Reviews of Lionhead
Samuel Chen
Delicious food and a great experience! Server was super friendly and helpful. The food was good and there were a few unique options. I would definitely recommend! There was one dish that had a little bit too many dried chili's, and not enough of everything else, but otherwise it was perfect.

They have a diverse and large selection of vegetarian options, almost half the menu. We ordered ghost pepper noodles, pumpkin cumin dumplings, and sweet, sour and tingling fried eggplant. Every dish had completely different flavor profiles, but equally intense flavors. The noodles were a tad bit too spicy, but then they definitely had the ghost pepper in there. Their non alcoholic drinks were a surprise; they use actual pulpy lychee juice!
The place itself isn't very formal or unique. Go here for the punchy flavors.

Absolutely amazing Sichuan. I feel like at many Sichuan places, all dishes taste similar but not here. Each dish was so unique & flavorful. On top of the amazing food, our server Lindsey was so happy & knowledgeable about the menu. Her energy & attitude made the experience 2x better. I left happier because of her and the food.

Yummy! Very spicy, so cool and a spice experience I’ve never had before. Numbing and bitter, so crazy! Very cool. Weird vibe in the space though honestly. Looks super cute and cozy from the outside, but inside it looks kind of unfinished. We only saw 2 people working and service was super slow. We were about to order full dinner after appetizers but it took 2 hours just to get some mapo and a drink so we decided to close out.
I had high hopes for this place but it seems as if they just don’t have the staff. Super unfortunate! We’ll try again in a couple months.

We ordered the Pork Dumplings in Chili Sauce, the Ma Po Doufu, Gung Bao chicken, and Dan Dan mian. I thought everything was amazing. It was WAY too much for 3 people. I’d ask your server which meals are good for splitting. I thought the food and service was amazing. We’ll definitely come back. Great if you like Szechuan.

Excellent food! We tried this place for the first time and was pleasantly surprised how great it was. We weren't able to try a lot of the menu as there were only two of us and the portions are large. But what we ordered: “boneless crisp duck”, “yu xiang eggplant fries” was delicious and flavorful. Their drinks are delicious too, try “Chinese 5 spice old fashioned”. All dishes can be gluten free upon request. Service was great! Recommend for big company.

Overall a great experience including the service. Their house made chili oil is absolutely fire - salty with good acidity and a decent kick of heat. The mapo doufu was good, but I wish there was more doufu - sauce to doufu ratio was a little off, and I also would have liked a little more Sichuan peppercorn. Normally when I order that dish I don’t want to be able to feel my mouth. Regardless, still good. Cumin lamb noodles had a ton of meat. Noodles were perfectly cooked and flavorful. Will be back to try some of the other stuff on the menu!

Had a lovely meal here. Vegetarian friendly. It wasn't spicy for my palette, but great flavors.
We got the mushroom dumplings, Dan dan noodles, and Silken tofu with mushroom garlic and a side of rice.
We also had the Heirloom tomato salad which was a contrasting freshness to the spice.
On a prior visit I had the La Zi Ji, which I also loved, but wanted a little more chicken.
Mari Vel
The food was so yummy and their portions are very generous for the price! We were also gifted shots of their numbing tequila after our meal. I don't quite know what to make of the numbing spices, but I will definitely be coming back and bringing friends too!
Alex Nguyen
What a great place to get Sichuan food. My favorite dish would be the dumplings and the fried chicken (wish there was more). The dan dan noodles were great and very spicy. The veggies were good and flavorful.
Kumar Abhishek
Nice vegeyerain selection of Sichuan cuisines. Veg mapo tofu is tongue tingling and a gives a new dimension of senses.
Madrona Beach
Excellent food! Spicy but not too spicy. Played rock music I liked but may not be to everyone's taste. Great service.
Sarah Gagné
They could take a group of 8 with 45 minutes notice on a Sunday night - happy already. Restaurant was small but pretty cute. Food was fantastic. We shared dishes with the lazy Susan table. Highly recommend the eggplant fries and the rice cakes with Chinese bacon. We came with a vegetarian and a vegan and there was plenty for them to enjoy. We ordered about 8 dishes and shared all of them.
However, skip the numbing cocktail - nobody at our table liked it.

Lindsay is an absolute GEM. she makes your experience even better from the moment you walk in the door. All the food is absolutely amazing, perfect szechuan flavor and all spiced perfectly. The food, the portion sizes, the service, the ambiance, and price were all perfect. awesome spot on Broadway. Hopefully when you come in, you’ll have Lindsay as a server!

Recommended by a local and it wasd fabulous! Come in a group so you can share the generous entrees and get to try many different things. The appetizer dumplings were amazing and the fried tofu dish my daughter was sublime.
Tony R
The food was amazing. We got the mushroom mapo and it was perfect. More than enough food for two people, so I highly recommend sharing. I was a little disappointed in my tamarind margarita: it was tasty but pretty light on the tequila, and the Sichuan salt was really just salt.
The service was a bit slow, but I think they were just understaffed. Food arrived quickly once we were able to order it.
The atmosphere was kind of nice, but it was far too loud. I wish restaurants would install sound dampening panels. There was a large party near us and we could barely understand each other without shouting.
Delta Varela-Glos
A unique Sichuan Chinese restaurant for diners looking to try something less common. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was excellent! We split the Rice Cakes and Chinese Bacon & the Five Spice Braised Duck which made for a very filling and delicious experience. Deboning the duck takes a little getting used to but well worth it!
Joshua Riley
Food was the best I’ve had in a while. I love family style with actual family style proportions and Lionhead absolutely delivered! The cumin lamb noodles were my favorite. Staff was extra gracious as well

Wow- awesome food and even better SERVICE! Adam is a new legend in our book- made sure we were happy…such a lost art these days. Oh and the fried rice does not disappoint. Thank you!
Sara O
Fantastic Sichuan restaurant with authentic and different menu options. Slightly pricey, but the meal was worth it. Each dish was delicious and the cocktails were well crafted as well. I really enjoyed the eggplant fries as well as their dan dan noodles. Things were appropriately spicy with a good lingering heat that didn't have your eyes watering. It's best to go with a group so you can try more items and meals are served family style. I'd suggest making a reservation.
JP
Great local spot for some good old Americanized Chinese comfort food like Kung Pao Chicken. Their spicy cumin beef is just fantastic and I'm salivating as I'm thinking about it. I loved their version of Dan Dan Mien and their stuffed Fried Tofu skin. All their dishes are well executed for what they are. They use good quality, locally sourced ingredients which reflects in the price of the dishes, but well worth it. Their food is flavorful and the portions are generous. The space can get a bit cramped but they have a full bar and also do take-out and delivery of you don't wanna wait around. Highly recommended if you're all about quality.
黑木
This is my first time wanting to know who the chief is. He definitely thinks outside the box and thoughtfully flavors every dish. He is inspired by Sichuan food, but has his own twist and his own take. I can tell he is trying to tell a story by tasting the dishes. I am especially impressed by La Zi Ji. It’s Sichuan inspired La Zi Ji but crossed with Taiwanese Popcorn chicken. Great job, Jerry!
Barsha Shrestha
They did not have a huge selection of menu due to covid. However, there were plenty of tasty sounding options to choose from. I got their cumin chilli beef and it was really good. The portion size was pretty good too. I also ordered a side of rice which could be enough for two people. They had their indoors dine-in setup with enough distance between tables and the server was super nice as well. They even gave us their peppercorn vodka on house. Definitely coming back again.
Nancy
Just got off the plane and the first place we stop at is this place. Thankfully, there was a public parking spot nearby. The ambiance is nice, service is great, and the dishes tasted pretty good. However, as someone who has had Sichuan cuisine in Sichuan, some of the dishes were not exactly authentic. Also, the price point is definitely up there. Overall, if they can improve upon the portions given for the price charged, I would recommend it.
Yingkai Wang
Overall nice American Chinese dish. They serve real spicy food here, unlike most other American Chinese restaurants that claim spicy but not at all. The food is a little bit too salty. Cozy place, great service (auto add 20% tip)
Uvania
The service and food were great! Small dining area but filled with all much deliciousness and attentive staff! Definitely will go back for more Sichuan cuisine!

Loved this place.
We made an online reservation and when we showed up the place was packed which is always good to see.
The cocktails were outstanding to start and the entrees we ordered were so tasty and flavorful. Hot, flavorful, complex, and interesting dishes.
Our server Elijah was great. He was very attentive.
Afterwards, the owner Garrett came out and we had a very nice discussion about his wonderful restaurant and life in Seattle.
Highly recommend Lionhead.
Tim Swanson
Amazing, they do wonderfully on the standards but really excel with innovation in their specials. I was warned the feint of heart cocktail was strong with Szechuan peppercorn, and alcohol forward. These are both truer than I expected, recommended.
Eddy Duprase
The eggplant fries are amongst my favorite food items in the whole city. Every time I've been able to eat dumplings here (currently there are mushroom ones on special) they've been incredible as well
Justin Grasse
Great Chinese food, which I've found a bit rare in Seattle. Some of the dishes are a bit exotic so be prepared for some interesting flavors including a floral, mouth numbing pepper that's all over the menu. I strongly recommend the salt and pepper tofu!
Charles Nowell
We enjoyed the food; with only a couple of dishes that left us looking for a little bit more flavor (or uniqueness). The Boneless Duck had a surprisingly bold and lasting flavor without any of the typical accompaniments like the chili sauce. What we enjoyed the most though was...the Caramelized Pineapple drink (non-alcoholic). It was so sensationally spicy and exotic.
Now, the service left us writing this review before we left the restaurant. It was not horribly crowded so we couldn't understand why the service was so poor. We were polite and appreciative throughout the experience but rarely felt the level of service expected in a spot where a 20% gratuity is already included in the bill, no matter the size of the party. I guess I answered my own question. 4.25 stars for the food & drink; but 1.5 stars for the service. Btw...we normally tip 25-28% for moderate service 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏻♀️
Michael Keel
This place is dope. Ordered many dishes and was pleasantly surprised by all of them. Excellent mouth tingle for Szechuan. Cocktails were also on point. Do yourself a favor and get a few seasonal dishes as well as your usual.
Thomas Butler
Dumplings + hot noodles (apps) were better than the main entree (duck). One waiter was solid the other one was not too gregarious.
Gary Ma
Nice menu with dishes you don't always find in many Chinese restaurants such as pea vines and rose bud dumplings. However, the food ranges across a wide spectrum from absolutely delicious to very mediocre. The fungus salad was fantastic and so was the fried chicken. On the other hand, the fried rice was flavorful but the rice was soft, not the way fried rice is supposed to taste and the pea vine with shiitake mushrooms was imexplicably salty. Overall, the food was good but overpriced.
Aspen Knight
This is my 1st time at the small cozy place for spicy szechuan-style food that's very flavorful. The pigs ear is a tad on the salty side so have it with rice. The staff is very attentive, courteous, and accommodating esp. in a crowded place. I like the hot buckwheat noodle dish the most. I also ordered fried cubed chicken, La Zi Ji (shown below). Go there and enjoy.
Millie Dworkin
omg every dish i had was amazing; i highly recommend the salty and Sichuan tofu
Matthew Weirath
One of my favorite dining locations in Capitol Hill. Honestly their service is down a bit, but I feel like everyplace is suffering still so I won't knock them at this time. The food is and has remained top notch. Make sure to try their eggplant fries and my husband loves their Dan Dan noodles. We have been coming here for about 3 or 4 years and never had a bad meal.
Richard Wan
The food is great but doesn't taste like Sichuan cuisine. The cumin beef used a distinctively American beef cut; the La Zi Ji tastes more in line with Taiwanese popcorn chicken; the crispy half duck uses a Sichuan flavor profile (鱼香) but that's probably where its link to Sichuan ends. All the dishes we ordered tasted decent but just don't taste like Sichuan cuisine.
Lan Ngo
Good but for much cheaper price and more satisfying Chinese restaurant’s vibes probably should have picked a different place
Helene Wu
Phenomenal experience. Top-notch food and attentive wait staff. Have been here multiple times, and every time is an amazing experience all around. I always take my out-of-town guests here, as the food is always superb. Definitely a lifetime customer!
They've got a great variety and fine value seasonal menu. Exciting food with an interesting interpretation of classic Sichuan dish; They recently added more vegetarian options on the menu! Be sure to try the spring pea and mint dumplings (if they still offer that) and eggplant fries; Definitely a highlight of Capitol hill's neighborhood.
Rorie S. Ching
Everything from the food to the service to the atmosphere was so artfully coordinated and absolutely delicious. Will definitely be going back!!! 🎀 …
Zoshua Colah
I ordered the Veg Mapo Tofu. It was a very good serving and rich in flavor. However it numbed my mouth and began to feel very weird after a few bites. On asking them more about it I was informed it has mouth numbing sichuan peppers. I do wish this was a disclaimer on the menu itself. A simple asterisks mark could help with a note on the same. Since I didn't feel comfortable eating the dish they were kind to not charge me for it. Because of their polite hospitality I will return and ensure I order something a little safer next time.
Fabio Governato
Why did I wait so long to try Lionhead. Woe is me! Dropped in starving after a long run and... I *really* enjoyed dinner at Lionhead. Food was delicious (braised duck and vegetables), presentation and service were impeccable and friendly. Ambience is cozy/relaxed, def a step up from 'casual', without making it to 'pretentious' . I will visit again because I liked it, and probably again and again ...just to make sure ;).
Fernando Lopez
Incredible food! The eggplant fries are a must have but really you can't go wrong, I've slowly been making my way down the menu and the only thing I've regretted is not being able to eat more!! Also the complimentary Szechuan peppercorn infused shot you get at the end is awesome!!
Eric Candell
By far the most unique and high quality Chinese food you will ever have. The blistered okra is delicious as well as the MaPo Tofu. Innovative cocktails too.
K B
I really want to like this place more, but like some of the other reviews have mentioned, it is REALLY spice heavy. I read reviews prior to going into Lionhead, so I already had expectations set to experience a lot of salt, etc but it was still a lot.
To be fair, it’s not necessarily super salty, but there is a heavy dose of cumin and other spices that ultimately make the dishes a little overwhelming. As a result, no particular flavors have a chance to really shine through :( for example, when we asked the server his thoughts on the Chili Cumin Beef, he described it as “a psychedelic tongue trip”. He was right. The incredibly heavy lid of cumin made the entire dish seem salty, a bit coarse and definitely left my tongue tingly (not in a great way unfortunately).
I did like the Gung Bao Chicken and Smashed Cucumber & Radish salad! My boyfriend also loved the Axian Noodles. But the Chili Cumin Beef and the Salt & Sichuan Pepper tofu left us chugging water for the rest of the night.
Michael Tanner
Amazing Chinese food. Very authentic and tons of fun. Strong and delicious cocktails pair perfectly with the flavorful dishes!
Kayla Young
Food was all right but nothing to write home about. The wait for our takeout was the kicker. We called to order late dinner on a Saturday to pick up and when we got there, it wasn't ready. That's completely fine. However, we kept getting told every 10 minutes that our food would be another 5 minutes. Meanwhile, I saw 6 dishes come out of the kitchen for diners eating inside and 4 orders for Uber Eats. There were 4 tables occupied with couples. This went on for 40 minutes until we finally received our food.
Overall, I would recommend to eat inside to have your food prioritized. Otherwise, you'll probably wait quite a while.
Laurian Bowles
Adam was a fabulous server and the food is divine. Forgot to take pictures cuz we ate so well
jfrieck
Apps were really good, but main courses (duck, brussel sprouts, beef and fish) came out over salted. I would stick with happy hour apps if returning. Service was prompt and attentive.
Rik Schutte
Excellent food. The eggplant fries were fantastic, fair warning, they are spicy. I don't do spicy, but they were so good I still ate them up lol.
Dan Haeg
Whatever this dish was called, it was really good. It reminded me of similar meals I’ve had in China.
Michael G. Barash
Extremely delicious and reasonably priced. I am definitely coming back!
McKinley Larson
Delicious dinner and cocktails. Loved the numbing heat on our chicken, and really loved that family style was suggested as we love to eat that way anyway when we go out. Will 100% be back again soon.
John Adolphsen
Thier seasonal pumpkin dumplings are amazing! The tofu is cooked and seasoned beautifully! Thier sauces are just the right amount of spicy and delicious! Definately coming back here again and again! Happy to have a vegetarian Chinese place to go to :)
Joe Wilson
Really, truly authentic Sichuan food in Seattle, the best I've had since I lived in China. Also great service! Would definitely recommend the rockfish or the LaZiJi.
Alexandra Orme
We live around the corner and love this place! Not cheap, but worth the freshness. Part of the menu rotates. Because of covid they offered to send alcoholic drinks during delivery and I think they kept it up even after opening for sit-down. I have not disliked any dishes.
Shyam Patel
Food was great! Perfect spice level for me.
Tyler Sohl
I went to Lionhead with a buddy who's from Szechuan Provence for dinner, and we had a great time with their casual fine dining experience! My buddy had much to say about the authenticity and likeness to his hometown cuisine that Lionhead serves. He even rated the Dan Dan Noodles with a 8/10 (which on his scale is a very high, if not exceptional rating!). We learned through interactions with the staff that the chef studied French cuisine, but constructed an authentic Chinese menu.
LH is great for dates as everything from the hip music, to the tableware and Chinese artwork and wood sculptures make for great atmosphere to enjoy a night out.
Ayushi jain
I live in Issaquah but I happily drive 30 mins to just get their takeout, and I dislike driving. This restaurant is that good. They have so many good vegetarian options. The food is really amazing both in terms of taste and quality. I’ve never had tofu so good. I’m a regular here and will definitely keep getting my weekly takeouts from them.😊
Kenneth Bakke
The food was great, service was very attentive and quick despite it being a Friday night and what looked like 3 FOH staff. They killed it and we had a great time. We felt very safe due to mask requirements when not at the table and they checked everyone's vax card. Will definitely go back.
Richard Priest
Thoughtful menu and service, delicious and spicy food and great portions to share. You would like this place if you enjoy Sichuan food or even if you’re looking to try something new. I haven’t had a bad dish, so try it all.
Craig Wallace
Great small restaurant on Broadway with really interesting and delicious Szechuan style Chinese food.
B B
Tried for the first time and will definitely be going back. I can't speak much to service as we did carry out, but the hostess was friendly and eager to talk about the food when we said it was our first time there.
We tried the La Zi Ji, Cumin Chili Beef, and the potstickers. Menu was trim; I'm sure, like most places, things have been cut to accommodate pandemic service. The entrees were tender and very flavor-spicy, only a little heat-spicy, perfect. Potstickers were soaking in chili oil, which I thought might make them soggy, but they never had the chance to get there since we devoured them so quickly.
For the price (rice costs extra?!), I was hoping to get 2 meals out of it. But alas, both were perfectly sized as one hearty meal, no leftovers to save.
Divit Jawa
Absolutely the best Chinese restaurant in Seattle. Service is 20/10. One of the dishes I ordered, wasn’t what I expected it to be, and they gave me another dish free of charge. Our server, Archer, was extremely courteous. Definitely great food and great service. Must come here.
Emily Raulston
Great service and atmosphere, but we were honestly a little underwhelmed with the flavors. None of our dishes were spicy, even though the menu indicated that they would be. Some of the food was simply bland, but I did enjoy the Salt and Pepper Tofu and Twice-Cooked Pork.
Andrew Stromme
Absolutely delicious. I have tried 15+ chaoshou (the pork dumplings) across the US and these are by far the best, closely resembling what I love from chengdu.
We also had the bone-in 5 spice duck and wok fried okra, both phenomenal. The duck skin was very crispy. Everything had just the right amount of sichuan peppercorn.
Very chipper service. They were really busy with takeout orders but still gave us great attention.
Jeffrey Pelletier
This place is spectacular. There's a really fresh and energetic vibe about the atmosphere (when they're open, not in the current Covid world) and the food itself. The dishes are always spot on and of the highest quality. I really don't think I've had a single bad dish since I started eating there years ago. The highlights for me (although I recommend trying anything) are the dan dan noodles, the rice cakes, the dumpling specials, the okra (so good!), and the La Zi Ji chicken. The 5 spice Manhattan is also superb. If you love szechuan food this is a must to try and even if you don't, this is worth a try as they cook this food like nowhere else.
Carrie
The food was so good - highly recommend!!
Forest Key
Best Chinese in seattle imho; true Sichuan regional flavors with tons of ma-la peppercorn to grab your mouth. The restaurant itself is just passable in terms of ambiance, but come for the food! Or get delivered!
Julia Hudac
We loved all three dishes we tried- but the string beans were so ridiculously good!!! Perfect use of peppercorns in their food- not too numbing but that great floral flavor. Cocktails were uniquely wonderful too. When we miss living in China, we come here for the delicious Chinese cuisine.
Samuel Gass
We went for happy hour and sat at the bar. Food was great and very different than takeout Chinese places-- more authentic and more flavorful. We really enjoyed the frog legs; they were almost like chicken wings. The cocktails were fantastic and really worked nicely with the food... we'll definitely be back!
David G
This place was amaaaazing. Huge servings. We definitely took a lot home. Eating family style. The tea is also great! I highly recommend Lionhear
Pankaj Parag
One of the best Chinese food in Capitol Hill. Tastes just right. I ordered vegetarian food on the menu, tofu. I didn't know tofu can taste so great. The other dish was eggplant, which was also great. Whole ordering keep in mind of hotness and numbness. Not expensive but not cheap either. Overall highly recommended.
Jai Rajgarhia
Wanted to rate 2 stars but I've had great experiences before so felt it was unfair to just review when the experience was unfortunate.
What I ordered :
1. La Zi Ji - this was by far the most disappointing. As far as I know, La Zi Ji, is known to be a bold dish with powerful flavors. This was missing some key things that I feel you'd normally find - garlic and peanuts. The lack of a flavor of szechuan peppercorns made me wonder if those had been added at all. Moreover, the chicken had a chicken nugget feel to them. Tasted like chicken nuggets with some chillies and greens sprinkled around it.
2. Mapo Duofu - Mostly alright. Excellent kick from the peppercorn. However, almost inedibly salty. Ended up having two glasses of water after one spoonful.
3. Kung pao chicken - Great. No problems with this.
Victoria Wagner
SO DELICIOUS.
Communal sharing style, great interior design, and well-informed servers. Ours explained right off the bat that the Szechuan chili pepper corns in the food cause a slightly numbing sensation in the mouth and which is *not* an allergic reaction 😆. The server recommended the Hongyou Chaoshou and the Rockfish with Sour Mustard both of which were spicy and amazing. That plus a beer and 20% tip came to ~$65 which is incredibly fair. Can’t wait to show this unique spot to others. We will be back!
Annie Ramsey-Shearer
OMG this place is amazing!!!! My sister said this is her favorite restaurant in Seattle and I'm not surprised! We ordered the: pork wontons, chili cumin beef, La Zi Ji, Dan Dan noodles, & the Chinese bacon fried rice! All was amazing! And so reasonably priced!! All of that PLUS ab old fashioned, 20% tip on the bill and still less than $100!!! I will totally drive from Lynnwood for this again over and over. Try it!!!
Michael Baxstrom
If you haven't come here yet, you won't be disappointed! This visit is well over the 10th time. My staples were not available and ordered what sounded good. Was still blown away, please make this your next date night, trust me.
Theodore Hellmann
One of the best restaurants in Seattle. Most of the cooking leverages Sichuan peppercorns, which have a unique and fun numbing sensation as opposed to a hot and spicy one. Definitely worth trying.
The staff are also incredibly friendly and full of advice if you’re not sure what or how much to get.
Coco Rebar
Some of the dishes were well suited for take out.
* The takeout dan dan noodles were tough and chewy and dry.
* The takeout side of sauted vegetables were also tough and chewy.
* The only good takeout dish were the potstickers/wonton app. They were still moist, firm and tasty.
I have not dined in Lionhead since before Covid but, I remember that the dan dan noodles and side of cooked greens were great in house.
My suggestion is to get the potstickers for takeout and skip the noodles and vegs.
Judy Hahn
Amazing food. Great vibes. Perfect place. Out waitress was super friendly and her food suggestion was our tastiest if the night. Eggplant fries. The tofu salt and pepper was also excellent. Have to come back with a group to try more food.
James Cooper
Great food, great atmosphere, it’s a neighborhood favorite.
FourSeasons Wind
Loved the Boa, dough pastry has perfect texture.
My favorite is the braised duck, ate up the whole plate.
Even loved the rice.
Friendly staff.
Nice ambiance.
Good Sichuan!
B Z
Our first dish came out really slow however it tasted amazing. We ordered a second dish and it came out much quicker. It is a small restaurant but they do well with the numbing and hot ratings on the menu. A good place to get some Sichuan in cap hill.
Sowmya Pattabhi
Good sichuanese food.Nice variety and good service. Ghost pepper noodle, okra, fried tofu were very tasty and good.
Steve Harrell
Very tasty, and yes spicy, food. The staff was very friendly even though it was a busy Saturday night. Reservations would be recommended.
Lila Westreich
I live nearby Lionhead, and we absolutely adore their food. I've had some Szechuan food in the past, but only in NYC or San Francisco - having the real thing right here in town makes our neighborhood shine. During the COVID-19 shut down, Lionhead has been churning out some of the most amazing food I've ever had. The owner is extremely kind and generous, and everyone who has ever worked at this location has been nothing but thoughtful, helpful, and amazing at their jobs. We love this place! I promise you won't be disappointed (and don't worry, it might seem spicy, but Szechuan food is all about the FLAVOR with the spice - it's worth a few glasses of water!). We love the La Zi Ji, the Dan Dan Noodles (in the classic style!), and the yu choy, as well as the many wontons and tofu dishes. You really can't go wrong.
Adam Smith
Eaten here 2x and delivered beer countless times... The food was fantastic both times AND the kitchen is clean/awesome every time I roll beer through it. Eat here! It's safe, delicious, and you will come back.
Ash B
Hands down best dishes I have had in a long time! 🤙Huge shout out to the owner/chef! Thank you for feeding us last night! I'm still drooling and already craving more. 🤤🤙 Can't forget the awesome service from the staff. Great experience! Can't wait to go back. …
Justin Perry
Amazing food - the La Zi Ji came with so many chilies that it took some digging to find the huge serving of delicious fried chicken. It was mouth-numbing heaven. Awesome drinks too - I tried a couple different funky fruity baijiu that were all delicious. Lastly, awesome staff - friendly and knowledgeable about all the unique flavors you can find there. Same chef/owner as Poppy, so you know you're getting one of the best meals in Seattle.
Mason Ogden
Outstanding food. Every time I go it seems to just get better and better.
Daniel Callahan
My favorite Szechuan food in the city. We always get the La Zi Ji chicken. It is terrific, fried chicken bits perfectly seasoned, and not too heavy. Nothing has disappointed from this place. Their cocktails are also great and pair well with the cuisine.
Liam Jernudd
My favorite Chinese food I've had in Seattle. Definitely pricey, but definitely worth it. They have dishes that are jam packed with flavor and spice, as well as some delicious cocktails!
Joseph Peters-Mathews
While my husband does not like Szechuan food, I had a great time at Lionhead. We ordered too much food and brought it home as leftovers. It was just as good the next day! The bao we had was much bigger than we were expecting, and it was...fine. What we really enjoyed, though, was the cloud fungus salad. I like trying new things, but will probably consistently order the Boneless Crisped Duck. It was divine (and anything that had maitake in it was excellent).
Sophia Kotov
LOVE this place - it's a go-to when any friends or family are in town. I was never a fan of Chinese food before moving to Seattle, but realized it's because I'd never been to SUCH a high quality restaurant! Lionhead is also one of the few restaurants where I'll order the same thing twice - I simply start salivating at the thought of 1) The Yu Xiang Eggplant Fries and 2) The Thick Buckwheat Noodles. Finally, I'm a vegetarian and am thrilled with the veggie selection here. Most restaurants have a fairly limited selection of plant-based options - that's not the case at Lionhead!
Frank Sena
excellent food. The La Zi Ji chicken dish is my favorite - a flavor explosion in your mouth, and beautifully displayed in a bed of red chili peppers! Just be sure to avoid the peppercorns as they can be very bitter. The service is great and the owner is very friendly and helps to create a welcoming environment.

Heard about this place from a friend that knows the owner (Jerry). Went for the first time. Not disappointing. Ordered eggplant fries, braised pork, yam and bacon fried rice, and their crispy duck (special). Overall very flavourful.
The aroma on the eggplant with lightly battered crispy skin and the tanggy, sweet and occasionally numbingly spicy sauce from the szechuan peppercorns was surprisingly simple but good.
The fork tender pulled apart melts in your (mine) mouth braised pork came in a bed of cabbages that had a hint of coconut cream and ginger was addicting.
The yam fried rice had a very nice balance of salty (bacon and I think lap chiong) and sweet (yam/sweet potatoes) and wok smokey flavor. ..though I think it can use more of wok flavor and dryer rice.
The crispy duck special was a huge duck breast with crispy batter, sweet and sour-ish, mushrooms and garlic slivers. It was tender and tasty but I was hoping for crispy skin instead of just crispy batter... but still good.
Small place so come early though they clear up table fairly quickly for more customer. Service was fast and servers were great. Priced reasonably in this area. Will definitely come back again when have a chance.

Came in with a group of 4. Service was a bit slow at times but the food quality made up for it. The five spice braised duck, although slightly expensive, was cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The water spinach was impeccable and the Mapo tofu was amazing.

We had a fabulous dinner at Lionhead. Garret did a great job explaining all the intricacies of the food preparation and the various tastes and experiences we could anticipate. The portions were quite large and we all enjoyed our meals. I highly recommend Lionhead for Unique Szechuan experience.
udhay kumar
pea dumplings were out of the world. the sichuan tofu gravy had too much sichuan in it and just numbed our tongues and we couldn't taste.. maybe we were the last ppl in the restaurant.. costly as well.
Bart Claeys
When waiting to pick up our food inside, we were welcomed by a gentleman without mask. I thought the State's directive was clear about everyone wearing a mask inside? Additionally, while I generally like the food, I don't understand why 50% of the ingredients needs to be inedible hot chilly peppers. Eating just one is enough to make your mouth burn. I've been to Lionhead many times before, and each time I am confronted with that. Am I ordering the wrong dish each time? Or does every dish come with these?
Ian Gorton
Great Sichuan food.

My enthusiasm for this place borders on unhealthy; it's simply amazing. Their grasp on authentic sczechuan cuisine is incredible, and they serve baiju, which is the best booze you've never had. Portion sizes are huge, prices are legit, and the service is some of the best in town. I have to pay a visit every time I'm in town since I moved. Do yourself a favor and GO.
Raven Kelly Smith
My (a Cap Hill long-time resident) favorite restraint in Seattle, a true hidden gem.
I've been savoring writing this review. My and my boyfriend have been going to Lionhead for years now. Every-time we leave raving about how excellent it is. We're full, lightly buzzed and have that post-amazing-food glow.
It's family-style Szechuan cooking, they call out the speciality of the numbing versus spicy peppers. The cocktails and main dishes rotate seasonally, the servers are knowledgeable and the atmosphere is cozy.
Just do yourself a favor and go, order a bunch of plates, share them all.
Maddy Berkman
Lionhead is my favorite restaurant in the city!! I go for all special occasions. They even helped accommodate a party of 17 for my bachelorette celebration! The food is incredible, service is always wonderful and I will keep coming back again and again!
Alan Newman
Cozy restaurant with stellar service and a diverse menu to please anyone's palate. It was our first visit. The server knew the menu well and made excellent recommendations based on what we told him out likes were. Good was fresh, served hot and tasted very good. A definite place to try; a keeper on our return to places.
Elizabeth Wicks
I had a great experience at Lionhead! The food was delicious and the service was great. We ordered the Dan Dan Noodles and Braised Beef Noodles. The braised beef noodles had a delicious subtle flavor and the meat was very tender, while the Dan Dan noodles were spicy and full of strong flavors. We overlooked the fact that the menu said the Dan Dan noodles were bathed in a "tongue-numbing sauce." They weren't kidding! Many of Lionhead's dishes use Sichuan peppercorn, a fragrant type of pepper that actually slightly numbs your tongue as you eat it. It was a fun and unexpected experience!
Also, another cool thing about Lionhead is that it has a no-tipping model - gratuity is already included in the prices. At first I thought that the food was expensive, but when you factor in the gratuity, Lionhead's prices are only a couple dollars above the norm.
Reade Whitwell
Who knew that you could make a meal of dumplings? But don't let that stop you from trying the other offerings on the menu! The place is very clean and cozy and the people are attentive and very friendly. Definitely worth a second visit.
Nile Klein
Still stellar!
Loved this spot pre-covid and lionhead is still holding it down for take out! Great vegetable dishes and mains for when you want to add a little spice an excitement to the day/week.
I think they're now offering cocktails to go for a steal!
Bjorn Hoffman
Incredible food an good atmosphere. Something about the peppers they use just hits different. Spicy, Tingly, flavorful!
Victor Hsiao
Loved everything here! Clean and delicious! Nice Sichuanese place that I'll definitely come visit again soon!
Alex Omar
Omg the mouthfeel is so different than anything I've experienced before. You really need to like/tolerate spicy food if you go here but you won't be disappointed. 4 stars because the food actually was not that tasty but that mouth feel tho...
Steven Kopelman
Really really tasty. We had delicious dumplings and 3 excellent entrees. Best chinese restaurant we've been to in a very long time. We'll be back!
Tyler
The food is really good, as long as you like spicy things. Only complaint would be that the music is a bit loud but i would recommend this place.
Sindhu Anand
People who love spicy food here this will be your favorite place.
Dont forget to make a reservation before you go
Daniel Milo
Great food , great service, great experience.
Beware- spicy! (Good spicy but you hav to like that)
Jess Gray
Great use of chillis and numbing. Recommend the Lajizi (marinated, deep-fried pieces of chicken stir-fried with Sichuan chilli bean paste, Sichuan peppers, garlic, and ginger) and Mapo dofu.
There are vegetarian and non-spicy, non-numbing options too.
Cocktails are also excellent.
Brian M. Demkowicz
Food is great and service is friendly, but the restaurant is too small and looks thrown together, as if it opened that afternoon for the first time. Mind you, the food is delicious. Make reservations ahead of time to avoid waiting, especially if you've more than for in your party.
Lu Zeng
Szechuan-PNW fusion that isn't obnoxious (and pretty tasty), and they have baijiu. The servers are experts on the menu, know how to explain it, and have great personality while doing so. I recommend this restaurant for anyone remotely adventurous.

This is a good place for company or family gatherings. Unique decoration! If you like spicy or sweet and sour foods make sure you check it out.

I am Malaysian and I miss the “wok hei” in Chinese food. This place delivered and I strongly recommend if you are looking for a good Chinese food.
Adam Herscher
Tasty Sichuan dishes and nice cocktails
Joshua Liu
Great Chinese food and baijiou tasting menu. Authentic taste and quality ingredients. It pains me to pay such prices for Chinese food, but if I ignore the ethnicity of the food the prices are in line with the atmosphere and location.
Christopher Dempewolf
Astro was great! Our first time there was new year's Eve, and he did a fantastic job of guiding through the menu and making everyone happy. And the food was all amazing
Jeff Carlson

Martin Sulewski
One of the best Sichuan meals I've had in Seattle. Excellent cocktails. Top notch service too.
Austin Siedentopf
My mouth was flavor blasted out of this dimension into some void where everything I used to love tastes bland by comparison. 10/10.
J Lee
Food was not very Chinese at all... Very very poor tea experience. Weird teapot where the water doesn't steep so you're just drinking hot leaf juice.
Kevin Brewer
Very good dishes. Lots of flavour and individuality. Not too spicy. Complex flavours.
Mike Alcazaren
The best Gung Pao chicken I've had in a long time!

Best Chinese food in Seattle. Very heavy on the funk and Sichuan pepper corns though, so those who don't like strong flavors beware.
Drew Beveridge
The best Chinese food I’ve ever had. Try the tofu and rice cakes. Great service and atmosphere too!
Tiger Wolf
Exceptional service here. I've been a few times. It's only slow during dinner rush occasionally, but that's to be expected from a restaurant on Cap Hill.
Food and drinks are fantastic!
Marc
Awesome place to eat healthy-supertasty chinese food. The manager is a wellbeing person :) thank you again for yesterday night. From a french globetrotter :D

Delicious!

Switched up the lamb in the cumin noodles to leg instead of belly and it turned from a 5 star dish and one of my favorites in the city to simply, a good dish. That being said, everything on their menu that I’ve tried is really delicious but i probably won’t be going back as much. Bring the belly back!
Jack Rack-Gomer
I spent six years in china, these guys are putting out some of the best dishes from all the best provinces. The quality and authenticity is top notch, and they put a slight spin that makes it unique. Incredible place 10/10 would recommend.
