I had a good time here. We had to show up to put our name down and then come back 30-60 min later (and we came on a Wednesday at 6 pm). Not traditional Malaysian food, but the flavors were overall very good. I’d come back again. It seems like it’s gotten way more popular over the years, so not sure it’s worth waiting 2 hours for.

I've never had malaysian food this great before. Everything was amazing but my favorites were definitely the wings and the hanger skirt steak. The fried rices were very unique as well, they have the crispy rice within in. The wait was 2 hours, but was definetly worth it. I recommend lining up early or it's going to be hard to get a seat.

Great Malaysian restaurant. The place is small, so the wait is long, but worth it. I recommend getting there right as it opens or going to another place for drinks while you wait. The food is affordable and so are the drinks. I highly recommend sharing plates so you can try a little of everything.

If you’ve never had or heard of Malaysian cuisine before, then you should be determined to give this place a try. Fair warning: it is difficult to get a table, the restaurant is small and incredibly popular. I would recommend getting here at least a half hour to an hour before they open and putting your name on the list early. You might still be looking at a 1-3hr wait depending on how busy it is. Regardless, the food is delicious and unique. I had the skirt steak, roti, and a coconut shake. The flavors are a mix of sour, sweet, and herbaceous. Pricey are about average, but a good spot for a weekend or weeknight date.

Affordable, unique, and delicious! THIS is my favorite restaurant in all of Seattle. Yes, the wait times are long and they don't take reservations but it is 100% worth the wait. I take all my friends here when they come to visit. The Net Bread and Nasi Goreng Char Siu are must gets! They also have cocktails that are fun and super tasty. Very limited parking in this area. If you go into the residential area along Bellevue or Melrose you'll probably have more luck.

Neighborhood gem, not a hole in the wall but still delicious food! Best to go before 6pm as this place gets packed or just make a reservation! There is seating near the door and bar then more seating as you walked down 5-6 steps of stairs. The tables are kind of close together. Everything was delicious. This place is a little heavy on the carb side but there is a salad here. Since this is cap hill, I parked nearby and walked. Some street parking in the area. Don't go here for a first date, it can get loud/hard to hear the person sitting across from you.

Really liked the coconut shake with a shot of kahlua. Highly recommend that drink. Overall I think this restaurant is worth trying once but the wait is probably not worth it multiple times. If you want to put your name down, go do something else and come back that might be worth it. But we showed up around 435pm on a Friday afternoon to line up and we got seated at around 5:20pm. So it was definitely a long wait in line. We were also trying to get seated with the first seating so that made the experience a lot more work than if we were to just casually pass by and wait. We liked the char siu fried rice a lot. The roti was cool but a lil weird and the fried chicken was unique but kinda difficult to pull apart and eat. Overall a good experience though.

Wanted to try this place since long time so finally visited it on Sunday afternoon at 3:30pm. No waiting during that time and plenty of seating was available . Entrance is a heavy wood door but the way to seating is really strange somehow it was not giving me a grand feeling . Chairs for seating were not very nice and comfortable , they were so small that you can't hang your jackets on back if your chair. Food was amazing we had roti jal , noodles in coconut milk , coconut ice cream and food was really tasty. Service was quick sometime it was bugging that server was coming in every 5 mins to check on you. Parking is very tough to find , yes it's Seattle so we had to park 2 lanes away and walk.

This is a very popular restaurant so you will have to get there early. Most people start to line up before they open. We arrived 10 minutes before they opened and the line was already around the block. Once they open though, the line goes quick. They seat the entire restaurant and then they take the names, party size and phone numbers of everyone else in the line. They then text you when you're table is ready. You have 10 minutes to arrive or respond via text. If you do not do either of these options, you for forfeit your time slot. Note, they do not take reservations. They do not seat parties greater than 6. & as of September 2022, they do not do take-out. We tasted the coconut shake, the kerabu timun nanas (cucumber, pineapple salad), the roti jala with dhal (net bread with lentils), the udang masak lemak nanas (shrimp curry), and the nasi goreng char siu (fried rice with BBQ pork). The coconut shake was rich and thick and had lots of coconut flavor. The kerabu timun nanas was super flavorful. The cucumber and pineapples were refreshing, while the peanuts were earthy and added crunch, and the fish sauce made the flavors that much more complex. The roti jala with dhal had a great texture. We enjoyed pulling the bread apart. The dhal had great flavor, and we can't wait to try the chicken curry option next time. The nasi goreng char siu was also amazing. The char siu was seasoned nicely and the rice had good texture-- it was fluffy, yet had bits of the chewy, crunchy bits from being cooked in a clay pot. The most disappointing part of the meal was the udang masak lemak nanas. The coconut flavor was nice, but after the other 3 dishes being so flavorful, we felt that this dish wasn't as complex. I wonder if we would have felt the same way if this dish had come out first.

When people start queuing up 30 mins before gates open, you know that you’re in for a treat. Kedai Makan opens at 5pm only for 4 days of the week to long lines of eagerly awaiting patrons and boy does it live up to the hype! You walk up to the counter to order from a reasonably limited menu, we had the Nasi Goreng Char Siu and Tofu Laksa Lemak. Both dishes were amazingly tasty and quite authentic. The flavours were balanced and the bbq char siu was soft and juicy. The ambience is cosy and mellow. They also have a bar serving cocktails with a Malaysian twist. Highly recommended for some amazing Malaysian food.

kedai makan is a top 5 restaurant for me in the US! my idea for malaysian food is generally pretty saucey (like thai), but kedai makan was complete opposite, yet still so much flavor! chicken wings are a must! honestly, can eat so many of them!!! start lining up 30 min -1 hr before they open (or go during late evening to test your luck on a weekday), otherwise, wait times could be hours!!! street parking only. can't wait to be back! shout out to Alysson, Leah, Caitlyn, and the rest of the staff for providing an amazing meal and experience!

Would rate kedai makan 3.5/5 stars. I really wanted to try this place out before they closed down. Overall, the food was good but just not sure if it was worth the hype. I waited in line from 10:30am to put my name down and got a table for 5pm. Their jala was delicious but the other vegetarian options were alright. The pudding with longan berries was pretty good!

The food and drinks were really good. My favorite are Bubur Hitam (dessert), Roti Jala (crispy and super delicious), and Laksa (the broth is super think and good). We arrived around 17:07 and there was no waiting time. Highly recommend!

I have heard of so many good things about this place, really wanted to love it. We ordered 4 dishes + naan out of their relatively small menu. The naan with the chicken curry was my favorite. It’s interesting and what earned this meal a 3 star. The rest dishes are mediocre at best. The fried chicken was quite tasteless and not very tender. The fried rice is flavorful but too oily and the dryness is the only impression the charsiu left me. The clam rice noodle soup actually has a good flavor out of all dishes we ordered. It could really use more soup in it, but still managed to taste smushy with so little soup. There’s another skirt steak dish that I ordered that clearly caters towards the general American taste and no comment on that. The wait was 1 hour, we arrived 30 mins after they opened. I do not have problem waiting for good food. But this one is not worth the wait. I rate restaurant only by the food quality (3 stars in this case). But service is worth mentioning in a review. When we got a very dirty bowl (all yellow scabs at the bottom) and asked for a replacement. The waitress just used some water to “attempt” to clean it and just brought back the same dirty bowl nothing improved. The rest 3 bowls are very clean. They also said that they would bring the receipt to our table. But they didn’t do that until we had to ask again towards later part of the meal. Seattle has many southeast/south Asian restaurants, Kedai Makan unfortunately is very much in that lower tier with whatever menu they presented.

I can’t believe I’m leaving a review so late for what is my favorite spot in Seattle. Such good food I’m Dw basted it’s shutting down. I never knew Malaysian food was so good. The roti jaal and the nase goerang was so amazing and so was the coconut shake and clams! I would wait hours for this place.

One of the best spots for Malaysian food in Seattle, this place is a worth visit. The Cucumber salad, the soup and jali were so full of flavors. The only sad part is that the restaurant has long waiting lines and they don’t take online booking.

This was one of the best meals that I've ever eaten. The roti jala was mind blowing. It's a cute space (small and a bit awkward though) and they're doing great after launch. I can't wait to go back. I hope they continue accepting reservations.

An old name in the Seattle area for Malaysian food in a new location. Still in the soft opening when I went in February 2023, but disappointed by the food overall. My friends and I all shared many dishes, but the only one that I really liked was the roti babi. Food I ordered the chili pan mee and the noodles were good. Nice, thin, textured wheat & egg noodles that tasted good but were so sticky that it was difficult to mix in all the other things in the bowl. Chili served in a side plate so you can adjust spiciness to your own level. My friends ordered the laksa, fried rice, and chicken wings. Laksa was a little bland and my friend wished it came with more soup. The shrimp was good though. The fried rice portions were huge and plenty of vegetables on the side. Fried chicken was good as well. Atmosphere The new location is huge since there is a lower level, and then another kind of closed off area in the back. The decorations are cute with the lights and noise level was not too bad. It’s a tight fit in there though between tables. Pricing Average prices in Cap Hill the amount of food you get and type of food you get. Service Service was good despite them being completely full even past closing time. Server was nice and gave us options on how to split our bill. Water is self service. Other It’s all street parking that you have to pay for, if you can find any. Also beware the stairs when you are walking to the entrance!

Amazing. Malaysian food that tastes so authentic and perfect with every flavor and spice in harmony. We got the roti jala, veggie curry, and a mussel special and recommend all. The wait is 100% worth it (we waited 2 hours after getting there at 6:30 on a Thursday).

I think it’s important to acknowledge there’s A LOT of hype around this restaurant. For context, the original closed and there are new owners at a new location. If you are looking to come here because it was highly recommended, temper your expectations because it’s pretty so so. What I think is better about this restaurant than the original is the location and the reservation system. That said, we ordered two appetizers and two different meals, so I feel like we got a pretty good spread. Agnostic of any recommendations, I really wasn’t surprised at all. I ordered the chili pan mee noodles as the main and thought it was very average. With every bite I took, I couldn’t help but say, man this is pretty average. There’s no flavor profile anywhere in the dish. Moreover, I left feeling pretty hungry. My wife ordered the nasi goreng, and we both thought that was pretty good, especially for what fried rice typically is. As for the quantity, pretty light for me. I thought the service wasn’t the best… but I’ll add that they are new and still learning so that’s totally okay and to be expected. But, we had ordered an appetizer and the gentleman that brought it to us wasn’t sure if we were the right table, so he then asked us, to which we responded and asked what the dish was, and he didn’t know what he brought us. To that end, it’s okay if you forget which table gets the appetizer but the menu isn’t a big one and I feel like you need to study that as a critical path of training before being on the floor. At the end, we were kindly nudged out in a subtle way of implying we needed to leave, so this isn’t a restaurant where you can break bread and laugh all night with friends. All things considered, I’d say the food wasn’t bad. Would I recommend it? Honestly, I wouldn’t. I think there are so many excellent restaurants in the area that’ll present half the headache. I’m glad we got to try it. I imagine with time, the food will get better as the cook learns the dishes, but i think it’ll be a while before we come back.

Recommend Kedai Makan! They move to a larger place where has more seats. Make a reservation or go there as early as possible. The food are great! I recommend Roti Jala, Laksa Lemak, and Bubur hitam. Roti Jala is special and very tasty! It serves with dhal curry, tastes really nice 👍 Laksa is my favorite! It’s authentic flavor, and well seasoned. Bubur hitam is worth to try. Best Bubur in Seattle! Rasuk Babi is not bad, but it’s too spicy for me. Cocktails are worth to try. I love jungle bird!

Have been planning to visit this place for a long time and we finally did. Went on a Sunday at around 3 30PM. Not as crowded as I read in the reviews. We could find parking as well without much trouble. The items looked quite interesting and we ordered quite a few items on the menu 😀 We expected Roti Jala with gravy but it came with Dal and ghee which tasted great as well. I just LOVED chili ginger Sambhal and Mee Sambhal. Just the right amount of spice and great flavors. Enjoyed the fried chicken, roti babi, Keropok udong, turmeric shrimp fried rice, turmeric egg fried rice with fried tofu, Laksa with fried tofu. Great food overall.

One of the best restaurants in Seattle! This place was recommended to us by multiple Seattle locals but we had a hard time getting a spot since there’s always lines out the door! We made finally made it and honestly, have never had a better dining experience! The food is incredible - the dhal and roti jala are a must try, as is the cucumber salad and masi goreng. We loved the Singapore slammer and turmeric raider. Service is always fast and polite, and food is priced very reasonably. The ambience is tastefully done. We can’t wait to go back! MUST VISIT if you’re in Seattle!

Kedai Makan closed, but then reopened under new owners at a new location! 1449 E Pine St We went to their first night of their soft opening last night, they will be open again tonight. Unclear when they’ll be officially open. It was amazing!! The menu was very similar to the old one, except this time I thought the vegetarian/vegan options were actually marked more clearly. I think the dessert section might be marked wrong — it says the coconut ice cream and rice pudding are only “vegetarian,” but we asked and were told they’re actually vegan, so they might need to still update that. The inside is so pretty and spacious. We got the cucumber pineapple salad with peanuts made vegan, very tasty and fresh. I wish the flavor were a little bit stronger, like spicier or saltier but it was still good. My friend got the daal with roti since it’s not vegan, he said it was tasty but the daal may have been slightly different. For mains I got the nasi goreng (fried rice) made vegan without the egg. You can add tofu but I did not. It took a little while to come out — they just bring food to your table as it’s ready and basically everything is shareable. But it was worth it! Piping hot and so flavorful. My friend got the chili pan mee and enjoyed it. For dessert we got the rice pudding with coconut ice cream added. They came in separate bowls so it was a bit hard to actually eat them together… but it was good! Might not get it every time but fun to try. We miss the boozy coconut shake but it’s on the menu as “coming soon!” So keep an eye out for that. (You also don’t have to add rum.) So excited that Kedai makan lives on!!

There’s limited Malaysian dining concepts in the PNW, let alone doing it well. Kedai Makan was a delightful surprise and all dishes were delicious (ordered the Roti Jalak, Duck Soup, and Nasi Goreng Cha Sui)!

Haven't been back to Kedai Malian since before they moved to the new location. So happy they expanded their space to make dining experience more enjoyable. The food speaks for itself (it's amazing!), so having a more spacious place to sit and enjoy all the scrumptious dishes makes it a much more exciting experience.Our group enjoyed all the dishes we ordered, starting with the cucumber and pineapple salad - so refreshing and unique, a great pairing to heaving dishes. The roti with dahl was a nice starter. Dahl a rad too salty, but went well with the net roti. A fun appetizer! The ribs stole the show (so tender and flavorful!). However, my favorite was the fried chicken - absolutely impeccable! Crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside, with a nice spicy chili crunch added on top. A must try! The rice was flavorful and had a nice mix of goodies. All the dishes came together beautifully, and I can't wait to go back for more!

Amazing place and amazing food. Luckily the wait wasn’t much when we got there. I highly recommend the Roti Jala. The food was delicious and highly recommend checking this place out in Seattle. It’s a little hard find parking near the place. Something to keep in mind when you drive here.

'You must try Kedai Makan' were the exact words of my husband who has stayed in Seattle for sometime and tried this place before. So we tried to squeeze in this place in our tight scheduled trip. We reached Kedai Makan around 7:30pm and they were full and not accepting new reservations nor togo orders. We told the hostess that it was our last day in Seattle and we were visiting from CA and we had to try this place. She was kind enough to at least note our name down and let us know in case of any cancellations. Fast forward to around an hour later, we got a table. Little did I know that I would be so thankful to have gotten that spot . My husband already knew what we were going try so without further ado, we just placed an order for turmeric Raider, Roti Chicken curry, side of dhal and Nasi Goreng Kedai. Turmeric Raider was refreshing. Had a strong turmeric flavor and less of orange taste but it tasted well. Wont say it's a must try though. Whereas the rest, highly recommend it to try. I loved the texture and looks of the jala roti. So intricate and soft. The chicken curry was perfect. Soft chicken pieces with a very flavorful curry. Dhal had a great texture and taste too. A little tadka of ghee and cumin seeds, made it smell so good. Loved each bite of it. Nasi Goreng Kedai was another enticing dish on their menu. Loaded with green veggies and sautéed tofu. Relished every spoon of it. Going back again for sure on my next trip!!

Tried the new Kedai Mekan today and was glad they kept this concept alive. Dishes were pretty close to the original, but there were subtle differences in execution. For example, the net bread roti was crispier (which I didn't mind), daal was pretty similar, and the nasi goreng had less of those crispy shallots (heavier on shallots please) and slightly sweeter taste. Space was way larger and nice you can make a reservation. I would encourage them to continue refining the execution and this can be great! Also agreed with another reviewer who mentioned the old Kedai had this really awesome vibe (which I imagine came from the passion from the owners) that made it feel special. I hope this new Kedai can find its own spark soon too!

I came to eat at their new location for the first time and was not disappointed. Their new space is bigger and super cute! The only sad part was that they didn't have the roti jala with the chicken curry (my old fave) but at least they still had the version with the lentils. It was just as good as I remembered it being, aka SO GOOD, I can never get enough of the net bread. I also had their burger for the first time and let me just say WOW. It was so good, I loved the egg wrap and the slaw really made it. The drinks were strong and fruity and the fried rice was yum too! The service was so fast, I was actually in and out in 45min!

I think the food here is great. As for someone stayed in Singapore for half year and visited Malaysia several times, I believe the food is really quite Malaysian and delicious. However, you cannot make a reservation and need to wait on lines for seats, which I think might not completely worth it. The service is not great in my opinion. You need to order your dishes at the moment when you enter the restaurant, and you need to go to the bar and bring your credit card for ordering cocktails afterward. Staffs are OK but not friendly though. Overall, if you have time to wait and want to try traditional Malaysian cuisine, you can give it a try.

Their togo boxes and utensils are on the side so people can pack leftovers easily and payment before seating. I like this style because it's efficient. I don't have to wait for the waitress to leave after I finish eating. Below is the Lamb Rotti and fried chicken dish. Very generous portions, full of flavors in each dish. This is the first malaysian restaurant I have been to and I really enjoyed it.

Being a Houstonian where we have several great Asian restaurants, we wanted to try this popular Malaysian place while visiting Seattle. This place is absolutely awesome! We ordered the lamb murtabak, roti Jala with chicken curry and lala mee Hoon clay pot which was enough to feed 2 people. Pros: simple menu, great foods, reasonable prices Cons: long wait time, hard to find parking, very small restaurant, very busy Come here as early as you can!

Everything here is pretty good. Service is friendly and fast. We waited two hours to get a table on a Wednesday evening, so plan accordingly. You have to order up front, so know what you’re going to order before your spot is ready. Get the wings and the coconut shake. Best things on the menu by far. The steak is good but just steak. We’re not here for steak. Skip that.

Be prepared for a wait! We put our name down and got a drink around the corner. They ask you to be prepared to order once your table is ready, which is great because food and drinks come out FAST. Food was all delicious. My favorites were the Kerabu timun nanas (cucumber + pineapple salad), Roti jala (net bread) with dhal, beef and tofu satays, and fried rice! I also recommend the pickled mustard greens as a nice bite between dishes! I probably wouldn’t order the Lamb murtabak again. It was quite heavy and didn’t pack as much flavor as the other dishes we ordered.

After having thought of types of fried rice I ate before there was one that I haven't had yet and that is Malaysian style fried rice, have you seen the Uncle Roger youtube video with Gordon Ramsey cooking fried rice that Jamie Oliver screwed up? Well the fried rice in menu is close to the one on the video so and so I ended up here; It was delicious, though there are plenty more items in the menu I didn't look over, I'll be back to check it out. This tiny restaurant building has that old vibe but no smell or so and you can tell with the furnitures around(the windows/ceilings design is easiest cue), also they have 9 tables total with a bar next to the kitchen where you can order drinks. The wait can get long at busy times.

If you are looking for Malaysian cuisine, this is a good place to try one in Capitol Hill. Apparently they don’t do delivery for some reason. Parking is hard to find - it is Capitol Hill after all, so you might want to ride share or walk if you can. Servers were polite but we felt rushed as there was a line outside. It’s a popular place apparently.

2.5 stars Made a reservation online. Service was quick and friendly, but the food is not great. The food came out REALLY quick, suspiciously quick. Like within a couple minutes of ordering. I could tell the noodles (pan mee) were sitting for awhile. Also ordered the roti and ribs, both were okay and could probably use more salt. Overall, pretty disappointed someone would buy Kedai and serve mediocre food. Hopefully they learn to develop flavors and perfect the recipes.

Cannot describe how amazingly good the food is, and a really fun vibe. Awesome intimate atmosphere for date night, we revelled in the authentic atmosphere and mind-blowing flavors. Don’t miss the Roti Jala (net bread) - I’ve never had anything like it before. The Nasi Goreng Kedai (fried rice with tofu, topped with a fried egg) was awesome and my husband gushed over his Daging Bakar (hanger steak) which was perfectly cooked and sooo delicious. One of the owners warmly greets you at the door, and the photos are from their own travels - how legit is that?! Also, they have a great bartender because the drinks were next-level too. The Singapore slammer is a great cocktail, not too sweet, and the coconut shake was perfection. A lot of reviews mention the wait - it’s worth it! Fantastic spot, will be back!

We loved the original Kedai Makan and decided to try Kedai 2.0 and I have to say we were utterly disappointed. The dishes didn’t taste the same and portions got smaller. The Nasingoreng portion was pitiful and you had to add pork and fried egg separately to it where the original dish came with it. The taste was not good at all. The cucumber pineapple salad was bland and in dire need of some salt or citrus. Roti Babi had an off putting smell and flavor so we didn’t even eat it. The wings and Roti Jala were good. The ribs were tasty but they were very cold by the time they got to our table. Cocktails were fine. It was very cold in the corner we sat, very uncomfortable. The server knew nothing about the liquor selection or anything except for what was on the menu. So it was frustrating to even order a bourbon as she didn’t know what they carried. Food was average and more expensive. Nothing like the original Kedai, will not return..

Ownership changed hands and the spark is gone. The food is good don’t get me wrong, but Kedai Makan before the move used to be a nigh once in a lifetime meal experience. Gone are the exotic delicacies and in are their place are dishes, that while perfectly serviceable, I could find at a myriad of other places. Now it’s just another Asian spot in Seattle.

Great place for dinner but definitely busy. Be sure to get there early to put your name down. We had around a 30 minute wait for our table on a weekday night. Be sure to get the chicken wings, they are some of the best I have ever had. We also got the Nasi Gurung and Roti Jala which were both decent. Food came out quick too. All in all great place for dinner, just be ready for a wait.

The easiest five stars I've ever given to a restaurant, so far. Kedai Makan does so many things right it's hard to list them all. However, the most important three - food quality, quantity and service - are strongly present. Yes, you will likely have to wait a minute or thirty to have a seat, especially if you arrive in the prime time, but it will be worth the wait. We were a party of six and have ordered a mix of everything. Food just kept coming and we kept getting surprised by the awesome taste of it all. At the end of the evening, the vote was unanimous - clear 5 stars.

A beautiful place. I was impressed with the service of delivering you to the restaurant, milo. Free parking on the territory of Petropavlovsk, if you go to a restaurant. There is something to pay for. The restaurant is in a great location with stunning views. As a lover of Tom Yama, I can say unequivocally, he is not worth his money 890 rubles., it is better to take something else, since the portion is small, the serving is nothing special, the taste is worthy! Try something else better, and Tom yam has places where they cook better! It's not specialized. When there are a lot of people, the dishes clearly do not have time to clean up in a timely manner

Everything we came to love about the original Kedai Makan is unfortunately non-existent with this new location. It’s just another restaurant in Capitol Hill. The rich and spiced flavors are replaced with being overly salty and oily. The dishes have been scaled down, priced up, and not many protein options anymore. It’s not bad, it’s just no longer flavorful nor special anymore. I really miss the original Kedai Makan, it was my favorite restaurant, but this is no longer it.

Delicious! We arrived just before it opened, and were thankful for it; it filled up quickly. The staff were very quick and friendly, the menu is excellent (plenty of selections, both meat & veggie... drinks alcoholic and N-A), and the food was incredible. We ate family-style, and I'd recommend that because the portions are large and you'll want to try many dishes. The coconut shake was very popular!

Friends and I tried several times to eat at Kedai Makan and we were successful after three tries. At 4:15pm on a weekday, we arrived to no lines and at 4:45-50, an employee came out with stools for the people in line. With a group of 6, we were seated promptly and given the menu. We enjoyed the self serve water and milk tea (condensed milk with star anise, and other spices). We tried almost every dish on the menu and would recommend trying whichever dish that appeals to you but did find the frog legs and salad from the starter, the ribs and fried chicken to be quite tasty and unique. Prices are reasonable and the service excellent.

Please cut down on the sugar in everything! The Laksa was so sweet it hid all the other flavors. No tomato chunks in the dal please. The fried chicken was on point and delicious. Ok so five stars because I was an OG Kedai fan and I’m so happy this new team is bringing back these amazing recipes! It’s a great start, and I’m sure the dishes will continue to get better as they move past the soft opening. If y’all are reading reviews: please reduce the added sugar in all of the dishes!!!! I had the dal net bread (net bread is spot on, dal pretty close). I was surprised by how sweet it was though. Please take out the tomato chunks, add a bit more ghee, and don’t forget the curry leaves! I had the laksa too, which had a lot of flavor, but please sub in some good light fried tofu instead of that super hard dense stuff. Keep up the amazing work and overall, thank you a million times over for keeping the Kedai spirit alive!

After pining for the Malaysian food from Kedai Makan, I’m really happy I finally went. I ordered online and picked up the order around dinnertime on a Saturday night. I ordered the roti jala with chicken curry, the nasi goreng belacan, and the ayam goreng masala and was pleased with everything I got. The roti jala is something I hadn’t had before and I was really enamored with the delicateness of the roti – the flavor was subtle and worked well with the chicken curry. The nasi goreng was excellent as well and I liked their version of the dish. Finally, the ayam goreng was excellent and delicious. The chicken was still crispy after having taken it home and the rice and curry that came along with it did a nice job rounding out the dish. I wish there more Malaysian restaurants in the area, but I’m happy to continue returning to Kedai Makan in the meantime.

I’ve heard so many wonderful things about this place so I was afraid I’d be disappointed because of the expectations I had. This place did NOT disappoint! Each dish was filled with bold flavors. Did I also mention that the prices are incredibly reasonable?! I’d pay 10x the price for the quality meal I had. Caveat - because this place is incredible, we got to the location at 5:15 pm to put our name down and didn’t get seated till about 7:30 pm. The addition of a "Kedai Burger" to the menu was all the proof I needed that the new ownership has missed the mark on what made Kedai so great. Heard Kedai Makan was closing so had to go visit. We heard day-to-day updates from friends regarding the new waitlist system (since the restaurant is walk-in only). The latest news we had was that the waitlist started at 3:30 PM and people were lining up by 3 PM. So we decided to start waiting in line at 215 PM. We were already around the corner haha. Waitlist opened at 230ish. Waitlist closed/full at 3pm. We were quoted between 7-8 pm. Actually got the text that the table was ready at 730pm.

WOOOOOOOOOOWWWW! I think this might be one of my all time favorite restaurants. The flavors were absolutely AMAZING!!! Almost every single dish we ate was just spectacular! Returning to Seattle this upcoming May, and this is going to be our first stop! And second. And third. *Update: It's May, and as I mentioned before, this was our first stop. The food was as tasty (if not more so), as the last time. One more visit before we leave. Trust me, you want to eat here. I love that the new space has more seating and reservations so you don’t have to wait in line 30 min before opening just to hope to get a spot without waiting hours. Unfortunately I found the execution of the dishes to be less exciting. The chili pan me wasn’t particularly flavorful and the roti jala bread was way crispier which made it harder to peel and harder to dip with the dhaal that also was oddly much more oily (or at least I observed a puddle of oil at the top of my serving.

In contrast to other reviewers, I didn't enjoy Kedai Makan's food as much as I expected to enjoy it. I arrived with my group of 3 about 30 min before opening while there were about 8-10 others in front of us. As it neared opening time 5pm (sat night), the line began to build and eventually wrapped around the corner of the building. As we got seated, we were greeted kindly by the front of house and servers, the proceeded to order the Roti Jala, Chili Pan Mee, and the Ayam Goreng Ala Diablo. . . The unique Roti was nice and soft along with the flavorful lamb curry. Our second dish, the Ayam Goreng (fried chicken) was fried perfectly, but was not "really spicy" if at all (as the server warned us when serving the dish). The Chili Pan Mee, a mixed noodle dish with meat and other toppings was just fine but didn't really impress. With a high asking price and just decent food (but great service!), Kedai Makan is awesome if you're trying to eat something new and unique, but don't get your expectations too high as the food appeals only to some people.

I'm surprised I didn't find this place sooner. There is some serious hype about this place and somehow went right under my radar. The wait time was upwards of 2 hours at 7:30pm on a Thursday night, which is a bit of a downer - however they let you check in at the door and they let you check your status in line so you can go off somewhere else for a drink while you wait. Service was very friendly through and through, we felt very welcomed. Even one of the owners was walking around working on tables. Thank you! Food was delicious. We had the frog legs, lamb rice dish, and duck noodles - all were a hit. They recommended 2 entrees for 2 people (or 1 entree + 2 sides) - we didn't heed their advice and got 2 entrees + 1 side and we couldn't finish, so I'd definitely stick to two entrees. Flavor profile seemed pretty authentic (I haven't been to Malaysia personally). Lots of unique flavors to each dish. Only feedback I would give is perhaps accepting reservations, and tune down the salt on the dishes just a smidge - but I can live with these even if you don't change them. Thanks for the great dinner! We'll be back.

I was very surprised to find this hidden gem in Seattle. Few years ago it was a take out place but now they have a very small crammed seating area. Come before they open at 5 pm or you could wait hours to get a table. I tried the roti jala and dhal, nasi goreng, fried chicken, laksa and coconut shake. Everything was very delicious and we brought home some left overs!

One of the better restaurants that I’ve been to in Seattle. The food was absolutely amazing and the waitstaff was very accommodating. We waited about 1.5 hours but it was well worth it. The most amazed dish is the fried spicy frog legs. Must order it. It doesn't taste any weird at all you you have never tried frog legs before. The frog legs taste like tender and juicy check, can imagine it like chicken wings with more meat. And the fried coat is crispy and spicy, not very hot. And the watermelon with chili spice is a unique try, it turned out taste great combine the watermelon with the spice. The bubur hitam (black rice pudding) is also worth to try. Warning!! I got there at Friday 7pm. When I left my name, the counter told me there had been 31 parties before us, we need to wait for 2.5 hours. It turned out we did exactly wait for 2.5 horus to be seated.

The food at Kedai Makan brings me right back to eating food at Mamak stalls in Kuala Lumpur. The food is as authentic as you can get, but with a wonderful PNW spin on it. The flavors in the Chili Pan Mee and Nasi Goreng Kambing are full and complex that I feel like I need to bring more friends so I can order the non-staple menu items. I cannot praise the chefs and wait staff enough for providing a wonderful experience — and if you have no idea what to get, the wait staff are perfect at suggesting the popular menu items or other foods that are yummylicious and to fit your hearts desire. I always look forward to returning to eat more yummy Malaysian food. Majulah Makan!

This unassuming, lively Malaysian eatery is an excellent spot for a late dinner; after 9 pm you have a decent chance to get a spot without waiting in line. The atmosphere in Kedai Makai is cosy, the food is not expensive and rich in flavour. The spice dishes are indeed spicy (hint: try the frog legs, they are fantastic!). It's hard to find anything on the menu that would fall into a "healthy" category, but it's not really expected from a place like that. Overall, nothing mind-blowing, however you'll get some great experience if coming with the right expectations.

If there's one place to try our authentic Malay cuisine outside of Malaysia. this would be it. I came here with a group of 5 after hearing rave reviews about this place. The wait was close to 2 hours but we didn't regret a bit. We tried a variety of traditional Malay dishes like nasi lemak, roti jala, mixed dry noodles, and their signature frog legs. Starting with the frog legs, crispy on the outside and very tender and flavorful on the inside. Make sure to get a big scoop of the peanut chili's, a bit on the spicy side but extremely addictive. The roti with both dal and lamb curry were delicious. Their roti taste almost like crepe without dipping in the sauces. Lastly, I also highly recommend the duck noodles. I really love the sweet duck sauce mixes with the firm noodles. It was one of my favorite dishes.

I think I got the wrong things. The kerabu was okay...it had it's highs and lows. When you were able to get pineapple, basil, and the rest of the dish at the same time it was a flavor explosion...when it was just the cucumber it was a bit flavorless. The flank steak was also okay...the greens were awesome but the meat was just missing flavor. I'd go back again to try something else. I would have preferred if the bartender was a little more helpful is giving recommendations. He didn't seem interested in offering that kind of help, but he made a good Old Fashioned.

If you go to Seattle, definitely should go to Kedai Makan to try their awesome food. Thing you MUST try is the Frog Legs. Super super good with their house spicy sauce!!! You can find the taste of Malaysia through their decoration inside the restaurant. Wait time is about 30-45 mins during dinner time but trust me, it worth every penny!! Ridiculously long waits (often up to 2.5 hours) so make sure you plan for it. You will need to check in in person and hang out somewhere nearby until they let you know your table is ready. That said, it is definitely worth the wait. Fantastic preparations - lots of unique dished. You'll enjoy if you like spicy food. Great atmosphere and service as well.

I remember finding out about this place a couple years back and instantly knew that I had to eat here. I learned the hard way that they open up pretty late and a line usually forms half an hour to an hour before opening. It took awhile for me to find the proper time to make it out here but definitely was worth my time. I will say that after eating here it seemed to be a bit overhyped. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and it was new to me as I never truly had Malaysian cuisine, but it was a bit too salty for my palate. I got the roti jala, the clay pot tau yew bak, and the nasi goreng kambing. My favorite of these three was the roti jala because the curry was delicious. Also, I loved the unique texture and appearance of the roti. The clay pot tau yew bak was good but it resembled a childhood dish I grew up eating so I felt biased here. The nasi goreng kambing was probably my least favorite because I totally overlooked the ingredients and I am actually not too fond of lamb so I don't think I should have a say in this dish. The claypot and the nasi goreng were definitely the saltiest of the dishes I got. Please do not let this review discourage you from trying these dishes.

Arrived 15 minutes early on a Sunday and there was already a line. Although I was seated in the first group, the service was very slow. It took 30 minutes after ordering to get the first dish. A bit fancy and pricey for Malaysian food so I had my doubts but the food is quite delicious. I tried the chilli pan mee & ayam goreng (fried chicken) banana leaf rice. The fried chilli flakes with the pan mee packed a punch and the condiments all went well with the al dente noodles. The fried chicken was ok but the fragrance of banana leaf in the rice and the huge assortment of pickles and curries made me really happy. I had an enjoyable meal and I'll be back to this restaurant.

They have good quality and tasting food (for an Asian inspired restaurant), but it's still not totally authentic Malaysian food, of course. Their menu is full of mostly novelty items and no traditional dishes like char kway teow, satay, rendang, roti canai, and bak kut teh (maybe I missed it when they had it on their menu), which they can get away with since they're the only Malaysian restaurant in Seattle. At least they have fried chicken and curry. The roti jala with lamb curry was good, especially since I usually don't like lamb, but the bread itself was too thin, so I'd wish there was more.

Food: we had high expectations for the food but it still exceeds our expectations. We ordered Lamb Murtabak, Nasi Gorenf Kedai (fried rice with tofu) and Bubur Hiram (black rice pudding). Our favorite is the lamb. It has the right about if spice while still a strong flavor of the lamb itself. The fried rice is very special and it doesn’t taste like the traditional fried rice I had in Chinese restaurant or made by myself. It has a more sticky texture but still crispy. The flavor is nice and strong. The only thing I don’t like is the fried rice is a bit too salty to my liking. Wait: we knew it would be a long wait on a Friday night so we had the expectations. We arrived at 5:15pm and there was a long line to just put your name down. I guess it is because the restaurant just opened at 5pm and it still takes time to accommodate the customers before they can take care of the waiting line. We were able to put our name and number down at 5:30 and the line is almost gone. We were told the wait was one to 1.5 hour which is quite accurate. We went to a bar nearby while waiting. So my suggestion would be don’t come right at its opening time, otherwise you might also need to wait in line to just put your name down.

Love this place! It's always a long wait to get a table unless you get a bar seat but it's definitely worth it. My favorites are the peanuts and roti jala with dhaal. Don't forget to try their black rice pudding with coconut ice cream for dessert! I was disappointed in their curry (DAGING MASAK LEMAK CILI PADI) but the nasi lemak with Ayam goreng (fried chicken) is pretty good.

I like kedai makan a lot. However, a little bit disappointed on my recent visit. The fried chicken was completely raw inside so they gave me new one and it was still raw. The wait though was long if you get there by 7. We had to wait for 2.5 hrs. Make sure to get there early right when they are open to get seated soon.

5 stars for the food. 1 star reduced for the long wait times and slow service. Kedai Makan is a popular restaurant and rightfully so! The food here is delicious. My favorites are: 1. Roti Jala with dhal. You can choose between Lamb curry or dhal (yellow lentils). Super soft roti pairs so well with the dhal. I haven’t ever tried the lamb curry but I bet it’s good! 2. Nasi Goreng Kambing: Malaysian style lamb fried rice that has fried onions and green beans and topped with a runny egg. Burppppp This restaurant is popular on all days. Expect long wait times even on a weekday. You get free hot milk tea while you wait; so that’s an incentive. It’s also insanely difficult to find parking around this place, so plan to walk a bit.

This place was amazing and love every minute of it. We didn't make a reservation and was told it was going to be an hour for two people and they got us in within twenty minutes due to cancelation. The food was probably the best food ever. So full of different flavors and different textures. We got the frog legs, duck leg noodles and the lamb fried rice and we only spent $55 including a ten dollar tip. If I lived near this place, I would be a regular. The service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere was lively and fun. Definitely will recommend this place to anyone that is going to be in the city and wants something different and delicious.

A gem of a restaurant. Haven't had Malaysian food in a long time & this place definitely hit the spot. We started with the Roti Jala with Dahl Curry. The bread looked like a weaved cloth which you dip into the curry & was delicious! Then we had the Nasi Goreng Kedai (fried rice with tofu) & the Chili Pan Mee (homemade handcut wheat noodles). Both dishes contained other tasty ingredients and packed a whole lot of flavor. And the service was great. This was the first day of phase 2 in Seattle & the first time we had dined inside a restaurant since the stay at home order and this experience made it worth the wait.

Good food, good service, good atmosphere. I liked everything here, except for the wait. Walk-ins only and a table for 2 was a 75 minute wait on a Sunday evening in January. They have a text system so we walked around the neighborhood to kill time, not bad. So it was a good place and really worth trying, but not sure I would spend the time to repeat.

Well. I got to Kedai Makan at 5:02pm. They open for evening service at 5pm. The restraunt was already full. We were told we had to wait an hour. We were okay with that, and congregated outside in the waiting area. The smells coming out of the restraunt were amazing and kept us interested. When we got in we shared a table with another group, which would normally bother me, but there was enough room to seperate us. I loved that there were a lot of #vegetarian options. The food was delicious. We ordered different items, the mushroom noodle dish, the blackened tofu, and the fried rice tofu with egg. We tried each other's dishes and they were all delicious. We didn't like that the food came at different times because we just waited for the other plates to eat. Luckily the food wasn't cold. It was worth the wait. So illustrious flavoured. Magic. The servers are SO SWEET. As we left we heard them telling customers it would be a 3 hour wait. I hope they get a bigger restraunt with more staff. They are so popular that they would still get a lot of buisness.

Absolutely Fabulous! No reservations. Gotta wait awhile. Leave your number for text and head around to corner to Hula Hula for tiki bar cool drinks. Then head back for the best meal you’ll have in Seattle. Eat at the bar. Great cocktails. Unusual infused cocktails with local herbs. Very very good. Had the Net Bread with lentil curry. Loved it. Then tried the chicken wings which were the best we’ve ever had. Finished with beef bbq dish. Just a great place with amazing food.

Update: the inconvenience of ordering via Kedai has turned me off completely and I most likely won’t be back. 1.) they have turned off their online ordering system. So after a huge trek up to Capital Hill for an hour wait for food, you will face a sign that says “NO TAKE OUT”. 2.) they are no longer accepting take out orders, which means you can only dine in. Which isn’t a problem, but… 3.) the wait for dine- in is often 2-3 hours at LEAST. This is ridiculous. For people coming out of town, this is simply a waste of time. I see people sitting down in front of the restaurants all the time. In the heat or in the rain, it is simply not worth it. 4.) you can’t make reservations ahead of time. 5.) they don’t have a phone number. You can’t call to inquire about wait times or if they will open take-out or how long things might take. You literally have to make the journey up to Kedai to ask them a question. Love the one dish here, but the inconvenience isn’t worth it. ——————————————————- Being a Malaysian and having the privilege of having home-made Malaysian dishes by my amazing mom everytime I go home, I have quite the snobby tastebuds. It's a curse to be able to sniff out if a dish is up to par with my judgment of relative Malaysian authenticity... Be that as it may, Kedai Makan has surpassed all my expectations! While it puts a twist on "authentic" Malaysian dishes, the dishes they offer are pretty damn good! I stopped by here during COVID to an abbreviated menu on their storefront. You place an order at the window and wait ~15-20 mins for your to-go food. What we got - - Fried Chicken: holy macaroni, this is DAMN good; best tasting right when you get the to-go bag, piping hot. Super crunchy, lots of herbs, and the sauces were to die for! Can't recommend this enough. I have eaten a lot of fried chicken and this tops the list. The rice portion was more than adequate, too. And no worries, there is a generous helping of cucumber salad to fulfill your vegetarian needs. - Coconut Black Pudding Dessert: the longan fruits made the whole dessert. Coconut scoop could have been more for the ratio of black pudding. Would come back again. Dishes were pretty pricey though - ranging in the $15 leagues per dish. But you can't find this type of fried chicken anywhere else, so just take my $.

Get there early or sign up for the wait list!!!! I stopped by around 7 on a Saturday and the wait was 3 hours. Worth the wait though. Ordered the shrimp chips, roti Jala, beef masala and nasi goreng. Food was delicious. The beef masala and shrimp chips were my favorites. The restaurant smells amazing inside too! Staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

OMG the hype is real! We got to the restaurant on a Sunday 20 min before it opened. There were two people already in line. By the time the place opened, people filled up the tables immediately! We tried the net bread with dhal (interesting, eggy, great), cucumber pineapple salad (crispy fish toppings with peanuts and fish sauce, my favorite of all!), Mushroom noodles (broth on the side, comes with chili sauce, noodles we're tender and delicious), banana fried rice (an eclectic mix of rice, eggplant curry, okra stuffed with spices, fermented cucumbers, sambhar). Everything tasted amazingly delicious! Malaysian cuisine is a melting pot of almost all South Asian and East Asian cuisines. This place is a must visit! Just a heads up, the food is on the spicy side.

Some of the best food in Seattle. Order before you sit down, quick service. The curries are absolutely phenomenal. The net bread and duck were the highlights for us. They have "medicinal" shots infused with various Chinese herbs as well. Be prepared to wait, but there are bars nearby.

Amazing food. From the net bread to the lamb kofta to the fried rice it was all perfect. Drinks were tasty too. The only reason I took one star off is because in the middle of my dinner my date and I were held hostage by a 5 minute long banjo cover of Ocean Breathes Salty by modest mouse. It was completely out of place given the otherwise immaculate vibe of the evening. I thought I was being punkd. Honestly I just want to know who put that song on and what were they thinking.

Was passing through Seattle and came upon this place by chance. What a find! We ordered the roti jala with lamb curry, nasi goreng, and chili pan mee (made with fresh wheat noodles). The complex burst of flavours reminded me of the street food I'd eaten in Southeast Asia. These chefs care a lot about the food they make, and it's evident in every bite. The ingredients are fresh and the flavours and textures exceptionally well balanced. The pros: delicious food, generous portions, and very affordable prices. One small con: long wait time for a table (around one hour) but it was more than worth it! The host sent me a text and I was able to track our place in the queue via Yelp. There are numerous bars nearby where you can relax with a cocktail while you wait.

Great food and experience but be aware that there’s no reservations, it’s always really busy, and you should try to get there 4:30-5pm to put your name in the list and be ready to wait for about an hour. If you try getting there at 6:30 or later the waitlist will probably be full. With that said, have a great time!

During COVID19 was able to get takeout on a weekday without a wait. Been wanting to try this place for a while. Takeout menu is different than their typical dine in menu. The hype is real! I recommend the Ayam Merah Goreng (Spiced Fried Chicken, tomato coconut curry, jasmine rice, coconut sambal and cucumber), Malay peanuts, Roti Jalal with dhal curry (Malaysian bread, wheat flour, turmeric, coconut, egg, dhal curry), Mushroom Pan Mee (homemade, hand cut wheat noodles, mushrooms, soy, fried shallots, green onion, poached egg, and side of mushroom broth), and a Coconut Milkshake with Kahlua! All was tasty. The curries were amazing and the fried chicken was perfectly cooked.

Excellent food spoiled by poor service. Order was taken incorrectly and when we were served the wrong dish we were told that “we paid for it” and we couldn’t exchange it since “that’s what [we] ordered.” To that I would say that it’s your responsibility to ensure that you are recording our order correctly on the POS unit that you neglected to show to me except for payment. In addition, it’s very disingenuous to expect a tip prior to receiving any service at all.

Delicious! Friend suggested this spot and mentioned that there's always been a long line so she hasn't been able to try it. Well, we dropped by on a Wednesday night and were able to get seated immediately. However, you order and pay before you get seated, so we spent some time browsing the menu. Although small, it was pretty hard to make some decisions as everything sounded delightful! Roti Jala (net bread) was super interesting and felt like a crepe. The net texure of the bread is fun to pull and work with. I'd recommend trying out this dish as an experience! Taste wise, nothing too special but not disappointing. Nasi goreng char siu was probably my favorite dish. The pork was super tender, juicy, and I wanted more. The rice also had a nice crisp to it being fried so altogether, the dish had a perfect balance in texture as the soft, tender char siu blended with the crispy rice. Ayam goreng berempah was pretty good, this is the fried chicken. Wasn't really something we ate together with the rice and curry though. We much preferred eating the fried chicken on it's own and would've loved to have the opportunity to just order fried chicken without rice, curry, or the other sides. Duck noodle was my second favorite dish. The broth was fairly rich with a hint of duck, similar to chicken broth. The duck leg in the noodles was crispy on the upper side but being submerged in the noodle broth, the bottom got a bit soggy. Overall, still very tender and juicy though. Noodles were perfect, not overcooked or undercooked. One of my first Malaysian food visits and I was pretty satisfied. I think I enjoyed the simplicity of the basics (i.e. Nasi goreng char siu) rather than the dishes with more spices blended in, but I still appreciated all the food.

First time experience here. I was with two very experienced Asian cuisine (one lived in Malaysia for quite some time) people and we all enjoyed it. Though they said it wasn't quite the same I rather enjoyed it. One downfall is with the small size and maybe undersized hoods I went home smelling heavily from the food. I would return though.

Not sure what all the fuss was about. I'm not a fan of non-native people running a cultural business they don't know anything about, but was pleasantly surprised by the kitchens depth of culinary knowledge, authentic Malay appetizers and delicious sauces they managed to develop. My only issue are the prices and disorganized wait times. Being a food city, Seattle has many efficient restaurants that deliver quality service when it comes to hosting customers. This place can get chaotic when busy. A simple roti and potato gravy, daily staples for Malaysians, is ridiculous expensive. Nothing I ate here makes me want to go back for it again and again, other than the roti and gravy. I recommend it just for the experience.

The cool sounding title of this home front means "Restaurant" in Malay. I don't get the lines other than the success of the hype machine but we enjoyed this night in Cap Hill in good company and atmosphere. Our food took about 10 minutes longer than we would've liked but the place is packed and you can tell that the chef and team here put a lot of heart into each dish that goes out. Wait staff was attentive and not hard to get their attention for extras! Serving amounts are large and definitely shareable, none of the plates really stood out to me even though we ordered a variety of items. Perhaps Indonesian food isn't my fave so my rating reflects more on the atmosphere--albeit loud and hard to hear your corner neighbor, added a lot to my day which had been a really long one earlier.

My most recent visit to Kedai Makan was absolutely wondrous. It’s a flavor experience that ferries you along with the heavenly smells long before the flavors arrive at your table. The menu is expansive, the favors are well realized, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. When you tuck yourself into a cozy corner of this restaurant the food becomes a vessel for connection that will pleasantly distract from the conversation with bursts of flavor that simply must be audibly admired.

We have eaten here twice now and neither has been a let down! Come prepared for a long wait (usually 2-3hrs) but there are lots of little bars in the area where you can grab a drink while you wait. Once you are in, the cocktails are great, the food is amazing, and the service is outstanding! We had our 19 mo old daughter with us this visit and the staff were so accommodating and friendly with her! Every time I have visited this place my only regret is that I can't make food as delicious at home!

Highly recommend the peanuts, frog legs, Pan Mee, and pickled greens. YUM. They also have very unique infused herbal beverages that are worth a try. My friend and I arrived at 5:05 pm Wednesday night, because we expected the wait to be long. There was a small line, but because we were a party of 2, and we were okay with being seated at the bar, we got to sit after only 10-15 min of waiting. My friend ordered a Lamb Murtabak, which came out quickly. My Nasi Goreng Char Siu, however, took 25 min to come out. At least they were both delicious! I wish the menu had more options, especially the entree and dessert sections. Also, water is self pour—at the bar seating at least. Funnily enough, when we emerged at 6:35 pm, there was absolutely no line! Overall, a bit overpriced what you get. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to come here again.

First tip: be prepared to wait! Came here with a small group of 4 half an hour after they opened on a Thursday and we had an hour wait. The food was great though! The hand made noodles were excellent and had a lot of flavor in the broth. I think the surprise standout was the jellyfish standout for me. Just full of flavor and well made! The roti was good and while I enjoyed the intricate net pattern, it was a bit difficult to eat with the curry this way as it would not scoop up easily. Ultimately a very tasty experience if you are willing to wait!

Visited twice, waited around 2 hrs the first time (wouldn't wait that long again). Good food,close to the Indian palette I like, but nothing extraordinary. Lots of coconut in almost everything,anyone who enjoys that must try.The coconut milk shake was a 4.5 for coconut lovers, the iced coffee was not as sweet as I imagined (compared to Thai iced coffee) and as it was described. Overall a 3 on 5.

Ordered takeout and was blown away by the flavor of the food. The curry that came with the roti jalan is unlike any I've ever had and next time I'm getting a big bowl of that alone. The chili mee is full of delicious flavors and different textures and just the right amount of spiciness. I can't wait until we can dine in again because I'm sure all of this would taste a hundred times better if we ate it with seconds of being served.

They will not seat you until your entire party is there, but they will take your name down. The food is wonderful, such an interesting combination of Chinese, Indian, and other Asian countries. We ordered the fried chicken, nasi goreng, and the lamb paratha, all dishes were great, but the highlights were the fried chicken and lamb parathas. The chicken was incredibly crispy, very well seasoned, and balanced really well with yogurt sauce and green chutney. Lamb parathas were similarly excellent and had a beautiful dahl. Nasi goreng was a tad too rich, so I’d recommend pairing it with another dish if you order it, though it is still good.

Very difficult to get a spot if you don't show up when the open, but the food is well worth it. Very authentic flavors. We sat at the bar and the bartender was incredibly nice and helpful with selecting items. If you are going to do a Chinese wellness shot, I suggest just doing the mother. Nonchalent, ignorant service with decent food, could be improved I get that this place is really popular to the point that this comment/review probably would be diluted. But for those who wants a true Malaysian dining experience, this is not it. Malaysian cusines should include the entire experience, including MALAYSIAN HOSPITALITY AND ATMOSPHERE, not just a shell or glorification of what this decent restaurant can be. Food: (coming from someone who ate countless Malaysian cuisine in Malaysia and Singapore) 4 star level with rooms to improve. The fried chicken is tender with a good fried batter BUT, blend on the inside with not enough spice infused. Nasi goreng is too heavily seasoned, overpowering the spices that should be present. The texture however, top class with layers of softness imbued in fried nice. Service: 2.5 hour wait on a weekday night, party of 2 Waitress at the door assumed or forgot to let us know that bar seats are available. Waited 1.5 hour after COUNTLESS, at least 6, PARTIES OF TWO GO IN WHEN THEY CAME AFTER US. Turns out bar seats are available all this time but because of perhaps our young appearance, they assumed that we are not 21. Things like this should not be assumed. We re-q for the bar seats and waited another 20min before seating. Also if youre a party of 2, they seat party of 4 before you because of their mostly 4ppl table. Not the right way to do hospitality. Server at the bar is dull, no greetings, simply 2 menus on the table with prompt needed to order. On the other hand, the older waitress sending out food is hospitable and nice and should be followed by the rest of the crew.

Very nice little eating outlet. Finally got a chance to taste their amazing dishes. Ordered nasi goreng belacan aka shrimp fried rice. It’s really good and authentic I would say. Didn’t get a chance to dine in due to covid but the place was really packed in dinner time and usually the wait time is 1-2 hrs. One of the best and authentic Malaysian food I have tried so far.

Everything was well done on our visit. The bar opened with two seats when we arrived so we avoided a long wait. The waits are real so be aware of them! The roti items were amazing and the fried rice was delicious. Very distinct South East Asia flavors and by far the only restaurant that stands out in terms of flavor in this neighborhood. Will revisit probably at a less busy time.

Love this place! Especially post-COVID I've been a regular here (for takeout). My favorite thing to get here is the Kerabu Tibun Nanas, which is essentially a peanut-pineapple-cucumber salad. It's amazingly juicy and refreshing, especially on a warm summer day.

I’ll periodically go through my week just having INTENSE cravings for Kedai Makan. A friend took me here many years ago and I’ve had their food at least once a month ever since. My favorites: Nasi Goreng Kambing (or Kedai with tofu) and Mushroom Pan Mee (which I believe may have been swapped out for another delicious-sounding special). Make sure to get some roti to share, pickled greens, and a coconut shake to round out the meal. A great place to take friends/family BUT the wait is always extremely long as it is a very small spot. Pro tips: be prepared by eating a snack and put your name/number on the list, then go around the corner to Montana bar for a Moscow mule while you wait. Just relax and be prepared to wait an hour or two (the food is so worth it if you are prepared to wait).

Frog legs were good, tastes a lot like chicken. Lots of nuts and spices, I ended up getting a little constipated though, but I wouldn't change a thing. One of the main noodle dishes was better than one of the popular rice dishes. We didn't have room for desert unfortunately. I never had Indonesian food, so that was refreshing cuisine. Will need to come back to try more things. I was concerned about the price, but I felt I got large portions and a lot of value from uniqueness. We waited a long time for a table, we ended up leaving a little past 11pm. They don't take phone reservations, the best you can do is check in super early and then hang around the block until they text you.

One of the best meals I had while visiting Seattle from out of town. The host was super accommodating and got us bar seating within minutes even with a two hour wait. The service was quick and friendly overall and it was evident they want you to have a great experience. We ordered the roti jala (net bread) with the lamb curry that had amazing flavor and then shared the nasi goreng kambing which was delicious and full of flavor. Would definitely get here early if you want a table and be prepared to share some entrees so you can try a little bit of everything as they’re rather large (two people could split an entree)

I think we were oversold with expectations; arrived early to wait inline, and thought it was okay. Menu is out front however they do pass out printed menus, counter order, pay upfront and although tip defaults to 18%, believe it’s optional or can change amount. Number is given and find your own table. Wait staff does serve the orders. Help yourself to water and utensils. With the current climate, I don’t mind the 18%, but felt a little pressure, help yourself! I usually leave 20-25% but after the fact, with full service. Orders: acar awak, kerabu timun nanas, potato murtabak, ayam goreng masala, prawn and king oyster mushroom clay pot. I guess if you grew up on Asian cuisines and have traveled to Malaysia, this is just average food. Note this is our second time, first time wee were turn away, guess they are limited per night and with that, don’t expect to return. It’s not that the food is bad, just don’t think the model fits the expectation, from this palate!

Very very popular and incredibly impressive how they handle the demands. They don't take reservations so good luck if you go between the hours of 6 and 9. My friend and I waited 1 hour and thoroughly enjoyed our multi-course meal which included two different infused shots one bourbon and one vodka an appetizer main meals and even dessert.

I went here with a friend who lives in the area and was so glad she recommended it! The food and drinks are both unique and full of flavor - some of the most interesting flavor combinations I’ve ever tried (definitely in a good way!). The restaurant is comfortable and well decorated, and feels very cozy and inviting. It is a small place so I’d recommend going early to get a table, especially for more than 2 people. Overall, a really good experience! Highly recommend the nasi biryani ayam too.

First stop after our flight from Texas: Kedai Makan. We dined here the first few days after dine in restrictions were relaxed. We waited 2 hours to eat here and it was well worth the wait. We are so happy that Kedai Makan, it's amazing cuisine, and hospitable staff weathered the pandemic to continue the service that we know and love.

One of the best restaurants Capitol Hill has to offer. Reasonably priced, hearty portions, and amazing flavors. I highly recommend the coconut shake with or without rum, and this coming from a guy who normally really dislikes coconut anything. As many have said, the fried frog legs are very worth trying, but I would argue just about everything here is worth trying.

We love Malaysian food, but this place is outstanding. Definitely a treat to all of your senses. Out of 8 different things from the menu, there was not one that we did not like. My favorites were Mushroom pen mee and Roti Jala with lamb curry. It's definitely worth the wait, but your best bet is to come 30 minutes before they open. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. For the people waiting on the street they even bring chairs. If we ever come back to Seattle, will be back for sure!

The rice and ribs were amazing, a perfect combination of salty, sweet and umami. This is among my favorites in Seattle, but the secret is out and people are now lining up for hours. Roti Jala came with the best daal I’ve had and the fried rice also had a wholesome and different flavors to it. I also had Old fashioned but that was so so - would recommend the Pie Bar a couple of blocks away. Service: 4/5 One of the waitress didn’t seem so friendly but the others we very polite and courteous. The service overall was prompt so no complaints on that. Though expect to wait at least an hour to be seated. Ambiance: 5/5 Feels like home. It’s well lit and has rustic furniture so had a warm cozy feeling. Not a good choice for fine dining atmosphere or kid friendly, though we did see a table with a toddler in pram. Value for money: 5/5 For the taste I think it is well worth the price. Would definitely go again for a casual dinner.

The best Malaysian restaurant in Seattle. Their menus keep changing every fortnight they said. I had clam biriyani and it was simply mind blowing. It was great. I never had clamps before but i liked this dish a lot. The broth was amazing. There is always a big waiting tine and service is slow. But, the food is worth the wait. Enjoy !

Was very good food! The wait on a busy Saturday evening (went on Pride weekend) was not terrible for the bar; however was quoted 2hrs for a table (no reservations). You are able to use Yelp to get on their wait list. Would recommend using yelp to get on waitlist or expect a wait. The place is not the big, but has good ambiance and a fun SE Asian vibe. For drinks we got the Cha Cha Rodriguez and a beer. The cocktail was very good, and the bar tender friendly. For dinner we got the Roti with lamb curry, the frogs legs, and catfish. The Roti was good and different than roti I had and was a little messy. The frogs legs were EXCELLENT! very well fried with a very good sauce on them. Not an item found often in Seattle, but they did it very well. The catfish had a problem initially, it was under cooked. It was a huge piece of catfish, but being so big and thick, and fried, it was not cooked all the way through. I noted this to the bartender/server and she immediately took it back to the kitchen. A few minutes later another server (maybe manager?) came to talk to me to offer a new catfish or any other dish on the menu, this caused a little confusion as a new order of the catfish was already ordered by the bartender. So a little later a new catfish dish came out. This time the piece was thinner and well cooked. The dish was good, but not my favorite. It came with a bean sprout salad which was very good. Would probably not order the catfish again, catfish is also not a common item one sees in Seattle (or at least i don't). Once we got the bill, we were impressed that they comp'd the catfish dish. Even though they made a new one with out any issues. So that was very nice of them, and really how a customer should be treated. Very good showing for my first time in their new location (ate with them when they were just a hole in the wall years ago). We will be back!

The food is good, thus, the three stars. The service? Not so much. I went a week ago, but can’t remember much except a lot of sitting around waiting. The food is not so great that it makes up for the wait or bad service. Even if you put your name and phone number down, don’t walk away. They won’t text you even if there are plenty of open seats, but if you had waited 2 hours for the text but none received and wanted to just check in in person? Seated right away, ordered, another wait for the food, then wait to grab the server for whatever you need, then wait to ask for the check. If you got a seat right away, try the net bread and fried chicken, also the complimentary milk tea by the door while you wait. For me tho, Never Again.

When we were seated, we were greeted right away and asked if we had any questions about the menu. We ordered a few different things off the menu: Fried spicy frog legs, chili pan mee, and deep fried oysters. We started with the frog legs that were extremely spicy, covered in chili flakes. They were juicy and crunchy, with lots of meat on each leg, and a bite with the cilantro and cucumber was delicious.

When people say to get in line at least a half hour before opening time, it’s no joke. You can certainly come later, but the wait can be lengthy. You do not want to sit at the bar. We’ve been twice, sampling different dishes each time — except for the roti jala, which you pretty much need served to you on a daily basis. The only dish that was meh was the pork belly — seven others were outstanding. The combination of spices is unusual and delightful. The coconut “shakes,” with or without rum, are addicting. At $8 for the “with alcohol” option, they’re a bit pricey, but try one as a treat. Given how busy the place was (on a Sunday and a Saturday evening), the service was excellent.

If you're looking for delicious Malaysian food, Kedai Makan is the place to go. It's a very interesting restaurant, tables very close to each other to fit as much as possible, so get cozy with a neighbor. Grab an appetizer to share with the table (like the Roti Babi), it'll help you experience the best dinner you can have. They have a few drinks too, like the Kedai Sling, which is our personal favorite there. The menu is pretty decent for such a small place, but you get large portions and plates are packed full of flavor. The list of good things on the menu to get is limitless as our friend group has never had a bad meal here. This is a great place to start the night before you got out in Cap Hill, but there is always a line. Put your name in then go around the corner to Montana to grab a Moscow Mule first while you wait for your table.

Fried spicy frog legs were absolutely fantastic! Roti baba was also so good. The vibe in the restaurant, music, decoration, service were all above standards! Definitely worth waiting for. The only dissapointment for us was not to order a Nasi Goreng with lamb or mince. Our choice was a dish with mackerel and okra, and it was so heavy and not super tasteful.

This is some of the tastiest food I have ever had. My table of four ordered the roti/daal, a refreshing cucumber and pineapple salad, fried chicken biryani, and mushroom noodles. Everything was so flavorful and yummy that once the food came out, our table went silent because we were all so invested in annihilating the food before us. My only complaint was that we had to wait two hours to be seated even though we arrived shortly after 5pm when the restaurant opens. The wait ended up being worth it, but parking was still a major struggle and the restaurant was a little small despite its popularity. Over all, I look forward to attending again!!!

One of the best places for Malaysian food in Seattle. Very authentic food, with menu changing from time to time. The roti jala is amazing here and anything with fried chicken is something you must have as well. The drinks are done really well as here with alot of tropical drinks for there special. The special shots are very herbal tasting so not for everyone. Most of the time its pretty busy so there is a wait, but you can order take out or try the bar which is first come first serve.

Food is good, I had Malaysian Nasi Aayam, which is basically an assortment of various dishes, like an indian Thali...with 2 pieces of fried chicken, the flavours are well balanced and nice, wish there was a little more rice, the sambar was not the best i had though. We had 2 servings of Roti Jala with lamb curry which was delicious. We were the first one to walk in, drinks & food came in reasonably quick.. 15 mins after we ate one of our servers told us to vacate our table, which was odd as we dint see anybody waiting outside.

The "mushroom noodle" bowl had the most unusual, tasty flavor and the "seafood noodle" bowl has the largest prawns I've had in forever. And it's just a fun place to be, good vibes. The last time we'd had Kedai Makan, we were still young people living on Capitol Hill, but in our old washed-upness on Queen Anne, we decided to go over to pick up some takeout to cheer us in the time of Covid. We got the following: ROTI JALA WITH CHICKEN CURRY - The roti is a cool texture and the curry is delicious. Goes down extremely easy -- I would ask for this if I were sick as comfort food. 1 order of ROTI BABI - Still very good but not as notable as the Roti Jala with Chicken Curry. 1 order of NASI GORENG BELACAN - This was highlight #1 of our meal. The shrimp flavor is so delicious, the texture and flavor of the actual shrimp is great, and the texture of the rice is enchanting. 1 order of GULAI ITIK - This was highlight #2. The duck + sauce is so rich, and I absolutely love the pickled longbean on the side. 1 order of CHILI PAN MEE - Very interesting textures! Our typically picky dining companion actually liked this the best; I think in any other meal it would be a star, but given that we were luxuriating in the other things, I can only say that I enjoyed it (but not as much as the others). 1 order of CHILI TOFU - This was the only thing we didn't really care for. It would be good for your friend who thinks tofu = healthy: the tofu is battered, fried, and dressed in a sauce with a faint numbing flavor; it's served with an ample portion of white rice and some greens that really needed to be cut up.

The portions here are crazy big! My friend and I ordered one appetizer and two entrees and it was way too much food. We ended up eating our leftovers for breakfast the next day! The roti jala was super delicious as was the lentil curry. We also enjoyed the nasi goreng and pork belly - although I wouldn't say the pork belly is very Malaysian - just a hipster version. But either way, the food was good. The service was decent. My only complaint is that our table was way too small - we could barely fit our dishes on it and it was high table.

Extraordinarily long wait, slow service, and the food was ok. I don’t know, maybe we did something wrong. We waited 1.5 hours on a Saturday night (we were told 50min wait) and once we were seated it took over 10 minutes for our waiter to come over. The food was fine but there is no way it was worth the 2+ hour wait total. We had the vegetarian KERABU TIMUN NANAS which was tasty and had nice textures and the chili pan mi which was also good but wasnt an extraordinary noodle experience. Perhaps we should have gone for other items or perhaps the 2+ hours was too much buildup. Either way, lackluster experience overall, I’m sad to say.

Wowowow. This was the first place I’ve been since moving to Seattle where I finished the meal and was completely satisfied. We went on a beautiful snowy night and were almost turned away because it was so packed, but the host was super nice and was able to get us a table. The atmosphere was cute. The food was awesome. Get the Kerabu Timun Nanas to start (essentially a cucumber salad). Very refreshing. Mushroom Pan Mee - delicious. The fried rice - delicious. Fried chicken - delicious. This place really checked all the boxes for me.

Absolutely delicious food! I'm malaysian, and this place reminds me of home. I would recommend their pan Mee if it's on the menu, or their fish options are all good. They rotate their menu often but definitely stop by here if you haven't tried malaysian food before (or if you have and you're craving it)

There was a 2 hour wait. The reviews were really good, so we were really keen to try it it. However, the food was okay, if not too oily. I didn't see what all the fuss was about. I'm a vegetarian and may be it was just that the vegetarian options were not good. However, the service was great.

Addictive. If you aren't familiar with Malaysian food - go here and fall in Love. I recommend the Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) and any Roti (stuffed bread) on the menu. For something different: Fried Frog Legs. The food is so good here, you can't go wrong. Prices are so reasonable ($10 range), you can try a lot of different items without breaking the bank! Tiny. Beware you may have a bit of a wait. Ordering to-go is a good option and how they got their start at a small stand. Excellent service and delectable cocktails just gild the lily.

My friend and I made the walking hike up to near Capitol Hill from Downtown, and got here by 5:15. Somehow, Lady Luck was on our side because the two parties ahead of us wanted a table and we were okay with sitting at the bar. A side story, I had a taste of Malaysian food thanks to an ex, and haven't been able to find a place in Los Angeles that can produce something similar to Malaysian cuisine. Shocking, considering LA is the mecca of getting any kind of food you want within a 25 mile radius. Because this place was on a bucket list, my friend already knew what she wanted to try, and I was hankering for some vegetable dishes (not because I'm vegetarian or vegan, but because I was lacking some greens in my diet at this point of my trip). To top it off, we both wanted to try something out of the ordinary that we don't see too often but can get some comfort from. With that said, the dishes we chose were the Roti Jala (with dhal curry), Kerabu Timun Nanas and Beef Masala. All the dishes came out within a reasonable time and each one was delicious after the next. The roti looked pretty fun to made and even more fun to eat. The salad reminded me of a Thai papaya salad with an extra kick of umami from the fish sauce and the beef masala reminded us of a thicker version of the Vietnamese curry we grew up with (and the large shrimp chip reminded us of all the wedding banquets we went to as a child). Yes, it's a pain to wait for delicious food, but given our luck, go as soon as the place opens to nab a sit, or you may be waiting over an hour or so. (By the time we were on the final stretch of our Beef Masala, I noticed the parties before us barely sitting down and placing an order.)

This is as ethnically accurate for Malaysian food as you can get for Seattle. The environment is as Seattle as you can get, limited seating, dark ambience, and full of tech money. So what does that mean? Food is delicious but price is above average. Still it's worth a visit but a word of advice: go early and stand outside before it opens because that is the only way to garuntee a quick meal here.

This restaurant is unique in every way. When you walk through the door it is like stepping into another world. We were able to find a place at the bar while we waited for our table. Our bartender was friendly and very helpful with suggestions for our drinks and our dinner. The food is tasty - tons of flavor with just the right amount of spice. The frog legs were the best I have ever had and the roti jala was to die for. My favorite entree dish was the chili pan mee noodle dish, other people at the table liked the nasi goreng kambing rice dish. great environment, fun food, good service.

I had the Malyasian Style Nasi Biryani Ayam (Fried Chicken) and it was excellent. The chicken was extremely tender, fresh, and well-seasoned. I would recommend the dish to anyone. We had a fairly large party (8) and had to wait nearly 3 hours for a table since there isn't much seating and few tables for large parties. 3 hours is far too long to be waiting in my opinion. Go with a smaller party to be seated much faster.

Great food! We had the roti jala or net bread. It was yummy chewy like ramen accompanied by delicious lentil curry which was flavorful and spicy. It was our favorite. The mushroom pan mee and the nasi foreign kambing (mutton) or here lamb is used were both very good. Portions were large and we had to doggy bag. If you also like yelling conversations over loud techno music then this place is perfect for you. We recommend take out if you don't.

Ordered Kangkung Goreng Belacan, Gulai Ikan Keli, and Roti Jala. The Roti Jala was good, but the dhal curry that came with it didn't as 'kaww' (kick) as it would in Malaysia. Kangkung Goreng Belacan was good and I would say it was almost the same as you would find in Malaysia, but the Gulai Ikan Keli is just a no no. Not only the fish is the catfish fillet, I would say that the dish was much similar to thailand yellow curry compared to malaysian yellow curry. The only thing that I was happy with is the Kerabu Taugeh that came with the fish dish, it was really good (except the fact that mint leaves doesn't really fit in the kerabu)! Overall, if you're a Malaysian by heart or had been eating the original malaysian dish in the original Malaysia Truly Asia, don't expect too much.

I have wanted to come to Kedai for moths and I finally got the chance to, after working the Melrose Night Market and let me just say that it without a doubt lived up to my expectations. Took me a couple of minutes to figure out where the entrance was, which I guess if you came during an earlier time you would be able to spot with the line going out the door but luckily for me, was to walk in and grab a spot at the bar. Ended up going with an order of Frog legs which were the first time that I could understand why my dad always told me that his favorite thing growing up was frog legs, the Kedai rice, and one of their cocktails all of which were superb. After coming here Kedai has instantly rocketed up to one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle.

I enjoyed my first Malaysian meal. We shared the Koti Jala (Malaysian net bread) with curry dip and the Kerabu Timun Nanas salad. The peanuts and onion put the cucumber salad over the top. Both were so delicious that if I return on a future trip, that is all I will order, and I will hoard it for myself. I also had clay pot noodles with pork and prawns which was good. However, the bread with dip and salad were so excellent that anything else would pale in comparison.

I'm no expert on Malaysian food and I had never tried the food when it was a small shop around the corner. Having said that, this was quite possibly the best meal I've ever had. Tried a little of everything. Can't remember all the names but we had the shrimp chips, roti, a rice dish, a noodle dish, and chicken.

A nine course extravaganza at the top of the Colombus circle. There are two daily tasting menus: regular and vegetarian; the sever was flexible in substituting items from one menu to the other to match tastes or to take into account food allergies. Kedai Makan delivered on my expectations: extremely impeccable -- attentive, knowledgeable, engaging and friendly -- service; fine food (full of surprises and delight); and an extensive wine list. Each meal was brought in well practiced synchroneity. The setting is romantic and accessible: a two level dining room with a fireplace against a wall of windows overlooking with the city skyline below, and the upper level sparely lit with hand carved wood sculptures against the back wall which lent to the minimalist design. There is plenty of space between tables which makes conversation easy.

I'd give a thousand stars if I could! One of my absolute favorite places to eat. Ever. Parking is difficult and wait times are pretty long, but SO WORTH IT when you taste the food. I've tried almost everything on the menu so far (including the herbal shots!) and its all amazing. All of it! If i had to choose though, the nasai goreng kambing and the bubur hitam are my favorites. Everything is super flavorful and authentic.

Be prepared to wait a while before you're seated - they don't take reservations and the restaurant isn't very big. As others have stated this spot fills up quick, and with good reason. The food is flat out delicious. The Roti Jala and Nasi Goreng Kambing are must try's IMHO, but you really can't go wrong with any item. Look out for some of their seasonal dishes, the ribs during summer are an instant order for me (and is the reason I became such a big fan of Kedai back when they were a tiny take out spot). Also grab some fried peanuts on your way out, that stuff is crack.

My favorite restaurant in Seattle by far. Best Malaysian food I've ever had and yes I've had my fair share of Malaysian food in Singapore. Roti jala with lamb curry and nasa goreng are must. They have very spicy frog legs too. This place doesn't take online/phone reservations and you have to make one in person. Waiting time is atleast 30 minutes in my experience. You can always explore Capitol Hill in the meantime. :)

Great food, but service is really cocky and arrogant. There service knew nothing about the menu and said "if it's not there on the menu, we don't have it". The seating is also weird, we had 3 arrivals and they won't let us seat until all 4 of us are here for a 4 people table. What happens if we only have 3 people? *** In Short *** Enjoyable Malaysian, albeit a little undeserving of all the hype. *** In Depth *** My last stop on my Seattle trip, if you can even call it a stop, back when it was still a popup in Cap Hill. And by stop, I meant that we showed up, ordered to go, and ate our on way to SeaTac, rushing to catch a flight that was later delayed six hours. But, that's another story. We tried the: * Roti - The roti itself was great, but I found the dipping sauce rather lackluster. * Nasi Goreng Kedai - Good, hot, flavorful, and enjoyable, albeit a little too sweet for my tastes. * Pork Belly - Oh this was FANTASTIC. Juicy, tender, flavorful, and by far my favorite of the three items.

I went here with a good friend and fellow food lover. We were both head over heels for the food. We got the Roti Canai as suggested by other posts, and we also got Murtabak (a lamb dish) and Tau Yew Bak (a pork belly dish). I think the Tau Yew Bak was our favorite, but it's hard to compete with a pork belly dish soaked in a delicious sauce. You should split a Roti Canai with friends, and get a main course to go with it. I would definitely recommend this hole-in-the-wall (literally) to friends in Seattle.
