Reviews of Sushi Kanpai
Sushi Kanpai is hands down the best sushi spot in the area. As a local resident, I can confidently say that I have never once had a bad experience there. The quality of the food is consistently amazing, and the variety of sushi options is impressive. I have been a regular customer for about a year and have never once been disappointed.
The sushi chefs are skilled and always make sure that the fish is fresh and expertly prepared. The atmosphere is cozy and perfect for a casual night out with friends or a romantic dinner. I highly recommend Sushi Kanpai to anyone in the area looking for delicious sushi, great service, and a fantastic overall dining experience. Don't miss out on this place!
I had a pleasure dinner through this restaurant, the price was reasonable and everything was perfect.
This place is absolutely amazing spot for sushi they have a nice variety good friendly service and a happy hour the place is scrupulously clean and safe and I can't say enough good things about the sushi they should definitely be on your radar if you are a sushi fan
Stopped in for Happy Hour, great sushi, and Goya. Service was cheerful and very well done. If lunch or dinner is even close; I’d highly recommend it.
The paradise roll is a must have. Sushi is always fresh and happy hour has some pretty good deals. Totally recommend this place for anyone looking to have some good sushi and a good time
Sushi was very good as was the miso and tempura! Donkatsu was a little over cooked but still tasty. Presentation was perfect. Service was prompt and cordial. Atmosphere is calm and soothing.
Definitely will come back.
I consider myself a sushi connoisseur. I've had sushi every month of my life since I was 6. I used to live in Los Angeles and sushi is plentiful. I've had the worst sushi, and sushi that would make your jaw drop in ecstacy. This sushi restaurant is the best one I have in Washington State, hands down. I indulged in the Wasabi Hamachi and the paradise rolls with a sushi/sashimi mixed platter with fatty tuna nigiri on the side. All this paired with Nigori Cloudy Sake Strawberry- super sweet, creamy and light.
My favorite fish is yellowtail (aka hamachi), however the real star of tonight's dinner was salmon... their salmon was so fresh, it was light, fresh and buttery- melting in my mouth. The fatty tuna came in second place for sure. The white fish was also good. The rolls were both unique and crafted with perfectly balanced flavors. The Wasabi Hamachi was just a touch spicy, but the hamachi and misago really balanced that out. The paradise was creamy and the coconut sweetness was refreshing and new in the world of sushi.
I loved their creativity with flavors and you can tell they care about the quality of the fish, when you watch them fillet the fish at the end of the night. Nothing frozen. Fish served room temp, as it should be. I will be returning to this incredibly authentic venue of Japanese cuisine.
Anyone who didn't admire their attention to detail must not have been ordering from here.... its no mistake, this is the freshest and most authentic Japanese sushi in all of washington.
Good service, quality sushi, fair prices, and decent teriyaki! The salmon was a little over cooked in my opinion but overall very good and I would recommend this restaurant.
Customer service was on point, and definitely much appreciated. As far as prices goes, I’d say its not cheap, but not pricy either. Its a cute little sushi spot. Would come here again. Everything we ordered, we enjoyed.
Must try if you’re a sushi lover. Loved the ambiance and the service. Huge menu to try out including a happy hour menu. Definitely going back here again
Great little sushi spot in downtown Seattle with friendly staff and a happy hour that lasts well into dinner time! There is a drink purchase requirement to get the happy hour deals.
Came here on a rainy like... Tuesday night or something with my boy for a mini date. It was really quiet and fairly empty inside if that floats your boat. The warm sake during happy hour is real nice and hefty too actually, and the rolls are decently priced. I would totally recommend for a low key, nice evening out. **Warning, partaking in happy hour dishes requires the purchase of a beverage!
Great service paired with tasty, value-oriented lunch specials. Definitely worth a visit for your next lunch.
Excellent sushi at decent prices in a relaxed environment. Also a super convenient location.
This local sushi hovel is a neighborhood gem. It is super cozy. Menu prices are very reasonable. Ingredients are fresh. The staff are super friendly and actually helpful with good suggestions. I usually leave feeling completely satiated and ready to pass out. Highly recommend :-)
Crunchy dynamite roll melts in your mouth. Best baked roll ever. Veggie dumplings were great as well
Sushi Kenpai, I can’t believe I haven’t already left a glowing review for this place!
I lived across the street for years, and have eaten here a ton of times. This place is a favorite for my spouse and I, the food is great and the service is always quick and friendly.
I moved to a different state for a while and would always come here when in town, sometimes to meet people and other times just so my spouse and I could get a familiar meal.
I’m finally back to living in Seattle and recently stopped by again, the meal was excellent as always.
My spouse and I usually split a spicy tuna roll, a Philly roll, and an 8th Ave.
This place is a solid choice, five stars.
Fresh, simple, delicious. I got a sake sampler and all of the server's suggestions were delicious. The atmosphere is dim and quiet, an oasis with beautiful understated decor.
Such great sushi! And Happy Hour is the best time to go! 4pm-7pm Mon through Fri and 4pm-9pm Sat and Sun. Only stipulation for happy hour is you must by one beverage to get everything at the happy hour prices.
I really wanted sushi tonight so we decided to check out a new place. When we got there we were the only people in there but it quickly started to fill out. We ordered off the Happy Hour menu. The steamed pork and chicken dumplings came with a flavorful gyoza sauce and were very delicious! I found the steamed cabbage that was placed on top of the gyoza unnecessary 😂. We ordered 3 rolls; spicy tuna, spicy salmon and the crispy alaskan (deep fried philly roll). The spicy tuna had a nice hint of heat to it and was very good and was my boyfriend's favorite. The spicy salmon was not very good. It had no heat to it, was almost kind of sweet and tasted a little fishy. We did not finish it, only tried 3 pieces. The Crispy Alaskan was my favorite. Perfectly tempured, soft and warm cream cheese inside, tasty sauce and the salmon was still raw inside. All in all our dinner was OK. It was not the best sushi we've had but not the worst. I think we would consider going again.
This is my favorite sushi place! I love their sweet shrimp, rolls, chirashi and salmon poke chips.
Had a late lunch here and took it to go. Everything was amazing and fresh. Got my order quick and the service was top notch! I can't remember the waitress who helped me but I did compliment her nails. I will be back for sure
Love the ambiance especially the japanese food here
The service was great, the sushi was amazing and so was the sake. We expected a bit more of a fine dining experience as far as the atmosphere went but nevertheless we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and had a great night. Thanks so much to the server for doing such an amazing job and for being so knowledgeable about the questions we asked and thanks to the sushi chefs, the food was outstanding.
Went here on a whim while extended family was visiting. A little out of the way of downtown (a plus) and enjoyed the atmosphere. Loved the happy hour selection. Definitely a great spot to dine and would go again if I am in the area.
Amazing little Japanese spot to grab dinner and drinks after a hard day's work. Great happy hour specials with an attentive staff, and the food is very tasty!
It wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t great. Had nigiri set and spider roll.
Excellent Sushi !!! Hands down 1 of the best I've had. Portion sizes are great, and the roles aren't over stuffed with rice.
We used to live in the apartments above the restaurant and enjoyed eating sushi here occasionally. For sushi this good its not worth going any further to find others. We now live in Federal Way, and when we want sushi we drive 20 miles to go back to the same place.....it's worth the drive.
I’ve had sushi in LA, Tokyo, New York, and Florida. The Baked Salmon roll was the best roll I ever had in my life. Turned out to be the sushi chefs favorite roll to make as well. Their spicy calamari was also very good! Service was excellent. Gonna go there again very soon!!!
**Update** Just got a job in Seattle, this will be my new go-to place to eat. Thank you. *humbly bows to applause*
Excellent Sushi. Super friendly service.
Wait till you try this little tucked away place, good food.
I've been coming here several years at this point. It's my favorite place to grab dinner in Seattle. The Happy Hours prices are great, the Wait Staff is friendly, the Menu has a nice bit of variety to it, and, ultimately, the Food is wonderful! It can get pretty busy so, if you are able, I encourage coming a bit early or later for the Lunch and Dinner rushes. Regardless of when you go, I highly recommend trying it out yourself!
If you love GOOD quality sushi, GREAT service, and AMAZING prices during happy hour, this is this place to go! This is our "go to" place for sushi during lunch, happy hour, and dinner! The menu offers a wonderful variety and we always leave happy that we were able to partake of such consistently good experiences at Sushi Kanpai!
Amazing place. Great service.
This is a neighborhood find. This is tucked back across the highway, down a side street and it was a lucky find for us. We were looking for something close to our hotel on our last night before heading back home and we found this place. Definitely search them out and if your driving, there is adequate parking around. The service was great but the food was greater! The real deal all around. Fresh, we presented and in a timely manner. Sushi selection and the Sake selection were amazing. I would recommend it and I will go back when in town!
Awesome rolls and various options, even for a non-sushi fan. Variety of drink options as well and a very calm atmosphere. The staff is also friendly and attentive. Although the seating isn't the most spacious, so larger groups might want to dine elsewhere, I would say there is something for everyone here.
Our favorite sushi place in Seattle, happy hour is awesome and the sushi is delicious!
Edit:
We have been coming here for almost three years and the service and food continues to be amazing. It is so nice how they recognize us whenever we go in. We will keep going to this place as long as we live in the area!
Service is great. The servers there are always very friendly and attentive. I usually go there for happy hour. It's not necessarily the best sushi in the world, but it's definitely worth the price. I've only had food from the non-happy hour menu once or twice but it was still very good.
The sushi was very good, and it's just enough off the main streets that it's not crazy busy. Plus, they offer happy hour all night on Saturdays!! Probably not the place to do an Omikase (though I havent tried it here, so I cant say that for sure), but good rolls and good atmosphere. Will definitely go back
I go there on a regular basis, pretty much every week and the food is great! Rolls are tasty, fresh and well made and as affordable for good quality sushi as you can get in Seattle. Also, service is great, attentive and fast, amazing happy hour. One of my favorite places in the city.
The tuna was so good. It basically melted in my mouth. The staff is incredibly friendly. My food was ready very quickly. Will definitely be returning.
Great food fresh good service the happy hour menu was good had a great time trying different things 4 ppl 170 that's with drinks too everyone full and took food home
Kanpai roll is excellent! Salmon Bento Box is very good but California roll fell flat.
Happy hour specials require drink purchase
I love the food here. The sushi is delicious and so are the cooked appetizers. The only reason I will not give them 5 stars is because of their hours/rules. They close at 9pm every night which is super early for a downtown location. Even though they claim they close at 230pm for lunch, if you walk in at 210pm they will not allow you to sit down. You can only get takeout. They are very polite about it, but they should either let you sitdown or change their hours to 2pm last seating.
As a native Oregonian I wasn't sure what to expect coming in to Sushi Kanpai (new city, new sushi experience), but this place was beyond comparison! Everything about this establishment screams authenticity and class, as well as warm and inviting. I will definitely be sending as many people this restaurant's way as I can, AND make it a tradition to stop by whenever in town 👍 delicious!
Great food! Great service! Again & again.
Rating is a 4.5 but I am forced to round up to five. Service was fast and the food expertly prepared. The restaurant is extremely clean and the service friendly but not pushy. Highly recommended.
Sushi + Happy Hour
This is one of the freshest places to get happy hour sushi in the city. Plates averaging around $6 for 8 piece rolls with purchase of a drink. Eel roll is what I go in for and always leave happy and full.
Busy for lunch for food is reasonably priced for the portion. Very close to the two hospital nearby so if you're in the area. The bento is pretty good. Everything comes with a miso soup
Quick service & a killer happy hour. This is the avocado roll & cucumber roll. They also have great tempura batter here! 🍤 Nice little neighborhood gem. …
This is my favorite sushi place. The sushi is reasonably priced and they have a great happy hour. The servers multi-task a lot so the service suffers a little, but they are extraordinarily friendly and the food makes up for any inconvenience, which are minimal.
This place is a bit underrated on Google and Yelp, but their sushi was really very good. They are a bit under staffed so service was disjointed at times but everyone was very friendly. When I am in Seattle again, I will be back.
I was super surprised at how large the portions were compared to the price, especially for where the restaurant is located in Seattle. Happy hour was also an amazing deal :)
Wow, this is the VW of Japanese restaurants! Completely unassuming from the outside. Everything past the door works perfectly. Comfortable ambiance, great service and genuine, well prepared dishes. I just wish they had some Japanese whiskeys on the menu to finish a very good meal.
This is a great Japanese restaurant. We had the "Mr. Jalapeno" appetizer, which was excellent: not too hot, but very flavorful. My wife had the una don, and I had the chirashi sushi. Both exceeded expectations. The novel twist was the incorporation of Japanese salad in place of some of the sushi rice in the dish. Really, really good. Atmosphere was quiet, and comfortable. Service as A+. Highly recommended.
I wish I'd come more regularly to this place. The Sushi is amazing, the salmon dissolves on your tongue and the ambient is very nice. I'd would say it is the best sushi joint in Seattle, see for yourself...
I wouldn't call it pricey but better quality fish does cost more and they definitely have the highest quality there. actually, I'm gonna go there tonight again! :)
The Bento Box lunch is the HIGHEST quality lunch I've had in the area, based on nutrition to price ratio.
The food was neigh-perfect. It was not exactly like being back in Japan, but it was close.
美味しかった
The sushi was fresh and well prepared. It is a neighboorhood place. Nothing fancy but very cozy. It was a great choice for our first night in Seattle. You can walk from the Renaissance hotel.
Tried several dishes with a small party, mixed reviews from them due to the quality of ingredients and plating. But I think it's decent spot for sushi overall.
I was taken to this place for dinner and was just blown away by their sushi rolls. My personal favorite is a lobster roll; which most restaurants do horribly wrong. Let me tell you, this is by far the best roll I ever had in my life. I actually couldn't get the picture because I kept eating it.
Sushi Kanpai is where I tasted my first sushi over two years ago when I moved to Seattle. As I am unaccustomed to Japanese food, I appreciate that they serve uramaki (inside out sushi rolls) which puts the nori (seaweed) on the inside of the roll and the rice on the outside which is more appealing to me. I recommend steamed gyoza (aka potstickers) and salmon sashimi, but they also have great sushi rolls and chicken katsu (breaded) or teriyaki. The sushi chefs are friendly and will chat or answer questions if the restaurant is not too busy. Evening happy hour is 4-7 pm M-F and 4-close on weekends; it requires one drink purchase per person. If you like beer, consider trying one of the three popular Japanese imports Asahi, Kirin, or Sapporo, otherwise sake, wine, tea, and soda is also available. I would say a group size of 1~4 people is probably best for this restaurant. There is usually sports broadcasting above the bar and some soft background music with an upbeat feel. The restrooms are locked, so ask for the key at the register. If you're uncomfortable using chopsticks, just let your waiter or waitress know.
Good food. I'm not sure if it's overpriced for Seattle, but it seemed a bit overpriced for what I'm used to (in SoCal), but the quality of the fish was great and the taste was very good. The Kanpai roll is delicious.
Yum, this was great. I had the sashimi sampler. The chef chooses the fish to serve and it was all creamy and delicious. I love anything from the sea. The vibe is super chill. I will definitely be back.
Perfect!, this was the best. I had the sashimi sampler. The chef chose the fish and it was exactly what I liked and it was all delicious. I love anything from the sea. The atmosphere is very cool. I will definitely be back.
Great place to grab a meal with friends or, for the customer at the table next to us, a couple meals. It's so good he came back after lunch and ordered the same thing! The only issue we had was the hard-working kitchen team was a little under staffed.
Great Service, Food came out. Great place to meet up with friend or two and just dine in
It was really good! The food was good and service was good! Nice atmosphere! Good menu! Fast service! And servers) it was really good experience!) And we live right across the corner, don't why we didn't try it before!) I recommend!
I eat here so much they now know my order by heart.
This place is great. The value for the happy hour is also really good.
I love this place.
Thier lunch specials are amazing. Great neighborhood spot. One of my go to's in first hill for sure
Sushi and service is always great. Prices are great compared to other Seattle sushi. Can't beat happy hour.
Delicious sushi, friendly staff, good prices. What more could you want?
I want to start by saying I dont est sushi. I dont eat anything that came put of the water, which drastically reduces the things I will eat in a sushi restaurant. I had the katsu and it was delicious. The tempura was tasty, the edamame was good. I would go back. My sushi eating friends adore the place.
Solidly ok roll sushi. Picked up the Heart Attack roll, the eel roll and the baked salmon roll. Can recommend them all. Fried ice cream served in slices like sushi - delicious!
Great tasting food
With a wonderful atmosphere and delicious, perfectly prepared food, Sushi Kanpai is an absolute treasure! The cost is reasonable and the people are great! I highly recommend eating here!
We love this place! Amazing happy hour prices and fresh food. Girls who serve us are so nice but service is soooooo slow.
Totally recommend this place for your sushi cravings in Seattle! They have amazing vegetarian & vegan sushi options as well :) I'll definitely be returning on my next trip up to the big city!
Lovely restaurant that's neither too bright nor too dingy that makes for an excellent place to relax and enjoy delicious and well presented sushi. With excellent service and reasonable prices there's nothing else I could have asked for!
All day happy hour with drink purchase is an excellent deal. The food is great with a nice atmosphere and good staff. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
Great food. Excellent service (5 out of 5) and the establishment was very careful about sanitation and distancing during the pandemic.
Very good Japanese food. All sushi rolls are great. Pricing is very reasonable. Great little find that's not around much.
A very cozy sushi bar that has great food and the staff are warm and kind. I highly recommend this hidden gem.
Ordered from here for the first time on Uber Eats and OH MY. Very impressed with the sushi quality. Just lovely.
Nice staff. Great sushi for a fair price. I go here for happy hour, sushi & apps are great deals.
Awesome food and good location. Its in a brand new building so the interior is pretty new. Also, parking is very convenient.
Exceptional sushi. Truly original menu. Great vibe and service. This is a must visit for sushi lovers in Downtown Seattle.
Great looking place. Enjoyable right before church. Food didn't jump out at me at all. Flavors were bland. Will give it another visit when in the area.
Great lunch menu. Fast & friendly service. Glad I discovered and will eat there again
We loved everything we ordered! Definitely coming back after we move to Seattle. 👍
Wonderful food with reasonable prices. They've always been accommodating to my needs, and I'm always feeling like I'm welcome.
Good sushi, reasonable price and no wait on a work night. Happy hour until 7pm is a plus as well!
Very tasty rolls. Good drinks. Great prices. I love it.
Awesome sushi feast!
Awesome place. Highly recommended for the sushi lovers out there. This place is a must try
Honestly one heck of a meal. Great sushi, great spicy pork.
The spicy pork bento box is perfection. So tasty. Can't forget the veggie tempura either.
Lots of yummy offerings here! They often have a baked role that is like sushi meets comfort casserole <3
Good sushi prepared right in front of you. Big portions. Clean. It's just not great and I can't tell you why
Love the Udon here.

Favorite place for happy hour 😊 great prices, good food, friendly service, cheap hot sake for my alcohol inclined amigos …
Great food and service! Fried ice cream was amazing!
Teriyaki chicken is chicken breast only, and dry. The sushi rolls are loose. But everything else was good.
Great local sushi joint with a very affordable happy hour till 7pm
Great local sushi that stays fresh for a decent amount of time
Great food and ambiance the sashimi was fresh and delicious
Really good It was excellent didn't have no problems with it Thresh really fresh and they do care how they package it
Nothing special. I had 2 sushi rolls and sashimi. The spicy tuna had an unusual texture, not appealing. Just meh.
Amazing sushi, good size portions, excellent happy hour.
Food, super great. Please come here! It's a little crowded but it was worth it!
Great place for lunch. Awesome food, fast service, and never a line.
