Reviews of Surrell

Amazing tasting menu! The presentation is some of the best I have see outside of Japan. If possible chose the special themes (I chose Tomato but there is mushrooms, squash etc). Everything was great and very creative. The chef’s table would be my preference. They have vegetarian option so that’s wonderful as well.

Had an amazing time doing the tasting menu and wine pairing! The food was fantastic, very well thought out and presented wonderfully. The wines (all from Washington wineries) were all great and paired beautifully with the food. Service was spectacular as well, from the glass of sparkling wine as we arrived to the preparation of the salad on the edible menu at the table, and of course the servers wonderful explanations of the dishes and wines. Would highly recommend this experience for a special occasion or if you just want to really treat yourself!

We went there for my husband's birthday and we enjoy our Dinner very much. The chef and all staff members are very nice and attentive. We are very happy with the food and service. My favorite dish is the beet dish. The chef makes the beet taste so good. I am very impressed. Highly recommended.

We went for the all tomato dinner and had an amazing time! The outdoor space is beautiful and our server was very enthusiastic and lovely to talk to. The experience felt very personalized and all of the food was delicious - we also got the wine pairing and it matched the food very well.
They were able to accommodate my dining partner’s dietary restrictions and even provided her with a gluten free flatbread which was greatly appreciated.
We will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed celebrating our 5 year anniversary with this delightful meal. Each dish had surprising but well balanced flavors. My favorites were the tempura fried maitake mushroom and the nettles and fudgey egg. The house was charming. We felt so taken care of by the staff and appreciated the personal visits from Chef and Owner Aaron Tekulve.

We decided to come here for our engagement as it seemed like such a fun and interesting place! And oh my goodness, the food was incredible, the atmosphere was so nice, and everything about the experience was amazing. They took care of us with wine recommendations and food that was just out of this world. Amazing!

Until our experience at Surrell our all time favorite dining had been at The Herb Farm. Surrell met and exceeded that experience. Chef Aaron is down to earth and approachable which made the overall time we had with him and his team the most enjoyable. Thank you Chef and your team for an unforgettable evening. We will definitely be back time and time again.

Great is not an adequate word, it was magnificent!
From the moment you step into Surrell, the magic begins.
We were welcomed and ushered into a reception area for a pre-dinner drink, which was a perfect start to the night.
The table was set up with flowers for dinners to enjoy and bring home along with all the starters.
The tasting menu progression was perfect and each dish was a pleasure. Presentation was inventive, flavors were bold, ingredients fresh, and the wine pairing was divine (so says my friend).
Don't miss this experience!

The food/ service/ decor is all amazing. I really enjoyed every aspect of it. Some of the items from the chef menu were a little out there but they balanced well and were good size portions. I was full when I left. Their wine selection is fantastic and the service is what makes the place stand out. Not as interesting flavors I've had at other fine dining places in the area. The only thing is they don't do much to explain the dish. They tell you what it is but that's it. Overall great experience and good.

I loved the entire expérience. Food, présentation, ambiance were beautiful. Service with wine pairing could have been better but at the end no disapointment.

Amazing place.
Very unique atmosphere,
Exceptionally good tasting food + wines
These are art pieces not food
Flat out amazing experience.

This was a beautiful meal. We went for my birthday and I'll remember it always. We got the tasting menu, and every course was a fun experience. Very cool to know all the ingredients and wines were local. Highly recommend this for a special occasion or a night you want to remember.

The service is great and the wine is also fine.
BUT, the taste of the food is really….. not worth the money, at least for the mid-summer night’s menu. Overall, everything related to tomato is way too sour and the food portion is very small. The food all look pretty enough but I guess its not my cup of tea. And the dessert is also weird 😭😭

Surrell was an absolute delight. One of our best dining experiences this year! The building served as a coffee shop the last time we visited and has been redone beautifully for this small restaurant. The decor is charming yet modern and very intimate.
We enjoyed dinner at the chefs counter - highly recommend! It was wonderful to watch the whole process.
Chef Aaron was personable and engaged throughout the whole experience. He stopped to chat with us frequently. He was willing let us get to know him too. The staff was attentive and polite, and were well organized.
Food exceeded our expectations! Unlike some of the few reviews I have seen about lack of flavor or vinegary/ acidic food, we found it to be delightful. The ingredients were fresh, light, and creatively prepared. We cannot wait to return to try the food from another season of produce!
Definitely one to add to the rotation of fancy-night-out-venues!

Surrell made our celebration so very special. Our guests loved the gorgeous outdoor environment, the incredible food, and the wonderful chef and staff. We unfortunately still have to be concerned with covid and the consideration at Surrell is uniquely special and wonderful. Thank you so much, Chef Aaron and team!!!

As we're getting ready to dine here for the 5th time, I thought it was time to give all the praise I can to this restaurant/chef/team. I've never been disappointed here; rather completely delighted. Each experience has been unique and delicious. You can feel all the care that has been put into each service. I love this local place.

Place and service were very good. Food presentation is excellent but some dishes weren't really great. It's unnecessary to have 7 out of 9 with mushrooms and with huge salt variations (some too much, some almost none).
Vine selection wasn't good at all. ALL red vines what we were presented smell and taste like they have a vodka splash in them. I understand that everyone has different taste but both of us really didn't like it and didn't drink any red vine.
Overall, sorry but I think it didn't match the expectations and price point.
Erika Sison
Lovely, delicious experience. Every dish was its own unique journey.

To say that dining at Surrell was amazing would be an understatement. I have been to several top 100 restaurants in the world, and I’ve never had a wire to wire, or from start to finish, meal where ever dish was outstanding! So many fine dining places, for example Alinea in Chicago or Steirereck in Vienna, will have some outstanding courses interspersed with some just “meh” courses in-between. Surrell provided an unparalleled gustatory and thematic culinary experience that was just simply delicious! Every course was AMAZING, with perfect balance and seamless execution, which is not something I have ever been able to say of any other dining experience! The amount of thought and care that Chef Aaron puts into every dish is evident with every heavenly bite.
The experience of Surrell for us began with Sarah, Chef Aaron’s wife, greeting us and showing us to our table. Sarah is just the most pleasant person you have ever met. She will bring you to your outdoor table (in a wonderful space) where they have gone above and beyond to maintain safety during these times of COVID mitigation measures. The table is made in such a warming fashion, that it will simply make you smile to see the amount of effort and thought put forth!
As much as it pains me to write this review, as I just want to keep Surrell a secret just to myself; some things are just to good to not share. Do yourself a favor and book a table, you will not regret it! Just astounding, thank you Chef Aaron and Sarah Tekulve for gracing Washington with Surrell!
Alex Nankervis
Such a great experience, run by the most wonderful and welcoming folks. We've been twice now - once for their outdoor patio, and recently for their chef's counter. Fantastic both times. We're lucky to have this place down the street from us. Looking forward to trying out the new wine bar!

Surrel's biggest strength lies in its service, hence boosting rating by one star.
Food (2/5)
The food is the biggest item that needs improvement. Most of the dishes are either too salty, or are not memorable, particularly for roughly $200+ per person, where there are options that are better relative quality for the price. For the same price point, I would definitely recommend Canlis more. Or check out Tomo which is half the price but higher quality and more memorable flavors.
Out of the roughly 8-9 dishes we had, the only two that stood out were the macaron (first course) and the dessert. The other dishes need to be thought from ground up to make them stand out and spark joy.
Service (5/5):
From the moment you enter, The chef and staff are friendly. Your table is reserved with a small label, alongside a bouquet prepared by the chefs mother. The staff made sure our needs were attended to, other wise they were out of our way to give us privacy, which we appreciated a lot. They even prepared a small take out gift, which was a thoughtful gesture.
Sharon Chow
We will definitely be back! It was a phenomenal dining experience for the senses. The outdoor dining area was so welcoming, warm and beautifully decorated. A wonderfully designed centerpiece by the chef's mother divides the patio for privacy. Our young adult children were thrilled that delicious food was awaiting us upon seating and in such an elegant way. Each course was so flavorful! We appreciated the staging area where plates are exchanged that kept our dining experience so comfortable in the midst of covid restrictions. Thank you Sarah and Aaron for providing us a lovely experience with our family!

Amazing experience. I don't have a favorite plate because they were all delicious, different and intriguing, yet somehow it was cohesive and enough to keep me full. Every detail is exquisite, from the food to the plants to the woodwork (the latter compliments of the chef's parents). We were greeted by the chef and he helped us choose a bottle of wine to pair with the pre-fixe menu. I wish I wasn't leaving Seattle so I could go to their outdoor wine bar that is opening soon!

Surrell is an absolute gem, and I'm so glad my partner and I decided to pay them a visit. This was our first time eating at a restaurant since February, and not only did the experience surpass our expectations given the circumstances, but it was one of our favorite restaurant experiences ever. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely taken care of and safe. Our server recommended a great bottle of wine to pair with dinner based on our preferences, and the meal itself got better and better with each course. I couldn't recommend Surrell enough for a special evening out!
Jason Suh
The sparkling wine we had was delicious, and the food was, too. The outdoor seating was very well done, and the heaters kept the space very comfortable. The staff are all very nice.
Megan Edwards
Whoa! This place can make any day, a holiday. My husband and I thought we would go out for a chill evening, yet we experienced service here like we were established patrons! Our server knew exactly which plates should accompany our favorite bottle of wine, while we sat in such a beautiful warm space. Chef Aaron came out to meet us which was so cool!! Yes, the wine was divine. Yes, the food was savory. Yes, we highly recommend!!
Eniola Suley
Fantastic food here. All of it, from bread to soup to salad to entree to dessert. The food is just exquisite. Note that there are no cocktails (at least when I visited), just an excellent wine list and non-alcoholic drink options. The dining experience is just as fantastic as the food itself. We went during Covid and their accommodations are fantastic. There are only 2 parties seating per reservation and both tables are more than 6ft apart. You really do have a private bathroom with your party's name on the door. The food is placed on a landing table so there is more than ample social distance being maintained. And the seating area is just gorgeous; well heated (separate heating for the feet included), definitely protected from rain, really aesthetically pleasing and relatively private (you can barely hear or see the other table). It is the best dining experience I've had during Covid and one of the best dining experiences ever. Highly recommend for a rewarding night out!
Michael Tappel
A dining experience to remember. We were one of just two parties on their back patio (with COVID precautions in full force), enjoying the soft outdoor lighting and portable heaters they set us up with. And then, the food: course after course of inventive, local, delicious dishes. Will be my best meal of 2020 for sure, and one that captures the surrealism of this year.
Aaron and team have put together a safe, comfortable, and mouthwatering experience. Do yourself a favor and get a table.
Green Monkey
I've been for dinner on another occasion and attended a wine bar event this time. Had their sourdough bread to nibble on and a popcorn panna cotta dessert to go with with the Washington sparkling wine tasting flight.
Teresa Tekulve
The Tomato Braised Chicken for 2 on Surrell’s take home menu is outstanding. It’s perfect with decadent, creamy polenta, and roasted vegetables ideal in flavor and texture. The meal provided my husband and I a great food memory amidst all the chaos. For a moment we forgot everything else and just enjoyed an excellent, satisfying meal.
While I must admit I am Chef Aaron’s mom, I’m writing this review without partiality. The food is truly delicious!

Best Pandemic Outdoor dining experience in Seattle! If you're looking for a special, safe, delicious place to dine with a loved one while staying warm, make a reservation to eat here now. There's fine dining and then there's EXCELLENT dining. They provide TWO space heaters at the table, one for you upper body & lower body! You may still need a blanket on those chilly nights, but the intimacy & creativity in this dining experience is worth it.
Dan Jost
Amazing dining experience!!! They've taken incredible steps to create a cozy, inviting environment on their patio. The food was creative and delicious, service outstanding and with a great team. Highly recommended and will definitely be back!!!

We just had our 2nd superb dinner Saturday night at Surrell, this time to celebrate 2 birthdays in our family! Gorgeous outdoor setting, exquisite attention to detail, super safe (each of the two tables has their own bathroom!) and food to, seriously, die for. Munching on their homemade smoked granola with cherries and dark chocolate that they sent us home with as I write this. We'll be back soon...get those heaters fired up!

I can't say enough praising things about the food, service and attention to detail that went into my dinner experience. I will always suggest this place to people for an exceptionally well conceived and themed menu from first dish to last. I'm absolutely coming here again very soon.
Rebecca Marshburn
From the food to the ambience to the creativity to the sense this place gives you of the suspension of time, Surrell is a magical experience. The chef and his first lady are immaculate hosts, and this place earns its title as Seattle's best restaurant one hundred times over and back. Get a reservation and start the anticipation...it's something to look forward to indeed.

I'm a fairly recent transplant and have been looking for good top-tier restaurants in the area. I've been somewhat disappointed until we went here. This past week was our 2nd time. This place is definitely on its way to a Michelin Star. It reminds me a lot of Lazy Bear is SF.

Chef’s Tasting menu was incredible!! Not only delicious but beautiful.Service was spot on ❤️

Quite possibly the best dining experience ever!
Words cannot describe the amazing service care & concern for each party and guest.
When you inquire about reservations I am sure they will describe everything they do for your enjoyment and everyone's safety.
