Reviews of Son Of A Butcher
Xiaojing Ji
The barbeque meat is fresh and well-portioned. The food tastes great and authentic. However, we ordered the beef combo and the restaurant ran out of the cheese fondue dish in combo, so we replaced this out of stock dish with a similar item, we found it nonsense to charge this item separately, in addition to exactly full price combo despite one less dish as out of stock. If we pay the replaced dish, then it only makes sense to also deduct $ from the combo for the dish they couldn't serve, but we paid full price for the "replaced" item, as well as the invisible/unavailable food in the combo, this logistic is trivially wrong. Thus, I do like the food here, but I won't recommend this place to my friends.

One of the best Korean BBQ spots I’ve been in Seattle. The meats were great quality and fresh. The sides were delicious. Some dishes were salty but it was good. Overall good experience and I think the beef combo is enough for 4 people.
Paul Kang
This is a great place to kick back with a small group, eat tasty, authentic food, and drink.
They’re fairly popular, so you’ll want to make reservations or put your name down for a table.
It’s pricey in comparison to an All You Can Eat place, focusing on higher quality dishes. If you’re looking to stuff yourself, check out Palace in Bellevue.
However, they stock a lot of authentic dishes, and cuts of meat that you don’t find outside of Korea (moksal, gopchang).

We really enjoyed our dinner here. They were super accommodating when our Uber got lost. The food was very fresh and the restaurant very clean. We ate the pork belly, brisket, and beef short rib. We fed 4 people quite easily with this amount. Staff was very kind and efficient.

Delicious Korean bbq! The restaurant has an authentic Korean restaurant vibe, and the waiters/waitress were all friendly. Bbq meats were great for meat lovers, but their seafood pancakes and tofu soup were amazing too. Not so many Korean restaurants in Seattle and this one is probably my favorite.
Karen Alexandra Martinez
We ordered the meat combo, it was delicious! The steamed egg is the best egg I have ever tried. The combo is good for 2-3 people, it includes sides, good portions of meat, soup, and my beloved egg. We will happily go back!

Parking lot is small so , you should find parking lot front street . Not difficult. There is Plenty of it. Very kind staff. Most of food here was pretty good. It reminded me of Korea , LA. ! They have a special stone grill for bbq which is from Korea(my friend told me) The steam egg was so good~ (seriously, , not many place has good taste steam egg as a Bancan ) . We ordered Pork and seasoned Galbi . Both were good.

Pros: Good food, great dipping sauces, less common meat options such as large and small intestine
Cons: Reservation issues, slow service, forgotten items
As many reviews have pointed out, the service here has a lot of room for improvement. I experienced issues before even getting to the restaurant. I made a reservation for two a couple of days ahead of time to celebrate my birthday. Because of the negative reviews related to service, I decided to call the day of to confirm my reservation. Apparently they hadn't actually taken my information down when I first called. There were able to accommodate me but it's not a good first impression.
After being seated and placing an order for 3 items plus drinks, we waited for over 40 minutes to receive our food and weren't given drinks until we flagged a waitress down and reminded them an additional 10 minutes later. Good thing we weren't very thirsty because refills were never offered. Later in the meal, we asked for two orders of rice. After waiting for a bit, we were only brought one bowl and again had to remind the waitress of our order.
All these delays also take up a lot of the meal time they have allotted for you. Online, they ask you to take no more than 90 minutes, but that can be difficult when over half of it passes by just waiting for food.
So why 4 stars? The food is really good and it's fun to use the grill. I loved trying large intestine for the first time, the bulgogi was flavorful, the pork jowl killer and I could literally eat spoonfuls of the green dipping sauce they provide. If they had even decent service, I would give a glowing 5 star review.
Sophia Asing-Yuen
Call ahead for reservations!! We were able to get a table for the same evening when I called as soon as they opened. Portions are pretty large, we did one pork combo + beef bulgogi and that was a lot of food even for 4 people. Great side dishes, good quality. I’d definitely suggest this place if you’re in the mood for K BBQ - especially for groups!

Son of a Butcher has got to have the absolute best Korean BBQ in Seattle area. Top quality meats, ingredients, and exceptional service.
While the meat is always the star, the Banchan and other dishes we ordered were absolutely delicious. Their kimchi stew is by far the best I've ever had.
Food was fresh and delicious, portion size was amazing for the money. The quality of the meat is beyond my expectation!
Love the presentation, will be back for more and highly recommend.
Siwon Hong
Me and my girlfriends came out for our girls night out! Our server JT, made out time together so fun and comfortable. The meat was great quality and we loved everything we ate! We are definitely coming back with friends and family.
Aaron Salvador
Their customer service is really great! Always checked on us if everything’s good and greeted us nicely when we came. I hope it’s like this again the next time I come back.
Philip Chi
The dark wood interior feels nice and upscale, but not flashy. Getting welcomed in with the smell of the grilled food from other customers was a great introduction.
The grill and fan style are very reminiscent of the kbbq places you'd find in Korea, and it is great as you won't walk out smelling like smoke and meat.
Banchan selection was good, everything was crisp, fresh, and not presented poorly. Although they never came back to give a refill on anything as they were nowhere to be seen.
The ambience was nice and casual, definitely not crowded and popular compared to other Korean restaurants, and the price tag is a bit on the higher side than most that provide a similar quality with their cut of meats.
The customer service doesn't exist. They were all on their mobile phones in the kitchen and flagging one down is an impossibility unless you catch one serving an entree to another customer.
They will never check up on you, never refill your water unless you walk almost into the kitchen to get their attention.
They will not replace your grill, not that we needed to, as we've done this many times and are able to not create a completely char-covered grill; although it might also speak to how well their marinating technique is. But the patrons two tables behind me were having a bonfire and could have greatly benefited from this part of the service (as it could be a fire hazard).
After handing us the check, I put my card in the cup with the receipt they brought it in. But having not realized at the time that they don't do customer service, my friend and I waited almost half an hour before I decided to head towards their bar/kitchen and see them all on their phones in a circle.
Their attitude was polite and exactly as I expected from a Korean restaurant. But the service itself is exactly at the bare minimum at most, which was seeing them exactly four times
1. Taking the order
2. Bringing the banchan and one 8oz cup of water
3. Bringing the food
4. Bringing the check (but not taking the check)
As you can see, the above four things, these are all one-way tasks/interactions without any customer input involved. They are gone as soon as they can serve you while you are distracted with the plating.
I only went in with just another friend to treat him out for his birthday, so there was no 20% gratuity fee that others have experienced (on top of the tipping).
But at this price point, there are better options for an overall well-rounded experience. But if you prefer a more private dining experience, perhaps this place would work for you. If it's not busy, you and whomever you are eating with, will feel like the only people in the restaurant, in the almost literal sense of the word.

Growing up in LA, my expectations of Korean BBQ is very high and this place has met my standard. Food was amazing, service was not too bad but little bit slow but understandable for busy place. Banchan was very good compare to other KBBQ and their meat quality was great.
YeJi An
The best kbbq in Seattle! The staff were super friendly and the meat delicious. We ended up eating every single piece of the pork combo (2 people)! We were super full by the end, but it was so so worth it.
We got: 1 pork combo + 1 bowl of rice.
Not pictured are the steamed eggs and soybean paste stew that come with the combo.

The vibe and the food are great. It's a small place with just a few tables. We visited there at around 5 pm on the weekend and had to wait for a table for about 10 min, which is not too bad. They serve both single dishes like tofu soup and cold noodles as well as Korean BBQ. I recommend their BBQ for the quality of the meat. However, it's not cheap. We had for people and the whole meal was $110. We ordered 3 different meat, 1 seafood pancake, and a steamed egg. The size portion was not too big. Overall, a great BBQ place to try!
Steven
Honest review: the food was decent. The wait time to get food was a tad bit longer than usually kbbq places what made me give the 3 star rating is the fact that it’s hot af in the restaurant.
Onee Nakano
Due to COVID the place is taking precautions of taking tables out and spacing parties. Only 5 guests are allowed at 1 table.
Now to the food. Every piece of meat was excellent and high quality. Side dishes were cooked well and paired well with our meals. The place is pricey and not all you can eat BUT you do get your money's worth of high quality food and service.
The combos really are a great way to start off with a meal and the amount of food given is a satisfactory amount for the price. (Our party was 4 but we eat for like 6 people and the side dishes and main meat platters kept us full)
Rachael Lombardi
I’m from Buffalo NY and my best friend took me here since we both wanted to experience Korean BBQ so she held out until I came into town and wow food was amazing and our waiter was awesome he really explained to us what everything was since we were lost on what to get but the sauces & food was fantastic along with our waiter thank you so much for everything!
S H
Services are great, food was also good, mainly bbq anf grill. Sauces could be improved. Music was not that fit the vibe though, too loud. 30-40 dollars average per person
Co
This is the best Korean bbq I’ve been to in Seattle. And I go to a lot. The meat was amazing. The samgyapsal was scored so it was nice and tender and I’ve never seen pork cheek this big before. The steamed egg was huge with a dollop of tobiko. So good.
Courtney Macer
Reliable and tasty! I don't usually have the BBQ because it's a bit pricey, but it's very good. I like the entrees, especially the jjigaes, the yukgaejang, and the seolleongtang. The tteokbokki with ramen noodles is also a winner if you need a new guilty pleasure! I haven't had service issues recently like I did in the past -- seems they have gotten a better system worked out.
HUA-EN LI
The best mid-level korean bbq in downtown Seattle. They have big serving of food. The quality and freshness of the meat are great. The steamed egg and side dishes are also pretty authentic in a korean way. Clean and comfortable place.
Jay Pele
Good quality Korean BBQ in Seattle. Leave the downtown area and venture to this spot for a fun night and good food.
Susan Kim
JT, was the best server ever. I had so many questions about the menu and hours and JT went out of the way to help me and my friends. I’m a local in SLU and will become a regular just because of JT and his customer service.
Jason Jeong
Great quality meats (bulgogi and beef brisket) and soon tofu was very tasty. Coupled that with Terra Korean beer and you’ve got yourself a great meal. Great vibe and Staff was great also. Can’t wait to go again!
Chungmin Jeong
This is better than the one in Korea.I think here is the best Korean BBQ in STL
Sun Hwang
Great place for Korean bbq in Seattle.
Meat quality is excellent compared to other Korean bbq places in the area.
L Ty
Presentation is good. Service was better than how other reviews described. Not sure about the taste. Fried rice after this is very bland since they throw in a lot of rice without extra spicy sauce.
Peter “Greetings”
This place gets real busy and you will understand why people come here to feast. Highly recommend their beef and pork combo!
Ashley Gonsalves
Amazing experience. Amazing food. Great service.
The quality of the food is very good. The vegetables are fresh.
Anthony
A bit expensive, but I dig it. The quality and side dishes were good. I also really like the grill and ventilation system
Jessica Norgard
The food was AMAZING! The staff was helpful and friendly. They came to help before even being asked.
Ron Ko
Wow, I am impressed! The best hidden gem in Seattle! We came based on a recommendation from a friend. From start to finish, this was the best Korean BBQ experience we have ever had in the United States.
The quality of the meats were the best we have had for Korean BBQ in Washington by a long shot. The flavors are on another level. Starting with the Korean beef tartare and side dishes to our main entrees and meat selections, everything was fresh and extremely tasty.
The Korean food here is modern yet authentic. We were absolutely stuffed by the time we were done.
I read some reviews about long waits and service issues, but it looks like they worked out those issues. We did not have to wait at all and the service was first class. The restaurant was spotless and everyone was following the protocols set by the Department of Health (since COVID-19). We will definitely be coming again soon.
Krystina Lee
Best cuts of meat I’ve ever had at Korean BBQ.
CJ Dayringer
Excellent quality Korean barbecue. Expensive but top tier. Marinated intestine was really delicious and fatty
Ben Elsdon-Dew
If you're looking for authentic grill your own KBBQ then this is the spot. Ive found other spots in Seattle won't let you grill your own meat but this establishment will! The portions are large and the complementary sides are delicious. Will definitely be going back.
Andrew Fang
The food here was really authentic and delicious. We ordered the pork belly and it was succulent and juicy without too much fat. The cheese corn was tasty but the banchan side dishes were also excellent and flavorful. If you come here with a group I highly recommend the dakgalbi, it's a chicken, sweet potato, cabbage stew that is a little spicy but so good. We ordered the fried rice to sop up the leftover sauce and ate that as our dessert. This place has a very long wait (we waited over an hour at 5pm) and it is a little bit pricier than you would get in LA, but it is worth the wait. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for Korean food in Seattle.
Edit: I see a lot of reviews criticizing the service. I didn't have any issues, but I could see the 1-2 hr waits for the tables with the grills overwhelming the staff if the seating was poorly planned/timed.
Karl Hallesy
My son loves Korean BBQ and we have a lot of good ones in the South end but he found this one on Yelp and boy were we in for a treat! The best prepared and freshest food ever! The meat quality was better than we have ever had and even my wife who is not big on meats could not resist here! I would give it the highest rating possible with my only desire for them to open a second restaurant in the South end! I am coming back as soon as I can get to the area! My highest recommendation you will not be dissapointed!!
john kim
Amazing. Price is very reasonable and there is plenty of free parking available. I went with the beef combo and pork combo and it was definitely enough for 6 adults. Their Kimchi and side dishes were really delicious and the quality of their meats and ingredients were really good too.
You may have to wait a bit since this joint is very popular, but they have a great bar too so you can enjoy some drinks if you have to wait for a table. Overall, this is a very pleasant casual korean bbq restaurant that I'm happy to have in the neighborhood. Definitely will be back for some more!
Harver Yang
During this stay-at-home situation, we ordered the take out from them. The take out was really well packed and also came with four side dishes. Since we don't usually see Dak-galbi in other Korean restaurants in our area, we decided to give it a try. It's very spicy but the taste was surprising good.
Robert H
Omg. I just ordered a couple dishes through Grubhub. I can’t even describe how wonderful it was. Not to mention the quantity was off the deep end. These people are producing incredibly unique great food for next to nothing. Definitely the best delivery order I’ve ever made. A rare thing indeed. I had a noodle dish (I expect all will be excellent) and the Soon Tofu Jjigae Seafood (side of steam rice). My 2 dishes could have fed a family. I will eat this food on every occasion possible. Thank you. Competent cuisine is so rare these days.
Evelyn Kim
Service was awesome and the food is great! Definitely coming back.
Zane M
good portion size, grill your own meats at your own table, and delicious. They are super low pressure too, the staff doesn't try to push you to order or get you to leave before your ready like a lot of KBBQ places sometimes do. Good ventilation at the tables so your clothes won't smell too much like bbq at the end of the night! great place, even has a small parking lot.
Ryan French
Good food but they really have something going on with their service. Definitely shouldn't be the case for the prices they charge. We were seated but didn't get menus for ages. Once we finally ordered we didn't get everything we ordered and had to ask for it multiple times. We also had to ask for water. Bummer!
cecilia
Is the best Korean bbq that I never had.
Diana Lee
Finally was able to check this KBBQ spot. So worth the wait! The quality of the meat is noticable. We got the beef combo and an order of pork belly, and each cut was super tender. Good variety in side dishes, too. So glad there's a quality KBBQ spot near me now!
Amanda Smith
Long wait for bbq or Dakgalbi because they don't have many tables with the burner and vent, and turnover is slow. If you don't want bbq, there's a bar and a couple other tanks available. We waited at least 45min on a Monday evening. Came here specifically for Dakgalbi. Loved it in chuncheon so was looking forward to trying it again. The actually Dakgalbi was good (served with banchan but no rice or lettuce ). The volcano fried rice was crunchy but not the crispy rice rolls I remember so fondly. Also had the appetizer wings with sweet and spicy sauce which were amazing. Korean beer, soju cocktails and Soju by the bottle are served. Don't b like that the drink menu doesn't have prices.
Matt Mead
BIG flavor in a small operation. This sleepy neighborhood KBB joint is amazing. Prices aren't astronomical like you run into often given the cuisine and the service is solid. Definitely a great place to eat and their customizable chicken dish is insane, could make a meal just out of that.
Younee Lee
The best Korean BBQ in the city and definitely worth paying for it. Service was great and they were on point. You really can't go wrong with the food in this place.
John Lee
Good was great but service definitely could have been more timely.
Chris S
This is the best Korean BBQ place around lake union. They also have a full bar here. Reasonable price. Great food. A nice place for a small group under 4 to hangout.
Andrew Tsai
Pretty great KBBQ spot in east lake if you're in the area. This is NOT a AYCE, but we weren't even able to finish the Beef combo between the two of us, so you're getting plenty of bang for your buck.
We compared this place to Meet KBBQ in capital hill and I think the cost and vibe of Son of a Butcher is much more our speed. It's slightly cheaper and has a more homey feel.
There's also an attached bar and parking lot, so its super convenient for a starting spot for a night out.
Ze Chen
Meat is fresh and tasty, but service is really slow. Only one staff to manage 8 tables, so I have to wait 30 minutes to get a bottle water.
sandra hinojosa
Tasty cocktails. Nice selection of soju. Delicious Korean bbq. Bulgogi was fantastic. Clean, chic environment. Great service. I forgot I was in a strip mall.
Jong Lee
Terrible service where there were open tables but made us wait, so we left. The menu prices are expensive.
Second try - still slow service and the side dishes suck, but the entree was good.
Jaydon Kim
Best Korean BBQ in Seattle thumbs up 👍 …

Best meat in town! The real real son of a butcher 🔥😃🥩 …
Trong Huynh
Food took too long, was average tasting, and they ran out of rice at dinner time.
Owen Lee
Good food but it's shame that they have a 1.5 hour restriction per table so you'll be asked to move to the bar.
stephanie harrell
Food was good atmosphere okay, ugly neighborhood

Fun atmosphere, decently priced (and delicious) soju

This place fills up quickly, so a reservation or coming in early would be recommended. It's also the type of place where servers are really busy and you may need to flag them down for orders.
