Reviews of Taku

10/10! I am excited to become a regular at this place, the portions are fantastic. The food is delicious! I love the decor of the place! The quality and taste of their fried chicken is perfect! I had a great time here with my friends, they were able to accommodate a table of 6 comfortably and promptly during the dinner rush. I will definitely be back for more of their chicken!

If you’re looking for something different and unique then this is your spot. The food was good, but very seasoned. I ordered chicken tenders seasoned with curry. I also got these unique tasting French fries. Good vibe inside as well.
Vincent Mañara
The salt and pepper chicken was so good! Itself was cooked to perfection, with a crispy outer coating that was perfectly seasoned and a juicy, tender interior. Love the vibe of the place. FYI you have to be 21 and over to eat inside. Good service.

Visited shortly after opening and had the luck to find sitting space at the bar. Here, you get to order and pay online, which makes the process seamless. On my second visit, it was even better.
The staff was friendly and focus on their tasks. The food arrived fairly quick and if you seat at the bar, you get to see the whole process. The chicken was crunchy and moist, as all chicken should be. We had the spicy teriyaki and bonito/soy versions. The first was excellent but the latter was lite on the flavor. The fries were hot and crisp. Overall a great place to stop for a quick snack and drink.

Just when I thought karaage couldn't be any better, this place proved me wrong. We came here for a late night snack, and all were extremely happy. The place is small and has a cool vibe to it. I enjoyed the decor and pictures that were all over the area. The chicken karaage is the main thing here, and I can see why people would order a bucket of it. We also got some fried rice and this potato mochi, which was also amazing. Do not forget to ask for the dipping sauces, as they also were perfect.

The chicken is great and all, but you come here for the atmosphere. The whole place makes you feel like you are hungover in the best way possible. Something about the mood of this place that makes you want to come back over and over to get a bucket full of fried chicken and fries.

Been here twice in the last 6 months! We live in Portland but wish Taku had a location there. Bomb flavors, big portions, good price, rad decor and vibe. I just love this place. The spicy teriyaki karaage nugs are so tasty! The sauce is just ridiculously flavorful. The menu changes a bit here which is fun. Try the cauliflower if it’s around! The fried rice is tasty and so was the kimchi (fermented with anchovy :D ). The cocktails are unique and refreshing! Long live Taku!

This was our second time coming to Taku and can’t say enough good things about it. Friendly staff, fries are seasoned with furikake and the chicken is fried to perfection. Not oily or very heavy fried! The yum yum sauce is my favorite, also the nori ranch is great with the fries.

Usually, places either have cool aesthetic or good food. This joint has both. Highly recommend
Best late night joint in Seattle for food.
We ordered the F$%#it bucket for 3 of us and had a lot left over. The curry seasoning was great. Very modern way of ordering where you pay and order on your phone. Which for an introvert like me I enjoyed.

Moving from TN where I spent most my life - I was worried the most about finding a good piece of fried chicken. TAKU has been my go-to spot and is hands down the best fried chicken Seattle has to offer. Chef Shota and his team are doing the lords work in one of the coolest bars in CapHill.

We had such a fantastic time here. The decor and vibe are straight out of a Japanese street market. The food has so many layers of flavors it is unbelievable! Yum! We will definitely be back.
Alex T
Great stuff: salt & pepper chicken nugs, hot spicy sauce, fried brussel sprouts. Great vibe here. Felt like a spot in New York.
Not so good: the fry's I had weren't great, but ok.
Shannon Kelsch
My daughter and I stopped by Taku on our way home to Puyallup from Seattle after I had surgery. The food was delicious, even after sitting during our 2hr commute home. The chicken remained crisp (amazing!), and everything tasted so good and fresh. I can't wait to eat there again, when I can eat the food freshly served.
Brandon Olander
We had the opportunity to experience their 4th of July combo. From the potato salad, to the Japanese mac salad, absolutely phenomenal. It came with a bucket of crispy nuggets and strips I felt like they never were going to end. So much crispy ends and meaty nuggets of soft chicken. Truly will be coming back for more.
Rachel Whitney
Unique late night eats. Oyakadon is top tier. Be prepared for loud music, but good music.

Super friendly staff, absolutely delicious chicken!!
I lived in Japan for three years, so I know my miso soup and karage chicken. The miso soup was the best I’ve ever had.

Me and my boyfriend have been dying to try this place. So we were excited ! Drinks were great. My boyfriend loved it. Service was okay. He definitely gave the vibe he was ready to go home which was slightly disappointing because we were so excited. For our first time I was excited to hear all the menu features but he just wasn’t in the mood. Definitely will try again! Possibly earlier :)
Alex Nguyen
Ah perfect place for party food or sharing karaage chicken! Easy menu to read and only take out only. The food portions were pretty big in my opinion. The chicken skin/batter was yummy! Lots of flavor and the fries were good too. The chicken was juicy but could be juicer, still prefer karaage setsuna.
Aila Enos
Best karaage I’ve had! We got the salt and pepper bucket and tried the togarashi ketchup, miso honey mustard, and yum yum sauce. The latter two were our favorites - the miso added some complexity and toned down the honey mustard, and the yum yum sauce was a bit tangy (not sure what’s in it but it was good)!

Early evening cocktails and small plates were amazing. The blend of umami in both food and drinks were eye appealing (little mushroom on a skewer in the umami-tini, so cute!) and delicious (fries, brussel sprouts with shaved green onion coated in sesame oil, potato mochi + kimchi).
Docked a star because we were confused on service set up when dining in. I think you just need to tell the bartender if you want service rather than ordering through the app? There are little QR codes placed throughout. We ordered everything through the app because someone didn't come to us at the bar. Everything was dropped off quickly and all staff were super friendly (esp. kitchen), but we did notice the longer we were there that other groups were offered service up front. Just wished someone came to chat us up & take our order.
Colton Weaver
Great food and service! I had the fish sliders during their White Castle themed event and also their regular karaage. I am very much a fan of both. Hope they bring the fish back!
Mark B
Better then expected! I thought it might be a lot of pomp being who the chef is. Nope, this is comfort food at its finest. Consistent every visit, chicken is amazing, delish!
Nicholas O'Connor
Got the three piece spicy teriyaki nugs and fried rice. The sauce and chicken were both incredible, and the fried rice was decent. However, the price felt way too high for the amount of food. I will also always be frustrated by QR menus, which take too much time to navigate and find what you want, as well as straight up don't work if your phone is dead (as mine nearly was)
Ryan Grelck
Great karaage, needs a small lemon slice or an option of picked veggies side to balance the fat out. The whiskey and coke highball was tasty.
Marek Quesnel
Cool atmosphere and the food was amazing! Went to one top chef contestant's restuarant to be surprised by another top chef contestant in the kitchen. Tells you the caliber of the food coming out of this kitchen!
Hank H
Chicken was mediocre. Used chicken breast for karaage, chicken was overcooked and dry. Even bdubs is better than this for the price.
David King
First time going there, the vibe was on point. It was chill, the staff were nice. The place was clean and the food was good! I will be going back!
Benjamin Basaran
We wanted to try Taku after watching Shota on top chef!! It did not disappoint!! Great food! Thank you!! We will definitely be coming back to try more!
Crystal Holley
Everything was going wrong today… BUT TAKU WAS NOT JESUS!! Crispity… Crunchety… bomb dry salt & pepper nuggets of awesomeness! I’ll be back!
Jamien Ayala
Chicken was really good and the seasoned fries were great. The waitress with the neck tattoo was very cute
Bill Wu
Tried all 3: 5 piece karaage bonito soy style, curry karaage burger, karaage bowl. All really good, would recommend try them all.
Nicki Renardo
Great food. I can't stress that enough. Enjoyable staff, atmosphere was great. Loved the drinks.
Ian Pradhan
I loved the chicken and the Mac salad from Taku. Our cashier was nice and funny, as were the rest of the staff. The decor was also very cool, and reminiscent of smaller bars in Osaka. You can feel the Japanese theme here and I appreciated it.
The only disappointment from our visit were the furikake fries. They weren't bad, just nothing special. I would happily stop by again while bar hopping in the area.
Debra Whitney
Oh my gosh! The chicken was delicious! It reminded me of the many years I lived in Japan. The place is funky cool and the staff is fantastic. We shared the Chicken Karaage Rice Bowl. We even got a bucket to go. We will definitely be back!
Matthew Wei
Great. Slightly expensive but it's cap hill and it's the best place for thighs. Ahem.
CC
Delicious fast casual meal. The chicken sandwich is excellent, fries are awesome and the drinks are cold. Order at the counter and wait for a table to open up. Hoping the menu grows as the selection is limited, especially for veggies.
Sofi T
Great atmosphere, excited they opened this up for dining in. Tried all the dry varieties of karaage - FYI if you want different flavors you'll have to get each separately - one order, one flavor. So between 2 of us, we got 3 separate orders of 5. Bonito/soy and curry were great, the salt/pepper needed a little more oomph. It didn't even come with a lemon wedge which might've pushed it over to excellent. The furikake fries were also awesome, super crisp and nice flavor.
Got there around 8 on a Wednesday night and it was pretty busy but we were able to snag a table. The seats turn over pretty fast.
louie galitan
Great food and amazing atmosphere
Ade William
Delicious food from chef Shota. Order ahead from their site for convenience!
Angi Hansen
Great, lively spot for a large variety of deep fried meats, veggies, scallops, and cheese on a skewer cooked to perfection with just the right amount of breading - not too thick!
All the staff were super nice & very helpful with the ordering - mark off on a sheet the quantity of whichever items you want to try. I wanted to try everything! We loved the chicken thigh, avocado, scallops, ribs, bacon wrapped asparagus, and oooooh, the brie! The drinks were delicious, too. I only wish I had had a bigger appetite.
Can't wait to go back & try the chef's choice bucket. I'll make sure to show up hungry!
Faye Whitney
We ate there for the first time today and we loved it! We both had the Chicken Karaage Rice Bowl, which came with their teriyaki sauce (not sickenly sweet), pickled cucumbers, soy beans sprouts and rice. There were 4 large nuggets of chicken and we thought the $10.50 price was very reasonable. We enjoyed it so much we ordered a 15pc bucket of the Karaage to take home. We will definitely be going back!
Portia Kwok
Taku was great. Fantastic atmosphere, great fried chicken. They did ask for vaccine card and ID, be sure to have that handy or a neg xovid test. I'm glad they are doing that!
Drew Martin
Good fried stuff in a cozy atmosphere. Get a toki highball and the katsu banana split.
-1 star because it's pricey, that's Seattle, baby!
Toni Ho
The Bonito & Soy Karaage nuggets were bomb. Crispy and juicy, with a subtle bonito aftertaste. The best part was finding pieces with chicken skin on them! 🔥Nuggets will never be the same again. …
Isaac Wolfe
Fried chicken is insance. Their famed F*ck it Bucket truly lives up to the name. Would highly suggest curry style!
Hailey Jencks
The food was absolutely delicious! We had to go again the next day to get more. Not only was the food amazing but the service was too. The people were so kind and made sure we were content. I will definitely be back in the future.
E Griffin
Good for fried chicken - I felt the outer crust was a little too floury, but overall it was quite tasty and a good spot for drinking and eating fried food.
Cody Alexander
Went here right before quarantine happened. Thought I would leave a review with the hopes of encouraging people to order and support these guys. Food here is EXCELLENT, some of the best made to order on Cap Hill. Support these guys so when all this over we get the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere, food, and excellent drinks.
Cynthiya Manickavasagam
Great atmosphere and ambience. Good for a night out.

Absolutely love the salt and pepper chicken. It's super crispy and not over seasoned.

Its pretty good. The chicken katsu burger and the chicken katsu pieces were great. The fries were just ok. Def would recommend!
Chaz Vossburg
Amazing chicken and highly recommend getting extra teriyaki sauce. It was delicious, the fries and Japanese Mac are definitely worth getting as well.
Joe Walker
The sauces here are amazing! I got the burger and a bunch of different flavors of karaage and loved every bite!
Renee Espinoza
Our chicken was Soo good. Chef Shota did not disappoint!
Matt Nollman
Best fried chicken and fried rice I’ve ever had. Rice bowl was on point. Would come back every day if I could. Shota for President.

This place is Soooo delicious. Everything is good but the teriyaki chicken with the aioli sauce is where it's at. Mmmmm....
Andrew Dawson

Just wanted a gift cert for a friend's birthday, but not issuing them yet. Bummed. Didn't have time to eat, but looked great.
Jade Godinez
Amazing food! I drove from West Seattle to pick up my lunch from here to support locally business. The food is amazing and the staff is just as amazing!!!!
Rachel Quick
Great atmosphere, but the food was pretty bland. My girlfriend grew up in Japan, and she said it's pretty whitewashed.
Kyle Johnson
Excellent fried chicken and mac

Great comfort food. Love the look and drinks.

Might be a good idea to have more dipping sauce options and non-fried options.

Karaage. This place nails it. I’ve searched far and wide around the country and this is a top 3.

Godzilla stands watch, no minors—Loud beats blast you straight to Tokyo while you order on your phone. Bonita flavored fries and tangy kimchi. Thicc Nugs need dipping sauce. Jello shots—Bring anime sticker for the wall—stay here forever.
Steven Walker
Chef Shota is the best!!! So, of course, his restaurant is the best, too. I'm gonna try all of his restaurants because I am confident that it will be a magnificent culinary experience because of chef Shota.
Tara Millar
Delicious, mouth watering food and excellent service. The setting is artsy casual. We love it here!
Terence Pang
Lots of umami and Asian pickled garnishes.
Chad Sheffield
General Shota was great. And really liked Kizakura Tsu Junmai Daigingo sake.
