Reviews of Ivars
Excellent spot for fish n chips in downtown Seattle! Everytime I'm out here I will try to make it here. The fish n chips are phenomenal! Cooked to perfection with just the right amount of breading and very light on the oily side. You have a choice between salmon, halibut and cod. You cant go wrong with anything here!
Very nice service as soon as I entered the front receptionist. Jason my waiter was good and did his job well. I ordered a cup of the clam chowder of course which was fantastic. For my main, I had the Halibut fish and chips. It was very good, but I think I would have preferred the more classic Cod version. I will try that next time. Had to indulge for the Pineapple old fashion. It was different. Good. Not sure if I would ever order another, but glad I tried it. I will be back for sure.
The seafood here is always good and fresh, fried to perfection, and the seagulls are always attentive. I enjoy the Clam Nectar, as it's hot and very clammy, salty too, as a good broth should be. We especially love the fried clam strips as they have a lot of clam meat in them. The fish and chips are always hot and crisp and good, and the fries are plentiful enough to even feed the very focused gulls watching you.
This Ivar is super busy. Expect to be in line for about 15 to 20 mins. Their food is pretty good overall a bit pricy. They do offer outdoor and indoor seating. First come, first served. If you want to sit outside pretty much it is a self-service like fast food environment so nobody is there to clean your mess so make sure you clean after yourself so the others can enjoy their meals. The staff is pretty friendly overall. Great view of the Puget Sound.
Pretty cool little spot. The food wasn't mid blowing, seems a little too hyped up as the best fried fish place. But overall a decent experience and a cool little spot on the pier to stop at before or after the wheel
Food wasn't too bad but prices were so expensive. Three 4 piece meals and two pops was $75. Ouch. I knew prices had gone up but that seems insanely marked up. On the brightside, we did have fun feeding birds!
Personnel was grumpy and very unfriendly. The food however is absolutely amazing, so we still highly recommend to go here.
We had the salmon chowder and fish n chips salmon.
Take your food to the left and sit outside, next to the water and enjoy the view (and seagulls begging for food)
We had the cod and white clam chowder in the bread bowl. Everything was hot, fresh and tasty! The clam chowder was probably the best I ever had!
Halibut fish and chips were excellent
Cod fish and chips great as well
Calamari today was meh, tiny pieces- small squid not long slices
Coleslaw refreshingly crunchy
Clam chowder great . In a bowl wasted $ as bread was cold and super doughy.
Seagulls very entertaining
Always a fun place to eat. Excellent service and great seafood. Beautiful views of the piers and Puget Sound.
Delicious fish and chips. Today they had some amazing specials like Cajun babies (baby shrimp) and funnel fries (like funnel cake sticks)
Ivars is my favorite fish ans chip place ever. I am a traditional cod lover. The quailty does fluxuate but still pretty good. Also a fan of the new england clam chower, which is much better than seattle chower house.
Stopped here for a snack and a drink. Had the Cesar salad and crab dip. Both were very amazing. The next day has the clam chowder which was incredible as well. Great customer service at the bar.
When you break a chip it should flake with the "grain" of the fish! It should be moist inside, not greasy! East coast could learn that from Ivar Hagland! Returned and they're as Great as Ever! Smoked Salmon CHOWDER! Soo good I was gigging like a little girl!!! "Upscale" visit like Acres of classic next door or on Lake Union!
This is a review for the Ivars (casual energy) located outside the restaurant (upscale vibes). I've come to this location maybe 10 times in my lifetime, and I've had a consistent experience each time. The white clam chowder is underratedly delicious! Definitely would visit again. Love the food, love the atmosphere, etc. I just wish seagulls weren't allowed inside the dining area. There were poop everywhere lol
Halibut fish & chips were delicious.
They have an outdoor/street food counter next door that would've been perfect if were just wifey and me. Seems to be a little cheaper outside too. But we sat inside with a group, and it was fine. It was... just fine.
Plus you can feed the seagulls afterwards. That was fun!
Oh my word, I know most folks would go to Ivan's for seafood, but let me tell you, the Vegetable Curry was so delicious! It has coconut milk in the sauce that tempers the perfect (not too hot) curry flavor. It's made with seasonal vegetables and this dish set the bar for me! ☆☆☆☆☆
Fresh and yummy seafood along with funny co-eaters(pigeon and seagulls) 😀 …
For Seattle, Ivar's is overrated. Some of the seafood is decent, if that's your thing and they have some good beers on tap. However, too much is mediocre and the outdoor spaces at both of their outdoor dining areas are badly in need of TLC, pressure washing and a redo. Oh, and their fries suck. I say skip it.
Visiting from Dallas, TX. I had their Alaskan Cod and chips(fries) with their DELICIOUS tartar sauce, which was all so very good! And, last, I had their AMAZING CLAM CHOWDER, all of which I ate out on their deck, enjoying life ❤️ Please share your chips with the birdies ❤️❤️
Great restaurant. I always stop here when visiting Seattle. Nice outdoor seating to look at the water. People do love to feed birds here. So watch out.
Lunch for 4, by the window. Watched the firemen practice diving! Was an amazing experience. Had the harbor melody, sweet niblets that was great!
What a difference between eating inside instead of curbside. A warm atmosphere and delicious food. My guest from Ohio was impressed.
Perfect location to have a classy seafood meal..
When I was a kid, my grandmother (who I was not close to) would make a point of telling me every birthday that I “could have been heir to the Ivars fortune” because I think they dated for a short while?
In any case, I love their clams and when they have it, the Alaskan salmon is a must try.
I grew up eating the clam chowder here and it is the absolute best in Seattle.
My wife and I each had the fresh-caught, crusted halibut on a bed of risotto for lunch. It was outstanding! The fish was succulent and tender. The risotto was very flavorful. This restaurant does it right - atmosphere, food and service. We now know why Ivar's is a Seattle mainstay, dating back to its founding in 1938.
Great spot for a quick bite while walking around. We shared the fish and chips as well as the clam strips. Both were quite good.
Great food, and fantastic service. The family always loves going to experience a wonderful time.
Love Ivars!! Coming from the midwest, I've never tasted delicious clam chowder until Ivars. Definitely worth it, I recommend it to everyone who's a tourist/new to Seattle because all the locals already know about this haha.
Fantastic lunch with a childhood buddy. Good food and good atmosphere. Great view over the water!
We grabbed some fish and chips at the fish bar. The fish and chips were very good. We had halibut and cod with cajun spices. Both were very good, the spices gave it a god kick!
The Cole slaw and shrimps cocktail were gold too.
The outside tables are infested with seagulls, but they keep their distance.
Service was very fast.
They have counter service and sit down. Good food
Always a treat when in Seattle. The food is amazing and the view is one of the best.
Best Clam Chowder, Blackened Salmon Cesar Salad were excellent and highly recommend. Salmon was well seasoned and properly cooked, complimented by the salad.
I've been told their clam chowder is the best, and I certainly can't disagree!
Best Chowder I’ve had in Seattle so far! I don’t eat pork so it’s rare to find good chowder that is without bacon. The Salmon Chowder was scrumptious and it’s so good that you don’t even need anything else to add to it. The fish and chip was great too, very light and ungreasy. I always thought Pikes Place Chowder was overrated and I was not wrong. Do visit Ivars if you are in Seattle!
Great food, friendly staff, and feeding the seagulls at the waterside outdoor benches is so much fun!
Shrinkflation runs rampant here. I paid $18 for a 3 piece cod and chips. The "pieces" were about the size of my pinky.
Food tastes ok, location is very convenient right off the water. Just really overpriced for what you get.
I've already need some flytraps outside but other than that those people are really cool great food great food! Love you Ivers
chowder was ok, sadly everything else was fried in “past its best” fryer oil. Poor team clearly understaffed so service was non existent and frustrating.
Have to stop here every time I am in Seattle. Always delicious, very conssitant. What could be better than clam strips on the Puget Sound?
cute place to visit but mediocre/overpriced food. this location came highly recommended def but was quite disappointing for fish&chips.
Our food was very good. We didn’t like how we had to ask for bread and ask for refills. When paying we didn’t like how the waiter had us pay on his device while he stood there waiting. Very pricey but expected for a tourist spot.
Been here a couple of times now and I’m not from the area. Food is wonderful and love sitting by the water! The fry shop on the street is also great.
Salmon chowder was outstanding.l! The fish and chips is average. The white clam chowder has bacon or ham
Love the cod and prawnssss and the chowder is amazing too
Seven of us had dinner and service (Javier) was very good and food was very good also. This is a Seattle Classic and they have continued to get better! Nice decor and great views including watching ferry boats come and go from the nearby terminal. I understand their menu is still limited as they come back from a long COVID closure but we had great choices including the wild salmon sandwich, fish and chips, clam dip and soups. Look forward to coming back!
It was clean and warm waitstaff Becka was kind and helpful, thank you
Steamed clams in wine and butter were really good. Had some crab dip that was good too.
Clam chowder was very good. Sitting area was nasty and hot. Person passing the food out was not friendly.
Always love it here. Clams, white chowder and fish.
Really good location being on the water front, chowder was really tasty.
Definitely a great chowder, but the eating area is quite smelly though
Excellent fish and chips. Ok to feed seagulls
The cod fish and chips and the salmon chowder was delish.
That staff has some of the most business I've ever seen here on the waterfront, but they are always friendly with a smiling face(s). Always get me my salmon or fish and chips with no delay, nice to be able to get some of that before heading onto the ferry as well.
We're from Chicago so expecting promt top notch service. Sat out outside in a dead zone. Once the manager noticed the faux paus - we were immediately relocated, served a fabulous Calamari and clams in Wine Sauce.... great recovery making this a great experience and Oh Yes, food is Great!!!
The best clam chowder ever
Clams, clams, clams! My daughter loved the semi spicy Cioppino. Pricey but you can't go wrong with Ivar's. The wait staff are fun and knowledgeable. I've been several times and every time has been a positive experience.
Loved the oysters that were fried to perfection!
Very nice food and exceptional service! There are flies though and no seating.
Authentic seafoods. Delicious Red salmon chowder
Very good clam chowder
One of the best meals I’ve had. The atmosphere is iconic and beautiful. The wait staff was helpful and friendly. The halibut was delicious.
this place gave me so many good memories growing up in the seatac area! if ur passing through the area, this place is so classic and nostalgic. get the clam chowder
Service was great. Food was okay. Excellent tourist-attraction location.Waterfront view of ferry transportation activity.
best fish in seattle!
I was impressed by the food and 1 young man who helped to feed a homeless man.
"April" works at the (Tacoma) Lakewood, Washington store. She was a BIG help to me, while I needed visual assistance on placing my order. 'Many kudos to "April", she DESERVES a free lat'te!!!
Miss RalphyNovotney
Just classic Seattle seafood spot. Great service. Cool location. Awesome place to grab some good food.
Great food and scenery. Our server Brian K. was amazing. Highly recommend!
Great place for seafood and clam chowder
Its ok, there are better places with better customer service and inside dinning than this place. It's tradition thou.
Peaceful place for a snack on the water
Delicious! Highly recommended!
I'm going to miss them. Always great fish, chips and chowder.
Great service, great good, and a fun atmosphere! Went twice in the two days we were visiting.
Great atmosphere, clean, big, nice staff. Food was perfection!
Had Cajun cod and shrimp cocktail...loved it..so delicious.
OMG I DON'T GET OVER TO SEATTLE OFTEN, BUT WHEN I DO IVAR'S IS A MUST VISIT STOP ON THE WATERFRONT. HAD A AWESOME LUNCH WITH DAD
A very nice place to eat seafood and the staff is very friendly and helpful
Best clam chowder money can buy!

Love Ivars cod and claim chowder!!
Best clams ever
Fantastic seafood
Great place to eat at!
good salmon
Just try it.
Loved this place
Simply amazing! The best tasting seafood I’ve had in my life. The Alaskan Smoked Salmon Chowder was perfect. Warm, creamy and filled with veggies. Pouring it inside the bread bowl was my favorite part. The Real Cod Fish ‘N Chips were even tastier. This is the real stuff. Loved it.
Great Seattle tradition. Usual seafood fare.
Great food and service!
Great service, food was served hot in a timely manner. Very nice, homey vibe. Beautiful view. Definitely a must visit when in town.
The Halibut Fish & Chips is the BEST I have ever had! The halibut was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The clam chowder was outstanding. The staff was friendly and professional!
I highly recommend Ivars!
I have been to Ivers in years and we finally got to Seattle so I wanted some clam chowder And fishing chips Everything was so delicious
Ivar's Acres of Clams has redecorated its interior several times since the 1960s. I suppose they are keeping up with "the times", but I feel the atmosphere is less historical and nautical. Se la vie.
Excellent, as usual. However, the sour dough clam chowder is not available inside the dine in area. It looks expensive, because it is. Be careful if you're on a budget, otherwise, ordering from the street is Seattle's new caste system?
The food was good. The service was great. I really enjoyed the muscles appetizer.
I visited while playing tourist in early February eith family. The view from the dining room was lovely, and I have no complaint about the portions. However, prices were remarkably higher than expected: gourmet charges for pretty standard fare. Delicious though! Maybe I am just getting old, but $14 cocktails hurt. 3 people, 2 drinks, 2 cups of soup, 3 appetizers for $105 ($130 including tip).
Good chowder. Service was excellent. Ordered cod fish and chips. Food was average but not exceptional. The clam chowder was very good and the atmosphere was nice as was the location.
(Translation) An iconic Seattle spot with good reason. The famous salmon fish and chips are worth every penny, as the fish is practically fried when ordered and tastes great without even needing tartar sauce. The potatoes are also amazing: crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
My big complaint about this branch is that it feels dirty and run down. Although I understand the nature of it being located on the Seattle boardwalk and being one of the most emblematic places in the city, the truth is that the covered and outdoor tables feel dirty; There was even a cloud of flies inside the place at the time I ordered. I hope I just went on a bad day...

(Translation) Very good place... to go for a walk with your partner, with friends, and family...
(Original)
Muy buen lugar... para ir de paseo con su pareja, con amigos, y familiares...
(Translation) It's cheap and tastes average.

比较便宜,味道一般。
