave you great reasons to just sit back and enjoy your food.

Best BLT sandwich ever. Shakes a wonderful great atmosphere
Amanda Berry
I placed an online order for Easter and a few extras. The shipping was extremely fast and was delivered via ups. One of my items did arrive crushed unfortunately. As soon as I emailed the shop it was handled very promptly. Now let's get to the sweetness of this review. The chocolate is outstanding! Not too sweet and rich, a very creamy nice texture. The caramel filling on the salted caramel eggs smoothly melts in your mouth, with not too much sea salt. I would absolutely recommend this historic little shop to anyone, even if it is an online order. If you haven't yet placed an order or stopped by you are missing out on something absolutely amazing!
Derrick Thompson
Our first visit but it won't be our last. What a place to enjoy a great meal! 👍
Tom Hisey
There's a reason Crown Candy is a St. Louis staple. A must-visit for anyone who lives our travels here. Friendly service, great food, and wonderful atmosphere.
Hugh K
A cozy little stop in St. Louis. They have a 5 malts in 30 minutes challenge, but I didn't dare attempt it. However their malts and shakes are very tasty. Don't sleep on the food either, I got a grilled ham and swiss sandwich and it was packed with meat. Definitely worth my money and wasn't very busy for a Wednesday night at 5:15. They also sell candy but I didn't try any. I will definitely be back and if you're in the area you should stop by.
Charleen Hoskins
Been coming here since I was a kid and LOVE it. Never tried the egg salad sandwich before and as usual I was not disappointed ans I am picking when it comes to egg salad. Sad that I didn't make it before the chicken salad ran out. 😢 …
Dewayne Williams
The food here was awesome, the shakes are to die for!!! If you're ever in the area you have to go...
Stephanie Jackson
The Reuben sandwich was the best I ever had. The BLT was massive. I get that it is their signature sandwich but honestly it is too much bacon and tore up the roof of my mouth. Their ice cream floats and malts are amazing.
Tiffany Bailey
Such a neat old candy shop and ice cream store. Reuben was good. I later heard that I should have tried a BLT, but maybe next time we come back. Ice cream was delicious!
J P
Da-yum! This is excellent stuff! I went with the fan favs - BLT & Chocolate Shake - and have zero regrets. Everything was excellent! PSA: one sandwich and one shake are enough for two people.
michael crutcher
Nostalgic. It’s an experience. Good treats (ice cream & chocolates). Food menu is limited. Small seating area, so it can be crowded at times with line out the door; especially during holidays ( Xmas, Easter, valentines, etc). To go orders can avoid the wait by using the “to go” line on the left.
Adrienne Oakason
Very busy small place, be prepared to wait for a table. Big packed sandwiches and delicious ice cream and malts.
valaur dickerson
Great food & service. Haven't visited Crown Candy in years & glad to know the BLT STILL ranks #1!
Corey Whipple
Visited today going through St. Louis. We saw the episode of Man vs. food and thought we would give it a try.
Very polite staff. Prompt service. And the milkshakes did not disappoint.
Glad we stopped.
Lizzy Shanika
Amazing food. Great service. Really fun place. An STL must go. BLT is a must get.
Suzanne Chisum
Great lunch. Long line but we ate across the street. Helpful staff.
Nancy Hubly
We have a wonderful lunch and service, but our car would not start when we came out. Some one must have told the owner. He stopped what he was doing and gave us a jump start. Thats full service!! His kindness was much appreciated.
John Mcpartland
First time here. Amazing food. Love the old school feeling. Will be back
David Ayres
Home of the Heart-Stopping BLT. What else is there to say?! Great malts, friendly staff. Worth the visit!
Tim Zollner
The HEART STOPPING BLT.... only place in St.Louis to get this much bacon for this price is packaged!! The seating sucks (1950s) hard and NO space(4 small people). But food is worth it. We go atleast once a week here.
Jesse Lynn
Yes the BLT is no joke! Save room for ice cream and milkshakes! Menu is a tad limited but the service and BLT make up for it.
Annetta Ribken
Did you say bacon? Ohhhhhhh yeaaaah. So much bacon you'll grow a piggy tail when you finish. An out of body experience .
Jeremy Kitson
Excellent food and friendly service. The BLT was worth the trip.
Victor Migneco
We enjoyed some BLTs and chocolate shakes today, ordering take-out and sitting across the street at one of the many outdoor tables. Always a treat for us!
Lindell Hicks
Foods great. BLT is huge. The Malts are delicious.
Jenn Haley
Always yummy. Visited from Denver, got ice cream & candy to go.... will definitely return!
Nicole Bray
Best blt in town! And the ice creams to choose from. A must is the heavenly has in their chocolate section
Deanna Hood
Amazing BLT! Great chicken Salad and egg salad. They also have butterscotch malts!
Carla Mahone
Very blessed and polite best bacon sandwich you can ever sync your teeth into I will definitely be back next year when I come back into town
Wendy Gilliam
It was our first time here. We had a wonderful experience & the food was excellent. Definitely stopping here in the future.
Clay Powell
Delicious ham/cheese sandwich. Chocolate malt- yum! Nice park to eat in across the street if you prefer.
Bruce Freeman
Friendly atmosphere good service good food BLT was worth the money, strawberry banana shake was excellent prices are reasonable turkey bacon club was excellent as well
jozy gil
Great decor, best shakes in Saint Louis MO, and that Bacon sandwich will blow your mind.
James Yount
First visit even though living in St. Louis for 2 decades. About 20 minutes to get in and seated around 11am, but wait was worth it. Ate way too much between meal and desserts. Also had to buy about $30 worth of assorted candies. Steady stream of eagerly waiting customers with line out the door, but no one complaining.
Chris C
A St. Louis Classic! Get there early to beat the lunch rush, there will be a line...but it's worth it! Stick to what they ate famous for, the huge BLT and malts and you'll leave very full and very happy!
Luigi G. taco707
We were really looking forward to the big bacon sandwich. The bacon had no flavor, which was disappointing. The place was clean and service was good!
G Spann
I tell you the heartache BLT is to seriously die for, lol. Service was omg fast and kind. I love this Original Place
Scott Keele
Oldest family owned business in St Louis. Totally worth the trip and the wait. Their chocolate is phenom! Their chocolate malt... ooolala!
Zachary Maddux
Always love the place, been coming here since I was 5. Today for my 21st birthday, I ordered a BLT, little did I know I would be playing a game of Bacon Jenga. It looked like 9-18 strips of bacon polled high, held by a skewer. Most beautiful sandwich I've had in my life so far!
James Mitchell
There is something about soda fountain places that I just love. Had a wait to get in but the wait was definitely worth it. The staff was very friendly and the food was excellent.
Frank Sullivan
Had the BLT. Man, like a pound of bacon on it. The best BLT I ever had. Go get yourself one.
Joel Armstead
I've heard about this place for years growing up in St.Louis but had never been before today. OMG! WHY DID I WAIT? The BLT (or Heart Attack sandwich as my sister called it) was phenomenal! I could only eat half and had to bring the rest home! We will definitely be back!👍🏽 …
Dawn Rose
A great historic experience. A real soda fountain! The sandwiches were enormous and tasty. The ice cream was very creamy, but the flavoring tasted artificial. Strawberry didn't really taste like strawberries.
Monica H
Short wait time to be seated. Of course the BLT was awesome, but so was my strawberry milkshake! I couldn't have one without the other!!! Wonderful day out!
Justin Dake
Amazing sandwiches, the best malts you'll ever have, and quick service when they're not slammed. I was seated, ate, and left in 30 minutes on a weeknight. Can't beat that.
Daniel bell
Awesome place I loved this place as a child and I love it still if you want a nice sandwich where the kitchen is not scared to give you meat you most definitely I have come to the right place. The Reuben is delicious its my go to , I don't eat pork but I've seen The BLT it looks crazy awesome. I'm always eating the Swedish fish from this place because what the heck ? it is a candy store and the ice cream is even or awesome 👌10 stars staff is super nice and for some reason the water seems to be colder here lol just kidding but I love this place .
Just Doit
Nice size portions, good food… super cute
Alina Luchianenco
Omg! Their Heavenly Hash will restore your faith in humanity. Otherwise, great food, friendly staff, family run business. Definite must see if you’re visiting St. Louis. Wonderful spot to buy sweet gifts for family and friends .
Staci Stift
Love this spot. Always try to take people by when they are in from out of town. Also one of my favorite go to’s with my family when we can make it over there. The BLT and a chocolate banana malt is my favorite every time. Still family owned and family run. Don’t be put off by where they’re located, trust me it’s worth it. If there is a line, just wait it out. It’s worth it.
Kelly Stahlman
It doesn't get any better than this place. Except for the massive BLT'S, oh and the chocolate malts of course.
TheInfamousCK1 THEInfamousONE
If you haven't been here or you have and gave it less than 5 stars then you must not be liked or you didn't have the right meal. Fantastic in all departments!
Dave Chana
Awesome place with a vintage atmosphere. Very clean, staff was super friendly, and the sandwiches and milkshakes were fantastic. Highly recommend if you are visiting the St Louis area.
Freddie Williams
Awesome staff, get there early or prepare for a wait. Had the BLT and a strawberry shake.
Sally Sheahan
We shared a BLT and added candy to go. Should have gotten a malt with it! Wonderful
David Archer
Excellent old school soda fountain!
Great food. Good portions.
David Behlmann
Awesome, Nostalgic, and Yummy! The staff was attentive, very nice, and really helpful. The Reuben Sandwich didn't disappoint and was delicious. The shakes were so good, and the ice cream sundaes were amazing. We stood in line for about 20 minutes, but went early to avoid the lunch rush. Parking was by meter, but within steps of the door. Walked out with nonpareils and chocolate covered blueberries from the candy counter, which are all wonderful. We will definitely be going back! Also will remember that you can order candy on line at Christmas.
DC
First time going here and this is a really cool experience! I ordered a BLT that has like a pound of bacon stacked, you will definitely need to exercise those jaw muscles to tackle this beast. This place is a must go if you are ever near it, the atmosphere was like stepping back into the 50's or 60's. The kiddos loved the malts and sandwiches. I ordered a BLT and strawberry malt, the prices were very fair, the service was on point and the portions were HUGE!
Mary Devonshire
Good food, adorable interior. Makes you feel like you're stepping back in time.
Devon Ellis
Lettuce and tomato sandwich with a smidge of bacon. Crown Candy is a Saint Louis classic that never dissapoints. Get a blt and a milkshake!
Roxane M.
Had a wonder experience here! Line was long outside but moved fast. Service was exceptional! We ordered the huge BLT and if we lived here we would order it with every visit. We got the Oreo milkshake and the Johnny rabbit! They were one of the best milkshakes we've ever had!!! We assume it was their amazing ice cream! We left with some chocolates and candy and we're not disappointed. We highly recommend you visit for a BLT and Milkshake!
Jackolyn Spain
Not a lot of seating, but it IS worth the wait. The food is yummy and the staff is friendly.
Andrew Stephens
Still the best Reuben I’ve had. Love the old school feel and service is always top notch.
Robin Richard
The BLT lives up to the hype. Chocolate banana malt is fantastic. Really enjoy the atmosphere here.
tate wind
What a beautiful little place. As soon as you step through the door you are transported back to a simpler time with middle 20th century ambience. The food( while simple) hits the spot for a full meal. The ice cream is Exquisite as well.
J Lehmkuhl
Nice old time feeling restaurant.
Friendly staff.
Food was good and big portions
Kara S
I wanted to be in love.....shared grilled cheese, very delish sandwich done right. Ordered what appeared to be stawberry chocolate chip ice cream because that's what the seasonal side said, but two separate scoops came, one strawberry, one chocolate chip, ok, no big deal. Ordered malted chocolate banana shake. Server asked if we wanted whipped cream and nuts and we said sure!
Both items come without whipped cream or nuts, I take a drink and no banana. We don't say anything about whipped cream but I do let her know about banana. She said they would remake the malt. They did, still no whipped cream.
All other shakes had whipped cream, so not sure what was happening there, kind of bummed about that. Waitress does not use a pad, but clearly had some memory issues.
The bacon sandwiches just kept coming to tables and they look delish! IF I go back I will try that.
Went at a time where there was no wait for a table, so that made it better. Just sad it wasn't an awesome experience, that's what I was hoping for.
chriskennedy100 Kennedy
Nice little spot to check out and reminisce, and the food is good, etc. But the place has a more "touristy" feel it rather than an authentic diner vibe (like Courtesy Diner, Chili Mac's, etc.). Food options are also limited, and they don't even serve fries! Plus the queue to get inside.. Basically, I would say, if you live in St Louis, you should check it out sometime, but if you're only in two for a short time, you wouldn't miss much by skipping this one.
Patty Hellmer
Just go! Order the heart-stopping BLT!
Christopher Hickey
Always a great experience. Out of this world chocolate milkshakes. And the bacon/turkey melt and chili are the best in town. Please keep supporting this Old North landmark!
Stanley Johnson
Worth the money if you're a bacon lover then eat up super big BLT and homemade shakes.
Audrey Toole
Last week we had a chance to check out a few cool things in STL that my son had never experienced. One being going up in the Arch, the other was Crown Candy!!!! I was so excited that it was exactly as I remember it at his age. The reuben was think and full of crispy sauerkraut and tender corned beef. The chili was real chili! No beans. And delicious. My mom loved her tamale and the kiddo loved picking out candy and pouring hus own huge strawberry milkshake.
Nancy Harding
We went about 2:15pm to beat the lunch hour rush. We had a delightful waitress and didn't wait very long for our lunch. Crown Candy had a very nice old style decor with little juke boxes at each table and so much history to read about posted on the walls. I would highly recommend visiting.
DRMORTY Morty
Great food and throwback experience and look forward to the next time we are in town
Trisel Blau
A definite "must try" if visiting downtown St. Louis. Excellent food, old time soda/sandwich/sweets/ice cream shop. Very pleasant staff. Dos was delivered quick and with a smile. The seating is tight and you may have to wait a bit but it is worth the wait for the experience.
Missy Bridges
Never a disappointment with anything you order! The tamales with chili is one of our favorites. We love this place!
John Chou
What a nice surprise! Full of character! I had an excellent Reuben sandwich and chocolate shake for lunch. We ate outdoors at the tables across the street. Wish I took pictures.
Ke-Bow Gregory
They gotta huge bacon sandwich we love and goid ice cream
Carol Dorsey
Friendly staff, clean restaurant, delicious food and candy. BLT & chocolate malt Hut the spot.
Sir Knukles
Fantastic old North St. Louis candy shop, but the real reason to go is the sandwiches and shakes!
Anita Learned
The heart stopper BLT is the best! And the chocolate marshmallow malt was awesome!
Kristen Collins
Been coming here since the 70's...and No .. I haven't reached 60 either... 😂
Dawn
Great service and amazing candy! Highly recommended
Dion Cap
Delicious as always! Server was amazing! Great experience once again!
Justin Noble
One of STL's most famous food joints. Get the BLT, you can't go wrong with it. Hope you LOVE bacon because you'll get all you can handle and then some. Seriously, they throw like a whole pound of thick cut crispy bacon in between some bread, a slice of lettuce and tomato and some Mayo. It definitely has the potential to be a messy time but oh so delicious! Stop in, try the BLT, a shake and bring your appetite!!!
Angel
I simply love this place, from the milk shakes to the homemade candy. This place is a dream haven for both a child and an adult. Not to mention the mouth watering BLT. Once you've had there's no other will do. It's worth the drive, the wait and the price. Customer service is on point also.
I will tell others and I will be back soon.
stacie smith (Doindamost)
Very friendly and clean,social distancing &😷 wearing. The BLT is 🔥, enough bacon 🥓 for dinner & breakfast 2morrow. 😆 🤣 …
Mike Maessen
Been going here for years, parking is tough and why does city make people pay to park on street when you come from miles around to support this iconic Business?
Michelle Bowen
We celebrated our daughter's sweet 16 here. As always, the staff is amazing and the food is great. Their BLT and any icecream are why most people come. It's a fun step back in time.
Dean Christiansen
Dude. It is a St Louis landmark. A must see. What can I say. First the place is typically packed and there is a wait. It is well worth the wait. There is not a parking structure yoi must park on the street. The ice cream selextions are amazing from sundaea to malts. The candy selection is great. The entres are solid dinee type fare. The classic blt is amazing. Take in the ambiance and enjoy a truely unique dining experience.
Angela Deer
Great food and service! Original old time atmosphere we really liked it!
Erika
Found this place via a documentary and had to stop by once I visited STL! Enjoyed the vibe, food and customer service.
Ian Silber
Great service and food. Unique interior. Also make all their own ice cream!
Mike Tofari
Always a great outing!
100 degree day, short wait outside with cold water available, food fantastic, wonderful experience. Gotta love it!
LAURA MARTIN
Great place to eat to good prices be willing to wait in line
Stephanie Shackelford
Crown Candy Kitchen is a St.Louis tradition and for good reason their Easter candy is well worth the line and the extra money versus boxed chocolate rabbits at the store. The food is also do good as well as their fabulous malts and ice cream!!😊😊 …
Jim Bellizzi
The service is great, they handle the line well and it moves faster than expected. They put care into safety and covid protocols , thank you there. Finally, great sandwiches, and I am not a dessert person but the sundaes are def a must get. Place looks fantastic with the updated design too.
John Krzyanowski
Great sandwiches and ice cream. We will stop by again for a malt.
RONNIE M
Sweet place w the charm of yrs past atmosphere. The chocolates for Easter were nice small treats. Got about 5, and a fat elephant for Mom (her favorite]
Kevin S
I went there for the first time. I had always heard about it, but never been. It is one of those pretty cool hole in the wall places. I say that with affection. We ordered a BLT and Malt. The BLT is ridiculously big with a lot of bacon. The malt was very tasty and again plenty of it. We went during the week around 2:00 pm and we sat right away. Even at that time, there were just a two or three tables open. The service is very quick. Definitely a cool thing to go especially if you have not been before.
Craig Zander
Great old fashion dinner . Had Ruben and chocolate , cherry shake . Both where very good . Wife had turkey sandwich . Wow tons of turkey on it . She also had strawberry shake . A wonderful lunch .
Ashley Hamilton
I have been visiting this place since I can remember. The best BLT in st. Louis. Their malts and shakes are to die for. Their homemade candy is just absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. They do get busy fast i always order ahead and pick up.
Joe Kibler
Local legend. Don't think about it; do it. BLT and Vanilla malt are to die for
Glenn Buford
This place is amazing. I am mad at myself for being in STL 32 years and just now trying this place. I will keep coming back.
James Moore
I took my daughter to Crown Candy to reward for being amazing and to have her very first Banana Split. The staff was friendly and courteous. They were fast and our 🍧 were delicious!!!! My daughter enjoyed it and even talked me into purchasing some chocolate covered Oreos...Yum!!!! When you get a chance be sure to stop by for ice cream or even a meal.....or BOTH
Sonya Wood
I really enjoyed the food here and the atmosphere. Wasnt too thrilled about waiting in line out in the hot sun but it was worth it.
Jonathan Fernandez
Decent BLT, ice cream shake was better, what would make the place 5* would be french fries. Yet I understand limitations of certain locations
Cheryl Linder
Delicious food, my first time there, I got the BLT loaded bacon Awesome and ice cream shakes great as well, also the Chocolate is So Good!! Scary neighborhood for me, I always wanted to go and check them out, something else off my bucket list marked off, great atmosphere too!
James M Wilson
Quick friendly service, clean, well kept store, and inviting atmosphere for eating and shopping.
Purchase lunch to go. Ruben sandwich with pickle, ice tea with lemon, and Uncle Sam ice cream Sundae 🍨 😋 😊
Very filling meal for one, eat half the sandwich 🥪 and saved the other for the next day 😋 👌. Even as a cold sandwich 🥪 the Ruben was delicious and filling 😋 😀 👌
Heather Sheppard
An adorable 50’s style diner filled with vintage memorabilia on the walls. Diner-style food is simple & malted milkshakes are delicious.
Jamie Lloyd
Omg!! Hahah 1st time.. and that BLT is HUGE!!! SHAKE WAS AWESOME!!
Erin Eads
Food was great. Environment was an old fashioned malty shop. Staff were friendly. Prices were great.
Aaron Roberts
Today was my first time visiting after thinking about going for years. So glad we did! I had the BLT, chili, and a crown sundae. She had loaded baked potato soup and a roast beef and cheddar melt with a chocolate and marshmallow sundae. All was awesome! We bought candy to take with us on the way out.
Jessica Miranti
Tiny quaint. The malt was the best!
jason freeman
The BLTs are fantastic! I'm not a huge fan of mayo, or store bought tomatoes, but I didn't mess with their perfection. There was so much perfectly cooked bacon on it that more fell off than is usually on a sandwich anywhere else. Even half the sandwich (they bring it cut in 1/2), was a 2 hander. Definitely worth a trip over to this gem. Sidenote: I am not an ice cream person either, but felt I had to here, and it was pretty great.... ill be paying for that later.
David Frazier
Always good food and friendly staff. The wait usually isn't long and is definitely worth it.
JC Chanowsky
Holy bacon! Mouth watering meals with delicious shakes if you happened to save room for more. Highly recommend.
Lana K French-Minnala
Absolutely loved it!! Employees are happy and upbeat!! A tiny bit expensive, but, very generous on amounts and portions. Take the kids once a month for ice cream. Have lunch with a good friend.
April Bryant
Plan accordingly. the line is worth the wait. you can take out and eat across the street at picnic tables. the banana shake is divine
Zach Wedel
Heartstopping BLT was delicious. Chocolate milkshake was just the right consistency.
chris williams
The heart stopper blt is the best. You can share with a friend and another friend and still be full and satisfied. I cant wait for the next one
Jenna Schwan
Love the BLT! With covid, they had a take out line in addition to the indoor dining. We did take out and ate across the street. Very enjoyable! If you go, dont forget to get a malt ❤
T Lewis
This was the only place during our visit to St Louis that lived up to its reputation. Friendly service and atmosphere. The neighborhood looks sketchy but everyone was nice no one bothered us. The ice cream was beyond delicious! You can taste the extra butter fat. Lots of variety. The ice cream is velvety smooth. The best vanilla, chocolate. The pineapple orange was also delicious. The caramel and chocolate sauces were exceptional. The butter roasted pecans left me speechless. We also purchased peanut and almond clusters. Very tasty and just the right bite size. Thank you for giving us at least one great dining experience before leaving.
Roy Parker
Historic landmark. Pretty cool old place. Its in a very bad part of town. U were warned. I enjoyed the nostalgia but the malt was nothing special. I did not get the huge bacon sandwich but it looked very good. I had to wait in line about 30 min. I am glad to say ive been, but wouldn't wait again. Its a bit over priced and the food didnt impress me. Its obvious most like it since there is always a line. I had a roast beef sandwich. It was good. I just wouldnt wait in line for it.
Elizabeth Hefley
This place is AWESOME and I love the heart attack on a plate and the milkshakes are to die for!!!! I also love the heavenly hash candy that they make in the store because it is the perfect balance of chocolate marshmallows and pecans!!!! I just love everything about this place from the food to the people who work there to the entire atmosphere inside and outside while your visting!!!! Can't wait to go back!!🥰😎🥰
James Wilson
Stop to purchase take-out meal for lunch. BLT and malt.
BLT a well filling sandwich of rye bread, lettuce, tomato 🍅, mayo, and fully cooked bacon 🥓, like a pound pile high, Uncle Sam Malt a specialty of Crown Candy, and ice tea drink with lemon 🍋.
Delicious meal and filling for hungry customer's at anytime. All menu items are great options to choose from to enjoy and satisfy your favorite, taste, and hunger 😀 😋 😉 😊
James Leonard
I've been going to Crown's since I was a kid in the 60's! The best malts ever made! I usually pair a vanilla malt with a bowl of their great chilli! Also, try their giant BLT sandwich, or the roast beef sandwich. Heck, even their grilled cheese is great! All their homemade ice cream and candy is fantastic! A little pricey, but worth it! Be aware they have limited seating, and may have a wait line, but you can also get your order to go.
Shel L
Was in today & had the heart stopping BLT.
Ohhh my goodness was it good!!❤ No room for ice cream today. I was a little sad about that, but on the other hand a good reason to go back soon😉😊 They are so friendly & nice. Serve was really fast & spot on. Beautiful old building so happy to see it still going. If you get a chance to visit I highly recommend it. ❤❤❤
candace watts
Amazing! My husband and I were visiting from out of state and this was a place we were told we needed to visit. I got the BLT and a chocolate milkshake because other reviews said that they were the best. They were not wrong! You get such a good amount of food! My milkshake filled my glass 3 times! We also grabbed some candy before we left because who can say no to a good old jawbreaker!
Jonathan Briggs
Definitely not your usual lunch stop! I came solely for the BLT which had more bacon on it than recommended amount to eat within a week. I also tried one of their shakes which was good. I came on a really busy day and had to wait outside in a line for a while until there was room for our group to sit down. The waiting took a really long time, but there was a man playing a steel drum right by us for visitors to enjoy while we waited. I probably wouldn’t go again unless it was a special occasion and we had time to spare though.
The Black Sheep
Great food, great chocolate and shakes. A bit pricey but exceptional food and they give you large portions. Old time St Louis confectionary, takes you back decades. Often very long lines at lunch but not so bad later in the day. Better to go late afternoons or dinner time. Hood isn't THAT bad, just lock your car and park nearby and you'll be fine.
Tom Thompson
The BLT and a marshmallow shake were incredible.
Duane Powell
A St. Louis institution. An old fashion ice cream palor/candy shop/diner. A must visit for new residents to the area. Great shakes and ice cream, good food, candy (I didn't try any), and great atmosphere. The service was friendly and relatively fast.
Josh G
You have to try the BLT! Great food always happy employees. And worth the wait!
Jody Fasnacht
We've stopped here twice when passing through St. Louis. The owners and employees are fantastic and the malts live up to their reputation! There was a line for a table outside, but we just placed an order and took out malts to go. Parking is metered, but pretty easy to find.
debbie burger
Great food and service! Come hungry because the portions are large!
bernard5821
Had a taste for ice cream and had heard Crown Candy was one of the best local options. Selection is limited to about 9 choices. I tried strawberry and oreo flavors. I enjoyed it but didn't find it to to be much better than the other popular options.
Thomas Coriell
Best old time ice cream shop around. Gotta try a malt and the humongous BLT. Steel drum guy out front is awesome
Ebony C (ebonyjerzeygirl)
Be prepared to have a huge appetite otherwise you'll be taking half your sandwich home
patrick mckechan
Great place the blt is the best I've never had anything bad here
J T
Amazing place! Best milkshake I’ve ever had(cherry). So good with the delicious Reuben sandwich.
Thomas Askins
Great place to eat and get some candy or a malt the BLT had at least a pound of bacon on it. It was about 4 9r 5 inches high. The waitress was very friendly and fast. The Roast beef and cheddar was very good also. The prices were good because the sandwiches are huge and delicious the ice cream and candy is very good my friends little girl got Lego candy you can really make things out of them and eat them 8 bucks a pound. Its an historic place also been there for a long time. Its run by the 3rd generation of owners. Great place
Alan Arakaki
I like getting the BLT here and it is great, I usually only eat half off it and then eat the other half later. While it cost $13 for a sandwich & chips, it is worth it for 2 meals.
Miesha Rice
Portion size was extraordinary!! I didn't eat in but will try another day. Person at the door was nice and efficient though.
David Segers
Luv the malts and the rootbeer float. Had the chef salad and BLT and they are good and crazy big could only eat half of both.
Luigi D
Really long wait for basic diner food. The prices are really great but waiting 45 minutes for a Turkey sandwich or Reuben is more than I'm ready for. It's definitely worth at least one visit just for the nostalgic feel.
Candy looked more expensive than I was willing to pay.
I will say the staff is incredible though. Friendly and efficient. They manage their lines very well and do offer to-go orders.
Check ahead to see when they are less busy and you've definitely got yourself a great lunch option.

My friend and I had some Hot Fudge Sundaes this afternoon. We arrived about 1:30 on a Thursday, and had to wait outside about 40 minutes. The only reason we got in so quickly, was a two-seater table opened up for us. Small restaurant, about 20 tables, and boy do they pack you in! Our seats were tight, but not uncomfortable.
The sundaes were good, but the price ($5) seemed a bit high. We got them in to-go cups, so we also got a (free?) souvenir cup from our visit.
The sandwich prices also seemed high ($10 for BLT, Reuben, a few others) until I saw some being brought to other tables. They were BIG, with lots of meat on them. So, next time, I'll have to try a sandwich here. Service was very good, our waitress was hopping around like crazy, but made sure everyone at her tables were taken care of.
The restaurant opened in 1913, and it almost seems like you step back in time when eating here. Very cool interior!
So, good restaurant with good food and good service, although expect to pay a little extra for the old-time atmosphere.

Yummm!! The coldest shake on a hot day. We went after visiting the zoo. Love the old fashioned ice cream parlor design. Warning... there is only one bathroom so be quick.
tara thompson
Very busy for a Saturday dine-in lunch (line out the door). We staff we chose counter service takeout. delicious candy: peanut butter cups Snappers and cordial cherries are the best we've had

We have wanted to try Crown Candy for a while, and we finally did on a summer Friday afternoon. The wait is an issue, but it's all part of the experience. We planned on it. The seating is pretty snug for a family of 5. I love the atmosphere inside. The food was great. From the BLT (which is you should try at least once) to the legendary shakes, we had our fill and it was all excellent. The one blemish is the cost. We spent a lot of money for sandwiches with chips and milkshakes. It seemed a little steep, but it's definitely a St. Louis experience worth a stop.
Jenna Miller
Food is as delicious as everyone says! Surprising, the service was great too!!!
Mason Shubirg
The food here is legendary. The BLT is something to die for. The milkshakes are seemingly endless. The whole menu is worth trying. The restaurant is a personal favorite of mine. As soon as you see the outside of the building you're transported to the past. When you walk in, you forget what year it is as you find yourself surrounded by simpler times and an arousing aroma of fantastic food fill your nostrils. Crown Candy is more than a Kitchen, it's an experience.
Brittany Hanson
Quaint, hidden gem right in the outskirts of St. Louis. The building is small and had about a dozen tables in the restaurant, but service was fast and great! Had a banana chocolate malt (absolutely delicious!) and a turkey bacon melt (indescribably mouthwatering)! We only waited for about a half hour for a table and received our food quick and hot!
Gina Broadus
Such a fun place! Staff and customers were all so nice! Food was good, and ice cream delicious!
Richard Homuth
Absolutely the biggest and best BLT you have ever seen. They also have ice cream and shakes as well as candy.
Kathy Brazzle
What can you say about Crowns Candy. AWESOME
Steve Ole Olson
A St Louis institution that offers a menu families have been enjoying for years. Milkshakes and the candy counter are standouts,
Sherry Smith
This place is small but very unique. The tables are only seat four total. We had a chair Sydney at the end as there were 5 of us. They offer sandwiches and ice cream. The service is fast and friendly. I would highly recommend it as it is still in its original location from many years. 2 of my dining partners had the big bacon sandwich. 2 of my other diners had cheese sandwiches. I had him sandwich. We all had ice cream. I would certainly go again. The neighborhood parking is a pain as it is on a street in the city but we lucked out and found a spot close. It's certainly worth a try.

This little charmer has been around since 1913 delighting the tastebuds of young and old alike. Inside the architectural throwback you'll find vintage booths and signage, as well as two well run operations. There's an old fashioned diner with a diminutive soup and sandwich menu which includes the world's grandest BLT and excellent three generous scoop malteds. Then there's the candy operation, chock full of handmade chocolates, licorices, and hard candies. This is a must stop in and try for anyone visiting St Louis!
Amy H
You can't go wrong at the local place. Great service and great food. Bring change for the parking meters.

Saw this place on Man vs. Food and had to check it out. First off - no instructions on what to do when we first got there at about 12:15 and there was a line. Asked around and no one really knew either. They were just standing there because everyone else was. There's a line that forms for seating into the dining area and another that forms to just go in and visit their candy bar. When we were there, there wasn't a line at all for the candy, you could just go right in. If you're wanting to eat, seating is pretty limited, but they get you in and out pretty quick without rushing you so the wait in line isn't too bad. If you are visiting with a group larger than five people, you wouldn't all be able to sit together. We had sandwiches that were really good. (Reuben and turkey melt) The malts were top notch! Those alone would be worth a revisit. Waitress was very nice and explained menu items to us patiently. There's tons of stuff to look at on the walls which added to the nostalgic atmosphere.
Kelly Long
BLT is a must. So yummy. Any kind of malt is delicious too. Of course you should have at least a taste of their famous chocolate too. Wear your elastic band pants.
Sharri Branson
Love this place! Our very favorite Ice Cream place. And the Egg Salad Sandwich is the best!!
Shellie Yale
Had the blt and a marshmallow malt. In love 🥰 hubby had roast beef and son had a turkey melt and a cherry Sunday. Fabulous chocolate too.
Fighting Mimi
Had a great time with old friends. Waitress seemed to want us out pretty fast but we didn't let it bother us. Food was good, malt was good. Can finally say I've been there. STL staple!
Reneé QPittman
The customer service was phenomenal! I didn't have to wait in line I had quick and efficient service. I've been here in St Louis for approximately 20 years and I have always heard about this candy store. My only regret is that it has taken me so long to experience the "Ole school ice cream parlor!" My suggestion to anyone would be...if you haven't been, then please be wiser than me by not procrastinating the pleasure of experiencing Crown Candy on St. Louis Ave....🤯🧚🤗😍
Kenny Boswell
The place was awesome! Loved that its been around for so long! The food and shakes were amazing and filling! Definitely worth the wait. Customer service was top notch also. Great job guys!
Kelly Horton
Today (10/22/20) was such a beautiful day here in St. Louis. I just recently relocated here from Houston, TX. I wanted to take my mother out for lunch and given that she is literally 4 min from Crown Candy we decided to walk and take advantage of this nice weather. The experience was simply amazing. The restaurant is clean, service impeccable and the food was delicious. We were so impressed and can’t wait to go back for the malts. Thank you Crown Candy! You made 2 happy customers 💞💞
Eli Williams
First of all I love the candy cannot go wrong there. But I wanted to try their menu and I ended up getting a sandwich that came with chips and a pickle turkey and bacon and it was no small sandwich it was a huge sandwich and it was actually very delicious. My friend order a roast we sandwich what there was no dressing on the sandwich whatsoever but there was plenty of roast beef. the serving staff seems to be really attentive and took excellent care of us and the chili was delicious. My only complaint is that the restaurant just is not big enough. And it definitely does not accommodate larger people.
Catherine Westholt
My first visit, and it won't be my last! I had the BLT sandwich and chocolate banana malt. SO good!! That sandwich must have had a pound of bacon, or close to it. I had to bring half of it home. I also bought some of their hand crafted chocolates. Yum!
It is so quaint and cute inside. You step back in history.
Rayleen W.
We came here on the recommendation of a local and weren't disappointed! The sandwiches are a great value, each one was about the size of two sandwiches and especially enjoyed the Turkey Special. Even though the shakes are at least $5 apiece, they're large portions. Three shakes easily took care of five people in our group. Definitely a must for the experience. The atmosphere is great and really feels like you stepped back in time! It was very slow when we went, around 2 or 3 o'clock on a Tuesday, and we pretty much had the place to ourselves without a wait to get in. I would definitely recommend it and will be back if I'm in the area :)
Dorohty Frese
It was wonderful my ice cream was WOW
Jason LiCavoli
Classic St. Louis place. Do yourself a favor and get the BLT. I try different desserts, but I always get the BLT. Plan for a wait, because this place is small. But service is pretty quick and the food and price is fantastic. They also have an awesome selection of candy at the old school candy bar. Location is a little rough, but has gotten much better in the past 10 years. So happy to support great local establishments like Crown Candy!
Roger Mahn
I lived in St Louis since 1965 and did not know about this place till this year. A small place that has 2 or 4 person booths and can probably sit 36-40 max. This is important since the line is always out the door at busy times, so expect to wait unless you go at an odd hour. As their name suggests, they sell candy of many home made varieties, but, based on our visit, folks came for the food on the menu.
Their sandwiches aren't complicated in regards to ingredients, but are large and very good. 4 of us split 2 heart stoppin BLTs and a half sandwich had over 1/3 pound of bacon and included chips and a pickle spear. A whole sandwich was only $10, so splitting one was a real deal. The other thing to get is a shake, malt or sundae. Everyone at our table really enjoyed theirs.
Worth the wait and we will be going back!
Sierra Crump
Quaint place tucked away in St. Louis. Food and customer service were great. Quick service, reasonable prices and fun spot overall. Shakes and the BLT are a must when stopping here.
Tom Meerschaert
Great sandwich and shake. Bring your appetite. Not for folks on a diet
Lots of history, a great experience.
2 Nushuz
Had the classic chocolate malt and BLT sandwich. Delish 😋 …
Nicole T
Love this place! Delicious and a lot for your money!
Shane Morris
Like stepping back into 1920s St Louis. Old school candy awesome place
Stephanie Roddy
Food is ice cream is excellent. It is worth every penny. I ordered a BLT and OMG they put so much bacon. This BLT was the bomb! I'm sure it is like the best in Saint Louis. Crowne Candy yall can also just put half the amount of bacon that you all put and it would still be immaculate. I will order again but will probably ask for extra mayo, extra lettuce and extra tomato because I would like to taste more of that too but no complaints. Yummy!
Brian Sandri
Food was decent but nothing that was really exceptional. Had BLT which has a pound of bacon on it so that was good but mostly standard aside from amount of bacon. Shakes and malts were very good however and would recommend! Neighborhood seemed a bit dodgy and suggestion was to go during the day. Wait staff was friendly but seemed to disappear at times and some things could only be made by manager which seemed odd. Overall was nice to try but would likely go back to Ted Drew's
Terra Brown (Goobergirl)
My boyfriend brought me here for a late lunch/early dinner for my birthday. I had been here before several years prior and in addition to enjoying some really good food, I wanted to show him one of the oldest, continuously operating establishments in the city.
We were greeted as soon as we walked in and told to sit wherever we wanted. We grabbed a booth and a young lady took our order. We got the Heart Attack BLT and a chocolate malt. Both were very good.
The place still looks the same, which was really cool. You can tell that there's a lot of history there! My boyfriend really got a kick out of the decor and the mini jukeboxes on the tables.
The only bad thing about this place is the location. They've been there since 1913 and I'm sure the neighborhood has undergone many changes since then. Currently, the area is in dire need of some new life in the form of development and some major cleanup. Many of the adjoining buildings are boarded up or have their doors and windows barred up.
If you're looking for a tasty, inexpensive lunch or dinner and you'd like to see a bit of local history while you're at it, then a stop at Crown Candy Kitchen is definitely in order!
Chris Flanigan
What's not to like here? Great food. Great ice cream. This is a St. Louis institution.
Come here and support them. Come here and support them! Like everywhere, COVID has hit them hard. But, let's keep it around for another hundred years.
William Sommer
The best milk shake maybe in the US. A lot of different flavors. A lot of people in line so get there early. The sandwiches are pretty good but pretty fatty! The BLT is out of this world, so much bacon.... A BLT and a milk shake and you set for your next heart attack! So worth it though!!
Barbara Gittemeier
We kept hearing about this place and we finally decided it was time to visit. Best ice cream around!
Tyrell Shoemaker
The ice cream was amazing! Do yourself a favor and go check it out. My wife and I split a sundae and our three girls (7-3-2) shared a double scoop. It was more than enough for all of us. A friend for the BLT, it looked delicious and I don't even like tomatoes, but that much bacon is hard to deny. Just go!
Jason Neel
Great place to go to grab a solid lunch and dessert! I would suggest a roast beef with all the fixings. In addition a solid Sunday really hits the spot. Parking is pretty tough to find and parking on the street might me more often than not. The chocolate that is all hand made is also very seasonal so stock up before heading home.
Kathleen Beach
One of St. Louis' best places. It's like stepping back in time where everything is homemade and very special.
Also, if you enjoy candy, Crown Candy Kitchen's confections are simply the best.
jeremy baumgart
They dont try to short change you on bacon on your BLT here. 😂 …
TopGunnSTL
To start off this place is historic location and a staple of this city. Crown Candy of course lives up to its name by providing you some of the best made fudge and candies that are made right there at the location. This is a small place on the inside and looks to not have been updated. This of course is part of the Nostalgia it takes you back to a time where and when things were a little different. My visit was for a to go order, which I ended up ordering the local favorite The heart-stopping BLT. This is a great sandwich packed with tons of bacon the correct amount of mayo and lettuce and tomato. A great sandwich that almost anyone can enjoy.
Wendy Meese
We love stopping into this place every so often. The BLT is one of their signatures and is loaded with more bacon than you can imagine. We often split a sandwich and they bring it on 2 plates each with our own chips which is a nice touch. I love their large selection of malts as well and the chocolate banana one is my favorite. Be ready for a wait or try to come at an off time.
average joe
Great BLT!¡! Its a must try when in the area
JD
Phenomenal spot. We halved the (legendary) BLT and bowl of chili and finished with a sundae and it was STILL plenty of food. Staff was friendly and food came quickly. Love the old school vintage milkshake shop vibes and Wall-o-matic vintage individual juke box in our booth (Wish it lit up but great regardless.)
Mia B
Delicious sandwiches, shakes, and candy. I'd recommend going early or late for quicker seating. Even if you go during the lunch rush, it's worth the wait. The BLT is massive.
Josh Watters
Swung by after the St. Louis Autoshow. Fast service, good food, great prices. You can’t beat the atmosphere.
Sharon Morris
Wonderful eclectic well established Historic Landmark eatery in the city! You must try it if you live in St. Louis or are just visiting our great city. Homemade malts, candy and their famous BLT!
Kat Bradshaw
Totally sad drove over 1.5 ti find Out they close at 5PM Now I get it its for safety but all we where able to have was ice cream
Mr. Fix-It
Ice cream shake was just what I needed after a long day.
marquita rowden
The best place to get a BLT I've ever been! Amazing!! Even if you have to drive miles out of your way, do it. Clean, cheerful waitress, and memorabilia decor.
Eltoreon Hawkins
From the sandwich to the dessert I can't explain the amount of happiness every bite was 🖒💯💯💯😋 …
Deana M.
Great, friendly prompt service. Food was amazing! Do yourself a favor and go!!
Phil Martiszus
Great food super service great atmosphere. I had the turkey sandwich and the crown candy sundae. Daughter had the grilled cheese and a fruit sundae. We both thought everything tasted great. Unless you don't like ice or candy it is a must go to place
Fred Perine
My first time to visit Crown Candy Kitchen. I have heard about the large BLT that they have. Today I decided to give one a try. Me myself think it was worth the try and the money. I do plan to go back again.
Mike Luigs
Crown Candy Kitchen is the best experience you can get!! But the best part is the HEART STOPPING BLT. It's to die for. Lots of old fashion stuff and great homemade chocolate and treats!! Also the ice cream is good, the only down fall is the wait, as it usually has a line in my experience. Worth the wait
CEM Classic
I love crown candy kitchen. I usually order to go, because the Dine-in line is usually out the door and down the street. The food is worth it but I like the comfort of my own home. This place is nostalgic. Great service, great food. If you’re a Bacon lover I suggest the BLT!!! It’s to die for... literally
Rae C
This was such a quaint shoppe. Loved the strawberry milkshake and the sandwich was HUGE. Very good food. Loved the fact they had homemade candy, but didn't get any.
Carl Johnson
The Crown Candy kitchen has amazing BLT’s. The malts were really good as well. My family and I were all really glad we stopped for lunch today. We will be back again sometime. The service was also great as it was fast and our server was friendly.
lun r
What an experience. I don't know how they managed to survive all these years but I'm so happy they did. Great homemade ice cream and chocolates. They are open all year round. If there's a crowd at the door, be aware that most of that is people waiting for one of the few seats inside. If you just want to buy an ice cream or sundae use the left side. You'll get in and back out pretty quickly. There's plenty of places to eat outside. It's sort of an art district.
Meghan H
Staple of St. Louis since the early 1900s. The heart stopping BLT is obviously delicious, and probably the most famous menu item.
However my lifetime favorite is the chili dog, complimented by a strawberry banana shake. Heavenly and pure bliss.
Every piece of homemade candy I've tried is worth 5-times anything store-bought.
Service is always great and fast, but be prepared to wait, likely outside, for awhile. The place (original location since 1913) is small, and crowds have gotten bigger as word has gotten out. It's still busy during off hours, but those, weekdays and non-holidays are best.
Dawn McNamee
Great food with some history on the side! Seating is first-come first-served, so prepare to wait outside. The tables are all 4 and 2 top, so large groups will have to split up. Their food is great, especially the tamale with chilli and the ice cream and candy are divine!
Ryan Brown
Always the best experience. Go hungry because their BLT will fill you up. But don't leave without a malt, even if you have to undo your pants to enjoy it.
Jessica Atkins
Awesome little place. Hubby had turkey bacon melt and was full after half of it was gone. I had the ultimate cheese with bacon. Was delicious. Will be back again.
Barry G
Step back in time to a simpler world. Although some things have changed Crown Candy still keeps the nostalgia alive and well. Huge portions at very reasonable prices. Everyone loved their food and especially dessert ! The Turkey melt with bacon is one of my favorites. Always nice service as well.
Come either really early or late in the day or during off hours to try and avoid the wait. Unlike modern day restaurants where you give your name and then a hostess calls you, at Crown Candy there is simply a line. No lists or pagers - just a line. A wait is worth it. Extra bonus...just across the street you get a terrific view of the Arch in the distance !
aaa3168
The line is always out the door and you have to wait 45 min, BUT it's always worth it! The old-time candy shop atmosphere is fun. The BLT was huge and had perfectly crispy bacon. And you have to get a shake or malt; I love the Chocolate Marshmallow malt! I always have lots of leftovers.
Rose Gagnon
You get this feeling of time travel when you enter. And the food was amazing. I got their ham and cheese sandwich, and the best way I can describe the cheese pull is it's grilled cheese with ham in the center. And I also get their chocolate turtles. So rich and creamy.
Alyssa Carter
The exterior of the building and the neighborhood it’s in might make you question going inside, but you need to do it! The ice cream was absolutely amazing and the staff were some of the nicest people we talked to in St. Louis. The prices are incredibly reasonable and I highly recommend Crown Candy Kitchen for anybody
Jesus Ornelas
We went again for our Friday lunch. Our office manager likes to buy certain candy from their for her family during the Christmas season. Some plates can be a bit pricey and their candy definitely is priced outside my comfortable price zone. I did splurge though and got a pound of sugar free chocolate for my beautiful wife. I will say though that some of the pricier played can be shared between two people. I did try a tamale. In my honest opinion it was ok. Not much tamale for the price. Not much by way of sugar free candy but at least the few they do offer are very good. I bought a half pound of two kinds of sugar candy, the total was just under $19 for the full pound of candies.
iloveitontop
The BLT is worth the wait in line! Yummy
C. “Sam” H.
Food is yummy building has a great old time feel ...but get there early there's always a line
Philip Herlitz
Yesterday, my girlfriend said she wanted to out to dinner some place out of town. She also wanted to go to a place that felt like an old-fashioned diner. She also said it needed to be a place neither of us had been before. So, I decided to put google to work.
So, we drove 30-40 minutes to find Crown Candy Kitchen and we weren't disappointed. The BLT is mostly bacon. Lots and Lots of bacon. But, it was good. I added some of my left over bacon to a sandwich I had for lunch today.
We also tried the "Big Cheese" which is a grilled cheese sandwich with 4 different cheeses. Not bad.
The Malts were good. However, their candy shop was too expensive for my taste. Definitely a place we will visit again.
Mike DeRemus
Best sandwich I’ve had in a while. Ice cream is great, too!
James Runge
Great shakes ( icecream made from scratch in house) and the best cornbeef sandwich.
Tom Beck
Highest stacked BLT on earth. Who wouldn't want a full pound of bacon on their sandwich?? Might as well have an amazing shake or malt while you're there too! Just don't let your sweet tooth take over when you see the homemade candy behind the counter.
Seabern Barry
Great place to go. Good food.
Mary Hoekstra
Omg!!’n what can I say!!! This is so cool. The BLT was at least a pound of bacon. Heart stopping. The prices were ok, you could actually order I sandwich and two people could share. Their candy is wonderful but kind of expensive. I can’t wait to go back.
Misty Black
Went there with a NAYC group. Looked for very local eatery and this kept coming up (we thought it was a candy store). Even asked a few locals on street about it and they all raved. Our party of 8 couldn’t get seated in same table cuz the actual restaurant is small. However, they weather was great so we ate outside across the street in the shade. We ordered that massive BLT, Ruben, Turkey BLT, and more. We also got ice cream while we waited, yum! All good! Plus they quick and priced great. While you’re there take pics with stuff outside and play that music thing.
Josh Wilson
This is such a cool place. The bacon is definitely worth paying for on any sandwich. They're extremely generous with the portions. My fiancée and I split a turkey melt with bacon and the crown Sunday which is plenty of food for 2 people and it's less than $20. I'm sure it's not healthy but what do you expect going to a place called crown candy.
sprudo
You have to try their BLT, not for the faint of heart or those who are on a diet. It's stacked with bacon. Also you have to try their shakes & malts OMG they are so good. This place is a throwback to simpler times when you could go to the local soda shop for shakes & malts. With the added bonus of Easter chocolate at that time of year. A real gem in St. Louis!
Tyler Chrestman
This place is a nice little St. Louis gem. Obviously the homemade ice cream here is fantastic. Try the BLT if you’re feeling very hungry. There’s about a pound of bacon on there that is sure to fill you up.
Steven Baucom
Always good food and environment!!
ERIK ELSEA
Love grabbing a BLT here for lunch
Steve West
Old historic building, still operating soda fountain and ice cream stand and Diner very small crowded. Had a great sandwich shared it with my , each had a tremendous ice cream that we could barely finish. A very friendly nice young waitress working for college funds, knew the history, a street musician out front playing 10 drums kept us entertained while waiting, but read the parking meters and don't pay attention to the panhandlers on the sidewalk
Tom Prewitt
What an interesting place. Had a BLT that was amazing and service was great. I also had a vanilla malt that was incredible. What a fun place to visit. I also had to buy 2 different kinds of candy to take with us. We will definitely go back. So many other things I want to try.
Tim K Midwest
Always the best!
BLT is the best in town..
But other sandwich choices are great too!
Be sure to have a malt or shake.
And take home some Crown Hash!
Lynda Klarner
My husband had the BLT and it must have had at least 1/2# of bacon! Delicious! We had a banana shake that was terrific. Service was great and the staff was very friendly. Definitely would recommend to all!
Alex Rodriguez
Best roast beef sandwich ever! Wait time was really long, but it was worth it! I ordered the marshmallow malt with banana too and it was SO good! Would definitely go back again!
Alana Collins
Love it! The BLT and chocolate malt is Amazing!! If you are a vegetarian you won't be anymore. It's always super busy so you have to get used to the long lines and cramped seating. But the waiters are awesome and I've always gotten what I ordered, no mistakes.
Raechel Carr
Love the heart attack or heart stopper. I asked for onion to be added and it was amazing!!
Matthew Rodriguez
Love the ice cream here, never had the sandwiches but they look pretty good. Small place, busy on a Wednesday afternoon @ 4pm, but worth the wait. Sundaes are amazing. Took a malt to go, also spectacular.
The booths are small, don't Come with a party more than four.
Icarus
If you’re ever in St. Louis in the daytime definitely check this place out. It is just as it was in the 50s. The food there cannot be beat for the price! Their specialty is malts and home made candy. This place literally gets a line around the block every day. Easy if you get takeout and just eat it somewhere else. Just take it back to St. Louis side south and not north if you value your life
Maria Duffy
Quick, socially distant service. BEST BLT and an amazing chocolate shake made a hot day a work worth it! No picture, because the food didnt last long enough to remember to take a picture.
Jake M
This is an unfair high rating. I waited in line but never got inside. Was in line for 15 minutes and it literally didn't move. I think it got longer because of "chat 'n cutters" Been there before about 10 years ago and it was very good. I won't wait in line for over and hour though for deli food.
Update: went back before the lunch rush. Get in line before 10:30 or be prepared to wait. Food and malts were just as good as I remember. I recommend hot ham and cheese.
Steven Francoeur
Incredible. The wife and I shared two sandwiches and couldn't finish them. The BLT had about a dozen slices of bacon; no exaggeration. And the egg salad was the best I ever had.
Wanda Rosenzweig
Where Chile turkey club bacon lettuce and tomato 3 milkshakes it was delicious like always grew up down the street from Crown Candy Kitchen I still live near there today
Michael J.
HEART STOPPING BLT!!! If you’re a bacon lover, you won’t find more bacon on a BLT outside of taking a bite directly out of the pig itself! WOW!!! Nice, friendly atmosphere packed into a small, nostalgic structure! Good food, good prices and once again if you and bacon are besties, you’ll enjoy the overly generous amount of bacon on the heart stopper!
Char Correa
The BLT, as always, is delicious! I still wish you could get it served on texas toast though. The orange cream shake is a little disappointing. Not enough orange flavor. I've had just about every flavor there and this was the only one that hasn't tasted fantastic. Last, but not least, I wish the place was a little bigger. Despite those few things, I love this place!
Edlund Lynne
Been living in STL area for years, and only just went there for the first time last week! Great experience! Tried their famous BLT. I'd say almost 1lb of bacon is on it! 3 of us spilt it. Then we got a little bit of 3 different candies, and then split a sundae. Great first time experience. It's a little restaurant, so expect a wait. We waited outdoors 15 mins, then another 15 before getting to sit down. The decor is original from the early 1900s.
Sally Rajnoha
Loved everything I had...a delicious chocolate shake and huge BLT. They also have a wonderful candy counter but I wanted to concentrate on lunch. There's usually a wait since the shop is very small, but it's well worth it. Try to go during an off time.
The surrounding neighborhood is being greatly improved. STL local
Cheryl Heitzler
Crown Candy is a must whenever you're visiting St. Louis or you're in the mood for a BLT and a malt!!!
Mikayla Henderson
One of my favorite lunch spots still around in STL. I’ll get around to doing the malt challenge one day haha
Kirk Heppe
This place is historic. Their milk shakes are amazing and huge. The BLT musy have a pound of bacon, I'm not kidding. Be prepared to wait in line. On a Saturday at lunchtime, you may wait an hour or more. The seating is a bit cramped. I'm not sure how easy it would be for someone in a wheelchair to sit comfortably.
Tim Wall
We were underwhelmed with our first ever lunch here. My wife's BLT was indeed a mountain of bacon, but it was just that. The L, T and bread were pretty run-of-the-mill. I had a Reuben that was priced the same as the BLT, but seriously didn't strike me as an $11 sandwich. I must have gotten a dud. I saw another person get a Reuben that was way larger than mine.
Unfortunately, my sandwich definitely wasn't worth the hour-long wait outside. However, it was a nice day and there was a guy playing drums, so the time passed.
Jaramaine Taylor
Even with the place being so busy, staff were extremely nice. I got take out so I got to jump the line of people waiting for a table. The Sundae I had was great. The food; chicken salad and Turkey bacon melt I had was o.k. but did not wow me. I will go back and try other menu items.
Daniel Beckman
The Malts are the best!!! And since they Opened in 1913 the have had " The 5 Malt Challenge" if you can drink 5 malts in a half hour you get them free and you get the recognition of beating their challenge. The food is excellent especially the Reuben and The heart-stopping BLT. You've never had so much bacon on one sandwich! And of course on the way out you have to get some of their amazing candy!

Crown candy kitchen is the best place to have lunch in the city. The blt is the best probably in the country. I don’t know how much bacon they put on the sandwich. I put a whole package on a sandwich and it didn’t come close. Most of the people I work with and get a blt and take a bunch of bacon off and make a couple sandwiches for dinner. Also the malts are the best I would be surprised if you could find a better malt in the world. I used to get a blt and a malt. Now I get a blt or a malt or the crown sundae vanilla store made ice cream with store made chocolate and carmel, whipped cream and pistachios. One of the reasons I love this place they have been in business for over 100 years and they never changed their recipe to try to make more money. I promise give them a shot you won’t regret it.

A must visit if you come to St. Louis!!! Candy is hand made..chocolate heaven..tasty sandwiches for lunch or supper. You must save room for dessert!! Ice cream is the best I have ever had. Ice cream sundaes are works of art..Friendly folks work here..one of the great grandsons of the original owner always working behind the counter..cool nostalgic place!

Best service. Best ice cream. Bacon bacon bacon. The BLT had... dare I say... too much bacon. Had to take some off of my sandwich in order to eat it. I was eating that bacon for 3 days!
Osiris Brown
They have the largest BLT I've ever had. The ice cream and candy are excellent too.

I have waited 15 years and three trips to this place (line was always way too long) to see what all the fuss was about. It is a retro, slightly worn wonderful piece of dining. Wow this place blew me and my family away. The BLT is crazy good, turkey melt was awesome and kids loved banana ice cream and nutter butter shake. Now I can truly say, I should have waited Years ago in those long lines now that I know what the fuss is about !! A must do in Saint louis

Friendly service and great food. Awesome milkshakes! And the BLT was intense.
Great piece of STL history and well worth the visit
Don Long
The food was good, the service was friendly, relatively quick, and accurate, and this place is a historic site. It was like walking back in time to an old ice cream/soda shop. A fun place to visit.

If you are visiting STL or you leave here and have not been there yet shame on you. Good place for lunch. You have try BLT, it’s like 2 pounds of bacon in one sandwich :) Reuben sandwich is also great. This is a place with long history so it’s worth to stop by. Their shakes are very good. Don’t forget to buy some chocolate clusters with different type of nuts...or Oreos dipped in chocolate. Yummy. I got hungry writing this post ;)

Solid sandwiches with prompt service! BLT is a must
Amy Sue (Eggy Pop)
First time at this StLouis staple. THE BLT WAS WORTH EVERY CALORIE and the butterscotch malted.. stop it. Couldn't leave without a chocolate Santa and some chocolate covered cherries. Definitely recommend
Douglas Scallorn
Love this place! The amount of bacon you get on their BLT is crazy. And the shakes are not only delicious but are also extremely large. The place is relatively small but they keep the tables turning.
Ross Coleman
The menus say it opened in 1913. You just feel the history. I got a sandwich with turkey and bacon and a banana malt. It was really, really good. In particular, the bacon is excellent, meaty and crispy instead of too fatty.
Jim Gubera
Still a great place after all these years. Malts and sandwiches are great.
Kit LaMar
Had to wait but worth it. Roast beef & cheddar sandwich then fruit salad sundae - great! Saved half of sandwich for later to have room for sundae. A St. Louis tradition that has to be followed! Don't forget the homemade chocolate shopping there.
Jason Williams
Best BLT on earth. Bring a friend you may not be able to finish it on your own. My daughter asked how we hid this place from her for 11 years.... she's 11! She had an ice cream sunday.
Annie Rataj
Order anything with bacon. OMG. So good. And the ice cream Malts are just better than anywhere else. Yum. Wish sandwiches came with fries, but potato chips is the standard.
Mic Bytes (Melliott)
Classic St Louis. This little historic building has been here since 1913 and has a great assortments of chocolates and candies. Of course there is also the heart stopping BLT with bacon stacked a mile high along with a whole menu of foods. Mmmm! And when your done you should consider having a malt or shake, they are delicious!
Nathan Owen
Their sandwiches are insanely good. But I think their Malts are the best malt I have ever had. It was very crowded and busy but their was a convention in town so it was understandable. The people were very nice too.

Great sandwiches, shakes and homemade ice cream. It is a St Louis Tradition, over 100 years old. It is in a location that maybe questionable by a out of towner, but it is a safe area. Just make sure to park right around the front or right beside the building. It is a high traffic business, so I always feel safe. And I'm a single mom. Try the Ruben sandwiches. The sandwiches are big, and if you want you can tell the waitress you are going to share it and they will bring you 2 plates with your own chips and pickle. Just save room for a shake or ice cream. The Black Cherry Ice Cream is my favorite! 😍
Tom Moloney
Spectacular chocolate malted! Outstanding BLT with a Capital Bacon! Looks like a malt shop from the 1950's. Lots of other good food. Also a nice candy store. Try it!
Lincoln Wilson
Great service even as the last person in at closing time. Thank you.
Ihor Shevchenko
My wife and I arrived about 30 min early for our diner reservation. Fortunately, it was a light night for business and we were seated immediately. Service was excellent. Our waitress was very good and tended to our needs without being a nuisance. We never felt rushed. The meal was very good and serving of the courses was well paced. Wewere very satisfied with tthe entire experience and we will come again.

What can I say about Crown Candy that hasn't been said? Great ruben...amazing chili....famous for the BLT. Downside it is really small....under 40 seats. Wait staff is fantastic. Of course they have candy and malts and shakes....but you'll probably be too full to try it, lol...
Cierra Palmer
First time ever being here! While the booths are small and a tight fit, I found the food to be amazing and the atmosphere homey. Eventually you forget about the size of the booths! I highly recommend trying this restuarant! The Turkey Special is aweskme! The BLTs.....OMG!! They looked amazing!
Brian Orlando
100% great everytime,, friendly as can be
Mark Hall
This place is an old school ice cream shop still gone in the middle of a ghetto. I went there specifically to take their 5 malt challenge, however they had a line out the door and halfway down the block for the entire three days I was in St Louis. Their ice cream and candy is excellent the food they serve is decent for the price
Donna Cain
Crown Candy Kitchen was amazing. The BLT was huge and more than enough to share. The chocolate banana malt was more than enough as well. The food and malts were very good. Can't wait to visit again!
Clay Babin
Food was alright, interesting old STL place. I didnt have any ice cream or candy, which are two of the main attractions here, but did have a sandwich. Very small place, limited seating. We waited half an hour to be seated. Bit dingy, as well. But it's part of STL history, and that, along with the sweets, is what makes it a worthwhile place to visit.
Kayla layden
If you have never been you need to try it.Not only is it historic it is a great place to have a sandwich and a malt.Don'tforget to buy some freshly made chocolate candy on your way out
Tammy Hamilton
Love the BLT The best icecream
Lisa Elliott
First time visitor here and the food was pretty good. There seemed to be a lot of it so be prepared to share it end up with two meals for yourself. I didn't realize they have a 'to go' section and will definitely use that in the future bc I liked the food. The place was small, but clean and we got there right after they opened so we didn't have to wait in line, but one did start not too long after we got there. That ended up being a little weird bc the line forms right by the booth we were sitting in and people would watch you eat. Other than that, pretty good people and food. The candy is TO DIE FOR! Will go back again.
Eric Williams
Loved it! Family had a variety of sandwiches, including the BLT and a variety of malts. All were excellent. What a wonderful place to stop when in St. Louis. Purchased a box of candy for the road....very good too!
Jedrick & Christina Weathers
My mom and dad would take me here frequently, in the 1970's, when we lived in St. Louis. Now when I visit the city I try to stop by for lunch. The bacon sandwich is crazy good and I love to wash it down with a malt. It is fun going back to a place that looks the same as it did when you were a kid.
Marylee Bigham
Best place to eat!!! Homemade candy and ice cream but, the BLT sandwich is to die for!! At least a pound of very crisp bacon on the sandwich. The decor is reminiscent of the malt shop where everyone hund out at.
Ed Wachter
Best sundae I ever had. If you like bacon order the BLT a bacon lovers dream. I would recommend this place to everyone. You step back in time when you go to Crown Candy.
Diana Dermody
Are you a bacon lover? Then you must try there BLT. Amazing!
Jan Lewis
This is a St Louis icon for a reason. The food is amazing, the decor is so original and the service is fast. The only issue ever with this place is the limited seating and lack of handicap accessibility. Be prepared to wait for a table and then feel pressured to eat fast due to the line constantly at the door.
John Irwin
Lived in the Lou almost all of my 43 years on this rock, today was my first time at Crown Candy! I know, that's kinda sad, I have missed out all this time!! I had the King of BLT's and oh my, it has been euphoric!! Really looking forward to diving into the Peach ice cream I also picked up here. Absolutely loved it and will definitely be back.
Shailee Salat-Bhatt
Best, creamiest milk shakes ever. The lines were long on Saturday but the candy and yummy ice cream made up for the wait. If you stand outside the door, you also get a magnificent view of the Gateway Arch.
Matthew Chow
Food was delicious (if excessive in portion). BLT was approximately a pound of bacon, so be ready for that. The lines were very long to dine in so one option is to carry out and eat at the park across the street.
Janice Way
Can't go wrong with anything on this menu! Shared the famous BLT and we each got a dessert and both of us had to leave some of our ice cream behind, it was so big!
Eric Casper
Bacon. If you like bacon, get the BLT. Actually if you like bacon you'll like pretty much any of their sandwiches. Don't let the name fool you. This is a great place to get food. And if you're still hungry make sure to grab a milkshake or another dessert.
Kimberly Bartnick
It was a cool place to eat it's true to its history not much has changed inside from the pictures and decor.. It has more like a lunch time menu the prices weren't to bad for 10$ I had a Reuben sandwich and it was served with chips and a pickle which I could only eat half of the sandwich and of course I couldn't resist trying one of their milk shakes my boyfriend had a malt and they we're both great and the amount you get is well worth the price he also had the chili mac it was 6.50 or 7$ I had to try that as well and it was good too.. So I recommend if your from out of town or are a true St.Louis or Missourian and are in St.Louis city and are looking for place to grab a sandwich and a milk shake or candy and they do have a big selection of different kinds from salt water taffy to peanut butter cups stop in to Crown Candy to eat in or carry out! ☺👨👩👧👦🍦👑🍬😋

Crown Candy has been around since 1913 and looks like it, but that should not detract visitors. A St. Louis landmark, people go for the extraordinary shakes and sandwiches...and the candy. We sampled the shakes and the turkey cheddar bacon melt. They were both fantastic! You can tell they use quality ingredients--real ice cream malts, quality deli turkey, and perfectly cooked bacon. Our only disappointment with the food was that they do not serve french fries. Food costs a bit more because of the gigantic portions, so you may decide to split a sandwich and malt with a friend.
Unfortunately, Crown Candy has small environs and a large, devoted following. The result is a boisterous and busy cafe, with longer wait times to get seated and a queue to pay as you leave. Not exactly the best setup. Overall, a treat for the tourist or the native but not an ideal regular destination.
